And because of that they had to put extra fuel on the booster at apparently, the military has some sort of zero space junk policy, so anything that goes up has the burn up on the way down rather than landing on the pad out in the water were on the actual facility here on their own space coast, but nonetheless. Yeah, I'm watching some people. Mosey and back to their cars. Long faces disappointed kids for sure among them myself. Yeah. Me too. Actually, I was getting ready to take you live here right on the radio station. All right. I'll let you get back to talking to some folks out there. That's reporter Darrell Moody out there jetty park in port Canaveral. So yeah, I'm I'm disappointed to deliver. You this breaking news. That SpaceX is is not going to be doing this launch. We're gonna take a break here. And hopefully, we'll figure out when they're going to reschedule this. They are maybe they'll do it later today. We're gonna find out some more details here, it's nine thirty three. A news ninety six point five WDBO. The.

"Space gold, rush, the Trump administration as emphasized a growing role for the private sector in, space exploration and recently. Presented a plan for a sixth military branch dedicated to space Wall Street Journal reporter Arjan Campo. Flores says local and state officials across the US are now trying to get in on the action Arjan what are we seeing a growing number of commercial, space sports. That are being created around the US that are trying to capture part of the growing commercial piece of of space activity so in recent Eight years As the government has kind of pulled back from spending an in an investment out increasingly partners in the. Private sector you've seen the growth of companies like safe x. which is a company that are creating their, own rockets creating their own launch services, and it it made it so that the commercial sector of of of faith economy is the one that is growing. More significant it's still kind, of nascent but that's where there's a lot of. The energy so you have a lot of. Communities ram you want to capture that antidote space ports of the they can provide services and venues for these private companies to operate what's involved in having your own space port Because to some extent when you've got, a private partner you up to that, private partner to decide what kind of infrastructure they want on the ground so some of the new contenders for instance. There's a wine that is, buying to be approved as a spaceport in Camden. County Georgia that for now it's sort of. A blank plate and and their idea is to eventually build that out over time once they figure out who their private. Partners might be and what their needs are You gotta play that is a long established for lunch Facility like a Cape Canaveral Florida to the airport station is there you know that you're talking about a. Region bed has decades of experience sending rockets into space And and it has, a really rich aerospace Got. Quite an a a lot of existing infrastructure and so you have private companies now of trying to develop out areas that. Have been carved, out for for commercial ventures so for instance they have an area that kind of space center where wards and. Is going to build one of its rockets there are other similar events in the which which cities are rolling the dice on this stuff Well so you you have the the one I, mentioned in Camden County Georgia you're not that has proposed creating one there's another one in Adams county Colorado that's also awaiting approval they the plan but that has the license they have others already gotten a but are still in the process of building it out so one example. Of that is Houston space for which was the most recently licensed they're still developing at a network called Ellington field and. So they've built, a new and so it's an existing airport now wants to add this l. space dimension to it a bit. Been partners and of a new air traffic control center that can handle lots of of space And they're now working on developing Another area where they might in the future Private space companies, operated, we're speaking, with Wall Street Journal reporter Aaron couple Flora's and he's written a piece entitled. Across the US the spaceport race is on we're kind. Of, expected growth or we're looking at here well so the the most recent figure for what the global economy is government on. Commercial was close to four hundred.

"Is joining us live this morning he's out at cape canaveral i'm a little afraid to ask how how close you are are to the site of of what is about to be an exploding couple of gantry towers out there at one of the old launch sites well i'm a few miles away this morning for our safety we're not actually on the cape canaveral air force station on on base there we are along the beach here with all the folks who are gathering out here you know watching look off in the distance we are just a few minutes away less than a half hour annex close to powers launch towers will be falling tumbling down to the ground and this is a historic site and let me tell you why because we saw the mars rovers launch into space from this complex here we've also seen national security rockets take national security satellite along with other communications satellite office to say this is very very popular here it was more than one hundred times over the last several decades here so very popular this is a big deal in this community but the future is great for this because there's a company here they're already here mood express they moved into the side around a two thousand sixteen or fifteen rather and so they've been here for a while and this demolition will make way for them to be able to get their aircraft and pick them to the moon they plan on sending some robotics to the moon to mind for some water and some minerals now it's unclear winning happened they say that there are three launches planned for next year but you know there was always change they do indeed and i'm looking at some pictures that are coming out of of the soon to be detonation site and i can't help it to notice that the the demolition companies a company called dicon and they're out of tulsa oklahoma and as you know we've got radio and tv stations and tulsa oklahoma so it had the we we we have to go all the way to oklahoma to find someone who can grow up cape canaveral interesting with all of the pyrotechnics and everything else that we have out there out out of the cape we have to go to oklahoma to get someone to bring that down you think about it but if you think about it here it's now a lot of these companies are moving here florida company so so we will have the technology here soon i'm sure we will now that is the the explosion and it is an explosion not an implosion oh that's what we're we're hearing there there is it's supposed to explode at least that's what we're hearing the see the towers will like fall over like a silo would not come straight down that's what again faced florida is telling us right now we've been fighting with the spokespeople for cape canaveral air force base in obviously they are a little bit all right channel nine eyewitness news report it's high russell is out there not too terribly close fortunately less any flying debris impale him at some points we're keeping him at a safe distance but that detonation is expected at seven o'clock this morning you'll hear it live here on news ninety six point five wdbo and i told tie that we'll be able to watch that on w r d q yes exactly tv twentyseven very good thank you sir so much for the update is now six forty four on orlando's morning news good morning joe we are racing to yet another week thursday morning starting out like all the others in summer warm and mostly sunny but we're going to see a little bit better chance for a few scattered storms especially toward the end of this week high did a ninety four we had ninety three yesterday miles are going a bit warmer it's going to be hot still seeing do points relatively low so not as much of a heated next today but it's little consolation when it's still ninety.

"And at lockheed martin again i was sent down to work at cape canaveral done fish testing the satellite and it was time taken down we put it in a rocket i had to do my part by finish testing statellite wallet in the rocket was did up we all went down to mission control and i had my park where they go through all the system when they when they came to avionics of the satellite i said no ready to go instill they did the countdown fistulas exciting praise god that did the countdown and so when launched everything shot in my mind went to actually part of this is actly that's another one of my genius is another one praise i give all the glory part of my background is logistics okay and then put in for a job at homeland security when it first started all right and i was a logistics consultant so i went down to washington dc for for training and somebody asked your toilets about the program are you going to tell us about what each individual person is going to do on the team and said no and we looked at each other and they said the reason why we're not telling you is because you're supposed to be experts in your field and ice to well i was able to use another genius of mind with homeland security being creative implemented creativity in my work and i got the job dumb i'm not going to go into detail about that was one of those opportunities that people.

"Seem like it would be all that much though it would be competitive with something like rocket lab or virgin orbit uh so they could you know pursue that route with excess one but for now let's see who you know who this gets looking at at polar launches from cape canaveral let's see if anyone starts marketing this idea something like new glenn maybe books a polar launch iin they've signed a couple of launches right now for launches out of cape canaveral but we'll see if they start signing some polar launches in the near future as this launch site comes together down there uh it'll be interesting to see if anyone does take them up on this um but for now i guess that's just all the speculation we can handle offer this topic but if you've got any thoughts on who may use this polar corridor from cape canaveral i would love to hear it email me anthony at managing cut off dot com and we're always talking on the discord as always as i mentioned so that is l have got for that topic this week now we've got some nc things coming up commercial crew launch dates were pushed back again and they have a hearing in the us house of representatives this week so we'll see if anything you're sitting comes out of that and i'm sure i will be back with you not too far into the future with some interesting topics coming up as falcon heavy is sitting on the pad getting ready for a static fire as i record this so very exciting times coming up here in space i'm excited to be back for 2018 i'm going to try to do some more small shows as topics come up to keep things more active as we get started in the year here so i keep an eye on or feeds and as always thank you so much for listening and i'll talk to you next week.

"The same rocket but with two solid rocket boosters would be up to the 100 and thirty million dollar range nuts they may be old figures i don't know exactly but general you know that's a general mind you know way to work at in your mind when you're thinking through this kind of stuff so in that instance you don't want to be hurting your payload capacity with doing these kind of maneuvers because that's going to be adding cost substantially so of something that could get to a pro grade orbit on an atlas five 401 needs to use an atlas five 421 to go polar from cape canaveral because of those payload hits that i've been talking about both in flying against the earth rotation but also doing at dogleg maneuver you're adding twenty million dollars of cost right there on top of it so this kind of maneuver that they're talking about with cape canaveral here in flying polar tends to favour architectures like falcon nine like new glands that are overpowered and reusable then something like vulcan are atlas five that is built for the low end and upgrades with cost from there but you can see how this gets a little more complicated for something like volkan because you know maybe you're adding cost to each polar flight and that makes you less likely to win that polar mission but could that money be better spent keeping open a west coast launch rain chino if if there's money that needs to be spent either by your customer to upgrade the payload capacity of the vehicle or by you to open a west coast launchsite making yourself more cost effective more attractive in terms of pricing navy then the trade starts to come out on the side of keeping open a west coast launch site but if your new glenn if you're blue origin flying new glenn and the price for a new glenn is the price for a new glenn regardless of how much stuff you put in it and you have the extra payload margin to fly polar from cape canaveral that starts to become really attractive because you can bid for those polar missions you can go out and try to get contracts were polar missions.

"Tonnes to lowearthorbit so it far outstrips what they are carrying on an average flight in terms of payload capacity and the reason there is that uh the booster is set up for you know obviously the need margin for reuse and space x his case to do all those landing burns the boost back burn reentry burned the landing burn that gets their stage back intact but you also in the case of her you reusable launch system you wanna be able to use that for as many payload classes as possible to make the benefits of reuse really come to fruition so that you just have one first stage to reuse or in the case falcon heavy of three but you have one type that you can launch and fly back and reuse exactly as it is you don't want any extra solid rocket boosters or anything else that needs to augment your first stage that makes reuse a harder target to achieve so in that case you see you know you see falcon nine a new glen that have this very oversized architecture but it's done four the reason of reusability now contrast that to something like atlas five or dealt the four or volkan they are built for the low end of the payload range so the base model of these the atlas five 401 you know just the atlas five with no saad rocket boosters or the similar dealt a four or volkan variance those are targeted for the low end of the typical payload range so that the base model covers you know the base level satellites that you'll be launching with this thing and then as you upgrade the payload size you have to start adding on solid rocket boosters to increase your payload and that brings within some added to concerns you know specifically cost he basic guideline is any solid rocket booster that you see you will lay adding to a launch vehicle is about ten million dollars in an increase of cost so an atlas five 401 as something around one hundred nine million dollars right now and atlas four twenty one which she is.
