"And however long it took and however the world was that they got there, it appears like that's the case. That's what it looks like. Elias Patterson is playing fantastic hockey. For those that don't watch the Canucks, man, this kid's back to where he was a couple of years ago. He is a, he's a terrific player. And I would say the knowledge that the coaching change was going to happen, once it got to be everywhere around the room and the team and the city is really hard to break away from that. It was a snowball. Yeah. And I thought that it affected everybody and every which way. And so it's a clean break or a new start, if you will. But it takes time for it to show up. And I think they're seeing the benefits of it. I've looked at this right or wrong to any team making a coaching change late in the year and hiring not an interim coach, but the coach that they're going to have going forward that this last part of the year is an extended training camp. So when they get to camp next year, it's not full teaching. It's like, let's get going. And we have our foundation in place. That's what I think these games are about for teams like the Canucks. 100% agree with that. Those are your headlines. Our interviews on rain Riggs is here brought to you by Canadian club whisky who are asking, are you over beer? Why not try refreshing CC, Ginger ale? Next time you're having a drink or watching the game. We were in afraid of chasing any line of energy pairing because we knew that we would generate offense. Bertuzzi, I was like, I can play in this league and I can play a big role in this league and I can be dominant for all the stars align. Morrison. There was a confidence that we believe if we went out and played the way we were capable, we could score every shift. "From the leaks perspective, the pandemic can not be overlooked in that a lot of the problems I believe stemmed from contracts at resigned before the pandemic, assuming the cap was going up on the projections that they had. And then it got smashed with a steamroller. And so the cap has been flat. People say flat cap and I don't think they take the implication of what that really means. There's no growth, but the contracts are still on the cap that you already signed before the cap flattened out. that's why I think the league will be really reluctant to do anything because they'll say, look, after next year, the cap is going to go up X number of dollars, then X plus number of dollars. And they'll tell you that there will be more flexibility. Yeah. The one thing that I'd like to see, the one thing I'd like to see the one I think I don't think you need to change the system because that's a far more involved, longer negotiation. I've been a proponent to take one salary and be able to franchise cap that salary. So each June 20th or 25th, because free agency starts on July 1st, each team designates one salary for that year that comes off the books. So it might be Connor McDavid this year. It might, but then Leon draisaitl comes up for a contract and he leapfrogs him, so it might be Leon draisaitl the next year. It doesn't have to be the same salary all the time. But each June 25th, you can take that salary and put it into your franchise tag. If you do that, that gives you another 12 and a half $1 million of capital. Owner, if it's McDavid, owners can do it or not doing it. Doesn't matter. Up to them. It still keeps the salary floor in the same place. It keeps a salary upper limit in the same place. But you're allowed to take one salary and take it outside the player pool and put it in this franchise tag. To me, it opens up space. It opens up flexibility. And it doesn't decimate the system. I like it. I like it. And Carlo and I have gone back and forth on a luxury tax. He's a proponent of a luxury tax. You know, so then you enhance revenue sharing. So it balances the haves versus the have nots. For me, that gets a little bit more authenticated. And then I also ask, okay, well, what's the give back that Batman is going to request? You know, to alter the system to that point, you know what he's going to ask for. Okay. Guaranteed contracts. That's given. All right, buddy. The headlines, once again, this season presented by our friends at Boston pizza. Thanks to BP. He interviews on Ryan dregs this year, brought to you by Canadian club whisky who are asking, are you

My question about that is, is it in the box or is it partly in your belly? No, no, no, hold on. Okay. I'll try and do play by play as I describe this. "And ray, we'd like to raise a glass of the fine chronicles series. Brought to you by Canadian club to mark on ray flurry for joining us today. 45 year old is out. It is available now looking forward to getting our little mitts on that 45 year old series to wrap it up. You know, Mark Andre flurry has been around the National Hockey League as we know for a long, long time. Of course he's serious. This guy is a fierce competitor as evidenced by hall of Famer resume. I think that's fair to say. You know, you can't help but smile when you're having the conversation with flour because, you know, he just takes you into places where he's just a good guy and a fun guy to be around. Man, he'll play as long as he wants to play. You know, just think of as he gets older. Like I watched him sorry, I'm gonna back up. I watched him on Tuesday in LA. He was phenomenal. Like the game So he gets beat in the third period, but he was amazing. I'm like, oh, he's not the wheels aren't off here. Like this is there's lots of great hockey left for Mark Andre fleury. And there's a time when maybe a terrific team says, hey, do you play 30 games for us? And the answer would be, he's going to be capable of doing that. But as you just mentioned, just as we were getting set here, made it pretty clear about the priority of hockey to family. And he, I don't know, he's just he's got a light about him. He's every teammate that plays with him talks about him in the same way and he's been he's been just a terrific player. Yeah, it's a bit of a throwback too though, right? Like in the fact that I mean, again, he's beaming when you guys are joking and talking about the pranks that he loves to play. But then you've got that fierce competitor where, you know, he softened it a little bit. The battles that he's had with Brendan Gallagher this season and historically and he's like, well, yeah, but you know, we're still friends. That's a bit of a throwback where you played hard against each other, but when the game was over, the game was over for the most part. Yeah, it felt like there was more in season crossover, like you'd run into teams after games and stuff because you always stayed over in that city. Right. You know, like nobody not many teams were chartering back in the day. So you stayed over and you go to a restaurant and pretty much everybody was there. And so in constantly see guys that had just finished punching each other in the nose and they'd be having a conversation. And it wasn't heated at all.

But we've been Mark Andre slurry from the Minnesota wild, this kind enough to join us here in episode 14. And it's always fun to reconnect with the flower. If you don't have a smile on your face when you're having a conversation with Mark Andre fleury, then you're just grumpy. Okay, so I did the game Tuesday night in LA. He was amazing.

Can't get can't wait to get our hands on a bottle of that stuff. Lots going on around the National Hockey League. Why don't we start at least top of the show with some entertainment value? And legit. Real entertainment value and Ryan Reynolds who the other has been much reporting on his interest legitimate interest in at least being part owner of the Ottawa senators. Now the sale process hasn't even opened in Ottawa yet. But he's like full steam ahead. So he makes an appearance on The Tonight Show and talks openly about how he liked to be part of ownership in Ottawa.

"It is presented by our title sponsor Canadian club whisky. We'll have more on this coming up for you, but as we know the final series of the chronicle series, the final release is the 45 year old Canadian club whisky. It's arriving everywhere, including our liquor shelves shortly. We're looking forward to that. And there are just so many different layers. It's a mysterious brew if we can call it that this 45 year old. And I keep reading about it and learning more about it. I can't wait to taste it. It's coming just in the Nick of time two drinks. Because we're getting a little shy on the 44th. Yes, we are, yeah. So I'm looking forward to it. It's delicious and you know I'm new to the whole game and learning about it and from tish and the fine folks at Canadian club, but it is, it is wonderful. If you have the opportunity, you should check it out. You know, we'll get on with this, but I didn't do a very good job of rationing. You know, you joke about the 44. But we had the 43 and we've sampled others, you know, through the good grace was a Canadian club whisky. But we probably should have saved a little, right? I'm very, I'm very discriminating as to who that bottle gets open for. I got it. I got it. If the knuckleheads come over, it doesn't, yeah. Very fair, very fair. Great episode ahead, we've got Nathan McKinnon from the Colorado avalanche who, you know what, I mean, as a hockey fan, you recognize very quickly that this is a superstar talent, right? He just is. But to have the opportunity to talk to Nate, you know, just the three of us talking hockey. He's a bit old school, isn't he? And we enjoy having the alumni on the podcast. Because they're not afraid to tell stories and tell it like it is, and the experiences that they've had. And you know, I think we're going to get a little bit of that from McKinnon because that's just who he is, right? He is just like he plays. He's straight ahead, flies off the cuff a little bit. Thoroughly entertained, listening to him. I love watching him play and the shearing goals is everywhere as a Stanley Cup champion. And really cool to have him on. Really cool. Yeah. It is looking forward to it. "Your support of them supports us. So thank you for that. Canadian club whisky, Boston pizza, and our good pals at newer. And we've got some changes. We'll get to headlines here, but we've got, you know, we're going to two pots, this season, right? Two podcasts. Look like Monday, Thursday, right? Monday, Thursday? Well, they're about. That's we're hoping for, right? And the reason we've done this is because anyone who's familiar with brand dregs knows that we've got headlines, which is important. Because again, we're talking about the bigger stories around the game of hockey. And coming out of the weekends, there's always a lot to discuss. We're going to do that. But we also have always a real intriguing interview segment. And we've got Nathan McKinnon, Stanley Cup champion coming up in week or two, so excited to get his thoughts on as the Colorado avalanche set upon trying to defend that championship. So there's an example, but those are meaty things. So just made good sense to split the podcast, right? Have headlines in one segment. The interview segment in another, and we'll touch headlines again going into the weekend. And our old pal Chris Abbott is going to join us twice a week. And there's always shenanigans in his life, right? Either the Blue Jays or football or something. He's always ready to fly. Oh yeah, if we can just track him down, he's also he's kind of mobile. We get him in a lot of places. We'll find him. We'll find out. He's entertaining. He is, and it's not just the gambling action. I mean, he's informative and educational in that regard as well, but it's the opinion and the stuff. I mean, this guy just lives Blue Jays. If you don't follow, if you don't follow Chris Abbott on social media, you're missing out because this guy is easy to entertain. He's either bul bichet, biggest supporter, or he's on his heels like a hound. It's one of the two.

"By the <Speech_Male> way, in Montreal, <Speech_Male> older brother <Speech_Male> Matt and <Speech_Male> I came across one <Speech_Male> another in the concourse <Speech_Male> at the bells. <Speech_Male> Oh, and the call of course. <Speech_Male> I was just worried you <Speech_Male> were dragging him out <Speech_Male> because no, <Speech_Male> no, no. <Speech_Male> He oh, I think he <Speech_Male> would be. He'd be right <Speech_Male> up your rally, Drake. <Speech_Male> You really <Speech_Male> would. <Speech_Male> He's a <Speech_Male> Prairie boy <Speech_Male> who's not a Prairie <Speech_Male> boy. <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> think he took a shot at you <Speech_Male> something about the podcast <Speech_Male> along with, why don't <Speech_Male> they just call it the ray Ferraro <Speech_Male> podcast <Speech_Male> because you don't really <Speech_Male> talk anyway. <SpeakerChange> He <Speech_Male> won't let you, something <Speech_Male> along the way. I'm sure you <Speech_Male> notice Matt's pretty <Speech_Male> shy too. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> It's a family <Speech_Male> trait, man. It is, <Speech_Male> it is. All right, <Speech_Male> buddy. Before I <Speech_Male> get into <Speech_Male> providing the shadow <Speech_Male> to all our sponsors <Speech_Male> and I, of course, <Speech_Male> we'll do that in a <Speech_Male> second. You <Speech_Male> know, personal note, <Speech_Male> we're so busy, <Speech_Male> you especially traveling <Speech_Male> with ESPN this <Speech_Male> year and doing what you did <Speech_Male> with TSN. <Speech_Male> I can't tell <Speech_Male> you how much I appreciate <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> you taking the time <Speech_Male> to continue <Speech_Male> to provide <Speech_Male> the analysis, <Speech_Male> the fun, <Speech_Male> every once <Speech_Male> in a while, you'll bite, <Speech_Male> you'll swing back <Speech_Male> because the storylines <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> require that. <Speech_Male> But we started <Speech_Male> ray and Gregg's season <Speech_Male> one. We didn't <Speech_Male> really know what we were <Speech_Male> doing. We thought we <Speech_Male> did. You know, <Speech_Male> we both can talk and <Speech_Male> we're both connected to the <Speech_Male> hockey world. Well, <Speech_Male> let's do a podcast. <Speech_Male> This is great. <Speech_Male> I really feel <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> after season one, <Speech_Male> I think both of us were jeez. <Speech_Male> I don't know. Do we <Speech_Male> really want to do season two <Speech_Male> here? <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> And <Speech_Male> then we rolled through. <Speech_Male> We kind of found a <Speech_Male> stride. Season three <Speech_Male> for me has <Speech_Male> been terrific. <Speech_Male> It has been. <Speech_Male> And that's mostly <Speech_Male> because <Speech_Male> you've made it a priority. <Speech_Male> And <Speech_Male> when <Speech_Male> stuff happens, you roll <Speech_Male> with it. And <Speech_Male> you pop on the <Speech_Male> camera, turn on <Speech_Male> the microphone, <Speech_Male> and there's ray Ferraro <Speech_Male> just <Speech_Male> living life and <Speech_Male> talking hockey. <Speech_Male> So I <Speech_Male> credit any level of <Speech_Male> success we have to you, <Speech_Male> my friend, <SpeakerChange> and <Speech_Male> I want you to feel the <Speech_Male> same. <Speech_Male> Because thank you. <Speech_Male> I feel the same, <Speech_Male> you know, like <Speech_Male> we get into this and <Speech_Male> we're debating back <Speech_Male> and forth and talking <Speech_Male> about this. You <Speech_Male> do people <Speech_Male> need to know <Speech_Male> the framework of the <Speech_Male> show, the <Speech_Male> connection to the guests, <Speech_Male> the <Speech_Male> sending me a text <Speech_Male> and say, basically, <Speech_Male> hey, I know <Speech_Male> you forgot again. <Speech_Male> We're online <Speech_Male> now, which <Speech_Male> happened an <Speech_Male> hour ago. <Speech_Male> Drake, <Speech_Male> you do an amazing <Speech_Male> job at what you do. <Speech_Male> We're lucky to do <Speech_Male> this. We're lucky to <Speech_Male> have the <Speech_Male> support of our sponsors. <Speech_Male> The <Speech_Male> support staff that help <Speech_Male> us get this podcast <Speech_Male> on the air. <Speech_Male> And of <Speech_Male> course, with <Speech_Male> oat question, the <Speech_Male> people that listen <Speech_Male> and write in <Speech_Male> and support and <Speech_Male> subscribe <Speech_Male> without you it doesn't <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> happen. So <Speech_Male> I hope <SpeakerChange> everybody <Speech_Male> has a safe <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> fun and enjoyable <Speech_Male> summer <Speech_Male> and thanks again <Speech_Male> for listening. You're <Speech_Male> here. Here's to season <Speech_Male> four. A huge <Speech_Male> shout out to our partners <Speech_Male> who make this podcast <Speech_Male> possible. And <Speech_Male> make us look forward <Speech_Male> to season four as <Speech_Male> well. Our title <Speech_Male> sponsor, our pals <Speech_Male> at Canadian club <Speech_Male> whisky, who ask <Speech_Male> are you over <Speech_Male> beer? Thank you, <Speech_Male> Cece.

"Have to. Well, I think that's probably the best way to put that part of it is that even if you don't think that kids need this education, there's enough examples that clearly we all need this education. When all of this awakening happened a couple of years ago, three years ago. I remember talking to cammy in a couple of her friends. They were sitting around in there. They were talking about, you know, when you walk home at night. And they're always shoulder checking. They're always changing sides of the street. A woman on the way home. And I'm like, what do you mean? Like, I had no idea. I never had a sister. I never, you know, I had my wife, and I never even thought of it. And they're like, oh yeah, you have to be all the time. And I'm like, what the hell? I just had no concept. No idea. And it made me feel stupid and uninitiated into it. And so then I see this story and honestly, like, I'm like, who the hell is seeing anything like this? Like, what are they doing? This poor woman. Back to the start of at this poor young woman. She just wants to get on with her life. But whatever she decides is the right thing for her, might not be for this person or that person. But it's a terrible story and I think the sponsors here have a real, not have like the potential, but they're going to enact change by stepping away. They're going to force hockey Canada, which by extension will get into other organizations. There will have to be a new way forward. And that is the only possible positive thing of this. "Smart she is, all of those things. Just an obvious fit, would you say with a Montreal Canadiens to bring Marie Philippe into the development side while she's still playing? I was at a zero on the surprise meter when I'm like, it makes so much sense and so many different ways. I'm going to say when she retires, she will be considered the greatest female player ever. She's amazing in the way that she plays her drive, her talent. It's so obvious. I also think within very short order drakes, when a woman is named to a position in management or soon to be in coaching, it's just going to be a name. Yeah. And that's the way it should be. Like, congratulations to Marie Philippe. It's well deserved, start on her path to wherever that's going to take her, whether it's coaching or management and some prominent place in the game. But I'm happy that cammie got hired in Vancouver and yeah, it was a story, but it's becoming less of one by the day. I agree. I'm really happy about that. Because this is, this is a pool of talent of management of coaching of thinking of communicating that is never been tapped into before. And it is it the right time, all the right time was before. But since it's now, it is the right time. And good on the Canadians and good for her, apparently she's going to play a bit longer. And, you know, and we're lucky to watch her play and then she'll dive in full time, but yeah, good for her and it's just the right thing. Those are the headlines presented by our friends at Boston pizza. Our interviews on ray and Riggs are brought to you by our good pals at Canadian club whisky who are asking, are you over beer? It's available pretty much across Canada. We know summer is here and it takes all of the challenges out of making that CC and Ginger out on your own, doesn't it? You just pop the cap and you're good to go. Drake's just a little early here. As we tape, it's ten O 7 in the morning, but if I had 5 o'clock somewhere, the way I feel right now, I think a little wouldn't be out of the order. Enjoy it responsibly ray. Always. Get into the off season recharge and maybe hit the bike and get ready for next season. Yeah, it's well, we'll watch as much as we can. And as the staff was going to door here, instead of having those guys hang around here and start reviewing everything and what we want to change, I thought it was guys go glue yourselves to the TVs. Let's watch these games. Let's think about what we think will look like blacks next year and how we can play and if there's anything from these other teams that they're doing that we might want to take on. Before we go and fully evaluate our own. So I'm like you guys, I'm flipping from game to game every night as much as I can. I keep a real close eye on the Calgary there with my relationship with Daryl. He's had an immense effect on me personally and on my career probably one of the best tires I've ever made and so I'm always watching him his pressors are second. And animal work in some bike rides and family time around and the game never ends now. And I think it's a good thing. I think it keeps us all out of trouble. No kidding. But no, the old school. And I understand the long ways this part, but I'm not like a tremendous skater. So I would hate to trip on these long laces, but I can understand where you're coming from with the old school look. I gotta tell you hearing about your under gear, man, your stall mates, they must be thrilled. They must be ready to wear a towel. I wear a towel for a lot of it. You know, like if I'm walking around the room, I'll put a towel on. Tony says he's going to get me a bathrobe to wear around. Oh, that'd be nice. Number 5, rope. Yeah, but then I get the Hugh Hefner look, and then it's like a little too old school, you know? You can pull it off. We'll see. All right, Jake, well, look, man, we pick it up enough of your time. All the best you look like a perfect fit, both on and off the ice ave, obviously, for the Minnesota wild and for your family in Minnesota. So keep it going and all the best. Well, thanks to you guys as well too. I wanted to mention to you guys we're a big part of my childhood growing up in southern Ontario, Washington TSN every day. So thanks for having me on. "And some people dealt with it really well and others did not. I would say Jake de Broglie did not deal with it very well. He lost his game and then seemed powerless to get it back. It's like he lost, I'll say interest, but I don't really mean interest. I wish I had a better word. He lost the willingness to play the way he needs to play. And it seems like he's kind of found it again. So if I'm an acquiring team, I'm going to do my research and try and understand if the willingness is back part time because he's near the deadline when you feel that rush of adrenaline or if it's back all the time or most of the time, like you would hope with every player. The better he plays, the better it is for Boston. The better, the easier to make a deal because the team won't have to wonder if he can find his game. He's found it. And he's looked good in doing it. And the acquiring team would be more interested in paying closer to, I won't say a premium price, but a top price because he is playing well. But sometimes you make that, you make that, you make that declaration, you make it known you want to be traded. And it doesn't matter what's happened behind it. There is no bridge back. And that's the case in a lot. Those are your headlines brought to you by Boston pizza. I mean, his father, Jim, is only owned the Boston pizza chain for the last 50 years. So we'll see. I hope they've kept Brad's hands out of the kitchen. Have you ever seen him handle a puck? No. 4 o'clock. So I forgot an I didn't get into Brandon until the summer of 88. So he had just finished his one and only season with the Brandon wheat kings in 1987, 88 big, lumbering defensemen who went on to play a fair bit of pro hockey. Nothing in the national hockey. They handful of American League games, mostly in the east coast, but we're going to have some fun with them. Today on the podcast because I'm sure he has endless stories. He joined us, I think it was in season one..

"So from a strictly hockey perspective, which is what we're talking about. Exactly. It is a competitive disadvantage. So I'm at the game in Vancouver last night. And there's, I don't know, 9010 thousand people there because that's what was allowed there. Felt like there was somebody there. Yeah. Felt like there was some revenue coming in. The guys in front of me were pounding beers like crazy. They were having a great time, right? Now, everybody's got their mask on, except when they're drinking their beers or eating their food. And Winnipeg is among the teams that has nothing. Ottawa has gotten nobody there. Like, how do you expect those places to attract players? And I guess in essence, that's not the government's job. But if you're one of the owners, you've got to be banging on the government's door saying, what are we doing in one part of the country that we're not doing here? Is the virus different in Vancouver than it is in Winnipeg? Is this performance art? Like, what are we doing? They need some clarity. So they can get out into the marketplace to try to do the best they can. And I don't envy them. And pretty clearly, I sure as heck don't have the answers. Right. A health and a sport perspective. I mean, who does? No. Our interviews on ray and dregs are brought to you by our friends at Canadian club whisky, who are asking, are you over beer? Why not try a refreshing CC, Ginger ale of lime? Next time you're having a drink or watching a game. All right, here I am sitting with two successful.

"That in your face and having fun and right over the top and everything's done to the n-th degree and you know what? I absolutely love it. I think it's great. And good on them. Good stuff. All right, Bobby, well, I know you've got a busy time. I had no different than rape with. I do. I'll reach that to NHL. And have a drink and. After I finished it. After I finished that, I'm going to have a Canadian club for sure. And maybe a bottle of water. Awesome, ray. We'll see you in we'll see you in Edmonton. Greg will see you soon. I'm sure. And we'd like to raise our glass to bob McKenzie, Bobby margareta for joining us today, presented by our friends at Canadian club. I don't know why we should be our eyes should be surprised, but as bob has always been a pioneer, right? The first official insider when NBC had the telecast, it was bob bridged from Canada into the U.S. from an insider perspective. So now he's in semi retirement, although you'll be back full time for the world juniors. And he rolls out a refreshing beverage, which kind of paves the way for the rest of us. I mean, for a guy who wants to retire and not do a lot, he seems to get a lot done, doesn't he? He does, but he does it on his time frame fair. Yes. Because when bob goes to the cottage in the summer, you get a better chance of finding a guy on the moon than getting to hold the ball. You've texted him when he's out there. Oh, yeah. He'll get back to you. It might be a day or two. Yeah. But he'll get back to you. I think he's got a list there. You know, Bobby's always got his pad and paper. Yeah. And he just starts drags, ray, James, whoever did is text him. And he'll get back to us, donkeys, whatever, whatever the time is. He is work, I don't, I don't think it really understood how much time on the clock you guys put to try and put stories together and try and find an angle and he's done a long time. So I'm glad he's I'm glad he's mostly retired. I hope he's enjoying retirement and you know he's talking to us about places he wants to go when things like that go do it. Go and do it. I Bobby Mack has a great retirement, but I hope he doesn't I hope he doesn't put his feet up here at the world junior tournament this year. You know, it's not a holidays yet, bob. Get off your ass. Not quite yet. Thanks to Bobby back for joining us. Rain rank season three episode.
