Tribal nations are already available to everyone. Jennifer show is a nurse. Practitioner at fort belknap tribal health department. She says they are. Well positioned to distribute the vaccine because of partnerships with indian health service and a longstanding public health nursing program that trained nine local nurses who handled contact tracing at the beginning of the pandemic girls. Were ready to go ready to start helping. Get the axing out with our population which is another plus for us. The girls work out in that area and they know how to get a hold of them. Which i think kind of helped us with getting. This rolled out so much faster as well. Tribes are also try and create a vaccination strategies show says fort belknap tribal health began vaccinating teenagers in the area. Canaan Unconquered - Rachel Havrelock

"And kinda interested in talking about the person joshua. He's the title character of this book and he himself from my understanding of scholarly work on biblical criticism or otherwise. He himself has a story like an origin story. That some people think is kind of a retrospection where like after the fact. He's put into the torah in a way that he may not have always been there. And what i'm referring to is specifically. His glory story is that he's one of the two folks in the twelve spies story that goes into the promised land and says This is great all the other ten folks. All land is terrible. Joshua caleb are on the good side that god likes and because it's the land that they're supposed to go to am. I right in my understanding of that. How scholars look at that person joshua and to what extent to we learn more about him in talking about the book that's named after him. Joshua indeed has a book named after him but is one of the flatter hand more hollow biblical characters. I mean for readers. Go in sequence so you know redo romney in which moses in vary tragic psychological terms wrestles with his impending death. And you know even with the existential reality of death itself. so we're going through it moses psyche and when we can turn out of the penza out of the five books of moses when we opened the book of joshua we have an entirely flat character. You know joshua is really characterized by his obedience and interestingly enough has no title right once called the servant of god is not labeled a profit is not labeled a judge is not labeled a king. I mean we get the news of general because he leads these battles but he doesn't even have a title biblical literature does have great literature and just have complex characters. Josh was not one of them. And you can't really do. A lot of psychological depth with an icon in joshua right becomes an icon of this army of this ancient near right to really kind of like a strobe of what i would call. Ancient national is now. I believe that the book of joshua is ultimately synthesized by a group of editors that we call the or novelists they are the ones that are also very smart editors so joshua ends up becoming a kind of a tool that the nommik editors really use to kinda. We've eras together and also to contain a kind of perfect model right. They wanna leader in their language. Who neither the left nor the right right who keeps torah. You know kind of the cuff at all times. And so they give joshua authority by putting him back the times of most read someone who experienced the whole exodus and even while being a member of this desert generation right the generation of the liberated slaves joshua and his spy buddy caleb right are portrayed is the only two who believe in going to war in this land. So i think that's right. I think the shooter anonymous create joshua to be an icon of the kind of unity to which they aspire and one more piece that all add to your question about joshua and caleb who again are depicted is these faithful spies who go against the will of their generation. I love it kinda that the liberated slaves don't want to go to war. I feel like we haven't done enough to really like reclaim that biblical antiwar position expressed by that generation. But you know. John lewis show like i said he's a. He's a tutoring nommik creation. But there's a lot of northern stuff going on with joshua and caleb is a southern figure just as these editors could really say we've always been at war with canaanites. Their system could also absorb later alliances. So kayla who. This southern figure is a canoe. He's a kennedy and the candidates are ultimately a group that gets absorbed under the tribe of judah the twelve tribes structure is very good at pointing to those people who are on the outside who jumped. Don't join the alliance and saying those e mites those canaanites those jebusites there are enemies. But it's also good at absorbing groups that might join the alliance at their own pace and saying. Oh well that's caleb. He's the head of the kennedy clan and that's a sub family of judah so so both things are possible for trying to account for political alliances. Can we situated some of what you're talking about in some sense of historical time to understand sort of when the actual events that are being responded to her happening versus the time where the story is set. What's going on geopolitically. And the time of the israelites when they are making all these alliances. And then if i understand the approximate timeframe here they're basically writing and rewriting these stories that are functionally taking place around five hundred years earlier. Right i mean the so. It almost becomes like their writing and rewriting and massaging this almost like mythic prehistory. It's not just like they're telling a story from fifty years ago differently. They're telling a story from five hundred years ago differently. I'm just curious if you could give us some sense of what was actually going on in in their world at that time that was motivating them to do all this so yes. Speaking about time wine this is the kind of thing. Bible scholars go to conferences to fight of out. So let me kind of breakdown this picture together with a time line let me start somewhere with is a very important piece of poetry and it's important because because of how it serves as a historical in and that's song of deborah and the song of jabra with we believe based on its grammar and syntax is one of the oldest texts in the bible and some people even speak about the year twelve hundred bc. Jabra sings about a war and she sings that some tribes came and fought in the war in some sat home so she disparages the tribes who sat home and she sings the praises of the tribes who k. That's very important to me because it shows that the success or failure of a given tribe in war depended upon their allies. Were so we see major major motivation for these processes of consolidation. Many scholars have shown how end the nine eight century. B c e you've got these policies of consolidating clans in schreiber's into something that looks like a pro donation. This is happening in the region. And it's about war you know. Because if you're national formation right if or if you're a bunch of tribes and you've got a consolidated federation of people's you're gonna lose but then we get you know eighth century b. c. e. the rise of empires in particular syria and the threat of assyria marching. You know or the egyptian empire has its second wind around this time. It's that process. That i think gets people thinking we've got come up. You know with a larger scale organization in army. And so josh. Shaw gives this army which is kind of being configured in real time it gives this army kind of heroic prehistory behind which people can march. And so it means you know that it works and doesn't work because the syrian army takes out the northern kingdom the kingdom of israel in seven twenty two but ends up sparing the kingdom of

Creating job opportunities by closing the urban-rural digital divide

"Me today matt dunn founder and executive director of the non-profit center on rural innovation matt. Thank you very much for joining me today. A great to be with you. I don't know how many folks out there no the nonprofit so when it you give us a kind of overview on what your mission is sure The center on rural innovation is an action tank. That is dedicated to closing the urban rural economic divide and we focused on building digital economy ecosystems to make sure that there is a more equitable economy particularly in the face of automation. Very important topic is the broadband. As as part of this. I think so. Why don't we start with that. Tell me what your organization has been doing how you've been working to make sure there's an equitable access to broadband even before the pandemic. We knew that if you're going to create a digital economy jobs in rural places which are the The the jobs that grow out of automation and the other a real trends bar time that you had to be on a level playing field in those economic models and the very basic level is you need to have access to broadband you need to be able to collaborate with people Only in your immediate community but all over the world you need to have access to data and data analytics. An you need to have access to the what is now. The largest supercomputer ever created which is the cloud computing infrastructure that can allow for a technology of products and services to do to really thrive But only if you have that connection to them so we Been doing work in communities in partnership with a company called c. Technologies to help those rural communities. Do the pre-development understand. What are the business models. What are the organizational structures and the funding resources. That can allow them to build fiber to the home that will provide essentially future-proof can activity speeds in ones. That are frankly faster than you can usually get in big cities like new york and san francisco. The interesting part of this process is that many people think that it's impossible to bring world class broadband to rural places in. It's just not true In fact role communities pretty much one at a time have gone through a scrappy individualized process of bringing fiber to the home in communities. That census tracts represent over ten million world people so this canaan be done. They're usually done in hybrid public private partnerships of some kind and in many cases. They're leveraging the kinds of organizations that brought electrcity to those regions of the country when the marketplace wouldn't do that on the their own cooperative electric companies municipal electric companies small telephone companies with special status From the fcc. And those have been the laboratories of innovation of bringing broadband and now other communities are developing things like telecommunication union districts that can bridge over municipal boundaries county boundaries to create a quasi public enterprises. That can still leverage low cost capital through municipal bonds while delivering a broadband product. Their constituents that can really work and be financially sustainable interesting how this is being done piecemeal but i think covert has really pointed out. You know. it's you know it's sometimes takes a a a nationwide event to really draw. Focus on how important something like this. This infrastructure is when it comes to work and when it comes to schools and to help the pandemic really laid bare. What many of us already knew which was the lack of universal broadband and a lack of of equity that was true in creating what was known the. Fcc has the homework gap because even if you were doing most of your school day in a school that plenty of access if there was a differential in your ability to access content After school it wasn't that different from when the kids who had electricity in their home were able to read books at night and who who weren't so But and now that everything is online and many schools are going up partially or fully remote. The inequity becomes even more pronounced. If you can't go to a library for that type of access because the the libraries are close to patrons and it's a little depressing to see in in many row places folks sitting in their cars outside of a library building or a school building trying to get the wifi. That's coming out of the windows. It's not what the Most affluent nation in the world should be be seeing a the other is

Wrapping up Genesis 1-11

"Today we're recapping genesis one through eleven. So let's just start with this. Let's it'd be good you just kind of a very high level recap and summary Jt how does the story of genesis start off. Give us the first couple of chapters in the beginning. God creates heaven and the earth. So we see this god who Implicit in this story has existed. Always he is eternal he is all powerful and just by the word of his power. He speaks creation into existence. Anything that we would see. Physical and spiritual is created by god. We we walk through. How he he then forms and then he fills and how these creating this world and he's calling good this world is is is made for To to to demonstrate his goodness and beauty. the pinnacle of this creation is image bearers genesis. One twenty six one twenty six to twenty eight talks. About how adam. Adam or humanity both adam and eve are created to represent and reflect the goodness and beauty of god to all of his creation that he has just made because he says it's very good. Yeah but instead of reflecting guide they choose to rebel against god Trying to subvert his word in his authority by inverting the created order. They listen to the voice of the serpent. They eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They end up naked in a shame. They have not just eating the wrong fruit from the wrong tree. But they rebelled against the lord who created them and holds the whole earth together and in doing so they find themselves alienated from alias. A true knowledge of self alienated from one another and alienated from the natural order. And we hear that they're going to be consequences because of this rebellion but there is also hope In the light of this rebellion. That god is going to send one through the seed of the woman who would crush the head of the seed of the serpent and we end that fall account with that story of rebellion with a just a glimmer of hope. That eve is the mother of all living. And that god has covered then in a covered their nakedness and their shame But yet things continue to spiral out with the story of cain and abel where the sons of adam and eve cain and abel cain kills abel and there is an increased exile meaning kanus scattered. And he's supposed to live scattered and live in exile really as the consequence of his sinful rebellion the world continues to just become increasingly wicked increasingly evil which brings us the story of noah. Yeah so we're giving to genealogies. Show us that there's this unrighteous line and then there is this righteous line We're told that people begin to call on the lord as things get darker and then we find ourselves face to face with noah who is a man of righteousness in a time of great darkness The most famous boat and all of history at the command of the lord and he and eight family members are brought through a d. creation And a recreation narrative they're carried through the waters of death to life on the other side thus setting up one of biggest themes that we see in scripture And then on the other side of it we find that while judgment has been meted out on the human race. Unfortunately the sin problem lives within humans and has been carried in the heart of noah and in the hearts of his family and so We're we received the even in these early chapters that A great deliver will still be needed. One who is not Carrying sin in his inward being Most moses gives us the picture of noah falling into sin he then gives us the implications of this in a way that is telling his original audience. This is why you are going to meet these great enemies as you enter the land of canaan. so it's a story for them and for them but it's also a story for us in for now as we evaluate our great enemies the world the flesh and the devil and how they'd be set us every day Were then issued from that story of noah and the flood into The table of nations. Everyone's most riveting and favorite passage in scripture Which is showing us what happens. Actually after the tower of babel how humankind is spread across the face of the earth and And is now speaking in many different languages as we see At the tower of babel god frustrating their efforts to be city builders on their own terms. God will have a city built. He will have. It built according to his terms and no matter what opposition is set up by humankind seeking to do now in In in congress or with one another what was first done in the garden. He will reign and rule supreme

I'm not here to slam them, but do a little research. You can find it. Ah, when you make a reservation for a rental car, and then they call you the day before to make sure that you're coming. This is what Jerry said. You know how to take the reservation. You just don't know how to hold on. That's really the most important part of the reservation. The holding anybody could just take him willy nilly. You could describe them out of the air as Dixie inside Phil. Hoped extra scene signed phone. The First Days: Genesis

"Audience. For Genesis, is crucial and particularly when we get to these first days, we've covered this a little bit already, but it'd be good to just circle back so that we make sure that the audience knows This is who the original audience is for the book of Genesis and so when we're talking about the book of Genesis, we're talking about kind of. Volume one of a five book series called the Pinta toot the first five books of the Old Testament Genesis Exodus Leviticus numbers, deuteronomy these books are entrusted. These words are revealed to Moses who is now the representative rescuer and leader for the people of Israel, and they are getting this revelation on the outside of Egypt. They have been rescued from Egypt they have been brought to Mount Sinai and goddess forming then to take them in to Canaan to the promise land that is the original audience. This is post exodus Israel hearing from y'all way creator of the world. So they're hearing a creation story. That predates them significantly, it goes all the way back not just before their time in Egypt but before father Abraham all the way back back back back to the beginning and why is this crucial for us to understand when we start looking at genesis one through eleven that this is who the original audience is. Yes. So one of the reasons Moses writing is because he wants to prepare that they're in that in between space between they've left and where they're headed and so he writes these first five to give them roots and shoots. He wants to root them in. This is where you came from and he wants to give them shoots. He wants to give them something that will hold them steady. In the place that they're going so it's it's the history and the law is the combination that you're gonNA. See there and we talked about in a previous episode about the sort of the classic worldview questions that that these eleven chapters in particular are asking and answering, and as you pointed out Kyle I think that they're not just asking and answering those questions in a vacuum. So those questions of. Where did I come from? Why am I here what's the problem? What's the solution those questions are being asked and answered within the context of where they came from and where they're headed so that they will understand why Israel is a nation set apart yeah. Yeah. That's really good and so. We the roots and shoots thing is that's very valuable. So the story is not just. Oh, you did. Okay. Great I am I. The only one here is not just add living. GOLLY shoot. Now. Yeah. I think that that's really good in it reminds me of something for end of the show friend friend of ours WHO's taught for us in different environments that roots and shoots. Things reminds me of what Jerry. Jones says jt you're gonNA love this quote. You remember it. If he says, your creation story determines the trajectory of your culture. The. Roots and shoots thing where like. Israel is receiving a creation story and jt through this word out in an earlier episode but it's important I think it's important. To capture this creation story, we could call that a cosmology. COSMOLOGY and they're receiving it in in a world of competing. Creation Stories competing cosmology. Jt isn't that right? Like Israel is not just they're not like Ginseng. Story in a vacuum. They're receiving the story in a world where there are other accounts of how this has happened at yeah. Just back up what is what is cosmos? Like? Why do we have the word cosmology? What does it mean? Are you asking me? Yeah, I'm asking you is used it so you should make him to find it. I don't know if he can but I'm pretty sure you know I'm just getting. Yeah. I mean it's just talking about the. Creation of the cosmos of the world like it's it's just a fancy way of talking about the creation account and how to make sense of who is the Creator? What is the creation? What is the purpose of the crater creation relationship? You'd say, yeah, absolutely I mean, in some ways, cosmology would be like theology cosmos is the world the Earth, right? So it's like study of the World Study of the Earth Account of the world words about the world whereas theology is words about God's when we're talking about cosmology or cosmology as we're talking about words about the world, the account of creation or how things came to. Be.

"Welcome to the amateur traveler I'm your host Chris Christensen? Let's talk about Bosnia. I like to welcome to the show. Canaan Charter, which who is coming from Bosnia and his coming to us from highlander adventures dot, be and has come to talk to us about Bosnia Herzegovina. Canaan welcome to the show. Thank you very much happy to be here excellent and for people who can't find Bosnia and Herzegovina on a map. Where are we talking about? Well. Everyone knows how to find Italy. It's a big shoe ships country. You have a boot-shaped country, so just go to the right side across the Atlantic Sea and we are right there. Well and your neighbor of Croatia. Bosnia you know goes around like little crescent moon. knoll on the West and south, and then these we have Serbia and southeast Montenegro. I to address. You're interested in making sure that people understand that. If they remember news about Bosnia, they may be remembering news from twenty thirty years ago when Bosnia was going through. A, war that's done, and that's been done now for quite a long time there there are people who are out in the working world who don't remember that and it's a wonderful place to go I. Want to say that I was anxious to do this show because we haven't done a show on Bosnia for a long time. And since then I have been to the country and loved it. So why should someone go to Bosnia Herzegovina? Well, there is a lot of reasons depending what you're interested in now. Bosnia is very complex country, but extremely small size of Pennsylvania, but inside. You have so much for the adventure seekers. There are so many adventure opportunities from Whitewater. Rafting canyoning to paragliding hiking is spectacular, and then if you're into history, we say that we have much more history than we can handle. Different Than Empires were here. We like to say where the crossroads or that where the meeting between the East and the West. Culturally very complex country, and also religiously we have Muslims, we have the Orthodox Christians, and we have Catholics with three big groups. Of course there's the Jewish community here which has been here since they were thrown out of Spain after Kista, so for five hundred years, all of these make this crazy, crazy and beautiful mix that very interesting for foreigners to see because inside I will for example and. And in many other cities in Bosnia, you can pined mosque Docs Church Catholic, Church and a synagogue literally in two hundred meter radius, and it's been like that for five hundred years while inside I will because that's how will the city is? And all of a Bosnia and we're very proud of that architecturally very different from anything else you can find in Europe you're GonNa, find this mix of. Of European styles as well as the optimum styles and a lot of course, local Bosnian styles in all of that mixed together will like to say that we are a Bosnian pots. That's one dish that we have. It's cooked in a big pot with a lot of things, mixed sight, and that's Bosnia a lot of things mixed, and it works perfectly. An Indian taste is fantastic why you should. Should visit Bosnian well. Whatever you choose. You're GONNA love it. If you're into history too much of it, you're into nature. It's absolutely stunning. It's fantastic, magic Pennsylvania, and then put inside the Rockies Grand Canyon Inca trail at a lot of other things as well a bit of New Zealand as well. We just like seaside. We have twenty four kilometers of seaside, so that's one thing with them have. And then, of course, for actually learning history or getting certain messages, let's say about life about history. How people live together or how they don't like each other, because while we had a lot of wars, let's especially in the last two hundred years. There's a lot of lessons that you can learn in Boston. Let's say war tourism doctors is now very big part of tourism in in Bosnia so if you want to learn about that, we are definitely to come to see what happens. If you don't defeat fascism, like most of Europe defeated off the Second World War and it actually shows how life can be both good and the bat also if you want to visit a place. which is completely different than rest of the Europe and very relaxed very laid back with fantastic food, most at a lot of reasons I think.

"Welcome to. Episode Two forty seven. Where later on we'll talk about famous musicians, homes and To, do the story I saw one country post a whole story about Taylor swift multiple million dollar homes. They kind of walked through all of our houses. She has right now. which is pretty crazy, I think it's thirty million dollars in total. So that's what Eddie and I talked about in a little bit, so you WanNa, hang out for that, but the whole site is. Call. One Country Dot Com and they say. Does she live in New, York or Los Angeles Nashville or Rhode Island, but the answers all of them. And they go through her Nashville place when she first started to make money by the two million dollar Nashville place where she knocked out the wall and I know where this place is. It's right next to music. Do you know what I don't know well I don't know if they're that much, but do you know where Taylor owns? No I should say. Right near the radio station. In Rhode Island. She has a twelve thousand square foot beach mansion fayed seventeen point seven five million dollars for it. So she has all summer parties. Someone broke into and it. Is it I think so well looks like a fortress. But there is a lot of grass surrounding. It's you could get to like in new. York, she bought these two apartments, and not to wall out, and the modest third and knocked another wallowed. So! They. Have that dinner for twenty five million dollar. I guess it's more than thirty dollars. Because in two thousand fifteen purchase the estate of Movie Mogul Samuel Goldwyn for twenty five million. So they gives her to oems in. Nashville wants to parents an awesome apartment in New York a beach house in Rhode Island Mansion in California. Yeah, that's way more than thirty million dollars. Agatha her. so we talked about a lot of people that are dead and alive and their homes and let's. ETC So. Glad you guys are checking it out on. Rage against the machine was a standard. And sounds contemporary. Yeah, that's what I was surprised by like. Well, that's him. When I was a teenager, we would listen to ragent. "Let's take a look at I. Guess the mandatory series win. You got done watching it. I guess. How overall satisfied were you with it up and down for you like this episode was good? But this episode is kind of a Dud. What what was your first impression as a whole I think I'd dug the whole the whole series whole a few more times? I really dug it from beginning to end when it was down it was still great. Its lowest points were still pretty high points. Okay overall. I really dug it but I also have like a huge love of Westerns and Samurai movies. And this kind of felt like it kind of felt like a way for star wars to play in a new sandbox. It felt very reminiscent of the original trilogy while also managing to kind of have its identity. Yes okay segues is into a good point. I noticed right away on the series the simple things like the fades from scene to scene. Where the same little you'll circular fades aides or sideswipe fades from? Yeah from you hope. You cannot do that when I graduated from film school. One of one of the things they told us in in film school is don't ever do that. It looks it looks amateur. It looks bad. Really for whatever reason star wars can do it and the reason they the reason they can do it is because they just kind of did it at a time when they were defining what Star Wars. This is so when episode four came out or Star Wars or the original movie nineteen seventy seven when that came out already visually. It was so distinct and so oh very specifically star wars that it can incorporate silly things like a like a cross dissolve across fade or a circle Michael Fade or whatever you wanNA call them It can do that because it is star wars and and if you saw that if you went to go watch the avengers and and you see that really slow white from the right side of the screen to the left side of the screen to transition. It would look very out of place in Lynn very artificial because because that's not part of cinema language but it is a part of Star Wars language and incorporating that into the man. delorean was something. I've thought was incredibly smart. Yes you actually see that in things like Djeddai Fallen Order And a lot of video games as well. Okay we'll incorporate that in the cut scenes it just it's A. It's an easy visual indicator that this is star wars I love that when I saw that on the very episode. That was one of the simple simple fan services that the what other fans services or things did you see that Cairo. I the main thing. The first first thing I saw for sure was was the rifle and everybody talks about the right okay but it deserves to be talked about talking about man. Does the knife owned the mandatory rifle. Yeah it's It's it's kind of like a long rifle with a tuning fork. Yes that was Boba Fett rifle in the holiday special which is the infamous holiday special which I've seen and it is as bad as everybody says and it's not like it's not like a challenge to go watch it do do not watch it. Don't and watch it. It's not it's not even worth laughing at. It's it's so hard to watch but In the BLU ray release of the Star Wars The star awards box set episodes one through six on the bonus disc. There's actually an Easter egg on their. That has the entire animated segment from the holiday special. Yes so you can actually see that and it's really cool but in that segment it's very much like a Ralph Bakshi inspired character design. It's really Kinda cool but you do see Z.. BOBA FETT teaming up with Luke at first and then he betrays him but he's got this weird rifle that should never ever work and everybody thought it was a cool looking rifle. I never thought we'd seen it and live action. Let alone we would disintegrate people. Yes that was another little throwback to empire pyre when vader tells Boba Fett notice integration. Yes because he had that rifle and rifle disintegrates. Yes it does look a little bulky on him but they still make it work. It works completely nothing about again. That goes back to what I was saying before about the visual language of star wars and again in the empire strikes rex back in the original theatrical cut. There's a shot on cloud city of a guy running through running through cloud city as it's being attacked by the empire but he's holding. What's supposed to look like a futuristic device but even in the eighties? Everybody was like that is an ice cream maker. Awesome husband was just running with an ice cream maker but they brought that back And so the the client played by Verna Herzog. He actually carrying all of his best car in one of those ice cream. Oh and so. That is another throwback that I really so when he opens up the best guard the open up that containers just the ice cream maker and it's the same kind of ice cream maker that that that extra was carrying awesome and it's Super Fund. It has no bearing on anything. If you didn't know that it's it doesn't take away or add anything to it except for the factory like I know that the super fans hansel catch it. Sure the casual fan okay. Whatever you know they won't even notice it but still get to enjoy it absolutely? Yeah and the show is filled with stuff like that. There is an episode where the episode with Bill Burr where they go to like a heist episode. Yes super the prison ship. Yeah there is one on living person on that ship. That person was played by Matt. Land Her who was the voice of anecdotes skywalker in the clone wars. Yeah and a whole bunch of other stuff but it's cool to have that clancy brown played a de Veroni wasn't Ronin. He was different. He was a different species. He was the red guy the horn. Yeah but The Big Guy. Yeah but that was clancy Brown. who was the voice of sabotage press and a bunch of other true in the rebels? Yeah and and Star Wars rebels he was sabotage press. It was really cool to see people from the animation side of things being incorporated into the live action. which is the kinds of stuff? I want to see moving forward with specific characters. Sure On the inverse of that you know we're we're getting to see live action or we're getting see animation people in live action and on the mandatory and then also in Rizal Skywalker. We got sorry guys. I'm talking about it. We got to hear. Canaan from rebels was one of the voices. You heard you heard Soka. You heard every you know people who were doing voices specifically for the cartoons in for for super fans you know which if I may indulge myself they already introduced you as a superfan. Oh good good a resident expert. Sorry whatever is just whatever cooler than I actually am but it was really fun to be able to to see those things. And if let's say I'm talking to you Leigh and you have no idea who Canaan is and we see rise skywalker you're thinking it's super cool because you're seeing this really cool scene. I think it's super cool because I'm seeing is really cool scene and also Kanaan's yeah and so it's just kind of another little the thing and and the reason I bring rays of Skywalker with this is because it's all happening right now right now You know we can. We can talk about this next year when you know when I owned the box set of the man delorean and I own the skywalker. Saga and I can watch those at the same time and and it doesn't necessarily have the same effect because we can watch it whenever this is something unique to December of two thousand nineteen this is as we're experiencing the lore. which again there are some of us like like you and I who will watch the cartoons and the TV shows and read the books and read the comments but there are are some people who only will take the movies or now the TV shows as that's all they know about wars and that's totally cool but at this point you know we saw in the Manda Laurean the child the baby iota used the force to heal somebody and a week later? We're watching the rise of skywalker skywalker. And we're seeing those same force. Power is being used and just from a serial point of view for storytelling. I I'm completely fascinated by. I'm really really excited that I can experience it this way and nobody else was going to experience it this way in now even now. We're we're staring at the New Year here in the next couple of days. People aren't going to be able to experience it that way anymore. Because it's already happened past and it's kind of a lightning in a bottle

Looking Back at the Nissan GT-R

"Arthur to GTRI's reign as the king of Drew Bay had had ended with one of the most controversial finishes in Australian Touring Car Championship history. The following rule changes heavily favored home favourite manufacturers. There's Holden and Ford over the Japanese Nissan but instead of giving up completely the GT our team. Regrouped and refocused. Would you say that they were trying to get. That's how we're going to do it. Got The team was now led by Kozo Watanabe. And is that the any relation to watanabe wheels. No idea so sorry. I'M GONNA look it up later. And Frankly James there. It wasn't a better man for the job Remember that Japanese Grand Prix back in the sixties where I mean the whole reason. This car exist okay. Well a young a young Kozo was at the very first one and saw the old prince cars get defeated by the British and Italian race cars. It was almost by destiny that he lied the. Gt Our team. The team wanted to address two main performance criteria number one understeer. That's when you know you turn your wheel and get a straight. Yeah you don't turn as well so you think it's the opposite of drifting. Exactly and to stiffness. I really wish we had that soundboard money in regards to the second. You know there's like spring thing. Yeah on the wall like that would be as ever Canaan and through the magic of technology awesome in regards to the second part. Art The stiffness engineer and test driver hero Yoshi Kato welded brace bars underneath the car. While testing an art thirty three prototype at the nurburgring to stiffen the car up. He's like the shit sucks. It's time to get her done. Get the thirty. Three's wheelbase was four inches longer. An an inch wider than the previous JEN. The bodywork was much smoother to Looking down downright slippery in comparison to the thirty two's boxy appearance. And so I mean you look at them next to each other. It's definitely a bigger car I I'd say that the R thirty three like when I think of GT ours. Obviously I think are thirty two or thirty three thirty four which we'll talk about later? The are thirty. Three I think is a little bit of the black sheep of the family and it's like a true middle child. Yeah absolutely I like when you said when I think of the GTRI. I'd never think of the are thirty three although it's one of the cool cars in the fast and furious and it's also one of the fastest. Gtri will will get into that and they're legal to import to the United States this year too. That's it's awesome. I know It turns out that this longer wheelbase was a great addition. The are thirty three was more stable at high speed and the reworked aerodynamics reduced lift in the Front by nearly half which greatly increased the grip which helped that understeer and like. I've driven Jesse's car couple times. And you drove your buddies Audi Audi of and s four like you're like yeah all wheel drive great. It's great but then we have it easy like get it. It's because you you get the oversteer from the rear wheels but then you feel this poll from their front and so fun more drive all wheel cars. The more that I get to like it becomes apparent that that's like the best settlement. It's the best way to power the G. R. had a redesigned all wheel drive system. That could better split the torque between all four wheels which saw the understood problem as well. The rear wheel steering system was also upgraded with electric Servoz instead of hydraulic pollick which could be adjusted on the fly faster and more accurately than the hold hydraulic high. Caste system. A lot of people think that the thirty three is face. Lifted Arthur to but as as we've learned not the case not the case what an IB signs team used the art. Thirty G ARTHUR TO GT are formula but improved on it in every way all said and done the thirty three was twenty seconds faster than the R thirty two round the nurburgring which is insane at seven minutes and fifty nine seconds making it the first production car to officially break into the sevens.

"Get started where we always Josie track report. He's focusing on Paknum. Is that Roger Riot true good for for their cap. Mating expecting nightline around saw should be beautiful conditions. A little bit of wind. Fifteen to twenty five says Wesley. So it'll be in their faces in the strike but look twenty-five Kaiser that track is very exposed so you can be partial to a lot of wind but only twenty five. You'll have too much impact but if it does it'll be in a headwind in the strike. Usually we always speak abaout back. Nakas Nakas really. Low percentage apply but they even packing him a little bit. You can swing moored such a long strike. Get your opportunities. So I expect to play fairly daily but not as big a disadvantage being off the spade was a couple of other tracks like awful prices. spayed it's not such a big disadvantage banging packing on the the soft six a drawing soft six. We hope can help these conditions move on the worst of that five and the troops truce off six just going to have have to say this race play. These track plays. I think it's in that because they've obviously had to irrigate heavily throughout the WACO. I just can't imagine come rice my warning that track. He's a fix it from the way that we've got coming up. So this is one of those guys. Josie we talk about it. You can get the older. One is my wife until the day before. Let's apply on the die in. Let's have good advice there are. We have pointed caveat here we're going to cover off plenty of rice from packing them and then we're going to have the group stop. Where else would we stop the sports bed packing them? Cop shows you might not be the the greatest of fields but there is definitely a winner here to be fan and the boys duvall on sacred buys is your fiber to two dollars. Forty five Chapada at six dollars ca calves off at seven dollars credence seven fifty nine dollars. Fifty Midterm Return Twelve Bucks back then the bottom the big awards strapping. Who they're at the doors Josie the Matt Pretty Canaan Valiquette Alec Is? Let's be honest does Ram trucks. y'All want me having a sin south probably get up there. I'm I absolutely the Rondo full with James Locks to go forward meet term probably lost two weeks ago with a capital loss whenever it was to actually go run away to go forward guys horses and usually put some genuine Tampa sacred wise and Chapada. They've got sticky guides. It'd just be interesting. I think Chapada probably goes back sacred on the seven day backup. Wouldn't be surprised if they beat. The bullet sort of went forward and try to find a spot of us even want to be posted. Three Ward Dare nightside with no Kebab imortant just carry much just bought the bulletin go forward and if it does find a spot I think it is the winner or I have marked opted to thirty four. I think the price is pretty good at the moment tales. Forty five dollars fifty. You can get. I think he's got to be Mardi heart debate. I think he's just the raw vine form fourth up here. He's on the quake seven dieback which we love. We ask dying offices. He's very good at many valley. It was only moderate Tampa but hyman about eleven on last week which is pretty good for the die. He's got twenty four hundred meter win at core field backing April and that was in good time ran a terrible light section. But it doesn't matter if you're on like section. It's terrible if you live in front who absolutely ks not may not getting that I am with sacred I I think he's perfectly placed. Twenty five hundred meters. No concern has one of the twenty four caufield teamwork. And he's a really good bit very good Josie and instead you have to give this pushes is wow. You're be very keen on cigarettes yell at the process of live nation. When you look at the field what invading? He tends to pick himself. Lock the backup as well as three eight nine cava facing the braves. It was a solid test to bait rupture who ran quite well in Bendigo Cup on dog running that Benny. CK kept backing behind. Him Wasn't too far beyond him. Control on through that the cows off he loomed to win but then didn't unquote run an ad. It at Ballarat Ballarat sports bit Beller at Cup. So more question Maki's a strong two thousand five hundred for Loyd cows off at that value. He was fourth close. But I can't seem running strong twenty-five and Beta sake replies if you look carry and you're running the best in the rice with the lack of speed I think across in use it and then lock and load after the first four hundred Maracaibo is interesting drawn. Lie He can roll. Fold and hold a Pasi Savvy Oak just court shaw with him but I think Chapada is the is the binding and the reason for that. He's got attach a class in a little bit of expecter about him and I'll side is because he still a young horse trying to form. These Weinstein ranks third against the autumn Sun a group living in Sydney and and then the southern France. He wasn't far off at seven France. who was you know some form of Melbourne Cup? Chance going into that Mobile Cup this year. So he's drawing awkward could but he's got fifty five and a half if he can find tile and get some Cabot Chapada up. Capitalism is a danger to sacred on the backups differently. The debate Vandeweghe because he can in sty. He'll run the two thousand five hundred and he's drawing low and you'll get a soft around. I think the full wakes fresh. He's the value so I'm gonNA clued in time. Rice moldy a little bit lighter. We'll talk to that right. A choice they josie just very quickly. You spoke about the Quick Seven Day backup has backed up. Before Sake reply back it was twelve hundred boy. Mouse Madrid renforce. Enforce was twenty to one side nine on the quick seven day. Backup

This Accounts for 15% of Violent Crime in the U.S.

"It makes up fifteen percent of all violent crime yet often remain shrouded behind silence inside the dark world of domestic violence also known as private violence intimate terrorism Rachel Louise starters folks include fugitive dental moving story of people in pants and a borderless world of global trade in the novel what we've lost is nothing been the recipient of an overseas Press awards he's an associate professor at American University and the new book is no visible bruises what we don't know about domestic violence can kill us and it was recently awarded the J. Anthony Lukas work in progress award welcome Rachel how are you I'm great thank you so much for having me this is an absolutely chilling pork and in many cases women in preparing for their own deaths I was told to ask you first though on your tour right you but you had some experience with domestic violence or something the savage irony yeah well three weeks ago I came home and I to a phone call that one of my closest friends brothers had killed his wife family here and it lives near me my daughter is really close friends with one of their two daughters and yeah so I'm frontline in my personal life with their right now on it just been unbelievable well let me start with this then to this is been about a week ago the twenty fifth anniversary of the OJ Simpson murder case the time it appeared in a criminal way she's got away with murder and attacked the reputation of the victims have at how things change in your mind since that event in some ways they've changed a great deal I mean we didn't have a federal law against child abuse in this country until the nineteen eighty four just a decade before Nicole brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were killed so if you look at it if you if you look at that view of history we've made quite a lot of progress since then what tracking it now we have all kinds of training that are out there we learned a lot but there are so many examples in fact since twenty seventeen three Alan homicide rate in this country has gone up thirty three percent it feels very much like a step forward or step back if you're looking at it from my point of view I know if you know this so but I'll just do it quickly we've had a a woman right in the next town over New Canaan Jennifer Davalos who disappeared and her husband who she had moved away from in fear of hurt his blood was found mixed with hers in her house and he was seated night disposing with his girlfriend thirty garbage bags lawyer since has said that she wrote a five hundred page manuscript years ago and they they're calling it gone girl the chief frame she wants to frame her husband for her fake murder now what they've changed it to revenge suicide and they've said she was mentally ill and as you know used car went and this what do you think about this kind of stuff right about that because it's really shocking I mean you know the price Hogan right with the four o'clock five John two sets of twins and I have twins so yeah I have a daughter myself I I mean revenge suicide you're gonna leave your children otherwise you know to a woman who's been in their lives who has never shown any sign anything it's ridiculous but you know what I mean all of these things speak to a sort of cultural almost cultural appropriation women in this country you know even when we are credible we are to be believed to be discounted we are to be dismissed in whatever way we can and I think you know one of the reasons I think the plastic mount homicide rate has risen to twenty seventeen is a retaliatory violence against women in particular women's anger at and also I would conclude men men with young men who are allies of the women's rights and women's equality I think we are all angry about about this I think we're all angry in this moment

"Valentine? Let us good as you head says, I am up again. Something Tova my head a riba riba companies trying to push on them, but we're getting nowhere passing the what's the reason? If you bigger you can have. Be of help. I assure you we won't have about price. Find the William Cain president Canaan bombers tunnel structure. I wonder where I could find diving with the new. Seriously? Brooks must be in the West End tunnel one, they're having trouble with breakthroughs cave-in could the globe departments dog. Joel. This seems like a job engineer not for me. There's still no harm in talking to the night. Manno indices, not gonna have about price long as you want system being. Let's get going. Time you don't know how much it means to a foam hand of like me. One up Bill his own tunnel. I think I can imagine. Mr. Kane is like a kid with chemists. They suddenly discovered the atomic bomb, I realize this tunnel projects are pretty big thing. And you've had more than your share of hard luck way more than my share. What did you mean in your letter that you hate to think what the reason for these accidents might be well? Suppose I gotta tell you on look Cain of comes at hard, maybe want this Bank. So we can forget the whole thing. No, no. It's just that. It's tough putting it into words. Yeah. Yeah. Men partner. Jim Balas we'd broke tunnel all over the world dotted as Mukesh shoveling button, sly got to be minus together using dynamite drills. When you didn't even know what was going to happen next under the river. You think you'd get the nose guy at the going all that with him? Well, let's be blunt put it this way Cain. You suspect your partner is holding up the works resented, but it got to be sure what makes you suspect him at all of that the company we up to get this job made Jim big off the come with them. But if he's a party here, what's the percentage of delight gyms? Always resented that I'm Bevis suited to run the front office up here while yes to work with him in so good bunch up his job. We lost to the. Cameron construction company. They take him in. There's a big shot. Must've talked this Ota witnessed about moose new said that determined to Cameron down? But how can it be sure? Now all these accident with Bowers always on the spot of make them happen. That's what he wanted, frankly. Valentine don't even know how you can help me sand. Hogs clannish crowd KENDALL wandering around down on snooping around wants to give it some thought. How'd you like to buy a Frenchman? Okay. Brooke, she owned by well, for instance, if you were reporter and I refer we could be doing story for national magazine that would get down into the tunnel snoop. That might be an idea that then you could around. Tell Santa's expect one. I'll wait a minute. Hey, look Brooks. That's a good Princeton. All right. But this business of we met, we, why do you think I came up with the idea? Okay. Okay. You arrange Kane I think we're going to take a crack at it. Just how down to this elevated go under. Under thirty eight minutes. That's not that is Joe. Oh, no. That part of it's all right. I'm thinking what happens waiting buddy you so smug about you? Are you know that I don't know? You want to tell the lady, what happens next missing well getting into the tunnel that you've got to worry about they'll be about forty pounds of pressure, swearing, join you down there. That's why we get to the bottom, you still got a half hour. Amanda. Matlock, what that kind of feel that room as we keep, you pray into that, while you just the bed for you? When you get into tunnel hit. My got it to put it more concisely my sweet, unless they're very, very careful of pressure of the river had come down flat out, like a jelly lovely thought. Hey Kelly there we got visitors reporting young lady. Take picture visitor. Joel came to Kane. Knows about it. In that cage better hitting the log with them better woman, the boys. But there sure on Charlie ladies day. Right here. Okay. In. Bank vault. The important thing is to Sheila there tonight. She wouldn't mean when I. Four. Cheer from the tunnel coming in fair open, eighty when the pressure in here, the shame news out there that big door opens by shell. Then you're ready to go onto the river, won't you sit down here usually about a half hour. Oh. Gift about a minute more now, you all right? I'm just swell. By ears even worse. Coming out here in much of a hurry. When you can get the shin abandoned nothing like having things look for what to put these little metal cage around your neck. What are these Charlie chained hawks? We're in case your phone haggard around the cops, not a trillion with the drunk, regio vague here to this decompression chamber. They don't waste much time. You'll probably live goody. Are you sound like an Santo yourself? Charlie it can't stay away from tunnels. Mister Barone Dane. I'm Jack Benny. I'm still Hertie eight. Ashim when I help build the Holland tunnel east. You want to go. There goes their door. To go into the. Come on scene. All nice wanted this much. To help keep cool things. Bank. No. Thinking. Clear. In. Where'd you come from? You'll Bowers what are you doing down here? Bring him trouble. Chocolate looked Mr. canes that it was. All right. For me to do a story about the tunnel young lady hit take pictures, starring at all. To think about that. I'd like to go on him. Break. Katherine came down with a lot of us. Come down on every job young came down rocking. We've gotta get him out at the Tigers. But you get back thought to break wouldn't be there bars. If you've set die gang up kennel up when the blast. Don't tell me how to build a tunnel on anything. I want. Okay. Pick yourself you're going to say. Okay. Reporter. Way lost another day. What about the man you just lost? They will blame on me. Woman digs. Hey, knows that. Phone upstairs for an ambulance. Wow. I see. The two point is working late tonight. That's good. Balentine get a good story out of that accident today. I look, let's stop kidding each other. You know I'm not a reporter wasn't born yesterday. I know checking on me, I shouldn't I you know, we can go on much longer this way. And you're in charge little bribe from the Cameron company. Correct. Like, I don't know you bring it up boys break it up. Let me talk what I have to say. It'll be short to the point. Yeah. I did some checking today. The only one who might profit by these accidents, you'll could king. What are you talking about? Let's hear some more. I had a talk with a city engineer said he doesn't know how you can do this job on the bid, you put I made up was big plus nine we would have made it things went, right? So the boy shirt comes up with another bad deal and Kane you had the foresight to take out insurance to protect you. In case you went broke building this tunnel. Real precaution. Yeah. But it was a personal insurance policy taken out in your name, not for the firm that Jim, I know how you've been spending money. So I paid the premiums. But I was only thinking what I'm thinking Cain insurance company pay off. None of these accidents could be traced to you and you'd be saved from ruin his from ruin his bit. Yeah. But that's my look, if there's one thing, I don't like to be kitted along. Now. Do you still want me to find out what's behind those accidents? I have nothing to Valentine. That's why hired you. I know I'm playing right ahead. Valentine'll K. Okay. If you show. That's what you want. I heard what I said evidence. Remember, if I dredge up something from the bottom of that river that you don't like your, the guys who wanted it. Now back to tonight's adventure. George Valentine and a million dollars tunnel. Burrowing deep under a riverbed series of unexplained accidents. Stop the job. Why at sleep answer? George has to supply all these learned is the rather startling fact that both partners in the contracting firm, Canaan Bowers of their own good reasons for wanting to see the tunnel left unfinished right now. Georgia Claire, just ended Hogan's hog pen hang out of the sand. Hogs where Bill Cain is talking to his workers. And I know we've been falling behind down in the tunnel, like you know, Jim Bowers and hugs. So we can like this job. And I've even hired Ballantyne to make sure about them accidents enough, you make up a long time and I pay time and a half every nine from then on. Better person know about that insurance policy. From just make a search me too. That's wanted you to know that he didn't know about the folic from that other construction company. You hear him down? Don't get me wrong. Mr. gain like make an extra money when a job like this all, put it never straighten out. All right. Kali just getting the gator. Gone. Wouldn't be surprised that if we pushed that Turner, another fifty yard, we run your new alleged grambling hard pain voters will never get paid used more trouble. Did I? Told me wanna hear drinks, Ron Cain gone. Come on. Hunch. We've got to be someplace before five o'clock. We should hurry this Valentine euro of habit. London ways at time, she'll be throwing. One survey riverbed Section V oleander through Perry. But that's just where the time is being built, George. Very interesting. And this would be around peer nineteen talking that quite sure, but we're going to ride that hunt. She little harder. Hey, watch on this. If for the last fifteen years. Tell me something those white bubbles coming up there on the river where they're working on a new general gen Xers five Noli much yet. We read the having a lot of trouble. Keep working day and night, two can always kale by the position that proactive just where they're working, you don't say she ever not to go to keep redhead kind of can tell by the bubbles that better the water. Wonder what the trawler has to do with the mango over the shoot every night, suppose to do. Oh. Kind of a traffic clears that the fish taking go ahead. Traffic. Hey, great health. Thanks. George angel. What do you say motorboat, and we take a nice romantic ride on the river? Okay. George, I agreed trawler on top of the Ripa has nothing to do with the building of tunnel under the river Brooks. Why is it here every night? Always just ahead of the heel of the tunnel. More than a coincidence. Verdi is up ahead. What are we going to say to the board? May we drop coupable fashion plan childhood, if you don't mind young lady, I'll do the talking. I have there. "Land of Canaan in disobedience. So, you know, right now things are going to be tough when he gets to the land of Canaan, and he's gonna look around and say why God treating me this way. Because he's gone disobedience Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Mariah shekel. At that time, the Canaanites were in the land. Now, the Lord appears to Abram and he says to your offspring, I will give this land. So he built an Alder there to the Lord who had appeared to him. In other words, now he has taken a concrete step of obedience, and then returned for that concrete step of Abedian, God appears to him. I wanna tell you tonight as you take concrete steps of obedience to God, he will begin to meet you. Your bible study will suddenly come alive, your prayer life will suddenly be filled with the power of the spirit. You'll see a difference. All the way around even though you're not walking in total obedience to God Abram was still walking and disobedience he still had not left his family behind. But God was honoring him because he was edited in the right direction. Now. That's mercy. That's mercy. Now, I wanna say something that may sound strange to you religious, always become legal. If I miss one point I might as well give up everything because I'm a failure. That's a spirit of religion. What did king Saul do? He's disobeyed. God. He's not listened to the profit. And now he says anybody who touches any food in. This battle is going to be put to death. Even if it's my son. He's a great religionists. Now, please hear me as we walk after Jesus Christ. There is not a set checklist of do's and don'ts. And if we miss one of them, we might as well, go, eat worms and give up. That's pride. That's pride. David understood the deal. The twenty third psalm. He said I'm going to put my feet under the table of the Lord. So when we make a mistake, we fall off the wagon. We get out of line where do we go? Do we go to the closet and beat on our selves? So that God will accept us back after we've beaten ourselves up long enough. No, we simply go back to the table of the Lord, and he promises in that place to prepare a feast for us in the presence of our enemies. So please as we share this tonight beclau- here, there is a dramatic difference between the spirit of religion, which goes point by point in legalistic fashion, and the spirit of Christ that calls for Abedian to the Lord Jesus one is of the spirit and the other is of the law. And we are of the spirit. We are not of the law. Now part of the struggle today. In the modern church is soon as you begin to speak about holiness red flags go up, and they say legalism legalism legalism. That's because there's a misunderstanding about the role of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. And a misunderstanding of the grace of Jesus. He calls us to walk by faith under his thority. But when we make a mistake, and we get it wrong. He doesn't kill us. He may take us to the woodshed. We may wish we were dead. But he brings us through. And watch the Lord has spoken to him. And from there in verse eight he went onto the hill, east of Bethel. He pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and a on the east and there he built an altar to the Lord and he called on the name of the Lord. And there was no answer. Oh. This has been so painful for me the silence of God just cuts my heart apart. Here. He is he's walking. Now in partial disobedience, he still has a lot with him. He's prayed and God has come and spoken with him. Now, he moves on to the next place. And he says I really want the presence of God with me. And so I'm going to build another alter and maybe God will speak to me again. And God doesn't speak. Now watch y verse ten now there was a fem in the land. God has not spoken because he wants to see what is an Abrams heart. He wants to know what will Abram do when he faces the famine because of his disobedience and being unwilling to leave his family. Let's define family, very carefully for the sake of this passage of scripture that were teaching family are all of those things that comfort us that. Give sustenance that have nourished us out of the world. Now that may be actual family members or it may be. Restaurants that our favorite places.

"I don't think that's I don't support that idea. I believe it exists for reason. I think the governor Kaine governors Canaan Florio spoke eloquently about this over the past several as economic development thirty has a very important role to play let there be no doubt about sports and exposition authority, very important. The question is how do you? How do you? How do you run those organizations? We made a decision last week to change the leadership at the school development authority, and we've turned a page there. And and we're going we're going forward with interim leadership and ultimately will have new permanently ship. You rightfully mentioned Nancy that I asked the government of the governor appointees on. The board to submit their resignation. I want to applaud again publicly Larry downs. Good friend guy who does a lot for the state. He and I both saw that the same way that it was at moment to turn the page. And I I applaud him for that enlightened decision. And I agree with him the other folks who chose not to resign. They did what they gonna do. We're going to do it. We have to do and all options are on the table. So we'll leave it at that. Okay. We're gonna try to squeeze in a quick call before we go to break. We have sorry. It's Dan from Bridgewater. Dan. Hello. You're on the line. Hey, dan. How are you? Hi, I kiss Rutgers. And I'm a physician, and I was really disappointed with the is what the research university and the lack of emphasis on getting the kids well trained, and I really feel that. This is an under educated state until I came, and so let's say the written valley community college, for example, where I was just amazed at the quality of the faculty pedagogic, you know, the teaching effort and how well it's done. But I see that we're running out of kids in this state. And I wonder if there's any way you can promote the community colleges to educate even professional people because that's such able people, for example physicians if they graduate before two thousand five every need like by owns you will but the faculty and these community colleges sometimes extremely good. They're all PHD's. So and the very pedagogic and skill and I wonder what you could think of doing that would promote these community colleges graduating them from junior colleges to real community colleges where almost the entire population can rise. Technical skills that men jobs much easier. Yup. So Dan, I love Bridgewater, by the way, one of my favorite communities. A couple of things one is I think I'm I'm going to agree with you on our research universities. We have among the most important research universities in one respect in the country in some respects in the world. I'm actually at Princeton tomorrow unveiling a partnership between Princeton and Google as it relates to artificial intelligence Princeton. I think has been rated number one research university in the world at least the country for eight years in a row. Rutgers has got a huge budget. But Dan, I agree with you wholeheartedly and community colleges..

"Over the weekend. Our love for everyone to check it out. And we'll be pushing another update this week apart from usability stuff. There's also stability like, for instance. Our servers went down for a little bit last week just a few minutes, and it happened to be when an investor of ours was trying to download it. You can't make this shit up. Another investor last week was using an old iphone and the app looked funny. On it, some kind of scaling issue. The list goes on and on. We're also fighting fraud during a new schools and nonstop meeting with investors. It's really high pressure fund. That's what a startup is. Okay. That's it for me. I hope you enjoy the conversation with Dan. Okay. Dan. Supporting thanks for coming on the podcast this morning. Thanks for having me. I guess it's it's after noon for you a Thursday afternoon urine. Connecticut. I am. Indeed. Okay. Well, you are a partner at Canaan ventures Canaan partners long-standing well-established VC fund, but I'm going to venture to say that you didn't predict that you were going to be a venture capitalist when you were young. That is certainly true. I actually did not really know what I was going to do and coming out of college certainly didn't was not thinking about venture capital at that point in time. Right. So you you you went to Princeton for undergrad. And what were you thinking you were going to do when you graduated? What was your first job? Tell us about that. Sure. So I had lined up a job in commodities firm in Philadelphia. And before I actually decided to do that. I had a wonderful opportunity to go over to Thailand and work for something called the International Rescue Committee for the summer after my senior year, and that job was essentially being in charge of educational programs for Cambodian refugees that had fled. Cambodia when the chimera Rouge communist regime was in power. And when they were kicked out, the there was a whole refugee crisis that really centered around the Thai border, so by by virtue of having an international affairs degree in by virtue of knowing some folks that that set up this program, I found myself with for what I thought was just a summer of all on tier program of going over and initially teaching English and got to know the head of the program there for the International Rescue Committee, which is an amazing wonderful organization. Started actually back in thirty three helping Albert Einstein in other German refugees fleeing the holocaust or the eventual holocaust. So they, you know, cater to sort of dealing with refugees in in the refugee crises around the world at that point in time, which is back in one thousand nine hundred eighty the big one was the Cambodian refugee. Crisis in. So I was over there initially teaching English and got to know the head of the IRS see over in Thailand. And he offered me a fulltime job. So I wrote back to the commodities firm said thanks, but no thanks and ended up working there for just under two years before coming back to the states. Got it. Why did you decide to stay there?.
