Inside the grueling VP search that led Joe Biden to Kamala Harris
"Political news this week. Former Vice President Joe Biden has picked Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate, and even though she was seen as a front runner from the beginning, the process to get there was unusual and laborious. There was 11 finalists involved a panel of lawyers and tough questions all around for more on how we got the biting Harris ticket will speak to Michael Shearer, national political reporter at The Washington Post, the first Black Association of Major Party ticket and the first California since Ronald Reagan. I think we've got to give Nixon and Reagan there. Do you know for a few decades back anyway? This process began was Joe Biden saying, I want to pick a woman for this role, and they drew up a list of more than 20 names. And cast a pretty broad net for that person. But I had a panel of four people helping them. Those people interviewed each of more than 20 people with basically a questionnaire. The same set of questions for each person questions like what would your agenda be? If your vice president what do you think Donald Trump's nickname for You would be presented those findings to Joe Biden and his wife, Jill. In a meeting and the vice president all adopt in one on one conversations with members of this group, and then they narrowed that list down to 11. Basically, finalists who were then subjected to a much more invasive and deeper betting for each of those 11 finalists. There was individually interview that was conducted In the last nine days by the vice president is a team of between 12 and 15 attorneys were assigned to each person to that, basically, everything they've done in their life. You know all public records on public speeches, all controversies. Financial matters. You name it. Everything you've done. You are asked to disclose to the vetting committee to discuss to explain your spouse's records also were subjected to scrutiny and in that process ended earlier this week when The former vice president. When with Campbell Harris and up to the end, I think it was some suspense is ironic, and that this was enormously laborious process and he ended up with a lot of people thought we were gonna end up from the beginning and it didn't change my common. Harris is probably the front runner of the front runner for the job when this all started and ended up with a job. Exactly, And there's all these little bumps along the way, you know, like with the debate where she nailed him on some race issues, and you know, he really did have to hold the heart not holding any lingering grudges, you know, and and in the end, he could make the right choice for him, But I want to go back to something you said, beginning where all the candidates were given the questions and their initial interviews. What do you think Donald Trump's nickname for you would be, and that's Actually such an important question right there, because that's what the president does. He markets you in a specific way in a negative way so that people won't trust you are what not so having that kind of foresight into how the president would attack you is so important. And for Kamala Harris She's kind of tough person a pigeonhole. She's a black woman. She's also Indian American woman. She's the daughter of immigrants. There's a lot of stuff in her background. That's gonna be tough. Just a pinpoint on her, So I'm sure that also fared into why she was chosen. I think I think there's a couple parts of that question. One is kind work out how the president attack each of these people, but the other part of how they will respond to the attack. I think one of the things with the interviewers were trying to get from that question is How prepared and how self aware. Are these candidates for what they're about to go through? If they are picked for this job, people involved in processing comma Harris would just come through the primary. She's one of the only Candidates here would actually gone through the whole primary process, which is itself a very grueling job interview, performed very well in the initial meeting was very confidence knew exactly what she was about to get understanding of policy and was compelling for the people who are talking with her, so I think it was something she passes by there from the start of this process, has said he didn't hold grudges. From the primary process, And as you said comma, Harris went after him effectively and very frontally in one of those early debates, and when she questioned his relationship with segregation of Sanders and says she's been personally offended by the fact that he had opposed Forced busing programs by the federal government. But their relationship actually did not begin there. She had been very close with Beau Biden, who remains Joe Biden sort of emotional load star here, his son who died of cancer two years ago, They had both been attorneys general together at the same time had been friends had worked together on big cases, and they knew each other there. There are also times sort of behind the scenes on the campaign trail. Including one moment in October, where Biden and Heresies entourage found themselves in the same private airport hangar area, and Joe Biden her way with a certain walk away and spend some time with each other. So I think they felt They had a pretty good relationship with each other. That had transcended that, and we see that in this choice goes bad feeling cleaner and the issue of race because he initially said a long time. Well, yeah, I'm gonna pick a woman. I commit to that. But then, increasingly, as the process started going, it seemed like the push for him to put a woman of color started increasing and there was a lot of different women of different ethnicities on his short list. But this kind of also was the thing that was looming throughout the process. Yeah, I think it's built throughout the process. Time This process began the George Floyd and that has not happened in Minneapolis. There weren't these protests around the country and over the course of the summer, more and more groups came out more and more public letters written Jo by themselves, was taking private meetings with black officials consulting allies of his were telling him. It's really important for you to pick a black woman here. And you know, While the campaign maintains that that was not the reason Harris was picked its structure, the environment in which the decision was made, and I think, arguably if he had gone with a white woman like Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator or Michigan, gonna graduate. There would have been a backlash in the base of the party that I wouldn't have to deal with Michael Scherer, national political reporter at The Washington Post. Thank you very much for joining

"Only did he claimed that she was the nastiest senator loaded word describing a black woman. Michael and I just did a little research here because we're not hacks like Jonathan Allomere, the fake reporter for The Associated Press at the White House, nearly steering, snarling political activist with a press badge. We just called the president called Ted Cruz. Nasty guy. They called the Wuhan Red Death, nasty disease. They called the numbers of the Wuhan red death. Nasty numbers he called Democrat governor of Washington Jae in's lead, nasty calls all these bits a word that he likes, apparently nasty cause a lot of things now. But if you should call Campbell Harris nasty. Apparently, they didn't have anything to seize on yesterday, because when the media seizing on the word nasty and said, pretending that it's now a racist word because everything is race is coming from the party of Lynch mobs. And on and it's a sexist word. Because you know Campbell Harris is is, you know a girl person so you can't use the word nasty and it created. Remember that created the whole like the pink MIT hat thing on the big mobs on the mall, chanting obscenities and and dropping F bombs and talking about blowing up the White House. And rape and incest. You know the usual Democrat rally stuff. It's like they thought it was a party in Hollywood. Sound like a pretty amazing stuff. Can I just Can I just say this? It turns out that camel hair is his father, who was again a professor of Meritus and a PhD at Stanford University in this terrible raise his country where nobody gets a break. He's from Jamaica. He got his bachelor's degree in economics in London at a fancy London then came to Berkeley, where he kept going to school till he got his PhD and now he's a professor in America. Of economics at Stanford University. Not so bad mom came to the United States from India. She also has a PhD and is a longtime cancer researcher. Breast cancer researcher. And all of this, And once again, I mean, I got to say that this is the story of their lives, and then they have camel. Harris has a daughter, and she's not an only child. I have at least one sister, I think and and and they grew up in Berkeley and complained about having about being bust This Joe Biden thing. She was in the second class to be bussed from a middle class neighborhood in Berkeley, California the rough and tumble streets of Berkeley, California in the 19 sixties. Which, as I understand, it was fairly enlightened and ahead of their time. If you ask them, let them tell the story. But again, you can flip flop on this stuff. Day in and day out when you're a Democrat, when you're left to have a totally different version of events today. Her father abandoned her and left when she was five years old when she was five, her father from Jamaica with the PhD who's the professor emeritus, and it reminded me of Barack Obama, who loved to complain about this terrible, awful, unfair country where nobody gets Ah break and his father was from Kenya. And African man from Kenya in Africa and he came to the United States and he went to Harvard, and he got his degree in, uh, at Harvard. And and he married this white woman Barack Obama's mother, who is from Kansas, If I remember correctly, and then Barack Obama's father abandoned him when he was three years old when he was three years old. So you got. I mean, I don't and Barack Obama and camel Harris. They grow up thinking that their victims of something or someone and it turns out that they're victims of the country of this terrible racist on fair country. Let me just say that their personal life stories disproved their entire anti American narrative, and I talked about this with Barack Obama at the time, but were we have another example standing large and in charge in front of us right now, and that's Camel Harris. So her Jamaican father goes to London. For his BA comes the United States. PhD professor emeritus economics, the drudgery of it all. The mother comes from India. She's got a PhD she got. I think the a in India and came here and got her master's and PhD, and she worked as a cancer cancer researcher for years and years. Breast cancer in particular. And I'm looking and then Camilla Harris comes along and she and she went to Howard University. I'm actually pleasantly surprised to be able to report instead of Harvard University. Howard University is the historically black college and it is an important historically black college in Washington, D. C. And then she got her law degree. You see what you see Hastings? I think it was and not one of the premier schools in the University of California change her law degree, becomes a prosecutor and and then the district attorney in San Francisco, And then the first woman are a woman of color Attorney General of the State of California is something they can keep score like this. And and then she becomes a US senator without ever having done anything other than you know, deny people evidence when they're on death row and put people in jail for smoking pot when she's smoking pot. Other than that she comes to us Senator like Barack Obama really accomplished nothing in the Statehouse Illinois before becoming United States senator And then they agreed on MSNBC this morning that when she came here three years ago, sent time President Trump came here that she was already running for president. Just like Barack Obama and they spend their lives complaining about what a terrible, racist, unfair country This is. And I look at these people and I'm just sitting here with popcorn in my lap in my mouth hanging up. 00 wait a minute. Your stories disprove everything that used mirror this country with your personal life. The.

"Join me. I could use the help we what have the voters been saying to you about how the candidates are positioning themselves against donald trump in particular well. We talked to a bunch of voters yesterday as they cast their corn kernels at the w._h._a._t. Out here <hes> does a great corn kernel account and president trump was running about these with the democrats nationally <hes> the democrat sort of combined <hes> joe biden was leading the the corn kernel count which is of course the least scientific poll in the world but still fun fun to watch <hes> and he was the second third place <hes> were elizabeth warren n. and p bridge the mayor of south bend indiana <hes> we heard from a number of voters who really liked <hes> senator campbell harris from california and people who were sort of weighing their decision decision based on a combination of which candidate best fits with their own personal policy opinions and the candidate that can beat president trump and that's that has been joe biden's pitch all along that he is the candidate who's able to beat president trump. He talked more about president trump than the other two candidates who have spoken on the soapbox already and that's really sort of the front runner position that he's trying to solidify he wants this campaign to be <hes> between him and president trump rather than between him mm-hmm and the other twenty three democrats who are running and before we let you go tell us a little bit more about the iowa state fair organizers say it attracts about a million visitors. There's from all over not just people who might caucus so. What's it like there. Yeah we met people from wichita people from florida <hes> people from all across the country the last couple the days <hes> who have come out for the fair there. "Well, we wanted action and we've got a lot we wanted to see how these candidates could really come across the breakthrough mama to introduce themselves to the American people. And we got a chance to see some incredible candidates, you have one on this. Well, you had both on this more. I have two thousand one. We're going to flip a coin. You made me go to church. All right. You're going anywhere. But love Julia on Castro. He had a great breakout moment. He he was able to not just tick late his vision on immigration. But he was he was on the stage with some heavyweights. And I thought he did a fabulous job. And of course, everyone is still talking about Senator Campbell Harris, the blow that felt was felt not just in the Biden camp. But the blow that was felt across America as she prosecuted hook is the right way because you have to be prosecuted hot case, but, but the Biden campaign, I, I was somewhat shocked that they didn't anticipate, this was going to go. That's the big surprises has been months. Yeah. I mean I said this earlier on an earlier program, his major issue, which he hasn't figured out his own up to your mistakes, and say you're sorry. And he had to know that this was an issue was gonna follow him. He hasn't done on the crime Bill. He didn't do it on the sexual harassment allegations. He didn't do it today. And it was a real good moment. Everybody says he's a nice guy, and I believe that, but it was a great moment for him to say. You know what I was wrong, and I'm sorry that affected. You and I will do better in the future, and he refuses to do it, and the aftermath was word. I think a lot of people would find some problems some land mines in the answer. You give there's one thing. Rich Lowry, show empathy is another thing to walk away from positions. He's starts down up half of polish ising to for everything that's the path of destruction for him. Now, clearly, he should have been should have been better prepared. But he also said, busing was largely failure and ended up being unpopular with everyone. And this debate is the policy nullity now knows because it usually argh widespread forced busing again. Well, these are. First off, he doesn't believe it. Okay. He doesn't believe he was wrong. So he's not going to apologize for something that he doesn't believe he was wrong on. And that's that's. The question. Okay. So Secondly now he to me look like Ronald Reagan, the nineteen Eighty-four in his first debate. George W Bush foreign his first debate and Brock Obama in two thousand twelve and his first debate people who think they understand this. They've been around for a long time. They don't need to prepare. They don't need to be ready. Well all three of those folks alerts. Now, here's the key for Biden Reagan Bush, and Obama all came back in the second debate, they were ready. They went back. They went after the people that needed to go after on the other side of the stage. So to me, the Biden thing can be a blip. If he comes back in the second debate performance. It might have changed the conversation about electability because up until we kept thinking, oh, his Biden's botanist spot. And you know, he's a moderate..

"And what can back here to the final segment of the best stocks now radio hour. Well, I'm talking a little bit about today about the Bernie effect that he's having on the market. And it would seem that even if it's not Bernie Sanders. It would be someone else would like minded because. Campbell Harris has pretty much gone and said she's good with the green new deal and Medicare for all. Okay. So she's right there in the running. Of course, we know where Elizabeth Warren staff know, whether you like them or not it doesn't matter stock market. The stock market is a political the app that ranks things on a relative basis is a political. And just like there's money making opportunities in a conservative presidency. Like Trump look at how the defense stocks have done. Well, look at how the energy stocks have done. Well, the technology stocks have done. Well, the drug stocks have done. Well, okay. Well, if the pendulum swings back the other way, two years from now six years from now, you know, how that pendulum swings back and forth. But those swing seemed to get further and further either to the right or to the left each time. Doesn't matter where you sit on the pendulum swing here. Good to get hit by the benja lem. If you sit in the middle with your investments just going to show you the Bernie effect. Okay. You've heard me talk a lot about inverse funds. I just went through my list real quickly during the break of inverse funds. You ought to take a look and don't look at z bio today z be oh that is three times the inverse of the biotech sector. Now. Think about that. Okay. It's up seven point eight percent today. It's breaking out with a vengeance. When you think how much it costs, and I've been picking on this sector for a long time. I continue to say the sun is still shining on the market. I continue to say that. Okay. We might have six more years of a conservative government. We may have two more years of conservative government. All right. And I have played that theme and the sun continues to shine on the market, and it could shine for another several years to be honest based on the earnings. Expectations that are out there right now. But the market right now, I think is saying what if? And it's a pretty big what if when I see these healthcare stocks. I learn more about what's going on in the world by looking at all these individual stocks on a daily basis. And when you say what in the world is wrong with United Healthcare..

"One more thing about candle Harris and Willie Brown. So this occurred. This was in the newspaper over the weekend. Which which I'm sure is not even well read with people over sixty five let alone younger people who in love with capital hera's Willie Brown. I've been peppered with calls from national media about my relationship with Campbell Harris, particularly since it became obvious that she was going to run for president most of them have not returned. Yes, we dated. Now. See just that opening statement of Willie. This is his ego. So huge I've been peppered with calls in the national media about my relationship with cameras. Most of them have not returned. In other words, most of those people out there those little people out there. They're just us peons too small for me. Yes, we dated it was more than twenty years ago. Yes, I may have influenced her career by pointing her to to state commissions when I was assembly speaker. Isn't it? Interesting. It's little lower for play. You you do this for me. I'll do this for you you scratch my back. I'll scratch your back you have to you. So that's that's the deal. And I certainly listen to this. It's all out there. I influenced your career basically saying I made her career by pointing her to to state commissions when I was assembly speaker. And I certainly helped her first race for district attorney in San Francisco. And then he goes on to say have also helped the careers of house speaker Nancy Pelosi Gavin Newsom Dianne Feinstein, and a host of other politicians that he signs he said, the differences that Harris is the only one who after I helped her set word that I would be indicted. If I so much J walked when she was DA. I don't even know what that's referring to. But that's politics for he says, hey way to go willy that's politics for ya. So there we go. No mention of how he was old enough to be your father at the time. But you know, and he wasn't dating. Diane Feinstein or Gavin news. Good point. Our remember that next time we come around to the story dating while he was married. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, he's had. He's had quite the array of women over the years. Everyone in San Francisco knows that. Yeah. And he's still married to the same woman that he's been married to cheat. Non for decades. Is that true? Is there still married? I believe so and then how many children does he actually have not besides with the lovechild not not with Kamla Harris has four. Okay, total. Okay. Total. All right. Well, there are other stories I could tell but I won't because. What has been shared with me was completely private? So this move on. And it doesn't have to do with camel Harris here, we have the Florida Taco Bell evacuated after man discovers World War Two handgrenade..

"Conversation this morning. Concerning. The reality that Campbell Harris is running for president. Of the US. She has made her decision. And she has to deal with this hurdle. The hurdle of her past as a prosecutor. She describes herself as a progressive prosecutor. And she says it's a false choice to decide between supporting the police and advocating for greater scrutiny of law enforcement. The argument which is aimed at liberal critics of a record who argue that. She was sometimes too quick to side with the police in to flow to adopt sentenced ten sentencing reforms. Well, again, that is something that she's going to have to deal with and we're going to have to get the facts. She was a prosecutor in prosecutors and police are in bed together. Wherever you go. Hopefully at one point or another within the. Within the life of this country. Prosecutors will begin to work on behalf of the people instead of being on working for the police. But right now, that's where we are that needs to change. She didn't change it. But she didn't create it either. Four four eight nine two two seven zero three. There's a lot there's a lot. But hopefully, she'll be able to make it through it. Because I think that she could be she might just be. She could be the one. Jerry. When world Wednesday come on in Hollywood, your brother. Learning. Good morning. Com on a good morning. So. I I I'm very excited about. But of course, I have probably the same reservations as a lot of people about the fine line that she's she has to walk here. And how an issue going gonna do that? Because. At this point black America, Obama watch that but I perfectly as I was happy with what he did. And was able to do because I know that we still live under the rule at this point and Obama had to balance that, but Pamela is going to be able to walk that same time lie 'cause she can have to push it a little further and. And as you said at the same time, she got she can't win the presidency without at least forty percent of white mainstream. Is that correct? Pretty much what it takes. All of that all of black America. You still gotta get forty percent of the rest of America. So she's got she's she can't, you know, like, you said earlier about speaking to black issue, the black agenda. Mhm? These politicians not gonna be able to get away with things broads jokes anymore. Right. I talked with whatever it is. They're going to have to speak directly to that. Even if it takes the dog whistles that Republicans have used all these years. I know that the problem is that they can't speak to black issues without running away some of their other mainstream don't say, wait a minute. But they need to figure out some dog whistles just like that's the life. Okay. Why politicians have been doing all this time? Reagan was speaking to those trumpsters that following him. Now radio was thinking of their forty years ago when she announced his presidency on the site of the civil rights work in Philadelphia, Mississippi where the where sworn in Cheney were in were murdered. That's where he announced his campaign was file continues to be even though even though he did inhale. Let's deal. He pulled out although those same people that are following Trump. Now, he's the one that I told them out from the heel true true. So so Canada on a little nervous because she she needs a strategy to be able to speak to black issue do that broad strokes stuff that that they've always been doing. But how how did she do that without running away the mainstream? As I said alluded to earlier. There is a certain segment of this country. Hopefully as the forty percent. That you spoke of who realized that the season of sweeping black issues under the rug is coming to an end it has to come to. They are hopefully, they hopefully they're recognizing their own hypocrisy, and they see how their silence, I think feeds in to Trumpian notions of reality. It is my sincere hope that. That that forty percent that you speak of come to a reality that that that they gotta stop being hypocrites. And they got to stand up if they're going to stand up for humanity. Got to stand for black humanity as well blackness as I've said since I began the show has to become normative. And but for blackness to become normative for whites at half, the first to be become normative for black people. We've got to stop and get a grip on our double consciousness become aware of it and begin to stand with pride in our blackness. So people can look at us see that and see that we ain't dancing and bending over for everything that they say and do once we stopped doing that. And you know, again, I'm not placing the whole onus on black people. But I'm saying we got a part to play in in correcting that which is incorrect about this country. Right. Our country to. Right. We have shed blood, sweat and tears for longer than most of them have this country. No doubt. No doubt. I thank you for your call. Thank you. Yes, ma'am. Look forward to seeing you as well. Four zero four eight nine two two seven zero three keeping moving on the movement. I see you big uncle Soltan. Komo on good morning. Dr slaughtering family the morning, dear brother, like to I agree with much of what is considered value typically, but I'd like to frame it like this. I think it's too early for us Stephen considering -dorsements of anyone we need to use this time to begin to create a salad agenda based on principles that that reflects our interests and the interests of the community at large, and these are what they have to endorse if they wanna vote than they have to accept and endorse this agenda such as cesspool that is become. Yeah. The American government, the deep state the hand, it is controlling everything. They have to address that the the military war machine domestic and foreign. They have to address that we have to return those funds to develop an interest structure that supports the family and the communities here in this country, where do you think? I I tend to agree again as I said when I was speaking with top Cudi. I think we need to develop our own talking points. You call them talking points, you call it the agenda. Caller, what you wish we need to to develop that. And I think that perhaps this this show could be a forum. We did it once before we can do it again and try to push this message out nationally. So people can get an understanding of what what black people won't even though black people are not monolithic. We cannot we can't say with all black people won't we can say what some black people from Atlanta say today won't we can put that out there. We need to do the work to do that. And perhaps we need to pull together a forum to develop it put it down, write it down publish it. And let it be known. I.

Breath of fresh air. He also said it is possible for things to change citing Barack Obama becoming the nation's first African American president. There is speculation that Biden will run for president in twenty twenty. And remember, I said some months ago. That the ideal ticket to get a win would be Biden for president camera Harris for vice president with Biden. Promising to only serve one term. And then supporting camera Harris for two terms. Remember, I said, we'll see how it works. And now for a moment of hypocrisy. Forty five and vice President Mike Pence are paying their respects. "King memorial breakfast in Washington DC. You would never hear Donald Trump talking like that. Heaven forbid, Donald Trump during Charlottesville. So there were good people. On both sides and took. Side of the white nationalist. Trump says he's a nationalist. He put the white out, but he says, these nationalist. And of course, everybody is still talking about Campbell Harris Senator from California who made it official today that she's running in two thousand. A lot of people like myself predicted cavalier Harris, Joe Biden would make a good team the go up against whatever Republicans running in two thousand twenty maybe Donald Trump maybe somebody else who knows. But she said this morning announcing that she's running the American people want a fighter. I will fight like heck for them. Workers don't wanna law Luana paycheck. Yes. Indeed. That's what they want on this king day. And she decided that she wanted to make her announcement on this day because of the importance of the day. And the significant of the day. Speaks volumes about a character. And where she's coming from. And we've got to make some movements here. There are people in this country who was working in the White House, by the way. Who would like to roll the clock back and keep on rolling? It back. Well, we're gonna say. Your.

"Attractive, you'll probably the most attractive ice presidential candidate for like a Joe Biden. Absolutely. Oh now, there's the dream ticket there. It is right there. Scary Joe Biden Campbell Harris. Yeah. That I just scared myself with that one. Know, I don't bring these up because I I think that they can do damage. I just bring them up as a brain teas. You know, I think we still can pull it off with Donald Trump dependent upon what he does or doesn't do the next couple of years. Now granted with Donald Trump the next couple of years is not going to be exciting as the first two years because you know, what happened to the house. It's going to be pretty much do nothing because the Senate is not gonna agree to anything. That's coming out of the house. And let's all of a sudden there's a total flip flop, and they start doing things that we want them to do from our side of the political fence. And this deal that was offered to the Democrats on Saturday by the president. Obviously, they're not going to be accepting that and I've got the story coming up about dick Durbin who has this pending legislation that he co authored and supports that he says is protecting the dreamers. And out just because Trump is for a particular way to go about this, which is that what the Democrats wanted initially all of a sudden he's opposed to it. This is just like Nancy Pelosi Schumer, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and everybody else being for southern barrier. Down to the Mexican border and all of sudden everybody to a person opposed to it. Because Trump wants it. I mean, this flip-flopping by the party, the Democratic Party is just notorious it's infamous if Trump wants it, and they one time supported they're certainly not going to go for it. Now. But think who are the individuals. I ask again for the third time that can give. A little bit of a problem who could be a potential threat to the Republicans in twenty twenty. And I'm saying Biden and camera Harris could be to divisionals, and you know, Biden could be with Campbell Harris the dream ticket. So let's do this. Whether you're Republican or democrat, Debra you're on Cam, Jay. Hi, welcome. Hi, I disagree on Camila Harris. I think when she did the whole Cavanaugh little episode. I think she I think people will remember that. But I think Democrats love like what she did. Democrats loved it though. And that's that's who's going to be doing the nominating. Yeah. I she lost a lot of Democrats to okay. I mean, I have a lot of friends that are Democrats. And they were I mean, highly just they were outraged hookah. All right. So who do you think could be a threat? I think they will work. I, you know, I don't like beco- or whatever his name is. I'm not for him. But I think he's going to split the vote, you know, and I I think he's gonna pull away from. I think they will put Biden in there, and you know, maybe Camilla Harris's BP. I don't know. But I think Aurora is gonna run for it. And I think he's gonna I think you're gonna take a lot away from him. I hope and I'm hoping he does the why him. You know what? Because young this party is not. I mean, every time you turn around they are Dickson white elderly male. I mean, they have said it, right? I mean, they have put it out in everybody's face. They don't want an old white male. I'm getting the impression with everybody. I'm getting the impression they don't want any white male. I mean, they've they've stated that. But you're right. You're right about discriminating against age is a lot of ageism going on there as well to Debra. I'm going to break, but thank you for tossing that out there Begnaud rock as I indicated is getting a lot of gas now from the mainstream media and a lot of his own team that that just literally happened overnight. So all of a sudden, he ain't the dude more of your calls coming up and thank you for finally jumping on thinking about this who could be the democratic threat to the Republicans in two thousand twenty I'm saying Biden and camera Harris Republicans are saying candle Harris has got to be taken very seriously her age her ethnic background her gender. This is Cam, Jay. I'll be right back. Hi, this is Dominic McKenzie. And the J newsroom these stories coming up at the top of the hour. Senator Kamala Harris puts herself forward as a candidate for president in two thousand twenty and a Clovis woman now charged with the murder of a family member on that message and data rates may apply. Earning your degree from one of the top business schools in the country might sound impossible to fit into your workload..

"You know, as a Republican or has a democrat who are the biggest threats out of the announced Democratic Party. You believe to be somebody who can give Donald Trump a run for their money. Even if you think Trump is gonna win who is somebody out there that could throw a big scare into the Trump campaign. And again, I think Joe Biden and Campbell Harris are the individuals that really could shake it up camera Harris for the reasons given by the Republicans by that pollster by that that individual who's done a strategist for the Republican party because of her age because of her, you know, racial and ethnic background because she's a the the individual who's a a child of immigrants. She's got it. All. And this is something that really turns out individuals from the left the only thing that will harbor his all the criticism. She's going to be getting from the far left who don't really want to have anything to do with her. But I don't think there's enough of them to sway the rest of the Democrats to say, oh, no, she's bad juju. We gotta get rid of her. But Elizabeth Warren, no, no not threat by any stretch of the imagination. Kirsten gillibrand don't think so I don't think she's known well enough Tulsi Gabbard out of Hawaii definitely has an identity problem. Although she is very articulate, very telegenic. She could jump out there in a hurry. Ultimately, I think she could wind up as a good vice presidential candidate for either a Biden. Or sanders. She might be a little too conservative for Sanders. To moderate. I think is a better word. And I don't know who's left out there that is potential that still could be well, Cory Cory Booker. I think he will announce of the rest, I don't know who said that Jerry Brown bite your tongue in the hallway. Would be well he has no chance of winning. Does he know? But. Even capital Harris would be a very.

"Inside. Good. Donald everything goes good man kids. I mean. Yeah. That was the that was one of the pieces of media news, though. Some of the Clemson players were disappointed. Yeah. But even if that's the okay, I can understand if you wanted a big steak. Yeah. You got a burger instead began. I don't think there's too much complaining guy like a whole bunch of them. There was some fake quote, by the way about him talking about coastal elites and putting words in our mouths and all that that was not true. Trevor Lawrence actually tweeted about it said, I never said this, by the way, I don't know where it came from. However, the trip to the White House was awesome. Good good for him. Yeah. I saw the whole stat forty eight big Macs. Forty to play of fish fifty four quarter pounders forty eight six piece notice I could keep going on. But they didn't get the picture of the pizzas. And all that. And then another piece of audio. We gotta play it's already time for politicians to start jockeying their way into letting you know, they plan to run for president. Oh, yeah. This from the democratic side. Yes. Campbell Harris Harris did something for the late show with Stephen Colbert because everybody is a shouting from the rooftops. I'm relatable, that's basically it that's one of the common people like Elizabeth Warren a couple of weeks ago saying I'm gonna get me a beer. Okay. Like, you say that all the time, right? Right. Oh, I tell how everybody tried to twist that into saying that it was sexist as well. Well, what does she not supposed to have is? You're not allowed to have that beer. Everybody's saying she's not allowed to have that beer. No. It's that she comes across as stiff and wooden. Kevin harris. Meanwhile, she makes Hillary look relatable. Yes. Talking about her favorite music. Okay. You gotta check certain boxes here. Both. Of course and hip hop is where it's got to be go.

"And confronted his neighbors in the same building but he was able to eventually commits it affected him economically and this is what, we see your studies that show. That when your. Trapped behind jail and your. Poor people lose their jobs they lose their source of income it disrupts family it makes it even harder there have been studies. That show that that people who are stuck behind bars are more likely to be convicted of these crimes you're more likely to accept bad plea deal or worse keyed Yeltsin. They would get if they. Were free in order to. Fight the charges because they don't have. Any leverage. They don't have any negotiation Shooting ability they're just stuck there and oftentimes the speed of the system of Justice is so slow if. These are low level charges Served their time while waiting for their child so. What's the point of fighting anymore And, therefore they take, plea deals especially, when encouraged to do so by overworked public, defenders they are lettuce assume they're innocent remember that they. Haven't had a trial yet. But now they've been jail because they couldn't make bail that was the only, reason so they're in jail there in. Jail for a long time waiting for trial and now they're offered a plea deal and, the plea deal might very well. Be time served or they get. Credit for time served, in, jail waiting for trial so they do the plea deal so. Now they say okay I will plead guilty to whatever the charges. Now what happens so now they get out of jail even though they are innocent but now all of us know the the evils that befall you. Once you have been convicted by please We now have a wreck perhaps felony record So now they have trouble getting an apartment except in. Seattle. And they can't the has the check yes have you been convicted of a crime on a job application and all the other data. They have to do to live in society they might not be able to travel anymore because TSA. Will perk up when you check that. Box so their life is, been profoundly changed and remember, in the, hypothetical I am presenting their innocent they're innocent, they got the short, straw and got arrested but because of the this all started with, a veil system because they. Couldn't make bail they didn't have enough money they life. Has been profoundly affected because they could not as I said in lane. Tro they could not simply by their freedom that is the system, that Scott is Bringing to our attention this morning Yes and these new studies this research, shows that if you are to if you, let these people out of prison Don't need to be there because they're not dangerous they're not a flight. Risk. They can go back, and you know this is how our China, trying to sell bail reform to conservative d-actually They are more likely to have jobs there over the next day there was a study that was just released last earlier this year that kind of researched the long term effects between people who. Are freed hired to their trials versus people who. Are stuck in jail prior. To their child and people who were, freeing prior to their trial of a higher wage and earn more money So if you free people not only are you you know reducing the cost of the prison industrial complex taxpayers they're also contributing to society or they're more likely to be contributing to society a couple years later So what we. Will also what Scott has discovered and others who promote bail reform is that of course judges are Human beings and judges I suspect. Live in somewhat in the dock reaches of their brain they have fear of some headline where, some judge, released some Defended who is accused of a crime or gave them low bail or Nobel own recognizance we'll discuss that after the break, and this released defendant did another bad act. And the headlines will be that the judge released somebody and up to threaten society or to harm society and all attention is focused on the judge so the judge, has a profound bias to set high bale when bale may be. Is inappropriate only because he'll never. Have a headline because he said bail too high but she might have a headline if she set bail too low now here that is. The problem there is some very interesting bail reform measures working its way through. The system and have been tried some with success some with not. Success and what's most interesting about this is that it has Has somewhat of BI partisan support we will learn after the break that none other, than Senator rand Paul and Senator Campbell Harris have joined forces to. Initiate some very interesting bail reform. Measures will learn about the bail reform measures will learn about preventive detention the other side of bail when we come back we'll be taking. A one minute break locks mortar follow please stay tuned Secret sauce the founders original recipe for a limited American democracy is a new e book based on.
