So they will talk to Secaucus. And once again, we can listen to the conversation. There you go replay confirms. The call the floor is correct. Got to find a little bit of a wrong here. Ninety four to eighty eight down by six looking to steal one in Chicago. Out really like to see someone honest, nuggets team, take control and ask for the ball and be. In scoring right now, they need somebody to set up as leader. I don't know who it's going to be. But someone needs to say, hey, we're not losing this game. Find a way to get it done. None of us are getting out scored by thirty points from the three point line. And that some moisture on the court they got that taken care of we get back to action here. This might work in the nuggets favorites is they were on a all. Yes, they were this building was hopping. Then here we go joe-marie. Let's the basketball world pass the three point line picks it up, but he's the right way. He's got it out there by Cam remain. Throws it over the yoga straddles a three point line Yokich in the pains of Millsaps turnaround, jump shot. Good big bucket. There has worked a couple of times here tonight. That's when they might want to keep going back to its executed. Very well ninety four to ninety Denver's down by four Cameron Payne high left side throws Levin at the mid circle. He gets a high pick, their Beasley all over LeVine left side to pain. Pain puts it on the floor teardrop runner is. Down by six again ninety six to ninety. He's got holiday on them starts back down. No double team. That's all day. Now, the Doug it's gotta keep one eye on the clock here. A little less than three minutes to go. Puts it on the floor, spin move on Beasley step back had faked doesn't shoot hands it over to Carter back over baseline jumper. John behalf to go. The pass down the lane is hand in there. Another big bucket by Paul Millsap was two minutes to go. The nuggets are down by four. They just gotta find a way to get a stop on the defensive end. Levine has Chicago plenty. Running down the clock here. Nine on the shot clock. Levin has it against Bill says crossover move stock shoots a fifteen hundred jumpers. "And I look and go, okay. Next summer. They're going to have to hit a home run in free agency how much room will they have. Well, there's nobody better to talk to you than Bobby on that. And he joins us now here on ESPN one thousand Bobby Mark. How are you this morning? I'm good guys. How are you? We're good. So I watched the first three games the Scotto bowl season. And twenty four percent of teams who start Owen three make the playoffs. That's it since nineteen ninety one. I do not think this very good team because I think they're awful defensively. Don't have a great point guard. They've got their share of issues marketings out for at least another three four weeks, then he has to get basketball shape. We're are you on Chicago from an outside Chicago perspective looking at them the rest of the season. Well, I think for the three games sample. I saw them in person Thursday night in Philly. I thought besides the beginning of the first quarter. I thought they were somewhat non-competitive against a really good Philadelphia team. I think they've made strides in the last two games. Although, you know, of course, defensively it's a lot is to be desired the two point loss to detroi- last night against Dallas. You know, you lose by six and yeah. Yeah. I mean, this is it's a major major work in progress. I think people in front office will well, you know, we'll tell you the truth that it is, you know, a a rebuild. I of course, you know, with marketing out that hurts set you back a little bit here. But you're trying to trying to put pieces in place figure out who your nation pieces are heard intro. Yes, Zach I think is certainly a foundational piece. You know? He's a score. We know, you know, defensively he's probably not one of the better defenders in the league. But I think guys at the at the end, I think what what's the big goal is going to be figured out. You know, what what are we doing a point guard at the point guard position here, you've got you know, Chris Don Cameron Payne. Yeah. You just kill Harrison Ryan, no they're in a boat. Whereas with teams like Orlando, it's kind of you know, point guard by committee. It's kind of a rotating door and until there's some stability there. Then you know, this team is going to. You know, it's gonna they're gonna struggle. You know, and they'll struggle mightily this year, so but I do like what what the window car junior has been able to do. I know the the stat line has not showed it and pro especially with maybe some of these other rookies have taken off. But I think he's got a chance to be really good player here. But yeah, I mean, this is a major major work in progress. Yeah. Bobby? I mean, you touched on it was one of my biggest question marks coming into the season was the point guard position. I happened to be a big fan of Chris Don having covered him in providence is seeing how he has the ability to be a a strong two way player, but his true impact is defensively right now a heck of an effort last night against Dennis Smith junior something that cannot be understated. Ultimately did foul out. But then you look at the numbers offense will yes, there are seventy cents before thirteen shooting. He just doesn't give you that offense of side. You talked about his shortcomings does this guy have a chance to down that position. Do you think he could be the bulls answer at the point guard position? He just simply think he's just filling time. No, I think. I think he's got every opportunity. You know, Joe when you get two years three, and this is year three of his, you know, the rookie scale contract, and he signed when he was drafted you kind of start to get an indication as far as where a player is going. You know, you never wanna give up on a on a player. But I mean, he's got an opportunity as you know, any player to kinda grab this this this point guard position by by the horns here, and you know, so yeah, I mean, he missed the first couple of games for, you know, for personal reasons here, I did like his defensive effort, you know, in in in Dallas, you know, he had some offense of shortcomings certainly in Minnesota is in his rookie year. But he's got he's got length two way player abilities the fan. I think is offense eventually come. But now is it going to be going to be your, you know, easy going to be your lead charge for the future? And I think that's gonna be that's gonna be the big thing that this team is gonna have to figure out this year. If you were talking about the marks from. ESPN? If you look at the free agent list for next year, and we talked about point guard. I think Chris don's a nice six seven eighth guy. I don't think he's a lead guy is KENDALL Walker. Good enough to be a guy. You would splash a big deal to or would you put your chips on Kyrie Irving who hasn't been healthy? What would you do if you were Chicago trying to hit a home run in free agency? Well, I think a lot of it will be depending on what what happens with what do you do at your bar Parker. Can't bring him back. Yeah. I mean. Yeah. I mean, I in the finding guys is that, you know, the, you know, the the the bulls front office when they signed him pegged him that they were gonna play him at three. And I mean, I'm more comfortable prime probably playing him at small ball five right now. I mean where where I look at the size of Parker. I mean, there's no way in heck that he can go out and guard wings. So yeah, I mean, so if you take Parker off off the roster that takes twenty million now, you're up to about forty five million. You know, it's it's going to be I would have a more comfort level if it was last summer in Chicago was one of seven teams that have cap space like they did. But this this summer is going to be a little bit trickier because you have to leave. He's gonna have room the cap goes up, again, some of those bad contracts from sixteen now come off the books, and you know, there are it is a star leading free agent market. You know, cameras will be out there. I you know, Terry has made it. Known that he'll be probably go back to Boston here. So yeah. I mean, I think those are that's kind of the guy if you're looking for a wink, or that's the guy you're going to target. But you know, I mean, it's probably gonna cost you probably twenty five thirty million. And he's off to a heck of a start down there in Charlotte. I wanna ask you, Bobby. We talked about Zack LeVine. But I look I was huge on this guy coming into season. I said he can be star superstar. No. But he can be a star in this league. You look at his start in the first three games thirty plus at all three of them. What kind of talent is he yes, he's got to get better defensively. I believe he can't with his level of athleticism. Do you think? This guy's got true. Staying power this season. I think he could be one of the top scores in the league. I I agree with you. And I and I look at when you know from the when he, you know, the the ACL in Minnesota, I I kinda threw out when he returned last year kinda out the window because you know, you guys know takes a while for these guys physically mentally to get going here. And I think this is exactly. You know, Minnesota drafted that. We saw really good glimpses with the Timberwolves. And this is the guy that you signed a big contract too. So yeah, I do think you're staying power here for him to continue to go down countdown. This path eventually teams will probably game plan maybe a little bit differently for you. I think it will help. And when marketing just come back because you have another score on the floor here. But yeah, I do I do like what what what's axeman able to do through the through the first three games here. And as I said before you've gotta, you know, wings or hard to get in this league. You know, you've gotta and you've got an athletic wing. I think eventually eventual come so. Yeah, there's a lot of good things. I think if you're gonna you know, I know you look at the record, you know, three. But if you're going to put a bright spot, it is certainly playing Zack. Bobby mentioned that they could have forty five million dollars in capital them. If they were willing to move certain guys off the roster keep the key pieces. How much could they get that number two? And how much would that allow them to sign to max slot guys? Who are those guys because I don't think you're getting Klay Thompson, certainly not gonna leave Golden State. I wouldn't think I don't see them getting Kevin Durant. Les? He decides he doesn't want to be in. Golden State towns is off the board. Kawhi Leonard says he wants to go west. It sounds like so who are guys that Chicago fans can go. All right. How much space can we get? And who can we target? Well, that's that's the tricky part. You know, just because those those A-List out there doesn't mean they're coming to Chicago or New York or Brooklyn, you know, the the Colli Leonard's of the world, those type of you know, you mentioned Klay Thompson that's going to be that's the hard part. And the other thing is is that there's two hundred thirty two hundred eighty this summer and that's half the NBA here. So I I don't know if Chicago will be in play for one of these big name guys because I don't know if they're at a point where the appeal of some of the younger players is quite there yet. I think they're a little bit behind where maybe New York is certainly porzingus is the wildcard there to be able to sell sell a free agents. And and as you guys know the main guys it is hard to pry from either their team or going to sue some of these bigger market. I think that I think the question is going to be do you look at some of your veterans? You look at Robin Lopez. You look at. Justin holiday, guys, you know, who probably will be out of the rotation down down down the road here there on expiring contract. You look to move guys like that. And maybe you take back some salary, but for salary with guys that can play that can help you. And maybe, you know, take a bite out of that cap space for you know, for next year. And I think I do think sometimes Couchbase is a little bit overrated. You know, I've I've been in positions in in New Jersey where we had a ton in two thousand ten and we wound up signing. I say tiers tier see free agents just to kind of fill fill the void here. So I do think you have to be careful with it. You know to not just to go out there. Just because you have to go out and spend Bobby makes some great points there. What's the overall look locally here? We got an idea of what the free agent market looks like in the allure appeal lack thereof when it comes to the Chicago Bulls. What's the league wide perception when it comes to this with the bulls? Well, I think you know, it's a rebuilt. You know, what I mean, they're in the same boat as Atlanta, and you know, Phoenix some of these younger teams, and and there was a patient level here. You know, I think it'll be interesting as far as, you know, in the front office has made a pretty pretty clear that they won't go in that gets in a tank mode when we get going, you know, after the holidays cheryl's, we'll see what happens, you know, where this team is. But they've got so many young players. And I think that goes back to where with Robin Lopez and holiday if you know if you're going to move them. Now, you get more time to to some of the younger players here. But yeah, I mean the league wide perception is that this is a young your top five team in the union average age, you know, they've got tremendous cat flexibility going forward. They are not in the realm of where Toronto Philly, Boston, Indiana, Milwaukee some of those teams are and that there's going to be a patient level here. And I and I think the, you know, if if you go about developing these players and. You make it pretty clear to your fans as far as what that plan is going to be. I think there is certainly in an understanding that, but you're going to have that you're gonna have to hit it on some of these draft picks. So if I said to you, hey, Bobby, I'm going to hire you as a GM, and there's a good take the ten worst teams in the league Chicago being one of them, and you can have any of those jobs with their future going forward. I'm not handing you LeBron LA or Joel Embiid, and Phil I'm handing you a bad team with their future. Where Chicago ranking that. I think they're in the I wouldn't put them in the top two or three, but I would probably put them right in the middle..

"I'll talk about all of them because you just did I broker at thirty three Cleveland at thirty three Orlando, thirty one. I moved Cleveland up from projections. I thought they looked good in the preseason for the relatives of my expectations. Expectations were very low, but I thought they competed more defensively and their offensive system seem to be making a little bit more sense than I fear and Brooklyn. I like their depth. I, you know, I could have had them, you know, little bit higher. This red round the range and it's weird for me to pick and then I've Orlando with thirty one. So I have three teams in the low thirties, which I just said, doesn't happen very often, but I couldn't really put these teams in either direction. I guess that would be an easy way for my win total to get closer to square would be those teams each win, like tooth you're. And that's really where I have that an all finish out the east. I've Chicago at twenty nine defense concerns me if Markkanen was starting the season healthy. I would probably have them. Right around where Landau is, but they aren't and the depth kind of concerns on the guard liner. Definitely. I mean, they don't have backup point guards and Cameron Payne and upset. I'm question Mark. Maybe. No backup point guards. They have Christine. And so so that's a big concern for me. But I do think originally actually had them higher because I thought of the idea that Hoiberg will run through the finish line just like they did last year where they should have lost a couple extra games though. They got Carter and I think that we're pretty well for them then to have the Knicks twenty six. I have them as below twenty six win team without porzingas and then above that with him. But I think the ease ease back in, and then I have Atlanta's the worst team in the league with twenty two. I could see them winning more, but I also see them being more comfortable just kind of easing easing into it and not really pushing as much at the end of the season, and Sacramento doesn't have their own pick. So I think that'll push them up a couple of wins. I think those teams are pretty similar in terms of talent, but the incentives are different. So that's why have them slightly different. I could see maybe Atlanta having the worst record, but Sacramento being the worst team, you know, that's the could be possible by the end of the year, finishing out to Chicago twenty seven wins for me that I've got the Knicks all the way down at twenty five. One of the biggest differences. With their over under which I was twenty nine th the last time I checked it. So as I said, twelve hundred thirty nine wins overall for the league..

"Miss defense Jimmy for that aka the lonely. God planning is the rockets last night as a member of the Shanghai Sharks. He played all forty, eight minutes and forty one points. I mean, do you think any of the GM's paid attention to the Beijing ducks are like we need to get him. Yeah, they also paid attention in the league and we remember, but he can't. He can't guard that statue over there. Forty one points on what forty warning shots. I can get forty one points. Today. Back. Here's another bake flood staying in Houston. Here's harden dancing during pre-game buyer. You like the moves here that's fellow sun. You know, ain't nothing wrong. Lunka, Sir. James go with him, which is the best NBA said is Cameron painful in the NBA all Cameron Payne. Good, good. Question is he still, I don't know. That might eliminate him from the. Yeah, yeah. Go with the Sunda. This easy buckets mantras Harrell is turning heads this preseason. Here. He is blocking three shots on three straight possessions for the clippers should start for docs team. I don't think so. And that's not a knock on him. I think he'd bring something really special tens of energy for them off the bent. I think a better fit with starting lineup. I agree. One hundred, ten percent with everything to me, just say, fair enough. We move on. You were forced sports posted this video of a snake on a golf course, and Katie comment and say, my bad, let me get out of your way. So I mean, what do you think of Durand's troll game here better much better. There you go. Instead of explaining people will actually, I wasn't really this. Go lean into it that ain't a snake. Use naked, you go a lot. Yeah. I'm not seeing the snake like that on the golf course. I'm gonna. Okay, good. That's what I get ballclub everything. I'm. All right. So more from JR on Jimmy Butler's I practice we're having this conversation basically in real time here. Here's the quote from, whoa, ges reporting at one point in the scrimmage sources says, Butler Butler turns GM Scott Layden, scream, you bleeping need me. You can't win without me. Butler left teammates and coaches largely speechless dominated the gym in every way. Jimmy's back said the source to wolf. Why journalists this continues to Ascoli in real time as we're on the air? Any added thoughts to me. Understand it versus ball being coach. Real uncomfortable real hold out NBA. We just make things uncomfortable, but as I understand it, that's not just what he did, and okay, yelling and Cussing. You want to give up some more. I'll give up just this little more. Okay. I heard that he took the third screeners and he beat the starters. Oh, okay. That's a slap in the starters face, but, but this is coach, this is what I'm talking about. When I, you know, I talked about this with Dan laboratory on the de lebatardshow and I'm trying to explain them. He's the best player on that team. I get it call Antony towns, acute nickname, I get every week they're putting them on the while picks he's best on that team. We're talking about impacting wins and losses. This guy doesn't for that team with him in the lineup, they were on track to be number four seed in in the conference without him the almost miss the player. That's, I mean, that's real Jimmy Butler. And let's be clear here. A lot of people making out to be. He's frustrated with the young guys and entitlement that sure that probably plays a part. But what this is really about is this is a guy who wanted to get paid the summer and the timber said, Ooh, I don't know if I've got it, but they had to pay call Anthony. So from Jimmy Butler perspective that you pay him, I'm the one that I'm like the the court said, I'm the one that's you need me to believe win, and you're not going to pay me. Oh, okay. I'll let you know what it's like. And so to do something like that, not only mother bleep everybody on, but they could add like, you know what? A thing. Thirsting. Do a superstar like that plane with a third string unit and being able to beat the, I ring the first stringers that's big time. He said, man is a dog. When you talk about Jimmy Butler, you got us through what people don't understand. He wasn't a blue chip recruit, bright. He pick damn news thirty..

"Offer at one point, seven million, but that's water under the bridge now. So let me give you these names on the wing, and you tell me put him in order to be scary. Nate. Denzel Valentine, Chandler Hutchison number twenty. Two overall pick a out of Boise state Justin holiday Antonio Blakeney who's gonna play the most of those guys at the backup to three. I think to start the season, it'll be Valentine and maybe in the middle of the season if Hutchison plays. Well, I think Hodgson is gonna get a really good chance here to show what he has the. It makes the most of that opportunity. I think he might supplant Valentine up by the middle of the year. I, I don't think the bulls of quake given up on Balentine. Yet. You mentioned that Levin has this elite skill and pull up shooting? Actually Valentine is very good at it to shot over forty percent on his threes last year. So that's one skill that he definitely has resigned percent overall to from three. Yeah. And then Hutchison you know, he didn't really have a great summer league, but the bulls drafted him with the intention. I mean, he's an older player that step in and help pretty soon here. So he fits all the stuff that buzzer looking for with positional versatility. Good transition player can handle the ball little bit. So I definitely envision up those guys. Having decent rotation roles, where's Valentine defensively a real quickly. My estimation is that been that he's been pretty bad. He came out of college with a reputation, at least as a heady defender of, but I haven't really seen him be NBA level personally on the defensive. I don't know if you watch these on like summer run highlight clips, but the all time, spin all over them for being so bad. That kinda mimics his NBA play. I mean, I think that he competes, but he just doesn't have. It's the same thing with what I was saying with Cameron Payne. They just don't have that baseline athleticism that you need to be effective as defender. So I think he's always going to struggle in that regard. I actually don't mind Valentine too much as a complimentary offensive player. He's got some passing ability. You know you mentioned that thirty nine percent three point shooting a believer in his three point shooting and he's actually shoots a pretty well for most areas. He just the problem is he never gets. There are many absolutely never get to the following tickling fifty. One free throws all year. Despite being second on the team in minutes is gonna be as age twenty five busy played twenty one hundred minutes for this team seventy seven games. So yeah, I it's hard for me to think of him as someone who's going to be a part of this team's future, and he's a solid spot up shooter. But he's not really, you know, he's very switchable so that pick and roll acumen shooting the ball to drool isn't as useful is out really gonna come off screens and bomb it either, you know, be get add that to his. Game, I think maybe that could help him a lot. And then holiday. I mean, it's still quite possible to me that Justin holidays, the best shooting guard on this team in terms of actually helping the bulls win games this year. But it seems like just the tenor of things that he is somewhat out of favor and maybe could be a trade or a buyout candidate. Eventually, I think it might be trade candidate and he played, okay. Last season, his numbers efficiency numbers don't look great. But that was largely a part of the role that he was asked to play his basically like retirement, Kobe, where he was just bailing the bulls out all these short clock situations which clearly like capable of doing during the first stretch of the season. It was atrocious. I mean, that was like those all they had on these possessions is like him going off a screen for a long to it was just atrocious. Yeah. So I don't really fault him for that and he's on an expiring deal the season. I think it's only for like four and a half million or something like that. So I definitely do think he is a trae candidate, although the bulls did try to move in last year and couldn't really seem to get anything. So hopefully he he finds a good landing spot. So we did. "Okay. So Chris done Valentine. Fourth year player options decided about interactive over done. Seems inevitable Valentine seems like he was good enough last year to be worth it, and you really don't see like a roster spot grunge slightly like that. Sixteen guys, but. In Bobby Portis. Cameron Payne and I'm no, I d what to expect the Cameron Payne. I'm very low on Cameron paid. This is what I think came Cameron Payne. So Cameron pains? Rookie year. Remember when he and Russell Westbrook had a little dance routine. I heard someone say Russell Westbrook was dancing with campaign at the table before the game, and I literally stopped and thought way zero hippopotamus named campaign and it didn't occur to me that you're talking about Cameron Payne. So that's how important he is a my basketball is like media, but he is a restricted free of the year. So let's talk about them. Again. I mentioned with porter slash year. They're eight point, three points better vessels on offense. He can do some impressive looking things at times for position, intern resolve shots, knocking shots down the decent handle cetera. Thirty, six percent from the three point line on two hundred twenty three tenths, but his limitation Fifty-nine percent of the rim and only forty eight percent of those were sisters. So when you close out on him and he tries to get to the rim, he has no craft, no straight, really finish. That's going to be. I think a thing that really limits it. People were excited about him. We got drafted. He cannot finish shots at the rim at all. Physicality to be to be effective there Denzel Valentine, Alabama, and looked at his numbers and realize, hey, he was a pretty good secondary creator last year. And maybe you know, he gets the more this year, but thirty eight point six point, thirty point, six percent from the three point line really gonna Cisterna ratio for non point guard. But like the Parker Levin. There are questions about where he fits positionally on defense done, had some breakout moments at times last year, had some put together a handful or a nice gains number. I lost them last year probably because a marketing. But we haven't really seen Chris done, do any one thing consistently. Well, so done Valentine. Portis Cameron Payne Dane. Anything you're looking for specifically? These are this season for all four. Yeah..

"Well i mean there's a bunch of different ways to tell but you can tell by his dunks he had a fifty fewer dunks his first year with the cavs compared to his last year in miami not just shows you just had less explosion and so he hired this guy you know you know the cavs were taking care of them too i mean it wasn't a whole team effort but he hired this guy who was a former navy seal who is a bio mechanics and i didn't know what that was i had to be educated on that but basically he used some new techniques lebron hasn't hadn't done before to to deal with the lower back issue and the the results are alfred see his back is not bothering many anymore he had to have a couple of epidurals and his back back then two three years ago he has neither those and he had one hundred forty five tonnes last year the most of his career you know a couple of years after having eighty dunks and i was watching this year he looks at spring is ever cameron pick just as cameron payne from the other night so you know i mean i think part of what he's so excited about as he feels better that he's that he's better than he was that he sort of went through a little lull there and he's athletically back and you know ready for the act three of his career which we're all gonna find out i mean jordan had incredible came back and and i guess actually might have been with the wizards but he says they had you know that that's that mid mid thirties run with the second three peat and i think well i don't know if lebron's going to tell you that kind of stuff but the bronze believes that he has firepower left to to to have another handful of really productive seasons and this year you see showing that teammates around them right now i mean for a little while after the looked like there were clicking but do they have the team to.
