"Let's let's talk a little bit about where you are right now when I think of a a general manager's job in the NFL. I always think of guys who like there's very very few like Bruce Allen's. There's very there's very few guys who get a second chance or even a third chance. You know you look like I look at a guy like Scott Paoli. WHO's a did you did a great job. In New England got one chance in Kansas City now who knows maybe one day get another chance but he hasn't had yet and you're going to get one chance so I WANNA know Y. You're one of the most highly regarded personnel guys in the NFL. Why did you say the jets. Job Is the one I want well. I'll say I'll start off off by saying maybe I'm just steal that right from Joe. I mean I'm not I'm not going to be intimidated by numbers like that. you know. I do believe I do believe myself. I believe that I've been able to be around some of the best people in football world through for the last Nineteen Nineteen Years Twenty years counting this year and so I wouldn't wouldn't be here without them. I'm talking about coaches front office front office executives and players So being around coaching staff were Marvin with Marvin Lewis Jack del Rio Rex Ryan Ju- Brian Billick and then staffs like we were talking about with a Chuck Pagano Cam Cameron Hugh Jackson all these great players you know I'm here because I learned a little bit from them. probably the recognition recognition guys because of the work that they've done you know and whatever. I've tried to glean as much as I can. I'm from guys like that and so you come up with your own processes and you know at the end of the day I think when you're when you're around good good people that are really good at their job. I mean there's there's no you're GONNA win. You're GONNA win more often than not and so I'm trying surround myself or be around people that are like minded that are that are winners that are great people high character people smarten. I'm really good at what they do and and those guys are on my staff. They're not going to be micromanaged. I mean I'm going to trust them and WE'RE GONNA do this together. I don't like saying I mean my. I mean it's we us is was we together ours us you know. US unity over self golf and so that's that's really the culture that were were trying to build when you looked at this job. What were the things that were in place that you liked yeah. They're actually quite a few things. you gotta across us. This stuff said this a couple of times since taking the job quarterbacks and most important position in professional sports not just professional football and I think the future is very bright Sam darnold and just just watching his lab specifically watching his last four games last year coming back from University of injured in the way he played in those last four games and his arrows going up in a major way having to the best players at their position position National Football League Levian Bell just a dynamic playmaker both run and pass game. Cj Moseley fantastic leader having spent time around him in Baltimore. Fantastic leader can be the quarterback this defense guys like Leonard Williams guys like Jamal Adams Gosling Robbie the Anderson. There's a lot of there's a lot of dynamic weapons offense and defensively and then being around This coaching staff knowing some of these guys previously from Chicago being around coach gays for years Chicago sharing sharing the same philosophies. It's funny because we were talking the other day like we're we're both from the same tree he's from the Sabin Trie. I'm on essentially it's really Sabin Bella Chettri right because Ozzie Ozzie work with coach ballot check in Cleveland and then carried that over that philosophy over Baltimore Adam started and it's the same tree but we were different leafs you know and so we we share the same vision and philosophy of what we want to look like and then the people in this building just having time in the interview to spend to spend with Christopher Christopher Johnson getting to know him and just what a good and genuine person he was It just made me feel. This was the right place to be. You were born eight years. After the jets last won a championship it has been a long drought out. Do you feel it and is that something that energizes you or makes you say holy crap. I actually love that challenge. I come into Philadelphia two thousand sixteen. There were success. There had never been that that champion that Super Bowl Championship so that that was always that was always discussed and you mean winning. We got to win a super bowl super bowl ending a super bowl championship. NFL Championships with rain but it's been a long time and then the the single single-minded focus of winning a super bowl championship and were working alongside great man like Jeffrey Loria like Howie Roseman like Doug Peterson and sharing that single-minded vision and focus and everything that went into the steps of go into winning and then achieving that and then the you know seeing seeing the city and how it reacted the those those are memories that I'll I'll have with me forever and how special those those memories were because it changed the landscape of Philadelphia Philadelphia sports and it's not lost on me what you just said and this isn't the first time I've been part of Come on board of fan based. It's craving for championship and it's been a long time so you feel that it gives you it gives you a sense of purpose oppressor gives you sense of urgency and the fans are the lifeblood of this game and we we're. We're we're going to try to put a product on the field on the field every Sunday a mix them proud finishing up with Joe Douglas Heavy met Joe Nemeth. I have not had a chance to meet your name. I mean I can't can't wait. It's kind of cool to think about that. Isn't it who Joe Joe Nemeth is is now like the the biggest guy in my franchise. I mean yeah you said it like Joe. Named is the definition of cool like for me as a kid and you're watching. You're watching those documentaries and those. VHS tapes that I mentioned before like was there anyone cooler at the time than Joe Nemeth you know just the definition of alive yet and you see those you see that I and you see when you see a guy his presence and you see you know when guys have natural swagger and like Joe Nemeth man that was cool. He was cool. He was he swaggie was yeah he was there is a presence about Joe. You could see it jumped off the television. You know when you watch those takes. I'll finish up with this finishing with Joe Douglas General Manager The New York jets. Tell me what do you think you look for in a player that maybe maybe not everybody look in your in the scouting business looks for or maybe what do you emphasize a little bit more than your peers. I do yeah you know. It's that's a really good question because I think in the scouting world. There's everyone has their different. Baseline measurable was whether they want their corner six six O or if they're willing to accept a corner. That's five Oh nine five right. I mean so th those measurable can vary from team to team. I think everyone at their heart will say you know we're looking for smart tough guys and you know. How are we going to go above and beyond that. What are we doing extra. Ah that but it's you know it's it's football intelligence it's it's also it's characterized. It's it's your personal character. How you act outside the building is but it's also your football character so we're we're. We're having our scour breaking down everything personal football character that we're looking for so we have our mission statement and you know what is it you know I. I don't want you know it's we're. We're going to put it up. it'll it'll be up here. WE'RE GONNA put it up in the building at least on the player personnel side but really it's. It's a it's a declaration of what we're what we're are building their six six six main traits were looking for what we plan to do every Sunday and then at the end what we plan on doing every year and and so you know not to give away trade secrets but you know it's a pretty it's a pretty simple declaration but then they were trying to do simple better we're trying to do the simple things so that just becomes like second nature like breathing and so we're going to we're going to harp on core traits that we're looking for for New York jets a lot of it has to do with the person with the man what what what why does this meant. Why does this person love football. I need. I need examples specific examples so football character in general for detailed detailed information on football character actor because the most important room in this building is the locker room and so these guys hold each other countable daily and so if a guy that doesn't have there's a guy that doesn't love this game. He's GonNa stick out like a sore thumb and so you feel when you when you put it up the mission statement in front of the team I mean that's your contract. That's your contract organization. That's personnel department contract for the rest of the organization. This is what we're trying to do and it's a two way street. This is this is what what we expect of you but also if I'm not bringing this type of person in then you have to hold me accountable. I'm failing you and so you know accountability ownership you know those are those are huge things. Joe Douglas Good luck with the New York jets. There's only about and I've lived in Greater New New York for the most part since nineteen eighty five and I can just tell you there's about only about fifteen million people who live in die with whatever whatever it is you're going to do with the New York. Jets look okay. Thanks Peter Appreciate my thanks thanks to devan Canard and Joe Douglas and as for me. I'll be back next week with another podcast. We're GONNA look next week into the NFL's the international realm because the NFL will be in playing international games in a couple of weeks and you're gonNA hear all about it next week on the Peter King..

"So in two hundred thousand dollars you would open it up, and they were all being there and like, wow, that's a fantastic, replacing a handcuff for your wrist. In case you get a sticky situation. So no offense. But I mean it was very nice gift Cameron. Hugh Hewitt here. This he's a little a little low hanging fruit joke, for, for Chandler. I posted a little joke message on Twitter. And I did all the tags in it were different. Pok Mon tags. Stay have some interesting, new followers that are pretty into the gaming community. I had I had you know, I had bought Chandler one thousand dollar, give dollar gift card to Chile's which now all using because of his tardiness as punishment. Those, those are all mind it was a very generous gift this year birthday celebration plan for the very beginning of the show, and I guess we're just have to move on and. Sadly, there's just like an intern walking out of the building with balloon seeing if they can return. All. Return? Yeah. Hey, Clark, canoe since Stevens home. He was gonna. Some chandler. They're both guys like interesting baseball hats, and now that's ruined. So just. Share maybe next year next year. Missed last Friday's show. We missed you very much. What happened was Jesse Tyler and I were at the very end of our, sending our hundred issues to the fritter, there is there is no podcast like a print is red grade, and go to print podcasts. There is a special crazy that permeates the he gets up at five in the morning to work. I'm working till two in the morning. Yeah. You know, like none of us are on our regular since, you know. Yeah. Delirium. We were we were basically delirious. Before we start recording for the first time ever, I heard Jessie Gidel snippy to the point that he sent me a message saying. Before the podcast. I mean it was a rare. Well. I just wanted to hear you do that to Cameron. Good one to miss is all I'm saying, well that's the thing. Again, two weeks at a row, the internet is the Twitter, particularly real concerned about when I missed the show as if I'm some sort of social emotional policewoman on this show. I am not. I am just another co host, but you would have had enough with this. Okay. Can I tell you what can I okay for? I'm not going to go to deep into most of the show consisted of us pitching fictional shows for cable network called bushwack TV show had to feature towards W Bush, prominently, and people started sending we didn't even have an editorial question, because it the Friday show if you started sending us what shows they would wanna pitch as if that was the question we so we go. What I really love about, like not being on one shows, because I'll usually listen back to at least, like front matter in the end just to kind of make sure that I'm keeping up with all the jokes and everything. But when I don't do that. And then I see the editor Oriel question of the week answers that we're gonna talk about today. I always think what had to happen. See in a single show. And sure we'll, we'll answer these questions, reverse engineer. For the first time ever in the middle of the interview segment. Went off the rails. I mean yeah. I heard all this. I heard all this from any to your point earlier when, when I'm not on the show. You know what people say about me they say great having Tyler back. That's great having. This leads someone said something about, like anywhere where you and even and they were like, or Jamie Ivy like this boy, they just want some female. Which I love Jamie being on the show to trip out that was so funny, most of the most of the off the rails had to do with Texas specific content. And so that's why I which would have been helpful with. Yeah, it is, is nothing sacred. If the interview goes off the rails like at that point, you just the, the guest is just like no, no, no. I cannot over this table thing, I really wanted our team to intentionally misspell, max lucado..
