And i'm very intrigued to see if that defense can slow down. That rams offense yeah and vice versa is is a are the cardinals going to be able to move the ball on those rams dude in this is setting up for dominance in the nfc the winner. Obviously since mcveigh got himself a quarterback with a huge arm in Matt stafford He has been really really excited about throwing the ball. Mcvay loves that play where the quarterback role outright and the and the running back rolls the other way and they pass it against the grain and like just a back screen. It's a stable of his offense. There's a couple of different places that he uses quite a bit in terms of getting the ball to running back in space. You saw a lot with with todd. Gurley back in the day. I think you'll see some of it with henderson on sunday so anyway that would-be but again i haven't running back twenty six. I've a really quick question. And i don't want real podcast but from a strategy standpoint just want asked us because i do think it's interesting or at least important to understand the way that rankings are done. Yes when you're talking about running back twenty six and we obviously say like that's a flex play. I think most of the time we would all choose to usually play a wide receiver in the flex over a running back. Npr appr scoring. It's not across the board but most of the time we do that so when running back at twenty six as a flex play. You're more than likely saying you have a wide receiver that you'd probably play over top of him but he's still someone you should consider based on who you've got on your bench fair fair. My has about twenty two your slightly higher than myself for field. You more optimistic yell a little bit. I think that maybe sony michelle joining. The team is a little bit more limited than usual. Daryl henderson obviously played at a high level last season. But your your concerns are are noted and clear. I mean look last season. There were seven games. I've tried to put it into my my work as as i can. Okay but i think in general for the industry that not enough emphasis is placed on these. Are people feel. The fact of the matter is is that these are all people people with like any other workplace may have egos and they have jealousies and there's pettiness and there's politics and there's relationships and good relationships and bad relationships and so i think ryan tannehill a veteran corner quarterback right and aj brown remember. The offseason edgy was like julio all the instagram post. Julio come to tennessee trying to get tennessee like they want who to fit in they want him to be a big part of what they're doing in tennessee. I think that ryan tannehill is going to make it a point to try to get who jones going early and often in this game and i would even see i could even see. I would say he's probably available involved thirty to forty percent of them just because they're so they're still a question mark there. I do think that sarah lawrence is going to be fine. At the was a three or four running-backs that were the high profile. Running back to two thousand twenty john taylor who had jacob donald j camakers and you had one other guy who was again a losing it was when all of those and then you had tony gibson who was in that conversation but wasn't in that conversation when it came out four or five running backs last year i got him in my third round and i was very excited about doing so last year. No this year than you did. Fantastic again gibson. There was some question about him. But like i don't have too many questions marshes. You know what i'm saying. This is that these guys don't always develop right away. I hear and people have a tendency to have a short each especially in redraft lease. It's a win now Philosophy but. "Back here on the gmc fantasy football podcast for the third segment of today's show. You're gonna continue the over-under segment doing the players on the detroit. Lions and talking about them and whether or not they will eclipse be around the same or be below their fantasy totals from a year ago. So let's get right into that starting off with the quarterback of the detroit. Lions you got. Jared goff jared goff was acquired from the rams in the off season. The rams and the lions today quarterback swap matthew stafford. Going to the rams and jared goff coming over to the lions and. I've talked about numerous times. I said how. I want goff to do well on pulling for him this year but he definitely is not going to be the same quarterback that he was with the rams because i definitely think that this is a massive downgrade from the rams going from the rams and now being on the lines though i do think the lines do have some nice pieces on their team. It's not the same. As you know. Throwing to robert woods and cooper cop and higby and having the running games with camakers and todd gurley before that when todd gurley was one of the best running backs in the nfl. So jared goff last year twenty touchdowns. Thirteen interceptions barely through for under or thousand yards. Just missed that during for thirty nine hundred fifty two passing yards in his final numbers. Two hundred thirty nine point nine eight last year. And you know. I definitely think that he's gonna do better than i think. Originally thought i i feel like he's going to be okay. I don't think he's gonna be great but he's going to be okay. The offensive line for detroit is supposed to be not that bad. The thing that i worry about is the weapons. Tyrone williams looks like he is going to be the main guy in terms of their wide receivers. Then you also have a mom rousse brown the guy that they drafted so that your other receiver. They did get rid of bershad paramount who they did bring in. So he's gone. I think he's with the bears now. So you also have quinn safest another wide receiver. You could be a guy that could potentially step up in. Be a guy that gets them targets khalifa raymond and other guy that they brought in as well. So there's really that's kind of the receivers for the lions and then you got tj hodkinson. Who's really going to be the main target for golf this season so looking at golf two hundred thirty nine point. Nine eight th. That was total from last year. I think he probably gets you know around that maybe a little bit below. Espn has projected to be above. That i'm going to say that he's going to be below his fantasy totals because i do think that the lions are really not going to be a good team. And there's not a ton of weapons on this team. And i just feel like off is going to struggle because of that. And he's a guy that just he struggles when he gets put under pressure and i feel like that is going to play a huge role this season. And it's just going to be. It's just gonna be hard for him because you know they don't have a ton of weapons on this team. I think he will have some good games at points during the year. But i feel like overall. It's going to be a struggle for him pulling forum. Hopefully he does well and you know he proves me wrong but as of right now i'm gonna say he's not going to eclipse his fantasy totals from last year. He's gonna be below that. And i don't think he's going to have that good of a season so moving onto the running back position for the lions i. We got de'andre swift and right now it looks like he's going to miss game one. He's my rb to in one of my fantasy leagues. And i think that he definitely can have a good season because he is really going to be one of the main weapons on this detroit. Lions offense but the fact that he is going to miss you know some time or it seems like he's going to miss at least the first game of the season. There's a little bit concerning for me. Because i don't want because he's dealing with a groin injury and i don't want this to linger into war games during the year. Because you know. I like i talked about in the first segment. I'm kind of a little bit about the running back. Depth in one of my lisa damian harris filling in four swift. But i would like to have swift on my team and be playing hope again. I hope he doesn't miss week. Want i mean he's going up against the forty niners defense which is not a particularly good matchup but i do think that if he does play you know most likely going to start him over damian harris but will see last year swift though however hundred sixty six point eight fantasy points eight touchdowns five hundred twenty one yards on one hundred fourteen attempts and yeah. He did miss a handful of games last year. He missed between weeks. Eleven through thirteen. And i think you know if he plays the full season or you know at least if he plays two more games that he did last year or three will because now you had the extra game into that i think he definitely increase his fancy totals from last year. Because again the lines really don't have ton of weapons. And i do think that he will be involved in the passing game as well so i'm going to say that he does eclipse fantasy. Totals from last year. Barring that he doesn't miss more than at least one game because mrs only one game definitely will still be able to eclipse it but if you start talking about two three four games with this injury that's going to be a little bit of a problem but i say that he is going to eclipse his fancy totals so moving onto the next player. You got jamal williams talking about the running back so last year. One hundred eleven point six fantasy points for him. Five hundred five rushing yards on one hundred nineteen attempts in two touchdowns definitely think he'd get more than two touchdowns this year and he's definitely going to play a bigger role in this offense because he goes from a team in green bay which was loaded at running back last year with aaron jones and then. Aj dylan came on strong towards the end of last year. And then also you have all the wide receivers. You're gonna be competing with the target. So now he goes to a team. That doesn't have a ton of weapons. So i do think that he will have a big role in this team as well and it seems like the lions they wanna kinda split carries between these two guys at both..

I believe that murray was banged up a little last year towards the end. But i don't think it matters against these monsters. Who's over on their win. The lions went eleven and five. Like he's gonna be great for this team. He's knocking his grew up as much as there used to mcveigh. We seemed inconceivable in january february. As i definitely godman. Somehow they bring all their receivers back some. They made their defensive line better with try. An john's like people are saying he's the defensive rookie of the year possibility on that stuff. I just think they're going to be absolutely loaded and that you have like they actually got the practice gather all year. They'd brady there. The whole year. Brady seems locked in. Radi the back to back thing for him to be able to do that yet again. At another stage in his life and I don't their schedules that hard. I think they're going to be at least twelve and five going over i. I know everyone's gonna hate this reasoning. But i think this is a fixed line for every reason us at like at eleven and a half right. They lost five games last year right so there are eleven and five. I'm going to make the case that everyone's gunning for them but it really doesn't make sense that they shouldn't win twelve or thirteen games in that division. And you know What did we say. Twenty two starters back plus antonio brown cinder sato deep. That's the thing it's like. They they have no holes. Nobody can find holes of the the fact that they're quarterbacks forty four but fucking look at that guy and he's he's like benjamin button it doesn't make sense but that's it right. Who the rams this preseason had already said knock gonna play in preseason games kind of rest up that angle. make sure. It's all good this time last year due to it and now he's dealing with something else right now it's a thumb and they're calling it. A mild thumbs sprain. They've already said they expect him to be available for week one. But i think this just adds to the notion that darryl henderson is cause for concern as a three down back. He's had injury issues going forward. There's no question on the talent. The speed the acceleration. But i wanna take you back to last year when you had a quad injury in week eight. They had the by the following week. And if you look at his rushing stats after that this is when cam acres started to really takeover but in week eleven eight attempts for five yards and we twelve ten attempts for nine hundred three for forty nine the next week. Two for five then one for minus two. He struggled at the end of the year even as he was getting back from that and then he had ankle injury which cost him the final few games of the season. I think they love daryl henderson talent. I don't think they have thought ever that they could really rely on him for three downs. Even though sean mcvay hinted that that he could be a three down back he's still expressed concern about him. Actually being able to do that across the season i feel like an injury that happens now. Even if it's not going to cost any anytime in their regular season to begin the year only reaffirms the rams senses the. Hey maybe we do need to either have a plan for darrow henderson or acquire. Somebody else who could help us be more of a workhorse back. This is the team that few years ago picked up c. j. anderson off the scrap heap and turn them into one hundred yard per rush one hundred yards per game rusher so this system has certainly made lesser known or later stage running backs in their career very productive. Rush percentage since sean mcvay came to the rams a lot of that fueled by todd gurley of course but even even todd early last season in los angeles when it didn't seem like he had a lot left in the tank. He still scored double-digit touchdowns me like he has always had a productive fantasy running back dating back to you know even when he was in washington and he was the offense coordinator there for that team. So just whoever the guy. Is that the lead running back. Sean mcvay offense running behind a pretty good offensive line is going to have value. And then you add somebody. Like darrell henderson. Who you and. I've talked about is a good football player. Maybe not as good as camakers. Whatever but last year when he got an opportunity he produced he had six different games with twelve or more touches last year. He averaged fourteen point. Three fantasy points a game which on a per game basis basically been running back seventeen and now he's got the opportunity to be the guy on an offense that we things can be a lot better because they're gonna be in scoring position more often and more efficient with matthew stafford under center. I don't understand by the way no comp there's no camakers there's no malcolm brown like listen. They xavier jones. That's the insurance. You wanna if you draft aerial henderson. They had jake funk there but unless they son a veteran. It's the darrell henderson show. He's a nice pass catcher. Gimme all the darrell henderson. This year. interesting. I see differently. I concerns again because concerned with that. They don't that they're all hinder. Skin can handle that job the way you think he can handle the job. I don't believe and i just. I saw the rams when they were having join practice with the cowboys. Just the buzz. The feel i got was that their ears were open and eyes were open to the potential that they might get someone else late in the preseason before the season began which is totally fair. My argument daryl. Henderson my counter to that is i. Don't think darryl henderson needs twenty touches like again. This is a guy with a lot of scoot. If he gets fifteen touches in this offense which i think is completely reasonable mid tier rb to man he. I think the problem is that like basically. Since his rookie season ended there have been many more indicators suggesting that the rams don't wanna make him a high volume guy than there have been indicators that they do wanna make him a high volume guy. The strongest indicator has been at the player who got him on. The bench got hurt in a freak accident training training camp. Obviously but my point is. Is that my argument to that. Is like he doesn't need to be a high volume guy in this offense to be fantasy productive especially where he's going. I've got twenty one. You have your lower consensus. We don't so quickly i want. Ask one quick question field understanding that. You're not quite as high and neither am i. Is there a backup. Or is there an insurance policy in that offense right now that you think is worth rafting if you're not that high internal i'm not drafting an insurance policy there yet because also the thing that we didn't get to say is that the lead. Back into sean. Mcveigh offense like they had three different backs last year. Like they they. They wanted to make a committee up until camakers gave them no choice. So again i i when i was talking about henderson when k makers initially got ours. There's kind of one or two ways goes the rams go all in on him or he gets hurt almost right away and we're talking about him by week five being either on the bench or somebody else having more carries and oh by the way they now have a quarterback who can throw the heck out of the ball who i think will be throwing into the end zone lot more often say last thing is that like i think i do. Think the idea of them. Adding a veteran running back is more in play now than it was before. And as you look around the league how many teams that we see. You're like how are they going to keep all of these running backs. I mean guys like tony jones last night or flashing for the saints like we've seen tons of players in the preseason that look like nfl running backs but are also fourth or fifth string on their respective rosters all right..

"Max your up. I this concern you yes it does. I mean look. I don't like preseason period. I wish they'd get. Because the only thing i care about in preseason his please get hurt on my team right anyway. I want to get him. And so the fact that he's not playing reduces it minimizes injury risk. And if you ask me. Do i want more ready to play or do i want to make sure that leg is healthy because we saw pretty solid mid pack quarterback even behind an awful offense line with no saquon last year. Then he hurt his leg and he was awful. He was terrible right. I'd rather have him healthy. The thing that bothers me. Most though from what. I've seen with the giants so far as i was picking them to win the division. I'm not moving off it yet. But i just assume over time the offensive line will improve has not looked like it. Has you know it was picking who to win the division. What do the giants are the second best team in the division and the second best defensive team and so while. they're not as good offensively as the cowboys. They're much better defensively. Same thing on the other side with washington. But i thought they'd be better off the offensive line. Still doesn't look fixed. it's still like really bad. And that's going to hurt saquon which is going to hurt daniel jones and also makes me think it increases injury risk during the preseason so so where i come out on it is i wish they had fixed the offensive line. They didn't but my main concern is daniel. Jones is health. So it's not the end of the world that he didn't play a lot in the preseason. Now i'll tell you this before we came in here. Especially around the goal line the touchdown rate for running backs the once they get in there. They're going to run the ball in for a score. They sean mcveigh has a great system to do that off. It's of line has been capable of doing that whether matthew stafford as a great season versus a good season is entirely on the back of touchdowns and you can argue which have plummeted in recent years compared to what he used to be. Well yeah the bounce back is talking about twenty seven through twenty seventeen where matthew stafford was six out of seven years in a row. He was a top ten fantasy quarterback. This is a guy who can get it done for fantasy for sure now. He's on a much better team. Much better offense with better weapons. Maybe not the elite like kinney golladay might have been better. Obviously calvin johnson was better but it was always them and nobody and even when it was him and marvin jones they were. You know not always healthy together. This last year. He finishes the quarterback fifteen for a bad team while being injured and having pretty much know. Kenny golladay but i- circle back to the touchdowns because the that i've projected it and we know camakers very high in my rankings. I'm projecting more of the same from the rams. But i want to paint the picture because we have to look at all angles and fantasy and say okay okay. It could be more of the same as what we've seen. We've got the stork evidence for or let me ask this question when they got near the goal line did they run the ball so much. Because they had jared goff and todd gurley like whose hands did you wanna put the ball in at the five trust. Jared goff to make a play happen or give it to your world class. hide first round. Pick running back like maybe. The reason they ran in so many touchdowns is entirely because of the personnel. Not the scheme. So i could see a world where now they're saying. Do we wanna put it in the inexperienced camakers hands or matthew stafford. Let him scramble around. And find someone for a touchdown if matthew stafford comes out and throws thirty five plus touchdowns he will be a top five quarterback because the yards will be there you know. He's he's a very very capable quarterback and they paid a lot to go and get their guy He's also still young enough to get it done already three. Yeah i mean this is not like over the hill for For stafford so with the offense with a capable offense coordinator probably the best core of receiving weapons. He's ever had if the touchdowns come he's a greatly certainly with the best play caller ever been with. Oh yeah i do want to like if you just look at career finishes. The last three years have been rough right. Twenty twenty nine with the injuries and fifteen. But i want. I want people to remember what twenty nineteen was like in those eight games. They came paces awesome. They gain pace was fifty three hundred yards and forty touchdowns so then the game eight games that he played. He had five top six finishes at the quarterback position Pretty much undrafted that season. So if you picked him up late use streamed him. You played him. You lived in a very happy place for those eight games before he went down so i don't think he's being drafted or talked about very much. He would be a bounced back to kind of those big time years he had seasons ago. But you know if people have been making the compelling case for jared goff and fantasy off seasons for three years. I don't really understand how matthew stafford other than a complete lack of seeing it with your eyeballs because you've never seen him in this jersey you've never seen him with this scheme you never seen him with these wideouts and so. I think that that kind of ambiguity has caused him to be ignored. That that's fair. I mean it's still a scary proposition and far from guarantee. Yeah when. I look at the late round. Quarterbacks what you're which is which is you know where we as as a show are usually drafting from I'm wanting to find someone who can get off to a hot start. Who could become a top eight quarterback over the course of the season. That just takes that leap in there are enough markers here with stafford being given a great receiving core great offensive play caller and the opportunity to truly scorch the earth. And i think they're gonna let him because they knew what their whole was on offense. And it was. Jared goff like nobody in the world jared goff. Is this great quarterback. He was just good enough to run the system and they. They're like yeah. That was good enough to get us to super bowl but we want to win one and guy that can make plays on his own. Maybe with my last pick if there's Someone that's fallen to a great value or something like that but if you can really show massive strength at the beginning then you can load up at your wide receiver and your flex spot. Unfortunately that didn't happen. So i'm looking here at the running back centre left. I don't feel confident enough. David montgomery will be the next good back. Chris carson is there and they're good but they're not necessarily good enough for me to bypass my first wide receiver. I've already got two running backs and take that strategy. So that strategy is out for me. darren waller. George kill are gone so tight end is out for me. We're in the third round. So quarterback is out from it so i know i'm at wide receiver here and when i'm wide receiver. In between my my two highest guys. Which would be amari. Cooper and alan robinson and i've seen this quite a bit this year where i'm looking between those guys. And i like amari cooper more. He is ahead of my rank it. That doesn't bother me. But i'm not gonna take him. Whoa okay okay. Because i have seen in the reality is i'm on the short term. Here's this might be less valuable for me than if i was about to go onto my long term pick but the reason i'm going to select alan robson. A set of amari. Cooper is cd lamb the fact. But i don't wanna stack them with amari cooper and so i feel like if i'm taking allen robinson that doesn't there's no one else there that would get in my way of a wide receiver that that i like. So i'm gonna take allen robinson. He's a top ten wide receiver in my rankings. This season how do you feel about having Zeke did the fact that you had. College football Week 1 wrap-up
"Twitter feed now last night in college football had the cap to the first weekend in college football. And we have great matches the last two nights. So obviously, no NFL this weekend. No NFL games coming up until this weekend. And so we had to nightcap college football games. LSU? Miami was a blowout. LSU announcing very loudly to the nation that they are here in Miami. We're gonna have to wait on them being back for a little while longer. Well, Virginia Tech announcing something in very similar fashion. A twenty four to three victory over Florida state with first year coach Willie Taggart in tow for the Seminoles. Now, how bad was last night's loss for Florida state? How bad this all work? Well, glad you asked last night for Florida's state especially offensively because so much of what Willie Taggart did and was coming in to do was centered around this uptempo offense. We had seen him jump. Start a program like south Florida seen him in his stop at Oregon will last night. Florida state ran sixty three offensive plays thirty five went four zero or negative yards. That is fifty five and a half percent of their place. If it weren't for one long camakers one Cam was well on his way to averaging under a yard a carry. It was that bad across the board for Florida state. And really it looked for a long time to be that bad for the ACC.
