Batherson helps Sens beat Red Wings 6-3 for 4th straight win
"The Ottawa senators took down the Detroit red wings 6 to three in their Atlantic division matchup. Drake batherson had two goals and Alex to break it registered three assists. It's nice we can get the power play going and then our penalty kill is pretty good. Only give up a 5 on three, which is pretty good for how many penalties we took. Goaltender cam Talbot made 29 saves in the victory. The two teams traded goals through two periods, but then Ottawa pulled away. Claude Giroux, Tyler Mott and Austin Watson all tallied in the final frame to force the decision in favor of the senators. With three on the power play and two short handed, 5 of Ottawa 6 goals came via special teams. I'm Jeremy cake over.

"Got a big shock a lot of it. Synchronization man like two T now grounded some of them sitting Crosby has seen it a thousand times. Right. So I guess he's okay with it, but they were all just so perfectly. It was terrific. Quick thought on two players who let's steal Jack used term are on haters right now, right? I think they're doing okay. Yeah, they're doing okay. I think they're doing okay. Yeah. So Mitch marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs is riding a 13 game point streak. So he got a point in that overtime loss to the islanders on Monday night. And Jason Robertson, the Dallas stars. People are tweeting about it is if we don't know who he is. We know who Jason Robertson is, but in fairness, if it's Robertson in Toronto and it's marner in Dallas, we're probably talking a lot more about Jason Roberts and in Toronto or a Canadian market. He is going someone under the radar, which is just flattering. He is. Every time I look at Jason Robertson now, I think of what Rick bowness, who is the Dallas coach. Now the Winnipeg coach told me last year, we were doing a Dallas game and it was getting a little information. I'm like, hey, you know what, I like to try and compare players of today to somebody from the past so that older generation can make a comparison. Like, who am I looking at here? Any thought for a second and he goes, Luke robitaille. And I was like, really, he goes, the puck's always on his stick around the net. He's never really going to beat anybody in a skating race, but he gets to where he needs to go. He's strong on the puck, and he can finish. And so I don't know that Luke ever became the guy that everybody talked about. And he scored 60 goals, right? And so maybe that's going to be the type of player Robertson is, but 12 goals on his 12 game streak, he got two last night in their three two overtime loss to Colorado. I just, I'm fascinated with guys that can do this, that they're still set, maybe isn't so definable. Yet it's different than everybody else. And I mean, a great run that he's on. Let's wrap up headlines with this. We've got Dave Nolan's former general manager who's going to step in. So he'll give us some insight into the thinking as many clubs now are at the 20 game marker approaching the 20 game mark. So the Ottawa senators lose to the San Jose sharks. Ottawa is now one 5 and one on the roadway this season. Cam Talbot is a tough start. He allows three goals on 7 shots. So that forces DJ Smith to pull his goalie for a second straight game. We've talked a lot on the podcast and the mainstream media, but what's going on in Vancouver. So whether we drill down with known us on the specifics of those two clubs, I'm more interested in how you go through that process of making the decision. When I just feel like I got to make a deal or I got to make a change. So does it feel like we know what it feels like around Vancouver because we've talked at nauseam about it. But what about ROR? You starting to get that feeling like something has got to give there? Well, again, they would be best to ask this because to me it feels like something does have to change except everybody got so excited about the summer and the signings and the players coming in and rarely. I've used this example before and baseball, they say teams win the winter, go in the off season meetings. They rarely win the regular season. They just don't. I don't know why everything lines up. Everything lined up in Ottawa. So well, and they're like, yeah, they could get another defenseman. While we're seeing, it's not that easy to go get another defenseman. At least one that can help you. And so they get stuck a little bit. And I would say you have to know where you are because you can't look at what every other team does. You know, three weeks ago at St. Louis blues had lost 8 games in a row. And they're saying, oh, should Doug Armstrong break up the team. Well, now they've won 7 in a row. They were either really bad or now they're really good or they're somewhere in the middle and they've got to figure that out in Ottawa because now all this noise about who's buying the team and all that stuff. And in the meantime, your season's getting thrown in the ditch. Yeah, it's a hard place to be. They're just not there yet. I mean, the reality is they're not quite good enough yet. Those are your headlines. Thanks again to Boston pizza. Our interviews on ray and Riggs this year brought to you by our friends at Canadian club whisky who are asking are you over beer? "So it's definitely more to take in consideration and not that I've been selfish, but I feel like I've fulfilled my dream for so long and I'm very lucky for that. So I don't want to be selfish moving forward either. Now, last year, you come to Minnesota and you're with cam Talbot as your goalie partner. And cap reasons are, you know, they move him to Ottawa and you get Philip Gustafson back as a partner. So now you're much older than your goalie partner again. There's a lot of talk about how many games can you play, how much is comfortable? What is it like a to be to have a goalie partner? Because you guys are your own little team there. We all like you guys. You are your own little team. And how much is good for you to play? Like, is it a couple of games a week? Is it like, how do you, how do you come to that? Yeah. I don't know, it's a tough question. I don't think I can set number in first season or week week. I think it depends on the schedule and the travel, how much you move it around. Oh, it's gone, right? I think you still want to be still on the good and stuff. So, but I think we go when we get a time pretty much what we've got to add. I'm still feel good. Still feel healthy, right? Yeah. I don't know, I'm not too worried about the number. Whenever I coach tells me to go play it. Now last night, you got to watch, well, today's, I don't even know what today. Today's Thursday. Wednesday. You watched Philip Gustafson play, played play great. Yeah. What do you do when you are not playing? Like you're watching Gustafson in the game, like first of all, you guys go almost two periods again without scoring and you're like, holy, somebody shoot it the next, right? How stressful is it to you just to watch? Is it worse than playing? Oh, it's this, oh yeah, a little bit because I feel when you play you just, you know, you're in the game and it started to stop the next box. You always busy, right? That's so easy. When you were just watching, I feel like you're more on edge of it. Every little place like, oh, you know, I got a lot more emotional. But again, it was fun watching him like you said he had an awesome game kept us in all night and it was fun. Fun to see boys celebrate after the first goal in the next few months, right? So it's good to be on the bench with them cheering for those goals. So spurgeon and rodine on the surgeons injured brodine and the COVID list. He's eligible to come off. I think this week, Joel Erickson act, fantastic player, quiet underappreciated. He's out with an upper body injury. So they're missing three of their best players. Cam Talbot settled in a little bit after just a brilliant start. He got hurt in the outdoor game. So look, you know, we touched on the rangers earlier. The rangers are going to go through this at some point, Drake's. They're going to go four in one somewhere. And the sky can't be falling each time it happens. The one thing that the wild have and the rangers will have is they got points in their pocket. It gives you a little bit of breathing room. You mentioned Jordan Congress, let's flip over to the St. Louis blues. What a game he had at the winter classic. But it's the evolution of a young career, isn't it? The development of a skilled player, you know, there's been a lot of talk with the Boston Bruins and whether or not he's going to get traded. I know that that look, Doug, Armstrong, the St. Louis blues, historically about a lot of interest in Jake Nebraska. But when they were having quasi meaningful discussions, Boston, St. Louis, Don Sweeney is looking at Jordan Cairo. As one of the young pieces that he'd have to get back in a depressed trade an army, obviously, no, no, we're not doing that. At least not yet. I'm always impressed and maybe you're less so because you played so many games in the league at how management groups can identify a developing talent that maybe needs a little bit more time, but their patient in that process. And they're not quick to go, okay, well, I don't know what he is. I don't know if he's going to pan out. I know what that kid is. I can see him playing Nebraska and he's going to make us better. They had interest in the brus but not at the expense of Jordan Cairo and maybe we're seeing lying now. Well, when you see a team, you know, with all their scouts and their management team, I mean, everybody's got a job to do, and it all goes down, you know, it lands on the general managers desk. To make the final decision. But the St. Louis blues drafted Jordan Cairo..

"Like them. I just think that they're a team. That has so much talent. And you always bet on talent. You always bet on talent. I'm curious camper. If you can stay healthy. I think he's an enormous. Add to those guys. I really liked their team. I think they're going to be fine and like listening them a car and and mckinnon talk to us about losing that series and what they learn from it. I liked it. I i still think this team has a lot of room to grow. They're not done and their elite talent. I think it's gonna sign there for a long time. Dallas They add ryan suter Johnny hawkin pa comes in as well. The line that we've found some magic last year jason robertson repay hinz and joe pavlovsky I see no reason why that can't continue to be a a line that does damage and big things were expected from players like dennis korean off. Who didn't have the best possible season last year. We've talked a lot about the goaltending situation. And how that plays itself oats between khudobin and hopi and injure in ben bishop. How do you see the dallas stars. This season i think their deep. I think they have a lot of players. Like to me. The thing with dallas. Is they look to me like a team. It kind of went through with pa- vel skin perry and they still a couple of other guys like that. Who are a little bit older. And you can't always depend on them to bring the most in the regular season so if you rest your group gets him into the playoffs you look at them and say i want no part of this guy. I think they got a lot of players like sudanese thirty six years old. But he's still a really fluid player. Who can play. Not as many minutes as he used to play but enough. I think they're going to be fine. I think no one's gonna wanna see them in the postseason if they're goaltending heads up. I think there are what passes in this. Division is a reasonably comfortable playoff team again. How much are they going to score. Like tyler sagan to me is can can he just get wine healthy season where he can you know. Breathe a little bit. That's something i want to see too but there's a there's a lot i like about this team. I just think they have a lot of good players. I think they're really deep minnesota to really exciting team and it's not just capris off topline with joel eriksson neck and mats zuccarello looks pretty dynamic They're out suitor as we just mentioned but you know doumba spurgeon bodine Still very much there. They bring in alex. Goski cam talbot capital kotkin So an excellent tandem in net as well an interesting training camp will d gets injured. That's tough that sucked rossi sent to H. l. iowa a love the atom beckmann story He got sent down to the american hockey league. But not before turning heads and it was a fun story to follow. Give us your thoughts on the minnesota wild for each look. I was curious to see how this team would react like their. Gm made the most stunning off season move of any gm in the league. Sure did and you're sitting there and you're looking okay. Like how does this team react when they get back. And i don't think they look shellshocked or anything like that. I think they're fine. So that says to me that this team is going to be okay. I'll tell you something else too. That really impressed me about caprice off later. So capris off comes back and he says okay. I'm in florida. Come meet me here and the hammer out the deal and guarantees like okay. You know we gotta figure out how to get vaccinated like no. I came back here to make sure i was in the right position to be vaccinated. And that's taking care of like to me. That's a guy who has his heart in the right place like he went and he took care of all of those things so then when he got done it was the best possible position to be ready to start the season for his latest contract. Talks with i just like that. like i think. When when your franchise player. And he's their franchise player is wired that way. I think it rubs off on everybody else because he signed these in. And you're like okay. He's taken care of everything. He needs to take care of on his own initiative. I liked this team to like. You know the one thing that difference for them this year is they're not going to surprise everybody that anybody this year last year. They surprised people and he's surprised people this year. That's not happening. Everybody knows who they are. And they're getting everybody's good game. So how do they handle that. And the other guy who i really think this year will be big for is doumba. 'cause there's no more rumors. He's a wild. No watch will go them tomorrow. Just a fool with all our minds. But i wonder how it's going to be for the doesn't have to worry about this stuff anymore. Yeah just play. Just play just going. Play the nashville part. Of course we are at that part of the program. Now we're talking about nashville. And this is life without pekka rene who has called it. A career life without ryan ellis Who moves along but life was from new faces. Whether it's glass myers tolkien tomasini. Oh i mentioned earlier. The david poile is now talking about competitive rebuilds. Which will be the next buzz. Term that hits the the nhl gives you don's on on this national squad that is probably at the beginning the beginning parts whether it's with tolbert and whether it's with thomas no the v. and we'll see what happens you know when you're slava's off finally you know Starts playing with the the nashville predators. This is the beginning of another version of the nashville predators. I just wonder about two things that will tell us. I think a lot about which direction this organization is headed fridge and their two contracts one forsberg one at home. What say you. I want to get to them in a second. I think that's really interesting. Is that they have played forsberg duchenne. Joe hansen altogether in the preseason to me. That's really fascinating. Because that is natural. Saying we're coming out. We're putting our top three offense forwards together and we're making a power line out of them that to me is a statement. Now whether that lasser or not coaches are we going to spread it out and john heinz like no. Forget that we're going with this. I liked that. I think it sets a tone. I'm i'm with you. this no talks on forsberg. That's really fascinating to me and eco. Home the thing about at home is eh comb was a bargain last time around and he said you know i don't care don't need more money now. I think everybody realizes he's not a nine million dollar guy like nurse because his counting stats aren't that high. But he's still a really good really talented player. And i think they're battling to find where that sweet spot.

"Disaster parisi ryan suda in coal and kosten suzy. Cup odds for them at twenty five to one They got a new look de right now. Kinda needs to improve. They gave up two point. Eight four goals against last year. They want to bring that down But they got a pretty good core of brodine doumba spurgeon and i think the question mark is sent a michael rossi number nine overall. Pick twenty ready to emerge. Help this team right now what. Let's go buddy the most exciting time you've ever had as a wild fan. Now we dog this team for years and last year i said caprice off changed the entire vibe around them. The entire like experience watching the team play on tv. At least it was all switched up with this one player and that can happen. I mean that can truly change organization. Around and i think he completely like he's he if he's not going this season. This team really has no chance. You know what. I'm saying like he's gonna completely figure out and play the way the team needs to for them to be successful so i know he can score. Offensively gets this huge contract. There's going to be more pressure with that. I don't seem it doesn't seem like he comes off type. A guy who cares at all about the age goes out and does his job. I don't know. I like so many additions. They brought in alexandria gorski. Who else did they bring in. They kulikov came into your edmonton. I got him written down. You know those are two defense and they can move the park there later splitter parts of their career but i mean i i think john merrill also getting some depth in a team on the back end which kinda struggled they did lose sooner but up to have fiala sign to have campus off and what he did. I think they're in the playoffs. I gotta look in the playoffs. I'll say that are a you touched on the back end scares me a little bit and i had written down. Can they build off that momentum from last season and you could really sense a culture shift and you know. I was not in that locker room based on comments made about the fact that they got rid of suitor and parisa. They seem to think that they were going in. An even better way as far shifting the culture and i like them upfront bill and they got some big bodies much like i said about colorado. I liked those big physical presence. You got felina. The fucking moose. You got greenway on his other wing. How about that fucking line with hartman. I just maybe the depth. That center scares me a little bit. I love that zuccarello line especially in the chemistry that they have with caprice off and that Ericsson ac one of the best bargains and league in my opinion and the chemistry that may gain after Zuccarello came off injury at the start of the season. I just at the back end. I i just. I i have my i have my question marks about it and given the strength the division guys. I have them taking a step back and not making playoffs. I think this team is in great shape. I think that they they could definitely shove it up my hoop and make playoffs. But it's just it's just too tough of a division and you you touched on fiala. I love his progression as a player and he has fire that he brings to line up night in night. Out and you you see year over year. He keeps taken that another step another step another step last year. Twenty goals twenty apples best point production these ad in his whole career. I would imagine that You know given the lack of offense in nashville. They're probably regret and get rid rid of him. But i i like the team. I like the way that the cultures going. I love billy. Gee but i don't have them making playoffs guy. He's really done a great job of just rebuild than this team and in his own image. I mean obviously with guys like parisi and ceuta mainstays in their franchise he. He had no loyalty loyalty to them. So it was like. I have no problem getting rid of these guys. And i mean they're going to have some cap issues doodles buyout soon enough but right now but i. I think they're the kind of win now. Window and as far as it goaltender. Man cam talbot. I thought he was outstanding in the playoffs. Last year it was a tough series loss from. But i got minnesota definitely one hundred percent back in the playoffs. What about you grenell. Kerr i do as well all right. I definitely got him back Young guys watch that. Matt boldy played at bc raker and he'd played world years and then pretty much lit up the shell when he went when he went there so he should. He should get a chance to season with them. Another forward big big who can play business way off on on on dalla so far in this division. you've colorado chicago. Only yes okay. Marco rossi kid for minnesota's gonna have a good year as well grinnell pick. Okay we're going off to the press now and i'm gonna keep it short and sweet okay. national predators last season ended. They lost in the first round. Four games to two. They brought in cody. Glass film is david riddick. They wave goodbye to victor avidsson. Ryan ellis kellyanne How ninety two one a little bit value there You see. Sarah's is an absolute stud is enough to carry them to a playoff spot. We'll see what's his face. Cody glassy was a number six overall. Pick and seventeen. There's some good potential their. We'll see what happens with the changes senior with him. But i think biz. The question with nashville is has the window closed. I feel like every year. They just get like a tiny bit worse. I was surprised to see a make playoffs last year. I think their surprise. Everyone after giving that shitty start we had. I think we had hines as the best odds to get canned after about fifteen twenty games and you know he was able to figure that team out they were able to get done. Defensively with unbelievable goaltending I think the only playoff team last year who where defenseman led the team in scoring. They do not have any offensive threats upfront other than maybe forsberg..

"Jacobsen's pretty high. I'd seen a rumor that it was too. And i'm i in a second but we don't know but like clinton keller has moved so mike wondering why he isn't included intrigue talks. But i guess because he's still like twenty three chickens like twenty four so i don't know any who Yeah there's not really much to say about the coyotes. I mean i'm excited for their drafting me to and see if they get shane right. Me too Do you wanna go first for number seven. Iago i remember number seven. I have The nashville predators yeah. I think that they did nothing to improve this off season. They lost rhinos. Who was one of their best defensemen right behind. Romanucci and their bank is put their baking their banking heavily on uc sorrows carrying them again. Which which he did. Last last season they have the death they have death but like not much star power Right before sorrow started carrying them on the push the playoffs. They were thinking about blowing the team. Up and selling everything We can't forget about that. They were really close to literally blowing if they if they had found good traits for like not sicom rhinos. Romeo see you'll has like they would've treated all those pieces so You know we gotta remember what we're working my thumb. You know the the predators. Gotta hope that elise told and philip sinoe. They had they have to messina now that they have a good years. It's your turn. it's tops exports. But you know you can't really bank on that we also still have the duchenne in the johansen contracts so those are pretty rough Yeah i i don't. I don't think they did anything to improve. And they were already borderline last year. So i don't think that they're going to be passed some place. Yeah so i mean. I have just tap at higher. Not the ruin anything This is maybe countries to you the wild here seven. I have the wild. They're still very young for me personally. They're super talented. A lot of future stars. I mean if you sign him Seriously pains me putting them this low considering the star power that they do possess It's just with the way that these other teams look in this division. And you know the. I don't want to say the the level of like plays so much better but it's like the what am i looking for the The knowledge the knowledge of the players. They're just i just. Don't think the wilder there to compete yet. win on a lucky win last season. And i don't know. I just i don't see them doing well and also they're very weakened net Whom i don't think that's true. Who do they have ken. Talbot cabot kotkin cam talbot. I don't really like. I mean i could be wrong. Obviously i'm not too familiar with all these like i mentioned earlier but cam talbot. I'm not really too hot. On cockatiel big cock hakkinen as he was referred to last season he's great. it's just i don't know. Is he the starter. I don't think so. So it's like i don't know i just don't think they're there yet. I think that they can easily slide up especially if they play hot especially with all the youngsters. Like i keep mentioning but it's it's not there for me so you got six buddy Six place i have on living Are the dallas stars. You know. I think they have a good decor But i believe they're getting a little bit older in the they're not getting too much better especially in this tight division I'm not sold on them. They're they're aging again. Like i said if bishop ever comes back from his injury. I don't know if you'll be seeing level that he was before his injury. You know rupa heinsohn Jason robertson promising. But after that. I don't really think they're too much. Hopefully tyler sagan is back in healthy jamie ben. Maybe but you know. I may be being pessimistic but right now could open hobie. Can't carry them far Though this is where the division gets super tight and or their lines are here. I mean shit fucked up again. Rupa heintz jason robertson. I think show except back. I don't like their bottom six really so it's better. This was their fourth on. I don't like The great got ryan cedar which is nice and again s. lyndale jon greenberg. I think they have a solid four but not. I'm not convinced about all right. I mean that's sussman. I would say a team that i was definitely hot on earlier. Originally when i was slotting everybody in. I like just plugged them in one by one and i had this team as like a bubble playoff team just making. It was even telling you not to spoilers to you. But i was like dude. I think team sick. I had him slide a lot. The blackhawks have the mess. Six now accu out of it. Well no you didn't talk you okay. Maybe you gave me a little bit of clarity. But i think them like second. Well yes so originally. I had them up there. Like i said they were the first thing. Nice lot slotted actually or second. Because that obviously i think we all we one best division so yeah originally had him at two day slit so far because like i just started like sitting. You're actually looking at all the other teams. 'cause like i was rushing before i was worried about the draft and i was like damn maybe maybe they are there. Yeah i mean. I think tastes comeback. That's huge marc. Andre fleury in net. He's gonna steal games for them again. I have him so much higher. I really think they can. I really think they can go much higher than six. I really don't feel too hot about many of these teams But i have to put them six. Unfortunately again how. I felt bad about the wild. I almost feel bad about the blackhawks. Because i just think this team superheroes i feel like flurry is like decision maker for me. That they're going to be a little bit better Just unfortunate how to put them so little pro. Daily face off makes my computer labs so fucking bad or if you have chrome it's multiple tabs fuck you up tabs chromebook so So fifth-placed team. That i have as minnesota wild. I think they went wild. Went wild for cap cap resolve last year. He's you know he's turned the team from a persistent mediocrity into teen. That's worth washing. I think they're going to decline a little bit from there. They're in a little bit from grace Especially with the top. The division top four teams that i have. I hope i'm proven wrong. But i mean you know. They have a good defensive structures similar to the stars. Either a little bit higher. Because i think that Gonna play a little bit better. Capris off is going to keep getting just tablet better. I think greenlee is gonna get better. I you know. I mean they have matthew bully coming in so i mean i don't know i also like Ryan hartman on the team. So i think they got. They got. I think they have good depth with them. You know so..

"The nights all of a sudden everything's okay. They can score. They have three goals. You know we can. We can be talbot and now. It's like it's flurry in the wild head. So i it's just funny. How within a series in with within one game everything seems flip like that. Yeah is absolutely crazy. The momentum swings that just happened both within games than within syria. So we'll have to see obviously where this ends up taking us but it is notable that at least the first two games the wild only two goals scored by their top line which is left your greenway center. You'll eric's enact in right-wing casino. We already mentioned so the wilds kind of primary skill fritz which would be a croak resolve. Who is you know. We likely calder. Trophy winner for rookie of the year. He doesn't have a point. So far this series. He has five shots on goal. And then kevin fiala was for twenty goals for the. Wow this year also doesn't have. He was incredible tonight in terms of generating opportunities but he just hasn't finished any yet on. I think we have touched on Over go back to the knights offensive struggles a little bit. Because that i think was a key question and the end of the playoffs. Myth certainly was not a lot of people's minds ending out of game one. Which is is this team going to be able to score when team sell out to stop them in the playoffs in sell out to stop their rush. Chances which we've really seen awhile. Do the knights have not been able to pick up a lot of speed through the neutral alone and kind of create off the rush so far and that's one of the reasons especially in game one that they weren't able to come up with a goal as everyone that is listed as podcasts. I'm sure knows offense was be main reason. That the ninth lost in the postseason. Last year they had a really good round robin good first-round series against the chicago blackhawks and they had a really good first four games in the second round series against the vancouver canucks and a goaltender name go into the picture and all of a sudden the nice stop scoring ran into a really hot goaltender. And they've kinda committed a you know in the about not quite a year. You know eight ish nine months that you know them cool really gotten their head in it bother them and they weren't able to recover in that kind of led into their next series against the dallas stars and that's ultimately where they lost in five games. They scored only a goals in those five games against the stars in. Sorry go on to the stanley cup final. And they lost to the tampa bay. Lightning now forcing game one on sunday. It seemed like it was more of the same. purple naturally. weren't able to generate a lot especially after the first period where they came out really. Well cam talbot shut the door on them and then from there. The nights seem to get a little bit rattled. Nuclear plants l. talking to them before the game today and then have at practice day yesterday that you know. They knew that they needed to score a goal. And then as you mentioned the finally he wild goal up one nothing actually in the game today and i think everyone in the building once that happens in the second period probably thinking in the back of their heads. Oh it's one nothing that might be enough for the wild to win this game. Well in all wilder to the series in the series point back to minnesota where the nights that everyone in regulation you know this is really bad. Well takes eighteen seconds after the goals will people have scarcely to kind of hong dot and jonathan marchessault goes down the other way beats talbot top. It's tied one one. All the crowd is in it for you know not the first time because the problem is very amp up it against but you know i really feel that energy and you feel that airasia plead onto the ice in terms of the nights that had a couple good shifts after that you mentioned pizza. Hannah said you know it was a weight off our shoulders He also mentioned how he thought. The team was actually playing tentative early in this game which i think is very interesting. You know any also brought up. You know you sense that they were a different team. Once they got that i will. How much do you think that breakthrough meant to the team. At how much could mean going forward here. I mean is it too much. Call it a season saver. i. I don't know it's early so serious Maybe it's hyperbole. Maybe not. I mean i was trying to as you're talking trying to think back to other playoff series and you know a goal that turned everything a goal that the knights sort of needed because this one just felt more than anything like it just needed it it. It's that i mean it's such a cliche but you know the dam breaking and all that but you could feel the tension in that building and and even before the wild scored just a longer that it stayed zero zero and jonathan marchessault like talking about. He made declaration. Basically you know after the morning skate that they needed to play in front. They needed the lead after the first period and they didn't get it and not only did they not get it. They got pretty badly outplayed in the first period. So psychologically that had to be a blow to them you know that they said a big goal they verbalize it and aiding come close to achieving it. The good thing for him was marc. Andre fleury kept at zero zero and sort of as we talked about a few minutes ago. They were able to saddle in and you know sort of do what the weilded by handbag gone any longer at one nothing and the anxiety continued to build and the murmurs you to rumble throughout t mobile arena and everybody could feel it is when we were walking out. I told you it felt like sap center if felt like the sharks building. And the reason. I say that is because when i lived up there and i used to go to games event covering games that fan base in that building. Has this very weird nervous energy that they're always expecting something bad to happen and they just you know no matter what you know the the worst the past mystic and all that it's very interesting they just don't seem to feel comfortable in a zero zero game the fans team and all that so for that to have gone eighteen seconds at one nothing and for them to everybody. Just go okay. It's fine we can do this. It was huge. "This toronto in the series bruce. I think so and it's more a couple angles one. I just montreal did not impress me at all with the coaching change. Didn't have the desire to attack there. I thought they pulled the flag to click on club julianne and dominik. Sharma nothing re. They didn't improve any. They're just in the playoffs because calgary and and vancouver ottawa worse As far as the leafs go maybe they just need to beat somebody and this sorta reminds in the playoffs certain minds me the washington nationals a couple years ago and and they'll be rick they you know fallen short. Get out of the playoffs. They just had to win series. They won that wild card game against the brewers and that triggered something and they ended up in the world series. So maybe ultra needs to get woman is to beat somebody in the playoffs. And i think they take care of the canadians baby quickly. Also in canada you get the oilers and the chats and We talked about how the jets they didn't end their season on fire. And to me it just seems like well mcdavid and dreidel edmonton will win that but it is a two and a three so Should i write off the jet so quickly maybe on a few people That i respect in around the league seem to think when pig has a chance here although you know their late season form was not good. That always that doesn't always carry over into the playoffs and vice versa. Hot teams at the end. Sometimes it doesn't carry through and that might be nationals example on that series of games. But i i think evan probably has the edge here as long as the goaltending is okay. That was sort of the question coming into the season and then they got much better work than they were hoping for from coskun and especially makes it so i think probably junior here And edmonton toronto series. You know awesome matthews versus mcdavid. That would be kind of interesting. Up in the northeast. We'd get that in the next month. Wild wild west avalanche already over the blues. No surprise there kind of see it go on the rest of the way that way. I think although the blues her hanging around that game last night at once they got to know one there they just they just been breakthrough and then colorado scored a couple of times late mccain. Looks like he's healthy again. grew our interesting He will be in the vezina conversation. He looked very good in the opening game Colorado to me looks like the most solid team. The league i think getting the top seed in the west beating golden knights in that game last week to get the top effectively position when the topsy that momentum is gonna carry through saint louis looks like they're in some trouble to me with serious and finally very surprising the wild and a came that was co completely bereft of scoring. They win at one. nothing over. you're not. I say your nights as a vegas guy Is this a one offer. Do you think the wild can build on this. I think the golden knights are in trouble. And i would point out. You know in the regular season against the bottom. Four in the west arizona san jose which the knights beat every eight elegant games deduction kings the golden knights were twenty eight. Four against those four None of them are in the playoffs. I mean they were they did not dominate the upper four the other three in the division in fact they have now lost sixty nine the wild. You might be kryptonite for the golden knights. I don't know that this team has that extra something to win it. All and I this this is the matchup that flusters them and all of that traffic in front of the net if cam talbot and keep playing like the way he did in game on i actually think minnesota go win. The series would not be surprised if that happens while that is huge right What is going on with the gold sheet lately. Yeah boy we're stanley cup playoffs or excited about that ticks. Every day basketball. And we're gonna keep writing up these. Nba playoff games every gold sheet basketball and that starts tonight baseball. Got a little bit of soccer to some good games coming up rick. The euros i guess in the summer so it's always busy. Gold sheet dot com. I picture they're they're also.

"This must have had a A year of blunders in fantasy, baseball, just little dumb mistakes. And then I think about it, I go, Mike. What are you doing? How can you not be sharper than that? And then it makes sense. Because I'm not really following baseball. So I kind of get it. I feel like I'm somebody who would make mistakes this year in fantasy baseball like here, so hopefully this makes sense. Devers of Boston is hurt. Do they not play yesterday? They must not have played yesterday on When I'm on my game. I would know that if they played, they played Texas yesterday, actually. No, they lost to Texas yesterday. No, no. Texas played Minnesota. OK, son, I'm thinking of Sunday. I'm sorry. They caught up with you. So you have like third base and then you have utility and what you want to do is you want to put the guy who's playing in third base? So then the next day Your guy, if like Devers is hurt. Visit utility. I can replace him with somebody who plays any position. As long as they didn't play yesterday, because, like the beginning of the week Right, But since I put him in, I put Machado at utility and I put Devers at third. I can't move Machado they played Could move Devers, but I'll have anybody to put in. Could've put Nixon's Ellen perhaps at utility or magical, but I'm stuck. That's the kind of thing that's how you lose. Yeah, that is that's the way you can lose. I'm I'm losing the fantasy hockey championship round on goaltending. My goaltending. It's a two week thing. So we're into the second week yesterday that so rather than just playing and change opponents every week because it's the playoffs. We're playing two weeks. On and I think I'm losing by, like more than 20. Maybe 22 23 points and I swear to God, All of it is negative goaltending points on my team. Like I just got minuses. All all over the place you have every every night. No, I ditched him because he was falling apart. I grab Cam Talbot. That's not working. Mr. King got roasted yesterday. I just had a tough run. You can't win in the playoffs for the gold. You can't do it. And my opponent got like one like that. That 20 point gap that there is now he got like a shutout and the nine pointer from another guy in one in one night, he got like 20. Only points and that's the cushion he's got. That's it the rest of it the world just slugging it out. But he's got a 20 point cushion built on 20 points and goaltending on one night and my minus I'm probably like a minus 20 on goaltending, and I'm still not that far behind despite that, but big swing. Yeah, looking all the goals that were scored last night. You know your timing's bad. Or the other guys is good, because if he has good goalie points, the scores would they make the Nets bigger? Yesterday 54637 to 5 to 65. 5354 Salami. You had the only kind of grand salami 81 a half always. But the under if we would've lost, I guess. Sabers had 40 shots on goal. Four goals against the Islanders. Right. Four on 40 against the Islanders. What's going on? They switched to four on four came back from two goals down against the Islanders. That's not supposed to be able to happen. Mm. Well, they don't beat everybody. You said it yesterday. The Islanders. You know, they might be coasting here. They should be. If they're smart, they would bench all they're good players. Their game We talked about yesterday is digging in and like, you know, making the game ugly. And you know if you're coasting, maybe you're not digging in Maybe. Been sabers are, though. Did you consider that maybe the sabers Air Duggan right now could be yeah. So I had football in mind. But since we brought up hockey here The I have two pages up on my computer from cap friendly. One is goalies ranked. It's not whatever I could change it. But like active goalies and their salaries. And the other is free. Agent goalies to Buf phase to be. Tell me what you like. I'll go to. I don't have an answer in mind yet, But you guys like what should they do? So Season's almost over. Everybody is going to be on restricted except for Lou Cannon and tocar ski who are you know looking, and it's so young, and I think ideally, he's not on the team. Maybe he is like, maybe he just is spectacular and is on the team. But you're not planning on it. If you're the sabers, right, you're not really shouldn't be planning on it. I'd love to know how seriously he's hurt. They didn't need lab will be no, not at all other than he's out for the rest of this year. But that could be. I mean, if it's like a CL or something, which is possible with the way he was injured. Mean the starting next season? What might be in question, even for him, But we don't know. They didn't say. I guess they don't have to. So they didn't. I don't know, but, um, that mate makes him a little complicated, but I don't want him in the plans anyways. Because I think if they end up with him here Next year is because they couldn't find their way to a I think a better idea. Okay, so that's what I want to strive for here. Let's try for a better idea because there should be one. But it's not not easy either. Tocar ski is also under contract for like 700,000, and you know if if you need somebody, you have him, But he's expansion draft daughter, I think is what he is. But okay, I'll get picked. He still might be here anyway. That's right. Hallmark is up. 2.6 hunting is up, not interested. Um Hauser. No. All Mark is up at 2.6. So we've talked about this a little bit. You like him for, like, sort of being is in position for a better contract, And maybe he gets one or probably. If he goes to free agency, you know. Who is it right for this injury for him? Is like.

"Probably still got that excellent. Excellent blue line That i think is just really good and potentially even underrated the goaltending. Like you mentioned has been a problem for them. But they got a cam. Talbot from the calgary flames this offseason. And while i certainly don't think he's any sort of a savior as no trophy candidate. I think just having potentially competence for them back there with how good that defensives could be very very good for them and then upfront as you interested. They're not as humidity center depth. Chart might be one of the worst in the nhl. They've just got nothing down the middle. But i think they've got some good wingers. They've got a career caprice off whose name i'm probably mispronouncing. But he's a russian winger who after a very long saga came over to the nhl this year all his comparables in terms of kind of his statistics in russia compared to some of the better players that have come over from there to play in the nhl like vladimir tarasenko. So he's i think on the shortlist of calder trophy favorites for top rookie. They've got another really good wing in a kevin fiala. Certainly don't think the wild are a great team. But i think they're an average one and in this division. Being averaged means that. I will take your over project to make the playoffs. Okay you convince me. I was gonna i was thinking about i was like i can't pick them over because i feel like maybe the sharks are better now. Okay are you got me okay. I'll go over with with minnesota. Glad i could talk you into that done. Good good sell job. Like i said. I don't even feel like. I feel strongly that they're an average team. Which like i said in this division is good but if they were in a different division. I think we'd be talking about them very differently. But the next three teams that we're going to talk about. I think we'd be excited to talk about a no matter. What division they were in next up st louis there over under is sixty nine and a half which is a one point five point pace in a normal regular season that is tied for the fifth highest total with the toronto maple leafs so ben line is very high on the st louis blues for those on aware they lost a very good defensemen. This off season alex patricia angelo. They replaced him with tori crude from the boston. Bruins kind of a nifty one for one swap there They also lost their backup. Goaltender jake allan this offseason. He's now a montreal. Canadian replaced him with the villa. Who so from Their age l. team and then they also added. Mike hoffman. Who is kind of a goal scoring winger was with florida. Panthers doesn't play a lot of defense but can fill the net and should probably help out their power play. Data's the team that won the stanley cup seasons ago and then got bounced out of the first round of the bubble last year. But this seems to be a pretty pretty high total for them does it does seem a little bit high but i go over on them just because i think again as we sort of talked about i think it's going to be top heavy division. I think they're gonna feast on the bottom. And i think that they that they brought in fill some of the holes for the most part you know tori crew is not necessarily like for like replacement in terms of oxfordshire angelo..

"Number five number five. I'm not too happy with them. Being here to be honest. But i had the ducks i don't i haven't done anything to really make them a playoff team. I don't think kesslers out. He's done then gibson is he their number one goaltender john gibson. I don't know i. There's nothing on this team that i really like. I don't really have much to say about them. Especially with that being on the west. But from what i could see. I don't see them making the playoffs. Especially without how disappointing. Their season was last year to five hundred team. They're not gonna do anything again. Okay all right so who. My number five is the wild. So i think. I think zachary's is gonna take back bay step back. I think cam talbot won't play as well as he has. I don't think nick no. I don't think nick benigno is What's called i'm sorry. I don't think nick bananas can be able to step up on the same I think they're really just going to have kevin fiala on offense You know people are banking on krill. Cappers of or correal krill correal rookie But he's not the rookie that you wanna bet on you. Know they're top for is still solid but other than that you know. I mean i think they could make plays push cam talbot says on level but i mean i mean. He played on a pretty decent calgary team. You know And i don. Who had offense support. And i don't really think that minnesota has the offensive support to match that. I can see what you're saying. Plus the affiliate should play like shit against the knox in the play in round so But yes i them at five. I mean five and four interchangeable from me. But but i do think that they're not interchangeable. But i think i have minnesota actually at number four because i think the addition of can't tell but it's actually great for them He definitely had one of his better seasons last year or at least on the come back to where he used to be..
