Is Cam Newton Ready to be Patriots Quarterback?
"The biggest question of all and of course, I'm talking about Cam Newton Cam Newton ready to be the quarterback for this team or false pause, as of today. It's false and I wrote a column this weekend for Boston Sports Journal, that basically laid out and I'm talking to different people both around the team and also around the league about where Cam is and there's three things that need to go on Nick and it needs to go on now and it needs to go on every day off of the day until the season kicks off and number one. It's cam has to lose weight. He can't he can't play a 250 anymore. He's not a young buck. We saw dead. You know, I thought this but it was confirmed by a couple of NFL people that I I talked to and I trust they said that cams legs got heavier as the season went on and off and run as much he wasn't as a as Elusive and the big thing is not only that but your legs are everything when you throw the ball, if you don't have your legs which you did earlier in the season, they threw the ball a little bit better. If you don't have your legs then you have nothing as far as power and things like that and also just accuracy if you don't have your legs then you have to compensate upper body and things just get all out of whack and that's what happened. When cam last year. So in cam I will give him credit on the I am athlete podcast. He did say, I think he was trying to lose ten pounds. I'd go less. I think he needs to get to 3235. I think that gives them a better chance to be sustainable. He doesn't he doesn't need to be 2:50 to run over linebackers anymore. There aren't that many linebackers that are 2:50 a.m. Should be in a business and his age are going to be 32 a plow on those guys over. So there's that there is he has to get into he he has a he has to get with her own coach. I hope he's working with one but he better be working on one that works on his mechanics all the time every day. Get back to where he was at the beginning of last season get it out of her system because he needs to learn how to just be able to flick the ball. Ten yards instead of making a whole body convulsion just to get the ball out in the last thing is the biggest thing Nick and we've talked about it. I thought is he needs he needs Express 24-hour premium tutoring on the Patriots Playbook and what goes on as far as all right. If the defense does this then I can change to this and what's my audible what's my check because I know everybody's all excited about Johnny Smith and Hunter Henry and you know, we you can also factor in The athletic fullbacks that they've wanted to have for two years. Dan Vitality is coming back supposedly and also they dropped adult and Keen to play that position because there's a choice that they want to be more like the 49ers with use checked. And so it's all nice and dandy that they have two tight ends and athletic fullback and people are absolutely right to say that benefit of that is you get match up issues where all right, if it's safety then we're just going to run over them if their linebackers then we're just going to run past them. We're going to throw the ball. That is great and all but it doesn't mean Jack if you don't have a quarterback who can't see the defense see what's going on check to the right play and take advantage of the defense and last year cam wasn't even close to that. So unless all those things happen and he's not there at this point. He is not ready to be the starting quarterback for the for the Patriots. Do I think he can get there and be better? Yeah, but we'll have to see.

"Again for for a guy who came out of For what he's able to accomplish coming out of can't state I have a 12 year run. Multiple titles. And one of the more iconic catches that we will meet its He's in Super Bowl Lord. Absolutely now. I mean, that's that's Joe. Name with waving the finger. I mean, you know David Tyree David tight going down the list, man. I mean, No. The feed from me like that, you know, in the back corner of the end zone, we go on down to the John Elway helicopter. Yep. Me good call on that one. All all of those moments. There you see, leading up to a Super Bowl, You're going to see that Julian element diving, remarkable catch that he keeps off the ground, maintains possession that leads to a game winning score. That is It's iconic, and it will be as it it's in Patriot. Lauren to your point. He's not a Hall of Famer. But, hey, he could easily see him being in the Patriot Ring of Honor. Leroy Jordan is one of the best linebackers that has ever played the game. He's not in Cannes, but he's in the Cowboys Ring of honor. He should be in the can the whole of it. I don't disagree, but he's not. And to your point. Just because you're a great player for a franchise. Sam Mills. New Orleans, you know, doesn't mean that just because you're not Hall of Fame worthy doesn't mean you weren't a Hall of Famer to that franchise, and then that that's what Julian Element Woz. The Patriots will. The Hall of Fame is still there when it comes to doorbell a check and he's going to some interesting decisions to make, especially that quarterback position. We know he brought back Cam Newton. If he meets all the incentives, he could get $14 million. Bill Belichick may have to do something that he does not want to do. There's a team out there Number four called the Atlanta Falcons. That could be very interesting and trading out of that spot, because if they're not going to take a quarterback And I still don't think they should trade out of that spot. Anyway. I still be Matt Ryan has something left. But if you're not going to stay in that spot that you trade out of it, the page could be a perfect partner because Bill Belichick whether he likes it or not. The quarterback that you need in my opinion is not in your roster right now, especially when it comes to the future. He may have to think about trading up, maybe not as high as four. But at least think about especially when he's going to go see Justin Fields, the Ohio State quarterback at his second pro day Trading up would be so out of character for Bella checked because normally goes the other way. That's trading back. Yep, they've got Six pics. The first four rounds. So they do have some ammunition this year alone. But, Freddie, I don't I don't see him coming out of character and moving all the way up from 15 to 4. I think you should if a guy is there that he likes and made me to sit a year. Trade Lance you like Mahomes did behind Alex Smith. Does Lance come in and sit behind Cam Newton for a year? I could see them maybe moving up to eight. It's still out of character because Carolina's got their guy down, Sam Donald and if if quarterback do you really like, say a tray? Lance does drop to eight. Does that make New England? Okay, We're not having to go all the way up to four. It's gonna be a little more. You know, palatable. Yeah. I could see that happy about it. I'll give you a team and no one's talking about that the Patriots might be having to deal with also, Who's that? It's the NFC East. That's the Washington football team because quarterback What I mean like a temp possibly mean I think that could be a team that no one's really talking about right now that if a train Lance does slide that same spot at eight, Carolina could be looking to deal out because you do have Sam Donald. You could get back some of the assets you had to give away, even though it wasn't that much to get him, right. Okay, but the Washington football team could be a squad that Yeah, again. I think Lance ask the city year. Nothing. The potential is tremendous. That's another team at keeping island. The one problem not with that is here's the problem. They're doing the page in the quarterback position they got a Bill Belichick really wants is Jimmy Garoppolo San Francisco on he's like I That's funny, because it's true. I had him and he was gonna be the heir apparent. When I finally moved off of Tom Brady in time Brain Robert Kraft got together and next, you know Jimmy Garoppolo on his way to the West Coast, but that's the guy that's the quarterback. He would really love the half. That he's not going to get a New England Nope. And that's why you're also looking at names like Kyle Trask. Davis Mills out of Stanford. Kill him on Texas. Damn! Those are some of the other options that you do have As far as developing a quarterback. We'll see either way..
What Will Green Bay Do With Aaron Rodgers' Contract?
"Head of the green bay. Packers reportedly busy busy bees working on restructuring erasers contract free some face cricket so far in free agency for them. But you guys know. That's nothing new green bay brandon marshall. Air rodgers contract situation is blank. Well i got lazy. And i just went with vital. I went vital. Because you know this guy can free up a lotta money. Yeah i mean can free up a lot of money and then you can go out and get somebody you can go out and get you know maybe a casey hayward's maybe a melvin ingram. Somebody can go on and deep inside and help you out yes. One hundred percents started their green and it was it was nickel wasn't good. He got better as he went on. We used to crush them cock. But anyways i wanted to say vital naked. But what are they going to do with the money. What are they going to get a backup. Quarterback can't help you now. What are they going to do. Go get a third stream offense alignment they every offseason. Keep this whole deal in free agency. And then what they're going to do.

"So open a school slammed up Brian Wilson. Then you're on the clock At nine. We talked about quarterback at four. Falcons moved back Trey Lance is still available. The Falcons have to go Trey Lance here or did they go someone else? So this is interesting. So they got the draft capital. They traded down What they want to see the here if you're rolling with With Matt Ryan and your role in that, Ryan. So So what does that mean? One thing? It means the defense thinks, and that's been part of the issue that you could go off blind here with her science later. Um, if you wanted to is that too early? I don't think so. I think he's gonna be a special talent. But what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna make this defense better. And I'm going with Michael Parsons out of Penn State, um, opted out last year in my mind in the top five talent. Ofall linebacker and historically, you don't put those guys that high. But the last 567 years, we've seen sort of the evolution of the athletic ofall linebacker coming to play. And if you have a guy that can do everything, and Michael Parsons could do everything I think you put him on the field and let him do that. Devon White's The most recent example had a fantastic Super Bowl, the former top five pick for the For the Buccaneers. That same draft years ago, The city was traded from 20 to 10 to get Devin Bush. So that's this isn't to live for Michael Parsons in my mind, and you have the draft capital and you have Matt Ryan. Now they'll make the defense better. Do you think more than one player in the top 10 defensive player, but we'll go in this draft. No, And that's a great point. Because of the millions of mock drafts I've done. There's been a run on offensive players started quarterback of course, and you can have forego so as we did in this mock draft here. We're going to tide in and in pits of me off the tackles me the wide receivers, and then you get around to getting and it could be the case that Michael Parsons 19, the first player of the board, it could be a cornerback, not helping Caleb Farley that might never one cornerback head back, have back procedure a few weeks ago, so he's actually They're saying he slips a little bit to the bottom of the first round. I've been on teams still about him. So Patterson Tan could end up being the first deep to play off the board. I don't think we see addresses go off until no earlier than Probably 14. Maybe a little early member. I think, 14 the high seas interest dancers in this class where there is no Nick Bo surgery. Both there are Chase show cowboys have to go defense, right. But with this 10 pick Patrick's or 10 or JC Horn, that that's kind of it. It seems that all the mock drafts or saying a tent Yeah, I love both. Those players. Um JC Horn is is not secretly but he is sort of been lost in the conversation was killed, probably in Pakistan, but he is either girl man. Joe Horn son. He's 61. Is extremely physical. He plays the ball well on, he could end up actually being ah, more complete pass a cornerback Patrick or Tan, but certain has certainly has the pedigrees. Dad played forever and then he is so extremely polished. The only monkey wrench I would throw into this. Maybe they think about Officer tackle like someone Look for Shawn Slater here. Like I said, it's too high, probably for edge rusher and what they love someone that we don't know about, but either Or Shaun's later or if they love Christian dare saw. I could certainly see that but a much bigger need. I think you're exactly right Cornerback makes sense your tent now before I make my pick. I do think it's compelling that Trey Lance is on the board. Something for quarterbacks will go in the top 10. Others think That it's going to be five. Now. The Cowboys wouldn't be taken Trey Lance, if that gets that scenario, Lance is available at 10. You think the Cowboys could trade the pick there? Yes, And that would actually be really good. The best case scenario for the Cowboys really is a really good case scenario for Cowboys traded Let me ton of team starting in 15 with the Patriots. Then you have 19 with Washington 20 with the Bears. 24 steals 28 With Saints all those teased a quarterback. You get to 10, and you can trade down to the middle or the bottom Third of the first round. You get an edge rusher. That's right around the landing site for entrusting you can still get a really good cornerback. Whether it's a Greg Newsome out of out of Northwestern, whether it's a Tyson Campbell, who I'm hiring the most people out of Georgia, whoever might end up being a something similar for state and get some draft picks to continue to bolster that defense. That I'm sure that's something the Cowboys will be monitoring and I'm sure they'll be teams calling it 10 of trade land sitting there on the board of 10, because the thing let's say Lance is the upside is through the roof. Crazy just did that. The present day stuff is that we don't know how good you can be. He's played 17 games on the FCS schedule and didn't play it all last year for one sort of random game. So there a lot of questions but attend. It feels like a prime place to go to try to go get him. Brian Wilson did it. The Patriots rather trade for Jimmy Garoppolo or trade to 10 here to go get Trey Lance. That is a fantastic question. I'm not big on Jimmy Garoppolo. Some other people are like people say, Well, Mack Jones is space with Jimmy. Now he's not. He's actually part of Virginia Garoppolo, because if you weren't They want to trade up to three. Try to get a quarterback who appears to be match down Number one Number two. He's injured all the time. So that if the pages Okay with the injuries, the injury history at least then maybe that they're willing to do that. I'm not giving up more than a second round pick. And maybe even just a third rounder for Jimmy G. Sam Journal only got a second change. So maybe they like Trey Lance, you roll of Cam Newton for year and then you have train lands going forward because he has a chance. T be special. He does a lot of things really? Well, just a matter of how quickly can you get up to speed going from FCS competition, too?.
Top 10 players signed by Patriots
"Talk about the Patriots. The the Patriots grabbed everybody's attention by making move after move after move after move. Like we're watching it over agency going off. How many people are going to bring in its kind of unbelievable how many starters they've added? And so I count they added ten players that I think are very very significant to their team next year. In fact, I would say pretty clearly the Patriots are back and a lot of people saw this coming, you know, but they are going to be a force in the NFL next year here is my list my nerdy list of the ten players the top players. They added that are very significant to their roster next year. The first two are massive. It will reshape the entire Patriots offense. They added two tight ends Johnny Smith and Ed Hunter Henry. To Johnny Smith signed from Tennessee. He signed a four year deal worth up to fifty million dollars. That's Thirty one point two five million dollars guaranteed and he's only twenty-four years old. So that's Monday. That's a really gigantic Marquis franchise player. He cited the reason why it came to New England is cuz he loves Bill Belichick. He's got great respect for him. And I want to point out of all the everybody I'm about to talk about these shows to be in New England Bill Belichick got his kind of guys who sought out New England wanted to be there and wanted to work hard and win a Superbowl. I think it matters. It's very very exciting. These are not with Josh Gordon's or what's the other example Phillip Dorsett who they made a move for and they're not really like that. You think they fit they don't work out know. These are guys who all chose to be in New England who wanted to win a Superbowl. I really want to win a Superbowl. These guys went out of their way to be New England now the other tight and they brought in With twenty-six-year-old tight end Hunter Henry from the LA Chargers got a three-year deal twenty-five million dollars guaranteed. It's worth up to thirty seven point five million dollars total if he meets all those incentives. They also added two wide receivers the Patriots brought in Nelson agholor to a you got a two year twenty six million dollar contract East twelve years old. Now a lot of people do not like this move and I I get it Nelson agholor is not the most flashy player in the NFL but I think if it's very well with Cam Newton, he's good at he's not going up and getting the ball. He's got good hands did some stuff of the Raiders that I think deserves your attention go watch what he did with the Raiders and I just I'm like, huh a lot of good plays. Okay. I understand. I see the potential Bill Belichick and the Patriots would see and Nelson agholor go will give the guy a good contract, especially considering the Patriots have like our desolate at wide receiver. They need help. They got home. Who is awesome but he can't do everything by himself from the slot. They have n'keal Harry who n'keal Harry. I I think he's going to pop. I think he's going to progress and keep getting better. But she's not a number one right now. So on top of the page where it's also added Kendrick Bourne guy from my local area actually went to Eastern Washington University 25 years old. He's coming from the San Francisco 49ers. He got a three year deal worth twenty two point five million dollars. Now another thing the Patriots did they also added they signed Center Ted carriages and they traded for tackle Trent Brown. So this is the new Patriots offense right now. They've receivers Nelson agholor, Julian Edelman Kendrick born and kill hair is its own nuclear Aguilera. I'm doing my best. It's a hard game to say. They also have Sony Michelle running backs for any receivers Sony Michelle at running back and improved offensive line. Cam Newton at quarterback who I get why people doubt Cam? He's a former NFL MVP and with when you put cams Talent with a lot of weapons including two outstanding tight ends Hunter Henry Smith, right man. I'll tell you what I look at the Patriots offense and think two things immediately number one. Everything is going to run through their brand new Titans. Their entire offense now is probably going to drive down the seams of the field right up the middle. They're going to use our tents heavily lot of play-action again. I am scheme wise things will look a lot like the page words did back in the day when they had drunk and Aaron Hernandez together to start tight ends. Now number two. I feel very very confident with Cam Newton as the Patriots quarterback and it surprised me but I want to remind you that two years ago. Tom Brady was the page word starting quarterback and did basically nothing and the reason was there were no weapons there. He kept running into the same brick wall. His receivers weren't good enough. So, how can I think you and I would both agree. I like Cam Newton Tom Brady's a better quarterback than Cam Newton. So my point is if Tom Brady couldn't make it work with New England's roster. How was Cam Newton supposed to succeed? He was set up to fail will now Cam Newton's being given weapons is being set up to do. Well, I'm excited man. He's a former NFL MVP, he's hungry. I I personally believe Cam Newton's going to have an awesome year and it really is going to make extended one-year deal with like it was like three and a half million dollars with a bunch of incentives. I honestly think we're gonna look back at his contract at the end of next year and go. Can you believe the deal they got on Camden he played so well for no money. I really think he's he's a guy who can didn't play well enough wage. Last year to earn a new gigantic contract. So he's going to have to show what he can do this year and maybe earn more money next year but I think cam is poised to do very very well and make a lot of money and win a lot of games in New England

"Two NFL star. Absolutely. He was a star when he was in his prime. He's in Fitzsimmons hit him on Twitter, Infants, ESPN on Freddie Coleman and me on Twitter, Koman, ESPN, part of Freddie and Fitz Simmons, on ESPN radio. The ESPN happened except Channel eight. I'm going to go back to something you said about Bill Bella check. Waiting for somebody that stood the fall to him at number 15. One problem that Bill Belichick has right now that he's hoping will fall into his lap again is the most important position in sports. And that is the quarterback position. You and I don't believe in coincidences. It is no coincidence that the New England Patriots are going to be there for the second pro day when it comes to your house, a quarterback and Justin Fields in my opinion, not based on what you said, but it kind of turned me that way. Maybe made a right turn that way. Bill Bill Itek trading back If he wants that guy that he's going to need a quarterback because right now it does not have it on his roster. When it comes to Camp noon and Jared Stick him, Billy Belichick may have to do something he does not want to do. And thats trade up to get a quarterback and the Atlanta Falcons could be prime at number four to do such a thing, because right now he needs a young potential playmaker. That will be better under him. And it will be better than what he has now hoping that Cam Newton can be whatever hoping the judge set of Canby better than a backup quarterback right now for the Patriots. Or or there's a third eye like this is the third. You wait, you evaluate, and I'm sure they have placed that would hope they have Guys like Kyle Trask out of Florida. A kill in mind. That van is Davis Mills out of Stanford. Absolute vine. They maybe they may see something in one of those guys. You know, I don't have toe To move up when they have needs at so many other positions, even though they aren't getting guys like, you know, high tower back on and on the eight opt out to the defense of side the ball in the form of guys that got me all season to a tight end into a wide receiver. Pote load Cashman and free agency, but they may just be waiting on. They may have a guy that they're looking at in the 2nd 3rd round. You know, fourth round they make it say Hey. You can hit on this instead of having to move up when they're trying to acquire and keep his many assets they possibly can, but asking for another doing element of Tom Brady. That's asking for a lot. That's a me hoping that will happen again. He just got a hit on second rounders, third rounders. They have not really done that. That's true in the last four or five years. You look at that They had their at their draft their entire draft picks of the last 45 years. There are a lot more Mrs and I mean a lot more than they have hits to the point where Robert Kraft even addressed it. Just a couple of weeks ago, when your owner is is bringing we have to be better. No draft process. Yeah. Better be better and you draft process. Take a look. The Patriots, for example, to your point real quickly. 2000 of trying to get up here. 2016 Cyrus Jones. Jo threw me, Cooper said. Vincent Valentine, Malcolm Mitchell Commute Gregor. He'll land in Robert's Ted Caress devolution. 2017 Derek River. Those guys exactly. 2 2017, Derrick Rivers and 200 Garcia Dietrich Watch Junior economy, Dermot. 2018 Isaiah win. So any Michelle do Dawson? Juwan Bentley Draft. Not bad. Christian? Sam Braxton Barrios Now, Jet Danny reveling stud. Yeah, I'm being family. Chiana Crossing. Ryan is so 2019 the kill Harrick's doing for him. Joe Juan Williams Chase one of its not bad, Damon Harris. Not bad. Yonica juice. Hi, Algy. Fraud. Hold up. I got his name, right? Don't know if I did. Judge did him buying Coward Jake Bailey Kin Webster last year. Cal Duggar. Just Uta Anthony Jennings, Devon, a sassy Dalton keen Justin, while Glasser Michael in the We know Justin hair in cash, my Lula. Dustin would Like Dugger a lot. Okay. But you mean go over all of those man. I mean, you go back to what it was that three years ago. One of its Yeah, that's really it From that draft. Damian Harris has shown flashes every now and then, but not nearly what I thought they would be getting out of this. The third round pick out of Alabama. So they had to be better. There's no doubt about it and element get hitting on guys like Elman all would help make the Patriots Billy B. You may have to trade up in the drive to get that quarterback you need instead of waiting from the folly of 15, but we'll see what they do. Don't forget NFL draft on ESPN radio less than three weeks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, my man, Ian Fitzsimmons, I'll be part of that coverage. Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One
"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.

You know, I don't have toe move up when they have needs at so many other positions, even though they aren't getting guys like, you know, high tower back on, and the eight opt out to the defense of side of ball and the four guys that got me all season to a tight and into a wide receiver, Pope load Cashman and free agency. But they may just be waiting on. They may have a guy that they're looking at in the 2nd 3rd round, you know, fourth round they make it say Hey, You can hit on this instead of having to move up when they're trying to acquire and keep his many assets they possibly can, but asking for another doing element of Tom Brady. No, that's asking for a lot. That's I mean, hoping that will happen again. He just got a hit on second rounders, third rounders. They have not really done that. That's true in the last four or five years. You look at the DEA. They're at their draft their entire draft picks of the last 45 years. 2000 of that try to get up here. 2016 Cyrus Jones. One of its Yeah, that's really it From that draft. Damian Harris has shown flashes every now and then, but that nearly what I thought they would be getting out of a third round pick out of Alabama. So they have to be better. There's no doubt about it and element hitting on guys like gentleman would help make the Patriots Billy B. You may have to trade up in the drive to get that quarterback you need instead of weight from the folly of 15, but we'll see what they do. Don't forget NFL draft on ESPN radio. Cam Newton Re-Signing With Boston's Patriots: Making Sense Of The Move
"I do wanna move to the quarterback news today tony because bill ballot check and cam. Newton have apparently decided to run it back next season with the patriots agreeing to terms with newton on a one year. Deal with up to fourteen million dollars. Newton did struggle down the stretch famously. Last season tony. So does this move makes sense to you. It's so charitable that you'd say he struggled down the stretch. He struggled from the moment he got in there. He had twelve rushing touchdowns which is wonderful but he had eight passing touchdowns and ten interceptions. I want to get the stats right. Here he was. I mean he couldn't throw downfield. He was twenty eighth in passing rating and he was deadliest in yards per game. And so you asked me. Does it make sense. And i'm going to tell you declarative in affirmatively. It does make sense because he's a professional quarterback right and he took responsible. He was terrible last year. He couldn't throw it but he took responsibility after every loss. He said this is my fault. He was a leader. The other players revered him as a leader. The coaching staff loved him as leader. Belichick him. Personally the worst that can happen problem is that he becomes a backup. And would you trust your team to the backup cam newton after all these years. Yes you would. It does feel like the contract. You give to maybe charitably again. A high end. Backup tony because look the deal as it is six billion dollars again or wrapped up in incentives and honors and playoff achievement. So a lot of this really does hinge on how we actually plays in real time but the other thing about this. That clear is that this is just mr right now for bill belichick. This is not mr right. They're going to go and look around. And there is a phrase that i think of another piece of wisdom from someone else that by the way describes nothing about my own personal life or philosophies but you are as faithful as your options. What some wise men believe bill. Belichick is faithful to cam newton right now because there aren't options otherwise at that price but is it going to look at the draft and say. Can we get another quarterback absolutely. Oh he'll look at the draft. And maybe mack jones will be there and maybe trade lance will be there and he'll maybe everybody talks about him requiring jimmy garoppolo very when he's not having broken bones but he has broken bones a lot you. It is at the moment to marriage of convenience. But i will say three things. One cam had no training camp last year none too. He actually had toronto virus himself and might have been in a depleted physical condition. And three m. it's it's just hard for me to believe that he would be this bad again. I you know. I got to be a little bit better but again again. My point would be if you were stuck with cam. Newton that's like being stuck with twenty five other backups. This guy who was the mvp at one point and on muscle memory alone. He could probably make something happen. Maybe maybe i'm being naive about this. I don't
Fresh update on "cam newton" discussed on Nightcap with Ryan Gates
"Has 764 receptions Tatelman 6 20. Mold has 9995 yards to cattleman's 6800 molds has 49 touchdown. The Ottomans 36. Players with Mork career receiving yards and Julian Edelman, Jeremy Macklin. Nate Washington. Jarvis Landry, Michael Crabtree. Wayne Bo. Wayne Chrebet. Mike Wallace Golden Tate lover, Gnaeus Cole's T. J. Houshmandzadeh. I could go on and on and on and on because there's a lot of players with more receiving yards than Julian Edelman, if you can't tell Hall of Fame or my pet peeve. As you can probably tell by the tone of my voice. There my pet peeve. Standard for them is so much lower than where they should be. So much lower But it's not about in Hall of Fame. Have Become a business. They're no longer about honoring the best of the best. They're about. One. Being friendly to the players. And Not getting anybody mad at them if they can help it. And to making money. That's why I wouldn't discount the possibility Adelman actually gets in. I think it's absurd to think he's a Hall of Famer but is their chance he gets in No, it can't will care about. Does he make us money? Patriots fans come to this event. Well, Patriots fans flocked to Canton, Ohio, to see Julian Edelman get a gold jacket. And the answer to that is yes. Somehow some way about you, Adam and finds a way in And Will hide behind the rings. Happen with Eli Manning. Lie. Manning's going to make the Hall of Fame. He has two rings to Super Bowl MVPs. How about for the other 800 games he played Was he ever considered the best or one of the basket disposition? The answer to that is no, He was not. But Giants fans going to come in droves to Canton to see him make the Hall of Fame. Yeah, they are. That's why he's getting in. Those two reasons I can't see in all things. I don't mean I mean, come on. Jeremy Macklin. Was Jeremy Macklin ever even Decent. Was he ever a pro bowler? Maybe he had a couple of years in Philadelphia, where he was Holy cow. Just absurd. These Patriot fans right now It's it's they're less. It's the last time they're going to annoy us for a while. I feel though. You know, Adam is the last villain. Isn't while Bella check. Never mind. Bella Jack is still there and he's a guy we could hate. I'm kind of glad for that. You want a guy there? You could hate None of hating sports anymore. Where these rivals were my Chris kneels. So got Bella check, but all the players have gone Brady and Rocker in Tampa at Ullman's Gone If anybody else I guess the fund Gilmore still there for US Bills fans at least That woman's gone. He was a dirty player. He was completely overrated because of who was quarterback was in the lack of targets around him. He was good. He was a very good player. Very good. Shouldn't get you near a gold jacket. Near it. It does make you think about the future for New England. I was thinking he would come back this year and be their starting slot receiver. They're trying to build up weapons around Cam Newton. They have done it with overpayments, but they have brought in upgrades. Kendrick, born and Nelson angle are wide receivers a lot better than what they had last year. And John who Smith in Hunter, Henry, That's It's the biggest tight end upgrade. Maybe any teams ever had in an off season. They had three guys you would never heard of. That Wouldn't have made the Bills practice squad last year. I'm serious about that. I don't think the Patriots starting tight ends last year, would have made the Bills practice squad. They were starting and they've gone to two guys who are the top names on free agency like they were trying to build up around Cam Newton and I thought Adelman would be a part of that. But obviously no. And then my first thought when I saw Oh, Adelman is His contract's being terminated. That was the original report. My original thought was, Oh, he's going to Tampa. He's going to become a free agent. Tampa has not re signed Antonio Brown. And they Brady will get out of men to come. Tampa But It's not happening. Not the way Adelman did it. You know, I thought maybe one or even when we first saw retirement. Oh, my God. Brady will convince him. Box will convince him he'll come back. He'll try for one more Super Bowl. But when you tweet Fox burrow forever and you're announcing your retirement on a chair in the middle of an empty Gillette Stadium. There's no way he's coming back out. That's it for him. So Get your nonsense about that woman is a hall of Famer out. Leave it at the door. 803 or 5. 50 is the phone number. We'll get back to the sabers. When.
Patriots completing 1-year deal to re-sign Newton
"Cam Newton signing a one year deal with the New England Patriots. Big news as we hear from definitely PC's Drew Mohammed suggested that there wasn't enough of that last year touchdowns, but Cam Newton gets a one year deal. The Globe's Jim McBride broke the story this morning. Well, just heard from a source that you know this was happening. It was kind of pointing in that direction the last couple of days but could confirm this morning and as far as whether Newton will be the guy next year, you have to ask whether the path They're done shopping. No, I don't think so. I think this is just the the start of it. We'll see how it all plays out. But Cam Newton coming back. The Patriots making moves Drew Mohammed WBZ, Boston's
Greg Cosell breaks down Patriots QB candidates
"Pleased to welcome in Greg Cosell. Everybody knows over forty years and NFL films the guru over various the matchup show. You know, he's he's seen it all he's done it all he's and in fact, he's been one of my mentors over the years. He's welcomed me in the NFL films to watch wage different film with different people. I think he's one of the most knowledgeable people around the NFL in terms of film and I love the way he analyzes things in in fact listening to him off of recenters me in terms of I need to look at things a little bit more at a distance Greg. Thanks for joining us. I really appreciate it Greg. It's my pleasure to put a while my friend. It has been a while back, but I wanted to get you in on this and you're actually the first outside guess that I've had on my podcasts and you know, obviously the Patriots are at a weird time in the Their existence at least since Bill Belichick has been there with with Tom Brady gone and what they went through last year with Cam Newton. So they are obviously looking for their next quarterback and and that could go wrong in a variety of different ways. And I wanted to have you on just to get sort of your opinion what you've seen how you think things fit with the Patriots in terms of guys that are available right now veterans and also some of the Practical quarterback so but first I want to start with let's go back to this past season. I don't know how much you watch the Patriots considering they fell off a map there about this way of it took. Okay. So I just wanted to get your general impressions of the Patriots offense first year without Tom Brady Cam Newton in there. Just what did you see? What did you think of cams faith? And and why did you think things didn't go great for the Patriots offense last year, you know the best way I can answer that is just with what the film showed because I don't know Greg is you know the game Ovation, you know, I'm certainly not there. I don't know what's in Bill Belichick's head, but they played as if they did not want the passing game to be a big factor in their offense. Now, I'm not going to sit here and say that's Cam Newton. Like I said, I don't know the reasoning behind it. But we know in a league in which the passing game is clearly more predominant with the exception of maybe two or three teenage more predominant that the running game and clearly more so that the Patriots were not one of those teams. They were numerous games that I watched on tape where I felt watching the tape that they don't really want to throw the ball very much. So again, I can't speak to the reason why but we know in today's NFL it's hard to win a thousand up a lot of points playing that way. In in no question, I one thing I wanted to know I certainly have my opinion from watching them over the years and no one expected Cam Newton to come in and be Tom Brady at the line of scrimmage before the snap. But God, how did it appear to you that the Patriots were limited and what they did as far as checks audibles things like that that we would have seen them do in the past. I would say that's fair. You know, it's always hard to know so many people's you know on Twitter social media think they know what a quarterbacks doing at the line of scrimmage. I'm not that smart Greg. I do not know what the quarterbacks doing at the line of scrimmage just because I hear him yell out a few words. So, you know it appeared to be the case that they did less at the line of scrimmage cuz certainly one of the things that God has made Tom Brady great and there's obviously many things but one of the things that I always thought made him great was he won a large percentage of the Downs before the ball was snapped off. I never got the sense that that was Cam Newton's game even in Carolina, which doesn't mean he never did that. Of course every Quarterback does That to some degree but I thought that that was one of the the key components of Tom Brady's game. So my sense is they did not do quite as much of that this year. But then again, I don't think their offense had as many elements to age. Which goes back to my initial point I can't speak to why that was the case, but it didn't strike me that it has as many elements to it. When cam did throw the ball or when he went back to past? How long do you think he did as a whole on the season as far as you know, making the right read and also, you know, just the way he threw the ball. I think he was pretty much the cam that he's always been I think he's always been a little bit erratic. I think he's streaky. I think he'll miss throws that are relatively routine that he should make an make some throws and you go. Wow that guy can really throw it. I think that's the way he's been much of his career. He's always had some scattershot Tendencies and he'll miss some so I think that he was really no different this year than he has been in previous years. He obviously through the ball less than he had in previous years with the exception of a couple of games. It was not an offense. Other than the Running part of it, it was not really an offensive built around him throwing the football. Yeah,
Cam Newton Gets in Argument With Young Heckler at His Camp and Goes Viral
"Also the most jacked quarterback ever was heckled by some kid at his camp this weekend. I don't think i saw that. What happened cam. Newton was at his own camp that he's coaching. And one of the kids is just heckling him on his tiktok. A asia free agent and cam is just like i'm rich. I mean he was saying it with a smile it was it was playful but it was just basically like in his face. Like i'm rich rich. It wasn't playful if that thing's not called cam newton. they failed.
Stop with the Cam Newton nonsense
"Season officially upon us. We've got a lot of lot of stories a lot of rumors lot of things floating out there that may not make people happy. It's the long dark Patriots podcast. We're going to talk about everything and anything related to the Patriots particularly their quarterback situation, of course always rate review subscribe all that good stuff regarding Patriots podcast with Nick cattles nickel be back for another episode later on this week. I'm John zanis filling in and the story du jour or do week or whatever you want to say here appears to be a Cam Newton wage. His name is resurfacing and the Patriots quarterback starch and Greg. I can't I can't think of Anything worse to happen right now if you're a Patriots fan right now and and all you want is New Hope. Okay. This is a new hope the possibilities are endless blank canvas money draft picks Capital. Theoretically the Patriots could do a lot of different things some of which could be very exciting and interesting and I can't think of one thing that would just throw a wet blanket all over over all over that any more than bringing back Cam Newton. Yeah John, it's it's weird. I I started hearing the chatter on all the Sports Talk radio station a week and I'm like what the hell is going on? Like it's basically like Cam Newton's become it's similar to some of the debates that you hear in politics like where they just like Stoke fear in people to generate interest in their shows and things like that. It's like, ooh now Cam Newton's the boogeyman that like who they might be bringing Cam Newton back just to get people to react like people people need to settle down and this is why you suck. Had to be SJ this why you listen to this podcast because you know things like how last offseason when everybody was going nuts about Saddam was a guy in Cherry stem is going to be this and Jerry system is going to be that and he's going to be the next guy. You know, what did I tell you from January of last year over a year ago. I told you that he was not be the starter that there was going to be some sort of Veteran competition. So, you know, welcome to coming here where you where you get well informed you don't have to worry about the hysteria. You just get straight facts and and what's going on. So here's where we are. We Cam Newton and this is something that I've been talking about since the end of his Patriots season, which is it's always been a possibly that Cam Newton could come back here. It all depends on what happens with the market and who they end up with the quarterback and this and that but for anyone to suggest the Cam Newton month Is going to be re-signed being the definite number one. That's what we want starter here next year. That's not going to happen. It just it just isn't in and here's why. We've also sort of touched on this but just to sort of reinforce the point. I think what happened this past season is the Patriots realized and and look we've talked about it that there wasn't really a plan back to check understood that there weren't enough chairs for the quarterbacks and somebody was going to be left could have been Jameis Winston could have been Cam Newton could have been Andy Dalton could have been anybody. It happened to be Cam Newton and they said they'd make it work. It did not work and what I think John what happened was and actually I know this happened the Patriots realized after the Cam Newton experiment that not every quarterback can work in the system and that's not to say Cam Newton still not capable of playing good football. I think that he is do I think it could be better with a better Supporting Cast absolutely I do and do I think God Part of the problem last year. Yes, but at its basis in this scheme, you need a quarterback who sees the totality of what's going on in the field. You need someone who's going to win before the snap. You need somebody who's going to see something on the defense say that's this is about to be a bad play here. We're checking to this and Cam Newton outside of you know, he might he might have alerted a few plays here and there but not even close to what we've seen in and look I'm not going to compare him to Tom Brady. Nobody's going to be Tom Brady, but The Baseline Jimmy Garoppolo would have been a lot better. Jarrett Stidham probably would have been a lot better in terms of what he could even when Jarrett Stidham got in John. We saw things like Palm Coast him would change things that the line that's the Baseline in this offense. And that's where it starts. The number one tenant in this offense is don't run any bad place when the quarterback is incapable of doing that for whatever reason that's that's strike. Number one strike. Number two is understanding after the snap. What's going to happen? What is the defense going to do? What is that going to mean in in reaction time? Like if I see the if I see the free safety all of a sudden rotate from too deep to single single life safety. I should know like that who's going to be open, but great. Let me ask you real quick. Cuz everything you're saying makes perfect sense, but did you need a year of did the Patriots need a year of Cam Newton to know that he wasn't that guy? Is it did you think he was that guy walking through the door? Is there anybody really smart Personnel people out there who thought? Oh can't might be able to adapt to this Patriots dial offense. It didn't seem sensible fit. Anyway. This is a guy who's always had accuracy problems who who plays a totally different style of ball. I mean, I don't know why you would have brought him in the first place. If your idea was to offer a patriot style offense
Is Matthew Stafford a fit for Patriots?
"The Patriots are desperately needy for a quarterback. So the hot name here which surface late last week or over the weekend was Matthew Stafford. So just give us your take on Stafford as a fit home in New England is this a guy immediately everyone had an opinion? Yep, I trade the 15 pick absolutely the question even get it done. So just burn initial thoughts on the Stanford situation and how that could play out for the Patriots. Okay. Well first of all to answer the first question, I do not think the 15th overall pick just gets it done. We just heard from Adam schefter today saying like the lions are already getting calls from people trying to gauge how much it's going to take. I talk to an NFL Personnel executive for a team that will already does have practice to Matthew Stafford and I asked him. What did I what did he think he was going to go for and he said either first and a third this year possibly a sec first in a second depending on how heated the the bidding goes or a first this year and our first next year. So that's pretty expensive in my opinion. And I think it will be for the Patriots now. Let's just start with is he a fit? I think he's absolutely a fit. Look. I think anybody with the Patriots that they're looking at I And I think they've learned this lesson hard this year with Cam Newton is that they need someone who is in this isn't to say that camp isn't these things? It's just he wasn't a good for it. They need somebody who's cerebral who understands maybe has played in a system similar to this where there are a lot of different different options that you can really see the totality of the field when you're in this offense and we're even seeing it now somewhat with Brady with the Buccaneers cuz they're do they have adopted a lot of Patriots things down. The stretch here is you have to understand even your life in before the snap. Okay, you can't play on the Patriot system and snap the ball and not have a good idea of what's going to happen in terms of who's going to be open how the defense is going to be influenced all that stuff home. You have to win before the snap Cam Newton rarely ever one before the snap. So that's number one that you need number to you need somebody who is who is tough and number three off? Need somebody who is a very hard worker. I think Matthew Stafford checks all those boxes plus he has the additional plus of being somewhat mobile Matthew Stafford is incredibly tough physically from what I've seen of Stafford and and he's been in a variety of systems. I do think he can he has the potential to win before the snap. I think he has done it in his career and I think he I think he hasn't a lot of intangibles. So I think that he is a fit for the Patriots John but I just worry I just think you combine what you're going to have to get up and draft draft pick compensation plus what you're going to have to pay him, which is I think somewhere in the mid-20s as far as what's left on his back each year and you look you can renegotiate that and what have you but the combination of those two things. I have a tough time seeing the Patriots do and I I have a tough time seeing them getting into a bidding war over anybody. I
Newton Shines As Boston Area's Patriots Beat New York Jets In Week 17, Finish Season 7-9
"After two game winning streak by the new york jets day fall just short by just i mean. Fourteen points sure to defeating the new england patriots. Up in foxborough final score was twenty eight to fourteen cam. Newton actually looked solid in this game ripping the ball through the jets. Secondary has been a huge liability off season. Adam gays who has already been fired by the new york jets. Black monday is today. If you're listening to this on. Monday coaches tend to get fired on that day. Adam gates has already been told that he will not be returning so jet fans. You can rejoice cam newton finish this game. No twenty one of thirty two hundred and forty two yards and three touchdowns along with eleven carries for seventy nine yards cam. Newton had himself day he also had a receiving touchdown which is pretty cool. If you're going to be real. I mean that's a nice way to cap off your week. Seventeen that was thrown by jakobi meyers. Still No Improvement for Patriots Against Impressive Bills
"What. I think of that game question. I just got done to tell you the truth and let you guys now. I only got through the defensive film. Before i did mass these night games like brutal. I'm getting too old for this stuff. It's it's tough for me to recover. So i just got done watching the offensive film pretty much. It pretty much hold true true. I just thought they got beaten all three phases of the game which highly unusual for team especially in a division. But i think. I think that's where the two teams are. I mean you look at the bills of the the the current the present and the future of the division right now and the patriots. Just aren't and i think i think the thing that look. I understand where the they are offensively. And they didn't quarterback play out of either the guys they ran the ball. Okay the offensive line play was just okay It wasn't as good as i thought upon closer inspection You know this is a team that offensively has a very small path to victory and they basically have to execute well and they have to make the most of all their opportunities and they just haven't been able to do that. Second half of the season including the opening possession when bird drops pass including a. I mean this is just where cam newton is i mean. Even that pass was late. The the sony did a great job of running the ball out and running the play fake. Because most of the time you get running backs who will pull up short or hurry up and they don't sucker in the defense. He suckered in the defense made a good run over to the right side. Threw it back to camp perfect. Then what does cam to he starts running. And then he pulls up and then he throws it was still a good throw. It was right there. Birsh caught it. But that's just like a little tiny thing where it's just those type of things just have built up in this offense where it just the execution level just there and then you look at the bills and you know look. Josh allen has improved a lot he has. I think some of it. You know tom. I don't know how you are but you know you. And i are sort of the same age. We're both were were old school. Fans were old school sort of sports guys. Where you know. My dad told me like if something's too good to be true. It usually is and for a guy like josh allen to go from fifty nine percent completion percentage to like sign percent in one year. That's just it's it's unheard of. It's unheard of what he's doing into me. Then i have in look. It might be true. He might be the exception to the rule that he has improved that much. And he's going to be a hall of fame quarterback. I mean that's very possible. I don't rule that out anymore because of what he's shown this year but to me. It's the combination of brian. Daboll step want digs all those weapons. You just look at the bills and everything they do on. Offense is easy for the patriots. Everything they do is hard. And now i think the most distressing thing in this game minutes been building for weeks. Is that the defense just is not. It's just not even close to being there the front seven. Just not good enough. You know chase winovich was a guy who we thought was he was going to need to start and be effective especially once a high tower was coming back and he's still just a sub package guy and in that just goes on and on for different guys who out there in a playing linebacker for the first time. He made a lot of bear. Stugotz made a lot of errors. He can't cover. He doesn't know how to play in space. He's good going forward. But that's about it like it's just you know they just. There's so many things wrong with this team right now and you need to look at the bills and so many things are right with that team. You're just like you know. I bet tom you're watching that game. And you probably got really depressed watching the building and the patriots. And i understand. It's hard not to feel that
Boston Area's Patriots QB Cam Newton Opens Up: ‘I’ve Sacrificed So Much This Year’

"Josh Allen and the bills completed a rare feat against the patriots with a thirty eight to nine win on Monday Night Football Allen passed for three hundred twenty yards and four touchdowns to lead buffalo to its first regular season sweep of New England since nineteen ninety nine I know this game eight one a minute it meant a lot to both sides you know it's our pride on the line for us you know we're trying to get up to speed Stefon Diggs caught three TD passes the last of which moved Allen passed Jim Kelly for the team single season record with thirty four cam Newton had just thirty four yards passing before being benched for backup Jarrett Stidham New England will finish below five hundred for the first time since two thousand Geffen cooled off Foxboro Massachusetts
Cam Newton is expected to start for Boston area's Patriots against New York's Buffalo Bills
"Official, the Patriots won't be the playoffs this year. Bill Belichick, apparently in no hurry to move on from Cam Doing. Reports are Noone will again be under center against the Bills Monday night Pats or not ready to hand the keys over to Jared? Stick him just yet instead of, of course, the fourth round pick from Len This year, apparently still not ready is new and in the offense remain in neutral newness throne for less than 100 guards into the last four games, But we'll get another chance against the bills who took the first match up, and the Pats haven't been swept by a divisional opponent since 2000. That's when the Dolphins and Jets both pulled the trick. 19 year streak is the longest streak it since the NFL NFL merger 1970 next closest 11. Somebody bought the Cowboys and Rams and seventies
Patriots Knocked Out of Playoff Race for First Time Since 2008
"Patriots who i said would not make the playoffs are not making the playoffs here. Is bill belichick with this loss. You guys were eliminated from playoff contention first time since a wave. Just wondering your reaction to that does that. We win deserve to win tonight. So yeah pretty much. So and i started look at cam. Newton's numbers. Because if i'm new england do i play jarrett stidham the last two games. Do i want to see what i have do. They know what they have do. I just ride this out. And have cam newton as my starting quarterback in his last seventeen starts so this goes back two years cam. Newton has thrown. in seventeen games. Five touchdown passes twelve interceptions. He is had almost five hundred throws over those seventeen games. Peter king points out in his column today. Aaron rodgers has had four hundred seventy seven pass attempts through the same time period. He's thrown forty touchdowns cams thrown five. And i know coming back from arthroscopic surgery on his rotator cuff and for those of us who've had rotator cuff surgery just coming back for a normal life. Not trying to fit a football into a small window is really difficult. And i don't think cam has come all the way back from kovin that but cam. We're not going to see cam twenty fifteen. Never gonna come close to. That can still be a quarterback who starts in the nfl. Is he a quarterback who is going to be a backup quarterback. And i think that's going to be the next step to decide what happens with the patriots. What direction they go in to the go after quarterback do they keep cam. Do give him more. Money is jarrett stidham as that experience experiment over as
Boston area's Patriots eliminated from playoffs with 22-12 loss to Miami Dolphins, end of 11-year streak
"Day of struggles for Cam Newton at quarterback for the Patriots, he failed to lead the team out of the end zone again. They settled for just four Nick Folk field goals, and they were eliminated from playoff contention. Falling 20 to 12 to the Dolphins in Miami Cam 17 of 27 for 209 yards. His counterpart to a tunnel below rush for a pair of short touchdowns while Salvato Ahmed ran for a score for Miami as well. Bill Belichick says their inability to stop a couple of long Miami drives helped do them in this situation. We could keep it on. Get the ball back to the offense and good field position. But when along to too many times the Patriots NFL record string of 11 consecutive playoff seasons has come to an end.

In specifically football cards. On the end on the. Patriot staff. Phoenix tonight decided that we were actually GonNa do kind of a deep dive into what is pissing us off most about NFL and. Most pro sports in general to be quite honest. But we're GONNA focus on the NFL in this particular case because. Both Phoenix, myself have. A long history of both fandom and and. Playing Sports, we have a unique appreciation of what it takes. More it doesn't and how it is devolved into the into this shit show that it is. Just, we're just GONNA go from there. So Phoenix you had you had some thoughts that you wanted to start with go ahead. Well specifically. I I have a major gripe with the NFL in general. Being more politicized. And the. Let's End Racism. Okay, I get my left. Black lives matter. No sorry. They do and I agree with the message just not the manor which is being delivered. We've said that before on the organization go ahead. Exactly. All of a sudden you know we have a organization. That's Through much. Yup You can't do this. You know we have this. AFOREMENTIONED SCAMMED EMMA GOING ON. You can't do this. You can't do this. Well Yeah you can't. Okay. And then we have the social unrest of the nation being thrown into. A sporting. Venues. that. For All intents purposes let's call it. What is it's an escape. There any given? Day that we have competition So now we're going to. Paint messages in the end. We're going to have. Athletes will we're going to kneel to show solidarity. I got a huge problem with that and for our listeners I'm sure you have your own platforms as well. The American flag comes I stand for Gore country you back your country everything else second berry period. That's my thought on that. That's the way it is. Unfortunately when. The NFL NBA MLB hockey underwater basket weaving has become politicized in what we have to show solidarity with this. I have a question. Are you showing solidarity four? Message. Or are you As the NFL did let's put. The name of a known fell one on a helmet. Let's. Let's praise this guy because shot back when a an. Amplifier point in accused rapists. Is someone with a warning active warrants? For Rape Yes. So here in my eternal gripe with this, that will probably go down in flames just like the rest of them. Why are we? In fact. Standing behind. We have to stand behind this person as a form of. Instead of. Waiting, for all the facts that come out be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. And then move forward from there. Well. That's the real question. Isn't it is is you know? All we've seen is what has been allowed to be released. Okay I mean look I think in his thing I agree with everything you just said save one thing. Okay. I don't think demand deserve to be shot seven times point blank in the back now. Having said that. He has an active warrant for his arrest, what he should not have done to prevent that whole situation was to surrender. Get handcuffed and be taken into to engage whatever process there is. Okay, you don't fight cops in the street if you do. You mess with the bull, you get the horns. Okay. He's admitted he was armed. He's admitted he was going for a different arm- armament. Okay. And what do we expect the COPS to die? I don't think so you know I'm. In the eyes of them, that's probably what they're saying. Well. Preserved by life fuck yours. Well exactly. The COP Exactly and and my my attitude would be y is either one wrong as far as you know, one one has a duty to behave professionally the other has a duty to follow the law. Or face the consequences you know it would have saved him from getting shot in the back if he had stopped if he turned around if he'd Toronto. Surrendered Okay Understand that I understand the Warren has has since been vacated, but that's beside the point. When a COP's his I warrant for your arrest I mean you're supposed to do is say what am I being arrested for? Okay I'll go peacefully ears might whereas my lawyer yeah. Instead, of no fuck you fight you tooth and nail, and if get away up the war still there, but you don't have me. Right. Exactly. Exactly and you know I got I got I got a I. got a interject because you know. My personal opinion is if you probably agree Is this. Cancer of case. started. It may have it may have had other sources. Okay. But its primary. Protagonist, in growth factor was Colin. Kaepernick a few years ago and I don't say that in a flattering manner. Okay. I've said it before the my opinion that Colin Kaepernick is the biggest fraud on the planet as pertains to the NFL. At least Ryan leaves when he signed what Leash Langley, when he signed, he knew he was shit approved the wish she had any faded off politely into the sunset because he saw a gay. young just tell the story as I. Recall it and you you you feel free to chime in when you. When when you when you if I'm off base okay. A lot of people don't remember this but you and I as King's football and many things in life have a have a memory quite a bit longer than than your average goldfish. Okay? I remember watching the first incidents of Cabernet court on code kneeling and he wasn't fucking Neil. He had just had an argument with his with with the head coach and I don't think it was Kelly. It may have been horrible. But he had the yard, the head, the argument with Joe it was horrible wasn't horrible yet. So out of you probably saw the clip to you can't find it now because it's Youtube everywhere else. He had he had A. Verbal altercation with Harbhajan and I can only assume in what we were told. You know later was that harbaugh. told him. No you're not starting a colon Cabernet got very unprofessional and like the diva quarterback that he is. Turn Turnhill stomped over to the bench slammed his helmet down in plop disaster down on the bench now by sheer and toll coincidence. Anthem had just started. The anthem it just started when that HAP-. ACI. I know you remember this is I think you and I talked about this at the time that it happened because we were mocking him because when I weren't weren't quarterbacks when we played the game and we know what divas they are even princesses, they are this. If you remember and I know you do espn headlines a couple of days. Later words were that Colin Kaepernick was going to be fine. Substantially for multiple instances of unprofessional conduct conduct deleterious to the team. Leading up to the altercation with harbaugh that happened where he plops his ass on the bench you remember that ideas that. Dakhla and it was it was post practice I. Believe I want a That later that week that a reporter asked him. About the state of the fines and Based on his lip based on. Let's just call it what it was temper Tantrum. Okay. And that's when Cabernet sold all this bullshit about he was doing it in protest etcetera etcetera and he played the race card, which we all know the press eats up hook line and sinker and never ever questioned. Ever On. Me It came across and partner Jackie No, you're good. The the instance of which we are discussing out my first thought on that was yes it's a temper tantrum and I'm about to be busted for having a temper tantrum. So allow me to make up some juicy. To Garner more attention to the fact that. This is happening to be Gimme Gimme. GimMe and I lost my starting spot. Well, that's the that's the point I'm making. He played the race card to avoid fight. For on professional conduct and he was he was outright given a past. I don't think he ever actually even actually got find something that was overlooked too is that is that nick is not a person of color is really not us he is a multi-racial okay and part of that find that he was going to get for unprofessional conduct was calling somebody else on the field the N. Word back can't say here because quite frankly it's feds even and number two I don't WanNa get show you monetize but that said that was part of that that was part of the fine to be levied. The fine was vacated. Okay. Because he was successful, you successfully played the race card and got out. Okay and this whole shift started this snowball at that point. as we as we all know you know he was he was basically the the the face man for chip. Kelly's offense that you know while short term short term effective was absolutely not sustainable. Okay. We all know that. And you combine that with the fact that the guy had. Just over just under a shooting just over sixty percent for completion rate. Even in that offense at his best day, he was a mediocre quarterback surrounded by a bunch of very talented people. Okay. So now it has become the fact that you know this whole narrative has has escalated by people that that know nothing about the actual game because. Football is simple. It's not easy, but it's simple. Is. The ultimate meritocracy. Okay talent hard work equals success. Okay there's a lot of guys. We can probably point him out on the field you and I. There's a lot of guys that that. That just simply outworked their competition to get where they are I'll give you. I'll give you one prime example and right now they call him the goat Tom. De. Tom. Brady was drafted was I can remember he was drafted. He was I. Don't think he was Mr irrelevant. But he was real close. He was the very bottom. Yes. Six he was very close to the very end of end of the draft in and he is he outworked is is competition. Now granted drew bledsoe. If people can remember back set for was not a very good quarterback anyways. He was only borderline better than Ryan Leaf and he went down Tom Brady took over in the rest as they say district but. No? One ever questioned, Tom? Brady's work ethic in those dynasty years in in in New England. Okay. Because he outworked he, he worked his ass off. Yes he was talented. Yes. He's physically gifted but that plus hardwork dedication to his craft turned into in the in the the hardware for the hand so to speak. and. anyways back to my point about Cabernet. All, these people talking about how Catherine doesn't have a job because he's bad for business or half rights, they're only half rice. Now I posted this to the page I know you read you probably it is I. Think I read this week we went to this is from ESPN DOT COM itself. Okay. ESPN DOT. com. The actual date this was published as March twentieth two, thousand seventeen. By their staff writer Kevin Seaford. and. I am just going to read it. I'm. GonNa. I'M GONNA. Try to read the whole thing. I'm trying Doug only try to read the parts that are relevant. But those those listening. If you go to our face, a bitch facebook dot com slash midnight patriots. You'll be able to find this article and we shared it the title of it is calling Kabir Knicks based problem performance. Politics. Day It starts off real simple. So Don't over think why Colin Kaepernick is still a free age simply put years have passed since he was ineffective quarterback he's twenty nine years old has succeeded in an unsustainable scheme as part of a well populated group of former starters who also remain available at as this week began now getting that was march twenty, twenty, seventeen. So they were in free agents. Okay. Let's. Let's move on here. It's blamed Colin Kaepernick's unemployment on his protest is to misread the way NFL teams make personnel decisions. that. I don't think there's any more true statement on Earth. Do you I? MEAN THAT'S Yeah. So it goes on protests where does say at any type of business that if you have lackluster performance, did you are guaranteed two hundred million dollar job? Number One and two I was GONNA say there have been divas troublemakers in the NFL before? Okay and Kim's and? Lewis Terrell on. You know. List goes on and on. And let's not forget the NFL is the lead cut an outright banned ray rice running back from the Ravens for domestic violence. Okay. Before he was convicted. Suspended A. Peterson for disciplining his child. Yeah for banking hit saw. Yeah. Okay for spanking his own child. Okay. So now they put criminals names on their helmet. so by but I digress I digress let's get back to the article. Just to just to go just to go. Teams are swayed I by players potential or lack thereof to help them win protest or not kapernick would be under contract. Now, if he had demonstrable if he had played demonstrably better in recent years. Let's look closer at where capper nick is as a quarterback and why that has left him sitting in a group that also includes fellow free agents, Jay Cutler Josh mccown Ryan Fitzpatrick and Robert Griffin the third. Again keep in mind. This is from shelvin teachings of this is three years ago. Okay. But. It goes on to some of the reason I liked this 'cause this is based on facts not just you know a bunch of race baiting bullshit. Kapernick grid NFL success came as part of the San Francisco Forty niners read Options Skiing Twenty, twelve to twenty four. In those three years, he rushed for Fifteen, hundred, seventy, eight yards which okay. I will give credit that impressive gudgeon impressive number. For. More than any other quarterback with the exception of Rush Russell Wilson Cam Newton so let's just call it what it is. He was third rushing quarterback against. It breath. Okay. I will not fall the net. His. Success. He threw more than twice as many touchdown passes interceptions helped him compile eighth best time quarterback rating in the NFL seventy point to over that period. But even then capper nick was one of the lease most. Least Accurate quarterbacks is sixty point one completion percentage ranked twenty third in the NFL and has percentage of off target throws judged on video by espn stats and information ranked eighteen. So. Based on just the stats alone he was a middle of the pack quarterback middle of the pack. Does that mean that he's better than half the other guys absolutely does that mean that that you know the drama he brings? Outweighs his skills is still setting the money in the monetary investment probably. Okay I agree or disagree just on that statement there. I would agree that yeah, he's a middle of the road quarterback. He had some skill. At. That position. That offense. You're right. Would it work somewhere else probably not but that's Changing teams, you learned their offensive scheme you learn what they do best blend yourself into that and you become part of the team not a one man show. that. I, mean you'd have to agree that most had coaches that have half a brain would go sixty, four, sixty point one completion percentage. even if you're even if you're going to do A. A bootleg offense even if you're going to do a boot offense. Play I can. Still going to have to be better than sixty point one. Periods I mean just entered discussion. Quarter, you're talking college level quarterback. Even if you're on a naked, do either one side, you're still depending on receivers tied ends backs to be open at some point that you can actually say, Hey, he's opened easel bewitched of the two weevils need a cheese her who exactly exactly union able to identify and hit those targets or at least give your guys in a position to succeed you know. I'd like to. Bring to Light I. Not Very long after capital started his quest masqueraded by some of justice whatever you WANNA call it only because he got in my mind and correct me if I'm wrong, he got busted out period. That's just the way it is you through Tantrum he got his ass busted will now I gotta cover with this to cover that with this, and then all of a sudden we have one big lie that snowball into the entire solstice thing that's going on currently. You're. Going to look they had to go. He ended up in Washington. In front of US rest. Explaining his side of everything that goes on great. Denver Broncos of whom I am a fan. I it. Does not get into that because. Pirate about that right. That's ultimate digression. Go ahead, John. elway. It had in fact offer Catholic before your contract. said. Hey. COMPLA-. Can come down because it wasn't enough money. Wait a minute. Let's look at your stats a sixty sixty point something or other completion percentage. Yes. You had fifteen hundred yards rushing, which as we've discussed is pretty phenomenal quarterback save. Russell. Cam. Newton. Maybe rg three hundred healthy. That's stretching it buttle throw it in there. Anyway. I. Really. Wanted to see if capital could be plugged into that offense and sell. Well, that's the that's the real trick. Isn't it? I mean? End and let's be clear. He turned it down because the salary was too low, not the money. Or maybe remember correctly, he turned it down because John elway wanted to load the one at the loaded up with incentives and say, okay, you exceed this mark you get ex you this you get what we go to the playoffs and when you get Z. Experience Cetera so wasn't of excellent. Yeah. But exactly to perform at your very best as cut your in the NFL, they don't take ship nothing while the that's when the NFL stands for not for lofts. That and let's be honest. It was not only. Did he had he had to meet performance criteria he had to me behavior criteria, EXAC? elway and the broncos weren't going to stand for this s J. W. S. J. W. Crap. That he's pulling. So let's go back to the article real quick. It'll it'll. It'll really start driving the point home. Okay. So I believe he started kneeling rating was two fifteen. So. Article Goes On. The issues that we were just talking about the increasing. Or decreasing completion percentage decreasing accuracy except sets. Those issues intensified in Twenty fifteen and twenty sixteen amid forty nine ers. Coaching turmoil in talent drain since the start of the twenty fifth season Kapernick ranks get this. Last in the NFL thirty five all five passers in off target percentage is off target twenty, two point six percent of the time which when she is the least accurate quarterback in the. League. As of the twenty. Fifteen. It goes on. Is Complete. Complete is completion percentage ranks number thirty, two at fifty, nine point one. He was still one of the NFL's most productive Shink quarterbacks, ranking number four total yardage over all those years but it didn't mitigate his passing deterioration and this is in my mind. This is the absolute most important line in the yard or ear and an adult. There is no more important attribute for quarterback accuracy especially for a free agent who is shopping himself teams with various schemes. In, the long term a quarterbacks running ability is considered a complimentary skill and one that is story. Fade with age or because of injuries, scrambling ability and arms drank are secondary to whether you can hit the target. That analysis backed up by numbers essentially wreck stay shit out of this current narrative will Cohen Governor never draw. Back. Dinners. Any beds no sorry. Have a fucking job because he sucks. Sex At what he does also, there's a theory going around the going around that it was right about twenty, nine, hundred he met his I don't know if she's still has girlfriend whatever evidently these ideas about radical justice one I'd ever definitely his girlfriend is, is some sort of radical s j w as well, and he was too stupid to either a lever to the side or be not listen door and just agree to disagree on stuff but then again. Go ahead exactly what it is. Power Pussy with exactly exactly and you quite frankly I can't fault them for that because you know that's ninety percent of marriages happen. We'll just we'll just leave at this point. Is that right there? That's You were saying regarding his ability to suck. But it started then I mean he the guy the guy got lazy. He got loud. Through the race card to cover his shit then he couldn't back up his mouth with performance. You know do you your ears? Rocco's fat okay. Let's talk about just a second. Let's talk about Shannon Sharpe just for ten seconds or for a few seconds. Okay. Shannon Sharpe. Is An arrogant prick agree or disagree now When I hang on, hang on that said. Shannon Sharpe liked to run his mouth about a lot of stuff at a lot of different times also true. Yes. Yes. Shannon Sharpe never failed toback his mouth up with his physical actions on field. Also. True. Unless I'm Clinton mistake, it have you seen the. I know he's A. He's a beast. His and by that, I, mean his physique and his skill level we're just unprecedented but you know I do I think running your mouth there's unprofessional Mind that you buy then back it up on the field nut so much. I mean. Go ahead. If I if I remember correctly now, remember this because there is significant events happened in my life sixteen nineteen. broncos are in the midst of the run to Super Bowl thirty two. Tonight game. In Kansas City in Kansas. City. I can remember. Watching a few days later because of recovering from surgery on. Shannon. Sharpe was literally being drug halfway across the field for most of the game by his helmet because he was talking some serious Shit Oh. Yeah. I. Remember Correctly Dr Thomas. If. If I get an incorrect Thomas Yeah. So. So pissed off the guy, he knocking, Kane insane composure in his professionalism in the game. You got what? I think. Say He lit it up. He was like Yeah. That's ten to twelve for. The Gargantuan One, twenty, one, twenty, six, and what two touchdowns. Yeah he was a month. So. All of a sudden sanders our. Love the Guy I've actually met him. Helvin individual. Love Tall. But he can copious amounts of Shit Oh. Yeah. Oh yeah that that man can back his mouth up. Oh Yeah. We have an and. He. End Let's let's break that down from an NFL perspective. So I'm a personnel manager. Okay and I have Shannon Sharpe as a free agent. His name comes across the wire I go holy Fuck Ball sharps available, and I already know that a he's allowed mouth be he likes to talk shit and sees extremely opinionated man but D-. The Guy Backs should have on the field I picked up the phone. I pick up the phone and say Hello Mr Shannon. Trump's lawyer her agent. This is me at the I would like to pay your your plant, a lot of money obscene amount of money to come help us when football game sets. Ended up with the. Exactly for whatever he was with the Ravens what three years. Say but he wanted them for four super bowl with their to. The argument that Colin Kaepernick doesn't have a job because Hashtag grace is complete an utter bullshit. Bullshit and the the fact that Roger Goodell has bought into this Shit Hook Line and sinker is even worse. Okay. You would think that that to be the commissioner of of a National League or National Professional Sports League that race in what eight to ten billion dollars. A year in gross revenue. You have. You'd have to have an IQ above your shoe size. Goodell even that these people that that they're they're professing to support. Social Justice. Wise. He realized that the vast majority of them do not watch the Games couldn't tell you five players in the league and doesn't even know couldn't name five teams lot I mean. She probably I mean. Look at some of the fan base. Did Not tell you the difference three, four, three defense. Yeah don't try to get him to describe the Tampa to. Exactly or various offensive formation. You're the simultaneous simultaneous possession roll which you and I can quote by heart understand completely. Exactly. Our guys we've got another segment coming up right after this brief break. Really, Shop Dot Midnight Patriots, Dot Com, and now back to the show. You know that's that said. I made a prediction in in midnight moment the last night moment and I want to run around wanted to run that by. Not. Only understand that the business portion of the of the game, but also the game itself. So this is going to the business portion now. One. Of the things that you and I both know is that owners very rarely. SAY WHAT THEY THINK Or say or reveal their plans in advance. Okay. I've noticed that the owners have remained. Suspiciously quiet. About the social justice campaign that's currently going on I do disagree with that. I mean like I said, I think Jerry Jones is really the only one that's actually made any sort of statement and it wasn't a very long. I ever Jones ever quiet. What that's that's my point. And say instead of instead of. Me thinks he protests too much. Me think she says nothing for more sinister Okay so I wanted to run this by this is my theory. Okay. Now we've confirmed the the the Monday night compal atrocity from last night. US. Or Susani from two nights ago that. We've confirmed that the viewership was down approximately twenty nine percent. Across the board in that double header. So if we take the two games Monday and the overall ratings of of being down for Sunday you're talking an average of of a twenty percent downer. It's one fifth of the audience of the television audience told the NFL the PISS off. Okay. Considering the the significant financial investment ESPN has for for the right. To. Monday night football. Let's just let's just call that loss unsustainable. Okay. So I am going to ask you to engage your owner brain for just a minute. Okay. So We're GONNA fast forward to the week after the Super Bowl's okay where things are notably notably quite Rosalie quiet. The coaching carousel began and things like that since. Day. Except that, there's going to be a rumor. Going to be a rumor. That the NFL that the owners are considering locking out the players because they want to renegotiate the contracts. And this will come as a surprise to dumb asses in the AT ESPN released. They're going to feign surprise. Okay. And we're going to start hearing things like while the coaches are not gonNa make anymore are putting hiring decisions are the owners are going to. Put a hiring decisions on pause for just We're going to review a few things and Blah Blah Blah. While then we're going to get to Russia's started free agency. And we'RE GONNA. Find out and it's probably going to be one of the one of the What's The guy's name? Remember his name. One of the reporters Schefter Adam schefter because he always breaks up he's. Probably. GonNa be schefter becomes. We have confirmed reports, the owners who are going to lock out the players affected nine am tomorrow or whatever. Okay. Now what's going to end up happening is this. The overall I would say, the overall revenue is going to decline somewhere in the area of twenty percent across the before the Lee across the. Across the season. Okay. Now again does just a prediction it might be higher. I hope it's higher until they stop dish this personally but. This is what's going to happen. You're going to get a massive ratings ratings cut. Even in the Super Bowl. Which means revenue is going to be down roughly thirty percents. Okay. What they're gonNA say is this is an unprecedented drop in revenue and the the losses are unsustainable. They're going to have to renegotiate the contracts. The players are GONNA have to take less money and this time the the ownership is going to be able to show concrete. The because of the drop in television revenue in Jersey sales and everything else. That they're going to have to renegotiate the contract. They're going to vote on removing Goodell as the commission. You're actually they're gonNA, they're gonNA end up forcing him out but the way it's GonNa play out this players are to get locked out. There's going to be a review of the deal of the of the current Labor Labor Agreement. The new agreement is GONNA. Have a significantly lower. Revenue Pool total that that the players are going to get. And they're going to have conduct they're going to have enhanced conduct policy which include the jewel stand for the national anthem. You will not hiding locker room for it. And you're going to we're going to not endorse anyone as far as any sort of political failure, your ideology on the field, and if you do not only will your contract be terminated but you'll be you'll be on the breadline by your suspended for a year. Now maybe the suspended for year won't come to pass but. Engage your own our brain for just a second and then look at the strike years that came up and you tell me how how how. Or how far I'll fight on that. Will. Allow me to. Dive into this plan I mean. Here we go. I am an owner of a NFL team. Meaning I have had to. Put Out. Let's use an arbitrary figure five hundred million dollars cash right upfront. Chooses five hundred. Half a billion. Cool. I'm. Glad. Yeah. Five hundred million dollars up front in order to gain my team have somewhere to play. The voted on passed and approved by the NFL. As either an expansion team whatever then. To, Cherry pick the other teams around here so I can build my team. In hopes that a I get a return on investment. That said if I'm going to dump five, hundred, million dollars out. A team equipment place play contracts that are stretched for X. number of years. This mice guaranteed this much at a signing bonus this much. Not. including the money paid to the team from the NFL for reaching a wildcard round, a divisional round championship round, and ultimately the Super Bowl. There are incentives paid to the teams by the NFL for attaining postseason plum. Yeah So that said with everything that goes on here. Currently we're martyring. Convicted felons we are. Using the NFL. As a soapbox. As an owner. would. Say? Okay. I can understand. The Point I understand where you're coming from I understand yes. Shit doesn't like this doesn't need to happen. It does there's nothing I can physically do about it personally except point out to you that you're not them. You are a multimillionaire more working your way to that point because of your talent, your skill and your ability play the game price. You as a athlete. well-fed well trained. Best shape, your ever loving life you have a house bigger than anything you've ever grew up in, you've got cars for days all these other things but. You need to remember that you are entertainer You're not a politician. So, that said. When to go into your point? After the Super Bowl. Until they actually have one right. That two weeks later, when everything's died down in the in the winter sprayed is over and losers or duck griping and the coaches players have made their way to their respective all. Wherever. That may be they're probably their private castles. Yes don't don't live in a castle guarded by you know dogs bigger than. Most people's. Cars. Were we will probably see as you said. Well you know revenue was down. Because of viewership is down across the board anywhere between currently twenty twenty, two percent to encroaching upon thirty percent. For Games you know TV, rights merchandise sales are going to be down. People are actively boycotting across those media and they're actually making their voice known by not watching. All of a sudden if we were to take thirty two current teams. And we look at. All the owners in this how much money they have? Now if we were to take thirty percent of total investment apart. As a conglomerate figure. We're talking a loss of probably and I would strong. Guess. Somewhere in the neighborhood of anywhere between two and two point, five, billion dollars while even go you want all you can go one better I think since the economy has basically picked up I mean you gotta remember the day to ten billion was during the Obama Konami which was one of the worst economies history. Okay. So that said you gotta figure that now it's probably going to be between ten and twelve. So if you have a twenty percent revenue law, if you have a almost thirty percent, you're talking about three billion dollars. That's a three billion dollar loss. So even if even if you spread that across thirty two teams, you're talking about what? Three hundred, million dollar loss per franchised. and. So and a lot of the smaller market. Good. So again, as an owner with Joan, arbitrary figure of five, hundred, million dollars starting I just lost seventy five percent of your or yeah of my revenue that I put into have an NFL team. Well, exactly. Well Number One and number two what anybody thinks that now? Okay. We all understand the cats at the revenue sharing For Those of us that are initiated, understand understand the the the reason for revenue. Okay. That's that's a given. Okay. Even still a thirty percent cut to that revenue devastates small-market teams devastate. Okay that's. Cleveland Cleveland Cambe that's Detroit. Well, I think Detroit is a bit bigger, but I catch meaning. into. Jacksonville. Flow? Buffalo Alright. That unders. Anyway. They're too big but no I hear you here's here's here's the thing the smaller market teams are going to move may if this continues maybe on the verge of bankruptcy and and if you really don't think that the NFL owners will lock out the players to avoid that. I just think everybody's so naive that they shouldn't even be a football fan you can. Football I in my opinion, these played the players and Adele are cutting the owners throats and I don't think the owners appreciate it number one and number two I. Think the owners are more in touch with their demographic their fan base style people want to believe i. don't say that they like their fan base because obviously as the executive class billionaires general ended the tend to hate working people or at least have a disdain for them. Okay. But the point being is that it's unsustainable model for them to go forward to continue this crap. Of K, it's it's absolutely ludicrous. So I think about beat that horse to death did you have anything to add on just on that? Final thought regarding that as an owner is a businessman I yeah exactly. Exactly. His businesses to? Yes he owns the team but as a business owner, you're always looking to. CRUISER BOTTLE BLONDE Increase but also you know they've got, they've got a commitment. You know what I mean I mean the bottom line is there are associated with raising revenue to pay Patrick mahomes half a billion dollars over the next. Seven years. Of. The point the point is this is that there are costs associated developing that revenue and win the players behavior or when when the when the the players union in the League encourages behavior that is deleterious to to that mission. Then what are the owners supposed to do? Gordon exactly. They locked the doors take resigning before we open this and then players you're GONNA WE'RE GONNA have to do a big restructure here. Sorry. You know this is this is not you? Not You know you're not this side of the world you guys are on the upper echelon. Of money you have succeeded in. On yourself up by your bootstrap for lack of terminology, you have made it playing a game that you love passion for three enforce your point duty not only are they a privileged class? Okay. Let I verified this I verify this last night. I made a statement that that. The NFL, the people on the NFL minimum as in rookies that that you know what we're undrafted free agents, right that are somehow made the squad, which is more powerful MAZAFA. A No experience. Rookie. Signed as a free agent this year in the League makes a minimum of six hundred, thousand dollars. Six hundred, ten, thousand dollars I then went to the Department of Labor's website guess what the average household income for Americans is as twenty twenty. Sixty, one, thousand, three, hundred. Yes. They working person would take ten eleven years to make. They're making six months show and this is not this is not an insult. I'm only going to use the label for for effect. Hacks in the NFL make ten times. The average working family does and they dare fucking lecture us about what our values should be faulk them. Big F what. Exactly. With a with capitalize all letters with with several exclamation points at the end. So that said I. Underlined and and I tell us is never. That's that said, I I wanNA give credit where it's due also understand that you know. What did I just go off on the NFL to you know to to to the end up with surprise we'll tell you why because You know even in the worst of situations, even even in the darkest night, there are rays of sunshine out gather are rays of light and I want to heap praise on two particular players, and these are the only two players. That I'm aware of have done this if any of you out there. Needed to midnight Patriot nation are aware of more please let us know. So we can give them their just desserts in their props. I want to give particular a credit to a hundred in the way of of the of the Pittsburgh steelers. Mr Villanueva is a former army ranger That said he made a big splash stirred shit storm by doing the right thing. I'm not going to get into the to the criminal that that the that the steelers. We're trying to honor Norma GonNa try to justify it didn't happen there but. Mr Vienna wave. Did something very classy He caped over the criminals name and he chose to honor sergeant first class all when cash. Now I believe I'm saying that correctly cut me some slack by brute if I if I. A brutalized his name that is not the intention. To say how I believe it's spelled. But sergeant first, class all, when. Cash. who was killed in Afghanistan? And I I, WANNA. I WANNA take. The chance to really You know he preys on on Mr Villain away for for going against the grain and for honoring in a true fallen hero on instead of instead of the criminal. So. Well on on that. The next one and probably the biggest honors of the latest give to the Jaguars tight tyler effort. I think I'm saying his name correctly also I don't think it's effort at the. But again, please forgive me if I've Jaguars fans if wrecked his name to. That being said that were I for also You know went against the grain he chose to honor the life of David Dorn David Dorn for those of you that that don't know was retired police officer. I believe it was Saint Louis. He. police chief Sir about that. He was retired police chief and he. was acting on behalf of a friend to go and check is Friends Pawn Shop. And he was gunned down he was killed Doing doing that by a felon in possession of firearm each shot this this legitimate euro From behind in the back of the head, which was incredibly cowardly act. ADORNS widow. was featured at the Republican National Convention. So those be the she told the heart wrenching story and As much as I am I gotTa tell you broaden orphee side, but he loved me misty. I was just her story about David's life was very touching and the impact on her family were simply crush. So I wanNA other drove I drove home the point. Your choice exact life exactly as what makes you? Exactly you know people people come from from bad situations and rise to great heights in as far as I know. This is the only country in the world that that can happen. Where you can make what you want of your own life. Okay. The biggest prison that we have in this country, the prison in our own minds. So A. Big Praise to do Mr Bean away and Mr for will done. I still have the continue my. My boycott because of my standards but you gentlemen have shown that there is a a ray of light in darkness. So Phoenix where you have anything to add or have we beat this to death. By by Pres for. There are people in the NFL that are serving of. Respect for me for one. Not because of their wallet or their house or their cars. But they chose stand for the national anthem. As. SOMEONE WHO Leaves in their country. Leaves in the American dream all though little hard to attain sometimes. The anthem regardless of anybody's political stance. The gentleman across the nation. And the NFL NBA MLB. I stand with you guys choose to stand in honour your country. That is. The way it is your will said. Anybody else wants that is your choice. I. Respect your choice I don't like it but I do respect it. But I stand with the gentleman who chooses stanton honor the country, the greatest country on this earth. Gives them every opportunity to excel in anything that they choose to? Like professional football or professional athletics exactly. I think it. I think it's worth mentioning here. I know we said we beat the source of, but I wanNA bring up another topic to. Weird Midnight Patriots all of us. May disagree with with what someone says, but we would fight to our desk to protect their their right to say those words. That being said I think one of the other things that the public is piss pot tired of is the privileged wealthy assholes. Being able to have different sets of rules at their workplace than we do. In the Corporate World in William and most smaller companies you do not have. You do not have freedom of speech. Okay. You will be shown the door if you bring up politics religion, etc etc. Okay. With social justice causes or otherwise. They can show you the door. Okay and I don't think I don't think it's Ok these. Use Their their platform on the field or in any way while a uniform to promote their agenda. Okay. Now, I think you and I would agree with this if the NFL Players Association wants to get together and host either a live event or televised event. when they are not playing and they're out of uniform. And they want to tackle these issues donate money to causes give away money whatever I think that would be a perfectly acceptable display. That's fine. Okay. But I think the reason they don't is they know that the cause is a loser. Okay. They're not willing to risk their own money you know to they're not willing to put their money with their mouths are in order to have their protests but but you know somehow everybody else should just shut up and and honor was they're trying to do and I think that that is excellent. You know policy at its finest end. America's PISS POT tired of turning channel I. think that's a big factor as well. As your thoughts unfortunately mean here to. Drive your point. I could see. Getting together having one big party fundraiser l. have running toe board. Hey, you know we're raising all this money great or even several. Yeah Go. But the reason but the reason they're doing it on television is because they can reach a mass audience all at once. But. They haven't had. They had the NFL network. If. The shows a winner, they could sell it to their to their allies in the media. WHO's to say ESPN would cover it. You know for God's sake ESPN has the SP one of the worst ward Joe's ever. Okay and if they want to go up to that into a social justice show fine. Go right ahead or create when like it again. Fine. Or if you know even Amazon or Netflix wants to pick up something about you know the S J W 'cause in the NFL an interview players follow players around their charitable work while they advance these causes grace go ahead I mean I think what they'll find his a there's no interest in be nobody cares they approach it that way that we far less backlash in their their incomes would be far safer than if they continue down this path. the ratings would actually come back to a more normal. That's where I'm talking about I. Mean there are only cutting their own throats by doing it the way they're doing it that that's all I have to say. So that's a wrap for this midnight. Mama we we went really long hopefully provided you get some insights, maybe some food for thought. Ob Spartan in Im with Phoenix, and we're just reminding you one last time in forever. "Good morning, it is time to get up with Cam Newton. Do here what one of his old teammates said about him in Balaji is this really a marriage destined to fail plus the answer to all of problems is so simple instill it probably won't happen. We'll tell you exactly why and then today is the day golf's greatest legend back on its biggest age the first major of the year and Tiger will be on the course as we get up with you starting right now delighted to have all of you joining us and getting up early with us here Mike Greenberg in Bristol. With you for the next two hours until ten thirty eastern when I take will come your way and of course, today is the first major championship in golf in thirteen months and tiger woods will be on the course. We will get to all of that our game of the night but we begin with this fascinating story. Cam. Newton and jared stood him are listed as co starters at quarterback on the Patriots official depth Chart Kyle. Love is cams former teammate from Carolina. He also played under bellichik in New England, and he had some strong comments regarding this pairing of Cam and valujet said. This is just opinion but I don't feel like Cam can take the pressure of coaches down about his play. If he had a bad game in Carolina, the coaching staff wouldn't say much to him because they may have felt he could be a little frail about it or maybe pout. Really. Corrected to the point bill used to correct Tom. My fear is can can fit in their box because I want Cam to win. I just hope he can do that within the guidelines of what bill wants for their fears a lot to react to their and let's do it with my squad is back together, Ryan Clark Dominic Foxworth and Kimberly Martin with me here early this morning and Ryan, we'll just start with you. As you hear those comments it's fascinating can cam fit in their box what do you think? I think he can, and what's crazy is cam. Newton has always been critiqued for the person that is when he's actually never done anything bad or anything wrong. He's just been him and when you talk about a player being aware of where they are that's what Cam Newton is. Right now he understands that he was passed on when I was younger in my career I played for Greg Williams and anybody who's ever played for him. Know that he'll cuss you challenge character he'll challenge your manhood. He'll say things about you and to you that you know aren't true. that. If on the streets y'all would throw hands about but I was the third year guy who was just picked up from working at Lsu and so I stood I had to accept those things now you fast forward toward the end of my career and I walk in and Telcos has the hey today you can get on me about this play at practice because the young guys need to see you attack a veteran young guys need to see you coach me as hard as they'll be coached by you because you're in different places in your career Kayla understands. where he is and so many times we have people that WANNA weigh in on what he may not have been able to take. That was the way the Carolina Panthers chose to coach Cam Newton Bill Belichick made go a different way about it, but cam new understand where he is what he needs and what has to be done for him to get back to where he wants to be and it bill belichick coaches him in a hard way Bill Belichick puts pressure on him to be great. He understands that's what he needs. So let's not critique and talk. About what Cam may not be able to handle it? So He's in that position in has to handle it. It's really interesting because again, Kyle love is saying this not from a position of criticism, right? Dominic kissing because he wants it to work. He says, he likes Cam he wanted to work and he doesn't see that as a mix and he does specifically say that the coaching staff in Carolina they may have felt he could be a little frail about it or maybe pout that's his perspective. It doesn't mean it is the only perspective. What do you think? Nick? Wasn't on a team with Cam Newton and I never play for Bill Belichick. So love has a different perspective. However, I think that's a Ryan's point. They're all in different places. So Cam Newton built that house down in Carolina that was the house that came built was real hard to walk into a house that someone built and tell them where the put all their furniture. Entirely different situation. Going up to that mansion that Bill Bella check built up in New England Cam Newton has written a room. He's a house guest. I think he's going to be coming up with a different demeanor and he's going to behave differently. He understands his situation to suggest that Cam Newton is the same old. Cam. Newton Cam Newton doesn't understand where he is is it suggests that Cam Newton was not the one. Who just experience everyone passing on him many times it's the suggests that Cam Newton is not the same player wonder stands that he just signed for League minimum I think Cam Newton stands all that Joe bought himself be completely understand would bill belichick has a carpet. So I'd surprised if Cam Newton comes in there and he messes up and builds bill belichick gets on him a little hard if Cam Newton. Pal and say, but I'm Cam Newton. He knows that he's just renting a room in bill checks mansion right now kimberly, you're making your point earlier this morning about some of the things we've heard from cam since he signed in. New. England that sort of lend themselves to exactly what NECAS SAYING Yeah this is a really humbling experience for Cam Newton I mean the guy said I was left I felt like I was left to die to have to go from MVP type seasons to now no one believes in you feeling like everybody is written you off. This is a different cam and CAM has said we've never seen this before even cam has never seen this cam before. So I don't think anyone can say what Cam will be in New England and Bella check a shown everybody's equal if he's going to get on a six. Time Super, bowl winner and practice. Best. Believe he's going to get on Cam Newton to and camel probably take it. It's five. All right. More on. This is as the morning continues I just think it's a fascinating story because it would feel different to me if this was someone who was being critical saying, oh, can can never handle that it is at least position as someone who was a friend saying, Hey, I. Don't see this as a mix and I hope that it works out. We'll talk more about it as we go but right now. Last night from the bubble Lebron. James and the Lakers, taking on the thunder and the stars were out in attendance to at least the extent that can be a little wayne. Is there kind of third quarter Lakers down seven Lebron going to the basket? Lebron Lebron nineteen points last night on nineteen shots, and now we're going the other way and shake Alexander going to get it to Chris Paul and he's going to lay it up in good Paul would lead all scores with twenty one on the night of stay with the place on the other end Danilo Gallinari, playing the defense, and now just take a look at.

"Talking about someone who's already had a year in the system who already has established relationships and connections in the locker room that are so important to build, and we're talking about someone that was helping lead some of these voluntary player lead workouts back in May, and so he's further down the road in terms of of all those things that are important. or any quarterback, and so to me it's sorta factor versus the natural talent and ability, and really I mean. High level talent. We're talking like this could be special. If Cam can get back to what he was pre injury You know it's sorta balancing those two things which one wins out. I wanted to talk about that as well in terms of. campsie smell. Let's let's consider the hypothetical here. Let's say Cam. Newton plays well and has a very good season. Ask the Patriots start across I mentioned. This is a one year deal. The Patriots have the ability to franchise, but otherwise no link to Cam Newton after the season and. They could you know recoup a third round pick for Cam? I if candace play well, and he gets a big deal in free agency. I don't want to suggest that these things are directly related. But the Patriots were Dr Third Round Pick as part of the. Scandal related to their them filming in Cincinnati earlier this year, I don't think that they signed cam in the hopes of recouping that pick, but want to ask you Mike is if cam does play well this year. Do, you think the Patriots would be likely to sign him to a long term contract given his injury history. Or do you think at this point? You know that that Cam would be a a the opportunity to sign a valuable player for cheap for one year Jarrett, Stidham, still our guy, but you know we're happy with what we saw from Cam and we're GONNA. Let him leave. You know we're going to go back to our original plan. I think everything is on the table..

"Thought bill I think I'd probably lean in the other direction that if Cam Newton shows that you know, he can pick up this system and if Cam Newton shows that this is the right that he can fit in this culture. Are Driving Culture where it's all business. You gotta walk in that Locker Room. Check your ego and make it. You know more about we than me. If. Those two factors sort of you know fall in place, plus and this is the biggest one of course. If his health is good. I just think what he brings to you as a player is just the. Just at a higher level. A higher proven level. Then Jarrett's did him and Brian Hoyer so I would lean more toward Cam being guy if those factors. you know fall into place and I guess there's probably one other important thing to mention is this is an organization that for the most part has a history of. Not Valuing status, whether it's draft pick status contract status firms of making decisions on who play, and so if Jarrett Stidham out and shows that he's the best quarterback like I view in unsentimental approach from Bill. Belichick in saying look. Jared has proved it in the time we've had. He's our guy and it wouldn't shock me if they go back to the scenario that they had on Saturday before this unfolded where it would be just Jarrett and Brian Hoyer, if they felt like like cam wasn't up four that Wildcard Niche type of hypothetical role that we just discussed. In terms of this upcoming summer I mean obviously we have no idea. Whether there will be an NFL season, if will be abbreviated season if there will be a preseason. What training camp will look like? We don't know we have no idea. What the next couple of months are going to look like. Mike if the preseason and the training camp schedule is shortens or perhaps non existent or dramatically different from what we expect in a typical offseason. Do you think that benefits cam or do you think that benefits jared said? I think it benefits them because we're.

"Like? It could be a reality back in May. When Bill Belichick said look, the door's always open, but we got. Guys were comfortable working with. Now becomes a reality in late June that Cam Newton's willing to accept this type of contract. Well once that factor that is in play bill, it changes the whole discussion. Makes no sense. And I do think that. From Cams perspective. This is a guy who. was making a lot of money and was a starter for a long time. It has to be a starter. He was one of the best quarterbacks and football and healthy We saw in the market. Kind of closed up pretty quick a lot of guys. The the few starting jobs that were available became full, pretty quick after Tom, Brady, Bait, his choice, and then the sort of the primary backup jobs became full on the Patriots were the only option really when it came to even the possibility of a starting job that Cam Newton had. If he was going to. Accept this sort of opportunity so. Given that it was the only only chance the Patriots had all the leverage in offering Cami very team friendly contract, even have the right. To Franchise Cam Newton after the season if cameras play well. And I noticed that our colleague Dana Rossini. said that this is courting her tweet. I smoke overtaxed with an AFC east head coach on Cam and the Patriots. From the quote says. I think they are going to keep three quarterbacks US Cam Newton. Perhaps as the wildcard actually don't see him starting week. One in this offense. I know one thing for a fact. The Patriots Love Jared Stadium and I wonder. Do you think. The most likely scenario when it comes to the first part of this season for the Patriots is that we see jared stood as the starter, and and Cam in sort of a a part time role where he is coming on for a few steps per game. That's the compelling.

With the Patriots Day we're going to have Mike Reese are Patriot reporter talking about the decision and we're GonNa have map at Bowen and talking about how the Patriots. Offense might change whether it's cam or jared cinema quarterback, but I just wanted to remind you guys check out espn daily now with me. Although in the future. is going to be Pablo Tori taking over as being a moves to NFL Y, so regardless through the host is excellent stuff five days a week breaking down the biggest stories in sports. If you were also interested in more, my thoughts about the Cam Newton Situation I'm on ESPN daily this week on the Tuesday episode. Believe talking about the camp situation, so check that out man subscribe to daily subscribe to the Bill Barnwell show which is on the way, right? Joining me as promised on the show, frequent contributor to the bill, Arnold Show, good friend of mine was excellent work, covering the Patriots or ESPN and we're GONNA. Ask him about. What he thinks about Cam Newton and This this suddenly new Patriots quarterback. It's our friend. Mike Greece. Mike how are you? It's great to be with you as always appreciate the kind words and feel the same about you doing well and hope all the listeners are as well. We have a very interesting topic to talk about I. Don't know about you I want to start with this. I have to admit. That even though I'd written about making some sense, even though I was still holding on a tiny bit of hope, and even when I wrote about jared couple weeks ago. I said you know barring elastic and move. You know he's one of the winners in the off season. And then that last-second move happen. The Patriot signed Cam Newton. So my concern starting this when the news broke. How surprised were you? In the moment bill you're. You're always surprised and to be honest. That's not the easiest thing to say. When you're a beat reporter covering the team, you never really WanNa be surprised when news breaks right you wanNA feel like you're on top of everything and. Of course we all learned about it through our colleague Adam Schefters tweet along with our colleague Chris Mortensen. I thought bill was okay. Let me just check. Make Sure Adam wasn't hacked. And take that deep breath and you say Oh, no, this looks legitimate. It is legitimate, and then you work backwards from there, and maybe that initial surprise you know becomes a little less acute if that's the right word as you start to piece it together and understand how it came together. Makes Total Sense. And you know I do think that. You can see the logic behind why the Patriots would pursue Cam Newton especially when you look at the contract, I mean this is a one year deal. It's for the minimum. There are incentives but men. They're so little risk for the Patriots to bring Cam on the one thing it might impact. I think it's fair to say I is how. Perhaps they perceive or we what we think about how they perceive jared, who had been the guy who was the presumptive number, one quarterback Brian Hoyer guesses in the discussion as well, but stood in was the presumed starting quarterback for the Patriots heading into the regular season, they passed on the opportunity to sign a lot of different guys. Trade for guys draft for somebody I mean. They went forward with jared students. Read this entire off season. And then suddenly you know we get to the middle of June, and they make a change, so the in terms of. The JARRET STIDHAM situation. Do you think? This is more likely to signal. Hey, we had the opportunity to buy low on a franchise quarterback, and this was a risk. We had to take a opportunity. We had to take the low risk, or do you think it means that the Patriots? Even though they've said all the right things about jared steadham still thought that Cam Newton would be a significantly better option than stood him guy. They had enhanced. I think it's.

Reporter or Eagleton's lifetime should actually pretty funny, probably won't anytime soon. Either according to you, they might win the division this year. It depends quarterback. Problem is, says it question. Is You WANNA say they could go back to super bowl I don't WanNa. Say did. Confident that the Patriots will not be in the Super Bowl I mean that's not that hot of considering. The cowboys got smoked by the Texans got her home by the chiefs. One. Barely beat the bills on a Saturday night game and then lost at home to the dolphins. This is not a twelve and fourteen. Don't get it twisted. You take that defense from last year. Yeah, they lost a few pieces. They lost a lot or uses wait for it, and they upgrade at quarterback. Stop! You don't believe I don't understand. I understand how you can disagree I. WanNa run back some some episode. If you're saying it's an upgrade and I know you don't believe that they would be better with Cam. Newton their quarterback and All this is all predicated on a healthy Cam Newton. First of all. You can't predicate that. That's like saying. This is all predicated on Tom Brady's thirty one like now. That's not all because you can't. You can't change Tom's age Cam Ken get healthy. No, he can't. He's having he's permanently. He's permanently injured the rest of his. percent his his abilities permanently lesson because of existing pre existing injuries. That's that's a fact. You've heard your shoulder before, right? It's you're more prone to hurt your shoulder again. Are you going to be NFL doctors at my disposal? I wanted to stay college where they misdiagnosed me right, but your shoulder also only popped out. This shoulder is torn all the way through. He's got foot surgery. Cam Newton is not an upgrade overtime. Brady, let's just be frank here. Agreed to be sitting behind an average offensive line. He's going to be dealing with. The lease impressive weapons potentially in the entire division. The defense was really good for the I have this season against really bad competition. I'm still not all in on that defense. Don't draft a quarterback this year, and it's looking like Jarret, Stidham or somehow maybe even Brian Hoyer might end up being the starting quarterback given all of that. How does this CAM deal come together? Well just raises their ceiling. Right I mean I. Think it's a weird weird off season at quarterback where there were a bunch of guys available but Cam. Newton wasn't available. I mean if you remember he was in the panthers didn't cut him when fridge started so all these shares that were opened most of them got filled There's been concerns over Cam. Newton's health. He's had a concussion. Concussion, he's had the shoulder issue in sixteen. He's had the knee sprain and sixteen, a significant knee sprain in sixteen. We have the shoulder tear. That requires surgery. Now we have a foot sprain that six seven relatives, and then you had the pandemic, so it was hard for him to work out for people so I think there's been a lot of uncertainty on him, but we got to a point now where Cam Newton could see look this sucks. There's not a big market for me. And then the Patriots were like well. Go Get Cam Newton without having to pay him twenty million a year when we don't really know. Where he's at. That makes us the potential. It'd be much better. The biggest question mark with Cam is obviously whether he can stay healthy. You know he's been posting a number of videos on his instagram of himself working out. I think he's trying to show us that he's healthy. I think the health concern for a big reason why no team was stepping up for a big contract, right? It's a big cloud over him for not getting the top dollar. This is a one year deal. Worth up to seven point five million incentives. What do you make of Cam taking a minimum deal built on incentives well I. Mean You really get down to what are your options right? And how many teams were GONNA sign him to a big deal? I he already knew what the market was, and so he takes the best deal he can get, and it's not a great deal. It's not what he would expect to get, but. It's better than not having a deal I think this shows us. That Cam Newton wants to play Cam Newton. Could retire I'm sure he's made a lot of money, but he doesn't want to go out like that, so he willing to take a lesser deal on a good team where he thinks he can win. It's probably the best of a bad situation for him. Well, let's talk about how cam fits into this. New England offense Cam Newton and Tom Brady are obviously completely different types of quarterbacks. HOW SHOULD WE EXPECT CAM to fit into Josh mcdaniels offense well, the one thing bill check is known for new. England is changing their game plan based on their playing that season and changing their scheme so i. don't think they have this offense that now they just try to. To Make Cam Newton play their offense I think they're going to change. And they probably wanted to have a little more mobility, a quarterback so I think you'll see a more diversified attack that will feature some of the things Cam. Newton can do running. It'll be a different type of an offense. I think you're GONNA. See Flexibility and change, and probably some excitement offensively for them. One of the things that makes Cam Newton harder defenders. He might run over you. got. Down! He's like a mack truck. This is the NFL. You're not supposed to be able to do that. The old saying a man amongst boys. I think they're gonNA have to have that in there because it's part of the appeal, a huge theme of the Patriots season last season was this was probably the weakest wide receiver core Tom Brady and bill, belichick and ever worked with. Are we still expecting that to be a challenge bringing cam in that he won't have the strength of receivers at New England is used to throwing out there. Yeah I! Think it's a factor you know I think it helps to have a dual threat quarterback in one of the things that. Underrated last year. Was You know they? They lost their fullback I think they really had a good run oriented offense before that so I could see them. You know trying to redouble. Make sure their ground game is good I. They're always in the market to add. Was Antonio Brown or think of all the veteran receivers. They've picked up late, so you can certainly see that sort of thing i. one of the things I pointed out is when Cam Newton won the MVP in two thousand fifteen, then Greg Olsen they had a bunch of receivers who were not stars I mean Jericho Khatri I. It's really it would be surprised if you looked at the list of the name, so he's had success. Success before in an offense didn't have a bunch of star receivers well. Let's talk about some of this analysis that you've given us. You wrote. If the Patriots want to win with Cam Newton, they should look back to twenty fifteen. Tell us about that year so Twenty Fifteen Cam Newton, had this amazing season. It was the MVP the league. There's fifty MVP voters. Forty eight voted for Cam. They went to the Super Bowl fans. Three hundred eighty two. Rushing and passing yards in the game four touchdowns. And this NFC championship game. It's a record most of a suitable era forty nine I. think what people don't realize about the season was the first half of the year cam was just really average. Throws. His numbers weren't good. I mean like an eighty one passer rating get fourteen touchdowns nine interceptions, but they were eight. No, because they were so good on defense. If you look than what happened. The second half of two thousand, fifteen was Cam Newton was lights out..

You move on after year, but by goodness. If he's good and again I think going to be good I hear all this talk all. He doesn't fit the Patriot system. He's so different than Tom. Brady! Of course. What is the Patriot System Don't they know they been versatile. You know they they've done spread offense. They moved. Randy Moss and wes welker. They've done you know twelve formation. When they had the two tight ends, they've been more of a running team early and Brady's career. They were having a half. have run half past like that's that's the strength of Bella check is. He's versatile. Sometimes they change from week to week. If USCIS so he will be able to figgers something he will figure out what is the best way to utilize? Cam Newton Josh mcdaniels had success. With Tim Tebow, which is not easy to do. And, so he was running quarterback. I don't think it's going to run as much as he used to. He shouldn't because you'll get hurt, but I actually think this was a great move. Rob And I think the Patriots are going to be really I think they're going to be good I..

"Newton is thirty one. He's coming off three surgeries and less than three years one to a foot to to his throwing shoulder, which are both important body parts for a quarterback Gene New England Post Tom. Brady was assumed to be turning over its offense to second year. QB, Jarret Stidham but knew there was no way that Bill Belichick was going to do that. At least not without some competition from someone other than thirty four year old Brian Hoyer who has a job while cap. Who is thirty two does not. Cam Newton didn't have a lot of options gene. The Patriots didn't not have a lot of quarterback financially and football e Bill Barnwell of ESPN said this might be the bargain of the off season. Do you agree? Oh Yeah I mean so came obviously is a diminished version of himself right? He's not the twenty. Fifteen MVP, Cam Newton, but I mean considering just how people like play quarterback at an elite level like he's one of the few people who can who can get there like in the world who can get there so getting him for the League minimum and ended up disincentive later. Leading contract makes a Lotta sense for him Like he a compete, I mean they're not being the chiefs, but gets to compete for a super bowl next year, which was an opportunity, probably had anywhere else and for Bill Belichick. You can see the calculations for him. I mean you know he's already been in the game for what couple of decades now like his window is not going to be open forever. How much time does he want to spend? You know coaching up a second year. Dude, who never who's never started before to a place where they can blake. A. Competent Helmsmen for Super Bowl contender I mean this means it makes a lot of and still like a really I mean I think we forget how good cam was at the peak of his powers. I mean. He was like he was adult. Right I mean he had a canine phone arm. He was obviously a humongous human being He's obviously diminish from that but I mean he. He is still light years better than most of the quarterbacks and NFO even in even with all his diminishing. Yes, it's just hard to know what's real here right? Are we going to see the Cam Newton of our memories? You know the one that captivated us like a two thousand ten, and in two thousand fifteen. This one of a kind athletic marvel who you know I've been. Struggling with I I, thought for a number of years at the complaints about his accuracy was sort of racist, but But the, but the numbers show that. Yes, no, he does have some difficulties with accuracy, but that's the thing like, are we? Are we talking about that earlier? Cam that you know unprecedented athlete playing quarterback? Are we talking about the guy who's been injured basically every year since they played in the Super Bowl and so it's hard to understand. Even still how Cam was still out there I mean because he's still young still has a chance to recover. It's not like he's the only quarterback that's ever been injured from multiple years and had opportunities, but we're talking about a dude. Dude. Who I mean until the Patriots stepped up, it was conceivable that can wasn't going to even play in the NFL. This is Bananas Yeah, which is ridiculous, so this is the part that I think of when I think of the racism, because it's like the sort of racists double standard applied the guys like Cam in Jamison. Obviously cap while a bunch of mediocrities take up space on the NFL rosters right 'cause. It was I came Knicks of the bears who said a few weeks ago. How he knew the cat wasn't playing. Again is when they signed Mike Glennon. Right, and in my lifetime, black cubeys light cam who've been athletic, you know what people think that they lead with their athletic talent. They sort of overlook all the other things that you need to maintain the league so I think about a guy like Vince, young, who's done at twenty eight, Aaron Brooks and Dunn it thirty Kordell Stewart done as a start at twenty nine Robert Griffin the third isn't even thirty years old, and it's sort of us belief that he's done with the League and they these very these black. Black quarterbacks that people consider to be dual threats have these really short runs in the league. They don't get a chance to sort of see out the second half of their career when the game slows down, they you know they've seen all the differences. They're are going to see in the NFL. So that's what I'm really interested to see with cam now like what is the second half of his career going to be like? Is he going to get a second half of his career and Ken we for Cam. Unlikely, but can people get over these stereotypes about black quarterbacks who suffer an injury who don't have the same? What what are the sort of gifts that they are bestowed with and credited with early in their career that you know we're all we all WANNA see Lamar Jackson run, and we want to discount the fact that Oh, you mean. He's also an incredibly accurate passer and is developing as a pocket quarterback. We don't want to see that. We don't want to acknowledge that. As a lot of white fans, don't so that that stereotype is ingrained and the other stereotype with Cam that I think we're going to have to see if people can let go of. Of Is this idea that he's some sort of Prima Donna, which is also rooted in Racism Freeman Sports Writer tweeted over the weekend or last night on Sunday night after Campbell signed for people who've never interviewed camera any of his teammates, and only traffic and stereotypes about him note the following one can as an excellent work ethic to. He's a good teammate three. He's smart. This has been my cam talk. The fact that someone needs to step up and say these things is outrageous, and it reflects where we are as a culture as sports fans. "And the other thing is they still have a guy in Chicago that they want to win the starting job mistake, the bears would love Mitch Trubisky to win that job to continue as a quarterback because that's a guy that they've invested so much in, and they WANNA be right in the end. They want to be right about Mitch Trubisky, whereas in this case with New England. It was an opportunity that presented itself because they really didn't rush to go out and trade. Randy donor signed once he became free or plug somebody and they they took. More patient approach now I did ask this I said how how quickly did this thing come together with? The Patriots and I'm told that it came together really quickly. At asterisk on that nobody knows how long belichick himself was kind of monitoring this by himself so all along. We've been talking about. Yeah, they seem like they're kind of. We can't rule it out in old, but but they're not making a strong push for Cam. Newton is because Bella tick was kind of monitoring the whole time, and probably waiting to the point where Newton said you know what I'll take this deal because you know what I can come in and I can play for the best coach in the League and reestablished myself. Show everybody I'm healthy and now I can hit a big number next offseason. Was a note out there from Adam Schefter that the browns don't buy those words here I mean if if Ian was on the show right now, he would just blast you into space, but even with Mike it can be. Ace. Another newsman out there offered this up that the browns had looked into cam. Newton, which the timing. It's needs to be unpacked would have happened after they signed case keenum. If you go by the time when the Panthers said goodbye to Cam, Newton which I find to be an interesting wrinkle now. I was also told at some point by Andrew Berry. because I was asking about something and had a conversation with him at some point, and he said you don't like we're. I'm in on everything. And he worked with Howie Roseman who is in on every ever notice how many times the eagles are linked to play because they're in on everything. because. You just never know what you're going to come up with. If you investigate so I I believe it was more along those lines and berry being new on the job there. Thoroughness. The TRAE, but the Douglas is from the Eagles Tree. That's why I picked up the phone. The cowboys called come on, Jamaa, that's smart teams do. They wouldn't it wouldn't have been? It might have been smart for the jets on Cam Newton. That's the type of team where. It where it's like you're being a little afraid of making a good move. Plan. You want to work your Chicago you want. This plan is not working. According to our eyesight, it must work, and so you don't go out and get the better quarterback I think that's why two thirds of the League are not competitive with new. England and I think it's import-, yeah, I just WanNa say to to Greg's point. The jets love Sam Darnold Greg. You don't you don't seem to like him someone like. My. My point is having right, but they have to. At least maybe they don't, but they have to live in a world where there's other options a darn get hurt, but be like it. What do we do if we're six games into the season and it's going terribly like have other routes. Maybe possibly will be open open to like. Would he come in for two million? But no, I get Joe Douglas would not be confident in Adam Gates to handle that situation so. That's sort of. That's what I mean. You have to play afraid when you're not confident in your own building. I would I would just. Go back to Richard Sherman was upset about what other folks might be saying about how. The Patriots let this happen. Could you imagine? I mean go go LE-. Let's stick with the jets. Let's stick with the jets. Go back to Tim. tebow coming in behind Mark Sanchez. If you don't think that was a net negative effect on Sanchez. Really it's. Like this circus well, and and what was the line want one time Sanchez. Let his guard down. It was like on a Friday and it got a little bit of attention. He said Oh selling seats and somebody asked him about t-bone he's. Selling seats man like basically saying it was, it was a promotional thing, and you could see the frustration on his face when he said that, and it was just a little peek into. Of course, he didn't want this side show share with them now they both weren't that great at playing quarterback that would have been true. No matter what in need to find a quarterback that can, that is good at playing quarterback in have have options and not not be afraid. Maybe it didn't make sense for for this jets team in particular, but I just mean in general like why be afraid of winning different types of ways having other plans. If you're a plan is not working and listened. Bella chick is not afraid in that. Other coaches are afraid right so and they could still I mean this is a guaranteed contracts. Theoretically jared stood up could still beat Cam Newton Cam Newton for the starting job, but as I described it on the air earlier, my belief based on the conversations that I've had Since this thing went down, is it's CAM versus Cam Right? If Cam comes in and his healthy and shows that he can play good football again. It's camera runaway. There's no question about that. Despite the fact that now you're GONNA have to. Tweak your offense. Okay, and you'RE GONNA. Have to do it in a year where you didn't have a spring and you're gonNA. Have maybe a not. Maybe you're definitely gonNA have some kind of abbreviated training camp, and maybe To to know preseason games, so this is a team. That's not afraid to do that because they've done it. For Twenty years now granted they did it with Brady at quarterback, but the point is they trusted the guys around Brady to be able to make those adjustments, not only year to year weak, the weak and record, according to drive to drive be able to to make these judgments. If something's not working scrap the game plan, and let's go back to some of the stuff that maybe we haven't done since training camp. That's why the timing is is. Crucial because they now have this month to get that offense ready, and of course they're going to be planning like an offense in into Richard. Sermons initial point I think we've talked about this he. Kim's out a lot of bad luck. I think in his career. He certainly has with the injuries last couple. This off. season was bad luck to be any quarterback looking for Joe. Andy, Dalton getting if you had told me at the beginning of the Austin. Andy Dalton was going to sign for two or three. I would have been. been shocked by that now I. Cairns are just having such a great moment right now. Do you think Karen is GonNa win? Time person of the year I think it should I mean having dynasty. The only thing I can see is now. The Cairns are starting to get in on the joke and like self referencing. They're careless, right? It's once we start calling people Karen. I think that's kind of the line where it becomes not cool anymore. It's incredible this many people just keep losing it in public. Not Realizing. They're going to be videotaped every single time I'm like. You realize you're being videotaped oriented. Trust here. Yeah, so scout's honor. This is only for big cat and Hank and billion bubba Jake. It's usually something important, but whenever I see Karen, video gets me going. It's like a little bit of that craziness like. "A little bit of a Teddy Bridgewater to the saints type vibe to it where. Cam Newton is probably GONNA get a chance to play two or three very critical games for the steelers in place. A Big Ben. Just based on history. That's a roll of the dice. And if he does he's an offense that can sing right away. You're not dealing with a a bottom five scenario there cam newton come in to be very productive being immediate fan favourite. The defense is a super bowl defense and you can trust. Mike. Tomlin do right by you. And while I don't like the idea of Cam Newton going in having to blow up a young rookie starter. Who A team believes in? I do like this as a super bowl window operation. They certainly see themselves that way. Even if maybe some. You'RE NOT A playoff contender. Getting stronger at quarterback we. They have nothing behind big band that I trust at this point. It blew up their season a year ago. I think it's a great situation for the players around if big Ben goes down and Look Cam Newton. Maybe someone you could use in that offense alongside Big Ben and I would say this is a final note. We need to see what Big Ben is. If there's any reason he's sixty percent of big band or his beard is weighing down too much. I know he got a he. Looks looks real sharp right now but big Ben. Injuries sidelined this team. Too many times over the course of his long and celebrated run with the Pittsburgh steelers Cam. Newton makes a lot of sense. We need to start looking at Ben Rothlisberger as a different case here. This is not drew. Lock this is not Dwayne Haskins. This is a guy that has been a star for a long time. So the idea of bringing in Cam Newton would create a circus. You can't have Ben Rothlisberger and Cam Newton on the same roster together. It is not a situation. That's going to do anything but the steelers into a circus. That's not what this organization is about. They don't do things that way. They do. Not Bring ten Tibo in they don't do a circus tight maneuvers at a desperation. And I think the way here is to look at what Big Ben's doing and his workouts and his rehabs and what we're seeing That he just released video That he's throwing the ball. He looks good. He looked he looked a little bulbous. I'm going to be fair. It's a little heavier last time at the at the end of last season. But you see them throwing and working out This past week and he looks like Big Ben to me and now to to come any other and alleviate any other fears mark he is trimming the beard back. So you don't have that scary Mount Man vibe to a guy that's lost all grip with society and he's GonNa go Ted Kaczynski in a cabin somewhere. This man's ready to play football and play at a high level. And I don't eat Cam Newton coming in here and mucking up the whole situation. No disrespect to the former. Mvp All right. Well God speed with your Bulbous quarterback formerly bulbous temporarily bulbous phone. Can I tag in here? Christopher Darden who what does this circus talk? How is this any different than drew? Brees and Jameis Winston. You make it clear that Cam Newton's the backup he's an upgrade on Mason Rudolph and then you fly drew drew brees. It is not well said it's poorly said twelve rows burgers a hall of Famer. So is your breeze. No Ben Rothlisberger is a halt. They were Cam. Newton is an MVP. You're likening CAM. Newton to Jameis Winston gets. Nobody knows what can't is in the summer two years ago. Jameis Winston is a deeply inconsistent quarterback who through so many interceptions this past year. That the fact that he threw thirty plus touchdown five thousand yards was wiped away. He got dumped and had to sign almost at the veteran. Minimum Cam Nunes a former MVP. At least I quarterback position in the last decade. You can't compare the two guys it would. It's a totally different scenario in terms of what it does. Hey peyton manning's available to what happened. Two years ago doesn't matter all right. We go to the judge. Well obviously not going well. Despite the first use of I've heard since description of Bill Clinton's nose those pretty much the only time I've ever heard the word boneless. It's always about that bowl and really strong arguments. I gotta go with. The prosecution marks destler here gutless behavior by the steelers mark needed to win. That's fine final. One how dare you? This is the plaintiff Chris Wrestling. He believes that the Patriots decision to part ways with Tom Brady then failed to address. The quarterback position in a substantial way has set up the Organization for a potential incompetence in twenty twenty. He's suing for franchise negligence and belief in false. Gods this.

"So Jordan. What would you say is the state of the Carolina Panthers now that they've made this big change a quarterback? Oh my gosh is that I mean I guess that's the best way to summon up there kind of in purgatory. Honestly I would say and they are not rebuilding completely from the ground up. If you don't sign a guy like teddy bridgewater. Who can win you football games? It's your completely tearing everything down and rebuilding. So it's almost like a half rebuild half retool and all of it's going to happen on the fly. There's still a split opinion about whether they should tear the whole thing down and rebuild or whether they are going to try to Winston Games in two thousand twenty in and I think by bringing in Teddy Bridgewater. They've made it clear that they are going to try to win. Games in twenty twenty and in the draft. I believe they're going to start bringing in guys who are going to be core pieces and core players. Who are going to buy into Matt role but I think that there's some skepticism and some healthy skepticism. I would say that the warning or the thing to be cautious about is. Can you build something that will win on a sustainable basis if your foundation is shaky and you know throughout this whole drama Cam has actually been very clear about his desire to stay in? Carolina? Have you ever wondered if he's too loyal? Perhaps I just wanted to sometimes be like I get that you love the community here and I understand how powerful place it can be in how welcoming and it can feel so much like home but they are not set up for success for you now. At this point I think with his kind of he's he's out of the forest. A little bit in terms of the situation is settled down a little bit. He's now looking at other rosters. He's now seeking out other potential options. And if I'm him I've got a feel a little positive about that. Because there are situations that are built for someone like him to be successful. There are better. You know offensive. Line's out there. There are teams that have taken care of guys in that regard and so for him. I would think he almost. Mike feel little relief that all of this is over and this long eight months dance that they've done back and forth between these camps and all of the narratives because now what he can do is he can focus on football and and you know that's his first love and and that's what he is all about Jordan. You found yourself in the middle of some CAM controversy a few years ago when you asked him a question about running routes and he kind of scoffed at the idea of a woman reporter talking about roots this funny to hear female talk about routes. He was widely criticized at the time. He actually lost some sponsorship deals. But in reading your writing since and in talking to you since you seem to have genuinely enjoyed covering Cam Newton I think you can you can have messy moments and you can feel messy about something or someone for a moment and things can be complicated and hurtful and that does not change how you should treat people and Cam. Every single day treats people with respect Cam. Newton is apologizing understand. A word choice was extremely. They great in and disrespectful to limit. If you are a person who took offence to what I said. I sincerely apologize and so to me. It was really important to me and I will forever be grateful that despite you know a brief and messy time that never prevented us from being kind to each other anyway. So when all of a sudden done. What's next for Cam Newton well? I don't know what the charges are doing waiting so long to sign the guy but I mean clearly. Nobody in that building in Los Angeles has ever been to a Panther's game with him. Newton in his heyday. Because let me tell you that guy puts butts and seat for me. That's a franchise that could really use a little in pardon the pun but electricity in that regard and. I think that CAM is a great fit. You know. I'd like to see it personally. You know I don't cover them anymore so I don't have to be unbiased and in a biased way. I hope he goes somewhere. That sets them up for success so few people on. It's so rare to end things on your own terms in the NFL. I think they can. Newton might be that rare of a player. Could maybe have a chance at doing that. We'll Jordan thank you so much for joining us. Even if you did throw in a chargers pawn unexpectedly for having me you can read Jordan Rodrigues coverage of the Carolina Panthers at the Athletic Dot Com. Here are some other stories. We're following at the lead. It's been business mostly as usual for the NFL. During the corona virus pandemic and that continued on Tuesday when the League announced its plans for the twenty twenty regular season on a conference call. All of our focus has been on a normal traditional season starting on time playing in front of fans in her regular stadiums and going through full sixteen game regular season and the NFL also announced on Tuesday that owners have approved the new fourteen playoff format which means seven teams from each conference will make the postseason instead of six and though the League plans to start season on time the release of the season schedule has been delayed from April until may also on Tuesday New Orleans Saints Head. Coach Sean Payton who told USA. Today that he's quote one hundred percent recovered from the corona virus made an appearance on ESPN and apparently broke. Some news on behalf of Drew Brees. The unique situation with our team and with our quarterback drew brees is. He's announced he's coming back for its final season. Brees who turned forty one in January. Signed eight two year. Fifty million dollar deal with the saints a couple of weeks ago and. Dr. James Andrews has decided to temporarily stop performing Tommy John Surgeries at his facility in Florida. A spokesperson for Andrew is a statement saying quote we are not performing any non urgent or non emergent procedures including Tommy John. Surgery in compliance with the governor's executive order we are adhering to these restrictions and all such cases are suspended at this time. Tommy John Surgery. And whether it's medically necessary has been a topic of discussion recently with two Star pitchers Chris sale of the red sox and Noah syndergaard of the mets both undergoing the procedure within the last week. That's it for today. Thanks for listening from wondering on the athletic. I'm beat the Davidson and I'm under skelter see.

"So Jordan the news that Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers were actually going to part ways came as a surprise to some people. But when did we I see the writing on the wall here so we at the Athletic Carolina myself and my beat partner Joe Person. We reported this after week. Two and ham had been kind of coming back. Ever so slowly from This Freak Foot Injury Carolina. Panthers think he's going to be okay. The initial x rays were negative. It is a sprained ankle right now. He wasn't a walking boot booth that we saw him leaving the stadium and they're going to give him more xrays today to make a final determination. But I can tell you that being told by various people within the organization. You're don't worry about the foot don't worry about. But and he came back and he didn't quite look himself than than against Tampa Bay in week. Two there was a really striking moment when at the very end of the game on the goal line and they did not give him the ball. They gave it to Christian. Mccaffrey instead. Direct snap faked. Toss McCaffrey depends where they put it. What a play by Hargraves hat on the edge in he did not get it todd. Bowles defense was not fooled. What a play and the play failed and they lost the game and something was super off at that point. It was well known that he had just a year left on his contract and so there was a lot of thought that if they were going to extend him this foot injury kind of threw everything off and not just the foot but a new owner and back to back shoulder surgeries. So there's a lot of things sort of stacked up against and then the freak foot injury happened so it was really difficult to know when he would be okay. That sort of started escalating into the middle of the season and then with four games left head coach. Ron Rivera was fired. It was a bad idea. I don't think they should have fired him now. I don't think they should have fired. Ron Rivera period Rivera with Cam Newton. When to the Super Bowl in two thousand fifteen? The year before that he was seven that was kind of the writing on the wall. It felt like because he and Ron Rivera had been tied since two thousand eleven. Ron was the guy who drafted him. Still know the panthers were not coming out and talking about it and they were saying giving themselves the caveat like well. We'll talk about it when he's healthy and give us till when he's healthy and when he's healthy get back to me deserves to be said how hard he's working into. Rehab into the. Panthers have an in house video production team. They released a sponsor documentary episode. That was reiterating that rules comments at the combine in Indianapolis about how much he wanted Cam Newton to be his quarterback and how much he was looking forward to working with him and having him on his football team. I'm going to go up there and say I can't wait for him to be healthy. I can't wait for a chance to work with them. I'm excited about the future with him and excited about who he is. But at the same time behind the scenes it was very much apparent that there is a trade market that they were trying to sort of manufacturer for him. Things started escalating through the spring and Cam. Newton went out on Radio Road Super Bowl and said he had had some really great and optimistic conversations with new head coach Matt rule or are you going to be back in Carolina like. Are you sure you're going to be a panther? Absolutely talked about rule is it. Yes Sir I. As a matter of fact you know the devastating to not have the coach who drafted you. Let's say you've got to turn. The page had unbelievable conversation with Mardi Harney GM David Surfer the owner as well as you know cultural the the new head coach and I left. That meeting inspired not only in talk. I'm not you won't find another person in that in that locker with more to prove not only to you poodle to myself and ultimately even though he was able to pass physical and gave them quote unquote the Healthy Cam Newton. They announced that they were going to part ways with him. The press release was so odd. The press release said we have given Cam Newton permission to seek a trade and then they went on to list all of his injuries at the bottom of the press release. I don't think I've ever seen a press. Release that says. Hey We'd like to trade this player. Also here's how her he's been and Newton got on instagram and said I never asked for this one of the videos. He says all I do is work. That's all I know. They gave up on me. Don't know more word play. Don't manipulate to narrative. You forced me into this. We reported at the athletic that just hours after releasing that best released that they had agreed to terms with Teddy Bridgewater. The former backup quarterback New Orleans saints. Get your chilling. It'll be conceived a trade the Carolina Panthers or releasing quarterback Cam Newton with no shooters coming in and having signed Teddy Bridgewater. Two or three or sixty three billion dollar deal last week. That was only a matter of time according to our NFL insiders. He was going to be there next quarterback for the next three years and so I've heard a lot of comparisons to this is like if you were dating somebody and you tell them. I'm giving you permission to see other people. Also here's my new boyfriend girlfriend. How have panthers fans reacted to all of this drama fans have not taken it while just heard and I saw over the panthers and ceremonial over Twitter Instagram? That Camden is now to seek trade on so sad. We've had since two thousand eleven has hope he goes somewhere where you can succeed. Because that's all I want from him. There has never been a player in the Carolinas. Who has drawn? I think such passionate support and really moved people in the way that he has and so for them to kind of in glamorously kind of dumped him by the wayside even though logically and people knew this was logically a very real option. And you know we had kind of talked at nauseam about this thing actually happening. It's still the way it happened was really jarring and I think something that really upset. A lot of people will in. It's worth remembering just how Cam Newton became so beloved in Carolina Jordan. Can you just remind us? What was it like when he first came onto the team? Yeah you know it's it's it's not just like oh you've got a great number one overall pick. You have one of the Best College. Football players of all time controlled as as adult. Your lives up in the backfield and Cam Camp Lou on this. You're talking about heisman. Trophy winner that has not thrown a single incomplete. Pass the opening drive this season and one that hasn't committed a turnover in the fourth quarter. The progression everywhere inbetween has been up scaling that Charlotte's a small city. It has aspirations. But it's still a small city and Cam. Newton was really the first time that they became a global brand. And you know you got just some the really ugly people coming out of the woodwork. For All of the time that he was here and there were some ugly things that people said but to the WHO really look to him and saw Cam for what he was. They saw someone who played with joy someone who played with more heart than almost anybody out there on the field. Somebody who could do ingenious things with the football bend time and space like it. It's just I still can't believe some of the things I've him do. Purchase Time Newton. Nowhere to go but he got the first down with a leap over various Butler for eleven yards. Kiss not supposed to happen this way what he has done to the game the evolution of NFL defense's had to change had to speed up just for him. His knick's Taylor. Jones setting space goes to the highway to not be the greatest. Playoff seed can long time. This is a national football league and he makes four New England patriots. Miss you had to draft different types of linebackers and defensive linemen and even corners safeties just to counter. Can you talk about what kind of figure he grew to be locally when he first got to Charlotte there? Is this this big sense that he wanted to help kids out and he wanted help the youth out and he started this thing called the Sunday giveaway? And so every time he'd score a touchdown throw a touchdown pass or he'd run one in himself. That ball would go to a kid in the end zone with His Jersey. Ready to take it home happy. You know you hear stories from these kids who are now teenagers. You hear stories from their parents on social media in emails where that still remains you know the greatest day that Kid's life and that could have been all that he did but instead he took it upon himself to create the Cam Newton Foundation which he was helped run by several really altruistic way. Great people who just wanted to help their community and he fed thousands and thousands and thousands of families on Thanksgiving and Christmas every single year. It became like the events of the year incident. I S here tonight. You know these to see this cycle or sees as right now. Hope somebody remember just for the rest of their lives This is the annual event that I will want to do for a long time for. Never turn people away. What do you think it meant for young local black kids in the Charlotte area to see Cam? Newton thrive I can't specifically obviously speak from that perspective but I can say that from the interactions that I saw with him and young black kids young black boys and girls who may be going to you know their first game. It was always just.

"Everything that Cam has done for the panthers and everything old the the narrative the language coming out of the Panthers Organization which seems in conflict with. What's actually happened in the way that they've treated in? It would kind of make sense to what they really got to risk as you rightly point out with the space. They've got compared to other to give him give him another season and see. I want to get your perspective. Russ on another fairly. Powerful perspective suddenly held by a lot of people that Cam Newton is a difficult customer. Now not saying this necessarily affects how he performs on the field but people number media certainly a lot of fans have an issue with him. And I guess to me. It is partly because of his personality and demeanor and approach. Compared to a lot of other quarterbacks right so fans gravitate towards the good boy Brett farve Connor Khanna quarterbacks or the kind of steely shirty veteran smarts of Brady or Peyton even a rivers right kind of no nonsense all all the Moxie of someone like Baker. You know That that seems to be what fans like. Then you get quarterbacks like Eli who? Because he's laid back in a little bit understated we're not sure. And and then he Jay Cutler if Jay had the same level of performance but didn't have the attitude. I think we'd be looking at him and looking. He's not favor but I think we'd be looking back at his career in different ways. Cam seems to have fallen in his own way into that trap. A bit because in press conferences he has being a time seemingly quite surly quite dismissive. He's got quite a gregarious sartorial style as well. Which kind of plays into this perspective? I saw one call and in particular that was cooling came out after the super bowl loss calling him out. He's press conference performance often and that she put the Bayton the QNA to four or five different questions that come up to that and we using this as evidence to say he's got not cheap problem look the way he dealt with defeat here throw some of in a you'll know well but for the benefit of listed and maybe look at this recent. Throw them out there. What is Newton's message? This is after the loss to Denver. What is commune's message to Panthers? Fans and supporters his onto. We'll be back. Why didn't the Panthers Play Lab will season? They outplayed us. Why did this catch Rome? Rivera's say sorry. What did he say Roma very in the Locker Room? He told us a lot of things. The Denver thirty different defects not GonNa get a patent is giving pretty clips almost mono-syllabic answers but with the exception of maybe the wrong of airline. I'd have a problem with any of this rust. Like he's just lost the Super Bowl. He said we'll be back. They were better than us and yet after that they were people. Were absolutely slagging him off and that seems to have never left him so I guess getting my point. Deep Breath finally the people misconstrued Cam. Newton is the perception. These GONNA cheat a little bit. Unfair I think is well I think He's a very polarizing guy. Personality wise there are people that really really love him and they love everything he does. You know the fashion the way he conducts his interviews etc and there and there are others that feel like there's sort of like how you just described if you looked at his body language after the super bowl sort of a a lack of professionalism right And and certainly there. Are those that argue. Hey He does lost the super bowl you know. How do you want them to react? But you can look at the other quarterbacks that have lost the Super Bowl and they still don't have the same body language or mannerisms or personality that he does I don't think ultimately it's that big a deal but he does seem to be emotional. He does seem to when things are going well. He's high and things are going poorly though he really does seem to get low and I don't think that's a good thing for the rest of the team. I had one of his former teammates. Tell me one time. He's not really the guy you want when things aren't going well right and that's a pretty damning thing to say about about a starting quarterback and that was a you know t-. May just telling me as a former player that and wasn't looking to. You know disparage Ame. Which is being honest that he has a tough time dealing with adversity at times. Okay fat point. Well put interesting inside that. Let's talking of his teammates then. Let's get onto them the teammates he's left behind in Carolina and and in particular your piece for the athletic which will push out a link through on our on our social channels as well regarding Christian. Mccaffrey who of course? He's the the cart superstar as far as the panthers a consent without overstating it and being ridiculous to say. He singlehandedly carried the panthers last season. He wasn't actually for all right. Let's be honest. He wasn't far. Off AND BURIES IT interesting crossroads. I guess for him now. Given as you suggest many respects the pad this field. They're in a transitional phase. He's coming into.

"But the, the video does show him going back to his economy class stage social media event. Not with Cam Newton. I love that. That's what how Cam Newton travels in that outfit like look like it was wait a minute hosts game. How ridiculous is this theory of a means that Cam Newton want the attention about being turned like Cam Newton stage social media? Vent is where you go with. Why, like why? Why, why, why not wait for another flight? He's in a patient already missed ones Cam Newton, and he's impeached in Paris. What are you what, are, you know rush for now? And now he's, but I'm just saying, like, once they say, hey, man, you missed your direct flight. We can get you, but it's a connected to Dallas and you have to take the, the, the coach class from Dallas Charlotte. What did you say, what's the next direct flight from Paris to Charlotte clearly, he was man, that was in a hurry? Then if he was willing to go through if he was willing to jump through those hoops, wearing that outfit jump to what hoops hoops, fifteen hundred dollars to you guys, fifteen hundred dollars that doesn't tash offensive to for doesn't. I think the reason that's a good amount of money to offer in cash for anything. The reason this is something that we're all interested in is why what is the reason because he's willing to do that is the reason because he's flying coach is the reason because he turned it turned it was turned down because Cam Newton's flying coach wearing that outfit because he got rejected and. He had to just put his tail between his legs and go back to. So what's the number? Where do I have to put the number where you guys would be saying, man, how do you reject that? I was at possible that you reject that fifteen hundred dollars cash. I mean dude is obviously doing very well. This could not have been a flight from Dallas to Charlotte because it says that he was he was, it was a ten hour flay. That's not a ten hour play. Ten hours from Paris to Dallas another multiple reports out here. I wanna hear all of that. I want to hear all of us later scoop, I want you guys to give me all the reports from every corner of our gathering information kingdom, except the, the Knicks pressroom where some people are banned from the new York Daily News. We'll get to that with a mean in the second you think this was an affront to the man's whiteness? Do you. We have to ask somebody white. Where's to God's Chris, Chris? I'm just looking at this video more. It are we sure that the guy that he offered this to wasn't just more legroom coach seat. It was the extra legroom like he thought because the way you said it before is that he was asking a guy in first class for his ticket. I don't think that's the case. It's a guy in coach, just with more leg, the bulkheads seat, the one on the front, you know, I'm talking about additional legroom Lou now, the, it's an interesting time because, of course it does. Nobody in first class needs is fifteen hundred dollars at a guy Konami. Does let's assume this guy paid for four tickets though, so maybe he spent like 'cause, you know, he could be traveling with people offer. Let's pretend he's with a group of four he paid for all of them. So now he's spent. Maybe you know thirteen fourteen hundred bucks right on four tickets. So he's doing the math, do I want all the money back, but I have to go sit in some middle seat, I would have just negotiated to double it. Who's he? Who's he traveling with? Is he with a child? Is he gonna leave his? Child loan for an extended period of time. Was it a ten hour flight? Was it a two hour? Maybe he's got maybe he has his twenty four year old daughter with him who he doesn't wanna leave 'em new next to for ten hours..
