You know, love his bam bam cam type of attitude. But I'm not a big fan of his business. You know, him as the president, as the president of the team. But before this season started, he came out in his pre season press conference and said, we've got a special group here that's really, seems like they are willing to go on out on a line for each other. And I'm paraphrasing that, of course. But to have it all come out like this, it's just, it's almost poetic. You know what I mean? It's like it's almost scripted, my man. And

"Like this Boston for once team right now is so gel together. It's disgustingly weird that they're all doing it under a new coach and new regime, whatever you want to call it. It's just something that I thought would take a little time. I did not expect this at all. Shout out to Kevin O'Keefe. He's a co host on this block called hockey podcast. He was all gas and no brakes. Several times over the freaking off season same. He's got a feeling that this team is going to be very special. Him and cam Neely said the same thing, so it's got to be, it's got to be good. So while we're on the subject of restructuring the schedule, I have another topic that I would like to talk about. I forgot to bring this up to you that needs restructuring. Uh oh, go for it. Over time. Oh. Let's hear it. Let's hear it. So I think back to, I think it was the king's game where it went to the a round. And they lost the amount of time it took to go through that, that shoot out. They could have had another 5 minute, you know, they could have had a full ten minute overtime, a three on three. You know what I mean? Like, the shootout is the worst. Yeah. And I've actually had several conversations. I don't know about if it was on the podcast or not. I'm sure somebody will let me know. Later on, sometime this week, if I mentioned this, but I like the idea and I wish I could give credit to the person who actually mentioned this. I've got it in my head. I like the idea of going four on four for 5 minutes. Right? The first whistle, a right around. All right, so ten minute overtime. Let's start off with that, okay? Four and four for the first 5. The first whistle right around the 5 minute mark, or it could go forward all the way down to three on three. Okay. I just think it increases your chances to get those two points that much quicker. I hate the shootout. When you have an overtime game winner, it is so much more exciting than a stupid shootout. Yeah. It's a skills competition. It's just the goalie in the shooter. That's it. Right. It's the same crap you see in an all style game. Was it Mick colangelo, I think, said that the one thing the one difference between this year and the previous years is to ask hated the shut up. He did the shootout. So you knew that, you know what I mean? And it was like, oh great, we're going to a shootout. I mean, the brewers were in notoriously horrible in the shadow. Now you have all Mark and slamming who don't hate the shootout.

But it was a pretty significant role that somebody came in and did the vetting process and basically said that the brass and bronze did and it didn't do anything wrong. But we all, you know, the common decision whether they did something wrong or not. Yeah. I mean, somebody had to know that this backlash was going to happen. And to be expected and fully accountable, the burns management dropped the ball on this in my opinion, but they also, I mean, cam Neely also came out and said that we didn't do we didn't do our job to the fullest. We really let a lot of people down on this decision and they have to be better. So at least he's coming out and saying that they're being accountable about it. But still, I just don't like the idea that they're paying this kid money for the things that he did. I don't agree with that. And I've been a long time for once fan for a well over 40 years. That particular day really hit me hard. It was like, wow, this is, this is how we're going to look now, you know? I mean, but the perfect gets me is that yes. We know the bruins messed up. I mean, they did. They messed up. But I still don't get how the contract was registered. And then Batman comes out and says, he's not eligible to play. Yeah. It seems to me that there's just so much more that went on there that we'll never know. We will never know. You know what I mean? If he's not eligible, then why did the contract get registered? One thing I want to touch on is what you're talking about right there is that particular time when Batman didn't know about the registered contract Batman was overseas with a lot of his the league officials and so on, doing, I think like a kind of like a board of governors kind of meeting international. Okay. And is it weird that they would do that while he's out of the country? It's almost like it's almost like firing your coach during a patriots celebration parade in Boston. I mean, the fact that when they signed him, all they did was put the logo up. They didn't put a picture or they didn't blast it. Someone somewhere knew, this is not a good idea. It just seems sneaky to me. It's just kind of like, you know, I'm a little bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to stuff like this. So I kind of like, wow, well, the commissioner and the deputy commissioner are both out doing international things. And then this fucking happens. So I don't know. Yeah. "Welcome to the bruins beat on CL and S media my name is Evan Marino. I hope you guys are having a great day. A great week. And it is a very, very, very busy week at bat. There's a lot going on in the world of the bruins. You got development camp. You had the gym Montgomery introductory press conference. You had the Jacobs speaking, cam Neely and Don Sweeney speaking. And then Wednesday got free agency, which is the majority of this episode, a preview for the bruins of free agency. What will they do? What can they do? This is not like last year when they had tons of cap space. It was like 20 million in cap space last year. This year it is down to 2.3 million in current cap space. So Connor and I got into what that all means. What they will end up doing. And that was the majority today's show and what the big, you know, some big fish, I guess, that they could go after some under the radar fish. They could also go after. So very fun episode, very interesting episode. It's always fun when there's a lot to talk about in the summer, because as you guys all know, when the dog days of August hits, it's like, ah, season's coming up. Yeah, she's gonna be real fun. Anyways, without further ado, here's my conversation. With Connor Ryan.

"Oh, it's their fault. It's their doing. It's not like it's posture Nox fault. It isn't his. But again, I think if you're right, in the sense that I think even if they are going to rebuild for a year or two, they should pitch them on like we expect you to be a leader. Like you have a chance here to be the next generation. You get to be the next bergeron in the sense of the leader a young leader in the room type thing. But if he doesn't, if he comes into the meeting and says guys, I don't want to be part of a rebuild. I want to be a contender. I want to be on a really good team with a better ownership and better front office. Got to trade him. Got him. Can't let him walk for nothing. Because a lot of guys have walked out of here for nothing a lot over the past bunch of years. And it's all been different situations. It's not like it's all cut and dry. Like Chara's was very different than tuca RAS and two grass with different from creature. Again, the issue is the succession plan. It was never like, oh, they walked for nothing. It was more like, you had nothing in place. Goaltending a little bit more obviously than you did with Chara. And creature. Because again, if paschal walks for nothing, you've known about this for a while. So again, I think, you know, if he explicitly says, I don't want to be part of a rebuild and the bruins are set on doing a rebuild, which by the way, I don't think will happen. But if it does, I mean, he gets you a first, maybe two firsts, maybe a first top prospect, you know, young NHL player kind of spearheads the new rebuild, which, again, I don't love, I don't think that's good, and I don't think that's what's gonna end up happening. But again, if he comes in, I don't want this but Evans says they have to trade astronaut. I'm saying, if he walks in and says, I don't want to be part of a rebuild, and the bruins say they are doing a rebuild. That's all I'm saying. Not saying that you should be traded. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying, if that is the case, then you have to. You can't just be like, oh, cool, we're gonna play out the season with you. We'll revisit in a few months. And then let him walk for nothing. You can't do that. So again, a lot of big things. These are huge decisions and I don't think anyone is confident in the front office to make them. I will pose this as well, right? If cam Neely's calling the shots up there, and I know him and Sweeney your Friends, so I don't think this is gonna happen. But you think there's any chance that Sweeney, they walk back on Sweeney's extension too, with all the blowback they've gotten. They are conscious to this stuff. Do you think there's any chance that they say, you know what, John, we're actually not going to do the extension. Well, Evan, they have not announced his contract yet. So that's for me. That's what I mean. It's coming out. I was afraid I haven't looked at my phone in ten minutes. I was afraid you're about to bring that up. You've got it. But yeah, I mean, it's definitely a legitimate thing to consider because again, you look at, I think, for Brunson, it's one thing. The first wave of like, why are you firing Cassidy? Why is he the scapegoat? All these things. And now I think the second way that's I think people are realizing now, especially when you get what Cassidy talked about of just kind of getting the rug pulled out from under him..

"Stats. Where are the games? Stats. I want to read you a quote. From cam Neely, I was a couple weeks ago. There's some of that. There's no question players being afraid to make mistakes, especially younger players because you hear about it. I was one of those players I had to learn bro I heard about it too when I made mistakes as younger player. You can't worry about not getting back out there. I think that's one of the things we have to change. When younger players make mistakes, they're worried they're not going to play the next game. Well, that game is still going on. What's interesting is that would lead you to believe that they want a new coach because they are going to go in a younger direction, right? And that would kind of make sense. As we said, okay, that's palatable. You want to rebuild whatever. And we already said, it doesn't make sense if Sweeney's staying for them to rebuild. That just doesn't make any sense. They did it with Shirley. It lets you go. Brian Sweeney, right? Are they promoted Sweeney? But it's weird. Given that they would say that and then go out and get a version and bring back bergeron and bring back creature, right? And I think we've all agreed that bergeron needs to come back. But the problem is you get bergeron and creature, right? You throw your really good coach under the bus, right? We're going to speculate probably later on what he ends up doing. But you throw your really good coach under the bus. You bring those guys back. As we have said, that is just pushing the big problem down the road. Now from their perspective, I think they see it as it's buying time. It's buying time because that's a huge problem. You don't have centers of the future. You don't. They absolutely do not. Charlie Coyle is not stepping in as your number one center, Eric holla, is not either Eric, it's hard to even, you know, he was good in the second half, not great in the playoffs, hard to go into the next season where he's your permanent number two center. So you have those issues. Creature and bergeron come back, you do buy some time, but you're just pushing the problem back further..

"And that's kind of changed recently. He takes the assignments he can guard everybody. So like my value of Marcus smart is exponentially risen. So he's probably number two for me. And then I think it's match up base whether you want to go Jalen or rob. They're both obviously important. And then you've got out. So these 5 players, I mean, it's no secret why you're in the position that you're right now. These guys have really found their stride this season. They have grown up in most cases. There are still the moments where you want to pull your hair out because they don't act the mature way that you want to see them out there. But generally speaking, the way this teams played together, I think it was, I think it was van Gundy who said it tonight. He thinks the Celtics are the favorites to win the whole thing. And he said that when they were down two to one in the series. So there's a lot of people not just Celtics fans or Celtics postgame show that are starting to believe and do believe in this Celtics team as the best team in the league. Yeah. That's the thing. I mean, we all came around, obviously, you know, they go on the run, then you have the trade deadline, the run continues. And then they just keep killing people. And I think we all arrived at it like, you know, healthy, healthy, everybody, I don't know that the Celtics, I don't know that anyone you're scaring me. I mean, listen, I've been saying I didn't think anybody in the east could be a healthy Celtics, but then like, right or right when we're like, that's it. Here we go, book your frigging tickets to the finals, rob went down. And then everything kind of got wonky. And now the injury stuff's just been all over the place. So it's a real war of attrition with everybody. I mean, here in the east, I mean, everybody they faced bucks without Middleton, you know, Brooklyn obviously. The Simmons, blah, blah, blah, Harris, yada, yada, yada. Doesn't matter. Seth curry frigging had her surgery immediately after. You know, like, this feels like one of those like, you know, with both teams, the Celtics and the heat right now. This feels like one of those hockey series where they could play, they go blood and got 7 games and then afterwards, like 12 members of the team go for surgery. Like, that's what this kind of feels like. It's like everybody's, you just don't know to what extent. You know where Marcus is, his leg got bent in an ungodly direction. Rob is a real wild card here because you could see it right away in that second half he made a couple of plays and then he just kind of slows a little bit and then there's a blow by and then you see him limping and he could barely walk up the court and then he went to the locker room so it's not a great sign there for sure. So I don't know. The fact that they were able to put them on ice after only 18 minutes is great, but the fact that, you know, he experienced soreness and probably swelling after only 18 minutes after having missed another game, you have no idea. I mean, they said it last time. He's day to day for the 19 every other game guy, you know, we might, we might just be in these cam Neely. Right now. Yeah. I mean, I'm not saying for the rest of his career, but for this playoff because you've just got a good every other game and every other day right now is the game..

Yes, I will tell us about your baseball career and Jay's a baseball guy. And, uh, you're basically I was I was way better baseball player in the hockey player. Yeah. And, uh, tell us what position you played and how you know what level you played that before you gave it up totally for hockey. So I started when I was really young, my dad coach, so I grew into that loved it. Later, most my childhood and end up giving it up when I was like 12 to play hockey. Um, that was a tough decision, and, uh So I took it like three years off of it, And I just stopped the sport completely. And I was just like I missed it too much. Uh, hockey was great, but it was like approaching high school. I wanted to play another sport in high school. Wasn't planned Trip play hockey. I wasn't doing any of that. It was all high school, so I had the opportunity to play in high school. Um and, uh, freshman Nero's fortune enough to make varsity on, um So I played four years at peak to peak in high school and First year was a little bit of a struggle, but My junior year I was batting 500. I was playing shortstop and third base. And, Ah, it was. It was a great time. I loved it. I didn't practice as much as I should have. At that point. I put my feet up and more relaxed, and, uh, I did enjoy that time. A baseball I love the sport. It just got a little too hot for me out there. But other than that I loved. You know what I loved about one of things I loved about baseball. Hockey was so intense and high pressure and like you had have you gonna have your guard up? It's a hockey is not a contact sport. Hockey's a collision sport. And if you're if you let your guard down for one minute, you could get hurt badly. And I like I love the contrast between, you know, like hockey. And then when I played baseball, you know, baseball practice. You're out there. You're shagging balls. You're hitting your visit with your buddies out there during practice like it's just a different pace. I love the contrast and they in the two games person Yeah, and that I wanted to see what's what pulled me apart from baseball. I love the bull sports, but When it came down to it. I I got to board with it. I needed that physicality and that grit in that something to just push forward to that I could push myself another people. Adrenaline rush love life in the fast lane, Tim and my son Tim's here and and He and his brother, Tom, where they were real good little baseball players as well and they got to a point where they just go like, Hey, Dad, We just want to play hockey. And, you know, in the same type of thing it was, you know. Hey. Hockey is an addicting game for it's a player's game. You know what for you fans out there, and I don't take this the wrong way. But I'd be like hockey is like a good drug. It is. It's a It's an adrenaline rush. And it's you know, the phenomenon I've known in my whole life. My you know the bodies that and all the guys that I played with and all the teams and then it was interesting to me about 20 years ago or 25 years ago, they started girls hockey or women's hockey or whatever, however, you want to do it and the in the game infected affected. The girl's obviously the same way as the boys and it's great to see these young women. Now that are that they are hockey players. They think my cot They just like the boys. They're addicted to the game. They love it. I turned on I was It was like a week or so ago, I was flipping around. And I saw a hockey game on TV and I started watching it and I watched it about three or four minutes before I realized I had the sound down before I realized it was the women's hockey game. They were skating and they were moving the puck and I thought it was a man's game now and I and we wave Lifted. Hear firsthand, of course, having jock Lambrou on all American led us to the NC double a final eight victory over Michigan. Wolverines,.

"Games this weekend last weekend, but you gotta do what? You gotta deal with this situation and We're just going to look forward to the next game. Your take on the Bentley Syriza's first game. Not so good. I know the coaches got on you guys pretty good, but you came back. Nice to get that split. Yeah, There's a tough series. It was nice coming back and that second game. Email the battle and stick in the game that was a key part of it. We kept it close to the third period. And what was the difference? I mean between What was? What were the differences between Friday and Saturday? Tell me what the difference Sunday and Monday or Sunday and Monday. Thank you. Thank you. I guess I am so confused. I'm like you. I'm a mess. Yeah, All I know this is Tuesday. I know that because that's our radio night. That's that Stayed constant everything. I was OK Sunday and Monday. What was the difference is between Sunday and Monday. It was more just We've put the team before we got Ah, standing who they are, how they play. We saw their speed and we saw how we could play our game and attack them. We the night before? I think we're a little on our heels were a little laid back and When we went out there that second I think we knew what to expect and how we could beat this team and I think we really pulled it together. And by the end of it, I think it showed and we got the win. Finally, so that was that was a nice one. Did it feel different on the bench? The bench was in the third period dollars from from Sunday to Monday to feel different in the bench. The bench was a little different. I mean, was it better or worse? It was way better. You know why? What were some of the reasons it was way better? We're in the game. We're right there. We got way had a few goals in there. And, uh, what else? I don't know. Why don't you prove it wasn't there was it was there was more leadership on the bench. Was there more to anyone? I'm not giving that one. Do you know? I think his exact same I could say that. Come on, Brighter. Give me a little love brother. Hey, You want to explain where what What's going on here now? I'll let you two guys work it out. No, no. What was it? J. You just laugh in the left? Well, I could said who's who? Who was a lot of cancer. Frank was not on the bench on Sunday. He was on the venture. I don't have to say, just say it. All right. Well, we got groupie, grudgingly. We gotta give him that right? I guess so. We lost one game without him. And then I guess we want with him. So I think we found it was. You know you guys were doing a good job? You are one and one on the weekend. I was undefeated. Yeah, That's what I like The difference maker right there for join Andy. They were on one. That's right. Yeah, Yeah. Bye. Well, well, I mean, you got to get it while the getting's good boys. It's been a tough year. You've got to get it with the getting's good. All right. We'll give him that one way. So how was your game right now? Huh? Can't complain. I am There's a lot going on, and I've been able to finally play how I want to play. Time off is a struggle because that's initial first game back after 23 weeks off, it's what so how do you How do you mentally How do you adjust to that? I'm still learning just cause it's such a different year. I mean, but I feel like as a time going on. I think you've noticed it through the team that we're we have that ability to, uh we're slowly progressing show up more after some more time off because This team. If you have back back games, you should be scared. We have a lot of talent. We have a lot of Work ethic and the second game you're we're gonna come at you, and that's when we have those back to back weekends. Everyone's playing like that. We're We're not stop will be will be healthy by then. We'll be ready. And we won't weigh won't let back. You guys came back. And you know, we've got great. And you know what? J, you know? Well, he's finding himself as a power forward. Cam Neely. CASS, help him with cat With who? Cam Neely was okay. CASS, CASS CASS. There's gonna help Willy with that. Brighter. You're finding your way as a player as well. And like you wanted things with your game like you got you got you. You are very energetic guy. You are a very energetic player you bring you bring energy to the ice. But you know almost too much at times and your game like you're starting to your starting to settle down. You're starting that no window window, Utilize your energy and when not to, you know, instead of running around for 60 minutes, 100 Miles an hour and wearing yourself out. Like you're picking your spots, No one and you're going to be in on. You're going to be f one or after the majority of time. But when you're not you're going in. You're settling in. You're like you're just You're getting you've got you just appear to be getting a better feel for the game as a high level players that a fair statement. Yeah, that's fair. I mean, I started to notice. I mean, initially, I just want to do everything I possibly can to help. And early on. I thought I was just going as hard as I possibly can just to show. Try to get that effort trying to show that compassion and work ethic and overtime is starting to see where Sometimes you don't need that. Sometimes it is best to sit back and find soft areas airside find like good areas to be, and it doesn't mean going 100% all the time. It means Picking and choosing where to go, How to go and not get yourself out of position because you're too antsy or two songs. Absolutely. Yeah, I think that's coming about and I'm definitely feel more concrete out there, and I think it's showing recently with My performance and the team? Yes. No, and I think it gets down to it like you've always Like to say you're a hard worker is an understatement. And but But there's a difference between sometime between working hard and working smart and I think you're working a lot smarter now. I think I am too. Yeah, that's Blake Bride. We're going to take another break. We'll come back. Alive..

"Postgame show. We're live now from Massachusetts and the frankly I Selina. Overtime on Air Force beats Bentley 43 With Dave. Taller. I'm J. Richie Frank's territory. Joins us right now, Frank. Frank. I know they all feel good. But that one had to really feel good. That was your first win since March. Do you realize that? Yeah. J idea. Thanks for reminding me. And yeah, that was a good way. The Theo phrase it, um Um You know she's been it's been a tough It's been a tough goal. Um she's been a tough goal, like first and foremost like there's more relief and joy, you know, like like we want you want You want to get that one under your belt. And we want to get some traction on and you know there. There's like, you know we talk about there's no substitute for winning. I mean, like you got to find a way to get a W and even losing in the three on three and just like that's not going to cut the monster. There's no substitute for winning. We had to find a way. To get away and I win. I like and I won't say a couple of things about about our group like we got a young fan group, and that's been well documented. We've talked about it. I've talked about it and it is what it is. But I mean, this young thin group has had. We've played 11 games. Nine of those 11 have been on the road like I don't care even for for older, seasoned teams if you're playing If you're playing nine of 11, that's a tough goal. Everybody's better at home, and so like we've we've had. You know, a monument is challenge. We've honored all of our road commitments to our conference. Uh, to the to our conference affiliates. Theophilus haven't honored their commitments to us. And as a result, we've had the plane inordinate amount of games on the road. Um, uh, I thank our administration for supporting us. It's been it's been tough, and now I want to get into into this game a little bit. And you talk about a young team that hasn't had a lot of success when Los Wise How? How? How many teams that you know, we're all in nine and one could be up to the one and within a minute you're down 3 to 2 with 10 minutes left like how many? How many teams are in our situation would fold up. Fold the tent. How would they fold right up and our kids didn't they didn't fold up. They battled back. We found a way to get that next goal posture. Pinsky scores a big goal and and then we get into the three on three and they got some skill. They got some skill. If you were, if you were betting the over under in the you know, just on on athletes, you wouldn't have given us much a chance of a chance, and that And in that in that three on three, but a couple things, Uh Joe Doyle coaches that three on three unit and, uh, they they don't They don't break down like we're pretty organized. Especially defense. Defensively, man on man and all that. And then when we needed them tonight, who? Who is our best player? I like showing and not even any even close. I mean, like, you know, Shelley was a little silly. That's why I told the boys in the locker room right now and No, we we needed. We needed to have that because you know the teams like that are going to get there. Gonna manufacture some offensive When they do, you're going to need a big safe and and we got that from Alex. But no, I feel I'm so happy for the boys. Like I said, it's been a tough It's been a tough road a hole. I mean, nine of 11 games on the road. We've had two home games, nine road games. We come from behind We give up a lead. We go down 3 to 2. We come back, We tie it. We went in dramatic fashion. Willie Rhyme. How about Willie? Look like Cam Neely in those you that aren't old enough to know Cam need nearly Google him and big power forward that once played for the Boston Bruins legend out here. And, uh, And scores of big time goal and then shells you place probably had to look good. Look, we did a bad change in the three on three and and they got into and how what kind of saved was that? They didn't What did he make this A letter? Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no exciting, exciting game. It's too bad that there was more fans. There wasn't fans here to watch it. Hopefully, people are walking watching it on on Flo TV or whatever we do whatever we have a non out there, but Very, very entertaining game chances both ways, and when it was all said and done, it was the good Falcons over the evil felt at least that's what we think, anyway. All right, Congrats, Frank, good job and we'll talk to you later, therefore, said coach Frank's territory, joining us here on the Navy Federal Credit Union postgame show. Time out, headed your way now on the Air Force Sports Network from left field. I am Jay College presented by Yusa. Yeah. Strong work ethic takes pride in a job Well done.
