"Master kick. He can be your battering ram. He can be your guy, Your Raymond Harris type that gets you 67, you know, yards per carry. He may not break the big one per se, but He is a possession kind of back, and I think, as Ryan Day said this week, there's going to be a place in a time for all three of them and long season. You're going to need them all before. It's all said and done. Well, that answers that question, Because I would have said, you know, do you utilize them? Pretty much equally a lot like you did last last week against Minnesota. So I like that. I like where your head's at with that You can even get some of these guys catch the ball. The backfield. I think William shown he's had some pretty good hands as well. Uh, Steve, we're coming down to it. Kick off, not to, you know, top of the hour. Just a few minutes away. Who you like? And what do you think the score is going to be? Oh, man, I think we're in for a fun game going to be a lot of playmakers on both sides of the ball and Ohio State. Depending you know what happens with banks and brown, you know in the defense Is Oregon going to make some big plays? That's that's kind of the question that's out there. But, you know, I like in this scheme, there was a game a few years back. Ohio State played Miami of Florida in the worst. You and both teams had playmakers and Ohio State's defense was still trying to Took put itself together and the Buckeyes won that game. 36 24 back in 2000 and 10 kind of see the same thing today. I'm I'm going to say, Let's say oh, just not to put it right on the line. I'll call up the same score 36 24 High state. That is Steve Hell Wagon of Buck Nuts, calm and 24 7 sports a good friend of ours, joining Michael Campana earlier this week, a couple of things that they were talking about that We can update you on now because Ohio State on Game Day puts out its player availability list and there was question about seven banks Cam Brown. Those two guys are not on the list, meaning they should be good to go. So seven banks who missed the opener can brown, who is the opener apparently are ready to play in this game. Harry Miller, the offensive lineman, and, uh, all Big 10 center. Well, he was an all big 10 guard but moved to center this year is still out. He is not going to play this game, Which means Luke Whipple er, who did a nice job in the opener. Will be starting at Centre Cavon Thibodeau, who is the star defensive end and many people believe is going to be the number one pick in the NFL draft for the Oregon.

"6 10 W T V N Sports Matt McCoy yesterday. What a great day for those like Derek Jeter, who back in the day was a Columbus clipper. Yeah, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, You know? Such a good man. I think he's probably one of my favorite baseball players of all time. He just always been a stand up, classy guy. I love him to death, and even when he takes shots at other people, he's classy about it like yesterday during his speech with the one The one person who didn't vote him in. Thank you to the baseball writers. All but one of you voted for me. Yeah. Hmm. How about that? That's great. I, uh Listen, even if you are a Yankee hater, which I know there's a lot of them out there. Derek Gear was a hall of Famer and for someone for someone, some writer and I would love to know the reason me too. To leave him off. I mean, he was a Hall of Famer, and it happens every year where there's some obvious, you know, surefire, no doubt about it. A Hall of Famer and some you know, sports writer will leave them off to me. People like that. Just take their ballot away. You know, because you know I get it with. I mean, there's obviously there's some guys that have controversy. I I get it or or your Derek Jeter. He was void. He avoided all that, so I really did. He had all of fame career and he was as good as I've ever seen in terms of rising to the occasion. Um, you know, dramatic home runs World Series. You know, we want all those World series and made big plays during the, um the, uh, but to his very last appearance in Yankee Stadium, you know, he's retiring last at bat in Yankee Stadium, and he had to walk off single. I mean, you know, it's just There's certain guys that have that it factor that always seemed to, uh, make the big play The big shot. Get the big hit at the right time. "To be with me. You know, I I was I was trolling around. Not in a negative way. I don't pick fights on social media. It's not my thing, but I was watching people question. Was something you brought up yesterday, which is a very valid point. Why? There are 10,000 plus tickets still available for this game. Biggest game obviously of the year so far, and there were there were two answers. I found interesting they were the most popular ones. One was the covid issue. The delta variant and people just really not wanting to be next to 100,000 plus people. Uh, the other one was the price of the tickets. So those two answers were the most popular as to why theory is why there's 10,000 Plus tickets still left. Yeah, I don't think it's that complicated. I think those are factors, I think I really think and I I know of a couple of people that are like this that not going to the games last year. Yeah. People actually got used to it and realize you know, isn't so bad. Yeah. I mean, I spent my whole Saturday I spend Who knows how much money it's just, you know, they got out of the habit of going and are like, I don't need to go, You know, so I really think that that's part of it to you think that maybe is one of the top things people just they got accustomed to watching it from home. They're doing their own thing from home. It's maybe cheaper save some money and the the cheaper part of it, which kind of goes to the tickets and kind of ties in with that, But yeah, like, you know, it came time around for that. You know for you months ago. Here's a $1500. You know, check. I have to send Ohio State for two season tickets. Yeah, and you look at it and you're like, Yeah. You know all those things we mentioned, you know, Covid. What's it gonna be like and Don't need to spend this money. I just I think all of that is a factor in this. I think people still love Ohio State. I mean, look at the TV ratings last week. Um, you know, Ohio State set records for Fox. But in terms of going in person right now, it's just I don't think it's a priority for Many Buckeye fans. It is for me, and for many it is, But for many, it's not, and I think that's why we have what we have. What one thing is for sure. As I let you do your sports, The excitement is still there. "And get comfortable before being pulled but this second game. Neither team played really any of their starters. The only guys were really thrown out there. Were maybe rookies. That are going to get significant playing time on both sides but overall what we were exposed to was significantly a backup base game. And it's almost as if this was the final curtain call for a lot of backup player so a lot of what we're talking about here are guys that maybe earned themselves a spot on this roster or others that might straight up just played themselves off this team and are going to be a really difficult spot. Come the next cut down so getting to first. Let's go to the offensive side of the ball. I think one thing that we need to lead into and it's something that we're going to talk about. And i think until this rosters finalized is the battle for the back end of the receiver room. There's a lot of names in there. There's a lot of recognizable names but it seems like the three that keep getting brought up dante pettis through cj board. And there's also david sills and we saw some mixed things from from that whole group. They're not a lot of. Cj board but a significant amount of snaps pettus and sills which you can read into that either way maybe get them getting a lot of repse's their last chance to prove themselves or they just want to be able to see what they are fully capable of the way. I look at this receiver position. David sills has been that slow steady drumbeat since the beginning of training camp. He's the one that kind of jumps out to you from the sense of okay. This guy has really performed all the buzz surrounding this individual. But what does he provide outside of playing receiver and that is the big question. Mark yet seven snaps on special teams because they wanted to kind of get a look at him as governor and they wanted to see how he was on kick return as well. I mean. i think he'd be fine That garner position is incredibly valuable. If you're going to be a goner. That's on punt team. You're going down there and try to pin the Receiving team between the twenty yard line. We saw matt cole. Do it against the jets in exceptional manner. The giants acquired kion cross and from the texans. And he's an expert in that field many of cj board who played really well in that role last year during twenty twenty and look at cj board david. Sylvia say okay. David sills probably adds more value as wide receiver but does that value as what a ford v wide receiver supersedes. Something that cj can do better on special teams. And i'm not one hundred percent certain. Does that leads me to believe that. Cj board may have an edge to crack this roster if he can prove to be one of those two gunners next across but the interesting thing is cam brown. Actually step in and plates gunnar la- last yesterday sunday during the game and he had like two tackles on special teams. And it's just one of those things where you're like this guy can't brown played thirteen. Total special teams snaps. He's somebody who can do so many different things for you on special teams that he can even proved to be a goner as a linebacker which is just insane to think about then. Cj boards presence even necessary and then david sales to possibly ross. I feel like there's a lot of moving parts to this. 'cause you also look at the giants starting receivers right now. Could area's tony injured. Golladay injured two giants. Look at davidson. Say this guy's capable. The stepping provide some value as receiver. Those guys rehabs are a little bit slow to come back. I think it's a really interesting conversation. I'm not one hundred percent. Certain which one would crack it. But whoever provides most special teams values going to have the best chance to make the roster between dante pettis davidson. Cj i look at the snap counts and we saw the guys who are pretty sure going to be real. If not starters than impact role players they were on the field and off the field by basically the second drive for each team. The starters on defense they basically were off the field by the browns second. Drive the guys. We think are going to be big role. Players like devante booker for the giants offense. They were off the field by the giants. Second drive so. I think the fact that cj board only got like what sixteen offensive snaps. I think does kind of bode well for him at his position inside of this wide receiving depth chart. But i think the battle is with pets stills they yes petticoat i think. Thirty six thirty eight snaps on offense seals got forty plus those special teams snaps. We know at pettus brings as a bridge as a punt returner based on what he did in college so that does have value. We haven't seen john. Ross out there all so could it be that you just can't make the squad from the trainers table ios. Have these guys already passed john. Ross end pederson sills are battling out for the six receiver spot. In which case he'll still does give a legitimate backup to kenny. Golladay as the only other guy out there who is even close to golladay size that big body that big frame that x. receiver position. We know how important that is within. Jason garrett's offense and he does at that size he's about like what six four six five two hundred and fifty impounds does great adjusting. His body in the air contested catch situations does really good job coming down with those. Footballs and that's very very valuable to daniel jones skill. Set as well something. We saw two thousand nine hundred and what jason garrett wants to do in those isolation routes on the on the boundary. Just one on one match ups. David sills does good in that. Now will he do well in that against actual number one cornerback sitting..

"He studied that from sieben delicate about the efficiency and how well run. The practices are so. It's interesting that you you mentioned that. Because that he seems to be like fixated on trying to accomplish that so You know th there's an interesting take away. And i think people look you know he got a lot of flack for the way. He practices those guys last year. A couple of veterans for a year. I think either to brill peppers or stealing shepper. Maybe said something along. The lines of they noticed late games. They were huffing and puffing and they they were not tired so kind of that judge. Judge has a purpose everything everybody in. It might not agree with what he does. Maybe it doesn't work in the end but like there's a reason why does all this stuff and at the end of the year you know i mean maybe a lot of guys get hurt because of the stuff i mean that would have to be something to be looked into possible but forever that sticks around you know by the end of the year. They're in good shape and other guys aren't doing this. Maybe aren't do you in closing. Is there anything again any other takeaways that we didn't mention any lingering questions that you have about this team heading into the next week of training camp here like what. What are you kind of thinking about on the horizon and one thing they have a lot of guys that are hurt right now banged up. You know they're they still haven't seen how rudolph out there and all of a sudden they don't have a lot of depth end will be until yellow. It's got lots of the year you know. They really only two guys that they trust and katie smith and kissing winter. If we're ever get out there linebacker they're down to nikolaaos cam brown These lori and like patio denic go as their after linebackers and they've best and all these other guys and so i. I'm just curious to see like what are these guys. Have more serious injuries than letting on when we'll see them like and then we then it's kinda hard to predict what the depths are even looks like at this point. 'cause there's so many guys are out especially in in that position area so that's one thing. I'm accuweather nine over the next couple of weeks. We'll get a better idea of who they like. Who's her who's healthy. Who might to stick around. Who might be nine and the fun part about this time of the year especially once we get to actually evaluate in. Preseason games is just figuring out what's bubble players will finally make the team definitely and hopefully this team gets healthier quickly and Saquon down for sure. All right zach. "Alright giants fans ed. Valentine back here on. Valentine's views podcast talking with patricia trainer. Giants country in the lock done giants podcast as we preview. You're twenty twenty one giants training camp which begins officially on tuesday. Patty we've been talking about offense. Let's talk a little bit about defense and really the one the one topic that i find really interesting. Entering training camp on defense is how the edge rusher situation is going to pan out. I think the giants have so. Many options are on the edge. Do you find that to be one of the most fascinating position groups entering camp. I do you know. There's an old saying you know quant. Quality is better than quantity. The giants have quantity but do they have quality. I think they do you know. I like z's larry i think he's gonna develop into a fine every down. You know edge. Rusher for them If lorenzo carter is fully healthy and it was a good sign that we saw him during the The spring he was on his way to becoming quite a force before that injury that he suffered. Now what about the rest of the gang there. What are they gonna get from. Ellison smith who was deaf. I believe they're fourth-rounder you know is ryan anderson. Done a play a role there What about o'shane zimmer. Says who seems to be the forgotten guy. What kind of role is he gonna play. And then you have some linebackers you know cam brown and carter coughlin. Did some some edge work last year. But you know. I think carter coughlin's going back towards the to being an inside linebacker more than at edge rusher is cam brown a situational guy so you have a bunch of guys there that you know the question is do. They have a guy who's going to be productive or tune. They really need a strong three man rotation i think at that position. I don't know that they have it yet. We have to see if they do but based on what they have on paper you can make the argument that they do but you know what they have on paper versus with they have on the field two very different things so definitely something to keep an eye on and you know the other thing on defense that i'm really interested in is how the how the secondary shakes out just in terms of how patrick graham uses all of the pieces that that they have have competition in the slot. You between darnay homes and rookie. Third round pick aaron robinson. Plus you have several other defensive backs capable of playing in the slot. You've got lots of competition for for backup spots in the defensive secondary. You've got xavier mckinney heading into his second year hopefully his first full season first healthy season. Is there any any position battle. Anything in this secondary that that really intrigues. You enter camp. Just how many different combinations can patrick graham. Come up with. i mean. This is kind of like a rubik's cube in a away except Instead of trying to solve get all the you know the colored squares to match on each side of the cube. There's so many different combinations that he can put together you know. Is he going to put a for. Example xavier mckinney in the slot on third downs whereas aaron robinson gonna fit in. Is he going to be the star linebacker. Is he gonna take over the slot. So there's a lot of questions but there's also a lot of different combinations that i think pacha gram. He's you know if i'm patrick graham. I'm probably sitting there. And i can't wait to run through some of these combinations and see what works what doesn't work and then figure out when i'm going to deploy them in certain game situations and there. There's a lot i mean. There's probably once that we probably haven't even thought of the patrick graham on his long list of you know personnel. Pack is probably has come up with a few new and creative ways to deploy those guys if we know grand patty. He'll he'll he'll come up with a few more of those tuesday morning. Sure he's probably know. Hey interesting things about the giants last season. Patty was that they struggled in some areas on special teams. Graham gano had a tremendous year as placekicker but the giants didn't get a whole lot from their return game canaries..

"So chris this is something that we were going back and forth on before we started recording. The show is who sticks around on the roster and before we get into that conversation. I think we need to just hit on these backup players. The last three that have been listed at edge rushing roles or coughlin who was a rookie. Last year played. Mostly special teams did get some opportunities to get on. The field. didn't look all that great nassim to do some stuff that i don't think he was very comfortable doing and there was a reason why we saw him struggle. But then there's also trent harris and then there's also garrett kale so these three guys separate from some of the other names that we mentioned are probably the love most likely to get cut maybe or coughlin lands himself onto the practice squad but they have the biggest uphill battle to make this roster. Yeah i would agree with that. I think the giants like car coughlin. He is a guy who he's got a really strong work ethic he's got a great motor. He's a better athlete than i think he gets credit for but like you said when he got on the field he struggled. Yeah i think he could be in a battle with cam brown for that back end of the roster primarily special teams role with a chance to work as we on the field and defense. But he's going to have to pick it up because brown in that area does have a head start on him. Trent hair scare kale. I think the guys to watch in training camp but like you said they've got an uphill battle we also do have to pay attention to the numbers game. You know. we've got three guys. We think are going to have a sizeable share of the snap. Count and then. We've got four guys. We have a strong presence as a rotation. do the giants keep seven edge players. Or is it just six. Could ellison smith not cam brown off the bat off the back end of the roster and they basically just keep five down defensive lineman and six ed rushers unfortunately when we when you get as many bodies at a position as the giants have right now. The numbers game starts to be a very real consideration and giants could wind up being forced to make difficult decision with a guy they would really rather keep on their roster that i think is going be the largest debate that will be having in regards to this defense. And who makes the roster. Because you can't really say like oh it. You know the it makes sense. They've got a deep group. They're gonna keep seven guys. Look at the secondary. The secondary is the most crowded group on the roster and they're going to need spaces extra spaces. I think more than most teams to keep a lot of these guys on the roster and there's going to be somebody that is going to be cut. I think from the edge rushers or the defensive line. That is a recognizable name that we would have hoped would have at least gotten maybe a season or two more before. They parted ways with the giants and the two guys that i look at the most. That might be in that conversation because realistically it's probably going to be six it might. There's even a possibility might be five. I don't think that's going to happen. But there are going to be some serious constraints on how many edge rushers they can keep in the to that. I think come into play the most four competing for a roster spot right now even though they weren't doing so really last year is kim brown and is o'shane shane's inez. Like right now. The two of them i think of the most approve because they brought in some veteran free agents. They're going to give some of those guys. I think a little bit more the benefit the doubt because they've actually gotten more reps in live games. They've been competitive for other teams and they were basically hand selected to step into roles that were unproductive last year. If you have to go out and get guys in free agency for your positions. That usually means that the coaching staff is looking for competition. And they weren't necessarily impressed with what you showed so far. So oceans jimenez cam brown. I think right now are probably the biggest guys that might be surprised in the end of training camp yet and i really do feel there will be at least one surprise. Cut out of this group. We could even flag lorenzo carter as a potential surprise cut in the giants loved to turn the back into their roster. I'm not saying. Carter is going to be back under the roster type guy but they could find somebody to play that will linebacker position and if carter's injury lingers if they're just not happy with his development you know they really feel he should be an edge rusher and he is just not there yet They could decide. Hey we we just don't have any more time to spend trying to develop you. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and we could see them maybe try to pounce on edge rusher that maybe a team like the browns or the forty niners teams with incredibly deep defenses. Cut i think that the edge group the linebacker group is probably going to be in the in the tightest constraints which you can consider some of these guys to be off ball linebacker slash slash edge rushers but considering the players they have along the defensive line and then most specifically the secondary is going to really force out some players because as we know this defense has been built around the secondary it is built around having quarterback stand there for extended periods of time until the defensive line in the edge. Rushers eventually get there. That is what has been the bread and butter. Maybe the approach alters slightly but it seems like the money and the effort that was spent in free agency there is going to be a huge emphasis still on the secondary. And we'll we'll talk about the safeties and the corners on separate shows and we'll probably talk about other surprise. Names that are recognizable players that are going to get cut from those groups but separate from that chris. I think with our backups. Here carter coffin. Trent harris gear kale are in a bit of a tight squeeze. We don't really know. A whole lot from trenton harrison garrett kale i think the more that's surprising but the more recognizable name is not going to make this for pretty much guarantee is carter coughlin. I just don't see a way that he squeaks into the roster unless they're obsessed with how he plays as a special teamer but it's just gonna be too tough for him considering all the guys ahead of him considering his limitations as an athlete and then we saw him struggle in various things last season when they asked him to get on the field and play more. Yeah he's going to have to make a pretty big jump in his play like just an incremental improvement. That'll be nice. But i don't think that's going to make enough to get him on the final fifty three man roster and yet. There's just one other thing i want to note. And that is the loss of rep. Yelma your i know. We're this is really a position group preview. But i think the giants losing their outside linebackers coach. He went back to coach at the college ranks. That's something i think. We were all expected expecting to see at some point but we did. Even though the giants pass rushers weren't a really impact group last year. we did see lorenzo. Carter take a step forward before he got hurt. We saw cuyler. Fakher will make some plays on. The giants didn't get a whole lot of out of marcus golden but when he was on the field last year he had an impact. And i'm just curious to see what another coaching change at that unit. Losing a guy who's very well regarded as a linebackers as a defensive coach. What effect that has no whether or not some of these young guys who were there last year maybe take a step backward without p. l. madera to coach them up some more. That's always going to be a big conversation point as well as there's been some rotations along this coaching staff. Who knows what we see. We see improvements. Do we see some set-backs that's going to be another thing as well where those relationships with some of the younger guys you have new face in there he's not really gonna go to bat for potentially guys that weren't around last season so we'll be tracking that as always we're going to be discussing and breaking down you.

"Unless he looks insanely unprepared during training camp and they don't feel comfortable putting him out there on the field but considering he was a second round pick a guy who many considered to be a first round talent. As long as these fully healthy -ocial ari is going to be on the field in playing. Because they're going to want him out there one to develop but also because he's an explosive guy that is going to create some some good opportunities for this defense. I do agree with you though chris. It's who gets on the field more between anderson and odor ningbo because both of them journeymen have have similar. Relatively similar styles skill sets but both having the opportunity to really prove them prove themselves in needing to prove themselves as that go to secondary pass. Rusher yeah and they're both basically the same size. Anderson is six to two fifty. Five ningbo is six three to fifty eight. They're almost the same age just a few months apart. They came at both came out of the twenty seventeen draft. It's going to be interesting. I think to see who really who winds up getting the the larger share of the defensive. Snap count because i think you you phrased perfectly that which edge defenders are on. The field is really going to come down to game situation. The style of defense the giants playing on that particular down. I think we will see a pretty healthy rotation out there. og lori will probably be the fixture the guy who is on the field the most but we're going to see a bunch of different guys out there both to get different skill sets on the field and to keep everybody well rested throughout the game and yeah. The crew. Trajectories of anderson in ningbo are pretty interesting. Anderson was a highly regarded player. Coming out of alabama whose drafted in the second round parmi draft in the second round of the twenty seventeen draft. Boy he never really played up to what was expected of him based on his career alabama. Yeah he has. I believe six career sacks most of which came in twenty nineteen and most of that came in one game against the philadelphia eagles owed ningbo. He was a seventh round pick and he has ten and a half career sacks but most of those again came in twenty nineteen where he had a really big season as a backup. He started every game. He was active for in twenty twenty and he wasn't able to replicate the success he had as a rotational player. So we'll be able to take that next step. Under patrick ramming the giants coaching staff. Or is he is he just best as a rotational guy. And i think that will be interesting to see. You're definitely going to be interesting to see how things work out with those two players. And i think that the other conversation we now have is who ends up being the other rotational names and faces get onto the field and as we discussed or we've already brought up. Patrick ram really does like to get as many different heads in there as possible based on certain circumstances and situations in the group right now that you see that fits into that conversation. He's zim as opening. Bow or anderson depending on who wins that job or whoever proves themselves the most but separate from to them cam brown. In ellison smith i feel depending on how comfortable they are with ellison smith because of his current development though probably try to find a way to work him onto the field maybe a little bit later on in some of these other players but he definitely has the physical traits to go out there and be competitive and just take up some space and maybe create some pressures. The bear conversation then becomes though does zimmerman as do brown get opportunities to get onto the field often because one oceans jimenez some consider him to be a cut candidate because of his lack of ability to be fully healthy and on the field. He was injured last year. Kenny stay healthy. Can you prove himself during camp can even potentially push himself into these starter conversation. Which seems like something. We've talked about for the last two years since his rookie season we've been waiting for him to ascend and take that next step. Forward camp brown is probably. I think less likely to really carve out a lot of time in this rotation. He is going to make this roster more for his effort that he provides on special teams. We saw a lot of that from cam brown last year. He busts his ads on special teams. Which is allowed him to stick around but we do know. The coaching staff has spoken very highly. On how much. He has gradually improved in the way that he finished last season and the giants are eventual very special teams centric team. That's kind of what happens when you have special teams coaches your head coach. And then you've got to career. Special teams were nader's running your special teams like they pay particular attention to that side of the game and having really good special teams. Chops is a great way to distinguish yourself on the back end of a roster and make the squad which will give you a chance to get on the field on offense or defense. Yeah depending on what. You're what you're not gonna position is so i think that does bode well for cam brown. Yep oceans jimenez. When he is healthy he is a really polished pass. Rusher he is not a particularly explosive guy. He isn't big. He isn't super strong. He isn't hyper athletic. but coming. Out of old dominion he actually had really good pass rushing technique so while he might never be a an explosive. Big sacked number rusher. He's a guy you can. As long as he's healthy feel comfortable having out there like he's going to be disciplined in in run defense. He's going to provide some pressure as a pass rusher and for a rotational guy a backup..

"Dtra's never had a passer rating above sixty one with pressure. So hopefully the game slows down for him. The real positive here is that you would think he isn't as pressured as much this season. Ut ucla's offensive line. They're gonna return all five guys including two tackles that we think compliance on days. It was an online last year that when it had quarterback behind it. That got the ball out on time. Quarterbacks did pretty well. Right i mean. Dt are still runs himself into some tax but basically when the ball came out on time. Ucla's offensive line allowed a pressure rate below twenty three percent. They also did well opening up lanes in the ground game. Top forty in line yards. Ucla to me out wide has some nice weapons as well. Kyle phillips might be the best slot receiver in the pac twelve. You have greg dosage. I mean he is a nightmare at tight end. I don't know who can cover them. Only kyle pits was a better downfield tight end last season than dosage. Only three other power five tight ends with. At least twenty five receptions had more yards per outrun than dosage. The other tight end mike. Martinez is an absolute animal. But i think. Ucla when i look at their roster when i do some reading and poke around for some information they're still looking for the reliable outside threat and let's see if they can find it. I'm not sure like chase. Coda and matt sykes or the solution. But we'll see cam. Brown does transfer information. 'em what i do like though is chip. Kelly telling us what he thinks of his team. I two years at ucla chipper in a slow offense relatively speaking. You can't run a million plays when you're out manned and don't have the horses last season that tempo increased and with basically everyone but felt back on offense. I think we see an even faster pace the season and to me a coach will tell you what he thinks of his team and i think that's a pretty big indictment of of what chip kelly thinks of his offense at least and i think he's got reason to be excited. Not only about his offense and what he brings back this year but a defensive team all that really improved last season. They jumped Their overall by one point two seven yards per play on defense tied with toledo for the biggest jump year over year. Ten eleven starters return but you do lose all pac twelve performer and osa. And i'm not even gonna try and pronounce this game. So i apologize the ucla football fan. You know what. I'm talking about when when you look at. Ucla defensively their biggest issue was trying to slow down teams. That could actually throw the forward pass where they ranked one hundred fourteenth when you begin to assess ucla's defense. Are you optimistic. There trending in the right direction and you could see mark improvement from that group along with an offense that we have i- expectations for this season like what. Ucla chose to do defense with last season i it was just so chip kelly in the sense that him being an analytics guy. He's new defense. Couldn't hold up down to down so he wanted to be really aggressive and chip knows he doesn't have the top defensive talent to win down to down so ucla was like. Hey we're just gonna be feast or famine. Defense played super aggressive fifty-one percent bullets rate seven ties in the country but the four to five allowed. Ucla to prevent big plays also so basically ucla wanted to create chaos. Around the line of scrimmage and and and get home while playing their secondary back and if they didn't get home they weren't going to give up the big play they're like hey you can feast on the short intermediate stuff be efficient down down. Try to take it on us. You know twelve thirteen fourteen place and so it's always good to see coaches. Choose to do things that make sense when you look at them metrically as a team as a good sign of a good coach and ensure enough chip had that right approach because ucla finishes ninety eighth in success. Rate allowed ninety ninth in line yards ninety eight than stuff right. One hundred nineteenth and rushing success rate. A lot he knew his team was going to get bullied either. Way why not create some pressure interns and people over now. The blitzes didn't get home as much as ucla would like. And that's why they're barely above average in havoc only forced eleven turnovers. But i think another year in the system. Ten guys returning. There's hope i think for a little bit more consistency with veteran group and a full off season when you're trying to project improvement it typically doesn't mean projecting a team to go from horrific to elite. Ucla was outside the top eighty defense efficiency. But i think todd a good result for this defense is a unit. That's fighting to be you know in that top fifty to sneak in there. I mean hey look. I mean we knew it was gonna take some time for chip kelly to build a program up and i have to imagine everything he went through a tumultuous stops along the way in the nfl he was going to try and find a program where patients was a virtue and ucla had been burned before it was some coaching hire. Jim moret never quite panned out. The carl durell years. They'd like to sweep under the rug but they appear to at least go. Hey look we in chip we trust and we're going to allow him to do things his way. This has to be a maker break season. They begin to show strides. And then you get some of that tailwind that can lead you into a lot more optimism going forward because we talked about at the top of the show. Usc hasn't done enough to separate themselves from the rest of the league. Arizona state may be going through a bumpy road in their own right and who knows chip was able to take a sleeping giant and build them into something. Special at oregon. Maybe i'll have that same ability with ucla. Having built up the overall depth chart slowly but surely and have the quarterback that can run his system..

"Think they will. I think they have the pieces in place. So twist my arm. On june twenty fifth dallas cowboys win the nfc east followed by the giants followed by the football team. Followed by the philadelphia. Eagles and the eagles might win seven games. They're going to be better this year. They're gonna make strides. They're going to take steps forward. I just don't think their roster is in the same place as the other three teams in the division. Of course before we get out of here. I'd be remiss of in touch on the biggest story in the nfl this week and an argument can be made that it's the biggest story in the nfl. Recent years and that's car on nasa coming out as the first openly gay active. Nfl player in the league. And first of all. Kudos congratulations and a word of appreciation. For carl nasa feeling comfortable enough and showing the strength to reveal his truth as someone who has a member of their family and the lgbtq community and several gay friends. It's really heartening to see. Nasa feel comfortable enough knowing that he can come out as gay that he can live his truth openly and just to see where we are society with james franklin as we touched on earlier writing the ten thousand dollar check to the trevor fund which helps prevent lgbtq youth from committing suicide. They'll league matching carl nasr's nation to the trevor fund. I it's just really encouraging to see that we're now at a society that is in a place where people can feel comfortable living in their own skin not feeling banished to the darkness of a closet. Not feeling like they need to live ally not feeling that need need need to be someone to pretend to be someone that they're not and carl nassib not only with his donation of one hundred thousand dollars to help prevent suicides among youth. Gay lesbian queer and transgender people is isn't just helping that community in a real tangible regard. He's now role model for people who feel uncomfortable living in their own skin. That even as someone who's going to be in an nfl locker room one of the more testosterone driven environments in the entire world..

What were you know what was his impact on the lions and that offense in your time together there and kindred damn good player especially her last year wasn't able to go up there performer ee. "That room got better over. The offseason amine blake martinez was they. Are you have lorenzo. Carter coming back. Oshane ximen as coming back from injury. A z's coming in they sign reggie ragland. You're a big part of that because of your versatility being able to play inside or rush the passer off the edge. How do you stand out. And what are you feel. You need to show during training camp to get and then stay on the field issue. Honestly i work on what. I have to what i do best. The versus out tall belong the ads out. Be run out to the ball. I gotta do that. that's all. i can folk. I'm sure i can. I do my vessel blah and. I'm certainly didn't work out and cam linebacker jason. You played linebacker for very long time at a really level. You know when you look around the league right now where the position's going. You see guys like fred warner. You see guys like darius leonard these hybrids who can kind of drop back in coverage be thumpers. At the line of scrimmage you know how to linebackers become more valuable as the game evolves kind of for both the you and how much is the position changed going into twenty twenty one versus maybe playing linebacker. When you were in high school or value. I think right now you know the game is really starting to lead towards the college game. Heavy heavy past. So i think right now the linebackers who can come in and be versatile from aspect of pass coverage of being able to cover titans cover back well and even a be good to be out in the slot and do maybe some zone covered. Maybe a little bit a man out there of is kinda what makes linebackers most valuable nowadays being able to stay on the field on third and cam for you watching the game kind of change as a young player. What do you think is the most valuable part of a linebacker skill set in today's game and today's game hundred percent most valuable isos be able to be on the field for down or three downs relief. But not having to come off. Be just a blitzer person. Second down not having to come off or pass coverage wherever it may be being able to field biggest part and being versatile being long enough to pass rush being agile enough coverage of me. I think the key doesn't get much more versatile than a guy who can play linebacker and fullback and a guy who can play inside. Rush the passer. You guys can really speak to that. You know in a lot of different ways and you were both teammates. Penn state with. Mike parsons he got picked of course in the first round by the dallas cowboys.
