"Guy could probably play in the league who can give you insight after each play to kind of help the viewers and the announcer who doesn't know how much about football, understand why that happened during the play. No, sorry, I just went on a long tangent. Apparently ESPN was making offers to other people. I mean, you heard Al Michael's name thrown out. You heard a lot of people that ESPN was trying to convince to come do Monday Night Football. I'm sure Brian Gracie realized, hey, our Monday Night Football booth isn't a massive success. People don't love it. ESPN is trying to replace us, you probably felt like a placeholder until they could get a bigger name. And so good for Brian. I'm glad he left for his sake. I hope he really enjoys working with the forty-niners and working as a quarterback coach and I don't know if he's making less money or more money. I would assume he's making less money to go from money to football will be a quarterback coach, but he's set money like once your bills are paid, do what makes you happy. And I would imagine it's pretty hard to be happy doing Monday Night Football the way. Like, not difficult. I'm sure it's a fun job, but if he thinks he can find more happiness doing work as a quarterback coach of the forty-niners, which I'm sure he will, getting to work with a young quarterback Trey Lance and develop him and work on Kyle's Shanahan, all these smart people. It's a great opportunity for him. It's an opportunity for him to work his way up the ladder to start at quarterback coach is pretty high up on the ladder. Up next, she got offensive coordinator and then maybe head coach. Brian greasy has an opportunity here to make a coaching career for himself, something you probably always thought would be fun to do. So, I don't know, I'm really happy for the guy. I really am because it's a guy making a career move that probably is when he feels very good about it. And probably when he's excited to do and I just know sometimes as a broadcaster, you feel a little bit weird because you're always talking about the game and sometimes you feel like a poser because you're not a part of it and I'm sure Brian greasy at times felt like an outsider looking in and no matter how many people you talk to no matter how many times you don't feel them throw or have conversations with people. I've had conversations that blow my mind with people and I'm like, I can't believe that happened in my life that I'll never tell you guys about. But it's not the same as being part of the game. And it's cool to see Brian greasy going back to be part of the game. Good for him. I hope he's happy and it's an awesome opportunity for him. Welcome in. Today we're gonna talk about the Calvin Ridley suspension. The Russell Wilson traded the obvious massive news here. I've got two topics about the packers. What about Aaron Rodgers and what about Jordan love? Now, I prepared a bunch of stuff. And then unfortunately, Aaron Rodgers, because nothing can ever be easy or simple with Aaron freaking Rogers. It drives me nuts. I don't know why this is. Reports came out, he signed a big contract extension. I reacted to it. I then was like, well, now is Jordan love going to get moved? And then roger is out of nowhere tweets. Hey, excuse me. I didn't sign a contract extension. I'm just coming back to the packer. So I have no idea. We'll talk about all of it. It's a mess. Although kind of a glorious mess, I don't know. It's going to be a fun show. Let's jump in first and talk about something that I don't like to talk about this. And I'm going to ignore the Russell Wilson news for a second to start here with this one thing. It's something that we have to talk about, we don't have to. I don't have to do anything. I've certainly ignored big news stories here. I want to talk about it. Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended indefinitely from the NFL. It's at least going to be a one year suspension. He's going to miss the entire 2022 season. It could be longer. He was expended expended expenditure number one. He was suspended for gambling on NFL games, including apparently even gambling on his own team. Now, there's a lot here. Number one, Calvin Ridley said on Twitter that he does not have a gambling problem, and he only bet $1500, $1500. A lot of people are comparing this to previous NFL suspension, saying like, well, ray rice was suspended for this amount of time. And Tom Brady was suspended for this amount of time and comparing it to domestic violence and stuff like that. It's messy. And people are saying that the Calvin Ridley suspension is too long. And really harsh. And I agree. It is long, it is really harsh, but that's intentional. Because pardon my French, the NFL views what Calvin Ridley did as a massive, massive fuck up. You can not do that. If you are an NFL player, as an NFL player, one of the number one things they tell you is, hey, you can't gamble. They're very clear about it. They make sure that you know that. Because it hurts the integrity of the league. It opens up a door to all kinds of concerns. Players throwing games or meaning they're betting their team will lose and then intentionally playing bad and profiting off of it. You can not have players in the NFL gambling on the NFL. It's unacceptable and should not happen. And so the NFL is going to come down really, really hard on Calvin Ridley. Does it matter how much the amount was? It doesn't really matter if you at home can gamble. The NFL is going to make an example out of Calvin Ridley because they're telling you, do not gamble..

"What really bumps me out. Is that folks were getting asked? He's pissed. I think this is the most upset I've ever seen. I just mean bears. Whose job is it to figure out who should have playlists? Is frolic room looking for some sort of sponsorship deal with us, because now is it fair? I think, you know what? Actually, take the floor here a little bit before we get to the advice. What has happened now to frolic's rooms, business? Because it appears that it's become now a tourist attraction because of the podcast than you. It's funny, it's actually I've seen a couple people in the last couple days. I'll say a week just so I don't sound like I'm there all the time. And it goes the same way. It's like a girl, usually. Yeah, probably. It's a guy and a girl. If it's like a younger guy, my age, I'm like, all right, there's at least a 30% chance he's only here because he lists a life advice. I ignore him, whatever. Because now we're just like in the corner, looking at this guy who's sitting by himself in a bar like, do you think we could stop this? So she usually breaks the ice and then either we stay or it's like on their way out. But yeah, it happens. And then sometimes it's the old distance long distance jukebox. Donation from somebody. All right, 6 foot, one 65, 35 years old, body looks like runner with athletic gear on. But when you pop the top of the shirt, makes for slight muffin tops. Mirrored out of my league and we're adding a player to the dugout soon. That means she's pregnant Kyle. I think all of us understood that. Yeah, we got it. The issue at hand is deciding whether to be the bigger man or not. I played college sports, not for the podcast. Okay, he tells us where. Pretty good. Pretty good. Pretty good. All right, and live with some other guys for all four years. We went to different big cities after graduation, but have seen each other about twice a year since. He's 31. My wife and I are getting married, we're getting married Labor Day weekend of 2020. Which was in the air for COVID. So we kept the date, but just had family and wedding party, the bachelor party was the beginning of July 2020 as COVID had ramped up and people were understandably cautious. I invited the guys into where I live, most came, but one friend in question here did not. He lives a four hour drive away, but cited COVID and didn't come. I understood. I shortly, after found out from a buddy that was in another bachelor party that one week later, he'd flown across the country, albeit a better location and made it no mask or anything. Love this guy. But this is typical on his behalf. Does what he wants when he wants and doesn't make any sacrifices if not for himself if his fiance. His bachelor party is coming up. Do I go? My wife is doing 6 weeks after the date of the bachelor party could use that as an excuse. Surrey's going to say life is too short. Kyle will say fuck him. I think you'll lean on going. All right, look, we definitely have one guy in the group that was like this, everything was on his terms, always on his terms always on his terms. You know, he had a lot of money growing up. And eventually he and I, there's no relationship whatsoever. And I was never invited anything. And so I didn't really host it on the cool shit because my parents didn't have awesome setups. So I wasn't like I was inviting anybody to do anything. But it didn't dawn on me until I kind of looked back retroactively. I'm like, yeah, that kind of sucked. I kind of stuck with people. You're going to have if you have enough friends, you're going to have that friend that's in the group that you feel like you're always kind of figuring out ways to make sure they're okay because that's it. It gets a little exhausting. But that's not really what this is. What this really is about is you denying yourself a weekend with the rest of the guys that you seemingly still get along with really well. And I'm telling you, these weekends start to disappear, all right? I would pay a large sum of money for like my 6 or 7 closest best friends to all get together for a weekend. And I'm just talking about like, I would pay the price of attendance and then whatever else it would take because they're almost impossible now at my age. Like to get that many guys together. So with 31, I'm telling you, cherish these moments where everybody's going to be able to get together. And just because it's his fucking party who cares. You're still going to get to see everybody else that's there. So go into it with that. Yeah, he wanted to go to something else, you know? And if the other thing that he went to was going to be awesome compared to the thing that.

"Got it off last week. Broken ankle. Two places. She had to have a screw put in, which has a little washer on it. I don't know why it gives me a kick. You can see on that tray. There's a washer that holds it in place. Doctor was great, not a Joe DiMaggio's children's hospital. Remembered our show. It was like, yeah, whatever happened to your guys show. I love listening to you guys. You and Ryan, you guys were great together. Really good dude, but except when he told her 6 weeks in the cast, I was like, well, what do you do next? He's like, well, you just kind of start, you know, just walk and then you run slowly and you go and there was no timetable. So she's really having a hard time with why she can't run like yesterday and it's only been a week since she's been out of the cast. So no rehab there. Just kind of just taking it day by day. She's getting a little bit better. But Brady buckets is doing a lot better. So thank you for asking. The stupid trampoline though, that really pisses me off. That's how she broke it? Yeah. So my dad has always been anti trampoline, like don't ever get your kids trampolines. And I was on the same page, like just don't do it. It's too much risk. There's too much involved, homeowners, like they'll take away your home when I was insurance, all these issues that crop up with it. So my girls have asked me one for 5, 6 years, and we lived in Connecticut and neighbors had one, which was great. And that's kind of what got them into the kick for like, let's get a trampoline. So we moved back to Florida, we were renting, always had an excuse. Like, wow, we can't get it. So now that we've been in this house for over a year, Christmas comes around and they basically bullied me into it. They're like, oh, we have to get a trampoline. We have to get a trampoline. And my thinking was, they're at an age when they're inside a lot. They want to be on screens and one place, so I'm like, hey, if it's something that gets them outside, get them outside, they jump on the trampoline, that's great. So I cave, Christmas, get it, put it up the day after Christmas, three weeks. We don't even have the thing three weeks. Brady comes down wrong. It wasn't even because it had the enclosed, but she was jumping with older kids, so she went with older sister and a kid that lives across the street, and they were much heavier, like two times the size, going as high as they can. They were doing popcorn and having all the fun games they do. And then I guess what apparently happened is she comes down the spring is going up and it just catches her exactly the wrong time. And when I was actually, it was Monday night it was Martin Luther King day. There was a Monday Night Football game on don't know if it was playoffs or something, but I was getting ready to do a hit from my house and Courtney comes in and she's like Brady's hurt. And I was like, all right, I'll be there after this hip. It's like a ten minute hit. And she's like, no, no, no, you need to come now. And I was like, all right, this must be serious and go in and it's like, hang in the wrong way. It was ugly. It was nasty. And when I go into the room, she would screaming, she's like, don't tell him, don't tell him. She was saying, don't tell my dad. Like, don't tell him. And the reason was she didn't want me to get rid of the trampoline. She's like, he's gonna throw it out. He's gonna get rid of the trampoline. So she was more devastated from that than she was from the pain of the injury. But all that went through surgery went successfully knock on wood. They still want to keep an eye on her growth plate, but that's been good so far. And yeah, so it's been a little bit of an interesting. You talk about a 9 year old with lots of energy that's on crutches and hasn't been able to move. It's a lot of energy, you gotta burn off in other ways. All right, but she's good. How well for sure. "You know, does that make sense? Like, I just feel like he's the safe pick. I can look at the film. It translates the concepts he's running with. I think his mobility and him running a sub four 7 40 was a kind of a wow moment, but let's not confuse him with a Josh Allen, like the size and physicality that he runs with. And he actually, Josh Allen ran slower than him at the combine. But I just, I don't think he's a guy that's going to blow you away with us athleticism. And his arm talents adequate, but it's not Josh Allen's type arm or Patrick Mahomes. I just think he's kind of a safe pick to maybe be a franchise quarterback, but the more likely is he's probably predominantly a backup throughout his career. Don't you think though of a scout said that to you in the war room? You'd be like, well, then why are we taking him? And again, people get plenty of the stuff wrong. We've been over it nonstop, at least on this podcast of how often you whiff on the first rounders, but it's kind of like when I look at a basketball bust, I'll hear somebody say, well, you know, you could have taken this guy because you know at least he's going to be in your rotation one through 8 could be four or 5 year player. He's never going to be a starter. He's certainly never going to be an all star. So why don't you just go ahead and take the safe pick and you're like, well, no, that's not what this is about. This is about trying to find a difference maker. And I'd rather make a mistake trying to find a difference maker than make a mistake because I thought, hey, his floor was higher than other people. Right. And I totally understand that. If you ask me, like, swing for the fences, the highest, and I think it's pretty obvious. I mean, it's Malik Willis. If it's a boom or bust type of candidate, I think he's clearly the guy. His arm strength is off the charts. Two years ago, the film on him is really solid. I mean, he put liberty's team on his back. They had several wins against ACC teams against the better competition he played really well. He showcased his running ability, which isn't in question, but this past season. And this is where I do think this is the similar cop to Josh Allen, like he's a smaller version of Josh Allen because Josh Allen does have the type of size and athleticism and arm talent that you look at and it's just like, all right, you kind of start salivating when you think about the upside potential. Malik Willis isn't in anywhere near as a physical specimen as Josh Allen. Josh Allen 6 5 two 45, maybe even more. And it can throw it out of the stadium. Malik Willis, he's 6 one. He's not as big as two 15. And his arm talent is good, but it's not off the charts good. So yeah, I could see it, but I almost feel like he needs a system similar to what the ravens did with Lamar Jackson or the eagles did this past season with Jalen hurts where you're really gonna make him a feature of the Ron quarterback run RPO game, which if you do that, I think it could translate, but can you open it up and we're seeing that debate right now is Lamar Jackson like can he evolve into a quarterback or doesn't even have to because the ravens are pretty much made it all clear. We're good with what the way he's playing the game, but it does come with risks and if teams start to figure that out and they take away the quarterback run game, then we've seen kind of Lamar Jackson come back to reality and I think that's the risk you want with Malik Willis. Now the upside on him, could he become a hybrid sort of 'cause he's not as fast as Lamar Jackson and he's not as big arm talent as Josh Allen so he's kind of like I see him as a combo of those two, but on the up or down it's like not the same. Does that make sense? Those are the comparisons I've mold them together, but you don't get the best of either one. So like you might swing for the fences and get a really good quarterback, but then I think you might be in a conundrum like you are with Lamar Jackson. Like if you tailor the system to them, can you stick with it and you can win long term with it? Like in your quite like your thing too, if I was a team I would be like and I took some heat for saying that this quarterback class sucks as a whole because it does like top to bottom. There's really not one guy there's no consensus number one. The debates we've even here just around two of them kind of see like safety valve pick or a swing for the fences with a pretty high risk of bust. I would desperately be trying to trade out and trade down or I would be looking at the free agent market over these quarterbacks. And then what I would do is I would love to take a swing on a guy in a second or third round like a Desmond Ritter, a Sam Howell if he drops somebody like that where you don't have to invest the first round pick and there's so much depth of talent at the wide receiver position. Other positions that you could bolster up in the first round and I would rather say, let me take a flyer on one of these other quarterbacks in the second or third round and see if that's the type of upside you get as opposed to taking a much riskier play and investment in a higher investment in one of these guys in the first round. Have you watched a lot of the kid from Nevada, Carson strong? Because I can't tell if it's like he'd be the cover of a magazine, you know, he would be when you see his when he's drafted and you see his B roll, people are going to go, wait a minute. Like, why is this guy behind all these other people? But we've covered so I saw him a lot. I'm a lot. So I did CBS Sports Network like Friday night games and the mountain west was featured on there. So we saw a lot of his.

"Three rules or whatever. It would be like, whatever set in here stays in here, I think there was one other one that I don't remember and it was like never you can never gamble on these games or whatever. And that was like minor league baseball, but it was just, hey, make sure that it's always up and it sounds stupid, but I can not emphasize the point enough. When you're a pro athlete, you reminded of it constantly and for good reason. So when you fuck it up, I have almost no sympathy for you. I'm with you on that. And I know, I think we might even have this conversation around Pete Rose when he was, you know, whatever time he was trying to get reinstated or something, where I totally understand the mindset if you bet on yourself. Like, and we use that term all the time when guys bet on themselves in a contract year and they don't, you know, they don't negotiate they'll hold out or whatever the case may be like Joe Flacco is the best example of not taking a deal and saying, I'm going to run this wins a Super Bowl and it pays off. We use that terminology all the time. And I get thinking, well, what's wrong with Calvin Ridley, you know, as long as he bets, as long as he's betting on his team to win, then by all means, like, why wouldn't you? And as a fan, I would want like, if I'm betting on my team, I'd want the players betting on that team, but you just can't because of and they're what might be a lot of guys that can handle that. Be like, yeah, I'm gonna put, it's not a debt. If he's making $10 million, what's $50,000 to put a little extra on his team winning? But it's there's so much at stake when you think about the NFL and integrity of the game, which is already come under fire. And for everyone who says, well, what about the hypocrisy of the NFL having these partnerships with the casinos? Well, the more money the NFL makes in revenues from all over the place, the players get a piece of that. So it's not like the players aren't benefiting off the partnerships that the NFL has with these various casinos and sportsbooks across the country. But the players have to understand and most of them do that's just simply something you can't do. You just can't because what if there was that one scandal that came out, the damage it could do to the sport as a whole, it's just not worth it. So that would be, that's always the coat, like the coaches that were more like practical, they're like, look, we get it. It's fun to gamble. I could see that. Just wait until you're done playing. Like, can you push it off a few years, ten years, whatever it is, and then do whatever you want and gamble whatever you want on football or whatever sport it is. But for now, you just got to put it on the shelf. Let's bring you in and talk a little draft here. Because you've had a little bit more time removed from the college football season. And we knew that this quarterback class was not one of the greats. You know, I always kind of feel like, yeah, we get a little closer to this though. You can see somebody swinging and pick four or 5, depending on somebody who wants to move around a little bit. I have seen whether it's picket, I've seen corral, I've seen Malik Willis, who I think is whatever riser would be in this stage. To me, there's no definitive number one mock quarterback, and I've seen it all over the place. Do you have one that you like more than the others? Can he pick it's my number one, but I feel like he's the safest option. And maybe that's a reflection on me, what I would do with this class or if I was a GM, I'd want something that, hey, I wasn't going to see a complete flop. And I do think there's some high risk of those with the other guys. That being said, I feel like the ceiling is not much higher for Kenny Pickett. Like, I feel like his season that he had this year with and I was looking back like, all right, and watching several years of film, like, why all of a sudden did he go from a quarterback who was very pedestrian, 13 touchdowns, 8 or 9 interceptions just exploding on the scene with 42 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. And Jordan Addison, his receiver is a game changer. I mean, it's pretty glaring. I mean, he had 17 touchdowns. He opened things up for that offense. Like you hadn't seen. But then I think the problem I have with Kenny Pickett is like the best case scenario for Kenny Pickett, I think is turning him into or he becomes Andy Dalton or a Kirk Cousins. Who are really and if he does like good for him, I'd take that all day. You can make Kirk Cousins making $35 million a year like good for Kenny Pickett. And I think even that is projecting him into a best case scenario. And I feel like the worst case scenario for him is he's like a 7 or 8, maybe a decade long backup. You know, which is good, like again, but do you want to draft somebody with a top ten top 15 pick where that's the option? So I like him. He's my number one, but I think it's like.

"Part of the podcast. Unite, come on. Maybe it would have been maybe. Maybe it would have been more successful if we would have called it ignite. Welcome into ignite. Here's the thing. Here's the thing. I will maintain you could enhance the abs that are already there with the light airbrush. You can't just create a 6 pack. It was just slightly slightly enhanced. I did have a better 6 pack than maybe I've ever had in my life. That was right when I moved to Canada was working out a ton excited about a new job at ESPN. I was in good shape. I don't know. I'm not saying you weren't bad shape, 'cause I've never I've never felt like you were totally in bad shape. And but the 6 pack at a certain age to try to get it. Unless you just cut, just cut like crazy, it's so hard. So, all right, okay, so we did 7 minutes on that 8 minutes. Sorry about that. That's good. I want to talk to you after you. Let's do this first. Did you ever bet on NFL games while you were playing? No. Simple question. And I know where you want to go as the Calvin Ridley stuff. I never knew about gambling. And I did not know what minus three plus three went. I could not have told you. Like I knew favorite the theme that was supposed to win, but I had never paid attention to the numbers after it had zero clue, which is kind of fascinating because speaking of unite, which I was on, they really wanted to embrace gambling. And I had to study what is lay the points, what is take the points, like what is the over under like, I had to learn the lingo. Where did that take like an afternoon? It wasn't exactly complex. It wasn't like an NFL playbook. And I learned, that's actually when I set up the first account that I had. Like I was like, all right, I'm just going to go all in and start gambling. Then that's the best way to start using it. But I never noticed anybody gambling on games talking about it. Are we the three point favorite? No one. Never saw any of it. Now gambling, the casino, much more serious problem. I did do that all the time. I mean, when I was with the Giants, Mondays, we would have film session in the afternoon. We finished up around 5 o'clock. You get a lift and you'd watch the film. And there was a limo from either Caesars or heroes or one of the casinos and it would be there just to take the guys down to Atlantic City. You could hop in, they'd treat you great, go down, play blacks, play blackjack craps, whatever you wanted to. I mean, they took care of you because they knew you could be high rollers, and you could, and it was great for their business. So from that aspect, gambling has always been pretty prevalent with players. I mean, back of the plane, guys playing cards, thousands and thousands of dollars exchanged, but nobody ever talked about losing a game or, you know, gambling on the NFL. And I don't, honestly, I don't remember guys even gambling on college football other than my school's play in your school, what's on the game. Like, that was it. Other than that, I don't remember anybody really talking about gambling on sports. I don't know what The Rookie, you know, transition was like, but did they talk to you about it? I mean, I know they do it now, nonstop. But did they talk to the scared straight talk? Yeah. Absolutely. And it's everywhere in this is even before, you know, it's been so prevalent in society. It was always, here's the worst take example, and it was archly. He was the one, but there's signage all over too. There's a sign everywhere you go. And it was usually all the same. Like steroids, you know, the PB stuff. Domestic violence was always harped on. Like, don't do anything foolish, don't get arrested. Don't hit women and gambling. You literally could not do it. Of all the things like when I look at what happened to Calvin Ridley and it's not that like most of the rules in the NFL they're really an IQ test. Just don't be a dumb ass and you'll be fine and it goes back to marijuana. I mean, even though they've lightened up the policy, it was always kind of new when the test was going to be. You just had to be smart around when do you smoke because most of the guys did smoke even when I played and you just had to be kind of cognizant of when it was on the calendar and you could work around it and if you didn't, it was kind of like what are you doing? Like you knew when this was going to be and I would say that's similar to Calvin Ridley like how could you be foolish enough to open an account with all your information on it at a casino in Florida? Like it's not offshore, it's not anything with like digital information attached to it. It just to me it makes no sense. Maybe you saw his tweets when he's out there saying, well, it was only 1500 bucks. I mean, maybe in his mind he felt like that would be a differentiator, but they're very clear cut that it is not allowed at all. Yeah, that's kind of my point in the open is that I remember the first job I had in baseball. It was the first media job I had O2 with minor league baseball and there was signs everywhere. And it was because of something now that's happened a hundred years ago. You know, the reason we have such strict baseball policies in this case now, a football policy, which, you know, in a way, Ridley can get reinstatement in a year. That's not even close to what rose is facing here. Decades of a ban, and I have no problem with rose having that kind of band, because I don't believe I've never believed Pete Rose. I always thought he was full of shit and anybody that knows anybody like sometimes I wonder how. Aware, I guess I'd put it this way. Do you know anyone in your life, not you specifically, but just when I hear people talk about gambling, do you know anybody that's degenerate? Because I do. And I know that that guy would sell a kidney for a fucking win. On a Sunday Night game. You know what I mean? Like, I know what it's like and to think that Pete Rose, who's an ultimate degenerate, wouldn't be manipulating some of the outcomes somewhat to get himself out of a hole so that the envelope goes a different direction when he has to meet up with his guy and when people want to downplay that or they don't have any exposure to somebody that has issues or any of that kind of stuff. You're just like, well, then you don't really get it, which I thought was unfortunately a lot of times on social media, a collection of people that I'm like, you guys just don't understand this. And when I had that baseball gig, I remember that sign being like three rules or whatever. It would be like, whatever set in here stays in here, I think there was one other one that I don't remember and it was like never you can never gamble on these games or whatever. Biggest story of the news yesterday, NFL receiver Ridley with the Atlanta Falcons played 5 games from last year, remember took some time away, wanted to work on his mental health. So he was on the non football injury list and during that time in November, he bet some parlays on an app. He had a three teamer in there, 5 team or 8 teamer. He said he lost only 1500 bucks, this was tracked because he put his own information into the app and then the NFL works with different places to kind of just look over this stuff and they were like, hey, this player active player. He's betting on NFL games. And you get banned for a year. You can't do it, all right? It sounds really simple, and there are very few things I think in life that we should all be able to agree on, but this should be one of them. If you're an active player in your league, you can't bet on those games. You just can't. I mean, this is a reason why we talk about Pete Rose having a lifetime ban now for decades, okay? You can not invite speculation into the legitimacy of your product if the outcomes are the product. I think that's pretty clear. But I knew it. I knew it. I'm like, okay. Let's see who's got what? Let's see them all. Let's see who has the worst takes on Ridley being suspended a year. My florio Emmanuel acho parlay smashed. I was like, oh, here we go. All right, florio was arguing with Albert breer, and essentially florio had said, look, the league is earning millions through the peddling a consumer product that it won't let it players consume. It's a tad f'd up. No, it isn't. No, it isn't. And by the way, the league made, according to Florida last year, $270 million in revenue from gambling partnerships. It's everywhere. We're part of it. I'm probably going to throw this open to an ad about placing your own same game parlay. If you're an NFL player who's active, don't bet on games in your league, but you don't have to worry about that right now, because you're not in season. And by the way, florio himself pointed out, it's great for football, but it comes with inherent warning for the current stewards of the game. If some of that revenue isn't devoted to ensuring the accuracy of calls, protecting inside information, preventing corruption of coaches players and officials and otherwise safeguarding the integrity of the game, the league will be stepping into a bear trap eventually. So Florian himself last year was warning that, you know, hey, you can't invite in this gray area. And then you have a player who bets who does the thing that you want to protect you against, you're saying it wasn't that bad. But the worst one was probably a manual acho who posted a video. And look, he just wanted to retweets, but it was a video of Ridley cutting off some routes, a little short of the sticks. I don't think it's entirely fair. Maybe there's something there. Maybe the story gets bigger, but I don't know that it's entirely fair to post the video and then speculate as if there's this well. Who knows? He was short of the sticks there. Why did he cut off that breakaway route against Kansas City? What happened there? I'll admit, even if it looks a little weird, it's a little weird, but I also think it's entirely unfair to do to Ridley. But hey, again, people have made a career after just retweeting other people's fucking videos. So I'm not entirely surprised that it happened. And then that turned into a whole thing and then he deleted the tweet. All right, so here's another part of it that's worth mentioning. If the league is making 270 million this past year on gambling partnerships, guess who also makes out on that money. The players. So even though people kind of love to find hypocrisy and things, I really do. I think our society, I don't know if this is another country's too, but it always kind of makes you feel like it's back to my college football rant that I always go to where if you already expect to get fucked over because you get fucked over and so many different things in life that you're like, oh, hey, well, you're a hypocrite. That's hypocritical. That shouldn't happen. I actually don't think this is hypocrisy. I don't think it's hypocrisy for the league to have gambling partnerships and say, hey, by the way, the reason our league is so successful is because people think it's legitimate and they're entertained and we have these outcomes that people don't expect because it's sports and it's life and any given Sunday and all of that stuff and that if people found out that it was fixed or certain players were fixing games for their own personal benefit or we're fixing games to get out of trouble because they were gambling with somebody that they shouldn't have been gambling with, then yeah, that would be a problem for a business that's hoping to one day generate $20 billion in revenue. I also think that the Miami Dolphins part of this is relevant, but I'm not sure it's the same thing because as soon as Calvin Ridley, which again is one of my biggest premises. We have someone who is very obvious to blame and in this case, it's Calvin Ridley. He is the person that fucked up. It is a very nasty punishment. You're going to lose like 11 million in salary by being dismissed for the entire year. He can appeal this within days. You can ask for reinstatement in February of 2023. Okay, so just to clear that part of it up. But we have the person to blame and Ridley, but then it's like, we have a who else can we blame? Can we blame a bunch of other people? Can we blame the NFL because of these partnerships?.

But i think that fans are gonna be annoyed by this so they could take some of the passion and some of the excitement out of the games and i kind of agree with the players here. That unless you're going to throw a flag for every celebration then you're leaving it in the hands and in the eyes and in the interpretation of a referee to decide what twenty years and. i think. I kind of like washington. I love what they've done in their front seven. We touched on it last week. I think the chase yang is a fringe defensive player of the year candidate and a guy based on what he did as a rookie. And what he's shown so far through training camp and the preseason who has a real potential to be a double digit sack guy. This year in his second fell season. And that offense. You have terry mccaren. Who's a top eight or nine wide receiver in the league. Really like antonio gibson. He's a swiss army knife of running back. Really tile guy who can get you close to eight hundred to one thousand yards on the ground three or four hundred five hundred yards through the air so there are a lot of weapons there and you drop in. A veteran established quarterback ryan fitzpatrick at this stage of his career. Isn't a franchise quarterback but he can be an alex smith level game manager. He can be a kirk cousins type of quarterback in that offense which with that defense in that division at nyc. Look the dallas cowboys. Have one of the more explosive supporting cast in the league. I think the giants have a lot of question. Marks from daniel jones on down in the eagles are probably two or so years away from being in a position to compete for the nfc east. So you might not need anything. More than an alex smith or kirk cousins type of quarterback performance from ryan fitzpatrick to win nine or ten games. And i've said it before. I've written about it before. I really believe the nfc east. This year won't be anything near the laughing stock that it was a year ago in a seventeen game season. I think it is very much an legitimately arrays to ten or eleven wins between the cowboys washington and the giants and washington's right in that mix. Now they're not a team that i'm gonna put in the same conversation as the green bay packers the tampa bay buccaneers. So i think our head and shoulders above the rest of the conference. And i think they're the to odds on favorites to go to the nfc championship game. I'd put the los angeles rams in that conversation. And maybe the san francisco forty niners but washington's in that very next year there in that next year of teams with the cowboys with the arizona cardinals with the new orleans saints. If they can figure out their quarterback situation stay healthy. They're one of those second tier competitors in contenders in the nfc. And i think that's a really bad spot to be for a coach a team. The bears. Play andy dalton. Even if they play in week one you come back home from a road trip week one you come back home and you play the bengals at home at soldier field. Okay so you play. What are you accomplish their if justin fields wings the job if mack jones wins the job both of these guys have looked really good in their first taste of preseason action if they win the job doing playing the veteran quarterback for a week or two players in the locker room now they see the kid gives them the chance to win. They see the kid can make every throw in the playbook they see. The kid has the command of the offense and the respect of his teammates. Whether it's just drones pile. And i think the bears you know. I don't think they're going to be a playoff team with justin field this year but that defense the top fifteen defense in the league. I think the patriots on the other hand with mack jones with the supporting cast. They've built around him with bill belichick as head coach. The patriots have a real chance of going to the postseason. Making a wildcard ron. And you know maybe splitting with the buffalo bills and putting themselves in a position to make the playoffs with nine or ten wins. I think that's a very real possibility that i don't know that you have that. Same upside with cam. Newton a quarterback. And i know it's preseason i get that and you don't wanna you know extrapolate too much from these games especially once we now have seen head coaches around the nfl. Tell you exactly what they think of. Preseason football the. It couldn't be more obvious now for years. We've always heard about how preseason games are so meaningful for guys forty five through sixty on the roster forty seven through fifty three the guys at the very bottom of the roster that these are the reps these the snaps. These preseason games are what matter this is. What's going to decide who makes the roster and who's selling used cars in a week. But i don't know the case. I mean what what. The eagles did on thursday night resting. Everybody yes they play. Jalen reiter yes. They played devante smith yes. They played their starting offensive line for about a series but outside of that it was the third and fourth string defense. You'll get the giants and joe george. They didn't play anybody in the first. Preseason game they played darius laden wide receiver almost inexplicably with the first team offense and put him out there. Meanwhile avenue ingram and sterling. Shepard are both hanging out on the side. Daniel jones was in street quotes. And you might not play against the browns on saturday night but just look at what coaches are telling you. They're telling you these. Preseason games don't matter we've always seen it with the very venerable game plans.

"If you're going to go through that type of performance over two weeks only two putts. The rest results in putting points on the scoreboard. We touched on it a bit last week after mack jones in the patriots preseason opener against the washington football team where i thought that the word that came to mind to describe jones was efficiency. Well he took that to the next level against the eagles on thursday night. Because when you have those kinds of possessions that you're stacking gird drives on top good drives. It just goes to show you that you have command to the offense it goes to show you that you really understand the playbook. You're not making mistakes out there. You're proving that against nfl competition and even bottom of the roster nfl competition. You can move the football. And he makes all the throws he's shown that he has plus arm strength. And you can see those things regardless of who's on the other side of the football. Who ever is going defense so the jones that we saw last week and the jones that we saw on thursday night and the justin fields from the chicago bears that we saw in their preseason opener against the miami dolphins. Those are two quarterbacks at absolutely have to start week one. It doesn't matter to me that the bears went out and got andy dalton. Who has the chance to be a really nice mentor. In a veteran presence in the bears quarterback room it matter to me that the patriots went and they invested another year in cam newton and brought him back circumstances change. And if you're looking at the patriots from new england perspective having cam newton around you know he's a very serviceable backup. And we've seen quarterbacks got hurt all the time we've seen seasons get torpedoed by quarterback getting hurt. And if i'm nobel check. I i'm fully comfortable putting can new out there in a backup situation if jones should get hurt and if i'm the chicago bears and i'm ryan pace and i'm matt nagy and my future and my job. Security is tied to justin fields. I'm sorry andy dalton. I know that we brought you in here. I know that we had our social media staff tweet out. Qb one back during ta's but when you trade a future first round pick in a fifth round pick to go up and get just fields and you take him number. Ten overall and your job is very much on the line. He had been to a super bowl with the philadelphia eagles. He had been to five. Nfc championships with the philadelphia eagles. He had a very patient fan base. He had the the total respect of the ownership group. The hunt family to do what he needed to do without smith and there was a vision there and they thought that patrick mahomes wasn't ready to play as a rookie and it worked out just fine. Mahomes is arguably the greatest quarterback currently walking the planet and the chiefs are going for a third straight super bowl bid and a second super bowl title in three years. I i think it's extremely hard for further the atoms to be able to repeat a stat like that eighteen receiving closer. If he doesn't have aaron rodgers he could be down to ten receiving touchdowns in that already gives him a huge bump down on the list and he would not have been the number one receiver last season if he if he put up like ten touchdowns. So i think we're going to see a big difference in touchdowns for davonte ounce without potentially aaron rodgers especially in the long term. And i think that with the fact that he's twenty eight years old as well it leaves it leaves me with a bunch of uncertainty by number five.
