So then you making these moves and then you still got to go to get to him and make another move to get to your route. So that was a great technique as far as you know, it really dropped timing when you got to make your move at the line of scrimmage taking time. And then you got to make another one and he's going to bump you and ride you to the biggest and strong. So it was tough. You know, the guy has long arms and he played the hell out of that technique and helped him stay on top of the receiver. And now this is going to be your, I guess, third full year being a Hall of Famer. Yes about six weeks. Thirty five to seven there. Yes five and a half weeks away. So they're saying could be back for the regular season or could miss. The i seven weeks. I it doesn't make sense. Don't these doctors have some sort of range where it's like five twelve weeks. Even though it's a seven-week difference. There is some sort of at least some time in there that he's gonna be buying. It doesn't make sense. I've never fully understand understood the projections. And i don't think doctors necessarily enjoy projections. Either because situations are as you know what happens if his foot takes something differently than any other foot in history which does happen in the field of science and medical all the time so i think doctors and shit don't necessarily love the projections because they're not absent. Sure but we've seen people beat all projections as well. Adrian peterson came back quicker than any acl injury and the history and then broke the entire nfl. Record i mean. There's been numerous cases people beating projections and coming back earlier. The five to twelve weeks is a massive window to who talk such bomber for the colts. Yeah i'm people's he was only your second round. It's too fucking philadelphia. Was an i respect philadelphia for all things that are philadelphia but the most philadelphia thing of all time to do is somebody. That is a colts fan for philadelphia. Person i go up to them. Happy anniversary to the wife was hope she had an incredible weekend. I did we enjoy the people. They're very nice once. The most upscale spawn the history of spas. Yeah it was. It was an ancient bath. Place all yes you go and hers bunch pools everywhere and it's down in the basement of this one place so you have your phone. Obviously so you check in all that headphone come put in the bag. They will pull you full for mass by the way. A chicago's back. I think a lot of the places are full back in the mask so full mask in this place. Walking you sit down. Then they get you in they. Have you go down into the basement and obviously in the basement. There's no windows or anything like that. There are seven thousand candles and as you turn the corner of steps. There's this pools everywhere with candles. Lit music playing very comfortable music. Blame there's all. There's like a world pool coal pool hot pool for paul light. Pause this pool that then that's beginning right as soon as you walk in. There's this thing called the flow..

"Father you know. I mean for me. Just having children mugging my dad and i see him. He'll swelled up with tears in just motion of from just happiness. Just see his kids and what they're doing right now. I can only imagine. I just want to be able to have that feeling when i get older odor. Just look back at podcasts in washington whether it's on the feel in a classroom wh what whatever it may be very cool and i know you got the young one near now. What is your bedtime routine. Look like here cabinet. you're a storyteller lullaby. Guy had a bedtime looking down. Yeah break it down for you code. Nine o'clock the three-year-old throughout the day. But he's ready to take another nap at nine o'clock But so that's my two year old and my nine year seven year old. We go down and nine o'clock Nine thirty depending on what time they got up from a nap. but go down. And i thought cleanup You know put up. A gentleman gone Brush our teeth. We read a book. we Turn on my year old. We have a little sound for him in the white noise and we pay our prayers and then everybody you know the breyer's rockabilly life out. We re to boulton prayer life out. It sounds so simple. Sometimes i know could be your diapers and stuff like that happened in between area. Only i gotta ask you here to about. I've had several dads on here from dancing with the stars of had one of the what are the professional dancers. Maximum called ski. I know you finish third on the place there in what was did you roped into this was is a volunteer thing on your part. What was your experience like dancing with the stars guy interest for you on starving scraping what they say like. I didn't i knew when we started. I never really watched the whole season. So i never understood going. You know the gravity of it and you know all the work that goes into it so A whole different level of appreciation for dan. You know truly a sport you know but it was Experience my wife is the only is basically the reason. Why did they called me three times. A total no every time and the third time when The phrase popular you know. I was like baby. They keep on asking me do shows like a yellow all right whatever and then on top of that. My older sister she said i couldn't and by by her. Have a whole different. Live with my okay. I don't go show you go you. You know the nerve wracking deal but you know it's one of those things is just like you know you put your mind and energy and the attitude that four you can do it yeah. I think it's so cool to see this other side especially when you see the pro football guys on there and they say to and they say just like you do about the hard work that goes into it and you get more of appreciation for it. But i think it's so cool to see everybody Getting involved in shows like that and obviously now you have the primitive going. That's your frontside focus here. What are the kind of own goals plans. You happy yourself for the future. It really continue continuing the mass of canada's man. You know it'd be innovative in space and and really just all on my foundation you know. Continue to give back and help those around me and my community that i live in and his life played a loved one people around me though the family but continue that legacy foundation and primitive the fight right now in honestly you know. "Hey mike thanks for joining me man. Yes so hooley pablo. I've been wanting to come on the show for a while. Michael rothstein is espn's detroit lions beat writer and he's covered michigan sports for more than a decade. Well it's your time. Calvin johnson weekend just wrapped up and you covered him during his nine year. Career with the detroit. Lions and calvin johnson was just elected to the pro football hall of fame now officially establishing him as one of the greatest receivers players of all time. So what's the reaction been like from the himself. Calvin johnson's not somebody who gets emotional. Ever if you remember him during press conferences during his time in the nfl he wouldn't say all that much. He's a very quiet guy but you could see on the video that they showed on the nfl honor show. He got emotional. He started crying. You started tearing up five years. Anything i want to see to my peers city unfolds. Keep stacking good the top of good days. It always going to be perfect. The volume striving for probation. No you you're gonna be alright so this is clearly an emotional moment for a player that often didn't get a ton of attention for being as good as he was because of the teams that he was on johnston touchdown detroit. Linebacker cut staff to tort. Lines god yeah and the team that he was on the detroit lions. He made so much news mike at the time when he left the game back in two thousand and fifteen remind us why and what happened. There was a multitude of factors but the biggest wind. It was that he's body was just breaking down on side of retire based off of my body film. The way i feel mentally and all those things working together one you know my job is kissed ball. You know someone catching the ball when that kinda hurts another flat his fingers and this is a podcast so people can't see it but like his fingers are bent in like all these different directions. His finger man. This is something else People like otherwise. You put down social media on things like ashley wearing away. I had dinner with him probably a year after he retired and we were sitting. There were talking. He's telling me about his fingers. And i was like it's that finger right. He's like no. It's this one. That's how beat up fingers were was that the mangled finger that was going the different direction. That was the good finger. Yeah that was the better finger and beyond that if you remember dancing with the stars pretty soon. After retirement a play professional football us would have detroit lions. I'm on dancing with the stars. Because i wanna prove my sister. Sister lily told the world. That could not dance. We'll have to redeem myself. He almost had to quit dancing. With the stars he finished third by the way had to quit because ankles were so bad and that was what was play games ankles and his knees towards the end of his career that he could not necessarily dance during the week and he was really worried about being able to complete that

Andrew Luck's Retirement Highlights the NFL's Growing Problem
"Know what it wasn't long ago. I think it was last week when two weeks ago when mclovin said hey how about this poll question is andrew lock more likely to be an slight disappointment or hall of famer and this is when the ankle injury came. I remember it was the calf and then the owner robert say said i think it's an ankle and then i started to think there's more involved in this. There's more to this story. Sorry ben just glynn from the calf to a high ankle. I don't even i still don't know what he has but we know it serious enough that he announced his retirement and everybody's got an opinion on this. His decision to retire was a shock to the system for you know the the entire n._f._l. Nation when people say boy oy this is the most shocking football story we've ever heard i mean like new. No no no no how about we start with o._j. Simpson michael vick aaron hernandez. Those are shocking stories. Andrew looks different cat all right he is. He went back to college to get his degree. He could have left after his junior year. He went back to get his degree in architectural design. I believe he there are guys who are or football players and then there guys who play football most our football players j._j. Watt is a football player. Should he still be playing football. No no not at all but it andrew luck is a guy who is a guy who was good at playing football. I don't know if he's a a football guy and there's a difference in that but that doesn't mean he wasn't good at it or didn't love it. I just think that we're we're so unfamiliar. Oh you're with an athlete who uses logic where you go. What are you doing. Most football players in pauley had the analogy. Let's say you have a rock rock in your shoe. Most football players will continue to play in fact. Stop down on the rock. Where is andrew luck goes. How about. I just take the rock in my shoe. I mean it sounds logical. He just took the rock out of a shoe. Football players will tie the shoe differently like they'll somehow find a way. Hey i'll walk differently who care i'll take madison. Shoot me up. Whatever andrew lucked just said. I'm gonna take the the pebble <music> out. He's removing football from his life. Everybody has an opinion on this and when he started rattle off the list of injuries it makes a lot of sense but it's hard for us to imagine and by the way athletes are just commodities. We've moved on from all of these athletes. We don't care really don't care eric. Dickerson joined us in los angeles when we were out there and here's one of the great running backs of all time any looked great. I said the kind you look like you could give me a couple of carries. He said people don't realize the toll that this takes on goes. I slept in a reclining chair for two years because i had neck and back injuries. Nobody cares about eric dickerson's injuries. Nobody cared about jim. Mcmahon's injury his health. He thought about killing himself. We move on and andrew luck realizes that and yes he got paid paid and the reason for people to be upset and how do you do this to your team. And how do you quit on your team. I understand those emotions. I really do but i have to look at this and say andrew. Luck did what andrew luck thought he needed to do. Is it inexcusable to you know oh colts fans. Yeah i get that. I don't think he's saying boy. Watch what i'm gonna do. I'm going to set up the colts for failure now. I don't think i think that he had to process this. It took a long time. It's something you do you do well. It's your identity and maybe he doesn't want that is his identity and can you get away from this. You know the guys who had all the surgeries. I'm seeing all of this stuff here. Everybody's saying how do you do. I understand all of those emotions. Russians here but andrew lock did what andrew lucked thought he needed to do. If barry sanders was a quarterback and he walked away we would have abba bigger issue with what barry sanders did at age thirty-one calvin johnson at aged thirty. Jim brown age thirty. What are you doing walking away from the sport. Guess you've got a contract extension. There are a lot of questions. I have ranted you luck in this situation. When did you really know and when did you let the cold snow and what is the reason. Is there more surgery down. The road like you went through shoulder. You had and i put some of this on the colts by the way ryan grigson in particular the former g._m. What did i say for years. You have this investment. It's like having this unbelievable engine but then you have a car that's falling apart. You traded for trent richardson. You didn't use any lyman you finally went out and got quinton nelson and what happened. Andrew luck had the best season of his career. He had the fewest sacks. It's not something that takes a whole lot of thought. Hey how about we have a good offensive line. Chances are andrew. Luck might be able to play play a little bit longer but so many injuries and then you start to get down on yourself and you get in your head and you don't wanna go through it and and i look i couldn't play the game. I've told you if you ever watched a game on the sidelines. You never let your kids play. It is violent. It's more violent than you think because when you hear it you can close your eyes on the sidelines just listen. There's no way you go yep. I want to play play. I know we're macho. I know we all wanna play through pain. I did stupid things with my knee and my shoulder waited thirty five the years to get my torn rotator and i'm not even a pro athlete. I have an artificial knee because i was stupid when i played this guys out there and they're taking shots at him. He's getting hit lacerated kidney. He's got shoulder. He's got yeah. I understand all of these injuries. Do we want him out there. Yes because it's about us he. What are you doing to my fantasy team. Hey what you doing to my colds. You're you guys got a chance to. I understand hold loose things but this is something that we don't understand an athlete who says i'm gonna take a logical approach. He's a guy he's got a flip phone. He's got a book club. I mean he he's not your normal guy. Hi and we can't understand this. He's newly married. We can't understand this because all of us would go. I killed a play and make that kind of money and be a starting starting quite yes. This story is about us in how we perceive. This people didn't play wanna tell you they would play or how oh you need to play or. What's wrong with your your soft. You gotta take a step back and andrew luck. Doing i see all of this twitter chatter. Oh this is going to stay with him forever. I is very sanders. A quitter calvin johnson a quitter. Is jim brown a quitter right i. I haven't heard that i'd never heard somebody say. Jim brown's a quitter. Barry sanders quit walked down on the <hes> the lines how can you do. I guess andrew luck is a quitter but i'm guessing will move past this calvin johnson. Is he a quitter or see smart. I don't know i just i saw this reaction this vitriol that andrew luck how dare you do for this. He walked away from his team. I get i get it. He gave up on a sport. He excels at but no matter what people say. I think we can all agree. Andrew luck was outstanding when he did play and wishing luck and no pun intended with his life after football.

"Of sports where Andrew luck has announced his retirement Joan I thought we were going to be talking about college football tonight is Florida holds on to beat Miami twenty four to twenty in weeks zero of college football camping world stadium in Orlando we had our many D. as turnover chain topics ready to go and Angela decides to retire one of the most shocking sports stories that I could ever remember Jalen it's got to be right up there I remember the night Barry Sanders retired and that was really shocking I remember being in school as a kid when Magic Johnson announced that he had HIV that's got to be I mean as far as just flooring you with news because it also had to do with magic self people always say Jim brown's retirement a year after going to a championship game and and be in really good to you know go hang out with rock hell well should make a bunch action movies is one of the craziest retirement stories ever but did this this one will crack that all time crazy list I'm with you on Magic Johnson and H. I. V. that rocked everybody's world and then the other one that comes to mind is Michael Jordan retiring after winning championships and then he suddenly starts playing baseball with the Birmingham barons so when those stories though have some other impacts you know with Michael Jordan you can always get into the speculation as to why he was really gone from the NBA and played baseball for a little bit of time you bring up Barry Sanders that seems to be a franchise issue with the Detroit Lions when it comes to putting a good team around star players and money Calvin Johnson actually has a similar situation on going right now with the lines this one to me is just sad it's sad it's disappointing in the sense that Andrew luck had so much going for him coming into the NFL he was gonna be ushering in the next wave of quarterbacks that we were gonna be talking about the same regard as Tom Brady and Peyton manning and as we've mentioned couple times already Peyton manning's actually gonna out last Andrew luck and that's where we are tonight yeah it's yeah we we use the word disappointing earlier when we were looking for the one word to sum up his career because neither one of us felt like a botched was appropriate despite the note a Superbowl absolutely not yeah one of the most ballyhooed quarterbacks of all time yeah he is a four time pro bowler he is he a hall of Famer I mean that that that is a double the rate over the next couple so how about slow down the hall of fame come on how about how about that give me one give me one minute Joe is Andrew luck a hall of Famer to give you one second no come on that is the one of the best quarterbacks of his era yes we barely saw what he was four time Pro Bowl well I backstabber I mean is there like a rookie wing of the hall of fame that we could put it right now that's a silly conversation in that I've seen it kind of pop up on social media but I do think that these silly conversation right now what's not so the conversation is what do the colts do going forward I think we're gonna be finding out more about Andrew luck situation in the next coming days and Adam Schefter broke the news is most definitely going to fill in some of these gaps whether they know how long this conversation going on but you do have the immediate impact of football not just for the call from cell to the division and what the AFC playoffs
