Miami Marlins 2020 MLB Ranking
"So I look through the entire National League will start with the bottom. It's going to be the Miami Marlins this year. Marlins a couple of interesting pieces in the lineup to wear their lineup went from That's just horrific to. Oh you know it could kind of hit. I guess I mean you've got Jonathan Vr. They added that amazes aggie Lars well and those two guys both should be over eight hundred s this year. Vr might get over. But there's just no big Bat Corey dickerson's GonNa back clean up clean up in this lineup we've got Corey dickerson. Banning CLEAN UP. It's just not a good look for the Miami Marlins so the lineup is at best. It's a below average lineup and major league baseball but it might sneak into the top twenty in terms of runs scored. Maybe if some of these guys pan out well if they hit more home runs than expected so maybe some of these guys and up in the top twenty and combine that with their puke or the rotation. They're number one as projected. This year is is a man named Caleb Smith who I'll be frank. I had not heard of Caleb Smith much before doing a lot of research on the MARLINS and the reason for that is. He's turning twenty eight. This will only be as fourth season in the big leagues and he has not had any. Ra below four a single year of his career his debut season in eighteen innings pitched seven seventy IRA sixteen games pitched his second year. Four one nine and last year in his first full season of four or five two and I just don't see a twenty eight year old starter. That's been unable to get under a forty hour that took forever to get a major league baseball getting much better than he is now. And that's pretty much the only hope for the Marlins in terms of any sort of competent rotation and then you go to the bullpen. And it's even worse for the Miami Marlins. One guy is projected under a four Yara and it's Brandon Kessler. Who spoke to be there closer. And it's three eight one projection by Roh world. It's not exactly impressive Kessler Guy. That's turning thirty five. Just coming off his best relief season. And let me ask you this. How many guys have had their best relieving season as a relief pitcher between the ages of thirty and thirty five? How many guys have the next year been just as dominant as a relief pitcher? It doesn't happen often. I The reds had a bunch of relievers that would have a great season at age thirty three and then you expect that type of production to replace itself going into the next year it never does. They usually find it one of the tank. Everybody gets a scouting report on them. They're fastball loses. Some speed they suffer some sort of injury throughout the year. So the fact that that's their best reliever a thirty five year old coming off. His best season is another horrific sign for the Miami. Marlins combine all those facts and that is why the Miami marlins according to pagoda are expected to be seventy one in ninety road. World has them at sixty nine hundred ninety three. They're coming off a fifty seven win season in two thousand
We know the Trump impeachment trial was historic. Here are some moments that made it memorable.
"The president dodges a removal from office the impeachment ends in acquittal I'm just kind of curious I guess when you see how this played out is is this gonna may be tipped the scales a little more toward the executive branch you think the president's gonna have a little more power now moving forward you know I don't think so I know some people are talking about that being a possibility maybe Adam Bolden's president trump to do some things but I don't think it really changes the power dynamics between congressman presidency those things have been changing for you know over a hundred years really the president's grown in power congresses are given some of that power back you could also argue that the threat to impeachment carrying out impeachment on voting in a trial maybe will chase and president trump little bit at least let him know that impeachment a real possibility so it could go one of two directions the president trump doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who's gonna be chastened by what took place yeah well he he doesn't involve him in the office but it might embolden more on the campaign trail a very well could very well could and if he does what does that look like that would be my question he's he's pretty he's pretty much out there right now and he's doing rallies and stuff if it goes farther than it will definitely be worth watching okay so we'll keep an eye on that I'm curious to what do you make of Mitt Romney breaking ranks far as I know he was the only Republican that voted against the president and you just kind of wondering knows that he's still got sour grapes because he ran for president didn't make it is he got some person with the president or did he just see the way the Democrats was a it was incredible a breach in the he should have been removed yeah it could be a combination of all of those things I think though we could at least say that for Romney it would've been easier to vote with all the other Republicans and he's gonna get if he's already gotten on social media he's already got an avalanche of reaction of the Republican National Committee disavowed and the Utah Republican Party disavowed his actions and so this is going to make it pretty lonely out there so it's a matter of sour grapes not winning the presidency in twenty twelve and he's gonna pay a price for that so I think that is probably more than that with him I you know he's he's will he have obviously a lot of money he's fine his future is cemented so it is a like he's gonna pay financial calls to lose a job is going to damage and but I think it's a fair bit of bravery foreign to step forward and become the first person in the Senate to ever vote to remove the president from his own party acting there had to be at least some principle involved in what he greeted him or not I think we want to see our politicians act the principal sometimes even there's a cost so that's the thing I mean you know Utah disavows a Republican Party disavows them but but ultimately will that maybe races stock people say well here's a guy that speaks his mind that's a guy we should pay attention to yeah I think so and and if you look at his numbers even in Utah he outperform the president pretty dramatically when he ran for reelection to the election two thousand nineteen I think he is far more popular and you saw the trumpeters and so it isn't as if you did this and he was from Alabama or South Carolina well and there's even a serious movement maybe even to recall ever get rid of them so and I think his stature will go up a little bit and certainly go up in the eyes of some Democrats and some other people who are always looking for those willing to criticize the president but I think it is a historic moment and every one of those things we talk about well in the future Dr mark Caleb Smith our guest director center for political studies at Cedarville university it kind of touched on it but you think you're gonna hear much more but I mean the president didn't talk about the impeachment all during the state of the union the state do you think it's going to be you know maybe via Twitter fast you think he's going to be talking about having beaten that to in the next day or two I think you will I don't think the president could real resisted for very long whether on Twitter or whether it's in his next campaign rally or whatever it may be I think it's gonna talk about us and he's gonna rather than the Democrats a little bit yeah this is going to keep him from giving the nicknames this is a guy keep him from bringing it up and using it as a campaign to all your yard talked over the last several months that we think may be the end of this president trump emerges stronger than he was before if you look at his public approval ratings it's taking up and I think it's going to help him for reelection and so if the Democrats of their whole goal was to weaken the president I think they failed I got just a couple of minutes before I got to get the traffic and weather so I'll ship it over Iowa you know I mean we got a debate for the Democrats Friday night the next the primary New Hampshire that's coming up early next week but I what I get I think I saw there down to ninety seven percent of the votes tallied and kind of what we knew seems to be holding true mayor Pete and Bernie the top two and you know really wafer thin margins between those two so do you feel like that blue ease them into the debate does that bully them into New Hampshire and conversely is that good because Biden and so forth is he going to be really out their guns you gonna try to get as much Mike time as he can during that Friday night debate it'll be interesting to watch I think the results certainly will help make your peace and health and moving forward every candidate it's going to benefit from a dramatic reading of the hand I don't think it's going to be enough to probably propelling toward surprise victory in New Hampshire he's moving in the polls a little bit New Hampshire right now but I would be stunned if anyone the burning lens that pretty decisively sorry in some way this is going to play out to form that's as Biden's done a little worse than we thought he's done a little bit better and the question really for me is give me once you get out of New Hampshire and you start to see places like South Carolina and Nevada voters will biting bubble back up again he doesn't but I think that's the end of the campaign yeah so if he doesn't you know the sense kind of was you know maybe month month and a half ago that he was kind of a National Front runner so if you're with the DNC right now you're probably doing some mad shuffling in re figuring archer I think that you are but you know I don't know you can really do about it I mean you could start you can go after Bernie you can send your proxies out there to attack burning and to try to get voters behind the more moderate choice would be interesting to see that of the elite sort of rally around P. as the alternative of the slightly more you know moderate midwestern kind of guy but you're gonna see some panic moments I think not unlike what we saw in twenty sixteen Republicans are grappling with what to do about from yeah well and then too I mean if it's mayor Pete moving forward I mean at least you can look back at Barack Obama and say well here's a guy that frankly didn't have a whole lot of experience that presented pretty well nice enough looking guy may your pizza similar in that regard is he not here and he's a he's obviously highly intelligent he's accomplished in his own way not a lot of political experience with more than Donald Trump had when he walked into the White House and I get the sense that he could probably hold is for the most part our debate stage of Donald Trump trump would make it personal trump would go after and as long as he could figure out we do all of that I think you'd be fine I I don't know that would be enough yeah but I think you probably would become a credible candidate doesn't have a nickname for him yet doesn't but I've heard okay just wait well that's the thing if you keep showing well you might have to work one up a doctor we always appreciate the time doctor might kill of Smith director center for political studies at Cedarville use
Mets slammed by Marlins, fall 5G back of Brewers with 6 left
"Home run for more Hey al floral as he took one just inside the foul pole pretty deep in the lower left field stands for now farro is sixteenth home run of the year and the Marlins have an early one to nothing lead up to the second how we rose WCBS eight eighty Alfaro would inflict far greater damage on the Mets in the sixth inning a grand slam that made it six nothing Miami and they went on to an eight to four women flushing Steven that's allowed six runs in five plus innings seized out ten and ten Caleb Smith the winner for runs over six those four came on one swing a grand slam in the bottom of the six by the Mets Ahmed Rosario Mets left eleven on base in this one mats is well aware that the Mets chances to make the playoffs are now all but nonexistent it's gonna be difficult but you know we've we've been down before and you know the scene showed a lot of fight this season I think that's we're gonna do right to the end you know unfortunately I wasn't able to pick up the guys tonight but I know you know gone forever we're gonna put our best foot forward now listen to going to be on the mound for the Mets tonight there five games behind idle Milwaukee for the last nationally playoff spot with six games left

"Nuts. I did some did some dive in here. This is who he's got. This got left on the on the schedule. The nats the cards the cubs the diamondbacks the astros the marlins padres the pirates the reds owner the rockies that i've read homer's he has homers jared verse her body left on the schedule he has homers verse era body body and he's slugging dander thousand on the road over twelve hundred at home so it's not about where and to your point he's got. I wanna say two homers hours in cincy great american ballpark. He's got eight versus the cardinals and then one thing against buck and everybody else three against pittsburgh so he's gonna he's more than capable of getting it done and if you remember the conversation we had with him in spring training he talked about kind of liking the notion of being a potential forty forty forty guy like that being a feather in his cap so it's something i think yellow he's probably thinking about. Is he going to sacrifice the season to try to get that done. No if those opportunities the present themselves yes gimme gimme gimme third <hes> but it would be fucking nuts. It happens currently christian yelich as of right now is on pace to hit fifty three home runs and steal thirty one basis <hes> that is current pace and is unbelievable pretty good. The most stolen bases in a fifty home run season is twenty four so <hes> not even particularly close next one up <hes> this is kind of in the same vein in terms of middle of the order bat or at least in profile file also swiping bags ronald a kuna is <hes>. He's got thirty three homers and twenty eight stolen bases. He has a real shot at forty forty forty this year. <hes> where would you put the likelihood of him hitting forty forty unlikely. I'd say it's unlikely that he ends up doing it. I do think that he'll end up with the forty homers. I think he'll actually blow past that but i don't think that he ends up swiping typing forty bags..

"Mets officials believe it's likely jeff mcneil will need to be placed on the injured list due to the injured left hamstring but they're waiting for confirmation information this afternoon. Ruben takada is the likely call up per john hayman and that was a jon morosi tweet so jeff mcneil will starting nine batting that fucking if he if he gets fucked for the batting title because this injury which will probably end up being the case that sucks because not is the rightful owner of that batting title he earned it sounds like it is he the rightful owner of that title talking about just overall in general or for rookies. Maybe you're but overall. Is that what you're thinking. He's overall batting title <hes>. There's some some young guys saying there's some young guys that could be competing for that spot like talking about anybody with the pittsburgh pittsburgh pirates like how kendrick okay all right batting title where christian yelich one point ahead of jeff mcneil this current juncture brian reynolds of the pittsburgh pirates hitting three thirty eight <music>. I'll say this dallas brayden just randomly adopting the pittsburgh pirates in the past year as one of my favorite starry nine storylines nowhere for no reason like it's not even like there was is hype surrounding them and it's like he got on the bandwagon. While well again was good. He was just like dab. I'm gonna get in while there's no reason to and just ride this thing until the wheels else fall off which was promptly talked about hopping on the wrong pirate ship bucket jay from the top rope rope faulk volpi you. It's it's it's it's simply because of the love i share for the renegades of the rotunda out there and let feel those guys welcome me into the tribe. I've got my eye on a couple of youngsters in the pirates system as well so let's get someone has to j. Wait see let's talk here yes so he's in full credit. This was an article on m._l._b. Dot com that i thought was a <unk> a good idea and we've been checking in on some of this stuff throughout the season. <hes> david adler was the writer <hes> feel free to check it out so milestones that are in in play based on current projections christian yelich. He's on track to become the first fifty homerun thirty stolen base player in in n._f._l. History with his return on tuesday. He's still on a fifty three homers thirty one steal pace a hey. How insane would it be for for fifty thirty guy to exist in major league baseball and secondly. Do you think he's going to get there. <hes> wanted especially especially in a day yeah especially in a day where the offense is where we're just not sacrificing ninety feet like gambling rambling with nine thousand feet is something people just do not do and when you're seeing an m._v._p. Caliber player not only responsible for producing in that offensive arena but doing it at the clip he's doing it. I talk all the time about certain guys being in run-scoring position just by virtue of having a baton their hand christian yelich just one of those guys already. I you know all the fifty homer pace but now you put him on first base ace because you didn't want to pitch to them it could very well be a fucking double and that's a big deal when he talked about a guy in the middle of the lineup that you know tim clogs on the base path not yelling. It'd be nuts..

"Both of you have how 'bout i'll give you fifteen seconds to make the decision if he wants interview one it. Let's get it if not keep it moving. Take your ass too. I you address back on the rubber and let's keep it moving or if you'd actually like to take a little dance well. Let's let's go ahead and do that. Let's let the funder role caleb <unk> rodeo a yo one hundred percent agree with that we me and a couple of guys actually talked about about that on the team this year just like adept in the hockey rule just letting letting us go yeah just like one one one-on-one like don't have everybody like russian there and it'd be like a big brawl but let me just let one go. I the crazy if they did that because it's also also like in hockey they're on skates guys eventually just tackle each other to the ground like they can slip and fall their helmets on baseball. That's just a street fight like you could just see so. I get cold cocked and their arms. Go stiff and that's it. That's that's that's a decision. You gotta make a decision especially baseball baseball players like all these guys have canons so you can imagine like if you're throwing ninety eight same thing with a fist ninety mile an hour fist to the face and you're you're on the d._l. The rest of the year unless i've got pine tar on my knuckles like about the i don't know about the you know the i don't know about the spin rate on the old knuckle sando yeah but <hes> it's going to be coming in hot no doubt so yeah you're absolutely right you said so when stiff and just melt them right in front of thirty five thousand i bet they reevaluate valuate whether or not they wanted to park the next time that's true put and if we're being totally honest as a guy who had spent time in the bullpen killed. I don't know he feel uh-huh fluck man. I don't want to run my ass. All the way out there that was the worst in two thousand seventeen with the detroit and yankee. Oh yeah interest cleared twice and i was in the bullpen and that was the longest fucking run and remember that the ham getting out there that was what that was like mickey and gary sanchez going at it and mickey and roman minute yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah spended to thank you yeah. I mean by that point. You're probably just like wind did get into home plate. Brute by the time is a reliever then by the time you get to home plate. Everything's already sorted out. Yeah i mean but by the time you get there. It's over. It's done with that is one of the stupidest things about baseball is the bullpens. Gotta get involved. When's the last time you've seen a reliever leave. It's different when you're in the game like a- kevin gregg versus david ortiz type fight that it's different when you're in the game and then you get involved in the fight but when you're in the bullpen. How many times have you seen a reliever exit. The bullpen joined the scrum and then get into a fight. I think the bowl tension just meeting centerfield and go at it. Yeah yeah just fight someone. That's we always say we always jokingly kind of have these conversations like when the when the texas rangers were just in town and there was some john going on between the oakland a.'s and the rangers and we kind of jokingly as announcers like took off our headsets sets and we're looking at the guys across windows like bucket c. j. nakao fucking what this guy behind the freight.

"We stream for over four hours. The original plan was we were going to stream for from just seven to ten the red sox game when it's extra innings <hes> we were going to go down with that. Ship regardless of the one of the questions was at full health. Would you rather rather have the nationals top three starters or would you rather have the astros top three starters. I thought it was a no brainer. At first glance. I still gave it a little bit. More thought. I think once you consider the whole aspect of at full health max scherzer stephen strasburg patrick corbin versus justin burl lander garrett cole and zach cranky. It's an interesting conversation but i still. I still think that i lean towards the astros. I'm curious to see where you guys. Fall on that spectrum rolling with stroz totally agree is is it like is it even it's it's yeah. It's a thought but it's a two three thing for me because i've lander insurance or very similarly maybe slight edged assures her at full health but gareth cranky are well beyond strasbourg and patrick corbin for me yeah yeah. I don't know ah ha i'd have to look at but even if you look at the numbers you know you're talking about full health which i don't think we've ever really seen realistically like okay. Corbin orbin could be a one in some other places in strasbourg could be a one in some other places but those three for houston they were ones and in other places and are now ones in just a group of fucking ones and twos is what it feels like while well scherzer's coming back shire's coming back and they need that because the wildcard is it's turned into quite the cluster fuck. Which are we love which we i love. You know what else we love..

"We're trying to represent every single team so that you know last weekend. Last friday dallas and i went to baltimore we interview john means. We interviewed trae manzini. So if you're a fan of a team that might not be we talked about this time of year because of where you are in the standings we're going to do our best to represent you at least in the interview part of our of our low program here. I got a question sure streaming nickname not for me but he might general. I don't know i don't i don't think i've ever can i go with the can we workshop. The manch is the man shies stray. The man is man seaney. Yeah i liked that because in you'll find in this interview because you know it was important to you to stay here even after the trade deadline why and he answers that question so that's right. I don't know when we're gonna. Maybe we'll drop not that one next week tune for that man. Jr is interview. I know this is about caleb. Smith baseball reference lists training in sienese nickname as boomer boomer which i'd never right we talked to we talked to him about that. We have i feel like that's baseball reference really they throw if you've been called a name any one time they throw it on yeah. It's it's now. The man shies unofficially yeah and and boomer is i mean a bunch of athletes have that nickname so we're when you're going to give trae monsignor nicknamed that he can at least call his own love the manches love that love that a lot <hes> well then charlie manual so charlie manual. He's about seventy five years old. Does it matter jared. I i agree i agree so charlie manual has been hired as the new phillies hitting coach so little backstory here when when this news came across the dash <hes> we were there are some people out at barstool sports. There were like charlie manual won the hell is the last time you i heard that name forty story actually at the all star game in cleveland. We're having breakfast with bieber bieber shout to shane bieber. He's having one of the quietest best seasons seasons in the american league right now yeah so we were talking to beeps one morning in cleveland during the all star break and <hes> we. We decided to do it at a little breakfast diner place. We're interviewing him and i'm like mid sentence in walks charlie manual you lean over to dallas fucking charlie manual scenario far table from us yeah. I think it is charlie. Manual manual was out the all star game. He has been among us. This is a man who has attained legendary status in philadelphia. I don't know if you tuned into the phillies game last night but they were chanting for him. They were chanting for him. I believe the chance were we want on charlie. <hes> the gabe kappler honeymoon appears to be over. I think it was the first week that he was there then. He had a little bit of a rebound recovery covering period but that's almost that's like you know not an extreme example the kind of comparable in the bobby valentine year if you were to hire terry francona hitting coach you like we're going to take one of our most popular managers of all time. We're gonna put them in a lesser role and then we're going to put this guy and as manager who's definitely not more capable than you like. What's scary about this is how it gets translated within the walls of that clubhouse. That's the that's the only i guess i shouldn't say scary quite yet. That's what is to be paid attention attention to and you might be well yeah obviously how how well is. He received not how well as he received because you just made the point that everyone needs to remember is. This man is widely. The and largely revered as a savior of sorts in villi is fucking guy yeah so you bring him in and it's to sort of even an out the wave of analytics i think that has crashed upon the phillies organization and i think this is also like a backup manager spot not like hey if you go down in this guy comes in. I think it's like okay. Why don't you guys look..

"I mean like for you think about and jared has a <hes>. He doesn't have a high opinion of babe ruth which i wanna i wanna open slapped across. The face sucks like i'm just saying like babe. Ruth never saw fastball. The ball like there was faster than your average high school fastball today. If he played today he would probably get designated for a simon ten days. Would you say that most people in would get deified. Yes <music>. I'll like if babe ruth was the golden standard from back then like they all had second jobs. They were all like jer bagging groceries and it's like sorry sorry sorry boss. I gotta go play for the fucking yankees. I'll be right back caleb wealth right okay. I haven't known caleb long. You might want to tone it down because he's looking like he just wants to fire a bucket back. Dot you right now. It's not sure if i mean you can ill chairman you babe ruth played today that he'd be he'd be a serviceable major league baseball player <hes> maybe if he like had all the things that we had and he was able to use less. I'm sent you but even if his his work ethic suck to. It's not even like that's what everyone says like. Oh if you had like modern training methods. It's like he wouldn't use them. He was a fat lazy. Fuck you don't. We don't know that the the only thing that was offered to him like let's let's say okay perfect example. The yankees are having core issues right now right luke voight core labour corps well. Let's think about it back. Then george herman probably had some asshole standing up top of him with his feet like running and doing those like we're it. They clearly haven't evolved much since then so. I don't know that george herman would be had. He's taking advantage of everything. That's offered to him corrobos. That's that's really the bottom or do you. What do you think babe ruth. Slash line looks like in twenty nineteen. If you took him from his era yes yes just block them right in like no like if you took babe ruth picked them up from from nineteen twenty one drop them in twenty nineteen and just just said all right go up to the box in search got you still using a forty ounce. Come on striking out on three pitches. It's if you go into a season like he might not get hit. I mean come on. I i gotta hit him enough credit if if you think if he's looking at eighty six eighty seven miles an hour and then he's got everyone everyone. The bullpens got ninety ninety five ninety. I six now. He's he's stopped every time he's out there hunting heater. You know you'd probably throw throw mccur throat. Throwing this thing called a curve ball because you've never seen one before spit on it. He styles caleb smith miami marlins. Thank you so much for coming up with dallas alice in an myself as on one today best of luck to you the rest of the way thanks guys. Thanks for having me. Thanks caleb smith for swinging by barstool h. Q. <hes> again. We have a shit ton one of interviews that are still left in the tank. We've got we've got a lot of and i think we we just straight up forgot that we did interviews at the all star star game like we. We have so many interviews that we did that. Just never saw the light day from the all star game like saroka do we have. We ruined rocca. You don't think so so saroka still in the tank that's a._c. Ild yeah we we did a bunch at the all star game. That sounds like mike sirocco next next tuesday. Ooh roka's a fucking stroke is a good one. He's he's a good kid. He's the guy he's a kid. I mean <hes>. I don't know a future future cy young or something. I want to throw out there because it's still really early but i'm i'm thinking about fucking all do here to fuck it cy young. Oh ooh i love that. I just love the kids mentality and his dad i mean i think it's pretty clear..

"And he is not provided that that has got to change the grab gives you base it of his own and Mets style win the first two games of this series. Now, if you've looked at the weather forecast for the state area for Sunday. Let's just say it's going to be very very difficult for the Mets to try to squeeze in this game in which Caleb Smith will be taken on the synagogue. But man, when you got Wheeler, and you've got the gram, and you got synagogue on the mound against this mall and steam that is a team shit sweep that is a team you should go out and dominate. They've won the first two games of the series. If they play on Sunday. I hope and pray Noah is going to do the exact same thing. And if the Mets do sweep the series. No parades. Denna canyon here us, no bows from Brody van wagon, and Jeff wilpon. The timing was rather apropos you tied to meeting. Right. When the Marlins coming at that. That's great. We mentioned the sixteen th stretch mention how important it was for the Mets play while they sixteen game stretch considering how soft schedule it is. You know, you gotta play while in this stretch games. So far, so good. Now, we'll see if they drop the hammer series on Sunday. Eight seven seven thirty seven sixty six sixty six let's sit out to Long Island J next. He's not a foul J, Barry how you doing today. Jay without power. He got man, just go crazy, man..

"All cubs at Braves brace pitchers. Not a good weekend. But they didn't have their best pitchers out there. And then the very late night game. Drew Pomeranz of San Francisco at the dodgers. And holy Orioles. I'm watching aureus. Now, the giants offense is dreadful one of the worse than baseball. But aureus is available in your league. Adam now before he pitches tonight. You don't probably I would activate. I don't know who the second start of the week is against, but that's. Cores? Now that I'm not the activating him. But I'm stashing for sure because he could be really good. And we know that ESPN plus has the Mets and the Marlins Caleb Smith pitching for the Marlins against Steven Metz. You could argue Caleb Smith not only tonight, but long-term can make that argument. Yeah. You definitely could matter of fact, I would start him for that one. I like the to start matchups for those in the weekly leagues. I think he's also an underrated option in the points leagues because he gets more ks than people think that he does. So definitely him. I liked the Matt straw matchup against Zona home game there based on what he did during spring training you when I watched him quite a bit. I like the upside there are some very interesting arms here who are absolutely worth watching and another one for me that I'm not starting. But watching his Domingo's, Vermont the Yankees. Watch out for hours Ona's lineup Christian Walker. I've been telling everybody powers real he should be playing a left and seven day lamb. Now. We're hearing land might some third base to get walkers bat into the lineup MARTINI stole a base. That's interesting. And I want to see what Meera remember Kelly. Does. It was well and the Padres outfield. I mean hundred run froze the gotta drop right and just not not lying regularly moving onto to today's. Plus Chris sale in a second outing at Oakland against Mike. Fires I expect sale. Be better in this one. Don't you? I I do and without question. You're starting in for this game. I don't care what how he looked. How Veloce wasn't game on your starting in period? Please don't eight one outing. I mean, yes, it was great. The Jordan Zimmerman did well now he's he's stadium on Tuesday. You're crazy. Direct live line we go. Dr Mark Caleb Smith joins us. He's director of center for political studies at cedar Bill university. And Dr we know that the federal workers are back to work hundreds of thousands of workers are ready to go. And I'm probably intimating getting that back pay as well. But when you look at it from a macro level does it seem the president blinked on this one. Yeah. I think he really did. I mean, when I think once he figured out the wall funding wasn't going to happen that even compromises was trying to float out. There weren't getting any traction that he just basically said, well, I'll take whatever. And then we'll we'll open up the government. And we'll keep negotiating the I think he definitely blinked. It doesn't mean he won't. She was and long-term, I suppose, but if you look at it in the short term, it looks like he caved in and when you think of the art of the deal, and you know, all the big talker. That's kind of a surprise for most people. I it is. I think it is for most people. Yeah. One of the things that Donald Trump sold himself as a candidate was this expertise negoti. Chichan, you know, that he's cut hundreds of deals, and they'll be the best deal maker in the history of the White House. But I think it's some point. He's still struggling to get hold of all of political reality business negotiations. Don't work like political negotiations are way more factors involved in a political negotiation. And I think that showed somewhat this past couple of weeks. Yeah. And when you look at that to moving forward, he gives it about a fifty fifty or actually less than a fifty fifty chance that he's gonna see a deal that he really wants to accept. Yeah. I think that's right. I think that's been gracious. Frankly, I think it'd pro if I were putting odds on see it's probably less than a third of a chance that he'll get something resembling wall funding, all the Democrats now have the most of the leverage he's gone on record and saying this is what he's going to stake as presidency on. They have no incentive to give him something. Like this is a big win for twenty twenty. And so I think he's in a really difficult spot. Once he can somehow convince rank and file Democrats, and I'm not talking about the. Officeholders I'm talking about voters out in the mid west other places that this wall so important they need to contact their own representatives and persuade them to change their mind. Dr Mark Caleb Smith, our guest director for the center for political study at cedar Ville university. Dr the thing that gets me about all this right now, you know, you talk about those Democrats or Republicans out in the midwest. And whatever in in wall funding, I'm frustrated because I feel like I only know I just a handful of people in DC, I feel like President Trump Nancy Pelosi Chuck Schumer, maybe a little bit of Lindsey Graham, and a sprinkling of a few others whose names on immediately occurred to me are the ones pulling all the strings. I mean, we have five hundred thirty five people in congress. Why aren't we hearing some of those other names? That's a great question. I think the the best answer is it's easier for them to defer to leadership because then if things go wrong, they can blame leadership and then things go, right? They can say, well, I ended up casting a vote for this when it mattered. And so I can take credit for this also. And so it's in their interest, actually. Quiet until things sort of shake out, and they can take their positions they need to. I think it's a little bit gutless frankly, and I have a lottery respect for those members of congress who do occasionally a break from the pack and say, here's what I saying contrary to pressure their own leadership, but they're making a political calculation right now. And unfortunately, I think they're probably making the right calculation. It's interesting to you know, when you look historically at some of the rhetoric, I mean, you know, there's there's video of President Clinton President Obama even Chuck Schumer talking about the need for tight border security. Why doesn't that stuff? Get more play. Why why don't people pull that out and go? Hey, you guys Rover here, you know, three four five years ago. Now, you're a hundred and eighty degrees away from it. What Gibbs now let me let me get this straight. Joel you're expecting to go into the political world and find something resembling consistency. Is that right? Well. I'm just asking. Why does no one seemingly called him on it other than a few internet? Social media means I'm with you. I Don, I think you're right. I agree that we should hold their feet to the fire. So I think we should hold those statements up and say, you tell me what's different now you, and I both know what's different isn't the issue. What's different is the political climate? They're going to take their positions based on a shifting political climate. They're not going to be consistent less. They have to be consistent unless you run across the rear sort of politician. It's only gonna say, you know, what this is what I think if the climate changes the climate change is that it goes. I just don't understand. Reality. I get that part of it. But I don't understand how you know national sovereignty border security is something that can politically change. I mean, it seems like that's healthy for your country to protect your borders. Whether the political climate is ABC or x y z. Well, I think the unfortunate reality right now is neither party really wants to settle this issue because it's better for them to use it as a campaign issue against the other party than it is to actually solve it. And so if the Democrats can grow their Hispanic base by not solving this problem and having a little bit more illegal immigration take place, if the Republicans can use this to sort of demonize, Democrats is being open border enthusiasts and then please their pro business interests who liked cheap labor. Let's be honest about it. Then I think it's a win win for both sides as much as I don't like it. I think in their minds it's best to just kick this canned down the road and keep fighting about it politically. I guess the swamp is foreign from drained. I I agree with that. Oh question. Wow. Okay. Well, you put it in perspective forest. Doctor. We always appreciate the time much. That's Dr Mark Caleb Smith. He's director Senator political studies at cedar Ville university..
