"That's so my face come do this. That's that's still my favorite of his movies. I did not like three billboards at all. Like at all i. His brother What's his brother's name. Because his brother's a filmmaker too. And i've liked his movies a lot more than that. Such a shame that. I can't remember his name. I like his movies a lot more. Did that movie was a cold war on everyone with a alexander skarsgard and I remember i remember the ania. Yeah yeah and the. I didn't realize that he had a brother. That was a filming. Yeah that's that's that's that. Yeah he also did the guard. Don cheadle. I remember one more camera. But i actually like his movies a lot like i really have. You seen the war on everyone. I feel like i did when it first came out but i don't remember it that much. It's so good it's it's it's it's a movie where both of the cops are crooked cops and ali michael mcdonagh. That's him a but it like what's funny. Is that the james. He's the bill in and his little henchman is is caleb landry jones and kayla is the guy in three billboards who sell rival boards. But he got that gig because he was in war on everyone shore and marmaduke. I like this kid. Yeah but but war on everyone. If you guys haven't seen it it's like a. It's like observing report in lethal weapon. Had a baby. The you know what i mean and and i mean only the good parts of both of those movies like issue more and everyone's really cool all right. That's going on the watch list to some some good good recommendations on this episode. Yeah they say great minds. Think alike and i think joe carnahan is definitely high up on the great minds so absolutely well..

"Back from vacation. And richard lawson also here with me also back from radiation. Yeah i'm back in united states like they couldn't keep me away and then joining us also once again. We have hillary abuses. I hillary i. I've been here. Some of us were gone. Hillary was keeping things running in our absence. Somebody's got to layabouts just gallivanting off to his in france. Richard was sweating in a tuxedo. Part of his time in france at least so he put in the work the sweat equity as you will we also say. Thank you to joanna who is out for a few weeks. She'll be back And chris murphy. And david canfield for taking over last week on the lovely episode. I had a blast listening to. It is very fun to listen to your own. Podcast when your own stupid voices not on it. So thank you guys for handling it while we were gone. But now that richard back and getting our heads around the world We aren't talking about kennedy more. But we have more festivals talk about with the venison. Your film festival lineups in toronto festival. Lineups all taking shape And there's a whole bunch of new movies out All with varying degrees of awards possibilities but all fun to talk about spending. Get into a bunch of them and then in the second half of the episode. You'll here once again. From david canfield who interviewed rosie perez about her role in the flight attendant. Which i am so excited to listen to Well i said we were gonna talk about kennedy more. But richard there. Anything left from. Can you wanted to get into that. You didn't share our Kind of bleary early morning. French dispatches the the palm that has been handed out the awards guy anything left from candidate into well one piece of advice. Should anyone be considering going to can in the future if on your last full day where you know if you even if you have a little work to do but you have one movie. That's on your schedule. Don't skip it because that movie might win. Best actor it can which is what happens with it. Just incurs film that caleb landry jones one. I was doing really want to see a movie about mass shooter as my last film it can. I said i did. And then i regretted it so be careful about that so i still have to check that out but i think when we talked last katie i was about to see red rocket. The sean. Baker movie with simon rex. And i said i would file a dispatch if i if i loved the movie. I didn't end up doing that. I mean i reviewed the film. But i didn't jump on the podcast to declare my affection for the film for simon. Rex is incredible performance. Which i thought was kind of a shoe in for best actor. The film didn't win any awards so it just seemed it just didn't really hit for. Does the jury led by spike lee But will be definitely big conversation movie. That is going to play for film festivals. And i talked to simon rex. It can i. It was like so. What's like the future he was like this. I'm basically coming to like events like this for the next six months. Oh god six months if he's he's doing it for almost a year until the oscars that's the recipe. He doesn't see coming in yeah. Red rocket is an eight twenty four. Release right it's eight twenty four. Yeah okay yeah and it'll be out this fall at some point and you know it'll be curious. I'll be curious to see where awards bodies five spirit awards. It's like a shooting. That's a lock but for other things. I wonder because it's not as you know. There's not a cute kid at the center. Like there was for florida project which got worse. Traction but baker's profile is on the rise in this movie like has this big sort of. I guess you could say comeback performance similar to mickey rourke and the wrestler except simon. Rex didn't have the earlier career that may work did But has that sort of narrative of a narrow dwell made good that i mean even though he's not playing a good character in the film That i think she'll give a lot of attention will be curious to see how far it can can ride the rocket now. At least they don't have to worry about trying to win over. The hollywood foreign press association this year yes exactly just some other splinter group that will inevitably pop up So record has not shown up in any of the festival. Lineups that we've been seeing coming fast and furious but it does seem safe to assume like you said richard that it will show up somewhere at some point at the initial tiff. Lineup is out which joanna and chris and david talked about last week And then the venice film festival full lineup has come out Including a bunch of big titles. That were rumored. Maybe some that weren't and then also. The new film festival has announced that Joel coen's macbeth. Movie with branches. Norman denzel washington will be in it as well as jane campion's power the dog which is awesome part of There's a lot of titles to get into unlikely. Sure we've got this interesting. Mix of huge movies and small ones. Like dune is going to be playing venice as well as the last duel. One of the two ridley scott movies. That are coming out. This is the one with matt damon. Ben affleck. I don't think any of us will be at vanessa. Maybe we should temporary excitement and just be jealous. Everybody but what's grabbed yells attention all of this. This flurry of announcements. I mean certainly. Initially the first thing from venice the six from me. Sorry to cut you off richard. But and also i think the most vanity fair e movie is probably a popular and spencer. The princess diana bio-pic starring kristen stewart. Yeah i mean. Even the still images. Chris stewart have. Yeah yeah frankly. He didn't even have to make the movie. He could've distressed her up. And we would all be like amazing. Give awards yup or at least could have been vanity faira photo-spreads that i would have been proud of. And it's good that it's coming at venice. Because it's gonna kick off the fall. The autumn of diana rather than kind of be playing catch up to the next season of the crown. The return of the diana musical on broadway. That netflix is gonna film put on the service. Like you know the film stage version. So like there's going to be a lot of diana content and so spencer getting out there kind of ahead of the pack away. Even though we've already seen the mcchord season around. I think it will help that movie. Hopefully and hopefully lorraine can do for diana what he did for for. Jackie yeah do we know what. Part of diana's life this is focusing on like just based on christmas herald loan..

"It 4 by 6 or what are the fuk? It was so Dunkirk actually them wrong. So I Max is traditionally kind of like in that 14 by naira nine ratio. Is it is it is square. Like if you go to if you like when when the when the IMAX is done here in Sydney off guard. So what it will be square sprained right with Justice League. That's what they're doing with Justice League because technically the picture is taller. It's not necessarily wider wage and it's like that's kind of like what they're going for. Like, I don't know whether they are post was shot in that way, but tenant was definitely shopping. That way I could be with the IMAX. But yeah for sure. Anyways what I will suck. About it is you know me. I'm usually not a huge fan of war movies, but I think I'm starting to be converted cuz you know how much I fucking love 1917. Sorry, I should not since I know it's a Dunkirk doesn't matter doesn't matter up. The point is I fucking love The Outpost I thought good right? I thought the way they shot the action scenes but some of the best like shootouts found in a campaign. Did you like did you notice what I like what I said in my review. I'm like there is like probably like half an hour of just Unstoppable like Joe sound of the bullets whizzing by like that doesn't start for a whole half-hour nominal. I got that final war sort of saying It's incredible. It may be one of the best war scenes. I have sinned. It's some terms of like like no one cared of this movie too. Yeah, it's weird, right? Yeah, like I I couldn't tell you why man but it was so good. The the action was so good. You feel like you're in the shit. They use like these long takes that really like did it justice home at one point. I remember thinking is like, I wish Star Wars War scenes were like this. Yeah, like I wish it was like that. It's it's that that's that's so good. And I also liked how all the characters were given. It's just enough to make them really horrible like like memorable three-dimensional enough like you see them like they spent way too much time with every character but they give you just enough Faith give you just a bunch of the Insight. So when they die it matters, yeah. My favorite was Caleb Landry Jones who's the guy that at the start he brings them m o m Yeah, he's the guy wearing the lab machine gun hammer, and he's kind of like in like what is in like shorts? Yeah, I expect to him him to be such a big part of the film. But yeah, but that's cool what it was. Yeah, it's not how you'd expect to be like a main character. Most of the characters are kind of off to the side sometimes but even more interesting, I don't know if I like Eastwood, I think he was turning on like a little bit Home Source like, you know, like in the face it feels like he was still in Fast & Furious like sometimes some of his lines were just a bit like little wink-wink-nudge-nudge kind of thing, but I don't know like maybe ther was a little bit of like Hollywood next to it. But I think that's what helped me enjoy it to be honest. Like, you know me. I kind of like that very night sometimes yeah wage comes to like at least a blockbuster shit. I can I like it now. I feel like if they did any more of it, it would have been too much cuz you gotta treat this shit with some seriousness to it off. It was a real thing, but I don't know. It was a I had a lot of fun with it. I think at the end of the day. It's it's cool. Well, they took this real story and kind of made it like popcorn friendly. Makes sense. Yeah. I still like it was still heavy. It's still held a lot of the values that a lot of military films hold in that they do take the The Source material not Source material, but the actual event seriously and I thought it was it was an incredibly effective. I thought so. Yeah. I know it's let's move on to some news real quick for your trailers. I was wanted to bring this up more so foul non American audience who may find this interesting cuz America's probably sick to death of quit e as I have from your experience. What do you think? What's your relationship could be. Do you know much about it only from what I've heard and read in the news. I haven't used a personally or anything like that, but I mean dead. Kind of a dumb concept to be honest. Like I just I'm not I'm not surprised that it went. What is it bankrupt or do they get sold their? No. No, they're shutting it down. They can't long. It's been around for less than six months. Yes streaming service for those who don't I will I'll give you a little bit of back story because here's my personal connection to creepy. I'm the only Australian I know who age description to it. Yeah. I I was really interested with the idea of what did you take a poll? My I took a I did I did a free 3-month trial and off and I didn't cancel it in time and they charged me for a month and then I canceled it. Oh you you contributed to the Jeffrey katzenberg Islip. For drugs? Yeah, but I I was just interested in it cuz I'd be like looking on the web Series this year for my own personal projects. And when I found out there's a streaming service that's tailored towards phones that are focused on ten minute episode. That caught my attention and I thought look this is probably going to fail really hard. But the fact that it's a thing has my interest for those who don't know. We be off a quick bite. The idea of the concept was it was a streaming service that you could only using your phone which was its biggest criticism. They went back on that pretty early and they spent literally billions of dollars game. Literally every celebrity you can think of has a show on there the latest season of what's that prank show that Ashton Kutcher used to have punk songs on that punk had a season on their way Kevin hot Ashoka die heart fucking what's the name and Kendrick Kendrick? I'm pretty sure I had a show on there. There's so many celebrities had shows on there and no one watched any of them. I'm curious what's going to happen to their shows now, but yeah this started during the coronavirus and adjourn coronavirus at twenty twenty. This is probably the shortest life span with them. Is saying for streaming service and it lasted less Long than Yahoo screen. Which denotes that is that was it was Community season 6 was exclusive to it when Community finished so did the platform. Well, yeah so quickly after that. Yeah. I'm surprised YouTube Red isn't gone yet, but you'll get the now the carpet guys and Netflix. It's like, why does this is a dumb idea? I mean like I don't like those an episode of Fatman beyond what Kevin Smith is being explained what could be is by my father and his just like so it's like ten minute long like like it's a it's an app for like ten minute long life videos. It's just like it's like we have YouTube for this we are we had this for like ten years already, but you can also like you can get Netflix on your priority can get stand on your phone. You.

"Well, let's get finish because we've got kind of you know t bones You know his thoughts on it Laura thoughts on this. I love this movie. I think it is. It's well done ended accomplishes things in unexpected ways like. It leaves you with questions and that's okay like I normally in a movie I don't like to have questions at the end like for things to be wrapped up and I want a neat story and whatever. But this doesn't bother me usually. A resolution one resolution to in right but this story starts in the middle. And it ends in the middle and you're left to sort of dryer conclusions about things and I appreciate that about it. It's really It's eye opening in a Lotta ways. And it's beautifully shot. And I, know you're talking about the main actors doing such a good job in the absolutely did but I was really impressed with all the little actors, the little characters because they really make it real right like the guy at the gas station and the lady at the hotel with the big hair and oh my God they're. They're so great. They're also great. The lady at the trailer park was great too I mean she. Had Live Kirk. Character in that was just. The mother Mother. Is June. Yeah. with a WIG. On. Landry Jones was in it as one of the two bicycle balls the one who didn't give his shirt is. Caleb Landry Jones the brother from get out. Use Austin, breaking bad and aren't. It's okay. What's your? What's your thoughts on it? So I watched it three times this week and it's just not like my tempo my. It's well done the acting screen loved the cinematographers few too many dogs in it for me. Is that what it takes you out. Three too many. Honestly it does I. I have trouble watching the first John. Wick. But the rest of movie doesn't happen if that one dog doesn't die. This just was like. Kill a few more dogs throw some love dogs in there. I don't know who that is Johnny. Ever. Movie needs more dogs. I just thought it was. I think it's a good movie, but it just doesn't blow me away the way I feel like. You guys like it so much better that I have tried this week I watched. ooh. Still not it sounds like you tried really hard. Yeah. Three times. That's obviously Gave it the old college try obviously. You're watch it three times. So I didn't like it. I watched Premiere Theus six times and you know how much You should stop doing that. What you don't like change your mind. I. Want. Oh God Watch cloverfield like twenty times and I still hate that movie. Sometimes I to know why don't like movie I want to understand I don't like something why people do and sometimes it just never. Well, I think that's the thing about cinemas that everybody's got a different way that they enjoy films a style of films they like and if it's not something in your will house, it's not going to be you're not GonNa Change Meanwhile, a movie like, Helena hardplace Helen Hunt ponies hell hell and High Water Millan Howard Chris Paul but that was I thought that was fucking brilliant. Isn't that same vein?.

"Impulses. This one carries that concede to the next level where the closeness is brought into biological proximity through colds and other viruses. So you can actually go and. Hiccup and were guests contract you one more would more accurately say that say a herpes simplex or a some kind of infection of some sort or some you know biological. Vector from a celebrity and. I guess the the protagonist is a sid marshes in employees the low Lucas. Clinic. Is the US has the very sickly and hail visage mean of one Caleb Landry Jones who was a terrific actor who would've thought would've made an incredible axl rose if anyone decides to green light a guns and roses bio pic. Anyway that's I casting a suggestion if anyone wants to take it and run with it. But now sit march is rather unscrupulous character. Who is? Sneaking out and using his own body is a kind of an incubator from this bespoke clinic and taking the the pathogens. Selling on the black market. So it's a really interesting idea and to the extent it works or doesn't is what I think has been Some of the the thrust behind some of the criticism behind this film now. I was thinking. similarly, you could throw David Cronenberg's crash in the mix of a concede that W-, this viewer was founded hard to get behind the dangling participle here but. That one. For those who haven't seen it. James Spader is falls in with a group of of the enthusiasts who. Like. To marry the I, guess because Fetish. Of automobiles carrying that to the nth degree by combining lovemaking with the dangers inherent of the high speed automobile. Racing really a great an interesting idea because obviously the pairing of the automobile and Illicit sex is one that goes back to when the teen demographic really came into being post war. He had obviously, you're make out points and the vehicles could substitute as surrogate motels for assessing really couldn't afford such things and make a point served as A. Way To get away from the prying eyes of the perennials and so the meeting like a causal, the direct. Link between the eroticism of the automobile and. And young was really A. On this case, sleigh older, I guess it would be but. Really, he kronenbourg worked at all the case no pun intended of of that kind of conceit in boy was at an interesting one and I think the third or fourth. Film I'd seen in the OVA after the a couple of years later into well into my teens and again, something that fell eminently flat with me for it's. Very very like a star can steer kind of off putting end. Sober kit that's been frequently applied to Kronenbourg films, which is clinical I mean literate literally clinical here with Brandon Cronenberg's work as the Lucas Clinic divide is your brought to life. Through cinema in not the most original way as wide has been used throughout cinema but very engaging, very very by chromatic color Palette and this clinic really comes to life in stand you have the the. The foreground and background coming into an standing in short con contrary indication when you have celebrity. Faces in the clinic that everyone wants to be one of whom is Hannah Geist geist is a German for ghost. And she's kind of aid. figure onto which. I guess different. I guess you know. How would you put on? Issues, she's the blank slate into which different. Demands and can be placed. Her Fan base says she's got a large. Large. Fan Base is a young actress in there is much speculation much like in current celebrity culture but who has had what done to them In terms of plastic surgery that say again, going back to the older Kronenbourg key Lloyd can seat from like. What is it? The film rabbit and the the grotesque lab in that one but. There's speculation about her vulva that's been. It's been it is the definite article or whether that's been specially fashioned in created for her now stinking as you is this your through Netflix's, there's a number of rather gross. Has. Surgery. Shows that have come to the forefront as Netflix is developing more what you could broadly be lumped into the documentary category if they weren't such reality TV driven drek but. A Beverly Hills plastic surgeon I believe is one of them in has these grotesque characters who talk shop about their. But rather sort of business in the interview I Guess Prospective Clients Sends you get get to. I guess go through the various The psychology behind and workout their. Work out there I mean what would you say pathologies if you WANNA call it that work out there the psychology of why they're getting what they're doing and in exchange for I think discount on some of these procedures whether it's jobs or a rhino plastics or what have you. They get. Exposed ends exploited through the wonders of Netflix in being no to I guess eighty different countries that the service operates in. So the Lucas Clinic taps into that vernacular and when March is using his. Own. Body to make extra money a bit there there's it's kind of got A. Bit of world's oldest profession of vibe to it but a other critics than I wouldn't be the first to remark upon this would have touched on the vampiric elements of this. They're all very warn white pasty characters who look like they have iron deficiencies and they're. You, know frequently injecting one another with the with various serums in that. So the it's a fair comparison to make. Now. Hannah geist has also fallen ill with another kind of disease hand. There's all these machinations about how. She could've gotten that and how she. Her how she comes to her end is a plot point that the film. Dives into as a rival company called. VOL- INTESA starts to Trying to encroach on the territory occupied by the Lucas Clinic and Cashing in on US liberty of bodily of. Bodily fluids and pathogen so again Very Interesting idea that the Brandon chronic explorers in one that thinks some you UK critic said wasn't overlay original because of the subject matter once again. I guess exploring what it means to. To. To buy into celebrity culture and due to a certain extent. I. Think some of those criticisms are warranted because again with the conceit of getting to get close to your favorite celebrity injecting. Injecting virus into your skin cells it's As celebrity culture involved. If you WANNA use that term but I would say people are becoming their their own celebrity and I think it's not as it's not as ivory.

"We're socially distanced right now. But that doesn't mean we need emotional distance from our friends and loved ones. Reach out. Touch someone not physically fight loneliness. Make that phone call be well and stay tuned to case. This is the business and I'm Kim Masters were talking to Rod Lurie, director of the outpost, and Jake Tapper, author of the book on which the movie is based. Production of the film faced many obstacles that could have shut it down. The most tragic of all came during the summer of 2018. Laurie tells the story. We're in traffic was in a Bulgarian pump watch. The World Cup when my mother called me and said My son Hunter had them. And add a cart. Well, she didn't know what she knew. He was a hospital, Michigan and the hospital told me that he had had a cardiac arrest. And the nurse who was a lot of coal. This could be just, you know, I don't want to get there because, well, he's not gonna make it but my my wife, Kira and my ex wife and hundreds mother, Gretchen. My daughter and his girlfriend. They food in Michigan. They beat me to the punch. Yesterday was Kim was a health, you know, being playing, not knowing a thing. Because there's no entrant happened and I got there. It was really profound came because you know I got there and he's all hooked up and it is hopeless and I have to make a decision too. Remove all the machines. And we're told he's got about 20 minutes left. He's unconscious and My daughter said to me, my daughter had the presence of mind to say to me, Paige She said. You know, Dad, I know that the last thing you want to do is go make a movie. But you have to go make this Louie, you know? My son was that we was a movie fanatic. And if you knew that this was this was based on Jake's book based on these guys. You know, went down the tubes because they definitely were looking for other directors, which they should have been. But it would be difficult to mount this film history. Don't just disappearing like that. But it would destroy would've destroyed Hunter. But I realized something else, literally, as he Expired from this earth. I realized he was the same age. Yes, right, Jake. A cz. These guys, They're like they're they're all in their twenties. And now these families get behind me and drink was wonderful. And you know, there's something about 100 on CNN, the family's heir, send me gifts and flowers and they're really behind me. And and I realised, then how important that movie was the movie that we get the deaths of these men correct. You know, I knew if I was making a movie about somebody was making 100 I wouldn't want have a musical score behind. I wouldn't want at the traditional stuff and you get in action films. You know, I wanted to be realigned. Yes, meaning me. I got I came. I got here. This this crew behind me. It was it was unreal. It was unreal. You could play the rocking use way overcame everything. I mean, this movie is so difficult amount. You know, we didn't have enough money. We can have enough time That location wasn't wasn't perfect would be made perfect. Made by I see I didn't have you know we don't have what we needed, but But these guys, they came together and it was just unbelievable. What happened there in Bulgaria for this? You know what I offered condolences then, and I offer them again. Now That's a heartbreaking story. Ah, it's funny in a way because of the you know the movie was had so many obstacles and yet felt destined at the same time. And just to underscore that point, I will say that when you return and started shooting, Scott Eastwood broke his ankle if you broke his ankle while you were in the U. S rod or whether you do return, and then he broke his ankle, but his ankle broke No, I returned, and Jonathan younger, the producer of the film he comes in, he says. We just got word. Guess what? That's cotton's. Would his ankle and it's gonna be like months before he's fixed and The city was fruit, and there was real top that the movie had to shut down, But but again, Kim, it was like no way. There's just no way that's where he's going to shut down. And I got off the phone with with Scott. And he said, I'm gonna make it. I promise you, I'm gonna make it like you really wanted to do this film. And so I had to get on the phone the insurance company and do a dance with him. Fred Astaire like how I'm gonna reschedule the entire movie. We're gonna begin with shots of Scott's character sitting, and then I'm going to shoot the scenes with him standing. "The new movie the outpost. It was the most downloaded film of the weekend, and it's an immersive experience. It's about an outpost in Afghanistan at the base of this valley. If you're just joining us, it was sort of a bizarre placement of this base. But what happened was there was a Taliban insurgency of massive proportion and the director of the film Rob Gloria's is talking with us. This was a true incident. It was chronicled in a book by Jake Tapper, and then you brought it to the screen. Yeah. Jake Tapper released that best selling book in 2012. It was great. You know, when I When I first time out to do it, I called Jake up and, you know, he just wants to talk movies. So I want to do is talk about politics. So we sort of have to divvy it up every time that way. Have a conversation just because you mentioned politics I want tojust also know this is not a political film at all. I mean, really like there's no, no, it's not Pro War antiwar, pro GOP Anti GOP Pro Democrats. Cetera. There's none of that. No, it's about it's about. We really focus on the eight dudes of lost our lives and the two living member to living survivors. By definition, They're living survivors who received the Medal of Honor. One is Ty Carter, played by Caleb Landry, Jones and the other Is Scott Eastwood on DH. He plays staff Sergeant Clint Roma Shay and And that's really worried for what it really is A chronicle of what happened in the battle and sort of the events that led up to it. I would tell you more than anything else. And you know you've got Orlando Bloom and it also it's funny that one should you know, Should you give everybody best haircut and the you know basic Army. Whatever that, you know, Whatever you call it, you lose track. I guess I'm trying to say of any celebrity in it all. It's all very immersive. How did you know that was clearly a desire on your part, too? You know these battle sequences and just the feeling over time is that we're actually there at the outpost. Well, you know, the one of the things that I did mark is that I shot most of most of the film every scene in one long tape in the battle sequences, things on these long, I think really fluid takes And so you know, there's you don't think you're in a movie. I don't think you don't see cutaways. You don't see You know Scotty's would shooting his weapon and then cut a bad guy going down. It's you know, it's all in the long fluid. Um, uh, shots and as a result, I think that you're you're deeply embedded in every scene. At least that's what we were. That's what we're going for. Well, All the reviews were saying the exact same thing isn't very well reviewed film. But I have to ask you, though, from a filmmaker's pinpoint as you're doing that all in one continuous shot. You have all of these things got here got bullets everywhere and you got stuff blowing up and you've got, you know, guys running this way and other people running that way and people climbing over, you know, I mean, there's a lot to choreographing end in one of those things doesn't happen. You gotta retake it again. Oh, so like, you know, that's exactly right. So we've got special effects. I mean, you already laid it all out on the special effects the actress to get it right. And I remember there was this one really, really magnificent Take That we did, and kid Landry Jones, who zeal just hauling ass hundreds of yards, and we're following in the hallway with the, uh you know this one camera and the camera operators exhausted when it's all done, but everyone we nailed it and everybody's cheering and high fiving and tight. The actual Medal of Honor winner is there and he's hugging and crying, and you got it exactly right and then our military experts Guy named Jericho Dem and comes up and says, No, no, no, no, no, You've got it all wrong. No, no, It's a mess back guy that I was holding his weapon like that doesn't look like one explosion. Supposed to look like I said them. Come on, man. It's a movie was okay. The movie is called the Outpost. Rod Lurie is the director. It's got Orlando Bloom's got Eastwood mentioned Caleb Lander Jones as well, but it really transcends any kind of one performance. Caleb Landry come around like I know you WanNa have sex with me. He owns like this mother. Fucking bitches. What's going on? Yeah Yeah. That's a great frigging Zine. I love it. Yeah and the way. She eats her little dry fruit loops with a sip of skim milk. Right like how much more can colors white together? What did you say? Well you talk about? She keeps the colors several and the white separate jazz a mix them together. I`Ma races to write each one. And it's very it's very weird it's Bedford did almost it's funny. It was my sleepy narrow. Tonics sleepytime naptime movie today. I woke up at that part and I was glad she eaten orioles. 'cause I've seen people eat oreos with that intricacies that's you know I was. I don't WanNA psychopaths barely talk religion. Separate the cookies. The white black the white the white out because whites bad and you save the black for the end because it tastes the best. Well that's not GonNa make the one of the scenes in this movie that that made me. Just go wow was the BINGO cards amazing so messed me up it it it. I don't say that there's too many things in this film other than maybe the the the hypnosis seems that are like crazy like cool but the way they start in on the shot of him up close doesn't give you too much detail and he's just signaling numbers and then slowly we pull back and we start to see the Bingo cards and their numbers and like it's a a code of a bidding That's taking place on the Karch and is this really unique That was the amount of money that they were bidding diversions and then the reactions. I thought it was just a super coal. Seem to basically flashback slavery in the days of Aweso at the same time. Good good for Jordan. Peele not to be able to do a scene. It's silence Oh and make that tents chilling and yeah it goes right to your bone and you just got. Oh my God. They are literally saw off. A body is really up until then. You're still not sure what's going to happen in this movie. Like for my part. I thought I was completely convinced. All right they're they're brainwashing black people to make them their servants. This is going to be about. Oh is the WANNA make servants? And it wasn't until the auction. I'M GONNA say they're going to make them. Yes excellent excellent of Modern Day servitude and I thought it was brilliant of Jordan to go even further with the Third Act. Reveal that no we are actually going to put ourselves in your body's because we like your bodies and we are commodifying black bodies which is what happens in entertainment all the time right now. White people making money off black people's bodies whether it's athletes or musicians and that sort of thing that additives extra layer to it. That totally wasn't expecting and I was like okay. Weird brain switching them like no. That's brilliant like that. That says so much bounce off that when I was saying earlier in the movie when we're hearing that Sokaia Liza Kuala Hanger Song and the trees where you go through this maybe food who maybe it's mysticism. No it science right white man science and what a great twist where I mean that. Little video that It's funny the actor used to be on sandwich. Or Yes you signs. All the he worked at the Yankee Stadium with George When he's explaining it on your like this is all science. It's dark video. Gets even more knife lost? He's all about an episode fucked that last episode. When you fucked the last twenty minutes of Laws Dame Lindelof if you're listening we're drinking right anyway. I thought that was amazing to turn it into something scientific. You just go like Holy Shit. There's a lot of curves that are thrown in this movie and The first time experience is probably the most fun cell phone Yeah I The the re watches are rewarding like we talked about for hereditary. I actually appreciated more. You'll watch it at some point. It's hereditary the second time watching it. I Went Holy Shit. This is good. This is really just a good movie and it wasn't the emotional response. I had the first time where I was like. I'm trying to tie. I was genuinely like this is fucking really well done and He did some are. We haven't said some. Are this episode. Which I just watched the three hour director's cut. I bought it but I haven't watched a lot of extra stuff in the beginning. The ending is still the same. So it's not Oh and let's talk about the ending the original ending up where that cop car that pulls up at the anche Kalemie. It's a cop and motherfucker goes to jail well and he kills her. He strangles her and she died. Which is weird because this art saw today I woke up in the end and My sleepy naptime movie. Come on Gimme back at the end. And he's trying to strangle her and he just can't do it. Might be smile is like forcing her throat. More into like he's just killed. Caleb Landry with a botchy ball. He's but he didn't actually kill him. Stop them right right. Yeah he had mostly killed then he takes the Antlers and kills Bradley kills the Deer Killing Man. I mean that is a trophy That's a trophy hear horn. That's I've maybe that's one of the most interesting death since sleep. Walkers I saw a guy gets stabbed with a CORNCOB Stephen King movie people. Yeah exactly what's programs that I've worked with Jack? Serve that co deserve better than I deserve better than it was but the deer seen in this. Last time I saw a really effective dear scene was could it be ring to? I never ring to electric balloon. The day he came back. I think it was probably ring to had a dear scene where the deer came through the window and was right. Yeah that's my ultimate tron voice and fucked me up that the funny thing is that you only refer ring. Besides it was an unnecessary movie So good I love the I ring. I want Samarra. It is all out of my well. I don't have a well. I think it is a metaphor. Yeah well I mean good brother around here yes? Of course it is. There are dense. Oh Hello I'm PHILOMENA MTA. And you are Chris. Rose's boyfriend test to make a lovely couple. Where are my manners? Logan Logan King? Chris was just telling me I feel much more comfortable with my being. Nice no cannot. I'd hate to tear you away dear but the wind cuts were asking about you. Well it was nice to meet you. Chris.

"Get out is something spectacular. What do y'all think get out. Get Out I love this movie. Yeah it made me afraid to black man and I'm not so that's a really good job joining there. Yeah well let's get it we've got a we've got a special guest here today and we have opie Here so everybody gives us a big applause for Opie and introduce everyone else. Well not if you don't give me a chance but Interrupting Kent Smith and we got Lar- Truman here and we've got Patrick came in and we've got Carlisle Weaker alias. Sleeker over here on the On the road with Lash podcasts Told him because That wasn't his name. Oh now you're GONNA have to go back and listen so why are true fan boys now right saying yes okay? I love girl. I love both of you. Well all two of you to generic term get out. Let's get out. Let's get in and get into this right now so if you were hit by surprise by those movie being as good as it was because I had seen a lot of shit or if he's and all of a sudden get out. Oh let's see what you've got. I was mesmerized. I was too. I think this kind of ties into like the Rosemary's baby kind of situation and the shining those kind of stories of telling Stepford grown saliva is wide show definitely not a ballistic humanoid underground definitely stepford wives and the and the help. Kinda mix together. That's where it went that is actually what Jordan pill said so I sit really but if you watch the movie it opens on a frightening suburbia suburbia is a little frightening Like Kinda like a Halloween movie where it makes you very scary. But then that song they go into Run Rabbit no not what they do. Go into that. But then when they go to the theme which is Kelly's hang and it sounds almost like Banjo e type of Weird Voodoo ish thing and you've seen this panorama the word yeah panorama of like these trees as they're driving and it's just you start going like what the fuck am I watching. Is this going to be a a voodoo movie a mystical movie? All what one of the things. He talks about I think maybe one of the BBC's behind was that that was part of like the shining that whole feel and like even the credits have coming up even copied the credits kind of the same. Yeah that was pretty interesting. That was something that I was surprised. But I think this film has something different. It T- It touches on a lot of it touched on a really hot subject when he came out and that was race. And you know this really does a great job of showing that the problems that are out there as well as making you still aware of it but but not ending. Swopping bodies out man happens every day. I know yeah metaphors man. Yeah metaphors But that that was interesting but it built as a race race shoal movie Oak Ridge and I think it was Jordan Jordan. Peele made it. He downplayed it at first. And he's like you know. Yeah but then after the success. The sort of called me about race right money. Yeah let's see the opening scene in which a white car stocks a black man and right. We know who is in? That car obviously talked with Jeremy. Jeremy the brother I always thought it was the dead. Right wasn't until re watching it that I realized and talking to the girl own doing the texting yeah. I don't know who he was talking to. The the helmet to the Knights templar the Knights templar helmet. Yeah he's talking to Stephen Root when Chris goes you know there at the Party and he finds the photographer. This gone blind. Great drugger are and he's saying well. Jeremy's methods were right. Not Not as good yes. Yes early scary. Maybe scared I fucking loved this movie I really do. I've seen it so many times. I'M NOT GONNA say Thirty Times with every other movie because it hasn't been thirty times right now eighteen. Well the thing about this I watch it every couple of weeks. Derailing I do and it's it's sometimes my sleepy naptime movie. 'cause I know it so well Paul and I wake up for the end. 'cause I love the is very tense. Very much scientist say by it has a lot of. It has a lot of things in this. It has comedy you know the the the best friend you know is amazing. Rain in this Most dependent on his name Rob In the movies. Yeah Rob is the name of the movie but You Know Heat Rod Rod. Yeah we'll we'll ray however while I'm so sorry this is what happens when you get a bunch of white people together discussing the movie that's primarily black issues I can take Caleb Landry. Oh He's white beyond white Apron android and this was a really interesting. This is the creepiest thing. I've seen him and he usually plays the awkward characters like three billboards. He's kind of awkward. And you haven't seen Lord giving me leads it is a North Carolina film And a couple of other movies. I've seen him and the first time I almost breaking bad as the sons friendy maybe at a scene or two and he seems so young and I always like he was in crime or juniors movie number. Jersey that the Future where like people genetically engineer meets based on their favorite celebrities like Angelina Jolie got a cold. He will try and get that cold. My people are so obsessed with the celebrity. They wanted to get that same strain of virus that she had a guy who goes and collect that stuff by Kronenbourg. Sandra Trim around self did that. He played a pretty just kind of weird dude to look into that one. Kronenbourg all right. How about the casting? What do you guys think about the casting on this thing? I do you think every character was a perfect fit or is there anything that bothered you about it. I think it was really been a fan of his name. All the time Daniel Holloway. I used to watch a lot of BBC stuff and he was on skins. Joe Yeah the first. Few seasons are brilliant and he was on a couple of them. I think he started writing on. There was a chunky little British black dude and then he was on a BBC show called the fades and he was the nerd. Once again young Chunky dude any was The fades is amazing. If you ever have the chance it's only one one Series and So seeing him now and he's kind and he was also on what's that pig fucking show Black Mirror. He was on an episode of Black Mirror. Love she was now like an adult and I went off episodes. I've seen he's on the bicycle. Yes as a talented actor. I read that he got it pretty much like that. He he had done like five readings in the room with With Jordan or whatever and and he would get single tear come down. It was one of the probably the You know going into that. What's the the the sunk in place? It's probably one of those and he had like any would always have one tier in each state. It's amazing the single. Take him him in the past. I know and the grandmother. She's an G. Syra tears but then her face is just plain. It's just there's nothing like spectacular. You Watch her in In that movie upgrade and she just plays like a detective. And I'm like no can do so much more. See You do more? So she was great. the grandfather. The other help person the one who runs the running seen Jesse Owens Counterpart yeah they got. Beat UP BY JESSE OWENS WALTER. He yeah when he did that running see. I mean it wasn't the trailers and still win. The movie happened as fucked up. Yeah yeah it gives you like it. Sets a little like tone that this is at that point. Sorta the the the moment when you rent the step this movie up a little bit and that was kind of like an aspect. That was a step up. Really not right point. The best part is when you're watching it. That's the first impression you get and then later you realize that wasn't weird for the sake of weird that all ties and there's a specific reason.

"Dixon's wants was to become a detective but obviously one of the big things of the movie like like the head right yeah. Absolutely they're actually some really good video essays. I strongly urge anybody listening to this to check out about this about Hayden about love and you know there. There's there's there's some criticisms criticisms of this one. I didn't watch watch was like how not to is something like how not to talk about race in a film or something like that. I didn't get a chance to watch it actually really interesting because all we've been doing is fucking when you know you've been eaten ass and I've been seconded nick this movie the whole night and I'm I wanna hear are contrary opinions that and be like no this movie fucking socks you know not. I'm not talking about like how did this get made hilarious review. I would like to hear a genuine like constructive or negative criticism of it. You know because it's it is kind of hard for me to hit anything. You know. It's it's hard for me to find anything that's really. I don't know like not great other than a couple of scenes wouldn't really need here or there but I haven't really seen anything like that. Just lost me so I have seen some criticisms about. This movie noted that there are people out there who think that it should not have been nominated for as many Oscars as was. I'm wondering now if Daniels vouches come at might reflect that I'd like to say what Daniel thanks this movie. There are people out there who think that it's been a-rated I think must I think mostly criticism revolves around the character of Dixon. I think that a lot of people think and look I don't WanNa put put words in people's mouths but church. I think I think the consensus of about that among people who aren't really like this film is is that Dixon is a way to negative at the start way to of a way to capture Tara and and bay his turnaround happens way too quick and does it by points wave briars till ready in the podcast so no yeah that's that's totally fair. Yeah I mean yes. That's all the shit that I've kind of had issues with you know. It's nothing that just Dr- Dr- drastically takes me out of the movie but you know I. I don't know I can agree and disagree with some of those comments until you're pretty much telling everyone they're wrong right right. Yes it's cute very cute a lot of pan we all the fucking when she when she first rise up Molotov God. What did you think about this. Did you see any of this coming. No I did not fuck it right yeah. I I if there had been some previous indication of like a Molotov cocktail. She was making number something to the NIA but no I didn't see this coming at all once I once I saw him in there and I saw her. Go across the street. I I looked villains and I said she's GonNa do something in fucking get somebody killed when she was making the phone call. I knew that something was happening then but I didn't fucking Molotov cocktails. She met his shot shot him with fucking rocket launcher. Goddamn Yeah I. I was not expecting that at all. I was not expecting this. Kinda esscalation a near that like she was going to retaliate because because of the billboards brain damaged but I did not say this common talk about fucking steel resolved. Here's something what anything about Dixon not realizing until like the Fourth Molotov. The lighting would've ticked me off. I'd be like why why why Bronco I actually actually would have laughed my ass off if he were so dimwitted that at one point he just turned the flashlight off. He's got brighter here and just starts reading his letter by firelight I mean I. It's you know it's a little goofy. you know just that he's a oblivious to it but it is in the middle of night he has been you know. He is getting the last communication he'll ever get from his mentor kind of so. I I mean I can shave off a couple points right there and he. That's a little bit more believable. Oh I get it and emotional scene for him to show. You don't even need a gun and you definitely donate. Hey Hey never solved anything but calm did and thought did try it. Try just for a change. It's known will think you'll gay if they do arrested for homophobia. They be surprised but things are going to change for you. Damn that's when the lost Molotov hits and smashes through Dixon's window gets up and says they Angela Hayes fall about catching fire grabs it and pass it against himself gets the flames your fucking dirt the jump out the window and then the crawling dude. You'd that shit is wild. No yeah absolutely I think that and just just a quick thing. I really really love when he starts freaking out and he goes. I think calm and it's like wow that's great like literally taking the the words that you just read taking them too hard and not you know because it would have even so easy to just freak out right then that's so typical. Dixon and he's like you know that's what I'm saying. I don't mind him not paying attention to the fire because he so sucked into paying paying attention to the words that this person is. I guess writing him. You know whatever I mean 'cause. I didn't think as like oh whatever hills his legs will be on fire or something something like that but when they roll him over I was like ooh boy. Howdy that fucking bowl to face right yeah? I was like Jesus. I'M NOT GONNA lie. He kind of looks like a fucking bad asked later on though man like like that's cool it can like as a sort of looking at him with the burns on his face as like. Do I want a Sam Rockwell Mad ed Max. Do I want. I wanted it because like I don't know something about him. That turn is a little drastic but he becomes like an anti hero real he becomes U. S. man and through some revelations to the plot absolutely when we see James here helping Dixon and flowers I was like why is there a child helping him child a mullet mustache good sprints over and Bates out the flames with his hands and Claude aw Dixon's head hands and body badly charred and Milton's away from horrified and seize the cash fall line there and realizes what Dixon is done as a sarin's and blue light so the ambulance and firemen arrive now. Did you think she was going to take the case file. I totally thought she was going to grab it and run. I really did I initially I remember Emma did thinking that yeah but then I was like maybe she's somewhat in shock because she's she's thinking that there's no one in this police station and and we already know that she when when it comes to people when it comes to actual physical harm when she says that stuff then she's taken aback like like that Kinda gets so. I'm just like maybe she weren't boy. It's so easy to play sabotage in in this and that like kicking a couple of kids in the con- nuts. What's you know that's That's not so that one's not so bad but when you're setting fire to a building there somebody still in it like you. Can you feel the horror horror with her and unfortunately though I it's like you know. This is the risk you take. When you become this type of person and it's you know I know oh. You're intent was not to hurt anybody but you have to be held responsible for those actions like you you you have to be held responsible for the fact of why you didn't know there could have been. GonNa in a janitor and their mop in the fourth guy who didn't have anything to do with the story. You just don't fucking know and I. I think that you know you die hero. Are you in now. This is where she has become whereas Dickson has gone from the black way towards the white intern divide morality she's gone from the white and she's turning away more towards the black and now they're starting to meet in this little shade of grey. That's so great. It's so cool to see them. They're dial start actually getting turned on the same and levels so so good. It's funny reminds me a lot of the coal central plot of breaking bad on you haven't seen it heavy never for you. GotTa get on that. Shit but essentially the the stories of of of wall to watt and Jesse Pink men and hell they start from where they I in season one too when it ends and same five but like somewhere around the middle they kind of intertwine and they're the same spot. That's totally what this reminds me of but essentially Abercrombie questions James James protects mildred by saying that there were his place and the couple. Chaves uses the opportunity to mildred out. I'll go to dinner with you but I ain't GonNa fuck you. Fuck you neither a- guess what he sounds like to me. He sounds like is it. Topi the the guy from family guys like I know somebody didn't eat all these oriented. That's all I can think of when I was seeing him but I love a man. I love the fact that he will pull shark like fucking bad asset pool. I love playing pool. It's one of the sports like yeah. I'm like halfway not garbage pool so I'm like. Oh actually like playing a little bit pool. Sec- in the beginning I was like Oh wow Dixon's willed in by the hospital room in which welby in as well his his vices bandaged Cy Welby doesn't know it's Dixon this is at I saw like this is convenient but man this is such an affecting sane welby replays though sorry Caleb Landry giants pleases so well here as well be like well they asked him if he wants to gloss oranges and Dixon Saas just crying. They're saying thanks sorry throwing them out the window. Initially Welby is just taken aback but you know he's just like stop. Crying the salt and fuck up your wounds. The song was supposed to be good for but you know the white ends is just beautiful because Welby Paul's arduous and places it next to dixons his bed and this is Dixon. I like experiencing firsthand. What it looks like to give like this informs. His characters are well but yeah to talk to me about the standard no yeah. I think that you know if when we have this moment of and I think it's also key for for love God Peterson closest character. Never I never remember name James for James. To you know because obviously he's got a thing you know he's he's got a thing for her and and and he's you know he's covering for her and he's kind of one of the only friends that she has over the other than the woman. What's the woman that she works with the woman who gets the drug charges. I don't ever have name. Yes yeah yeah. I'll I'll find boy either or it's not super important like those those are really kind of like her only friends in this so they take her to jail and then. James is the one kind of covering for her. Dan Sorry Denise Okay Cool. You'd be but yeah..

"They're shooting this movie and witnessed electroshock treatments, and he said he really wanted to see he's watched like four of them to get the right physical reaction to it. And I think that's what makes that scene. When you see them come back in your what what could have happened to this character that electroshock seen one? It gets close. If you're talking about like, that's the worst close if we get him when he's about to get electroshock their God. And the only thing that's really in focus is the plastic thing in his mouth to go from biting off his tongue to re before the plastic is shoved into his mouth, he gets one more like mcmurphy. I am not reading this room moment where he tries to make a mean joke about a nurse ratchet here. Let's just play that really fast. Sure. There might be a little fluid them boots. You know what? I mean. He's a little league light shine boys in Samna specimen did nurse ratchet. He laughs Aaron people just ignores him and then he gets electroshock therapy. And then when he comes back, I love that scene because it's basically just paying a mosh to a little scene from movie from nineteen seventy-one four years before we all know Willie Wonka wouldn't really want right crutches down the red carpet. Yes. About open up his Gandhi factory. He's an old little man. Everybody's sad. He looks like he's gonna fall. And then a somersault in that year. I totally forgot about that. Yeah. That's a great scene in both of these films. It's a great thing. Because I think you see how intense that moment is. And you don't know how he's gonna come back into speaking about these patients on the ward to one of them. They were actually worried about. In real life that he was going to have a mental breakdown. Did you know about this? This is Sydney Lhasa who played the character of cheswick, apparently as the shooting of the film progressed, he continually had these weird Radic mood swings and outbursts so much. So that he burst out in tears and anger when chief basically suffocates, Jack Nicholson's character hit to be removed from set the doctor who is in the film who was also there while they were shooting was like I'm worried about him. I don't know exactly what happened to him. It was just being around that energy. He got into a very dark place. I mean, I'm fascinated by that because cheswick is maybe my favorite supporting character. It's hard to say because every time the camera is on Christopher, Lloyd. I'm like, Christopher Lord is my favorite supporting character. And every time it's on a Brad Dorf. I'm like God. He's basically like I. Gen Caleb Landry Jones one of my favorite. I love it. I love it. Give you more. Danny devito's amazing. But there's just something in the broken of cheswick that glove. Harding to me are such an interesting Joe, I feel like watching them and their interactions with each other. Like, let's listen to them when Harding is getting picked on for all of the men implying that he's guy which was more clear in I believe in the book and cheswick trying to get favor anyway, he can by sticking up for him. And oh my God. It kills me. Oh. You're there all crowding in on your Mr. hiding, they all ganging up on that news that they sometimes want to gang up on me too. But as favor. Take it easy. Take and stay off my side. But I only want to I want I only want to help stat. But don't you want me to please? But that more one please that I only want to help you lease to ten CM. What breaks? And my heart about that. Is you know, you mentioned that the doctor that deemed Brooks was worried about cheswick Harding. Did you hear about this? No during the course of the film. He diagnosed the actor playing Harding William Redfield as having leukemia. God. Yeah. And he died the next year. Wow. That's a little on. Well, let me change topic for one second on talking about another actor. I think is a great comedy performance. And that is Scott men Cruthers. I love Scatman Cruthers in this. He plays one of the night orderlies. And there's a lot of big gets in this movie..

"And really choose people that I really feel like we're going to do really great this year. So my first tweet is going to be Winston Duke. So Winston played him Opoku, I know in Black Panther. And he was so good. He had like a really a breakout role in that even though it was so small, and then he is starring in the new movie s Jordan Peele. He's also going to be in wonderland. That's being done by Peterberg. And he's going to be co starring with Mark Wahlberg. Now normally I would be like that seems like a. I'm like bad me. No, that's how people are going to get to know him. Because people love them some art Walberg movies. They make a lot of money. Plus, I like Peter Berg maybes weirdly, I still really love cedar. Right there. Well, it's just usually hot guys. So I like how different Winston Duke is in his different roles. So I'm looking forward to that. My next one is weird because people generally know who he is. But I think twenty nineteen is going to be his year, and that is actually Levi. Okay. Here's what thing I think is turning the marvelous MRs Mazel was fantastic and unexpected. I didn't even know he was in it until he showed up on my screen. I was like oh, Hello. What are you doing here? And then I was like I'm don't want you to leave were so cute in this. And then he's going to be in the lead inches Zam. And it's getting a lot of like early film festival buzz. And so I think this is going to be his year to finally break out a guy who's really been on the sidelines and like beloved by a lot of people, but never really famous famous venture. And so and then my final one is Maggie Rogers. She was she's a singer. She was recently on Sanal and got a lot of that's how a lot of people found out about her. And when in reality sheet, literally like ferrall was. Like teaching a course at our college. And like had everybody write a song. And then he signed her right then based on the song, she read in the class, and she has a new album coming out in January she's touring most or twenty nineteen opening right now for like Mumford. And so she I just think this is going to be here, you're I'm already already have tickets to see your Birmingham. I'm so excited. And so I think this will be a big year for her hus- good. That's a good list. Melissa I've got several to go quick. My first one is Meena massad. Yeah. He is playing Aladdin in Aladdin. I think I'm a little more bullish on you on Aladdin than you are. And again, I don't know what bullish and bearish means somebody. He's not wrong. But I feel very control the Iran now, you're either way, but he's he's very talented. When I look for is like people who booked a big deal thing. And then booked a lot of smaller deal things. Right. Because that tells me they're going to be permeating the culture a little bit.
