"The new spokesperson for general. So that new movie to vacation friends. Look on. I'll be good to lawrence in connecticut fifth grader. He hosted that that was great and also wipe out. It was he hosted. Well the wipeout also size there as well. Yeah someone dider said guys. You know that's That's american ninja warrior. Hell that's gonna. John henson was wipe out. I guess i just wipe out his. It's not it's not the safest for those times similar outcomes. I guess i. I didn't know that actually happened. Every time i watch something on tv. That seems like legitimate. I can't be that real because it wouldn't be on tv. Like america's got talent. I love america's got talent and when somebody calls like howley up or somebody up on and they have this thing. I'm always like okay. They've been smartened up on what's going on here or what if they actually have it in. So we see. Simon calcuta boehner era right through the forehead. One time that can happen. I just saw. I just saw a very reputable performer. At a carnival. Hey reputable very reputable performer. Shit and gami gami. It was a very reputable. Reputable spectacle. Performer at a carnival. Which is another thing you go to if you see some shit happening. You're like okay. I'll just assume nobody's gonna actually die here but it seems like we are death defying the moment. There's somebody a carville. Because it is about. To be state. Pharisees and we'd be killed snipers we didn't have any in pittsburgh where i once we had to community days which is much different. I joined the state fair since coming. Indiana it is awesome. I mean it is people watching paradise. The fried food is good. The experiences great i mean state fairs are incredible but getting introduced to these as an adult as opposed to just some dumb ass kid. That just kinda gets brainwashed into something. Seeing some of these things are not there. People should not be marketing. This this should not be happy. There's going to be people that there was a guy in some carney somewhere he was doing. And by the way they're great salespeople happy state fairs and carney's if they didn't end up going to jail for whatever they went to jail for however long they wind or choosing down the road of substance or whatever they chose to us they would have been incredible business people they can to do whatever they're amazing and they also have. These incredible town can do all those all that shit that you can't do rolling the ball and having a stop after that one they do it every single ta easy game. Easy games out ball rolling. It goes easy leap fucking the circle thing and they go around that god damn thing that easy game. He's a game and they go. You wanna play you touch. Bang the thing every one of those. I even saw one. Look like the fucking american sniper guy with a rifle you have to shoot the star out and you know how the barrel is talk crap. Yeah you never you missed the first five and then you have to fix it and you never have enough. I saw one guy ben. One of these fucking bullets like he was angelina. Jolie and that fucking thing in snipe out the entire stars who the fuck are you dude. But anyways i wonder if they ever messed up because i had never seen him do it ever and i'm like these might be the most consistent motherfuckers on earth. There's a video floating around here every now one of them this guy's gonna show everybody's no no ts. Nine cheltenham air force ones that were watching along there at the end because somebody jot their phone off that happened. That's you're right. He's not that we did have the line to see if he was not that blood for a week but he's good he's alive he is. I believe nick. Nick told me this guy was alive. I'd never confirmed or denied anything. Oh spinal cord slap like slim. Jim i don't know if he's alive. This is why this show can't home run again no way. Well i wanna see if he's okay. Yeah i bet you did. I didn't know that. I just assume mmediately right there. No no that's not as i fall you know. There's no way i fall practice. No i think it is. Have you ever been to one of these day. Do years of practice and falling off of that and then he gets put on the big stage. I don't know but anyways he's okay. Thank you for committing yourself. One last week where it was like fourteen bucks a night. It was like passing carpet. Came off and it was just all over the place. Oh yeah and then also saw. Maybe they should have done. Like for instance on the harley comes back out of the garage you got recheck evidence right. I only go to tighten these bolts. A little bit here. See what's going on. See if everything can run. I feel like the state fairs carnivals that i've seen on the internet. The rollout process has not been one where they have checked everything. Going back in. There was one where the entire proud to hold the fucking thing. Up people spinning. Hold it down. Hold it and then. They're almost getting clipped by the humans. I mean it is out of now. It's time to hop back onto the world bird. Yeah well that's the problem when these carney's are more focused on when they can go smoke their next cigarette as opposed to tighten the bolts on the thing. That's probably gonna kill a bunch of people. Just stay away. It's not worth doll. You broad brush these carney's okay. He did though you can tell that. Video the flying star. That's going around guy. Comes you know camera right. He's got a long cigarette hanging out of his mouth and he's telling the people well fuck it me. Hold this thing these videos. They show up in my online a lot. I guess state fair is very easy to creep into my world and carnivals i mean there are some of the word itself so much fought but only really getting into it as an adult. There's a lot of holes in what's going on potentially be devastating. I mean that is as part of the show. I guess though for for me. I guess what. They're fun fun. What do you mean. And he used to set up in a parking lot. Right where i close to where i grew up in. It'll come every year and it was like that and you do all the rides. That are who knows how the the safety check is whatever. He didn't feel hunt percent safe but they will son that spin.

"We like classes. Guitar lessons shit. But i to tabligh glasses because my brother said that the teacher was really funny. Would not make you do anything. I would just go there then. You're not classes became boring because we would not do anything. We'll just room for like forty five minutes. I just stayed at the guy and standing at me. Play something nothing would happen. Then like i started bunking those last bunking them with and they were playing that at that point so we had guitar glasses than i used to just and him to go sit with them in their passes just for the sake of hanging out with them because it be so boring and there. I would see them singing along. The yellow submarine the teach them beatles. Yeah and like that whole vibe. That room everyone. Someone is playing the cards and lake. A list of them are singing. Felt like it's also warm. And like i don't know alm then do this then after a few days the spend suggested you know. Let's learn guitar you. Will you learn guitar alone. Based will get cool. I asked by me. I was like around sixty. I guess it was my forest guitar. And it was like those Fake brands okay. Fake brands going really. Cheap wants to call original version of gibson guitar grad rate so there would be fake brands called gifts. I had gotten a guitar guitar. And i got so at the same had one private utah so by then i knew how to operate computers and everything that was like i mean okay i did you know those internet go to youtube and stuff so and this one thing happened. This guy didn't he didn't use to come to beat me always bunk. The i'd just sit with mega yard. Doing what to heck with that. Some youtube more to learn and i would just be on youtube the whole like the whole day. I would just sit on youtube. Go videos and try to learn and slowly slowly. Things picked up then class nine and happened intent. There was this fest call chrysalis. We have this festival christmas. Okay so there. I saw our school band for the first time because schoon vans already. Don't play in school. They really outlet fool in other schools for fests. So this one thing. We had the post having artist and they were. There was a battle of the bands and they were playing guitar and they were playing dude. When i saw that said i just lost it. I was only. I need to make a man dude. I don't know like when vans are on stage and when they connect and lock in with each other it's just creates a whole different universe when indulged in their music like and they create this call atmosphere. where whoever's listening to them gets pulled in into their environment into there are producing the music so that just struck out so much to me. And i felt that you know i need to. I need to do that. I need to do that as well because our else there needs to be some kind of outbreak floor or whatever is going into so yeah then of my friends whom i you know. I used to bunk my classes. They were guitarists started. I was like dude. I'm not that good at guitar. But how i can see okay. So let's make a band and then these guys will ever get cool. Let's make a ban restarted practicing in school. After after school ours you know would stay back in school in this land pluses. They would have their guitar just saying then slowly slowly. We got a drummer. Then recycling confessed. We started winning them. And the whole you know that whole journey of just stain back off the school after a holiday like school nonsense. You're exhausted already but just keep at it. This is what is makes you keep going like the whole Music me then. We started going battle demand one year and then we went boss call. Then you know I met this dude. In one of the random gigs that would happen in the city. Lake calcuta would have a lot of open. Mics apnea us. I just went to one. And i saw this doodling this kind of guitar and record. It was at that time it hadn't blown up but it was a stick style of guitar playing. I think you have seen me play that drifting where. I'm hitting the all over the body. Yes yes yes. That was when i had you know initially discovered that style of guitar playing and that style gabbling was so much. How do i say expressive. Like when you're in a band there are certain elements that you can express through the other people in your band right. But when you're doing a solo sail everything on you all the motions all the all that auto that i was talking about including people in it's up to you it's not. It's not up to like abandoned five people up one game and you're doing a soloist and so i feel like that kind of lean gambling. Give me that you know. It was a tool with which i could enhance make and make it more immersive for people who are listening to me so i guess that's how i started thinking that style of guitar. You know even that i- youtube by never had teachers just don't come to teach me so. Yeah then. I started youtube tubing everything. Then i came to college. I met you. I've played a few songs in the in. Rpg than you guys will. They do the sauce on that. That just gave me more and more that boost for Spreading music. Because generally. When i feel like whenever you get it made you happy at least brought a smile. So that's that's what. I came for all the time playing anywhere or just for me or for people. I just want smile as long as a smile is that i see lake was done at. I have made that person happy with my music so that that just gave me more boost. When i would see you guys you know. Be so happy about it. Then i started thinking then on this needs to be done a little bit more seriously because it just felt like it was through to nature. Blame music then. Yeah you're right over that. If any moment happen and i was like on those is somehow managed plus having tornado. All it's finished. I got a job. I left that jaw then. I got another job during that time mine. I met a bunch of people with whom. I have my band right now. Ranjini coastal peru ratio. All of them like i met it. Was i dunno. Meeting them was also one whole story. Who is like a fairy tale moment like. I used to jam at home at my apartment in college and runs and became friends. And she's also musician. She's like a trade musician for eleven years. I guess and then she would your the stuff. I would play and then she would do.

"But it didn't happen. You know and they're practicing here so could they have. You know theoretically. I assume berkeley falls outside of the county lines. Berkeley's i it's it's in It's called alameda county. I believe i think part of alameda county so But yeah but all these counties and they're concerned that that county was also going gonna get me maybe have to go into a more a more stringent shelter in place order or something. So that's why they decided on arizona. Annex i it seems the most ideal. There's not really a lot you know. You don't want to try to try to go up into oregon and i'm not even sure would would oregon's restrictions are but You gotta play in an nfl stadium. I would have said stanford. But when you mentioned the palo alto in santa clara county that That didn't make a whole lotta sense either. Yeah i mean yeah but but again i mean i. I'm curious to see what's going to happen with these. Other teams now especially with stanford i think. They only have one home game left. But you know. I don't even know what's going on there and so much so many of these these teams whether it's college especially college. I got the pros. Have their schedule set but college. "League pitcher of the month Kyle coup bad. Who's joining us now and call you had quite the journey coming from Kansas City undrafted all the way back in twenty fifteen find your way to the White Sox. You've been up and down the system and now to be the minor league pitcher of the month. Congratulations. That's an awesome accomplishment. Appreciate it is an accomplishment, and I'm honored to be named by a pitcher of the month for may. It's a it's a humbling feeling. Keep working hard every out into the field. So you start the year at Winston Salem. You get bumped up to Birmingham. Last year. You've got all the way up to Charlotte and had to start, what would you say that, because people are saying that I guess that your slider? Is it proved what do you point to as far as my success is on the uptick? Any, any particular reason? Definitely been working on my slider curveball so each stuff an average throughout my career. So I've been committed to working on those two pitches throughout my professional career and just being able to do what I do best strikes get ahead of hitters taxes, own with no three to four different pitchers dependent upon the day, attack hitters and get him out and lessened four pitches. And. There. And so you're a college guy, you went to Nebraska, you played for Darin Erstad. We had Aaron bomber on last week. And he spoke glowingly about your coach. I, I know you have the same feelings. What, what was it like for you in college? And I guess he was holding a vision for you that, perhaps you weren't holding for yourself. Yeah. He's more than just show. Your corner for the rest of your life. You play for him. And he's, he's antastic human, the NFL coach. And you know colleges. It's difficult at times your way at all from home for the first time, and it can be stressful. So there were times to college where you know I struggled as a person, not even on the ball field. So they have to be there for me as a mentor that just a coach is, is very, very rewarding to happen in my corner. And I can't think that ended up for. Making me the ball player in the band today. I mean you're you were born in Omaha, correct. So that, that had to be a bit of a dream for you. If not a huge room to be able to play four Nebraska. When they're wearing the red from from Omaha as yeah. It's a it's a cool feeling. I was I was in the stand stadium when the grass roots series and to be able to put on the uniform was an even better fuel it. And when you were coming in the minors, Kyle Calcuta joining us here on white socks weekly, the White Sox. Minor league pitcher of the month pitching for the Birmingham Barons right now on seven twenty WGN you get an ad minor league clubhouse for the first time you're older than than over half the team Kyle, did you feel like I don't know it like more mature than your teammates like it was sort of, like you just maybe had an edge so to speak that you had had already been through college. You know who I'm with who I was with last year in? Yeah. I am. And you know, being in the minimize for four years, it'd be a college. Give them what I've learned through college at five four or five years league ball out out. Then get better as well. I feel like a little kid just still being able to play baseball. And I know I'm a little older but I still feel like a little kid playing all the I mean I'm in my mid forties. Skylight still feel like a little, you don't want to lose that I think it's a good thing gives you that energy. But I absolutely not. But, but then there's the whole hey, he's twenty six is he ever going to make it to the big leagues thing? That's kind of, you know, a pressure that a lot of guys feel and I've seen some comments from you, where you're trying to get there. But you also don't wanna make your entire career about if I get to the big leagues, I guess, just awesome that you get to play professional baseball period. So that seems like something that you had, you know, I don't know work on to get yourself in a comfortable place where you don't have that whole wait on you all the time. Where I like I said earlier in the. And maybe April I had an interview with. It is kind of saying the same thing and but I was grafted so to still be here after, you know, five years, Pro Bowl is, is a blessing, and I've just having fun. Take everything comes. Good days, bad day. Good outings, bad out. It's just being able to be a part of professional ball make so many connections, meet somebody dies. You know you wanna make it to the big league, that's obviously a they call for everyone who plays his game but to be able to play this. Minor league no five years after being drafted. It's a it's a blessing. To be able to still throw baseball ward. Are you gonna do if baseball didn't come calling? I don't know. I got my degree happy about that. Nebraska, had some opportunities for graduates or traveling abroad, internships and stuff like that. So once baseball's done all figure out that probably want to travel the world, the little bit. Coachee go from there. All right now. Being able to obey staying healthy. No doubt. No doubt. What's the degree in nutrition how science? Okay, so you going to be it was yeah, it was chemical engineering. But then I decided I wanted to enjoy college a little bit. I support that decision. Kyle just see, you know, and you and you learn some things that I I don't know. It seems maybe practical to your career right? Yeah, absolutely. Being able to understand how to eat how to use it for obviously. It's very hard when we're on the road for, you know, six seven months out of the year, so you gotta say discipline, did it definitely helps to be able to understand how to train your body and eat healthy in order to get through an entire baseball season. Because it it is long grind. I know it is a cliche phrase. We say it all the time. But once you get in your like holy cow. It actually is a grind. So to be able to understand you know what about what, what you're doing. In order to get through an entire season. It's critical to know playing at your peak performance. Do you allow yourself to go to waffle house? Absolutely. There are no awful houses in Nebraska. I think the closest one is Kansas City. So whenever I have a chance to go to waffle house. Yeah. To go to waffle house. And then when they're when you're in spring training, you gotta go to in and out. Uh-huh. Have to go there. And you know snack on a on a girder and surprise. So yeah, you gotta have a know every now and then you go animal style on that burger, sometimes I do. I'm just more of a traditional cheeseburger guy. But sometimes I'll go animal style. What's the order waffle house? Do you bet down to a T also? Get what is it? What is this, the Americas played or whatever they call it? Four eggs, bacon, lawful them, and hashbrowns. So, so good. Very simple. See people dog waffle house. They're just you're just you're not living your life, the correct way, waffles does great work. It's not an everyday. You get off the bus that two in the morning sometimes. And there's a Wall Street and he got twenty twenty minor leaguers to waffle house at two in the morning. So it's good times. So, okay. Just take me into that world for, for one second, because I, I don't know why got jealous of this. But I just do you guys play a night game in wherever, and then right after the game you'll get on the bus and go and travel to the next location. You'll get in you'll eat, and then you'll go to bed and, and get up and play a game. The next day is that, oh, that works that, that just depends on how far the is. So right now, actually run a buck right now. We left at nine in the morning, we're headed to mobile Alabama, but we're going from Birmingham to Jacksonville, Florida will play seven o'clock finish the game at ten is, and then the best so leave at eleven o'clock I've acted. That's about it. Eight hour drive with a time change going from central to eastern time zone. So those trips will leave and go through the middle of the night if they're at six seven in the morning. Go take a take a nap throughout the day and be back on the bus about three or four and a half. To go play. Really continue our conversation with Kyle, CU dot coming on back here, people are texting in on waffle house. Some people saying you get chicken waffles. I don't know about giving the chicken. It's recive then you gotta stick to basics eggs, pancakes, mainly waffles, of course bacon. So doing the chicken. Waffle house. Get their chicken. That's, that's a that's an over the top move there. I give you credit for doing that. I don't know if I'm that the risky coming on back here. I the White Sox at least two bus minor league baseball team, which is the Birmingham Barons right now. They play a game on the bus that is pretty aggressive. I think you'll enjoy the conversation. That's next seven twenty WGN. The recent storms have been a reminder of, how important are gutters are to a healthy house, clocked. Gutters can lead to things like would rod.

"And but it was it was something I never considered. How about you, Melissa? I love it because it's an exercising gratitude, which we've talked about before that it's a good idea to be able to focus on positive things positive character things little things that we love about our kids that aren't behavior specific. I also think there's something beautiful about the pivot. Focus on someone else. And I've actually talked about this with a couple other families even in our crisis. Maybe we've talked about it here on the podcast focusing on someone else. Even know when it felt like we had nothing else to give could really be energizing can get us out of our own pity party. But the focus somewhere else, I guess in some ways mother's day was created to celebrate us as mothers. But we can celebrate ourselves as mothers, and how much we love being a mother by honoring our kids and that helps just a shift in expectations. It means that we don't have to put away all of our expectations. We are humans, and we have feelings, but maybe we can just funnel that into another type of expectation. I actually just pulled up what she wrote. Specifically, what she said is she makes a card that says reasons, I love being your mom. And then she lists five to ten specific things about each kid. That makes me love being their mom. It's beautiful. So anyhow that's kind of challenging to me. I I may tackle that. I don't know if any of you will. But if you do let us know I'd love to hear about that. Besides turning the focus on our kids. We can also service to service projects outside of our whole family. So we had one listener stay that they do like a make a wish type projects or maybe there's a local soup kitchen, or maybe there's a single mom in your community who you could give a break to. I mean, there's just so many. There's so many ways to skin this cat. Right. You two years and years ago while many years ago when I was a new mom, so I think I had had my oldest daughter, maybe two months before. And I was having actually a pretty hard adjustment. I was experiencing postpartum depression, and my baby was a really fussy baby. And I'm sure that it in part was because I was can struggling myself. And anyhow this mother who I saw an older wiser mother. And now when I reflect back she was probably in her thirty. So that seems hilarious now. But I was only twenty three and she had I think for kids. And so to me, she was the hidden me of an experience mother, anyhow, she wrote me a letter just encouraging me as a mother, and I think she wrote them to several of the young moms in our church, and that meant so much to me, I expect that. I have that save somewhere because it was so meaningful to me. And I think that's a beautiful thing. I mean, this is mother's day. And not everybody is having a good experience or doing really really well. And so her words were super crouching to me. So I love that focused on someone else. I love that. Okay. So third thing would be established some simple traditions. These are things that your family can kind of fall back on again, it goes with expectations simple things that people can have opinions about. But again, it's that structure that we need. But the things that we do anyway. So depending on what part of the country you live in it might be gardening. That's a really big thing where we live kind of in the mid Atlantic mothers as kind of the marker where we're pretty sure we're not gonna get any more frost. And this is the time when it is supposed to be safe to put some of your seedlings into the ground in such things. So our garden centers and home depots are always teeming with people at this time of year getting ready for this week. End it might be visiting family could be a special type of meal. So you don't have to think about what's a cook could be eating out. So there's lots of little things in maybe visiting a lot of local like gardens like we have a antastic tulip garden in our area. It's usually past season by mother's day. But there's lots of really pretty places to go where the kids can run around and you can enjoy nature kind of at a distance can a half parenting half enjoying yourself. So there's just lots of little things if you have other things to share with us would love to hear about those in the group as well. Listen, you guys have any kind of simple traditions. Well, it changes from year to year. But there have been a few years where we've gone for a hike after dinner as a family, and that that's a really neat thing. Again, you're getting outdoors with your kids. It was really funny when mother's day we went for a hike, and as we were going up the mountain our friends were coming down. So they had the same idea anyhow getting outdoors and doing something. Physical together is was a good thing. And I I enjoyed that a lot here we have done Korean food, my mom, my sister and me a love it. None of the boys really do. So just in the name of luck speculations instead of making everyone wanted the boys. Go get Chinese carry out in the girls. Go get Korean carry out with is like one massive feast in the sheer we have Kayla apply. One eighth, Ian. So we'll just have this big takeout ethnic meal situation properly at our house, then actually sounds really really fun, and nobody has to cook in there's minimal cleanup. So that's beautiful so forth thing that we all all of us in the fostering and adoption world are aware of is that our children we need to find a way to recognize an honor their birth family. If that's something that's important to them. You know, a lot of our kids have multiple mothers. They may have as they may have had a foster mother before us. They were very close. Two. They may have you know, their first mom, they may have a stepmom they could have grandmothers. And so are lot of people that their hearts might be pulled toward on this day. And some of our kids are going to experience grief that they feel like they're with the raw mom, this isn't you're not the mom. They wanna be with. I'm not the mom. They wanna be with. I think it's important to make away for our kids to talk about it. Let it be a normal heart of conversation. And then if they want to acknowledge one of their other mothers in a special way, I think that's important, and I was just reflecting back to win. We did the birthday episode, and I talked about how the night before. Calcuta UN's birthday we lit a candle and talked about her first month. And again, a number of our kids are going to have mothers who died what we want to do is honor. These relationships is very very special bond. Bonds and again with expectations we need to be aware. And we need to plan ahead. You know, your kids, you know, what they're going to want a need. But it's an important conversation

"And honor Calcuta, I mother, and so I remember that night respite the other kids to bed, and I have, you know, variety of different candles, and so I let count on choose a candle and she put it on this pretty little tray and then rest rejoined. It was just the three of us in rest helped your light this candle and she curled up in our laps. And we just talked. We talked about her birth family and how much her mother loved her. And how precious she must have been and how her dimples match her sister simple, sir sister who was. A teenager still in Ethiopia. I think by doing that the day before it freed her like that was sort of complete and it freed her then to enjoy the actual day of her birthday. And I wrote a post about it which will link to in the show notes, but it's so cute because on the very day of her birthday. She wanted a castle birth cake birthday cake, and you know, I'm I'm not super secrecy. But we found a castle birthday cake on we didn't even use. I think it was from family fun magazine. I this is like we weren't really into Pinterest or anything. But on the day that was actually her birthday. We had a lot of fun and she had friends over and she had this fantastic castle cake that you can see if you wanna see it in the that post. And I I think my overall thought about that is that birthdays can bring up a lot of feelings, and they may not all be happy feel. Things. And so if we can give our children in opportunity to honor their birth family. We should do it. They might say. No, you know. I don't wanna do that. Which is fine. But giving them the opportunities. What's important? Yeah. Absolutely. And some of us are in open adoptions, and there might be birth family who wants to celebrate with your children or child as well. So I think a lot of those points still apply, you know, thinking about the timing. You know, it doesn't all have to happen on the birthday. And I think that takes a lot of pressure off having clear urban communication with your child's for family about, you know, gift ideas, or or limits, or you know, scheduling an outing we talked in a couple of episodes back about having boundaries with family. If necessary how to include them, but still keep keep it safe and keep it realistic and manageable. So we'll link to. That in the shouldn't says, well, you know, our kids, you know, just logistically thinking about that is a big deal for us. So again, just going back to all the things at big feelings that our children are managing, especially if you're in an open adoption just adds extra layers to be kind to yourself. You know, we got a question or a comment actually about that. Also in our Facebook group from gin. She said my daughter saw birth family birthdays for several years after finalization when they stopped contacting us in the birthday, visit stopped. It was a painful reminder of what was lost this year. They asked to call her on her birthday initially. She was excited within emotions overwhelmed, and she panicked. And she asked to wait. It's so many emotions to process making the day more exhausting than enjoyable for her and I worry. Yeah. I mean, the just there's no there aren't easy answers to a lot of what we're walking through. And we do the best we can and we pay attention to. Our kids, and what they're telling us with their words and their behaviors and bring in the advice in the council of in. Our mental health providers are our social workers in other families hope walked similar journeys. I think also if you are celebrating with first families in addition to your family, yet, maybe we need to be talking about it more as birthday week or birthday weekend or something. So that it doesn't feel like it all has to happen on the same day. So we can have birthday dinner like we do. And then the next day, we could meet first families birth families and do something special with them. So it doesn't all have to be incorporated into one thing it, it's okay to have the celebration of our couple of days in order to meet the needs of our kids and to incorporate other family members who do love them. Yeah. And again, I think we can frame it to some kids will still feel a lot of big emotions, but you. You know, frame it as you get to have a birthday week because there's so many people that want to celebrate you. And that is something that not all kids get to have, you know, not all families want their kids birthday week. But we, you know, we're gonna do for, you know, a gift opening thing and a birthday dinner thing, and the first thing so Lino just look at all the ways that we get to celebrate how loved you are a precious you are so that's really important to you know, they're a couple of other just random things around birthdays that have come up in our journey. One is our kids were told a lot of stories about turning eighteen at eighteen your Finland's was going to kick you out you're going to be on your own. And obviously eighteen is a lot of implications here in the states legally. But it doesn't have to mean something practically, you know. There's nothing magical eighteen that you have to pack your bags and leave. So just knowing that it took a long time for our daughter to come out and tell us that she was really. Worried about that. And every birthday that was part of the birthday drama was every birthday meant she was a year closer to eighteen and that was terrifying to her.

"It will say basement or lower grounds and then basement and then garage, wh whatever, and I think that's because having the numbers coming down, and then stop going up again, but they're actually going further Dan is really quite hard to understand. And the you understand the history of. That you know, they was even just a a hundred years ago. They were mathematicians who are writing books that have no negative numbers in them because they thought the negative numbers. How can they exist? And then you follow on from that you thinking. Well, there's consented math, which all square roots of minus one like how can minus one have a square because whenever you square anything you becomes positive and the square roots of minus one such amazing idea that without it. We wouldn't have modern physics. We wouldn't have kind of electronics is such a powerful idea quickly something you talk about. It's really interesting. Everybody knows what dyslexia is and it causes people to have trouble with words. But there's a number version of that. There's people who have the same problem or more or less the same problem with numbers as people with dyslexia have with letters and words, and it's called the dyscalculia. Talk about that. I think about five percent of the population have dyslexia. So everyone knows dyslexia is studied a lot. 'cause Calcuta is a number quivalent of that people who see numbers, we'll see the symbol for numbers. And just it just doesn't go in. They just there's some kind of blindness to it. They just don't get it. And this is happens to affect probably about the same about five percent of the population. And it's a lot less well researched. And if you do find numbers really really difficult, they just sort of don't get away. And you just don't quite gross them. You feel blind by them. It could be the case that you have this calculator and just go Q. There is nothing about mathematical ability. You can have Britain mathematicians who are little bit discount cubic when it comes to actual numbers. And if you do this co Q to do your children might we just calculate if you look online there. Little things that can help you assess whether you are and give you strategies on how to cope with numbers in. In life. Well, as I used to say to my parents, and as my son says to me about the math. He learns in school. You know, this is never going to be helpful to me in real life. I'll never need to know this stuff. But in fact, numbers and math are integral parts of our lives, and it is important. And and in many ways, really fascinating, Alex bellows has been my guest Alex written several books, including Alex's adventures in number land. He's also got a book of handcrafted Japanese puzzles called puzzle ninja and a series of books called soccer school that teaches kids about the world using soccer. There's a link to Alex's book in the show notes. Thanks, alex. Appreciate you. Joining me. One of great doesn't it? It is interesting that so many of us go to the supermarket, and we comparison shop we look for bargains. We use coupons were very price conscious when we shop for food and yet so much of that food ends up getting thrown away. In fact, it's estimated that a family of four could save about fifteen hundred dollars a year by being more careful about the food. They buy that's over a hundred dollars a month about forty percent of the food. America produces goes to waste when you separate out households from commercial entities like restaurants. It's about twenty percent of what we purchase at the supermarket that eventually finds its way into the trash. This is according to Dana gutters. Who's a senior scientist at the national Resources Defense Council and author of the waste free kitchen. Handbook nobody wakes up in the morning wanting to waste food. It happens in little bits and pieces. According to Dana gunners where so price conscious when we go shopping. But when we get the food home and eventually throw out say a quarter of the cheese. We just bought we don't realize that's the same dollar fifty. We were trying so hard to save when we went shopping, and now it's just down the drain, and it all starts with being more deliberate about what you buy. And that is something you should know. Join us follow us. We're on social media on Facebook, Twitter and linked in I'm Mike Carruthers. Thanks for listening today to something you should know.

"Was talking about ubiquonol they've shown that ubiquonol makes your body and your heart younger, and if your heart is younger that puts you off the time where you maybe could suffer your first, heart attack and they've shown human clinical trials. I mean, they've even shown in heart attack survivors, where the heart is damaged that giving them ubiquonol helps keep them out of the hospital helps reduce the number of additional heart attacks and helps keep them alive, heart attack survivors that literally keeps him alive. So I do my ubiquonol every day. I think it's one when you kinda hit sixty it's one of the most important things you can take as just incredibly important to take you back. And are you Bicknell's the only co Q ten that's active at she only co Q ten that's natural as she only co Q ten that's an antioxidant. And it's the only one made in America are three Chinese ubiquonol manufacturers are manufacturer is Japanese decor kenneka, but they make it in Texas. And we use technology from Texas Tech health science center, where they make ubiquonol even more absorbable ubiquonol in general is many times more absorbable than Calcuta, but they take D lemon. It's it's from Texas Tech health science center there pharmacy school there. Pharmacologist have patented technology day take de out of oranges and a melting ubiquonol into millions of tiny droplets. Started more water soluble and this very effectively improved the absorption of ubiquonol. But then we that's not enough for us. Then we worked with capsule down in Greenville, South Carolina day of technology that improves the absorption of you Beckmann. Also. In fact, we tested the technology upper Cornell, the Cornell center for advanced technology, and by technology, and they said to stuff is amazing. It really improves to bio availability of your ubiquonol. So are you Bicknell's totally made in America. We have the very safe technology to improve its absorption for you get enough to your heart and brain and it works quite well with the next supplement. I take both. I mean, I work all the time. So I need the energy. I really do. I mean, I need the help. And there's four things I take to give me energy. One is ubiquonol. I don't leave the house without taking ubiquonol. I take one hundred twenty milligrams ubiquonol every morning breakfast. The second one is the envy performance, multi. The third is a dose of rodeo, which is Viking Jensen. I take with my lunch and a fourth is actually to nutrients, but I put them in the same pill. It's called Al car with a L A. Alcohol with LA doing the brain. What ubiquonol does in the body? So whereas ubiquonol is restoring energy production in your body effect. They've shown even an elite athletes ubiquonol improves their performance. Alcohol with LA will do that. And your brain. I read a very interesting study. And it was like one of those wallah moments. You know, it was like an opinion me. I was going home from this program exhausted. You know after six days of work. And I go home, and I'd sit on the couch, and I'd watch some TV show some interesting TV show, and I feel really fatigue for an hour to. But then I realized the fatigue wasn't my body. The fatigue was coming out of my brain. So about three months ago, I found supportive evidence for that. I found a study that looked at elderly people. And they said, listen, these people are inactive, it's not because their body is tired s because their brain is tired. That's really interesting. So I do to Al every day. A couple of hours after my breakfast. 'cause if I do it with food at won't get absorbed into my brain as effectively so I take it either an hour before breakfast that's enough time away from food or two hours after. Al car and a L A R to nutrients stuttered natural to the body. It's not like drinking a Cup of coffee, which is different. That's not native to the human body. That's foreign this is native to human money. They're supposed to be in your body, but their activity and air concentration declines with age which sets you up for memory loss, which set you up for depression. Which sets you up for aging brain, accelerated, aging, brain y. The number one source of fuel for your brain is not protein, and it's not fat, and it's not medium chain, triglycerides. And it's not a Cup of coffee or red bull. It's sugar. So when you eat like, a whole, grains Sheryl. Or some Brown rice or some carrots or peas or broccoli and spinach or an apple or an orange the sugars and knows the healthy sugars in those foods a lot of data is used to generate energy in the brain. The source of energy for your brain is sugar. It's not key tones. It's not fast. It's not proteins sugar. The problem is as you grow older metabolism in the brain slows down it gets harder and harder to use sugar for energy in the brain. And for repairing the brain and fuelling to brain for all its diverse activities such as studying and reading and learning and remembering figuring things out and solving problems. And keeping you safe. In fact, a number of researchers now, call Alzheimer's disease, diabetes at a brain diabetes in the body body. Can't you sugar? Diabetes the brain to bring can you? Sure. And that's called Alzheimer's. They're calling Alzheimer's diabetes. Bring who says such a severe disruption of energy production and metabolism in the brain and Alzheimer's patients. Alcorn LA are a major component of a drop of activity and metabolism to bring because they're not functioning. Well. The enzyme that makes Al Qar function and brain carnitine palmetto transferase drops in concentration as you grow older. The Al car can no longer shuttle. Anything into the brain sulfur energy production. And what happens instead of the brain creating energy? It creates a toxin calm ethical actual mythical actual acidifies the brain and accelerates the death of the little blood vessels that nourish your brain. You have trillions a little blood vessels throughout your brain that feed the brain oxygen and vitamins and sugar. And whatever the brain needs to function they called capillaries. And when metabolism and brain starts to slow down and started creating good wholesome energy. The brain starts to create a toxin called Methuselah actual which triggers the formation of lactic acid lactic acid and flames a little blood vessels on the brain and become fragile and they break now typically all of us by the age of seventy have some level of damage to the little blood vessels in our brain is called micro vascular damage, but it's the amount that counts a little bit. So what see? The little blood vessels throughout the body. They don't connect to every. So they connect to a cell and in that self each other cells behind it. Through the Dakota's sus, like a pressure gradient difference. So when the capillary feeds one cell, the no transfer NAT sell kind of bubble into the next Sultan. That's so shall win. One capillary dies. A number of brain shows that a dependent on that capillary for food and oxygen day. Also, die show a few of enough of these little blood vessels dying. It's called micro vascular damage, a few of enough of these blood vessels dying. You've lost a lot of brain cells, and it can reach a tipping point where you fall off the precipice where like it'll contribute to vascular dementia or Lewy body dementia or Alzheimer's dementia or Parkinson's dementia. So.
