"Dmitri's substance. Thanks for being with us. The White House has now joined in the condemnation of Fox News host Tucker Carlson over his recent coverage of the January 6th capitol riot. He has been showing calbert footage away from the hand to hand combat in the destruction that we know happened that day. Administration spokesperson Andrew Bates calls Carlson, not credible. We talk about the rarity of a White House weighing in on such a matter with Washington Post live anchor Lee Ann Caldwell. Tucker Carlson's depiction of what happened January 6th just flies in the face of what Tom manger, the head of capitol police. And everyone that was here saw that day. And so it's an attempt to reset the record straight and to ensure that Tucker Carlson's depiction of it doesn't go unchallenged because let's be clear it was cherry picked and it was in fact false inaccurate. But what's even more interesting that The White House weighing in and Tom manger is how Republicans also are weighing in, you have Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell saying that he agrees with the head of capitol police that it was not a mostly peaceful day that it was in fact other Republicans are saying and insurrection. So this is re brought up the issue of January 6th despite the fact that many Republicans have been saying through the last two years that people need to look forward and not backward, well now people are looking backward again. Relitigating January 6th based on what Tucker Carlson says it was, even though it was not as he says. Based on what we've been discussing, some people may be tempted to say this was a failure on behalf of Fox News and Tucker Carlson. But we also know that many millions of people tune in every night to Fox News not just as their source of information, but you can almost say conservative community center reinforcement of one's beliefs. It does a lot more than just deliver the news. And so are there people that are watching Tucker every night that now believe that this was the way January 6 was? Absolutely. These are January 6th truthers now. Despite the people who have been accused and convicted of crimes that day of entering the capital of the salt and other things, there are people who believe that it was a false flag operation, something that Tucker Carlson has said. There's a large portion of the country that does believe it. And so it does reinforce exactly this thought pattern. And this comes as the same exact time that more details from a lawsuit by dominion voting machines of Fox News is showing that in the days and weeks after the 2020 election that Fox News hosts intentionally misled, their viewers about the accuracy of the election because they were losing viewership more conservative networks. So this tends to be a pattern and there's a large portion of the country who only watches Fox News who will not hear about that lawsuit and will not hear about the controversy about Tucker Carlson's storytelling of that day. "The other question is, why would they? If you're Mark few, would you just say, hey, first off, we're getting one seeds every year. We don't need this. Secondly, if we want to make games in February against great programs, we can do that ourselves. We don't need help. I don't think they can. I think if Gonzaga wanted to, I think if Gonzaga wanted to do a game like they used to do the Memphis game in late February, or middle February, I think they could do that. I mean, Gonzaga's such a big brand at this point. Listen, they're losing two quad one games mentally with BYU going was why I should say this. Like they're losing that. So I don't think that Gonzaga's grip on this is what it's going to be because again, the WCC is going to be downgraded. So Gonzaga, the idea that Gonzaga is going to be positioned to do this. I just, I think that calculus in that league for that program might be changing a little bit. But maybe. The other thing to not just be why you live in the West Coast conference is Houston leaving the American. Yes. So, and then a program like Memphis where, you know, they have an 18,000 seat arena to sell season tickets to. Do you really want to give up schedule control? If you're Memphis, do you just say, hey, we can schedule. If we think it's important for us to play a game in February, outside of our league, we can do that ourselves. That would be my concern is that a program here or there. I don't really think there's an a ten program that's got that kind of power. I don't think there's a mountain west program that's got that kind of power, but Gonzaga and the West Coast, Memphis and the American. These are big brands that they can go get games on their own. And I just wonder if they would be hesitant to get involved with something like this. Again, the last thing coaches want to do with their schedules is give up control. And this would be you voluntarily giving up control. So I would wonder if because I think this would be fine too. Okay, Memphis Can we get the rest of the American involved in it? Okay, Gonzaga doesn't want to be involved in this. Fine, we understand. We'll just can we get the rest of the West Coast Congress to be involved in this? And maybe you lose a program here or there. But ultimately accomplish the same thing. Broadly speaking, I enjoy the story. It was obviously well reported. And I thought the ideas were good. I guess the people who are handling this at the tip top right now are Brian Thornton from the wack. A drew spira from the wack. And Michigan state associate AD, Kevin pauga, you know, all these guys are smart guys. They clearly put a lot of thought in energy and effort into this. Like I said at the top. And I can just leave it there. Usually when I hear about ideas, I want to raise my hand and ask a bunch of questions. When I read all of the ideas that are already in place, there aren't any obvious holes to me. Can you get the leagues and the programs within the leagues to agree to do this? That's the obvious question. And you know, I don't have an answer for that. But it seems like a well thought out idea. And hopefully we'll get some version of it. And then the last thing before we move on, the reason why the timing that story details this as well, the timing on this is good. You can't do it for the upcoming season. College basketball has for the season after this one, there's still so many things that can be maneuvered with the schedule and as paga told me, the final four actually gets scheduled attached to the master, so it depends on how the calendar breaks. And so every, you know, the next two years in a 7 year cycle, college basketball's regular season will actually be one week longer than it normally is because of this. And so the 23 24 and 24, 25 seasons, specifically work as the testing ground for this because you have the flexibility. I think this is actually a major factor that coaches will be like, oh, okay, maybe if you tell me that we have a little more time to move all this stuff around leaks and be like, okay, so you're telling us we can move two league games that would be in February, put them before Christmas. That's actually why this also has a real, real chance. And then if it works, which it will, I guarantee you this will be a home run thing. I guarantee it. It will. Well, some teams go zero two. Yeah, that'll suck, but you know what? Other teams will go two and zero and I do think we'll have a situation where the tournament, the bubble, the discussion will be just that much better. But we'll wait and see what happens. It's an exciting potential endeavor. If you ever read the story yet, you can find it CBS sports dot com that CBS sports dot com. John calipari made some public comments about name image and likeness this week. We're going to get into that next, but first, a word from our sponsors. John calbert made some public comments about name image and likeness this week. I gather some Kentucky fans are growing little restless because the wildcats a were terrible two years ago. B were upset by Saint Peter's in the first round of the NCAA tournament earlier. This year, C are getting out recruited by duke both in class of 2022 and 23 and D just lost assistant Jay Lucas to John Shire's blue Devils. And so I guess John felt compelled to address how UK is handling name image and likeness opportunities after a staff member TJ beisner tweeted that quote, Kentucky's program has and continues to be ahead of everyone else. John subsequently added, I pushed for NIL for ten years publicly and no one is more supportive, which is why our players are making more money than anyone the right way. NIL won't hurt us and has it for any kid we've really wanted if NCAA or federal government makes changes. Will adapt and continue to lead. What did you.

I appreciate it. Thank you so much Happy for a happy fourth to you. Thank you for giving me a piece of this holiday weekend. I really do appreciate that. Here's a deal. I don't you them use them because I get so many complaints in my office and trying to unwind an issue with a P two p problem is all but impossible. Yeah. I mean, these asked are, you know convenient for a lot of people. I do use them. I find them very convenient to, you know, use them when I go out to dinner with friends and one of us pays and the rest of us used, you know, Ben Moh to pay them back, and I've actually been, you know, using them more and more with vendors like getting married this year and I've been using them but it is true. They don't come without problems. Yeah. Um, yeah. I shouldn't say I never use them. I use them with my Children. But I use them sparingly. I'm just very concerned. What kind of complaints? Are you sing? And what are the issues? Yeah. So bottom line. The biggest problem is with these digital payment apps. You have to remember their instantaneous and they're generally irreversible. And so that can lead to errors like accidentally typing a friend's username and wrong and sending money to the wrong person. Or, you know, potentially scammers to we've seen people complain that they were requested money from someone you know, acting like they were a friend, but you know, turned out to just be a scammer. So you know, we have seen an increase in complaints. We had a person we worked with. And, uh, that they complained to my consumer unit and then sent the money to the wrong person They identified who the wrong person was in the wrong person wouldn't deal with them. The company wouldn't help them and how we did it eventually was. I just called them and they knew my voice and I knew my work and they just said, you know, we just thought everybody was the person who got the money. Just thought he was being stamped. So he was, um so It's just not easy. Yeah, And that's why we we really need to see more from the companies themselves to make it easier for consumers to be able to get their money back if they made a mistake, even if it was the consumer that initiated the payment if there was an error or even fraud, you know, we think that these APP companies need to investigate these errors. And, you know work to help people get their money back, if you know, even if they were the ones to make that error. They pretty much won't they don't want to be involved in that. Am I correct? I mean, we're seeing them start to pay more and more attention to you know these issues? Um, I think it's the just increase the complaints. And now people are going to the PSDB, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, right. So Calbert this year released a report that shows that there's been an increase and complaints to the Cfpb B and you know that is starting to get, I think more and more attention from these companies. They're getting the Why are the companies moving? Because the federal government is now taking an interest in it. And or is it because we now have a Democrat in the presidential office and be like Why? Why? Why now? I think it's just consumer pressure. I mean, people are starting to move away from these apps. You know if they feel like they're not getting the attention that they need, um and so I think that's really You know what it comes down to with people are, you know, making complaints? You know, saying that they need action, and they're starting to listen, which is good, but we need we need more. We need more action And when we're at hell burger are doing is calling on the C F P B to force these payment apps to provide better customer service. And ensure that you know consumers are protected when they're defrauded, Um, in particular. So what rules should the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Institute So right now, One of the problems is that currently consumer initiated transactions are exempt from the electronic sponge Transfer Act. Um, your definition of unauthorized charges. It's basically not considered enough authorized charge. If you're the one who hits the buttons right that it needs to be change, right Boy. That's convenient that if it's a consumer, it's like, uh You know, pound sand, and if it's that corporation will jump right on it, huh? Yeah, And I will say there are there aren't things that consumers can do to also, you know, protect themselves using these apps. So our report also goes through some kits for consumers, Um, you know, while obviously you know, going through this process of getting the C f P b to take action. No need to wait right? There are things that you can do also to just, you know, Be careful. Um, when you think he's absent to send money to friends, etcetera. So how do I protect myself? What do you tell people to do when they complain to you guys? Where Trump. I'm sure you get occasional complaints or you talk to those who have had a complaint. What do you tell them to do from here on out? How do we protect ourselves under the current environment? Yeah, definitely. Um, there are a few things you recommend the first just remember that using these peer to peer digital apps are like spending cash so really only use them her friends or, you know, people that you trust The other thing that you can do is if you're sending money to a particular person for the first time through one of these apps, even if you know them, send them a dollar initially before doing the full request to make sure you got their user name, right? I mean, that's what we see is a lot of times. People think they're sending money to a friend, but they typed in, You know, one letter wrong in the user name and it goes to the wrong person. So you know you could do that first is to make sure you have the correct username. And then there are things that you can also do when it comes to just setting up your accounts properly. Um, to make sure that your you know, using all of the privacy setting, you know, security options available. Some of these apps make information about your transactions and your friends public by default, So there's a kind of social element to them. But you could change that, sir. Private, which we recommend. And then one other recommendation is that you can keep a separate bank account to link to the payment apps and not link it to your primary account balance. Yeah, um, And then even better is if you connect it to a credit card rather than a debit card because credit cards just Have stronger protections, you know, because it's with the money is with the bank, and there's a stronger you know federal protections for using credit cards,.
