"Thank you cal. In just a moment, a guide you through closing meditation. Fest though I want to acknowledge salesforce sponsorship of Meditative Story. While you may know them for their role in being companies and customers together. SALESFORCE also works to improve the state of the world. Sharing the stories of leaders who are making positive changes. With grateful to them for making meditative story possible. Knowing the cow, we'll be sharing his story. I watched the footage from that game where he broke the record for consecutive appearances it's quite a thing. Twenty two minutes of the crowd celebrating his achievement. One Minute for every hundred games to break the record. COW SHAKING HANDS WITH FANS. Hugging friends. Smiling. Smiling. A celebration of showing up. A celebration of always being there present. No matter what. It's made me wonder if you'd like to try something with me for our practice together. It's a bit different to other meditations. We've done so far this season. But let's give it a go. Let's play. Twenty two seconds. One second for every hundred kms cal ripken junior played back to back to break the record. Twenty two seconds. Let your attention be relaxed. Alert and bright by CAL third base. And showing up. Showing up for whatever is in the mind and in the body. Showing up for Tabah comes into our awareness? Okay, how was that? Twenty seconds can feel like a long time or it can feel like no time tool. Either way we set. Breathe. Feel your body. Feel the temperature of around you and your skin. And like CAL will go again. Twenty two seconds seeing what happens. Knowing what is happening while it's happening? That's my favorite definition of mindfulness. Twenty two seconds of showing up. Of being here. Welcome back. Okay for this last lab instead of going into the twenty two seconds with intentional bright awareness. That switch. It up. To. Celebration. Bring to mind a time when you did something. Amazing. Something worth celebrating. Or bring to mind the positive quality people tend to associate with you. The most for me, it's being easy going. What is it for you? Letting. Go of any self judgment that might be here right now. And choosing something within you to celebrate. And enjoying the.

Hey look let's be honest with you of when the Tom. Nfl Story is either the fact that the jets did sign Frank Gore for just a little over a million dollars on one hand and the fact that the NFL is considering allowing teams to raise their debt limit right based on the fact that we might be playing without fans this fall and the NFL. That's where we that's where we're going to go down a little bit of a yesteryear wormhole and our first guest. Today is cal ripken junior who is going to be joining us to be talking about his ironman performance with Gordon Ramsay. Tonight's twenty four hours to hell and back on Fox yet. That's right. Cal ripken junior. Spending time with Gordon. Ramsay content. I didn't know I need it. I know CAL ripken. One of my favorite people that I've gotten to meet over the years He will be I up. And then we go down the last dance wormhole with Rod. Thorn the man who drafted Michael Jordan. The man who apparently told Michael Jordan. You're on the Dream Team. You WanNa play Barcelona what do you think? And then the conversation that went back and forth. I still want a direct answer. Who told Isaiah Thomas? He's not in or is he still waiting for the first thing. Just hasn't The Very Popular Chris. Jericho of all elite wrestling will be joining us. The top of our final hour with our friend Nick and right after him at two twenty pm eastern time right here on the rich Eisen Show. We are still. We are still waiting okay. We are still waiting right now. For the details of what was reported yesterday and then confirmed by our friend Charlie Blackmon of the Colorado rockies when he was on this program yesterday calling in from his shelter in place in Denver Colorado and we did ask them to send a photograph of himself With his beard he did do that. He's working I don't put it out. He put it out on his His twitter handle. We put out our twitter handle as well at richeisenshow any Charlie Blackmon said that. Yes we're going to hear from Major League Baseball Management. The we being the players union on Tuesday today is Tuesday. We had John Paul Morosi of MLB network on in our first hour on our youtube dot com slash richeisenshow livestream version of this program. And he said that the details are still murky but the conversation is going on between baseball and the players association and money is being discussed and compensation but that eventually is all just going to be worked out. 'cause he does not believe than anybody in baseball. Players or management side is going to scuttle the possibility of playing this over money. It'll be a public health issue. That will either determine the ornate here and you know the question is what are the players willing to do. Because that's what it all comes down to. Nothing's going to be one hundred percent perfect even if they do have point of care testing that we might if we are so fortunate to have a baseball season. We may get to the point where we're talking about lineup. Cards or not out yet. Because the covert nineteen tests for today have not been yet returned from whatever lab? They are going to get the test results back yet. So we're waiting on the lineup card. You know I'm not being flipping here when I'm saying you know the shortstop of today's game at a temperature of ninety nine point eight and we're trying to see if that determines whether he can play or not. I mean seriously. This is what we might get to. Nothing's GonNa be hundred percent foolproof. What are the players willing to do? I ask Charlie blackmon yesterday. Is He willing to quarantine? Is He a player in baseball? Who's willing to basically say to his wife to his family audios for the next several months. I'm going to play baseball. This is what baseball players may be asked to do. Guys around the League worked so hard to get here. If you were to say all we have to do to play baseball is quarantine. You're like you know that I'm not linked that night that that's you know I'm quarantining right now. I mean I'm I'm doing everything I can do to stay healthy healthy and safe and not spread this to my teammates. I mean it's it's not something we have already been on definitely prepared to do Charlie black prepared to do it. Some might not be some might be people without I mean Morosi again of MLB network said That there are some players who have wives who are about to give birth. They're not willing to miss that. And that's totally understandable. Not Missing the birth child. Because you're going to be playing baseball. 'cause you're in quarantine? I totally understand that and the question is do you wait for the birth of your kid and then once that happens do you then potentially go under quarantine to play baseball again. These are the questions that we're going to be having and then black men in terms of quarantining You Sodas Beer. Looks like when it's in full bloom during a baseball season? He said he had yet to groom. There it is for all our NBC N. viewers who heard him yesterday said he would send us a photograph. Bless him by the way Laureus. Here's a guy who's not concerned about whether a gym is going to be opened as an essential business or not. Soon look at that. Look at that setup. Data be at his house right. It's I'm assuming phenomenal home gym. I'll tell you what man when I was walking around and then when I was walking around Dion Sanders House with any moons ago. You were there when we were doing Thursday night football when we launched Thursday night football for NFL network before the League partnered up with others including NBC. Did it for a couple years. Dion would invite us to his house and there was a game in Dallas. His house was like a mixture between the Bellagio hotel and Dave and buster's at that's just a grandiose beautiful grandiose okay and then a bowling alley and a. I think it was a full court basketball. Yeah like then. Many took us into Closet which was took us into his closet which was walking into a room. I'll forget they'll never you walk into this room and it's suits. As far as the I can see. I mean like the men's warehouse right literally and then you'd make a left and see more suits. Yes and at the end of that left turn was a spiral staircase. That went up one floor and it was shoes is far as the I can see. And you look down and you could see that suits. Because the floor was see-through plexiglas. I asked why he said so. You could hold up the shoes over the suit. He wanted to wear to see if it could match make sense walking out the door Marshal Foch fellow future first ballot hall of Famer Like Dion. Mutters his breath. This is baseball money. Never Forget it. I was beginning to give I. I laughed I gave Dion a little bit of grief for probably being dead money on the Cincinnati Reds Payroll. Still at that point in time. Any rate CAL ripken. Junior is going to be on two and I got another. I mean. Let's not forget because that's by the way one of the next. Espn documentaries coming out. Right IN JUNE. Which is the McGuire? So-so can't wait for that the long years on summer. Okay which mom prepared to see me with hair all going to be all over because you know and I'll I'll download. You would stories for that too because you remember. Maguire is the one who faxed me a resignation retirement. Pardon me he retired from baseball and I broke that news during halftime of a of an NFL Sunday night on on Espn Long Summers. The name of that document. I mean I was in the middle of all that Man Fox. It was amazing. I was in the middle of all that covering that for. Espn back in the day. And I'm sure mcgwire and Sosa and rightfully so we'll get credited for bringing baseball back from the did stripe. This Guy Ripken was first though. Yeah when Cao broke the record for the iron man streak Lou Gehrig and you remember when he went running. He did the lap around getting goosebumps. Destroying the lap. Around Camden yards. Had to be talked into doing it. I just watch. Mlb Network had a documentary about this. On the other day I was just watching Rafael. Palmeiro and another another oil teammate. Had to kind of force him out of the Dugout to take the lap. That was the first moment that we're like okay. I know you blew off the ninety four season and I know that the idea of using replacement players was thrown out. There did lead apparently to Jordan's comeback and BA basketball though one good thing came ripken's lap around cannon yards. I will never forget that I will never ever ever forget that. And just because I I you know I spent I spent the spring of ninety five in the DC area because that's where the northwestern school of journalism wrapped up. And I just remember being surrounded by owes fans and how what it meant to everybody in that area and then just seeing nationally and then cal retiring. Do ask him about the cookie. That Channel Park throw in all star game at that growth will now when a cookie is served up also ahead of you still must hit. Which is what we were talking about. Just a few months ago even though it feels like fifteen years ago when the baseball story Du Jour was the Astros cheating scandal. Even though you know when something's coming you still have to hit it a third of the but they're even going to be. I here one out of four here on the rich. "Question got a stat of the day. GotTa play of the day. Got a lot of things to talk about mclovin. What are you sitting on today? Okay we'll Paulie at a fun. Tom Brady Howard Stern poll that I'll let him share okay. If you could get an honest take from Tom. Brady where an honest conversation where it gives you everything on a topic bill. Belichick Giselle Deflate Gate. Robert Kraft other where a series of questions where it's completely honest. And he gives you everything you know like a chunk of the interview is just like I want to hear this part the fact that it's Howard stern I would say Giselle. But that's just because it's Howard I would. I would want to know about Bella check. I would want to know how deep that disappointment or animosity. Anger frustration whatever that might be. I think that that's that's what I would wanna know because that always that always fascinate me. That bell check is not going to dish on that. And maybe Tom Does. But then Tom it feels like toms already onto Tampa Bay. You know why do that because then it just starts the new cycle back up again. And you're going to be then you go to Bella Chac and Bella checks his saying and then people in Tampa are GONNA ask Tom. About this the next time he gets in front of the media there but probably Bella check because I still go back to not have to be best friends with the quarterback and the coach. I don't know Dan Marino's relationship with Don Shula. I got impression. It was a deep respect for one another in appreciation. I just I don't know if you can play that position. Be around somebody that amount of time but be uncomfortable around that person and that's what I always felt. That Brady was uncomfortable around Bella check and maybe vice versa but brady in particular Chuck Knoll and Terry Bradshaw famously. Did Not get along and you know Terry had issues with how he was coached by Chuck. No but that's that's not even close to twenty years that you're spending with somebody twenty years where you show up and you know it's going to be the same guy acting the same way no matter if I won a super bowl. Mvp or you know. We got bounced in the second round of the playoffs. It doesn't matter to him and I'm trying to think of other quarterback I drew brees and Sean Payton. They have great respect and admiration probably a friendship. That's that's pretty good peyton manning. Peyton and Tony Dungy. Great relationship their friends. Do you have the Falcon Uniform Paulie? Yeah and Oh boy the width all know. Oh boy their face. Look Very Any given Sunday say it's right out of a movie. It looks like the movie any given Sunday. There's some white on white's with at L. instead of Atlanta Falcons over the number then they have a red black uniform where the red transitions into black. Like the Jaguars Helmets. No it's not working. But then on the right they have a clean looking kind of eighties version. Where IT'S BLACK JERSEY. White Pants Red Black Stripe and nice great socks kind of the William Andrews type era. Doesn't it feel like the second uniform is going to be Tampa? Bay buccaneers esque. Yeah it sort of looks like they borrowed the buccaneers old crappy numbers to repurpose them. That's yeah you throw in a mixture of the Jaguars in the buccaneers. And you've got the new Falcon uniforms here. The rams gotta be happy about this. Yeah Paulie and they have Matt Ryan in black on black uniform of black socks tough look. I'm a big Matt Ryan Fan. But he is not going to intimidate me with a black uniform. He does not look like a talk. He looks like a great father and a really good quarterback. What are the questions? We're looking at today. Mclovin okay on Tom Brady is. He ended up career more. Joe Montana playoff run with the chiefs. Or Joe Namath. Sort of lost with the La Rams. Oh Joe Montana Joe. Nemeth wasn't healthy. I mean it's not a fair comparison but we never those guys Adam Smith. We never expected them to fail. We always thought they go to their last team and do well well running back at that age joining a new team. You can't expect much out of him but Joe Nathan was not healthy. I don't remember okay. I don't remember US thinking it was going to bomb their zone. I thought they paid him a ton of money. Well Yeah but they probably wanted some somebody to make them relevant nobody. Nobody cared about him and then having Emmett there the all time leading rusher how about China. United's for the chargers was any today. I don't remember that at all. Did that do anything. Within which say it's fair to say most guys flame out there but they're joining somebody in the twilight of their careers. How many have something left late in their careers where they're going to actually make an impact there? Those guys are five years younger than Tom Brady. Why hasn't Tom Brady well? Joe Named Joe. Name had knee issues when he was in college. Joe is a very athletic quarterback at Alabama then he had the knee surgeries and then he became one of the great pocket passer but and he didn't take care of himself off the field. Thomas Take Care of himself off the field. He's made a business out of this. That's true yeah. And by the way police FO- question. You said that you get an honest answer. Isn't deflate gate. The obvious answer them because then we get an honest answer from Tom. But I don't Howard. I don't think Howard Stern is going to be interested in deflate gate as much as he is still now if Tom was going to be on this show and we could ask whatever we wanted to. Then I'd I'd want to know about deflate gate okay. I was thinking this was like a truth. Serum poll question but Howard Question. Well Paulie is saying it. Look if you get a totally honest answer from Tom Brady on the Howard Stern show it would be about. Giselle not deflate gate on this show it would be either about. What is your relationship? You know really like you know. How would you describe your relationship with Bella Jack Deflategate I would just WANNA know? Walk me through how you deflated. The footballs illegal way. Or what an illegal way. Tell me about the deflator. And who gave him that name and did you think about giving him a different name than the deflator great? Like Howard or anyone asks Brady wasn't silly to have a rule whatsoever around football's because all you guys had equal opportunity to fill them up or take them out the air out as much as you like would be fair to everybody. Isn't it a dumb rule? Is that why you did it? Start there maybe like yeah. It was a dumb role. And that's why we did our way. And we've I've said that that it is. I believe that the quarterback should be able to have a football to his liking competitive advantage. That you have here Aaron Rodgers once at a little bit firmer. Fine I mean to me I look at it like sleep number. You know my sleep number mattress. I have my firmness and I should be able to have whatever I want with my mattress in my football. And that's what they should let these quarterbacks to their the one if you say here Peyton Manning. Here's your football Tom. Here's your football that's it. There's not a big deal but you know what happened behind the scenes is what made it worse. It's a silly rule. But if you if you're lying about it then you pay the price there. And that's what happened but I don't think Howard is going to be as curious about deflate. Gate is Jill. I think Howard is a man of science and understands that that garbage anyway. So why waste time. I still love the fact that Bella check did not have his back through that as much as he should of or Robert Kraft. I don't know I felt like they were like Tom was. What was the movie that George Clooney is in where he's floating in space is he was Sandra. Bullock is that the hot astronauts and space. Something like that. What's that movie where he acts like? He's Dean Martin drinking all the time and then he floats off into space at the very end. That's what I always felt like Brady was sort of out there floating in space and then all of a sudden he realized that the umbilical cord had been cut. He was like I. Do you guys remember that movie gravity? I don't know maybe of Apollo something. Why wasn't that Spanish director? Who did this hot? Astronauts and space is a much thought astronauts and space sounded. Ally saw that that was on. I think I saw that. It was porn hub and I think you know common. Yeah now. He just turned into the stern show to take a break cleaned. That have CAL ripken. Yeah that's true. It's called gravity okay. Grab it is is Sandra bullock in that. Oh Yeah Sandra Bullock Andrew Vertically. Okay God I started off with Muravich from nineteen seventy seven and I ended up with gravity. How do we do it? We'll take a break by the way mayor mich only twice. Here's what I'll wait now. Wait on this I. Vanity Fair, Annie Liebowitz And Keri discussed on Jason and Alexis
"Vanity Fair? Just dropped. A giant cover story on Star Wars. The rise of Skywalker. Beautiful pictures by Annie liebowitz of the cast, including Cal Ripken. And girl. I was quickly reading stuff through all the commercial breaks. They revealed a lot more than I thought they would reveal Lum. They confirmed that Jj Abrams. Good friend, and miss Felicity herself, Keri, Russell is in this movie. Rumors that she was ended there. She couldn't confirm it. Well, Vanity Fair, confirmed it and even showed her costume. It is a kick costume. She plays hold on a minute. It's a cool name to her costume is awesome. Let's see here there. She is. She plays a bad guy. She is a K. Russell masked scoundrel by the way. That's also what we call dawn masked, scoundrel, Zora, bliss who Zoe bliss and her mask is awesome. I want that mask. They also confirm that Kylo Ren. And Ray may have a deeper connection than has been previously revealed. Oh, which I'm shocked Vanity Fair wrote that hill. Richard E grant, people love him. He is a general. He's a bad guy. And now I'm really going out. And then I'll stop because mytalkers if you're not a nerd, you're like white Don, you'll love this. It is confirmed that the knights of Ren are in this movie there. The thought there, the elite guard that was mentioned in the force awakens. So they're in this to their favor. They've revealed some planets. Yeah. It's it's that's a lot. I'm shocked. And I know you're not a nerdy, rolling your eyes going. I don't understand the big deal. They are usually so secretive, but they gave a lot of details of light, basically what we can expect, and it's a lot, and they show a they even have a picture of the final lightsaber scene between Tyler and Ray it looks like they're in a body of water on crashed there on top of like a tie crashed typhi ter-. Oh, wow. They are showing a lot. They're showing the law, which are are beautiful, and Billy Dee Williams. Looks amazing shot of him in the cockpit of the millennium falcon. Annie liebowitz is so amazing. She's such a good photographer. Yeah. Oh, I'm just beyond

"Boys and Girls Club and, and really go through our programs. You might not see the real benefit of that, until they start to, to look back on, on why they why they became who they became when I go to the hall of fame each year, the most interesting parts and sometimes they're long is the new inductees speeches and embarrassingly. They always look back and thanked people in their lives that help them along the way and their coaches, and so we're creating sort of that coaching relationship on the four profit side, and also on the on the not for profit side, and some of those benefits you don't really realize until you starting to sit down and think about, you know, if it hadn't been for this person. I wouldn't have taken this direction live. So last time that you're in, I spared you all this information in the actual interview, but then I bugged you with it after the interview I showed you that let's put it on the record this time that's on the record this time at the back of my little league. Baseball card says favorite player Cal Ripken junior. I told you that my AM screen name was see, Ripken, two one three one x eight thousand actual AM screen him in middle school. As As then I then still I use still that. use that. AM. I think it died last year. Did it last year at died last year? If it didn't about more of the password, so for you. I mean, like as I've obviously consumed a lot of your interviews and, and done. My research on everything, but just show up is a play on obviously the streak, and I've never heard you sort of talk about this. Where was there ever a point where you didn't want? Your legacy to be defined by just the streak because at the top of the interview I listed off all of your accolades. You even didn't mention the three thousand hits, excellent all-time baseball player, did you want to be known as a hey? I just played. Because in theory if you're healthy enough, there's a guy maybe out there that good just you obviously have to be good enough to be in the lineup everyday for that long. But for you even without the streak. You're a hall of Famer year legend in the game of baseball. Would you rather be defined by the statistical numbers the streak? What, what is it for you where it's like at the end of the day, I would pick that over that, you know, I was asking those questions in my yet last year after the streak was was broken, you know about what you want to be known for what you how do you want to be remembered and all that. And quite frankly, I never wanted to set my own legacy. There was wasn't a plan to say. This is you do what you do. And then at the end you look back and somebody else captures your legacy. And so it's one of those things that I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about it. And I know why they ask is that they think the streak would overshadow your compliments or the player you were. But I think when you look at a player on the team, I think one of the most complimentary things somebody can say about you as a player as your gamer. Yeah. And when a gamer means you're willing to come to the ballpark. No matter what happened yesterday. Or what happened late last night when you went into extra innings, and now you gotta turn around and play a day game against Roger Clemens. Whatever the challenge may be you come to the ballpark has one of the members of the team to meet that challenge..

"Eighty three World Series champion hall of Famer the iron man, my favorite baseball player of all time. Cal Ripken junior certainly did to me right to it. So now, though you look back on it. That's all you have now is to look back on it. So when you played people said, well, what do you think of this accomplishment of that one? And I would say, well, let me wait until I retire then sitting the rocket chair remember now I'm in that rocking chair all. So how many books you is this twelve thirteen we were trying to count that up earlier today. I think it's in the neighbor to fourteen. So now next time. He come in when you're when you're three time guests will now add three time guests. And then what albuque- fourteen time author, so this book that I'm held holding right here just show up. And this is more of like a life lesson because I mean, you've written about baseball extensively, this book, in particular, more of a life lesson book where I think for you, you know you. You have a lot more experience than me, but I think baseball is universal language where you can apply it to life lessons. How did you do that in this book? Well, my dad had a really great skill at talking about life, using baseball, examples and baseball terminology. And, and it was really easy for us to understand. And it was almost like. What's the book out there? Thomas Boswell had a book life imitates the World Series. It was sort of a long, those things if there was something to happen to school, or you had a bully or something, dad would bring something that happened on the baseball field and start to bring it into context. So I think the book if I really had to try to describe it I had twenty one years as big league player and, and by having twenty one years, I retired at forty one. Yeah. And so I always thought, what was next? You know, even when I played, I started to think what was next and now I'm inching up, there almost in twenty years of business. Experience made a lot of mistakes, and learn from those mistakes and, and have successful businesses. And if you really want to look at it. Our kids kids business is we're probably the leading youth baseball organization in the country, and we're looking to expand right now so we have three complexes that do really well and we're looking to expand in many areas, the foul. Dacian named after my dad is another business component even though it's the nonprofit it's grown all the way across the country. It's a national foundation. We've built eighty four fields now at an average of about a million or a million to in really tough areas. And we help about a million five kids a year. Yeah. And so, so it's, it's significant. So there's lessons that you learn along the way in both those areas that sometimes I dropped my baseball expertise and some of the principles that worked. And so the book is kind of fun kinda toggles back and forth. Now that I've had a little bit more experience. You can put business principles and baseball principles together. So we've seen guys hall of famers that after their playing days are done. They either disassociate with baseball entirely, or they go into business in that business has nothing to do at baseball. How important was it for you for how important was it for you? That life after baseball still was baseball. Well, I think I what was coming..

No, no, no, no, hold on a second. Stop everything. We're doing okay, including the sandy greenie goes up. Yes. It was like the first thing he did before he went on TV get out of here. He talks about all the time. Like a nose job. Listen, this is one of my best friends, and I had no idea about this. You mean the first time you went on TV at ESPN or just first time in general. I think first time in general, but he always says he got a rhino plastic. So people don't know what he's talking about. That's a nose job whenever someone says have you ever broken bone in your body? He says yes voluntarily and he's talking about his nose. And what's it called? What's the big word of the rhino plastic? That's the Hetty play. I mean, you know, when you don't wanna tell anyone that you said knows jet. You gotta nose job. He just say riot blast go it. I'll do my fourth and fifth. I feel like up. So I'll I'll do to you can have the hammer you're going four I'll go four five. Okay. Cal Ripken junior. A wow Jesus Christ. I mean, the guy played four thousand some odd baseball games in a row to the detriment of his team's totally selfish guy Cal Ripken. But I would like to have them on the podcast get him on kind of a compiler kind of a compiler. I mean when you look up the work of piler in the dictionary, what pops up is Cal Ripken junior's face thought, it was Craig busy. I'll get to him. But I don't have time it's up to the bees. So who's your fifth year? What's your Fifth Corps, my fifth Sergio Garcia? Wow. Sergio masters champion. I mean, he choked at a bunch of other majors, but he's a masters champion. That's right. So I mean stands there's no way I can't win. I again, I'm just gonna play mine randomly get more thought to this. The next time we play because I think the next time we play there should be stakes attached to it. I have. All right. So here's my fifth. Hopefully, this will put me over the top. I have Bob sag. "So h shows based on the following characters Landau Cal Ripken Kira from solo star. We're story fin PO Damran young Princess laya, captain fazah rose Tico the night. Of Ren and something called Darth bane, which I've never heard of before this. But is apparently a character who is mentioned in one of the Star Wars, I guess novels and then appeared briefly in the clone wars he was voiced by Mark Hamill? He's like an ancient sift character. So yes, that is the the latest rumor is that all of these characters have shows in the early early stages of development. I I don't have any of this true.

"I big thanks to Cal Ripken junior for swinging on by barstool H Q doing the interview with us here on starting nine. I just got to ask you keep your Boehner out of his face for the entire view, very strategic angle. So not to kept asking me as like is that a wallet? And I was like, yeah. My fucking wallet paid here dog. There's a permanent dent in the under side of the table. Yeah. Yeah. I keep the pocket on the inside of the leg. It's new no one else is doing it. Revolutionary. Guys wanna step on the mound for a second. I would love to it's where I feel most comfortable the Cy youngs. We have not yet had a unanimous one. I feel like we're cruising towards that. Yeah. I'd love to hear the argument. Otherwise for this one NL Cy Young Jacob degrom, New York. Mets max sherzer Washington. Nationals Aaron Nola Philadelphia Phillies. Jared will start with you who you got Jacob degrom. Yes, indeed is going to be our first unanimous decision for any award. He is the National League Cy Young award winner. He was the best pitcher in the National League from start to finish. It's a God damn shame that he was on a dumpster fire of a team because I would have loved to have seen what what type of body a work. He would have put together in October. We were robbed of that as baseball fans because of the Mets incompetence, but regardless of that that's just a personal gripe of mine. Jacob degrom is your twenty eight. Eighteen National League Cy Young award winner. And there's no argument to be heard against that fact. Wow. Is your two thousand eighteen Felix of two thousand and ten who went thirteen and twelve to two seven and brought home the E R brought home the Cy Young hardware. So this is degrom. There's really no question about it in any other year. It would be max Scherzer and there'd be no question about that. I don't think. But this is just this is this is a historical years historical feet. And that's what gets you it gets you fucking hardware, baby. So Jacob as my man peak on would say little d Graham Jacob swing in his big degrom alot of that got damn mound is your NL Cy Young award. We should have p kind on it and suggests during the offseason. Yes, we will. We will feature America's favorite nut. You guys wanna fuck it. Hot and fresh nugget. Any type of j just dropping out of the sky. You know, it's gonna be juicy right out of that basket dig roms Yara was one point seven zero. Yeah. Crazy to say out loud. His fifth was one point nine nine. Okay. That's that's ludicrous. That's made me to Chris, maybe even crazier. Exactly. That's fucking. So let me read you the list of the people who've complained the live ball era. Yeah. Who have posted a sub two and a sub to fifth in the same season. Okay. Wow. Degrom this year Clayton Kershaw in twenty fourteen which is maybe his his greatest achievement yet. Tom Seaver in nineteen seventy-one. Bob Gibson, nineteen sixty eight. They're getting older sandy Colfax sixty three. How do Houser who might not ring the same way with listeners, but go look up fucking how new Hauser stats for a second. Okay. In nineteen forty six. Okay. K through two hundred ninety through two and two thirds innings with a one nine four that year because Bob feller was off in the war. And that's it. That's it in the live ball era new houses all famous too, by the way, just to be clear. That's it in a lie ball era. If you go back to the teens, it's just all seasons from Pete Alexander and Walter Johnson like. Those are the only people who have done what Jacob degrom did. Which in a sense was have tremendous results. And also have those results be supported by all of the underlying numbers. Yeah. Like, you just this is the biggest it doesn't matter. How shitty? My team was. I was awesome. And normally I would never I don't like citing fifth in awards because the awards are what did you do? Right. It's not necessarily. How should we protect your way? Yeah. But that's just so impressive. That I really everything did align for Jacob degrom. And there's like nothing to take away from his season. Like, I still think that v is useful for something..

"Was there was there a second county overly Google? Search moving worth question is that junior die you that movie? Dave where they had a second president that took. Did you have some guy that looked like you that took over like halfway through the street? You really did a commercial like that at one point. I can't remember who it was for your live evil, twin tell me something that only the real Cal Ripken window. You made me laugh a little bit on that question. Obviously. He's not you can't answer that question. But Jose Jose censor the dead question. Yeah. I'm alive. Okay. I'm alive. But about that. But I mean. Jose may. So it was a team mate of mine and he used to always call me Cal Ripken senior. Because because I'd always ask him. I said, you know, there's no way that you're twenty six or twenty five. I mean, you're you lied on your birth certificate. We'd go back and forth. And he would always counter with calling me coury senior got it. And so since I lost my dad about nineteen nineteen years ago. It would be interesting how how Mesa would look at that. Now. Okay. So we'll have to talk to Jose Mesa. We'll confirm that story. And then we will confirm that you are in fact, a library. Okay. Cool donder. Okay. You brought up John Regan's a second ago. And he was like he was a legend at the time. You know, when you were playing you ever like go party with him a couple of beverages. Sure, I drank a couple beers with them. But I. That's just your when you're a normal event. I know the there were no normal when we won the World Series. We won the World Series eighty three. I think the Redskins won the Super Bowl eighty three. And so they had a couple of years in a row. I remember sitting in between Dave Butz and Joe Jacobi Joji Manabe too. Big too. Big guys three hundred twenty pound guys and Regan's was there as well. So they were celebrating their World Series championship in the off season. When we when we were celebrating our so put us in the same and in the same place many times. So you know, to me John is real, you know, he's a he's a real football player. Matter of fact, and kind of blunt and honest the same time. So I always enjoyed being around him and talking to him would he remember hanging out with you during that offseason? If I were to say, hey, John, remember hanging out of Colorado. Or is that just like a big thing? Well, I think we'd have to define what hanging out is. Conversations with them or do we actually go out? Would you say we're hanging out right now? I think the length of this interview is yes, we're hanging. We're. Visit. So my last question CK question put him promo code take get ten dollars off for Seekie purchased one. Go to baseball game next year, promo code take. This question's actually not questions. Just it just called. Wow. That was a hell of a year. So Brady Anderson nights ninety six hit fifty home runs. Wow. That was a hell of year. Wouldn't you say Cal while that was a hell of ear? Yeah. It was a healthy year. Over year was a hell of a year best shape of his life. How's it however year there's another more you could say that was a hell of a year a great year? It was a great year. All right Cal. Thank you so much how can people get involved with coward? Gin senior foundation. I mean, the easiest thing is just Google Cal Ripken senior foundation. But the the address is Cal Ripken foundation dot org. Okay. Great. Let's been it's I mean, it's awesome. I mean, you know, baseball fields kids play baseball. There's another more American. It is. It is interesting is our foundation, which if we if I can say for a minute. Yeah. We're not somebody that that feels like we have to get all the credit for doing it. We care about kids. We try to use our position to benefit kids. And we're we partner with anybody. That cares the same and we've done many fields across we don't have to put our name on the field. If you want to build a field. We'll put your name on the field. Okay. In the end is all about how many kids can we help? That's great. That's fantastic. Investing in the future of the game. Because you're making kids better.

"So it's funny is that many people made up stories at he was it was a practical joke, and then they got him pretty good. But the fact of the matter is he wrote it I mean, he used to write things on the bottom of his knob of his bat. So we could find that. Right. And so because bat sit in a big barrel sometimes, and you'd have numbers that all look the same. He would write expressions on it. And the expressions were innocent in the beginning. And then they started to get a little bit bless innocent. And when he grabbed his bat and one of the card companies ask, hey, Billy, can I car a shot for flare or Don Ross or tops. He put his bat on the shoulder, and it took a picture, and it just so happened that the what he wrote became visible to the car. And so I guess we'll dispel any of these rumors. He wrote it I will say though. He used to write in this thin sharpie. Not a thick sharpie. Interesting. But when it was on the car, and it seemed like it was thick very, so I'm wondering if it was if it was a it might have been enhanced for the collectible interesting, and oh, so you might wanna research that you'd think the card company made it more visible. So that they could retract the card, and it would be no. But it might be worth looking into your very well. Like that. Cow. All right. I got a couple of last questions you've written thirty bucks. We had a number of kids books. I don't know thirty is the right number, but quite a few. So you think you're better than us? No, I can't figure out the Catholic. That's a lot of books. Have you written zero? Then you should get get moving. I haven't read thirty bucks. You should get moved sound my brother, Billy. Yeah. I mean, that's you're you're trying to flex on us. So we wrote the kids books are fun. Always to write. We did a couple of instructional books. They've been the funniest one funniest books types to me is you know, we've had some success in business after. Baseball. And so then all of a sudden, they think you're an expert in business. So you're writing books that makes an analogy a baseball and how you apply to business. Yeah. And so a lot of times people communicate in that fashion. And so I only talk baseball. So we we we've written a book. And now we have a second one that we're being asked to do that really is principles of sport. And how they apply to business. Okay. You should actually just become the most the most prolific author of all time. Just do it just break that record ten I would like to to be John Grisham of sorts. Yeah. I'm sure that he makes a whole lot more money from his books, and I make from mine. Yeah. Well, right in a bunch of. Yeah. Right. A bunch of books about lawyers just read them in right? Yes. True tournament of movies option a couple. I don't know if you were going to do any of the people also I do I was I'll let you get to that. Because I just happened to see one when I was. Yeah. So the way that we prep for this interview as we look at your Wikipedia. Yeah. And so then we asked questions based off bring you have a very weird people. Also, so. On Google you go you look. And it says people also ask it's not us asking it's other people asking you have a very weird one. I'll ask you three of them a couple of normal. The like the first one is how old is Cal Ripken today. People are asking that really fifty eight fifty eight. Okay. And then some people are asking how much Cal Ripken's rookie card worth. You know, I don't know. But recently, I was at a one of these memorabilia shows that you show up and my AA card, which was a very rare card because it was the first one ever made it sold for like fifty grand at a at that show. Okay. I was thinking I might have ten or twelve. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. All right. And then this is the weird one. I don't this is people are asking this. When did Cal Ripken junior die? Yeah. So. Are you dead?.

"So well, I don't know if I got burnt out or not there were times. But I always took that as sort of a joke in some ways. I always thought that the your work ethic was always a positive positive impact on the team, not brag, we haven't missed a podcast and like two and a half years ago, which is more impressive. You playing two thousand whatever it is games or us doing like what two hundred podcasts room. My brother. Billy is the gift to gab, and he's actually a successful on MLB network because he's one of them e award for his just pick analysis. So he's big time. And he's he's a he has the gift of gab and sounds like to me you guys have the gift of gab. So it would be much more difficult for me to talk. You know that many times days there are days. Yeah. We're like man, I'm tired. We gotta hit the greenie coffee and the kitchen to get up for it. Yeah. It's tough. It's tough stuff game. So they drug testing. No, it's actually encouraged if your pod. Cast. Can we actually look we got? I don't know how I'm gonna phrases, but PFC, and I have been doing this podcast together for almost three years. Now, we've known each other for about six, and we when we didn't know each other. We just met the first time we ever met. We're having a beer, and we had a lot of times we had parallel thought where people would say, oh that tweet looks like PF tease tweet to me and then vice versa. And when we were sitting there having a beer, we both came up with the theory. Why doesn't anyone talk about Cal Ripken with steroids? Not that you did them because I know you didn't. But it just would be a fun thing to bring up. So I want to I wouldn't think that's a fun fun fun. That was apologizing apologizing ever having got that. Right. It's like a dump thought it's more just a tad. Like, no one's thinking about it. That makes sense. I guess for someone that's been in it. It kind of bothers me that the when they look back said it was the steroid era. Right. And then therefore it kind of takes away your accomplishments during that time from or in comparatively your numbers compared to someone else's numbers. That might have achieved it not the same way. It it makes a light of your accomplishment. So it's always bugged me a little bit. The problem is you don't no one knows the whole story. You know? No one knows when or if they've done it or not. But it still feels makes me feel bad. When you think that people look at the score and think that a large percentage of them was doing it. Did you ever have a moment where you kind of either knew something was going on with some of your teammates? Or maybe some of the guys who are playing with one guy comes back the next season. And he's you know, fifty pounds heavier, and he looks like he can bench press three thousand pounds any moments. Like that where you're like how this is kinda weird something no looking back with the benefit hindsight. They were a few times when you look at it. And you question, you know, how? Hard you worked out in the offseason number. I built a gym in my house. I lived in gym my house, I tried to make gains and you made some gains. And then there were players that you looked at. And he went wait a minute. He's totally different than he was last year. And so you would be suspicious, but no one really knew ram..

"For showing up. Appreciate it. You always, you know, your dependable guide say, right? I used to be dependable. Okay. All right. Well, we'll get into that. But before we do that. I wanna talk quickly about your foundation. The Cal Ripken senior foundation where you are building turf baseball fields across the country. You want to talk a little bit about that. That sounds awesome. Sure. It's. The easy part is when my dad died of lung cancer at sixty three by brother billion. I try to figure out what was his legacy of his life and his legacy of his life was helping kids. I mean help kids get to the big leagues in the form of his job. But he also used baseball to go into these neighborhoods did free clinics to get to get their attention and kind of match them up with mentors that give them a positive direction in life. So we created a foundation called the Cal Ripken saying you foundation where we used just that. It's not a new idea because the magic of sports has been used in that fashion a lot. But we've had a lot of success we've gone from a regional foundation where we're helping hundreds of kids to now national foundation where we're helping last year. I think we have an impact on a million four. That's awesome. And one of the great things that we've done is build these fields. We've built Eighty-one we call them, use development parks all around the country, you sort of in the spirit of baseball. But it's a place to administer programs in. Safe environment. We discovered that many of these places didn't have those places to continue these programs, and we wanted to provide those, and we found that they've been pretty transformational because the synthetic fields are so nice. Sometimes they cost about a million a million four put these in and the community embraces them. Then all of a sudden it pushes the element away that can influence some of the kids, and it gives a protected safe place for the kids to do it. So we're we're very proud of. I never thought we'd be a national foundation. But we were able to help a whole lot more kids results ask, and it's double threat because you get all those tires that would be sent out a junk yard, they get ground up and put it on the field turf. Yeah. So you're reducing plastic waste as well. I'd never thought of it though, saying for that too. I know that we used to build grass and dirt fields and the during the ribbon cutting ceremonies, we cut it. And we'd all be happy and proud of it than if you come back about six months later. It turns back into. Really get on Tom need like a forest Gump guy who just does it as hobby now that he's old enrich together. So you thank you for joining us, by the way. And like I said, you are dependable you're saying, you're not dependable anymore. The iron, man. Yeah. I don't have to live to that schedule anymore where you come to the ballpark one hundred sixty two games and you play every day, I can make my own schedule. Now. So I guess I'm accountable to me. Okay. But I'm not I'm not showing up for work every single day. So your record the most consecutive games played in major league baseball history and sports history. It has to be sports history because you guys play so many games. Do you think it's the most unbreakable record in all sports because I actually I would say it's either that or Joe dimaggio's hit record. Yeah. I agree. My longest hitting streak was sixteen games. And so to think someone could go fifty six games without without going over four is amazing to me. So I think the pressure of the consecutive games hitting streak because of the media and coverage and the scrutiny that creates more pressure..

We have an interview with the Patrick Renna AK ham porter from the San LA, Kendrick, Jack, and I talked him for about fifteen twenty minutes. We don't have that in the middle of this podcast. So she'll be a fun one. Ken Jak admitted to him that he doesn't like the big green or like the big ring wasn't on his top ten list, and it was pretty funny exchange. And then let's move on next bit of news. Slender man, new slender man trailer. We kind of were anti slender man trailer when it first came out. This is a new one opinions changed. You wanna see more. You wanna see a less. I wanna see it even less. I think they're making this fucking movie after this horrific actual real life of that happened, not even half a decade ago. This is like. Exploiting it like another sound soft. You know, whatever. But I think it's stupid. I think just straight up stupid. It's dumb as hell. My opinion has not changed. You need a reference in this specific time code or talked about it before because I don't think we could summarize it any better. Fuck, fuck this movie. And I don't say that a lot. I do not say that a lot in this podcast, you know, I'm very careful with with saying bad about the brands in about the movies, but I just I do not like this movie. I do not like what they're doing with it. It's it's really fucked up. The stabbing was only like four years ago, like you're saying, it's it's necessary. It's not. It's not a famous event where you can whitewashed for the event of what for the profit of movie theater. It's silly like even Billy idea even like patriots day or they call it. The Boston marathon bombing movie, which was in sanely way too early to make a movie like that. There's actually been two of them because there is the stronger one, but that was don't hall on. Yeah, that was that was nice, but even even the patriots won like there was a. There's a positive story behind it. Right? Like the talked about the heroes of it in the moment of crisis. This is not that at all. This is just a fucking horror movie. Yeah, it's just it's, it's truly messed up. I big here. It's really, really easy to be cynical about movies and how movies get made and what movies they put forward. And I agree with a lot of that, and I think we do a good job on this podcast talking about the joys of the movies, but this is one of these where I am just so cynical against this movie, the concept behind it, why it's being made the character. I just I don't like it and it's not all due to what it's based off some of its that, but it also just looks like a crappy movie. And also what's up. I didn't see this new trailer. I didn't watch it because I'm kind of doing a self-imposed imposed a boycott. I'll get to it. Overlord there needs to be no, when the plane explodes, and then there's that affect. In just goes silent. I feel like that's used in so many trailers and an horror movie trailers. And I feel like we need to, we need to name that effect. Okay. Is in the moment to, I believe so plane crashing. Yeah. Okay. So it looked up you to know we're talking about and tweet us. We're going to name that because you know like the Wilhelm scream, you know the one that's always a movies, we'll we'll name it. All right. Lead us. Just try to find it here real quick and we're not going to do the editing, but I just want to play it. So people know this is the first raw podcast. Yeah, time minus splicing in the the interview. We have some point Argos here with us right here that. Put a closer..
