"cal mcnair" Discussed on Mike Gallagher Podcast

"Story out of my mind. I saw a headline last night before I went to bed. Again, the New York Post, pretty reliably conservative tabloid, but it's New York City in New York is kind of a different world unto itself. And I see this headline. The owner of the Texans. Cal mcnair used a racist slur at a charity golf tournament back in May. I thought, oh gosh, what did he say? What do you mean? What does that mean? Headline Texans owner Cal mcnair used anti Asian slur. During team golf event, this happened back in May. Cal mcnair wrapping up his remarks with according to a report at bally sports using a racist slur. And I'm thinking, gosh, that's tough. That's hurtful. That's hateful. One witness told a reporter, Michael silver, everyone gashed. Especially the people directly across from him. He and his wife seemed to think it was hilarious. It was dead silent. And then the article goes on to list scandals that his father had been involved in. His late father, who evidently used the phrase, you can't have the inmates running the prison. Referring to player protests about police brutality. I use that expression all the time. You can't have the inmates running the asylum. You can't have the inmates running the prison. I never thought of that as a slur. Or an attack. Certainly not racist. It's an expression that we've used for everybody uses. But back to Cal mcnair, I'm thinking, what did he do to use a terrible name to call you some racial horrible, you know, attack? Here's what he said. In fact, if you're driving, you might want to pull the car over to the side of the road. Because this is awful. You're going to be so shocked. At this monster, Cal mcnair, the owner, of the Texans, you're going to be so mortified, you're going to want him to be lose control of the team. You're going to want him to be incarcerated. I think incarceration is the is so egregious. It's so awful. It's so horrendous. I mean, even a New York newspaper calling this a racist slur. And when you hear it, it's worse than you think. Here's the quote, addressing a crowd of over a hundred. Over a hundred people, gasping. Fainting. Vomiting. Being taken away in the hospital, the hospital, they were so offended by this monstrous villainous evil racist named Cal mcnair. What did he say? Get to it Gallagher? He said, I'm sorry, we couldn't get together last year because of the China virus. That's it. That's it. He called it the China virus. And for that, editors at the New York Post are hyperventilating. They're breathing into brown paper bags and apparently a hundred people at an event at a golf tournament in May had to be given CPR. He called coronavirus the China virus. There's a newsman in the Tampa Bay Area who is one of the most well respected newsmen in America. He is so good. This is a guy been around forever. I mean, everybody in Tampa Bay knows roger, P shulman. Great news man. Not only is he a terrific anchor. His story selection is so good, he's compelling. He tells stories about the Tampa Bay, saint Pete area. I mean, I get a lot of my information as you're supposed to from great local newsmen like roger P shulman. In fact, he's a guy filled with grace. When desantis and the security team stiffed us a few weeks ago at the Florida event, it was roger and me that we're going to interview governor desantis. And because we there were a couple of protesters who got into the grand Hyatt, I think desantis security team locked him down. He wouldn't talk to anybody. And I don't think it was him. I think it was security, but in any event, they treated us pretty miserably. I was in a room for 30 minutes with roger waiting and they kept stringing me along. Some kid kept saying, oh, he's coming. And he wasn't ever coming. He never came. It was just a pretty bad situation. There was roger with me, and when we found out we were going to be like, literally blown off, stiffed. You know, dumped and desantis wasn't going to give us an interview. He was graceful. He smiled. He said, yep, that's the way the cookie crumbles. When some lose some, I mean, a lot of news people in his situation would have been upset and his grace kept me from throwing a stupid fit. And I was. I was agitated. I mean, it always frustrates me when I know who knows. I didn't want to get into any of that. All I know is roger P seaman always refers to the virus on air as the China virus. Always. And that's the way he does, and he's a newsman. He's not a conservative or a liberal. I don't know what his politics are, have no idea because he's a good news man. Yet he describes the virus.

"This is weird al yankovic. Oh yeah definitely gotta love weird al edit all right we've been having a lot of fun here in the last thirty minutes or so and we've had a great passionate callers. Throughout the day jail james clerk will join us tomorrow for his normal wednesday visit on thursday. This week as well as brian. Bogus seven is normal. Thursday visit tomorrow at nine thirty. James clicked seven o'clock. Brian bug a. Civic guys let's close today we it this heart early today and i well two three hours of the show and timothy had called in and said will it be a failure and we've got both sides chime in and disappointment failure. There is a fine line between the two if the astros not just this year but over the as long as the core teams here with what they have now not what could be in the minor leagues. What might be if they drag. You know these things. They get a trait right now. What we see the core of this team if it's together for the next six years let's just say twenty twenty four twenty twenty-five time and what you've seen from seventeen on is one world series enough. Is it a failure. If they don't get another one no it's never going to be a failure for me. Given how difficult it is to just get the one if like let's just say they again. They go into a world series this season and they blow a three game lead like that. That would be a three. That would be a failure. That would absolutely be a failure. Got one out of four games. That are left. Like that's the only way you can get to a failure to me like what if they run up against so said it'd make it to the world series this year again they play the dodgers the padres i think that those two teams are juggernauts and i would not be upset if they lost either because those two teams and they i also don't know how the teams are gonna look at that point in the year two that's like that's why it's so difficult to go through a baseball season. Do all this stuff because you could start off as the best team in a season by the end of it you just you might be white had that perception of you because you wrote off a tunnel wins earlier something and you're just not that such a fickle game. Two to for me to evaluate like on. It's easier with football and it's easier with basketball to do that to say that teams a failure. Whatever right tyler. You can't say there failure like we discussed earlier. They've into the what four years straight that is especially in today's baseball age. And especially when you look at some of the teams played. Oakland was always a really good team when the astros are really good the red sox and the yankees both very good teams. Nl central the central. Not so much. And i mean you've been to four straight. Lcs's you've got the two world series out of those four trips. You one one of them. I don't consider that a failure especially at add five more years to it. Now yeah even adding five more years there. They have a very good shot of getting back to at least the afc s this year. I personally think they're good enough to get to the world series and potentially win it That can get a bullpen arm at the trade deadline. I don't see it as a failure. I mean this is coming from a guy who's favorite teams. no nothing but failure and losing. I mean i love the angels. I love the falcons. I know what failure looks like. This is not failure okay. Here's my thought if they don't if you were to ask me if they didn't get to another world series in the next five years disappoint would be saying that's a failure teams to there would tell me they were underachieving. I'm assuming you know everybody's healthy and we see what we're seeing and not taken any of that into account. That would bother me. Because i think they are going. I think they're the. I i think that if you need to go through houston over the next three or four years. I do failure. No i know how hard it is to get their one world series in a guys career is a successful career. It's a special team now. You wanna win more. That's the aberration of multiple time and time again. So disappointing would be it. Because i think our expectations are so high. I would absolutely not call it a fair now. They get in and urinate down their leg. And don't show up for world series appearances in the next handful years. That would bother me disappointment. More than failure. Whatever you win a championship. It's not a failure. But i do think validation wise in the national media believes that the astros need to win another before. They're going to give them credit for two thousand seventeen with sucks and let's hope they get it done so they don't have to keep talking about this nonsense the trenches next chris gordy and clue and big sarge followed by the thomas show with ross. The eighteen this afternoon for heavy. Mci sean you guys never disappoint and we sure as hell take you for granted. We'll see you tomorrow..

"Travel and leisure the best ice creams in every state. Some were normal. Some were we've never heard of and then there was some like texas seven three to five seven ninety. The travel leisure said the number one. The most popular ice cream and our state is rainbow sherbert. Which i call incredible travel and leisure like who it that magazine did. We know about like send them an email. Tell them that they're dumb. I i will get that answer for you. This is the end of the segment. This is a notes. All the single girls out there. If i take you out in the orders sugar ice cream. We're not going on a second date. Just a heads up. She sheer sears. Sold the what petty caddy trying to endear. Your saw. Ladies get yourself. What a charming guy too. Shallow me to tell tyler right now what we were talking about earlier but you and what i think i was going to go on the air and say about me about no about himself. What he's looking for right now yes. Please sell him out. He wants you to call. Call out nate flat out told me during a break today. he's like i'm looking for aggressive sex. I'm kidding that's just going gonna say and the problem is the ladies get down in the he's like a power slide it that what he's looking for rest of the senate now tyler your tender lover right just a nice tender catch anything else. I just don't get an expert. So sherbert sa- turnoff for ties. While we're on the topic don't get a nun that robberies and crap either erasing blows all right and then the question brought by gordy to mc which makes sense you said will what flavor would the houston. Texans be the team and i. It's i mean cold no pun intended with ice cream guys. Let me give you a couple of flavors that do exist first off. I could tell you what. I put on the texans right now. Judging from we don't know but it's well we you know what's the over under. Mc four and a half this year. Yeah i think forty five wins. Seventeen all right. So they're not good. It's not good bubble the worst ice cream seriously bubba my screen and it does get anywhere. And here's what first of all you're not supposed to swallow gum. So i if it hard that the gum gets hard like a jawbreaker while you're trying to eat the ice cream what what's It's speaking of like when you give 'em see a hard time. We were about rainbow sprinkles in his ice cream. If you're over like nine and you order bubble gum ice cream. I can't even believe like places. Have that gum in. Ice cream is a horrible mix specifically for kids. Yes exactly which parents don't want their kids get too much sugar in their gum and your old. How many times your parents say don't swallow your gum. You know you you get stuck on your ribcage. I mean all those things. You're not supposed to swallow them. So the concept of it makes no sense. Horrible mix bubble gum in. It ends up getting hard. 'cause you gotta stay frozen for your ice cream and then the ice cream. So i'd apply that to the texans. But here's another one guys and then you guys can give me your thoughts on what the texans would lobster ice cream and you say. Well come on here. This out now. Ben and bill's chocolate emporium in maine cells of butter flavored. Ice cream with real pieces of cooked lobster. If you're if you're adventurous enough to try it beyond the shock value however the ice cream serves no purpose purpose. Other than grossing us out there is a lobster flavor. That's it's a it's a. it's a butter so tastes like butter. Which which i'll throw up in my mouth anyway butter tasting ice cream and then they cook lobster and have bits chunks of pieces of ice cream. I mean lobster in the ice cream now. If that's not if that doesn't make you wanna just lose your frigging. There's a pizza favorite ice ice cream. Philadelphia's little baby's ice cream why why are we doing pizza soft spot pizza flavored snacks in the ice cream. There's a cold sweat. Ice cream for north carolina based ice cream stores. Sunny skies sounds gross. It's homemade ice cream. It requires you to sign a waiver before you purchase now this away hottest peppers around your ice cream now who you gotta sign if you've got to sign a waiver to eat ice cream. Guess what you shouldn't eat the damn ice cream horseradish nope in. Here's what they say about the horseradish ice cream. Why would anyone subject themselves to this. This isn't fancy this is nonsense. They have no other explanation. And here's where one we entered. There's garlic ice cream served in a sebastian. Joe's in minneapolis roasted garlic almond chip ice cream. And then you get the one we always said and this is. The one is okay. I know it exists in. It ain't good as rum raisin that. That's another one. But can you imagine a lobster pizza flavored ice cream. But i'm going bubble gum just because it's it's bad in the number. One flavored is they had one viagra flavored ice cream. It's champagne flavored ice cream. it contains twenty five milligrams of viagra. That sounds dangerous. Aj hot there you go. And there's a garlic ice cream as i told you. Liquorice black liquorice flavored ice cream. That'll make you throw up in your mouth. Cotton candy which. I understand if you're five but a cotton candy ice cream no thanks. There's a bacon flavored ice cream. So it's an eggnog. Ice cream sunday. Like butter pecan almost as real quick pissing. People off. eggnog is the most overrated. Drinks on off. Eggnog terry are is there. Not a single state on this thing that had dipping dots as their favourite. None that i saw. That's a lie. There's there's just no. I don't go there. Some state out there like that feels like a kentucky or ohio thing like we lived ice cream a future over here and it's already in out forever dots like its future given my love to the ball game. She makes me by her dip in nuts. I'm like why do you like this this stuff. I i don't know if i've ever ordered dip in dot swap. Every time i take her to the astros game. I have to buy her doubts the other day when we went she on the way out. She's like the dip dot staying on my god. Dang we almost got okay supplied eight dollars worth of pedals mc we come back you and tyler. I'm applying bubblegum ice cream to him. Because i'm not going with garlic or or these. Other ice creams holy like horseradish pizza. Because those can't be very in in many. The cold sweat peppers and ice creams though that that seems like a one off right that's like the outlier bubblegum ice cream. You can see. I mean you guys have been into mini ice cream stores right and you can get it it just. I don't know. I don't understand the purpose and it sucks. So that's the ice cream apply. We'll get your guys to thoughts on the ice cream. You can apply mci. I'm going to get you the travel and leisure name because according to travel and leisure the number one most popular ice cream in our state happens to be rainbow sherbert. I don't buy it for a second. My partners will tell you what they think about the astros. What kind of ice cream and the phone lines of for you as well. Seven three two one. Two five seven nine hundred. The sean salisbury show continues. yeah. I forgot a song. That's my bad g. o. I thought you said he just got bamboozled. He brought something about the tennessee. Titans what they're doing and he told us cruise over on. You said tyler. That's why i'm asking you. I thought you said i gotta song. I'm like okay. I'm waiting to hear your great song. Wave song. I got a song. Then i gotta saw him let it rip and then i'm sitting here. There's dead air. And i thought well did i cut out here. My and then it's got a song right titan news and i will play the.

"Do you. I don't think i mean you could. If you're in love with. I think mobely that i think you could quit. But i wouldn't get to the point where green and were cutting hamid. Green apparently seemed to top guys right now at least by buzz whether that's whether that's how the nba teams feel. Don't know but when you when we when the rockets draft we are the flagship of the rockets so then we love that when they draft. Are they picking one or two. I think they'll be picking to also say too. And i'm looking at the nba draft order right now. So the only seattle. Say something about this right. Yeah says this what you wanted to say. I don't imagine detroit trading out of the top four because like we've been discussing this is basically a four player draft and it's those top four players. Detroit needs beating literally everything. They need just a brand new team but the only team. I can't see cleveland trading to number one to get cunningham because they didn't have colin sexton wall. Apparently they're shopping center about trading him. Yeah or maybe trading him to detroit but then like i said i'd still be fine with shoot trading for him is like having to make a decision really quick how much you're willing to pay him because his contract situation i think is changing by the way i think. The last rumor was that the knicks are happy for him. He's averaged twenty four points per game last year. Shot thirty seven percent from three but he is a free agent after next season restricted. free agent. so he's gonna go. he keeps up. Those numbers are going to go. Max deal and real quick guys. We're going to break. Here's my i think they're picking to the rockets and you guys just started to briefly hit on it. I don't think they can afford 'cause that's city. Nba is craving for them. A player in this. I think the city's craven a marketable superstar right. A guy that you say is a franchise change. And i think that the now. I don't know you know you. You should not make decisions based on what somebody on social media tells you to do. But i think the city overall and the team put it this way if you're if cunningham's their guy and you want to get to the one side if i was a detroit pistons i would make idiot either. Be a deal. That i'd be an idiot even fourcade cottingham to turn down. And if he didn't that. I'm quite comfortable making that deal. Because i don't think anybody in detroit is going gonna be pissed if you drafted cunningham. I think there'll be a lot of people in detroit. That are pissed. If you've got a player a another first rider and the second the second pick of this draft now some may like green more than cunningham or whoever they love. But i think just for what you're trying to build and they need a what i think what people perceive as a superstar right off the bat and kate cunningham. I think it's gonna take a lot for the pistons to be convinced if can k. Cutting guy that they want out of that slot if they trade him. They're going to you know what the narrative is going to beat the detroit and everybody else right all jalen green or whoever is has been our favorite player all along. Correct that that's what they're going to. That's what they're gonna take. We got our guy is what you'll hear. But i think detroit franchise craving the next superstar and in order to do it. Because everybody thinks it's cunningham you better damn well. And the other guys may be superstars but perception to a fan base and what they hear that means a lot and for detroit good. Pr on the draft. Pick means a lot to as well as performance sports stock seven ninety hour number four next man rolling along fast astros. Is it a disappointment or a failure even worse. If this core group doesn't win another world series before it breaks up eventually. It is breaking up. They all do how soon and can they win another one. And if not worse failure level be with the astros and ice.

"Four tonight in milwaukee. Come right back. Quarterback sean salisbury. This is the sean salisbury. Show our guy timothy who called in brought up the point. Will this be a failure. If this core group of the astros don't win another world series while they're all here i know springer's gone but the group still pretty core and they're pretty loaded So i think it was a hell of a question brought up earlier timothy. It's led to a lot of banter on twitter from our friends and obviously from how we How people respond to it. And richard clay On twitter at richard cordray underscore are c- Sean any year that does not end in a world. Series title is a failure if this core group only wins one then. It's just a more disappointing. Failure deserves to be under a microscope. All right fair enough in like the opinion. Mci i i sit on the fence and we're going to get we got loaded phone lines and heavy t. m. c. You made the point. I think we've discussed this and other sports like okay. I don't ever see we. We talk about during trades. Like for instance. If the rams were to win a super bowl you give up a couple of number ones right or the forty niners with trae lance right after giving up a couple number ones if they were able to win a super bowl one time in a decade by giving up a couple of number ones you asked. Is that a failure or a success. Well i always believe when you get one how hard they are to get that. I'm okay with it right. Well i would want five of them. It's hard for me to label it failure when you get one but i also see the side of like william chamberlain and richard and and i. I often think the same way at times. And i think we all do so. What's the fine line between. What a major disappointment they only one or you guys are just epic failure because you guys underachieved because your roster kansas city as a chief foreign houston is an astro was way too good to just win one because we get spoiled. You win one and it's like that's not enough and that's the way players. Think to a wonderful. I need number. Two and brady's has been spoiled forever. Well i've only been to. You know ten super bowl so let me get seven. I need more greedy. And that's okay to be greedy because you want to win championships. So i do think it poses a good question over. It's a failure disappointment. But with this lineup i think most of us expect more championships from the astros. Joe welcome in man. How you doing on sports talk seven ninety. I'm great sean thanks. Hey i'm a fan of astros diehard society sixty two four afc s.'s Two world series one victory as far as not discern is success is not a failure and whoever says that doesn't know anything about how just like you said how hard it is to get there and these guys done a fantastic job and i'm sorry. We don't have springer anymore. But you know i it just is what it is but i'm telling you it's success far as i'm concerned. So let me up joe joe. Don't hang up joe joe. Don't hang on a second. i love your i love. How positive your over the history. The astros france. I do i. I'm a glass half full guy. Most of the time and i think man and i guess maybe maybe my perspective maybe a little different. Because i've i was on some minnesota. Vikings teams guys in m. c. You and i've talked about over the course of its since we've been doing the show together and i mentioned throughout the course of my career. When you think about chris. carter. Anthony carter john randall. Chris doleman keith. Millar gary zimmerman randall. Mcdaniel seventy six or seven of those guys hall of famers and the list goes on and on. Warren moon came in a little. You know with warren later We were steve jordan. Six time trouble titan. We were loaded. We never won a super bowl. Never want a super bowl and so if you haven't been that perspective man how hard it is to win one to get to one to win one. We look at the patriots and brady and we say well. That's the norm. That's not the norm. That's that's the aberration so it's tough but then there's a site me says yeah. We failed. Men were better than that. We didn't close it out. So i see both sides Joe i'm curious under this team. Forget the past. Let's just go since two thousand sixteen fair enough. They've won one. They started they turn it around from all those sixty win hundred law seasons if they don't win another world series with this group the bregman correa's and this group together still no failure for you more disciplined less failure no value whatsoever. They've won one guys. They want right period and so they got it they got and they're they're so far. No failure possibly the swimming. Yeah i was. I wish they could've won. Damn game kidney gaming home Hundred game world series with the national. Come on that's ridiculous but any run. Not you know it's something we never. We never said houston really. We really haven't so ready to appreciate what we have seen We can you and realizes it you know it could be a one time thing you never know that either. So so and so. I'd love to see him wearing another one. But as far as i'm concerned it's success periods. All right point. Joe love man. Thanks for the call and and i. That's a great point because win. A ring is so hard. And i've said this before i've talked to marino about every year now. Dan and i for years since he's been a league and mci when seem at the super bowl and it's like any he. Dan told me pointblank years ago at a super shot. I thought after that first one at eighty four. I'd going to five six more. He never saw one again. Not because danny wasn't good because while the team around and just couldn't get back and so it's it's tough so that the fee it's hard yet there's hardcore fans that look at expect more from these great players like did you the word failure like you're talking about it gets. It's such a sticky word because there's different definitions of it for people so like you know to me if like the astros went to another world series and we're up three in the series and lost. I'd go while they failed. Of course. I have to go into their getting at early. Baseball's the the most difficult to do this in because so many odd unpredictable players that you wouldn't think would make the difference will make the difference in a series in like it's just such a weird sport like winning one in two thousand seventeen incredible. I look to like each individual has to be evaluated. This window is not a failure by any means. Because i've only won one twenty eighteen. I think if we realistically look back on that team incredible pitching that got injured late. But i never had a feeling in two thousand eighteen that that team was gonna win it all i could just. They didn't hit enough. See you lean more on the disappointment. Twenty nineteen disappointment that they didn't wind all not a failure. Not anything close to just a disappointment and also to me fluky like it just was a fluky but baseball. Has that almost every single year. Think about the favourite year. How often did they win in baseball specifically rarely the dodgers had been the favourite for five years. They've won one as well like that's it and they didn't a fluky mickey mouse type of season. Where sixty games like. It's just it to me. It's the most unpredictable sport to where it's hard for me to ever put the word failure on anything because at the end of the season when october gets here. We've talked about this a million times. It doesn't have to be the best team in the league that it is all season that goes and does it like if you're hot going in. That's the team is the best team that's all. It really is a marathon. Nc two a. basketball tournament pretty similar hot. Going in may not be the best or most talented team. But could you hit a clutch. Three point shot at the right time in. What a six game stretch over the ncaa tournament so like a seven game series in baseball. Let's get to lisa lisa. Welcome in your lady's always go to the front of the line. How you doing but Lisa good thank you guys for taking my call. You bet i just wanted to say you know typically because.

"Legit great doing both you should give it a go. It's going to be a high school type guy because there's not college teams aren't unless you know college team let's go and let's do it and then shows it. Yeah i i'm sitting here thinking about okay. All the great athletes you see across the country in high school sports stars or then all of a sudden just excel at one sport like this and say guys vested or any high school. Baseball team as a freshman is a varsity player and throws ninety seven as a high school player and is just so phenomenal. And we say we'll come on those guys are they're rare will in truth now ninety seven and you know it's five hundred high. School may not be the norm but there are guys that can do both exceptionally well in some special now to be able to do major league level or these ads. The best of the best they specialized. Yes it it. It'll be rare and it may not be One of those things that happens. It'll be tempted but to do it at the level of shohei ohtani maybe not. But maybe but if you're a guy and you see oh my gosh. I love to play and your team. You're saying listen and somebody's going to try. Yes i it's the best. He's our best hitter. Well okay awesome can you. Yeah he tells ninety eight and has three pitches and and and if he wasn't hitting he'd be a top ten pick in the draft is pitcher. Okay let's say he wasn't pitching will. He's the third pick of the draft of the first pick of the draft as a hitter. Because he's a great field or he's he's got a he's a he's a you know a center fielder with an arm or he pitches and play centerfield and he's our best hitter and he wants to do it. Why not well. We want to vote will. But what if he's if he's an every single level he's better than everybody both. And i know we'll see again. The question is who's going to let him and there's got to be a guy that's been watching otani play. Let's just say this year there's got to be a kit lose sixteen years old. They're little leaguer who you're like man the you know we all have that guy you'd mentioned we've mentioned before that you played ball with growing up the kids different man this this deutz destined for special and then you say well. We'll positionally place as the best pitcher in the league. I mean he's the best pitcher. I've ever face in little eager in high school. And he's been started on the varsity since he was a freshman and was your all star home run guy and everywhere you go. He's best and he's in his. he's just he's phenomenal. I think it'll be and i can't wait to see it but i wonder how many kids are going to say and i think it'll it'll happen rapidly. Like i want to be like shohei. Ohtani one thing to say. I wanna be like mike trout because my translator. But what if you want to be like shohei ohtani and you're really that good and that's not rare when it comes to like literally because obviously they play. You've high school you play two positions your best hitters plan another position when he's not pitching if use your best pitcher as well so i. I'm just curious if they if they would do it and how often we're going to see it and we'll teams be more open to it while they're spending a lot of money on their first round draft prospect and they said well we want him to dial in. Well if you can be shohei ohtani. Do i need him to dial in. How important is it. And how receptive teams to do you guys think team. There will be team that does it. But it's there's always gonna be a there'll be quick to pull pull the plug on it if it if it's like either injury or just not going well like there's definitely i can't remember who it was recently. They got drafted. They were talking about doing because the reds player. Not too long ago i drafted. It was considering doing both. But you know the leash of private short on certain guys tyler. Think different. No i think. I think more teams would be willing to give people a shot now. The question is i think a big question is because a lot of these younger pitchers now with how hard they throw in with the the movement and everything a lot. More of them require. Tommy john and that's going to play a bigger role like yeah. Yeah so i was thinking of otherwise. Brendan mckay may tweeted. That was a tampa bay. Guy was today. I think he had tommy john or something. He has really been able to do both. Tyler you were finishing with. I'm that's that's just going to be one big outliers like what team is going to be willing to take the risk. I mean 'cause showing exactly shohei was a pitcher. Before he had the tommy john and he sat out pitching for your because the tommy. John thank god he was still gonna hit by. I mean what team is going to be patient enough to try this experiment and in a way when you invest a hydro exactly the angels got very lucky because they realize that our poses contract with so big that they can't afford to go sign quality pitching so they're like hey we're not going to be good for a couple years. Let's get show in here. Let's try this experiment. We'll see how it works. And so far so good and now that is gone. You can sign other helpful pitching around him. So you're not putting all the pressure on him like now he has to be like our number one eight and one of our best hitters. All about it's just a lotta pieces got to fall into the place for the next shohei. Ohtani possibly happen. Well two things and we'll put up big on here before we go to break is a small ch mentioned last night and we know what otani he's been doing at the plate obviously he's leading the league in home runs and his biggest competitor for mvp. Ira ironically was the mvp and the all star game last night. Vlad guerrero junior in the american league and he made the point he said if it shohei otani was just a pitcher and this would smoke said that he would be the best pitcher in the american league. He believes twenty set last night and so with that we already know. He's he's considered as well when he looked at hitting wise. He's the mvp front runner and with a doing both. It gives them that the heads up. So there's that which led me to thinking about our poll question. I was thinking about it last night and trying to see. How do we phrase it. And that's why i brought up. Who will do it again. And how long can otani do this. So the poll question is pretty. Simple is what happens first. Shohei ohtani gives up one of those or a rising prospector. A kid does does shohei. Ohtani does now. So let's say altadis playing in the next decade. We're doing this for the next thing of a fifteen year career what we come. I will see another guy at the major league level. Do it on a consistent basis like him or he will quit doing it before we have a guy doing it. So however you put that up tyler. Like i said what goes first tiny given one of the two up or because either physically. It's too exhausting or a young player. Saying i wanna be shohei otani and we got a major league guy who comes in. And he's doing it every day on the days he's not pitching lineup every day as a d. h. or fielder wherever they put in and on the days he is he's pitching and hitting and he does both so we'll come first otani gives it up or somebody else comes in and does it and if you want to add a third one it can be or we see both of them doing it at the same time in major league baseball so i think it interesting to see because i do believe this is gonna have people aren't going to just look at shohei ohtani. I wanna be a great player. Great hitter like camera. I want to be able to throw hundred. I think the thing is most people can say like with bo jackson for different reasons and dion sanders played. Two sports are going to say. I want to be like shohei ohtani. I can do both makes me more valuable more marketable. And that's exactly what i wanna do and be like shohei ohtani. We'll see let's put that up as the big one it is. Sean sows we show it. Talk seven ninety here on a wednesday. Let's talk astros. What's next here on the show. We show with heavy t and mc dr jeff whitsett whitsett vision dot com. Hey listen if your question your vision and your quite frankly. "Welcome. In on a post all star game american league wins baton gets a save guerrero. The mvp i mean all he gets the win aggressively mvp hendrix to save and we're discussing about the The publicity in the waif major league baseball or android fox yesterday covered shohei otani. Who is a phenomenal story in a phenomenal. The talent and incredible. I mean everything you eat engaging every everything to smile everything does right. Now is a is a big gig. And he's earned it with his first half and with just pitching and hitting and everything he's doing so we were discussing in first segment guys about the publicity and the push in the comparisons to babe ruth and all that and then tyler. You're mentioning and we about that. I thought that fox also probably jumped all over. And maybe with a little nudge from major league baseball. You know when they're putting their pre-production stuff in after what happened. You know the last twenty four to thirty hours or so During the day before you make you thought well did. Fox capitalize on. Espn says you know problems. With what stephen. A smith said about tiny and thought. Well you know what we're going to go the opposite way. Obviously he deserves publicity. But we are going to even heightened more meaning let's let's interview him in the dugout later in the game. Let's ask ask a player in the pre game interview him about it and and continue to make him what he. Spn kind of winning not espn. But stephen a smith that in talent you mentioned something that post-game you saw something that was talking about. Mlb making a comment that kind of put together a little. What what was it a little advertisement or something a little so it was just saying now is basically just a tweet at the end of the mlb put together this little tweet and it had a picture of the three main starts the guy who got the win which was shohei the guy who got the save which was liam hendriks and the guy who got the mvp which is roger and this is what the tweet said so. The tweet just has win. That has the japanese fighting next for showing obviously save australian flag for it because liam hendriks is australian. Mvp canadian flag in a dominican. Flag for vlad guerrero junior and then news underneath that it says a global game. So what i was saying during the break is that i feel especially with everything. They did to capitalize on shohei being there. Now that we don't know if this is just going to be a one year thing for all we know he could blow out his arm and we'd never see him again and but you know if he's able to hit the. It's not all bad but you kind of have to capitalize on this because this is something we've never seen before on the other hand if you're mlb in a weird way. And i'm not saying that. This was the right way to do it. But with what. Stephen a said in a weird way did put more is on your product. It's it's one of those things where they say No any news is good news or dopamine is bad like that. I promise that the publisher stephen a smith i think in a way was not everybody say are everybody knows what it was taking a shot at by. Unfortunately there's no real way to really go round it now. I do believe i do believe did with. The stephen a. smith controversy with this. I believe that people were like what what what what is this. What are you what are you what. What did he say and going through twitter. I do believe while i know stephen. A smith was you know was with people are on all over it the last day and a half or so but i think that it did dries to if you didn't know otani and you heard what he said you're like what what's what's what's mean if you too big your mediocre baseball fan. It like you were talking about. Your dad didn't own brother. The who's both. They both like baseball. Maybe weren't paying enough attention. Well how does he throw you really you. How often does exist good. He's got this. Many home runs in the first half of the season. All these things and while it started with stephen a the way the way it shifted became about otani and rightfully so. I do think that while the publicity at espn whether it was bad or not. People were tuned in wondering. We'll you podge is why do you say this and then you get two major league baseball on fox capitalize on okay. Now people are saying well let me see what the dude got and all of us have watched him know what he's got but yeah i do think it for different reasons was publicity to both and fox thinking. Well you know what this is about ratings about getting our young stars publicized or major league baseball and i do believe it brought more attention to it. Even though he's been getting a ton of attention. I don't think it hurt fox. That's for sure. I think it actually helped blissett wise. And i'll guarantee more is it didn't know about him in years. Were listening and watching. That maybe wouldn't have had. They not known about him and say well let me see what he's got early all star game. Maybe he's not gonna play long. And how long will this last all those things. i do. Believe he had to jump all over it and see okay. What's what's the hype about and had a pretty good idea finding out. Yeah and like. I said it's no publicity is bad publicity. I'd be interested to see what the numbers look like. After the game as far as like the ratings go you know. But i definitely did see that. There seems to be more talk about this. All star game there have been in previous years any all star games before bad. I mean of course you had some bad ones. But i think because of what everything that show. He is doing so far this year. There's more of a reason to talk about and we'll give fox's they did a very good job abbey did a capitalizing on it and i listen guys. Two biggest talked about things going into the all star game or you know aside from well what's going to happen the home derby because we always want to know how far some world johnny top of the list and pub big star and a lot of talk about who wasn't too wasn't showing up who is not gonna show up but there's The astros of why wouldn't i was. You know you watched it and see different. People and different people felt a feel. Different ways might greenberg's producer. I think he's part of Is get up in the morning as well was talking about for a couple of minutes you had a segment was talking about baseball players. Don't show up and what roberto clemente talking about. All the things you know. All the different games year the babe ruth played in exhibition games for the fan.

"Is it soured, and obviously it's from the top and Cal McNair in ownership. So it is official now to Sean watching. Will want out of Houston. The head coaching hire of David Cully makes no difference. It does not change his feelings. One bit Shawn watching has requested a trade. In the Houston, Texas. This now both to the top of the offseason storylines. We will wait to see Where does Sean watching goes this off season, But now we see how the Houston Texas handle a situation. Houston, You have a problem. Officially, he has requested to trade that's great. Wow. No, I love it. The Sun watching signed a four year $156 million contract that included his $27 million signing bonus, an average salary of $39 million her year. Let me say that again. $39 million per year $73 million guaranteed it signing a total guarantee of $110 million, And once again it was on Lee a four year deal. Now, all of a sudden, he could be wearing the predominantly orange uniforms of the Denver Broncos. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that that is the way of the world. I'll be popping bottles like you've never seen before. I just let you know. All right. Are you in review continues and we got to see this here in the A F C West. We got to see it twice. And that is the introduction into a young quarterback to the National Football League. The Los Angeles Chargers botched the injury to their QB one Tyrod Taylor, but that jump started the career of Justin Herberts. It was just unfortunate. You know the young man it fractured his ribs early in the game first week. No one knew it. You know, he says he's a tough guy. You know he's not still in that field and fight for his teammates, and I knew something was wrong. Just other way He's You know the way he moved around in the game a little bit, but he just told me it was soreness. And so we get we get em. I s we find out the real crack. So I put him on a report at that time with the ribs and you know it and then the injection and that was just complications. But the injection before the game happens all the time, but not number, not the complications, but we got to get injected all time with that before the game and It was just unfortunate you know that What happened to him? But I don't tell you the young quarterback under those circumstances, you know, I found out right there in pregame on the sideline. I went over to him and told me of a starting quarterback right now, and he didn't believe me. At first. I said no, Justin, I'm serious. Uh, hey, didn't blink now. He did not Blake and I was so proud of the way he played under those circumstances because we put the young man some trust. Situations Now. I mean, you guys know the back of quarterback of the stories got to the quarterback and no, and he gets some reps with the with the starters but not very many and hey, didn't get a lot of us with those guys, and he went and the hell with all senses as well as you could. But there's you know, still still not still like to learn there, but he did the best he could. And I also, I was Broadway play. We're gonna shotgun.

"And he was a pillar of the community. And if that wasn't already cemented, it was so with what he did after the hurricane there and raised $37 million and everything else, so I don't have any issue with him, saying I don't want to talk about other stuff today. I want to make today about JJ. It's a convenient way to get out of talking about other stuff. But There was some legitimacy to it that said, and as chef, he said, This doesn't go away. He can put it off till tomorrow if he wants to, But this is the biggest story in the National Football League right now. Because to Shawn Watson is a miracle. Miracle that happened to their franchise. Like you get your draft a quarterback and he turns out to be that guy. He turns out to be everything you could ever imagine a player being on the field and off And you somehow managed to alienate him to the point that he doesn't He refuses to take your $39 million this year to play for you. Into showing Watson will be the second highest paid player in the NFL. This coming here, Patrick Holmes will make $45 million this year watching will make 39 Sean wants and is threatening to and everyone close to him. I can't independently verify this. I haven't spoken to Sean about it. But everyone who has tells you he is dead set. I'm sitting if that's what it takes. So basically, he's saying to the ownership he's saying to that man to Cal McNair. I will not take your $39 million to play football for your franchise for this organization. I will not work for you at even a salary that would put you in the top 390.1% of people in human history. You're not gonna do it. Something's gone terribly wrong there. If you were listening earlier. I mean, Sean sounds very went off. I'm not going to play it all of it for you again, but he's closer to the situation. He's covering sports down there in Houston, and he went off on those guys. So that's a mess. What we have in Houston is a complete mess. And if you're not a sports fan in Houston, you may be saying to yourself. What do I care about this? Well, I'm telling why you should care. You should care if you're in New York. Should care if you're in Miami. You should care if you're in Chicago, you should care if you're actually you should care if you're practically anywhere. Because every move begets another. For example, today we had Mike Reiss, who covers the Patriots on the TV show. And he comes on, and he says he thinks Jimmy G is going to go back to New England this offseason. That means you, Jimmy James, not in San Francisco anymore. But what does that mean? Does that mean to Shawn's in San Francisco? Where's Carson went? All these moves are intertwined. This isn't these aren't things that are happening an individual vacuums. They're all happening in an interconnected way. This is important to every fan of every football team in the country. There a lot of pieces out there People want Matthew Stafford was one of them, Maybe even the second most desirable one. Shawn Watson is first by a long margin. We'll see what winds up happening that that remains by far the biggest story in the sport. We'll see where he goes. I have one more piece of business. I want to bring back today and that is to this way of Sunday's Valentine's Day. So in 30 seconds we're going to do a very special edition of the green List in honor of a day to celebrate the people in your life, that person in your life whom you love the most. We'll do that in 30. Seconds after this time for some straight talk. Your tax return could look different this year, but you're still gonna hear a lot of noise about how to spend it. So.

"Whatever Cal McNair and or jockey Jack Easterby did to do. Shawn Watson is irreparable that they screw this up so badly that everything else doesn't matter that to Shawn Watson is that bent and maybe it's personal. Maybe it's real personal. I don't know. But something happened. Where to Shawn Watson, who is by all accounts, a great dude. I mean, the guy has had an impeccable reputation from high school on The fact that I mean JJ Watt, after a 4 12 season, wraps his arm around of walking off the field the week 17 it says, Man, we wasted one of your years. You deserve better than that. I don't think the Shawn Watson saying that or doing that for the camera, and I don't think you sing. You're doing that to a jerk or a guy that he doesn't really respect. That's JJ freak. And why By all accounts is shown wants is a great guy. That Cal McNair and Jackie Jackie Easterby whose ride in county nears You know what could possibly Anger frustrate alienate, too, Shawn Watson. This badly is the biggest sin and the biggest crime on their hands. And as I've said before a farm, McNair I am firing Jackie's to be yesterday. What's what's it worth? What is it worth? It's worth losing your franchise quarterback. A 25 years old to keep on a team chaplain mean give me a break. So maybe this is too Shawn Watson saying Choose me or him. Me or Jacque Easterby. Who knows? Maybe it's that power play. But the second part that it tells me is That he must view the hiring of Holly with a bit of a side. I That maybe he thinks Oh, now they're just trying to curry favor with me. Or now they care about what I think, Or maybe even think Cali's a good candidate. Because he suggested Robert Saleh and they didn't even basically give him a sniff. Or whatever it Woz. That He thought that they did wrong. But the second part is that the hiring of Cully Is met with skepticism from the Shawn Watson. And again. Maybe he thinks this is a hollow shallow move by Cal McNair to try to say like, Hey, look, we hired this guy and who knows? Who knows for those reasons Why, Shawn Watson of use it that way. Like those two things that I would read into this situation that yesterday. I mean to Shawn Watson couldn't even wait after like the announcement. You couldn't wait until today or next week. That somehow the day that they hire announced the hiring of The head coach. He says, Yeah, I'm requesting a trade. I mean, the bridges are burning. In Houston, and it is It is such a crime that they did this and they ruin this because you you had him bought in to a huge extension a year ago. You're a go to Sean wanted wanted to end his career is a Houston, Texas a year later. He's asking for a trade. And he's got a new no trade clause. I mean, he did have a no trade clause, so it didn't seem like he wanted to be traded. It's a devastating turn of events for that organization. Devastating They must have really, really messed this thing up in Apparently announcing Nikos area of the GM, while the Shawn Watson was on vacation was a bridge too far. That he might have felt as though they did that basically behind his back because they knew that he wouldn't like it. And he had offered them some suggestions or they had a search firm and that they went against all of that to hire Jack Easter B's best friend while the Sean wants was on vacation. And over the weekend. And um and this Miss Tennessee coach and higher It's a real interesting one effort. South Otto's strong at the nepotism and I thought about what the offense could be, and was Kevin Steele taken helmet, the defensive Started the ball. Hey, have strong recruiting ties that you know he does things the right way. And he did things the right way at Auburn and you know, they were too formidable defense. They're all grown, and, um I really think he's steady force. That could hold that Tennessee program intact in I'm not a fan. I just worked there and I got to play. "What with the SportsCenter all night on ESPN Radio and the ESPN AB, Sirius XM Channel 80 those stories and highlights ahead, But we begin with a relationship that is beyond repair. Shawn Watson has officially requested a trade the organizational disaster that that is, I mean, it's creepy. Unless Cal McNair of the owner now can fire Cal McNair, Not much is going to change. Maybe you just heard the shot. Watson is officially asked the Houston Texans for a trade Adam Schefter reporting. The request was made weeks ago and the new head coach hire of David Cully will not alter his desire to be dealt Schefter on SportsCenter We've seen to Shawn Watson make his decision and now the Houston Texans will have to make theirs and they will have to make the choice of the best of the worst case scenarios they can either move on from their franchise. Quarterback and collect a treasure trove of compensation in return for him. Or they can simply squat on him and enforce their rights and try to uphold their into the bargain. Find him for not being in many camps almost $100,000 fine him $50,000 a day for not showing up to training camp. Find them $620,000 for each preseason game he misses and then try to re collect $21.6 million and money if he decides to retire, So each side has got its own ideas, But this Shawn Watson, so highly principled man, don't think the Houston Texans. They're gonna want to see this go the distance, but they're gonna have to decide what they want to do next as teams call them and try to see if they are willing. To trade the Sean at this time, so no doubt Houston has a problem in the form of franchise quarterback who was signed for four years at 156 million but has a desire, toe walk and leave. He has not talked with his new head coach, or GM, Nicolas Aerio. The trade request comes after Watson was reportedly unhappy with the process used to hire car stereo in early January. "The Houston, Texas that, according to reports over the weekend, Welcome back D A with you Here on CBS Sports Radio, a little reminder that you could always watch the show was well go toe watch ta dot com available on any device also watch us on twitch by going to the CBS Sports Radio channel there. Cal McNair. Need to have his head examined. Because Cal McNair has taken a Ferrari. And put Multiple bags of manure in it. And taken the tires off and put snow tires on it. And driven it through far mud. Because you have to Sean watching and he is not a prima donna. Shawn Watson is not a guy that you don't trust to be in a leadership position that Shawn Watson has always done everything right? He's won. He's built cultures at Clemson. Veterans respect them. I mean, JJ wants coming up to him after a season go, man We wasted your year at J. J wants been around a long time. You think he's doing that for a knucklehead? No to Shawn Watson is He is what you want. As your franchise leader and you have upset him so much. By all of the nonsense of the organization. That the Sean wanted is Even by his own accord. Have traded DeAndre Hopkins put him at an anger level two. He's now a 10. If I'm Cal McNair Sitting down with Sean wanted and I'm saying to Sean, we want you here. We gave the extension for a reason. We messed up. I messed up. I want to make this right? Let's work through this, okay? And I'm taking Jack Easter B A from the farm comic there, and I'm I'm saying you're not part of this right now. And I'm taking Nick cancerous and you're not part of this right now. This is between me. The leader of my team. And if you are Cal McNair You pushed aside your ego is being the owner. The son of a daddy billionaire. And you just go man to man. How can we make this right? Because there's a lot of people around Houston that don't believe Cal McNair's a bad guy. It's just that maybe he little Doofy. And that he's followed the wrong advice. Namely Jack Easterby. And I would just I think the way that you connect to a good guy and all natural leader like to Shawn Watson is to be authentic. And to say, Let's just scrap what happened. We met. I messed up. I want to try to fix this because you are crucial. You know if the Texans trade to Shawn Watson, what are the chances without the number one pick in the draft that they're going to find the next franchise guy? I mean, look, there's always the opportunity, so I'm not saying it's impossible because The Chargers found Justin Herbert outside of the first pick, and Shawn Watson wasn't the first pick. But you know, you wait your whole life to get it to Shawn wants Say.

"I'm not saying that you allow a player to dictate your moves. And no way should've quarterback be telling you hire this guy hire that guy hired this guy. But he should have input and you should listen to him and include him in the decisions and part of the thing. Part of the problem with Shawn Watson is that the Houstons have majorly screwed up their franchise. By trading one of the best wide receivers in the league while taking a bad contract back and return while making bad trades toe bringing in an offensive lineman. That's fine, but giving away high first round draft picks, so they have made big mistakes in getting where they are right now, with four wins like you can't You look at the Texans. It Z only half about the town and the players they have on the team. The other half of it is just total dysfunction. Right, so the owner Cal McNair doesn't see that there's a problem. So the short Watson after finishing with four wins, and this Easterby, dude, and I'm reading from the S. I Oracle. This Easterby guy has this end the year Totaled, like team teams there. He gives this long, long winded, rambling message to the team to where players are leaving it, and they're saying I'm pissed off. What the hell was that? Right, Like they're so furious after these air. Some players I don't know about all players, but the tone of the conversation of players afterwards was yet we're screwed. This guy is nuts, and he has no idea what he's doing right? And the owner doesn't see it that way. And I think I think we can all relate his sports fans. If we've had a team that is bad, and They can't seem to get out their own way. Examples. The Knicks bad franchise that starts with the owner, the Mets Old Mets, and they just sold her team right. Bad franchise starts with the owner. The Bangles Bad franchise starts with the owner, even Connor Greens jets. Bad franchise starts with the owner, and I like the coach that they hired. I think that'll go a long way in addressing it, But you know where I'm going to wear like Daniel slider for so many years with the Redskins or the Washington football team, bad owner it starts with him. Right. So Cal McNair he was described in this article in Sports Illustrated. Connor Gino who you know the movie, Tommy Boy. Are you familiar with that? I just feel like everybody would know that I have seen that. It was a long time ago. But I have seen that movie. So Tommy Boy is with late Chris Farley. And he essentially long story short. He was the son. Of an auto ports on auto parts. Conglomerate Magnet. Dad, who was that? It was his company. He ran it. He dies unexpectedly. Now, Tommy boy. Has to take over the take over the company and save it. And he's ill equipped. He never ran the company before. He's a nice guy. People like him, but he's just totally clueless, and he screws everything up. Now, In the end, he's able to save everything and with help the company's fine. That's his nickname among staffers with the Texans. Cal McNair, the owner of the Texas is called Tommy Boy. Could you imagine that if you're Your owner is called Tommy boy because you're the rich kid that never had to run anything and that you have to run anything and you're running it into the ground. And you and you just bumble and fumble. Every decision that you have This is Cal McNair. This is what's being described by by Texans employees. Right there. That air quoted in this article, So, ah, lot of a lot of the anger from the Shawn Watson because we're gonna have Sean Pendergrass coming up here in a little bit. I want to see it kind of set the stage for it. Ah, lot of the anger right now currently for the Shawn Watson. I'm sure it involves the team winning four games this year. But also He wanted to be included, and he gave feedback on what he thought as far as G. M's and coaches, and he mentioned Eric the enemy as a coach Pat Mahomes called him And said, Hey, my offensive coordinator of Erik, the enemy would be a great choice for you and told him all the reasons why they didn't even schedule an interview with him during the first wave of of interviews. So while Kansas City had their bye week, they could have scheduled an interview. They could have done the interview. They didn't do it. Right, so that that's it. Come on. First of all, second of all, Nick, a stereo that the general manager they hired, the Texans hired a search firm to come up with a couple of names who they would hire and a lot of times these big companies use. These search firms is paying a lot of money and they do the research. They do the background, they figure out who you should pick. And then the owner doesn't have to use that but certainly takes that for what it's worth. They recommended two people, including Lou Reddick and Omar Khan of the Steelers, both minority candidates. They did not hire him. They hard to stereo from from the Patriots. And again, Shawn Watson found this out through social media Twitter like me, and you and Connor and everybody else out there, so they're not including him in the decisions and the conversations like Hey, I understand to some Watson should be making the decisions. But you have to allow him in on the decisions like update him. Have a phone call saying, Hey, listen, This is who we spoke to. This is what we're gonna do. He's already ticked off, and now he's finding out who the who The new GM of the team is through Twitter. I mean, that just seems like a bad idea. How bad is it down in Houston? There's a protest planned at their stadium tomorrow night and we'll ask Shawn about it coming up here. Um, he just wants out and a lot of fans see this and see with this franchise is headed. There was a lot of talent on this team. And normally with talent. You still need the quarterback All man, they have the quarterback. This kid is this kid is really good. Right. Still got to take that next step. Still got to succeed in the playoffs. Right? Has been a quarter of a playoff quarterback before, but so as to take those next next steps, But at least you had, you know you have the guy that can take the next steps. And right now with the with the Texans they're doing is they're just totally screwing it up. And I I always believe this When your player wants out, Forget about forget about any player but your quarterback, but really any any star player when he wants out as we found out with James Harden, ironically, also in Houston. When he wants out. You can play the well. He's under contract and we're gonna have him play. And that's that. Okay? How did that work out for you in Houston? How'd that work out? All ages Gonna act up? And that's it. So I'm not implying that Shawn Watson would act up like James Harden did. I don't think that was a good look for Harden. But you know what he can do, He can show up to work and clearly not be happy. So if he really wants out, and you can now with Eric be enemy. Now they have after after the showing Watson freaked out, and he's clearly unhappy in its public. Then they finally scheduled an interview with Eric the enemy. Well, why would you have done that? To begin with right now. It looks like that you are. You are coming connected dots. Now you're going to interview him because the song Watson wants you to. So now you're actually giving him more power than if you would've just Done. This originally handle things the way they should have handled things. So an absolute in absolute just mess down in Houston and for other teams around the NFL. It. This is what I would be doing and my home teams in Philly and the Eagles are my team. Right? And I'm sure the Rams would love to have a guy like Like to show him Watson. The problem is they don't have the draft picks. They've traded a lot of their draft picks away, too. But there's not a team in the NFL outside of a handful of teams that shouldn't be looking at getting to Shawn Watson, not the Bears. Any team that needs a quarterback should be looking at the Shawn Watson and I know the price would be high. I know the first round draft picks would be significant, but The end of the day. When you get a quarterback, that's all that matters and you build around him. The Texan said. This metal their team around the quarterback, literally. They have DeAndre Hopkins. He's not happy his relationship with Bill O'Brien not happy out. Let's just trade him for a second round draft pick and we'll take David Johnson back. Ah, high price running back in return. They have screwed so many trades and other personnel moves up. They are where they are today, and they continue to bumble and fumble with their owner, Tommy Boy, aka Tommy Boy, Cal McNair. So we're gonna go straight to the source in Houston..

"And I guess he's coming up at two o'clock to. He follows me at two o'clock. I didn't know that when I reached out to him this morning because I wanted to get an inside. Look at what's going on right now in Houston with Shawn Watson And I could speak to this because being in Philly and doing shows on sports radio 94 Wi PE every day from 2 to 6 with, like with former eagle like Reese. Get caught on a lot to give a perspective from Philadelphia with what's going on with the Eagles or whatever whatever the Philadelphia topic is right. And right now there's a lot going on with the Eagles with Carson Wentz. With Doug Peterson, who just got fired with with their GM Howie Roseman with their owner, Jeffrey Lori. And I always believed that if you really want to know what's going on, you need to speak to the people. That deal with it every day that see every news story that seats that sees every report that comes out from from the great journalist from that particular city, And it's hard for for anybody else to do that, because they, especially for me, because I'm I'm worried about what's going on with the chaos and Philadelphia right now. So it appears from from where we are right now. I mean, this is the This is the bottom line with with the Houston Texans into Shawn Watson. He wants out Right. Like the quote was, he quote just wants out. And that's a big problem. When your quarterback once out and you try to appease him by doing whatever they're trying to do, really, On the back end of things he just wants out and there is a there is something that's that's going on in Houston with with their front office and their owner and their vice president. Football object. Easterby, who is a team chaplain turned NFL Executive. I mean, it's It's amazing. He went from being literally being the team chaplain to another role in the New England front office. Never really in charge of football ops. What was a key figure in kind of Created power in the organization's He was in too now being in Houston and being a major major player, maybe has the most power of anybody in that organization, and I know they just hired a GM this week. The car stereo, but still he is friendly with Jack Easterby. So the problem? The problem for Cal McNair is, and he is the Texans owner and he's the son of the longtime owner, Bob McNair, is that he doesn't see there's a problem. Right, like Sports Illustrated came out with a guy Get sister cover feature. And I mean, I don't. I haven't seen a Sports Illustrated magazine in a long time. Connor agree. My producer e mean, Have you ever read a real sports Illustrated your millennial? Never actually got in the magazine and read it. I have never gotten a magazine. I very rarely have read a newspaper. You know, I really get all my information from tweets. That's about it. Well, I I wish I could rip you for it. But I can't. I know that. They all that stuff's dying out. I remember as a kid waiting for the weekly, the weekly issue of Sports Illustrated to come in the mail could get it weekly. Oh, my God, you get the NFL preview because you didn't get in get information from anywhere else. She had a newspaper at a local newspaper in my hotel. They had the photo of your Daily News and The Philadelphia Inquirer. I would read box scores of all whether it's baseball or basketball or hockey or football. You wait for the next day to read the box score. In the paper and eat my cereal in the morning by the heater vent on the floor, reading the box scores seeing how many points. Dr J scored the night before for the Sixers. So the world has changed, but Sports illustrated, I guess, though, has still has issues that comes out and on the front of the cover. It's Houston has a problem but the text the Texans owner doesn't see it that way. So we're gonna show him Pendergast coming up here at about 1, 15 or sorry about 15 minutes. To talk about it. What is really going on in Houston? Because to Shawn Watson once out, Okay, great. You want out? What does he really want out to where he's willing to say? I'm not going to play. If you don't let me out, and what can we do to solve the issue? Of you wanting out. So even if he does play is he gonna be happy in his head? Is you already out? You know what I mean? They do not have the culture that to Shawn Watson. Once he played collegiately Clemson, where he won a national title and it listen. Alabama claims in Ohio State. They have a winning culture. The Texans do not And a lot of Texans, including some former Texans, and some current Texans thinks that it really started when this Jack Easterby guy arrived in 2000 and 19. So Shawn Watson. I think like with any any franchise quarterback, and they were a bad team this year, and it certainly wasn't because of him. I think any franchise quarterback that's making as much money as they make they get to have a relationship. That's a little bit different with the owner and with the GM. Then let's say the running back or on offensive lineman or a defensive player. Just because they're the highest paid player. They're the most important player in all of sports. The quarterback. And when you have one as good as to Shawn Watson, you wanna make sure you're including him in the decisions? I'm not saying that you allow a player to dictate your moves. And no way should've quarterback be telling you hire this guy hire that guy hired this guy, But he should have input and you should listen to him and include him in the decisions and part of the faint part of the problem with Shawn Watson, is that Houston's have majorly screwed up their franchise by trading one of the best wide receivers in the league while taking a bad contract back and return while making bad trades toe. That's fine, but giving away high first round draft picks, so they have made big mistakes in getting where they are right now, with four wins like you can't You look at the Texans. What Would It Take To Get Deshaun Watson to the Patriots From Houston?

"What would it take to get the Sean Watson? A complete meltdown on the situation in Houston. I just think I think the the odds are very low that extremely low that Nick Acero his first big move in Houston is going to be trade DeShaun Watson. Who's one of the few bright spots on that roster. He's tremendous it would yeah. I mean it was it would basically have to get to a situation where Watson doesn't want to show up. I think I think this area is going to sit down with him and his agent I think they're going to reason he's going to explain why he's not just a continuation of Easter be you know, Brian and things like that. I think Nick can be persuasive. But one thing I would like to see Nick is I would love to see DeSean DeShaun Watson go to Cal McNair and say it's either me or Jack easterby to see what McNair would say cuz I don't know what he would say, but it would certainly be interesting and I'm off. "Of a nationally syndicated radio show. I thank you. Thank you very much. Here's Sean Pendergast. Get to be with all of you on a Sunday evening. I am Sean Pendergast, The Saints getting ready to close things out here fairly soon with the Chicago Bears 2.5 minutes ago, they've got 1/4 and goal. Deep in Chicago territory, 21 3 Saints of the Saints Gonna move on. They will play the Bucks in the next round. That means the Ram's head to Green Bay. So the NFC is set. The A F C will be set once the Browns in the Steelers. Get done tonight. That'll close out a lengthy and fun wild card weekend of footballs. We continue with our football talk here on CBS Sports radio ready to be joined right now by a good friend of mine. Good friend of my show here in Houston. And he's been covering the NFL for over four decades. He has covered every snap of to Sean Watson's NFL career, so I thought nobody better to bring on and chop it up with about two Shawn Watson in the NFL in general. Then the general himself. We call him that here in Houston. John McClane of the Houston Chronicle. Joining me, John. Good evening. How are you? I'm doing like Gianelli is I'm doing Good. Thanks, John. So how big A problem is this to Shawn Watson situation right now for the Houston Texans? Well, it's all being linked anonymously and still is Sean talks about it, or until he Tweets about it. He's not like it was put out there day might sit out the season. Give me a break was because he wouldn't get credit for this season. They wouldn't make it 35 million In 2022. You have to make 10. He's not going to be traded and he's not going to sit out the season. He doesn't even matter. His new GM next stereos one of most Highly respected personnel guys in the NFL. He doesn't know their coach is gonna be and cause stereo comes to Houston with his own list of candidates, and so everything is still up in the air. But It makes good talk show and Internet and online father a time like this, Of course, it gives them people have gone crazy. Yeah, they I mean, I mean, John, you were on Twitter this morning just like I was in. Chris Morton said that his report, which is really, I think, just repeating some of the things that we've already heard about Dish on. So it it sounds to me like what you're saying. Is it for what looked like a five alarm fire this morning. It's a few. It's It's a few fewer alarms than a five alarm fire right now. All this could may and my the fact is, there is no way the Texans would trade to shine launch in no way whatsoever and as far as him being happy. We saw Nick to stereo. I thought he did a terrific job and his son he was articulate. He was humble. He had a sense of humor. He has a plan, and I was very impressed with the way I talk, and I'm guessing when he talks to Watson, he'll be impressed with him and then When they are head coach in the coordinators and the system. Watson will be pleased with that. Just remember, in March of last year, all these things they shine wants must be traded because they traded DeAndre Hopkins and I remember reading one national report predicting he would be playing with New England. This season, so just more of the same, but they strike three clicks, and it's great for attention, but Watson is not going anywhere. John McClane joining me on CBS Sports radio. I mean, John, I agree with you is not going anywhere in party signed that big contract extension, so his leverage from that standpoint is mitigated. But let's assume for a second that he does have some degree of being disgruntled and the reports are that he Didn't get notified when Cus Serial got hired as the general manager. If that's the case that the Sean you know, the his conversations with Cal McNair led him to believe that he would be kept apprised of things. And he found out about the serial on Twitter. Does he have a right to be angry at all? Do you think If that's true, those arm or anonymous sources. I want to hear what I'm saying. He had a sweet when they are to Syria said some things never change. Then he took it down. And I'll say this. And son, This is my 45th. Year of covering enough. L I've never seen a Player consulted on the general manager hire because players don't know what personnel directors air doing behind the scenes coaches he completed. You see the strategy, see? Results because stereos now driving his chip will interview, We watched interview, he'll hire somebody recommend him to the owner, Calvin there, and they all signed off on it. And then it's some point they'll be reached out to watch it. But if Cal McNair told him I will run this by you, and he didn't then he deserves to be upset. Of course, if that's what happened, But I want to you're watching not from anonymous sources. John McClane joining me on the show, John, are you surprised that Eric, The enemy is not getting any interest from the Texans, especially considering that to Shawn Watson has been very open about his feelings of Erik. The enemy has a potential head coach. Watching was open about his decision because he was asking the same car what he thought about him. He praised the heck out of it. I asked him what he thought about Maddie Brook flows he paid, praised the heck out of it, and watching his kind of kids will praise. Everybody if you ask him about it, because that's just who he is. He says His only goal is to win a Lombardi Trophy next to say of that, six of them the six rap because to go with his six rings, and so I think that would be impressed by that. But, um, I think that Sean once it comes back to the country and be awesome back to Houston because he's been out of the country on vacation. That he'll come in and I'll talk to him and talked about the legends and Dade. He's on the ledge. John, you're you mentioned you and I were both on the zoom call with with Nick this area the other day, And it was one of the stranger introductions for a general manager and that there were two questions about to Shawn Watson. That's the answer Reason there was a question about JJ Watt. That makes sense. There were four questions about Jack Easterby, who is an executive vice president of football operations. Who I would imagine a big chunk of our audience may not know unless they read. That s I article that talked about a lot of mistrust behind the scenes with Jack Easterby. How does this Easterby thing play out? Do you think now that kiss stereo is in the building there? Well, I thought there were five questions, not four. But I thought that time there were five. And you may be right. But it was unbelievable that counting there and cause serial red is what really because because Veria didn't sugarcoat it. He worked with used to be for six years, said Jack. Helped him on a personal level about something and their friends and have a good relationship and he will control personnel and hell, he said. We meaning the personnel department. And you happen to be around comic near and Jack Easterby. Just on the off chance that Jack Easterby has a staff with a snake on it. He's pointing it at Cal McNair's eyes. You might want to grab it and just break it. That's all I'm saying. Oh, I'm saying Otherwise, not Dalia. Sure how easy breathe began this old and I'm not sure what's going on. Well, dizzy little Disney joke for free all there. All right, 855 to 12. I'm not joking. 855 to 1 to four. CBS is the phone number. Man just wants it. All right. Don't get this other stuff. If you missed this, there's a lawsuit involving in Anaheim Angels former employee who believes he's been scapegoated for things that have gone on there in his name names as it relates to his allegations. The multiple pictures, including Gerrit Cole, Have used a concoction to put a higher spin right on the ball, in effect cheating. I think the It would be fixing the ball in a similar way to how home run hitters in the steroids era fixed their bodies. The better comparison. Probably like there was a corking your bat. Conspiracy that had the same impact on the game that steroids did. It's not good. Not good. I know I should hit it. I'm well aware that things that are awful pretending they don't exist. Doesn't cure those problems Feel like maybe we all kind of know that now and all kind of See, that's the Case, Um, so we'll talk about it. It's just It's so incredibly depressing. Houston Texans Fire Bill O'Brien as Head Coach

"Texans owner cal McNair has fired bill. O'Brien as coach in GM as of Monday afternoon the. HOUSTON, Texans are on a winless start to the season and. There have been some really questionable trades and other. Moves that Bill O'Brien has made or not made to improve this football team. I think unfortunately, the McNair family who owns the the Houston Texans I think they're seeing a window that is remaining open for a championship as you have to Shawn Watson a very exciting quarterback and you know you've invested on the offensive line, but you got rid of his best weapon in De'andre Hopkins and. Shed some other players Bill Brian is ruffled feathers of players in the past. If. You remember seeing this team on. or seeing Bill O'Brien on hard knocks. He's got kind of a mouth on him and you know it. It fires people up for sure but it also can work against him. Rub some people the wrong way and you know I think it was time for the at least the Texans felt it was time for them to move on but that's that's two vacancies in one their. Head coach and GM. more details to emerge there but that look I mean we can criticize the Bengals in what they've done. Really. Houston's been pretty successful. They've made a lot of at a lot of playoff appearances and they beat the Bengals a couple of times in the playoffs in the Andy Dalton era. So I understand that there's a little bit of envy there but for right now and how They hit what some of the moves they have made of late is really got to be called into question and. You know. Bill Brian now because of those controversial decisions is now out of a job,
