A. R. N. I. V. O. R. A. dot com and welcome back to coast to coast George story with you Steve Stockton with us his latest book of strange things in the woods state board of people pick your books up on Amazon I'm sure you have around on Amazon for now just came out in paperback last week they actually combined publisher combined the first two books which was strange things in the world the more strange things in the woods made it one of volume and then my third book is out in paperback that's my strange world which is my personal encounters and you said something before we went to the break talk about your son here and something running in the woods yes something really heavy I mean he he he didn't think it was a person he didn't think it was a bear he knows animals he didn't think it was a deer but he just said George dad this thing was lumbering around and it just sounded huge our dad like to tell you my experience is very similar if we got a win for you yeah absolutely same area that I grew up only had twenty six acres out in the country and it was all wooded except for five acres heavily wooded heavily wooded and there was an old the ditch line there that I used to play in and found out later it actually been the old dirt roads to their back dating back to the revolutionary war times and the house in the woods with animals up to Chris looking down into the stench and I heard something running in the ladies coming up out of the ditch and I I stepped back and whatever it was I couldn't see it but I could hear it and I could see the effect that it was having on things it was like something was running and again like you're talking about there because the heavy foot grounds verbal writing and it's kicking up leaves in its wake and it was coming right at me but there was absolutely nothing that I could see this was big I mean I could see the little branches in the thing's been locked away and that's well the few times in my life that I've actually been scared there's three cations that that's the first one and I ran back down the hill screaming about years old and I was like it's such a motion my mom actually hardly came out on the back porch to see what was going on I ran past her move in the bedroom and I think I got under the bed yeah dad brother got home from work they went what they could see where the the lease of the store nothing there then the quiz me and I'm so glad I grew up I knew deer and bear and dogs it was nothing that I can say and it wasn't anything small like a mole or groundhog or anything like that because it was affecting the turkeys several feet off the ground and so I stayed away from there for a long time in the end flash forward about another seven years later this again right before we moved from there I was fifteen I was just kind of walk around the whole place I have been the one last look around I walked up there the ditch and same spot look back down in there and I was just thinking I wonder what that one is the scared me when I was a kid and as I turned to walk away I heard a familiar noise something running in the ladies turn around the exact same thing as seven years prior something came up out of that ditch it was running towards me I didn't scream and cry this time but I didn't waste any time get out of there now flash forward about another five years I was working in the west Marshall and the guy that I just know from work ahead of you guys me to a party so I went to the party with didn't know anybody there but him didn't really know him well some of the girls there have found which board and they wanted to get it out but they're messed around with it and they were going around the room asking people different questions when they got to me I thought I've got one for you the way to pose questions what scared me when I was a kid that was didn't nothing else just those words well the the board did showing moved around spelled out two words water right W. A. T. E. R. S. P. R. I. T. E. R. you're looking at me like what is it Sir she doesn't want to drink I just rolled my shoulders this was days before the internet but the next day I went to the library and went to the reference desk tops the reference librarians and what can you tell me about a water sprite or water spirits and she round there look to things up initially came up with a book and now show me a picture of an elemental being called a nightmare which is also known as the water sprite or water spirit it's a feminine elemental guardians of areas because there's some fresh water springs interesting the odd thing about that the properties that we lived on there were seven natural springs on that one property the floated one that flowed into the lake about three hundred yards away what new books you working on now Stephen Hobbs I'm working on one about Mister Rogers of the Great Smoky Mountains have been working on it land company years and put it down my brother passed away and he's all in that bookies because experience if not more so than I am in the legends and lore the Smokies and he was sort of helping me out with some stories and things on when he passed when I showed up for a while but it's it's time to get back on that's what ninety percent finished okay without the summer we'll have you back on when it's done okay great let's take some calls Cheryl is in Texas on the wildcard line sure welcome to the program thank you so much George I'm honored hi Steve hi there that's something to share with the audience it's something that you can say so it's not a ghost but I logged in eight our senior properties for seniors we're all in for collection and they didn't tell us before we moved in here that this used to be a wildlife habitat and I knew the bobcats and coyotes just a few feet from where my apartment S. that's where their damn car and so they were all around the run up on my cat gorge I survived date prior to the attack this year but I cracked my door I'm not sure I'll be here today the first thing you're going to hear is going to sound like a woman screaming and that is a lone coyote and then afterwards I could be in the packs of coyotes this is literally at my front door and so that's what I call the intellect you're listening here at here we go here we go what the world could that the Stephen well I'm not sure which is right about a big cat sometimes typically really big cats like would they have something called a panther although it's not really a painter they will make it sound good sounds very similar to a woman screaming and you talk about something like in the hairs stand up on the back of your neck the out in the middle of the wilderness somewhere in here what might be a screen I mean who knows that there are gas to do that but then it could be somebody screaming as well this could be anything we've heard big foot sounds out there in the woods and everything how about you have you heard any B. even though you've never seen one have you heard something out in the woods that could sound like a big foot yeah particularly here in Washington state just across the river from Portland not too far throw there in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest it's just in the shadow of mount St Helens I've heard some very unusual skips and the owls and it doesn't sound like any animal in the woods that I'm familiar with them I've heard some recordings of things that people report to be big foot and it sounds very similar to what I've heard and it was coming from different areas like one would call in another would answer maybe two more and they sounded described it as a different sizes like maybe one was a male adult the others a female and then there's some of the younger one somewhere and they're answering to first time caller PA in Maryville Tennessee almost year old neck of the woods Steven hi PA your job listing coast to coast since nineteen ninety seven thank you Sir for staying with us so long how do three I grew up in a cage code left thank you notes for their absolutely have left for my mom's family is off from when they immigrated over from your lan and cades cove yeah we'll see a lot of people ordenar I'm eighty two years old so I thought I was south I grew up there I could tell you you better give us one well you're not for there was no school supplies I didn't go to school two three years because they should hold us schools churches for everybody my mother helped me refine you know yeah third a lot of people were you know warm friendship Baptist church I'm sure Steve does I don't yep yeah what happened there execs were we all that's how most people are yeah soon soon sparked some ghostly thing in the cemetery out that way the sparks no but there's a zero thank you leave us with I have the search it's called the thank people used to ride horses out there is darkness this lady jumps on the back of the Ballarat found seven should rise to the got now the next three years to drop off she was a ghost yeah whoa Jerry here that one Stephen yeah I have heard that legend with the rider would feel somebody jump on the back of the whole whole whole whole whole I got to the water and that's the the the legend of the ghost can't cross moving water so should drop off but yeah cades cove in particular and the north shore of Fontana lake are the two most importantly haunted areas in the Smokies for decades ago was got all kinds of other charges would be things going on there in geographically where are exactly the smoky mountains on the border between East Tennessee and western North Carolina India is a widespread area yeah it's it's huge it's very large national park and it just happens to be the most visited national park in the U. S. S. and what makes it so unusual what do you think happened there a long time ago to make it so strange well the Cherokee are all throughout there they've got a story for everything they have a lot of stories about different battles with other tribes and they also believe in the little people there's Cherokee legend of little people in the Smokies like gnomes and fairies and elves and.

Go on good one good have been joined it because my son's getting involved and it's fun once you don't get excited about it and different types of running and stuff like that and he's really enjoyed it. Well let's talk about that. So how does your son. Chris is twelve twelve so I saw a lot of people who may be listening to the podcast. Maybe thinking you know what does the twelve year old do on a bicycle. But there's something that we have here in. Mississippi called Mississippi Blue's mountain biking team and how many how many twelve year olds are on there. It's great sixth through twelfth morally younger. Okay most of them are on because you can actually be high school age and be on the mountain biking team correct. Okay and where do you guys Ryan at. They practice Bicycle the revolution hearing loss and like a spin class that they do every Monday night and then every Sunday we try to do not what practice man walking skills but you know tomorrow there on. Close the trice because everything money right now night. The national traits here in Jackson Mississippi area and then they race against other mountain biking teams. Yes they do in Alabama. There's not a circuit here in Mississippi so the season. There's a rice every the other weekend in the springtime and will be going on there as many as we possibly can. Okay so what about other states. Do you know anything about Tennessee or Louisiana. Louis Theon or Arkansas is just. We're we're kind of like lumped in with Alabama we've We've put together a team that goes on there and rises. Because there's nowhere to arrive here. How many people are on the team here locally? You know I'll say about what the oldest you have any idea. I music like a senior in high school. I don't think so. I think what won't be the oldest one he sixteen sixteen. Say goes from in your son. Chris's twelve so we're looking at a team of a dozen kids between the ages of twelve and sixteen go and compete every couple of weeks at a different race around the around Alabama. Oh yes wow. That's pretty interesting. It's pretty cool. He didn't have anything like that when we were growing up. I don't think now now it was see. How far are we could hit a house with an egg? And and when you when you go over to Alabama how many teams do you race against you have any idea a lot of them. This is his first year to do it. So what we have to come back and give us a reward because if our listeners out there if they have children may be between the ages of twelve and senior high school and ride bikes and might be worth looking into the local bike shop to ask and see if there's any kind of like high school bike riding team or something like that because high schools are doing things. Now that we didn't have we grown up. I mean there's bowling teams. There's archery team us. There's Lacrosse teams James. I mean Cross has been around in of nor for a long time in the south. It's fairly new you know so. There's there's new sports that people are coming into that. We're not we're not familiar with and I'm wondering in a good friend of mine. His son actually is in Mississippi State Bass fishing team new those bass fishing teams in college. It's now high school. Yeah and so. I'm wondering if if there's going to be any kind of thing where you can get like a scholarship for mountain biking or something I west. They have Matt Mike Tapes at collegiate level. Do they're they're more club. Teams like Ole Miss Memphis University. They get cycling teams right the club level but in some of the the school's out West where they don't play football played college baseball basketball. They're starting to get more into the adventure. Sports try on teams cross country. Names actual uh-huh so yeah he's an emerging he's an emerging market is. He sounds like he's right at the edge of the ahead of the wave. It's a very good thing And you can see it on the soccer field. That's the only other sports does and he doesn't WANNA come out. He's never hardly breathing hard. His lungs are ready. Makes me sick. He decided one day he was going to run a half marathon neighborhood that he did. It decided around thirteen miles and he did a screen shot on struggle to ours. I Don I remember the first time I was at agent said I was going to go run down the street. I think major my neighbor's mailbox which was about eight hundred fifty S. Oh that's good so that's one topic that That our listeners may be interested in trying to Look at maybe something for their children about how to get involved as a family or House as butchered your child if they're into mountain biking and it really is it. Is it truly mountain. biking is a mountain biking course cyclocross or gravel bikes or anything like Yeah Martin bike trail riots okay. Mississippi is working towards getting it involves more involved in the misbehaves schools. Sports Association. Okay you start started developing so we'll just take a little time but you got to start someplace same way with the bowling in the bass. Fishing Lacrosse is just hockey with sticks and round balls and they tried to have hockey team at Omega. Three guys trying to try out. Uh All right. Well that's good so let's talk about. Some of our trials and errors of for the past year are still year interview review. So how do you think you're you're writing the this year Jimbo I was might target for this year was three thousand miles and I ended up right around eighteen. Eighteen hundred which was a little bit low Whether early this time of the year kind of set me back. I don't think I logged more than fifty miles from January Kan.. One through the middle of March just because the weather and travel is cold. I don't like riding in cold weather. I love cold weather but I don't like writing it when my finger and does start getting cold. I'm done. It's miserable for me now. I graduated from wrong. Did you do any writing in the mountains of Tennessee last year I did not. I didn't get a chance to take the bike up and do cades cove and enrolled around the Gatlinburg severe Valeria. Take it back. I did one ride with the local bike shop in an MBA and three in. I realized pretty quick and I'm a flat-lander were riding through some of the most treacherous busy roads roots and these guys are flying through cars or two or three feet away from us. This is in Tennessee. This was in survival but these guys knew they were done. Kept me safe pretty much. Might my mom is freaking out. You Know Semis won't buy me on a two lane road But it was. It was enjoyable. It was only about a twenty mile. Ride I had a hard time keeping up with them because they knew the terrain. I didn't know my gearing on some of the hills but on the way back we're coming into a headwind and these guys made I'm six four.

And they're going to rebuild every single building in the United States upgrade or replace every building. In the United States with state of the art energy efficiency. They'll also end all traditional forms of energy in the next ten years. The ten year plan will mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War Two zero greenhouse gas emissions. The plan to ban nuclear nuclear energy within ten years. They're also going to build trains across oceans and end about this all air travel. Bellio. Wow. You're not going to Denver anymore unless you're walking. Because you can't drive a car because it runs on Gaz or the electric car. It will take you five days to get there. That's not good. We're going to see your mom again. With the pressing. Yes. Yeah. So depressing. Leave now and not come back. Well, they're going to build trains across oceans and end air travel that seems simple. Yeah. I mean, just you know by a couple of years, and I don't know how they're gonna do. But they're going to they're going to build out high speed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary. Well, maybe you can still get around. But you're not gonna fly. And I don't know how much it's going to cost. But it might be expensive. Well, we'll see if they can do it. If they could do a great if not then you can still fly those are the two options either they'll have it successful where you can take the high-speed train everywhere or just get an a plane again and buzzer up. It's up to you. All right. Very good. There's a big story coming out of I think Montana where a. A guy was buzzing around in the woods, and he got a little too high on methamphetamines, and he was eaten by a bear. Oh boy. Let's find out what happened to this chap here. He took a little too much meth. So so the great smoky mountains now releasing the autopsy report of a man found dead of the park this past September. Yeah. The report shows Williams Lea hill junior died of accidental meth intoxication accidental meth intoxication he dies, and then a bear each his s Neff intoxication is body was found September ninth off trail close to rich mountain road. That means after this dude died us eaten by a bear. Now evidence of wildlife scavenging of the remains was visible to the searchers an adult male bear remained in the area at bear. By the way, demonstrated aggressive behavior. Several hours is Rangers work to recover hills body, a biologist trap the bear recovered human DNA from it. And then eventually euthanize the animal that sucks, right? The bear was just doing what bears. Do you know if there's somebody dead there? The does. No, it's a human or or, you know, an antelope or whatever a goat, and that's not fair. The bare just ate the dude. Yeah. You know, what I'm thinking did the bear give buzzed. I was gonna ask. How is the bear? When he the guy all the mess because this is like a human, you know, pot, brownie. He's he's all hopped up on math. And I wonder if the bear them was on meth bear is loving it. That's. Is he getting meat, but he's also getting methamphetamines and bears methamphetamine there bears biologist trapped the bear recovered human DNA from it. And then eventually euthanize the animal now, according to the autopsy there was evidence of extensive animal activity windings of trauma before or during time of death, meaning hill was not attacked by a bear. "And of course, you can also watch us on twitch we have studio cams. So you can watch the show on action. We don't have jazzy no jazzy Cam tonight. Usually jazzy the studio dog is appearing on twitch to be you can find that at twitch dot L dot FM. And we're taking your calls tonight. My name is Chris my name is Vincent. And I'm will. And we've been talking about lots of stuff tonight. But the one story we've been trying to work our way through has to do with the Senate passing the Bill that rebukes Trump and opposes Israel boycotts. And Vincent has been telling us about that you want to recap a little bit about what's going on. Yeah. Definitely. Yeah. Yes. Please. Go ahead recap. Oh, I'm sorry. This. You're letting me be the recap. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Now, I like your recaps. Oh, okay. So the so it was at first they got bipartisan support bipartisan support. But because. They it has like the accusation in their the implication vet for Republicans are trying to split the Democrats with this Bill between the pro Israel old guard of the democrat party and envy. Anti is anti Israel. Quoting what's your nuanced issue? New the young Turks sodas, so to speak, and they and so Democrats also so by as responsive at Democrats van agreed with Trump like believe Bernie Sanders was mentioned agreed with agreed with Trump of to that with pulling out of Afghanistan in Syria. So love him or hate him. Trump is certainly shaking things up in Washington. Certainly has been shaken things up love him or hate him. The the country's almost it's tilted against Trump. I was gonna say love him or hate him. I think it's something like sixty sixty percent opposed. Even even. Set of media CBS poll after the state of the union address showed like sixty four favorability. Are we talking about the same Donald Trump for the speech? Yeah. And he was like all rainbows and puppies. It's like an Coulter tweeted out, you know, trae, gee, it's so difficult. You know, Trump came out against cancer child cancer came out against the holocaust, real hard issues, drafted real device stuff. Yeah. God. But that's that's what we have. Now. What we have is a polarized, polarized Washington. The the idea that we could have civil discourse between Republicans and Democrats. That's that's a decade old thing. We have a president that represents the population of the country. I'm sorry. Nobody really wants to admit the foul. No. No. No. I think you're exactly right. He's totally a representation of the of the greater culture of this country. Uninformed opinionated rude crass wants to be famous. So what changed what change because it was not always like this Americans became obsessed with wanting to be famous you think that's something happened in the culture with reality TV where our narrowing narrowing it down. Okay. Where you know, everybody got their opportunity. I mean, remember member the I boy. Like he got famous because they were mean to him because he was physically unattractive. And he got to be famous for a while you got to be on Conan. And he got to be like an extra character on Conan for like, three months. What I find most disturbing. I don't I don't. I'm not disparaging your your comment, but doesn't just say how shallow we are as a species when like up until like the sixties and the seventies where you had like your news shows there were three of them. I think and that's where people got their news. And there wasn't like a huge amount of spin in any direction. It just was kinda there. But then news became twenty four hours a day began retainment became it had to become entertainment because you had twenty four hours of news. And let's face. It news is not the most exciting thing to watch. And the idea of if you're an area myself, you know, your best with it, of course. But this was never really a thing. News came on at six o'clock, it came on at seven o'clock, and it came on again at ten or eleven or something like that. But now we're confronted by twenty four hours a day. And and how do you fill those hours the only way to make it more interesting to get more viewers is to sensationalize the news. The problem is we as humans we've fallen for this hook line, and sinker. And I really do think there is some some some similarities something happened that pushed us over the edge to where we quit talking civilly. That's that's gone thing. I mean when I was growing up. I remember my dad who was a staunch Republican telling me he was gonna vote for a democrat. And I didn't think anything of it. He's like, oh, I like that guy. The shock jocks also had something to do with it. I think it's you know, it's not you. You can't just point and say, that's the thing that did it. No, no. Of course, not many things. I'm gonna say Nixon was the beginning of it. The death of Kennedy the end of Camelot that whole thing was the beginning. And then from there the society is just slowly been. Did you know like the stitching is plucked? You just that one loose thread a little at a time. Yes. And. Davies race. They've used Jin. There's like four topics, and they just keep cycling them if you haven't noticed chair, you know, like when Obama was an office everything was about race. Now, Hillary got beat so everything is about gender. Everything's misogyny for everything is how women are so oppressed in a society where the courts side with them ninety percent of the time. Yeah. But but then we don't get enough mileage out of that. So we have to in that case actually come up with new genders newel. Yeah. Yeah. We have to come up with new gender. So we can create victims outta then. And that's that's really what it comes down to who is the newest victim that we have to defend and during all this all this bread, and circuses, which is all it is you're being asked to lend your support to to one or two groups of people the pretty much say the same thing false dichotomy. It is centrist like moderately, centrist, right wing, communists, and ultra right-wing communists, and that you have here. I mean, that's your choices buddy. Think about that. America will just accused your politicians probably some you really like as either being moderate, right wing communists, more extreme rightwing communists. Is there any real difference? And what is that the Cortes is the most moderate of the right wing communist because they're all like to me. Oh, dear God seriously, just to be conservative. Okay. Conservative means. You like old ideas? Right. Okay. Well, there's nothing more conservative then preaching hundred and fifty year old failed ideas, what socialism is it's one hundred and fifty year old failed idea. So she's not a progressive progressive is I want new ideas. That's what right progress is. New and you're offering isn't progress. You're offering old recycled ideas that we've already proven don't even work right, but progressivism Pino with dawn of the twentieth century. I mean, they brought in new ideas, they wanted to take a scientific look at things. Here's one of the things that I know that Woodrow Wilson and teddy Roosevelt were both big fans of and that was eugenics. How can we get rid of some of these undesirable people? How can we work my hours? Those people my ancestors were those people teddy Roosevelt literally came in and stole had it not been for the fact that my my family got land in the civil war, right? Our farm that was there that was left. There would have been forcibly taken from us. My family came from cades cove, which is now a national park and teddy Roosevelt had this brilliant idea. Win at any confiscated everyone's farms by force tore them all down and that had the government build replica. Good. Thank you. It was great and what a great make work program to. Yeah. And that that was teddy Roosevelt progressivism to come in to poor farming areas. Areas where you dirt poor farmers who were on the verge of being sharecroppers and kicked them off their farms and turn them into sharecroppers. That was his wonderful grand plan for America was create more more poverty. That's what progressivism has really been doing ever since then and another one of those big ideas that the progressives were embracing was the miracle that is Russia all the amazing things that are happening under communism. And they were saying these things while communism was a inside becoming what communism does fine. Does does happen to be in that his millions and millions of people dying eight fifty five four fifty free. We're going to be back, and we're going to be back talking about a couple of different things. But we want to hear from you. Eight fifty five four fifty free. This is free talk live..

"Because at that point you can't bring in like a specialist or tracker. This tract single movements of the six year old boy, you Ardy screwed up the scene but Brennan in that many people. And sometimes you'll see in cases of specially a younger child that they bring in tracker before they bring in search units. Right. That's interesting that you say that because you're exactly right, you would have. What did we say? Two hundred forty people just kind of destroying the scene, right, right. Comping all over the area on day three, Monday, June sixteenth, the trail and drainage searches continued an intensive grid search of Spence field was conducted several military helicopters arrived to assist the news media arrives on the scene, and we have forty special forces troops arrived to help as well. Two bloodhounds are brought in and they are used during day three again probably would be more helpful on day one or two because we have now two hundred and some sense that are get in the way of this dogs work. Yeah, after all that rain as well. And then we have the Red Cross that establishes a food service operation for searchers at cades cove. Now, the total number of people involved in day three was three hundred including personnel from the park, a local rescue squad, the Air National Guard. And as we said, forty special forces troops that brings us today four captain June seventeenth. Now, this is an interesting day because at this point we've had no sign of the little boy. However, at two thirty in the afternoon, a set of one shoe on and one shoe off prince are found at this time. So the shoeprint was possibly of an Oxford type shoe. What Dennis was last seen wearing now they followed for three hundred feet until they came to the edge of a branch that feeds eagle creek in North Carolina. Eagle creek feeds, Montana lake ten miles from Spencer field, even after three inches of rain having fell. These tracks were still intact in the mud investigators did not examine the shoeprint finding in detail because the area had already been searched. The footprints could have been overlooked by previous searchers, because it was mentioned repeatedly that there were no footprints all. All over from searchers. The person who found the print used a stick to measure its size in comparison to an adult print. It is noted that there were no small children involved in the search at the time. So what does this mean this a means when you teach out of the same measure? Well, what this does mean is that they can -cluded that it's a child's footprint right? That it's a small footprint. One shoe is on and one shoe his off, correct. And there are no children involved in the search. The weird thing though, like we just said is they did not investigate this finding because the area had already been searched and they found no prince. They believed that they found no prince when they originally searched this area. Yeah, that's strange. Seems like a misstep, their one hundred percent and the scary thing for me and this is you say the tracks are leading towards a river, they're leading towards water. Yes, yes. And then I'd wanna know how deep that water. Was and because if Dennis tried to cross this water, Dennis could drown in the water. Well, what we have here captain is we have several creeks that are flowing into this font Tana lake mur-, Fontana lake. So this lake is huge it. This is not a small body of water. This is a very large lake. So if if we have this heavy rainfall that occurs now we have the sweeping creeks and streams that have strong currents that are leading to this large body of water..

"Ninety minute walk east. I couldn't find an exact time, my guess is it would be sometime that morning they'd make this walk. It's about an hour and a half walk there there. Now this new spot and they've set up camp. They've spent the day setting up their camp, right? This is the time where we're relaxing were chilling out. The kids are playing, you know, there's no work to do. We're just going to hang out and chill. The kids are playing this hide and seek game running in and out of the woods running around having a good old time. Now they come up with this idea to kind of prank the the parents. But what's we. Weird and one thing that I can't like get over like when we cover cases and there's those moments where you wonder, if if other people feel guilty about something or if somebody second guesses, one of their own personal actions for the rest of their lives. The moment for me is this, we have four boys, three of them decide to hide together and an area and one boy, he's only six Dennis's only six. He's hiding by himself. Now from what I could find captain, it seems like. Dennis was wearing a, we know that Dennis was wearing a red shirt and what it seems like is that one or all of the other boys had suggested that Dennis go hide by himself because he could be easily spotted with his bright red shirt in that area. So he's off hiding by himself. These other three boys are all together. They jump out and it's like, you know, at first is probably like, oh, you got me, and then you kind of wait and you wait and wait. You know, where's Dennis Wise? He not with you guys. And then the boys are saying, hey, he went over that way and he hit by himself. And Now Dan and grandpa are out walking around calling for Dennis's name you. You know how it is. You just explained it right there, but when you call out your child's name when you screaming, hey, you know, you expect him to come running out or at least hear him call back to you on. Like I said, there's multiple reports that say that Dennison. His father saw him go into the woods, kind of watched where he's going to go. Hi, that's where he's going to go hide. Then obviously, because they're playing a game, you pull your eyes off of him. Brian, I guarantee you that he sees that image of his son going into the woods over and over and over and his mind. Well, and you never think you never would expect to look away just for seconds, maybe a minute or two, and then they're gone by. And so let's walk through this because the official search would begin Saturday, June fourteenth at approximately eight thirty pm. This is after the grandfather notifies the Park Rangers that, hey, my grandsons missing, and we've been looking for him me and his father as well as other people, and we can't find him. And obviously they have some things working against them because of the time this took place didn't have cell phones to make calls. I don't even know if cellphones will work there now, but some. I'm way to alert people and stay in the area and have you know the dad, the grandfather, the kids searching why they have helped coming to find, you know, help find this kid. So from the the start of this search at eight thirty, we have three Rangers from cades cove. There are checking trails to and from cades cove all the way out to Spence field and anybody that they come across a long their way. They're going to, you know, some have said interrogate some say question, whatever, right? But any hikers or anybody that they pass on these trails, they're going to ask them, hey, have you seen a boy? What have you been doing? Where were you at this time? So on and so forth. And this produces Adam, this produces nothing. Now, the other thing we have to keep in mind though is there's a heavy rainstorm and when I say heavy rainstorm I mean two and a half inches of rain fell. And this occurred at dark all the stream. Became very high..

"Friday, June thirteenth, nineteen sixty nine, six year old. Dennis Martin was on his first overnight camping trip. This was part of a long standing Martin family tradition of Father's Day outings in the smokies with him. His nine year old brother, Doug his father who was a Knoxville architect. His name is Bill Martin and his grandfather CLYDE Martin. The group spent the first night in a location called Russell field, and they camped with Dr Carter Martin of Huntsville, Alabama and his two sons Russell field is a grassy clearing in the forest with a panoramic view across the smokies the next day, June fourteenth, the group went east on a ninety minute walk to a spot called Spence field. Some quick specifics of Spence field. There were two shelters located there. Now the Appalachian trail, ROY. Runs east and west through Spence field, and there were two trails and one Jeep road that lead to Infrom Spence field to other destinations there at approximately four thirty PM the four boys were playing a game of hide and seek and grassy area of Spence field, and they thought it would be funny to hide and then sneak up and scare the adults in their group Douglas and the other two boys went south and then west little Dennis by himself headed for a spot to the northwest towards the Appalachian trail and into the force. Yeah. And he went into the forest, but his father saw where he went to hide. Literally a few minutes later, the boys jump out of the woods. You know, in an attempt to scare or startle the adult. Ha got, however, Dennis does not jump out of the woods. He does not appear, and he was nowhere to be seen very shortly. The after the adults would ask to mate ten minutes. So at approximately four forty pm, just a few minutes had passed without anyone spotting or hearing Dennis his father. Bill Martin was calling out to Dennis and looking for him. Obviously, Bill then followed the Appalachian trail west for about a mile before heading back and then he headed west again, this time all the way back to Russel field only to return a loan to Spence field, and there's no sign at all. Dennis, there was nothing of his. It was found during this quick search while the boys father was making his journey, the grandfather CLYDE made his way back down Anthony creek to cades cove roughly eight and a half miles and reached the ranger station shortly before eight thirty PM. This was to summon help. And at this point it began to rain very heavily with a very nasty storm. Well. Every parent will know, this is your worst nightmare. You can be in the grocery store and you turn in your child's not there, and it's like your heart sinks all the way to bottom of your gut well, and I want everybody to kind of picture this.
