"I'm not looking for Cade McNown for those you don't remember when Cade was a rookie, and they drafted him in the first round. Didn't matter who started how that quarterback was doing the first two series. They would placate McNown the third series of every game, and it didn't matter how Caid played if Kate led them on a 10 play drive. He would not get the fourth series. Um if you went home if he went three and out, and there were three runs, he would not play the fourth series. So It was just kind of weird. They were trying to get him experience I am saying is a quarterback. If you don't want Justin Fields to bite off more than he can chew as a starter, there are still ways that you can have him, be the quarterback learn and give you the best chance to win on that particular play. Because of his skill set. His throwing ability is running ability. Many different reasons. Why this isn't I'm not looking for tricks. This isn't like a trickeration thing. This is like listen to Sean McVeigh. This is one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL. Preparing for the Bears offense would be naive for us not to prepare for them to be able to utilize him in some form or fashion. But And he's a winning quarterback in this league does a great job. I really have seen a lot of film of Andy even going back to when Jay Gruden was his coordinator at Cincinnati so very familiar with what a really good quarterback he is. He does a great job. Accurate anticipation recognizes the looks defensively can straighten up protection. So Andy Dalton is a really good quarterback, and it'll be a great challenge. And then you see the ways that Justin, you know, made a lot of players going back to his career at Ohio State. What he showed in the preseason. And so I think you got to be ready for for either or but it's gonna be a challenge for sure. So he started by saying it be naive like you believe both of them. I would probably play ball horse and and I do believe there will be a Justin Fields package that will be at their disposal. You believe Sean McVeigh when he says, Oh, yeah, we're gonna We're going to prepare for for Justin Fields package. But then you don't believe him when he goes into this long about dark. He's gonna put it in the end zone. That's what's going to happen. And and then have to sit down down with that 10 minutes because he don't play. He has a lot of confidence. The reality of the situation is he will be he will be inserted in the lineup when the team starts losing regularly, and the offense isn't doing anything and Andy Dalton isn't able to give them a spark. That may happen in week two, and they happen in week three. It may happen for them to make the change in week four. I'm not expecting Status quo to remain in place for an extended period of time. Like we've talked a lot about when he may they may stick with Andy Dalton for nine weeks. I find it really unlikely. Would never rule anything out with this crew, but I find it highly unlike first of all, I don't think that they're going to be six and three or 72 or five and four. For that matter. There's going to be a game when like when Foles came in that they're going to need a rally. And he may get that opportunity when they are down like the car doesn't want to see, but that's when usually things aren't going well. The offenses stagnant Can the kids sort of Bring everything together. And if he does, can he stay in the game? Now? I do agree with the assessment or the You know the statement that this offensive line I get it. They're never going to be an upper echelon offensive line. There's a really good chance they'll be better in week three barring injury than they are right now. Jason Peters has not played football for better than a year German of Fatty missed 90% of training camp. He got hurt in the in the conditioning test. It's not. It's not promise. It's not promising. But my point is, is that they will get better when they are in better football shape. Now there is a ceiling to how good that line can be. But you can't tell me that they won't be better in week three against the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland, and they are in week one against the Los Angeles Rams in Los Angeles. It just makes sense. This has been building for the last couple of years. This is what Chip Kelly has been trying to do in establishing his program and the talent he wants out there. And it's not a bunch of five star and four star. It's not even a top five recruiting class every single year. It's a really good recruiting class every single year with guys that fit his style his system and he can coach them up. And that's exactly what Him and his coaching staff have done and one of our previous scholars talked about Brian Norwood, who they brought in from Navy is the passing game coordinator and DBS coach and Jerri as an arrow is still the defensive coordinator. But I think it works hand in hand. I mean, Brian Norwood brought that. What the 4 to 5 style defense that they run and the confusion they put out there, So it's a collaborative effort. You know, Jerry has a narrow is a different defensive coordinator. And certainly you know it gets a lot of credit has taken a lot of blame over the last couple years with Chip Kelly. But certainly he's got a great staff around him. And they have coached these players up guys or another year faster. Another year stronger another year in the system. And defensively they looked really good tonight against L s u And maybe the hurricane. Maybe the travel Maybe the All that combined did factor a little bit with L s u Well, let's not take away from this U C l A win. That's still a top 20. L s u team That's still a team with five stars everywhere on that roster and guys who or highly recruited and top five recruiting classes and were sought out by everybody and went to LSU and will probably playing on Sundays. Playing in the NFL right now, 13 left and were drafted and played in the NFL this last year and are still there a lot of players a lot of talent. But Major league Baseball stepped in and put him on a seven day uh will be leave of work while they do and continue their investigation. Into the sexual start assault charges that have been levied against him, Um at 10 o'clock we have Bobby marks, ESPN NBA insider. Now that we have a NBA finals. Situated in all set between the Phoenix Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks, who are going to go ahead to head starting tomorrow night in Phoenix at 10 20. Terry Donahue, the the wimpiness U. C L when he is U C. L A and Pac 12 football coach ever. Passed away yesterday at 77. He served as the general manager for the San Francisco 49 ers as well later in his career, Um he was battling, uh, Cancer had been struggling with that for the last two years. Terry was instrumental person in my football history. There were many, many reasons why, but one is he recruited me to go to U C L A. And, um Was extremely interested in it. And I had a visit scheduled and it was. It was the day of the Rose Bowl 1994. So it was January 1st 1994. And I was at home watching the game It was between UCLA, Uh The team coached by him in the Wisconsin Badgers. And in the grandeur of the Rose Bowl stadium, you know, as the sun was setting with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background, one of the most beautiful venues, uh, in college sports and my phone ring. And it was the head coach of Washington State University, Mike Price. And he asked me what I was doing. And I said, Well, I'm watching the Rose Bowl coach and he said, I'll make you a deal. If you come here. Um You and I will play in that game together. And I hadn't done any research. So I didn't realize that Washington State hadn't been to the Rose Bowl since 1931. Um, but What he was selling. I bought it hook line and sinker. In that moment, I mean, I marched into Mom and Dad's bedroom. And I told them I was going to Washington State. And over the next few days, I cancelled trips to Oregon. Uh, you see, LA And, uh, I can't remember where I canceled the other the other trip. I think it might have been, uh, Colorado. And Remember when Coach Donohue called after I canceled the trip, and, uh And he just asked me, you know, ask me why, you know why don't you want to come down and check out Los Angeles? I grew up here. It's It's amazing. You'll love Westwood. I said, coach, I just, You know, I just coach price just Laid it out for me and I trust him and I believe in him, and I think I'm making the right choice. He asked me what I had said. Or what coach price that said, And he said, if you come here, um Um Will play in that game together as I was watching the Rose Bowl, and he kind of stopped me and then says, and he goes Ryan, I would have loved to call you. I would have loved to a college you but we were actually playing in the game. And he was exactly right. So, um It's a funny anecdote now. Um U C L A would he would leave the job in 95, so ultimately, I wouldn't have been coached by him for a couple years before he moved on to the NFL and Bob Toledo took over that U C L a team and had a very successful career. Uh Especially with Cade McNown at quarterback, and Skip Hicks is running back, but, uh.

Conner McKnight has your play by play White Sox in Kansas City. The Cubs won today. They have won four in a row. They swept the Dodgers and they held on today at Wrigley. Highest score of 3 to 2. We were just talking about the Mike Holmgren interview that lead. I think it was the one of the leads on SportsCenter at five, talking about Aaron Rodgers and how poorly it's been handled. From the Packers and how they never would have, Holmgren said. When he was there, he never would have let it get to that. But I think the message that I got from Mike Holmgren is is that communication is key here. Like He's not going to give away the farm in terms of allowing the player to completely dictate policy. I think what he was intimating is at least how I interpreted. It is a things are different now than they were back in the Joe Montana Steve Young Days and B. You have to be able to communicate along the way, he said, And during the course of that interview that he didn't think the Packers handled it very well. And my interpretation of that was they did not communicate with Aaron and some guys need to be talked to more than others. Some guys need to be Stroked a little bit more than other guys do like Aaron Rodgers. If Aaron Rodgers wants to have a conversation with people and be and once that line of communication to be open, they should be willing to have that line of communication open and have those talks with him. He's Like like, Holmgren said in Holmgren's an old school guy, But you can't treat everybody the same. It's just that's just unrealistic. We could sit here and just be like everyone gets treated the same 53rd guy on the roster. The best guy on TV, that's just ridiculous. That's not the way life is. I like Aaron Rodgers and I'm pro Rogers in this argument. But do you think one reason the Packers didn't tell him they could draft a quarterback in the first round? Is that he could have leaked that and not been happy about it and then leaked it. And then a team who could have been interested in Jordan love they would have jumped the Packers or no, I know. You know, I don't believe that. I think it should have been just common courtesy. Very everything's on the table, regardless of what it was. Hey, you know what? We're going to draft a quarterback here. Or we're looking or even with Jake Kumerow, the wide receiver like, look, they no, like I told you the stories from some of the people up there about you know, he's he's a An awesome player at times.
