Are Americans Ready for Another Trump Presidency?
"All right, mister Rama Swami, you've heard the interview. What do you make? Of him. Well, you know, first of all, he sounds like a really interesting and appealing fellow and you just absolutely butchered his first name over and over and over again. It takes me, I've got audio dyslexia. That is not new to say archbishop chapu. You're easy. Byron York is easy. I wish everyone at the bill or something. One of the things that strikes me is the U.S. government is the most sprawling complex bureaucracy in the world. Yes. It's very hard. That many people who have really a good grasp of how the U.S. just the executive branch, how it works. The Pentagon itself is the most sprawling complex bureaucracy. In the world. And I think you could say that one of Donald Trump's great failures, maybe his greatest failure. Is that he came into office with a lot of governing instincts that a lot of Americans agreed with. But he didn't try to understand how the U.S. government works and how he could push it in one direction or another. Which was particularly important for Republican because so much of the bureaucracy is going to be opposed to him. And you have to try to reach deep into the bureaucracy. You can't just appoint a cabinet secretary and decide that you've now got the Justice Department going in the direction you want it to go or any other cabinet department. It's a really big complex thing and I do think that American Trump's time in office has probably soured some Americans on the idea of a businessman running for president.

"I get to the Pelosi, I just wanted to play this first because it's so completely ridiculous and so indicative of where we are with the Biden administration right now where they really do expect you to just embrace the sock. It's a term we used to use in my prior line of work when things are really bad. You just get used to them sucking and that's sadly what's happening to America right now. Someone sent me a turn from sociology or psychology during the break on Facebook. I forget what a kind of bias where people just they embrace the horror and they just don't think it's going to get any worse so they're just, they just accept it. I'm sorry, I forget what the term was. But that's where we are now. And I don't know what it's going to take to wake people up, but the litany of lies coming from the Biden administration is not helping. Here's my yorkis, the DHS secretary. I mean, the guy's just a disgrace, folks. I don't know what else to say here. The guy's just an embarrassment. I mean, he runs a department literally called the cabinet department called the Department of Homeland Security. While he presides over a border that has never been opened, this open at any point in human history. We're going to have by the time the Biden administration leaves office. Probably upwards in the neighborhood between, got aways and people who have been caught coming in. Probably the upwards in the neighborhood of 10 million people in the country who shouldn't be here. Here's my orcas yesterday. I mean, again, they just cojones on the sky up on Capitol Hill, suggesting yes that the border is in fact secure. I mean, this is just a kick right in the Johnson to anybody who was listening. Check this out. Do you continue to maintain that the border is secure? Yes, and we are working day in and day out to enhance its security congressman. The folks, one, the answer should have been no the border is not secure because it's not. That's obvious. But he's not doing squat. He's not doing Jack squat and Jack left town. What is he doing to secure the border? Anyone? Anyone. Okay, nothing. That's what he's doing. Squat. Oh yeah, wait, wait, oh no, sorry. Yeah, I thought I heard some of the edges says it's crickets. Yeah, sorry about that. I just wanted to throw that out there. Because this is how they get you to embrace the suck by lying to you. Inflation adds chance to the border. Oh, it's secure. Afghanistan, the greatest logistics operation in the history of humankind. And liberals accepted. No, they don't. Yes, they do. They voted for it. All right, I got to play this news report. This is the Bay Area for NBC. Local NBC, not national NBC. Like NBC nightly news with Lester all this is a local NBC Allen. Thanks to them doing bizarrely some actual journalism again, an NBC outlet. People are starting to ask real questions about this Paul Pelosi attack. Again, I'll say for the thousandth time, hope the guy gets better, got it? Mean it. I don't like to see me get it with a hammer. Okay, it's a funny, however, it's a national story for a reason. And one of the reasons it's a national story is because he happens to be the husband of one of the most powerful women on Planet Earth, Nancy Pelosi. So if it was a politically motivated attack, regardless of it's a, if it's a pro or a pro or an anti conservative narrative, I don't care. I want to know true. I don't care if it hurts conservatives or whatever. I don't care. I just want the truth, right? I don't play these games in liberal media people do. And the story we're initially told that some maga lunatic broke in and smashed this guy with a hammer in a politically motivated attack, hey, maybe true. But if it's true, why does everybody keep lying to us? And if it's true, why can't we see the body camera footage? And if it's true, why is the Department of Justice lying in their paperwork? The Department of Justice, and I believe the San Francisco DA's office filed different sets of paperwork in their charging documents. But they told two completely different stories about who answered the door. Now folks, I will disagree with the NBC News reporter here. This is not a seemingly innocuous fact here who answered the door. If Paul Pelosi was under attack by a deranged maga loving hammer bearing lunatic, then why did the guy let him answer the door? Guys, listen, I'm not messing with me. It's not that I was a cop at one time that ASC's questions just that I'm a sane person. Who knows? Maybe the guy was that crazy that he let him answer the door because he's a crazy person, possible. Certainly possible. But why do you keep hiding this fact? And why is the DoJ characterizing who answered the door differently than the San Francisco DA's office when we know there's body camera footage that could clear it up and yet we still haven't seen it? Because if you're a deranged political assassin trying to kill the guy, you're not going to let him answer the dorm when someone knocks and says police. Right? Am I crazy? Okay, Jim shaken has had no. Here, listen to the local NBC reporter, asking some pretty common sense questions. Check this out. Well, just this all has to do with the moments. Seconds, really, just before pop Pelosi was struck in the head with a hammer inside his San Francisco home. Now there continues to be contradicting accounts of a relatively simple question. Who opened the door that night when San Francisco police arrived to the Pelosi house

Caller: 'Schedule F' Is a Great Plan
"Touch, just to kind of reinforce what you were saying earlier. I heard about that schedule F plan. I guess it was maybe Friday. They talked about it on Steve Bannon. Joe Scarborough had somebody on MSNBC talking about it, but I think that is a great plan. I've been thinking about that for a long time and just hope now, but it's going to be implemented. And along with that, you mentioned about doing away with some cabinet departments, like the Department of Education, you know, I'd like to see that extend maybe some other departments that are unnecessary elected apartment of energy. I mean, I can think of the Department of Homeland Security. A lot of these agencies that need to be reformed from the top down such as the FBI, CIA, DoJ, all of that. But Todd, what concerns me and listen to the congressman is something else that I think the Republican Party in the upcoming elections needs to do when I don't see them doing it. And we're just talking about this Friday. I don't see a new contract with America like we had in 1994. It's not enough just to win the midterms and recapture the House and the Senate, but we need to dominate in the way we need to do that is I think to have a contract with America and have every Republican whether then Oregon, Oklahoma, whether you're in South Carolina or South Dakota to sign on to that. And I think it needs to focus on a few things. One, the economy, inflation, the southern border, energy independence, crime, and then lastly, the culture. And reaffirming our commitment to the constitution and the Bill of Rights. Because I voted for a lot of Republicans since 1980 and I can't tell you how many ones I've been disappointed in case in point most recently in 2020 with Tom tillis in two years before that was Richard burr. Dave Wilson there with our speaking of things. That sound great with our small caps, report. Speaking of things that sound Well, maybe not so great. Yeah, this one little bit disturbing. Leslie Patent joins us right now from Bloomberg News. Leslie, you got a story out about KFC and full disclosure. I love fried chicken, betting that Americans want fried chicken made from plants. I don't know if that's a good bet, is it? Well, it's very trendy right now to be talking about plant based So I think a lot of a lot of that is driving it. But at the same time, I mean, aren't we talking about different people, The people that trend towards plant based and the people that trend towards KFC aren't those two very different groups of people. Well, KFC doesn't think so. They think there's at least some overlapping. They're you know, they're not saying it's never going to take over for fried chicken, not even going to be the majority of the market, but they want to have something there. To give customers that option is this faux meat thing and faux chicken Now, I guess. Is this it a demographic thing, Leslie? Is it more kind of the younger folks trending this way? Yeah, That's what that's what camp. He has told me that it's the younger crowd who feels a little bit better. Maybe eating this way. So they're looking to capture that younger crowd who will be coming of age and have more spending power in the future. Obviously. So I think that's what's driving. A lot of it also. So, um, What are we talking about? Like a chicken sandwich made with plant meet. Are they going to try and actually replicate, you know? Real fried chicken breasts is going to be the same shape, but just a different substance. Well, the gold standard I'm told is like a chicken like a whole muscle piece of chicken. So not like A chicken nugget, this all shaped and kind of like mashed together. That's not what they want to do. They want to do something that whole muscle that kind of like tears and pulls apart like a chicken tender from kind of like Of fans here, you know, like like a bar restaurant type place, maybe maybe even a sit down place, So that's what they're really trying to replicate with this. They haven't really brought anything out to the masses yet. They've done some tests, but we're kind of just waiting to see if they're going to have something. At a national scale or not. Would they be the first in the chicken category? Or is Chick fil a beating them to the punch, so to speak? Well, they would be the first one to do what I think on a national basis. Yes. It's interesting, and I mean, we've seen this with other fast food. Non chicken fast food restaurants are I mean, I see I know. At least Burger King has got a fake meat burger, and I'm assuming that all the other ones do too. Yeah, That's right, you know? So so there are some tests right now, it seems like especially in the U. S market. There are a lot of companies kind of dipping their toes and this feeling it out, seeing what sells what doesn't sell, and I think a lot of it is really geographic specific. So we're going to see more tests, whether this stuff really sticks or not. I think it kind of remains to be seen right? So I guess the issue is you know, when we hear from beyond me, they say a big part of their customer base is people that are, in fact meat eaters. They just want some Diversification, if you will, is that similar to what KFC thinks might happen with the chicken market. Yeah, I think that's right. So, so thinking about it, you know, it's the people who are eating plant based Are people who are also eating meat. It's not necessarily a vegan or vegetarian. So with somebody who wants to do like a meatless Monday or something like that, so there could be some overlap there, but again at the same time. I think it remains to be seen. How much How much this stuff. Can really make up in sales, you know, is it? Is it going to be 2% of sales for KFC? Is there going to be 10%? I don't know. And I think they don't really know either right now. Lizzie. Thanks so much for joining us. Leslie Patent there who wrote the story on KFC betting Americans want fried chicken based on well, It's not chicken. It's uh, I guess a fried chicken shaped thing based on plants have you seen by the way there's a 1992? Non narrative documentary film, meaning it's kind of an art film. They just have shots of. I'm going to say no. Before you tell me this title, but it's called Baraka B A R A K A. Barack Ah. It's an amazing movie, and it was like the kind of thing that we would all you know, I guess late night parties, we would put it on in high school and college. And, but it's got segments about crowded cities and segments about a cigarette factory. Remember segments about A chicken plant where they just had these hundreds of thousands of chickens on a conveyor belt, you know, like getting their beak spurned off and separated into different piles and You know, I can safely say I haven't seen that. It made me not want to eat fried chicken anymore, But I recommend watching the film. I bet you Nathan Hager has seen it. Let's get over to him right now. In Washington, D C with your world National News, Nathan suddenly lunches sounding a lot less appealing, and we're only about an hour away. Thanks, Matt. Every minute of every day of every week of every month of this time has been in charge of america's infectious diseases operation. What did they do to confront this address. This just tell people to wear masks. Is that why we have this. Massive bureaucracy. You seeing the difference between donald trump presidency and a joe biden president. There's not enough ventilators. Governors are saying. There's absolutely no therapeutic. Not testing the fda brought out all tests didn't work and certainly no vaccine and starting with nothing nothing whatsoever. Nothing whatsoever three or four days after the general election pfizer announces. It has a vaccine few days after that modern announces it has a vaccine several weeks later. Maybe a couple of months later. Johnson and johnson announce it has a vaccine. Joe biden becomes president on january twenty eighth at noon. And in one second foul. She's been there. He promotes voucher. She is the greatest of the greatest. I mean after biden's known for half a century they both in washington half a century they get rid of all the trump guys who made all this possible meanwhile this delta india variant virus is known. It's highly contagious. It's in india and it's spreading fast. I'll be the first to ask all right. Backbenchers get ready. I'll be the first to ask what exactly the doctor. Xiaojie dr collins. What did the the medical and science federal bureaucrats do about. What did they do in fact what are they doing. Other than telling people wear masks. I mean what is this back to square one. Where every day is halloween. Were all wearing masks now. I wear masks. i must tell you. i'm not a tough guy against a pandemic. i don't believe in that what i have. A problem with. Is the iron fist of government. Destroy businesses destroying jobs incompetent. As hell stealing people's property rights spending us into oblivion you can support being vaccinated and even wearing masks underwrite circumstances and oppose. What this government's doing because what this government's doing is unacceptable unacceptable and the more incompetent. They are the tighter their hands around the neck of this republic. That's without a doubt. But i asked a very specific question. This stella virus didn't hit three weeks ago. The world is known about it for over eight months starting in india which i might add borders china. Gee how about that. How that don't question china. Don't question the wuhan la. This was their position whether they're doing biological research no way it's the chinese government. They're so nice. Half the scientists and their institutions are all bought off and paid off or they wanna be bought off and paid off like these phony professional athletes and these phony corporatists. But i am quite serious about this. Republicans in the senate republicans in the house. Those who will run to their computers in issue. Feuer's i'm all for it. What exactly did the biden administration do for the last seven months when it came to the delta variant other than key beating up on the american people to wear masks. They didn't do a damn thing. That's effective nothing. Because you have this fraud full buffoon in the oval office whereas before we had a go getter a successful businessman a man who wouldn't take no for an answer do you think donald trump or in the oval office. Today he just be sitting back telling people to wear masks. Wear a mask where mass wore a mask and every death resulting from this variant and there aren't many by the way. Hello hello there are not many every variant from this death. The democrats were be would be saying it's on trump's hands and the fact that trump didn't have yet another vaccine to deal with the the delta variant that's trump and trump failed us again. You can hear these clowns in the media these jackasses. They dare not answer couch. It's not like they don't have access to in the mail won't come on this program anymore. They'll never ask him the question. I just asked. Never what the hell have been doing the last eight months. Vouching you the fda the cdc hhs umbrella cabinet department what have you been doing on the delta varian trump was giving capital investments as quickly as he could to the major pharmaceutical companies. His people were already developing plans to distribute them when they had them. He told the american people. These vaccines.

"One. I'm joined by the united states senator. Tom cotton from the state of arkansas. Good morning senator. How are you good morning. You're going to be on with you. I would like you to reflect a little bit on the lake. Don rumsfeld dead at the age of eighty eight yesterday you served under him. He was your secretary defense. George w bush was your president when you were in combat in iraq and afghanistan is a member of the old guard maybe secretary gates had replaced him by that point. But tell me what you thought about don. Rumsfeld don rumsfeld was a great patriot and dedicated public servant dedicated his life to america. In a straight on college she became a naval aviator and then he was elected to congress at the young age of thirty And the only person served as secretary twice. And you're right. He was my started and two thousand six I brought my training at fort men. And then for my. We're in iraq. As a secretary defense he had strengthened he had weaknesses. He was very smart. His commentary on known unknowns. I'll play it for you. So the audience can understand the last cut. Gentlemen if you'll play that for secretary reports that there is no evidence of a direct link between baghdad and some of these terrorist organizations. There are known knowns there are things we know we know we also know there are known unknowns that is to say we know there are some things we do not know that there are also unknown unknowns. The ones we don't know we don't want to ask senator cotton. That is actually very wise. What did you think of that statement. I know that the media will Likes to laugh at that statement but actually it is a deeply thoughtful way to organize knowledge. Whether you're the secretary of defense or a young troop around on the front lines or talk radio host or anyone in business and It just goes to show the kind of deep rigorous mind that don rumsfeld brought to any challenge whether he was young congressman Senior executive and in the nixon and ford whitehouse's and mastering nato secretary of defense or very accomplished business executives He was Extremely thorough methodical thinker And that's one reason why he was so successful and so so many different walks of life. I've interviewed him a number time. And i'm gonna post two of them at the interview with hugh hewitt the one i did. After his memoir came out in the one that i did. After rumsfeld's rules came out but the thing he was most critic criticized for is actually something. He had no responsibility for the disbanding of the iraq army which led do the the insurgency. I think at night follows day. I believe that was ambassador. Paul bremmer am. I right about that senator. Cotton thank you all right hugh. He also was careful to point out. He had no control over gitmo but he did have control over. Abu ghraib in the line of command have resigned after abu ghraib photo came forward. He offered to know hugh. I don't think so. I know that he did offer to and president. Bush declined it now. His successor updates wrote about this in his own books I'm not just defense. But the director and president of texas. am One measure of leadership is not knowing every single thing going on in large sprawling sushi at everything Single moment but taking responsibility for what you learn whether it's in the news as abu graves handle west for him or say to walter reed and west for bob gates or the time so young airman inadvertently flew a nuclear arm. Missile between air force bases in america. Taking this seriously. Getting to the bottom of it holding people accountable. Let let's also talk about some of the downsides of the secretary second tenure he was responsible for the littoral combat ship zumwalt destroyer the ford aircraft carrier many questionable decisions. But i think that's probably going to be the case with every secretary defense. Did he do it more than anybody else. Because this many weapons system. You're gonna call some wrong those three big strikes though. I don't think it was more than any sector against your your is that there's some distance arts these programs One thing that they did it in both of this tenders secretary of defense is they'll with military on the cusp of change. You can't and In the nineteen seventies right after vietnam when morale was fairly low and we're transitioning all volunteer force and he helped Lead that transition and then in two thousand one you know. We're a military. They're still dealing primarily towards fighting a large heavy mechanized land. War gets russia kind of similar to the war we had bought with great success in nineteen ninety one But it was becoming clearer. And i think secretary himself saw this. That's your wars going to be either gonna blow intensity style conflicts that we had fought That we would fight in iraq and afghanistan or very high end primarily air and naval battles against a country like china so guinea inherited a military. That was on because of change. No i thought a lot about secretary defenses because it's such a critical role. It's the biggest department governments. One that's required for our national defense. I think dick cheney's a very successful secretary of defense robert gates with very successful secretary events. I think donald rumsfeld was very successful in many respects though. Not as successful as those do have shorter tenures but they proceeded their time all three of them in the elected branches. Not excuse me Cheney and rumsfeld the elected branch robert gates at a different agency are those prerequisites for being able to run the department of defense prior executive administration or prior legislative ability. Or perhaps both. I think they're certainly helpful. You one thing i've seen in government Nighttime in congress. Over the last few years i is it helps to have some kind of government experience of your life draw writing. I political environment. The department of defense is the shouldn't be partisan at all and it's one of the least political Cabinet departments but it still operating in a political environment just to give you one simple example when to gresham validations or clashing over which bazars gonna close. Which is going to get A certain kind of platform assigned to it so it helps to have either that experience of chinese secretary room so had and the congress or in the executive branch or that bob gates khadr rising through the ranks and bureaucracy to leadership in the cia and also notably Several snow at the white house soon. So i think it helps to have some of that. Government says obviously it's not a recipe for or guarantee for success. We've had secretaries of the that. Were in congress or that had previous executive branch experience and that will not strong leaders But i think it really helps. What about service in the uniform secretary rumsfeld had a lot as a navy pilot. Now we have general. Austin following general mattis goater batter it depends. I think it certainly helps you to understand in particular at The ground level. What the troopers are thinking.

"All right? Back to work. We go 12 minutes before the top of their by the way. The fellow that called with the vanity my friend Marty wrote me. Little bit information on it, he says. It sounds like a mill Pride brand. Um, Main Southwest Ohio. Uh um It's probably ballpark three quarter inch sturdier than particle board. He's probably better off getting a piece of lamb in it and covering the edge Trim. I don't know when we talked about that, But anyway, if he wants a new unit, the Cabinet Department box stores have semi custom that come in stock sizes, plus or minus a few inches. And, uh, he concedes that with the +23 inch filler for the front Good idea. Just something else to go by. If you can get something underneath that, uh, 17 inch even a 15 inch in and just trim it out. You know, in in from both sides that may work well. All right, let's get back to the phones and Royce. Welcome. Well, hello and I enjoy your show. Been listening to it for years. We traveled along on Saturday morning. Distant family. And I enjoy. Well, thank you. Here's the first two years ago we had Michael Storm in north Florida where we live. We live 50 miles from the beach. By the way, if you ever on jeopardy and you have this question 50% of the people in Florida live within 50 miles of the beach. I didn't know that it is their right. It makes sense. It is very good. You never, you know, half of the people living Near the water. Anyway. Our house was destroyed by five with the storm. So it's taken us a year to build another one. And we put the Renee Rena not whatever that is thankless hot water here here outside. And they said, Well, you realize it's gonna take a while for the hot water to get to the other side of the of the house. Well, it takes a long time to get it looks like about 15 ft, but that's another story. A plumber in town. Who's a friend said We might could try a recirculating pump. Whatever that is. I'm I'm a musician, by the way, so no clue. No clue What What does that do It? Is that a possibility to make the possibility and he knew it was a tankless one correct. Yes, sir. Yes. Okay. Yes. So I'm more familiar with using recirculating pumps on, you know the regular standard water heaters with the tank. Um and I wasn't really sure you can use that on a On a tankless but what it is, is it this recirculating pump? Basically just Reese turns it on sends the water in recirculate, so it's more like water on demand. So those pumps maybe around 33 $400 a couple $100 to put him in, usually, but that would be so they exist. That's great on the price. That's great. All the private Listen, when you pay big money, we build the house, So we know the process trying here yet, he said that it might could put a timer on it when we didn't just go kick it on when we want to use it and get some recent, so I actually have one of those on my house. But I don't have a tankless. So I have a The pump. I still remember it's it's manufactured. It's a grunt throw G r u N fr. Oh, and there's a timer that basically sits by the water heater, and it starts recirculating. 6 a.m. to wade am mainly for morning showers. Don't need it any other time because that other shower wouldn't be time that way. So it just starts read recirculating and cross mixing. To get water on demand between six and eight in the morning where we were living in the part of Florida, North Florida there where we still have septic tanks and can't get it any other way from where you live. Not outside of town. But I thought that when when you're putting water into that septic tank, and it's just water waiting for it to get hot, sooner or later, you're gonna dilute. This is my music degree. Speaking for me, the water's going to loot the point where it's not gonna be real effective, and I'll have trouble on down the road. Yeah, well, this isn't going into the subject Inc This is literally recirculating and being reheated. Right? Yes. So that's all. Take him problem, right? You are so good. And your show is wonderful. I appreciate rice. Thank you much you sir. You bet you bye Bye. All right, and, Ah, David, welcome. Hello, David. I'm thinking David's not there. That's just a guess. On my part. Danny, let's get to John John. Welcome. Gary, Can you hear me? Yes, sir. Okay, I got drunk. I thought a lot of thinking about the time you came on. Just bought a huge dining room set on the legs on the table and territory. They don't have the lag bolts and screws into the woods machine bolts that Not that hold them tight, Okay? And I have trouble with nuts backing off on right after I got it home. I haven't got it set up in the house. Yes, right after I got home one the love boat, huh? Come out of the table leg and I'm wondering, Would you recommend some kind of a blue or something to put in their toe? Keep those votes in there? Well, let's zero. It depends how it Look, Let me ask you a couple questions. So the leg has like a Dow Screw is cruising the leg. And then there's a machine screw at the top, correct all the way through the leg cruise into the table or the chair frame. Right and that nut up on the frame of that table. That's what's coming off where one of the lag bolts it actually come all the way out of the table leg. Okay, Back in. I created back in my hand. I have trouble with them, but the nuts on the bottom of the legs of the table boat. Okay, pick it up. I noticed several of the nuts or lose that the machine. I said hold him on with that. I'm wondering. I'm thinking about putting some locked tighter. Something like that. Well, you know, if it is, it would table with a doll screws so I would look at doing Uh, you know, a good, you know, lock. Not usually, Orlock tide is usually metal. The metal, um you could put in like a little. The gorilla glue in there. Um, get the non urethane s. Oh, it's the clear and it doesn't expand, like the urethane put a couple drops in their torque that down. And then it the top. Um I don't know if it's like a peanut where it's got a housing for that nut, and it's it. The top of Ah Ah ah would brace and the threat of part thing goes through the other brace and you can screw it right in. But not since about machine like this, uh, screwed down against a couple of plant washer than a lock washers. In The Thick
Unthinkable Trauma
"Hey welcome to in the thickness is a podcast politics race and culture from a POC. Perspective. HORSA and I'm Jerry Galloway. Rela. We have a very special guest joining us from Southern California Jacob Sobre. He's award winning journalist correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC and Hey a best selling author. Now, what's up Jacob? So good to be with you guys you know have wanted to do this for so long with you and I'm I'm just grateful to be here with you together I know he's a fan. He's a fan of in the thick fan. Yes. We love that we love fans of the pod so. We're going to be talking about an issue that you have called an American tragedy and this is the issue and the history of family. I don't even like that term because it's really families being ripped apart torn apart. In your new book separated inside an American tragedy you readers through a very intimate look into the policy into the families that have been torn apart and traumatized. You also talk to policymakers and government officials who ultimately were responsible for creating and really promoting this is stemmed separation of an estimated five, thousand, four hundred children from their parents at the hands of the government and I. Say. And still counting. Yeah and despite the fact that president trump signed an executive orders supposedly ending the policy of Charles Separations in two thousand eighteen, the ACLU alleges that there have been more than one thousand family separation since that executive order and more recently propublica reported on how the trump administration has used the corona virus as a pretext to circumvent the normal legal protections allowed to migrant children. So since March ice has circulated thousands of migrant children through hotel black sites making it virtually impossible for lawyers, family members and advocates to locate them and deported them in order to quote prevent the introduction of Covid nineteen into the US. Even though many of the deported children have tested negative for the virus. So Jacob here have reported on these issues for many many years. These policies you know predate trump. So before we get into the current iteration of this shit show, I wanNA talk about looking back into that history and actually. You great job of setting it and in a moment we'll talk about how it's touched of us. Really personally. But Jacob. From your perspective, talk to us about the origins of family separation and how the stage was being set for these policies way before trump entered the white. House. So yeah, you gotTa tell us how did we get here? Yeah. I think Maria. That what the trump administration did and we talked about ripping families apart family separation what to call this really what it was in the words of Physicians for human, rights and Nobel Peace Prize winning organization was torture at met the. Definition of torture according to the United. Nations it was government sanctioned child abuse according to the American Academy of Pediatrics and you know make no mistake. This is on the trump administration's hands. No administration in the history of the United States of America had ever attempted or done anything like this in a systematic way. But the fact that the trump administration was able to execute this policy was only possible because of decades of failed deterrent based immigration border policy by Democratic and Republican administrations. This will come as no news to you. But for people who don't know in one, thousand, nine, hundred, four, the Clinton administration put into place their border patrol a policy called prevention through deterrence. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring record number of new border guards by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before by cracking down on illegal hiring, which was designed went along with the first wave of border infrastructure walls. Fences what have you and the idea was that by doing that people who are migrating to this country quote unquote illegally would have to go on more dangerous or deadly journeys to get here and sure enough you know many people have died trying I e let them die trying. Let them die trying. That's exactly right. After the Clinton administration. We had the Bush administration which obviously created H S and expanded the border patrol exponentially dozens of agencies charged with Homeland Security. Will now be located within one cabinet department. With the mandate and legal authority. To protect our people, the Obama Administration obviously deported more people than any other president ever no matter how they are. No matter their reasons. The eleven million who broke these laws should be held accountable and we got to this place where we had donald trump is president saying when Mexico census people, they're not sending their best they bringing drugs. Crime, their rapists, often not the pictures of Jay Johnson walk through the same facilities that I saw separated kids in and look yes. The Obama Administration Limited circumstances did separate parents and children from each other and the reason that they did it was circumstances where you had parents who were perhaps violent criminals or dealing a narcotrafficking but they never did on a systematic basis Jay Johnson? The Homeland Security Secretary, or Cecilia Munoz from the Domestic Policy Council. Bowl said to me on the record in my book we could never do. What the trump administration did it doesn't mean the idea wasn't proposed. It came up, it came up in the situation of the White House but they never did it and the minute Donald Trump became president. This idea was on the table right about a Valentine's Day meeting and twenty seventeen and the officer Kevin McLean then the acting commissioner of Customs and border. Protection they wanted to do this from the get-go and now the results of of this policy are very familiar to all of
