Larson dominates for third NASCAR All-Star race win, takes home $1 million
"Kyle Larson took the NASCAR Cup Series all star drivers to the proverbial woodshed at the historic North Wilkesboro speedway and handed out a meeting. Maradona's medical team on trial in former great's death
"Argentine court says 8 healthcare professionals will stand trial in the death of soccer great Diego Maradona, three judges of an appeals court confirmed the charges of homicide by negligence brought by prosecutors against members of Maradona's medical team. A medical board's report previously given to prosecutors claims Maradona was in agony for more than 12 hours, did not receive adequate treatment and could still be alive if he had been properly hospitalized. The date of the trial hasn't been set, but it's unlikely to begin before next year. Maradona, who famously won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986, died of a heart attack aged 60 in late 2020, following brain surgery two weeks earlier.

That gap is well and you know bring some some some more creativity into the urban planning in soccer and have it all flowing so Like i at my dad's a general contractors. I have background in. Like the the also the creativity slows from its virtuous sacher cycle At the at the heart of it is soccer though right because like even the art urban planning you wanna bring that sort of creativity. That's at the heart of soccer towards sort of you know why i think soccer is like a like a form of art in a way as well you know there was a lot of creativity in it And you can have a style that is unique to you. That's why you do remember certain players because of like other played in had that style and they were like style like someone that was like breaking up plays and getting dirtier as i could tombstone type of guy that when she was like smashing crunching tackles being that guy you needed then you have you know appear oser neo pillow or messy like poetry in motion. Yeah you know rinaldo like that guy style and now and now it's cool is like you see those guys like reinventing themselves to within nets that ronaldo used to be or not that. He isn't still in nasty player but he used to be like this. It was younger. He was more like you know it was doing these kind of flashing things on the side. Ticking guys on any store does some of that but now he's more like this kind of like machine that's like upfront. And he's like finding the net in in doing last but being more efficient kind of so it's cool to see that in like the growth in in evolution of like players in hana so Yeah i mean. I just kind of like being involved with Earlier like i'm a proponent of cross training but i also think like That doesn't just like physical side. There's a lot that goes into playing soccer clinched or at any level I think you've got to the things that are feeding that that help you do that better. So that's kind of where i'm not with others and now so now like take take a hard left turn here and completely blow people's minds so you how's it feel to be like a child actor like a challenge so let people this give me give people just a sense of what i'm talking about. So you were an actor as a kid. You acted in like tv commercials for oreos for kentucky fried chicken and dr pepper and you're in an episode of malcolm in the middle. So what what. How did this come about. i mean i would have to give all thanks to my sweet mom for kind of getting into the acting thing. I mean we rally thing by the way like like girl who is got that was never like to give you a new like you know curricula act that was never on my radar. Would just hey. Let's just go go this photo. She real quick. Will you know what happened was i remember correctly. I don't know who it was but my my brother ended up Being involved in. I believe it was a chuck norris movie back. They needed like either like a baby. Like save was like some I have to now have girls that go back access to back to you but i believe it was like like a chuck national that he was in like briefly and that kind of kicked off like being involved in that and obviously Eight my brother's older so he started kinda getting involved with that and then it was just like you know organically that i only organically. Nothing's organic about the business. But you resist like one of those things like moore brothers was doing it so then i kinda got into it and then yeah we actually did like one to get an oreo commercial together Which was pretty And then my dad's also in the business so and he's actually Doing like currently doing pretty well within. And you just Shot a few commercials recently. Like last two months so yeah we did one years ago alternativas together which was cool and yeah it was one of those things that you know was after school was like go to practice and then maybe try to catch this edition. That was like running a little late or miss miss. Maybe a a soccer practice. Because i was in the in hollywood valley like running around to a couple of dishes. I mean my mom really was like. I don't know how she did it but you know she driving us to always additions like you're on the other side of town trying to us practice. My brother was here. I was here in the united. My dad's as well so man. It was crazy but you know they made it work and it was like super cool. I have fond memories of that time. You know driving to that side of town you know going in and auditioning for some of these roles in.

I mean just. There's no reason to be indoors. Beach soccer makes a lot more sense of anything else. Does over your neck of the woods especially Go back to beat soccer. Twenty twenty one world cup coming up this month Just in when people this a few days from now so let's start with. Qualifying wasn't a breeze. How'd that go now. Agrees qualify always attesting that. I i feel like qualifying is almost meaning. Obviously you're bringing in big teams for the world cup. Qualifying is difficult in the sense. That like every every team wants to be in that world cup. So there's like because once you make it to workup it. It's not like you made it but you did accomplish you like you made it there. So he's kind kinda cool but to not make it is like feels tear. It urge you really like so For qualifying that everyone's like going crazy going hard trying to win and we have some good teams in cock calf and El salvador who actually ended up We ended up playing the final. Who who won the game. They're always they've always been like for as long as i've been on the team. They've always like a competitor for us and the nexico obviously is always a big clash And this year we were able to knock him out. In the semis. Which was like an amazing yeah. It was off year for mexico all around. She felt good to get that win. is history with mexico. And kinda missing out on on a world cup and stuff like that so Yeah i mean it was. It's it's a tough this this qualifier. We have some newer faces. Some guys are making debuts stuff so it was it was cool it was like a little bit of a challenge getting making sure that we kinda like it will come together and everyone was like You know doing their thing But in the end. I think that's like what we have. Is that like we. We come together reunited in kind of play hard for each other. And then we have like a a roster of like some veteran guys in a lot of skilled guys. So yeah i mean there's some there's some some games that aren't as demanding. I would say as as you get later in the in the into the termine but yeah the last. You know panama's a team that we have troubling before the tournament so we beat them was good game for us. And then you don't mexico's one in mexico is the big one right. That was the one athlete is gonna go. What are you guys going home right right. Rosa a that was like you and you qualify so so that yeah that was huge and and if you have that that one play them. I mean last the previous world cup qualifying. It was like the reverse where we played el salvador in the summer is and we beat them in in. Pk's in at mexico in the final So this time was like pretty funny. I kinda swamped it. it But the result was similar in that we were able to qualify so really stoked on that pompton excited tournament in so it gets started. What are the dates. He had three games to to make it onto the next round. And the all as says the next one's not so. I mean i assume you're an athlete. So you're going into your competitive so you go into the second like we wanna win right. We wanna win the world cup. But what would you consider to be like a failure. If you've made it out of the group would you then be like well. At least this has been a success based on two thirteen to two thousand nineteen or is there something more you want more than that. I mean for sure. I think it's one of those things. Where like you mean we want. I mean there's no point in competing if you don't want to if you don't wanna take it all like why why are you doing it Obviously the are.

I went to el salvador. we did like I didn't know at the time but it was like it was like a some sparring games basically with el salvador to get right or the world cup so We went there. Played a few games and then at the end of that trip. You kind of had the same conversation he was like. We're going to woke up. I want you to come and so yeah go somewhere around like a month later. I was on the plane with the team. Had into the hiti for be charles woke up first official like official official tournaments It was pretty crazy like hat. Images happened so quickly that it was like kind of a surreal. Surreal thing in the admits. It's wild out. I think about it because feels like a lifetime ago but at the same time it also feels like it was yesterday so with the how the how the two thousand thirteen beach world world cuppa go. So we had spain tahiti who was hosting and then Uae and prior to that world cup to he had been training pretty regarding for it amount of months leading into it because they were hosting. They wanted to you know. Have a good showing and then. Spain has always been a strong team in beach so that first game against spain we ended up losing five four. I think like at the at the end of last minute of the game. Something like towards the end. It was a close game. That than the tahiti game we actually went into overtime and ended up losing in overtime Which was kind of a heartbreaker and then The uae game. We won in that game. I played the most in. And i ended up scoring my first my first and second goal in that game and in system game so it was like a pretty cool pretty special game for me. Even though considered we didn't move on past the group stage was it was pretty special to be able to get a goal in that tournament Nba involved in it to that extent. So so yeah we. Unfortunately the last two times we've gone we haven't gotten out of the group setting because i mean man is the world cups like not no joke. You got a lot of good teams in there that their training and playing lot. You're out so it's tough to compete with some of those is But i think this year you know this next month this month becoming. I think i would give feeling we. We've got a good team guys from the that i go around still in the mix and then we have some senior guys. Nick mixed. it'll be a. It'll be cool. Cool thing to see like how we're able to to perform come together and put online nice to support your point. I know that in two thousand thirteen. That play down there. I played one time And my experience involved. The keeper on our team getting his Not as femur but whatever the shinbone. His bone snapped in half. I assume moves a just a free play That he had went in on a on a sort of a challenge with guy in his shinbone snapped. And it made a sound that i will never forget. It was so loud. And i don't think that like scared me away from beach soccer at all because like. I think that things can happen anywhere if you're playing sports and especially soccer. But it was the greatest. It wasn't a grace off by two things. Were this guy's shinbone snapping and making a sound that was just still chills. My my blood number two holy shit. That was hard insane and all heads the house. I okay yeah. You know what i'm going back to the grass. I'm getting back his regular soccer for somebody who's played a lot of heat soccer and knows the game inside out what are sort of the big differences between b. soccer and normally soccer. Yeah I mean it like you said it's it's almost different like completely different sport in a way at the same time. "Recovery process. The only thing you wanna do when you get back is play and just and just feel it again. You know feel feel the energy and feel the excitement and feel that the desire and the dedication sacrifice to win And obviously when when i ended up playing in the last game of the season You know even before. I played them the game. I knew i wanted to go somewhere I think i think there was this big question internally amongst league you know win. The season was actually going to start again in twenty twenty one Trying to figure out obviously the the pandemic and and how the season would work in you know it. Was everything going to get better. So the big question. Was you know if if the season didn't start and i was and i stayed in mls And i didn't go anywhere i would. I would potentially be off november december january february. I mean we're going into maybe five six months of not playing after. I just came back from a nine month. Rehab of e surgery so for me you know that that essentially would push me back an extra five six months of getting into finding the best form That that i was at which is kind of the science behind it I think they said it takes about sixteen months From from your surgery To kind of could kind of find form. And i see i could be missing a little bit there but something that you could be to some extent. That's right so yeah. I think ultimately might decision was i wanted to go somewhere and then it was just it was just about working with the league Sorry working with my team. These united To try and figure out. Okay where can i go. Where is it you know. Where can where i potentially still be protected. Where could the team potentially look out for me because you don. I'm still a mexican citizen so for me to play in mexico. I don't count as a foreigner You know which is a huge benefit for for some of the mexican clubs so Could i go down there. But then the question became you know what if what if i was overused You know what if i was heard. What if something happened And obviously still technically trying to maintain my knee and still go through this recovery process so there was a lot of different things that went into went into it and to me end up me ended up being swazi The dc united owner. Jason levian is also part owner of swansea And i think for me when he when he kind of presented that opportunity to me talked about. If i was interested in going. I said absolutely i would love to go You know there wasn't ever a doubt in my mind thinking. Okay you know i. I don't think there's any player that that comes back from an acl injury and you know his fourth game back. He is in the is against manchester city. United mean Ahead of me. I'll just ask you. I mean it's it's tough man. It's tough so obviously i was extremely. I was extremely excited to to go over there and it was just. It was a tough transition To be honest with you You know. I definitely can say you know wi with a lot of confidence that i kind of went over there as a Reinforcement of positions. Which kind of made it tough for me because again. I'm coming back from acl injury. And all i wanna do is play. I want to be in a position where i can constantly get games where i can find good form where i can continue to show myself in gain the confidence back And unfortunately i just didn't really get the chance to do that. And and you know never really found myself On the field. And when i did it was it was in. You know tough tough situations And yeah that's you know that's kind of how how it went. And obviously i ended up getting injured. a couple times over there Which kind of. Just push back my my. You know my rehab and and my recovery time at at the end of the at the end of the day that it makes sense for me to continue to stay over there until the end of the season You know when when i was probably going to be out for you know an extra month and a half or so so that was kind of bad decision to come back early to at the c. To to get guys who have worked with me before who know my body You know to kind of help me recover and obviously they did and and you know my quads been fine sense but Yeah it was definitely. It was definitely an experience. I'll tell you that It was it was it was something different And you know. Obviously i'm extremely eager to prove myself and you know there's another opportunity to go to go abroad and and you know it's a play in europe. I i definitely will take it but obviously has to be. The right situation has to be the right environment for me You know because at the end of the day you know. I want to succeed. I want to be successful And sometimes you can help yourself by You know knowing where the right spot is and and you know it might be a little more difficult so so. You're a as you said you didn't quite get as much you weren't over there as long as you would've liked asli given the injuries but your debut was against manchester city in the fifth round of the fa cup. I mean what was that like.

"Doing and specifically how your your hamstring doing. yeah physically. Obviously it was tough You know to have to go out of the first game With a hamstring injury. I think you know looking back on and what kind of everyone's told me. It was a very smart decision to kind of go myself out. I kind of felt it start to a little bit. Tighter and tighter Just in the beginning of the game To to the point where. I thought you know if i really keep going. I think you know i really hurt myself And luckily with with my experience and and you know. I think being a part of the gold cup and just kind of Kind of kind of feeling like veteran in kind of understanding the situation. I i kind of made the choice. Hey i think now is the right time before you know. I push myself to so the time the you know. There's no turning back so luckily You know it's nothing too serious. Obviously you know something that that. I've continuously worked on You know for little over a week now and you know every day making progress so The hopes is obviously to be on the field as soon as possible And you know whether that comes in. The quarterfinals are not You know to be to be determined but You know feeling good at the moment. Feeling making a lot of progress like i said And really just excited to contribute. Okay do you think you think if this was your first rodeo. You've been around a little bit at this point. You've been around the us men's national team. He played overseas. You've actually don't allow mls If this was like your first game on the us men's national team in your life felt that twins do you think you would have played through it and the apps yourself up. I think so. I think for sure That's kind of like you know what what i was hinting at. When i when i said like i had the understanding that. Hey it's a long. It's a long tournament. Why why risk your your body and especially me obviously coming back from an acl injury you know what people sometimes don't understand is that your body is completely different. You know when when you have to go and you have to put you have to make a a graph out of you know a different ligament attendant or whatever it is and re put it somewhere else like you're teaching your body you know it's just never your body's never the same after surgery In you know. That's something that i all by also had to learn. It's a difficult thing. And that's why there's a lot of ups and downs post post the acl knee surgeries. Is that your body's continually trying to to adapt and learn that you know it is the way it is now and you know you're going to have to figure out the best way to to stay healthy so obviously this is kind of another obviously a small obstacle but You know have my acl. I went through a couple of quad quad quad injuries. I've dealt with a little bit of tendonitis in my left hamstring. Over the past. Couple of months. So it's just kind of adaptation trying to trying to get better Which can be obviously super frustrating as a player Especially when you know. I i feel like a explosive type player where i rely a lot of my energy. A lot of running and getting in behind and distance covered different. Things like that And so sometimes when when you know your body lets you down You know it's extremely frustrating. But at the same time my body. I gave me a sign a warning sign to let me know. Hey you know you might need a. You might relax a little for now so You know that's kind of those kind of the way i took it but Like i said. I'm definitely i'm definitely grateful to to not have a habit significant injury in you know. Be ready to contribute. As soon as i cam. Hopefully you'll be back in there soon. If not the quarter-finals the semi or the final movie. max Okay perfect now. Before we get to d c united and Questions on your adventure in wales Let's let's stick with the national team for a little bit so you just beat canada one zero. I should say we can't because the united states. I've even be canada one zero and one the group so You know three wins out of three. What was the mood. Like in the locker room after the game against canada was it more. Was it excitement where people guys happy to run the group and looking forward to the knockouts or was there. You know some frustration that perhaps the performance and especially maybe. The scoreline wasn't as impressive as perhaps people were expecting coming in. Yeah i'll tell you one hundred percent The attitude was was excitement. knowing that we didn't play necessarily the way that we wanted to play. And maybe not not the way the fans want you to play But i'll tell you. What i you know i i think we all understand it here and even the younger guys at this is their first. This is their first time at the international level is the first time at a at an international tournament. You'll take you'll take the winds as they come in. Our first objective was to win the group that was number one when we when we came in and we sat down and we talked about okay. What's important for for this team to be successful. Number one thing was when the group And the bottom line is it doesn't matter how you do it. It's that you do you know so. Yeah i think could we have made it a little bit easier You know winning the group if we would've had an extra goal against Martinique or maybe not concede a penalty absolutely But those are kind of things that we grow as a group you know. I think a lot of us understand is very young group It's a group with not too much experience. I think it's pretty well-balanced group And yet i think we all know we didn't play you know how we wanted to But at the end of the day it's against a team that that is you know rising up and and you know. Obviously canada thinks that they are Similar to us. There's this growing rivalry that we've that that we've built over over the past couple of years so for us at the end of the day. It's it's one of your rivals. It was a huge game is a real test for us And also like i said when the group three different formations. Three different games It two shutout shouts and you know given up. One penalty kicks so You know the goal is obviously continue to get stronger and and work towards work towards the finals. Which is now. This is the fun part of of the tournament. It's the knockout stage where you know every single every single play matters. And that's where you wanna be if you're if you're a professional athlete would berhalter His post-game speech What did he say he said. Obviously you know number one is that you know we had to win the group Into when you talk about being Relentless that's one of our. That's one of our big word words that we use to describe ourselves and and when we think about how can team be successful. One of the one of the main words is being relentless and being relentless for us i thought. That's that's what we did You know when our back is up against the wall when you're protecting the lead You know when you're defending with everything in the and in canada throwing everything forward You gotta be relentless. You've got to be well. You've got to be willing to do anything it takes to to keep the clean sheet and win the game And so you know he was. He was happy with that. We're we're super super excited about that and obviously Like i said again you know our main our first objective which was winning the group was was done and now we can move forward We have a week week to kind of prepare for for whoever's are So at training or not necessarily just at training but at training and in the games I've been there for both Unlike a lot of people like me keyboard warriors who just gets the you know the game kiva. "I don't know where that came from. A tabby you actually know the coach though right. Yeah he played with josh peres. Is while growing up then. Is that his never nephew. Forget if you google pres- was kind of the the youth national team coach you fourteens and was involved in. Us soccer on the youth level and and everyone loved him. And i think like you talked to a lot of guys that are playing professionally than have had him as a youth coach. Speak really highly of him and just the way he wants to play attacking soccer and be kind of raven courageous for for young players to hear that the the national team level. I think it did a lot for a lot of guys confidence. And i think he is one of many reasons why you've seen a lot of youth national team players come through and and been successful at the first level and. I think you could argue that. He probably doesn't get enough for that as well. You can see in the way. They played that they were not out there to try. And lose or gopher zero zero draw or win one zero like they were going for like flowing forward and there was a play. I don't know who it was but it was there six caught like he was passed. I mean like darrell decay. Just absolutely manam little boys they in that game anything else. Stand out from that. Game quickly. shouldn't concede the goal to martinique. But that that's a good point. Kellen emmy first of all that. That penalty was so weak. But at the same time kellyn kosta has to be smarter became. Put your hands anywhere near a guy in the box like that and he just absolutely fell over else but mean as somebody who had The over three and a half in. Us to i think two and a half I was a little nervous when he gave away the penalty. But no problem seven five one at that point right was it. But when i saw the euro's and i'm like man. This feels like a world cup. This is getting bigger and bigger. Have like ten or eleven teams. That are credible portugal. Germany didn't make forensic make the quarterfinals. And you still had a functioning tournament with everybody knew everybody so that the european growth is so massive than not to mention the last world cup. And i think non-european teams will do well and cutter but when it was in russia was like six of the four semifinalists from europe. So when i saw that and obviously he was building up. And then i see the the real tough situation in south america and they can't even hold a tournament. Komo vote is out of control. It's not going to just flick a switch. They kinda need infrastructure. They need money they need. They need help in a lot of ways. The gold cups going to be great but they need personalities they need teams more than ever as well if they want to keep up with the european. So i think it's never been a better time where they go look. We can actually do something great here. If we combine forces bite the bullet we come off possibly make more money on the other end and then the gold cup. Whatever you call it gets brazil argentina columbia which is the big ones then uruguay chile etc. And then the the south americans get the the us infrastructure they play it there where it's easily manageable and the stadiums and the money the tv money which also includes mexico. Which is the biggest dog in north american. The second biggest dog in the americans. I think it's brazil then mexico and in the rest fall in line. But it's if. I think they have to start to look at it because they're gonna lose a lot of ground now because he's euros are just going to get bigger and we're gonna kinda get the scraps from the rest. "So i could see that being the same way that they that they win doing it which is gonna say the key for soccer neutral states. It does okay. So that leads into the italy. England game is this game gonna suck start with you. Max and i'll preface it by following up. What a tommy was saying. And i thought england left a lot more but they wore out the danes but they did the littlest amount of possible to win it. And you expected more. I mean when i saw delaney come off and he looked so exhausted i mean they were just worn out so that's england or deeper and and denmark was just reacting the whole time. I don't think italy's going to do that. So i thought a bail jumped right to but from the quarterfinals on i thought england was going to win it for a lot of reasons. I thought deeper. They've they're good defensive record and playing at home but you know maybe playing it homes going to not be as strong of a an advantage. This time around and italy is kind of putting them in a position where they came off the semifinal where they exerted so much not to say that the italians didn't they certainly did but whether they exerted so much and it felt like they want it because it's Italy even these guys have been through it. They just feel like they have. You know there's a spirit and they've they've used so many guys and i think it's going to be it's going to be a great file regardless because you have italy england as you said you know why fox's doing backflips for brazil argentina. Okay let's go do this. And they look good into the lakers on right if you can respond within ten minutes of denmark scoring what's stopping you from going you know attacking again. There were very few players that i felt actually took on. Defenders took chances took shots like hurricane. From spain italy game it was a i thought the spanish had this game in for the first time you saw the italians really uncomfortable in a lot of ways and i think that's a testament to a spanish. We didn't really expect much from so that was a that was a pleasant surprise for me. I always argue with folks and be an older guy myself. It's a young man's game. You get the kids in there earlier and it pays off nine out of ten times not all the time but in the spanish situation it did with you. Guys i almo. They took a bit of a risk on and he was great. I mean he was running rampant in that game and then obviously Pay the roy. Saw some stat completed all hundred percent of his passes and he passes up the lot. It was very cool to see. Just the the striker situation in italy plays it right. Italy's played everything right in this tournament. It's it's pretty remarkable. How good they are. And i've gotten this one. They're gonna lose. So i kind of tweeted the same thing. And i've nailed it twice because the swiss lost an spain lost so i i give credit to italy forgetting to penalties and winning it and then play that game with Kill leany which was there is no. There is no pleasantries in that. That was all stage to help win the penalty out to be all nice to kill them with kindness. And then wack killing me in the house going to say if there was one i was. I i had money on. Spain's was completely unbiased in this situation. One your money. I felt that was one of those games where i felt like it hurts the most because spain or the underdog coming in.
