We're making sure we're not walking through any aerosol emissions from the instruments. Things like that. The band is helping the school with a study on covert transmissions through instruments. You know, hold us liable, but also you're going You're pledging to do what you can To stay safe. And you're going to socially distance that you gonna wear a mask and all that all that kind of stuff. "I was in an online courses as well so it was easier on the teachers. You know and it it takes a little bit of a of an adjustment but I think it's going well you know just trying to say. Popovich didn't do as well as I can. Do you have any personal goals when it comes to your success as a quarterback for this team? Do you have those goals in front of you? That you that you that you're comfortable talking about now for next season or is it. Just you know what you want to go out and give it your best I WANNA WIN Games. You know I think this team. That's coming back. We got really special group and I think we can win a lot of games. You know. A lot of people aren't protecting the win six. I've been I honestly believe wholeheartedly that we can win more than that and I mean. That's the ultimate goal honestly to bring him out unless championship and play in a big bowl game. So that's the main goal at the moment. I'm a friend. I know rams fans will be excited to hear that and I'm looking forward to seeing you again get out of practice and and talk to you soon and in love to get you back on this program appreciate it. Thank you Tom and stay safe. That's Colorado State Rams quarterback Patrick. O'brien what a great Dune what I just said the dude thing right. Yeah good guy no doubt he he said Hey. I want to win games. You know I just want to go out there and we gave you and you gotta you gotTa think when you look at guys like Jordan love that Jordan love is sensational quarterback Green Bay. The Green Bay packers move up to get him controversy city. Now Colefax. What's that mean for? Aaron Rodgers Aaron Rodgers a few hours before the draft said he loved. The packers never really takes skill guys in the first round. So hopefully. And what do they do? They take his replacement. That's that'd be a tough one. But Patrick O'Brien a sensational guy You know he had listened this team. Last year. They had their ups and downs. But you know. He's a solid quarterback and I'm excited to see what now we say a full year under your belt playing and everything but now you know he's got to readjust everything not just the current situation going on with a covert nineteen and all that but I also a new head coaching staff. And all that so it it it's a different different Different time for sure but Certainly going to present some new challenges but you heard him there. He's he's a great kid. He's got an excellent head on his shoulder. So I'm excited man. He does have those weapons you know you look at all these guys and Trae mcbrayer. Kelly told us yesterday. Warren Jackson Train McBride potential. They have potential to be first rounders. And that's going to depend a lot on what happens next season. But then you look at Dante right. Another great great ride receiver very young too. So the weapons are there and you know. I think this team with Stephen Dot. Co could be. It's certainly going to be a gritty football team. I know when we had Dot Co on last time Colfax now just like pumped up man. We were doing push ups during breaks. We'd headbands we were airbox sat. Oh boxing it was. It was fantastic. So if he can motivate Colfax than I who I think. The idea of a six mile jog terrifying. I don't like that but I mean he's he's motivating us if you so imagine what he can do with a six five two hundred and forty pound quarterback you know. I'm I imagine he's going to get these pumped up and play some football so I'm excited man We'll we'll see what that looks like Kelly. Lyle told us of the Colorado these optimistic that we have you know next season goes off in a somewhat normal way. We're hearing from several college athletic directors that next season will go off in a somewhat normal way so until I hear otherwise. I'm going to be doing this program as if we're going to have football in the fall. Thirty four minutes after the Hour. Take a quick break. Let's get the latest on the local sports flash..

California, Measles And April Dembosky discussed on All Things Considered

"There are thirty eight confirmed cases of measles in California. So far this year, including ten here in the bay area. That's according to state public health officials today provided the latest update on a disease that is seeing a resurgence across the state and the country. These California numbers could change after a quarantine order was issued today for hundreds of students and staff at UCLA and CSU Los Angeles who may have been exposed to measles, and either have not been vaccinated or can't verify they have immunity K Cutie health correspondent, April Dembosky joins us from Sacramento and April who is most affected here, the vast majority. Seventy four percent of people who got sick were adults. And most of them were adults who had traveled abroad recently to other countries that are having more. Wha. Had spread out. So the Philippines, India Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia and most of those people were either under vaccinated, meaning they had only had one of two shots for the vaccine or they weren't vaccinated at all. So usually when we think about vaccinations, we think mainly children, but these were adults why weren't they've accented native. What's up? So several of the people who had traveled who are living in California. Now were originally from other countries other countries that where the measles vaccine wasn't available when they were kids. And so they just never got vaccinated. And also some of the people who are being affected right now are college age students who grew up at a time when vaccination wasn't mandatory yet. And so the the recent laws that we have here in California that are more strict target children and tring kindergarten or seventh. Grade officials are saying they don't consider this statewide outbreak. Why is that? So for something to be considered an outbreak. You. You have to have three or more cases that are all connected to each other. And what's unique about what's happening in California? Now is that most of the cases are is located so fourteen of the thirty eight cases where people who traveled abroad and brought measles back all independently of each other. So only four of those people actually spread the disease to other people when they got back so measles. Our now president in twenty two states across the country. But here in California, it's not nearly as bad as other states did public health officials. Explain why that is this that overall vaccination rates in California are quite good. They're just up around ninety five percent, which is what's needed to create hurt immunity. So that people who can't get vaccinated because they're too young or because their immune systems are compromised when you have that many other people who are vaccinated it can protect everybody. And so the disease won't spread as quickly in unvaccinated populations in California does have pockets where vaccination rates are low. There are some schools where vaccination rates are below fifty percent in those communities one infected person could get ten other people sick. And once that happens, it becomes very difficult to contain because is so highly contagious, and so what should people do is their knees suggestions or recommendations from public health officials what they're really doing is urging adults to make sure they're vaccinated and to check their status, and if they can't find their records, and they're not sure there's a blood test that will check your level of immunity, the measles vaccine is ninety seven percent affective when you have those two doses. And so that makes people quite safe if they're gonna go

"The yen one ten point four six and out ceo rupert stadler under arrest in munich in connection with the diesel cheating scandal making him the highest profile target in the probe that's engulfed the carmaker in parent volkswagen for almost three years and that's a bloomberg business flash john karen thank you very much just want to get some breaking news out of germany's chancellor merkel comes under increasing pressure you'll recall that there are three parties making up a coalition in germany grand coalition merckel cd you these sister party in bavaria the csu you and the social democrats as well the sp what's important here is that there is a significant amount of tension at the moment between the cd you and the cs you so markle's party and the party and the interior minister in germany right now halsey hoffa who leads that bavarian sister party wants a stricter policy at the border to turn away migrants chancellor merkel does not want that halsey hoffer is basically saying we want this done in the next two weeks we want an agreement between these two parties within the next two weeks and chancellor merkel has now accepted seahawks two week deadline on my gratien that is a report according to my sources merkley such with accepted see hoffa's two week deadline on migration and tom if this doesn't get sorted out it's a real threat to merkel's leadership in the country but the the risk the coalition that was so hard to pull together exactly just come car very good four months ago there was a modest press release out of think tank america's the peterson institute brand it was a wonderful press release douglas irwin in mary lovely join peterson institute for international economics many of you will know professor irwin of dartmouth perhaps fewer mary lovely of syracuse university who is absolutely definitive on intellectual transfer across nations and she joins us this morning with the peterson institute on tariffs in such murray what's the number one thing we get wrong in our tariff analysis or discussion two thousand eighteen vintage i think the biggest misconception is the extent to which the trade between the united states and china happens via multinationals by foreign firms operating in china to a large extent it is supply chain trade what does that mean is that just more amorphous or harder to get our hands on that it's within the menu factor of products.

"He was injured in a car crash on thursday morning to that have an impact on the negotiations while i don't think so that this was happening would have an impact but the truth is it's a very very difficult situation because you have actually three partners that you do have a obviously the cdu markets christian democrats on the one side and you have their social democrats on the other side but it's far more complicated because in a cdu has so as you could say a bavarian branch which is the csu and they are far more conservative and they actually have completely contradictory views and positions to the spd in many things especially in migration politics yes of course immigration is one of the major obstacles even within the cds you say he blamed their election losses on a medical two thousand and fifteen decision to to let in as many as a million refugees that's proving a big stumbling block hasn't it yes of course it is m it was a big stumbling block to start with within actually the cdu and csu there were a lot of negotiations also through the night between annan amac lentoor seehofer who is the head of the csu and i finally found compromises on on migration but now they are sitting down with the spd and other are very very a tough talks about it for example um the the spd doesn't want to allow a limit a cap on how many refugees could come into into germany why the sees you ins insists on that another point they are fighting about is a family reunification family reunification until april has moratorium so there isn't any for refugees in in uh in germany but this needs to change now but they haven't found a compromise that yet but this is not the only my question is not the only issue they are fighting about a it's mainly about.

"Yes you because it is further to the right on many issues including on immigration than the cdu provide some cover against the afd as well there's a sort of i don't know if this is the right way to put it this would be the british virgin a nasty aversion slightly which allows mirko both to appeal to the centrist mike them but also there's a little bits of possible dogwhistle politics available on a lot of the fdp support is actually coming from people who might traditionally averted social democrat first of all there's a historical question what is that relationship as there is no british now aji the closest i could think of wouldbe when the tory party had a kind of northern irish wing which was not actually part of the conservative party was a separate party in nonetheless they were joined together but in in almost every respect us different is not like this what is the relationship in the csu and the cd when it is a bizarre relationship it's as you said some had become just a fixture in german politics since 1949 these twoputt he's always tom for growth estate been take for granted they have it in its informal incident they have an informal alliance by which the cdu agrees not to put forward candidates in bavaria on the csu not degrees not put forward candidates anywhere button in bavaria so they've sort of divided up the territory but it's a difficult alliance itself mean difficult and it's particularly difficult at the moment will busy csu is on questions of identity and culture to the right fought to the right of the of the cdu on on issues of social policy it's actually slightly the other way around but will we can come to that and this division over issues like immigration for example refugees the refugee crisis has widened in the last couple of years in widened perilously in two thousand fifteen when angloamerican made the famous decision to open germany's oldest two to thousands of refugees in entering eastern europe hungary in particular and she tried to do this in agreement with z hoffa the ministerpresident of bavaria she tried to contact him and get his agreement under the decision but he.
