Fresh update on "cleveland browns" discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP Show

"We've heard, you know from several people we've talked to over the weeks, Fred, that you know, people seem that are in the know seemed to think that pace is gonna be swinging for the fences. Because it's his job. So now what? What do we really have to give? How much? How much do we need to mortgage the future to get somebody off a Russell Wilson or disarm Watson? I think Watson's totally off the table. And and I don't think getting Wilson because other Would be ahead of us in that in in being able to give away some Solid assets. I'm not sure we have that much to give and how much do we want to give them a future? That's the question why the one thing they mentioned because one of the four teams mentioned was the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Raiders could make a deal and give Quarterback, the Seattle they could give car to Seattle, and this way they're exchanging quarterback. So Seattle has a quarterback that was proven that can play in the league has shown and what he did with the Raiders last year. And he could go there and maybe play and Pete Carroll system So the Bears don't have that on Dino. I don't Sylvie later in the week, so he was talking about. Listen, It doesn't have to happen this week or this year, Nick Foles come play draft somebody later on and then Make sure you have enough so you can get Russell Wilson next year. If the Russell Wilson thing doesn't happen because you know after what he says when he comes out with some people say, Well, there's no way Russki go back and play with that offensive line because basically, he has said I'm getting hit too much and not protecting me enough. I don't have enough stick skilled players. The guys around his team probably are gonna take too kindly to that. But if he does stay there, you want to have enough to get him next year. So it was the first time I'd heard Sylvie bring up the fact go with Nick Foles go with someone else. But that almost sounds like you're going into a tanking situation And I don't want to do that. I'm never a fan of taking and most teams in the NFL. Don't do that. So you have no idea what we're going to go in Which direction is gonna go? But the draft comes up in April, so they've got a month or so the figure it all out. And that's why the conversation is so hot, even though it is an ongoing conversation, and we're repeating a lot of the same things. We don't know what they're going to do. They We do know that they have to do something we're talking about the Bears. We just have no idea and we don't have any idea of what they're willing to do to get that next quarterback. I mean, dare I say a franchise quarterback? We'll be nice to have one. That's an impossible dream prepares fans. It just seems it would be nice to have a franchise quarterback. It certainly would 312312 3323776 you want to jump in on that joined us here something else I wanted to bring up. And this takes this takes in every guy that is a sports fan. And you have a relationship with a significant other. Okay? I was married for 38 years. My wife passed away a few years ago. Now I have a girlfriend and my wife could not care less about sports. You like watching the Vikings because she liked the purple uniforms. She would sit and watch, but she would always fall asleep and never really cared. My girlfriend. Okay, that concludes the true and false section of the test. Get the short answer stuff in order to have a glass of water? No, How's she doing? Well, he says about a 72 so far, but she's hitting a bad streak before the Cleveland Browns joined the NFL. They were in another league. What was it called? Even Brown's one another lead? Marty Schottenheimer, NFL coach with 200 wins, dies at 77

"So james some sad news in the nfl coaching world. If you're of a certain vintage you'll remember the name marty schottenheimer. He was a coach starting with the new york giants back in seventy five when he was their linebackers coach and kept coaching right up until two thousand six with the san diego chargers. He was a head coach in kansas city. Washington san diego. But i remember most with cleveland browns head coach in the mid eighties for them when they got. Oh so close to a super bowl. Berth in the afc title game. They're about to beat denver. They're about to go in for the winning touchdown in the final minute of the game and earnest byner get stripped just as he's about to step into the end zone offload jeremiah casteel. Dist reached in grabbed the ball off byner denver recovers and they hold on for thirty eight to thirty three win. And that was. It's called the fumble. If you say that in cleveland people know the fumble ohio and The brown had no shortage in sports of disappointments. So that would be one of them. When you say the fumble people know exactly what you're talking about and really gives until the cavaliers finally when an nba title really lent itself to the lovable loser. Tag that cleveland. Sports fans have had for many years but marty schottenheimer Certainly had lots and lots of success. I think he was like fourth all time as far as coaching winds. It's the oldest thing going back in time. When football. I started i. I actually don't think he was being disrespectful. Rounds of the browns disrespect. I i think really sounded terrible. But i think what he was trying to say was that we play the browns. I i understand. it's the playoffs. But it's another game against cleveland download. Maybe they should have you sit in with him when he does his his his press conferences. So you can straighten it out for and everybody took it. Always saying brown's allies talking. Steelers vs. Browns - Game Recap

"The cleveland browns. Two thousand two. The last time this franchise was in the playoffs but they beat the steelers yesterday's and they get in and dan. They started out running the football with nick. Chubb that power. Run game with nick chubb. You see that offensive line. Kind of changing. Denting the line of scrimmage and then chubs depth pig playmaking physical and not between the tackles but also got big enough speed and baker. Getting don is looking for tight. End up ten nine on first and goal in the third quarter this afternoon. Yeah the fact that they went back to this he missed it in the same play gets his is. Backside finds often prefer touchdown. No ben in this game mason rudolph way had some good moments. And then he had this one really good blitz packet by the browns defensive drop myles garrett into and then that safety to sit there like all right. Don't leave the ball mason. Rudolph shoots turner for this defense. Need mental switched sides on the field because it went to the fourth quarter and then it went to jarvis landry and the browns were up twenty four to nine not love this play. Call you kind of get. Landry sideline to sideline and you handed off for the touchdown. And then finally you get the ball out of pittsburgh's defense something that chase claypool done. So well look at his ability. Go up kind of contest for that. Catch over jumped. The fence and back touchdown pitchford. That made it twenty four sixteen and then under two minutes to go in the game and this is juju smith schuster and all of a sudden. It's twenty four twenty two dan. How about the two point conversion you gotta make sure at some point. This guy's got the opportunity to go high point of all scrambled around. Give them a chance to go get his hands on that. Football fewer still had chances stephen. Carlson somehow manages to come up with this on side kick. he's eighty nine cleveland. There for a moment there was kind of between the wickets. If you know what i mean. But he manages to hang onto it. And then dan baker mayfield runs with the first down the isis. The player not love the play call by defense came look at the emotion from baker mayfield. You don't kind of representing that city. Just look how much it means to him to finally get that done in cleveland. Good for him good for them. The browns are in the playoffs. The afc wild card round will kick off saturday.

"You can protect them and keep him upright so he has confidence to trust himself in the pocket give him play makers and maybe a run game not all three but give him at least two of the three and he can do it. What quarterback couldn't do it with that you oughta. Hey there's a lotta nick foles. Who was wednesday's backup for a long time. Go to chicago and look like a complete statue and look. I'm sub par quarterback from my point. He was in philadelphia and he had a good run game. He had an offensive line and he had weapons in the coaching staff. Knew everything in and out about him he was. So what are the colts. What are the colts. What are the colts. The colts have a running attack. They haven't offensively. They have a great defense. You're telling me that the colts could take frank reich and put him partner back with carson wentz in indianapolis. They couldn't go for years. Now you're going to get rid of philip rivers carson times going to catch up with him next year. If you could seamlessly bringing a guy like that it's a clean cut with philip rivers you bring a carson wentz to the colts next year. You've got those double screens setup from to come off the curl screen issue fifty percent from three screen that's where carson wentz could come in next year. Do it do it. It's a lot of money to take on for a risk. Is the risk worth the reward in terms of spending that kind of money especially if they cut the salary cap down like that's a lot to ask is all i'm saying do i think sam darnold is some amazing talent. Have i seen that. no. I haven't seen that quite frankly. No one has i. Don't care if you've watched every down in your jets fan. No one has but let's just be honest. Both of these quarterbacks are in similar situations in the fact that need a change of scenery. They need a new coaching staff. Things aren't going the way they want. There's probably going to be another quarterback in town next year. I get it. But sam darnold a lot less money so true so which one which one you take it sam. Dr sam darnold some point point. What's rookie contract ends at here. You got to pay whatever you have a year of of an example at least a year under your belt to see what he can do. You didn't set it up with the situation side to this. You said which quarterback do you think. You'd have a brighter future. That's what you asked. And i still don't know which one you believe in which ones giving you a and we answer. That's why because i'm going back and forth i would. I'd probably say carson wentz unbelievable but but but i don't feel comfortable saying that which is why i didn't save for the joke but this is why. There's always a concern with these quarterbacks coming out like a trevor lawrence. And it's not gonna happen with trevor lawrence. He's to just go to whatever team. But that's why you've had situations with guy like peyton manning now. I think i'm going to go back to tennessee for another year before. come out. that's why eli manning said no. I'm not going to play here. In san diego. Why these things happen because quarterback can be ruined if they come in a matter how talented they are. If it's an organization that sets them up to fail because now the conversation unfortunately about sam darnold is can even play in this league and he may be great and we just don't know 'cause he's been buried with the same vein. There's also now the caveat of playing quarterback that much money when they haven't shown improvement or super bowl and you're seeing that now with baker mayfield. You get paid. I don't know that. I pay baker mayfield. Because he's had four good games. Gimme a break. You don't want them to turn to the next carson. Wentz sean j j. will zubin were presented by progressive insurance. "The jets. I don't know what to say about the jets anymore. This is key sean. J willing zubin. I'm shay cornet. He is jordan cornet. Thanks for being with us these next couple of days we are holding it down for the three fellas and we are happy to be doing so happy holidays to everybody. Okay soap the jets squad named look. They win a football game so used to saying losing they win a football game against the rams over the loss they won but they actually lost because now they no longer have the number one pick in the nfl draft which we all assume they would take trevor lawrence. They would change their coaching staff. And things will be changed in new york forever and hopefully beyond the up apple. now the jacksonville. Jags have the number one overall pick because of scheduling and strength of schedule for now. That is true And so the question is what do you do if you are the jets and even further than that. What do you do at the quarterback position with sam darnold in that same vein the philadelphia eagles are in a predicament with their quarterback situation. There have now been reports that come out that say carson wentz's unhappy if he has to be the second tier quarterback in that system. Obviously jalen hurts is playing really good ball at the moment. He has an enormous contract. And so what do you do with carson. Wentz going forward so the question i ask you. Jay is at this point. If you're looking at sam darnold and you're looking at carson wentz and hey carson wentz could end up playing for the jets but that's for a later conversation. Who would you rather build your team around. Who do you have more trust in becoming a better. Qb in the future. Would it be sam darnold or would it be carson wentz. Look i get it sam darnold. Nothing has been done for. Sam darnold in his three seasons to show what he can be in this league. We saw it at usc. I go back to the every time i analyze. It hit juju schuster. He had ronald jones. He had those two guys at the skill positions while he was a trojan in college. He better skilled is in college. That he didn't have pros. You can never say that about anybody. Although you're probably about say with trevor lawrence when he gets to the league whether it's jacksonville or new york for him but when i look at it you have to go with carson wentz because yes sam darnold has not had any legitimate opportunity to be good in this league but special talents could still show you that. Hey i'm still special enough. We've had very small moments. Peeks into sam darnold at say scan top tier guy situation aside. We haven't seen anything to go. This guy is any different. From josh. rosen. Who was a complete non factor in this league at this point well we have seen with carson wentz though is a very capable quarterback and mvp caliber talent in this league carson. Wentz has shown that he could play great football. This year has completely ruined the confidence of carson wentz. It has put him in a spot. He's been bumped back so many spots where the question become can even be a player in asleep. You don't go from being an mvp caliber talent to a guy who can't fit somewhere in the league. i just don't see that happening carson wentz a change of scenery carson wentz should be welcomed. It's a handful of these franchises. That don't have a solution at quarterback in our imposition. It's still be really good. You can look at the colts. Would philip rivers is done after this year. Doing the one year service that he was asked to give them probably can't repeat it next year carson fits their in chicago. Carson fits their with the jets. Were sam darnold is carson fits their. I don't know a place where i'm confident saying. Gimme sam darnold and will be good. But i can't say about carson wentz so i'm going to win so why can't sam darnold be in that same. Category of change of scenery and a new coaching staff would make he could. But i haven't seen elite sam darnold. I've seen league carson wentz sign and if you've seen it you're more inclined comfortable inclined to go that ryan fine. Here's what i'll say. I don't wanna use the excuse that you don't have weapons around you and that's why you're struggling. Looks look at. Yes look at joe burrow okay. Joe burrow does not have the cream of the crop in cincinnati right now neither did ryan finley and cincinnati players. Get a lot better skill players than sam. Darnold lot better. How many wins the cincinnati. Have jordan come on. Cincinnati is not a good football team. But yet you still saw flashes of greatness from a player like joe burrow without the weapons around him. Okay come on the guy. Barely run game joe. Mixon was hurt for half those games. My point being is that while. I think it changes scenery is always a second kind of life for any. You can name the sport. Any player could be baseball basketball football. I think changing the scenery helps. But i will say this. Both of these quarterbacks are liabilities carson. Wentz has got a lot of money coming his way however you shake it out if you move him if you keep them if you build around him you bench him. I don't care if you could be worth that money somewhere else. Money quarterback you haven't seen performing the postseason at a high level. It's a lot of money. That's that's where a lot of these guys get paid off of not showing anything in the postseason share. But it's what he's showed in the regular season that people would argue. Why not worth that. One hundred million dollars exactly my point. Like if you're gonna pay a guy that much money or you're going to take on a contract for that much money you better be helping. My team gets the playoffs. And you better have some durability and that is the further problem with both of these quarterbacks durability sam darnold is constantly hurt and i look that's not all his fault but it's true carson wentz has shown durability issues late nineties which managed to stay healthy while he's been brutalized this whole season. Which which is why do share when we argue. What do i need to do when we arguing. I ask you what. I don't know if i can leave the room. I want to leave the room. I want to clear my head. I just wanted to me just want to get away. Thanks for failing that test right there. We promise we're married. i like to. I like to leave the room when i leave the room. A comeback. it's much more productive true. It's the same thing. Here carson wentz people have seen too much ugly carson wentz this year and i get it but carson wentz is literally fearing for his life because he's been sacked more than anybody in the league. He is very for his life when he drops back. He's cave to the all the pressure. There i know these are excuses. I'm aware madeira excuses. If he's coming to my team. If i was a fan of that team and we needed a quarterback i could i could. I could mitigate what i've seen and understand make the compromise and understand that i'm aware of this guy can be good again and so it's an excuse. Yes but it's what i believe carson wentz if put around the proper pieces can be great and i think dan orlovsky said something in this. This somewhat of a metaphor. i'm gonna change it to make it my own. But he made a comparison to basketball. And there's guys in a league that you give them a basketball you roll it out there and say make something happen for our team. And they do. I played with a lotta guys. And i was the guy who could set the screens to open them up. They need to come off double screen. They need to come off. Momentum right foot left foot get those feet set square shoulders to the hoop and they're knocking down fifty percent of their threes. That's elite carson wentz. Maybe is a guy that you can't give them. The basketball like joe burrow and say go out there and just win the game with the basketball. Feel the double teams triple team but give me a bucket but carson wentz is. The guy comes off that double screen. It's feet set knocks down a shot. Give him an offensive line..

"So chris we need to reiterate and in in comeback circle back to a point that we brought up during the quick takeaways show after the game and actually seeing things play out in a full scope started to realize what the impact of not having james bradberry was. It's it's simple to just say. Oh no james bradberry and that's going to impact your passing defense. That was the simple approach to it. But when we actually watch and see we observed in noticed. And i noticed that isaac yada was being thrown into a lot of contested catch situations. And i don't think you autumn played horrible. I don't think this was his worst game of the year. We've seen him do a lot worse but asking him to be the number one corner on this giants team. He was put in these situations where he had to make. Contested plays on fifty fifty balls in what we witnessed is him not being capable of doing that. He's just not james bradberry a lot of catches. There are three specific ones that come to mind in the first half alone and had that been james bradberry which we tend that we have seen all year bradberry were in those spots. Those passes straight up. I can confidently say. I don't think they would have been completed. Because that is what james bradberry does best. He shuts down opportunities for guys to make contest to catches and we didn't have bradberry for obvious reasons. He wasn't out there. And that was where that impact allowing contested catches on third downs and there is also even a touchdown. Play to jarvis. Landry that if that was bradbury. I think it would come out differently. Yeah and i think that is bradbury's biggest value to the giants. You know i his ability to match up on a lot of different receivers and handle them by himself. Which makes life easier for the rest of the giants defensive backs but also on third downs in the red zone. Patrick graham likes to put james bradberry where he knows. The offense wants to go you know. Put him on jarvis. Landry or rashad higgins if if they identify tendencies in the browns offense that they like to go to this particular receiver in this particular situation but bradberry it look as though his man is open and i think that is why we again and again see quarterbacks attack the guy bribery has in coverage and we just keep asking. Why is he doing this. Why are they doing this. Why do they keep doing this. And it's bribery. Makes it look like the guy is open right until he slams the window shut on them. Now i'm i do want to temper this just a little bit in in saying that the giants didn't lose because they didn't have james bradberry. It was a it was absolutely a factor. But i also think the browns watched the cardinals tape. They saw how the cardinals attacked the giants zone. Defenses and once again. We saw the giants on in his own defense. About two thirds of the time they played some man but not much and the browns consistently went with a lot of zone. Beaters a lot of Layered routes to put the giants in coverage conflicts and responsibility conflicts and then baker mayfield. Just saw where the bodies were congregating and went elsewhere and that made it very easy especially as well as he was playing to move the ball and keep the offense on the field and the giants defense on the field and keep getting opportunities to score and convert and opportunities for his team to execute. So i think having bradberry would have had impact the browns also had. They had a very good idea of how to attack this defense and continuing the conversation on secondary players that participated in this game. There's two guys. I wanna hit on one a little bit more than the other julian love was asked to play outside corner that he hasn't really done since his time. At the university of notre dame he was originally outside corner the giants then convert him and move him to safety and he's been playing a little bit inbetween in his time here with the giants. Since patrick graham has taken over he's been kind of moving around different using him as a movable piece he's been a herring consistent throughout the season some really good games some questionable games but julian love that he did pretty good considering the circumstances. He didn't grade that well on in. You can do with that with whatever you want. I know some people aren't fam- fans of taking those grades and taking that one hundred percent as what they are depicting the performance as but what julian love had to do going out there playing outside corner. I think that's an indication of what he should be used more to do. Playing maybe a little bit more slot corner being asked to cover guys more instead of just playing that strictly safety role in space. I i think you can probably take what came from this game and move forward with it and try to increase his role a little bit more because he did a pretty good job. Yeah i really liked how julian love played. And i think that's something. The giants can carry forward from this game. Yeah something making learn. Take away from it and incorporated into future game. Plans is using. Julian love as that. Swiss army knife in the secondary as a movable piece because he can play safety he can play slot corner. He can't play outside corner and with as much as patrick. Graham likes it using versatile defenders to mix and match creating take advantage of match ups. Put a lot on quarterbacks plate with identifying alignments and disguising coverages and rotating coverages at all of that the ability and versatility that julian loves showed against the browns should be an asset for that going forward. I also want to give some credit. To xavier mckinney who is now getting more and more opportunities to play. He had a very increased role. And i'm sure not. having james. bradberry was part of that decision to work him in more. But seeing xavier mckinney out there. He wasn't somebody that really stood out the first time in watching this game live just because we don't have the back end view during the broadcast on pretty much every single play but his impact was starting to stand out a little bit more. And i think that we're only getting the early. Glimpse of what xavier mckinney can become with this defense maybe next season because right now he's basically playing. Preseason i if we're being realistic here all these younger guys. The first four games was the preseason. For them saver mckinney sits out all this time now is his preseason and i think next year is when. We'll see xavier mckinney. Take that true step forward. But i'm going to continue to watch out for him and see what he does. Because i think he's only going to get better as the season finishes up. And i think it's probably a good thing that we didn't really hear about him during a game. Generally if you hear from safety is because they either made a great play or a great play was made against them. If you don't hear their name called that's not a bad thing. And i do think it's actually kind of similar to julian love. It's a good thing that he played as much as he didn't. He played as many different roles as he did. He played some slot corner played. Free safety played some boxer strong safety and like jillian love having that versatility. Oh he what mckinney wasn't drafted to be a center fielder for a cover one defense that that was what the browns were hoping to get from grant delpit before he got hurt. The giants drafted mckinney to be again another movable peace and other defensive swiss army knife and having both of those players show the ability to do that that might not help this year but it will give them tools to work with as they move forward into next year. Well folks that is going to be it for us on this film breakdown episode. We're going to move on to the giants next game. They are very close to finishing up this season. We will do a film breakdown as we always do so again. Wrap up these final few weeks. That is going to be probably coming out to you on thursday if anything changes just because we have the holiday coming up We will definitely keep you.

Jalen Hurts inspires Eagles to victory in first NFL start

"At least for one week philadelphia. Eagles fans can feel confident with the caliber of play. They got from the quarterback position and jalen hurts leading philadelphia to the outright upset as an eight point. Underdog against the seemingly unbeatable new orleans saints. The eagles offense showed a little bit of a pulse and the saints defense was nowhere to be found in the first thirty minutes where they surrendered more than three hundred yards. It's kyle shanahan could've done his job. The eagles would have been or would be right in the thickens. Visger that divisions a mess. I mean every time you want to give them credit for making strides ford. They they pull you back in and like you said kyle shanahan and company allowing washington to get the improbable win. But i digress silly. Despite the washington win increase their playoff chances by about seven or eight percent. So there's still a fighting chance you mentioned this game and that's what it came down to is getting out to a quick start. Philadelphia thought for the first thirty minutes. Did a really good job. And they control the trenches. Which is a little shocking. Because you had this. Eagles offensive line that was was really depleted. You've lost peter's as well in that's against one of the more talented defensive front fours in the nfl. The new orleans saints miles sanders woke up and decided to contribute. You'll get the eagles offense. Ten point four yards per russian. At first half fifty percent rushing success rate for explosive runs all in the first half. Doug peterson game plan to me was was pretty good. The script resolved the playcalling was decent in. the eagles. did enough in the first half to hang on for dear life in the second. Come away with that win. And and keep themselves alive defensively. I thought before what feels like every single starter for the eagles left the game in the second half. Billy did a nice job defensively in that first. Thirty minutes stanzas. Well three point six yards per play allowed thirty three percent success rate allow tastes. Him only ran at twice in the first half. He was semi accurate throwing it. What it was just really short. Four point three yards per attempt in that first half so across the board that might have been the eagles best half football. This season they were. They were fantastic in. It was certainly against a team that had more talent. It just looked like philadelphia. Wanted it more along. The lines of scrimmages

Cleveland Browns to Face Baltimore Ravens in Monday night game

"There are a lot of big matchups. You have the Sunday night football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills. But Monday night football is no joke as we get the Baltimore Ravens going up against the Cleveland Browns, let's head to Cleveland right now to be joined by my God, she go Boram and she got you doing my friend. I'm doing well, but he ever you doing fantastic. Let's start here really impressive win for the Browns or last Sunday against Tennessee. How did they get out to that big lead the first half? I think it was a credit Torus Lee. You know Baker had the great first half, but I thought Kevin's too fancy. Um, you know, all week long. It was talked about, you know? Hey, they're going to establish the run and you know, awful play action. Hopefully be able to hit some passes downfield, and it was kind of those two teams gonna marry each other in that regard. But really, I mean Kevin's to fan ski, and he has been talking about it recently in the last few weeks. About how You know, Baker kind of the training wheels coming off a little bit and and kind of letting him let him go a little bit, And he clearly did that. In the first half, Baker found a rhythm. He was I mean, white hot. And, uh, you know, he just kept going and you know, they thought it was a great game pick plan, but I thought more importantly, it was about Kevin's too fancy, just trusting him and saying You know what? Go out, do it. You've got the talent and go get it done, And he did. It's funny because when you kind of hold it up against the last couple of weeks, because I remember at least my timeline with buzz, and I imagine yours was there was a wide open receiver in the Jacksonville game that he missed, and I'm sitting there thinking to myself. I'm like, how in the world does an NFL quarterback missed that play? You also had a Karim hunt coming underneath them. He could have could have dumped it off to him, and probably Both would have scored a touchdown. When you look at Baker Mayfield, would you say last Sunday is the best that he's played in the Browns uniforms. Yes, without a doubt. Um, you know, you said, uh, you know, second half furs that Bangles verse versus the Bangles. What was that week? Seven. I think it was He looked pretty good. Um, but I think this one coming right out of the gate. Hey, just seemed to be in such a rhythm. And you mean you saw him? It wasn't just dink and dunk. He was thrown passes downfield. Um, he kind of really caught Kind of sea and Mike Grable's de um by surprise. I think a little bit, but he's just You know, he seems to be a lot more comfortable parents and a lot more confident in the offense, which is what Kevin's defense Key had been saying, really since the midway point when they had their bye week. And I think last week we hope anyway was a sign of things to come. I mean, obviously, you know Tennessee's defense. Not what it was before, Uh, say last couple of years, but, um, you know, he did. He did a hell of a job. Now it's a matter of you know, you got Baltimore coming up on Monday. You still got another match up with the Steelers, and we all know what the Steelers did last time. Now it's okay. Can can Baker keep this thing going against two teams that have given him some issues this year alone, So hopefully that's gonna be that's gonna be the big the big thing for Baker. Mike, What's the feeling

The Next Generation

The Next Generation

"Recently. The washington post published an article about how young adults twenty-somethings called generation z. Are creating a real shift in how viewers connect with sports. And how many connect with sports if you think of the traditional ways of consuming sports you root for a team you watch and attend their games. You might be completely disconnecting from generation z. As an example the post cites. Espn's internal data that says that the percentage of twelve to seventeen year old stick and ball fans who call themselves. Avid fans has dropped from forty two percent ten years ago to thirty four percent today. What if i was to tell you that young people care more about what an athlete binge watches on net flicks. Then what he or she thinks about the next opponent or that viewers might not care about the athletes next opponent at all only that the athlete is a culturally significant. Figure if that sounds ridiculous to you then you might not understand this new generation of consumers. But if you're a decision maker stewarding the future of this sport you'd better learn to understand these jen's ears and give them what they want or you won't have a sport left to oversee now. The washington post article talked about gen z as relates to stick and ball sports. But we're going to do is spend this time talking about how horse racing relates to generation z. And what leaders in this sport can slash should do in order to reach them to do that. We have invited guests from a number of different viewpoints. I we have a racing executive looking to market his product. He is gregory. Vincent who is the vice president of marketing at gulfstream park. Next we have to young people with us. One became so hooked on this sport that he's now going through the race track industry program at the university of arizona. He is michael sand duly and full disclosure. His father matt has been a longtime espn event producer. Our third guest is madison. Bregman the founder and ceo of girls spelled with a z. At the end she consults with clients trying to reach young people. Young girls in particular. According to her linked in page she's worked with a number of clients including the nfl and she's the perfect person for this discussion because she can self reflect if you will on trends involving generation z. So welcome to all three of you. Let's start with mattie when it comes to sports in general how would you describe the differences between what appeals to gen z irs versus older generations. What degen's ears care about. Yeah i think the big thing is that where older generations would sit down and watch an entire football baseball basketball games. This generation is so much more driven by watching clips or highlights. The way that we're consuming it with that. Being said is different too because we're not watching it on tv watching it on mobile devices on different platforms like twitch and and snapchat instagram. And really the way that we're interacting with teams and players as different as well where older generations once again. We're fans of specific teams because you grew up in that city or whatever have some kind of connection to it and this generation more fan of individual players can so for example. If i'm a huge fan of baker mayfield. I may not necessarily love the cleveland browns. But i liked baker and would wear a skirt near water. Whoever it may be michael san duly. You've heard what she just said about your generation. This is your generation. How does that jibe with your thinking as you were being attracted to horse racing. Well horse racing is the number one sport in my heart. But i but i'm a fan of all sports so i completely agree with matt in the sense that our generation likes players rather than teams a lot of my friends like lebron or curry and so on in horse racing. You can kind of do that. You pick your hero for the year for lack of our term. Unfortunately nowadays everybody gets sent to orderly and this year you've built a brand of this year you could arguably make the case for to the law in tis. The law garnered a lot of fan interest because he came from a grassroots fail. I think it was the saratoga. Select that nolan in toga. Bottom out of and he grew into this the big story line. And that's what everybody likes. Everybody likes a big story. That's what attracts fans.

"cleveland browns" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain

"The steelers pregame show. We are loving it. It's browns week. It's not normally browns week, but this is a rivalry now Kevin this is back to it's not the ravens because as you mentioned before, there's respect factor when you're playing the Baltimore Ravens but the Cleveland Browns have definitely announced themselves as a rival to the Pittsburgh steelers they're not just the They're just not the the little brother nipping at the heels anymore. They're dangerous team. How dangerous are the Cleveland browns especially on offense with that number one rushing attack where does Baker Mayfield? Where does Baker go ahead and fit in? Well yet. Answer I question man they're averaging almost thirty eight points a game of LS four weeks so that is sort of the definition dangerous to me in. Pittsburgh hasn't faced an offense like them all year long so that that'll be a significant challenge for the steelers defense. You know Mayfield's his numbers. His role numbers are not overwhelming. You know he's got he's got less than a thousand yards passing through five games. So He's averaging under two hundred yards a game. He's got nine nine touchdowns against four interceptions, which is good. Know it's good. Not Great. He's not wowing you with those numbers but he's not making killer stakes. He's not really forcing the ball into coverage as much as he did in the past and like I said earlier. fancies doing a nice job, get them out of the pocket. He's only six one and he doesn't really have you know like the the pocket IQ that drew brees who's another you know sort of shorter quarterback does so I think you struggle sometimes we just see in the field when he's in the pocket. So fast he's got him out you know on a lot of boots and rollouts naked and and he makes really good things happen. You know when when when he's out there so he's he to me he's he's a smarter quarterback than he was his first Couple years in the NFL. So it'd be big for the steelers would be you'll keep in the pocket man and we can. We can find him to try to throw from an area of weakness or at least not an area of strength. You mentioned that their offensive line is better. They do have some players the game on the offensive line of leave tellers, one of them Am. Chris Hubbard. Our old friend is going to be playing at guard for the very first time in his career. Kansas? steelers exploit that. Yeah I mean you know I don't. The steelers are pretty darn good at at knowing when to let dudes go and. You know. Very few guys have have left Pittsburgh and gotten better wherever they they went. You know I mean obviously the levy on bell news is he's in the news these days and he's kind of case in point and. I Don I is Chris Hubbard. Starting, quality player Chris Hubbard good enough to be able to. To Block some of the guys on the steelers front I I have my doubts about that. So I'll be very interesting to see. Palestinian. Scheme that are you know one of the big things that coaches tried to do when they're scheming is is look for the weak link on an opponent figure out ways to exploit that. So will it be with stunts? You know I mean in the steelers GonNa run blitz at Hubbard or they gonNA are they going to try to explain it in pass protection but I do think he'll be target You mentioned stopping the run is paramount for dealers defense, and of course, with out nick? Chubb there. It gets a little bit easier. But Kareem Hunt is pretty amazing and himself, and in fact, I would probably say the Kareem Hunt is the best a backup running back in the game. If you're talking about best running backs in the game, I, would probably put him probably in the top twenty as well, and he's just as dangerous and you know he is a backup. So he's in there I. Don't think they lose a step but if you look back over the last few weeks, in fact, the entire season, the running backs that this team stopped include Saquon Barkley. Melvin Gordon, David Johnson and for the most part Mile Sanders with I mean if you take away that seventy four yard run and you can't take it away but the rest of the game, he only had twenty yards outside of that huge run. They pretty much have been stopping the run and that's why they're the number one rush defense in the league. What scares me about Kareem. Hunt. Kevin is the fact that a lot of those. Running back. So we've talked about earlier. They fared a lot better against the steelers when they were catching the ball out of the backfield. Ream hunt does that better than almost anybody? How much of a concern is that to the steelers game and is that something that could break the steelers? Yeah, that's a that's a worry for sure and It's not just hunt. You know they've got. now, thematic tight end in Austin Hooper and they got Obviously, a receiving core that you know has some elite names. To it. So there's they got a they can beat you in a bunch of different ways And the they're the most well rounded. Offense the steelers have seen so far, and if the steelers play a lot of three four, then you know you're you're putting another defensive lineman on the field and you're taking a more athletic guy off. So if the steelers are in three four, we're going to see Cleveland try to exploit that by running. Spread, set some empty stuff motion hunt out of the backfield trying to get him out in space maybe matched up the steelers linebacker I think that'll be a real chess match. In terms of personnel battle and if the steelers go to five or you know or go to some kind of nickel or is Cleveland GonNa, try and go heavy because Duke Johnson's a pretty good back zone. Right? He's a he's a slammer between the tackles Kinda Guy. So I'll be very interested to see how Cleveland Attacks Pittsburgh's personnel, packages, and vice versa. Well, that's that is really interesting. That's something that we definitely really need to look out for. So you mentioned earlier on in the show kt the steelers and what they really need to do on defense to stop the browns. The steelers need to do on offense to go ahead and win this game. I mean, ideally, I'd love to see him control the football you know. techs clock and make first downs and keep Cleveland off the field. I don't think the steelers will alter their game plan just to try to believe the clock because you know they're most effective when they're they're taking what a defense is given them. But you know I think that they need to continue to mix it up mean Cleveland has been great on they've been opportunistic. Here's the best description for them. You know they've given. Up, one hundred sixty nine points which I think is like the sixth most in the League but they've been able to generate turnovers they've got more you know they've created more turnovers than anybody. So you know when they've needed a big plan defense, they've gotten it but they'd give up a lot of yards and a lot of points. So I think the steelers. Can play defense by playing playing good offense I think it's a good. It's a good way to run the football You know I think Garrett runs himself out of plays in the run game a lot. You know he's so aggressive getting up to feel that the I think you can take advantage of that. I think we can screen 'em you know so. And you know the steelers have so many weapons on offense. Now that whatever defenses scheming to take away, we seem to have an answer for it offensively or at least the find an answer as the game goes. So is opportunity for the steelers and score a lot of points I think they're going to have to I think it's GonNa. Be a high scoring game. As Chase Klay poll have multiple touchdown game or does juju takeover or somebody else? Yes. Yes. That's the thing. Right that's the Nice thing. Okay. So let's say Cleveland schemes to take away capable but say they rotate safety up let's see. Let's say they they try and jam a more on at the scrimmage which you know good luck with that because he's a beast but There's an there's another answer in you know like the fact that like Juju Antioch Pay Johnson had quite games last week you know and we're we're hardly noticeable at all steelers scored thirty points was really exciting because you know obviously, it hints at their at their diversity. So yeah, I don't know I don't know but I don't know how you know the browns will defend Klay Pool but you know they can't overcompensate anywhere because the steelers can exploit them elsewhere. So, this is something we talked about on the steeler preview on Thursday night and streaming. Now go ahead and check that.

"No. Coming off of their big win against the Philadelphia Eagles in week five. Now preparing for the Cleveland browns and week six, the browns are foreign one. They have won four games in a row. This is the steelers Tartu believe this is the steelers first AFC north game of the year. Every other team in the AFC north has played at least two divisional games in the steelers have yet to play one nonetheless Mike Tomlin was in front of cameras. Zoom, we all know what that's like now twenty twenty. Mike Tomlin was answering questions. But before he got to the questions, as he always does, he started the press conference off with an injury of date, never the three players all offensive players in all starters that left the game at some point on Sunday at Heinz field with injuries, they were deontay Johnson left in the first quarter with a back injury. Dave decastro left in the WanNa say this the early part portion of the first half with an abdominal injury markey's Pouncey at the very end of the game with a foot injury. Let's give recap on all those because my mom talked to and he was very optimistic about deonte Johnson and Marquees pansy playing this week on Sunday. He said that their injuries, my jeopardize their practice time early in the week but ultimately, he sees them as being able to play. But as always, he always practices with their practice availability is going to ultimately lead to their availability. On Sunday he says that every week he did not sound optimistic about David Decastro For whatever reason, I don't know what the abdominal injury is. He just said still waiting first evaluations take place. He might shock everyone be able to practice on not holding out hope but there was some good injury news outside of those three players that would be none other than Derek Watt and Marcus Allen Derek Wad who's been out well, it's been two weeks. Is Years Injured obviously week four by helped him eunice last week Allen Saint thing they got hurt. In the same game against the Texans in week three, they both missed week five Allen has that plantar fasciitis in his foot watts dealing with that hamstring he said they'd been rehabbing well, they're getting over their injuries they should be able to return to the practice field this week they're not out of the woods yet. The biggest thing to keep in mind here folks is that how their body and how their specific injuries bounce back from the increased workload will dictate. Whether they could play beginning those two guys back especially when it comes to running, the football will be important heading in two weeks six before he will goes onto week six tomboys recaps the game from week five. This case it was the Philadelphia Eagles game. He said it was not a clean game by any stretch of the imagination anyone watches. Knows that called it a learning experience for a lot of different reasons mainly the third down defense he talked about how? Really, the steelers didn't control circumstances meaning he even mentioned how a lot of times they give up give up third down conversions they were in circumstances that were favorable to the steelers feigning mentioned right off the bat and I'm sure everyone that's listening thought of the same thing that third and nine draw miles sanders takes seventy four yards to the house for a touchdown. He labeled that as a miserable experience in something that they're going to have to learn from. But he said on the flip side of that script, is that the steelers offense on third down was tremendous and he credited Ben Rothlisberger saying the third down review was making the above the neck plays. Were tremendous and he said really when you think about where they are right now they're four. Now he's been a different story every single time they stepped onto the field, but they've found a way to win all four of their games and really when you think about it every single game that they've won they've wanted in a different fashion they've never been truly dominant for a stretch of four quarters, but they have found a way to win this team seems to have a knack for finding a way to win and that's a good thing for any team in particular the. Pittsburgh steelers then he goes onto week six opponent he said it's AFC north football it. S scene northbound. In the kitchen and it gets hot in there, meaning that they're ready for their first day of North Game I'm sorry I I laugh because the quote was just so ridiculous but that's Mike Tomlin for you and I'm sure he's telling his players that it's GonNa be hot in the kitchen. He said this week is going to give them a really good opportunity to focus and work worry about their preparation. It's not that they didn't prepare before, but there's a different feeling about. This game, the first divisional game in ultimately the first time, they've played a big time contender. As we said, heading into week six, the BROWNS are foreign one they've won four straight games. They are considered to be one of the better teams in the AFC are they at upper echelon team at this point who knows but we do know they're super competitive. It's IT'S GONNA be a tough game and he talked about the defense he mentioned myles Garrett, the defensive player of the year candidate. He just talked about how disruptive he is and how he has a wide arsenal of pass rushing. They move him around at times eee also went on to. Talk about the death on the defensive line players like Sheldon Richardson, he went to the secondary with karl-josef. He spoke glowingly of him coming out of West. Virginia, he was a player, the steelers really light in that draft class that was a trade obviously with the Las Vegas Raiders to bring Karl jobs to Cleveland, and then of course, the ball hawking cornerback Denzel award is their top unit in the secondary. He just was really emphatic on how good this defenses for the Cleveland Browns then he went and talked about the offense talks about depth of the board wide receivers. We know those names, Odell, Beckham Junior Jarvis, landry tight ends you're talking about. And David coup even talked about Huber who came over in a in free agency. I, believe from Atlanta and then you have running back death even though Nicholas Nick Chubb is not going to be one of these tough Kareem. Hunt..

"Season in. But you know what? We're not a bad team they got some good players of course, having a couple of number one overall picks will do that for you expect this to be a closer game than some might think for Dallas to get the DUB, you gotTa Stop Niche of limit the rushing attack and forced Baker to turn it over speaking of turnovers. Cowboys got to get out of their own way five times the last two games giving it up in their own territory. They can just do that. They'll be fine look for Amari to show up big cowboys pull away late forty, one twenty-one. To get the DUB, you gotTa Stop Nick Chubb I like the way that anything's on the subject of the couch turning it over in their own territory I've talked about this all week long I really just. Unbelievable statistic for the Dallas Cowboys they have had thirty six true possessions to this point on the season they had one at the end of the first half against the Seahawks doesn't really count obviously just kind of take a knee and go to the locker room to thirty six true possessions do not how many of those possessions they have started on the plus side of the fifty yard line. One. One out of thirty six, these second best starting field position for the cowboys. This season has come against the Atlanta Falcons after the onset cave nobody could believe that's just that's just not cool. That's is not cool. That is not gonNA fly that has to change and with Dan you gotta get some turn overs. Let's turn it over to Dave Halperin long story I'll give the spark no diversion. I met Dave Halpern at Dallas cowboys training camp in San, Antonio Texas in two thousand seven after that, I checked out blogging the boys for the first time. I was still in high school college benefit and ever since luck after work here. Now it's so awesome. Dave. How one of the greatest people that covers the Dallas cowboys here is what he thinks happens two-day between the cowboys and the browns. My name is Dave Halperin. I, think the cowboys won't win the game this week because I think their defense is gonNA play better than they previously shown so far in the season. Think the offense for both teams will produce pretty well. But in the end, the Cowboy's defense will step up and make a few plays. My final score will be cowboys thirty, four Brown's twenty four. X factor is Everson. Griffen I think he's heard enough about his productions so far this year and they'll step up and make a few big plays. Getting a handful of thirties, twenties, scores, and that would kind of check all the boxes that we've talked about right like some funds, fantasies and points and scoring I can see it for what it's worth. I like the Everson Griffen call. Obviously a lot was made last week about the standards change and whatnot. Everson. Griffen has a sack on the season for what it's worth Alden. Smith. Obviously leads the NFL. In sacks, which is really cool and really unexpected. I think a lot of people. Had hopes for. Alden but. Still I mean I don't think anybody thought this would be a possibility. But it is an awesome so. Let's continue on with our predictions. We've got three cowboys wins so far. Let's talk to another one of our front page riders here at in the boys dot com, the one, and only the legendary Tom Rile here is what he thinks happens day between Dallas. CLEVELAND. High this is Tom Mile. I think that the cowboys are going to win this game to get back to five hundred because I saw that Prescott and wide receivers are just on fire and I don't think the Cleveland browns are going to have the answer to that. Baker Mayfield has been skittish in the pocket and I I. Believe it. We're going to see the the cowboys pass rush really rattle him, and probably get a few sack on him to help. I think a surprising kind of x factor, which is strange. Giving his name is going to be as Iki earlier because I think the browns are GonNa be so focused on trying to stop the pass that Elliot's GonNa. Gas Him a few times. I think the score is GONNA wind up about thirty, four, twenty, three in the cowboys favor. The Zeke, the Zeke the now, just kidding pass the ball please don't don't run on first down cowboys but feed at the appropriate time. That's all that we're saying I do think that's an interesting perspective that Tom has I certainly think that Cleveland is aware that Dallas cowboys are having a lot of success via the past I think that Cleveland, obviously has had success in the run game. Early on I think we could see the kind of old school you WanNa burn up clock want to dominate. Time position from Kevin fans by the way, this is the first time. This season that Mike McCarthy is facing a first time head coach first time he's doing. So as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys obviously, that is an interesting factor here as well. The last time the cowboys played the browns somebody could fact check me on this if I'm wrong just to kind of put in perspective how long ago? This was I believe it was after the cowboys beat the browns and they really beat them. When they were coming back from Cleveland when they did the Mannequin challenge on their airplane and Kobe was like halfway in the compartment or you put the suitcase and stuff yeah. Remember that I mean like the management, Challenge Harlem shake things used to be so simple but let's Get to our next prediction we've. Four. Cowboys wins as far as predictions are concerned. What about Roy White. You can hear Roy wide as mentioned every Thursday here on the blogs podcast network he co hosts broadcast in the boys with our attempt can who once again, you can hear to day.

"When you want the real deal like a good neighbor state farm is there but that's our fantasy advice as far as the pre-game is concerned here on blogging the boys and it is now time for predictions. That's why we're GONNA. Tell you exactly what we think is going to happen between the Dallas Cowboys and the Cleveland Browns, and we're going to do it with all of our friends on the podcast with all of our staffers, not all of them technically but a lot of them. First up is one of only two time superbowl champion Tony Casillas. Now Oklahoma did lose on Saturday for the second time. So I bet is not too pleased but tony recorded this before. All of that happened in Tony gave US prediction. Who He thinks is going to win here is Tony Casillas his prediction for Dallas Cowboys Cleveland Browns and all the fund that's going to happen on Sunday afternoon. Stone Casillas Costa the seven five. Oh. This is my prediction for browns cowboys. First of all, defensively, cowboys got to stop the run led by mich up and Kareem Hunt that's something they want established Baker Mayfield their quarterback is a guy that likes to play action. That's what he does. So it's going to be very, very important that both ends all the Smith and the markets Lorne Lawrence keep him inside the pocket and making more of a vertical thrower in the middle of the fill something he is not Comfortable with Downfield the offensively for the cowboys continued to do what you've been doing that Prescott is a plan what some really really good football and be able to try to sabotage against a Myles Garrett type of defense that will be the key in this game. My last one eliminate the mistakes had been self inflicting over the last three games, minimize the mistakes and don't give up a lot of points. So that's my prediction Some of my keys prediction score has cowboys win this game thirty, one to twenty. A double digit win for the Dallas Cowboys according to Tony. Casillas. Again here, every Tuesday hit on the block of the boys podcast now on the seven five, Oh Tony and chop it up. We discuss what happened either the day before generally two days before for the cow and so will obviously be talking about what happened would tend to cowboys and the Browns on Tuesday also slip in the fact that Oklahoma laws, we have to talk about what happened at Texas am Hey, it's. Alabama. It's fine but Tony has got a big time win for the cowboys coming up. If the cowboys good to two and two I think that there will be some optimism sort of floating around cowboys twitter, which brings us to our next prediction. Danny Phantom Danny Phantom is one of our front page writers over a blog on the boys dot com. One of the more optimistic people that covers the cowboys four blog on the boys, and here is Danny going to happen on Sunday afternoon? and Stan Rogers on twitter at any fan of twenty four listen. We saw this game on the schedule and thought we got this the browns have had a winning.

"Okay so we're back our modell. He's in Baltimore. Super strange any makes a speech at Camden yards. Which is where the Baltimore Orioles play. Video Baltimore rejoiced Monday as Cleveland Browns. Owner Art Modell announced his intention to move the story browns franchise to Baltimore and announces that he's relocating the Browns to Baltimore for the ninety sixties literally for the next season. No girl this blindsided everyone. Her Dad must have been devastated Walkman. Walk me through your whole like what was happening that night in your home. I want you to know that like the next day like I had school and like every class started with teachers being like I was like a version count there avail Allen. Let's let's take a minute to process what has happened. It was a big deal like everyone was blindsided. The coach the city. The team like everyone this asshole. Total devastation chaos. I mean this team is literally the heart of the city for some. It was too much to be sad to see them. Go how to react. Some knew exactly what they wanted to do. Fans the stadium seats to them as momentum. Thirty one were torn out taking home. Memento others ripped off seats in on the stadium grounds. A woman's crying man says he's devastated. Was that woman you now. You're thinking I was a tiny baby like and now you're like where you this yesterday told is this. How old is retina? A highlander was born in one thousand. Nine seventy seven so fans reportedly through faxes member of those guys over the walls of the NFL offices. In Cleveland. Fun which is just brush pass through. They must have been like. I'm I'm picturing like a photocopier machine. The paper like the faxes angry fans papers like paper. Humans a machine. Maybe people were upset like actually probably machine or to was thrown. They sent like so much mail and so many phone calls to the NFL franchise owners. They like took to TV radio and newspapers to protest calling your senators cardiac kids. T shirts replaced with mucks. Odell t shirts you get it you get with that meant. I need that as well. I need all of this merch. That's amazing and this was so big. A ton of huge companies pulled their sponsorships McDonald's and continental Ireland. It was so good when the as Shitty as it is. Money is what it's all about. That's it so like legit here. Mc Donald's and Continental Airlines. I don't know if you remember them at the time. They Cleveland with one of their hubs. Anyway they were like we want no part of this madness. These people are angry and guess what a lot of people in Cleveland eat. Mcdonald's even the Pittsburgh steelers who are legit are hated rivals like there is no love lost between these two teams. They're our biggest rival. They like their fans protested because they understood. What a big deal. This was your on my show of support as a football fan that you would recognize that that to be a terrible thing season ticket holders of the browns brought a class action lawsuit against Modell who settled for three million dollars. Whatever you don't subtle unless you guilty so it was basically like art. Modell saying to a city thing you plan your whole autumn around that thing that keeps you moving through those brutal. Cleveland winters literally one of the mainstays. That your identity is defined by. Well I'm taking it away till Baltim- and you don't have any time. It's happening at the end of the season so that maybe one of the craziest innings is that he gives no time. It's not like we're GONNA move out here from now. So let's have like these big laying hourly now nothing no time to grieve. It's kind of like how we had no time truly to. And then all of a sudden we were locked in our homes is not true we did have time to prepare and we didn't hear that Donald Trump we had time. Yeah I think he listens to this. Yeah I think he does. So modell was claiming. His money was running low and his patience was wearing thin and so he had to move. Here's the deal. Of course Cleveland Curse as ever days. After modell made the announcement public the city passed a referendum that did allow them to fund the improvements on the stadium. That modell had asked for but it was too late. Okay great so then. They don't have to move. No I was. A to lay late already had signed. Oh Hitch Pau facts away. So modell expressed a lot of sadness. This has been a very very tough road for my family and for me I leave Cleveland. Ohio thirty five years and leave my heart. Good part of my heart and soul there can never forget the clients of the people of Cleveland. The fans it's afforded the browns for years with frankly came down to a simple proposition. I had no choice. Okay so never forget the kindness of the people. Yeah you forgot it. The second you took the team to Baltimore Bitch please. Fuck that mow down knows what he did. He knew what it meant. He broke the heart of an entire city. And don't give me money argument modell. Here's my thing you a multimillionaire. Once we're talking about twenty thirty forty million dollars like you got plenty of money. His family was fine. It's like old rich white men and their money always being on brand. Always just hoarding that. Shit to this day even in a pandemic. I'M GONNA stop. We're not here for that. We're here to be distracted from that. I can't imagine though with the amount of fans that the browns had in Cleveland like. Are you really GonNa make that much more money in Baltimore? Have like these diehard fans here already the. Nfl operates at such a high profit. Like this guy's doing fine. I don't WanNa hear it. So even the players on the browns were completely rattled. This city has some of the greatest fans in sports. So they're very connected to it. They were so rattled that this team that was predicted by many to get to the Super Bowl that year ended up losing every single game for the rest of the season except for one against the bengals. Who's their rival rough? I hope that they did that on purpose. I hope that they did that on. Were the fans because they were like screw this guy fingers. Let me ask you this. The game against the Bengals was it a home game. Yes yes absolutely. They were doing it for the fans and I commend. They're like we're gonNA give you one big win against our big rival. Yeah but other than that. That's going to be the most devastating thing. Yeah so wait when he and made this announcement. How many games into the season do you know halfway halfway through a fucking asshole year? That's like I'm always talking about how Jerry Jones likes to meddle with the cowboys and like literally go and talk to media. How terrible is quarterback was right after the game? Yeah but like there were some meddling sorcery. That'S INSANE BUT CLEVELAND. Being Cleveland did not go down without a fight. A judge granted the city an injunction that led to modell being required to adhere to the terms of a contract. He signed with the city back in one thousand nine hundred seventy three and the terms of that contract stated that the city would retain the name of the browns the team's colors logos and records. Okay what happened was basically Cleveland would get the browns back in nineteen ninety nine as an expansion team and modell would receive a new franchise that would become known as a Baltimore Ravens so we would get like the name of the browns and the colors on the logo and all of that when we get to stay being called though Brown. Yeah and he he would take the entire browns roster for his new franchise. So it's like a small victory for Cleveland but ultimately modell gets the better deal because the truth is being an expansion team is hard like modell got to take the biggest piece of what may the Browns Brown which is the actual team super bowl winning team while no never wanna see almost. How almost Laurie so anyway? When you're an expansion team you're building from scratch. There's no franchise player. You're starting with no solid Olin. That's already in place you know. We get to keep the name in the colors and logos and the records. But we're basically a baby franchise starting at square one and that usually means you're bad for awhile and guess what we were. It's been a while we've only had two winning seasons in two thousand two in two thousand and seven since the expansion one playoff.

"Defensive and Lyle L. Szeto who weighed about two hundred and fifty pounds literally runs and dives on top of the crowd. They Listrik like at a concert while the rest of the browns sneaky and they were like it was electric. He's a hero. Yeah the superstar so they were basically like the rolling stones anyway. The point is browns. Fans are the greatest honors. Yeah and we truly are because we've been tested and proven ourselves to stay loyal. Despite so after the cardiac kids we suffered through in era of great teams in the nineteen eighties. That were cursed with some heartbreaking playoff losses. You could imagine they are named Red Ray. The drive and the fumble. Oh my just real quick recap on. They have names. That's how to remain. I correct they are like not to be forgotten. So Red Right. Eighty-eight is a last minute. Loss raiders in the nineteen eighty-one where we had the opportunity to take the lead with field goal but the coach ought to run a passing same instead intercepted the wall and it was intercepted and the picked it off. Oh that's just stupid. But despite that rough loss to start the decade we continue to be good that whole decade it was like another super fun super talented team. The quarterback Bernie Kosar Wide Receiver Webster Slaughter Tight End Ozzie. Newsome running backs. Kevin mackin earnest. Byner and linebacker Bob Golick. Who was a Cleveland Native before there was Lebron? There was Bob Golick so fans were in so. This team is really good and twice. We need it after that sad loss to Oakland to the AFC championship game for those of you. Who Don't know that's the game right before the Super Bowl. Yeah so mind. You get into the soupy. Can't we won four championships before the Super Bowl was the thing and haven't yet one so in the Nineteen eighty-six AFC championship game the draft Mark Sheriff's basically Denver Broncos quarterback John elway in the final minutes of the game led the team too improbable ninety or drive to be us in overtime? Go Away five minutes and six seconds to complete the drive of the game. This devastating the very next year in one thousand nine hundred seven. We make it all the way back to the AFC championship game. Only this time of winning spiner recover at all star running back earnest. Byner fumbled the ball under one yard. Line right before he was about to score to take the lead with one minute left in the game handing victory byner head first and goal and lost the ball. You miss them in so young when this stuff was going. So did your dad you about this as you were getting older you were Rachel. I'm older than you. I give you credit. I'm saying you were a baby when these were happening. No I was a teenager until now I was young for these two losses. I like remember eating. Seven layer dip in pure utter devastation. I was ten and eleven respectively so I mean it. You know I remember these year. It's scarred you yeah but despite all these scars deep deep scars on our heart we fans we stick by our guys. Okay an example as we're going through these horrifying losses in the eighties. The browns Star cornerback at the time Hanford. Dixon nicknamed the defense. The Dogs are defense was awesome. The dogs is a reference to like him thinking of the defenses dog chasing around the offense which he thought of his cats and they were just like a hardcore defense that just like crushed it and not only did he name the defense the dogs but they put up a sign in the bleacher section called the dog pound and the fans like wholeheartedly adopted it and so now to this day the bleacher section. At Cleveland Stadium is known as the dog pound. These guys took it to heart. They were dog. Noses dog masks bone shape how would like throw bones on the field amazing? Oh my God well I see you see them. Every single broadcast like they're out amazing. They've got like face paint. Yes viggo go hard. So that's my team. And that's my teams fans and now you're team and that brings us to the mid nineties so in the nineteen ninety four season the browns finished with a really good record of eleven and five and one first playoff game in five years under head coach. Bill Belichick a name. You might recognize hall of fame coach and winter. Go Billy yes winner. Multiple Super Bowls widely considered to be one of the all time greats despite some cheating allegations. But that's a different episode greatest cheater. Rachel has no love lost for bill. Belichick I think no. I don't sorry anyway. We were really good looking good. And when we're going into next season in one thousand nine hundred. Five people were like Oh. This team could finally be the woman wins the superbowl so it was an exciting time yet again. Midway through this we're doing all right and then art modell the owner that we talked about earlier the owner of the browns nineteen sixty one people like him. Yeah meets with team. One morning business as usual But that night out of nowhere art modell goes down to Baltimore which is weird and he makes a speech at Camden yards and announces. Something that shook Cleveland and the Browns fans to their core. Wow but we're going to have to go to break..

"The bengals had good seasons. Nope it's the browns and I've never met a fan base. That is so arrogant. CLEVELAND FANS have have been wrong for a decade on everything and yet if you question anything about them they come out with daggers and knives. It's like Cleveland Browns fans to stop talking. Listen to the rest of us because you've been wrong for a decade straight. This is not a solvable situation. With head coach. You got a line issues Baker Maturity Issues Lovie Oh. BJ issues ownership issues. This is not a salt and by the way. Good luck with Lamar. Now who's way better than we. All thought and big bands coming back and that steeler defense is young and get a new quarterback so I think they'RE WINDOW TO BE SPECIAL CLEVELAND. It may have just closed. I very the and to me. You don't go a decade of losing Jews inaugural at this point. It's been a decade of losing without being a cultural issue like this is not about Freddie kitchens players were the players and this particular season. You can argue the talent at all and I don't. I don't put this on Freddie Kitchens because to me you were just talking about the process to me if you are granted an opportunity. You're ready for I. Don't blame the person for taking that opportunity but to me the process is always important. And because you WANNA be ready when that big opportunity comes to you so people who skip skip the process or skip the line. They're only really successful when they have an incredible support system and culture that strong. So maybe they aren't quite ready for that opportunity for the people around that. Elevate them or that. Help them along the okay so then that that sort of smooths over the steps that they've skipped that's not available in Cleveland Right. That's right so to me. This he was set up for failure from the beginning. Annual enable. WHOA you're also in a division with two of the Best Cultures Pittsburgh and Baltimore so it's not that years shaky you know it it's like Arizona the downside of being Arizona cardinals is I gotta Seattle's culture is good the niners cultures good and the rams got a bunch of smart people like it's not just you're not just beating players you have to beat cultures in in this league in in right now? Baltimore and Pittsburgh have two of the strongest winningest cultures. Yes and speaking of Arizona. Kyla Murray hasn't even finished a full. NFL season but cardinals else coach cliff. Kingsbury is impressed with what he is seeing. He praised cuyler grow throughout the season. Instead is leadership skills have improved a lot since he joined the team. You have a bunch of grown millionare's looking at you for direction and leadership and how you carry yourself. I mean that's that's a lot to walk into. And so I just think the level being able to handle that every day in the expectation on him every day you know this franchise goes as he goes whether it's an a meeting or practice or in a game.

"This is why people hire p._r. People to massage you know how would this play massage. Is the message make it. This is a prime example. Listen to the wording by jerry stephen and the cowboys. They've been to this twenty times. This is this is this is the first rodeo the over zeke he's never he never held out before and he's stumbling and he's not doing a good job on this. All the messaging cowboys favor speaking of messaging. I have never seen a team coming off a seven eight and one season the cleveland browns make this much noise but they they they give us a story every day so yesterday. They can't even not re-sign an offensive line coach without making it a big story so bob wiley was that sort of verbose outspoken funny the character offensive line coach freddie kitchens got the job and did not retain him and bob wiley came out and took shots at the rookie head coach freddie kitchens and said he didn't deserve urban. He didn't do squat so freddie kitchens. I don't know why he felt a need to respond some question. Whether he's ready for a big job i would not have gone here but freddie kitchens. It's fired back at bob wiley. Listen bob wasn't under contract. He forgot to tell everybody that he wasn't under contract. He talked about retiring starring forever so <hes> sometimes when a person says something to be made to feel relevant. Okay bob knows what what happened. Bob knows what was going on and when he was here he knew everything about it. Bob doesn't wear a brown and orange anymore. I had the opportunity to hire bob. I didn't want to not sure why you hell to tell us the back story. I don't think anybody cares. He's an offensive line coach coach but folks. This is very predictable. This is very predictable cleveland's new money and they don't know what to do with it thereby jetskis. He's they're buying sports cars. They're buying second and third houses. They don't know how to act how would they. They have never been here before. Super bowl talk cleveland. Cleveland is generational wealth. The grandpa was wealthy. The parents are wealthy. The kids are wealthy. They've been here before. They were noisy last year. They got it out of the building. There's too much noise here because when you've never had money and power you become fake rich guy and fake tough guy loud guy because you don't know how to act cleveland. I know how to act how would they. They've never been here. They've won the division since the eighties. Maybe nineteen eighty-nine but it's still the eighties. The steelers know how to act. They got noisy got him out of the building. P carols team got noisy. He got him out of the building. This is new england gets noisy. They get him out of the building. That's because pete carroll and bill belichick and mike tomlin have been here before. They've been two super bowls. This is new money and old wealth. That's what this battle is. The pittsburgh steelers have had the quietest steeler camp in years. There's and the cleveland browns have had the noisiest camp in the entire league. I don't remember a camp this noisy and again when you never had money money and get it when you never had power and you get it. You become kind of fake tough. Guy carolina was this for a year. Jacksonville was this two years ago. Carolina and jacksonville jacksonville cincinnati for years ago hosted a playoff game and everybody's like carolina jacksonville cincinnati and they followed it up by embarrassing themselves the following year because the minute they got into crisis. They're just fake tough guy. Carolina was faked. Tough-guy jacksonville was fake tough guy..

"And they're not bad locker room guys necessarily right may have had some off the field issues that we're going to have to try to deal with and we're going to put the structures in place, but as. Far as the makeup of that locker room. He's not going to bring a third sandwich. Right. And from all accounts, Kurt Kareem is not a turt- Sam, I and they know each other right person think about like, you know, that have done, you know, dump stuff or bad stuff. Like, we all have every one of us has family members like that. Or they have done something or like been involved in something. And even though whatever that thing is is horrible or bad or disappointing. They're still your family. They're still your friend. Right. And it's weird to like make that disconnect between the act in the person for the people that are actually a part of that relationship. They're like, oh, this is still my cousin. That's still my friend. That's still my whatever I felt like when they this happened. That's like went to my mind with with doors with Dorsey. They had that connection that it was on right, wrong or indifferent connection. He was like, well shoot. This is I still pick this guy. Because of this reason we have relationship. I think he's a good kid. I think you know, like that relationship was really important as to why he felt comfortable signing Korean exactly is like, I know the person and I knew him well before all this happened yet. And he felt I think maybe that necessarily this was a horrible decision. But it wasn't indicative of who he is as a person. Right. Maybe that would be the distinction. He's trying to make it as mind as I step into the wonderful old man, white new balance sneakers of John or and the stained white sweatshirt that he wears everyday tell me this. What was your initial thoughts? What you see in Kareem hunt was signed like just around the conversation. Because obviously, they knew there was going to be backlash in making that signing. Like, there's a lot of people who didn't love it Browns fans who just care about the football product, which is a large majority those fans, they just wanna see wins and losses, and they don't care how the sausage is made. Exactly. But everywhere else the conversation was. Should this signing of happened? We knew it was going to happen. We knew some team is going to take the chance. But it's always different when it's your team. So what were your thoughts when the Cleveland Browns made the announcement that they were signing Kareem hunt? I'm not sure if if I dove into it from a fan perspective much in my brain. I don't know why. I was just like, oh, Well, I I guess my first reaction was oh, wow. I'm surprised. And then as soon as I started putting the pieces together, my head of Mike, all that makes total sense. Your c- drafted him in Kansas City Dorsey has been willing to take chances on guys with off the field problems all Calloway when he drafted him. Yep. And so then I'm like, it makes sense. Somebody who's going to take a flyer on him. They were gonna just make sure enough time has passed right? And then sign him in a quiet news cycle period. So that they don't have maximum backlash. And then they hope that after the Commissioner suspended him, and he's able to go through the treatment process that the NFL's going to surely lay out for him to be able to get back into the league. I think the hope is that everybody is able to put that behind him. And he's able to prove that he's a better new. Person going forward a game suspension. Does that that's all we kinda NFL network? We were talking about Kareem hunt. Right. How does he impact the Odell Beckham situation? How is he going to influence the team and everyone was kind of thinking? Yeah..

What do we have? With Baker Mayfield junior the third after his performance yesterday. Dan, you're going to like Baker is back a little Baker after the guard. Here you go when I woke up this morning. I was feeling pretty dangerous. Dangerous. He was great and that game along with Nick chub, you know, the defense forces turnovers there, they have something there. They do you just want to be promising. You wanna have progress as opposed to like the jets? The jets yesterday. I'm looking at the numbers here. Okay. In two thousand eighteen forty two quarterbacks have started at least one NFL game. Among those forty two quarterbacks. Buffalo quarterback's ranked fortieth forty first and forty second the worst. So Josh Allen, Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman, those were the bottom three quarterback performances this year and then..
