Today in History: January 24
"Time now for today in history, January 24. Two dozen. Here's time. This is kind of interesting. In 19 22, Columbus sailed the ocean blue over a hundred years ago. A guy from Iowa named Christian K Nelson invented something. Anybody remember what mister Nelson invented? The paper clip. No. The accu Jack. Nope. He invented the Eskimo pie. Oh. I don't think that should count. Food being invented shouldn't count. No, he created. No, the Eskimo pie. This is chocolate sauce frozen on ice cream. What year was that? 1922. Right? So I think Asia is taking exception with it. Don't eskimos get all mad now when you see this. So I Googled this and I found out that the Eskimo pies name has been canceled. The famous chocolate covered ice cream bar is getting a new name. It is now known as the edes pie. Edy apostrophe has edes pie. You know, one of the most successful teams in the CFL, Canadian football league, used to be the Edmonton eskimos. What do they know? They're now the elks. Edmonton elks, that's pretty cool. Edmonton elks. Okay. So yeah, that name is apparently not especially well liked and you have a tribute pad? Sure, sure. Bye bye to the Eskimo pie. I hear the names and sensitive, but I'm not sure why. They took away my ice cream back in July. Klondike klondike bar I'll give you a try. To pronounce it properly next time.

"It's indoor. Luckily me, I played an almost every level football arena, 1111 outdoor and then CFO, which is 12 and 12. So, the one thing they all have in common for one is the object is to score touchdowns and, you know, have more testosterone than your opponent. There's some small differences in each of the league, you know, arenas, you don't need regular football, the traditional we all know is loving and loving. And then CFL's 12 one 12. So the reason why that is because the amount of players on each level is hard to feel shrink. So you don't need an arena. The field is very small. 11 or 11 traditional football, you know, it's the size we're used to and in 12 and 12 in the CFL is because the field is much bigger. Each leak has its own, you know, unique rules, like the irina league. You know, you have the one high motion that a lot of people are not used to, and they also have some rules restrictions where, you know, players can only go left and right, rather than going up and down the field. CFL is only three downs where we're used to four downs in arena in traditional football league. Those are some small things that are different. You know at the end of the day, it's all about making pleas and just outscoring your opponent. So that's the one thing that, you know, I was able to do, you know, make plays and help outscore my opponent weather. I was in CFL. NFL order arena league out there to do that. You know, help my team, whatever team I was on, you know, being a winning position. I love how you are able to talk about being able to adapt to all these different rules and regulations and having a smaller field versus a bigger field. So that goes to speak volumes in itself at how great of an athlete you are..

XFL Planning 2023 Return After Talks on Partnership With CFL Tabled
"2023 is the new What year? Are we in now? I know time to get off track for a while, right? It's 2021 now, So they say it'll be spring 2023. That's when the rock is dropping the people's elbow on the the XFL. After collaboration, conversations with the CFL fell apart. Oh, no lady in Canadian football. I don't know what the plan was, but they were. They were in talks. The CFL, which begins their season in August. I think they play in the play summertime simultaneously. There's a summertime I mean, they start earlier, but it's it's in the fall when real football happened. The XFL was a spring league. They were talking with the CFL about what could they do together? CFL got that giant field, right? Don't they have a bigger if you got a big field, big, wide field deep end zones wide and deep, they say it'll it'll now be 2023 for the Twice failed XFL that only two

She's working on on the pottery wheel because she's so distracted by the toyota. She wants a toyota so bad later and they they basically sort of zoom in on her and show a massive splatter this splash of this sort of creamy colored liquid soul over her. I'm thinking at what stage to somebody from the crt -sego that's not appropriate for for national television. Why is it not appropriate. Yes i don't think we need to get into that james where you're coming from. I got i got. It's the same guy where they have the guy steve. Okay okay. according to what how you're doing okay. Let's take a time out of the program back at final thoughts before things get graphic after these words. Did you know that jim. I know it's Leafs last cup is the name of the twitter account and all all they ever post on that account is a day later in terms of unflattering leaf stats nineteen thousand seven hundred fifty four days since they won the cup zero days since blowing a three one series lead sixty two hundred days since winning a playoff series four hundred sixty four days since losing to an american hockey league's zamboni driver and thirty three days until setting the record for the longest stanley cup drought in. Close your into the right sort of family. It's to elks fighting. Steve locking horns locking antlers. It's their mating call. Is the mating call. If i if i if i interpreted that for you. Cav like an elk is in the plural senses is elk or if it's elks with an s. on the end the edmonton football club seems to have chosen. Yeah we're gonna fire s on that. They've decided that the they're gonna. They dumped the eskimos name. We knew that and now they're willing to be as they announced today the edmonton elks. Do dwells make any like vocal noises. "I recently made an episode that talked about some of the issues related to any sort of alliance between the cfl and xfl. I was surprised by both the volume and quality of feedback. I'm very grateful for that. And even more inspired by the passionate people have canadian football. I share that passion. Not only am i fan on a longtime subscriber so to was my white and a longtime volunteer for the former toronto argonauts. That was a passionate group playing for crowds during good times and the not so good attending. A cfl game is inexperienced. Like no of and once you've been to one. You'll likely want more very quickly. The football bug sets in. When i can't attend in person i love watching the games on tv yet. It's on tv that too many times. The weak spots are augmented. Everything on tv seems to become bigger than in reality gore. Cf l. game weak spots are empty seats whether it's wrong or tire. Sections of empty seats. The gaps are augmented whether lower turnout was a one time thing or an ongoing conditioning. Given martin the glaring exception of course to all of this is the empty seats. Send a message. We someone is not recognizing the modern game for what it is entertainment. That's something we still need to get a handle on for the nfl. When games are televised we need to treat those fans as a studio audience. More than a bunch of fans in a stadium. Never allow even one empty unless for social distancing purposes to be shown on tv. Do whatever it takes to move people and fill the gaps gaps become a painfully obvious on tv at the end of the day. It doesn't matter whether those seats are paper or not. It shows that there was an excitement. And a fan fever in the stands. It nudges that person watching at home to say. Wow i really should have been this. Responsibility can't just rest on the management of one team or one stadium as a production issue. There needs to be a stronger connection between broadcaster and lead to visually package and present the product in a way that goes beyond the traditional and very excellent by the way commenting graphics and onscreen entertainment production. Today's world presentation needs to start considering the stadium fans as a studio audience. In a more cohesive way most agree that the product on cfl field is a tremendous value but the product that someone sees on tv contains gaps no matter how good the game televised rose or sections of empty seats. Do nothing to inspire excitement or ticket. Buying action through the cameras could do more to simply not show the throngs of empty seats and there has been more than one senior person in a team's front office that is recognized the optical value in helping stack the seats with energetic fans. But i think some creativity and ingenuity might be required. Here perhaps some reconceptualise ation because more than that is needed. Alibis games. today are football shows with live audiences. I wonder what things would look like. Well disney.

"Right i wanna w you don't want to dilute the hall of fame about the hall of you know dedication or kind of good very right so you don't wanna take anything away from the guys who are in the hall of fame But all the hall of famer stevie would you know most of those guys if you ask them right they they'd be all about putting this guy in to you know if if i had to take the pro at have no no problem it because what are we talking about here. When you're a hockey fan of an nhl fan chances are you played the game a kid and you dreamed about it and you watched on saturday night with wide eyes and you dreamed of oh love to play in the nhl one day and and for all of us almost all of us it never happened and we never got there and so to play in the nhl. A single game is so special into an end to repeat that more times than any other man has that that that definitely gets you at least a consideration for the hall of fame in my opinion right. What what. I think gets into the hall of fame. Steve is the reaction that everyone had to it. Okay right the fact that this thing blew up. It was the number one story when it when it kind of crept up people right. We said no. You know everyone is like. Oh my god what that guy just busted the all-time games thing over gordon. Not all time. But yet the the fact they did you know profile it. They've they've they recognize it and on across the league right across the league. All the players are what phenomenal phenomenal accomplishment. By that alone either guys should be in the hall of fame otherwise why recognize it. Why go and by the way. This was an by the way by the way mardell. Seven seventeen jillian games in right now right now it was. It was a huge so yeah it is a huge deal for sure. And his old buddy one of his best friends in the nhl Is joe thornton kind of interesting. That marlo left thornton. They rode shotgun together for years. They were the number. One and two overall selections nineteen ninety seven and then finally thornton goes and plays for the toronto sorry first marlow left and went to the toronto maple leafs and thornton's back in san jose and now marlon has gone back to san jose and thornton signed in toronto with them kind of taking a shot at things so they've been tied at the hip for a long time and so even in his short time with the toronto maple leafs. He was exactly the veteran player that every team look for every young team like if the says were putting together all these lists of veterans to mentor their young players. Guy like marlowe would have been fantastic compared to maybe some of the guys they actually did choose but Yeah he he had a real impact on guys like mitch monitor and austin matthews and their two seasons together. There was all kinds of social media. Photos were matthews and monir. Were playing with marlo kids and going over to dinner and stuff and so they delivered matthews and monir did a nice message by way of video to their friend and then along came a silent cameo for marlo longtime sharks teammate. Joe thornton matthews in monterey in the foreground saying all the standard congratulations and in the background is a completely buck naked. Joe thornton do think he knew he was doing that threaten. Oh yeah and i think they they. It was team sanctioned to so they they the pixelated everything all his naughty.

"The the bigger the thing grows but it just makes no sense to me with the most popular players further in that article stevia. I think it's brooks koepka. Who says okay. Well i'll tell you what tiger woods is going to win that every year no matter what no matter what you know. He went on to say that he changed the game. He's the guy who brought the big bucks for us There's no doubt in anyone's mind that the whole the whole mash of the game change when tiger came along the everything so brooks goes while i can give you the first winner there. It's him all day long. And thank god because tagger could use an extra eight million right so i it just. It makes no sense to me other than if they did it with the lesser known players. You know oh. I gotta say i. I'm i'm a total polar opposite. I think it makes perfect sense. And i think it's really innovative to reward the guys who drive the tour I think 'cause you're not just dealing with the number one guy because that was another is read on in the story that One anonymous player with multiple wins on the tour was completely sold on the idea. Most players feel it's a shoe in money. Grab for only those at the top and it's extremely hard to break into that category. If you're not already in it. Like yeah and i feel like there's no issue with that new the guys who are driving eyeballs on tv screens bringing galleries to the course bringing sponsorships people are doing that. People are engaging with the pga tour because of the stars. And i don't have any issue with the stars being the ones who get a little something something from the pga tour on performance way. I think it's i think it's innovative and And it encourages it. encourages excellence. Because you're not gonna be famous unless you're a good golfer. Also encourage these guys to get their face out there to get engaged with social media to sell the pga. So i think super smart. Yeah well i guess. I have to agree with some of that There was a time. I've talked about this a long time ago. You know long before. Arnold palmer died because the They were doing a special sixty minutes profile. Arnold palmer years ago when tiger was at his peak when he just came on right and he was huge and they were talking about the effect. That tiger woods has on a city when he shows up to play in the gulf term right. What shows the canadian open for example. you know they're they're they're constantly battling. The canadian has for years and years trying to get players to commit It's a nightmare. Guess steve To sit around and wait and you know saying well when when when can we find out if tiger is gonna come to our tournament and so the pga put some some guidelines in that you had to meet so you've got to commit something like two weeks before at least right up to then. The you know the players go. I might go. I might not you know like well. We're trying to sell tickets here right. And anyway the they went on to say this was years ago. Steve you and i were doing the show we had we had Kevin albright on who was with img agents sports agent and he came onto explain to us that at that time it was something like thirty million dollars gets injected into the economy in toronto..

"Google searches their nielsen brand exposure rating their q rating which measured the appeal in familiarity of a player's brand their mvp index rating which is based on social media and their meltwater mentions or the frequency with which a player generates coverage across a range of media platforms right. So it's like this is groundbreaking if true if it goes down. But they have apparently reported this forty million dollar or they've created this forty million dollar bonus pool and i think it's pretty amazing. It's it's it's crazy man. yeah like they're nielsen rating. I'm just reading it as well. Brand exposure which places a value on the exposure player delivers to sponsors through the minutes there featured on the broadcasts right i. it just doesn't make sense to build your to build your sport okay You know they interviewed some guys after right and they said well. Here's how we're going to see that. Okay so the more popular you are away from the game. Okay on social media if you do if you do interviews i guess whatever that meltwater thing is Generates generous coverage across a range of media platform. I mean how do they going to keep track of it and it just. It's just an unnecessary thing steve. It's just totally unnecessary. Unless all of that okay. Unless you took all those guidelines those parameters to to debbie up this forty million was for the guys who are the the last fifty in the top one twenty five you know so you got these guys who are struggling every year to meet to try and maintain and retain their card. Okay so position. Seventy five to one twenty five if you go to those guys and got an idea here. Okay we've got forty million we're gonna throw in the pool and the more exposure you give our sport in the pga tour. You're gonna you you can potentially grab four five million. If you're the best at that that would make sense right. That would be well. There's a good idea right. There's a really good idea to get because you know you're naive if you think. Social media obviously isn't the way to go right this. This is a huge indication that they're looking at this thing. Going the best exposure we can get i. Sport is through social media through. You know stevie how the over the over the last several months right. You'll you will see. I think guys like max home. Other some other guy there who d- who tweets and all these guys just blow up with followers on their on their twitter you know or their instagram and so i guess the. Pj's looking at that going. I guess we should try and get everyone to do that. You know You know as a podcast her you know the more the more hits you get the more followers you're going to get.

"Many listeners of this podcast. now i'm a fan of the xfl. i'm also a fan of the cfo. That's why i was a little more than interested. When i learned of the news of official talks between the two leagues to explore partnership possibilities while early in the process. It's fun to consider what might evolve in twenty twenty two. I think most will agree that nothing less than something. Bold will suffice. The cfl went begging cap in hand to various departments of the federal government last year. All to no avail. Let's hope they're not doing the same with the xfl namely seeing it as a source of no strings attached revenue. Let's talk about a complete merger a north and south division the xfl and see xfl the north american extreme football league. Who knows if this works. There's far more potential. The cfl needs something bold some way to grow. The league must've will to survive simple as that. I recall a commentary a few years ago by the late and very great chris shoals former. Nfl nc afl offensive linemen while sitting as a panelist at the desk of canada's tsn sports network he emphatically pointed out while the nfl. And it's more or less nine teams may have worked more or less in the past the league needs to grow. It needs more teams. That people want to watch if survival is part of the business plan and that will mean some change. Opinions are already tilting toward moving the game to four downs. Is that such a bad thing. This issue exemplifies the question what is critical to retain should the cfl merged with an american league. If you were sitting at the table. What is your deal breaker. You only get one so which one the size of the field the rouge the number of players on each line all of these things are up for discussion for me. To put it simply. The cfl offers football fans opportunity to watch the game from june through late autumn. The season has been adjusted several times over the past century or so but if nothing else when negotiating the summer aspect of the cfl something i would be pressing for. The xfl positioned itself has not competing with the nfl. Not getting in the way. Starting mid february and running to mid spring. I would suggest that a combined league start in early to mid march winding up the season with a championship game possibly late september to early october minimal. Overlap with the nfl retaining the spring aspect of the xfl aspect of the march. Should be as doable in terms of field action and canadian cities as is a late november game. I think the reality is looking at an american sized field for downs. One fewer player on inside but some unique aspects of the game could easily fuel their way into an american xfl viewer market the rouge for example plus a host of new innovations. That happened yet. Been tried by either creating something new and bigger than each. It's not the first time that an american base league has had canadian host cities. The continental league had three canadian teams. The world league of american football team based in montreal and not only touches on the game of professional football. Of course the cfl has its experience and expanding into us markets many commentators in canada's snide label the early nineties expansion of the nfl into the usa as a failure couldn't be further from the truth. The legacy is a generation of talent many of which have become legendary and iconic for canadians and fans of canadian football. The only failure would have been not trying. The point is at two organizations. recognize the need to grow. As in any marriage there will be compromises. There has to be the current discussions offer an opportunity for fans players and personnel alike to prioritize what they deemed critical to evolving and what is essential to make the process worthwhile like it or not. This may be the best opportunity for the cfl in a generation. Make no mistake. These talks between the two leagues offer. Hope of survival for the nfl. Even.

"Merger. They are talking at least about some kind of partnership kind of interesting. Welcome to the show at stephen jimmy back again. Schmoozing up dolan out the extra large portions of ottawa. Sports talk sports in whatever. Of course the whatever in this case on this day anyway march eleventh one year ago today the world began down the very bumpy road of co vid crazy to think it's been a year james. How're things today. Well stevie. I'm yeah. I'm good everything's find i. It's interesting you bring that up because there's been different days you know but but this is the certainly a year when it all came down and and everyone sort of went wide seeing. What's happening here. Right. really is hit us to write Outside of china. And then italy of course and then i read today one of the headlines is i think it's the texas rangers are going to allow full capacity. I think by the end of march for a couple of exhibition games. An yeah the final two exhibition games on march twenty ninth and the thirtieth and the regular season opener against the jays on april fifth I think on against the jays. It'll be a guess The scaleback attendance and you socially distant sections for the following the home opener which is odd. But that's what they're planning to do wide open. One hundred percent capacity global field as the texas rangers opened up their season and they do have to wear masks so they do that. the announcement came after texas governor said. Last week he's going to lift. The statewide mask mandate and permit businesses to operate at full capacity. But at least for the baseball games they want since everybody's tight that everybody will wear a mask whilst watching the game kind of funny that that comes out on the one year anniversary this thing. Do they know something. We don't steve early. it's over. They have they all been vaccinated because that would certainly be. The announcement argument would expect if they go. Kay we got this thing done. We rolled out all the vaccines and we got everyone covered so off. we go. it's it. It doesn't seem right to me. But i particularly want their own action kind of like. Why is there some hook here. I don't know did they. They have the whole thing sprayed an an anti virus thing or something god by their own admission in their own actions. It's clearly not over because whether going back to why you have a full capacity for your home opener and the two exhibition games preceding but then after that they kind of dow things back a little which is are are you are you in are you. Are you in on this. Covert is no big deal thing or aren't you because it seems like you're sending out mixed messages your fan base totally totally and i can't believe it's allowed that you know the health department or the state health department is gonna no no wait. Will what what what what are you doing here. Yes slow down scooter. But what do i know. Yeah it's it's weird. It's very weird but on the cove front just a conclude the conversation about it it's I mean it's not like we need to get all nostalgic. I think that's going ebb. This mistake people make all day long. Various radio stations or whatever spending a ton of time on it. It's the one year ago and then you know talking about everything they've been through and say well that's kind of the memories you dig up when something is over and maybe You know five years. Now it's only been a year and by the way we're still living in it so i don't necessarily need wax on eloquently about This or that and all the things that have happened in the past year. Which i think some people will do because i think you know people are still in a mode of being fed up with it so like i said spent a lot of time on it but it is worth noting that It's the one year mark. Well i i. I hope it's good. The utopian result will be pulled the game off and a week later. We haven't heard of a incident of coping. But i expect Yeah we there's a little spread of the virus on coincidentally on on the day we had the big exhibition game where we allowed. Everyone really really anyway. Yeah let's let's change gears a bit though and We should get into the ottawa senators and their game in edmonton. That was played on march the tenth. And let's start with the highlights for the sends a key. Here's how well trained. The crickets are like right on. Cue elite comedic timing sense fall seven one to the edmonton oilers who now have a six and a mark against the sends. Probably wildest data. I've heard is that leon draisaitl has now fifteen points. This season against the sends seventeen is the record He's got a chance to break the record on friday most points against one team in one season. That tells you pretty much all you need to know. Dry silently heard the hatrick gold coming out of the entry and It was a miserable night for the sends they leave matt maria out there to twist in the wind for all seven goals. They weren't all his fault they never are but he's just you know it's it's pretty clear. And i was reading an article by a pittsburgh reporter. The day that matt murray signed on with the ottawa senators or at least the day that the penguins turned the page on him decided to go with tristen. Jerry i mean. They're references in there too. It was the easiest decision they ever made to turn the page on matt. Murray the way he was playing the two cops but he was never the same after that anyway. Not only was that bad news but they also might have lost colin white and ryan single for a substantial amount of time. They both had to be helped off. The ice call in white was rushing for checking and see the slip and went into the end boards. Skate blades i. I don't know if he mocked up ankle or a knee but that did not look good at all. Look like maybe even an ice issue didn't look like there was any reason for him to be falling but he did and then ryan zingel kind of the same part of the ice behind the edmonton oilers net being harassed by harvey and just gets all twisted up against the end boards and looked like he had a knee injury as well so both had to be helped off the ice. Don't count on seeing them anytime soon in too bad because both of those guys were scoring goals and that's been one of the struggles for this team this year so Yeah little update on the sends they fall seven one to edmonton the finale of this latest disastrous series against the oilers coming up on friday night. All right let's take a time out on the program when we come back to. You are going to talk about the possibility maybe the the cfl and the xfl could merge. We'll get to that story coming up. He's resting up but i don't think he's going to make his comeback. That's anyway you know what i mean. So greatest. Tom brady hands down. Greatest quarterback greatest quarterback of Beats beats beats peyton. Manning beats brett farve. Beats out all those other guys who were around when he started a crate. Seven championships. that's outrageous. But yeah ten super bowl appearances. It's absolutely crazy. But it's you know whatever discussion you have if you start going outside of football and i agree with what he said about football but if you if you go outside of football then you could make an argument no matter how you spin this whether it's the greatest player of all time whether it's the winningest are the best winner of all time. they're great arguments to be made like an. I've got a list of from a winning standpoint. Tom brady's not even close really bill russell eleven nba titles in thirteen years. Then you have on rashard of the montreal. Canadians eleven stanley cups in his career. Michael phelps twenty eight olympic gold medals or at twenty three golds medals right Just go in go on and on a yogi. Berra had ten world series rings as a player and three more as a coach. Joe dimaggio nine world series and won marilyn monroe so it just goes on and on i winning but So yeah if you stay inside each sport. I think it's a it's a conversation tom. Brady's in a good discussion. He's part of a debate. But you know. I just every every sport is so different and unique that it's it's goofy to start going outside of them like like where's where's dion sanders and bo jackson. Those those are two guys who were elite at more than one pro sports but they weren't exactly buried in titles i know dion. Sanders won a championship at least one but in win a ton but just that that sheer raw lettuce isn't that allows you to ascend to the top of your sport into sports. How can you not even have a discussion about them as well right. It's kind of like it gets a again again. I think it's it's not fair to other players to to name a quarterback degrades football player. Just as just as a goalie stevie grant fuhr go back to the oilers grant fear. You never hear a saying. He's one of the greatest hockey players of all time. They don't do it. Don't do goalie going one more business. One know whatever more.

Is Tom Brady now the greatest team sport athlete ever?
"Who is the greatest athlete of all time to debate. That i saw again and again on social media today after tom brady won another super bowl. Mvp super bowl ring. He does again at the age of forty three and this might be as most impressive super bowl victory yet. And i don't even know how you have. That discussion in the big picture to be honest is like where. What are you basing it on is the number of championships is it. The number of mvp's is it. How levick you are It could be you know you can dismiss some guys because they're part of a team sport versus individual where it's one hundred percent of that person that drives a success like that's probably a i mean. It's an apples and oranges thing as well different sports. I don't even know how ya how you could ever come up with that. certainly james. Tom brady is very much in that discussion. Now here's the. Here's the issue. Stevie with tom brady being you know the certainly certainly the greatest quarterback of all time okay. Let's go with that all right. Let's go hands down greatest guy to play that position seven championships multiple. Mvp's multiple wins games. All that stuff. So i think he's the greatest quarterback but but if you if you were on that same team with tom say prior to the tampa and you're on the six superbowls and you know another player on that team another quarterback of course but so so. Where does that leave you. You know if you're if you're a middle linebacker going or gronkowski on. Hey i want six. There is that what is that. What the qualifiers. To be the greatest of all times. I was there. I wouldn't six so the the football kind of funny for me to pick to pick a player that has a completely different position in hockey. For example everyone you know you got a bunch of forwards bunch of skaters know and they award them bill norris trophy for defense and all that stuff and so hockey. I think you can figure out who. Who's greatest of all time because you're comparing apples to apples there. So that that's a bit of an issue for me to single dot saying you're the greatest of all time again again because there'd be other guys who played on that team who won super bowl championships you know it's just an interesting position to because everything goes to the quarterback it's such a unique position your guiding the ship. You're the leader of the team on and off the field. It's such a unique position that in team sports is not really another comparison in my opinion the other sport that i could compare that to where where i think. You're singling out a position player. So i don't think you can call them the greatest football player of all time. It's quarterback baseball right. You can get an you. Get an ace pitcher. Okay on a on team of course and if you said okay well he's he's the greatest baseball player of all time. And you're going to wait. Wait a minute wait a minute. I'm i'm sammy sosa over here. Okay right what do you mean. I'm where i'm pete rose there. I'm i guess pizza name wouldn't be in there anymore. You know what i mean. So bad is gonna wait. Wait a minute here. Fifty dinger's here for eight of my twelve seasons

Oh fantastic woody goody pilsen goody goody did that back in the day to you always called them woody and no one knew why but it became a thing a taco sentences and catch up with gordon and and Yeah i i mean gordy was one of the first people. We knew that That was diagnosed with and he's doing fine and getting ready for a new. Nhl season is talking to them today. And he's instead of going down to the at rink and you know getting in the scrums with mike and stuff and getting all the interviews is job house to record these zoom calls as the sends make various players and coaches available is job is to hit on record and kind of keep an eye on things that way to two different world for the media right now. I'm looking forward to that. Fantastic and the nhl selling off. Its division names. We already have to get used to a new setup as far as new names because we had to realign the nhl to realign the league us we for example if a new north division with all seven canadian teams in it. It's not going to be called. Just the north. It's going to be called the scotiabank north. They have sold off the names. They've rotten A few extra shackles by selling off the names the west division will be the honda west. You've got the discover central division. And let me see here. I can't quite read. It's a lot of letters there. Oh yeah the mass mutual east division. What is that. I don't know what that company is. Matt went mutual financial. Sounds like yeah or insurance one of the two. Oh so it's interesting stevie. Okay that the the nhl is starting to prostitute itself. Okay okay settings. What's what's really funny. Where they get caught with their pants down right is everyone talks about. I hope the nhl never goes to the way. It is in europe where there's advertise all over every jersey and the helmets and the and the sticks and it's all over the joint right there look like a nascar you know a guy who steps on the ice european player and the nfl. The nhl has always been holding back saying. We don't wanna do that. You know we don't wanna put the fans through that all that stuff and so now it's like. Hey wait a minute. so now we're going to. We're going to sell anything. Which which that that is bound to come. Stevie bound to come here helmet stickers to right. So that's the second right right so they're gonna start to sell everything. Give it given the given the loss of revenue here to right and the nhl be okay. But it's kind of like okay i. We should've never said that we wouldn't sponsor anything that someone wants to buy. But let's do it slowly here. Let's sell the divisions offer this thing. Yeah well the horse's head out of the barn to with in both cases people think it all they just doing it for this one time or during cove and then it'll go back to normal if the sky doesn't fall and they can line their pockets with these advertisements whether it's the helmet stickers with the name of the division you can damn well bet they're gonna keep rolling with it and not only that keep adding new stuff and see how far they can push the envelope on it. You don't wanna change.

"You not only had danny heated. Look forward to if you're a sense fan brought in by muckler but you also had dominik hasek at the same time. Hasha can heatley That had everybody energized and That season didn't go very well because of the injury like you talked about with harshek the following season however they went to the stanley cup final and they loss of course to anaheim that year. But i can't remember general manager taking his team to the stanley cup. Final as muckler did as as a manager and then get fired within a few weeks of that performance. It was it was. I would love to know about the intrigue of that as well. Because there was almost a power struggle with roy moore lacquer the president of the club and the gm and john mcclure who are longtime fans longtime strengths. And roy malacca big listen to the show by the way There was almost a power struggle there with that. Duo and cyril leader and brian murray. Because murray was a coach muckler brought him in and then not that long after murray took over for him as the general manager of the club. Leader took over for malacca as the president. So there i don. I don't know the story line behind all of it. But it was like a big old soap opera and it would have been cool to be a fly on the wall during those days. Gotta get malacca on salvin idea. Maybe maybe willing to tell some tales. Tell some tales. Yeah you know the one thing. I do remember about john. Lewis came to hockey. And you always asked me about these hockey guys. Steve i anything i know about has nothing to do with hockey waiting for you to tell all the life stories. I'd sort of fill in the hockey blanks after. But one thing i do. I do remember this distinctly. I remember this distinctively. I remember this when we were doing the morning. Show and i loved it. I loved macos response. You know one of the biggest frustrations for coaches and players and general managers and presidents of club and owners is how to handle the fans right how how to how to respond to the fans when they get on something okay wins losses trades or whatever right and it's a really. It's a really tough situation right. Steve because you know the the fans who are calling for someone to be traded and the guy. They don't know what they're talking about. And it's a stupid trade and you know they they always get. I listen to talk shows after right in the goggle they gotta get rid of that guy. They got to get rid of them they go. Why did you what he did tonight. You know and then the whole straight. They'll say okay. Well who should we get for him and shuts it down right shuts the fan down. So it's kinda like okay. Shut up you don't know what you're talking about right and so it's a real frustration..

He passed away yesterday at the age of eighty six. All just floated out. You kind of volley your way james. Because i know you like the guy a lot but maybe Share with us. Your thoughts on john muckler. You know there's one thing right away that sticks out Great guy okay. Great great guy. Humble guy funny There there's so. I knew john. I was kicking around. Of course the locker room all the time and When i started hanging out with the fellas. When i became the number one male groupie when i became friends always you kind of get the hairy eyeball once in a while. When you're you know on the game's over and and you know i was. I'd go down to the room. Because i was driving guys you know. I drove as to drive mess to the rank all the time. Okay all the time. And i drive gretz to the rank and and often and so it would be. Let's go down. Go downstairs after the game and and whatever you know hang out till the shower and stuff and then off we go you know and so i was. I was a mainstay. They're ubiquitous fans down inside the room. But you know there was always people looking at you sideways going. You know they're they are. You can see. You can tell what they were saying. What's he doing here. Who's that guy what's going on now. There is again there. He is again sort of deal. Right and You know the pr guy was was always used to give me a hard time. He tweeted out a boomer. Knows that throwing a ball blindly down the middle. That doesn't work in the cfl either. He knows that right. Like i do. He loses some respect in some people's eyes but At the end of the day. I fully believe that if you're to pull most nfl fans. I bet that not many of them. It's it's it's haunting It's it's happy full of memories. it's also very disdainful for the way things sort of happened at it. Certainly very hopeful. Of course the ravens franchise now for better or for worse carries on that legacy of the colts franchise inelegant as that history had wound up becoming but Moving forward from it and all that. So here's our conversation. Come up with troy and just a moment or two and it's it's a great one and if you're a colts fan or you remember the old. Afl remember the afc battles of the colts You'll enjoy the conversation immensely a few promotional things to get out of the way this weekend. The the arrival of the cfl brand of football in baltimore was the impetus to finally Once again get an nfl franchise not the expansion version but a relocation version and one commemorate that and how about a truly lost to history Version of the baltimore football legacy the baltimore bombers remember them probably don't but they were The team that was proposed by the Various ownership folks and and team officials and city officials at in the early nineties when the nfl was looking to award Expansion franchise nineteen ninety-three to be exact. The baltimore bombers were the name and logo and all that stuff the glazer family one to actually by the tampa bay buccaneers Were part of that effort. Learning How to Lead with Ryan Hawk
"Ryan hawk on dose of leadership man. I'm excited that you're here. Welcome the show my friend. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me rich You know we've been connected the lincoln and obviously had known about your show for a long time so similar past but always wanted to have you on this show talked. Nfl leadership junkie so man. I'm glad you're here. Like i said thanks for having me it I was read about. Your story is pretty wild especially with everything. Going on as a pilot and september eleventh man. I was I was like wow. This is going to be interesting. Yeah no it's it's it's been a journey but it so i'm curious i i would bet that are past. They're similar in the sense. That if i understand correctly football was kind your dream as you were growing up and then going through college and then you played somewhat professionally as well right and then. How did that in. I don't quite know the story how that ended. Why did the football come to an end. Eventually they tell you you're not gonna Like most guys they re. The sport retires you tire from. And so i played after college. I played for a few years in the arena. Football league briefly went up to canada. And cfl you know handful of workouts in the nfl and then they they say Yeah you're you're you're okay. But not good enough to To make it to the upper echelon of the sport and the nfl where you can actually earn a living and the really gripe played. It's essentially like playing minor league baseball right. You do you do it for the opportunity to keep playing into potentially catch. Someone's eye so that you could maybe have the story like kurt warner right. Kerr played in the arena. League gets gets a workout. He impresses he gets a job. The starter gets hurt and all the rest is history is now in the hall of fame. So i think that's why you do it you you and that's why i did it for a few years and I love those great experience. I mean you. Don't you can only do that when you're still in the prime of your athletic life and and so i'm glad i did it even though it delayed a little bit of my professional career but I i definitely don't regret. Yeah with so when you found it came to an end was it. Was it something you kind of always knew is going to happen you prepared for you said you know what i'm going to play ride this out as long as i can and then i'm going to start some sort of professional career and business or something that always in the back of your mind or was it like with me. I always thought. I was going to be a pilot and west when nine eleven happened and i got thrust in the corporate arena was a little bit of panic. Initially but How was it for you. Well i you know. I think kids. Are i talk with high school and college kids now. They're just so much smarter and better intentions than i did. When i was in college I didn't even really think about not playing football right And and so That could you know. I had friends who were really good about Building relationships creating connections setting themselves up for for life after college. I just wasn't one of those people. I i was immature like a lot of twenty two year olds and so i didn't have any thought of not playing I just happened to get really lucky. I am a family friend. Decided to take a chance on me and hire me into a sales job and And then just said hey just kind of use the same type of work ethic you learn as a player but now do this year for this job and if you do I have a hunch that things will go well. his name's rex. Goswell still a great friend to this day and just i'm just lucky. I had a person who is willing to take a shot. And then i as i try to do. I like to prove people right When they believe in fortunately it kind of my career went from there man. What a blessing to have that person kind of in your corner to kind of steer you. They saw something in you right. Which i think is an obligation of all this leaders right. Great leaders kinda see something that we don't even seen ourselves ripe and they help extract that out of you. That's great and then as i suppose you started working and that's when it was a lexus nexus nexus right and so you're in this sales position in this professional role like with me that's when it became. I started getting these moments of clarity of like. Oh where i came from. In my case it was the marine corps and flying planes in my mindset was limited. When i first started in thinking all i know how to do sleigh airplanes and but then as i got into the corporate arena i started saying oh i did learn a lot more than just flying airplanes. I'm assuming the probably same happen you with your football experience in in the great coaches and mentors you surrounded yourself around most of your life. I learned i learned how to develop a work ethic. I learned resilience. I learned preparation. I learned being coach -able. I learned how to collaborate with others. i got to college. I was on a much more diverse team people from wide variety of backgrounds. And i played a in the arena league down in birmingham so completely different from where. I'm from here in ohio and so i would say i think i learned about people. I learned a lot about myself. Learn about how to work. I learned how to do extra. I learned all that from my coaches from playing sports. And so i. I just tried to take that into the professional world and i liked the profession of selling because the people who were landing at the top of the stack rankings. The people who were making the most money the people who are getting promoted. They were the ones who were working the hardest. I don't have any experience. But i do think i could work And so i i. I was willing and still. I'm willing to to to work really hard at it. And then Eventually led to me. You know having some success in doing well exceeding the goals accompany set for me and then that led to promotions and more opportunities. And so i think that's that i direct all of that back to a combination of two things. One my family. My parents my brothers as well as My coaches who really taught me how to out of work once. I want for my eighth grade to ninth grade year.

Spring League football tourney to play in bubble
"That. I was reading an interesting story. This just hit There's gonna be a Spring league in football. A 16 football tournament in Las Vegas. They will start in October. And they'll use a bubble concept very similar to what we're witnessing now in the NHL and N BA, the teams will be stocked mostly with players that have been released by NFL teams. And also 20 to 30 college players from FBS power five schools that either decided to opt out in 2020 or had their season's cancelled. Interesting. They'll be 228 players 38 players per team. The law be housed in the same hotel will practice and play at the same facility. And they'll be quarantined within the air quote bubble. Would the woods? That would be Brian Woods? Who is the Spring League? That's what they're calling it. The Spring League CEO. Said that Events will be funded internally. With the possibility of recouping some money from a broadcast agreement at a later date. Interesting boy. Somebody very opportunistic and I don't know. You put something together that big that quick on how they're going to play in October. But how could college players being the bubble? When are they going to school dropped out guys that would be done their job. They're not going to play it all right if college football's going to cancel the season So they're not going to go back. There's going to be some players ago. Okay? I guess I'm done done going back this spring League. That's what it's called Conduction annual monthlong Siri's of practices and games. A showcase talent to the NFL and CFL scouts. It also hosts several other smaller and more frequent player showcases, most recently, a four day event in Denver last month. I didn't even know about this. The spring leagues bubble schedule this fall calls for 10 days of practice starting October 7th. Followed by nine games between October 17th of October 28th. During games the league will ban huddles. And limit each team to 19 players, three coaches and three medical staffers on the field or on the sideline. The remaining 19 players and all their staffers will be stationed either in the end zone tunnel. Or off the field entirely, and will be called when needed. Disinfect intense we placed on both sidelines. Three game officials will be assigned to clean the game ball. Some player equipment after every single play, and all protocols will be overseen by Dr Paul Auerbach. A professor at the Stanford

Race for No. 1 pick in 2020 NFL Draft: Joe Burrow to the Bengals becomes the trendy pick
"I just don't think that Joe burrow necessarily says the things that he said being a little wishy washy about committed the bangles before this and that all goes away because of the scouting combine his want to throw gasoline on the fire eight maybe he again maybe he wants to challenge we had Carson Palmer on the show radio row Superbowl week he said I was gonna get drafted number one overall people told me don't go to the bangles there losing organization I said I've got I'm good enough to change it there he said look looking back there was a youthful arrogance about me I thought I could change it I realized I learned I could not so perhaps Joe burrows in the same boat but perhaps Schober also is getting other information or other direction from his father his dad played professional football his dad played football in the CFL his dad has been a football dad it's distinctly possible is dad knowing the ins and out of an NFL career or a pro football career says you know what you don't want to go to the bangles and let's get you somewhere else which is exactly what Archie manning did so this is no slam against Bengals fans of this city of Cincinnati you know they're no worse or better this is no worse or better than many other cities in the NFL this is simply about can you trust the ownership namely Mike brown to support you to build a winner Joe burrow is the best quarterback in this draft by a long shot he's the best player because the numbers he put up last year he's also the best back because of two ways injury Joe burrow in a quarterback league is the best quarterback in this year's draft so you know he's got some leverage there and does he have faith that Mike brown who is renowned in the NFL as a cheapskate does he have the faith that Michael brown will do enough that we had to go on the show late last week and he absolutely was adamant that the idea the narrative that the Bengals don't wanna win is silly just look at the playoff berths that they made the playoffs seven times under Marvin Lewis and that if you make the playoffs that many times and you draft as well as they do which they do draft very well then you shouldn't be criticized for not trying to

The State of 'The Black Quarterback': A Conversation with Donovan McNabb
"Over a decade ago my Business Partner Hall of Fame Quarterback Warren Moon. I sat down to discuss. How can we stop? The labeling of black quarterbacks are dream was for some day they're not to be that description at all. I was blessed to sit down with Donovan. Mcnabb one of his men teas and proteges to discuss the status and progression of black quarterbacks in the NFL. This is entrepreneurs. The playbook hey I wanted to have a conversation about black quarterbacks and as you know it's been a big part of my career has warned being a client and then a partner of mine are dream. Ten years ago was that nobody would ever say black quarterback right but I think you know to this day that they don't use it as much but I see a hangover when I look at you not be in the hall of fame or the way that Warren's marketed because they don't want that story told about six years in Canada right right and then there's just an under Tony it's unintentional. It's like even with the metoo movement. Things go on aren't intentional. It's social development social. How can we help? Expediter accelerate people understanding the equality. That exists I you have to appreciate I don't think we're at a point where we appreciate the level of evolution. That's going on and I say that because he wanted to mention. Hey you know you were kind of guy that passed the torch in them like no. The torch was already late for Marlin Bristow Gilliam and dumb and James James Harris and those particular guys. It was then but it wasn't one that was accepted and then. I think when you mentioned the warnings and the Randall Donovan. Before I thought it was a warm place you played when you played but it was. It was kind of a it. Wasn't it wasn't appreciate and when? I say that you know it was the yard that Warren Password worn was Dan Marino. We'll be talking about how radio because his numbers are comparable today without the six years in candidate. But I I think what we're seeing now is. We're seeing people start to understand the level of talent ability. How cerebral these kids are. They can play from the pocket and their leaves. These are all things that when they mentioned about. You'll see that in in the list now and says it has it's literally presidential but but the thing is you have to be able to take a step back and say you know what these kids can play the quarterback position. And when you look at the collegiate ranks then more black quarterbacks in the collegiate good ones so again it goes back to happen understand. What the level we go through and give it to appreciate what we're seeing you know. I do allow entrepreneurs and I talked about patients who and the need to be offended or or resentful. And it's so interesting with all those guys that you talk to your mom. Briscoe someone that in California. We do a ton of work with for years trying to get that movie made by the way you know. It's a really good movie and a really good story but nobody's really resentful and angry or offended. How do you have the patience to wait for the reality to come about that? All the top quarterbacks are going to be evaluated by their talent. Well here we have old. School mentality shouts and tell you them telling evaluators who still have that. Well he's black quarterback what are we just evaluated his ability. How intelligent he is. The family background would become as he comes out. It's nothing else that you need to focus on focus on his color. You only public hair. You have to focus on how he wants. You know the the focus needs to be more of the position and that's what we're seeing we have. We have been after the American insult that people are afraid to talk about now. He will say well. We don't need talking about though. He's the third every America's worries. They play of great ones. The greatest african-american quarterback did win. The might. I've worked with before because the caregiver Steve but this could be an opportunity for a guy who people love is ability. Yeah and then. They want to question the thing about his character. What are you looking at? Are you looking more deep into trying to fight the negative or how good this really with? Doug flutie yeah who has a lot of similarities to a lot of running quarterback and I said if you were an African American would have been your chances even to play in the CFL for how old he is. He said there won't be a chance ever but stories like that people boss. Yeah well that's what I wanted in talking to people over and and it's important for us to focus on that because it's not gonNA stop. I mean we're looking at. We've looked at five afterward quarterback just in the playoffs alone. Yeah headed had a chance to have to play it in title game and then it's GonNa continue to grow where mean who's to say feels doesn't get drafted in the next year or two from Ohio state. Then I was talking about him. It's exciting right now. You've been one of those guys. They continue to grind the path. I'm on your team. As far as I'm Jay Hall of Famer right here. More people need to be aware of the issues that we're facing and this guy needs to be in the hall of fame and many others because we're building a pipeline hall of famers. It's a shame that Warren Moon American and I appreciate the respect. I love warranty. That's right I n there. I appreciate your insight and honesty thanksgiving.

The Big Story
How does hockey reckon with an abusive power structure?
"By the time you finish listening to this podcast. It's likely there will be more stories out there about abusive hockey coaches right now as we are recording this and as you're listening to it. The sport is facing a reckoning. It began with the toppling of one of the biggest domino's in the game. Mike Babcock out as coach of the Toronto Maple leafs tonight. Every mounting losses position became more and more tenuous and tonight his reign lean over. leafs nation is over. Mike Babcock was fired by the Toronto. Maple leafs for the same reason. Tons of hockey coaches have been fired before him. His team was underachieving. He might have been a bigger name than those other coaches but still not unusual then. The story started during the two thousand sixteen seventeen season. Mitch Moore had a private meeting with Mike Babcock and the coach asked then rookie to list the players on the team from Best Work Catholic to worst martyr complied not realizing that that talk within show his list to some of the players ranked the lowest and not long after that it became clear. The stories weren't just about Mike Babcock. Major allegations made against Calgary flames head coach. Bill Peters a former. NHL Her Chemo Lou. who spend spend some time with the flames in the early part of this decade calling for his alleged use of racial slurs while they were both part of the Chicago Blackhawks Organization now players ears are saying publicly things that used to be kept behind closed doors at all cost and the NHL in almost every league below it is realizing that it has a problem problem or more accurately that it has had a problem for quite some time? Now the question is what happens next. What did they do about it? What changes changes in the leafs? They've been playing a lot better since they fired the guy who humiliated one of their best players who thought I'm Jordan Heath Rawlings. This is the big story. Jeff Blair is a senior writer at sports net dot CA. He is the CO host of writer's block on Sports Net. Five ninety fan every day. He has covered a lot of dressing rooms ends and locker rooms throughout his career. Hey Jeff how you doing short. I'm doing well you've You've covered a lot of dressing rooms and locker rooms over the years I was. I was thinking about this the other day when the stuff happened with the Chemo. Lou and Bill Peters out of thinking to myself. I ever seen a locker room. I thought something nothing really poisonous and happen. And I think because unbalanced I spent more time around baseball clubhouses than anything else and initially when I started reporting Winnipeg CFL locker rooms is kind of a little different than hockey. I mean baseball. There have been African American players. There've there've been Latino players in baseball has its issues but it's nothing to go on a clubhouse now and see that the white players are in the minority I mean that's just the way it is and the NFL. When I covered it's the same thing and I don't remember any relationship with a manager or coach or a team I thought was particularly toxic? I mean they're examples of tone deafness. But what I think happens more often than not in a lot of these situations is just the manager coach. Whatever you WANNA call it becomes tone-deaf two things? Well why don't you start then by explaining how we got here where it started with Mike. Babcock in the leafs. Yeah there's a couple of things first of all. I'm a little concerned that people are sort word of mixing. Mike Babcock not you but people in general people were kind of going all Mike Babcock and then Bill Peters. Because here's the thing Mike Babcock seems to have tried cried some Caveman Sports Psychology on Mitch. Martyr So tell us about that. Mitch Monitor the first year. The story is now now that everybody's confirmed Mike. Babcock wanted him to work harder. So Mike Babcock called them into his office and said list your teammates in terms of hardest working to least hardworking. And tell me where you'd put Yourself Yourself Mitch. Marna with coach wants to do this so he goes ahead and does that and Somehow and I I don't know when it came out but somehow Mike Babcock doc essentially went to some of the guys that were below martyring. Say Mitch thanks. She works harder than you. You know this guy's dog in it right now and he thinks that works harder than you and the best line out of the Whole Story and God love Mitch. Martin but the best line of the whole story's Mitch Marnie just kind of shrugging and going nobody took it seriously right. You know it's like that's just that's just babs so I mean their stories. You know you can go. God stories about would coaches used to do for motivating players or trying to catch players airs. I Never Scotty Bowman Scotty. Bowman got tired of his team's missing curfew. So Scotty Bowman would go down. And I can't remember which city this went down to the front desk of the hotel and I think curfew was midnight. Went Down to the front desk of the Hotel at eleven thirty gave a stick to the dorm and said do me a favor when the guys come in get them to sign the stick and we'll we're going to auction off to charity so the next day Scott he goes into the locker eight. These are all the guys that showed up after midnight. Their names are on the stick so I mean stuff like that is you know. That's all part of an old school. Coaching you mentality. Whatever you think of it? Yeah it's and I mean at the heart of the the coach player relationship and this and this is why we'll talk specifically about. Bill Peterson Chemo. Lucas IT'S A. It's a point I think people are missing. I mean at the heart of a coach player relationship. It's a power relationship. I'm the coach. I control the most important part of your career. I control your time I control. How many starts you're gonNA make I control? Will how many at bats you're going to get I control if you're going to be coming in the ninth inning. I control if you're going to start back to back games like Then I control. You're earning power. This is sort of at the route. That's the traditional relations traditional relationship. Is that changing it is in the NHL. I find this fascinating because the four major sports in North America all right now if you look at sort of the players relationship to to power in the game the NBA players leak. It just is players are getting lots of money They make a a lot of money from shoe deals so they're comfortable financially outside of what they're earning contract like Shaquille O'Neal didn't spend any money he made playing basketball. He invested all all he lived off. His shoe deals coaches have no power over anybody in the NBA the NFL's you know you're disposable piece of meat. There's no such thing as guaranteed contract. Baseball's always had a very very strong players association. It's Kinda splintered now and I think we're kind of in an every man for himself air but what's happened in hockey is there has been an an influx of really talented really young players and because of the way the NHL 's collective bargaining agreement is setup. You Essentially Ashley. Now have a bunch of guys who were twenty two twenty three or twenty four making eight million dollars a year under contract for five six or seven years and that's the biggest difference to me. Is that players always used to make more than the coach and this is specifically the NHL players always used to make more than the coach. But they've got more term So if you're Mike Babcock and you've got three years left on your contract you've got Mitch Monitor. He's got six years left. He's making ten and a half million dollars a year. How do you? How do you motivate that? How do you manage them? It would take us. Ice Type. Doesn't matter to him take two minutes ice time away from me. I'm getting ten million dollars a year and by the way I got a job here for years down the road and you say that so hockey ocoee more than any other sport I think is is going through. This and hockey is going to half the data and and and the coaches are going to have to. The players aren't going to have to adapt. The coaches are going to have to debt. And this this gets the Bill Peter Situation and and why I think this is particularly vile you know first of all. I mean there's no statute of limitations and racism so I've heard people will make the case. Well he said this ten years ago three organizations ago he wasn't even with the flames. You have somebody claiming that he. He used the N.. Word that he used a racial epithet. You have that player's teammates backing you up. You have subsequent you have players coming out. Who played for Bill? Peterson Peterson Carolina. Saying hey he physically abused me. You have players coming out and saying yeah not only did he. Physically abused Rod brindamour. Not only did he did. He physically abused guys. But you've got player saying oh by the way we spoke. The Ron Francis who was general manager the team at the time and he didn't do anything wrong. There was something but the Akeem loose. The situation is really. I find it really bothersome. Because what was he supposed to do. You know these guys are playing in the American Hockey League They're not making a lot of money. Bill Peters when he was coaching that team the Rockford ice hawks. He held the future in his hands. so if you're a guy like a chemo Lou and you're trying to establish yourself or you're trying to get your career going going to your general manager and writing out your head. Coaches racist is probably not not a good career. Move and I think more than anything else. What this says is that at that time? Ten years ago that organization Chicago Blackhawks. There wasn't a structure in place. I mean I'm not gonNA say that guys don't yell things at each other in the locker room or on the ice and we we know they do. We know that racial epithets unfortunately are still a part of the sort of the on Ice Onfield Dialogue and sports. I don't think this happens now though like if we were rewinding this Chemo Lou had been Ah. I don't think that happens. 'cause he reports to somebody or he goes on social media then and it's taken care of but it bothers me that people are saying that some people are saying well you know ten years ago and nobody else stood up. It's people have to understand Dan that again. This gets to that that power relationship between the player and the coach. There's no way the player could you know what are you GonNa do. You're going to sacrifice your long term financial future because of this. I mean I'm not. I'm not saying that means. Bill Peters is right but hockey I think more than any other more than any other sport just by the the nature of how players are developed. Kids leave home. Kids go to town cities. They're billeted with people dependent on the structure. They are dependent on on the power structure there absolutely dependent on the power structure. And I think maybe that's what has created this culture around hockey the the NHL is really really trying. I think to find a way and I mean the NHL in general teams coaches are trying to find a way to deal with this the new age the players the the ultimate lesson the lesson from hopefully for this whole thing with Bill Peters is that there has to be every organization has to look at itself often say do we have the structures in

There I think king deserves a little cut of the KYW due, to I think she gets a little cut All right the topic. Right now in the NFL was what Oh look out We got a spill and I'll six-year. Bill the, topic I, mean I guess unfortunately is Terrel Owens or. Levy on Bill let me start. With, Sarah head Do we know what his gripe is I assume I mean look I I'm assuming that it's the I got into my third year and the way I look at that basically is. That two thirds of the three hundred and some odd people who were? In. The pro football hall of fame got in after? Their first year of eligibility does? That, make Harry Carson and Ron Yeary and Lynn Swann and, Fran tarkenton does that make them less hall of, fame deserving does that make their bus. Different no it's just the silliest controversy in hall of. Fame history, but it's, a controversy so we must address it but. Of famers You know there's there's no I was out in, Tahoe last week that golf tournament. Aaron Rodgers out there but was out, having a drink with a bunch of older guys like people of? Peter king's, generation and one of them said to me does he have any idea. How for the, rest of his life I mean, he's going to be able to make money off the hall of fame now if he this is, the hall of fame is he going. To be able to make money off the hall of fame and this was a this. Was a, very well respected person and so you know the? Hall? Of fame sort. Of shuffles, business hall of famers ways I mean are they, going to do that with Tarallo wins now I don't know it's I that's, not the. Biggest reason or the biggest anything but it just strikes? First ballot hall of Famer I mean I've supported him all along I didn't think it was some, grave injustice because I do think there were some things against him Nobody. Wants to hear this but he was a third of a teammate that's all there is to it And he dropped the ball a lot particularly later in his career. I in my. Opinion though without any question he deserves to be in the pro football hall of fame I, supported him I'm glad he's in and I could? Care less whether he's in canton or not in Kim, do we view Randy moss differently than we do. And I think we do because Randy moss. To me I look at Randy moss is a singular, player I don't look at Tarallo Enzi singular player I think Randy. Moss was such an incredible, deep thread so incredibly great stretching the field and dominating games with his speed And his hands deep downfield. He had great hands I I mean I. Look at Randy moss is being fifteen percent better player, whatever the number save and tear allowance also he's grown up yeah Yeah he has Randy moss who's really has yeah yeah he's shirt. And now Tara loans wants to still make a comeback in the CFL I read I just read that this morning on my way up here in teaches own if he wants to do it I will say, this few years, ago when, I.
