Business by His Design With ServiceTitan's Chris Hunter

"Titling this business by his design on purpose Chris and So I've got Chris Hunter Chris You know, we've talked a little bit about our Relationship with Jesus and running a Christian business, which we both take serious and So I want to start off with a couple questions As far as when we talk about our Christian walk and we refer to Jesus and Bible scriptures Could you share a little bit about your walk You know, when did you become a Christian and why? Yeah, well first, let me let me just say thank you so much for inviting me on man. I'm a huge fan Followed you for a long time and a lot of what even led me originally to you was your your strong faith and you wasn't ashamed of it and I respected that and I've always tried to Find other leaders and mentors that that I knew were were following that same path and that I could learn from right? So I I don't know. I can't remember how exactly I first heard about you But a longtime fan and a glad glad to finally connect like this and you sent me a book I really appreciated that that was it's a great book that you have as well So, oh and I remember let me let me think back way back when you had a game that I bought and then we played at our shop and it was a Basically teaching the technicians and everybody had a all about business, but it was in a game format and I love that So yeah flashback there. I just remembered that yeah, that was called top gob and it was stood for the open book game of business and Yeah, I just I wanted to let Technicians and installers and everybody else know just a little bit about making decisions in a business. So that's a pretty cool game Yeah, it was excellent. But yeah, so so back to some small walk So let me give you the short version. So I was really blessed man. I grew up with In the in the church grew up my mom was a strong believer always a taught me the right things and and All that stuff my dad as well, but I remember at 11 years old. I kind of had my first taste of Mortality like what in the world so I had my my stepdad at the time was killed in a car accident And it just opened up a whole lot of questions for me, you know, like oh my what does that mean? Where do they go? What happens? You know? And all of that since happened and and and at that point time is when I kind of hit that. Oh my goodness I need a Savior, you know, and I remember My mom to tell me all about it as well. And and I even had grandparents that always, you know, modeled it as well So at that point time I become a believer But now fast forward. I was a typical teenager man. I'm telling you Greg. I ran hard had a lot of fun did a lot of things and and and Lo and behold kind of fell fell into the trap of just living my life my own way For for a while and even in business, but then in at some point I want to say was probably around 2010 2011 I really had a Awakening, you know, like oh my goodness This is my my chance to live a godly life Pass on a legacy and really make a difference So at that point time is really when it turned for me and I went all -in as as you can say, yeah that's that's a great story and you know, I think we all need to There's gonna be a time in everyone's life where they realize they need something more There's something else out there there. We can't do it on our own every time we try it fails and And we can only create temporary happiness so long yeah, and and when I say, you know, a lot of people have the have the conversion story of all they were Doing drugs and drinking and all this stuff. So I'm necessary. I wouldn't necessarily that I wasn't all To the outside looking in. Oh, wow a great guy, you know, look at him, but you know what? I just was very apathetic. I wasn't I wasn't being intentional. I wasn't trying to to use my influence I wouldn't try to Do anything that God blessed me with these gifts for so so it was I was living Chris's way But it was very apathetic and so the conversion to going all -in wasn't necessary like oh my goodness You were terrible and now you have you've completely turned around but in all sense of the world I was being very very complacent and apathetic with the responsibility God had given

Sometimes It Takes Extreme Personal Despair to See the Political Light

"I just a brief example, the October 7th massacre and the terrorist attack, a lot of people I know, I have a lot of friends who happen to be went to Queens College, worked in an area of New York that had a rather large Jewish population. Who cares? But I maintain contact with a lot of people. You have any idea how many? They're not diehard But they'll generally vote Democrat? Any idea how many Jewish friends of mine are like, this is it? Like I've I've seen them who they are for who they are for the first time after October 7th. You understand? took It a moment of extreme pain and personal, personal despair, for them to finally say, now I see it. What I'm getting at is you can hear about a crime wave in San Francisco. You can hear about, you know, what do they call them? Breaking ram and steals now, whatever the hell they are, ram and run. They're running through car, stolen cars into storefronts. Like, I mean, literally running through the storefront with the stolen car. And then running into the store and taking all the stuff. You can hear about that all you want. If it doesn't happen in your house or your ladies and gentlemen, is it even real? That's the saddest part of this whole

Adjanys Marrero Talks Sharing Your Message With Authenticity

"Would be a good question for anybody listening to ask themselves if they have something, a brand, a product, something that they want to offer to people? Like, what would be a good question for them to say, how do I share this or how do I market this? I hate the word market. Like, I wish we could come up with a better word than marketing, you know, because it always makes me think of, like, car salesmen, you know, like, as soon as you walk in, like, you get hit with, like, you know, sorry to all the car salesmen listening, but, you know, like, that aggressive, like, like, you know, they're pitching you, like, you don't want to feel pitched to all the time. So, what should I ask myself if I want to share my message, like, to make sure I'm within integrity? Yeah. Yes. I would, I would ask if you got no benefit at all whatsoever from the work that you do and it would only be of a benefit, you know, what would you do? Because I think that so much of our culture and just living in just the modern society, we're not exempt from fear. And a lot of times that fear triggers that self protecting and acquiring material things. And, you know, we all know that there's no real safety in that. But I think that the best thing that I teach people with the same movement, which is more about creating a focus on healing the world and really being kind of big about it. Like, I have a personal mission that if I could eradicate domestic violence from society and it's so big that I don't know how it's going to happen, but I can only just like tunnel vision. Like, so all the fame, all the glory, all the podcasts has absolutely nothing with me. I know I'm a representative because that's the nature of the work, but it's really, I just cannot wait till I have, you know, so many people who are saying, you know, you helped me get out of domestic violence. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know who to talk to, you know, like not relying on the government or anything like that, but having that internal manifestation ability using creativity, because you have to be creative. Sometimes creativity is all you have. I talk to women who are undocumented, illegal women who are in domestic abuse relationships. Who are they going to go to? Right. But the imagination is something we all have and visualizing could be just the biggest, most powerful thing. So if you could be selfless in your pursuit and imagine that you're, you're actually fixing the world, that you are actually taking on a big, powerful, beautiful vision. Can you draw inspiration from that? And it doesn't matter what you sell because the mission doesn't change. Yeah. Yeah, I can see exactly what you mean. I get it. Because if it was, if I could offer everybody in the world to know and feel seen, validated, heard, and grateful in their life, then I know the world would change. Because if I'm grateful for my life, how am I going to hurt you? I can't hurt somebody else, right? I can't because I'm happy, joyful, and grateful, right? So if we all felt that way and looked at their own life and felt grateful for what they have around them, the love that they have, and whatever it is they're doing, it doesn't matter, then the world would look different. So yeah, I know what you're saying. Because if I could do that, if I could offer and teach people how to do that, then I would, yeah, everything would start to shift. Everything would shift. And if you think about it, it's not that big a deal. You're just teaching people to be grateful. It's not like we're not offering a magical pill or some very varied thing. We're actually offering something that's concrete and solid, that scientific evidence, that just being grateful makes you make better choices because you're happy. When you're happy, you have more access to better decisions. Well, yeah, and it raises your vibration. Like you mentioned Abraham Hicks, like that's what they talk about, raising our frequency, raising our vibration. So gratitude is high on the vibrational scale compared to like guilt, shame, anger, fear, all those things, which are low. So we attract more of those low frequencies where we want to attract higher frequencies. And that's what we all want

I hate driving on Thanksgiving weekend, both coming and going, the Wednesday and the Sunday, because people are a little bit impatient. Maybe it's because it's a short time. Thanksgiving's really one day, then of course there's Black Friday, and it's a busy, hectic weekend, and while it's kind of a long weekend, it's not. It's kind of a weird weekend. We all want to get to where we're going, spend time with the family, and while everybody seems to be anxious and grumpy, and as we head over the river and through the woods to whether it's grandma's house or the sister -in -law's house or the brother -in -law's house or wherever you're going, I hope you're having a good Thanksgiving. I don't know if, again, it's just me that my stamina for the road isn't what it used to be. Yeah, we traveled last weekend to Fort Wayne, Indiana, so that was like a six -hour trip to and from. I got injured on the way, so the trip back was not fun, and now we're doing it again. I used to be able to drive 14 hours in a day. I'd be tired, but no big deal. I don't know if it's me or if it's everybody else.

Was Terrorism at the Root of Recent Car Explosion?

"That's been filed is what New York's governor came out and said. So Kathy Hochul has come out most and recently said, and this is a quote from her, there is no evidence, no evidence at this time that this was terrorist activity. And that's what I want to make very clear to the public. OK. Nobody else been has very clear to the public in such a demonstrative way. The FBI, who is the lead investigator in this, they have not said about this activity. What is Kathy Hochul's rationale for coming out and saying there is no at evidence this time this was terrorist activity? And I want to make that very clear to the public. Well, she's saying that was it a local guy, or I guess if there are two local guys, but she said a local guy. What is this? Oh, that John. He's really done it this time. Gosh, you know, he he shot up those bombs and he ended up going straight at Border Patrol. Bob Not silly, but don't mind him. Just say he got carried away this time. It'll be the last last time, obviously. I mean, seriously, is that the place we're supposed to live in mentally and intellectually here? I mean, look, you got to let the investigators do what they do. But if you have a massive explosion to the point where you can't even identify the people that were in the car, and that's what we've heard so far because of of how massive the explosion was. You have a car that is driving erratically and is speeding towards Border Patrol. Well. That isn't a terrorist attack, even if it is a local guy. I don't know, maybe somebody familiar to Kathy Huckle. I mean, it just you can't make this stuff up. You can't make this stuff up. And by the way, we had to talk about things like this. In part, not just because New York once again did not make sense and Kathy Huckle is her governor, but also because Joe Biden is president of the United States and he makes the entire world less safe. And so you have crazy people to get ideas from all over the place and bad people are acting out more regularly, whether you're talking about terrorist organizations like Hamas, or I don't know, Bob and Johnny from somewhere in New York. If that's who this turns out to be. Because Kathy Huckle wants to make it very clear. Hey there. Happy Thanksgiving -ish,

Speeding (MM #4626)

"I read a story online yesterday and I thought, why haven't I ever seen this before? This is something that I would expect to have been coming for a long time, but maybe it's new. The NTSB has asked 17 automakers to install ISA technology in all new vehicles. ISA stands for Intelligent Speed Assistance. These are basically speed controllers, two different kinds, passive and active. They want to limit speeding in automobiles. Now, I'll be the first to admit, I go over the speed limit every now and again. But the one thing I've noticed over the last few years, and perhaps it's just because I'm getting older, I don't drive as fast as I used to. And people around me, driving much faster. I'm not in that big a hurry, even though I'm always in a hurry, but putting speed controlling devices in vehicles, I'm surprised they haven't asked this before. Now I know there are some trucks and things like that that have those controls in them, so certain vehicles can't go over certain speed limits, but they're trying to find ways to reduce speeding accidents, and in particular, speeding deaths. With the technology, I guess we can do that in all cars. I'm just wondering why it took so long.

Endrow Metelus Uses Graphic Tees to Showcase the Beauty of Inner Cities

"So you mentioned that your graphic tees captures the beauty of the inner city. So how do you design your clothing to convey this message while also supporting STEM initiative or STEM education? So when it comes to showing the beauty of the inner city, to me, what that means is, I guess it's something that has to do with me. It's the vision that I see. Okay. What I deem beauty. Because as I said earlier, if you turn on the 6 o 'clock news, just in general, you look at the history, especially in America, we, especially the black male itself, just black people in general, it's never, we're never seen in a good light. It's always been, even when you say something black, it's never seen. Unless it's a car or something. Or the gala or whatever. It's never seen in a positive way. And the thing is these kids that I want to have, who's going to be the next, I don't know, cybersecurity personnel or whatever in STEM related. I want them to be represented, to see themselves, to see the beauty within themselves, to see the beauty where they stay, where they live. Okay. I want them to tell you, Hey, you're beautiful. And at the same time, give them that confidence. Hey, you can also transition to STEM. That confidence. Hey, I'm beautiful. Right? There's a beauty where I live. It's not what the TV says. Yeah, there's struggle, there's things we can do better, but the people within are beautiful. Right? Have that confidence when it comes to, Hey, you can be a cybersecurity, you can be an engineer. You can be all this because you already have that beauty within you. You won't have no doubts to go ahead and pursue it. So it's all connected is to build that confidence at the same time.

Endrow Metelus of Favela Boys Apparel Describes His Journey From Haiti to the US

"Can you share your story, the story behind your journey from Haiti to the United States and how your experience growing up in various communities have influenced your part? Obviously, I see that the focus of your organization is to try to change a conversation from the inner city being as it is portrayed out there in a positive light. Look at the illustration in the back of this shirt, of this t -shirt. This is really amazing. I love what you just said earlier. We're talking about this young man, for example, in the inner city. It's just to portray the environment, the mood in that very environment to tell a story, basically. Correct me if I am wrong, but while you're describing your journey from Haiti to the United States and how your experience in all this community has affected or influenced your view, your perspective to this point, can you please also integrate what I just shared, what you just shared about this young man, please? Correct. Pretty much born and raised in Haiti. I live in Port -au -Prince, the biggest city in Haiti. We live in Port -au -Prince. At some point, there was a coup d 'etat that happened. I ended up living in a farm for a couple of years. I've had that experience, living on a farm, 100 acres of land with mules, taking showers in the lake. Wait a minute. Why did you come to the United States, man? The coup d 'etat, the mules, everything, 100 acres. I live in a farm, doing the farmland, and I live in the city. Eventually, I was one of the lucky ones. Haiti, the life and experience of Haiti, there wasn't a lot of opportunity. I was one of the lucky ones to be able to migrate to the United States. The first place I landed was Brooklyn, Crown Heights back in the 90s, 96 to be exact. If anyone was in Brooklyn, not the Brooklyn of today, Brooklyn back in 96, you understand it wasn't the Brooklyn of today, the Brooklyn of gentrification Brooklyn that we know. I had to go ahead. I didn't speak any English. I had to learn the language. I had to learn the language. At the same time, I was also an outsider because it's so new to me, so I had to be outside trying to understand the culture as well, understand the culture, understand the language. Eventually, I moved to Queens, Hollis, Queens to be exact. Same thing, it's a whole different culture. Even though it's still New York, there's a different culture there. It's more residential, but still the inner city at the same time. Start to learn a little bit more English to communicate with friends, start making more friends because I can speak now instead of being, because when you don't speak English, you just analyze it. You're just observing because you don't speak the language. You can't communicate with other people unless they speak your language. It actually is a gift because you're just analyzing everything. You're just learning everything. You're just trying to understand everything. Then once you're able to communicate, now you start talking about music, films, and so on and so forth. Then eventually, when they hit 1999, I moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia, right outside of Philadelphia, right outside of the city. That was a shock as well because I'm going to school where, when I was in New York, some of the kids had the clothes, the fashion and everything, some of them. Most didn't. When you go to where I went to the suburbs, all the kids, they turned 16, they got brand new cars. It's true. They got Mercedes. Everybody's looking fresh. It was a whole different thing. It was very different. It was more focused on education. You talk about college, university. These are conversations. I didn't even know what college was when I was in New York. I didn't even know what high school was when I was in New York. When you go to the suburbs, that's the conversation you were having. That's the conversation. Is there a difference? There's a huge difference. Oh, really? A huge difference because when you're in the suburbs, the kids are talking about what college we're going to. What did you get in the SATs? That's the focus. The focus is that. Because most of the parents are white collar doctors, lawyers, or pretty much doing well. They wanted to make sure their kids have the skill set to continue that path moving forward. That's also all these things. From Haiti to New York, the inner city, to the suburbs. I had a taste of everything. It's so easy for me to get along with pretty much everyone. I'm able to do that over the world because I travel a lot as well. I love it. I love it being able to have all these different experiences. That's pretty much how I came with this whole clothing brand.

"Okay. And that was that was once out of all sudden this this this and after we had one only snow in seattle for the winter and of course the entire city comes to a grinding halt And then we had a another sound started coming over on top of this one that sounded about the same when they made the same term but it had were less less obnoxious sound to it. They sort of went as it made the turn but it was sort of a company with a a a hard Turning when a. When i started hearing the sound became more difficult to turn the car Good don't let me get this straight. Does this noise occur as you're turning the steering wheel once you've got. The steering wheel walked to that hard left position which one of the initial the less obnoxious either one Noxious out as early as turning so as you're turning the steering wheel. The noise is consistent with your turning of the steering wheel. Okay that's good to know. And what about the second less obnoxious. what about that. One goes on as it goes to make a complete turnaround. It would be echinacea with sound if i if i had the steering wheel constant in the composition but locked in it will continue to make that sound as as you driving without turning the steering few drove a circle. This noise all the time. Make the second noise and make a second noise. what is it do it. I okay Oh wait a minute now. Did he tell us what kind of car he owns. No can we yes. It'll take you right. Is it a general motors vehicle. Is it a volvo. No it's a japanese car. Why not what's left. It's got all all. I'll how silly of me i put. I had the wrong demographics in mind. Here what are you. What's a man like you doing. Driving a chrysler vehicle for the only thing left. Not a foil. Europe were in europe. Are we were in europe german and we we cheap. German are expensive german. Vw only took me thirty six question. Right v. w. okay what is it. W what sh- ronco does this thing. I mean the noise you describe all in my mind that are associated with power steering noise and this guy doesn't have power steering. What up plumber does it. No but it is the steering. I'm i i haven't figured out know what you know. Why hasn't figured it out because the steering his brakes on not not as breaks impossible. Now i'll tell you i is. It is whatever it is absolutely. And i will stake my life on this eric. Absolutely benign it is a loose piece of metal it is. It is a worn worn brake pad. Is something simple eric. Dolt that you'll life on it. My brothers nuts. yes so that is second. Noise could be the beginnings of a bad wheel bearing. No i hate to disagree. He's my brother. And i love him but he's a zero all right what you got some speculation on the second noise talking like meatball brother i. It's easy to criticise when you got no ideas of your own. Well you you want an answer to this. Yeah you want your dealer. No i know. I think the answer to this is you. You have a brake pad. That's making both of these noises. And what's happening is when you make this. Turn your hitting the little screech read on the pad and you're making the noise. Yeah there's a little there's a little plate that little read that vibrates it's supposed to be a A warning that the pads are worn. Eric just to make my brother really look like a fool column. When was the last time you had the pads replaced three years ago before about the car three years ago. Three years ago case. Eric the check out. That's where you're noises coming from. I don't believe it is semi brother of personal interest seriously. Just send us a postcard and tell us what really how you both see eric. All right thank you thank you call. Hey you know what time it is time to sell off. Those old sparkplugs is fourth of july bottle rocket play. This is the part of the show. We checked back on one of our callers to see if the advice we gave was so good so so are so so sumi player this week. It's rich from brussels belgium at your over him. I don't even remember belgium. Well according to the little card he rich called us a couple months ago because he was having a problem with this be under morning. And i turn key and nothing happened. The car was completely dead really really so. I didn't know what to do. So i cleaned the garage. There's a method to my man. is here. The car was near the bottom of my driveway. Which is kinda shaped like a all. I got it. You wanna drive into the garage and pop the clutch. Exactly i had about thirty to thirty five feet worked it did. Oh absolutely i you know. I was quick with that break. Oh that's great. I was pretty worried. You know i. I was back while the garage was coming pretty quick out of his misery. So what are we. tell them. what's wrong with the peseta. Remember we narrowed it down to eat the starter motor or the ignition switch. But since the lights the radio still work we settled on the starter motor. I think we're wrong anyway. Let's see rich. Are you there yes. I'm here all right. Look before we find out whether the starter motor was on. The fritz or deductive reasoning was on the fritz. We need to verify that the answer are about to give stump. That trump has not been influenced by our staff. All the staff of national public radio or nato commanders. We sent into intimidate you. Is that true. That's true all right breaks. The news wasn't the starter motor. No it was not i think. So how can we re. It was his battery. No no the ignition switch was all we thought so. It really was the switch. Yeah no kidding hitting. don't we get partial credit. While you know tom. You were right and then and then you let your your lovable brother overrule you. All that always happened. So i suggested the ignition switch. Yeah and you said. Do the lights on the radio work and i said yes and then you said absolutely the starter motor on. The radio works whether the switches on nought man. I won't do that anymore. Another listening to you again. Well anyway they stump. The chumps was really nice talking to you rich. Thanks for letting us call you back. Okay no problem thanks take care okay. Bye bye bye if you is so on the show you'd like us to bring back for stump to chump someone. Will you know what it looks. Like the answer's right near. Yeah you can email suggestion from contact dot com or you can give us a call and chances are you'll stump us right now. The numbers eight car talk. "Of those traps in there. It'll be a good conversation starter over. They put them on the ball. I don't see any reason to kill the little guys bothering anybody bothering randy. Why because they're gonna start crawling up in a short heat on keeping him. I got a note here from someone who didn't sign it But it says congratulations on your new. Mg i will refrain from the myriad lucas electric jokes. And i'll give you a story from my british sports car days. I want an mg with the following bumper sticker on it the parts observed falling from this vehicle manufactured by the finest british craftsmanship. It was the the uaw british and it may be true. I mean it may be that the parts are manufactured would find craftsmanship attached. Well exactly. I think that's the problem. Attachment is very very important. Actually parts of not been falling. Oh yeah they have what they have been falling off defined parts the clutch. A loss part is a piece that is integral to the performance of the car and the crowd. Sound any worse or better any of these parts as well. I hardly noticed any difference when the clutch return. Spring fell off. It's still ran. The clutch still worked and when the exhaust system fell off. It made a lot of noise but it didn't affect the way that if you were death you would not have known there was anything wrong. A car ran perfectly well. So those exhaust hang in clutch bring turned out to be of no consequence right and they dance is the true virtue of english british engineering. It is they have recognized the note. The house quince. The no consequence sept sure thinks could fall off. I mean that's gonna happen anyway but see when you see me by over engineered doesn't understand the every single piece of tile. That's it that's it. The whole thing blows up. You can lose. Probably sixty seventy percent of the parts. What if like the. The passenger seat felt what i care. No the hood blows up the sorry. The bonnet blows away. What do i care of your dad. Can you hear me ellen. Yes of course we can hear you. Hi boston actual boston boston. Just across the river from car pasta. No kidding well. I'm calling with moral ethical question. I really need your help with. Excuse us i haven't honda civic. It's a four door sedan and it's red and it seems to have a curse on it. It's been In three crashes. It's been vandalized. Nine times tree fell on it. It's been stolen and unfortunately returned. And then there was the time that i thought it was vandalized and brought it into the body shop for what i hope was a small repair. The forensics expert at my body shop told me that in fact a couple of kids that had a fight on it and he could determine that because the dense were not angle does. They would have been it if it had been smacked with crowbar. They were rounded as if a body had been shoved into it. Wow wow clearly the car you know. It's bad karma par- pardon the expression and You know. I wanna get rid of it. I'm just tired of having major car problems and having to spend five hundred dollars of my deductible and getting it fixed and i need to know. Here's the moral question. How much do i have to disclose about all these things to prospective buyers. Nothing nothing because and you and you gave this is gonna be good. You gave us the reason yourself because all these things that have happened to the car don't necessarily have anything to do with the car. But they really have to do with the fact that you and the car are incompatible. So are is what you're saying that it's possible that the curse is on me and not curses on the union. You can take to perfectly nice people and they get married and horrible things happen only because not that each of them individually is an evil person but that the union is wrong. That car ma and so all of these things that have happened to the car may not happen ever again. Well what if they ask because well there was a way out of that. You can hire an agent to sell your car. This is why would you go to look at a house. That's for sale. The owner is never there and the real estate agent. Answers doesn't have any termites. Don't say anything. I don't think so. Yeah and of course. They don't ask the the salary of these questions because they don't want to know so you could hire you can hire higher real estate agents to sell your car nondisclosure based on what. You're telling me what i really need to do. Is divorce this car but are you have to disclose okay but if i disclosed when you buy this car if i told you all these terrible things that happen to it i mean. This had no but my brother would. It happens in the suburbs. It happens on vacation wherever i take this car. Bad things happen. I mean anyone that looks at. It is going to figure it. You'll maybe you can dress demand convert. Maybe you can dress up at a man that would make them think for sure that's off. What a brilliant strategy okay. So what should i wear. I'm i'm trying to think. Well i'll we'll send you a picture of my sister. Go to one of these wacko out in left field hippie joints. You buy used clothing. That now only needed to be split to so so cold you might say. Hey whatever happens. My first night without with anesthesia was the kind of magical passionate ride. That left me with my pants on. The back of the kitchen share my underwear onto chandelier. My socks in the toilet my hair on the door handle half of my artificial legs somewhere in the pantry. That's right that's right yeah And typically it runs just great soon as you try to get it out on the highway. Is that when it. Which whenever. I'm in a hurry to get somewhere. It'll refuse to starred And so our sense. When i'm in a hurry or i don't use it for Play when i have to be somewhere on time very often. But when i use it when i have to be somewhere on time you get into the car and you say i hope this piece of junk starts even if you say to yourself you turn the key and nothing happened and You know if. I've got to get to meeting or i'm trying to get home at a certain time i'll jump in the deep end. Turn it over and won't do anything that will just sit there whatsoever. No sound whatsoever. That's good and Whenever you In order to get it to start you have to go through a ritual go ahead. We're ready face toward the east. Take shirts doesn't involve wearing pantyhose or anything. I just wanna make. This is a family show you another farm animals involved the ritual. I've been doing for five years despite several mechanics looking at it. Well you start by woodland all the wires into the dashboard And i think that's kind of that doesn't do that. Because that goes along with might theory but go ahead yeah Then in that doesn't do anything won't stay. It'll still amplify will come on. But he won't do anything prior to which the light didn't come on. The flight always comes on. This is an automatic. It dimmed so it kind of shows that you've got draining current automatic though. No then you have to get out of the vehicle. Open the hood wiggle a specific set of wires kind of near the firewall and then slammed the hood down and get back into the jeep. And it'll start right up You've have you ever tried Isolating the particular piece of the ritual which doesn't example. How did you ever tried checking. The wires underneath. You said that doesn't do it so we know it's not that that if you don't go through the whole ritual it upsets it in all the steps. I suspected if you skip the first two step steps and just slammed the hood that would do it for a long time. That the whole thing was just slamming. The hood yeah. Did you have a test that theory. Yeah and it's still just opening hood and slam. It didn't seem to appease this particular sounds to me is a layman connection at the solid made the sole annoyed. Doesn't this thing. I believe this vehicle users a ford starter and one of the things that you're jiggling. "But the starter motor doesn't do anything automatic transmission standard and Sometimes when i hold the key in that position after five or ten seconds suddenly the starter motor kick in and everything will be fine. Sometimes i have to turn the key back and forth a few times and one of those times the the startled come on just like everything was fine other times by have no problem at all A lot of things that could be Obviously could be the switch which I think sobs do have problems with from time to time But the easiest way to figure it out to bring it to you mechanic we'll do this reliably no It never does it whenever i take it to the deal. It's reliable in nevada test light. Okay and you have to diagnose this yourself you're going to run the test light to the solid wire on the starter and if you don't know what it is heavy mechanics show you where it is okay. And when it doesn't start you want to see if this current to the starter so if there is current getting to the starter when you turning the key to the crank position and it's not starting the culprit is the starter if it isn't then probably the switch great so have them show you where to put the test light. You'll figure it out the next time it happens and if that doesn't work then drive it up here and leave it with tom for the week. You'll figure it out. Ok well thank you very much. All right joe thanks for your call all right bye one eight eight eight car talk or one eight eight eight two seven eight two five five low. Your car talk. Hi this is scott. I'm calling from juno alaska. what's up. I am trying to figure out a eco friendly washer fluid for my windshield. We would just advertising our gluten soy based windshield washer fluid moments ago. What do you think i mean. How would that work well. It works great. it is toxic. Free a little tough seeing through the soy sauce. Now what's what's wrong with. Soap soaps ban alchemy alcohol to otherwise stuff freeze. Well this time of year. It's not gonna freeze but you gotta have some alcohol most of the time he's in alaska and what's wrong with alcohol alcohol. We don't know we know what are we. What are we have degrees in chemical engineering from mit. I don't know i do. It's completely useless to me. I pro also culpable certainly works. And it's good and in the event that you develop a zig or something you can always rub it. Rub it on those nasty insect bites. But that's probably what's in windshield washer fluid. I don't think so. I think it's methanol. Yes that's what it says on the bottle and it has a big skull-and-crossbone also does the isopropyl. Bought not to be consumed and not to be taken internally. Yeah because there's so many waterways around here. And i'll i'll these great salmon if anyone everyone's pumping methanol onto their when shields and it's getting on the streets and going out through the drains into the waterways. So boy i mean. Don't forget the only reason the alcohol is in there is to keep the the water from freezing right so we need a fluid which doesn't freeze when it gets to twenty below zero up twenty below zero something below zero. We don't have many of those fluids that i know of like a. Here's here's what. I'd like to see dough If you wanna if you wanted to use just soap and water what if you had a wash bottle you could remove every night and bring in the house. Ooh and then during the day when you were driving it you would have to have this device would have to somehow be fitted to your heating system with quick disconnect couplings so that the water that ran from the engine to the heater core in the car would have to go through this thing and would keep the water from freezing. Wow right while you were driving the car. Because it gets pretty cold in alaska. Even even though the under hood temperature may be pretty high and then you would've. Whenever you went indoors you'd have to take it would be like carrying a To pay a lunch box as well want. My thought was similar. Thought but how. 'bout mounted that bottle in the passenger compartment. I mean if we if we could arrange to mount the bottle under the dashboard somewhere. We would reshape it so it would be long and thin instead of being squat and and then i try to do and then when you turned on the heater it would not only up took sees heat up disfluent all right but if you've got frozen overnight it would it would take a while you'd have to drive to like seattle out. It's good so cold at night that it would freeze up so fast. You'd never thought out right. He needed so we can quickly disconnected and bring it indoors. Okay yeah yeah and then you might want to wrap it with one of those insulating blankets. They have on water heaters. Yeah and then you could put a build a body the neat this they would cold with some calls and you you could put briquettes went there in the passenger compartment. Yeah i could see it now. Well but i do like the approach of. I don't think we're ever going to find a fluid which is gonna work wake. Alcohol works okay. I don't think we're gonna do well. You may may be one. That's more eco friendly. Don't forget that the people who make the stuff or using alcohol because it's cheap right. Yeah well we don't necessarily have the answer here however we will help you because on our website we have a bulletin board and which usually refutes everything that we say we will put up and we will get then the great minds of the world because everyone goes to that website president. Carter go to that website. And he's a chemical engineer. You know excellent nuclear nuclear nuclear a nuclear engineer. He might have some nuclear response to this. Wow all take one little nugget. You'd never have to worry about that. You didn't want to have kids right. Yeah but see we get all that heat. We can all that heat. The engine has got to be a way to use the heat instead of using. I recommend having a quick coupling so you can put the bottle back in there. Yeah but that's a royal pain. That's he's in alaska. royal pain. Well good luck all right. Wait a minute. I got another solution. I know. Another fluid dozen freeze motorola. I minus twenty five degrees fahrenheit gasoline rate that all over the woods in fire to it. What was i thinking eight. Thanks for your call. Scott a very interesting question. He called mostly to get us into trouble. He did you know what he's well speaking of getting into trouble. Do.

"Car talk from national public radio with us. Click and clack the tap brothers and we're broadcasting this week from the religious studies department here at car talk plaza. These are allegedly according to neil jackson who sent them to us written by kids in religious school. Kids are great. The egyptians were all drowned in the desert. Afterwards moses went up on mount cyanide to get the ten amendments solomon fifteen solomon. One of david's sons had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines. I mean how often do you not really get the gist. And if you didn't really know what the words meant you substitute out known worrying our did you do exactly so i mean porcupines is fine. Jesus enunciated the golden rule which says to do one to others not to do unto others but do what already before they do one to you. Saint saint pol cavorted to christianity. He proved holy acrimony which is another name for marriage to begin marriage. Most religions teach us to have only one spouse monotony. It's good and and maybe it's all true. And i am not gonna make any editorial comment about any of them because we're not. It could get cold out of the last new none none none. I wasn't commenting on any of while. If you'd like to try to encourage my brother to make a regret you call eight eight eight car talk. That's eight eight eight two two seven eight two five five. Hello you're on car. Talk this joyce joyce from well. You won't believe it by my accent or my driving ability. But i'm originally from the boston area. Really really must've used electric shock therapy. So when did you escape from the boston area. Well if i tell you you might all come out here and drive like bus and so okay. Have you talked to your what we're out here is but you. I would have to guess that your way out in the west like maybe state of washington Well i am west west Bring the springfield springfield anyway. What what what brings you to us today. Well i have an oldsmobile. Delta eighty eight and i call it the beast and The other day. I noticed that there wasn't a puddle under my car so well see all the all the power steering fluid had leaked out so that meant to put more in. Oh that's how you tell. Well it's an interesting car. So i i went to open the hood and it wouldn't open. That's just as well. Well i want to know how you open the hood when the hood latch thing doesn't work. There's a tool you can go buy at the At sears roebuck. It's called an air. Chisel place it firmly against the front of the hood and just blast reach because there's a lot of room to their to lie down your back. What happen is the cable inside. Either at broke the release cable or awkward so rusted. Because you have an open the hood in like a year well see. It tends to overheat. When i go up the mountain so i have to open the hood when i get up to the top off so you need to do this too serious. Yeah so this is the re. This is a real jalopy. yes this thing. Yeah yeah so. It doesn't sound really that bad but you you. You can get underneath the front of the car and you can reach up and you can actually see where that cable attached to the latch. Okay and you may be able to squirt some penetrating lubricant on that. Okay and if you have an assistant tug on the mechanism inside you'll be able to see something trying to move. It would be good to like not have the engine running when you do. This should be impact and you should have your life insurance patea interest. You all that information behind us you need to. If you have an assistant pull on the lever and you'll see which way that little cable wants to move. The cable wants to move into the sheathing and you have to move that lever that it's attached to in the proper direction right and you do that. You have to actually get up there with a little hammer and lack the thing the who will poppel. But don't don't try to move the cable because that's the thing that's probably stuck. Move the lever itself and that will open the hood so soon as you feel it pop then you can crawl out. Get up and you. Then we'll be able to open the hood and then you can add policy. What you the under the door. Everything at antifreeze fill the windshield washer. The timing chain and pump and then slamming again. No the one you have an open. You can spray this. You can get something What's a good lubricant. Like liquid wrench or something like that. Okay liquid wrenches. Good all right. We might want to clean it up. I with some. Wd forty and all the junk out of it. Desks all the liquid back and forth a few times and as my brother says just drive it. Just drive it Now i have another question about my suburban all the family car It's four wheel on the fly. Now you need to settle marital dispute here. One of us says that when it's not in four wheel it's in rear wheel and the other one of us says if it's not in in four wheel it's in front of you. Do you wanna tell us. Who's what and what's what's right. Who was the bird braid said. It's front wheel. Well that that person would care to remain anonymous beulah.

"Happy knowing that. This is the kind of health i usually. Don't need into the radiator. Well yeah. I kinda screen datum like how. And i'm not really sure. If i understand his explanation he put the ring seal in the power. Steering fluid reservoir. Good him maybe. He put it in the automatic transmission. But i think he put it in the power. Steering fluid put a transmission. That's too hard to do now. Anyway he must have climbed up on the fender to do this. Because like i said i put it in the back and i didn't know what to do. I love this vehicle guy. So this is my brother and i got started. I help you mummy. I help you balmy. Words to strike. Fear into any mother's heart i help you. Mommy husband refers to this vehicle as the junk except when it snows and then he's the first one get it sure but he. He never wants to spend more than fifty dollars on a repair bill and he wants a new four wheel drive. Well how much of this automatic stuff that he Most of the bottle most of the bottle. Well that wouldn't fit in the power steering reservoir probably didn't when i checked it it looks pretty overfull. Overhaul he put half the bottle and the rest of it in his hair. Yeah yeah so what. So what does it stop burning oil a lot since then. I haven't park and left it alone. But i don't wanna tell my husband about this because he'll say let's get rid of the car. I don't wanna get rid of the car. I want to repair it. I want you to go. You haven't even started up since then. That's good that's good. Yeah i i mean we can at least undo. What's your son's name matthew. We're going to do matthews little. help me help mummy. Because get yourself your turkey baster right. You got one of those and one of those things that sucks up juice and take off the cover to the reservoir and suck out as much of that stuff as you can and replace it with real stuff real power game playing real policy. Run it and then do that again. Okay or or you could take a could have to- you don't wanna tow it to the gas station. I use the turkey basis and only cost two bucks. He left the thrown away after this. Unless you wanna make tally brown gravy. Throw away the turkey baster. Oh i thought you were talking about the fluid. Just stick to brown gravy from now on. Yeah so i didn't do any harm okay but when you when you do get this stuff out and buy another bottle and put it in the crank case where belongs. It's very unlikely that it's going to help really. Oh yeah you know what you need. You need the pellets. If you get the j. c. Whitney catalog they have the pellets in there someplace the magic pellets. Which you take out the spark plugs and you drop one pellet aspirins. Yeah start the engine up the political looking disappear and they magically coat the inside of the engine magically magic the magic of chemistry they many late the minutes to to magically plate the cylinder walls and make the diameter of the cylinder smaller to accommodate those worn out sloppy piston rings that are causing oil consumption. What do you said that do this. Are they allegedly. Well we know they do it. Except that doesn't last too long about an hour so it's not gonna work if if you really burning oil because you have bad rings and and it's really getting into the vehicle it's time to say goodbye to the wagoneer. Well you don't want your little kids to be inhaling all that won't hurt the oil won't hurt them no now toughen them up. You want to be wimps coat. The inside of their lungs. Sure and that'll be it. Just keep driving no seriously. It's not a good idea. It's not a good idea to have the kids breathing and all that go get a new phone. Your husband's right. Yeah he buying a new jeep. Four goal forest. New jeep is good. You guys are exactly opposite. usually we. My wife was the one who always wants to go out and buy stuff. And i have to hold her back. Tommy's wife is the same way cowboy can spend it. I don't spend his wife spent so much money. He's almost had to get a job. So it's rough around here. Yeah no go out and buy new jeep. He wants to buy a seventy nine wagon. No-one see you later. Good luck i one. Eight eight eight car talk or one. Eight eight eight two two seven eight two five five low. You're on car talk. Hi steve. how how're you doing. How you doing trump steve. Well i'm from new. York city won a place found so nice aimed at twice the rotten apple. What's up well I guess my. I've i'm having a philosophical problem here and that is when do you end a love affair with the money pit. I've got a nineteen seventy. Four datsun. two sixty. I've had it for Gosh i guess about seventeen years now. And i keep pouring money into it. I've spent you wouldn't believe how much money i poured into the car in the last few years and Do you play. It was driving in the new jersey turnpike and the and the engine just exploded and I've been talking to mechanics and they tell me to get the thing Repaired and cost me about four thousand dollars. If i try to fix it in about fifteen hundred dollars if i try to replace the motor and i'm in a quandary whereas quandary what instrument do you play. Steve i'm sorry you sound like a musician. Well the piano piano that how did you know that he sounds like musician. He has lyrical built in voice. You mean i mean. Are you a professional musician. We no not at all. Just a hacker. Just a hacker and you could tell that by listening to this guy's voice urine credible. What do you do for living. I work on wall street. Oh so you'll be looking for jobs. I hope you can play the piano because okay a seventy four to six long. It was a day when when i might have been able to afford to fix it. But i'm not sure that i still can. That's right car Do i know. I really don't my primary means of transportation is the subway. Yeah who is this girlfriend. That you visit Well my wife is sitting right next to me so you really don't need a car on us. His car for an occasional visit to the relatives and whatever an occasional escape to see the fall foliage. That's right that's right but but bear in mind the emotional attachment. I have to what. I got the car when i first got out of college. Yeah it's the only car i've had. Yeah yeah but everything must go. All things must pass steve. You're right yeah. All is flux put into but you must you must let go. You must let go and you must hand. You must embrace. The unknown and the unknown is by lada subway token because i think i don't think we can just tell that steve to dump a card that he's been in love with seventeen years while for the amount of money that you're going to spend to fix this plus what it costs to ensure a plus the hubcaps. "Here's my question. My father passed away a couple of months ago. And we cremated him now. He didn't leave instructions as to what he wanted done with his remains. So we buried part of them. My mother has part of them as do myself. My sister and my father's sister and my father owned a nineteen sixty two corvette question of the producer. Does anyone screen to call. What is this. i'm sorry honey. I'm sorry question. He had a sixty two corvette. And you want to know if you can never mind. You want to cremate the corporate if placing a small amount of his ashes in the gasoline taste. Should i was gonna ask that never mind. I said who would be crazy enough to want to do that in the gasoline tank. Yes to sort of. You marked my father into his car. O i sense a very very interesting idea. Yeah talk about being one with your vehicle. Exactly no one will ever have an experience like that so the question is will the car run if you do this. Well i mean i know it'll run but i don't know if it will harm the engine at all while you won't harm the engine. It will probably plug up the carburetor and in fact it probably won't get combusted at least not very much of it. Although it's all obviously just symbolic you could pretend to throw the to a dead person for god sakes his a better idea. Burn him up in the car. What's this thing about what you wanna make him. One car on mount all the tires sprinkle a little bit of his remains in each tire and put them back on. The wheel's idea i got. I got the idea for the combustion ca one of the things you could do instead of putting it in the gas tank two runs. I presume started up. Take off the air cleaner and sprinkle down to throat of the combo. That'll be really good. Some of the remains that way. It avoids the carburetor. You sort of bypassing the conduct right now where it's much less likely to do damage the carburetor but more likely to do damage to the soldiers i this is a bad idea. The tires is the idea since it's already burned that's not gonna burn again down to not have already done it. Yeah tires is a good is this. This is sick but well. That would be an appropriate place to be. Yeah it would. Just don't empty it out and have it laminated. Oh oh have it sealed up. That's a good idea. What plastic what. He can be plotted with poxy. Sure and then the you'll never be able to use the ashtray again. But why would you want to and he would be permanently in the ashtray. I want to say that this is right up there with our cream. rinse call. Yeah it is. I mean this is certainly an unusual. You may have to win the prize for unusual. This week. i like the ashtray. You can have you can take that thing to Who who do that. Who would do that parting. I look in the yellow pages under plastic. And see if there's someone that does Plastic limitation type stuff. And they see and you just bring in the ashtray with the remains in it and they can just pull the plastic over it and seal it all right man. Alternatively you can buy this stuff yourself you can go to your home center and by what's called bar top finish which is a two part which a poxy finished at us to get that. What looks like a one foot finish on on bar tops and you mix stuff together and it's very thick and you would put the ashes the ashtray and then pour the stuff on the top and it would dry and it would be in there forever right. Yeah well marnie. Thanks very very much for your most interesting. I'm sure you've opened up something new for all of our listeners. To think about this before. I mean. I'm already as you were talking. I could see my dodge dot with me looking up out of the ashtray. Thanks thanks for calling bye-bye okay. "He knows this car is a good car. But it's in. It's ugly ugly through well which leads me to ask the question. Why were these cars purchased in the first place. What did they have that drew. 'cause there weren't that many people that bought them of the few people that bought these of course have been attracted by something i of course i the answer to this. Yes because promise of reliability mutt as you may recall my wife had a seventy eight seventy eight which looked just like the eighty and the reason that people bought them in the first place was that as ugly as they are they were orders of magnitude better less ugly better bless ugly ugly end their predecessors hornet the hornet a pacer cars that amc had made throughout the seventies where you talk ugly. That was ugly. However i think the problem was that they didn't know how ugly they were. But i would be cautious. Art giving this to you. This is the son you're giving it to sixteen and and i'm afraid that he's going to be ostracized at school. He won't be able to get any date and it could therefore have repercussions to his sexual development to hall of his social skills on the other hand. If if you wanted to learn to do something like play the cello perfect car to give. Because you'll have he'll have plenty of free time or chess chess good. Does he play an instrument. Plays the tuba put tool behind. That's all right. That's good a tube of virtue ritual see virtue. Oh i don't know well. This is a this is interesting question aren't i. I mean i would be. I would be in favor of giving go for it. I'm gonna go for it to. I don't know the tube of virtuosity talking about advocacy important to me. You hear a violin cello virtuosos. But you don't hear of tube of virtual zooey an opportunity to be the first one. Well i'm gonna go for myself and you'll be the first arts sun doesn't go forward. I would give him the concord. Because i think probably it will. It will make him more aware of the instrument wondering Did tommy's first car something like this. My first car car. The tommy owns a first car. That do you know that are really ugly heap. God it was so you could say that that. Without exception every car he's acceptable asleep black beauty which is not allowed to say on public radio anymore except for that has been an ugly car and i know that's not true but the first one most certainly wasn't ugly car. My first car was a nineteen fifty. Three dodge yeah coronet. No no no no not that other funny fifty one. Fifty three metal middlebrook metal metal brooke with an ugly green. A if you wanna see ugly this is sort of like a car that would be bought either by the government. The army Yeah it was worse than army green if you're gonna worse but it was cheap was cheap and that has always been his guiding principle. Yeah there's always been his guiding principle. So he's all so you are not cover. Dad's always had ugly cars to we. I'm glad that i inherit that character. Trait know that got whoa. That's that's really awesome talking about well if your son. What's his name aren't my friend's name. Yeah sean sean drives around in this concord for a year or so. He will develop a sense of what beauty really is. Because he'll know that this isn't it no. He'll probably develop some kind of inferiority complex. I would keep them away from this thing. At all costs this car right to the crusher. Don't let him near it and via camaro ah you. Thanks for your call by. He'll have a lot more phone with the camaro he really will. He ever wanted to have fun. He's an age where he's going to be working. He's going to do his homework. You got supposed to be driving around in. The camaro is plenty of time to do his homework when he's reform school. Eight car talk. That's eight eight eight two two seven eight two five five. Hello your car. Talk lisa calling from doylestown. Pennsylvania doylestown so what's up today lisa. Well i have a An eighty two nissan maxima diesel. A wonderful really. Hey i got it for eight hundred bucks with forty two thousand original miles on it and it's driven like a charm. I really have have no problem with it until now. It's actually a nice car. Yeah except for the diesel but the diesel part right. The maximize is a nice. Cut is a rear wheel. Drive maxima But the problem now is we put a in a rebuilt starter in about a year ago. I'm trying to remember back before that. Why we put in a new starter. We must have had a problem that i don't recall. But we have since that new starters been put in slowly but surely we've got no worse and worse. Sound sound when we go to start the engine automated transmission. Now it's a stick okay It was the sound the sound is like well tell you. It sounds just like the cars already on. Oh and so this is what it does it goes. Yeah let it go and start it and it starts right up good now. Problem is as it gets colder. It makes a louder and louder sound and it takes more tries to start it up as it gets warmer it almost goes away and the more like if i do errands the first time he started the morning always does it but by the third time i've started it in the day it doesn't do it at all had one start or put in a year ago you're going with a rebuilt and then about four months ago. I took it to our local mechanic here. He took a he took the starter apart and said there is nothing wrong with the starter and he also said if it was his car he wouldn't replace it. He said it's not hurting anything. It's just having a hard time. Engaging it sounded like it is hurting something like that advice. However i think the thing is hurting is already hurt in fact the thing. That is the thing that's wrong. Doing the hurting. And what i think is wrong is that your flywheel has some chewed up teeth flywheel. The starter has a little gear of the end of recalled opinion year. And when you turn the key the action of the solemn thrust gear in this case towards the back of the car whence it engages the called the ring gear on the flywheel and the which is attached to the engine right which is bolted to the crankshaft to the ngo as the starter pinion deterrence. It turns this big gear on the flywheel the pistons go up and down and if it's above thirty. Five degrees with a diesel. The engine starts okay but somewhere along the line. You have some chipped teeth in every once in a while. The flywheel is stopping such that. Some of those chipped teeth happened to be right in line with this gear on the starter so when you turn the key to start the thing you hit these bad teeth and it goes. Yeah and another time it starts up perfectly. Okay accept it. Always starts badly in a cold always without question. Goes that you know..

Eight eight eight car talk or one. Eight eight eight two two seven eight two five. You're on car talk. This james from tacoma park maryland which shaken well. I don't actually have a problem what i'm doing. I'm moving to port. Au prince haiti. Oh you poor guy wasn't going going going to work for the government. But i'll probably be there for two years and what i what. I was reading the report for a living in port-au-prince. They said that you can't take public transportation. It's too dirty and dangerous. And i'm not allowed And that should bring a car but if you bring a car being a car with high ground clearance what i have is i have a nineteen ninety honda and i just rebuilt the engine to the tune of about two thousand dollars a about three or four months ago because that doesn't qualify what i would like to know security clean raise. The ground guarantees right. Yes nuts wanted it. We can work on that. Okay what can they do. You can't no you. You are certain vehicles kits that allow you to write who raise the clearance but it would require so much visible in order to do this. You'd have to put on much bigger tires site which would require that. You take the vendors off okay. I can do that then. They won't yeah. They won't fit under the fenders right so you'd have to raise up the whole suspension. Okay so i i would. I would abandoned the idea of taking the honda. Okay i would buy yourself a nice Sheep did you say sheep. No don't burn. Katie where i mean. I'm going to be protected. But you know my car is really you know. They say they're driving is very aggressive. And all that sorta cheap pickup truck right. Well what has happened since. I was Running this idea. Pass my family members. My sisters said well. We'll just take my car so it doesn't really make any difference what she drives because what you care something with high clearance leg of forester. She's got a little a nineteen eighty. Five jeep like c. j. or something. Oh conditioning and that it. She's only got iraq. Top is i mean. I i like wear suits and stuff and help my hair look nice. It won't know you will know and more than that you don't you don't want to differentiate yourself from everyone else there by looking good and having your hair look good and be not being all sweaty because everyone else sweating right. You want to be one of the people. True people don't wear suits where the weather is hot. Well they told me that When they win the invitation says informal. Wear that means Man yeah good luck all right. Thank you for your assistance jeep. That's perfect okay. Thanks a lot. Don't tip it over on you down. One eight eight eight car talk. That's eight eight eight two two seven eight two five five lawyer guard talk. This is wendy calling from iowa city high windy. I don't hold out too much. Hope for your solving. This might be closer to being a puzzle. Tried everything showing up. I have an eighty eight honda prelude four wheel steering cars that i love and plant forever though. That was a feature that really caught on all. Yeah i love this car except when my husband rides in it because he fogs it up. I mean he fucks it up like mushroom soup on the inside of the windows or something really now. He doesn't do this and other cars know and nobody else does this in my car. The over six feet tall. Oh heavens no little guy. Oh yeah well short and this. I can't tie it to a season. I've tried with them without the air conditioner on. I've tried the inside and outside intakes. Fresh air yeah. I've tried both all combinations. All permutations chance that he's outgassing. I can't i haven't i don't think it's diet related pink. It's breath related. He seems to have a pleasant breath and fogs up all the windows. It's matter minutes can't see a thing you can keep it off all day at folks right back up again in his car so makes no difference whether he's driving or riding a passenger. You could be sitting in the backseat. Really yeah i was. Head isn't wet or anything. I mean he's not just out of the shower and he gets in the car. I mean that would do it you know. No no so he can get into the middle of the day. Sure anytime day night anytime. And how long does it take for the fog up to occur five minutes it starts and then if even if you turn on the defrost her oh yeah well that would take care of it right. Other people doesn't with him. No it does not know how this man is serious water vapor but only in my car. Well i think it's happening in your car because the prelude is a relatively small vehicle And so if if he is emitting large amounts of water vapor it wouldn't happen in a larger vehicle which have had a larger passenger compact doesn't happen in my son's jetta bigger than how if you left the windows open. I mean if you left a window open. We've tried cracking the windows. We tried opening the skylight a little bit And that helps a little now on the fog where there's no window. Yeah you're gonna tell us more about his tests. Oh gosh well. Here's the test what it's going to tell you necessarily but it's going to tell you something unique needs a snorkel snorkels. You buy at the sporting goods store. Eat the head out the window. Yeah i like it. Because we have to determine is the source of the moisture in his lungs or is it some other part of his body in his garments. After this phone call. My problem might be solved. He might refuse to ride with me. You know you we. If we eliminate we eliminate his breath. Okay that will open up all new possibilities than we can stop talking about his clothing and his habits the next step would be. He has to ride naked first step because the snorkel do the snorkel. Okay call us back okay. And then we'll give you the next step pyrite call us back next week. Okay all right. We'll talk to you. Wendy bye okay. It's time to visit the cobwebbed innards of your mind to see if you remember last week's puzzle. i'm ready. give me some hints. "What's on your mind today. Abe well True by stony. In that i am. I like to try and cut down my commuting time. Go between work in school a lot of times. It trump You know rush hour traffic and all that yeah and I had an idea about Putting a second hornet to my truck. I like to sort of keep things moving. And you'll the kind of guy that everybody loves ya crazy as it sounds but go ahead. Lay it on us. Basically the idea is to have two independent sounding horns. Yeah it sounds like more than one cars hearkens got you. So you don't necessarily want to get one of those blasters that the semis have the guy in front who's asleep at the wheel twelve cars behind exactly it's not. It's not an obnoxious thing. I just want to keep things moving in one car honks. Everybody thinks absolutely. That's very good. Good idea you won't more importantly you need to make it sound. One of the horns has to be a little bit to make it sound like the twelfth guy back yeah blowing his horn so the horns have to have to decrease in intensity. Deploy them. And i think you're going to have to do this electrically. I mean you could do it in the old fashioned way by installing twelve different horns and having twelve different little buttons but that would be crude. But you might be a giveaway by not being able to close the hood. Somebody gave me once a a little a little box and it produced all these different. Sounds that you want so. I'm sure that it can be done electrically away you would go to have it done. I don't know and where you would get the suit of armor protect you. When he's not parties nobody will know it. Nobody will know it now except for you. Abe burqa well Actually what. I was getting like a real. I drive a little toyota truck. Yeah and i was thinking of get like a real deep american cars sounding horns. Yeah yeah and then you know the wiring and all that you could very simply do this with a little speaker and a little electric vice may have to go to. I don't know hymies on center or something. You may be able to get something radio shack. Oh i'd always going to have it. Jc witney jc. Wouldn't miss a purveyor of fine automotive products for the last hundred and seventy years. But i have to ask you this. You don't think it's rude to blow your horn at people. Don't lean on the horn. I just trying to you know. Make people aware of what you have. I mean if someone is asleep at the light and the light changes and the minute goes by and he's still reading his newspaper. Then you justified but be these people who the light turns green. And i mean we're talking about a nanosecond here the latest green and the guy behind you beep. He's on his born. Every time that happens. I purposely stalled my car and get out and ask the guys behind me. I'm sorry. was there a problem to be fair. I have driven behind and suffice it to say that you have never gotten away from a stop light. What's the big deal. Well in less than twenty or thirty seven market understand. What guy behind you the but see. I don't condone it. And i can understand why i say it's rude. If i were walking down the street in front of you. And i will walking too slowly. Would you push me. What would you yell in my ear. Hey jerk bottle fast. No you would never do that if i will. Walking on. all. I'm asking is treat me when i'm in my car the way you would treat me if i was walking down the street trip you you all try to trip. No but you know what you do when you're walking down the street and someone's going to slowly you go around the go-round him always do that. When you're stuck in traffic. What do you have to have to wait. Not forgotten how to wait. Don't forget we're not talking about waiting for hours. We're talking about seconds. If even that would add all those up like it could add up to years. It doesn't add up. I mean if you could get every single one of these people to move his but a second or two. Sooner you'd get to work could retire five years earlier you would get to work a half a minute. Suitor big deal. You know life is life. Isn't it's pretty sad glass. The may glass co. plus me because you'll never get to reverse them smashing headlines. He doesn't have any anymore he doesn't see you later. Man good electra. Three j. c. Whitney to go buy i buy one. Eight eight eight car talk. That's eight eight. Two seven eight two double five lawyer car talk. Hi. hi who's this gala calling from glastonbury. Connecticut you're going to glastonbury connecticut. I think i broke down there once. I've broken down here. Manny glastonbury about Years ago my husband. And i both bought to mitsubishi montero. Five heat for the kids four-wheel-drive something that would be safe that they could drive through the bad weather and we would feel secure. What we found is that we have one with suspicion. That is the good son. And the is the evil twin. They can possibly go wrong with that. Car seems to have happened. We've had one electrical problem after another with replaced four alternators in the last eight months. And i finally this past week. My husband and i said enough. This is if the kids can walk. We sold the car. We told everybody who looked at it. What was wrong. What had been repaired and one guy was a brave soldier. That i can handle it. I know how to fix this thing and he took off with it now. My fear is we still have one left wonder and how much inherently different new medic flaw evil genius into both of them. Yeah i would think however if the evil gene were there. It would have exhibited itself already. Did they share a playpen when they were young. These thing. i don't know if it's bad or what you're joined at the well there at absolute mirror images of each other. They're just different colors but the vehicle they were both treated the same both fed the same fuel. They're both giving the same care driven by the same people and one of them is just for. I mean it will make you crazy and the other one. So far has been okay. I would think you're out of the woods. Whatever was wrong with the bad one. The dealer couldn't figure it out. They kept saying well. it was a bum. Alternate i mean how. Many bomb alternated well my mother. Every time we go to her house us. She looks at my brother and she says how could one of you from. Oh so good and the other one so bad and then she breaks okay cat. It's not clear which one she's crying. At least she never tells us to face. And then i guess i have nothing to worry about and we can hold onto this car. You of anything to worry about. You've got the good one just like my wife got the better. She got the short end of the stick. Except you told me that you bought these for safety and and all that but this is not a very safe vehicle now. It isn't no i mean. Even though it may go in snow. I mean we could be safer than a vehicle. That doesn't go in the snow. That's exactly right. I never thought put right. I mean this thing you tempted to do crazy things. Y'all we do we do we do. This is a family show jenny. Since you're telling us that you're you're the rural whatever area of albany and you lock the keys in the car. Please careful what the story is. As i got all kinds of prurient ideas flowing around in my head. Currently legit going running separate my house keys in my car keys so i can carry. Let me and my the about to go down. We're wearing shorts. So it's getting kinda chilly. And i realized that the key i locked the car keys in his head of the house keys so we went to a house and we got a hangar. And we're trying to see the rock for the doors on the inside of the door and so we are trying to slip it in by the window like very hard to do. Well that's why and then out of nowhere. This van drives up and having to have a slim jim in the back of his car. He's just happen to have one on weekends. He steals cars and so anyway he opened the door right up. You know the day of the of the coathanger is pretty much gone. Sometimes you can manage to get the coathanger through the door. Because the the weather stripping of the door leaves enough room if you bend it and rip it to tear it a to get him but mostly windows done for. It's getting very very difficult in my. I mean in the used car. I'm sorry yeah so anyway anyway. Everything was fine until the next day when now. My daughter doesn't lock right inside the door. it looks like it's on the lock position but it's jammed. They can't do it with my hand or with the key right. You need to take the door part. Well not maybe. But somebody's door part because in his in his ardor to get the door open for you quickly. He probably bent one of the rods that runs from the from the door. Lock the real lock to the to the handle. The inside there's a there's a rod that runs across when you lock the door from the inside with your with your finger right on my always. Use my thumb thumb. You locked it with your thumb that rod pushes the lock and does the same thing that you would do if you had turned the key. And it's jammed james. Don't band or whatever it'll be easy to fix them if you can't figure out what's wrong with it when you take it apart. Take the other door part and look at that one. Then you live to pay difficult..

"I wrote it. All down did good. I was hoping you had to spend the bucks for a tape of the show. Cancel those tapes but not see tomorrow. We'll see you tomorrow. One eight eight car talk or one eight two seven eight two five five low. You're on car talk. My name is mike. I'm from Virginia we're in virginia. Mike quinton virginia power between richmond williamsburg all right near fear view fairview not south of there near williamsburg near the coast. I got I got a little problem. I got an board conversion van. My left retire keeps falling off time. I'm getting on the highway down here to ninety five picking up to sixty five miles an hour and feel a jolt and i look at my rear view. You know the outside mirror the side mirror my left retarded gone shooting sparks up passes me on the right and then i pulled off and I had a hard time getting under control. And everything and brought it back to the guy that Just just changed the brakes and he blamed him for not putting the lug nuts back on. He swore he did then. It happened again when coming home. Close to home. I was only going like ten miles an hour. So i'm back to the same guy. And he knew he put the lug nuts on and we put him on tight extra and he said there was no damage to the to. The post could use the same posts again after the second time but the lug nuts were gone. Gone so i went to The guy i originally bought it from the you know the dealer. He's a car dealer and he said my problem was i have aluminum turbine wheels and nobody should ever trust them. That we should get rid of them. So i went to a ford dealer to see if he would change the wheels for me and he told me that i was not the guy was nuts. And it wasn't a problem that someone was loosening my lug nuts and no one's listening knows listening to your lug nuts. It's very likely to be the wheels and in fact i'm hard pressed to of anything else that could be right in unless unless the studs a faulty. But it's very it's a very simple matter to change those studs. they should get replaced. But boy i. I would hate to be the one that would have to test drive. This divided theory is right. How long did after the after the happen the first time. How long did you drive first time between the first time the second time. How about between the the first time and the time they did. The brake job was that that was like two days two days two days what lasts it's only this one wheel. Yeah at most. Times is the same wheel in the left rear and now now thirty thousand miles on this and this never happened before. How long have you had the wheels however The wheels came with it. Wow whoever converted it you know whoever okay. Here's here's the test now. The fact that it has it's more likely happen on the left side of the vehicle. The wheels turning in a direction which makes the lug nuts turn counterclockwise. Which is the way you would turn them to take them off now. The fact that hasn't happened in the front you can now find out if it's the wheel. Maybe it can't find out if it's the wheel put that we switch those two wheels on the left side. No no who's gonna drive it that means if it's the wheel of left front wheel is gonna fall off. Can you get your mother auto driving. You shouldn't have said that led the is mother on land. I have vowed never to say anything bad about mothers in law. I wouldn't want to put her in that. Did you have a wheel cover on this thing when the wheel. Nuts fell off hubcap. No you can't see a hubcap you wouldn't have known we're gonna fall off. You've heard this often wrapping around. You have these fancy wheels that don't have hubcaps. Went back to him with the guy i've ordered from. He said take these turbine aluminum things off and put on old-fashioned without kathy's and i mean that's certainly one way to solve the problem. I if if i had to risk losing another wheel and you had no you had some warning you knew something was going on right when it starts right before it happened to the A flat tire. You might only have seconds warning when that happens. This is really serious mike. I mean if i cared about my life i would immediately take these wheels off and put steel wheels on it. I know what i would do. I would like to do on seven forty sevens. I drill them through in. Wire them together. Go to the junkyard. You can buy full wheels for a hundred bucks and have them mounted and take care of it because you just as bad as you. well know. Who'd like mike and do it. Soon all righty bye. Bye bye one. Eight eight eight car talk or one. Eight eight eight two two seven eight two five five low. You're on car talk. Hi this is. Mary from culver indiana. I'm mirrors in culver indiana. What's going on. well. I have a question It's more one of the husband and wife things that we'd like you to settle my husband going a lot of long road trips. We really really liked that. We like the back roads and everything and occasionally As we're driving along. We gotta make sure i say this correctly i was. I've i have said we pass an odor. But that's not what i really mean we. We encounter and odor from the outside coming into the call. Yes that's another story over so we're moving along and say like you know we pass. Maybe where a skunk has been or an industrial odor. Or you know some car. That's kind of emitting some things and my husband. Has this what. I call a screwball theory. That if he rolls down his window like immediately as soon as we smell this. That's better for everybody. Involved in it the odor will dissipate more quickly whereas that only works if the odors coming from inside the right and this isn't it we're we're not generating this odor this odor. This happens with the windows. Closed exactly rolled up and everything and he d this. Whether it's january or june he will just grin and bear it and drive fast. Get outta there. So i've always operated on this theory. That if if i wanted to i can. I delicately say if i wanted to unleash an odor of my own time to do. It is encountered some other european. Got of course. It opened the window the safe side. They'll find me what's happening but he does. And i thought oh he's the only one i mean he's brilliant that he's quirky and i thought oh he's the only one so then we were know we were driving a student someplace when we're both teachers and this happened. He rolled down the window she goes. Oh my dad. Does that all.

"Yeah that's that's a definite. I think so. Oh sure a very popular little car. Yeah they must be working on it. Thanks for calling brandon. We do for you again. Seventy-three coming you want about it. Yeah it's it's got a real wild problem It sputters on acceleration. You know if you're a stop sign and you you wanna go it sputters installs you know it will run. Fine once you get up to speed in a backfires low rpm and just recently found out. I had some friends drive behind me from eureka which is like thirteen miles south flames shooting out your tail light black smoke and flames shooting the tail. Yeah and They also said that. The sparks are falling out of the tale. A fire in the back. That's why they call it a backfire. Back yeah they said it. Looks like little tiny like blow torch. Flames shooting out of the tailpipe backfiring because the because it's missing What's missing is the ignition is missing all likelihood in other words. You're not getting a spark It every cylinder every time so certain times. The the piston comes up and compresses the mixture of gas and air and when there's no spark or insufficient spark to ignite that mixture it gets pushed out as a combustible charge into the exhaust system. Where we're meets with all the other hot gases that were just combusted. And guess what. It's hot enough to burn except now claim is in your muffler and it comes out you tailpipes. Wow is that dangerous. they're gonna catch on fire or is going to be behind you. What do you care. Yeah you'll see that. Your rear view mirror is dangerous. In fact we had a call some years ago from a guy who's pickup truck was doing a similar thing and he set the side of the road on fight. That tall grass. Yeah you could be responsible for those. Many brushfires at california's played with every summer. Surround view on the newsman. Yet your pitch will be on a milk carton. Find this man for us. I mean there could be all kinds of causes for this The most likely is that your points burned up the points of burned up. I think this thing has been seventy-three it must i replaced. I went into replace the points. And i replaced the pugs condenser. Not the condenser is replaced. The condenser replace the condenser okay. It's a pain in the butt. But you've got to replace it okay. This is the one. I think we have to push that little piece of plastic into the whole on the bottom of the distributor. You gonna take peter out to do and then breaks a falls down inside. Oh boy shorts out. A dozen car to car will never run again. Oh no but that will probably fix it all right. See a brand new good luck. Thanks guys later. Bye bye bye. Hey let me guess. You'd like to take a little break right about now. What do you think that well. You've got the door open your headphones off and your roles gets can't slip anything by you get. I will be back with a brand new puzzle in.

"So the altium battery cells <hes>. Gm and lg's the nine they've given it to the platform more than just the cells or the batteries that made into recently. They've been calling it. The ltm platform and that is going to be the foundation for all of their electric cars and thanks to a youtube channel by ray non navia. We can now check the construction process of that facility. That's going up in lewistown. Ohio a joint venture between gm and lg. Like i say according to inside hof the construction work is already done. The buildings are up the reeves on on. But you can see the buildings going up and surely there is so much still to do. But within several months they are on target to have that facility finish. There is an unhealthy obsession with watching tesla build factories and the busiest aspects of germany. Right now is probably drones above some way just outside of berlin or maybe texas facility asli. They're all the gigafactory is being built. Gm's with algae is coming along very nicely baking. It'll be out of the oven soon. And they company will install manufacturing equipment later this year. Production starts in two thousand nine hundred twenty two the spending two point three billion dollars on it. It's going to create one thousand one hundred new jobs in lordstown ohio and they're gonna make about thirty gigawatt hours annually of cells which is huge. It puts them just behind. Tesla's gigafactory in nevada. Funnily enough okay. Let's move on and on the podcast next. We're going to be talking about what's fascinating story next on the show an official look into battery safety and that's not to say that batteries are unsafe in any possible way but the american. Nhtsa nitsa is creating and a battery initiative for visas to coordinate looking at things like the research the investigations and the safety standards around battery safety. And that's a good thing because you know these are incredibly safe like the comic is themselves and the battery. Maker's is an amazing job with this. I feel so safe driving around. Evt's and you just think about because we've had cars combustion costs for hundred years. You don't think i'm driving. I'm putting my family and my baby inside a car which is carrying around litas. Some gallons of very high highly combustible liquid blows up. I mean when you look at the fire department and the fire brigade stats on cough. Is they've really coleman. And so when there's an incident of course it makes the news because they're so rat but normal 'cause burned down all the time. So i feel very safe driving a navy if you're drive already but it's really good news. The nhtsa has created an initiative to look at the kind of coordinated analysis of data investigations. When there's a crash an anon- crash event and look at diagnostics and even cybersecurity as well. That's all very important. According to the website <hes>. Techno codex this initiative nitsa that it will conduct investigations into safety related defects in vs and be a central point on battery safety. That's very very important. Lots of people are doing this. But i think it will give consumers more confidence.

Norway isn't a typical cock in terms of seeking to become the first nation to end the sale of petrol diesel.
