"I think you know re-signing Robert Quinn assuming that happens will soften the blow from Losing Jones. I do think there are a sector cowboys. Fans who like who cares it. Byron Jones is GonNa Leave. He's only got that to interception thing. I know you're not on twitter as much as I am. That is a big. You know big thing for people. People really believe he's not good because look at look at this look at You know I don't have the stats and I mean who who led to the NFL interceptions last year last year. Yeah I believe it was fun. Gilmore but I'll double check for you on Gilmore I'm going to say what eight interceptions seven interception. Something like that Point is that he had he addicts tied with Anthony Harris and today it is what they each had six. Okay and look but look at this look at how many and we can go back to last year because we look at the statistics dislike we do sacks and. I think you said this last year with the Marcus Lawrence Because I. I thought that he didn't have a down year. You're like Oh tony you know the you know he may not have all the stats but look at him double team and he's making plays and everything else but everyone else wanted to. You know they looked at the stats in like we'll demarcus lawrence had what six and a half sacks last year and you know if you look at that then you look at Byron Jones compared to Stefan Gilmore You know he had to look at the scenarios in which may be Byron. Jones had a chance to get an interception but didn't make it hands I mean so there's there's kind of this objective way you can look at it right value that but then. I think people don't don't don't really look at the fact that Byron Jones. How many passes defended. How many times did they throw at him? How much respect that. He gets in a national football. They don't look at that. They had this tunnel vision of really. Just put too much value statistics. And what he does overall for your defects right. Now I mean and people are short sighted in that There's no doubt about that in by. That's what I'm saying. Baron is he's just not thrown at and I think comparing him to demarcus Lawrence in that respect is is very very wise. I also think you know if you want to add context I mean he has two career interceptions and one of them was a hail Mary at the end of a half against James Winston So it's not like that one is even you know like he broke out or something. This is a this is a guy that they moved to safety and then they moved him back to corner so think about having the whole mental aspect of what. This dude had to go through. Because you like dude. I'm corner and now you want to move me back to safety because maybe I can cover more of Centerfield. Maybe I'm smarter. Maybe on my whole balk and I'll serve well then then you me back the corner. People don't understand as a player to build a justin that not only your confidence but just different technique and just having a change for the team and it didn't work. We quit crystal Shard. He's no longer there. Rod Marinelli an end. I think the the whole caveat to this or the whole thing that really piss a lot of fans off if he goes to someone like Philly which -ffiliated I think is. It said that they're going to be part of the sweepstakes right. Yeah so let's say he goes to Philly and he goes to Philly Egos in that system and he has six intercepts. And Everybody's Oh. We should've kept Byron Jones. Because I told you so I'm like okay. Well you're the same person sitting only two interceptions that we don't you know we're not going to miss this dude. I mean you know. Be careful what you ask for. If Byron Jones has at least two because he's got to in his tactic say that's crazy to think that when you said that when you said two career interceptions I mean that is a guy yeah. I'm sure people like this guy's going to be the highest paid defensive back in the national football man. Isn't America Beautiful? It truly is for what it's worth. I mean again. He has two career interceptions. One of them came in like I said in a Hail Mary at the end of the first half against Jameis Winston so you know kind of those easier. Nothing's easing the national football league but it's an easier thing the other interception that he had. I actually thought was a play that he misplayed I I wrote about this I this was before we did the seven five hundred so I'm picking at old wounds for some beers but This was two thousand seventeen when the cowboys were in Washington and there were thirty seconds left in the game. The cowboys at the time were up. Twenty six to nineteen so they were up by seven points with thirty seconds left in the game Washington. Had I don't remember how many times timeouts but did not have all three. Which is the important part here and Byron gets pick and so instead of going down he runs it in for a touchdown and cool man like I get it and you play defense. If you tell defensive player not described touchdown. It's probably a hard thing to do because you don't get an opportunity to do it a lot but my point was if baron goes down on the ground cowboys. Come out taking the game's over. But instead he goes and scores a touchdown and they kicked it off. And Yeah I mean you're up. Fourteen points with twenty seconds. Whatever left and you know. It's very unlikely that team is going to come back in that situation. I acknowledge that but my point is you know not the smartest possible play. You could have made enough. You Agree Yeah. I disagree with that happened. Twenty seventeen first of all you never so the philosophy. The unwritten rule is a player as the say. That you as a defensive lineman you know. It's not the most glamorous way to describe this but let's say a guy I cut you off but you go behind him and you make a play Eddie. It's for tackle for loss. Will the culture's probably going to get after your ass on the sideline but not quite as much but you know why because you made the play now on the other hand if you've got cut cut off in Iran behind you. Let's say disgusted huge chunk yards. I mean you. He'd be on the sidelines. Is Giving you the business something? You'd be like okay. Well it's on me or maybe. Even they ended up scoring touchdown. Could you got hook that? Got Your Angle. You got angled off for Byron Jones. I mean look I mean. He is a playmaker. And that's the thing about defensive backs and we always say this all the time. The reason why they play defense because they can't catch the ball. How many times do you see every defensive back and hit him in the hand like all of that's why he's not a wide receiver and that's why? I was on the ongoing joke so I don't have a problem with someone making a big play now if it would have turned out the other way Then that would have been a stupid stupid decision on his part but I never ever always give the player the benefit of the doubt if he tries to become a playmaker and it works out. Well it hadn't he'd been a dumb ass. Yeah I and for what it's worth. If you go back you watch that play. You can see Sean Lee telling him to go down so I'm just I'm just saying this has been a thing that I've I've held onto for a long time really. It's devils 2017. Man You have to let that go. Yeah Yeah but Well so it's GonNa get paid And I you know there's a lot that's going to happen over the course of the next week so as we wrap up. Let's do kind of We'll do three predictions because we're gonNA wait instead of doing the seven five. Oh on Winston extra. We're GONNA wait just so we have some free agency. I I would assume Byron will be one of the first to drop but so let's predict three things. Tony Number one does Dak Prescott have a long term deal by next week with the cowboys. Or does he have the franchise tag? I'll I'll go first. And I'll on the franchise tag going under over and under the under that he will. I think they'll have him signed a long term deal. I don't think they're that far apart. Think last time he's like thirty three thirty four mills kind of per year and I think the thing that they're getting really stuck out. I think the dachshunds along or longer deal with more guaranteed money. But when you're thirty three male I just don't see that being you know that the the thing that's going to kill the deal so I'm GONNA say they'll agree on that and also GonNa go out my other. Both pope both predicts. I think I said this. I think both Amari Cooper adapt Prescott will get their deal will get done before for agency starts. Okay when is my second one? Okay all right so you think they both have long term deal. I think backs on the tag but I do think that Amari has a long term deal by three agencies time so okay so we're symphonic on one Not On the other. And that's okay and this is the most difficult one to predict certainly but Assuming Byron Jones has a new team by the time we record the next seven five. Oh who do you think it is? I'll let you go first. I'm going with arch-rival in the NFC. I'm going to go with the eagles. Yeah listeners. Out there come on now. I mean you got to hope that the cowboys signed Byron Johnson. Because for that fact that you want Byron Jones and that's like going to the cowboys and I played Jason Garrett Jason Garrett beaten down that orchestrates shoot offense and they score forty five points on a on on the cowboys and they win. That's equivalent to this Byron jobs. Do you want Byron Jones or go the eagles and have an interception in you know have more than one one season he happens career interceptions. That being too so yeah. That's that's I think I think ended up there. See that I'll be honest. Okay that's my prediction but I'm not going to predict that right now for the purposes of this show all right. I'm GONNA use asked me to predict and you're not well I'm just going to throw throw it at different options options but I am saying is. I think you're going to be right but I'm GONNA throw it a second option just so we cast a wider net. You know what I'm saying that's all that's all I'm doing here. You'RE GONNA. You're really comfortable hitting that four iron. I'm GonNa hit this hybrid because I I know that this. It's harder to mess this hybrid on my point. So I'll say the New York giants because I think it's one of those two. I think that Byron is going to fare very well in a big market whether that's New York or Philadelphia. Yeah obviously went to uconn. So he has ties to the northeast You mentioned Jason Garrett. I know obviously. He's the offensive coordinator for the giants. But I can certainly see the fact that violence former head coaches in New York somebody who has a great relationship with being You know certainly a good thing in terms of his recruitment to New York. So I'll say the giants but either way. I think it's obvious that the seven five feels that he is going to end up In the NFC East which will suck a lot. Just you mentioned you know how people will freak out at Byron Starts Piling Interceptions. Imagine if he plays for either the giants or the Eagles and he had two interceptions off Dak Prescott in a game just think about well on thanking is a bad ritchie. He is going to be. And what a great feeling to be sitting right now thinking you know what what four days? Five days whenever free agency starts for. Today's Thursday Wednesday. It'll be next week so week from today or whatever that is I'm.

"Favorite podcasts. At you do not use the podcast APP. Let a great question Jesse. David Flax right and look. We don't know everything that went into Intel Brian Situation. You know right now. All we know is the report of the arrests but I think that I think the common fan. The average fan always looks at something like this and says well. Why can't these guys just you know if they're gonNA party do it at their house? If they're gonNA go somewhere you know. Be careful. Have a friend have dry. P those are the things I think. A lot of people say and so you know it's interesting to hear someone who's lived that life talk about how you know. Maybe you know you you certainly. I think all of you were lucky. You didn't play in an era where people could record your every movement Certainly would have been interesting but yeah I mean it's maybe would have been a little smarter too. I think really I mean you have to kind of. Don't you have to adjust with what the times and the you know the time capsule which live in and so when people say that. I mean just if you think you're just a regular regular person I mean you know you. If per person has a great job and they have a lot of money and I'm sure that doesn't really matter we. I mean everyday people make stupid decisions right just the fact that you know. If you're a bubble guy like you mentioned a special special teams guy. Made one catch a touchdown in the buffalo game which is a blowout game right then. Maybe you're you're on your on the bubble the bubble play. You cannot afford to make those type. No one can afford to make those type of mistakes but certainly if you're you know an NFL player professional athlete. It's going to be more magnified you cannot. You cannot put yourself in that situation. Now that's that's well said So looking on Wednesday and a week from now we're not this exact moment Depending on when people are listening but the point is next. Wednesday is when the new league year begins Tony so Head on out to the grocery store. Get Your Champagne. Now you get the Confetti you get the glasses that have the new league year you know what? I'm talking about And everything Because all of this bargain agreement be agreed on or they'll get something put in place. I mean there's a lot to be said before that that day so it seems right now like it is going to pass the bill proposed. Cba from the owners avenue to your anything can change But if that's the case then teams will only have one franchise tag to use. It seems like the cowboys are probably going to use that on Prescott your buddy. Ed Order reported on Tuesday. That they're making. I don't WanNA say making headway. But they're at least trying to make headway with Amari Cooper and get his deal done. It makes sense for them to get that deal done because if they're only going to have one tag to us and it needs to be used on deck than you don't. WanNa marry to become a free agent But it seems like Byron Jones it has seen for awhile. I should say is going to be a free agent and the talk. Tony is that he's GonNa get stupid. Paid Byron is going to get paid barons going to do that. Scene in breaking bad where y'all lays on the cash that's the type of pay the Barron Jones is about to get and I think that that's going to shock some people because people are GonNa say this is only got two interceptions across his career where he's going to have a palette of money and I the only Palette of money I've ever seen him in Narcos and I've never I've never actually seen that many millions but he's GonNa get his Palette of money to to have any ought to the point about the franchise tag. I think that this is a anticipation Mark Cooper. I think that'd be the safest bet as far as getting him locked up and get him a contract. And I think it's going to be easier. Because he doesn't cost as much on the CAP. And if you've got one franchise tag but the ideal situation would be to get both those done and you know one thing. I forgot when we talked about the players that they really need to focus on again. Inside we all unite. We had this. We compared you know the importance between Amari Cooper and Byron John's but we forgot about one guy that is part of that equation when it comes to the defense becoming better especially to back in. That's Robert Quinn. What are you GONNA do with Robert? Coyne gave you eleven half sack's last year. Are you going to try to work him? Because I'm not so sure. Not a when we look at Byron Johnson Robert Quinn and after I thought about it. Who WOULD YOU RATHER LOSE? I mean because you got a guy that can Russia pastern in guardless a piece of free agency to get paid but yeah Byron Jones. To me is is he. He's he's got to go out there. He's gotTa go out there and had the opportunity to to really cash in and I just don't think with the three. Four players of the cowboys are targeted to sign. I would think he would be the guy that would be the outside do well. So there's a lot here to answer the question who is a lot here. I feel like I don't know if it's Barbra handed me but I feel like one of them so in terms of WHO. I would rather lose. I mean that's I think. Obviously it's a subjective thing but this is how answer it the cowboys have a star pass rusher even if Robert Quinn is on their team. And it's still very possible that he's on the team in twenty twenty. He's not the best pass rusher on the team. I don't care how many sexy had last year I mean he's awesome but he's not better than demarcus loans. If Byron Jones is on the team he is unquestionably the best defensive back. We agree here right. What's more is if you forecast a year from now if you don't win we're doing five. Oh in two thousand twenty one on this day the cowboys unless they get any other extensions done and they have a whole lot of contracts to get done between now and then but they are looking at a situation where she was a Jordan. Lewis and your woods are all free agents next year so it is very possible that the cowboys have to replace seventy five percent of their starting secondary a year from now So Byron would certainly be a great guy to kind of have a foundation. Kind of like a demarcus Lawrence and so I think the smart play is you know between these two To Keep Byron so that you you maintain that consistency. He's you know we talk a lot about leadership. He's a great leader. He's an NFL. Pa Rep for the cowboys. I mean there's a lot to like about Byron. Obviously Robert Queens. Not going to cost as much from an overall perspective so you can make that argument So I think I would rather keep Byron Jones but that's just looking at the players. I suppose given the finances I'd probably rather keep Robert Quinn A A and I think more than anything. I think. We're starting to talk ourselves into keeping Robert Quinn. Because they're not going to keep Jones. I don't think anything any decisions has been made Where that's going to be the scenario Byron. Joe There's GonNa be a free agent but I I mean if you look at it and you look at the numbers. Yeah that would probably. If you're bet man you'd say that Byron's probably GONNA probably wants to go into free agency because I mean he's GonNa get a he's going to be there's more value on the market for him than it. Is You know him what the cowboys are. GonNa pay him. Because I think the cowboys got to be very competitive to the open market to to this point just before we started recording NFL networks. Tom Pella CEO reported that Byron Jones is expected by many teams to become the highest paid defensive back in the NFL. So the cowboys are certainly not going to pay that. Ford that whatever Fan Base Baron Jones ultimately signed for. And it's possible. He is Philadelphia Eagle or a Detroit lion the Denver broncos kind of add on this after the trade for Aj Jay but whatever fan base that is there are going to be people that say if this was so stupid he only has two career interceptions Baba but there is a lot to like about Byron Jones. But it is. I mean I do think that I don't know that the cowboys are being shortsighted. I don't think that's fair but this is what happens when you pay a running back and an off the ball linebacker a year ago you end up in a situation where now it's going to cost you a bird and and maybe and. I don't mean to you Tony. But maybe you listening. Preferred to have Zeke and Jalen Smith over Byron Jones. But there's certainly an argument against it. Well I think you have to have your cornerstone. You GotTa have you. You know the quarterback and then you know I always mention the you know. The the franchise blindside Offensive tackle man the cowboys have both of those sayings right. I mean hopefully side the long term contract which will get done but I think on defense. I think that's easily overlooked. Because you gotta pay every pay everyone else and look I think Jalen Smith for the story and everything. He's gone through great. Yeah but but you know that's that would be a great movie script and you know ever made a movie. I'm sure some people would love to watch a movie like that. Made about the Comeback Kid. But right now when you look at what they did. Last last year they pay Jalen Smith a lot of money. And you know the cowboys you know. They they pro rate and they look at this hour recap and everything that goes along with that but I think when it comes down to you know what's GonNa get you there. What's going to be? We know the Dat Prescott in four years. So you'RE GONNA pay Dak Prescott you're asking yourself to pay in the Mont but can Dak Prescott take this team to the Super Bowl. In four years can a defense. That doesn't doesn't as you mentioned some of the names that they have to. You know they had to resign. The contracts coming up that they have now in the back end in a losing Byron Jones. You're talking about losing. A lot of your your. You know your secondary is. What's that GonNa do the complexion of your defense and so the so to me if I'M GONNA lose Byron Jones? I think it's more easy for me to or easier to maybe make it up with maybe someone bringing signing like Robert Gwen. Some the sack total. And maybe they're a whole season and you know he was there last year but he was. He was suspended for what two games are. One game was hurt so deep bring him back to to make up for what you may lose in a Byron Jones. Because I always I always say I will always say this is a defensive player. The Secondary Compliments D. Line counts the secondary. If you don't have either of those and it's really hard to really help out a secondary that may be honorable different position so to me. That's that's kind of the strategy I'd look at is. I look at the saying in in the long run or maybe short-term.

"While before Christmas. Your wife went. She surprised as she got you. A brand new three would hybrid. Oh Yeah You know what I'm talking about. That three would hybrid that just. It doesn't even feel like you're swinging. It just feels like you're following that club as it moves along and it comes time to you know you're going to play a little little tournament right planet the Cowboys Pub your talents and fun to see Pat. Mahomes is going to be there at Burger King and you have to fill out your bag. You're looking at the house and you can only have fourteen clubs and you look at the four hundred and hybrid and it comes down to those and you're saying man I don't know. I don't think that you would look at that and say well. I've got to put the hybrid in there because my wife got it from me for Christmas you would say. I'm not pick the club that I know is better and I'm not saying that Byron is necessarily better but that's all I'm saying that that's how the decision should be made. You should not factor in anything else and to me. The fact that the cowboys paid a first round pick is like your wife having gotten you the club for Christmas. If that makes sense and the analogy I will give you a lot of credit for that by the way I cannot hit a three wood forearm. Better than three would stay in my bag. Subjective but look I think we could sit here and just kind of do all these different scenarios and everything in the end of the day. It's all about. Hey you know. It's all about the financial burden financial situation that the teams are in you know. Would you know how they can allocate all of the of the salary cap and the value of that and and I? I think that in look I'm with you. I don't think that that comes into play but it does. When you again the you know just the the mentality is is it yeah. We spent a first round draft. Pick for Mark Cooper but do knocked it out of the park so you know. I think that he's proven himself. Sure and you know if it comes down to Byron Jones or Marc Cooper ominous. Say if they can sign both if they can sign Amari Eneko assigned dact too long term contracts civil work I could see them franchise and Byron Jones says that's assuming they get deals done and I just you know the perfect world and that to me. That's probably fifty fifty or maybe forty sixty. I think there's a better chance of both of us. Mastering four irons and there is a cab getting long term deal done before the deadline But it is what it is lasting Today Tony this was a weird show. We went all over the place And we've talked about this a lot. We even had the super deep episode on Him. But Jason Witten Obviously has had his name. You know come up a lot in on Wednesday Tuesday It was reported on and I wasn't reported but it was just discussed on. Nfl Network that In Rappaport said it seems like Jason Wins. Only real opportunity here is going to be following Jason Garrett to the giants and I know we've talked about this but again it keeps coming up. I don't see any incentive for waiting to go to the giants I don't know if you agree and and I ask because you've been there you've you've lived the life of an NFL player. You've retired and so like if the way I view this if it came out that we wanted to play for the Patriots or wouldn't want to go play you know for the chiefs the Saints or whatever. Okay I get that right. You're clearly you know ring chasing at this point Tom. I don't blame you for that but I don't see I don't see any benefit him going to play for the jets except for the fact that he would be getting paid. You know what I mean for a job that he would be doing because it's not even like there's an opportunity they have. Evan Ingram you know I. I just that to me would be very decision for Jason Witten. Yeah I I disagree because of his role in and look I think he could you know I? I don't think he could do that. Dallas because as much as as much as Jason Witten last year said you know I'm willing to only play twenty to twenty five plays per game. Man has is burning desire to look. I still play. I still think I can play. And that's really hard to talk yourself out of that and now the only thing that really just a you know the rally factors if you get your rejected. Dallas is a you know we love you. Whatever you you'll be you know the Bob Bob Lilly the second okay. Because I I kinda see him as at Mister Cowboy Bob Lillis mis- Mister Cowboy for so long. But you know he's the modern Jason's a modern day version of that. I'm sure so. I think I think he. I think that that's the reality factors. Look look you're you're not going to be able to play in Dallas. So his I think his Montana I still have something burning inside me to play and you know I think maybe maybe that role would be different for him. Because he's not this you know polarizing figure like isn't Dallas. He's going to New York and he's getting an opportunity. I don't know why he would just do it for the damn money. I think he's got plenty of money. I think he just wants to do it because he still feels like he continued to play and look. I don't look I don't I? Don't I'm not knocking him for making that decision? Because I think you know look much. You're once you're gone you're gone and we thought he was gone two years ago. He's able to come back. I you know I I don't I don't knock any player for having that type of mentality to think that but I mean there's You know this is this riveting moment say Look Man. I can't play anymore and and I I don't seem playing next year. I you know if I had money right now. I mean if I had to make a bet right now I would say he's not going to be in the national football the APP and not even with the giants. I just don't see. How does it going to benefit the giants? All right I mean you really. I mean he's he's he's getting older. I mean he takes care of his in his body tremendously but as we mentioned on a last episode averaged per after a catch two point six yards. So I don't see much upside there. I agree that's why you know it'll be interesting to see what he ultimately does But I mean you know I get it that it's hard Because you know he's been and again that's why you've been there. He's been playing eighteenth year right. Yeah but that's just in the NFL. He's he's been playing football. I national eighteen years. And what is the thirty? Eight bordering air We'll see what happens. We're a couple of weeks outside of free agency so it is what it is Who Wins Arnold Palmer gas? That's a great question It's a it's going to be a great field this week. Gosh every time I think so. Every time I pick someone I was I Look Brooks you picked Brooks last week. And he missed the cut. I picked Tommy Fleetwood and he came. Close Yeah I was GONNA say hey good for you brother. I remember that he was close This week I'm GonNa go this Tiger Tiger's playing this week right. He is not okay. So I didn't think was. GimMe Jon. Rahm leaving Phil I believe so I will take rory. I think Roy has been knocking on the door. So I think Roy here. Yeah get to push past so good home. Patrick Reid. Is He playing this week? I don't think so but he akash man again. I need I need the world. It's a you know I'm going to the Ryder Cup this summer. And so he's going to be on the Ryder Cup team like I've you know I've made my piece of. It is what it is but you can be a stalker. No thanks anyway. Thanks for listening to us. Everybody we hope you have a great week. This was the seven five Oh back..

"A great quested David Fox show. I'll say this There are and I've said this before but there are a lot of reasons to resign. Amari Cooper Right I. I'm not saying that there isn't But for me the fact that they traded a first round pick is not one Like I don't I don't look at that and say well. They traded a first round pick for him so they have to resign him. Because I think I dream. I'M NOT SAYING THAT BRINGING BACK. Maher is a bad idea but if if the cowboys have reached this point where they're saying man if all things are equal. I don't think that they should say well. We tried to the first round pick for him so we have to bring it back. No okay well I think and I'm not to disagree with you on that because I and I understand you're you know but the thing about that is you could have said that. It's not that important. Had He not been that made a huge impact on this on the state now last year? I don't know it was kind of weird. Some of the things happened with him. I don't know if we are times. He wasn't on the field. I don't know is kind of quirky. But right I think that had he not had such an impactful Effect on the teen the fort when the cowboys were in in the tank and he came back. And all of a sudden. Mu No resurgence of his offense. Because Amari Cooper then I say okay. Yeah we yeah okay. Well we trade. It didn't work out but the dude is may mean so much this team. Yeah I mean again. I'm not diminishing the value that Amari brings. I'm simply saying that. That is not a motivation for me. The fact that they paid a first round pick to get him. Because you know I don't think again it would to say doubling down frames it badly because that's like saying mistake but I wouldn't double down just because of that now between Amari and Byron Eileen Amari but it is It is a bit. I mean it's like I'm like fifty to forty eight Mostly because last week we talked about How bucky Brooks had just mocked? Cd Land with the cowboys after the Combine Daniela Jeremiah. Also mocked CD. Lambda the cowboys. And I think it's I think there's one there's one road that is maybe easier. I guess what I'm saying. It might be easier to replace Amari as in a I think it's easier to go find a premier wide receiver in the draft. Him in the cowboys. Just found one in Michael Gallup and so I think that it. I think that that path makes some sense but I do have a hard time Byron over. He's taking Michael Gallup's a better receiver than the Mark Cooper No. I don't think that but I'm saying that you can go. You can draft good wide receivers and so. Who was the last corner outside? Let's let's look at the last. So here's the thing Michael. Gobs THE LAST RECEIVER. The cowboys drafted right. And he's very good. We agree with that okay. Who's the last corner that the couch spent a legitimate pick on? That wasn't Byron Jones. It was Chile enjoying Lewis in two thousand seventeen right so my question then to you is is Michael. Gal Who's better at their position. Michael Gallup or Cheeto joined Louis. Michael Gallup right. Yeah I think he. He showed that last year emergency. I would say that. Yeah so so. Gallop is a better receiver then either. Join our corners. So that's what I'm saying. I trust their ability to go find Receivers in the draft because they just found Michael but I think I think it's very it's a commentary situation L. R. J. When you look at Amari and Michael Gallup and last year with Randall. Cobb I mean I think I think that Amari Cooper compliments all those dudes. That's an so I think you've gotta look that way because then when you do the southern I was Michael Gallup a number one receiver and you. You know you you put him. You Know Amari Cooper on the your scenario is the if they go out and draft. Someone like CD lamb at that number seventeen or whatever pick the cowboys have okay and then in compliment with him. Then you're really going to. Then you really have to bring a new a new guy in and really just kind of grooming and and look I think Mike McCarthy is is a good coach for that. But I don't know Mark Cooper. He's good at what he does. He runs great routes and he compliments everything else and I think you. You GotTa give them credit for that. I think Byron on the other hand is is a really quality corner and teams should pay for that because that's how important a commodity. The corners are national football. But the snow I have with. This is if you go and spend money on Robert Win. And you get a better defensive lineman line and you get better pressure you can complementaries those You know a corner that may not be as good as Byron. Jones lost so now play the game. I just played with those two players. Okita is in. Your opinion is Amari Cooper who is better at their position. Amari Cooper Baron Jones. I think it's I think I'm are is a better. Receiver THAN BYRON IS A corner. Do you agree. Yes okay so I we agree. They're all I'm saying is that I think it's harder to find. Let's say that Amari is a nine out of ten right. If Emily we're making up some numbers for the purposes of this exercise. He's a nine out of ten as far as receivers go pile like seven and a half at ten. Maybe an aide at a ten as far as cornerbacks go and my point is I think it's harder to find sevens and eights corners. I think it's a little bit easier to find sevens and AIDS at receiver and so while Amari is a better player at his position than Byron Jones estimation. I think it's harder to find corners in general which is again. I Still Lean Amar. Because he's the better player but that that's why I can sort of convince myself that that path makes sense like okay. Maybe we're going to keep the lesser players so to speak in Byron Jones. But it's easier to find good receivers than it is to find corners and yeah. I agree with you. I'm a defensive dude man obviously but I just think for in my experience on teams. Is that when you really have a really good wide receiver that runs tremendous routes and in the smart and really gets open and it's hard to find a shutdown corner like a guy who's like put on an island okay. No-one rebus island or Primetime Island. Whatever the island is in the ones going to throw at him. It's hard to find those guys because those guys don't need to you know get pressure. On the quarterback they Byron Jones is not in that category. I mean he's a good player in he'll get paid and why it at the cornerback position. I think when I look at you know what you've got to have to build a franchise you've got to have a good quarterback you gotta have a blindside tack offensive tackle and you have to have great corners. Okay and the hard to find and I understand that so the point I am on my experience with with corners. It may have been a little bit more subject to an getting exploited because you didn't have a perfect situation. You're just getting pressure on quarterback. Every time I think that you if you can the guys that you already have and I think the cowboys do and have the potential to really. I GUESS. Make up the slack with some. Maybe someone might Byron Jones. I think I think that's why I think Martin means more to this to the cowboys team and I think you know the point is. Is that if you find a corner that's a seven or maybe a six Then you can complement him. With the with the Pashas rush hopefully the guys that you haven't played if that makes sense sure it does and I think that this is you know maybe with a little bit more intelligence. The discussion that the cowboys have had as opposed to dislike seven to ten conversation that we're having but my worry and I guess it really doesn't make sense or a really matter is what I should say. But my worry. Is that the cowboys you know in their debate about these two players that they listed kind of the pros and cons like you and I just did and then they said well. We gave up the first round. Pick from our so. That's the guy we have to bring back. I don't think that's the right way to go about it because at this point. That's you know that's already been spent you know what I'm saying like you don't say like you know. I don't know if I told you I was in a car accident Last weekend in Northridge Hills we went to Dallas. My wife had a church conference there. I didn't know that we're okay. We're okay thank God but so somebody just like smashed into us on the highway and so right now. I'm dealing with insurance and everything so if you were in a. Let's use a car accident as an example if you had this was not me? Believe me but if you had spent forty grand on a car and it got it got totaled or whatever are you we're looking at fixing or whatever you wouldn't say you know well. I'd rather do this in go with that car because I spent forty grand on you know like and again I did not spend forty grand on my car but you would look at it and say well that money's already been spent right now. We have to look forward. That's the only direction you have to look. And that's my point with the first round. Pick like yes that happened and that was a big price to pay. But that's that's already behind us. You know what I mean like I if you WANNA keep Amari over Byron Jones. There's a case to do that but I don't think that the the first picture be anything to do with the conversation. Well it's like it's like a house I mean you you gotTa Distress House. You put a little money in it and you sell it for more because it's got more value. Well I think I think with your trading a player first round draft pick. You'RE GONNA YOU'RE GONNA YOU'RE GONNA draft the first round draft pick because you think that they're going to potentially be a pro bowl player and be really really good a solid player in really good for quite some time and I think. That's what they got with Amari Cooper. They got a proven commodity. That came in here and is worth more than a first round draft. Pick because of what he did when he came in his first year and brought value to that and not only that the whole team. So I think I think to me. That's what you that's what you're you're risking reward is right. They're going out and making a trade him validate net and then some and I think he's done that in. Where are you going to go out and find? You can draft. 'cause he's wide receivers. May and it's a great. It's a rich draft this year for wide receivers. But I just don't think Amari Cooper you're just gonNA let him walk and go somewhere else because he because I think he's proven he's a proven commodity. I agree with that. I'll put it to you this way and I'm kind of making this analogy up as it goes along. That's that's how today today. I'm just totally free. I loved you'll you'll get this say you've had you've got a four iron in your bag that you trust you. You can hit this foreign pretty Saad. I don't know anybody that can hit a four iron solid but let's say that that's you I so you've got this foreign. You've had it for a little..

"We know some realistic expectations to you. Know what these guys are GonNa do. Once they get in the national football league it's totally different. But you know back then you know Byron to me when you watch him play. I think he's got more confident. And you mentioned a lot of teams they don't throw adding a lot In when they do I mean I I think he's. He's he's very he's he's quality. I think he He he's pretty good tackler but I think the national football league the way they throw the football and all these big receivers now which I think is trending smaller series. You GotTa have a guy that can really really sustain in the consistency of it. Because I mean these guys are going to get right minoshe not too many guys in the National Football League bitter. You're you're You don't even you don't throw that side of football. You know shutdown corner. That's what I was what I was looking for. So I think Byron again. You drafted him in. Twenty fifteen made you WanNa do you want him to enter free agency or do you want to discontinue to to move along with them and I think the biggest thing? Rj is whether you know under the salary cap and what they have and guys that they got a Contin-. Because I really think to me and you gotTa have deck too. If you WANNA try to win the Super Bowl you gotta have and I think more importantly I think you gotta have a corner like Byron Jones to to really help side the football the defense so this is kind of I. Guess the debate that the cowboys have seemingly had with themselves I mean you've got to keep Democrat like that's on question and so that being said it becomes a choice of Amari or Byron. Where do you lean? I mean if that's your you know if we're creating hypotheticals and all of a sudden RJ. And Tony. Are you know figuring out the answer all the questions I mean? Would you rather hat? If you can only have one Amari Cooper Baron Jones Mark Cooper and I in you know it's a great question Because you know with Byron You. Don't you know you mentioned a had only had two interceptions so you're like okay? Why would we want to keep do like that? That they don't have to interceptions then. You start Doomed the French part of watching the film and and really is a football person. Know that hey this is what the dudes values to our team but I think Amari without a doubt I mean first of all. Why do you try to first round draft? Pick for Mark Cooper main. You know because you need a you needed someone a good receiver number one receiver inserted So now you're professing that you're you know you're just really contradicting herself. But I mean you know I think Amari to me I. I think there's a lot more value for him on. The offense and barring has the defense with as much as I you know. I'm kind of Flimflam that TAT That's Kinda the way I see this. Play out hello. This is Jesse David Fox senior editor at vulture and I host the podcast. Good one eight podcast about jokes. "Tony Casillas Tony. Happy Holiday to you. Happy Update you saw that and I think that The spring is already here because yesterday here in Dallas. It was seventy five today. It's raining and nasty outside but man. We really haven't had any winter to talk about. I mean it's been really crazy. That have wet nice. The weather's been but I'm not I'm I'm I like spraying looking forward to but it seems to me in Texas we go straight to what we have some spraying and then we go straight to summer. So I'm okay with the still the nice temperatures when we do have a touch of of winter outside. Yeah I I mean so. Our House has a fireplace. Then I've talked about this before so like I remember when I did the first fire that I'm going to you're going to understand here But after the first fire the you know the wife was like hey you know will you? Will you cleaned the fireplace because not all that Burns off? You know what I mean like this and I said well I'll just do another fire. Why am I gonNA clean it up? If it's just GonNa get dirty again and that fire turned into one another one so over the weekend. I cleaned up what was like six fires worth of Ash and it was not fun so I kind of hope. It doesn't get cold enough to the point that a fire is necessary so that I don't have to clean it up again. You know what I mean or you've done better than I have because I. I don't really diligently cleaned that you know what I think. We've had maybe two fires this this winter because you know it is kind of something. It's it's really nice and cozy and sit around the fireplace and everything but So you've done a lot better than making me. You make me look bad but hey one thing real quick. I wanted to touch on this. Because we've been in the news and that's this krona virus and the reason I wanted to mention it is. My wife traveled to Seattle this week and so she left two days ago. I take it airport and so I ask her. So what's what's airport security? You know it'd be noticing thing different People weren't asking like that she's yeah. She noticed that so as soon as he goes. She's going to Seattle Washington right. That's our destination as soon as she gets there she lands and she sends me a text message. Oh by the way there's been five people die from the krona virus in Seattle area. And I'm like I got really surreal thinking. Are you serious? It's that close and because it's crazy now you know we're dealing with all this you know this this this disease this outbreak and it's crazy because he sends me that text message and then You know this whole epidemic with this is crazy and So they actually sends me and she's on the way home and she sent me a picture of her self with one of those mask on and I'm thanking. It's pretty surreal brother. So I you know it's the krona buyers and also this morning I you know look I i. I'm not I mean it's a serious nature okay. But this morning I was on the The stairmaster and said I'm sweating out the corona crown sweat. And you know what I mean. So it's crazy and you know. I just thought I would talk about that. 'cause it's something very serious but you know thank you go to someplace. And they're you know people are dying from this crazy. You know this crazy flu or disease or whatever it is it's just a it's just a crazy thing now. I'm in Yeah it does. It is something that's obviously dominating a lot of discussions my wife Actually right now is in Nashville Which had its own tragedy So wash. She's not in Nashville Nashville. She's in the surrounding area and she's fine. Thank God But so she had to travel. Obviously you know you're thinking about everything And we're certainly helping And wishing the best for everybody. That's dealing with this or has somebody dealing with it or know somebody. These are strenuous times. on a on a lighter note. I suppose On Tuesday Tony Got An update from the San Antonio Spurs PR. That Gregg Popovich. Going to miss the game on Tuesday night in Charlotte. I do too personal business so hopefully as well with pop as well But in his place. Tim Duncan the spurs right right. I know all the mass fans all excited about Luca and everything and that's great. He's awesome but Tim. Duncan is undefeated as a head coach in the NBA. Tony and you're right. I saw that yesterday and I hope pop. Whatever he's dealing with hope he's back on the floor soon. But yeah that's really cool is. Is the player you know. Obviously just a guy this beloved and an icon with the San Antonio Spurs and all his first year. It'd being what assistant coach for San Antonio Spurs and I land and I like the new look I liked the what are those kind of a short dreads or the the long hair. He's got going on and he looks. He Looks Pretty. Vote for you. Know what a seven footer but Yeah you rack grass to the great. Tim Duncan mention his his style. I suppose his his thing has always been you know he He's he's jeans fan. I remember in The night they put his they retired as number He made a joke because I mean he was dreading speaking because he never wants to but he talked about how he didn't wear jeans and so there was a lot of people that were wrong. So good for Timmy but So this is a weird time. Tony for the cowboys. I believe that. The off-season are I believe free agency has been extended by about a week as opposed to normal years so we have an extra week of kind of dead period you know as far as the NFL is concerned. And you know a lot of what you know. It's sort of coming out about the cowboys from the national. People are things that we've known for a while Things like while the fact that Jason. Whitten's probably not going to return to the team but the more dominant subject right now Has To do with a guy who was really never talked about during his time with the cowboys. And that's Byron Jones. It does appear And I think that that's been the most optimistic as I can be from a cowboys perspective. That he is going to be leaving. your thoughts. Byron Jones playing elsewhere. Twenty twenty kind of ambivalent about it. I think that Byron Jones that I think if he stays in Dallas it may be I know Dallas is one of one of the franchise tags maybe on obviously Dak Prescott because I want to get a long term deal but I think we're Byron Jones. You don't miss a guy until he actually leaves and I thought it was interesting because I saw a statistic and I read you know follow. Different Dallas You know instagram different publications news and everything else that goes along with that along with blogging ours. Ours a blog the boys and I saw something about the Byron Jones. She goes to leave. Alison and goes to the Baltimore Ravens in hand. What six interceptions last year and so I think everyone wanted you know Byron had to move on because he he he just was expandable. I mean people you know as far as the money cap but I think Byron Jones has done a great job. I think he's been consistent and I think that that position. Rj Be Consistent in national football league. In so I think that that you know Dallas has got a you know. They're in a position he got. Think about what we WANNA do. Byron Jones only not only leave and a walk and go somewhere else and go through free agency. I mean losing to someone like the Eagles because the eagles have made a you know sounds they're gonNA make a big run at Byron Jones and going to get paid. Now that's the thing about his Dallas WanNa under the CAP with seventy seven point four million dollars in the cap with with Daqing Amaury in Byron Jones. They're going to build a work. Those deals do they franchise Byron Jones or Mario Cooper they tried to sign Dak Prescott Prescott multi deal but I think Byron Jones is a very consistent defensive back and he's good and maybe we really haven't seen his potential under Rod Marinelli Defense because the way he does different things and really not as a pretty conservative So I think for him I think maybe the upside for Byron think is a guys enter the market but I think Dallas is. I mean that's a the they're going to be facing a lot of a lot of questions and a lot of the decisions that they're going make it. They want to really keep someone like Byron Jones. And pay him for his consistency. Yeah I mean Byron. Is You know. Everybody loves all the detractors. Love to focus on the fact that he only has two interceptions or whatever but I mean the facts are that you know. He's not thrown it. I mean because he's very good And I do so. Byron is You know people talk so much about First round picks right and how great the cowboys have done in drafting the first round. Although I I don't know like I think it's let's examine this and I. I haven't fully even thought about this. So you're going to get my full Unadulterated thought okay. Everybody looks the first. Half of last decade cowboys knocked their first round picks out the park from trump. Two thousand ten to two thousand fourteen Dez in two thousand ten tarrant 2011. Obviously Moore's clayborn twenty twelve and not the best but Chavez Frederick and Twenty Thirteen Zack Martin in twenty fourteen eighty percent of those or studs. Right and the one that is not the you know desert. Not Maybe the same stud. Same type of stuff as the offensive lineman but does is the franchise's all time leader in receiving type. Yeah so that's the first half of the decade the second half. I don't think you know it. Stacks up and again. I'm I'm kind of just putting but so twenty fifteen Barra Jones and that pick wasn't great although that's not Byron's fault. Because they screwed around. They play them at safety. You know what I mean. They know what to do. And then actually a corner so you didn't even get you know the true sort of potential of the pick because you screwed it up so 2016 Zeke Elliot and I understand. He's a fantastic player. And I'm certainly not saying anything else. But it's a running back and that that should be set right like you spent a the highest pick. Your is Zeke. And they spent it on a running back twenty seventeen Taco Charleston Super Big Time Miss Twenty eighteen late and Vandermeesch very promising player but has a very serious potential or sort of injury situation surrounding him and was something that a lot of teams took him off of their board entirely for and then two thousand nine hundred. They obviously didn't have a first-round pick because remark cooper so but point is the second half of that is Kinda you know you got to kind of convince yourself that it was great. You know what I mean like. It's not it's not like the cowboys are really recently knocking. These first round picks out of the park. Yeah and and I think you know the Taco Charlton. That was definitely a bus pick and I remember. They wanted to defensive Lineman so bad in Russia and we. We saw how that turned out in the Byron. Jones I'M GONNA. I'm I'M GONNA blame the maybe the the the inability for them to have someone in the back in a safety because they really didn't have anyone really searching for someone a ball Hawk back there and I don't know what the experiment was to move him back there but it worked out where Byron was was definitely a great corner a very quality corner But that's the thing with the first round draft picks That's who knows You do all your due diligence you rate these dudes and you know. Hopefully they'll They'll work out and live up to whatever they rated B As a first round draft pick in elegant Maurice clayborn which to me I thought Maurice come you know coming from. Lsu mean he would be a star in the national football league. We saw how that he didn't adapt to that so super bowl champ give him some just WANNA super bowl. I'm sorry that's my bed. That late into the right place at the right time share. You know it's hard. I mean you know that's one thing about when you go through these all these the valuations in the COMBI and everything else that goes along with that..
Cowboys may use both tags on Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper
"The final year specifies that each of the NFL's thirty two teams can use both the franchise and transition tags this particular offseason that historic guarantee. If you don't know what that is you know franchise in transition tags in general I mean we. We have all sorts of information if you really want to understand the depths of them but in general the franchise and transition tag are ways that NFL teams can protect players that are set to be free agents. If you don't WanNA player to hit free agency you don't want me hit the open market. Bam you slapped a franchise or transition tag on them and typically generally only one is available to each NFL team so you have to pick which player you want to place a franchise tag on right or transition. Whatever the movie and so the fact that all. Nfl teams would be able to utilize both of them. This offseason really served as an incredible asset for the cowboys wrote about this last year. We wrote about this in March. Nineteen how we talked about then. Hey next offseason. The cowboys could have this really awesome tidbit in the that was the title of the article. That could really help them. Because of the cowboys find themselves in a position and we we kind of forecast this year ago where they have three big players that new contract extensions that are set to be true free agents Dak Prescott Amari Cooper and Byron Jones. You knew that and so while you can shake combination however you want in all likelihood the Dallas cowboys were going to Franchise Tag Prescott because it seems incredibly unlikely that deal done before that happens. Before the franchise tag deadline and then they were going to place the transition tag on either Amari Cooper or Byron Jones. Whoever you believe more likely personally I believe it was Amari Cooper but that would prevent both of those players from hitting the open market. Which means the cowboys could protect them. That's a big deal in. It seems like in this again. My personal opinion and and other people it'd be to share these thoughts and certainly a lot of our readers and commenters and listeners but a lot of people had kind of sort of made the assumption that the cowboys have accepted that they're going to lose Byron Jones. And you know what I think. I think I speak for all of us. That are listening. Here we're all gathered around the campfire. You know what if the cowboys is Byron? Jones not ideal but at least they have Dakhil these they have. They can figure this out. Maybe they spend their first round. Pick on cornerback. Whatever not trying to get to far into those weeds but the ability to keep both deck and Amari was and is a gigantic advantage. That the cowboys have going for them. How ever if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached in so far again at the time of this recording. We have the half that the owners have to comply with if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached it will essentially rendered the ability for teams to use both tags moot and they will revert to normal circumstances where there can only place one tag on one player. Now if you have not out by now you need to know that this hypothetical world which is I would say somewhat imminent in somewhat inevitable based on the rates that the collective bargaining agreement is happening and again as we sit on Thursday night. There's so many players kind of tweeting that they don't like the new. Cba proposal and whatnot so there could be some back and forth but if this is finalized before free agency and there's still a couple of weeks and those are going to be very important weeks then. Dak Prescott has all of the leverage in the world and all of the leverage in the world and we touched on this at the end of Thursday's episode because if that's the case and you and I were representing Dak Prescott. Then guess. What our point in our proposal to Jerry Jones Stephen Jones in the cowboys organization? Hey Dude if you don't if you don't get a deal done with us if you don't give deck all the money's basically you're going to have to tag them we all know that and if you tag back guess what you cannot tag anybody else if you tag back. Guess what. Amari Cooper and Byron Jones are going to be true free agents. You're going to be competing with the market for them. That is not ideal and other cowboys went from a world where they were probably going to lose one of the two. Probably going to be Byron Jones right to now that could potentially lose both of them which which would be a complete and utter disaster. And you know you can. You can play hindsight's twenty twenty but if the cowboys had just up to their contract offer to Dak Prescott Uruguay. I mean. We're talking thirty. Three thirty four million dollars per year. Everybody freaked out about that last year. That would look like such a bargain out. That's what happens with these deals. We've talked about that Matt Ryan to use thirty million dollars annually. Everybody freaked out now. That looks super cheap. And if the cowboys had done that they would have the ability to use the franchise tag on either Amari Cooper or Byron Jones win this ultimate sort of hypothetical becomes a reality and they would theoretically only lose one. Maybe not even either. So now the cowboys win till the eleventh hour is going to cost them in a literal financial sense where they're gonNA have to pay Dak Prescott more money and it could cost them in the capacity that they are now going to lose Byron Jones. And maybe even Amari Cooper now I should say that there is a a ray of hope. I suppose because you know look you may think this and I don't mean new but I mean I mean other person the other person here my think Jerry Jones is just. You know the cowboys. They don't know what they're doing. They're messing up. But there is a possibility. Because Jerry Jones is typically a big proponent for things like this the specialty. Nfl adding another wildcard round and round and other wildcard teams. A seventeenth game that is upping the value for every NFL owner. Jerry Jones is obviously very involved when I was on. Espn San Antonio on Thursday. We head John Maclean from the Houston Chronicle legendary. Nfl reporter one of the best. Ever do it and I John. I said look you know. Is it possible? The Jerry Jones kind of knew that this was coming that he was going to lose his ability to use both tags and somewhat prepared. Here's John Maclean said on. Espn Antonio John. You mentioned the The franchise transition tag loophole. That may be filled up and unavailable to the cowboys. Now maybe I'm giving Jerry Jones and co a little bit too much of the benefit of the doubt here. But in your estimation do you think that they you know Jerry Jones at least and we don't know the way the votes win but that he would seemingly be at the very least somewhat in support of this which would negate the ability to tag to players if he did not have a plan in place to at the very least keep one or two of these. You know high price three free agents. They have Adak Amari. I'm Byron Jones before the Franchise. Tag deadline that that's a great point. Jerry Jones. One of the movers and shakers in driving this agreement and even though it could hurt him. But I think Jerry all along you can't keep everybody I expect them to Cape Prescott and probably Cooper if Byron Jones those on the market. He's got a chance to be is defensive defensive back in yesterday I think teams are going to line up to give him a record-breaking deal. I don't think they would do that. With the Mario Cooper. There's too many good receivers. It's a great year for receivers coming out the draft. It's a good year for corners. If you don't mean Horn and the top after the first round so say they let Burne Jones go say the replacing with a cheaper free agent or they go after a corner in the draft and they can even train them they might have their pick of all of them no big deal John Maclean said it was a great point no big deal deal no big deal but anyway I think that if you're looking again if you're trying to be positive trying to be optimistic. I think there are two things to note one is that this is not probably not a surprise to cut the cowboys. Brass right like they had to have known that the collective bargaining agreement could be You know a a new one could be struck and therefore the ability that they were potentially leaning on to utilize both tags would be rendered moods and so they had to potentially be prepared for that. Maybe they all prepared for that. Maybe the preparedness is the preparedness to lose both Byron Jones in Amari Cooper. Who knows the other thing is that Adam schefter head tweet about this where he said Some something to the effect of if there's a new CBA expect a flurry of roster moves. And it's possible that you know we. We've heard so much about how different players in different guys and especially quarterbacks are awaiting the new CBA strike new contracts because they want a piece of whatever. The new percentages that players are going to get and whatnot and so we'll see so it also is possible that maybe the deal lanes right after the new. "All. The podcast feeds all over espionage. While we're there we're going to have a great time and hopefully bringing some fun stuff make you feel like you're there as well. The Dallas cowboys will not be there air. And you know what the San Francisco Forty niners. They might win all right. They might win the Super Bowl win their sixth Lombardi but they won't win the term boys that belongs to the Dallas Cowboys. Oh boy all right. That's right the boy's name belongs to the cowboys and you know what they can't take it from us. It's like You know how to say. They can't take this todd away from us no matter what we do. You can't chanted hot boys because it's trademarked but anyway Wednesday was an interesting day as the off season. Rolls on this senior bowl. You so you know it's Pro Bowl we've you too. I suppose Jalen Smith you know doing the pro bowl rounds. I tweeted out a video. He was hanging out with Philadelphia Eagles. Center Jason Kelsey and kind of posted a video. where he he said? I'm sick of playing against this guy. Stop trying to block. It was really fine. We've talked about this before here to Jalen takes a lot of heat on on social media but I thought that was a cool video really. Did I thought that was fun. And that's that's what the pro bowl is you get a chance to see these guys who obviously play on different teams. Get to come together and interact so that was kind of cool but Wednesday at the senior bowl so we saw Tuesday. Stephen Jones spoke and Steven Jones had the comment. That everybody Kinda I jumped onto. Where Dak Prescott is the team's top off season priority and Amari Cooper is number two on that list? Well Wednesday was will mcclay. mclane turn to hit the media tour in Dallas Cowboys Vice President. Oh yeah that's right. He's got a huge title. He's The Dallas how is vice president of player personnel. And if you don't know what that means is not the most important thing in the world what it basically means. If you're a new around here welcome you know because I did it. I'm still kind of new in the world of soccer for example you know what nobody even told me that when you become a soccer fan the life is pain all right. Life is just full of pain when you're Manchester the united supporter like I am wins. Day was a terrible day for my reds however it was a great day for Las Blanco's Real Madrid got their big dub sordid. Oh did you vent this. So not all is terrible but You Know Manchester United. Let's get it together. Man You on the tables just there. It was just anywhere and anyway I got distracted back but so if you're new around here will mcclay is the guy. He's he's the draft guy. He's the guy if you just want sort of simple terms. He's the guy that heads the Dallas cowboys draft process the gadget shops for the groceries. If you will. And that's not a pun. We'll mcclay is the guy kind of puts together the package that the cowboys ultimately utilize when it comes to the draft. He's been doing this since two thousand fourteen every other year you know he does such a great job that somebody wants to interview him to be their general manager. Jerry Jones you know kind of You know glosses up. The glass on his door gives them a new title a pay raise whatever and keeps him in town. He is essentially the couch. General Manager Without Having that actual title now we'll mcclay spoke for about eleven minutes and we live in such fantastic times here in the year. Two Thousand Twenty. Where all these twits of interviews are available in the Mothership Dallas cowboys dot com to such a great job putting all this content out for the whole world to see so head on over to the Dallas Cowboys Youtube Channel? Or you can check out. I'm pretty sure it's probably on the Dallas cowboys APP. The video of mcclay talking that the senior bowl and there are three things he said and kind of address that I think are important. I also wrote about this. This went out late Wednesday night. The first thing is obvious but it needs to be said. The first thing is that a new coaching regime is not going to really change. The process process of the Dallas Cowboys. Obviously will mcclay worked really hand in hand with Jason Go and his staff for a long time. And when when you do that you know you know how it is. I don't know how long you've worked at your your job or how long you've been in your school or how long you've known your circle of friends you get to know people you'll know their tendencies their lives and their dislikes etc.. And we'll mcclay Ryan Jason Garrett those two nucleus went back a long way and so. It's different for McLean I right. I mean he's been shopping to stick with the analogy here for the groceries for the same chef for for a long time. And you know. I watched the show chef on Netflix. And the movie so I know what goes into being chef and sometimes you know some shafts. They like certain ingredients gradients but sometimes other chassis no salon. Show on its launcher. Give me some Reagan. Oh give me some. I don't know what else is green. Give me some chopped up celery. This analogy went really far In a place that I wasn't mentally prepared for I guess it's been a busy week And by the way you.

Had this jolts had respects this guy up in the flat short probably respected him a little too much in that situation that long-yardage golf dropped right? Over the top. Drop the right? The whole perfect throws Rams team that came into tonight's game one hundred and fifteen explosive plays on average over seven per game. And they pretty much hit their average already here tonight here to give back to the left. Forty five forty the near powdery, Jeff he runs an out of bounds. And it's a I doubt Kerry girly that one just short of that explosive plays number twenty that one goes for seventeen and they're down to the Dallas twenty nine and another first down puts girly at one hundred four yards already on the night on just twelve carries. Byron Jones checking out of the game. Reno's now motions over to the left single packs. Sick early gets it again running. Andrew fitting check in Anderson. Lasted from behind by Randy, Gregory, Jordan Lewis there to stack them up. Six yards on a Carey though. Boy, what a pickup defined CJ Anderson have this late in the season. We're going into the playoffs. Heidi hymns? Witness protection. Yeah. Seconded four at the Dallas Twenty-three Rams working, right? The left leading twenty two seven and threatening. For more Anderson with hands extended knock sure what the play call is. You can understand. He's only been part of the system for about three and a half weeks spins off the initial contact their from salon read stacked up after about a yard and a half. Well, the Rams now doing to the Cowboys was the Cowboys have done to so many teams in the second half of the season investors. No gain in yardage, pushing the sticks. Now, third three. They've done been very effective on third down two out of five pickup. So far cowboy. Five thirty three at the Dallas twenty two fall spotted on the far side of hash to receive the nearside inside the numbers. Now. It's what's emotion left to right. On. And I believe Randy Gregory may have gotten their first. They were faking the jet sweep to Robert woods it popped off a his belly onto the turf. But it does look as though Gough was able to get back on it. The Cowboys is a big one MRI huge opportunity there plot they get to stop. And so great Zehra line who missed the sixty three yard attempt to close the half comes on here to attempt a forty four yard spotted farside half. Johnny Hecker the holder. Here's the snap. And it is good. The Rams get points on the board their first off. It's a series of the third and leading what the three seven over the Cowboys play here in the third quarter time out on the field. And it was interesting because Kyle fuller is is the better player within the context of Chicago's defense. So I got all those interceptions. He's very good off coverage plane was help. But Byron Jones is the one who creates the context of Dallas his defense because he can do the matchup stuff and that gives them. Amanda, Amanda, mention that you Kogyo doesn't have. So I just thought Jones was more valuable guy. That's a lot of explanation for a quick patriots. Question. Isn't it? It was just a yes. Or no, Stefan Gilmore on their all pro. And the answer was yes, Keenan Allen can move around does Gilmore move around with him. Would it would you travel with Alan if Alan goes into the slot? I think he would I go Moore's done that before. And he told me last year that he thinks it's easier to defend in the slot than outside because he thinks there's more help around you. I said, well, what about the receiver has a two way go, but he feels there's help on both sides you versus outside Uley have helped to one site. You know, he's very good wherever he plays. By the way, what I had that conversation with Gilmore last year. He was describing his wedding and the guys in his wedding. And it's a bunch of South Carolina Gamecocks gilmer went. Yeah. So I would say friend of the program Byron Jones back here. Now, the Dallas Cowboys however barn. Rich next. Do you bet what's gotten into your defense bar Jones? Not making be playing a lot of young guys across the board are front seventy something special corner. Sometime, look inward and see those guys going at really special to see young guys stepping up and making huge plays defense is about taking the ball the way making your hits making your fits. Well, what are you seeing from that front seven Byron physicality guys have high energy guys who have high f- when you're Russian the patch? Hit anyone in back gonna come through the whole. So I feel comfortable with guys on an side. And then what DeMarcus Lawrence was picking up. It certainly seemed like the rest of the team was putting it down on drew Brees and the saints. What what did he have to say this week to the media? We heard it. What was he saying in the in the locker room? I imagine it something similar, and perhaps even less say for work. Yeah. He was all fired up, man. And that's just a that's the person. You haven't lost since then wh-what switch got flipped. What conversation was had? What was what was going on that that has led to this Byron? I think I think the guys coaches staff kind of understood at that point. Okay, it and there's no more room for error. You can't contain aloof. I expect ability to play in he worked so hard throughout the all knowing people real people don't really understand how long the process is preparing to get ready for season and to be at that point and understanding. But when entertain you wanna really get going assembly where these games really matter. Good job at kind of understanding that and taking that on board with us and not looking back, man. We're trying to win some more games. When you say a message being sent from coaching Steph. How much is does that come from your head coach Jason Garrett? I think one thing he's really good at motivating the players, and you find different ways to do not just sitting up and talking videos speakers, he draws a lot of different areas to kind of motivate us, and that's what he's really been great at. And when when the metric is across like that. And you can see the way that we're playing that's fine of an effective leader. And that's what he's been doing anymore. "Obviously, Byron Jones had a pick six in my remember that we talked about that blog on the boys dot com. Good times Byron Jones had a pick six in Washington. Last year. Byron Jones has been balling out of his mind. Pro football focus released their grades for cornerback so far through six weeks of the NFL season. And guess who's number one? All right. Now, by the way, Patrick Peterson, number five on this list, I know that there's been talk about him being traded by the cardinals. That'll be really interesting to see wherever he ends up. Desmond king. The second before BreX Callahan number three, prince amukamara haven't an eye season with the Chicago Bears and number two, but Byron Jones. And again, these grades are a little finicky. People have their their pros and cons continent, concert, pro football focus, but Byron Jones graded as. The best cornerback so far in the NFL this season, the only player with a grade over ninety ninety point five as you can see if you're watching Joe alive. First place is that good? Last time I checked first place is is pretty awesome. Byron Jones again, has been balling and all credit for this really goes to the Cowboys coaching staff specifically to Chris Rashard I think who sort of championed the cause of getting Byron Jones over the cornerback after playing safety for the last few seasons but Byron Jones, we knew this all along, you know, marquees Goodwin the San Francisco forty Niners wide receiver had Olympic themed celebration. And then I felt boundaries touchdown Byron Jones, not necessarily an Olympia, but certainly supreme athlete. We've known that for a long time now and you think about that system, how Ranji is how fast is how athletes is everything that he can do. He was built to play cornerback a wonder why he wasn't playing at all along. But he is playing at an elite level. And the only guy that is really lost two and not even really lost to that much was the Andre Hopkins in Houston is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. So Byron Jones is just playing at an incredible level, and I really really good for the Cowboys to see their top cornerback playing. Well, you know, we all kind of thought that she'd obey who's day was gonna come into this season and be the guy was going to be v. dominating corner that maybe Byron would be playing catch-up. You know, Byron even talked about this training camp, how a lot of times he has to top the Cheeto has to ask questions and they learning from each other because she has technically been playing corner longer than Byron has. When you consider the Byron was playing safety for so long, but Byron has come in and become the top cornerback on the Dallas Cowboys. It's weird. You know, we're at this place where the Cowboys have this elite defense and these great linebackers. These great pass rushers and the Cowboys have one of the best Cornerbacks in the NFL. When was the last time that was, you know. That was true, very, very, very, very nice to see the Cowboys having Byron Jones playing so well, all this all this greatness last week, specifically with the Cowboys in the Jacksonville, Jaguars four to seven leads to an inflation in confidence. And we've been tracking confidence all season long over Espy nation with a handy dandy tool called fan pulse. And you look at this. If you're watching those live, you can see our graph Cowboys. Confidence has risen after every win this season. It's dipped after every loss kind of the way things tend to go in the world of sports. But the Cowboys had the fourth largest bounceback this week. The Cowboys fans, I should say are twenty six percent more confident this week than they were last week and last week after the loss of the Houston Texans, the Cowboys were at a season low five percent when it came to their confidence in the future of their team, the direction of their team as we wanted in the poll avocados fans. It's kind of good and you look at this. I mean, they're not quite at their season high. The highest the Cowboys have ever felt in terms of confidence this season was before it began, but they're climbing and I think that I think that that's interesting to examine. I think that that's interesting. The note when you look at the Cowboys or three and three, they have not been on the plus side..

I didn't see that. No, no, no. If you look at the way they play cover three, you know you've own -able made. You got a third of the field. He's got midfield safety already feel the other gun. No, the third of the field that's the way you play. So it's going to be very hard. How many times did you see? Richard Sherman get beat because he knows where he's vulnerable engines, don't get beat the. We keep everything in front of us. We make you nickel and dime your way down veal. We'll be just say, woozy turning into Richard Sherman, see that you see why that was. I think you're saying. Of the side. You see him get beat room. Wow. So Cam Newton's offense in the second half once defense got in sync in rhythm. He had a grant toll a seventy four second-half yards and all of a sudden he lied just couldn't move at all except for the last ditch touchdown pass. So I think my defense is going to keep my team afloat. I think my defense is gonna make my team with Dak Prescott generating all the guys had three hundred yards. You guys didn't cross midfield last week. I keep talking about the second half what? What Cam didn't do? What about what you guys didn't do you had even in the first half been KM had in the second half would you want to mention that you wanna talk about that? We just played two really good defenses and we wanted one wanted. What they want. And guess what? So are the two other teams in my division, the eagles and the Redskins are one in one in the giants are too. So we're tied for first and here we come and I'm pretty sure today we are going to re-sign as I brought up last week and was campaigning for Bryce Butler. My man, Brice Butler will be added to the Cowboys roster. I wouldn't mind them going to get Josh Gordon. We'll talk about Josh Gordon a little later in Tampa. The books why I need to know. I don't know. You know, you know. Exactly. I hope so come up Patrick. Oh, you need fits year root for by Rupa metric economy. Greg lookalike really yet a kick dirt on. All I know is enjoy if you have one on the chin that was the real now. I didn't. I didn't know alive with this washed. I'm till he's stone washed. I'm talking at y ou. I mean, I'm looking for real run himself into sacks. I mean, the running back is blocking for him and he's blocking. He's go, put. All Eli has to do skill. Baylor is step up inside then moved to his right tries to roll ally. No, you not that lead a foot. Wow, you doing Dan tacos going to be making a lot of talk. With you, you'll be making a lot of taco once that last forget once that last, okay, he's not what he got his one segment issues out of the way. Really. They don't get a second the next two games better case do he don't get a second next two games in the next two days, two games. Taco chart. I want an easy one last night. I'm back to digits. I'm not gonna get it back. We'll get him back. I don't even know if he's gonna get to play that much. Once Randy Gregory comes because Randy Gregory, although he the first round pick, he li- would have gone down twelve times last night. What was Troy? Aikman's record. I think it was twelve or. When you put about owning. Take from the Cowboys you play, who you play you on the schedule, a lot from them? No, no, no, no, no..
