"And what is happening to Jason in his own career at this point? Well, Jason Kelsey is being drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles by head coach Andy Reid. So all along, Jason Kelce is always set this road map for how to succeed in life and Travis has always seen that. Sometimes he's veered off the path a little bit, but when he needs to get back on the straight and narrow, all he has to do is look to Jason. And I'm sure for Travis to see Jason be drafted, drafted by a great organization like the eagles, a great head coach, Andy Reid. That was something that he also aspired to do. So Travis really only started playing tight end, Lisa as a junior in college, which is utterly insane given everything he's accomplished since then. How quickly did he learn the position? Quickly, that was one of the things when Butch Jones brought him back onto the team. He said, look, we don't need a quarterback anymore. He said, I don't need a quarterback. And I think you'd be a heck of a tight end. Everyone sees your athletic ability and we think you'd be awesome tight end for us if you want to try and earn a scholarship of tight end. And at that point, I was like, yeah, I could care less with position I play right now. He was just so happy to be back on the team. Like, he probably would have been the place kicker if they'd asked him to. You know, look at him. He is a prototypical tight end. Yes. With frozen to Kelsey, Kelsey's gonna score. 47 yards. So he took to it like a duck to water, said all kinds of records. Kelsey, the big tight end with the game's biggest play in three yards. But there were these questions still presumably from scouts about Travis character wise after all that stuff. Of course, it was just a couple of years removed from being kicked off of a division one program. So of course there were questions about his character, whether he's going to be committed to a protein or whether he's just going to be this happy go lucky guy getting into trouble all the time. There were still some questions in the air and the red flag of getting suspended. So I had to answer that question. So I want to fast forward to the 2012 draft now because Travis and Jason and the rest of the family, they're all sitting there hoping that Travis name gets called. But they don't know when. So what happens that night? Well, they don't hear his name called in the first couple of rounds and Travis is pretty salty about that. What the heck? Is going on? Like, why can't a team just take a chance on me? He says he's still remembers hearing the names of the other tight ends who were drafted ahead of him. And I mean, he knew the reason that teams had questions about his character. But he finally did hear his

"It was cool. Yeah, I mean, that's a guy I've looked up to. My family is huge sense of fans. I was born in Knoxville. So we've liked paid Manning and I've been a fan since I was since I was a baby, so I could even walk. So getting to meet him and now we're actually in the same marketing agency. So we've crossed paths multiple times, and even last season I'd talk to him, just get some advice from him. Obviously, he had a similar rookie season, just ups and downs, some struggles. So I talked to him and he got some great inside and it's cool to be able to build that relationship now and, you know, as a kid, I would never have thought that would be that would happen. Wait, how did the balls not sign you? Well, it was an interesting time in Tennessee football. I think at that point it was they had a couple different head coaches. It was Butch Jones was the one that recruited me. So I ended up they were up there about it ended up not assigned to do that. They hadn't turned the corner yet. You should be a senator. You know that? You've got some. Politically correct, like you know what to say, you know, you're not going to be overly critical. You just say nice things. It's trying to throw anybody under the bus over here. No, no. But that doesn't make for good talk radio, just saying. I know. That's what I said to our media, our media people here. I'm like, you guys probably hate when I come up here. I'm like a broken record. You guys don't get anything to write any articles about and never in the headlines. It's okay. I'm fine with it. I'm fine with it too. Hey, congrats on the win yesterday. Thanks for joining us as always. We appreciate it. I appreciate you, Dan. Thank you. Jordan, man. Thank you. So Trevor Lawrence, Jags quarterback, and through for three 21, three touchdowns and went against the right. You could tell when I, you know, I was gonna go with urban Meyer, but I thought, you know, let me wait a little while. Well, don't want to lead with it. You know, the one thing I would say about him, then we'll take a break, is that it's hard enough to play that position as a rookie. Now he's got a deal with a coach, the situation, every press conference, he was answering for his coach it felt like. And I felt bad for him. Usually it's the other way around where the coach is answering for a quarterback who's struggling. Yeah, it's like he's going through his rookie year as a quarterback and has to be the adult in the room. Yes. You know what I mean? I'm like, okay, and now you just be the adult here, hold everything down for the rest of the season, please. Wait a minute, I gotta talk about what? Wait, they're gonna ask me about what? And I thought he handled it extremely well. And it's had a pretty good year. All right, well, take a break. More phone calls coming up. Best and worst of the weekend.

"Tar's great to say hi to Adam sparks, who covers the vols. And I was joking about what a cool job covering the walls can be. It's actually, it is right now. It's not always. It is right now. I'm still suspending disbelief a little bit that this game is set up in the way that it is. You know, we knew this team would be competitive this year. This isn't competitive. If you took sort of like an NCAA tournament and took the two teams beside each other and it was a blond draw and you just saw how they matched up on paper, Tennessee looks pretty good coming into this game. You have to get over the losing 15 in a row for you to think that Tennessee doesn't have a shot in this game. And we were talking to a player earlier in they talk about the positivity and the oneness for Josh hyper and all the things that sound cliche, although here it does sound real. I mean, I heard grant earlier talk about the culture and the buy in and all these things. And he knows that better than I do, obviously. Josh apple's winning because of offense. I mean, sometimes we don't want to say it's on the field. It's all these other intangible things, but he's got the best offense in the country right now. And the thing is, Tennessee has been Butch Jones had a couple of good years, but Tennessee was not the best at a thing. And it's been a long, long time since Tennessee was the best at a thing. Philip fulmer had the best quarterback there for a while. Best wide receivers for a while. Their national title team was a phenomenal defense. But it's kind of been just like C++ B minus even in the better years. And right now they have the best offense in the country and being the best at anything, you know, can get you pretty far and it can give you some little bit of swagger going into this game. And it does seem like there is. And I'll go back three weeks because it seemed like even though we now have seen a little bit more Florida, that was you had to get over that hill. What did that win that exhale afterwards do for this program? I mean, it's a little different. I mean, the thing is, some players don't even know about those things until you bring them up. You've lost 15 in a row to Alabama. Is that right? I didn't know that. You know, sometimes we forget that because we can't all these games and we have a history with this game. And some of them were three years old when that absolutely, yeah. I think there's a distinct difference between the Florida game and this game because Florida seemed like a curse, like a jinx. Right. Because there were even years when Florida was mediocre in Tennessee would lose in games that they should have won. Alabama makes more sense. You're beating Alabama, the Nick Saban came in, and then you lost to Alabama. It's completely explainable. Just about everybody lose to save and so where there was maybe some anxiety I think going into the Florida game. I think this is more excitement. I think there's more of a sense of opportunity in this game. And in terms of just what you sense because there are a lot of people who think all this buzz and I was at the two different airports this morning, one in Alabama, one else where and it's the same. Man, that place is going to be, but I watched the game a few weeks ago. It looks like it was pretty crazy for the Florida game. Yeah, I mean, it'll be that and probably another notch up from that. Of course, one more swig of bourbon before you come in. Yeah, for the afternoon game. I mean, it could go really one of two different ways. I mean, the crowds obviously going to set the tone in this game. But if you look at the Alabama tennesse game last year, the town of possession was three to one in Alabama's favor. That's fine for Tennessee, but if they're scoring, if you're getting three and out, then Alabama is playing the style of getting the Nick Saban wants. And that could pull the crowd out of it a little bit. But this Alabama team, as more penalties, more turnovers and Nick Saban's teams usually have. And so in Tennessee is really good at that quick change. So if you get Alabama backed up, if you get an early turnover, Tennessee can score and a player to and then that brings the crowd up even more. So it can really go one of two different ways. As you've watched this program under hypo where and I move it maybe to when things really got rolling because the first couple of weeks it was all over the place, but when Tennessee has not excelled. What has been the secret sauce? When they have not excelled. I mean, there are times. I mean, I've seen a couple, I mean, there are not many times, but when things have slowed down, how do you do that? I mean, it's really, if early on, if there are the three and outs, it's when the up tempo, all the good that you get with it, it goes bad. And really, it's only been the top competition. I mean, Georgia gave him problems last year, Alabama gave him problems last year. The teams they were supposed to be, they beat. And Tennessee doesn't mind getting into a shootout. They've done that. They're fine with that. I do think it's interesting in this game. Which tone it takes because in the other SEC games they played, Florida and LSU, Napier and Brian Kelly, both went in saying Tennessee sets the tone and we have to match it. So you saw them going for fourth down early on. It's Tennessee's game. We've got a catch up to it. When usually Nick Saban does it play that, it's his game and you have to match what he does.

"Padge up next from Alabama. Hello, mister page. Hey, Paul, doing all right, I hope. Good. I'm going to give you a little information on the NIL, but first I was going to tell you, you were talking about the broadcasters. I think while you were punching on the top prior, all of us old guys who were actually broadcasting, we were out smoking cigarettes. That's what we were doing to make our voice. So we could sound like we can answer. That's where we do. It's like a newspaper guy, because I never smoked. Well, that's why we were doing, but anyway, I was going to tell you the name of our well, that might be drinking and smoking, but. Collective that we've got is called high tide traditions. That's the name of it. And it is handled. You probably know this is by retired lawyer who's handling it for the university. And if it has, I think it's been announced by on the hey coach, if it had and there will be this week and we had an interview with Phillips Dutch the other day and he mentioned his name, Larry Morris. Is that right? Yeah, Larry Morris, that's his name. Yes, yes. He'd been around a while and he knows what he's doing. And that's what's happening. I know that he's already got this was impressive to me. A freshman lineman has already been given the signing deal for on Monday or in IL, I don't know for how much, but he was given one. And they've got a good website for all of the Alabama fans that would like to look at it and it's a high tide traditions. I think dot com and it's got a lot of rules on there. It does say a little bit about what you were talking about. The lines of what they know and it's saying pretty much that the compensation can not be structured in a way that encourages or solicits a perspective student path lead. To enroll at a particular institution. Now that stated on there, not whether everybody's that you're into that, I doubt. But that's what it says. And it's tells a little bit more about it. I'm trying to get involved with it a little bit more because you know I'm being all of this. And I think Nick Kelly and I'm sure you know him is the one that's done the story on it. So he can tell you more about it than I can. But these two guys that you've just had on about coach say, but he had it pretty much on the head and I haven't been around him much in the last year or two, but whatever is happening. He will conform. He may not like it. And he may not tell you much about it, but eventually he'll make it work towards our advantage of ours being Alabama, and of course towards the student. And he loves the kids that comes in. And he takes care of the guys. That's one thing I will say. And another thing that I want to say about coaches, I've learned because I've met so many of them through the years. I don't now I don't ever really have an idea of before they get there of what they might be or not be, for instance, Butch Jones from Tennessee. I had heard so much bad about him when he got there and how he wasn't very good, but he was a nicest gentleman, but I think I'd ever met. And Butch Jones, and I knew much before and after. I got to know Butch a lot better when he went to Alabama. And he was a different person because he just didn't have the enormous pressure that came with being a head coach in that community. And I think Butch handled it terribly, and I'm glad he got a second chance. But he knows he really did. Sometimes he knew that too. Yeah. He came here when he came here. He said he wanted to learn and he was given a second chance. Another Arkansas school in smaller schools, giving his and I'm not saying Butch Jones couldn't have ever made it, but he dug himself so many holes in Knoxville that he literally couldn't find his way out of them. Let's continue with more of your phone calls here and pat is in Georgia. Hi, Paul. I wanted to ask you a question about Gus mills on and Bo nicks. I always felt like somebody from upstairs was telling us the playback because even when the chemistry wants it working with the team, he wouldn't put anybody else in, for instance, Joey gatewood. He was actually going to run onto the field and now you're right. Of course you're right, pat. And by the way, next Thursday night at the draft when Malik Willis goes in the first round, a lot of auburn fans are going to go, how did that guy get away from us? But in fairness to Gus mazan, I'm surprised Gus was really able to go to lunch and make his selections by himself without Jimmy rain telling him what to do. Yeah. So I just always thought it was just science that he was. But this is a long tradition of boosters. You know, sometimes the boosters make good decisions. Back in the day, everyone used to criticize Bobby louder, but he was a smart guy. He did not let emotion get in the way. Okay, don't hang up on me either. Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy rain thinks he's the football coach. And that's why I think in some ways he's done more harm for the program than good. Yes. I finished your book. Oh, you did. Okay. It was great. It was great. I loved it. I loved them. Yes, I did, and I love them. I find it just brought back happy memories. Thanks, Paul..

"Understood. I wanted to ask you, I wanted to ask you though about the recycling program that's going on in Alabama and Georgia. Yeah. I saw grantham's going over to Alabama as an analyst, and Kirby just brought Bobo on as an analyst. And we got most champion George. And we got gooey at Alabama. What's going on here? Are these guys just trying to spend some time in purgatory? About to hire another guy that moderately well known. I think there's very little money that they have to pay. And I've talked to Butch Jones about it. I've talked to other coaches, and it's really a great experience. It's like going back to college. And you understand it having been a coach. The idea, you get to sit there, you make a contribution. I mean, you would think that Nick Saban is going to ask grantham, hey, hey, what do you see there? I mean, I mean, not to grant some went out looking great. But he still has a keen eye for defense. And I think it has helped save over the years and now it's helping Kirby. He'll get various perspectives. I mean, you compare that to when you probably first got into coaching when you had to cut the tape yourself versus what's going on now. It's truly remarkable. I would encourage you I would encourage them to give advice on everything except they're down. Yeah, no, you're right. We got to go to a breaker. But considering how Sabin beat him on third down in that famous mister B state game, or a couple other games,.

Out of a you have to defend yourself, don't you? Well, you don't have to, but you can. Yeah. No, everybody just calls him every day in the book. Is that your wife talking in the other room? Yeah. I don't want to get college trouble there, but I mean, does she realize you're on the phone? You're not married, are you? Okay. When you were married, did your wife talk to you while you were on the phone? That's not why you're not married now. Okay, I get it. No, she's also looked at you and watching TV just keep talking to me. Now, does he got all his marbles? Which one? Matt from Texas? I would say, yeah, I'm sure he does. Half of them? No, I mean, I don't know if I want to go that far, but three quarters. But anyway, hey, Billy, thanks for the call. Gary is up next. A hello Gary. Hey, Paul, this is Gary Valentine. I'm just wanted to make a comment. On Derek Dooley, joining Alabama staff. Yeah. Well, he's an analyst. I wouldn't say he's on the staff. Oh, well, I understood he was, what do you say? I thought was he was the offensive coordinator. Garrett doing? Yeah. I don't know about that, but it just came out yesterday that he is joining Sabin's coaching staff. I'm not sure it was specific on what he's doing. I don't know. Will it show that he was going to be the offensive coordinator? When he was coach Harriet, you take off that is one sorry individual. When you went into his office, he purposely had his desk elevated about two feet from the floor. So when I fire come in to talk with him, they would have to look from the floor up. Right. The guy's got a personality that's zero. I just can't believe that Alabama had anything to do with you. Okay, here's the deal, Gary. He is going to be an offensive analyst, which means he will not be on the coaching staff. He will basically sit in another room in a child's desk. Remember when you were in third grade, you had that little desk and I think he's taking Butch Jones old desk. All right. Because the job, the job doesn't pay, but he gets three box lunches a week. Well, that's about what he's worth in my opinion. Hey, by the way, Gary, speaking of Tennessee. I used to be very close friends with his mother. Barber dealey. She was a regular on our old show back in Birmingham, and because of Derek, she had to quit doing the show, which she was quite good at, by the way, and had a sponsor because he did not like her being subjected to potentially difficult questions about his miserable coaching. Well, I wish he'd get past, but. Our Butch Jones guy has not fared well. Yeah. I know Derek, but I didn't know that I didn't know that much that about his personality. I mean, I've always just thought he was another boring coach. But hey, thank you for the call. Appreciate it. We are heading to a break. We have a lot to do. In a relatively long period of time, four hours. We'll talk to Heather dennett next. Some love him. He's a football God and some.

"If the top reason not to make a move is you don't want to go up against USC and LSU and in a hiring cycle, well that's perhaps not the best reason. Well, assuming that he does survive and I think right now, if you're looking at this as a stock, he's probably going to survive. And we can debate whether he should or shouldn't. But what type of position does he land in, though, as we turn the page, get through the off season? And get back together again next spring and summer. When Dan Mullen shows up at media days wherever it is, I've lost track of that balancing ball, what are we going to be saying about him? Well, we're going to be saying that this guy enters the 2022 season on about as hot of a seat as you can have in the preseason. As you know, Paul, I covered Tennessee for four seasons and it would remind me of that 2017 season which became Butch Jones is final year. Butch Jones entered that season on the hot seat. Really, he did. And that's a very tough situation for any coach could be. And we've seen coaches fight off that situation before. Usually it ends up getting them in the end and maybe they kick the can down the road for a couple of years and you're fired in the end, but we have seen coaches battle off that hot seat for the first season. But I do think it's incredibly hard to go into a season knowing that you're already on hot seat. There's really not much margin for error if any and I think the success stories of guys in that situation, they exist, but they're often few and far between, I think. Well done, as always, Blake taught by her from USA Today. Thank you, Blake. You'd be well, and we are coming right back with much.

I think that the young were against the tories by ratio of three to one by the old were for the conservatives bayerische of force one. now they're way more over sixty five people under twenty five. I think in two thousand and two fraser. Who was vigorously campaigning. Against the tony blair. Gordon brown efforts To to hike national insurance and now that he's empower. He's doing exactly what they did. And to be honest he's gone a lot further with it and he's barely allowed any discussion for it now. Is this somebody who wrote about principles business to act on them. Is this somebody who is still principal on the belief of of lower taxes and a free society but just thinks they're not affordable right. Now these are questions he's going to have to answer in the not too distant future. It almost doesn't matter if the election is in two thousand twenty three twenty twenty four. His own base is going to be asking these questions. Another big thing is what we get for. It will the nhl increased to one hundred and ten percent capacity as promised. Will your elderly relatives get better access to treatment and better social care. I suspect from these plans especially on social care. We're not going to see any of that. It's huge challenge for the h. s. which struggled with waiting times long before the pandemic hit. Boris johnson's going to have to deliver. Otherwise he will have failed on his public pulse promises as well as his manifesto pledge and for tori. That's very difficult. Bolero isn't turning the tables on you. Were talking about this last night and you were saying that you think there could be some electoral and logic in this well. Gee i mean slave pay devil's advocate. I did in their younger vases. Here maybe set to inherit not huge amounts necessarily but he probably haven't followed their wages have grown as much as pops parents generation did on the probably given up being able to learn. They just know thinking people knew what the top by house based on the gallery so instead they may well be thinking well. I'm going to have to rely on some of the bank of moment. And maybe the tories have played quite move here because on the one hand it's protected the aspect of it but also they are allowing people pay in operation ordinary like the idea of paying more tax. Really if they knew want of spoiled any just what people often talking about. So i didn't know. I i wonder if it's quite clever. Need taurean because you're saying in the barn last night that you think this is this is something people would dimissed liking. It probably will because nobody particularly wants to say you know. I'm actually lucky enough. That i will be able to get a bang. Mom and dad deposit from my house and this talk change will now make it more likely is removed the doubts of dementia coming along and knocking this whole thing down. And that's what. I mean by the acid. Oh crecy that is in the back of the mind. The people that when when it comes to buying this house there is family resource to drone now working. Obviously because it's sort of a big divide in society. But i'm sure there are lots of people you probably d. I wonder if they're younger vases. He you pats have agree with what the we're not talking about uber rich here. We're talking about people who were standard middle class twenty years ago who have acquired this massive big asset boom boomer family and of course pensioners by and large. They want the money for themselves. They want their grandchildren to be able to afford a house. So within their heart they will take the assets. They want to see go so they're going to make this proposal not because it makes them richer because it makes the grandchildren more is wrong for those people to want to use the assets to help support that younger members of their family. Johnson was telling the mp's i doubt drinks. Article issued a bunch of into number ten various cohorts younger ones or the ones he said to them. Look this is about something fundamentally conservative. it's about the right to the dis- cheaply human desire to pass down your assets to your children and your grandchildren to keep it within the family. And he's because young generation we didn't have any assets so lightly to acquire them. Exactly look interest. You get on your savings right now. It's a joke..

"I remember one of my first weekends. As a as a sportswriter in tennessee. Abc came for the alabama game or the auburn auburn game and i went and interviewed the the abc crew. And they may. They weren't coming back again that year. I mean you had them once and maybe you got a road game. This is not like what we have today and you know again. That's you know again. We're going old school. But that's how all this began at the time though. Abc did not only espn. Espn did not begin. Until what seventy nine. Yeah with australian rules football. Let's talk to bobby who's in saint augustine. Hello body could even bought the for taking my call. Thank you those were two great calls The to you just add Fantastic What i wanted to ask. You is tennessee has a a. I think home at home schedule. With oklahoma is the first source of what twenty three or twenty. Four is that right. i'll have to check. I mean they had a couple of years ago. I do remember that. Tennessee should've beaten oklahoma five or six years ago. That was that was one of those game. I think that that ended butch jones career there because they had a they had a ten point lead. I think and let it all slip away at home. Thank you for ruining my thursday nights there. I really appreciate that you remember the by the yo- yeah vividly I guess my question. Is they have the game scheduling. What twenty four. If oklahoma comes to the conference before then what happens to that game get shifted to goes off the board. Yeah alabama alabama has a game of texas too. I think it was next year. That was thousand thousand. My other question is what other. Sec teams Game scheduled in weapons. Yeah i mean. These games are scheduled as as non conference game so they will. They will go. they'll be gone. Okay all right thank you hope. You have a really good thank you. Yeah it did not bother. I didn't mean to ruin your day. I bet we ruined butch jones's day even worse. Bill is up next hello bell. Hey hey there. Math.

"Butch jones didn't do heck those guys didn't get to year four and i said this at the end of last year when when announced he was gonna come back. What a luxury to have in college football regardless of level where you have the same coach quarterback and offensive coordinator that had been together for three years and more than thirty victories. I just. I'm intrigued by how that's going to translate into a better season for dez possibly a season that puts him on the tips of tongues of nfl. People as we talk about who may go in the first or second round but also more importantly here what it might mean for the team's success in two thousand twenty one. And i tell you what mo. There's a lot of coaches that i talked to. Where the first thing. They say about their quarterback and we talk about their struggles last year and they would say you know what he had. This was his third offense coordinator in three years or this was his third different offense in three years and that's why he struggled last year. So you hit right on the head. The continuity on offense is huge for cincinnati. And and like. I said i i remember started out last year. I i wasn't blown away by his first couple of games but he really got better down the stretch last year and became that quarterback that she thought he could end up. I'm really anxious to see what he does in. What is really a senior season. But he's actually still a junior. Believe it or not the other thing that i can't wait to watch unfold. Is the back end of this defense. And you rank position groups. You have the cincinnati secondary as the second best group and all the college football right behind alabama. Think about that for a second right. Go in depth on that for me when when you watch these guys critically expand upon that. What do you like most about this group. Well let's start with cornerback position and a lot of lot of teams have really good cornerbacks..

"So Tennessee fans have been handed a smoldering pile of dog poo for a while now and after you had Major coaching stability from the seventies through the two thousands. Ending with Phillip Fulmer. You've now had just a bunch of Coaching hires and fires and embarrassments. The Derek Dooley nonsense and then the Butch Jones weird press conferences and then the Jeremy Pruitt stuff and Not hiring Greg Siano and the mob mentality that was behind that. And now you have Josh Heiple. And I totally understand evolves fans that are underwhelmed by this higher, totally get it. The thing is, the Tennessee football program should not be a joke. There are some programs that are a joke. That should be a joke. Tennessee program should not be a joke. Tennessee resides in the best football conference in America. And on a side of the conference. That is competitively beneficial. Yes, You've got your rivalry game with Alabama. But being the SEC East has always been way better than being the SEC West With Auburn, Alabama Ellis you now A and M. Tennessee has 100,000 people that will show up two Saturdays in the fall. They've got history. They've got Heisman Trophy wins. They've got national championships. They've got NFL pros. They've got a lot a lot, and they should not have to be a punch line. So for evolves, fans That were underwhelmed yesterday like this is the best we can do, Josh Heiple. I get it because it absolutely feels like the athletic director Danny White, who was hired from UCF didn't look very far to get his guy or A bunch of people turned it down. They had to end up settling for Heiple. The idea that hyper was the number one choice is obviously fraudulent. He was not He could not be a number one choice. A guy that won six games last year cannot be the number one choice from a group of five school for a SEC team. Get it. And that frustration by balls fans is totally valid. Will say. The reason that Tennessee's in this spot Is a bunch of busted hires of guys that couldn't get the job done and a Very Disturbing and dysfunctional coaching, search and power play by donors and media members that end manipulating What the public should want. And that whole issue is is another can of fish. It's a whole different situation where it's not always hiring the right guy. It's hiring the guy that makes people happy, and that's not always the right guy. So if Heiple ends up being the right guy, But did it make people happy? So be it. Who cares? If you're underwhelmed that he ends up being there for 10 years great. I always felt this way. Tennessee needs a guy that feels like this is a great job and not some type of saving it out of a burning wreck. And If Heiple can do that, and he can streamline some of the issues with administration because he knows the A D. That's good. He comes from an offensive background. People have always Considered him a bright offensive mind that's good as well. He also needs to be able to win recruits because they are hemorrhaging players after another go around with another coaching search, improved getting the ax and all of these recruiting coordinators and assistant coaches getting the ax is well in under investigation. So you need somebody who's stable. But who also has a little bit of time dynamic personality because What happened with Butch Jones was He won some games. But Butch just always seem to say the wrong thing was absolutely anti dynamic was the Undine Amick? And that combination made a lot of people real board. Although I will say Butch Jones, you know, going 85 or seven and six. Sounds not bad right now, after what happened to Jeremy Pruitt So I think the thing is, you could be underwhelmed. But if if the salute If this is a fit in the solution so big, you'll take it. You just want to get out of the cycle of embarrassment. That's the key here. And I don't blame balls fans for being Tauron at this, okay? Yeah. I mean, I want to believe the guy, but I can't believe the guy because the program never gives me any any reason to believe. Too much dysfunction. I think what you just have to do is unfortunately right now, you just take a wait and see approach. If you're not jumping up and down with pom poms, that's totally fine. You really don't have a reason to do that. And you see the little things the small steps. What's the staff look like? What's the early recruiting return to look like? Is he able to keep any guy that might have thought about leaving Because Prue, it's leaving..

"Buying tickets, you could buy that for 10 bucks. The money goes to the school. Now there is some costs on there, sometimes with with the provider of the actual video equipment if they had the purchase that, but okay, that's called business, right, And all the rest goes to the school. I don't get the problem why people complain about because they're paying for something. They're used to not having well. They do? It wasn't it was even offered before. So once something comes, you should be. Why should be able to watch high school football for free. They should just that should just be on my TV. Well, which any time I want weekly, ESPN Friday night game national, But if you want your school, you're gonna have that what people need to understand. This drives me crazy is somebody who operates events. For a living. Things are not free. You know what? As you were talking up above your head is ESPN. Yep. The Duke Louisville game is on. So you talk about the money and follow the money. Where does the money go? And that can particular situation. It goes to the school understanding that's great. What I just saw is something that's just been eating at me now for its. It's a couple of years now. Guy from Louisville. Is it free Throw line now screen splits. He's shooting free throws. There's a Taco Bell commercial, right? We're running it now. Right? Hurry, said game the game. I mean, you're seeing that during kind of breaks in the action in the NFL with little things that where they keep the game up, or whatever, but running. I mean, that's when there's nothing happening, right. This guy was shooting free throws, and there's a Taco Bell commercial right next door. So where does that money goes that go to the network? Is that part of the deal with the school? That's network. That's part of what they're paying for the right to televise. I mean, who, in essence, the school's getting something, But here's the other thing. I would tell you that irritates the hell out of me and I would ask educators to start Look at themselves in the mirror and get rid of this crap, And here's what it is. Stop paying coaches and I'm talking college athletics. He's absorbing it contracts not so much to coach but then when they get fired Look, if you know that they make good money. Look at that boy could be off on this by a dollar, too, But I don't think I'm far off at one point Charlie wife Remember him the blow Big boy Big book Charlie from the Patriots, who coached Notre Dame and in Kansas, and somewhere he was getting paid. He wasn't even coaching. He was getting paid from, like three different places. Butch Jones on Nick Saban staff. Alabama, I think was making like 35 grand. You know why? Because he's making multi millions for ruining Tennessee's football program. He didn't even think album. Come on. It was good enough to start a Tennessee. That's the problem. These guys like Jeremy, Prudent, Tennessee, another guy just got fired. But guess what? He'll get fired and get paid to do so. Go away. We'll give you a multi millions. Mr President stop, And that is why we're gonna have an issue long term because that's all financed by season ticket holders Question. I'm nae so on and so forth, and if the paradigm shifts to paying for it on TV, and that money is not coming in to the school the way to the one which it may be that he's gonna run. That's how you're going to see that shift change and you're gonna have a lot Probably. I don't know if you're a better coaching or not so much, but We got to take a break for news to getting your attacked. I can tell. Maybe we'll let you cool off a little bit. We're halfway home coming up in six o'clock. Who do we determines coming into six. I don't even really know how we do You want to say chicken, and that's what we're gonna do this chick Ludwig, Maybe let's Dexter and you know what? Vols firing Pruitt with cause after investigation
"Butch jones suddenly looking better. Jeremy pruitt gone today. John joining us. These senior sports editor at aol dot com and john. It is great to have you with us. We've talked about the possibility that pruitt would be gone. He is now gone. Fulmer out as well. Your reaction another stunning day on rocky. Top back on again paul. You know. I think that the part that i guess is maybe the most surprising to me is the phil fulmer component Because as you know we talked about the past you know there's obviously been you know. Rumors swirling about tennessee. Possibly moving on from jeremy pruitt for a while. I think a lot of people in the industry thought when that first report came out that tennessee was looking into Potential recruiting violations under pruitt that was signaling that they would like to fire pruitt with 'cause a four forecast which you know they've made very clear that is what they are doing. The former component is a little different because he is such legendary person with that blake department From his time as a football coach and you saw today in that press conference just the these university leaders really going out of their way to praise him and talk about how he's at tennessee. Ledge all those different things. So i think you know fomer kind of getting pushed aside Calling it a retirement. But i think there's a little more to that is probably the most interesting component of this to me because now it means you not only have to fire new. Find a new football coach but you also have to find a new ad. Do you think john. It was the contract extension. That former gave jeremy pruitt attorney was the final tipping point for him. I would imagine it's probably a lot of different you components to it because you know hey we have to remember this. Was you know fomer higher to begin with you know as that whole crazy. Coaching search point out and former becomes. Ad then hires jeremy pruitt. I also think. I mean if you were watching that press conference today paul. You know felt like you know so. It's still in some ways defending pruitt. They're asking him about how pruitt would be remembered and he talks about how you know recruiting had been good Which is obviously ironic considering that they fired him in part because of recruiting violations and fired nine people in total also tied the recruiting department But also just the way that he was talking about how pro had rebuilt relationships and all these different things it felt like to me at least that former was not out on pruitt as a higher to that point. So you know part of it could have been simply that you feel wasn't ready to move on from pruitt and it s part became what we're gonna make just wholesale changes here and i think if you remember paul you know one of the reasons why earlier in the year before we knew about all these recruiting violations. I was always a little skeptical. Pruitt getting fired in part because it would reflect poorly on former. And i didn't think four would want to move on from his higher Like you said he just gave an extension to after only three seasons as the head coach

"Of all time when you get to seven championships in 16 years And six and 12 of Alabama and you wanna head of Bear Bryant. You retired that conversation. We don't need to have that conversation ever again. When it comes to Nick statement. As far as I'm concerned, here's something else and I put it out there. We know the gap continues to increase between Alabama, the SEC. But how much maybe that he increased the gap last night. Between Alabama and everybody else in college football. I talked to one sec head coach, Freddie I didn't even know you're gonna pose that question on that. You know, it happens like minds and right here, right here. This one. This one coach said last night was a message not to just us. But everybody in college football We're on a different level. And and they are on a different level right now. It was a very firm a message. No Ohio State, You know the time of the sugar bucks and you know that they could run with anybody. And that's why they really want to play this year, which looked like Ohio State that he had a great team. Continent. Yeah, literally made any great team. Alabama is an exceptional team. They're just different man. And when you really think about this in Blythe a different in your opinion, why they different. It's the attention to detail. Everything about that place and talking to Butch Jones, who has been there as an analyst in an advisor for the last three years Now going on toe, be the head coach at Arkansas State. You said everything you heard about this place. Look, man. All that can't be true. I mean, I know the attention to detail the intricate, you know, just Every minute thing you can imagine. And then the grind and players five stars four stars super ego athletes coming in and buying in Being broken down and putting going to the lowest end and then being built back up again. You heard it. You didn't believe it. Then you see how it's done. And everything about it is true. He's right. I mean that that's how he does it. That's how they do it. That's how you get a nausea Harris, who when I'm interviewing him after they beat George and over time to win the national championship, we had three freshmen come in. And save the day for Bam in the second half into Devante Smith. But we all know now, though, didn't then and nausea Harris now she's like it's about damn time. I got some Cherries. Yeah, right. And I ask him about that when he joined us. What? A month ago, and his answer was great. Yeah, it was a cocky guy. Back to that sounds like I mean, I was an idiot. That sounds like May Bowl Scarborough and all those dudes then Yeah, he Danny's like, Okay, wait a minute. Now I see. And then he became one of those mentors..
