This is a Bloomberg business lash. Asian equity futures are trading lower this morning down about a half of 1% earlier U.S. stock saw wild gyrations. Traders were whipped around a bit by some of the headlines that came out of the fed rate decision. The reaction has been sharpest in U.S. equities, which are down about 1.7%. The dollar which gained about 6 tenths of a percent and also short term treasuries. But Bloomberg's Mark cranfield writes that there's still the risk of a severe breakdown in commodities in high yield credit in emerging market debt or even housing as the fed moves toward its terminal rate. Did say at some point a pause would be in order, but it seems that that time is not now, the S&P 500 jumped 1.3% as he was saying those words, but he then vowed that the fed would crush inflation, and he said his main message was that officials are strongly resolved to bring inflation down to the 2% goal. "I know you were out. You were out of town, would you have come back for the Super Bowl? Yeah. I would have absolutely come back for that. Because we were talking about it, like the ability to beat the rams in this new facility, the same stadium. And then win the Super Bowl there. Ended a conversation similar to the way that I think duke ended any conversation with North Carolina forever more. Like that would have ended a lot of conversations. Absolutely. Absolutely. But you know, I will say that and not to change the subject or to change what you wish. But we were as sort of Northern California sports fans. Yes. We were still kind of just picking up the pieces after the Giants run lasts last year. And then there was just the most, it was like being in the playoffs for three months. I mean, it was really every single day. Yes. We were checking our phones looking for breaking news. It turns out it was the same news for the last 5 hours. And then the niners made the run. And like me and all my Friends were like, I don't know if I don't know if my constitution is strong enough to handle another run. Yes. That is literally coming out of nowhere. Nowhere. But man, it's fun. And it would have been, it would have been nice to be both of those teams to be quite honest. But we didn't. And you want to know what? Next year. Well, the next year has arrived in baseball. And it looks like the Giants are going to have to win a 120 games to go win for win with the Dodgers this year. I mean, as long as the Dodgers win a 119, that's fine. As long as we can win looks like one more. So far so good, right? You're almost like I'm actually pretty impressed with the squad that they've put together. I really am. I mean, obviously lose and Buster Posey was just, I mean, that's just a huge soccer punch. I mean, not only for his play behind the plate and just being being the captain, I'm sorry, captain belt, but you know, he kind of was Buster Posey was a heart and soul. So to lose that is it was really, really difficult. And yet, you know, very similar to last season, you get the right group of misfits together and people step up to the plate. And it looks like we might have a good squad. But we're a weekend. Yeah, like two weeks in and I just saw that it said it was breaking news at the MLB season. It's finally happened and Kershaw has got a pitch count limit and even though that was fun to fun to see. Everybody tried to explain that. Colin Hanks here on the rich eisen show. Ask him our poll question about the favorite baseball movies because today is the 33rd anniversary of the release of field of dreams. If you had said angels in the outfield, I would say we really got to talk, guys. Is that in the pool? Is that in the poll? That's not an angel's did we skip over the danza aspect of this thing? The Anaheim angels, but they filmed that in Oakland. Was Tony Danza and angels in the outfield? He was running the edging pitcher who needed one last go. Well, again, analytics would have gotten him. So we narrowed it down to these four, obviously there's 50. Field of dreams, major league, bull Durham, the sandlot. Which one would you choose? Oh, wow. I'm gonna have to the sweet spot for major league. Sandlot, I'm gonna admit never saw. Oh. Never saw it all. Just like me from two years ago. Yeah, I never saw. That was one where it hit me in that sweet teenage years where I'm like, no, watching that. Even though I had no reason not to watch. I mean, you're not busy. Just take two hours today. On your flight on your next slide. You sure what that might be a good one to watch with the kids. The kids. Yes, I watched it. I'll do that. Yes, that's a good one. Beware, because your kids and my kids are similar ages. And once it was over, they wanted to watch two. Electric.

"Agreement has been hammered out and Jason stark will be joining us a Hall of Fame writer baseball writer will be joining us to tell us the how it quickly came together, but once that, I'm just kind of curious how it just came so together so fast. It just proves again. They know what the number is. They know what the number that they're willing to do is it just takes forever for pig heads and alpha males to get the F out of the room and out of the way. And sanity to actually land. I'm serious, man. I've been through enough of these. It's that simple. They all know what it would take. They all know what it would take. And thankfully they did, but now there's a universal DH as apparently 12 teams making the playoffs, 6 in each league and the top two division winners. There's three division winners. The division winners with the two best records get a buy. And then the third best division winner, unfortunately, has to play a first round series against what appears to be the weakest link on the wild card ladder. The third best team outside of a division winner. And then the two wild card teams would normally make it would play one another. I believe that's what it is. I've tried to read up on this a little bit, and then there is a universal DH, meaning hard. Thank God. You don't need to see Max Scherzer hit, which by the way is like watching paint dry. I've done that before. I've done both. And so that should pet things up a little bit. And then I was looking for that whole business that the shift is gone. But it's not gone. It's not going to all but it's going to be in front of some competition committee that's being formed with players and owner representatives. So because the commissioner used to just be able to say, we're doing it and you've got a year to get used to it. And I guess now they're going to be more collaborative to get the players on board for bigger bases and then a pitch clock and then the shift first order business. Get rid of that F and shift. Get the F out. Get rid of it. Oh my God. I don't understand the need for the larger basis. They're trying to save it for safety. Like a first base, but I do ask a Dodger fan what happened to max muncy at the end of the season last year. It just happens once. I get it. But that's all it takes. Buster Posey, right? Then a rule change gets put in there. Bigger paces. What does it matter? Well, now it's not 90 feet between bases. I guess. Now it's like 89 feet. Well, the beginning of the bag is still in the same spot. So the feet wouldn't change with only, right? If it's a larger space, if a base ends here and now it's here, then it's closer between the bases. The whole thing is crazy. It just doesn't even make sense. I guess. It's still 90 feet from home to first. But now from the first to second. The first. I didn't think. I think what we need to do though is we need to stop this conversation here because we're slowly inching into the territory of.

"This line of work, Thomas had the practice of turning good strikes into mere fowles so perfected that he could take his usual cut at the ball and getting a piece of it follow it straight over the catcher's shoulders. Connie Mac reminiscing in 1924 cited Thomas McGraw and Huey Jennings as betters who were adept at using this tactic to draw walks and a contemporary account provided this description of McGraw's method whenever he picks out a ball he thinks will be a strike. He brings us back to meet it at an acute angle to the catcher and in consequence the ball is fouled off to the left, one Cincinnati picture became so annoyed by Thomas persistence during a game in August 1900 that he sucker punched him. Wow. So yeah, that sounds pretty annoying. Glad they changed that rule. Yeah, that seems that seems like one that is necessary. I'm kind of surprised that it lasted this long. It's almost as if we want to talk about hats. Okay, I am going to take what is known broadly as the Buster Posey rule, but really ought to be the Alex Avila rule. This is the home plate collision rule. And it is such a common misnomer that fellow friend of the podcast grant brisby felt the need to defend Buster Posey's honor in a piece for the macroeconomics in 2016, laying out sort of the timeline here. We are all familiar of course with the May 25th, 2011 Buster Posey injury in which a home plate collision basically broke every bone in his leg. So shattered his leg all the way apart, and it was pretty bad. And then in 2013, Alex Avila was injured pretty badly in the ALCS. And then the following February baseball introduced this rule around home plate collisions, which is as follows. So this is rule 7 13. A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher or other player covering home plate unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher can not block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. The failure by the runner to try to touch the plate, the runner's lowering of the shoulder or the runner's pushing through with his hands elbows your arms with support a determination that the runner deviated from the pathway in order to initiate contact with the catcher in violation of rule 7 13, notwithstanding the above, it shall not be considered a violation of this rule if the catcher blocks the pathway of the runner in order to feel the throw. And the umpire determines that the catcher could not have fielded the ball without blocking the pathway of the runner and that contact with the runner was on avoidable. And you know, I think we're a pro catcher podcast. I think that that's one of our stated positions as a podcast and not just because of the framing, although we do really like the framing. And so while I think that it can be at times a difficult rule to enforce, which is part of why I think I opted not to take it and rather took the chase outly rule just because, you know, bang bang plays at home can be hard, sorting out what's involved often does require the use of replay, which can slow things down. So I think that in that respect, it is a little bit inferior from an enforcement perspective. Some of these home plate collisions are just like horribly gnarly. And they really mess guys up and they mess guys up who are already taking an incredible amount of physical grind as catchers. And so I think trying to preserve catcher health is like an admirable sort of project just given how much again wear and tear they take back there. So it's a good rule for the most part. It does sometimes slow things down to enforce it. And I think that we should all listen to grant and call it what it is, which is the Alex Avila rule and not the Buster Posey rule. If only because one of the people in the Giants orbit who was the most annoyed by this rule is goose gossage, and he causes the Buster Posey rule. And I think really if we can distance ourselves from couscous as much as possible, we're probably living better life. So. Yeah, this is why it's hard to establish the origin story of some of these things. This is a recent rule and it really was a Buster Posey rule. And granted posey probably played a part in it, for sure, but for sure. After posey, there was the Matt trainer was injured in a collision to honor Navarro was injured in a collision and then Avila was injured in a collision, and then they changed the rule after previously saying that they would not. So yes, all right. I will take the phantom DH rule then. Earl weaver exploit. So Earl weaver in 1980, he would use his pitchers as his DHS, so he listed Steve stone the Cy Young winner as a DH, even though stone had not hit at all in the previous few years, and he wasn't even in the ballpark, I believe because he had already left for Toronto because he was going to be starting a game there the next night. But he was the list of DH in the starting rotation and the contemporary coverage said, we've got the inspiration to cast stone as DH two nights earlier when the Orioles knocked out Tiger starter milt Wilcox before he had retired a batter, Detroit manager Sparky Anderson brought in another right hander, roger weaver and relief, but we forgot to thinking what would have happened if Anderson had brought in a left hander for someone as devoted to playing the percentages as weaver, it would have meant pitch hitting for his DH. So to keep his options open, he listed stone in the lineup in the 6th spot and waited to see who was pitching before he sent someone to the plate. And then a few days later, he explained it. He said, I got the idea in a letter from a fan, which is cool. If I had a left handed DH and the tigers had brought in a left handed pitcher, I'd probably have had to switch to a right hand at the age. That means my first guy would be lost for the rest of the game. This way our real guys are available for the whole shot. Detroit manager Sparky Anderson conceded, it was a crafty maneuver, but he's not sure it's kosher, I think the starting DH will have to face the starting pitcher if he's in the game Anderson said if the starting pitcher doesn't last until the DH comes up for the first time, that's different. Anyway, weaver went on to do this 21 times during a 22 game stretch, I think, and I don't know whether it actually made any difference, but it was emblematic of his just play in the odds and the probabilities any way he could and leaving his options open. So after that season, there was a change the official playing rules committee amended the DH role to ban the phantom DH because we've had been accused of making a travesty of the rule. And the new rule read that the designated hitter named in the starting lineup must come to bat at least one time unless the opposing club changes pictures. So you could still change his DH the first time around to gain the platoon advantage, but he would lose the services of a real hitter and not a pitcher who wasn't even in the ballpark. So I just love how inconsequential and kind of petty it is, but he still was going to do it as long as they let him do it because you never knew it might help a percentage point here or there. Yeah. I think that there you go all right, I guess I'm taking Carter caps. I'm taking the cargo casserole, which has you were kind enough before this draft to share sort of the.

And then all the gifts are on the tree, but they're back home. And for us, our guy, we knew he was going to have an impact, but we had to be patient. While we were patient, we didn't play with baseball, the raised play great, and then they did what they did, and they wanted to, you know, they kind of like won the division in August. But he's been amazing for us. Yeah, he's talking about the fact that Kyle schwarber was hurt when the Red Sox acquired him, the Red Sox waited for a shorter hamstring to get better and he's been terrific. The Giants felt like that Buster Posey was arguably the best catcher in baseball this year. Meanwhile, the Met's request to talk to brewers executive Stearns was reportedly turned down. "Games have been played because after one hundred and sixty one games. It's a lot easier to protect the rest of the season. Shar an after one hundred fifty. Even it's a lot easier to protect the rest of the season but after one or two games the season at eight stats which are mainly using last year stats at that point and the coin flip stats which are flipping coins. Just don't really know who's gonna go bad whereas our model has done a really good job in the last seven years if thinks. The team is unlikely to make the playoffs early in the season. It's mostly right right and if it takes. A team is very likely to make the playoffs. It's mostly right and it's willing to do that more than any kind of more naive assumption and that has paid off for it. So what i would say. Is that our odds look really good relative to basically the sanity check test of like well teams up in a thoroughly and they were good last year so they should be good and it looks really good. Relative to like any team was up. Five in their division usually wins things it just. It does a good job of what it sets out to do which is use dips and steamer to figure out how good at things players are and use how the players on the team are to figure out how good team is and then forecast. The season has basically done what we think it's done. I'd say better than expected. Yeah well where are the places though where it has done less well than you had expected it to sure so the two things that i think are the places where we can improve it in a reasonable way without completely overhauled. The way it's done right is so firstly we use point forecast for how team is so we. We take zips individual forecast for player in steamers individual forecast for player the percentile ones. Or maybe they're mean. I don't remember we take their single one line output and say. That's how good this player is. Yeah and we take jason's one lion played appearances output and say here's how much he'll play and then we build a team strength based on that. And then we simulate the season twenty thousand times a different way that you could imagine. Doing that was every player. Has a range of outcomes somewhere on a scale from zero to one hundred percent and every player has some chance of injury and freed simulation. We roll some dice and say oh. This player efficiencies in this one had a worse. One this guy's hurt rebuild their deaf charts. And now run so that would allow for some more team variation. I'll give you an example. Like there was definitely chance giants. Were going to be a lot better than we thought you know. Our projections were mean protection. For buster posey and for brandon crawford. And they were wrong they were just not right right. Those projections were bad. The projections were unbiased but they came out above their percent outcomes and so if we continue using it for different until outcomes we did didn't break the season and so it wouldn't change as much as you think because a lot of times that you have your seventy percent dot com so to the dodgers right and they just pass you anyway and a lot of time that you have your fifty percent outcome. if you're the dodgers teams behind you have their fiftieth dot com and you win anyway. But i think that would make for basically less certainty and while. I said that it's really good. That our model gets certain.

If they were actually in tampa and looked kicked around plans with the city of tampa about possibly moving there. I would say this. After hearing george yesterday and i agree with him by the way like given all the value and money that's accessible to major league baseball the idea that it sort of nickel and dime situation in their haggling over this you would love george dinner table when the check comes right. Could this become a strategy. For veteran catchers to reset their bodies and prolong careers. And i should note at bet. The family farm another bleacher tweets burner. Count i think we've seen to those the season so love that well and the catcher you think of that strategy would be jd you know moving forward at the phillies in the in the midst of this long term. Let's say had a bad year and he was kind of banged up. Did i don't know if it would become like a a model for the way teams would hinder handle aging catchers. But you know that if jt at hip surgery for example they could cite those precedents as. Hey you know what. It's not the worst thing in the world for an aging catcher to have your off because there's no doubt i mean salvi and and buster had huge years. Already that doesn't for bleacher..

It can be our love talking baseball over the weekend with Marty and Bill and if there's one thing I've learned about filling in on the leadoff spot, it's five A.m. crowd is a tough crowd to impress. I love you guys on the text line. 88 knbr is our number. There are some people who are fired up about Shohei Otani performance in the Derby. Feel that I overhyped the guy feel that he's overrated. I'll be honest. I did not expect those takes, but I appreciate them. I appreciate all the different opinions here that we've gotten so far. It's been fun. Fun morning on the text line. If you have some thoughts on what you saw in the Derby on Monday night show hero Tommy Peter Alonso hit me with them. Or get into a conversation that started on Monday night when I was on with Mark Willard. Talking about? The trio of Legacy giants who have played such a critical role. In the 57 30 to start Help the Giants the best record in major league baseball at this All Star break, Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt and what the future might hold for these three players. Monday morning, sitting in here for Adam Copeland. I said that with the way that Kevin Gausman, the Giants aces pitching right now. He is a $100 billion man this off season. Could be four years for 100 could be five years 1 25. Member. He's on the wrong side of 30, so we may not get that mega contract that 175 $200 million deal that Only a handful of pictures. Have received in the last decade or so. But I do think that the way Gosman is going with the fastball velocity with the splitter being the best pitch in baseball, he can be $100 million picture. With all the money the Giants have coming off the books at the end of this season. I think the Giants can be the organization to make him $100 million man. Right now. He looks like he could be. Member. He's got to keep this up for 13 14 more starts, and that is a tall task for a right handed picture who's never really performed at this kind of a level. Was only made his first All star team this year. But since coming to San Francisco, Kevin Gausman has been a different man. He has finally put it all together. Eight capture a few weeks ago, said the industry has always viewed him as a frontline starter. It just took gospel, getting comfortable in his own skin, learning to throw that splitter more often ditch the slider. And figuring out what kind of characteristics and traits his fastball has, by the way it plays much better up in the strike zone that it does at the bottom of the strike zone. Since making those tweaks He's been elite. So on Monday, I talked about Kevin Boston's future Today. I want to focus on Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford. Why I think that at least two of those three players We'll be back in San Francisco next year. I think that right now with the way they're going, and of course, this can change in August. This can change in September. But Buster Posey Looks like he is worthy of the jazz picking up that $22 million team option. For the 22. Season. And here's the reason. Look, I know that Joey Bart Is in this farm system and he could be ready. To take over, he could be ready to make the lion's share starts to catch up position next year. That is a very feasible option for this team right now. But I also think that come 2022. We are going to see the designated hitter in the National League. We're going to see teams. More often than not carry three catchers on a roster. And Joey Bart B 25 next year. An age where he's durable will will be able to give the Giants of ton of starts the catcher position. Buster Posey might be able to play about 50 60% of the time of the catcher position. To help the Giants is a D H. On other days. I think that more and more When the D H comes the National League and I really do believe that it is inevitable starting next season. You're going to want a tandem at the catcher position. You're gonna want offense at the catcher position, and the Jacks will have an opportunity to have both of those options If they bring Buster Posey back, so Maybe it's not exercising that $22 million option. But keep in mind. If the Giants want to get out of this contract the final year they'd have to pay him five million is part of a buyout. So either way. You're paying him a minimum of five million and I don't think you pay Bustem of poster Posey after the season that he's had so far five million to just go away. At the very least, I think that you negotiate. Different type of one year deal. Maybe you figure out one year 12 13 14 million. Maybe you make it two years 25 million, But I do think that Keeping Buster Posey in orange and black has become a much greater priority for the Giants than it was even at the beginning of the season, when Farhan Zaidi and Gabe Kapler Spoke about the important role that Buster Posey played not just on the field, but in the clubhouse as well. Heard from several people over the last few weeks and reporting out stories on Buster and talking about the type of season he's had that So much of the buy in the Giants have had in the game. Kapler era with new hitting coach is Donnie Ecker, Justin Villi. Dustin Lynch, who are in large part responsible for the career renaissance is that so many of these veteran players are having so much of that buy in Can be attributed to the way that Buster Posey Welcomed and embraced the new ideas with open arms in spring training in 2020, while he was not in the clubhouse last season after electing to set the year out. People do want to give him credit. We're getting a Brandon Crawford and Evan Longoria. On board and those guys bought in themselves. Buster Posey sets the tone of the Giants Club housing With the way that this season is going.

On This Day: Buster Posey Arrives Full Force at New York Giants
"In Giants history, We're going to go back to a really cool moment in Giants history. 2010 1 Buster Posey was arriving full force just called up from the minors and the Giants going to turn that season around in July with a huge help. The rookie Buster Posey. So it's 77 10 were in Milwaukee. Miller Park taking on the Brewers Brewers are pitching a guy named Chris Narva Sin and Andres Torres greets him with a bomb is a good start Homers to start the game. Freddy Sanchez flies out and then Aubry half he hits a bomb. So it's two nothing Giants Pat Burrow with a base. It's they're seeing this guy and here he is recently called up from the minor leagues, Buster Posey. Here's Buster Posey, a long drive deep to left center got home run into the Milwaukee bullpen. Buster Posey makes enough for nothing game. Posey's fourth home run and the Giants with a four. Nothing first inning lead the Giants just opening it up to the stretch it to 7 to 1 in the fourth when Freddy Sanchez clears the bases with a three run triple ever since, still in the game, by the way, he walks Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrow to reload the bases. Finally, they give them the hook and bring in Chris Capuano. But he's got a face Buster Posey and Like I said, Guys, he was arriving here is a pitch, he swings and it's a high drive to right field. Corey Hart's going back on the warning track. He's at the wall gone. It's a grand slam for Posey, who's hit two home runs tonight, and now he's got his first big league Grand Slam. He hits this one to right field, clearing the bases. The Giants lead is 11 to 1. It was all happening. Just started to get hot. "Roster accepted. And, more importantly, embraced Gabe Kaplan. The coaching staff had to offer they were open to new ideas, and they were open to reinventing themselves. What that has done has led Two career offensive years at the plate for Buster Posey, who is hitting as well as he has since that 2012 m V p season. And for Brandon Crawford, who's hitting better than quite frankly, he ever has in his career. His O. P s 60, plus points higher. Then the next best season his career which, by the way was 2020 when he had a 7 92 0 P s. It's meant a lot and Gabe Kapler stood in front of the dugout at Chase Field on Sunday. After Brandon Crawford was named the third career All Star team And Buster Posey. Learned that his teammates and one of the longest 10 year giants will be joining him on that flight to Denver next week. And he talked about The motivation that each of these players finds In putting up These type of seasons at age 34 when most players are on the decline. When most players Just fighting for their baseball lives. They're not thinking about an All Star game they're thinking about. Can I play well enough to merit another year or two in this game? Not true for those two Wasn't true for Evan Longoria 35 years old before he got hurt, Who? Oh, by the way, he was ticketed for an All Star appearance. Wheat crop at third base This year, you look at Evan Longoria's numbers through The time he got hurt on June 6th. You could have made the case that he was the best service in the National League. At that point. Easily a top three guy. And so Gabe Kapler in front of the dugout, he said he started to talk about the fire that they find inside themselves and The Willingness to overcome the adversity and the injuries that they faced in recent years. And he said, Forgive me, but I'm about to go on a tangent. This is not something that would happen on Zoom. This is not something that would happen over any sort of video conference, but he looked at Three reporters, including myself and said He has no Jay Z's black album. Yes, I do. I do know Jay Z's Black album, he said the 14 track my first song. Jay Z. Talking about? Keeping the thirst the fire to outdo and exceed What he done earlier in his career, That's what fueled him. Throughout a career that Quite obviously has gone down as one of the most influential and music, hip hop R and B history. To treat every project. Like it is your first. Even when it's your last project. Line from that song at the beginning like it's your first day back when he was an intern. That's how you try to treat things like, just stay hungry. Gabe Kapler said That Song reminds him of the way that Brandon Crawford Buster Posey go about their business, not sure any other manager in the major leagues would pull up. Jay Z song lyrics. 2003 from the black album. And compare those 18 years later. What his best veteran players are accomplishing. But the connection the parallels are really good. Earlier this year. For President Barack Obama said that he listened to my first song throughout his presidency and on the campaign trail. And he was fueled by those same lines. Cape Kapler, pointing out that The constant desire to exceed your output from the past. Two. Go beyond what you consider possible. Their expectations had been set for you. That's what's been so inspiring to him about Brandon Crawford, Buster Posey. It's not just the ability to show up to work every day and produce And to try and play up. The contract that they've been given. But to try and be leaders to try and be the top performers their respective positions in the National League. It's been so critical to this Giants team success. The Giants still clinging to first place in the National League West 22 games over 500 who could have seen this? Other than Larry Kruger, who at the beginning of the season was touting that the Giants would probably win 90 everyone else. No. But 22 games over 500. Relying so much on these veteran players, so I thought that was Quite cool. I thought that was a nice parallel. I thought it was something different worth pointing out. Cap is showing off his personality a little bit encyclopedic knowledge of music by the way. So next time he's on Murph and Mac. They need to get him rolling on that. Lot more coming up on this lead off spot Tuesday morning. We're talking about Johnny Cueto against Adam Wainwright tonight at an Oracle park what he needs to prove what Alex Wood and the rest of this Giants rotation needs to prove this week before the All Star break, and particularly Before the trade deadline..

"Current pace? I mean, his O. P s is Of a 25 year old guy, right like it's I mean, the way he's playing. It's so incredible. And like you said, this isn't a 60 game season. I mean, are you Is it safe to expect he can keep this pace because he did get the time off and he is arrested, Or is it reasonable to expect There's probably a mean he needs to regress to, even if it's better than imposing we saw before the pandemic. All right. If you take emotion out of it, If you just give me a description of a player you strip the name product is named, Uh, Judd Smith and you say he's a 34 year old catcher. He's got the highest slugging percentage of his career. He's got the highest on base percentage. His career he is hidden 3 33, the second highest average of his career. What is this 34 year old catch are going to do in the second half without emotion. My instinct, my knee jerk impulses to be like, Well, it's going to decline a little bit, right? I mean, it's it can go on. You've seen catchers who Miraculously have this second half to their career like Colton Fisk, and there are 35 in there as well as ever. It certainly can happen, but if you take the emotion out of it, you have to at least you know, think he's not going to be an M V p type hitter. He could still be a really good hitter. An asset to the lineup an asset to the team, but expecting like 1000 0 P s for the rest of the season. I don't know. I can't go that far and then you know, it's it's just going to be how it is. It is off arrest, though I mean is he is as fresh as these men that I mean between him and courage. It's kind of like exactly that earlier. Yeah. What am I doing? Writing? I needed big Neil. Go back back throughout Europe for a year and see if I come back and write my great American novel or something. You know what? Why grand? It's my homie, right? You just I need a year off, though we need a year. How great will we be? Here's the problem. Gap years for US adults. It's not fair. I don't get to do that. Oh, I think it's the first time ever been called an adult's. I appreciate that. You know, it's first time for everything. I'm glad I could be that guy to do it for you. Grand Brisby nous enough to join us here on the, um I guess line I Did. Boggles my mind that people still need some convincing that Buster Posey as a hall of Famer. I don't get excited about the hall of Fame one way or another, because I don't need a museum to tell me what I saw was great, however. If that dude is not a hall of Famer in your book and really not your book, but I'd really like to know what you believe The criteria is because if Buster Posey didn't play this year In my mind. He's a Hall of Famer. I would agree with that. I'm a big hole guy. I think Jorge Posada, the Hall of Famer. I think Gene Tenace is Hall of Famer like I am a big hall kind of guy. But if you want, like, a really, really good comparison, Look at Thurman Munson. Alright, you have He's a one team guy. He's the face of a franchise. He used the face of baseball in a lot of ways. He won an M V P. He won. I believe two World Series with the Yankees he's still to this day, has more games played in his career. And Buster Posey has more hits than Buster Posey, his career numbers very similar to Buster Posey. He was not just some fringe guy. He was Thurman Munson, the leader of the Yankees in the seventies. And he, you know he didn't crack 10% more than one year. He did not get a serious look at Hall of Fame consideration. And I think that's bananas in its own right. I think he's a hall of fame or two, but the voters they love longevity. They love seeing those counting sets add up as a player gets to his late thirties, maybe even early forties. I love it. When a guy can accumulate stats get to those 2500 hits get to the 304 100 homers and they're not paying attention to. Well, he's a catcher. I should give him extra bonus points because he had the toughest job in baseball, and it was harder on his body. They don't give out bonus points. It's just You know, they're looking at home runs are looking at at the counting stats. They're looking at this and that, And as of last year, Buster Posey was an open question. I think he might have made it might have made it Eventually. He's a part of baseball store in 2010. But he wasn't a slant on like a slam dunk. Like a lot of people might think in San Francisco de had a batting title, didn't he? Does. He has three rings batting title? Look at about three rings. He's caught multiple no hitters. He's got the rand a perfect games in the discussion. I'm right there with over with three rings. He's a foundational cornerstone for three rings that's done. I, You know, recruiting require here, But let me tell you about Gene Tenace. He's got four rings. You gotta worry back to back to back rings with the AIDS. And then he came back in 82 with the Cardinals and got a ring and it wasn't enough to. I think he might have fallen off the first ballot like Yeah, he He got 820.2% of the vote when he was up one and done for Gene Tenace, and I'm not comparing Posey. It's not apples to apples, but voters just do not, you know, give catchers a lot of the credit they deserve. So my thoughts about the Hall of Fame continue to be what I just told you before. I don't need a museum or in the group of people who get keep for the museum to validate what I saw and confirm that I saw greatness You can miss me with with that nonsense. Speaking of Hall of Famers Stephen do garlic. It hit her now seems to be, you know, eggless it. Stephen Duggar is doing some things. He's becoming, like one of those dudes. You look forward to his at bats. Um, I don't know that. I will say that it wasn't that long ago that he was considered a top 10 prospects for the Giants, but the new regime took over. They looked at what was left behind by the old run office and said, Oh, that dude. Yeah, that's you Can certain center for us? Let's let's see if that works. And since then it's been injury, You know, calamity one thing after another. He does have talent. He's got latent talent was obvious to like the brainiacs at baseball. America was obvious to the Giants both old and new. I don't know could be a thing. Um, one sort of Debbie Downer thing here defensively, the giant they were outstanding..

"They're all projected over 30 home runs. Buster Posey, by the way, would be leading the National League. An O. P s If he had enough of plate appearances, the Roland but just Sally, already his Sally's biting and he was playing time too much up with now we're kidding. Shut up, Caselli. So, yeah. I mean, I think if they knew all these injuries were going to crop up Second base, and now we know Wilmer Flores has to play more seconds there today. I think you'd pull out Buster's first baseman's glove and you may and start doing it now. Get him in the lineup, But as we said, Buster is gonna hit number two. He started the year hitting seventh. And he was down there for a while, in the first swing he had of the entire year. When more than a year because he didn't play last year was a tuo cutter in from Marco Gonzales of Seattle, and he headed out on the home of the next game and He's sitting 3 80 to his numbers are insane. He's squaring up everything. He has hit number 2 59 times in his career, their research. When was the last time it had to be a younger Buster Posey? We always thought, you know Boetsch loved him in the three hole. But the sentiment is to have your your best hitter in the two hole, certainly in the American League. Well, there's no picture to clog up, you know, outs and opportunities ahead of you. But when? Occasionally when they would have medicine, Bumgarner Eighth in a line up and they would have a speed guy. You know that number nine there was Duggar, somebody It didn't make sense to put buster in the two hole then But hell, the way he's swinging the bat now lead him off. Although Mike talk man did a nice job as well, But I mean buster steadily has risen up the rungs of the batting order. And now he's going all the way from seven where he started, you know, stopped over and three were votes would keep him forever And ever. Now he's sitting out of the number two Hold today. Yeah, very nice When we say he's back. When could we have that conversation? But he's clearly healthy. I mean, he had the surgery in August 2018. There were people and we had Marty Larry on the show last spring training there were predicting this from Buster last year. That, Wow, He's his hips or fly and he's driving the ball. He's getting Kerry's back spinning is figuring it all out and then The world stopped on, you know marks the 12 Spring training was suspended last year and He just sized to opt out, So we didn't see him And then you know he didn't show this kind of power and spring training. But the first wing of the year he goes bomb. So remember, we had the holders Big pole. The day of the actually was the second day that for the first day on the day of the opener on that Thursday, April one, we went with how many games they're gonna win, and then the next day we went, is who's going to lead the Giants and home runs and we were debating Whether it even a put him in the right. The Twitter for what we did right? We did we did. What did he? How did he do in that? That's a good question. I don't think he would have been my choice to be honest with you, but he does. He has seven bombs this year. Both good example got four across but five scripts. He's got four. Who's gonna lead now is Buster going to do this all the way through and lead the team in homeroom, you a hashtag holders Big pole and go back. Uh, because holder would know the research. He is very aware of all the data coming in on his pig pole. See if I can find him. He'll probably find it faster. And I will be in any of that. I mean, whether or not you know, we just wait when I were debating and Mike and Josh whether it even put him in the four. We didn't put Wilmer Flores. I think on that pole and Wilmer the home run yesterday. Wilmer led the team in home runs last year, which 12 So I was saying a Wilmer. But how much is gonna play? Let's Dallas here, Solano, but now they're not. They're not healthy. And so Wilmer could jump up quickly. That was a nice one. He hit last night. By the way, he could go thought it was over after he had that 1 62. By the way, you guys were you guys said the exact thing I was thinking. We're gonna burst Jenkins at the bottom of the hour to talk. Willie Mays. It couldn't be Mister Rogersneighborhood in the ninth inning because I He always made me nervous, but the way he's throwing the ball now he dude look silly up there against him. I mean, even temporarily mean he's he is their most effective reliever right now. Did you do that? Without a doubt? He doesn't seem to be rattled by the ninth. They have. There's been games when shakes been unavailable, and they threw him in the ninth, and he didn't seem to care. He's giving up hits in the night. It's not like it's always clean. Um You know he is effective against lefties. With the submariner. You know, most submariners. You want to go right on right, But he does have a way with that up, shoot slider to get lefties out. I think that the reason I brought it up on the air last night is something is just not the same with Jake McGee. It's just not me where he came into the game. It was like Jenna Secondly, was coming in a robin in. You were looking for your car keys trying to go home. Let's get out of here. Now. I'm like, Oh, I found it. I found it. I found the big poll. 21 for this week's a little above. Who do you think we'll leave the Giants home runs? Uh, Michael Strunsky, 66% Brandon belt 13%. Buster Posey 12% last year's leader, Wilmer Flores, 9%. So Buster got 12%. Yeah, he was third belt was ahead of him and Wilmer made the list. That's just how we made it. But Well, my lead the chairman home runs last year. Yeah, Yes, We did it again. We that we threw out woman put in a cross. I don't know. Me every time you know, Buster as a home run and belt is a two pump game. We should do a new poll. Let's just let's just wait. But the point is, you know Buster's playing great, but your point about the I would be in favor that I left. He closers are fine. There's been some great ones you know regarding. Did it for a long time. Gianfranco Billy the kid, you know, they think they're been good ones. Aroldis Chapman. I don't know. I've always felt more comfortable with righty In that spot because, you know Just you know that. I think they're more used to hitting off writings, but it's It's probably just some weird thing I have in my mind. You know, Sparky Lyle did that There's there's good lefties but anyway But I think the bigger issue is who's pitching more effectively. You could lose the game. You know we're gonna Hi, Jake McGee. He's gonna have to get out somewhere. S so what's going on with him is the bigger question right now And why?.
MLB Spring training: Which Players Have A Shot At Making the Giants' Team?
"One guy that stands out to me and we'll get to Luciano. We've talked so much about him and how exciting and tantalizing he is. But we're talking bullpen, arms and guys who have a legitimate shot to make this team and one of the parting gifts from Bobby Evans. It seems like one of these guys. Camilo dove all he's been in the system time now did we saw him against the Dodgers the other night? He is exciting, and I think is you put out carry the best hair in the Giants bullpen right now. Oh, yeah, he he does have the best care because last year they had a guy Rodolfo Martinez, who was a Johnny Cueto look like just with better dreadlocks than Johnny Cueto. If you can imagine that this year, they've got Camilo Jovel who does not have better dreadlocks. But he has died his dreadlocks, so they're like orangish Red, And I'm hoping that by the regular season he'll have in his Giants Orange, because could you imagine that coming out of the bullpen? Got weapon 97 98 with a cutter and the breaking off a nasty slider. And then all of a sudden he's got the closer like hair, Camilo Devil and you make a great point. He is a parting gift from Bobby Evans. And this is something that we should talk about. I should write about eventually is all the parting gifts from Bobby Evans because you're starting to see the fruit of the Giants International. Sign me focus coming through the system. Marco Luciano, a Bobby Evans guy, Alexander Canario, Bobby Evans Guy. Curving Castro, a Bobby Evans guy. And so the Giants are starting to see this focus that we saw in the like post 2014 2015 World Series era where they went down to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and other Latin American countries and sign some dudes and you're seeing that those dudes who they got when they were 16 17 years old are coming through this farm system and are going to be ready to contribute and so The village of all immediately popped out the other night against the Dodgers Cubs, But there's several other players, several other young players. Several other young pitchers who have really stood out so far. Well in another one is from the left side. Jake long this kid is from Sacramento. I think you would the Sac state or he's like up from the Northern California area. So he said. It was so funny. The quote I saw from him the other day was Buster Posey called him over to throw a bullpen and he called him by his name, and he was all stoked that Buster newest name because he's of that age group beauties like you and I. If Buster called us over, he'd be like, dude, that's Buster Posey calling my name so Him from the left side. You know, I hate to do the com thing, but I'm getting I'm getting Billy Wagner Vibes. Dude, What do you think? Billy Wagner vibes? That's that's fascinating. And so the reason I say that is because the jobs are actually building this guy up is a starter there. They're thinking of him a 97 from the left side, a guy with a hammer curveball and a good change up there looking at him as someone who could actually be in the rotation. And so when can't first started? Gabe Kapler traffic trump Buster Posey. They all said. Hey, pay some attention to this Sam Long guy. He's got something to him. And we're thinking, okay, This is just, you know, a guy who threw two good bullpens. You never know that happens every spring. He's probably a double A or maybe a triple a arm who could help them out of the bullpen Eventually. Then all of a sudden, he appears in the Cactus League opener against the Angels, and he has got major league stuff. No question in my mind after seeing him. Three pitches in I turn to Mark Sanchez in the press box. I go. I have seen enough. This guy can help the Giants right now, and I think that in keeping him as a starter and sending him down to triple A or double a to open up the season, you're potentially talking about someone copes who could somehow morphed his way into the Giants top pitching prospect and maybe beat Sean Jelly or Tristen back or some things other guys. The chance to excited about to the major league level. And so it's really fasting to see Sam Long come out of the bullpen because you're juxtaposing that with guys like Camilo, Javelin Caribbean Castro, who is another guy, Bobby Evan, signed who just has that hammer curve coming out of the bullpen 97. Very little mite early experience. But there are the pieces in place and you can correct me if I'm wrong. If you've seen anything differently, the first three or four days of spring training their pieces in place for the Giants to have one of the most exciting bullpens and Major league baseball and potentially one of the best is far as electricity goes like with stuff

"Maybe you don't have to go out inside Marcella Zuna, but Joey Barton Buster Posey are very different hitters. And you probably don't want to d h use it to 76 home Run hitter. No with Buster Posey be okay, accepting a part time role in 81 game a season role. Because if he is that I think that there's definitely a spot for him in the future in San Francisco Giants organization Beyond the 2021 season, which is his last guaranteed season with the club if he isn't And I think they're going to run into that inflection point a lot sooner than we think. Because After Joey Bart gets the necessary development, whether it be April May June that he needs in the minor leagues. He's gonna come up and be ready to start and when he's ready to start, he's not going to be an 81 game a year player. He's going to be a 131 35 1 40 Game a year player and that's where we run into issues. Any concern from what you saw last year offensively from from Bart didn't eat a single home run was driving the ball with regularity. Look, and I get everything that's going on. I'm assuming the answer is no. He just needs another half year of development. Is that the answer now I think there is legitimate concern you do You think I think I do think that there is legitimate concern? I also believe that Joey Barton will overcome the hurdles that he's gotten. His way. And right now, the hurdles are, he can't hit the breaking ball because he can't see it's a pretty big hurdle. Well, it is. But he also hasn't had the high level might early experience where guys learn, and he is someone who has thrived at every level of competition. He's someone who has adjusted on the fly. You know, you get him to San Jose. He gets hurt. But then when he comes back, he starts to really go on a tear. He goes up to Richmond struggles right away and double A, but then he starts to go on a tear. Had he opened the 2019 2020 season at Triple A. I think that you know, he was probably someone who who would have to 30 with one or two home runs the beginning the PCL season and by July he probably would have in the Sacramento River Cats. Best player. The Giants didn't have that scenario in 2020, and I do think that Julie Bart is strong enough mentally strong enough physically and just Good enough baseball player to overcome the breaking ball issue and eventually be a middle of the order here for this chance, so I should hang on to my Joey Barton rookie cards not used to this bicycle spokes, which it depends on how how well he performs this season. All right. Keep an eye on that. We'll talk more about all things Giants in baseball with with Hank Shulman and retirement right and retirement. That's all coming up here. Scott Reese carry Crowley rolling along here and the four o'clock hour on can be. Are these sports leader? She can't be on.

"On the stove, and you get that clicking noise about nothing happens terrible every time So you know, when we go on the road in baseball, I like to stay in like a Springhill Suites Marriott because they've got the opportunity for you to at least make it dinner. Never actually have done it. But I like the idea of making dinner and the road. Yes. So I'll stay at one of those with a little kitchenette. I'll go in there and look at the stove, and there's just no shot that it's ever turning on. E mean, it sounds just like that, if you ever wanted to try, that's what it would sound like minus the flame. At the end of that just comes so if I were to tell you that the Giants today signed a relief pitcher with a career e R a of 3.12. Would you be excited? I think there's a lot of people who would be. Well, they did. Yeah. If I told you that man's name is John Bravia, Would you be excited? I think there's a lot of people who wouldn't be. This is I mean, this is a typical far anxiety. Move upside low Risk job. Rabia, Tommy John Surgery June 3rd 2020 and what That means is the giant sign into one year $800,000 contract essentially to be their trade deadline acquisition in 2021, you know you look at the timeline for relievers coming back from Tommy John Surgery. 12 13 months. Rabia Guy, Great setup man for the Cardinals the past few years, he comes in when the Giants were theoretically Be making a playoff push, Theoretically going to be looking for four to fortify their bullpen and John Breath be. It can be that guy and will acquire him for almost nothing and the kicker here. Is that he's a guy with a 3.14 career e R A. But he's under team control for two more seasons. Beyond that, that is what matters. It's not what matters to fans because he is not Trevor Bauer. He is not Liam Hendriks. He is not someone who is going to cost them. 50 plus million dollars is a free Asian, but he's someone who could be a really useful piece for this Giants bullpen. The question is after you have enough useful pieces. You have enough star power to push you over the top, And that is the question on Look, the Giants need more star power. No question. Is there any chance that star power arrives in the 2020 2021 hot stove season? Or is this more a 2021 2022 hot stove season? If enough teams decide that Trevor Bauer is asking price, which is probably A little higher than we think. Right now. It's probably you know, 125 150 million. He definitely deserves more than Zack Wheeler got a few off seasons go with the Philadelphia Phillies. So if enough teams decided, you know, the Mets, the Angels the Padres, they all say this isn't worth it. And the Giants can't bring the price down a little bit and feel like they're getting a fairer value for the reigning 2020 and outside Young award winner then, yes, The Star Power will arrive. If Rob Manfred Major League Baseball say that the designated hitter is coming to the nationally you can count on it. We have reached an agreement to make sure that picture's never had again. Then maybe Marcel Ozuna signs with the San Francisco Giants because he would fit really well in this lineup when you start to pencil it out on a napkin. But until those things happen, I have a hard time believing that the Giants are not going to just do more of the same, which is, you know, buy low and then potentially sell high or potentially keep guys who are serviceable pieces for your roster of the trade deadline Well, and I should mention Henry Schulman is going to join us in just a few minutes to talk more Giants. Now he's gonna talk, retired. Hey, he's gonna talk of life on the golf course. Right. Well, we'll see if we can force him. Torun, a little baseball. Um First of all the D H thing. We may not know until the 11th hour now, so I mean, there's definitely a way this is going to go scot with the D. H and it's the 11th hour. Like you said. It is the way that we saw it happen in 2020 with the delay of the Major league baseball season, the DHS something that both sides will say, though both use that as a bargaining chip. Even though Major league baseball owners and players want it. It will be somehow floaters, a bargaining chip on both sides. And I'll say okay to reach an agreement on lowering the number of games these teams play, whether it be 120 140. Whatever it is, we'll institute the D H and they'll do it. At such a late point the off season that it hurts. Nationally, teams like the Giants were building toward 2021. Well, and so a guy like Nelson Cruz, you're saying we'll already have reserved his spot in a retirement community somewhere in Florida, and he's gonna get a phone call saying, Hey, dog. Guess what you can't play in the National League. Nelson Cruz will be hitting 80 home runs a year in a senior circuit in Florida. I have no doubt about that. But, yeah, it's going to be like that. And that's why I don't think someone like Marcel Ozuna should sign because your market right now 15 teams. Your market The N H. If the NL has a D H 30 teams, theoretically I. Then there's gonna be teams like the Rays and Theeighties that just won't spend. They don't want Ozuna. But I think there's a team like the Giants that could look at him and say he is the hitter that can put this team over the top. I have no doubt about that. Because when you pencil it out, Mike is trying to get the top of the order. Alex Dickerson, batting second, You want a right handed hitter? Bad third. We don't want Buster Posey or Joey Barton. That slot you want Marcel Ozuna, and so as much as they're focused on adding pitching, and that has to be the priority for the Giants this offseason. I think you look at a guy like that. Do you think This lineup could score five plus runs Game six plus runs regularly if you have him, and if you don't it's probably closer to four. Then maybe five. All right. So you mentioned Buster. Let's let's go there, right, opting out last year. Haven't seen him in in a in a full year now, Um he will be the starting catcher, right? They've already come out and said, he's our peas are starting catcher. It was not that long ago. You know, you go back three or four years when the Giants were still in the championship window, right? And there was rampant speculation about Buster's future behind the plates, and you know, almost a foregone conclusion that, you know, Look when he's 30 31. He's gonna move out from behind the plate because, you know, obviously you can't catch for 20 years and still be that effective. You know, he's a athletic enough that a good enough defender in the infield to put him in third. Put him at first. Whatever you gotta do, you know to prolong his Rear and keep the bat in the lineup and that sort of thing. Now. Here we are, And you know you've got a new inflection point coming at some point, right? You've got Joey Barton. You're right. So you also expended your first round pick last year on the catcher. So you've got catchers of the future. But you also have a current version of Buster Posey that unless there is some dramatic turnaround after a year off has become a to 76 home run kind of guy, and you can't have a corner infielder hitting 2 70 with six home runs. So where does this leave us with Buster Posey Beyond, say, the first. I don't know half of this coming season. Well, the 2018 to season proved once and for all like you said that Buster Posey was probably gonna be a 2 70 to 86 home run guy the rest of his career. And it also proved that you have to keep him at the catcher position. Buster Posey is not valuable first base like you said, because you have to hit home runs. They're not valuable Third place. You have to move and you have to hit home runs. Buster Posey is not doing that. Where is his most valuable? Or where is his most value? It's actually not in hitting 2 70. It's what he does and doing a great job defensively. Exactly. It's he doesn't incredible job defensively and you go back to 1018. That's when the hip Was a huge issue for him throughout the season, And that's when the Giants finally realized, okay, we're gonna keep him behind the plate. We're gonna keep him behind the play probably forever. And so you're looking at this season, you're thinking. Well, we'd like Joey Barton, but to be behind the plate weeks used the number two overall pick on Joey Bart back in 2018. And you wonder, how are they going to manage this? If the D H comes the National League That I think that you can probably switch those guys off..

You're gouging me. Can you drive it all the way to Western New York State and then also come back and then go down to Southern California, not gouge me. I've told you I have many years. The Item that I bought for the holidays was less expensive in the actual transporting. The item across the country. Many I think Well, now there's been some years when I took care of my mean Daddy. They're driven years where it's been higher. I mean, you acted. I tried to get my parents down early, but this year getting them done early. It's not early. On their hard to buy for anyway, But there are many in years. You know me. I like to shop, right? I like to feel the holidays and do it late and I know what you know. It's just a cost of doing business. I do it that way personally, because I enjoy it that way. But even this year Um, So the better question for our hairy legged ups driver if he's listening and wants to chime in The cut off a Tuesday. That's just if I'm using the Postal Service, right if I if I'm using it outside Company to do it. They can still get it there overnight, right if we choose that, Yeah, you could over pay. And, yeah, I think so. So over fed, Yeah. Yeah, well, I mean, yeah. If you wanna make it overnight or two day or they still do that Yeah, I did that because the Dallas Cowboys just send me their packet and it arrived a day later than normal, but I think it's just the volume of it, but that was sent overnight. So I can still do it my way and use Now with his snide remark. I may not be using his services. It could be something else. He's not being snide all he actually put us like a lot. I'm well aware of that. I don't see it being over paying its options. And all the facts come in that I make the decision and then transporting with my decision is going to cost me more money, and I'm willing to absorb that. Do that, for? It was like you said it Z and I'm like trying to get to it. I just think it's and you've you've said this numerous times over the years is that everybody does their holidays differently, right? So you like to feel the last minute burn it just kind of it kind of does something to you. So I get it. Well, actually, what it is, is usually working every single day and like like for there's instance that I'm taking the show. I'm not working on the 24th. You are So I won't be able to get my mom's gift on that. But I'm all found the I'm gonna have to work the 23rd evening as well. But I'm not gonna take it that long. I'm gonna do it, Uh, today. But I I I love shopping on Christmas Eve and a lot of Christmas days I've had to work and I've had to work if your Christmas seasons well. But I, there's nothing better. I shouldn't say that. But few things. There's make me as happy as get my daughters and all the kids all round it up, and we go out early on Christmas Eve morning. Shop all day. It's just fun. It's just I like doing that now. The problem with my parents, I can't do that. Cause I got a second to send them across the country so that their day normally go first and all my other kids are coming home. Everybody's coming home. Except for Derek. He's staying down on Southern Cal, so I just got to send one gift or, you know Few items to Western New York state. I've got a week to do that and also send an item or two to Southern California. I think I'll be able to figure that out. Maybe I just drive it to Derek. I could do that, too. That's true. You could do that. Yeah. The other issue because basically everybody staying around here, right, so like there's no travel. My kids. Aaron, stay Don't live here, but they're coming home. I don't have a lot of people are treating. You were on the highways yesterday as I was, people are going somewhere. It was gridlock yesterday. It was quiet. People traveled for the holidays for Thanksgiving. They did. I got slammed. I didn't I talk to you at the Thanksgiving. Was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and I won in the city, and that was insane Traffic. Insane, so maybe people are traveling less by airplane. But they're they're traveling in their cars and going here and there, so I'm not sure about that. It would seem to be moving around at the same kinda, certainly not under lockdown or whatever we're under, you know, shelter in place for stay at home. I don't think people are doing that well, and and that's the whole thing is, you know you love to get your kids out of town or something that they've been sitting around and doing these kind of things, but you know, we were originally Over over my break. We're gonna go see my mom. We're gonna go over to Hawaii, and she told this week's Yeah, like that's not happening. Everything is going to close down in the West Coast and all that. So then we're sitting around going one. We're gonna do sit for two more weeks, but you just kind of don't have a choice, but a lot of people like you said. I'm not going to do it and everybody who's sitting there trying to you know. We're on lockdown. No way. Not based on yesterday when I saw what you saw. This is their people are doing almost to the end of this. There was no light at the end of the tunnel for so long. Now there's a light. It is a vaccine. So you see the light. You know they're so Enter back, at least gonna join us coming up. Next we did talk to with Scott Harris will talk about those things. But originally why we wanted to have him on is obviously he spoke with Buster Posey recently. What's Buster thinking? What kind of shape is Buster in? What does he think of the catching competition with the Giants. Obviously Gabe Kapler waiting on its We'll talk to bags all about the Giants with a specific look at Buster Posey will do it coming up next. Only here on the sports leader.
