"You know, clear out there, you know, throw your fat. You know, charge the mound. You just take the next pitch and you hit it into the seats. And my eyes, my Shannon and it was something about baseball, the two time World Series winner as a player, longtime cardinals, broadcaster, passed away Tim on Saturday night. He was 83 years old. And man, what a great character. You know, David Cohn said before our Sunday Night baseball game when we were all together, he was like, and that guy lived a great life. He really did. And again, buster to repeat. I'm 66 years old, so the 1967 world series was still fresh in my mind. It might Shanna was the starting third baseman on a championship team for the Cardinals and the third base from the next year. Against a Tiger. So I watched him play an awful lot. Remember, he started as an outfielder. They needed him to move into third and he did. And I'll never forget Joe Torrey once described Mike Shannon as, well, he's the kind of guy who would catch trucks with his teeth, which just explains he wasn't afraid of anything or any anybody. He's going to stand there and you're going to have to hit him in the face before you're going to beat him. That's how tough a player Mike Shannon was finished 7th in the MVP boating one year so he's a very good player and I loved him as an announcer because of calls like that buster where he recognized I've been hit I've been thrown at before and there is no better there is no better revenge and hit the ball out of the ballpark. I love Mike Shannon. I had so many great chats with him. I learned so much about baseball from him and I will miss him dearly. Tim, thanks for doing this. Thank you, buster. Bleacher tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a Tuesday. We got a lot of Yankee panic among the bleacher tweeters, Corey rucher writes in if Cole isn't pitching and judges and playing the Yankees are bad team true or false depth is bad and how is hicks still getting at bats cam at canon cam 6 6 6 rates and thoughts on the Yankees the roster is a mess and in my opinion cashman in the front office are to blame player character and health assessment and trades and free agent signings have been poor. They've needed a bat or to the past few years and he's bargain shopping. What gives Zack beast and also similar sentiments there asking if it's time to panic, what do you think? Yeah, so now I understand why I mixed the bandwidth to salvo with Corey rucher, because I had put Cory's tweet down or had noted it at the top. But it was nice. Andrew desalvo sending in those birthday wishes for Sarah. Corey Kim Zac, look, I don't think the Yankees are a bad team without coal without judge, but you definitely feel like how thin the roster is. You know, when you take out a couple of big stores like that, actually had question conversations with folks over the weekend about the Yankee spending during the winter time. It did feel like they had some opportunities, you know, to add some veteran outfielders, you know, a couple agents told me that, for example, if the Yankees would throw like an extra million bucks at someone like a Robbie Grossman who's off to a really good start for the rangers, they don't why not. I mean, that to me is one place where the Yankees can really flex their financial muscles where you know, let's say you give a Robbie Grossman an extra million bucks and then if he's not playing well early in the year, then you just get rid of them or you dump them off to another team or one of the young players establishes themselves in spring training. Wins the job, then you ship Robbie Grossman to another team. That felt like an opportunity missed to add a JK Grossman. That sort of thing, just to round out the roster. Do you hate to see a buster, all these Yankees? Oh, I bet your heart broken. So sad, sorry everyone. Jill Seb Schwab writes in, would pitchers consider wearing a glove like quarterbacks to help with gripping the baseball. I know the texture of the balls are different, but it could help in cold or rainy weather. Thank you. Thank you, Joe. Joe, that's interesting. You know, I've actually never seen a picture. Think about that or try that, and yeah, there are quarterbacks who use the glove. That always confused me a little bit. You know, that quarterbacks would feel comfortable doing that, but it tells you a lot about the quality of the gloves and maybe that is part of the solution. I just don't think pitchers would get would feel in a moment like that's something that they would do on a regular basis and the way the quarterbacks do. Matt at kayaking Smith writes in is this Sean Murphy, the, is that the best off season trade of the winner, especially consider they swapped him with an all star in Contreras. Yeah, doesn't it feel like they sold low too? Like when you think about what they gave up to get a player that good, who is now locked up for years to come, braves are in a great spot with them. Genius move, Austin Leclair at big red ten 44 rates. And what is the downfall of the pirates, they look unstoppable right now, even though they are plain teams like the nationals. I don't know if there is a downfall for the pirates. Now, do I think they're going to win two thirds of their games the whole year? Of course not. But the context is important. They're in the national league central. You know, the cardinals look terrible right now. The brewers are playing better than I think people expected, but it's not like they're a dynamic team. The cubs are playing better than some people expected. They're not a dynamic team. And of course, the Cincinnati reds are not really going to challenge for the top of that division. So I'm not sure that the pirates are necessarily going to be caught during the course of the season. "Bleacher tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a Friday, no rant today for me. Yeah, there is a rant today. I'm jumping in here. You have the day off with your rant. And we rightly deferred to the white sucks fan. I had that tremendous rant. But I gotta say, the word yesterday that we heard that the Atlanta Braves home run celebration with that oversized cap has been put off, that really bothered me. What happened was the new era who, of course, makes all the baseball caps for Major League Baseball. According to the braves organization, something they confirmed to WSB TV, new era basically put the kibosh on it because they didn't manufacture this particular hat. So when a brave player has hit an has hit a home run, he puts on the oversized hat, everyone. Woohoo. In the dugout, they kind of go crazy and it's fun. But because it's not the right brand of hat, Major League Baseball has shut that down. What do you think? That is so weak. I mean, are they going to go to the angels and be like, well, that samurai helmet isn't new era, so it's got to get out of the dugout. Kid out of here with that. That's frigging nonsense. It feels silly or and I don't know if it's cable that how about new era rather than complain, just quietly manufactured something like that and give that to the braves and quietly, they could just say, look, use this one for the next one. The players probably wouldn't even notice. It feels like there's some other way to deal with this other than to shut down that Homer hat. I honestly think that's embarrassing for new era. In my humble opinion, and I think that is horrible marketing, horrible advertising on their part because they're just ruining the fun of the moment. And like you said, if they quietly done it, none of us would have known. But now just come on, that's embarrassing. And to even say quietly, the whole bit is that it's an oversized hat. Slap an oversized new era logo on the side of it. And you're gonna see it all season while they're having fun. What could be a better endorsement and advertisement for your product? A truly. What a mess. Come on, get it together, new era. Yeah, I know. And then you and I mean, none of us really know if they can actually do that. But there would seem to be some other way to deal with it than just to shut down. It really you're going to have a big fight over this particular hat. I don't get it. Baseball, get in its own way. Again, people are just trying to have fun. Don't want them to do it. All right. Let's go to the tweets here. Jaw Tai Joe our pal, jatai Joe 87 writes and because my rays have been off to the start they have been, I feel like Taylor's Orioles haven't gotten the appreciation they deserve quietly building the second best record in the American League big shout out to the O's for being so much fun to watch. I agree, ja. They're great. They're great. You guys are giving it a tip of the cap. Here we go. Yeah, and I got a shout out the Orioles group chat that is growing by the day amongst my friends here. We have a celebrity in there Jorge Mateo's father, not really, but someone who claims to be his father is in the text group. It's been a lot of fun over there. Eager to watch them tonight against the tigers. Andrew salvo at de Salvation, right? And do you think Major League Baseball will ever move away from divisions in just go to the best records and the AL and NL are seated top to bottom in the league playoffs? Does that have to be collectively bargained or MLB or can they just decide how the playoffs work? Yeah. Well, it does have to be collectively bargained. The whole playoff structure does it goes through it goes through the negotiations in the end when they get these two expansion teams you're going to have 8 divisions of 14s and we're never going to go back to the full standings the way you describe them and yes, baseball has done that through the 1968 season and then they went to divisions in 1969 and they're not going back. All right, Brian role at baseball Brian writes in. I'd like to cosign with Taylor said about the Yankees being some of the worst. I'm a Yankees fan and a lot of times I'm embarrassed by them. Michael Preston, who tweeted me a picture of a kangaroo in his front yard, by the way. Michael Preston says, same mate. Yankees all the time. Casual. But Yankees all the way, but the fan base can be ultra toxic and I mean, I think every fan base has that toxic side to them. And I think just the bigger fan bases, it's more amplified just because there's more of them, honestly. So don't get too down, Brian and Michael. Well, I would say this. You know, you asked players, you know, visiting players. What are the toughest ballparks to go into? And there's no doubt. Well, you know, a lot of players will mention Oakland because there are fewer fans and they're more passionate. And so they hear every word that every fan says in Oakland, proposing players we'll talk about Yankee fans. And feel like it is a different atmosphere. In fact, during the 2017 playoffs, I think it was Carlos Beltran after they lost three straight games in Yankee Stadium. Hauled together the Astros and tried to calm the players because he felt like they were so affected by the crowd and Yankee Stadium and how much they were getting on the Astros. Yankees fans are annoying, but I do respect their home field advantage. I hate what is that noise that they play when someone strikes out. That is so irritating to me. That's from the Star Wars isn't that from the start, you know, one of the descendants of Star Wars movies. I will actually want to say it is a PC Richard and sons jingle from a commercial. I might go when they strike out. I thought you meant the two strikes sound, but the horns blowing with two strikes. That's annoying, but the strikeout noise. It just irritates me to no end. So a nice job here. Okay. Well, you're an Orioles fan, too. Let's get the proper context here. Yeah, absolutely. Paul Anderson is our last tweet of the week at P underscore a underscore Anderson. He writes in, I get why owners don't want to expansion, I get why owners want expansion. Excuse me, finances, but how can they justify it on field? There aren't enough major league caliber players to stock the existing 30 teams. Where do they think they'll get 52 more or do they not care? I think that they have 52 more within Major League Baseball. But what's gone on in recent years is some teams are like, we're not trying to get the best players. We're just trying to have no payroll. That's where Oakland is this year. I don't think that people would be talking as much about a water down product. If not for the fact that you actually had teams competing for the services of the best players. That's what's terrible. That's what, you know, when you have owners and we've seen a bunch of them in the last ten, 12 years, basically decide we're just going to cut our payroll the bone. We're not even going to try. I think if you actually had teams trying and being willing to spend that the product would be much better than it is now, I do think they've got enough talent for 32 teams. Already, there you have it. Hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter while you're watching games this weekend and as we discussed with Sarah Lang's, we will be back on Tuesday for her birthday. And before we go, I just want to talk about Marley Ribera. I want to say that I have absolutely loved working with Marley, a great teammate, just one example. I remember we were working on she was working for doing a baseball tonight before Sunday Night game between the Yankees and the mets. And she and I were sort of trading notes about this little issue that was going on between the two teams, the mets players thought the Yankee players or whistling and tipping pitches and then Francisco Lindor hit a home run and he was yelling at the Yankees and then the Yankees yelling back, we were able to report it in real time in part because of Marley's work. And she's always someone since they started getting to know her and started to work with her. She's always been someone who shared and I look forward to seeing her again. That's it for today. My thanks to rich hill, Sarah Carl Sarah and Taylor, have a great day everybody. Thanks for listening. Stay safe and remember, hey Danny quality based on skin color is something we need to fight against every single day.

"You just hand a baseball out that works for everybody. Right, yeah, and I think the other side of it is that we're putting the umpires in an extremely difficult position where the judge jury and executioner for lack of a better term is kind of being sought after by, you know, where is the kind of line of demarcation? Because if you use the rosin and you work the rosin and you're able to do that in max's case, you're able to get your hand extremely tacky. But is that illegal? Because it shouldn't be when you're talking about what we're given as a tool to be able to be able to get a better grip on the ball. And, you know, I fully a 100% believe max and what he was saying. And I think it's, you know, again, like I said, it's a difficult position that we're putting the umpires in because they have to make a decision and a choice where it, to me, it just seems like it's almost, you know, you're asked yourself this question, have you ever been wrong in your life, right? And I think we can all say, yes, we have, right? So in these circumstances and these instances of high stakes poker, you know, you have to be a 120% right. There's no really dipping your toe in the water. And there's no way to judge that, right? So I think, you know, in max's case where he used the rosin and it is what it is. That's what's been given to us. And unfortunately, you know, at the same time, you know, that's something that is, how do you kind of gauge that and say, oh, well, that's too much. But it's the rosin that you've been using. So I don't understand how that's even close to being on the scale of not kosher, I guess, if you want to say. But I would like to see, I know Major League Baseball is working on a bowl, you know, speaking with some officials from the majority of just one quick thought I will say as an observer of the sport for a lot of years, to hear about baseball, Major League Baseball, when they talk about, well, we're working in a ball. We got a prototype. It reminds me of the Oakland ballpark situation. How many years have been in hearing about a prototype? Sorry. Go ahead. No, I mean, yeah. We may not see it in the next 5 years. But hopefully we do. And I think that's an acknowledgment of understanding that there is an issue. And, you know, from major leagues, the offices standpoint that they know that something is not right. And we need to make it right for the pitchers and make it a competitive competitively even balanced field. Yes, did it go too far in one direction? Of course it did. But now is it go the other direction where pitchers can't get a grip on the ball and you're seeing walks at an all time high this year. You're seeing guys getting hit from the shoulder up, which to me is now a health and safety issue. Possibly the injuries that are increasing throughout the game. You know, where we see that Major League Baseball is working on a ball. To be able to create, you know, a pitcher being able to get his a pitch off every single time. How are you going to be able to identify that it is over the line or on the other side? I always say the biggest factor is the weather and your environment. That's going to dictate your grip. Just as, you know, when you go to throw a football in the cold air, you can't get the same grip on it as you would in a July day in the heat. And the same thing for wide receivers. You know, guys are making one handed grabs that they weren't making in the 90s or the 80s and sure as anything decades before that. And is that an advantage? You go to if you're familiar with hockey, the sticks now are very grippy. You almost don't even need hockey gloves to go out there besides the protect your hands to grip the stick. The flex on the stick, all these things. Everything is evolving technology wise. We're talking about the PGA is talking about rolling back the ball. In the PGA to be able to, you know, kind of make the golf courses kind of be more compatible with not having to, you know, they're running out of land. So there's not enough room. So what are they going to do? They're going to roll the ball back. But anyway, my point is, is that for pitchers, why is it illegal for pitchers to get a grip on the baseball? We're not talking about an advantage. We're talking about getting a grip to be able to consistently throw your a pitch. And I don't see it. I don't see a reason that that is a problem. Because that was a hitter, you know, you can use whatever you want, lizard skin, super 77, all these things that I've seen. That's a pine tar, rosin, whatever you need to be able. And it's proven that, you know, if we look now at the science, which was done for pitchers because you could quantify everything now, you know, the more you can hold onto your bat, you can take a faster swing. So is that an advantage, right? So the better grip you have on the handle of the bat is that an advantage for the hitter. Now, in my opinion, I would say, you know, whatever. As long as you need to get a grip on it because that's your profession, you should be able to you should be allowed to

I mean, they might do anything at any time. You're managing in some of the younger managers. You're kind of managed against the computer sometimes, you know? And it's like, okay, you know, what would the computer do here, but you know, I'm like, okay, what's Bruce thinking about over there? You know, that's probably the hardest part. He says, I know this has become kind of a famous quote, but after he wins the World Series, who called who reached out Obama Snoop Dogg, do you remember after any of your three who reached out to you? Bruce reached out to me. He did, did you call him? Yeah. Yeah, you know, I know, I'm trying to think most money boys were from Melbourne, high school, buddies, but now I had a lot of friends, trust me, and you're grateful, you know. When you hear from somebody because it only means something, you can share it with other people, your family and friends, so that's what makes it special. So you did call him though. That phone call that's important. Yeah, you know, you know, dusty and I have really were on the same team at one time when he had a little break there. He worked with the Giants, so he'd come by and he hang on a cage, we catch up and stop, so, you know, I was so happy for him and he'd been doing this long time. He's been close and so the whole world was happy for him. I know the city of Houston was. You got two great teams. Your team is rebuilding. You keep winning and World Series. Have you ever thought about on your own terms when you want this to end? Yeah, I thought about it. And I'm not sure. I mean, you know it's good. I don't have too much longer. That's for sure. But I'm gonna enjoy this while I have it. Because like I said, I've been out three different times when I work with you. Yeah, ESPN for two years at a time. And so

"A bridge between baseball's classic jewel box stadiums, like Fenway and Wrigley, and the concrete donuts of the 60s and 70s in cities like St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Memorial stadium was erected on the site of a previous park that had hosted a minor league baseball team also called the Orioles, as well as big football games, including the army navy game. The new Baltimore memorial stadium went up in the years immediately following World War II and was immediately expanded upon and modified as the prospects of Baltimore rejoining the major leagues became real. Charm city's history with big league baseball dated back to the very origins of the game, but the American League's Orioles evaporated after only two years in 1902, and Baltimore remained a large minor League City until the St. Louis browns moved there in 1954. The new Orioles, these are today's Orioles, made their home debut on a blustery rainy afternoon, April 15th, 1954 in front of 46,354 fans. The most recent prior big league game in Baltimore played on September 20th, 1902, a tracked a crowd and I'm using air quotes of just 138 people buster. Memorial stadium was not entirely ready. Scaffolding still covered parts of the ballpark, and some paving still needed to be done, but big league ball was back after a half century, and that's all that mattered. The Orioles and their football neighbors, the Baltimore colts, changed the city's captured the city's imagination in the 1950s and 60s. Born from the ashes of the hapless St. Louis browns, the Orioles developed a legendary farm system and became legitimate contenders as the 60s dawned. They won the first of three World Series titles in 1966, the season that MVP Frank Robinson became the only player to hit a ball entirely out of the ballpark there. On Mother's Day that year, he connected off Cleveland right hander, Louis Tian, and launched a ball up out and over the left field bleachers, a flag was later added to the point where the Titanic shot left the ballpark, which simply read here. The 1966 title was supplemented with the world championships in 1970 and 83, but the team's home park was starting to become a liability. Neighborhood traffic and parking were never good there, and there were many obstructed view seats. In the mid 70s, the oils played without a lease for two years. And they're expired agreement required them to play only 70 games there with no obligations at all beyond 1980. Rumors of a full-time move to Washington were real. And as the Orioles least situation annually stagnated, the colts bolted town in the middle of the night in March 1984. In June of that year, the Orioles agreed to move to a new downtown ballpark at Camden yards, thus saving the team for charm city. Memorial stadium's last Orioles game took place on October 6th, 1991, 7 to one lost to the Detroit tigers in front of a sellout crowd of 50,000 fans. The old ballpark lived on for a few years, but as time eventually came for it to be demolished. Starting in early 2001, the old gray lady of 33rd street was slowly taken apart. 10,000 cubic yards of concrete rubble from the stadium was used to build an artificial reef in the Chesapeake Bay. The site of the ballpark eventually gave way to a mixed use development called stadium place. Near the heritage run maintenance free senior living center. There lies a baseball diamond, which marks the site a big youth sports park built by the Cal Ripken senior foundation. It's called memorial field at the Y go there, imagine the robinsons, Brooks and Frank, along with Jim polymer Earl weaver, Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken junior, and others, and give thought to memorial stadium, which is this week's forgotten field. And Todd, you and I have talked about this before, a no ballpark closed more appropriately than what happened with memorial. Anybody who wants to watch that should go find this on YouTube, I've gone back and looked at it two or three times because it was just so moving. What they did is that the fans didn't really know what was going to happen after that loss to Detroit. Mike flanagan through the final pitch for the Orioles in that game longtime oriole pitcher, the game ends, and they basically tell the fans hey, there's something, you know, be ready. And then these former oriole players began to emerge from the home dugout in uniform. And one by one, Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, and without a word being spoken by the PA announcers because the fans all knew who these guys were. And eventually all the starting pitchers from the 1970 Orioles all go out together. You know, the four 20 game winners from 1971, Jim Palmer and Dave McGowan, it was just so well done and of course I think the last player if I remember correctly who went on the field was Cal Ripken junior. Helping to close the ballpark. That was anybody who loved sentimentality in baseball connected together should go back and watch that. Yes, would you echo me? I would and it really set the tone along with the closing of comiskey park just shortly before that for a slew of ballpark closings, including Yankee Stadium and Shea stadium in New York and Tiger stadium in Detroit, but buster, the dynamics of a smaller city like Baltimore and this very rich storied history in a kind of concentrated amount of time really made that a very magical ceremony. And I only went to one ball game at memorial stadium, but it really strikes me still, again, in the middle of this residential neighborhood, a high school across the street, such a kind of strange but very cool experience. Yeah, it was phenomenal. And the connection, you mentioned the connection in a small city between the team and the fans, so many of those oriole players lived in Baltimore not only during their careers, but afterward. Because they just enjoyed it so much. And that was part of the connection with memorial. All right, let's get to this week's quiz. All right, here we go. It is week 6 of our quiz, everybody. We have been hearing a lot about the 1884 St. Louis maroons, who were members of the short lived union association. So here's this week's question. Which one of these teams was not a member of the union association? Was it a, the Brooklyn bridges? Was it be the Pittsburgh stogies, was it C, the Baltimore monumentals, or was it D, the Kansas City cowboys, not a member of the union association, the Brooklyn bridges, the Pittsburgh stogies, the Baltimore monumentals, or the Kansas City cowboys? All right, Sarah, you can go first. Oh, why do I have to go first? Because it's a total guess and we're all in the same boat. A, the Brooklyn bridges. Taylor? I'll go with the Baltimore monumentals. Oh boy. We sing in Brooklyn bridges. I was trying to remember the time frame in which

"Love the fact that trout sounded so bummed. Like this is probably like 15 minutes after the game and he really sounded bummed. Mark derosa manager of Team USA talked about the game coming down to trout versus ohtani. I was just thinking about all the people around the world watching a game like this is it never usually plays out like that. And I was just saying, I just wanted to lead off hitter on. Jeff, I mean, we couldn't ask Jeff gets that works that nasty walk and then we have two of the best players in the game back to back going against Otani with Goldie behind him. I felt confident. I really did. So but I was well aware. I was like, wow, the baseball world is going to win tonight regardless. Yeah, we'll get the numbers later today, but I fully expect this will be the most watch game and maybe the most watched moment in the history of baseball. Derosa talked about ohtani being a unicorn. Do you know what blows me away on the stage, Tyler is the fact that he seems to like no moments too big for him. I mean, he did not seem like rattled by walking Jeff McNeil on a close pitch down. Not rattled that, like you said, three MVPs were coming up to bat. Like you said, I've analyzed them for years since he's come over here. What he's doing in the game is what probably 90% of the guys in that Clubhouse did in little league or in youth tournaments. And he's able to pull it off on the biggest stages. He is a unicorn to the sport. I think other guys will try it, but I don't think they're going to do it to his level. Yeah, completely agree with what derosa said we've been talking about on the podcast. You know, there might be a generation of players who try to do what ohtani's doing is a two way player, but I have my doubts as to whether or not anybody could pull it off ever. And that's how unbelievable Otani has been. You know, being that dominant of a pitcher, he threw the fastest pitch in this tournament, a 102 mph last night, the fastest pitch, by the way, he's ever thrown since he came to the United States, and he also had the hardest hit ball, a 118 mph plus. From the shift rule to bigger bases to the pitch clock, a new era in baseball has arrived. We're just 8 days away from the start of opening day and free ESPN. Tell me about your experience when Turner hit that Grand Slam the other night. What was it like? Oh my gosh. I mean, you're splendidly loud. I mean, the most amazing thing has been just the level decibel level of all of the cheers from every country, all of the bands, but I think back to being in the World Series and Philadelphia, this past November October, November. And those games were some allowed to decide ever been to. Then you add in calves and trumpets and noise makers and all these things that we have in the sand there'll be C and it was one of those kinds of moments and I will say it's a researcher. Most think he has I have the list of grand slams ready and you just kind of get that feeling that moment as he's absolutely so I did have the worst ready to go. I knew what the note was. So not saying I called and not taken that credit that's just planning ahead, but it was quite the moment and I mean that was an amazing back and forth game. Yeah, it really was. It was so much fun. Seeing soccer pitch tonight, that's going to be so much fun. The idea that potentially you'd have Japan against the United States and the championship game, that'll be really cool. Let's play the numbers game. Number three number three is four. So speaking of trade turns, I thought I was all out of trade turn their notes after he hit that Grand Slam. And then he comes back the next day, still the number 9 hitter because that's how good that U.S. line of business needs to home run. So he now has four overall in the tournament, which are the most by any Team USA player in a single WBC and high for the second most overall buy anyone in a single WBC behind only 2006 year plea of Korea who had 5. So we know now tray Turner gets one more game. We'll see if he's able to add to that or maybe even break it. Who knows? He also has ten RBIs, which are tied with 2013 David Wright and do them 6 Ken griffey junior for the most by anyone on team ASA. In a single WBC tied with them and others for third most overall, but very important to know the record there is 12. In 2017 by a Latin American of the Netherlands here, 12 there's lots of player in 2009 who had 11, but this is an important, not just for trade Turner. But also for most in talking, you should understand tonight's game also with town. Number two number two is a 112. So this kind of got berries last night because of the game that Trey Turner had. The person today 112 mile an hour home run. I watched every game. He played last year. One MVP, great player. Hitting the ball hard is not really his thing. He's obviously an outstanding hitter. I see that one 12 on baseball and I was like laundry if there's anything there. So last year en route to winning again the national league MVP award. Only a one bath ball hit harder than that. The entire season there was one 12.3. A single on May 13th. And only three of his major league home runs track by sarcasm back to 2015 have been hit harder than a 112. So again, I was standing there hitting the ball hard not to think, but he did it last night. Number one number one is bulldog with 56. So I want to talk about roki sasaki who you mentioned earlier. He's 21 years old. Hopefully you've heard of him by now. I know David Cohn picked him and says what was it best thing I saw this week at some point during the baseball last year? He threw a perfect game and the ball of up that perfect game with another 8 ending perfect outing. We got removed due to a pitch count. It was 20 then. Now he's 21. He is a joy to watch. I'm so excited for animal bends to get to see so that 56 was the wif rate, the team against the Czech Republic. When he lost pitch in this tournament, 39 swings 22 of those were missed. Wow. Only one pitcher so it's 56.4 for me specific. Only one pitcher has a new whiff rate. That high ending at least 35 swings in an MLB game. Since the start of 2020 and of course, it will Jacob Jerome. In August of last year, 15 9.5. And the other thing that's very, of course, Jacob de grand with him, he threw 21 pitches at a lethal an hour in that game. Yeah, I've heard a 100.1 on his anger. So here's the full list of starting pitchers with at least 2100 mil in our pitches and MLB game. Since we have tracking, which goes back to 2000 names. Hunter reigns 7 times, of course. Jacob Jerome twice know a sinner guard twice and then Nathan baldy Jordan hicks and James Parker. So get ready for winning the myth and amazing boss today. All right, so I'm going to give you the power, you know, as you know, a lot of coming out that I think WWDC has been very popular and there's also conversation about these injuries, which are going to have impact on two major contenders. Jose Altuve out of the lineup and so I'm going to give you the power to overrule Hall of Famers dusty baker, buck showalter. And so I'm going to ask you how you would arrange the Astros lineup. I think it's pretty easy for dusty, it's an easy solution. I think you put Jeremy painting in the leadoff spot, then you go Michael Brantley, then you go Bregman, Alvarez, Abreu and then Tucker for the first 6. You co sign on that. Absolutely. I was going to say paying a lead off, you know, yeah, a good rookie season, but we saw the story of me in October and then to November. I'm expecting a huge year romance and I think getting that experience will be really, really good. I think that, I mean, even without October, that is a really deep lineup. And I mean, there are can not mess that up. As you said, a whole family. And really, really good players top to bottom. Plus, you shared the dais with Jeremy Payne at the baseball writers dinner. So he's your good friend. And then buck showalter, he, of course, there's no way you can replace Edwin Diaz and how dominant he was. How would you handle the closer based on the players they have now? And let's face Billy Apple will be looking for relief pitchers all year.

"What do you think? That was sick bird. What else is there to do about it? 8 o'clock on a Monday. There's no baseball on right now. That's true. There's no baseball, but you know what? You could go to baseball reference and look up some great statistics, right? Like that of Jason Kipnis, the former all star who announced his retirement, 35 years old. He last played in the major leagues in 2020. He was a great pro he played 19 of his 20 seasons in Cleveland. Reliever Michael fulmer finalized a one year $4 million deal with the Chicago Cubs. I think the cubs are going to be better than what people expect. We've got a cubs preview coming up on today's show. We're also going to be talking to bob Kendrick, who's the president of the Negro leagues Hall of Fame. I'm going to ask him a bunch of questions about satchel page. I just feel like doing that. They've shown feel is going to join us. And we're going to talk about what Aaron judge said yesterday about maybe repeating this season, and I'm going to ask him about what Shohei Ohtani's agent said yesterday or didn't say about a tani becoming a free agent. Here's Aaron judge yesterday's and Yankees camp about how he will lead his captain. I'll be doing I've been doing the past 6 or 7 years, you know, trying to lead by example. Be a voice for this team. On and off the field and keep pushing his team to ultimate goal of bringing the championship back to New York. Why I'm here, you know, one of the main reasons why I wanted to come back and work in tribes is we had a lot of unfinished business here, so looking forward to this new role, but I don't think a lot of stuff doesn't change for me. It got me in this position and I just got to keep focusing on that and keep pushing forward. Okay, since you guys like reality TV, let's talk about the reality that show that the Yankees are and Aaron judge becoming captain. Am I too cynical about this? Like the whole captain thing, I don't get. The garand judge is a terrific leader. He's a great teammate, and it doesn't matter if they put a C on his Jersey or not. It's kind of silly. And I just been around it too much or what, Taylor? No, it's ridiculous. The Yankee captain thing is. It is ridiculous. It's dumb, it's dumb I'm over it. Why is the media playing into it? Please. I don't want to play these clips anymore on this podcast. You know what? I'm going to be on the opposite side. I think it's lovely. It's great that you want to be a captain. Or he gets to be my goodness. If Aaron judge says this year, the be in the captain is a lovely, okay? Sarah, then I'm going to defer to you on this going forward with all those. I was much more interested in Aaron judge answering a question about possibly trying to repeat what he accomplished in 2022. Hey, Kobe. You never know. You never know. But you know, I'm looking forward to it. You know, every time you play in New York, I feel like you're chasing your chase in history. So, you know, I'm used to those moments and I'm looking forward to it. You know, if it's historic or not, you know, I'm looking forward to being back here and getting this thing wrong. That's the reality TV I care about. Like, Aaron judge production in the field. I don't care whether they put a C on his Jersey. "And just be the best that I can. So right now, technically, spring hasn't started. We're still in early camp. So we've got stuff going on at 10 a.m., which I found out this morning. I'm not on West Coast time. I'm on Arizona time, I guess. Arizona doesn't change time. So I thought I was going to be late to the interview, but then we worked it out. So yeah, I'm just ready to get it rolling, and this is always the most exciting time of the year because it's kind of just when you get right back into it. So the nerves are going anxiety's going a little bit, but in a good way. So we're all excited to get it going. So we were talking before about how your numbers jump out for a young player. More walks than strikeouts in your first 72 games in the big leagues, that is something that has distinguished you as you risen through the sport. How is that ingrained in you? Because as you know, there are players who basically they'll be free swingers. And they're never going to be someone who take walks, but you know, remind me of Joey Votto in terms of being a young player who seems to have command of the strike zone. Where does that come from? It's just something that I've always grown up with. When I was growing up, I was a smaller guy. I was never one of the biggest guys in the field to the point where in a middle school play, I was Bilbo baggins in The Hobbit. That's how small I was. I would say, I was a small person. Teams would opposite shift me. I can travel ball. They would move over to the other side of the field because I never could pull the ball. So it was always just one of those things where growing up, I had to learn how to hit. I never hit for power. I didn't get, in my opinion, I didn't really develop power until my junior year of college. So for me, it was always, I need to learn how to just be a pest at the plate. And for me, I think that was easier in terms of when I grew up, I didn't have much power. So I had to learn how to hit. And then once the power came, at least in my own mind, I knew how to hit. So then the power just came with it. So for me, it's just something that's always been really important to me. I hate striking out. It's like, to me, it's just the worst. I've never, I never feel like more angry than when I strike out. Now, it doesn't mean I fear striking out because I don't think you can hit that way. But just in my own mind, I just hate it so much. Yeah, so I covered Tony Gwynn, you know, the Hall of Famer who never struck out. I remember the days when he was the rare days that he would strike out twice. He wouldn't even speak after the game. He was so and he was the nicest guy ever, but he would strike twice and he'd be miserable. I know you know George Brett. I'm sure he was probably the same way with his approach. Was so it sounds like that that was almost organic for you as a young kid is a small kid, that was your way you got on base in part. You're not expanding the zone. Right. I have to do whatever I can to get on first base. So for me, that was always the mindset. And I know that kind of the way baseball has shifted over the past few years. People will say, well, it doubles more valuable than a walk or a single. So you should try to do that. But for me, I'm not worried about advanced numbers. I'm just worrying about being a good hitter. And if the advanced numbers follow that, that's great. If they don't, I still want to be able to I want to be able to look in the mirror every night. And for me, I have a different way of thinking being a good hitter is. So for me, being a good hitter is having 5 quality played appearances on a nightly basis. So sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't, but if I can go put my best foot forward 5 times every night, then I'll be able to put my head to the pillow and be able to sleep that night. Give me the name of a hitter on another team that you love to watch hit. I think for me, it's Freddie Freeman. Just watching how he takes care of his own business, so to speak, and when we play the Dodgers last year, I mean, that lineup is so loaded that it's just like all star MVP, MVP, MVP, all star, all star. I mean, it's just incredible. So for a group of young players being able to watch that for three games last year was just awesome, just being able to see how they approach everything. And so for me, he's kind of the guy that Ike in on what does he do to be able to be successful? And I think a lot of the things that I'm talking about, he does to at the peak of the sport. He's a tough, he's a tough out. He'll go the other way. He hits line drives. He's just a really good hitter and for me, especially as a left handed first baseman. I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. But then you mentioned chili Votto. He's just unbelievable. There's just so many great examples of hitters, especially at the first base position that I can just, I'm so lucky to just be able to watch them play. So inevitably, you were at first base with Freddy. What was your conversation with him? Yeah, I don't really remember because I think I was so starstruck. It's time to just be like, I don't want to embarrass myself in front of him. I don't want to be memorable. I just want to, hey, how you doing? Different things like that. So I have no idea. But yeah, that's the fun part about playing first base is being able to talk to all these guys whenever they get to first. And then when their first baseman too, when I get to first, I just get to double dip with conversations. So it's unbelievable. Last one for you on the front lines, a lot of the rule changes we're going to see this year, the bigger bases at first base, defensive ships, which in theory, we know from the winter market, left handed hitters were getting paid more because there's an anticipation those numbers are going to jump.

You know. I had the first positive drug tests. He told them look this. This collector was coming after me. he's an anti semite. And i thought it was just despicable. And so i give mark at nausea. The brewers credit for his loyalty that braun. I'd say this. He's a better person than i am. A given that. If i were mark grad nausea after bron lied about you being a pd user and then accepted a sixty game suspension. What was it a half year suspension. I would have never forgiven him after giving him that. Huge contract mark attanasio did no in from afar. That's my viewpoint to. I can't get passed it. He tried to destroy. Somebody's life yup and he lied. You know that was. He gave that speech in february of two thousand twelve. It wasn't until two thousand thirteen that he finally got caught up in the biogenesis investigation and got his suspension. I get it in milwaukee they the fans there for gave them gave them standing ovations. You know on the field is the third greatest brewer of all time. You know buying rodney out in honor for me. Holler like hit the ball the other way and how to get deeper. And in about a spokeswoman wanna stolen hard and get up in about a spokesman one storm also meet pitches so you'd be able to catch him so it may such a difference in you know me becoming a better hitter against left hand pissing understanding who i was facing so he. He was always there to help guide and teach the younger players and it was. It was incredible before to be how someone like that around you. That has such great Knowledge about the gang watching the dock. it the documentary reminded me of the absolute beauty of dwight. Gooden delivery back at that time. And it's funny. You see you see different players and old Highlights and you think for the most part more than those guys were you know. They weren't as good athletes as we see today. But like i watch. Ron good pitch from nine hundred seventy like that. Guy was a phenomenal athlete and dwight gooden with that delivery. Unbelievable what you remember about the first time. He saw him throw. While you know the kids. Nineteen years old. You know for spring training nineteen years old. And and you'll have such great command employs on when i say great command. He had great command breaking ball. He thought at anytime and he can pinpoint his fastball. You know inside outside Wherever he needed to throw at you know he could throw it. And when i saw that and realized that he was probably going to be a big league we knew from there that the organization was moving into right direction because now they were starting to develop a younger players and i think that was the greatest gift of the mets organization when i when i came up in eighty three in all doc and eighty four star seeing or development of young players coming to the big leagues i. I knew dan that we were a very special as a team. Because we had young talent blended in with some of the players. You know that was all that had been in a big lease. It had great experience in that. Were being to help us and moda show us to play at that level. What was your relationship with. Gary carter keith. Hernandez talked about him before. He joined the mets as being one of the most disliked players in the league because the perception he was would seek out cameras. What was your relationship though with him. Once you got the same clubhouse. I had a great relationship with carter. I thought very highly of him. I knew he was a phenomenal player. All those years. He played with montreal. But i really quite understand how great he was until he came over with us and demand he was. It was so different. You know such an example of what a man supposed to be like how you supposed to live your life how you spoke Love playing baseball. But you know he love this face above gaden about this ameri. No and we didn't see a lot of that when i first came to the big leagues. I saw that in him. I saw him. You know close to his family his wife and his kids in his faith and he just never struck me as anyone. That was mad or angry with anybody. He was always a happy person. I was like there's no way. How could you be that happy. You know and i just realized that gary was gary we live a free life. You know he. He wasn't consumed with any earthly things. He wasn't consumed but the fame You know. I think people thought he were more crazy about the cameras. Yeah he'd leica cameras because he was happy you know and i realized that that's why he liked the cameras because he was a happy person you wanted to express itself to people and show people that life is really happy is not all you know that we all make it to be and baseball. Wears a lot of pressure. I didn't see gary play with crash. I saw him play with joy. It's funny you say that straw might try is you know is now considered to be the best player in baseball and a lot of people in my field will complain to me. And they'll say boy. Trout is really boring. And i always say he's not boring. He's happy about it. He just loves to play right corner. That was kid. Kids just love to play. He showed up every day and.

We've discussed Several times there at eighteen right now. Boy i tell her atmosphere like you. You are better qualified. Answer that question. Their next series against the angels just came off a three game. sweep the hands of the indians. So it's not like the orioles are playing in immortal team. But mike god. You're getting destroyed. Oh yeah and like like you just said they're not you know the angels on immortal but the angels are definitely way better than the orioles are and then it looks like we got the raise over the weekend and the raise of just absolutely destroyed the oils this year so if a wind comes i think it's going to be in these next three games if not we might have to wait till next week the eggs while pretty pretty awful. Now let's go to jack mcgee at j. m. c. g. Seven five one seven jack rates and buster. I know schedule making his difficult but shouldn't major league baseball be a little more thoughtful in late season. Stretch run schedules. Braves feasting on the marlins while the os irs one jack and the others while the mets have two weeks against. Mlb's best doesn't seem right well and you just don't know You know. I if because their schedules of course are put together basically You know the a year ahead of time. You don't know who's going to be good and who's bad. I mean the marlins last two were a playoff team and so i think that their struggles to the degree of their struggles have been surprised as your and you mentioned. The mets have two weeks against mlb's best teams. Nobody thought a year ago that the giants would be in this position. Today would have the best record in baseball. So it's hard to anticipate the one thing. I do wish that they would Consistently work to do is down the stretch. Have some of the traditional rivalries. You know have make sure you get cardinals cubs down the stretch. Make sure you got yankees red sox. Make sure you get You know the the dodgers against the giants of the dodgers against the padres next up is billy flanagan at billy flamed billy rates in. I'm a rangers fan. Can someone explain the difference. Between a successful and unsuccessful rebuild timeframes prospects winning games cetera. At least the orioles are worse. Barely well if we're talking about. You know rebuilder retool look there's sometimes word successful. The astros obviously was successful. The cubs successful the white sox successful. There are a lot of times when he's not successful in a site. The phillies is being the classic example. They went into the tank cycle where they took their payroll way down the draft near the top. And they really haven't gotten any kind of payoff for that. You know the padres. I you know went into a tank. Ifan are now You know they came out and they had success last year. A lot of fun to watch beginning of the year. They had a lot of fun just executives. Other teams have noted how quickly that their window might go pump by like they don't have a pipeline of pitching out because of all these trades they've made and this why with the orioles and people are like well we have I think the other day they're ranked as the second best farm system in baseball. There's no guarantee that's gonna payoff and remember. It's not like the orioles are like two players away from being contenders like they need to find twenty good major leaguers. That takes a long time. Which is why the idea of them. Being relevant in two thousand and twenty two or two thousand twenty three. I think it's a launch taylor Yup nothing is guaranteed and we the pirates. I mean they've been tanking basically for my entire life when they got nothing show for no. That's not right so funny. This conversation about you know the pirates who were arguably baseball's best team like in two thousand thirteen fourteen fifteen like those three years. They were great teams. They were a threat to win the world series and then being a small market team window went out now recently. They have yup for sure. You know they've gone into this rebuild slash tanking mode in recent seasons but actually had some good seasons. Even your oriole's yeah like the manager. They were good teams. Yeah yeah i got something to say about those teams tomorrow. We can talk about it later. Okay matthew porto rights at thirty year old mulberry You keep saying tattoos junior will win. The nl mvp stays healthy but trae turner is leading the league in average and stolen bases and is currently leading the dodgers to possibly a comeback for the division lead front runner question. Mark wouldn't rule. I think trade. Turner is the this point biggest threat to fernando tetechies junior. These junior leads the nationally. Get home runs. He scored more runs than trae each and only one national leaguer has ranks higher and war. And that's max muncie. Jiménez Hits 2 Home Runs Again , White Sox Rout Twins 11-1
"The white sox facing the twins in what was credible to me about this game which was on on. Espn television last night was the fact that it started out almost identically to how the white sox game against the cubs sunday night started out. If you remember on sunday night. Tim anderson led off the game with a home run and then three batters later eloy jimenez city two run homer tim. Anderson did the first inning. Here's the pitch hitting the air deep to let back toward the wall. It's he just got it over that wall. In left he's got another leadoff homerun and it's one nothing one batter in great length casts for espn thousand three batters later. Aloi team to the plate with runaround. I high towering fly deep to center. That baby's gone the sweet above the batter's by well over four hundred feet to run shot. It's rain nothing. Yeah it was estimated. Four hundred and fifty four feet menez was not done. He came to the again in the second inning with runners on base pitch hit in the year two left in the corner. That ball is god. It's a three run home her. Oh baby big baby keeps on hitting homers. He's got four in the last twenty four hours vinyl score their ten to one white socks over the minnesota

Chicago White Sox Sweep City Series vs. Cubs
"Get into the good stuff last night at wrigley field sunday night baseball. The white sox goering for a sweet and man they jumped all over zach davies first offering you the game anderson drives wander right going back deichmann looking at it's dawn. I pitched a game and it goes the opposite way. A home run into the bleachers. Tim anderson with the jack and it's one nothing white sox boop shabby on. Espn radio with the call. Tim anderson actually was not in the original. Starting lineup. he'd gone into tony larussa office after the game on saturday talked about how he didn't feel good at the plate and then he was working on some things in the cage. Before sunday's game coach assam hitting the saw that he'd figured out some stuff with timing And they went to lure us and said he's gotta be in the lineup. He's gotta be in. The lineup and sure enough tim anderson talked his way in the lineup and he hit the first pitch the game for a home run. The white sox were done though in that first. Inning davies delivers swang clobbered centerfield. Or take a back near the wall looking at. It's gone tosses the back towards the white sox first base dugout eloy jimenez when his second homer of the year and that quickly it is three nothing and the lead would continue to build in that first then a swing and a bolt drill out towards left centerfield on its way and it's gone. Two run homer the third homerun derby inning and white sox have exploded. It's five nothing near the top of the first at wrigley on their way to a ninety three

Pete Alonso Repeats in Record-Breaking Home Run Derby
"When i saw you When we opened up the zoom this morning there a were within orioles cap. You had some oriole pride today. After what trae manzini did. Last night amid that rate homerun derby. Oh my goodness what an evening last night was. I mean i told my boss. P g that This is the high point of the orioles season so had had to wear the hat this morning. I was beaming with pride last night. You know we we. We talk about people being an inspiration in sports. A lot like diaw trey. Manzini really is to beat cancer. First of all i mean. That's inspired himself. But to comeback performed a high level then with the spotlight on them last night you know obviously couldn't edge. Pete alonso out in the derby. But i just have a magnificent performance of it was truly truly a special night especially for orioles fans and it really was so much fun to see how much fun trae was having a wis Shohei ohtani absolute blast. Although he didn't survive the past the first round and pete alonso. and i gotta say taylor. I made my share of lousy picks. You know. Dr one of the deep left field. This is back toward the wall. It's got a chance and it has gone to run home. Run willson contreras. Cubs laid three to nothing from the cubs radio network. "Great game and city field between the cubs and the mets taiwan walker was outstanding. The two on the inside corner strike three cl walker claps his hand against his bed as he heads off the mound after his career high. Twelve th strikeout of the game. It's a one two three inning. Vikings are console to set aside. The you know the neutral reporter activity do i was doing a vanderbilt game and going what what was up for that. Call i apologize. I'm waiting for that. Very nice head. Sara langton podcast. Yesterday we talked about our great for the home. Run derby you are the host of the derby coverage So i want you to take a shot at this bleacher tweet To start with this. From jacob sarah via who basically chastised yesterday after he gave the great eight that i have for the derby. Because i didn't have your don alvarez in my group so karl i want you to chime in here. Here's the eighth that i came up with number one. Pete alonso defending champion guide. Love's the event is made clear that he'll do the event as long as anybody invites him. You absolutely have to have him there. Shohei ohtani although. I fully acknowledged sarah trade with me that we don't think that You know tiny necessarily would do that. You know maybe the angels and say look you might back off but we love for him to be there. Fernando tatis junior Would it would be so much fun to have them. In the event ladimir guerrero junior one of the Main front runners at this point for the america league. mvp award ronald a kuni. Junior wants soda of the washington nationals. because i didn't put jesse winker in a a twitter poll earlier this week got reds fans all over me. So i'm putting jesse winker and my age just so i can get past cincinnati at some point in my number. Eight was ryan mcmahon the events in colorado. And i'd love to see iraqi in the event. And if you want you know. Pick that apart. Yeah i think. I'd love all juniors so i would bad fernando tatis junior and i would like to see for the sake of colorado as you said Nolan auto in it. I think that would be a a wonderful twist given. Obviously he's no longer there but I'd love to see him join. so i i would. I would add those to to go with alonzo. who's gutted. Defend vlad has to be in it So i think i think i would. I'd like to get those to win and look I do agree with otani in both cases He he he he needs to be in it and be. He won't be in it because he pitches now see just d. aged play the field wasn't a pitcher but the beauty and the reason we want otani in it is because he is a pitcher so Yeah i he he would probably be at the top of my list of of wants but i understand but i doubt that that's who the event needs. You know trump's not doing it because he's hurt you could always you'd always love to have a stanton or judge just giving colorado and how far the ball will travel. But i love your list. I want the juniors in it. i want fernando. I want glad. I want ronald. I agree with you on soda. I think soda would put a show on you know. I think he would be he would be sort of a guy that that a embraces it. But there's so much more than just watching him in homers. He would be a sideshow with his with his dancing with his antics. Which is intensity. So i would. Just i would add. I'd had fernando texas junior. And then i'd love to see nolan aaron auto do it. I love your idea of our nato. In fact i think if you had that group of seven if you had alonso otani tattoos junior junior kuni. Junior soto in nolan are not. Oh that would be as as as exciting field as we've ever seen for me. you know. I think you know doing this. You know ten fifteen years or whatever Doing the home run derby. That would be awesome. Yeah lewis on it. Well what do you think about your don alvarez Yeah you know to me your alvarez. I i i had this conversation with Somebody i think about the nba dunk competition and the home run derby and to me you know when we were growing up in order for the slam dunk competition to be great Dr j. needed to at dominique wilkins spud webb needed. To begin with. And then it kind changed and you recognize. Well y- because anybody can dunk and in the home run derby for the most part anybody hit home runs. Your don alvarez is unbelievable hitter but don alvarez to me falls into a category You know joey gallo of rafael devers. There's just a lot of guys can do. What alvarez does now. If i'm astro fan it's like the all star game. I wanna see my guy in it. I understand Look you could astro guy last year. Criticizing george springer. It would've made sense to me. You know the the guys that we named separate themselves because of their personality because of their flair because of their Size because of how far they hit the ball alvarez the boxes but he checks the same boxes to me a lot of other guys do the unique part of of the otani and the juniors separate him. But if you're don alvarez unit we don't lose. I can tell you that we win if he's willing to do it. We're great with him because he'll hit some blasts in colorado and he's part of a really impressive houston offense. They blew their lead against the red sox last night. But they They effectively demonstrate. I think in that series it right now that the better team than the red sox along the way alex. Cora said that they've got the best offense in baseball there. Number one runs through three hundred thirty six. They have the lowest strikeout rate at twenty one point eight percent their number one in waited runs created plus. And carl not close there at a one twenty one with a you know the mid mid line being one hundred the white sox are second at one twelve so a huge gap between the astros and white sox first and second degree with alex said right now. The astros had the best offense of baseball. I think the astros buster said this. Two weeks ago on baseball tonight sending out content they will be ranked number one of the power rankings within the next two weeks. I i think there is good a team. Yeah i do. I think there as good a team and this was we did the astros when valez came back or td was pitching great. You realize like my god. These guys haven't been there Brantley was out. Alvarez was hurt yeah. I think. I think they're a. I think there is competitive. A team in the american league as there is. And i do think at one point they'll be atop the power rankings. The other category the astros lead baseball in is foul balls You don't strike them out they are. They are exactly what the red sox when they were. Winning world series were They grind every at bat their athletic enough they can steal basis at the bottom. They have speed They can pitch. You know you know. The i i and they go out and get a bullpen piece. Yeah i think they're i think they could absolutely Represent the american league in the world series on all in all in on the astros. Since it occurred to me when you really do a little deeper look into them bay. How banged up..

That's the thing that happens in the middle right yet. Truth be told. How many red sox games have you watched from beginning to end this year I think i'm pretty sure it's zero euro like that's the number for your whole life. Can i ask a quick question here. Sam go ahead claire. Way sam is buster. I've only learned this term from buster Just by working with him but his he the textbook. Definition of a flat-lander I no no. He's he's still he's not a textbook flatly in there now he he holds Still hold some of his rural roots tightly which is Keeping him from slipping into that other category in the matrix of vermont versus fair enough. And how would you describe the flat-lander san vienna being a vermonter. Somebody who off the road and snowstorm learned mas. They don't get out and stopping offer to pull him out with your truck. Sperry specific sounds like me or definition. I think would one night when deer season rolls around. And you know a guy rolls up and said hey. Check out the deer i killed in. It's a cow. that's probably a flat-lander yes yup. That's that's definitely on the top five there and if it's a black in lake nona brown goodness all right. Thanks doing this all right. thank you. Good luck with the bear Deterrence when we know how it works out appreciates him. Thanks so tell you said to me before we did this. You you didn't know what vermont accent sounds like. Now you do. They all hate baseball and none of them pay attention all the time. Sam has people Who come to knowing that we're brothers and ask him. Hey what do you think about the red sox. Wouldn't hesitate to trade max scherzer within the division would other gm's the national league east be leary of sending prospects that might provide future production to a division rival for just a few months sherzer. Now i think if someone was in that situation surgery was available. I am thinking about the mets in particular They're trying to win. And max sherzer would help them win. "Cardinals would probably number one on my list. I don't disagree that much with your order. i'm with you. Where are they right now. Cubs look much better than we thought. I still like the brewers so yeah is that division winnable. But that's why they need a max scherzer. They haven't pretty good farm system kind of middle of the pack so they have some some players to deal there the yankees and the cubs could use them. But i don't know if they have a farm systems to make that trade to the yankees wanted to go over the luxury tax. I think sherzer would push them over. Unless there's some money in there. I wanna throughout buster a team. I just brought up the giants who have a good farm system. The two highly rated catchers enjoy bart who by the way hitting three fifty eight at triple a. patrick bailey. Their first round pick. They have a bunch of outfielders pitchers in the lower levels so they have prospects. This would be a kind of a right turn from where they were going to start of the season but they won with that division. Max scherzer would help whether changes you'd put the next to the toronto blue jays. Sandy upgrades demonstrated during the offseason. They're trying to win this year. You know in an era which teams are tanking. Those teams have pushed their chips into the middle. Ca- bryan hayes last night. Losing a home run because he stepped over first base. Which is a first for me. Dave in terms of having some weird play where runners are returning and some other folks are involved in a play. I've never seen a guy hit a home. Run it step over first base. No i haven't seen that either. I asked her stats group. If they can dig up the last time it happened but stuff like that isn't necessarily categorize so we couldn't confirm the last time it happened. I'm sure it has. There's been you know like you said home runs. That were missed for passing runners in other robin ventura. Grand slam the playoffs. That turned into double the most famous taylor. And you're not a baseball nerd like i am. But in nineteen fifty-nine harvey haddix had a perfect game and he lost it in the thirteenth inning. On joe adcock walk off home. Run except joe adcock past hank aaron on the basis and thought it was a double peeled off. He'll be got a single home run. But i've never seen a guy who's a home run missing first base now. That was absolutely remarkable. Last one for you vlad. Junior chasing triple crown. He really come into his own. This year shohei ohtani another home. Run last night at this point. I'd say those guys. It'd be the front runners for american league. Mvp yes yeah. I think so. They're pretty much even in war. I to get your thoughts because mvp voting sometimes it goes beyond the stats to just. How impressive was this season. And that's kind of a gut feeling. So what's more impressive. S continues vlad chasing the triple crown or otani is doing both ways like we said they're pretty much even value. Does one of those others get more extra credit for their achievement. There have been multiple players. Won the triple crown. We'd never seen him shohei ohtani doing. And when i get asked the question doing radio interviews about the american league. Mvp i say look you know being a writer and someone who voted for mvp. I think the last time i did it was one thousand nine hundred five Writers loved their narratives. Yeah there's no doubt that otani's narrative. I will carry heavy through the mvp boating. What do you think yeah. That's my feeling at this point. You know the angels not being in the playoff race is probably only a minor factor. Trout might trout one at a couple of years ago and they were under five minute. So that's that's a factor. But i don't think it's a big one buster third in the league in opium s behind vlad jd martinez. He's in two point. One eight or nine ers is a pitcher is on pace to throw one hundred twelve innings. So he's not a full workload but it's one hundred innings that significant. I'm with you that narrative women it in one hundred and two years since babe ruth in one thousand nine hundred nineteen so. I think that extra edge does go to otani and by the way the angels said at the top of the show. They've actually been planned better yet. Last fifteen games. They've crawled within three games of five hundred. They're gonna get my trout back at some point so You know we'll see how that goes. All right sir always great to talk with.

"A second ago. A man taylor dave he. He basically said he enjoyed watching garrett cole squirm when he was asked the question by ken david off yesterday about whether or not he uses spider tack. What was your reaction. Because i had a very distinct reaction. I'll give you a second. Well it was a pretty good. Non answer by mr cole Expertly evading answering the question. Scorer would be a very apt description. He's not going to be the only one being asked this the next few days in the next few weeks you know and mention this his spin rate in his last start his lowest since two thousand eighteen so maybe this crackdown will actually work. And let's face it tonight. That's what a lot of folks are going to be watching. I i will tell you. This is when i saw the question and i've known camp david off afraid longtime new york post. He's an excellent reports. Absolutely a fair question but as we move forward. I really really hope that we keep the proper context and and try to four for what's gone on in baseball in the last twenty years everybody in the sport has known that pitchers have been using foreign substances so when garrett cole as nineties answering that question he kind of looks like he's on a perp you know he's like in Police video or something like that. I i just cringed into remind me so much every winter when we talk about. Pd's for the hall of fame voting and there's so much focus on barry bonds and roger clements in. It's because of course they were the best players of their their generation. And what's forgotten in those conversations is at hundreds and thousands of players under baseball's umbrella reusing pd's in this case. Dozens and hundreds of pitchers has been used have been using foreign substances. But you know what you know gets the questions garrett cole because he's is paid pitcher ever. Trevor bauer who just got the biggest salary ever and has been very outspoken about Spin raid in the usa foreign substances. So we're gonna you're right we're gonna see a lotta pitchers. Elite pitchers being asked this question. I do hope that we have that. There is some nuance and context. It's attached to those. What do you think it's important in. Look no pictures gonna wanna come out there and say i got the chemist working in the back room devising the the secret ingredient. So you're not gonna get the answers you want anyways buster. You're so right on on the context that this has been going on. I was doing some research yesterday. And remember john lester in the two thousand thirteen world series and i found an old video from baseball the night in its aaron boone. Current yankee manager and chris singleton talking about whatever was in leicester's glove clearly something there and he was going to pine tar had kind of frozen up. It was a cold night at that time and chrissy lipson to ex major leaguers. Not ex- pitchers but this is absolutely no big deal. This is part of the game pitchers. Use it chris. Singleton said heck position players especially infielders. They don't mind it because it gives them a little subsidy instagram the ball and they'd throw it so this has been so long a part of the game. You're not it's going to be hard to flip that switch overnight. Yeah and the reason why we're having this conversation now. I think you would agree with me because you know from major league. Baseball's perspective central baseball. They don't like the product with a lack of action with all the strikeouts. The absolute pitcher domination of more to the point you give position players now. Essentially revolting because pitchers went next level with a foreign substances. It went from being a little pine tar john. Lester pine tar in the glove too Spider tack you preclu- whatever else at the end of the pelican grip stuff that they're using. They went next level and they had they learn how to use it to improve their spin rates. You know and i know you guys have talked about this last couple of days but you i think you nailed it and the revolt of the position players reminds me of the steroid era. When initially there wasn't a revolt. I mean there's that famous union meeting right. Where rick hellene this is before. Nine hundred ninety eight stepped up and said we've got to do something. The players didn't do anything so it's up to me to the players in a way police their own sport and they didn't do it originally in the steroids era but ceiling gets all the blame which is fair but the players have to determine what kind of sport they want and i think the pitchers have gone too far so now half the sport is stepping up in revolting yup. That's what josh donaldson was doing. I gotta ask the question on television this morning. Do we expect yard coal to take a shot at josh donaldson when he steps box tonight with tweeted out the other day. I don't think so i. Garrett is a total pro. I think and i couldn't remember specifically but i think at one point i had a conversation with him about retaliation. I don't think that's his thing. No i don't think so either. I would not expect that at all all right. But we're going to be a lot eyeballs on it. That's for sure The giants continue to roll. And you ask the question email to me. Why can't the giants hang all season with the padres and dodgers. Yeah i like to hear your opinion because in our power rankings voting. This week i finally moved the giants ahead of both of those teams for the first time. They have a couple of injuries right now. They're going to miss. Evan longoria but the rotation is terrific. Six best the fifth best rotation era three one one just behind the dodgers at three zero one. They're scoring runs and brandon crawford. Two more home runs last night. Fourteen home runs. He slugging five seventy five. I mean this guy played his way into an mvp candidate. I know they're old. They don't quite have the depth that the dodgers do. But i don't see why they can't hang in there all season. Yeah father time is. The phrase goes is undefeated. But it's like this year The giants have sort of like punch back. You gotta when we thought buster posey might be done brandon crawford might be done is ineffective player. Evan longoria was getting older. Those guys been really good. And i want to say this because i was trying to decide yesterday about you. Know to say about dwayne keefer The giants broadcaster who has announced on social media the other day that he's stepping away to deal and he wasn't specific about the issue ee reference. chemotherapy any also talked about wanting some privacy. So i kind of trying to figure out what to say. I think you would agree with me that they're just going to be so many people around baseball who are going to have thoughts and prayers for join kuyper. He's such a nice rate person. We've had him on the podcast repeatedly You know my thoughts have been within the last couple of days for sure. i'm dave. I think he probably would that. He runs it. He does not one but two shows for nbc sports on peacock he starts the day with pf t live and ends it with pf t pm when that show is in season. He's name is mike florio and he's back here on. The rich eisen show is rich. Doing great you were speaking of october. Seventeen twenty ten. Three bang bang hits about five minutes of real time. Dante robinson. Hit to sean jackson brandon. Meriweather hit todd. Heap and james harrison hit muhammed massa. And that changed everything. When it comes to the league's enforcement of hits the helmet neck area of defenseless receivers. Hello how are you guys example. You would know that. An and the only thing i would take issue with is brandon. Meriweather went top rope on todd heap. That was insane out of all. I remember marshall. Faulk went on game day morning the week after those hits took place. And saying that sean. Jackson should've known to sit down in the coverage. If he would knew what the coverage was he actually studied to know what coverages look like. He would have sat down and dante robinson wouldn't have blown him up that he he pinned that one onto sean jackson which made us all look at marshal gordy talking about but The league just doesn't you know. Obviously it was just gonna stop all of that in. Its attracts yet. That's all spain's now and it's on the defensive back to play with the right technique and if you hit that helmet neck area with your helmet or any other part of your body of forcible blow to the head or neck area of defensive player. It's an automatic fifteen yards and involuntarily contribution to the human fund and suspensions overtime mike florio pro. Football talk always great for seinfeld reference. Right here on the rich. Eisen show Julio jones trade. What's what's the headline to come out of it do you. Arthur blank blank. Try saying that ten times fast. Right what it came down to arthur blank wanted a first round pick for julio jones for two reasons one they got a second round pick from hamas new during the two thousand nineteen season and then they gave up a second round. Pick to get hayden. Hurst from the ravens. Now it was a two plus What was it two. Plus they got a two plus five for hayden hers plus a four so the the the the fingerprints were there for what ultimately happened with the two and a four from the titans for julio jones in six it had to be more than two plank wanted a one blanket held out for a one and i think when arthur blank realized where this is going from here training camp looming mandatory minicamp theory. Julio could have shown up what do you do with. Julio jones where he's got a fifteen point three million dollar injury guarantee and otherwise we'll guarantee on his salary if he shows up for mandatory. Minicamp what do you do with them. I think that blanche's decided now is the time to to get what i can and move on even if they come up with a way to hold onto julio jones maybe they would have gotten lucky and got in that. First rounder later in the year. I just think that that they were ready to move on. And there's a chance to titans are going to move on the titans move on. What do you have so it was time. It was smart and they got the best deal they could under a bad set of circumstances where it was well known within the organization player wanted out and so what comes with. Julio is the contract right and and what. What are those numbers. And how do you see. Julio handling his new digs in tennessee on that front alone. Xs and os assad full contract with none of it. Paid by the falcons. Win the titans straight of ryan tannehill a couple of years ago. The dolphins paid five million dollars of tanta hills. Compensation very different circumstance at at that time and at this time but the titans are going. Pay the full fifteen point. Three million guaranteed for skill injury and cap. There's a two million guarantee. Next year they pick up the whole contract. But here's the thing. Even though the jones contract which was renegotiated three years ago had a new money. Average of twenty two million plus right. Now it's three years thirty. Eight million in change works out to about twelve point seven million per year watch for julio jones to either want a new deal on the way in the door or go out this year have a great season and then turn around after twenty twenty one and say all right. It's time to take care of financially. But that's what whoever was trading for. Julio jones was going to end up buying. And i think that's one of the reasons. Why the falcons couldn't get that that first round pick your taking on fifteen point three million in salary obligation the year when the cap is down of twenty five million and you have a guy who's gonna want another major contract as soon as.

"Tweets already. Buster bleacher tweets. For monday we got a pair of yankees questions here. And i want a leadoff with great job by the graphics department on sunday night baseball with that king kong graphic of him climbing up the building i got believe there is an extended cut of fighter jet swooping in and taking them out. Because that's how this ends right. They haven't won the world series so he doesn't make the top reach. The top of the building is alex. Cora who'd be the pilot of one of those jets was going yesterday. That's for sure absolutely so we got two questions here to guys kind of looking to blow brian role at baseball brian. Five rates in the yankees of the worst offense and major league baseball in their pitchers are starting to falter from having no support. Fourth-place seems an inevitable destination. Do they have anything worth selling at the deadline. Brian wants to burn it all down. And then martin malene at martin underscore underscore moline Writes in in two thousand sixteen sweep by tampa triggered a yankees tear down with big names. Leaving should sweep by the red sox trigger another clear out but this time of the gm and the manager. What do you think about all this yankees discontent. Yeah while the yankees haven't fired a manager in season since nineteen ninety. That's not the culture under brian cashman. So i don't think that's going to happen. How time runner is not a reactionary owner to date anyway and certainly was So i don't expect that. I think it's too early to talk about selling to a week if they were to suddenly turn the offense around You know turn around the offense. They would look different. And i am curious taylor to see how different offense look after these foreign substance checks happen Like you know. All of a sudden is britain. Big sorta slow burly bunches sluggers. Maybe if they're not facing these crazy spin rates they could be a little bit different. So i i'm curious about what baseball is gonna look like after that starts absolutely good. Segue into our next question from debbie. Gamons brown she writes in steroids and foreign substances and sign stealing. And everything else is baseball sport with the most cheating i- noodle it for a moment maybe cycling but that might be it yeah. Cycling is definitely I you know when you read about. I mean first off the all the drug use in the lance armstrong error. But now like these little motors put in. That is crazy. I kind of wonder if part of the reason for baseball is just so much downtime. Right there at the ballpark for hours and hours and hours or players are talking to each other and they go. Hey try this out. Check this out but yeah there's been a lot of it. No doubt about it next up. George franko at ge franko. Thirty two rights in if. I'm a pitcher. I'd start touching my cat my neck etcetera just to drive teams batters umpires crazy. Why not play mental games the with the opposing team. That's what gaylord perry used to do the hall of famer and go back and find video of him just constantly touching different parts He's pierce thought that he absolutely got inside the heads of hitters. 'cause they were thinking about you know whether he's putting vasa lean on ball or some some sort of substance on the ball and look. He acknowledged he did it all the time last one for today crispy at crispy eighty seven rates and could the cubs current hot streaks at the club back five years due to an unwillingness to capitalize on their tractive trade ships. That's a really interesting question. And i want to dive into that later in the week. We got cubs and cardinals on sunday night baseball. Because i do think that even with the cubs playing well that they need to a little bit of a measured selloff. Maybe you're a kris bryant the whole year because he's been the best player on the team but a guy like craig kimball. They're closer. I think the cubs and thinking about selling gotta get rid of craig at the very least well. Not get rid of him. Straight allies ended value as you put it much more succinctly than i did that does it for bleacher tweets for today hashtag bleacher tweets on twitter. Thanks for and everyone. We've got tons of questions. Unfortunately we could not read them all but please keep sending them in. Yeah and i got a lot of people that thank today Giancarlo stanton tim. Curtin call ravitch aaron boone. Dan schulman charlie monta. And of course. Taylor swift the producer of the podcast. Thanks.
