"She's very Julia Anderson. Oh, well, have you in a second they said, Julia, what's your question? Where are you from? From Minneapolis. One of my favorite cities, Julia Anderson. What's your question? Yeah, so after the apology to Everton and Frank Lampard, that obviously doesn't help you out very much, Raj. Are we hearing anything about investigating refs or a more transparent process for BAR? You're talking about news that Germany sees Mike dean's $800 million yacht this afternoon. Of course, yes. His 80 pound dinghy. I'm so annoyed. I am so unbelievably bloody annoyed about this. It's probably best that I don't speak about it. I mean, when you watch David, the ball bounce off Rodri's arm. He may clear and obvious way, but what if you're a Liverpool fan and they are bearing down on city if you're in Everton fan, then you get an apology, do you get to swap the apology for a point if you are in the relegation zone at the end when the music stops? What are you? Well, I mean, you know, one problem is is that now everyone's going to be looking for an apology. This is going to be the beginning of like a, you know, they're going to be apologies every single week. I'm not saying that this wasn't egregious, roger. It was egregious, but there are going to be a lot of apologies. Everybody's going to be looking for the policies. No. No, I, you know, you know, you can see evil or you can see incompetence, and it's just incompetence. It was mass incompetence. And it affected Everton, even though there's a very good chance I think you stated on the pod that Everton would have missed the ensuing penalty. But it's. Awful and you're right. You never get the point back, and that point could be the difference between staying up and going down and it could be the difference between Liverpool catching city or not catching cities. So it has massive, massive consequence. My ding job would be a great band name. Nathan woodle Doug Helmut, we're about to get to you, but Nathan wood will tell us where you are and what your question. Hey fellas, I am here in Austin, Texas. My question for you. Yeah, it's a good time from the ATX. Absolutely. All day long. The question I've got for you are trying to be respectful of your time here. My perception. And I could be wrong. I want you guys to weigh in on this. My perception is that we talk about the EFL Cup and the FA Cup. Like there are these great opportunities for upsets. Like these guys, you know, these smaller teams, the championship sides, the league two sides can rise up and beat the big boys in the primary league. And you do see that from time to time in the preliminary rounds, but it seems like at the end of the day, it's the liverpools and the Chelsea is the play in the final. And the Liverpool's win. So am I wrong in thinking that with all of the discussion of these underdogs in the knockout competitions, that's all blowing smoke or am I not giving those competitions enough credit? Why do they not take it more seriously, you mean? Well, why do they not take it more seriously or do they take it more seriously and they still get beaten? I can say that right now the economics of the ultimately the carabao cup is hilarious until you get into the final rounds when it does mean something. From a silverware and branding perspective. But the money's in are so tiny and the caravan kept the lead cut was originally created before lots of European tournaments really became bleated. Once floodlights were invented so that there could be some more mid week football. It was really no purpose for the carabao trying to explain what the carabao is to want to just got soccer curious. It makes no even the NIT. I mean, it's like, it's ridiculous. The FA Cup. You have to start with, so look, we didn't used to have floodlights. Yeah. They weren't invented in Britain until the 1970s. The FA Cup has got this wonderful tradition and we love it. It's really built it. They were my memories. But the financial realities of winning it, even what you get are Europa cut places. It's just not enough for the mid level Premier League teams to risk, they when they evaluate, is it till we give our first team a week off in that third round and have them refresh and get the point we need in the Premier League to stay in the Premier League, always the latter is right. And it pains me. As an Everton fan, you know I would bite your arm off to win something, see my kids be there, share those memories, have been to Wembley number of times semifinals and finals with my kids and watch us get crapped on. And I would love that, but ultimately it's a risk assessment and that is how they treat it, that nobody, everyone's afraid of relegation, more than they are excited to win. Any of those things. They're not fans. They're making business decisions. And that's ultimately at your view for human being, having said that God, please let this beat burn wood tomorrow. We are going to wrap this one up with a great Doug helm, right? Dougie H tell us where you're from or which question? Rod, hey David, this is Doug from Dublin, Ohio, staunch Crystal Palace, and Columbus crew supporter. Wow. Every morning at work, we do a daily trivia question in today's daily trivia questions dealt with something called the singing ringing tree found in Burnley Lancashire. And my main question is, how can I be following men in blazers for years and not have heard of this in my related question is, how is that also not sponsored by Dave fishing minibus? Well, we don't know that it isn't. But we will look into that immediately, rod, no doubt you're like in the Google right now, all you've already known about it for you. A giant metal sculpture is all I know about it. Have actually seen the singing ringing tree I've stubbed my toe on the singing ringing tree late at night when a may or may not have been drunk. I'm starting to think no Doug that maybe Dave fishwick is a minibus oligarch. Could that be it? Excellent point. I don't know. Is that the force this divestiture? Is he not the only girl? Look up the singing ringing tree. Is this weird wind powered thing, which kind of resembles the tree overlooks the whole city. And when you actually Google it, you'll kind of know why they fish.

"Albion. And they're from Brighton England. Burnley, whose nickname is the clarets, and they're from Burnley Lancashire. Such a British name. Yeah, I know I love it. Chelsea, of course, their nickname is the blues and they're from West London. You have Crystal Palace who's the eagles. They're also from London. Lots of these teams are in London. Their nickname are the toffees, or also sometimes the blues, and they're from Liverpool. Leads united, their nickname is the whites, and they are from Leeds west Yorkshire. And their team anthem, they're known well that their anthem is marching on together is this their team anthem. Everybody just rallies around it. Lester city, their name is the foxes and they're from luster east Midlands. Liverpool, whose nicknames are the reds, so they are also obviously from Liverpool and their anthem as we talked about in the quiz during the John Waters episode is you'll never walk alone. And that song comes from the 1945 Rogers and Hammerstein musical carousel. So the West Ham anthem, which we'll talk about in a second, that is from some just random song from the 1920s that got picked up. But the fact that they took song from the from the musical and turned it into the anthem for like literally one of the most powerful sporting teams in the entire world is blows my mind. That's like that's like if that is like if the Patriots took on that rent song about the minutes. 525,600 yeah. Everyone was like, yeah. Yeah, yeah. People were ripping their shirts off and yeah, so do you. But their boss and accents just like,.

"Me. So the Premier League often referred to as the English Premier League or the EPL. It's actually called the Football Association Premier League limited. That's like its legal name. But it's the top level of the English football league system. So there are 20 clubs within the Premier League. It operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English football league. So the competition was founded as the FA Premier League in 1992 following the decision of clubs in the football league first division to break away from the football league, which was founded in 1888, so that they could take advantage of a lucrative television rights sale to sky coming from ITV. So the Premier League has only been around since 1992. Like in our lifetimes. So yeah, that's recent, yeah. Why is this important? The primarily is the most watched sports league in the world. It's broadcast in 212 territories to more than 643 million homes with a potential TV audience of close to 5 billion people. So 5 sevenths of the world's population watches the Premier League. That's more than Eurovision, Julia. It is more than Eurovision, Lauren. That's why we're talking about it. Shocking. I know, it's shocking. So there are the primarily has 20 teams at ebony given time up in that level. But over since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, 50 clubs have competed in the Premier League. 48 English teams and two Welsh clubs, only 7 of these 50 teams have ever won the title over the last 29 seasons. So Manchester United has won 13 times Chelsea has won 5 man city is won 5 arsenals one three. The Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City and Liverpool of all one one time. But don't worry about remembering that right now. Okay, I won't. So how is it possible for 50 clubs to have competed in a league that only has 20 slots? Yeah. Because of the English football league system. This is also sometimes called the English football pyramid. So this is a series of interconnected leagues for men's association football clubs in England. It also has a couple teams in Wales, also Jersey and Guernsey and the Isle of Man as well. So their system has this hierarchical format that has promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, allowing the theoretical possibility of a very small club to ultimately rise to the very top of the system. So the exact number of clubs varies from year to year because even at the lower levels, like clubs can leave and join leagues and merge or full altogether. But there's an estimated average of 15 clubs per division, meaning that more than 7000 teams are members of a league in the English man's football league system. So what this boils down to is that a certain number of the most successful clubs in each league can rise to a higher league. That's promotion. And those that finish the season at the bottom of their league find themselves sinking down a level. That's relegation. Does the sound familiar to you now? Those of our friends that also play learned league, that's exactly how this is set up to. So if you finish at the top of your rundle, you may be promoted if you finish toward the bottom of your runway you may be relegated to a lower level below you. And in addition to sporting performance, promotion is usually contingent on meeting criteria that set by higher league levels. So things like having the appropriate facilities and finances and things set in place too. So at the top is the single division of the Premier League. That's level one, often referred to as top flight. And there are those 20 clubs. Below the Premier League is English football league, which is divided into three divisions of 24 clubs each, so you have the EFL Championship, such as level two, the EFL League One, which is level three and the EFL league two, which is level four. And these are all full time professional clubs. The next tier of non league football is called the national league, even though it has league in the name. This has a national division called the nationally, which is level 5. There's 24 clubs. You don't have to remember any of this. I'm just kind of filling this spelling information. The lowest level with a single nationwide league. Then there's level 6. So that's the national league north national league south, each have 22 clubs. And so on and so on. There's level 7 level 8 level 9 level ten and finally level 11, which is the regional feeder leagues. So in the Premier League, the rules for relegation. So Premier League level one, 20 teams, your bottom three teams get relegated. You can't be promoted when you're already in League One, because you're already at the top. The second, the English football league championship, which is level two, there are 24 teams. Three teams get promoted and three get relegated. So the top two are automatically promoted and the next four complete in the playoffs with the winner gaining the third promotion spot. And then your bottom three are relegated. So it goes on and on like this. So in the next level, level three is 24 teams, three get promoted for get relegated. Level four, the English football league two. There's 24 teams, three get promoted, four get relegated. And again, so on and so on, dividing all the way down to level 11. Okay. But what we're talking about here is the Premier League. So there are 20 club teams in the Premier League. And during the course of a season, which usually runs from August to May, each club plays the other team twice. So there's a double round Robin system in place. They play once at their home stadium and once at their apartment stadium. So there's a total of 38 games played. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a tie or a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. So your teams are ranked by total points, and then you have to have some tiebreakers in there so things like full differential scored and then if your points are still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. But if there is a tie for the championship for relegation or for qualification to other competitions, there is a playoff match at a neutral venue. So that's kind of fun. That's kind of exciting. Yeah. So for the 2021, 2022 Premier League. It was scheduled originally to run from August 2021 to May 2022. I should note in December 2021, multiple matches were postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreaks in multiple clubs with many clubs calling for the league to actually shut down through 2022. So following a meeting on December 20th, this involved all 20 Premier League clubs. They made a decision to fulfill their scheduled matches over the Christmas period where it was safe to do so. And clubs were advised that if they had 13 fit players and a goalkeeper, then they should fulfill their schedules. So at this time of recording, they're not quite back up to where they are, especially if you've had some outbreaks within clubs. But they're going to they're going to power through at this point in time. Yes. So 20 teams are competing in the league this season. The top 17 teams from the previous season and the three teams who were promoted from the league below. Just an alphabetical order. Here's who's in this year. Arsenal, they're team nickname is the Gunners. They're from London. Aston Villa, their nicknames are the villains or the lions and they're from Bernie. Brentford, their nickname is the bees. I love them. They're from London. Brighton and hove Albion. They're also known as Brighton. Their nickname is the seagulls or Albion. And they're from Brighton England. Burnley, whose nickname is the clarets, and they're from Burnley Lancashire. Such a British name..
