"Wait. We actually got all the way through week number one. Pair of Monday night Football games and we are now through one week, and as much as I have been trying to temper my enthusiasm and stay somewhat Cautious in my exuberance. It's not so easy for me. I have a feeling that because of how well the NFL is handling its business. This is going to be like a typical season in that all of a sudden it's going to be one month down and then two months down and then boom, it's going faster and faster, like the rest of 2020. I know it felt like it times that The days were were crawling by March April, maybe even into May, depending on your business and what you were doing over the course of the spring. Oh, gosh, I still can't believe it's mid September. We've had two weeks to adjust to the fact that it's September and I'm still haven't been able to process it fully. And so the rest of this year has flown by as much as it feels like it's crawling at times. And having looked forward to football for weeks and weeks and weeks. I now kind of feel like it's going to really pick up steam. And so here we are completely through week number one. Yea Before we even talk about money, I football games. I have to tell you how much I appreciated all of your tweets and your Facebook posts over the last 24 hours. You all are really supportive. And I know you were excited about football returning like I was most of you. Many of you listen to the show, but a lot of you went out of your way to send me posts. To tell me how much you enjoyed our first Sunday night into Monday Football show, which honestly those air 16 hour work days, and so we put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it. A lot of heart a lot of effort and because of personnel changes and the fact there's just two of us on the show. Now it's a lot to navigate a lot to handle. And so the fact that you sent so many tweets and Facebook posts and really unsolicited Felt like I was asking you for them or expecting them. But many of you told us how much you enjoyed the show, whether you heard it live. Or whether you caught it on the podcast, and that makes me happy. But, yes, I am pretty jazzed up pretty giddy over the return of the NFL, and I'm pretty confident that that bleed through on the show. I try not to talk too fast. I tried to talk too loud, but there is no way that I can contain my excitement. Trying to contain my excitement is like trying to contain Christian McCaffrey. Now it's me my favorite call of the week, although it was a gut punch with did Miller on the Lion's radio network with Poor DeAndre Swift, the touchdown. That wasn't the touchdown. I saw a lot of that in week Number one. It's not perfect. It wasn't a seamless performance for the offense the entire time. But the fact of these out there, and he's able to fling the ball around the fact that he has touched with his surgically repaired elbow. When we saw that with the first touchdown.

"F. Game any chance you watch the SEC SEC championship game. The other night I watched enough of it. Okay were you listening to Gary Danielson during the game at Joe Borough came from outer space. I did the Gary Danielson was like it is amazing to watch. Joe Borough redefine what a quarterback looks like and I wish somebody would have stopped had been like what the hell does that. Mean like. Not even accusatory. Like what exactly is it that you're talking about here. And when I said that on twitter a whole lot of people came back with like all the black quarterbacks Bra br I'm not even talking about the black quarterback like Joe Boroughs. Doing is really good and I think he's going to be the number one. Pick in the draft up and call in that for weeks. But he's not doing anything that we've never pursue before also came to find out gauge. They've been out here comparing Joe Borough to Tom Brady. I have seen those comparison but my thing is. I don't understand how you compare anybody anybody to Tom Brady. And the reason. I don't understand how you compare people to Tom Brady. Is What makes Tom Brady. Distinct is simply excellence. Like there's nothing that I'm GonNa see a guy do and be like oh he looks. It's like Tom Brady that you can't see anybody else do. That's not to say that Tom Brady is in great. But what makes Tom Brady. Greatest greatness so when you see somebody like Michael Vick this on the really distinct. You've never seen before on that so we'll Lamar. Jackson comes around. I see how you wind up making that sort of comparison or Michael Vick comes around and you compare him to Steve Young guys. They run around like that. I see what it is that people are talking about. But we're brady the only way that you can be. Tom Brady is to be like really excellent for like fifteen years in the league. That's all you got like. That comparison doesn't in whole is. I'm like yeah. Why are people getting so far ahead of themselves? When it comes to Joe Borough and then I got to looking at the League so gave I got some interesting testing for you to think about think about the time period of the NFL from nineteen ninety? Eight through two thousand is in and five that time period. Let me tell you came into the NFL. During that time period right here the guys who came into League at quarterback and I'm going off the top of my head here. You let me know if I missed anybody peyton manning Donovan mcnabb Michael Vick drew brees Carson. Palmer Tom Brady got about him. Philip Rivers Bear Burger ally Madden Addin Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. All right so that's eleven dudes who all turned out to be if nothing else pretty pretty good. NFL quarterback right. If I'm not mistaken gave every single one of those guys that I named played in a conference championship game at one point every single one. That's it's a pretty like golden era for quarterbacks coming into the NFL and that is a period of eight drafts that we have now. Let's take a look at the. NFL from two thousand six through college twenty eighteen. How many like good quarterbacks came in the League during that time period? Unlikely Jimmy Good quarterbacks that two thousand six draft had Vince Young Matt Liner and Jay Cutler. Right I guess you could maybe say Jay Cutler is kind of good but that really count right. That's the two thousand six draft not so much two thousand seven. NFL draft gaping you anybody. I can't think anybody that came into league in two thousand seven draft that was worth talking about at quarterback Jamarcus Russell draft after all Two Thousand Eight. You Got Matt Liner. I mean excuse me Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco Laco those were your guys coming out of their draft. Two thousand nine. You Got Matt Stafford Twenty Ten. You Got Right Sam Bradford right and hey guys. I don't think I'm missing anybody here like I think I just gave you. Who all the quarterbacks were they came into the League league in that time period all right there? That's what I think we've got here okay. Now here's why I bring that up that Oh four class it's possible that none of those dudes will be in the league. Next Year Robs Burger. Eli Manning and Philip Rivers is possible that we're not going to see any of those guys started next year ready got whispers about. They're trying to bench Philip rivers. You saw ally manning and Rosberg looks like he's cooked so even if he's back is he going to be any good. We don't really have a great answer on that one. Tom Brady if I had to guess Tom Brady is not going to be at the very least the starter for the New England the Patriots next year. I don't see that habit. How much time left do we have with drew brees? I don't think we have very much Carson Palmer does went out the door and not that long ago I'm bringing all these dudes up just to say we are about to lose a lot. I repeat a lot of really really Lee really good quarterback that we've had throughout time not just quarterbacks who were good but quarterbacks that the promotion of the NFL has rested on right. They've built promotion around drew brees. They built promotion about Rothlisberger. Like these big name quarterbacks like that Yo we're about to push a whole wave of them out of the League League at one time in the next generation who is it like where is where are your great Middle Age quarterbacks you you don't really have them as far as I can tell Alex Smith is done. I think it's fair to say. I wish him the best. He's rehabbing you ain't got nothing else to do Aaron Rodgers. He's even starting to talk about like the end is near but for a whole like five year period there. You had some good quarterbacks but other the Aaron Rodgers Gabes any any of them been great Matt Ryan had that great season but. I don't think you'd argue. That Matt Ryan Has Been Great. I don't think you'd argue. Joe FLACCO Super Bowl. Notwithstanding has it's been great you wouldn't say it about Matt Stafford you and say he's been great. You certainly wouldn't say that. Sam Bradford has been great. You Get to the twenty eleven draft Cam Cam. Newton in the word greatness gets to be tricky. 'CAUSE I can make an argument that is great but you could also make an argument that Matt Ryan has been a better performer though. I think that we most of us would take cam. Newton over ver- Matt Ryan but the other quarterbacks that went in the first round of that draft ric Blaine Gabbert Christian ponder and Jake Locker the twenty twelve draft a gave us Andrew Luck who who was on the way to be in great before he decided he didn't WanNa play anymore Robert Griffin. You seem was going on with that Ryan. Tannehill apparently just woke up and decided. I'm play great. I don't know if he's necessarily good. But you've got this big gap INC quarterbacks between two thousand five and when this thing really starts picking up which I would say is really twenty seventeen an because the two thousand fourteen draft is Teddy Bridgewater Johnny Manziel and Blake Bortles the twenty thirteen draft. Oh goodness that was the best quarterback out of that John Lewis Gino Smith. EJ Manuel only first round pick. That was taking draft twenty fifteen wisdom. Tomorrow I don't think we got anybody that was really killing it out of that. I know we got Jimmy. Amy Garoppolo somewhere in that stretch but I mean come on Jimmy Garoppolo. 2017 is when he's cracking. Yeah Mitch Trubisky. We'll see how that goes. But that's where you get Watson that's when you get Mahomes mahomes twenty eighteen. That's where you get Lamar Jackson. I think we're still up in the air on the rest of those guys and to a degree rub in the air by Lamar Jackson. If we're going to be honest has the body but do you hear what I'm saying is going on here. We've got a really big age gap in what good quarterbacking is. Oh Kirk cousins. He came in in in two thousand twelve like the two thousand twelve draft of the guys who were left from the two thousand twelve draft the best performer. On the league's probably Kirk cousins and Russell Wilson. Sorry Raza wasn't in one. We got that guy. My point simply is. This league is built itself around quarterbacks for a very very long time. It's about to have to build itself around different quarterbacks now and he's going to have to build itself now around younger quarterbacks right that's Sunday night match-ups start looking a lot different than it used to. We're now going to get the Watson mahomes matchups on Sunday night. We're now going to get mahomes. Lamar Jackson we're going to get those kinds of games on Sunday. Night Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be elevated into that class because they have have to. They just don't have enough quarterbacks they don't but what it looks like to be a top notch. NFL quarterback is a lot different now than it was before and from from here on out. The next wave quarterback man is going to be dudes who can throw. But he's going to be due to move like we are in the middle of the paradigm shift right now and we're about to watch the previous paradigm basically all pushed out of here around the same time everything about the. NFL is going to have to look different. Because everything is senator around the quarterback all the discussions that you hear are going to have to change. Because of the ways that the quarterbacks themselves have changed the new era I really think is going to start in twenty twenty and I am looking forward to seeing how the NFL goes about pushing this how the NFL goes about promoting these guys what their strategies are are going to be. Because you ain't GonNa have many quarterback left that can do wrangler commercials. You're not although wouldn't be funny. Like Lamar Jackson Wrangler Commercial. The Jackson Little Nasdaq's doing the wrangling commercial. Did you see Lamar Jackson rocking. The White Sleeps in the game idea. I can't tell whether or not there could be a serious troll. Yeah I can't tell I have no idea right like I've seen people I can see why you would assume it was. I have no idea if it was the case. The thing that made tricky was he wasn't so good in the first half of the second half he didn't have leaves Lee's on he was bald and San Francisco. Like I told you I also told you. The Christian politician started over kind of cabinet. Get Twenty sixteen. Pure coincidence that those thing thanks for the same man totally one hundred percent. But I'm new day. It's a new era and I'm looking.

"Get mortality just moving players around I wouldn't necessarily look at it that way board if you're of the mindset that the big ticket item such as Anthony Randolph is going to be finding his way city failed that is where you'd be gravely mistaken the minutes ago Zack Wheeler Zach will is going to be pitching somewhere else whether it's Atlanta the Yankees the Astros whoever's in the market for starting pitching it's going to be cold gonna be Strasbourg he's gonna be right there he's not coming back and taking a one year qualifying offer as he's good he's got the Mets will then give it to probably signing starting pitchers not as good and also on a boat panel I see your point is for is a lateral move potentially with the way this offseason could check out let's have some pieces you like lawns McNeil we're sorry I'll for all the Koran but they need to take that core improve upon it sold that's where we'll be in agreement not the idea of just shuffling the deck the idea of taking a team at one eighty seven games and said how do we get to that next level and that's going to make moves this offseason that there I say put in apposition to thirty six here on this Tuesday morning it's Jane J. after that judges Jansky right here on a fad eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six so we see the end of the quarterback lasted two thousand for you at a rank them they're all this burger Eli manning Philip rivers what's your order morning calls would come right back the holiday rush is coming.

"With what we saw a down in Mexico City for Monday Night Football and it was rather entertaining Monday Night Football game between the Kansas City Chiefs any LA charges as the chiefs now playing get out war every which way and if you look at total yardage if you walk the yards per play if you won't get the numbers in the first half is game you know the charges should be dealt by our thirteen to fifteen points in Kansas city at a one point lead going into the locker room due to gross incompetence from the Chargers every which way and my big take away watching this game watching the first staff and see the Chargers kick field goal after field goal seeing some of the ill advised exploit couple Perot's from Philip rivers combine that with Patrick ball home store to get cooking and of course the final drive of the game in which the Chargers defense today credit put the hard top anger made big plays balsa make big plays they were on the field basically the entire second half we get big games quarterback they gave their offense a chance to gold and win the game Philip rivers couldn't take it and watching a guy that let's be honest looks completely shot as an NFL quarterback Philip rivers last year went through this career renaissance the charges had a great year we went on Thursday night against the chiefs at arrowhead they won a playoff game against will more Jackson in Baltimore and then they went up to New England and got absolutely shellac game was over before it even began since that point Philip rivers is what type of quarterback who's got no zip honest rose who's thrown the ball up in the air I mean he could have easily thrown six interceptions in this game I'm not exaggerating by saying this he too for the game he easily could have drawn six maybe even seven for those who want to have some fun and go through the drive to drive to brawl not exactly pretty not exactly fun to watch and you see this with quarterbacks when they lose it they lose it with these numbers for full of rivers over what the last name sixty socks fifty eight interceptions one playoff appearance sound familiar it should you know what do you I'm adding has done over his last sixty starts fifty four interceptions and one playoff appearance you think about great quarterback class two thousand four and I'd sit on multiple occasions Harold this burger Eli manning and Philip rivers I think overall going to find their way into okay in Ohio I brought this burger is a lock thank you I'm adding because of what he was able to accomplish in the Superbowl two time Super Bowl MVP beating Tom Brady and bill Belichick twice that's gonna hold its weight in gold he's going to end up getting into the hall of fame and I think because of the longevity in the numbers and the standard of excellence throughout the regular season folk rivers I think it's going to get in the game awhile some may say it's available I think he gets in what we are watching all right now and what we are witnessing where again a first hand look at the end of the quarter backlash of two thousand four think about it for a minute you are my name is don he's not going to play on the New York Giants after this year odds are he will retire New York Giants I'd be very very surprised if you I'm adding next year's where in a different uniform they're all this burger has been out since week two of this year I get the sense Ben Roethlisberger wants to come back I think the Steelers want him to come back considering they made the trade for their first round pick they she will make a fits Patrick I don't think you make a trade like that I sure hope and pray Ben is going to be right or that may so we're off is going to be a star and correct me if I'm wrong I don't think anybody watching the Steelers route the sure would make the argument that Mason Rudolph has small red all over him I mean it is not exactly will back a guy that's going to be a star quarterback in this league and then you have full burgers and you would have thought that Philip rivers because of the year the Chargers had the last season and you would have thought be chose Keenan Allen is there Mike Williams is there you got to good backs at least for now in Melvin Gordon Iraq war that he would be set up for success that may be the quarterback who has won a Superbowl of the Tory could maybe make that lies the Jeffords to try and get one I get the sense folks Phil prefers is not going to get any closer Superbowl betting the last year after watching the last two weeks and that's the beauty of the NFL we should pay our allies you know you're not doing your job properly we sit there watch all the games watching the chance to watch the giants you watching red zone you watching this primetime in an three days a week football in the NFL it's sort of going through my brain on a TV set time and time again you get a chance to watch over given Sunday but we've watched the entirety of the Chargers their last two games the raiders last Thursday night this game against the chase I see seven interceptions in two games I see some of the decisions that are being made I see the arm strength which is diminished I believe if I am running the Los Angeles Chargers you want to tell me next year I'm running back Philip rivers hoping that you know I've been a log by offense winds will be better I'm a little bit more success in the close games amazing charges one all the close games last year they should lose all across campus that's the NFL but I think the charges would be crazy to this record identifying a quarterback in the future whether it's spoken the Miami Dolphins about Josh rose which is possible considering Rosen is a California kid on the charges on to go beyond that I'm examining the draft prospects of all quarterbacks who could be available whether it's still borrow won't be there to attack of Iowa who maybe maybe not we'll be there for you when you're picking in the top fifteen Harvard I take a look at him from I take a look at him you got to be doing your research if you the Chargers because look at the direction the league is going in think about what is now happening to these quarterbacks of this fable class of two thousand four they've been phased out you are many has been phased out at some point John Ben Roethlisberger is going to be phased out and yeah the L. each soldier should be phasing for perverts out all by the way is a free agent at the end of this year lot of people thought the LA charges will be back as a contender as a team that could make some serious noise in the AFC you can basically disregard all of that with that now for seven on the air and she's book they all fall from the team we saw last year no one Tyree showcase down the field number two they defense is awful I mean the charges should be moving the ball well on that team why they abandon the wrong one I don't know what to add to the way in and a new offense of corner with thinking you had Melvin Gordon wanted all over them in the first half a game and you basically said you know what which is going to put in the hands of full Berbers like its last season like it's all rolled two thousand and nine news flash in a two thousand and nine that is going to be your chance and your path the breed a team that's led by Patrick my homes and you look at the numbers from homes in the first half is game man I was often I'm considering a famously does going against themselves they okay with the glee statistical numbers that he was not what anytime you have a quarterback held in check of that magnitude and you don't have a lead there is a serious problem there quarterback playing coaching red zone offense quarterback for sale of the decision making that interception he'd throw in the fourth quarter we came on the line that is a rookie mistake that is as bad as it gets and if that doesn't tell you the end is here for Philip rivers I don't know what well he looks like a quarterback that is totally shot and you just think about the leak we'll send not been V. pia Jackson the amazing here he is at my homes all of these you own mobile athletic quarterbacks you will be introducing more over the next two years you're almost witnessing firsthand that like seismic shift sometimes it happens more gradually than others we say goodbye to those faces that you use the Syrian Sunday after Sunday I know for a lot of jazz offense it's probably weird and it was over the first week or two thinking about your team watching your team and not seen a lot of adding a quarterback I mean at some you custom to for basically a decade and a half the Steelers have felt the exact same way about Ben Roethlisberger I mean think about how weird it must be for them to go to this year with him being away to be found now bear is a little different because he's missed a lot of time with injuries more so than the other two Phil is it seen the likes of vinyl Charlie bad sure think about some of the guys there started quarterback for them I mean they've had some steps backup quarterback villages dot off I mean Charlie batch he was like the backup quarterback that would be in and out in and out in and out he and Byron Leftwich they wanted to like prototypical Steeler backup quarterbacks to ban so maybe we got used to it a little bit but still that was their franchise full Bremer's has been the franchise with the Chargers and I'm confident saying this hearing will have that happy ending and that is one element of Philip rivers game that will be void on the resume they're all those burgers go walk out you know he's going to see the end of his career to symbol championships three trips to the Superbowl you are nodding even though the last five or six years have been a nightmare for you I'm not in he's going to be looking up and he's gonna say you know what I went out against this the moral Hey coach this is a moral quarterback arguably the greatest to ever do it and I was a part of a team that beat him not just once but I beat him twice the rivers.

"Postseason game on the road to Super Bowl fifty three in Atlanta harbor Buddy Ryan eagle along with Tony Boselli sideline. Reporter Ben Lieber. Ben will join us shortly from downstairs ads. Well, Scott Graham from our studios later this afternoon, most of these same stations it'll be the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears game two of our wildcard doubleheader. But first it's time for the chargers. And the ravens Tony. It's the playoffs. These two teams got here in very different ways. The ravens are back in the post season for the first time since two thousand fourteen and Lamar Jackson their rookie quarterback has been a revelation. They changed their entire offense. And it has been so effective a six in one stretch to qualify for the postseason. I and they went for many pass happy. Barely could run the ball offense with Joe flacco to almost as like watching the whispering. When we were kids, you know, those old teams. I mean, it's power football with they option built in almost on every quarterback option. Lamar Jackson is rushed the ball more than any quarterback since the merger in modern era. Amazing. It is amazing. What he's done, and it's a completely different feeling here as well. Because it's almost back to the year two thousand when they had this great defense and ran the ball in one in spite of the quarterback. Now, they're not doing that. Lamar Jackson is a huge part of this ability to get on the edge and do things with his legs. But it's the defense because they have limited opportunities on the field now because the ravens control the clock. I mean, it is all built around the mar- Jackson and what he can do with his legs not as on. And whether this is sustainable down the road is not a question for today. Can they win today and move on to the playoffs? That's the challenge for Baltimore. Amore against a Los Angeles team that finished twelve and four tied with Kansas City best record in the AFC, but based on the tie breakers. They drop all the way down to the five seed Philip rivers is thirty seven years old. And he's been doing this a long time how many more chances does he get in this arena on this stage in the postseason? It's a great opportunity for a very talented charger squad, by the way, I think they're happy that they're on the road there. Eight zero outside of LA county. Hold other. No, we'll talk about. But he talked about Philip rivers. And you've got to remember who he was drafted with the office. Burger Eli manning. They both have rings. I in so much of a quarterback position today is about the hardware has won the big game and Philip rivers talk this week. But he doesn't how many more opportunity you have. Because.

"All of a sudden now is not planning to ask these leading plays the bellow pcs defense's the offense of winds given them time he it's woods on a 94 your touchdown pass now that takes time behalf murray and you have to have the poise and the wherewithal to stand in there and just hold the ball knowing that it's going to happen and then when you release said woods is just getting to the defender and then the ball was released but it takes time for that all the happened down build so there are certain guys with great poison tom brady's one of those guys drew brees is one of those guys full burgers eli manning has been one of those guys throughout his career these young players sometimes play the game way too fast and that's why i really worry about play quarrels jacksonville jackson got a great defense and it's going to be believe it or not i i'm telling you right now jacksonville both of those teams i believe will make the playoffs one's gonna win the division the other one will win a wild and it's all going to come down to weeks seventeen jacksonville at tennessee question you would ask me who do you think's gonna win that game i was a based on the quarterback she got to go with tennessee right because marcus mario to wall not you know an upper echelon quarterback just yet seems to have a lot more poise and those things on the field than blake boral's those but it it does go back to communicating boy portals probably doesn't communicate as well as some of these other players and the more your versed in the the you know the the language of the offense the if you are and the less you are burdened by the uncertainties that you're going to be playing here is a john and we hawkin next up on the fair with boomer what's up john bao's ago johnny what's apple them all right so i'm a i'm a giant fan yup that's her root against the giant but this week i found myself really rooting against them so we can get a high picked i mean this team has just done i feel like last year was the.

"Any nfl and we all know that come on the quarterback position it is the hardest position roster spot to fill in the nfl it always has been not because you're looking for the tom brady's of the world but anybody capable or confident enough to be able to hold the fort down well you can do some other things really well like i don't know run the ball play great defense or something along those lines now the problem is that those there's a lot of teams right now that are having a very hard time even filling that position with guys that are less than mediocre which is why names like my goal line and the right now are at the top of the free agent quarterback list of hot and i'm talking talked pickups for teams like the jets you would think it was like peyton manning you know when he was released from the colts i mean all the the hope around might glenn in the and tie rod taylor i have never heard my going his name is much in his entire career is i'm listening to it right now over the last four or five days the name mike on mike line and i'm sure you know and is available the jets are looking rome i got it all the guys now others the jets mike glennon mike glennon chicago should garner all and mike glennon what what in the hell is going on here and maybe this is the gray's is part of it all right now let me give you some numbers chris the truth is in the numbers on just how unbelievable the quarterback position and how hard it is to fill the numbers that are surrounding it friend since there are twenty two quarterbacks who have a current deals for this year that average when you put those twenty two together they average sixteen million a year in the twenty two million plus categories you have names like andrew luck carson palmer drew brees kirk cousins joe flacco aaron rogers okay that's the twenty two million plus the nineteen million two just under twenty two million you've got names like russell wilson ben roughness burger eli manning philip rivers cam newton matt ryan tom brady and ryan tannehill then underneath bare you've got the sixteen million two just under nineteen million category that.
