They live local, the people want McDonald's just down the street from me. It's a local business and I understand their frustration because through all the pandemic as we've been encouraging people to shop local and get away from the big brands from the big chains off depends on if it's a franchise or not. If you go to Target and Walmart those aren't local but Subway and McDonald's and Burger King might just be and I feel their frustration. How Biden's Emissions Plan Will Affect How You Eat

"Climate plan could limits you to just eating one burger a month, making cost you about $3.5000 a year in taxes and force you to spend about 55 grand on an electric car. The experts say that this plan could crush American jobs. Yet Joe Biden announced the goal is to cut emissions by 2030 compared to the 2005 levels and start a two day climate summit started that yesterday wraps up today and he vowed the plan which would set the US on a path to zero emissions economy and by no later than 2050 would create jobs and boost the economy, he says. But he has yet to release any firm details on exactly how much that plan will affect our daily lives of ordinary Americans, and it could prompt some sweeping changes that could affect how Americans eat, drive and even heat their homes. Let me explain. Part of the plan calls for cutting your red meat consumption by 90% on animal products by 50%. Americans would have to cut their red meat consumption by a whopping 90% to cut their consumption of other animal based foods in half, Gradually making those changes my 2030 and you could see a diet related greenhouse gas emissions they save reduced by 50%, according to a study from Michigan University. Not to do that you as an American would only be able to consume about £4 of red meat per year a year a year. That's 40.18 ounces per day. He quits the it equates to consuming roughly on average on average sized burger per month. I see

Ah you'd think there'd be some studies of consumers and indeed there are for example girls who meet may start their periods six months earlier than girls. Who don't is it just. Because they're eating. Lots of protein and fat evidently not because girls who instead are eating meat analogues like veggie burgers veggie dogs or able to delay menstruation by nine months. of course. it's hard to tease out. Why You Should Promise Less To Make More

"We all heard the saying under promise over deliver now. I don't actually agree with that statement because under promising sounds like you're holding back purposely so you can overdeliver. There are too many coaches out there. That are promising. I'm gonna get you to seven eight figures there's too many software platforms out there. That are saying it's going to do everything for you including making breakfast every day. Every answer to the cue's is yes. Yes yes we can do this too many online courses or her saying that we cover everything under the sun. This is really dangerous. And it's for several reasons number one when your product when your offer when your course when you're coaching says it does so many things. Most customers read that as these are all the things i have to do. These are all the things. I have to learn. These are all the things. I have to utilize the software. And it's actually a turnoff. It actually turns away customers because it becomes overwhelming. You think. hey i wanna give more value. I wanna give them so many things. I want to show them all the things they can do. But that's not how we function human beings. We love small promises. We love very focused value. Think of your favorite restaurant okay. One of my favorite restaurants is a japanese place. Okay it's a little is a kaya joint that's really really delicious. they do. Little is a kaya. You know a type of platters and they do rahman and they're really focused on kind of japanese street food and i love them because our menus very very limited. I go there for the delicious food. The atmosphere is just simple and fun. Rarely is your favorite restaurant. The place that serves a japanese food. Chinese food italian burgers steaks seafood indian food. No that's overwhelming and it's very rare to do everything. Well

Master Sri Akarshana | The Yogi With a Lamborghini | Making Decisions Right

"What i always say to people is that it's not about making the right decisions in life. It's about your ability to make a decision and make that decision right because whether leaving home was a at sixteen was a right or wrong. We don't have that conversation right now whether whether being fights whether whether whether working in burger van whether it's taking out a four hundred sixty thousand loan when i was twenty one. That's not my first business whether that was stupid or whether that was right or wrong actually. Nobody needs to judge that right now because at the end of the day i took this step i took this step because i felt it and when i took the step i decided that i'm going to make this work. Whatever step i take. I make sure that i make it work. And as a result of it now many years later. I've made the things work. And what's the result because mom and dad know that i'm safe not only safe. I have this abundance to be able to not only look after myself but look after them and help people around the world and that's all they ever dreamed of. And so i think sometimes it's it's it's not required to have the people around you support you. It doesn't matter if if you want something enough then you go for it you you go all in you. Make sure to make it happen. Make it work. Yes you'll face challenges but if you keep moving and if you keep staying solution focus you'll get there you know

Even when they stick around in gelatinous little lumps the lining of the nose and sinuses also known as the epithelium produce at least one quart. That's one leader of mucus every day. That's a lot of snot. The mucus in your sinuses keeps the nasal linings moist and helps with your sense of smell. Most importantly though it traps dust bacteria pollen and other contaminants mucus essentially acts as a sticky fly strip grabbing pollutants and keeping them from getting into your respiratory system without mucus. Notable Developments on the College Basketball Coaching Carousel Scuttlebutt

"A lot of movement on the coaching carousel. Over the past couple of days the big. One of course was indiana firing archie miller. After four seasons. We talked about that on a previous podcast. So go find it. We're not going to spend any time on that here but let me walk you through the other notable developments richard patino out at minnesota and as up tuesday morning. He's the new coach at new mexico. State has quote parted ways with steve. Prohm depaul finally took. Dave laid off the hot seat list. Boston college hired earl. Grant penn state hired mike castrucci berry dead leg spin a pretty good right now. It's spinning man. Yeah listen we give the. We are gearing up for this tournament. We got we got more than forty eight hours till. We're gonna tip the first game here so as expected. We've had some movement on the carousel. So we'll let's get into a little bit of this This scuttle but here kind of take it job by job. Best job openings indiana. Let's kind of go in order. I guess second best job. That's open. I would say iowa state is a better job than minnesota steve. Prohm gets fired late monday night. His jamie pollard was on the selection committee so he traveled back as he should have to meet with promo person and do what he what needed to be done You and i both seven the podcast in january. We expected steve prone to return next season. But we also didn't expect iowa state to never win a game like he just got to an irreversible point. so he's done. He put out a classy statement on tuesday morning. And i don't know whether or not steve prohm will land somewhere else head. Coaching position this coaching cycle but he will be a head coach again. He did take iowa state to three inch tournaments he was really good prior to that at murray state and certainly qualified for. It's just a matter of Is there anything out there. That he would be offered or anything out there that he would want as for the job. The candidates we're early. But i'm told that this is certainly a coach that you know quite well as well i'm told jamie pollard definitely will be considering. Unlv head coach. Tj burger near the top of his list. I can't say that he is the favorite. I just think that it's objectively true. That tj also burger will be under consideration for the iowa state job along the likes of. You're going to hear puerto moser connected to multiple jobs on this podcast because let's face it especially if he wins at least one tournament game. He's just a hot name. And he's going to be attached to iowa st paul minnesota. I i don't know if you'd be a favorite for state. But i think his name makes sense. I think utah. State's craig smith might make sense and then a high. I do have a wildcard one. Uab's andy kennedy has gone to the sec. Good job at ole miss. He's just one year and at uab but he had he had a really good year. In fact i think he won more games in his first season. This past season than just about anyone. Maybe all of all of the first year coach coaches. So i think that's a fact no first year coach at a new program. One more games this season than ak i. It's just i'm lobbying out. There is a name that should be considered. And then i did see fran for shila tweet this and i do. I do think there's something to it. Like a baylor is a one seed could be in the final four. Hey first time since bill henderson all that good stuff tang is a is a high level power conference assistant that is deserving of an opportunity would come at a power conference level. I don't know. But i think it's only a matter of time before jerome tank. Its job as well. So i'm just tossing him in knows the league as potentially someone that They should consider or at least at the very least interview sets an initial pool of

Koei branch says hughley responsible for a lot of the musso tiles we come across part warriors teams and dynasty warriors skis and hyrule warriors game that kind of stuff and those games generally kinda into boring me over time because they don't derek. They don't differentiate enough between the actions of just mashed putting until you're done. So i was concerned that i wouldn't like personify strikers because there's going to be just more of the same in every attempt i made to get. These games always failed. But i'm happy to report. I've been enjoying persona fai strikers. Like it's the one. The narrative is still kind of their innocence. That you if you like personifies narrative this is a continuation of that game. So if you didn't play royal me You don't have to care You can move right into this game as sequel and the narrative continues on everyone's back together as the phantom fees chatting it up about stuff. Well they didn't choose to become these things happen. That caused them to have to do it again but all prisons again chatting with each other. Yes cool i wanna get like the social leagues and stuff like they used to because of course the game is more streamlined for action gameplay not an rpg but you still get the character interaction the dialogue and the hilarious moments that happened. I wish they'd stop picking on you so much. He's my boy man. My favorite of every every persona game everyone but four and five both had like three four and five had care essentially and i genuinely feel like june june. Pay still probably my top dog because he was so laid back but after him. I think ryuji legit was like john stupidity. Maybe if the cat jerker around so much he wouldn't make comments like he does. I love that. Like oh we're going to do this to save the world. Are we gonna do this. We gotta stop crime in regions like we're going to do this and pick up girls almost. He's the normal he's like the most average he's in group a teenager as the most like average teenager. And so like there's any opportunity like i'm like yeah. My character is going to hang out with reugee and try to pick up girls and of course they're going to fail and it's going to be funny but like i feel like this is the bonding experiences like the the teenagers need. You know i'm not gonna have them like okay now. I gotta go work out all right now. I gotta go to the doctor to get medicine. So that i can go to the next dungeon and no man. I wanted to be a teenager for a while. We'll we'll see what courses you're going to big bang burger on the weekend for saving the world on the weekend saving the world more like it's a great game. The combat is good. The characterizations are great. And the best part is that even the musto elements don't feel so bad because the combat heavily emphasizes exploiting enemy weaknesses like the ship. Montgomery tennessee is known for you. Have to still have decent using your personas though. There's a lot less personas now. So you're not as frustrated with choices anymore. You speeds now as long as you just kinda sort of pay attention to what you're doing you should be okay with your personas but i put it on hard mode because i'm that jerk and in fact whereas it personify i can play the whole game and never go to the store for items and armor. That's not gonna happen here. Because i got to a boss early the game who started mopping the floor with me and i was doing like two four damage per hit keeping in mind on pre was doing like thirty. It was like a nit-pick chip away damage. Bit like the boss. Before that i had one character survive it was panther fight against suck best and she sucky was strong against attacks so it was very frustrating. But i beat it to a grinding at it right. Yeah i have to finally start spending my money and i have to actually level personas and not. Just be like hey weaknesses. Careful fighter. I'll be good like no because sometimes the gain hasn't get by fire blasts off screen and you'll die because you have no armor hit

Peggy Brusseau discusses her new book, "The Contented Vegan"

"How was the contented vegan difference the other things that you've written well it includes as i say it includes a little bit of the thought process behind choosing a plant based diet So i have one whole section called thinking deeper which discusses things like the food chain Plant life animal life and animal welfare as well as the issue of rights. Do we have a right to use the land in the way. We're doing to use animals in the way we're doing so a broad range of thinking processes included in it as well as an emphasis on health and securing health and building good health as well as on family life. You could say stretch that into social life as well so that the the vegan diet or the plant based diet is not considered a problem or a nuisance. That it's normalized ya. Yeah so what. I've done is i've tried to write the contented vegan in a way that is rather more an invitation to people to to try even. If it's just one meal a week that is scheduled to be plant. Based that's step forward in my opinion. And i've tried to make the book a tool kit really so that people who who want to try but don't really know where to start. I can kind of hold their hand a little bit. So for instance. The early on the book. I've introduced what. I call the eighty twenty rule which everyone is familiar with in some form in some aspect of their life and all it is applied to the plant based i had all it is is to to say having look at what you've eaten in the past few days over the past week and decide which you know how much of that is plant based already and generally approximately eighty percent of a person's diet even if they call themselves an omnivore or a meat eater. Approximately eighty percent is already plant. Based i've given the example of a burger. If you take out the burger and replace it with a bean burger you probably have an entirely plant based meal. Just that simple exchange if there's mayo or if there's cheese you can also swapped those for plant based version and have something that looks almost identical to meet based meal so very simple steps can alter the balance And make a meal. It resembles a your normal bill in every other way but make it into a plant based one so the eighty twenty rule says check it out about eighty percent is probably already plant based and all you have to work with the remaining twenty percents and you can do that gradually because there's no hurry. There's no rush to do this. It has to fit you and your circumstances and you can take a couple of years to just pick away at that twenty percent and gradually become more accustomed to a plant based diet or largely plant based diet Pick find your favorite foods and recipes Within that paradigm and then Relaxed into it. So that it's enjoyable. It suits us under your circumstances and you feel comfortable and and

Engaged whilst using innovative creative techniques and technology to promote your business and products. keep listening. I've got you covered boone. Today has looked into the crystal ball and pulled out all the necessary information that you need to note to be ahead of the game this year. So let's get started number. One user generated content. Ugc is way uses create and promote their own content for a brand on social media and it outperformed itself in twenty twenty fall beyond brand created content to be specific ads based on user generated content. Receive four times higher. Click through rates compared to average at as well as twenty eight percent higher engagement rate compared to standard company posts content is created by customers using filters that brands create on snapchat or instagram stories through tiktok videos or even to instagram orioles with the use of tagging and hashtags one of my favorite examples of a brand utilizing user generated content is by the iconic which made its mother's day campaign featuring images and footage of real mothers at home in lockdown struggling with home schooling crying children and so much more. What i love about this campaign is how it is not only unedited. Unfolded user generated content but that it is using this content to remind others. Today are not alone that there are so many people going through the same struggles as they do each day. User generated content is predicted to only saw in twenty twenty one with the use of tiktok. Instagram rails live stories are more. There are so many options for influences to create attention grabbing content. That is relatable fun to watch and so incredibly convincing it has water mouth marketing in a virtual space where word spreads faster than in the real world after all nothing says trust like content created by someone. You completely relate to an empathize with on social media number two in game advertising last march nintendo released animal crossing new horizons and it sold more than thirteen point. Four one million copies in just six weeks if you onshore. Why so many were sold. Some external research about now is advised if you are up to date as you or your son daughter niece nephew cousin parent or even dog plays this game. Twenty four hours a day. Then you can understand the hype about this game now. What is even more fascinating about. This game is what some browns have done by partnering with animal crossing for example marc jacobs release their own virtual collection online allowing users to dress avatar in the luxury clothes of the brand off so they entered a unique code. Only six of their favourite pieces were presented as they are a luxury designer brand off audible but one brown took this partnership to a whole new level. The branded gem oh in france in partnership with the agency caused beef decided that as physical shops are shocked. Why don't they opened a shop in a video game and that is exactly what they did. Their brand or ready to wear clothing was a hit in the animal. Crossing game as these types of clothes are exactly what people were buying obsessively during lockdown comfortable affordable and cozy. The video game was advertising in itself. And if you look on the blog of this article you will see the clothes referred directly to real pieces in real life role who wouldn't want a virtual shopping experience in their favorite video game. If you check out the blog page you'll see some images of the close in real life transported directly to avatars in the video game. This type of advertising is predicted only to rise in twenty twenty one number three product placement. This is thought to be the oldest trick in the book but we predict that. This trend has only just begun from stranger things to suits right down to friends. They're sneaky ways that bronze managed to incorporate their products into popular tv shows and movies. While sixty eight percent of product. Placements lasts for five seconds or less product placement is the largest in foster scoring market in the us generating billions of dollars in revenue which will only grow in twenty twenty one. The next time you sit down to watch your favorite netflix. Show look out for the cleverly place logos of brands to catch your is subconsciously. This is a multibillion dollar market in the advertising industry and it will expand to new heights in two thousand and twenty one for example. If you check out the blog page you will see that in a snapshot from the show stranger things. The logo of burger king could not have been less subtly placed in the image however other times the product or logo is so subtly placed that you might not even notice it the first time round. This is a multi billion dollar market in the advertising industry and it will expand to new heights in twenty twenty one number four nostalgia marketing the world. We live in is not only fast paced but driven strongly by looking towards the future. I also don't need to remind you of the struggles that our planet went through last year from the loss of loved ones due to covid nineteen the loss of houses due to bush fires. The loss of black lives in a fight for equality and so much else. I also can't put into words. The pain that some of us have felt during this year therefore we believe that nostalgia marketing will be boosted to new heights in twenty twenty one studies have shown then style gives our lives a sense of meaning and continuity there by having a positive effect on on mental wellbeing. It brings us a sense of happiness amid chaos and reminds people happier and simpler time thereby encouraging you to buy the product to remind you of all the happy memories nyc pepsi gucci. A mountain jew are a few brands that adopted such a strategy of marketing. And they use this. During twenty twenty. Whilst the wild was trying to navigate itself through unpredictable and unprecedented times for example cheetos included nostalgia marketing in that twenty twenty super bowl advert by introducing cheetos popcorn the advert featured the nostalgic feeling of eating a bag of cheetos up finishing with bright orange fingers. This is something that so many people who are watching the super bowl could relate to as they remember being in the yummy and messy situation when they were younger. We can therefore expect to see some blasts from the past appearing soon on your screens as brands triton transport. You back to the past with some old time favorites. This type of marketing is certainly not new. But walk goes around certainly comes back around and it seems like twenty twenty is where people can use a boost of happiness and a sense of nostalgia number five brand activism purpose driven advertising. We saved the best to lost. Twenty twenty was a year of so many surprises and filled to the brim with certainty and fair for the future. When the world was at a low point many brands were seen taking a stance by voicing their support for those that are struggling. Reebok twitter nyc vocally showed their support for the black lives matter movement through their social media pages. Some brands went even further by inserting brand activism. Into that branding. An even products for example ben and jerry's created the on fudge off future campaign in which they teamed up with the climate council and to fifty dot org australia to encourage the australian government to ditch fossil fuels and use renewable energy. Instead they created a whole new flavor of non dairy ice cream and passing allies it to address the australian prime minister directly saying day. Scott morris make fossil fuels history and a portion of the proceeds from each ice cream was donated to three fifty australia. This was ben. And jerry's way to voice that concern about their is about climate change and to use their power to drive a campaign to pressure the government to invest into one hundred percent renewable energies brand activism. Is trent that will grow to new highs. This year more and more brands are standing up for what they believe. In and this is what makes brands authentic nowadays at noon today we have seen firsthand that campaigns driven by a pappas gain not only ten times more engagement on their platforms but it also shows that browns are committed to

"November seventeenth, nineteen, seventy, eight four young employees of the Burger Chef in speedway Indiana closed up shop. And disappeared. They were twenty year old assistant manager Jane Fried. Eighteen Year Old Ruth Ellen Shelton Sixteen year old Daniel Davis and sixteen year old Mark Fleming's. At midnight, a fellow off duty, employees came to visit his workers. Instead, he found the scene of a burglary. The restaurants back door was wide open, and so was the safe. Five hundred dollars was missing equivalent to around two thousand dollars today. When police arrived, they found two empty currency bags, but no sign of a struggle. Their conclusion was that this was most likely a case of petty employee embezzlement. Despite the fact that the purses of the two girls working that night had been left behind along with their coats in November. Their theory was that the employees had taken the money and gone out partying. The police called the manager to lock up and left without taking pictures or evidence of any kind. Police on the scene expected the kids to turn up by morning. They were wrong. We screwed it up from the beginning officer Buddy L. winger would later admit. The following morning Saturday November eighteenth. Burger chef opened as usual. Employees arrived for their early shift and began cleaning and prepping the restaurant. Oblivious that. They were destroying the evidence at a crime scene of what was about to become a murder investigation. They didn't process it as a murder. They didn't know it was a murder. Recalled? Virgil van De griff a detective from the Marion County Sheriff's department at the time. Police didn't have a clue what was going on in the restaurant. They kind of messed up the crime scene. On Saturday morning the four employees were still missing and soon police discovered Jane's abandoned Vega just blocks from the speedway police department. Then on November nineteenth in Johnson County two days after their disappearance and twenty miles away from Burger Chef. A couple discovered the bodies of the four teenagers scattered in the woods, still wearing their uniforms. Face down and side by side just off a gravel path laid the bodies of twenty year old Ruth Shelton and seventeen year old Danny, Davis. They had been shot. Times in the head, neck and shoulders by a thirty eight caliber. Handgun. Fifty to seventy five yards away lay the body of twenty year old Jane Fright. She had been stabbed twice in the heart so violently that the knife's blade broke inside her chest. Sixteen year old Mark Clemens was farthest away from the others and closest to the main road. He was found on his back near a creek. He'd been beaten around the face possibly with a chain and left to choke on his own blood. Following the discovery of the bodies, dozens of law enforcement officers from multiple agencies crowded the crime scene. One officer described it as quote. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Crucial evidence like the employees uniforms were mishandled. Tom Davidson an early investigator told insider. And in an attempt to cover their incompetent negligence, speedway police returned to the restaurant and staged crime scene photos after the fact. The investigation was botched..

"Let's head back for a second into the late. Eighteen hundreds after almost all the buffalo had been killed and the LAKOTA. People had been confined to reservations in Modern Day. South Dakota. The government eventually delivered herds of live cows but when the LAKOTA mounted horses and hunted the cattle in the ritual way they once hunt the Buffalo. The government was threatened by this show of power after that. They only sent the tribe packaged meat from a nearby slaughterhouse. The tribe didn't accept it instead. They burned the nearby slaughterhouse to the Ground Fast Forward to South Dakota's standing rock in two thousand sixteen as the media followed protests against the Dakota access pipeline carrying oil that was to run through indigenous land endangering the local populations of people animals and water resources and not to mention adding to climate change as the indigenous from all over and their allies were locked in a standoff with riot police. Something miraculous happened the only reason why we're moving. Back to armed with tear-gas right here. Weapons rubber bullets. That's what it takes for them pushes back carry weapons. Because they're scared. What does this mean to you? This traditional land. Manning's everything over there all the buffalo in what was certainly a noble gesture one that enraged Fox News as they declared a war on the Eagle. Barack Obama made the buffalo the first national mammal of the United States the same year as those protests it held a painful irony while hamburgers have represented the dominance hierarchy so precious to colonial Americans history. The Buffalo represents what we cannot imagine any more a world that we take care of one that takes care of us one that we have dominion over but we don't dominate in the end when there's nothing left to take what will be the beauty of America turning away from reality doesn't make it go away but it's true that our brains carry us through it with the maximum amount of comfort. But what is the cost of this comfort and even more so when all is said and done what is the cost of our conquering.

"The Red Man was pressed from this part of the West. He's likely no more to return to the banks of Red River where seldom if ever there flickering campfires burn European cattle continue to multiply in the south especially during the civil war when men left their ranches to fight returning to a shock of cows. Their numbers suddenly reaching five million because of the new flood of Supply. Beef became very cheap in the south and ranchers were going broke but soon the answer revealed itself a great deal of cows were needed to feed the growing populations in the expanding midwest eventually scores of rugged cowboys wrangled their cattle driving them hundreds of miles learning as they went how to best control. The herds as these cowboys in their cattle came pouring into Chicago a handful of companies immediately jockey to control the market largely by exploiting immigrant labor and the local ranchers that had previously raised their cows for the local community. These meat packing companies set up the terrifying slaughter houses. We know today that killed millions of cows every year in what amounted to the first industrial production lines a structure that would later seriously influence Henry Ford's and then later the fast food industry. These companies began using additives. And then sending this meet via train all over the country expanding the market these companies were no longer interested in local beef and all the while getting rich as hell this. Industrialization of meat meant that people no longer relied on trusted butchers. In their communities they would no longer come into contact with the animals. They ate instead. The meat arrived. Pre cut the way. We see meat packaged on ice. At the grocery store the mass production of beef meant that high and low classes alike could afford it for newcomers. It was a taste of this mythical America. The land of plenty where anyone could become a steak stuffed fat cat. Letters would pass between nations with correspondences like every day. You must be kidding. It can't be true with its beginnings as a tough cowboy. Fantasy beef was the only prepared meal that was at least in part. A man's domain women were constantly reprimanded and mocked for choosing the wrong cut from a butcher or cooking the stakes incorrectly with a New York Herald article reprinted and several other newspapers. Let's watch some horror movies together and now back to the show. The more conservative forces of America began to make alliances between the government and the rapidly growing business industry that lasts this day one such do came during the Spanish American war of eighteen ninety eight when these companies wanted to ship out there beef for the lowest possible cost and without proper refrigeration under President William McKinley the US army stationed in Cuba was provided chemically adulterated. Canned beef rations that merely poisoned the army into defeat. The soldiers rapidly fell ill too serious food poisoning that. I thought to be caused by malaria or yellow fever in reality the weakened immune systems of the men made the diseases much worse. Some of the meat had rotted in the cans turning putrid. It was often described as embalmed with one army medical officer describing it like this. It looked well but had an odor similar to that of a dead human body after being injected with Formaldehyde but the final nail in the coffin of beefs early rain came when author Upton Sinclair published his famous Nineteen O. Six expose of the Chicago Slaughterhouse Industry. Though he had desired to shine a socialist light on labor abuses faced by the majority immigrant workers his descriptions of the horrifying conditions faced by the underpaid and sometimes mutilated employees. Were largely ignored. It was the description of rats running inside. The machines meets contaminated with tuberculosis body. Parts crushed along with beef that got the public's attention as Upton Sinclair. Put it himself quote I aimed at the public's heart and by accident I hit it in the stomach. His reports contributed to what would become the pure food and drug act of Nineteen. O seven and from then on the quality of beef would become standardized and allegedly safe but it would take the public a while to trust. The government and meat industry's again and beef would decline in popularity at least for the time being the early version of the hamburger was mostly associated with lower class. Hangouts like circuses and Fairs but by the nineteen twenties the very first fast food chain white castle repackaged beef for a still skeptical general public hoping that middle class clients might be persuaded to trust again using white as their primary design color founder. Walter Anderson also opened up the kitchen to the public with burgers being cooked right before their eyes white castle would aim for a many American immaculate fantasy which included the trusted faces of their brand. The spreading franchises were instructed to hire young white men between the ages of nineteen and twenty four. They were required to pass a physical and their histories including family backgrounds were examined for good behavior. After they passed these rigorous tests. They were all required to wear the same uniform. White shirt black tie and clean white always unstained apron. They demanded no jewelry hair and fingernails trimmed short and a clean shaven face at all times and then came the famous white paper hats which all employees were required to wear and then still stain obsessed. They were made to wear disposable paper aprons to white castle provided endless white napkins all produced by paper manufacturing company that they themselves brand is a subsidiary it worked and white castles popularity exploded. It seemed that beef was back and boy was looking good right from wrong. A World War. Two left the country starving for good news and in a booming postwar economy. You could say that this happiness was manufactured. Four Americans fast food became clean. Predictably uniform each location easy to trust in its simplicity with middle-class teenage car culture exploding in the affluent one thousand nine hundred fifties car hops walked or roller skated out two groups of friends laughing and cars or lovers cuddling up next to each other like white castle. These workers were originally clean. Cut White men but after World War. Two forced women to replace men in their previous jobs. They became the primary car hops even after the men returned. It was clear that the women were attracting more customers likely because they were often required address like cheerleaders skating joyfully out to deliver the meat. That don't worry. They didn't cook but that meet sure. Looked good in the hands of a beautiful woman under the growing influence of psychologist Sigmund Freud. The fast food industry adopted the theories of the subconscious using advertising methods. That certainly last through to the present day. Burgers were manly. Yes but they were also safe and dependable. When McDonald began questioning the Golden Arches? That had become their trademark logo. A psychologist slash design consultant gave his Freudian opinion..

"Once he gets this place up and running he's going to sell insterburg franchises. This is going. Be huge Edgerton Zeise light up at the mention of franchises. That sounds like a great idea for a restaurant say how about I forget Dairy Queen and become a Instagram franchisee. Instead. Kramer, didn't expect to be selling franchises this soon. But he's not turning the opportunity down. Sure. Let's talk. Great. But can I make a suggestion? I sure. You should call. It insta- Burger King. It will sound more. Impressive. It's April nineteen fifty four. Dave Edgerton isn't impulsive guy. But he's praying. He's made the right bet. He switched from ice cream to burgers in an instant. And immediately set his new franchise plan in motion. Now, it's been a month since Edgerton opened his insta- Burger King near Miami airport and he's waiting for an important visitor. That man is local steakhouse owner, Jim macklemore. Edgerton wants macklemore to sell his steakhouse and become his business partner. Shortly after six pm. Macklemore? Enters the quiet insta- Burger King the bright overhead lights reflect off. Macklemore? Smooth shaven scalp Edgerton rushes over to greet him. Jim thanks for coming. Take a seat. I'll get you some food a minute later Edgerton brings over a tray of hamburgers fries and vanilla shakes as macklemore sinks his teeth into the burger and sucks up the shake Edgerton makes his pitch. I've got the insta- Burger King franchise for the whole of Miami. I put all my money into this one. But I wanna have them all over the city. The more locations, we have bigger this business will be that's why I want you to invest I'll give you half the business in return. Macklemore likes this idea. He's always wanted to run a chain of restaurants. I'm interested. But and great burger, by the way, I wanna see the accounts, you gotta profit and loss statement Edgerton looks sheepish. Not yet all the receipts in checks are in a peach basket in my office. But look, we're definitely in profit. I reckon twenty eight percent or so profit on sales impressive, but I want proper accounts. How about you take your peach basket to my accountant, he'll do the books, and then I can decide if you weeks later. Macklemore is back his accountant has gone through the receipts and invoices in the peach basket and rendered a verdict. Well, guess what? Dave, you're not making profits. You're losing money. A lot of money Edgerton looks at the floor. Oh, I guess you're not investing. Actually, I am going to invest you only been opened two months, and I believe in this business besides I'm good with numbers. And it sounds like you need help in that area. By late nineteen fifty five the pair of opened three more insta- burger kings in the Miami area. But business is bad. All four locations are losing money. Macklemore and Edgerton debts are mounting, and they can't figure out why people are shunning their self service drive ins. There's another problem too word is spreading fast of.

"So you have to have the app downloaded you have to be in proximity to McDonald's and at that point for a penny. You can order a Walker from Bergen. Yes. And then you drive to the bird local Burger King, and you pick it now you did this. I did this. And how did it work out it worked? Well, it was great. Yeah. Now have the app on your are. You a regular Burger King? You don't I wouldn't strike you strike me as somebody who goes to thing. I will say that. It's there's no question at Burger King makes the. Fast food burger, that's unquestionable. But I don't eat their question that that's that. That's not. No. But it's a factually true. It's really not you can't you can't. At least subjective statement. We have in and out burger here man, we have Carl's junior. It's I mean, I part of the problem with in and out is that their fries tastes like kind of Wimpy card thing. I will. I this is what I this is what I will admit is that between McDonald's and Burger King Burger King makes a far superior hamburger to to McDonald's. But anyway, so you went there. No problems. They do they gave you the burger and everything was cool. And how many times can you do this? It said you can only do it. Once I don't know if that means that you can only do it once per day, or you can only do it once over the course of the of the promotion, which is going until December twelve okay, I think that the local franchise we went to wasn't in the loop on it. So we place the order and we walked up and said, hey, we're doing that that that one cent Walker. He'll in the kind of looked at us like, okay. So you're saying that you just placed an order on the mobile app. Yeah. She's okay. I'll go get it. Yeah. They got gave it to us. But I thought it was a really brilliant way of of capitalizing on your competition to boost your own numbers. So what they what they've affectively done is. They've had they've made people. Go drive to McDonald's sitting in McDonald's parking lot order from Burger King. So they've effectively made McDonalds Burger King a remote Burger King location and then people drive away from Don. Well, it's it's more than that. So there's a few things that they've done in this promotion that I think are brilliant number one is that in order to get the deal you have to download the app. Yes. Now one of the things about downloading the app is that you have the ability to do push notifications on the app like anything else. And so things will pop up offers will pop up now, they're in your now, they're in your..
