Trent Grisham fans the flames of Dodgers-Padres rivalry after home run
"The dodgers manager Dave Roberts he complained that the padres didn't show Clayton Kershaw proper respect after hitting a big home run Trent Grisham hit the home run and he hit a home run in the sixth inning off Clayton Kershaw to tie the game. And he stared at down a little bit and. Dodgers Dave Roberts was not pleased. He said, I don't mind guys admiring a homer. Certainly, it's a big game big hit. Robert. Said after the game I really liked the player I just felt that to over kind of stay at home plate certainly against a guy like Clayton who's got the respect of everyone in the big leagues and what he's done in this game, I took exception to that because I think there's a certain respect that you give a guy like that if you homer against him. People I think then said, well, wait a minute the dodgers. Made. Member when they hit the home run off Madison Bumgarner didn't they turn it into a t shirt that they kind of. Sat there and. Admired their homerun. Kershaw himself had the right position. He I'm not gonNA worry about their team. Let him do what he wants.

"And so you know as short-lived as far as my enjoying my time on the field but Yeah it's a moment I'll never forget you. Did you get the baseball that was kind of before that became a regular routine of getting the baseball's yeah no? I I didn't get it I didn't get it Who KNOWS I I don't know it probably would stayed in the game. That's the way it was back then but I never thought about getting it either but you know Cherry Been Nice to have gotten it. What a store. You got Later on when you became manager of the Padres of course the the best player on your team at that time was Tony Gwynn. What's a story? You like to tell friends about Tony. Gwynn you know just beside you. Know is is his talent You know where he meant for me. in my purse. You're managing Tony night play together And so we became pretty. Good friends. We both live in power away. The you know at one point he. Fishing was his passion. That's that's one of mine and So we had done some bass fishing together and then we golfed and so you know we were so are pretty good. Friends played cards and so now. I'm become a manager NASLUND different. He's he's going to be one of my players But unfortunately Gino and we had that strike in ninety four and that carried in the ninety five which was my first year managing so my first year mansion. I've got replacement players and I am not comfortable doing this and Rainy Smith who hired me He helped me out and he said. Listen if you think. One of the coaches should do most of workouts You know you know. Let them do it. I get it because I didn't lose credibility Yeah with my players when this thing when that stripe is over so Tim flannery he picked me up there and he ran most of the spring training to be honest and and so when it ended Strike and we get the season going again. Tony was the one that you know really helped me. As far as saint just on the players less I know bocce. He knows the game. He knows what he's doing a help you know give me. Credibility as locker was right beside my office. Era The old Jack Murkier or qualcomm and And so you know. That's that's what I'll never forget 'cause I think there were at that time two or three players they they kinda cold for. You. 'cause you were supposedly working with these replacement players but You know he He really picked me up there. But you know there were times when we talked about As teammates yeah he. He'd go. He just knew what pitch he was going to get. He would tell you in the dugout. He's GonNa turn slider here and I'm GonNa do this with. He would do it. You know I'm GonNa hit that pie hole because you know he's GonNa he's GonNa keep throwing me away I it's just incredible at this guy could do with the bat and he made me think about him. Boches is that with all the batting titles You know that he won. It still felt like in the midst of his career. He got better because I think based on conversation you had with Ted Williams. He really learned to look for situations. Drive the ball. Oh no question and you're right it them that you know Ted. Call them out. Basically I still remember You know that evening John. Moores is house He had Ted Williams over and in fact had the first time he saw Mesa. I hear you like to fish. And he says What kind of flies are you Do you Tie The ted. I don't five if you don't fly fish but you don't fish in. I mean he just so intimidating and he was the same way with Tony about hitting and And he got on Tony about you know not hidden inside pitch and doing damage with. Because that's when you make your living you know you should be hitting the ball over to five. I five five whole Tony. You're great hitter and You know anybody can do that. But you know but you can hit the ball out of the park and you should start looking at drive that pitch and And it changed Tony and But it didn't take away his average either it just Tony Woods. He's just one of those players is great players. You know they just feel like they never have a ripe wonder it'd be better and that was Tony. He was so driven. Be The best hitter can be and he worked on that inside pitch to where became natural. They throw it in there. He he would turn on it and started hitting home runs and driving the ball and was a better hitter in And I you know he's probably looking back going. You know what it's like. What did done that earlier in my career probably would have three four three four hundred home runs. What do you remember about his relationship? Tony's relationship with Barry Bonds someone who you at the at the end of Berry's career you got to manage because it always. Those two guys had such a special relationship. It almost felt like a little bit. You know the way that you'd hear about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and it was that way exactly like that goes through is such a tremendous respect for each other. You know what they had accomplished into game in Completely different Hitters and completely different philosophy which amazes me You know 'cause I as I I managed bury my first year and Tony was the guy you know he. He really believed that. You know the bottom hand underneath not the KNOB leading the way and Berry Woods. He talked about a top in catching the ball. He Tickets Tom. Pan On the bad. Until I aims. Amazing I look into it a bit sitters in our era and And they had different philosophies and they were different type of hitters so that played a part in that but now they just always talked hitting always got together. Talk Baseball It was EMC two of the greatest that Tremendous respect like You know bird and magic and guys like that. Tony always love to tell the story about how during batting practice one day bonds came out while the padres are taken BP and and badges riding him about his bat which you referred to you know the PEA shooter because it was so small and he said very grabbed it out of his hands during one round and then proceeded to hit about eleven straight balls is of course bury a left-handed hitter into the left-field stands in and just flip the bat away like throwing a toothpick away. Amazing Amazing Guy. Wait what he could do. you know. There were times in Neo because he knew I had Tony in spring training. Goes you know I can be what Tony does you see pie hole and he would just hit ball after ball right there in that whole I remember one time. You gotta go go. Mvp was you know hidden and triples alley there in San Francisco and And he was complaining about how deep it is. They're very you're you're you're stupid evening doing that. Why why are you doing that? This what you want to do and Berry would take it and just flip it in the Senate over the trail. Nine downright till nine. So you know you're looking guy that's all time home run leader but also had just incredible back control. It things he could do with it and in back when he He tied the record I still remember he knew clay. Hensley was gonNA throw the ball away on those sinkers away. It was in San Diego and to BP that guy was thrown BP extra two day in and my ball had a little run to it as white throat because it would be similar to Clays and sure enough you know. He played zone terminent sinker. Way might take it out to the field and he did so. I wanted there a million Madison bumgarner stories Tell me your favorite one that you like to tell people about Madison. Where my favorite Well I am positive for a second. 'cause I can't tell my favorites bear hunting trip. I swear to secrecy on that. And hopefully he'll let me tell it when when day but On the baseball side my favorite of course two thousand fourteen and Incredible run that And that he had personally You know between the wildcard game and of course what he did in game seven but it was after game five. Just shut up the royals and I had switched it a little bit because I just felt like we had to go and Kansas City up against down a game so because I was taking some heat for not pitching them in Game. Four and then Starting game seven and but Abolhassan start game four against their fifth starter. I wanted mom. Garner Pitkin chills. Anyway short ends up He shuts out Shuts out the royals. And you. You know now. We're going to Kansas City where three to work game away from you. Know being a world series champions and and Guys are you know they're to pack. 'cause WE GOTTA GO TO KC GUMS in my office. He goes you know. I just WanNa tell you if you want to win this thing you're GonNa put me out there you're GonNa start me and it's a start you win. He goes after his day off. He met game six. It's I'm not starting one day's rest. He goes on to win this thing anyway. We're starting game sits six. We wouldn't say Save Them for game seven in the pen you know. He'd be the guy that we go to as a long guy in And I said WELL NEAL I. We haven't set you know. Set to pitch in game seven right now. It's Hudson and he and Hoodie. Were very close. They really became Not just good teammates but very good friends and he looked at me so now. Now you gotTa Start Hardy I. I want him to start his gang. But you have me ready. You want to win this thing. Of course you know what happened there. So it's as Just the guy that had his maniacal focus on winning the world series when he was going to hold back on its feelings no he pits twice as many innings more than twice as many innings than any other pitcher in that postseason on any team and yet I think he told me one point that after you guys win game seven It is one of the most amazing postseason in baseball history. He finally acknowledged that he was tired. Yeah yeah he owned to well. Of course everybody was because emotionally. You're tired mentally. I mean it's just you talking about every pitch every play on the line and And of course with him you know we. It's not like we gave cushioning pitching with one run lead and of course what happened in the ninth inning You know with the two hour triple when he still has to get one more out because I could see a warming up but I I all I remember when he came in after the seventy eighth inning. I wasn't a look at them because I didn't want to look me and say I am because he you know he was our horse in about so well but Yeah he he finally owned up to it. But you know what I I'll say to me. It's the greatest pitching performance and postseason Because you know it hasn't been that long since we've had had you know we've had two extra games a wildcard and an extra postseason games. No-one's pitch at pitches many endings. Jake peavy is a great storyteller and he told me a great story about Bumgarner new that I've never asked you about and I want to But I I want to check it. Check it out with you He said that the the reason why you want two thousand fourteen the world series. He said there was a moment in the dugout. You guys are playing the dodgers late in the season. He's losing his act cranky toodle one and his spot in the lineup is coming up in the eighth inning and according to Jake he said you know you go. You basically let them know you're going to pinch hit for him. And he's lobbying he wants to bat because he loves to hit. He's down Iran. It's a big game against the dodgers and you're saying this is according to Jake. You're saying I know I know and then Madison. After hearing that a couple of times goes you a talking to me like you know and then you let him hit that. Stake story what What do you remember about that close? I mean it was close You're probably embellish that just a hair but that's J. Cuts. You know what it was a situation where he was her best and I thought he He earned that right to hit. But originally I was not gonNa let him hit Because I want to look after them too. I mean it worked hard but he was one of our biggest threats and And that's what I I I remember that really Made up my mind but you know what this go bomb because he he deserved it and he was one of our best threats he was one of our best clutch hitters. I'm telling you this guy. When you need a big hit or even a homerun. Somehow he came through for you impact. I my kid all the time now because you know he's not not the hitter he was because he's trying to see how far but that time he he knew how to sit on the pitch and So anyway yeah he yeah he was. We're going back at it back at each other a little bit. But I had made up my mind a he's GonNa hit and I told rags out in I said he's GonNa hit but I'm GonNa have some fun with this. Tell me your favorite first time you laid eyes on Lintz come and whether or not it was there any party. You is You know somebody who's been in baseball longtime wondering if that was gonna work that unusual delivery well. I bus started first time. I saw two thousand seven which was my first year San Francisco. I still remember Spring training I mean it. Was you know a lot different You know because I had some years in San Diego. The giants were team that we had to be and that was after the first meeting. That you have with your team and So yeah I'm heading out to the field. I'm with Dave Righetti and And they've goes rags goes. Hey by the way there's your number one.
Diamondbacks' Madison Bumgarner secretly competes in rodeo events
"Arizona Diamondbacks left hander Madison Bumgarner has been competing in rodeo events under the alias Mason's Saunders and even one of twenty six thousand five hundred sixty dollars and a team roping competition in December according to a story published Sunday by the athletic Bumgardner was told I told the website that he has discreetly competed in rodeos for awhile including in March of last year two days before pitching for the San Francisco Giants in a cactus league spring training game he's been roping since he was fifteen or sixteen and said he's been added so long that quote it's just part of who you are he's the twenty fourteen World Series MVP if he agreed to an eighty five million dollar five year contract with the Diamondbacks this past December and I'm sorry Courtney if I was the diamond backs I wouldn't be thrilled to find out that my ace left hander yes competing in rodeos in the offseason this is the same guy who got injured on a dirt bike do not remember that when he was with the giants and that was a serious injury that put him out for a very long time no wonder he was performing I guess you want to call that under a pseudonym or a fake name because had you found out about this the Diamondbacks might not have spent eighty eighty five million dollar a gigantic sum over a five year contract on this guy I mean it doesn't make any sense like I understand the thrill of competition and this is who we is but these risky things every sport has stuff like this written into players contracts that you cannot do I mean I always go back to when it when he got hurt in San Francisco a few years ago do you remember the month Taylor's thing when he was with the warriors he fell off the scooter when he went back to Mississippi for the offseason S. lied about it yeah that was a story that came to mind and I feel like any time something like this it comes to the light I'm not one of these people is like all the cool funny look how cute of the story is I'm like what is he thinking like you get injured and made these you know these are animals eat these things have a mind of their own they're powerful they're strong and certainly he's you know well conditioned and knows how to be around horses but you know that to me is way too big of a risk if I'm a professional athlete you know the prime of my career to take but you know he's done it before and that he is you know we don't really get that much of outside having serious injuries at receiver big penalty from the team for you know the motorbike thing according to have the details how did he come up with the alias of Mason's Saunders instead of going with you know his own name Madison Bumgarner sell it this came from directly from the athletic article that broke the story said quote if you competed as Madison Bumgarner every phone camera in the area that would have been trained on him he said so he devised Mason Saunders the surname is the maiden name of his wife Allie Mason is a shortened version for Madison and it's something allegedly his wife called him out in public so people don't recognize them so very clever I'll give him that but I don't think the whole thing is a buzz saw her story totally bizarre and the other thing is you know if this was an NBA player everybody would recognize them already because NBA players are actually recognizable it just goes to show you how anonymous baseball players are that the most clutch postseason pitcher maybe of all time can compete in rodeos and nappy racket I think what I know it's wild lake in the in the fact is here like he continues to go what do these very risky things it just doesn't seem to care yeah if you get caught I mean there's the photo in that athletic article where he's smiling and you know he's with I guess that it's a two person thing that team roping so I hope twenty six thousand dollars I hope that Madison Bumgarner did not keep that for myself given the gigantic contract he just signed in December the but yeah he looks he's not there we is in this picture I mean I just think it's hilarious how almost incognito so many baseball players can live their lives in that matter just because they blend in because they're not these gigantic athletes by and large I mean they're not six eight or you know they don't think Shaquille o'neal out there everybody would be able to tell if you're you know for the most part with NBA athletes I just don't understand why when you have hit the genetic lottery anyway to be able to throw the ball a hundred miles an hour the end and to be able to make eighty six million dollars really it's more than that doing this why you would ever risk your body or put like what your fans in your organization is rooting for on the line so recklessly and you pointed out he already ruined the giants season aired my fantasy baseball season which is far more important Courtney by falling off of that dirt bike a couple years ago and here he is I guess he says I'm just going to live my life and Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen told the athletic that quote he was not going to get into discussing specific contract language but you pointed this out that we know the player contracts have I can't imagine that the Diamondbacks are cool with their ace pitcher also being a rodeo road being a cowboy literally let alone they don't want to be a Dallas cowboy let alone in being a literal cowboy well I just remember a couple years ago at the end I felt combine whistle and was talking to Mike Zimmer about you know the quarterback situation at that point he had said that Sam Bradford had a degenerative knee I come to find out later that offseason I was speaking with Kyle Rudolph who said that he went skiing with Sam Bradford that off season right around the time of the combine so I'm thinking to myself you are here you are a health concern and you're going skiing or you could very easily risk tearing your ACL for a third time and you already had your season cut short because of injury like I wonder if these guys just do it for the thrill or maybe they just don't care because they have ungodly amounts of money to begin with if they feel like they can the kind of invincible they can do whatever they want but you do wonder like this has to be in contract language if you cannot do things like this because we know across sports there's certain things you're just not able to do I it's a liability reasons you ever been to a rodeo Courtney I half I went Mississippi when I work down there the show but county fair rodeo I've been to the Cheyenne frontier days shout out if you're listening in Cheyenne Wyoming on the ESPN radio affiliate there I gotta tell you it's oddly it is oddly entertaining but the the thrill of it is almost that you think that the that the ball right is just going to charge and block these cowboys into next year it is one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen and I never in my life once thought you know what it be cool to jump in there with these bowls and try to try this on for for my but how do you even practice you know you kind of just have to get in there and and take it on right yeah I guess I guess so what I mean I've seen the photos of Madison Bumgarner I'd taken the horse around the warning track at AT&T park when he was still a giant I just think that that's who he is this is got this guy is a country bumpkin at heart from North Carolina and I I just think that he grew up this way and it's always gonna be a part of him so he feels like Hey I'm an able bodied individual and I also have more money than anybody at this rodeo thing I'm gonna do what I want and it's somebody else take issue with it I'm sure they actually would found out about it right now well look I know why it's so good in the clutch in game seven of the World Series because if that that's nothing compared to facing down the eyes of a bull
Not his first rodeo: Bumgarner admits to roping under alias
"Joe Hughes is here with the secret identity of a former giants yeah pitching is just what former giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner does for a living what he does for fun that's rodeo we see Madison Bumgarner riding a horse at oracle park will celebrating the giants twenty fourteen World Series title but on Sunday we learned in a report from the athletic that Bumgarner spent part of his offseason competing any team roping competition under the alias Mason Saunders it turns out it's been something that he's been doing for awhile and he's been using the nickname is a way of keeping his exploits from spilling on to the larger baseball community fearing blowback from his employers in Major League Baseball the bomber to confirmed in an interview on Sunday that he came up with the name Saunders from his wife's maiden name and Mason was simply a shortened version of Madison he sent a five year eighty five million dollar contract with the Dodgers the Diamondbacks this winter the rodeo competition came up while Bumgarner was still a free agent back in December but he's also reportedly competed in similar events in spring training including one well he was still with the giants last spring before playing against the ace he says he's not trained to split his time between rodeo in baseball but at least not under the name Mason Saunders
"bumgarner" Discussed on Giants Splash
"Podcast of two thousand twenty on Henry showman the giants beat reporter for the San Francisco. Chronicle my guest today is my counterpart with the Arizona Republic diamondbacks backbeat writer. Nick Bikoro we're GONNA talk about the bombshell two weeks ago. That Madison Bumgarner had signed a five year. Eighty five million dollar deal to pitch in the desert. The diamondbacks also signed one among owners catchers Stephen Vote. We'll talk about that too but without further ado we're GonNa Talk Bumgarner. Hi Nick having you here. And how goes it L. O.. There Henry. How's it going? Thanks for having me on. Oh my pleasure. I guess maybe when the season ended The last thing you expected to do sit in the press conference room at chase field and see the big fella up at the podium. I take it that this was kind of a bit of a surprise Yeah I would say so I mean. I don't think that that then backs had like a legitimate. You know top of the rotation arm you know after trading grant Qian July but it just felt like they had so many other areas to address the spending a significant amount of money on a guy like Madison Turner of was just kind of off the radar But I I guess I guess when you look at the at the particulars of it and you you know you look at the dollars an and who it is You can sort of see it making a little bit more sense. You know when especially as I'm sure we'll get into You know when you're talking about a guy as it seemed to really WANNA come here. Yeah and I mean up here in San Francisco. There's there's there's a lot of angst over this as you can imagine and a lot of people think the giants just You know if they think that the giants had natural what the diamondbacks had offered or even a piven a little bit more he would have stayed in San Francisco. And I don't know that that's true. I mean one of my Friends Carrie Crowley of the mark was actually at the press conference and he talked to Bumgarner On the side we got the distinct impression he got the distinct impression that Bumgarner was ready to leave. San Francisco did. Did you sense any of that as well. Yeah I didn't think he wanted to get into it too much. I I asked him a question during the press conference about the difficulty in leaving and I just kind of turned it into a you know a quick a quick thank you to the fans and and all that and then after he did make it clear that Arizona was his number one. Choice Voice So yeah I think I think he was ready to to turn the page you would I I would. I would be curious to hear what your thoughts are as to why I can come up with a lot of reasons. Obviously with a new front office in and approach on his way out and And obviously the the team is kind of you know out of big makeover. And what else does he have the proven San Francisco but but. I'm curious what what. Why do you think he was he? He was ready to move on. Well I think you touched on one part of it. I think that his loyalty is as much as he has some loyalty to the SF on the cat his main loyalty to is to one one of his best friends. Who was Bruce Bochy? Also Buster Posey and Posing has two years left on his deal. So if you're talking about a long term contract Posey you you know would be gone after a couple of years and I think also you know He. I think he wants to win. And I think even though the diamondbacks might not have been on the cusp of catching watching the dodgers The last Season or two. I think he feels that they at least have a better shot to win sooner than the giants do but I think the big thing might have been That even though he said he really didn't Fault the giants for never offering him an extension. I think he felt that they should have offered him an extension from that very very team. Friendly contract A long time ago. And you know keep the giants are pushing the notion that They were preparing to offer him. I'm one right when he got his motorcycle into his dirt. Bike accident Then they couldn't do it and then they tried to do it. They were thinking about doing it the next year then. He had his hand broken in the final spring training game. Then they couldn't do it and then twenty eighteen they had luxury tax Concerns And I think maybe bumgarner date they feel that was all excuses And I mean the giant. Certainly have the money certainly have the money to give a bumgarner more than eighty five million dollars over five years as especially given how how much they saved by Paying him just in fifty million sixty million dollar range over the I what what was ten years of his contract And I I think there probably are some hard feelings about that. I think it'll be very very interesting. The first time he faces the faces. The giants I take it. You'll want to work that night. Not Take it off. Yes I would. I would also like to see that very much. Yeah And we talking about the money. I mean five years and eighty five million. It's a seventeen million dollars average annual value At the winter meetings we had heard that he was looking for five at twenty at at one hundred million dollars. I always thought that was more the agent Sort of putting that out there and I'm wondering at the winter meetings Every beat writer has a time during the afternoon June where they go up and talk to the general manager and the the Front Office exacts about how today went did bump earners name ever even come up at those meetings Allow while we don't we don't really get I mean it did come up. We don't Mike isn't as important. So to speak very very candidly about about free agents on even even off the record type of setting I think we you know we. We did try to ask questions around it But but never really got anywhere but you know yeah the the five Avenida five I mean I I did feel like one sack wheeler got his money That probably drove bumgarner. The nine figure range And I figured that when it came to the diamondbacks that was going to price. them out. I I just I sort of felt like if you're the diamondbacks you're looking at it like hey if I can get this guy because he really wants to come here at a discount like let's let's go for it but But you know if if it's GonNa if if we're going to have to get into the nine figures you just saw how how costly and how difficult it can be to navigate a roster when you have you know a guy likes Who's WHO's being paid? A very very large chunk of of relatively mid market even small market size payroll. It's just it's just difficult. Probably not a thing. You WANNA walk yourself into if you're those guys so I don't know I mean Bumgarner did say You know he definitely left money on the table I don't know if if he left fifteen annoying on the table because he really wanted to come here that that I I don't feel like I mean I don't know very well at all but just listening to him talk and just kind of getting a sense for him a couple of weeks ago. I don't feel like money is the biggest driver for him And I think for the dioxide just it just worked out especially the way he was willing to structure it I don't know if you saw this. But he's his is going to be making six million dollars in drowsy. Twenty right and the other marine. Yeah now yeah deferring some of it and other numbers are going to be increasing over the last per- here's the deal which works out great for them because they've got a bunch of guys that are going to be getting free agency after next season and it just kind of it just kind of works out. So it's it's a it's a great move for them that you know they still have money to spend a try to be competitive this this year. Bumgarner if that's really a thing that he wants to be on a winning team You know that He. He's obviously doing what he can You know within reason to To allow that to happen Then yeah I again I I was. I was surprised at just about every step of the way that that this ended a happening. You and just For the listeners. I it's a five year. Eighty five million dollar contract with an average annual value of seventeen million. Like Nick says he's going to get six million million dollars this year. He's defraying some money so the present day value of the deal which is what the Union Uses to to actually peg the deal. I believe is somewhere around. Eighty one million dollars. He's he's actually going to do this with no interest so You know he must really like the horse facilities in Arizona. I'm wondering as anybody if you ever recall in. How many years have you've been on the beat now Twelve thirteen twelve third. Have you ever remember a free agent citing a place to park. His horses Quantity become to Arizona. I do remember Troy Gloss steering himself here because his wife With some kind of a question writer so you remember that I. I can't think of anything to this extent And I I. I'm curious to see what you know. What like what is he going to He? Obviously he's a he's a North Carolina Guy. That's that's home. I'm curious to see what what he does to make this home if he's GonNa if he's GonNa actually you know. Buy A place live out here a lot of the year bring a lot of his sources out even more than than you would spring mentioning on. I'm Tracy how how much she makes this place. Second Yeah I you know the the real estate prices are a little better down there than they are in San Francisco. Go Actually Matt. Canes wife is a I believe as an equestrian as well An Jeremy Affeldt so You know they should have ended up in in Arizona Arizona. I did want to ask one more thing About the money. You know How the diamondbacks view the back end of this deal I mean here's a guy. He's turning earning thirty Actually he would say he just turned. Yeah he just turned thirty so he's going to be about thirty three thirty four years old at the end of the deal And his his boss has declined. He's not exactly the pitcher he was during his glory days. Still pretty good. How did the diamondbacks of you? You know that fourth within fifth year in in terms of the investment that they're making what they think they might be able to get out of them..
"bumgarner" Discussed on You're Wrong... And Here's Why
"And welcome to this week's episode of you're wrong and here's why I'm Chris where we're joined by Greg. Crone Gregory Houria. Another beautiful weird snowy snowy night over here in beautiful Pennsylvania Chris Beautiful Pennsylvania. Yes so you guys get to now. All of a sudden as as I was driving home I noticed a small amount of flurries and then as the next hour to win along some winter squalls Chris and Snow Squalls Elsa coding my driveway currently. But I don't think it's supposed to do or last much longer. Driveway Lottie DA. I know right Mr Mr Rockefeller No let's that's exciting. I think you know I've said this innumerable times but I miss snow in theory in theory in theory. Keyword there all right well this week thought about why the Pelicans are GonNa Richard Zion Williamson the season while the bills are going to beat the Patriots this weekend and why Madison Bumgarner is the best value so far and free agency. Let's start off with the New Orleans Talibans and and one Zion Williamson Zion Williamson the number one selection in the nineteen NBA draft. And I I were. He gets hurt after a pretty impressive summer league I would say and all of a sudden. There's a six to eight weeks time line and at this time on just keeps getting pushed back and pushed back and pushed back and pushed back and we're now past eight weeks. Zaylon is still not cleared to actually take part in five one five staff or do any any significant court trills. Greg this is this is a story. I've seen play out before we've seen. Oh He's is going to be ready in a couple of weeks. Don't worry about it when our teams tanking and that just never comes. I will say I check this out and I was surprised to see over at Bethesda sportsbook. They're actually plus twenty five hundred not amongst the twenty five thousand skews me not even the worst teams is in the NBA but there is just not a chance in the world. The PELICANS are going to Risk Zion's long-term future or quite frankly their draft pick and twenty twenty by playing this guy this year. Well I mean the question. The PELICANS have to face. Is You know especially with the guys they got in that in that Lakers the deal that sent Anthony Davis over how Zion's going to Gel with some of these guys and and I think that you know obviously you don't WanNa push him back from an injury early but I could definitely Italy see a post all-star break bringing this guy back and just letting him get used to the game. We saw firsthand me and you a sixers fan saw this play Out Year after year after year and it took such a weird adjustment period for some of these guys that set out like Ben Simmons like Joel Embiid. I took a little bit longer for them to kind of get their feet under them at the NBA level now. Obviously Zion is an unbelievably athletic kid and a lot of explosiveness. This is part of his game and I think that that's something the pelicans definitely have to monitor coming back from something like this and you don't want to exacerbate exacerbate an injury and obviously their seasons essentially over I mean there what sixteen games under five hundred already to start the season. They've lost a ton of games in a row. I think it's double digits at this point. It's you know the the hunt for the playoffs is obviously over but with the way the NBA draft is waded. Now tanking doesn't work as much so getting this guy even a little bit of run not only for the team but also for the fan base. I mean this is a guy. This is the Mo what. Let's let's be honest. This is probably the most hyped number one overall pick since Lebron. If we're going to be we're going to be perfectly honest here Just from the amount of media coverage the amount of focus he went to Duke. There's just so much focus on this guy to to not to not put him out there for a couple of games just to get his feet wet at the NBA level. I think is unfair. I don't think the Pelicans give a damn about getting him. acclimated playing with Josh Heart and Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram and Jackson Hayes and derrick favors. Whoever it is they want to put out there? You'll notice that I didn't mention drew holiday or JJ rennick because if you're if you're listening to the scuttle bought of late it seems like both of them could potentially be on the block. Why did you leave us? Jj why did you do it only to get traded and take your power out of your own hands. They're concerned about Zion long-term and you talk about the weighted it'd lottery system There's just -cation to that I get where you're coming from but the point is it's still better to have a better chance. You know if I I understand. It's not as drastic a difference. It has been in the past with more flat and lottery odds but worse team still have a better chance. And that's all you can really ask for. You know. There was never a scenario where that number one team was. Actually even the favorite to get the number one pick. The field was always the favourite because that that odds were what twenty five percent twenty six percent back in a pre weighted lottery. You know there. There was never any guarantees. And we've seen plenty of teams tank only to get the second pick in the draft third. Pick in the draft now God could be fifth. Pick in the draft if you're if you're New York Knicks Fan with RJ Barrett. Going four last year that he was hardcore. Tanking this is I on. This is all about Zion. This is about his future and who you're going to pair them with if you can add the James Wise Men are and Anthony Edwards or something along those lines. I I don't know how much percents Lamelo ball would make as he would potentially be taking a spot from his older brother but added Edwards or a Weisman. Come back next year and see what you got. But you're not risk nothing. I mean the problem is we've gone back and forth about market size and things like that with the Pelicans specifically is you. You're the risk of losing fan interest because of something like this though. It's not like the city of Philadelphia where you have you know a much. Larger pool pulled draw from a long rich tradition of basketball. You know going way back to the early fifties you're talking about you're talking about a Pelicans franchise that is relatively brand new in the in the you know the grand scheme of the NBA and to not have a guy like this out there to not not give him to not give the fans at least an opportunity to see him is is a really really difficult decision for me to watch them make. I mean it's not like like they're dropping ticket prices because he's not out there. You know what I mean. Those season tickets that skyrocketed remember all the stories in the videos of the ticket. Team going crazy when when they landed the number one pick those ticket. Prices are staying the same in you risk a lot when it comes to renewals and things like that from from a business standpoint by not having the sky play. I understand that the season's essentially over but how many games his rookie Zion Williamson really going to win this team. This team has contracts as constructed. It is not very good. They have pieces they definitely do. I mean drew's obviously a perennial. All Star at this. Point is one of the best young point guard gets. He's not young anymore. It's twenty nine. But he still a very very very good player in this league. And you outside of that I mean you do like you said you you have. Jj whatever derrick favors again. Nothing Great Brandon. Ingram is easily the best player on the team currently I mean the questions going to become as what do fans have to watch. What this team? If it's not Si- On pill you get Zion over the next. At least four. Three seasons you get a healthy sign you talk about fan interest waning and you know temporarily that may be the case but who cares hairs because the very second that guy steps onto the court it all goes away and that's all anybody who's GonNa WanNa talk about again and this team is going to be a lot more interesting thing if Anthony Edwards playing playing shooting guard instead of Josh Heart or JJ radic or somebody like that and then you genuinely have that young core for you know. A wise men might be weird fit just because they draft Jackson. Hey so high last year but a guy like Edwards gives you a potentially you. It's really interesting. Young trio of of Edwards Zaylon and Brandon Ingram. And then. Then you're onto something then you're not just a team that's interesting to watch because it was I on your team that potentially if everyone matures correctly becomes the team to reckon within the NBA. And what why would you risk you. We I think the only way the fan interest goes away is if you put this guy back on the court. He's exciting for game and a half then he lands wrong. Re Fractures chooses foot. And we're back to square one. That's how you lose fan excitement. Sure but what are the question becomes as he's two hundred eighty five pounds. I think the odds yet. But it's not GonNa Change. It's GonNa Change from this year to next year. It's not like all of a sudden ions going to become a felt to forty like if anything he's GonNa continue to grow into his body and potentially get bigger. I mean we're talking about a twenty year old kid right here. I mean you watch guys transform as they enter into the NBA. A and what their bodies become. Let's talk about a guy like Joel embiid. For example you know they come into the league. They add that wait they get bigger. I don't see Zion on shrinking anytime soon. So you're talking about worrying about something that can happen at any point. It's this is the same reason why I disagreed. Continuously with the sixers and what they did did with managing the injuries of Ben Simmons and managing the injuries of Jalil Okeafor nerlens. Noel and I guess Jalil wasn't injured but nerlens was an and even Joel embiid like we did this thing where we baby them and did for what exactly. Well I would argue. NCUA the Ben Simmons thing and I will believe this to my. My last breath was not the Philadelphia. Seventy sixers decision but rather the decision of his management management and Ben Simmons because I think they care about marketing and they wanted him to be able to be rookie of the year out. It's also because he didn't shoot three pointers and he doesn't shoot and he's not a shooter in what are you talking. What are you talking about? He's I think he's too for three but either way. Well he's I think he's actually two for five on real threes real threes real threes. I just wish he's the best shooter. Benson's will not have perfectly fine. You're incorrect but I mean let's think about the teams in New Orleans around. I mean they're in the much tougher western conference. I don't think Zion brings them anywhere near getting outside of that bottom autumn five or bottom six you know world in when it comes to the draft lottery. I just don't the team's not good enough to go in night in night out and beat teams. They're not going to be better. They're just they're just not. It's just it's not going to hurt their draft stock as much and getting this guy out there and letting their fans and see what the future holds. I think carries more weight I don't agree with that. I think this is you tank and you worry about it next this year. Are you at all surprised you. I mentioned the the Plus Twenty five thousand Pravada but are you at all surprised to learn that to win the championship. That plus plus twenty five thousand goes for both the PELICANS and the Memphis. Oh sorry the Memphis..

San Francisco Giants closer to announcing a new manager
"Years does the talk about the giants the San Francisco Giants nothing York football giants were up right now on the Dallas Cowboys Monday Night Football but the San Francisco Giants made some news this week in Tony watch and will return to the bullpen and we've got to discuss what happens with a qualifying offers to Madison Bumgarner where the giants stand in free agency and we're already here in that that they're getting closer and closer to naming a manager oddly enough before they get a general manager so should tell you where the giants are try to get this
"Dozo with Sunday it baseball's Jessica and does and Jess Wow that game last night was insane that's the kind of name I got to tell you do the post-game work and you go back to the hotel and you're staring at the walls in the hotel room wide awake because you have so much his rental in and I was what about you because eventually I did go back to sleep but you had to get up like three hours later to get up this morning yeah it was up at five and then you write everything and I know now I have such an appreciation for writers because I like to give all of because I know that everyone that I'm working with this morning didn't watch the game and so I basically the right everything that I feel like we're the highlights of things I want to get into all the stuff I need them to look up graphics Oh that's put me up until one two in the morning and the I'm upset if I walk into work and getting ready to go so I'm a morning person it's been the nights that like that's why I'm so excited about this game six because I'll tell you what there's been a couple of games this world series where I'm like fighting sleep in the sixth seventh innings. I've only got a few hours this one I mean buster there were times I was jumping on my bed in my hotel room liking the TV Blake I'm sure my neighbors the hotel do not appreciate I'm like come on the world series game six you should be watching it was it was a nutty gate for the most part we'll put it this way in the first five games the world series there was one lead change last night we had two plus all the craziness for that game distinguish itself from the rest of the world series and I've got a laundry list of stuff to get tune we'll get into all of what happened last night but let's start with this I thought you know Dave Martinez what an emotional night like he goes absolutely nuts during the course of the game we're in the seventh inning stretch and he looked down the field and all of a sudden I see Dave Martinez being restrained by one of his coaches and he's going after the umpires he winds up getting a in our life by the Japan and their life go ahead the one who's restoring him he's gotTa winds up being rejected first manager in twenty three years to be objected from a world he's game and then after the game you get knuckleheads like me going in there and ask you know the right questions about how he felt in that moment and what did you think about the call I Dave Martinez handled it perfectly because he's like you know what I don't WanNa get any that I don't want to talk about that and he said it respectfully he said I I understand but you know what it's all about game seven in so many words and that's exactly what I thought he should have done in that moment considering what the outcome was there was no reason for him to relive all the details game unless they lose like I feel like and not that you want to relive it anyway and you WanNa take the high road but there was a moment there and this is for the people who weren't watching the game live but when you're watching it live during the entire time empires had the headsets on that that the showing trae Turner in the out just the emotions completely I mean honestly watching the broadcast they were bleeping out every other word was coming out of that dugout because it was so much emotion it felt like that something we're gonNA WE'RE GONNA be talking about this moment for years because in that moment it felt like the nationals are gonNA lose this game and this is why it's GonNa be because of this so I think Dave Martinez would have been a completely different person had anthony rendon day income and hit that home run I think then he would have been a lot more but when you win the game and it's like why go back in blow up that entire call a hundred percent and that's what I thought was really smart by him to not go back and relive that because they won the game and they force game seven and game seven will be started by Max Scherzer who chess on Sunday comes walking stiffly into the interview room in front of reporters he When he was answering questions he wasn't turning his neck he was sitting in his wheelchair and turning the whole swivel chair to talk to reporters and he was so down he gets a cortisone shot which pitchers talk about is being such essentially a miracle drug and then yesterday when we walk into the Ballpark here in Houston he's in catching the outfield and goes to Intel's Day Martinez I'm ready to go and you get the feeling that this could be something that could fire or at the players I asked David about that before the game yesterday about you know whether or not the players might rally around this any mentioned that time when Max fouled the ball off he was on face broke his nose and the next day Texan picture instead I'm good to go and he started that day with the black is Dave said that got the players fired up I gotta believe tonight there'll be so much adrenaline Max on the mound especially because I mean from that press conference buster and and for those of us that know him he was devastated Leanne devastated on Sunday that he could not help his team and I felt like it worked in the reverse like he could not hide the emotion of how much he felt like he was leading his team down and because of that and not because that's the sole reason they lost by any means at all but I felt like the team reacted to his devastation and not just him not pitching the overall vibe that he was giving like I feel awful that I can't pitch in game that I'm supposed to I think it works in the reverse for game seven because he is battled on everything he can the cortisone shot I think my only concern was shirt tonight is we've seen in his starts in this postseason him go one hundred ten and plus pitches how much length can't he give this team now the good thing is you know Daniel Hudson Sean deal those two pitchers you can use anybody pretty much out of the bullpen and there is more options for Dave Martinez out of the bullpen but what we've seen is they need length from these starters how much length can shares her bring your stuff was just flat from the get-go the guys more pitches than anybody in baseball this year over four thousand he just he just didn't have it and I think it was because he he's tired at the end of a long year and right that's the question about Max tonight on the other side we're GonNa see Zach ranking who's also looked tiredness postseason and I would assume that he's he followed by Garrett Cole I talked to Garyk before game six and asked him about how his ability with game seven was something he was handling because of the flight on the day last turn it had a similar situation where normally I would pen on day two but since we were flying I decided to it settled in DC and throw my pen on day three which for this week sets up pretty much the same exact way and I felt really good last week on day three so I'm just taking the same routine did last week to prepare for the bullpen as I'm doing this week to prepare for possibly having to pitch game seven yes I think he's GonNa wind up pitching like innings four through six tonight what do you think yeah I think so I think this is something that you definitely see and I think just for the royalva nats I mean to be able to get to that grinky you know the point that they want to be able to do they're going to have to do it early and once they do that knowing what is looming in the bullpen and that's one thing opposite of the nationals is the astros have so many guys that they can go to and Garrett Cole who has been the ultimate throw down the hammer are you know for the scene the one point I have to make with Garrett Cole and I know we've seen it so much but the last time he has pitched in relief you go back to his freshman year at us Cla I went and looked at this against the ant eaters gave up a winning run I mean this is like I know it's liked onion cheek like it's been how long since he was a little frothy with the Bruins this is something that I do think fans that now we've seen it time and time again from Randy Johnson no Madison Bumgarner these star pitchers come out of the bullpen it's not as easy is it looks folks he's talking about it being similar to bullpen game he's never done it really he's never done it as a professional he's never done it with the Astros this is something that I think you definitely look for especially early on if he's coming in mid inning what what is he doing where's his heart rate because it's definitely different than than coming in just as the starter all right let's dig into game six last night we'll start with this golf clap or Stephen Strasburg watching that last night just reminded me of how I felt during the two thousand fourteen postseason watching Madison bumgarner where he seemed so in control where even when there were runners on base pitching backwards coming back and counts by throwing off speed pitches he was just absolutely composed and in the end despite the fact that Max Sherzer got up at one point in the sixth inning there Stephen Strasburg still out on the mound in the ninth inning what a performance the fifth five no yeah this amazing to me again Jose Altuva and I remember in the moment I sent this note to our producer in the moment I was like I don't know what's GonNa Happen in this game but to me this is the stories this isn't even the game like that fifth inning at bat it to Jose Altuve to me was the series why I mean you have a pitcher or a hitter up to bat similar to the Anthony Rendon in the first inning where all you really gotta do is put the bomb play take one of those breaking balls fine whole get to the grass score some runs and respond and felt like to all the guys in that order that's what he does I mean that guy can hit anything and Stephen Strasburg you'll get three pitches he started on what the
"bumgarner" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"This strike out for Hamels and not be the goes back to the dugout so Madison Bumgarner is gonna come up intention for Tyler beating I suppose the if I believe got aboard the might of left be the up there the train they done a bunch yes because I think he already decided it's time to be was like a kitchen and more in this game and so I think you're right two different possibilities and with the bases empty use Bumgarner Madison Bumgarner has only a one thirty seven batting average but with a home run and he takes alone inside one one change up there from Cole Hamels Hamels kicks thrones and a big swing and miss through a cut or on the outside corner born in one strike no wind blowing at all at Wrigley Field right now it's not a big ballpark I'm gonna takes off the outside and a little bit low with the cutter June on the count at sixty eight pitches thrown by Hamel SO four so he's only that was about fifteen pitches per inning be the in four innings through ninety one pitches June one offering I'm gonna take so long with the change up three and one but I'm going to it has not necessarily translated into a lot of bass hits lately but it is last two or three starts he said outstanding advance now the three in one page kanban comes.
Bumgarner takes no-hit bid into sixth, Giants beat Phillies
"Well for a change we get to talk about a win for the services go giants they had started August in a real fog but they relied on Madison Bumgarner their big left in an AC took a no hit bid in the sixth inning one is fourth straight decision giants beat the Phillies five to nothing that snapped a four game losing streak Bumgarner only allowed one hit in seven innings and struck out three big night for rookie Mike yes strum ski a two run double a solo Homer Bruce but she was asked after the game if this is the kind of win the can maybe jump start the team once again well it should do a line and you know I said you know for us to break out of this is going to a good start in a big head when they're both on tonight we had a great started yeah is I mean it's huge it there that's what we've

Giants' trade deadline activity draws mixed reviews from fans
"Is giants Fan and she has really been through it in the last couple of weeks so we're GonNa talk a little bit about that Claire. Can you take take me where you were emotionally a month ago and where you are now a few days removed from the trade deadline. I know that's a big ask but I mean it was so easy busy at the start of the season to two giant fan because you knew what you were going to get you just going to have a terrible season that he was gonna be garbage just awful to watching it. At the trade deadline the best players would leave that Madison bumgarner would go play for another team and it was going to be awful. I wrote something for our emily preview. Have you got it like I was preparing to say goodbye I was. I was distraught but you know it had to happen. This is easy. Oh well that was the easy part and then suddenly it turned into July first and all of a sudden the giants remembered how to play baseball. They went sorry this down somewhere her in the first three weeks of July fourteen in three and the Games are fun had dominant pitching offense leading and comebacks extra inning heroics the name naming Madison of course phenomenal as always <hes> and suddenly it became a thing where Oh my God they can't Trade Madison. Listen bumgarner anybody because probably the giants are going to win the world series. I mean they're not they're not book probably <hes> <hes> so it just turned into this this kind of nightmare of <hes> I I was feeling then sad but then about the trade deadline <hes> until July and then suddenly I really did not want the team to trade Madison Bumgarner particular but also kind of knew that <hes> even with the team suddenly performing kind of well it was more than likely something of a fluke in which case they absolutely should bumgarner but anyway it's the journey so let's start there with Madison Bumgarner because there are other players obviously that other teams were interested in. I think the biggest rumor before this heading into the season and then it continued can you throughout was like closer will Smith <hes> and he ended up not moving either <hes> but I do want to start with bumgarner because he's kind of like the big ticket item for giants fans. Obviously he holds a very important place in all of Y'alls heart because of his postseason performance and just he's been kind of like the one consistent thing on that pitching staff since they've become in this generation of players so for you. What is your relationship to him? What was your relationship so the idea of maybe moving him and letting him go to a contender because I'm just going to say this plainly I guess the rest of Baseball Kinda hates him and reason so so when he's wearing your uniform arm and he's obviously brought to you a lot of these just elite moments of happiness? What is it like to watch the rest of baseball hope that he kind of fails and then did you want to keep him this time around at the trade deadline and y Yeah I mean the way I feel about Bumgarner <hes> I should stop calling in Madison?
Cashman: Yanks weren't close to deadline deals
"They will again they were dangling they just didn't get anything done interestingly enough it was that great he was pitching against the Yankees on Wednesday in the Bronx it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio so Brian Cashman the general manager of the yanks said they were attempting to make some deals most his reasons it didn't work out so certainly disappointed you'd like to have more if you could but I don't have any realistic chance the in my mind based on the dialogue to do so and so for the Yankees for Brian Cashman I think he's more tempered than what he and the Yankees have been in the past when it comes to deadlines they are less inclined I'm not saying they won't do if they're less inclined to mortgage the farm usually why the past anyway they've had a reputation for over buying and also over paying but now they like what they have though they certainly could have used another starter what they like what they have and they feel like even with the Astros in their pitching staff that they've got the bats to be able to match the again Cashman says they did look around they did try to make a deal but there are only so many teams that are selling we knew it was a fair market and it was obviously stiff competition even inside the American League for the services of say as aggregate of course the question then turn to what happens if you match up with the Astros in the playoffs play this season now we'll take care of our own business to put ourselves in a position to be one of those fourteen teams that play in October and then take our roster up against whoever in season or Texas hopefully we're in a position to be planned them in a meaningful game maybe you never know when you match up but you know obviously he's a really good pitcher and and helps their club certainly but we know Ingle beat anyone and that's you know nothing changes there so that Grady had to the Astros and if you care about this sort of thing the oddsmakers now place them along the favorites to win a world theory is you know what happens when the odds makers jump in and make predictions that actually happens when anybody makes a prediction the sports god laughing you'll face so what do you think baseball fans it's not Madison Bumgarner would shout what a bore me away but it is that grain key who should the American League previously remember he was with the Royals it seems like for every go that he was with the kids the Royals doesn't it wow so now he returns to the American League and he's already a lot of with him in a lot of experience but he's already now a guy who doesn't have to worry about pressure he is not to be number one guy he stepped into a rotation that wall is certainly can use him has the confidence and I believe me AL
Zack Greinke Traded to Houston Astros
"The MLB trade deadline has come and gone but not before giving us all major blockbuster this afternoon Zack great yeah of course the headliner over this trade deadline any winds up with the Houston Astros were gonna talk on a trade deadline here and the first hour of the show Bob Nightengale USA today sports going to join us in our number two and it wasn't just Zach cranky today there were other moves and it was it was looking all quiet it was looking like he was going to be an overall disappointment for the trade deadline in that Marcus Stroman the Trevor Bauer trade last night we're going to be it really besides some minor moves and it was four o'clock eastern but as we've come to find out the last few years we all based off of reports through Twitter and Twitter's great for following the MLB trade deadline with all the rumors and everything like that but it sometimes takes ten fifteen thirty minutes after the deadline before some of the bigger ones leak out and it happened once again because that's when the stack rank you trade came out this afternoon it was what around for ten four fifteen eastern time and that was one that was kept quiet for a while there was rumblings and Trevor Bauer link to this team or whatnot Zack Wheeler what about Madison Bumgarner and Bumgarner wheelers center guard they all stay put in their respective organizations in sac rank you with that contract at all that's on the move in the impact that it has is substantial heading into yes the month of October I know we're not even in August yeah that's tomorrow but in the October that's why all these moves are supposed to be about and certainly the move the
MLB trade deadline: Twins get reliever Sam Dyson from Giants
"Series today was the trading deadline at four o'clock eastern time that was the deadline and the giants have made some trades although Madison Bumgarner Will Smith still here but the three members of the giants bullpen have been traded today including Sam Dyson the right hander mark my Lanson a right hander and the left hander drew Pomeranz the giants acquired several players in in those trades and they also acquired in a separate deal scooter genet the veteran second baseman of the
Winners and losers of the 2019 MLB trade deadline
"We'll talk a little bit more about what happened with the trade last night so I'm too teams in the Cincinnati Reds and the the New York Mets who are not really in contention in their respective divisions either the the Cincinnati Reds a little bit better off I think in terms of whether or not they think they can make a push towards the playoffs now they're in fourth place eight games out of their division with both the brewers and the cubs sitting right in front of them of course are in the center the got the cardinals up there as well so three teams between them in the top right he Pittsburgh Pirates who were team that was in the mix and Josh fell on an absolute tear at the beginning of the season I had I had sort of put them back into contention made them feel like a maybe the pirates were involved that was the one division baseball we looked up and down you said I don't know who's gonna win this thing clearly the cubs are a favorite we got five teams here could come out and do some damage you take a look at the the wild card standings now the Reds not looking so hot there six and a half games out but they do have one of the best rotations in all of baseball specifically in all of the National League now they could be doing something here and they've got this they've got this general manager Nick crawled not Nick Kroll not the comedian not that the dude from from the fantasy football shows that show called blanking on the name of that show it we came here if you can remember the name of that show that was a fun one the on assets was it was like the it might be just pop on Intel to me did the league the league dude phenomenal show the league I blanked on management off there for a couple years Nick Kroll of course rocks in on the league Nick Kroll the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds thank you and I'll be back bright arsenic crawl was promoted from the president of baseball lobster like the admin assistant to the general manager a couple years back for the ranch it ever since he's taking over as GM of the Reds he's been competitive and I think that's all you can ask for from a general manager number last offseason when nobody was making trades nobody was signing players and he was out here we want to do one for mac camp yes you'll pull weeds Alex would he was out here saying we're going to be a competitive team went out to get Sonny gray from the New York Yankees so this is a guy who's been aggressive now I'm liking that because two of the players that were traded in two of the top line pitchers in Marcus Stroman and then introvert our that were treated because they both have a year of team control beyond this year they've set themselves up now to try to be competitive this offseason and be competitive in the next year and the Reds well we've got a deficiency in offense they were not going to get anything for Yasiel per week he was a free agent the end of this year he was gonna leave more than likely again I'll see what I said when they traded for him yes simply doesn't scream Cincinnati to me he's not a guy why I look and I think man that died that day both with the Cincinnati Reds role about now barely like plan there any like fighting for because if you miss this last night we've got plenty of audio for you on the other side the Reds in the pirates got into a brawl and this was in a a match Muncie Madison Bumgarner I'm gonna bark at you is around the bases type stuff all this was an actual brawl and the the irony in all this is the brawl goes down like within two or three minutes of us finding out the yes yep week has been moved from the Cincinnati Reds to the Cleveland Indians after not familiar with what the trade is the went down Trevor Bauer of the Indians one of their front line starters how the Indians by the way also feel like air and they're right in the middle of their division known as well sit behind the the minister twins but Cleveland Indians right now are two games up in at number one wild card spot if you go when you look at the division they still got a chance to go and win their division three back to the Minnesota Twins so they traded one of their best pitcher Jim Trevor Bauer with again a year of team control beyond this season but they feel like they're getting Danny Salazar back they also feel like they're getting Corey Kluber back who have been throwing on the side cells are may be activated as early as later this week so Indians feel like they've got reinforcements they also filled two major holes to major deficiencies in their line up and that's that they went out they got friend know ray is from the the of the San Diego Padres to was rumors that poppers were looking to move either him or hunter Renfroe I think if you look around for was more of a a better corner outfielder and you've got a talent friend arrays who's really a designated hitter I so he's I mean he's got a slot right into a DH spot there in Cleveland and the Indians also make a cross state trade the three team deal that sends Yasiel Puig now are to the to the Cleveland Indians so it is I think I won this deal you get friend rants redid young power hitting designated hitter who you're gonna put your line it probably for the next decade or so you would hope you got pulley gal who's got playoff experience Tuesday he fighter who's the guy who gets under other teams getting he's been plants a pretty damn good baseball of late and you give up Trevor Bauer Trevor Bauer now goes to the Cincinnati Reds sort of a weird deal there the pod reason have given up login what login Allen was a back in young starter for them and they give up friend raises we mention the Cincinnati Reds though this is a peculiar one they give up their number one prospect in their organization now he had a down season is in Taylor Trammell but they do believe this guy projects to be a major leader in the next couple years I don't think he's played beyond double eight people on the tax line already I too and I'd say in my head hurt trying to figure out what the hell the potters are thinking with that trade I'll tell you what I think the Padres are thinking with that trade I think the thinking they're not done they know was sent to guard this offseason may still be a trade piece that the that the New York Mets are looking to move maybe they'll be looking to move Marcus Stroman there will be moves made this offseason but now the Padres which are already pretty stacked minor league system have set themselves up to go out making other moves and out and bring some pieces in that will help them be a competitive team I'm all about teams were not totally in the mix yet who are not totally competitive yet setting themselves up for future seasons and I think that's what we're seeing with the Padres a little bit more clearly than what we see with both the Reds and the Mets the Reds and the Mets in acquiring the two front line starters that were available that we knew were available have kind of thrown this whole buyer seller thing
MLB trade deadline 2019: Latest rumors
"We are by the way one to mention to you guys there's a quick ESPN note about the baseball trade deadline that's come up into a lot of baseball today because we're treading water on a lot of these things we're waiting for the action to happen but this is your place this is your baseball trade deadline destination special trade deadline show tomorrow from two to four thirty PM eastern on ESPN I guess it kind of quiet right now no Syndergaard right there on the mound for the Mets tonight and are noted Mets fan Chris Mitchell said you know would be great and so mad if he was in the middle of a no hitter and they pulled him up to trade him yes that would be that would be very Mets we don't know what's gonna happen with the war also Jeff passin saying Trevor Bauer still in play and the Cleveland Indians according to rival executives seem motivated to move him soon also Madison Bumgarner remaining available according to sources so we'll keep an eye on all those guys all of course be keeping an eye on my cubs see if they do
Which teams most need to make a move by Wednesday afternoon?
"We are now heading into July thirtieth baseball's trade deadline coming up Wednesday afternoon the Mets are continuing to make moves Sunday they acquire Marcus Stroman when they were buyers Monday a bit of a sale as Jason Vargas goes from New York to the Phillies the Mets receiving minor league catcher in the deal as a result Phillies looking to boost their starting rotation decisions they'll need to be made by Wednesday afternoon ESPN insider Jeff passive you've got a lot of relief pitchers out there you've got a lot of infielders out their backup guys who may be able to help the big question is with the big names are the teams that are selling right now going to move off of these prices that have scared away teams that need starting pitchers and consequently are those teams that are looking at their rosters in August and September and October and seeing what they look like happy with where they are right now because where they are now on July thirty first two chief is where they're gonna be then in October when the games really count that's right so everyone wants prospects everyone wants to protect prospects alright let's start with us starting pitching the first domino falls with Marcus Stroman let's go to the best candidates are to be moved and where things stand as of now we start with Madison Bumgarner he's a free check free agent at the end of the year and he's on a team Gee that is eighteen in five this month and you know what I don't think I'll be sitting here two days before the trade deadline saying that Madison Bumgarner is going to be staying with the San Francisco Giants it's looking more and more the like that's going to be the case unless they're totally blown away I keep him what about Trevor bar while the trade him he's arbitration guy next year I he is and that's one of the reasons why blue gene he is going to make up for it eighteen to twenty million dollars next year the Indians are not a big market team they have a finite amount of pay roll and they understand Trevor Bauer is going to be leaving in free agency when he's done if you leverage him now and send him to a team that needs a pitcher for the playoffs because there's so few starting pitchers out there the unions can go out and get say a camerawork from Cincinnati and trade Bauer these for
MLB trades shake up teams nationwide
"Here the giants on the road and the question is will the same team the lead for the road trip to be together when they come back yeah you can say that about most teams with the trade deadline on Wednesday twelve noon our time most of the focus in the bay of course surrounding Madison Bumgarner seven innings yesterday in San Diego for hits want to struck out six got the win giants hung on to beat the Padres seven to six to take the series they've won nineteen of twenty four but they're still two and a half games back of both wild cards and one of the team's they're fighting for for a postseason berth in the wild card department is the Philadelphia Phillies they begin a three game series in Philly tomorrow night the yeas are still in that second wild card spot in the American League half came up on Tampa one ahead of Boston after rather six to five one a for Texas yesterday at the Coliseum they were in danger of a dropping three of four to the Rangers but rally for two in the bottom of the night the winning run on a one out bases loaded walk to Chris Davis this is a guy to hit a walk off Homer their place I think it was last year or so you got to kind of resist being that guy and maybe at three one baby chase to pitch trying to be a little too anxious but you know he sighed sought well enough to see was a ball in that situation that's as good as it heads because a Homer gives us a win so is a cute bat obviously Bob Melvin the ace hosting Milwaukee tomorrow night Mets of acquired all star right hander Marcus Stroman the Long Island native who grew up cheering for the match for two of new York's top pitching prospects to ninety six ERA fifth best in the National League a fifth best in the

"So let's play this sound from the Madison Bumgarner maximums the game because this is just great Madison. Bumgarner is the new guy texts. All the rule these replaced, Brian McCann Madison Bumgarner. I hadn't realized until I heard the clip today of him kind of defending his actions. Sounds like someone that would be talking to you about diabetes or selling you gold. Like that's his voice. Well, we're going to hear that voice in a second here you tell me this is wait on the surface. So seem like two different diabetes medication or well, no, it doesn't say the disease. It's not like you can have the disease and then you give it to people you dislike or whatever. No, it sounds like Percy would give if he could max Muncie, the disease that probably. So here's Madison Bumgarner. If you're not familiar with him, he had as epic, a run through postseason as any pitchers ever had mad bomb. And he is very serious about protecting sportsmanship. Couple postseason run sewn to short sell this. I believe he might be the greatest postseason pitcher modern era probably, and so mech Muncie. Hit a home run off him and just so visually. You understand what happens here. Muncie is running very slow at first base Bill, you saw this, right? Well, he didn't even hit it into the bay. He hit it into international waters. They went so far. Like it wasn't even close. This thing in close to six hundred feet, right? Yeah. I mean he hit an enormous minute six hundred feet would be the longest home run. It was it was, it was put on the polls homerun I've ever seen it on the poll at lebatardshow is six hundred feet, the longest home run ever some Muncie hits. But what's funny about it is he takes his we. Time. And Bumgarner chases him to first base and Muncie slows down. And just as come on a long if you wanna if you wanna run the basis, slowly with me, come on, along, which is brave because I would not want to be taunting mad bone. Yeah. He's a he's a bit of a lumberjack. I don't remember whether it was him or area to who we accused of definitely calling his son boy, but one of them would would live in a log cabin. Maybe both of them live in a log cabin and call their son boy, but here's Madison Bumgarner, you know, an exchange with reporters after max Muncie, hit the ball, an alleged six hundred feet..

"Dodger I've got no use for. However typically, captain max Muncie. Because that's one of the more epic Klatt Bax. I've heard in a long, long time. Bumgarner set Vince Kelly talked to slow. He was too folksy. The only thing that would have been funnier is of mixed Muncie and said to Madison Bumgarner a hope you're a better swimmer than your dirt bike rider because you're going to need to go out there and get that ball out of the water man. That's that was. I mean he got medicine Bumgarner twice because he absolutely smoke that bowl and you see how defenseless right field that oracle can be when it's hot and there's no wind because that thing landed at the buoy, which, that's, that's a Polk. Go fish out of the ocean, as Madison Bumgarner is doing his angry dog behind a fence barking at the mailman impression a man the dodger state, but max Muncie, a see you, bro. The only thing he could could've said was. Hey, yes. Remember when the Bumgarner thing was was at its apex? And hearing people say that the reason medicine Bumgarner Bumgarner, doesn't let, yes, you'll bleed is because of his skin color, and I'm like, no, no. He doesn't like anybody who he perceives to be just a little bit to pitch. When it comes to their home runs or how they get down and play a major league baseball. When Madison Bumgarner. The only color if he sees is red. Medicine. Not I think I'm pretty sure without knowing him. But I think Madison Bumgarner is misguided anger on the field. Do with skin color. It has everything to do with how he perceives your behavior to be in, you know, within the context of the moment. But did you know that? Hey pitchers get mad. If someone had something that's as old as time, it's fine, you could be. And it's pretty. But, but the the. Like what? What would he actually do if given the opportunity, that's always been my big question? Madison Bumgarner any pitcher. That is salty like that salty like the body of water that the ball was hit into what would he actually do if given the opportunity to do something? Yeah. The overdoing. Yeah. But the thing about Bumgarner that I liked, though is okay. He's gonna stare at a guy and this and that whatever, but you don't see him throwing dudes heads, what one hundred percent abs-. So he is never been that guy now. And we'll never be that guy to the best of my observation. So he always will get credit for that. But again, this is much do about nothing. And this is better than talking about the dodgers taking two out of three from the giants weekend. He didn't just stare at that. That, that whole Barkan and kind of him around, like come on, man. Like really, really. But that's who he is. And I found it was like, well, I got to let you know, the kids are going to do. They're going to do medicine. Bummer was twenty nine years old next month. He's twenty eight years old. So ain't nobody really kid in this situation. It's just one of those where he gets into get off my lawn territory. If someone hits one that's fine months. He said, no, I'm on your lawn. Matter of fact right now. I'm living rent-free in your dome piece by man go out to ocean Inc. Get it what, what should have done. Was he should've spent up sprinted then slow down a wall. Oh really mess with it. This this fast enough os, this slowdown fast. You let me know exactly what you want me to do. You know, maybe gone sideways like they do football karaoke. Crossover between second third. Mm-hmm. Pitching good. At least. Yeah. Which hopefully, increases, his trait value. Yeah. That's the I did like the, the Andrew Baguley, little anecdote Bumgarner through, and they went to New York any and his wife catch him. No, I didn't see that. Yes. So they go Baltimore New York. They got a day out everybody else's in NYC and everything. But Bumgarner got a routine. And so that was a day to throw. So he didn't want to bother any of the coaches. So we went out to, you know, and the Mets stadium is not near Manhattan. So that's a big hall, and he went out and through to his wife. She caught him. And then came back, the let me say this, I don't know, the ins and outs of the relationship between the Bumgarner, I am not surprised that MRs Bumgarner is a ride, or die chick. Yeah. But I mean that's still bocce som- coming back into the hotel like where the hell were you like oh, you know, it's my day to throw who you know Allie did. That's impressive. That's impressive. What bummed me out the diets of roll through eleven backup catcher? Couldn't find one of them. Hey, you know what if you don't learn anything from medicine? Bumgarner learned this fund woman that independent, maybe not even the pinch find a woman who's willing to catch for you. Yes. Relationship goals, right there. Hashtag relationship goals kids, find a woman that catch for you. Yeah, I approve that. So. It's fun every woman in your life, you keep the ball down. So, you know that's one of those deals where you go out. You go out on a date tonight this weekend. Whatever say, listen, if this get serious if I need to throw bullpen session. Can I count on you to catch for me? Yeah. Is she said, yes? Mary, that woman right now, now out of all the stupid things we have videos of everywhere in the world, we couldn't get video of that. Come on. Man. That's you know, Madison Bumgarner doesn't strike me as the type of person that would put that video up on Instagram and go relationship goals. I don't I don't know what gives me that idea that Bumgarner wouldn't be down with that type wasn't. She MRs Bumgarner wasn't she with him when he hurt himself in the dirt bike last year. I think she was, you know what I I'm, I'm not even gonna speculate because I don't want Bumgarner Matt. We're not saying anything spicy, I just. I quite frankly admire the relationship that's impressive. I wonder if, if it's one of those where when he fell and introduce yourself if she just wrote by on the bike. Just look at him and went show. The problem. No, ron. Oh, she didn't use that you catch a couple bullpens, far hav got that extra backup catcher summit. This is the part where people might through more catchers in one season. It's rough position. They've broken the record for the giants who in the state of transition right now. Bob, thanks have. It's all things have tune into kmby tomorrow morning, between seven and nine AM, Murph and MAC will be giving you the six hundred eighty dollar keyword of the day..

One two strikes to the Bumgarner nemesis. Keith Hernandez giants. Head one nothing to pitch ground. Ball foul. Third base side on this date may the first in what year? Did the giants play their very first game as a franchise. So this is like a an Asiya announcer trivia question. Yeah. Now. Yes, cking me or you asking just the audience. No, I'm asking you. Here's the pitch grounded foul Thurday sign down feline wanted to. So may I eighteen eighty three is the anniversary of the giant. Yes. And they wanted hers the birthday of the giant, I guess, and they beat they were known then as the New York Gotham great name. Which is against one of the reasons why we have the Gotham club here and oracle part. One on two strikes. Bumgarner wines, thrones fouled straight back to the screen.

Back reaches high over his head to get it and throws you out at first he gets Hizbut on. One pitch Shutout. Innings in the books for Bumgarner Madison Bumgarner finally got back on track obviously started the season on the DL with. A broken bone in his hands? Suffered was it his last spring? Training start a second. Last spring training I think it. Was this was his last spring training start broke camp that day Madison Bumgarner broken hand, that day vet indeed was a bummer but it was good to see him come back in and they fast tracked Madison Bumgarner rightfully so, why have a guy of his stature especially when the giants. Needed him as badly as the did why have that guy go through the typical as. Gotta make rehab starts that whole process that'll make rehab starts Against. Major league clubs in real time medicine Bumgarner he was searching believe the start we're highlighting was his fourth start back from the deal but. In the previous ones I. Mean, he was giving. You five or six innings. Which okay it's fine but. He was getting hit, around quite a bit but what's Madison. Bumgarner dial in against the Padres, on June twenty-first who that was a big sigh of relief by the way he. Backed that went up with the seven inning performance against Colorado in? His next start but. The line against the Padres or. You finally saw Madison Bumgarner get back to being Bumgarner it was a good one eight, strong innings three hits no runs only a couple of walks struck out eight and he was all around the strike zone tidy one hundred, pitch outing so Madison Bumgarner coming back hey that was great. But Madison Bumgarner being Madison Bumgarner you got your horse she got your age you got. Your Madison Bumgarner back To us at the top five moment and it is number five out of. The top two moments we believe here at Fitz and Brooks amalgamated industries to be the. Top ten most notable moments, of this first half of the giants twenty eighteen Cam, pain, Madison, Bumgarner last, outing six innings three hits one run so you, can tell that Madison Bumgarner is back to maybe not being as old self but he's taking the ball is. Eaten up innings and he's handling his business out there on the mound and that makes the San Francisco, Giants is significantly better team but that start from the deal with Madison Bumgarner got back to. "Love to have horses like bumgarner ensures her and and those type of guys on your staff going after giving you seven seven thirty eight innings and they can but you don't necessarily need to now that's not the game now it's about five six innings seven four the top quality guys you hope bumgarner is on his way to getting back to their but the giants as they've had for a long time have a bullpen you wanna use it the good news about last night and this is where madison bumgarner this is this is where an ace is doing an aces job the giants bullpen prior to last night i think had about two hundred seventy innings this season on them and that's way up there in the in the national league rankings madison bumgarner comes out last night and you could tell he didn't wanna come out when they finally start to shake hands madison going those h strong definitely east burton on the giants bullpen last night there's been doing a lot of the heavy lifting along with the offense so is bumgarner that that sign of good things to come with the giants are getting healthy guys they're getting guys need back like bumgarner and quite oh maybe he's coming back they get some guys who can give you six seven eight innings on a consistent basis takes the pressure off of the young starters that have been doing a good job but they can only give you five six or seven innings and maybe take as we creep closer towards the allstar break give the giants bullpen a bit of a rest because they as i mentioned well over two hundred fifty to sixty innings so far in this giants bullpen this season maybe give those guys a little rest so it was it was an interesting game last night just from a bumgarner standpoint he got his control going he was around the strike zone that was beneficial to him it was a nice quick tidy game you don't get those anymore but i don't think a lot of jobs fans would be out of their minds if you think oh you get bumgarner back you'd other guys back maybe this pitcher to go along with this offense that is definitely serviceable enough and what brandon belt said who again we appreciate joining us on yesterday's show check it out if you missed it fits brooks podcast dot.

"You know amazing how how things changed so fast funny gray pitches great the diamondbacks lose ten out of eleven now all of a sudden everybody that was talking about madison bumgarner or clayton kershaw the giants are to back the dodgers actually the games they're five dak you know it's it's just amazing how quite fascinating shape and by the way with both of those franchises i'll believe it when i you know with the yankees in nineteen let's see in two thousand eight with the yankees have ever considered trading derrick jeeter no so i mean i'll believe when the dodgers trip trae kershaw believe it or even bumgarner for that matter why take i think that the fact that very very very fair question when it comes to what they would do with these guys i think kershaw is a major concern now with the health issues this is the third straight year now he spent on the dl he's getting a little bit older he has a lot of innings on his arm but if you're the dodgers does all that matter the have to find a way if he opts out to keep them long term and with bumgarner i'm not as concerned about bumgarner because the two injuries have been so fluky one he falls off a dirt bike and the other he gets hit by a line drive and he's still relatively young and if anything as weird as this may sound these injuries may have benefited him in that it's keeping the mileage off of that left arm think about the three points a fair point but this is a guy that won three world championships three with the giants he is right now statistically the greatest world series pitcher of all time that's what he is statistically would they have the guts even if they're a bad team even if they are concerned about locking them up longterm with they have the guts to trade him so i think steve brings up a very good point that kershaw and bumgarner based on what they mean to those franchises maybe completely untradable from that standpoint let's go to gary in the bronx gary our you

"Here's the problem with not having one of the problems anyway with not having madison bumgarner is for all the obvious reasons he's your best pitcher and he helps you in games but you're ace madison bumgarner is a losing streak stopper giants lose two games in a row to the dodgers to finish out that opening series it would be nice if you have bumgarner lists amanda that that was that was the freaky est of all freak accidents last spring training start he's protecting himself as any normal human being you can do about that you know what happens but if bumgarner had not gotten hurt you lose two games to the dodgers you got king felix on the horizon this afternoon at at and t part it'd be nice if you had your ace to keep you in a ballgame and that's what that's part of his job is i'm gonna go out there i'm gonna throw zeros and on at least keep the the the game tight to wear the offense which for the giants is it's it's still in its slumber stages i'm gonna keep going zeros until you guys offensively do enough to get this thing going tie block did that an opening day and that was great but where you really need it and you missed bumgarner yesterday is tie block never gave him never gave the giants a chance to win he absolutely did not give the giants a chance to win and it's not a slam on him i mean it's just it's just part of the deal but for two third ten hit six runs all of them earn don't eighty six pitches that's not giving a giants team that has offensively challenged at this very early point in the season that's not giving them a chance to win great that they were able to scratch out some runs make a competitive and had guys on base man if it would bene a a home run in their arsenal the giants might have gotten themselves if not extra innings at least the possibility of a win but when you have bumgarner you know bumgarner is not going to go out there and give up ten hits six runs in four and a third he's gonna throw zeros and give that offense a chance to.

"Greetings everybody welcome back to the morning lineup podcast today is saturday march twenty four th two thousand eighteen i'm anthony castro vince joined as always by richard justice richard worth that point of the spring where teams are just holding their breath and saying please can we just get through these last few days on scathed if you've been fortunate enough to get this far without major injury you're pretty fortunate quite frankly and you know that can change in a moment's notice and we learned that on friday san francisco giants lost madison bumgarner to a fractured left hand he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of whitmire field in a game against the royals and reports are he could miss upwards of six to eight weeks with this injury richards just you know kind of play off his name just an absolute bummer you know they lost bumgarner for extended period last year with a shoulder injury and a dirt bike accident so much of the giants twenty eighteen prospects revolve around the health of at the health and bounce back hr of guys like bumgarner and just the margin both of those guys out with injuries this week so marga with a a strange right pectoral muscle although keep him out for several weeks and now the bigger blow which is mass bummer bumgarner out for an extended period of time you know no way to sugarcoat it the reason you push forward is the giants the reason you didn't hear a word about rebuilding from the giants this year's you've got bumgarner and you've got posey at the height of the the the prime years of their career you're going forward you're not going back and the idea that now for a second straight year this would happen you know just to set the stage this guy in two thousand fourteen had one of the great postseasons any of us has ever seen last six seasons ninety three six seasons before last year he averaged two hundred thirteen innings a whip of one ninety three and sixty one so what you know so now you lose him for he says he said today i hope to pitch before the all star break the you're gonna lose some marsha.

"But everything else in this man's trophy case and everything else on the back of his baseball card tells you unequivocally he is the bucket ban any has been so since he showed up all right let's just let's end this conversation now if we are starting a staff tomorrow and this is guys that have had success throughout the state throughout this we're starting the staff tomorrow you started with clinton kershaw and you work from there if you were starting a pitching staff to only pitch in the post season you start dot pitching staff with madison bumgarner that is an unequivocal answer so if we're starting the regular season and we're getting our organization off on the right foot it's a guy like clinton kershaw hands down the opportunity to get to the postseason as we've seen will present themselves he will hopefully eventually get over that home i mean he he has it been absolutely atrocious to the point where you just completely ignore clean kershaw has the best picture on the planet because of his postseason work yeah now i it's it's maddening to me that there are some people out there i mean dave portnoy let's just fucking namedrop the guy dave portnoy while shit on clayton kershaw any chance that he can and i get it in a it's it's i it for what clinton kershaw is during the regular season he should be much much better in the postseason um but i still stick to my case that he's not a bomb.

"Me for a few minutes he's been doing a great job covering the giants for the website team won four out of five took two out of three from the defending champs play a little bit better baseball lately care and it seems like you know since the pressure's off a little bit obviously they're not in the race but it's just about getting back to doing things the right way the giant way the way that made this franchise so successful what are you seeing from the team early i mean you said it the way they won means games to past four four out five it's been starting pitching will defense has been it in the baseball the giants dan's are accustomed to seeing when they were successful in two thousand ten and two thousand twelve the 2014 they wrote on the shoulders of pitchers like madison bumgarner matt cain kimmel unscom and this week they wrote on the shoulders of bumgarner tie blocking jeff's the market and that's what got a jump to this ballclub yeah and it speaking of madison bumgarner it has got a lot of run support this year obviously had the the dirtbike accident earlier in the year but it looks like there's no illeffects from that i mean in that's one positive you can take away from the rest of this year is that madison bumgarner looks like the madison bumgarner that we know and love the it was it was kind of whole area today after the game you know this is his third straight start of seven ending with an interest shut down get another playoff team today in the chicago cubs and after the game he's asked about the help the shoulder on three separate occasions reporters are kushner i'm on it and he finally laugh laugh and so i'll keep answering your questions but you're gonna get the same answer and you look at what he's done on the field against at the dodge first first innings is shut out all and seven innings a to unball against the feedback loop what he did today against the cub just mowing grew that lineup so impressive in what he's done to is coming back on the disabled list in his no nonsense snow bs style that's always resonated with me i mean it's easy to appreciate ah guided can do.
