"No, but Jeff, he's the personification of what I think is happening to this sport where everybody throws a hundred miles an hour and everybody strikes out. So what are we doing? He's the king of the three true outcomes. And correct. And. Every team's got one. That's what I'm saying. No, every team's got 5 of them. Right. Baseball turning into that sport. I think that there are going to be elements that are both natural and enforced that right that. And one thing I'm super interested to see come into play. It's not guaranteed yet, but is the pitch clock, because baseball, baseball's criticisms, particularly among the younger generation. It's slow. It's too long. There's a pitch clock in the minor leagues this year, rich. It's 14 seconds when there's nobody on base and 18 or 19 depending on the level when someone is on base. The average game time in the minor leagues is down 25 minutes this year while scoring and hitting our about stagnant and equal and stolen bases are higher because they've limited the number of pick off moves before a pitcher is called for a box. So guys are running a lot more. Getting action back into the game, getting pace back into the game and knowing that you're not going to be going to the ballpark for a three and a half hour nightmare that's going to get you home so far past your kids bedtime. It makes you not want to go. That's a good thing. And as much as I understand the people who say baseball is a game played without a clock. And as a luring as that is a long time baseball fans, to me, the benefits there are enormous and the reality is adapter die. Like that is what we do as human beings and that's what baseball needs to do is westward once for instance. Make sure change the defensive rules. They changed them in their psychology. That's too much that's benefits the offense. There's not enough that benefits the offense in baseball right now. Not even close to it, because the pictures are pretty smartly. Not the ball, not the arms of pictures. And then, you know, before I let you go, Jeff, you're not aware because we're on the wall. I've been holding your hand and staring at you this entire time. And that's my that's the bolino in me. And what? What came of that and what can baseball do? About something like that. That would be beyond a 200 and he stated that he basically said nothing after the game, and then just days later put out a statement talking about how he should umpire like his kids are in a strangely apologized. But still nothing about why he did that. But Madison baumgartner had been chirping at the umpire who was behind the plate that night. And Dan bolino is somebody who likes to stand up for the integrity of umpires because they are quite frankly under attack all the time, like they are. Now that's part of the part of the job, part of the hazard of the job. And they are very nicely compensated and have great lives and jobs because of it, but Madison Bumgarner has a reputation as somebody who speaks back to umpires and bolino took it too far and it was it was wrong and I think he was reprimanded for it, but this constant thing between players and umpires. I was looking that day, rich. At the first instances of umpires being razzed by fans. And the history of umpires is interesting. At first they were looked at as, oh my God, it's wonderful to have them around. They're such paragons of virtue and great character within 5 years umpires were hated. And this was back in the 1870s. So we've been hating on umpires for a 150 years now and nothing has changed. You want to talk about part of the game? Despising umpires is part of baseball that pretty much everyone can agree upon. And it keeps the world turning, right? And then you know what? If you want to stare into my eyes and hold my hand, you can do it anytime you'd like. It doesn't get mad though. That's very well. I appreciate that, Jeff. Now she understands. That sounded like that scene in Forrest Gump, where we looked back generations of lieutenant Dan's family members. One after another after another who passed away in war, and I feel that now it's just like Joe west's great great grandfather was hated on by old Ross had burns kid. Makes me feel.

"Upward that he's a better manager in 2022 than before because of buck showalter. Because buck showalter's managing the mets is such a high level that booty now has to be better and Taylor would you agree with me that it was an absolute guttural laugh from Boney? Yes. And the way he phrased it, he had his own words to describe it, which I thought was very funny, so he is very aware of how this is all being portrayed. Yeah, and he has the ultimate respect for buck, by the way, who I, you know, he's doing a terrific job, whether you want to give him some credit, which is where I am because I think the most important credit in that organization is getting Max Scherzer and Eduardo Escobar. But I think you give a buck show alternate credit because of the change in the culture. And because he's in charge, right? There's no doubt about the pecking order. Yeah, and I talked to a bunch of mets this spring about buck and I got a lot of head shakes. Like, we've never met anybody quite like him. Jeff McNeil said, he's very curious, which is always been my term for buck. He's always asking questions. What about this? What about that? Why do you do this? Why do you do that? They have recognized right away how good buck is. And yet, I have the same guttural laugh that now Aaron Boone is saying, boy, I have to be even better as a manager does bucks really good. You've got to be kidding me. Come on. He's not managing any better or any worse his players are playing better. He's not a better manager. He just was he's the same he's always been, which is good. Oh gosh, what we do in talk radio is hilarious. Yep. A 100%, it is a lot of fun. And again, I want to reinforce Boone was not at all down to Hollywood buck as accomplished. He just sort of the absurdity of what idiots like me and you do, right? For a living. Carlos Correa last night, the twins announced that it's a possible fracture of his middle finger, Tim wanted team announces that I assume it's a broken middle finger. How big of a deal is this? Well, it's a huge deal, whether it's broken or not. You mess with an infielder's hands, a middle infielder's hands, and you're asking for trouble. So yes, my guess is there's a fracture there. Otherwise, they wouldn't have brought it up. And I'm always amused buster when they say, great, it's not a fracture. He's okay. He's not going to be okay. It's going to be sore, it's going to hurt, it's going to affect him. Adam Jones told me years ago that he fractured his wrist or something like that. And he said, it hurt for a year and a half. Every time he swung the bat, it hurt. And it's going to hurt when it's a finger and you're playing a skill sport and you're playing a middle infield in a skill sport. This is bad news for the twins because he's such a good player until at least recently they played so exceptionally well and they just can't afford to lose him for any extended period of time. All right, I want to ask you about something that happened right after we got done taping the podcast on Wednesday. I was watching this game live when this happened. Madison Bumgarner pitching for the Diamondbacks against the Marlins gives up a home run, he was upset with a call ball strike calls by the home plate umpire and he was coming off the field and Dan Berliner, the first base umpire, checked his hand for foreign substance. This is what happened. Here you see bellino not even looking down at his hands. Most of ours come out, they check your hands. You see them right there. He's just waiting. He keeps waiting looking for Bumgarner to look up and then when they make that eye contact. And bombarded is not making eye contact. And when Bumgarner says you're still on my hand and you're staring at me. So now I gotta say something. Yeah, that was Luis Gonzalez part of the Diamondbacks television network. Baumgarner was having his hand checked by bellino, who kept on rubbing his pitching hand and looking him right now. He wasn't even looking at his hand. Bumgarner initially was not looking at bolino and then he looked up like, why are you taking so long? You know, what's the problem, then he dropped an F bomb, then bellino immediately ejected him what that happened. Baumgartner went crazy. The Diamondbacks dug out one crazy. Here was Bumgarner after.

"And this suggests that perhaps the tactile is the most important part. So anyway, Madison Bumgarner got mad about something hardly the first time a mad bum indeed, but it was sort of illuminating to me that I perhaps had a failed expectation or I was misapprehended how this would go. And so you've learned about it, but if you were me, I wouldn't recommend getting tossed in the first after the first inning of your game. That seems like it's not the best. And he said that in his comments after that he kind of put his guys in a hole and the deep rallied to beat the Marlins. So yeah, maybe he fired him up. Yeah. Bumgarner, he's throwing about 91 these days. So he's not handling anything all that explosive at this point in his career. But I guess on the inside, at least I don't know, maybe not just that he wants to look you in the eyes and take your measure as a man. Can you meet my gaze here? Can you look me in the eye and tell me that you're not using sticky stuff right now? But I would imagine that there's some history here, maybe some recent history here. But it is true that on the whole, there was that freak out for a day or two when they first started doing the sticky stuff inspection last year where it was like, oh, this is a farce and baseball will never be the same. Surgery or Romo took off his pants or started to. Right. And various people were upset. And then everyone got used to it. And maybe the enforcement got lax, which I guess is just a lesson that applies not only in baseball, but everywhere, like, any precaution you take, people will find a way around it, or the enforcement, the standards will slip, and that's why they are feeling each other's hands at this point, right? This was a corrective measure put in place to do away with those cursory perfunctory pro forma type of checks and now maybe this type of check has devolved into basically the same thing. So there will have to be another step another layer that is in post here. But that's really the whole thing, right? I mean, that's like when they try to impose piece of play restrictions and everyone cracks down for a season or part of a season and oh we just saved some time and then people stop enforcing it and people stop paying attention to it and lo and behold, game times go up again. And so you need to have something that there is no way to get around an actual clock that counts down, let's say, not that there aren't ways potentially to game that too, but you can't have a human there who's just going to say, oh, I don't want it the confrontation. I don't want the pain of doing this right now. I'll just let it slide. Yep. But we did get another veteran player who I think had a healthy reaction, maybe, to being questioned about something, which was Joey Votto, right? Joey Votto. Social media star. Not performing on the field, as he would like to the season or as anyone would like him to, but fang grafts published a post on Wednesday by one dense and borsky about whether we should worry about fado, is this the end for Joey Votto, the headline was. And Dan went through some disturbing some concerning stats in there, not just not just about the surface performance, but about how hard watto is or is not hitting the ball these days, and which pitches he is swinging at, and so forth, and Dan, much to his dismay, and regret came to the conclusion that he wasn't really feeling a Joey Votto bounce back based on what we've seen so far. But Joey Votto, P quote tweeted his extremely online these days. And I'm sure there are probably people out there saying, oh, he's on every social media. No wonder he's in a slump now. And I don't know that we would recommend being on Twitter, but I'm sure there's no correlation there. Anyway, he tweeted out the article and he said, 5 months to go, enjoy the show. Now shortly after that, he was placed on the COVID IL, unfortunately, so the show will have to wait a little longer, but that was a good response, I think, right? Yeah. I'll say, Ben, he didn't just quote tweet the article. He tweeted a link which suggests to me that he visited fangraphs dot com. I'm sure he does regularly. Yeah, and we've heard that from him before. And I just want to say, Joey, if you are out there and you happen to be a listener of the show, if you want to tweet all of our articles, that would be fine. I wouldn't object. I'd hold myself back from objecting, you wouldn't have to hold me back at all. Yeah, I think that I have so much sympathy for how strange it must be to have random people on the Internet like constantly appraising your performance at work, you know? Like accountants don't have to deal with that. I guess maybe they're real reviews, but they're not. Get audited. Yeah, they're not sitting there every day. You know, if you're the ice cream scooper at an ice cream shop, you know, you're probably not getting your performance reviewed every day. Gauging the efficiency of your scoop or the similarity of the scoops you sir. We're just eating our ice cream. So I try to keep in mind how I would feel if someone were constantly evaluating my performance at work on the Internet, which just happened from time to time, but it doesn't happen with a great deal of regularity, and it can feel kind of icky, even and perhaps especially if someone is right about something. And so when players get worked up about something they see at the site, I don't do this perfectly granted, but I try to take it in stride because I'd feel uncomfortable if someone were talking about me on the Internet and I have in the past. So I really admire people who can kind of take it in stride and are able to acknowledge that it exists without getting defensive about it or snippy at the person writing it. I mean, I'm sure it helped that Dan just seems devastated this entire post at what he was finding. This is not a gleeful excavation of the stats on his part, and so I'm sure that that probably greased the wheels for this particular reaction from vodka but yeah, he was very gracious. He's an interesting guy and one who I am thrilled to learn reads the site and I hope that we can in the future talk about the great turnaround that he exhibited as the season progressed. So it would hardly be the first time that he had turned around to see it in midstream and I won't go into all of the analysis and did or my own which would be inferior to his, but I am certainly surprised that he has started to cease in this way and that the reds as a whole have, not that I expected them to be good after the off season they had, but then it is. It's been ugly. Really quite grim, shall we spend a moment on this? Because, you know, we've talked several times in the last couple of weeks about how we're not really paying attention to the standings yet, and we check in every now and again, but it's not really our focus. Oh man, so Cincinnati is last in baseball by WRC plus. 68 team WRC plus you listeners will be unsurprised that they trail the league in war offensive war..

"So kristen eck. We've got to start the story in january of this year at dan campbell's introductory press conference. I wanted this job bad. Because i felt like i knew this community i played here all right on. Everything's seemingly normal and then things get a bit more interesting. I can sit up here and give you coach. Speak all day long. I can give you You know. Hey we're gonna win this many game. I can't that none of that matters in you. Guys don't want to hear it anyway. You've had enough of that shit. So excuse my language then. He drops his magnum opus. So this is going to be built on. We're gonna kick you in the teeth all right and when you punch us back. We're going to smile at you and when you knock us down we're going to get up and on the way up we're going to buy to kneecap off all right and we're going to stand up and then it's going to take two more shots you cover the team for the athletic. What was your reaction to this. I mean i think like everyone else. I was sort of just in shock for a few minutes. Just trying to figure out where he was going with everything but as we'll talk about. I'm sure that was very much dan campbell. I think the people who know him weren't all that surprised to hear that speech from him. It was funny to hear you know brad. Homes in new. General manager was introduced at the same time and he said several times since. I'm glad i got to go first. Because i don't think i could follow that up but i i think that that's you know that's what you get from dan campbell and i think that's what they wanted from dan campbell. They wanted some energy and some authenticity. And i think the fan base really responded to it. I don't know how the players necessarily took it or people in the general public but for this particular fan base. I think it went over pretty well. Neko ear thoughts when you heard it a big pro wrestling fan l. admission here and that's what that was a professional wrestling promo is having talked to him since talking all these guys for the story like he didn't planet it wasn't scripted. It was something that he said and you can kind of tell because he when he said the kneecaps thing he did it like exclaim it he just sort of set it like the most nonchalantly normal way is like to. We're going to play when your kneecaps off. And then he just kept going to the next point. It's like this is just what this guy. This is off the cuff. You could kind tell. And i think that there was a lot of authenticity with that

Guys are man so buster. The dodgers clinched their ninth street playoff spot with a win last night. How important is it for them to actually win the division though with these surprising giants well. It's it's absolutely huge. The funny thing was about nine days ago. We had the dodgers and giants sunday night. Baseball and i asked that very question of neighbors. The dodgers manager any kind of blinked looked at me and he goes. You know what it's too out. I haven't even given a thought right. He's still in the moment of the regular season. But you know now down the stretch with less than three weeks ago it's going to become a focal point because we've seen time and again how great players can be derailed. By that wildcard game. There were a couple of years Seven eight years ago when it looked like at the end of the regular season the pittsburgh pirates were the best team in the national league but they had to go through wildcard game and it back to back years they face madison bumgarner to the beginning of the greatest postseason run. Madison bumgarner is just thirty. Two years old shocked. That's not true. That can't be true. That simply can't be true and he just turned thirty two. Oh my this month. Each row suzuki miami marlin for a couple of years was going to get his three thousand hit. I feel like this is a story. People are sick of your. But i'm trying to catch up the audience and i bought this package that i could watch each suzuki get his three thousand hit and when every day for what felt like six years to watch each year will get is three thousand because he just wouldn't get that one damn hit that he needed and then sure enough. They hit the road unlike a ten game road trip. And i said you know what he's obviously going to do this on the road and then they got to the last day coors field and his donny. T-ball decided this is a good data. Start each euro suzuki a day before coming back home while everybody's been watching and waiting for each row to hit his three thousand. Three thousand did tracker bobblehead. I can show you dan that i showed mike sure i still have it. Sure enough. "Of a vintage lefty, with quite a resume, and I know you have a man crush on him for a long time, as did I. Great. How about Cole Hamels? How about Cole Hamels signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which gives them Incredible depth or see where he's at. He's a little like Madison Bumgarner. But with shares er he's going to pitch tonight, making his Dodger debut. Walker Buehler went yesterday. Last night. They're gonna throw Kershaw on Saturday against the Angels. Consulate's back on the I. L. Arrius could go to the bullpen again, like he did last October and closure. Give another nasty left hander and then he got David Price who could swing He was in the bullpen to start the year. I don't know what they're going to do. With Cole Hamels. "Madison Bumgarner. I'm glad you asked me. Right. So anyway, Murph, let's get into it here because we're talking Bumgarner. All these guys have a multiple bombs off Kershaw. When we kick back and enjoy some of the sounds. It was beautiful, very Sean into his stretch checks. Solano it second. And the pitch is swung on and hammered deep down the left field line. It is hooking on it is AH, home run, two run homer for Mauricio Du Bon, right down the left field line Strike pitch. Splinters struck him out swinging. Wow, that would not only plummeted downward, but it also broke away, but to seem kind of movement. That's just a nasty pitch. How it is hit hard to right center field. Going back on. It is Bellenger still going back? It is gone up over the right center field wall. Austin's later with that signature opposite field power. Second on run for the giant seventh of the year. For Slater, it's four nothing Giants here in the third in a swing, there's a pop fly shallow, right the strips. He's calling for it, and he's got it and on one pitch. Horns goes down and the Giants hang on. Just barely. They come back and take three in a row for the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Zafon Man, that's fine. Get ready to get going on Friday night, and Oracle Park should be a really, really fun weekend. They get that Saturday evening, late afternoon game to the four o'clock start on Saturday. Dodgers got the win yesterday. 3 to 1. I was hoping our old buddy Madison Bumgarner was gonna help us out a bit. Was a little bit erratic in the ideas. It was the first game for Albert Pool halls as a Dodger. You went one for four within our beyond Whatever. Just give me the exactly pulls. By the way. Did you hear these reports that That part of the reason the Angels released him was, he said he wanted to play every day. They don't report came out yesterday. He was like I never said that. I never told the angels that looks like It's It's sort of weird pageant forward for a guy who was there for so long for the Angels to potentially have made something like that up seems seems unrealistic to me. I don't know why you need to make something up like that. We could look at his numbers and see why it was that you. You let him go if we're gonna pay him. 40/40 years old. It's been 41 years old. So anyway, I'm Madison. Bumgarner in that outing yesterday for the Diamondbacks against the Dodgers didn't leave with a A doctor. Strange guess is like a groin injury inside of your grown so Bumgarner leaves the game did the four innings, two hits, two runs, five strikeouts for walks in that game, But Walker Bueller was nails for the Dodgers yesterday, seven innings, one hit allowed to the Diamondbacks. He struck out seven in a 31 victory. Also, the Padre shut out the Rockies yesterday. Seven. Nothing behind Yu Darvish is Four hits allowed 10 stretch outs, No walks in seven innings. So these are the teams. This is the teams that are built to play 1 62. Well, the Dodgers we know are built to play 1 62. The Padres played 60 and then puff their chest out and thought they were. They were world champs. I don't need to hear from the Padres fans. That's all I'm saying. Let's get back into some of these giant stuff here. The wind yesterday Logan Web Gabe Kapler said he would like him to have him come out for the seventh inning on Bob Lee would have brought him out for the seventh. Just based on how many games we're playing in a row here, how you don't have a whole lot of trust and right handed arms out of your benefit game would have liked to go toe Tonto Logan Web here and then maybe have gone. Tonto, Caleb Barrenger, maybe Harlan Garcia just to finish off the game. Let him go out there for the eighth and said one more guy out for the ninth and close this thing out, but Logan Webb was having some shoulder soreness. Here's Gabe Kapler after the game, saying doesn't think it's too serious. We're gonna keep it on. On it, But there's a reason he wasn't out there in the seventh. He was having some shoulder soreness. So so I spoke to him with our trainers, and we thought it was best to get him out of there and get him treated so well. We'll keep evaluating him, but that that's why we took him out again. Okay, So what's the next step here? Gaby going toe. Memorize it. Is it something serious like that? Or is it just some normal wear and tear? We're going to see how he feels tomorrow. I don't. I don't feel like it's it's anything serious at this point. Obviously, things can change. But it's something that was enough for me to say that I didn't want him to go back out there and put himself at risk. Check him out tomorrow and see how he's doing. So you have a big lead in the game, right? You feel pretty confident of that. And you know it. Z You just as young hey, hasn't pitched a full season. You got to remember that some of these guys who they're still getting ramped up for a full major league season. We saw him a couple of years ago, right? We saw a boat to use them. We saw him last year pitch at times pretty decently and came out of the bullpen at times. But really, this is a guy who I think they believe can be a middle of the rotation. Maybe in the future of Frontline rotation guy. He seems like he's been locating a whole lot better. We heard tons about the change up early in the season and how great he threw that pitch and spring training, and then he got into the sea. Season. It was just getting knocked around a little bit. Wasn't finishing pitches was not getting swings and misses that they were looking for, and then he had a 10 strikeout came out of that game last week against the Rangers, and he talked about pitching with more pace right the way Alex would pitches and Buster Posey a huge part about that, where the second you throw a pinch, you turn around and you get the ball back and he stepped back upon the rubber. You get ready to go again. Put the pressure on the hitter. Don't let him feel like he's got any time up there. They get a little and see they get jumpy. You could attack the zone You can you can pound the hands in and he can go soft away, especially to let Here's what you're gonna see. A lot of is a right hander. "All right. Thank you for that santa. Welcome back to the show til with the coast to coast and around the world on the american forces radio network what you got recalled. Think that's correct english. I'll tell you what you got. As i said this first hour is wide open Pretty horrible sports stay for me yesterday. and Not because the as got their winning streak snapped at thirteen. Although this guy garra he'll garros pitch for a few teams in the bigs but the as were down by three and the bottom of the eighth and they wanna go to the ninth of the chance. You know down by three runs. He got shot the guy walks for dudes and then they put in this guy. Calera than happy about the clerk has been nothing but horrible. Cash all the runs in and they lose eight to one It's going to happen. So the streak is over in baltimore mansa tampa where they started a four game series against the race tonight but so the thirteen game didn't get the fourteen games but now it was. Because my my team tottenham lost cup final on Manchester city is the best team in england. They might win the champions league and they were in the league cup. Finals are one chance of silverware. We have not won a trophy and thirteen years and You know off the post a couple times. I mean the the first twenty minutes city was basically in our box and it looked pretty bad. But still you get to the Eightieth minute and there still no score a figure one little mistake here or there and we can get it done but now this big dummy laporte heads in a corner and it's funny. I said out loud before the corner. i said. no one's looking at the port. He heads a dan. And i said what did i say. And moussa. sissoko. For tottenham the french international sos laporte by the way but he now is really the goat and our last two cup finals and the champions league final. He raised his arm to point something out and the ball hit his arm against liverpool. That cup final for me. The champions league final that lasted eighteen seconds before we started losing one. Nothing and so now he basically stands there and watches. I had a goal so Normally would say hey you win some you lose some. But this could have huge ramifications. It's been really bad. Week for tottenham with the Superleague idea and then with excuse me the whole thing with when you lose a cup file now tottenham are not in europe next year and this is the first time in many years. We won't be in europe next year and It makes you worried that You know guy. Like harry came might move to a different team you know. He's at the same age. Kyle walker was. When he left tottenham and since then kyle walker has a whole boatload of trophies. In his closet to keep miners there could be some penalties against at tottenham. The head of uefa. Sarah fanny said basically he groups the dirty dozen into three groups. He said the six english clubs. Who said he. He says he can't act like nothing happened. Which was what. I was kinda hoping for. So you can't act like nothing happened and thereby they're going to be punished somehow. He said the first six. He admired them because they were mature. Enough and strong enough and man enough to admit that they made a mistake And then the other three which for basically the You know the arses of the world but then the real madrid's and you've as the teams that he said they still think that there is a super league somehow. He says he's gonna come down on them really hard so not a good day in sports but this is the thing when you watch sports it might go your way. Am i not and so then. In baseball i saw A headline looking on the internet and it was from the arizona diamondbacks and it says Mad bum no. No were gonna count it. And i thought that was interesting. We're gonna count. And i thought we're going to count. It meant that there was some egregious scoring error. Meaning that somebody probably had a can of or a ball go through. His legs are bad. Throw and it was ruled an error not a hit thereby keeping the no alive. No it was because i realized later that they were in a double header against the bridge. And you only get to play seven innings. Well this is what the elias sports bureau says about that major league. Baseball's official statistician that neither team individual pitcher will be credited with a no no and a scheduled seven inning game of a doubleheader. And lestat game goes to nine innings in extra innings. Wow that's pretty good. They have that. But here's the thing mad bomb was asked about it and he said you know very earner i can't control how many innings i pitch remember. He's been nothing but atrocious. Since he's made the move to phoenix so this was the guy that they are paying for but remember. He watched in san francisco at tim. Linda threw a no hitter and another hitter. And let's cam gets a cy young and another science. And then he sees jonathan sanchez. Throw no header. And then he sees what has been thrown and then he sees mccain pitch a perfect game now a lot of those guys would trade what he did in game. Seven of the world series in two thousand fifteen for all that but still Matt madison bumgarner Never had a no now and look. It's not easy. I mean we just the padres us. How their first one in history with Joe moscow but the question is what do you think because on the one hand. I don't like taking things away from players. Who as he say can't control the stuff but then again i also don't want it to be a no hitter because in the history of baseball there are too many no hitters through seven to count literally too many no hitter through seven to count. So you'd have to go back and give all those guys now headers. Wouldn't you know somebody made the comparison of if you give the dodgers a full world series trophy after sixty game regular season in. How how can you not you know. That's not an asterisk. Which is true. But i do think that's apples and oranges. I don't think anything that's truncated the same as anything else. That has been shortened as well. I think what this is. The last birch bureau called it a notable achievement. like team. no headers i did. Does anybody impressed by a team. No hitter outside of the twitter feed of the eighteen year olds or nineteen year olds that run a teams twitter feed a combined. No hitter to me is a snooze. They'll have somebody go five and two thirds and.

"Mark. Fine san of mlb dot com joins us. Now we are baseball loaded. If you listen to wilpon you know how much he enjoyed the san diego. La dodger series. And i will certainly talk about that. But i think above all else is the madison bumgarner circumstance. Madison bumgarner threw a seven inning. No hitter yesterday. And the reason he didn't throw a nine in no hitter is because it was a seven inning doubleheader as per the new baseball rules. My question is if baseball makes a rule that doubleheaders will be seven innings in certain circumstances. And you can't go nine. Is that a no hitter. Because that's the official game. Is that a no hitter. Well the elias. Sports bureau says no. They're the ones who make these decisions. for major league baseball you know if a guy throws a no hitter in the game gift suspended or cancelled for rain and the game is an official game at five innings That a no hitter. That's also been ruled as a no so You know. I unfortunately for baumgartner that he won't go in the history books as having a no hitter Would have been the first of his career But you know who cares right. I mean these are these are these are little things that You know madison. Bumgarner is not gonna need this no hitter to cement his reputation. I'm pretty sure what he did. "I don't know if it happens this year, but it needs to and I know that that irritates half the people listening, but, um, I'm so over watching pictures hit. It's one of my least favorite things about baseball. I grew up in National League fan. I grew up a Cardinals fan. And then you know, I I ended up watching a lot of American League baseball in college and then working with the White Sox. I saw that Z. All I saw primarily was American League ball. It's just way better. It's just and I used to make the same arguments. About pitchers hitting that everybody else makes in defense of it, and I realized all those arguments are bad. All those arguments or bad there's there's not a good reason to allow pictures to hit and they want to hit is not a good reason to allow them to hit. They just can't do it, and it's Okay again. Let me rephrase. It's not that they can't do it. It's just that the deck is stacked against them to do it. We'll think about your favorite hitter who goes through a slump. And it happens to everybody. Every single good hitter in baseball. Maybe not Mike Trout, but everybody else they go through slumps. How do you get out of a slump? Lawrence? Um, you keep hitting, you keep hitting. What do pictures not get to do? They don't get to hit. That's right. You get hit today you get that you get to it. Bats every five days. How are you supposed to be able to hit if you get too big league? It bats every five days. Well, I always love when people will drop Madison Bumgarner into the conversation that good. He was good, like in the playoffs or something right. So, like his numbers overall, are Overwhelming. Still like a 1 75 hitter, which is great for a pitcher, But But when you're talking about someone that you're gonna have do it every day. No like and that's the best one you can throw at me. This is the best guy you can throw me. It's the only one they can throw. Here's his. Here's his slash, Okay, his career slash and this is the guy that people throw in front of you and say pictures should it 1 77. 2 28 303 Get out of here within 5 32 0 parable. Terrible. Absolutely. I don't wanna watch it. Yes, it is entertaining when a pitcher Gets into one and hits a home run. But do you know why it's so entertaining? Because because novelty it's so unbelievable, like, Oh, my God, I can't believe he did it. I appreciate you dropping by the show. You bring up a lot of interesting points that I think they were going to continue on. Continued good health and success, and it's always good to talk to you, sir. I love you, my friend. I love you, too. That is Chris Roger and he brings up a good point about the D. H. Let's talk about this. Trent Grisham fans the flames of Dodgers-Padres rivalry after home run

"The dodgers manager Dave Roberts he complained that the padres didn't show Clayton Kershaw proper respect after hitting a big home run Trent Grisham hit the home run and he hit a home run in the sixth inning off Clayton Kershaw to tie the game. And he stared at down a little bit and. Dodgers Dave Roberts was not pleased. He said, I don't mind guys admiring a homer. Certainly, it's a big game big hit. Robert. Said after the game I really liked the player I just felt that to over kind of stay at home plate certainly against a guy like Clayton who's got the respect of everyone in the big leagues and what he's done in this game, I took exception to that because I think there's a certain respect that you give a guy like that if you homer against him. People I think then said, well, wait a minute the dodgers. Made. Member when they hit the home run off Madison Bumgarner didn't they turn it into a t shirt that they kind of. Sat there and. Admired their homerun. Kershaw himself had the right position. He I'm not gonNA worry about their team. Let him do what he wants.

Diamondbacks' Madison Bumgarner secretly competes in rodeo events

"Arizona Diamondbacks left hander Madison Bumgarner has been competing in rodeo events under the alias Mason's Saunders and even one of twenty six thousand five hundred sixty dollars and a team roping competition in December according to a story published Sunday by the athletic Bumgardner was told I told the website that he has discreetly competed in rodeos for awhile including in March of last year two days before pitching for the San Francisco Giants in a cactus league spring training game he's been roping since he was fifteen or sixteen and said he's been added so long that quote it's just part of who you are he's the twenty fourteen World Series MVP if he agreed to an eighty five million dollar five year contract with the Diamondbacks this past December and I'm sorry Courtney if I was the diamond backs I wouldn't be thrilled to find out that my ace left hander yes competing in rodeos in the offseason this is the same guy who got injured on a dirt bike do not remember that when he was with the giants and that was a serious injury that put him out for a very long time no wonder he was performing I guess you want to call that under a pseudonym or a fake name because had you found out about this the Diamondbacks might not have spent eighty eighty five million dollar a gigantic sum over a five year contract on this guy I mean it doesn't make any sense like I understand the thrill of competition and this is who we is but these risky things every sport has stuff like this written into players contracts that you cannot do I mean I always go back to when it when he got hurt in San Francisco a few years ago do you remember the month Taylor's thing when he was with the warriors he fell off the scooter when he went back to Mississippi for the offseason S. lied about it yeah that was a story that came to mind and I feel like any time something like this it comes to the light I'm not one of these people is like all the cool funny look how cute of the story is I'm like what is he thinking like you get injured and made these you know these are animals eat these things have a mind of their own they're powerful they're strong and certainly he's you know well conditioned and knows how to be around horses but you know that to me is way too big of a risk if I'm a professional athlete you know the prime of my career to take but you know he's done it before and that he is you know we don't really get that much of outside having serious injuries at receiver big penalty from the team for you know the motorbike thing according to have the details how did he come up with the alias of Mason's Saunders instead of going with you know his own name Madison Bumgarner sell it this came from directly from the athletic article that broke the story said quote if you competed as Madison Bumgarner every phone camera in the area that would have been trained on him he said so he devised Mason Saunders the surname is the maiden name of his wife Allie Mason is a shortened version for Madison and it's something allegedly his wife called him out in public so people don't recognize them so very clever I'll give him that but I don't think the whole thing is a buzz saw her story totally bizarre and the other thing is you know if this was an NBA player everybody would recognize them already because NBA players are actually recognizable it just goes to show you how anonymous baseball players are that the most clutch postseason pitcher maybe of all time can compete in rodeos and nappy racket I think what I know it's wild lake in the in the fact is here like he continues to go what do these very risky things it just doesn't seem to care yeah if you get caught I mean there's the photo in that athletic article where he's smiling and you know he's with I guess that it's a two person thing that team roping so I hope twenty six thousand dollars I hope that Madison Bumgarner did not keep that for myself given the gigantic contract he just signed in December the but yeah he looks he's not there we is in this picture I mean I just think it's hilarious how almost incognito so many baseball players can live their lives in that matter just because they blend in because they're not these gigantic athletes by and large I mean they're not six eight or you know they don't think Shaquille o'neal out there everybody would be able to tell if you're you know for the most part with NBA athletes I just don't understand why when you have hit the genetic lottery anyway to be able to throw the ball a hundred miles an hour the end and to be able to make eighty six million dollars really it's more than that doing this why you would ever risk your body or put like what your fans in your organization is rooting for on the line so recklessly and you pointed out he already ruined the giants season aired my fantasy baseball season which is far more important Courtney by falling off of that dirt bike a couple years ago and here he is I guess he says I'm just going to live my life and Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen told the athletic that quote he was not going to get into discussing specific contract language but you pointed this out that we know the player contracts have I can't imagine that the Diamondbacks are cool with their ace pitcher also being a rodeo road being a cowboy literally let alone they don't want to be a Dallas cowboy let alone in being a literal cowboy well I just remember a couple years ago at the end I felt combine whistle and was talking to Mike Zimmer about you know the quarterback situation at that point he had said that Sam Bradford had a degenerative knee I come to find out later that offseason I was speaking with Kyle Rudolph who said that he went skiing with Sam Bradford that off season right around the time of the combine so I'm thinking to myself you are here you are a health concern and you're going skiing or you could very easily risk tearing your ACL for a third time and you already had your season cut short because of injury like I wonder if these guys just do it for the thrill or maybe they just don't care because they have ungodly amounts of money to begin with if they feel like they can the kind of invincible they can do whatever they want but you do wonder like this has to be in contract language if you cannot do things like this because we know across sports there's certain things you're just not able to do I it's a liability reasons you ever been to a rodeo Courtney I half I went Mississippi when I work down there the show but county fair rodeo I've been to the Cheyenne frontier days shout out if you're listening in Cheyenne Wyoming on the ESPN radio affiliate there I gotta tell you it's oddly it is oddly entertaining but the the thrill of it is almost that you think that the that the ball right is just going to charge and block these cowboys into next year it is one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen and I never in my life once thought you know what it be cool to jump in there with these bowls and try to try this on for for my but how do you even practice you know you kind of just have to get in there and and take it on right yeah I guess I guess so what I mean I've seen the photos of Madison Bumgarner I'd taken the horse around the warning track at AT&T park when he was still a giant I just think that that's who he is this is got this guy is a country bumpkin at heart from North Carolina and I I just think that he grew up this way and it's always gonna be a part of him so he feels like Hey I'm an able bodied individual and I also have more money than anybody at this rodeo thing I'm gonna do what I want and it's somebody else take issue with it I'm sure they actually would found out about it right now well look I know why it's so good in the clutch in game seven of the World Series because if that that's nothing compared to facing down the eyes of a bull

What...Just...Happened?

"Dozo with Sunday it baseball's Jessica and does and Jess Wow that game last night was insane that's the kind of name I got to tell you do the post-game work and you go back to the hotel and you're staring at the walls in the hotel room wide awake because you have so much his rental in and I was what about you because eventually I did go back to sleep but you had to get up like three hours later to get up this morning yeah it was up at five and then you write everything and I know now I have such an appreciation for writers because I like to give all of because I know that everyone that I'm working with this morning didn't watch the game and so I basically the right everything that I feel like we're the highlights of things I want to get into all the stuff I need them to look up graphics Oh that's put me up until one two in the morning and the I'm upset if I walk into work and getting ready to go so I'm a morning person it's been the nights that like that's why I'm so excited about this game six because I'll tell you what there's been a couple of games this world series where I'm like fighting sleep in the sixth seventh innings. I've only got a few hours this one I mean buster there were times I was jumping on my bed in my hotel room liking the TV Blake I'm sure my neighbors the hotel do not appreciate I'm like come on the world series game six you should be watching it was it was a nutty gate for the most part we'll put it this way in the first five games the world series there was one lead change last night we had two plus all the craziness for that game distinguish itself from the rest of the world series and I've got a laundry list of stuff to get tune we'll get into all of what happened last night but let's start with this I thought you know Dave Martinez what an emotional night like he goes absolutely nuts during the course of the game we're in the seventh inning stretch and he looked down the field and all of a sudden I see Dave Martinez being restrained by one of his coaches and he's going after the umpires he winds up getting a in our life by the Japan and their life go ahead the one who's restoring him he's gotTa winds up being rejected first manager in twenty three years to be objected from a world he's game and then after the game you get knuckleheads like me going in there and ask you know the right questions about how he felt in that moment and what did you think about the call I Dave Martinez handled it perfectly because he's like you know what I don't WanNa get any that I don't want to talk about that and he said it respectfully he said I I understand but you know what it's all about game seven in so many words and that's exactly what I thought he should have done in that moment considering what the outcome was there was no reason for him to relive all the details game unless they lose like I feel like and not that you want to relive it anyway and you WanNa take the high road but there was a moment there and this is for the people who weren't watching the game live but when you're watching it live during the entire time empires had the headsets on that that the showing trae Turner in the out just the emotions completely I mean honestly watching the broadcast they were bleeping out every other word was coming out of that dugout because it was so much emotion it felt like that something we're gonNA WE'RE GONNA be talking about this moment for years because in that moment it felt like the nationals are gonNA lose this game and this is why it's GonNa be because of this so I think Dave Martinez would have been a completely different person had anthony rendon day income and hit that home run I think then he would have been a lot more but when you win the game and it's like why go back in blow up that entire call a hundred percent and that's what I thought was really smart by him to not go back and relive that because they won the game and they force game seven and game seven will be started by Max Scherzer who chess on Sunday comes walking stiffly into the interview room in front of reporters he When he was answering questions he wasn't turning his neck he was sitting in his wheelchair and turning the whole swivel chair to talk to reporters and he was so down he gets a cortisone shot which pitchers talk about is being such essentially a miracle drug and then yesterday when we walk into the Ballpark here in Houston he's in catching the outfield and goes to Intel's Day Martinez I'm ready to go and you get the feeling that this could be something that could fire or at the players I asked David about that before the game yesterday about you know whether or not the players might rally around this any mentioned that time when Max fouled the ball off he was on face broke his nose and the next day Texan picture instead I'm good to go and he started that day with the black is Dave said that got the players fired up I gotta believe tonight there'll be so much adrenaline Max on the mound especially because I mean from that press conference buster and and for those of us that know him he was devastated Leanne devastated on Sunday that he could not help his team and I felt like it worked in the reverse like he could not hide the emotion of how much he felt like he was leading his team down and because of that and not because that's the sole reason they lost by any means at all but I felt like the team reacted to his devastation and not just him not pitching the overall vibe that he was giving like I feel awful that I can't pitch in game that I'm supposed to I think it works in the reverse for game seven because he is battled on everything he can the cortisone shot I think my only concern was shirt tonight is we've seen in his starts in this postseason him go one hundred ten and plus pitches how much length can't he give this team now the good thing is you know Daniel Hudson Sean deal those two pitchers you can use anybody pretty much out of the bullpen and there is more options for Dave Martinez out of the bullpen but what we've seen is they need length from these starters how much length can shares her bring your stuff was just flat from the get-go the guys more pitches than anybody in baseball this year over four thousand he just he just didn't have it and I think it was because he he's tired at the end of a long year and right that's the question about Max tonight on the other side we're GonNa see Zach ranking who's also looked tiredness postseason and I would assume that he's he followed by Garrett Cole I talked to Garyk before game six and asked him about how his ability with game seven was something he was handling because of the flight on the day last turn it had a similar situation where normally I would pen on day two but since we were flying I decided to it settled in DC and throw my pen on day three which for this week sets up pretty much the same exact way and I felt really good last week on day three so I'm just taking the same routine did last week to prepare for the bullpen as I'm doing this week to prepare for possibly having to pitch game seven yes I think he's GonNa wind up pitching like innings four through six tonight what do you think yeah I think so I think this is something that you definitely see and I think just for the royalva nats I mean to be able to get to that grinky you know the point that they want to be able to do they're going to have to do it early and once they do that knowing what is looming in the bullpen and that's one thing opposite of the nationals is the astros have so many guys that they can go to and Garrett Cole who has been the ultimate throw down the hammer are you know for the scene the one point I have to make with Garrett Cole and I know we've seen it so much but the last time he has pitched in relief you go back to his freshman year at us Cla I went and looked at this against the ant eaters gave up a winning run I mean this is like I know it's liked onion cheek like it's been how long since he was a little frothy with the Bruins this is something that I do think fans that now we've seen it time and time again from Randy Johnson no Madison Bumgarner these star pitchers come out of the bullpen it's not as easy is it looks folks he's talking about it being similar to bullpen game he's never done it really he's never done it as a professional he's never done it with the Astros this is something that I think you definitely look for especially early on if he's coming in mid inning what what is he doing where's his heart rate because it's definitely different than than coming in just as the starter all right let's dig into game six last night we'll start with this golf clap or Stephen Strasburg watching that last night just reminded me of how I felt during the two thousand fourteen postseason watching Madison bumgarner where he seemed so in control where even when there were runners on base pitching backwards coming back and counts by throwing off speed pitches he was just absolutely composed and in the end despite the fact that Max Sherzer got up at one point in the sixth inning there Stephen Strasburg still out on the mound in the ninth inning what a performance the fifth five no yeah this amazing to me again Jose Altuva and I remember in the moment I sent this note to our producer in the moment I was like I don't know what's GonNa Happen in this game but to me this is the stories this isn't even the game like that fifth inning at bat it to Jose Altuve to me was the series why I mean you have a pitcher or a hitter up to bat similar to the Anthony Rendon in the first inning where all you really gotta do is put the bomb play take one of those breaking balls fine whole get to the grass score some runs and respond and felt like to all the guys in that order that's what he does I mean that guy can hit anything and Stephen Strasburg you'll get three pitches he started on what the

Giants' trade deadline activity draws mixed reviews from fans

"Is giants Fan and she has really been through it in the last couple of weeks so we're GonNa talk a little bit about that Claire. Can you take take me where you were emotionally a month ago and where you are now a few days removed from the trade deadline. I know that's a big ask but I mean it was so easy busy at the start of the season to two giant fan because you knew what you were going to get you just going to have a terrible season that he was gonna be garbage just awful to watching it. At the trade deadline the best players would leave that Madison bumgarner would go play for another team and it was going to be awful. I wrote something for our emily preview. Have you got it like I was preparing to say goodbye I was. I was distraught but you know it had to happen. This is easy. Oh well that was the easy part and then suddenly it turned into July first and all of a sudden the giants remembered how to play baseball. They went sorry this down somewhere her in the first three weeks of July fourteen in three and the Games are fun had dominant pitching offense leading and comebacks extra inning heroics the name naming Madison of course phenomenal as always <hes> and suddenly it became a thing where Oh my God they can't Trade Madison. Listen bumgarner anybody because probably the giants are going to win the world series. I mean they're not they're not book probably <hes> <hes> so it just turned into this this kind of nightmare of <hes> I I was feeling then sad but then about the trade deadline <hes> until July and then suddenly I really did not want the team to trade Madison Bumgarner particular but also kind of knew that <hes> even with the team suddenly performing kind of well it was more than likely something of a fluke in which case they absolutely should bumgarner but anyway it's the journey so let's start there with Madison Bumgarner because there are other players obviously that other teams were interested in. I think the biggest rumor before this heading into the season and then it continued can you throughout was like closer will Smith <hes> and he ended up not moving either <hes> but I do want to start with bumgarner because he's kind of like the big ticket item for giants fans. Obviously he holds a very important place in all of Y'alls heart because of his postseason performance and just he's been kind of like the one consistent thing on that pitching staff since they've become in this generation of players so for you. What is your relationship to him? What was your relationship so the idea of maybe moving him and letting him go to a contender because I'm just going to say this plainly I guess the rest of Baseball Kinda hates him and reason so so when he's wearing your uniform arm and he's obviously brought to you a lot of these just elite moments of happiness? What is it like to watch the rest of baseball hope that he kind of fails and then did you want to keep him this time around at the trade deadline and y Yeah I mean the way I feel about Bumgarner <hes> I should stop calling in Madison?

Cashman: Yanks weren't close to deadline deals

"They will again they were dangling they just didn't get anything done interestingly enough it was that great he was pitching against the Yankees on Wednesday in the Bronx it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio so Brian Cashman the general manager of the yanks said they were attempting to make some deals most his reasons it didn't work out so certainly disappointed you'd like to have more if you could but I don't have any realistic chance the in my mind based on the dialogue to do so and so for the Yankees for Brian Cashman I think he's more tempered than what he and the Yankees have been in the past when it comes to deadlines they are less inclined I'm not saying they won't do if they're less inclined to mortgage the farm usually why the past anyway they've had a reputation for over buying and also over paying but now they like what they have though they certainly could have used another starter what they like what they have and they feel like even with the Astros in their pitching staff that they've got the bats to be able to match the again Cashman says they did look around they did try to make a deal but there are only so many teams that are selling we knew it was a fair market and it was obviously stiff competition even inside the American League for the services of say as aggregate of course the question then turn to what happens if you match up with the Astros in the playoffs play this season now we'll take care of our own business to put ourselves in a position to be one of those fourteen teams that play in October and then take our roster up against whoever in season or Texas hopefully we're in a position to be planned them in a meaningful game maybe you never know when you match up but you know obviously he's a really good pitcher and and helps their club certainly but we know Ingle beat anyone and that's you know nothing changes there so that Grady had to the Astros and if you care about this sort of thing the oddsmakers now place them along the favorites to win a world theory is you know what happens when the odds makers jump in and make predictions that actually happens when anybody makes a prediction the sports god laughing you'll face so what do you think baseball fans it's not Madison Bumgarner would shout what a bore me away but it is that grain key who should the American League previously remember he was with the Royals it seems like for every go that he was with the kids the Royals doesn't it wow so now he returns to the American League and he's already a lot of with him in a lot of experience but he's already now a guy who doesn't have to worry about pressure he is not to be number one guy he stepped into a rotation that wall is certainly can use him has the confidence and I believe me AL
