"The Colorado Lottery. Sinclair Oil And granite transformation. All right, So if you have you eyeballed this, um have you eyeballed this bracket? I have. Okay, So we know that Shohei Otani, uh, the incredible player for the angels. He is basically the guy that they are looking to to make the major part of the noise. He is the number one seed, Okay? He is the number one seed in. As you pointed out. He has guys 33 home runs at the break. Now. Not only is he a Phanom in that play, all right, Alfred. He's not only here as a hitter, but he's an all Star pitcher. He's he's starting All Star pitcher. I mean, are you got to be kidding me, right? This guy is the epitome of all around player. You know, you've always had some guys that could hit if they were pitchers, but no Many like this right and to see that because I know Babe Ruth pitched. Let's just be clear in the modern era of baseball where everybody has a specialty. You know, A lot of guys are our specialty players. Shohei Otani is a phenom. Can we think of anybody that was remotely close to him? That is of modern time. Uh, would be Bumgardner is the closest Not even close. Why? Because he was able to. Yeah, around a little. I mean, I could see how you can look at it that way, But I don't know. I don't think that, uh Don't think I would look at him as as somebody like I'm trying to think who was the, uh, Cooper used to be that picture That was with the Cubs for a long time that always used to live that always used said he was He was a threat to bat. I mean, here's what you have to think, Alfred. You got to think of guys that when they when they, um Have a chance to get into the game. Hey, you'll you'll pull this guy off the bench and have him be a pinch hitter. Right? Okay. And in this case, that doesn't necessarily happen when it comes to Shohei Otani, because when he's not pitching, he's still he's still in the lineup, right? He's still in the lineup because you need his bad. Okay, so show here. Tony is the number one seed. Is facing up against Juan Soto, who is the eighth seed from the Washington Nationals. Then you have the four seed, Which is Perez, who will be up against Alonzo That is Perez from the Kansas City Royals and Alonso from the New York Mets. Then he got Joey Gallo, who is the two seed going up against Trevor Story who is the seventh seed? That is from the other side of the bracket, and then Matt Olsen from the Oakland A's against Trey Mancini from the Baltimore Orioles. So when I looked at the way this bracket Ended up coming out. I actually even though I think Joey Gallo and and coo put it really good on Friday when you were out, Joey Gallo has definitely taken on the all or nothing approach to his at bats this year. He's either swinging for the fences very striking out. Um so oh, you know, the way that he is basically the way his swing is going right now I think that he's going to be a I think it's gonna be a tough out for for Trevor Story, but but I do have him moving on to the next round pass Trevor, based on the fact that there's got to be something about being, uh The hometown guy and I have a feeling that's gonna be a lot of rocky fans in the stands. I think that's what that's why I'm giving a nod Travel story because I do believe that the home field juice is going to be there. Along with the ability and know how in his own in his home ball. Part of where to place that ball. I mean, he knows his areas. He knows this is this is this is where he takes batting practice practice. You know, at least 81 times a year, So I think this is gonna be fun. I know I'm moving him forward. And I know that's not popular when you talk about the number two seed versus the number seven, But we're also talking about emotion playing a big part of this, All right. So if you move Trevor story forward, um Then he is up against the winner of Matt Olsen and Trey Mancini. Um and I moved Matt Olsen forward. That's who I had in my bracket. I'm moving travel story forward. So so I've got Matt Olsen against Trevor story then now for them to, uh, by the way, if you if you did your bracket with just straight chalk Which would be oh, tiny versus Gallo. It'll be It'll be Otani versus Perez in the next round. Uh and then the finals of of Otani versus Gallo, right? Mm hmm. I listen I and here's the other thing. You know Shohei Otani as many home runs as he's got, Let's see what it looks like when it's just happening with straight to beat the straight BP. I mean, you and I watched you and I We were here for the opening day. Two point. Oh, we sat up. In the broadcast booth at course field and we watched Rockies manager but black throw BP right and he threw the occasional trash. He threw the occasional not straight group for for batting practice, especially when Ryan McMahon what was up there. Um Right, But, you know, listen. Trevor story said that for him to hit a home run here at course field it's going to take a 75% effort. Let me ask you this. Let me ask you this. Do you believe This is Trevor Stories Swan Song has sent out to the Colorado Rockies fans because we do know that there is a high probability that something is going to happen here and the next two or three weeks, right? Yeah. I mean, you would think after before the trade deadline, you would think that there is going to have to be a significant decision made it one of two things. It's either you off from a giant free agent deal. All right, and because he's going to be a free agent, right, So you got to offer him you got to offer him the fat money that he would receive on the open market. And then he would have to decide that he wants to take that money from the Rockies and and stay because The last time that we saw somebody take that kind of money. That was Nolan Erin nado. And it ended up being very tough to pay, especially, um, with some of the struggles that the franchise was having during Covid. So the trade deadline is July 30th this year, Okay? About a couple of weeks away, right? You got to think that this is this is this is this is maybe The last time of highlights that will get to see another great Colorado Rocky, But, um, this is this is where we are right now. As a franchise, we start talking about Colorado Rockies. Um, we've we've been battling him late, man, You know if if we would have had any success on the road, man, we're talking about a team that's in it. But we can't do if and you know if this season away, you know it is what it is. We're just Haven't been good enough on the road. But if our home splits were matched up with our road splits, then we will be in it. Yeah. I mean, look if the Rockies played 400 all 400 ball on the road That makes a significant difference with the way that they've been playing at home, So you're absolutely right. By the way. Rocky's got a very rare series win against the Padres in these they went. They took two or three for the Padres in this last series before the All Star break. So you know, fingers crossed for good things to happen in the second half of the car, right Iraqis, But, yes, you're right. Trevor story decision is going to have to be made. I want to remind you, Governor poll. This is going to be joining us on the other side around 5 36. We'll talk about the For it that he and Mayor Michael Hancock made to get the All Star game moved here to Denver, where Major League Baseball had to make that move. It's big Allen Joo. This is K away the voice of Colorado. We give you traffic.

"It's going to be really difficult to close that gap. Paul White with us, So we love having Paul on to have this type of discussion. What about the Mets? You look at surprises and you know, I look at their pitching and Taiwan Walker is having a breakthrough year. The Graham is the new Bob Gibson. Uh, you got Stroman, who has been very good. Then after that, you kind of have a drop off, Really? But maybe the Mets would be a team that would be active. They got a new owner. They seem to want to spend money. Maybe the Mets with the team that we're overlooking. I think very much so because you know they they've still got to be careful in that division. I mean, Washington was making a run. They had it down to two games before the Dodgers got there and and and left with left them a couple games under 500. I still fear Washington more than I fear. Atlanta Atlanta got too many injuries. You know, I don't know if they're stars can carry my albies. Acuna and Freeman have got to carry them at this point, and they're pitching is beat up enough. I don't know if they can make our own but Yeah, The Mets I think definitely are are in play here. Right now. They've kind of stolen the city of New York from the Yankees. The everything is negative about the Yankees in New York. Right now, The Mets are positive. They feel like they're just now starting to get their offense back together. They haven't had Nimmo most of the year. They haven't had come forward to most of the year. Alonso has been okay down Smith pretty unheralded guy. That's a real nice player in left field for them. There are offenses coming around so they might actually go and try to load up that staff go get one more legit, solid starting guy and all of a sudden you could have four really good Starting pitchers, along with a pretty deep bullpen. Edwin Diaz has been lights out again this year. Finally, after struggling there last year They could be the pitching monster that that's a super threaten the playoffs. Well, let's see if send the garden. Carrasco come back. We haven't talked about it right? You know again, if you can, if you know that's still pretty easy. But if that happens all of a sudden that's better than the deadline trade and I have to give out anything up to the suddenly add that to your rotation. Well, that's like the Giants in Longoria. Bill, ask you Let me ask you this seven no hitters and look at surprises of the year and it looks like every week we have another one. Marquez lost his in the ninth inning. On the middle of the week here. Why are there so many games like this? Well, I tell you what, Marty, I don't even know if there's going. I mean the seven inning, no hitters. We're not even counting out from Bumgardner. I just think it's analytics. I think you're just scouting. I really believe the shifts helping out It's just one of those years where pitchers are really dominating at times, but I want to ask Paula question. Good afternoon. Paul. Um, one of the things I look at, and when you're talking about trades in July are usually the lower based teams in each division. But when you start looking at some of these teams are the Yankees going to be sellers. Are the Angel is going to be sellers and an American league. But the team that I circle around Minnesota because they have so many different parts on that team from Barrios, the starter to to Rogers into bull pin. Maybe a couple hitters. Is this a team that maybe just be? All out Sellers. Yeah, that's that's That's a real interesting point. Because that that is a team. They're one of the biggest disappointments, disappointments of this season in all of baseball and and And frankly, the guys that they felt like they were building this team around have been a disappointment. Now, maybe Barrio stays. He's probably the yanker of that rotation. Um, but they've got my aided there Who could be a nice piece. And you know the interesting guys offensively there. I mean, you know, Miguel Sano has been a flop. They keep waiting and waiting and waiting..

No one else 4700 and the Yaser playing 600 ball. They drew 4700 on the first game with no capacity limits at the calcium. Yeah, Who the hell is going to go on Cabals and damn Vegas tweeting out pictures of my hockey game and videos And I mean I think that ownership group has given you no reason to go. The team has given us to the markets. Simeon wave Goodbye. That was Yeah, but the ownership group has given you no reason and they continue to give you no reason to. It's almost like they don't want you to go. Like they're trying to keep you away from the ballpark. Major league. The movie? Yeah, they took. Yeah, exactly like Fisher is that woman owner although I don't think they're going to strip him down and put paces on his nipples in the locker room and say, Well, let's win. The whole bleeping thing is Tom Barry injury said. But what it's like I want to go. But I got to pay for parking. I get to pay for it and and giving the money to you. You. Would every turn has said you don't want to be here. You want to go somewhere else? You do not want to be here, and I got to support that. Like I mean, you know it is the players. Is there better not from the fans from the ownership group. That's who they deserve More from and the fans are like, What the hell man? I'm giving you this. Like I'd love to come watch you guys play, but what I pay for is going to go into their pockets. I ain't giving little guy in the damn money when they have proven over and over and over again. They don't want to be here. It's got his fans proved that they would rather give the Giants their money. Than the A's. There were more A's fans at each of those three Bay Bridge games. At Oracle. Then there was nothing is game last night. I didn't do a head count. I'm pretty sure there was more than 5000 Days. Fan for each of the street, right? Is it a statement against the ownership group? Or is it just They're just not want to be invested because this is one of baseball's best teams. They could potentially win the World Series and they're they're They've got a marketing deal out right now, Howard Terminal or Bust. You have the president of the team openly flirting with other cities basically saying, Hey, if we don't get this vote, I think the next date is July. The seventh is there is the sum they're having some kind of Ballpark vote at that point, or some will have some clarity. I believe at that point But, um, I mean, I just don't think people want the gun pointed at them saying, Hey, you know, come support our team, especially when they Marcus Simeon walk to Toronto in his prime. He goes there for a one year deal. He's an all star this year. He's your guy. He's a homegrown guy. The man went to mow down. He went to Berkeley paid that man. It's okay. People raising Yeah, I mean, it's it's it's repudiate of repudiation. He tried to say in English of the ownership group. They don't want to go to that stadium. And the stakes are low right now. Regular. It's one of 162. And while they are very good team playing as you mentioned Larry playing 600 ball game last night, what did it really mean? Nothing. When the playoffs roll around, there's going to be tens of thousands of people there if the A's are finally able to go deeper into the playoffs, so they get to the L. C. Yes, sir. If they get to the World Series is gonna be 50,000 people. They'll be hanging from the rafters. My A's buddy friend said. The tickets are kind of echoed. What Tom said said that between the tickets in the parking is too much for what they're offering. Three, said. I'm actually too much when they're saying we don't want to be here and I can't prove this. But don't you get The inkling that they don't want to be here like they're going to. They're going to make the effort to be here. But in reality, they'd probably rather move to Vegas and have their own city. I mean, they they clearly they would like Their own roost to rule. I think they'll go with Whatever's easiest. And this vote that is coming up here in a little bit. Maybe that Howard terminal situation does become easier. But really, they're just looking for a situation to where they can. Get their stadium there, get the available land around it and then start to build up that land because it's all the real estate deal. So, however, they have to get that and wherever they have to get that, whether it's l, A L A Vegas or, uh, Howard Terminal or Portland or Charlotte or whatever. We'll go wherever they can do. You know they can do. That's so funny, too. When people like people like Oh, yeah, Like, right, we're gonna go to Vegas. It's like 115 degrees and like people do realize there's a team in Arizona, right? And there's these things called domes now is newfangled entity is called domes that they can build, no matter how hot it is. In Vegas, you're going to play inside who needed to play outside, like milled Arlington Stadium. Oh, God, It's hard today. We gotta go dry every day game. Oh, no, I can't. I still couldn't imagine that planet them digging in early. I went to one Did you really went to one at the place that they just moved out of Mm hmm. And I went to the old Arlington Stadium, which was basically a glorified high school baseball field would be manually Stadium with bleachers around it. Yeah, that place That place cooked because they had metal bleachers. She said. They really yo Yeah, guy. Oh, your old Arlington Stadium That's like that's like a lawsuit waiting to happen. It was your ass there literally out there. And you just you cooked, watching a really bad baseball team because I used to spend Summers in Dallas, who, having family up there boarded. It made me appreciate the astronaut. Because he just like I want to watch baseball outside, like real people. Then you go watch baseball outside all being in north Texas in August, and you're like this. Oh, you're like a long time Billy went there my ass cooking shit. Yeah. Why my thighs burning. I don't understand and and then gussying it up and go into the new place that they just moved out of Uh, it was. It was nice. It was nice. It was H O double t. It's a hairdryer. It's literally if you you know, especially Arlington. Arlington is right there. Open the winds howl through there. I went to one game there, and I just couldn't believe how hot it was. Was like 97. It was nighttime and the wind was blowing. And they had a pretty good wind shield for it. I mean, it was. It was pretty close Stadium, but still, I mean, you walked outside the stadium, and it was just absolutely when Wendy's hack Yeah, That was the old right center field Jet stream and the old Arlington. Uh, yeah, well stadium, but you hit it to right center like, Oh, that's an out. It's out 20 rows. Good night. Like everything to right center, and if it was just like, look out, because that ball would fly. Going that way. I watched a lot of Angel games when they played the Rangers and when the Rangers were like, really good Those are some really good games. The boy dudes hit that ball to right center. Good night over. I love the fact that The Ballpark at Arlington. It's sacred ground for Giants fans. That's where you got that first Chip baby. Yep, That's right. That is sacred ground. Now. I believe they're using it for high school football because, well, Texas, Texas think the Giants might have won the first ever interleague game. They did against the range for Darrell Hammond. The first ever hit. Yeah. Was that here, wasn't it here. I think it was here. Now. Is there is there okay? Yep. Yeah. Ham Bone came up on the top of the first kind of first ever got to get nearly at Darryl Hamilton, one of my favorite people. I thought Texas By the way, I thought Texas and Detroit would have given the Giants more of a run in 10 and 12, and they did. I really felt like the looking back and 10 and 12. I felt like the L. C s and the road. The road of the World Series was more daunting than the World Series. Well, actually. And what was it? Uh, 12 12 was the post 12. They fell behind 312. The story was 14, right? 12. Casey was 14, right. That was a Bumgardner one. Yeah, Okay, always get them confused. But that was more about the The road leading To the World Series. Once I got to the World Series, I agree with you. They were underdogs. Detroit was a favorite in that series, Martinez and, uh, in the Correra and Verlander and fielders with sure they're still on that team. Who has he gone at that point, boy? I don't. Yeah..

"Good to be back in the first Midwest Bank studio after a fantastic day was that for some of us of golf out at, uh, seven bridges town, he didn't have fun. I had a great time. I actually had, uh And I'll get into this story on what happened, but for a live rescue, And while they just had adorable dogs out there they did. They all need homes, and they do great work and with the pandemic has done for many different Things and people who give back is is just like a lot of us experience than they need help, and it was great that our listeners are fans came out and wanted to help everybody And it was great to congregate in large large numbers. I can't tell you how great that fell normal. It did. And more to come from Yes, we're gonna have some announcements on future things that we're going to be doing with the fan. Fantastic. Can't wait. Good time had by all a tip of the cap to all of the fine people here at ESPN 1000 that made yesterday. Possible all our promotions crew, Rachel and Travis and Jess and everyone all the sales grew. And everybody, thank you all for making yesterday. Very memorable in a very memorable Yes, I've got a very meaningful event. A lot of the listeners thought that they should get dibs next year since they played in the inaugural one kind of like season tickets, because, remember, this thing sold out four minutes, right. The only people that have dibs for next year's event is the group that actually finished last. Yeah. They have an automatic. All right. So, um more more stories. Why Deline? I both have fantastic stories blackened of dollars while they were on the course observations from the golf outing that you'll get a kick out of We'll get into all that. And also, um, this is this is a brand new hot item hot giveaway today only on the water and Sylvie show only on today's show. We've got one of the South side. Oh city connect jerseys. We've got the better of the two city connect jerseys that's coming from a Cubs fan and we will give that away today. Stay tuned here in a few minutes. I'll give you details on how you can win it out. But we've got our hands on. We do right like these things. So just like the golf outing hotcakes. I think they sold out like two hours all over the place. Sylvie Strong T shirts sold like hot cakes. I think they're telling you, I think obvious. Sure. It still has a few more like I don't think they do. Um sorry. So you were you found out about this. Last night. I was texting you, My, my, my. The guy I look to when it comes to bleeders. Yeah. Does that sound weird When it comes to say like, Hey, look at this wound. Yeah, when it comes to getting banged up. And and like, Why did you? I mean, what were you doing? I'll get to the story and how this happened in a little bit. But but I had a cut on my head. And it was it happened to the golf outing and I didn't want to be that guy. My wife was mad at me. Why? Because she's like you hurt your head. You get your head examined when you hurt your hat Did you have I'm not worried about the the gash in your head? I'm more worried about maybe a brain injury. Did you have any moment where you lost consciousness? So I guess I should tell the story to give context on all of this. So no to answer question? No, not even for a split second. Did you see black? Never? No, Never. I wasn't on the court. I was somewhere else. I wasn't when I know Please Black. So you don't have you back to black and you didn't have any moment where you felt like you were, you know. Like you get dinged. Right? So I joined the club now, right? I joined the Carlos Boozer tripping over the bag club I joined the Jeff can Washing his motorcycle line that was a motorcycle, the TV Bumgardner interview, then that's even that's even more manly than what I'm going to tell you about how I suffered this injury. It's Sammy Sosa. Throwing out his backs. Amazing. Yeah. You know what? I can see how that I always thought that that was a weird thing. But you get older and you sneeze and you sneeze hard and you, you know, walk away with, you know some rib cartilage. That's pulled or torn basket. Yeah, no, that's that. That's that far fetched for me anymore. So, look, it's it's been at. You know me. I don't golf to begin with my job yesterday for a great crew. It's Dr Schaefer's son, right? Steve Schaefer. Steve Schaefer. Schaefer was the or the orthopedic doctor for the Bears while I was there was a dear friend passed away. I want to say almost was a year and a half two years ago. Yes, and so his He his dad 10 years. I believe with the Bears and 30 years as the Cubs orthopedic surgeon, Correct? Yes. So so that's what he was a great man. So he bid on to raise more money for a live rescue since I don't call He bit on having me caddy for them for three holes? Yes, I didn't have to carry the bag or anything like that. I was just basically walking around shooting the breeze with them. I tend to the pen, Did you finally I said, Yeah. You want it in or out? You know, when they were chipping from the rough, you want a name? You want to stick? Or do you want? You want it out? What do you want? What you say? Phrasing. It's all for both of those wrong. I mean, look, anything I say is going to be I just laid out as usual. I just showed up for lunch to get that out of there, raising raising So, so I'm caddying for him. All right, And I'm wrapping up the third hole. And then my duty was to to just socialized with all the the other foursomes. I had my own car. I was driving around the golf course. We just wrapped up number nine. And I got in on the passenger side of the golf cart. No one else was in there. And I was the hard slide in duck, right or the duck and slide. That was probably the reason why I slid first. And so you know you it had a roof. And it has this new little contraption to. I guess Carmen was telling me for the phones. I guess there's like a pointy edge where you store your phones on the roof of the golf cart. There's also like this golf cart. Rail. Where, like when you're you know you're riding in the golf cart in your hanging on on each side of the roof, So I ducked. And of course, I didn't clear it. I didn't clear it. Which is amazing, because you're not exactly an extra tall guy. No, no, I mean, like, really like, how much does it take? It's been a year and a half. Since I've been out in events. We've all been missing all these things. And now all of a sudden, I don't know how the hell to get into a golf cart. And as I go and ducked the head and do the underneath slide, my head went right up against this. And eight for 30. Seconds. Oh, minute. It hurt like a you know what? But of course, all I wanted to know is Did anyone see that? Anyone see that you were worried about what people thought No one dealing with and and Steve was ahead of me. Never saw it. I saw him motoring away in his golf cart or at least he, you know. Acted like he didn't say no one else was around me. And I'm like, Oh, that hurt it hurt for that first minute and then I was sort of fine. Didn't black out. Didn't see stars, no concussion, but I felt I felt to the top of my head and there was blood. But it wasn't gushing because you the amount of product two years there was no chance to blood could clear through the gel in your hair. So the wound was plugged by pomade. Is that what you're suggesting? No doubt Pomade? Yes. What do you do like when you were a kid and you cut your finger? You something you would put bastard tracing on. And if not, you put Vaseline on it That would make the the blood stops. So I went to the bathroom. I took like some paper towels. I press down. You know the hard pressure and there was quite a bit of blood wasn't gushing blood, though, and like, look It's been a year and a half. I'm not going to start bitching about my head. We got the whole damn golf. It's two in the afternoon. Your warrior. We were there to like 8 15 and I wasn't in much pain after the first minute went away, no headache, no nothing And it wasn't gushing. So I threw out a half and the rest of the day and I really didn't think much about it. The rest of if you were trying to hide the wound, and it's ahead, one so you're it's on the top of your head. You're not going to be able to see it. There was no way for you to diagnose. No, the fact that you needed a procedure And as we know now I have pretty good hair. Yes. So like the hair is covering up the wound, So okay, there's a little blood..

Because they got too much and they drink. You know water that had You know, like horse manure in it? I don't know. I have no idea. Show West sticking around the clock behind the plate for this game tonight, Or is he just gonna be one of the bases Do we know I don't know. But he seems. I mean, I don't know him, but he seems totally full of himself. I mean, when I when I say that I'm watching me the day I think it was he doing one of the game from the Giants from Pittsburgh, Maybe. Anyway, I believe you or was Cincinnati my been since today, But most of the show is signing autographs. I saw that. Yeah, he's signing the autographs. He's not looking at the kid. He's not even looking at the paper. He's just like, you know, it was like like like he's Joe DiMaggio. And it's 1940 or something. It's like it's crazy. I mean, Seriously. You're no empire. You know. I mean, you can't look the kid in the face. I mean, is it that humdrum? Is it that you know, you know, route you know, Monday night? This point they somebody asking if your signature came in looking on the face of Jesus. I couldn't believe how he seemed to kind of brushing. He was signing their autographs. So that's good. But okay, what? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. That That is the thing we're missing. He's signing autographs in the middle of a game and umpire. I saw Sonny autographs for your child. So fish do I do to help the West was because there's no young child out there that is a fan of umpires. Okay, They just don't work that way. So his parents more likely his grandparent's put him up to that. Let's get that out of the way first. Now that we have that established, it is weird that an umpire is signing autographs. Even if that empire is Joe West, and I guess the fact that It is Joe West makes it weirder. Come on, man. It is seriously It's like the old you're not the show. But then you're signing autographs is kind of seems like a contradiction. But I think to be an empire, though you do. You have to have some. I'm a pretty cool guy inside of you. You have to be very confident in yourself and almost arrogant because you are even know the best umpires like the best referees. Are the ones you don't talk about. You still know, especially when you're behind the plate. You're that dude. That most people's eyes are are either on you or play only notice. If you screw up. You're getting your NFL cornerback with the best ones, right? Or the worst ones I get guess we screw up, they notice you, but there's still a measure of I'm the dude in charge, and you have to have a certain what's the best way to put it? You have to have a certain belief in yourself as a human being to want to do that job of when I'm behind the plate. I'm the guy in charge and doesn't Joe West seem like the type of guy that really enjoys being the guy in charge? Of course he does, Which is why he's 75 years old, and he's about to break a record that's been around for eight decades as he's gonna empire his 5376 games. Of course, he likes people knowing who he is, Which is why they let him cook and put out that horrible country music record. Yeah, that was bad, Um, one of the greatest stare downs of all time. Is him and Bumgardner. I mean, just just for the length because when you play the highlight, you're like, really, really. They're still and then Bumgarner just so stubborn. Joe West, so stubborn. They didn't want to. They don't want to admit it. But those guys have the same damn guy just separated by a few generations and they're just staring at each other. I was beautiful, Just beautiful. And you know what? I was gonna give him. Do we know who gave him first there? I have to go back. Okay? That's a very good question. I'm not sure I'm going ahead. I think you're saying go lose knows no staring contest. Joe West, they go lose. No, I'm to do that's in charge here contest that fuels that man's life and has for the entirety of His his adult life. Joe West will be behind the plate tonight T o to break that record, hey, will break the record of Hall of Fame Empire, Bill Klim and again. This is a record that has stood for 80 years. Wow. What Jo Jo go, but that that measure of longevity doing that job. There's something to be said for that. However, um it's good gig, by the way, if you like I do enjoy giving him Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, I'm sure he's been quite well compensated. To what to do that job, But hey, man, He's the cat in charge so good for him. Just don't put out another record. Joe. Please seriously another record more vanilla ice. Maybe they could tour together. Oh, just maybe ill. Oh, man. What if it was up for what? What would you do if your favorite band The concert. You're most looking forward to announce tomorrow that Joe West was gonna open for you Just spend more time in the parking on pre partying. So West opened up or I wouldn't go to that show. I can't. I can't be a part of that. I want to go to this show, but I got a dilemma. What is it? Well, Joe West will be doing the opening. Gonna open for what? Yeah. You know what? I'd go? I'd go at heckle me. I don't understand. You will be out and home cannot harbor stakes. You terrible, awful. Hard. You don't say all your heckling is.

"But I was going to say to you bill the first six weeks of the season and I where I ended it with Mike there. I think we're looking at a heck of a nationally grace just about in every division. I agree with you when you were talking about National League East. I really didn't look at the standings until then, and it's 2.5 games from first the last, so it really hasn't opened up anywhere in the East and And, of course, the NL West giant sir just slowly opening up the door against the Padres and Dodgers, and, you know Arizona was playing really well and then he went to Miami and got swept there. Any other on Bumgardner has definitely coming back. He's got a good cutter. Now. His sliders got a little more break to it, and he's thrown. What 45 straight. Good start, so I'm sure they're happy with it now. Or the big signing, but it's finally breaking through or Madison started get comfortable back on the mound and the Cardinals, Flaherty's six You know, Kim is pitching a little better now, um And they've got the Carlos Martinez, who said the tsunami is coming. You said he's getting it together, he goes today. Cardinals. Maybe there's the strongest looking team of the whole crowd other than the Giants. Everyone I put the Giants in the Cardinals is the two strongest teams right now in the National League. Yeah, I really thought the Brewers were getting going there, too. They were playing good baseball. Now they've lost six in a row, and I thought that team was really going to come around. But you never know the Cubs or so so. How about Matt Duffy the other day beat? The Dodgers loved watching that that was a fun game and went extra innings and it was exciting in Chicago. Yeah, it's good stuff. Good stuff. I love this to look all around baseball. As I said, it's so early April, May you're just trying to see where you are. But I'm telling you, it's 2010. I feel it. Starting pitching is dominating for the Giants. The league has now changed back in 2010. It wasn't a steroid league anymore. All of a sudden the pitching took over and the starting pitching is taking over the starting pitching is taking over there going deeper into the games and the Giants have it now. Can it last for 1 62, who knows? But that's what the formula was in 2010. Bill. Who do you have coming up? Bob Scanlan. Uh, he's a field reporter with the Padres knowledge on the pitching side and bringing him in next Talk pitching about the Padres tonight on extra innings. I had a nice conversation with Kai Correa this week talking about the defense of the Giants, and how stellar they've been, and we're gonna honor Willie Mays, Seymour. The postgame show with John Shea. So that's all coming up, but Bob Scanlan up next. Perfect. Okay, we'll take a break. Bill. Come back with Bob Scanlan. "And he was just shooting right through the Yeah, You know, there's that reminds me of another story from my college bowling teacher. Well, I didn't I held back on my fifth grade science story. But you know if it's story time, I must have been a natural. I never needed a bowling teacher. Well, You had to take a class, physic class and bowling counted, so I thought that sounds pretty easy. And it was yes, but the college bowling instructor told the story about when we put the bowling balls away. Where we tossing him. Or was he telling us not to talk, so I don't remember. He claimed He had a story of somebody who tossed the ball to somebody wasn't looking and it caved in their face. Yes, and I and I tragic could throw in a bowling ball this moment. I wonder if that ever actually happened? No more. Ours. Play caved in his old face. I don't know It's quite the velocity on Lex Street. Did he throw it overhand, Although bowling Ball would do damage, no doubt There's positive show is my lights up the room. Are you show doing quite well. Yesterday? Something happened in Major League baseball. That has not happened since 1921 when Babe Ruth did it. And that is a starting pitcher who is also leading the league in home runs. Shohei Otani took the mound yesterday. Seven home runs took them out. I don't believe I think they know I think they want us to, actually, that is something, but I wanted to bring up this other thing that the baseball nerds have been arguing about for days Now there was a complete game no hitter thrown by current Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgardner. But as part of the new double header rules, the game was only seven innings long. He pitched for the whole thing. But because of baseball's rules, it will not officially go into the record books as a complete game. No hitter. I'll bet he really wishes that he played the other two innings, dealing So it's like a gay Met it Z little appetizer. Exactly. It's sort of a game, fellas. Now we're gonna play sort of a game. That's weird. What sport has that? But nobody was more unhappy about that in him. Um, what was the NFL? Gonna announce a got a lot of injuries, So let's play 45 minutes. Let's play three quarters this Sunday and none of the stats count. I mean, they'd be hooted out of the You know the stadium, right? I'm Jack Armstrong. He's Joe Getty. Diamondbacks' Madison Bumgarner secretly competes in rodeo events
"Arizona Diamondbacks left hander Madison Bumgarner has been competing in rodeo events under the alias Mason's Saunders and even one of twenty six thousand five hundred sixty dollars and a team roping competition in December according to a story published Sunday by the athletic Bumgardner was told I told the website that he has discreetly competed in rodeos for awhile including in March of last year two days before pitching for the San Francisco Giants in a cactus league spring training game he's been roping since he was fifteen or sixteen and said he's been added so long that quote it's just part of who you are he's the twenty fourteen World Series MVP if he agreed to an eighty five million dollar five year contract with the Diamondbacks this past December and I'm sorry Courtney if I was the diamond backs I wouldn't be thrilled to find out that my ace left hander yes competing in rodeos in the offseason this is the same guy who got injured on a dirt bike do not remember that when he was with the giants and that was a serious injury that put him out for a very long time no wonder he was performing I guess you want to call that under a pseudonym or a fake name because had you found out about this the Diamondbacks might not have spent eighty eighty five million dollar a gigantic sum over a five year contract on this guy I mean it doesn't make any sense like I understand the thrill of competition and this is who we is but these risky things every sport has stuff like this written into players contracts that you cannot do I mean I always go back to when it when he got hurt in San Francisco a few years ago do you remember the month Taylor's thing when he was with the warriors he fell off the scooter when he went back to Mississippi for the offseason S. lied about it yeah that was a story that came to mind and I feel like any time something like this it comes to the light I'm not one of these people is like all the cool funny look how cute of the story is I'm like what is he thinking like you get injured and made these you know these are animals eat these things have a mind of their own they're powerful they're strong and certainly he's you know well conditioned and knows how to be around horses but you know that to me is way too big of a risk if I'm a professional athlete you know the prime of my career to take but you know he's done it before and that he is you know we don't really get that much of outside having serious injuries at receiver big penalty from the team for you know the motorbike thing according to have the details how did he come up with the alias of Mason's Saunders instead of going with you know his own name Madison Bumgarner sell it this came from directly from the athletic article that broke the story said quote if you competed as Madison Bumgarner every phone camera in the area that would have been trained on him he said so he devised Mason Saunders the surname is the maiden name of his wife Allie Mason is a shortened version for Madison and it's something allegedly his wife called him out in public so people don't recognize them so very clever I'll give him that but I don't think the whole thing is a buzz saw her story totally bizarre and the other thing is you know if this was an NBA player everybody would recognize them already because NBA players are actually recognizable it just goes to show you how anonymous baseball players are that the most clutch postseason pitcher maybe of all time can compete in rodeos and nappy racket I think what I know it's wild lake in the in the fact is here like he continues to go what do these very risky things it just doesn't seem to care yeah if you get caught I mean there's the photo in that athletic article where he's smiling and you know he's with I guess that it's a two person thing that team roping so I hope twenty six thousand dollars I hope that Madison Bumgarner did not keep that for myself given the gigantic contract he just signed in December the but yeah he looks he's not there we is in this picture I mean I just think it's hilarious how almost incognito so many baseball players can live their lives in that matter just because they blend in because they're not these gigantic athletes by and large I mean they're not six eight or you know they don't think Shaquille o'neal out there everybody would be able to tell if you're you know for the most part with NBA athletes I just don't understand why when you have hit the genetic lottery anyway to be able to throw the ball a hundred miles an hour the end and to be able to make eighty six million dollars really it's more than that doing this why you would ever risk your body or put like what your fans in your organization is rooting for on the line so recklessly and you pointed out he already ruined the giants season aired my fantasy baseball season which is far more important Courtney by falling off of that dirt bike a couple years ago and here he is I guess he says I'm just going to live my life and Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen told the athletic that quote he was not going to get into discussing specific contract language but you pointed this out that we know the player contracts have I can't imagine that the Diamondbacks are cool with their ace pitcher also being a rodeo road being a cowboy literally let alone they don't want to be a Dallas cowboy let alone in being a literal cowboy well I just remember a couple years ago at the end I felt combine whistle and was talking to Mike Zimmer about you know the quarterback situation at that point he had said that Sam Bradford had a degenerative knee I come to find out later that offseason I was speaking with Kyle Rudolph who said that he went skiing with Sam Bradford that off season right around the time of the combine so I'm thinking to myself you are here you are a health concern and you're going skiing or you could very easily risk tearing your ACL for a third time and you already had your season cut short because of injury like I wonder if these guys just do it for the thrill or maybe they just don't care because they have ungodly amounts of money to begin with if they feel like they can the kind of invincible they can do whatever they want but you do wonder like this has to be in contract language if you cannot do things like this because we know across sports there's certain things you're just not able to do I it's a liability reasons you ever been to a rodeo Courtney I half I went Mississippi when I work down there the show but county fair rodeo I've been to the Cheyenne frontier days shout out if you're listening in Cheyenne Wyoming on the ESPN radio affiliate there I gotta tell you it's oddly it is oddly entertaining but the the thrill of it is almost that you think that the that the ball right is just going to charge and block these cowboys into next year it is one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen and I never in my life once thought you know what it be cool to jump in there with these bowls and try to try this on for for my but how do you even practice you know you kind of just have to get in there and and take it on right yeah I guess I guess so what I mean I've seen the photos of Madison Bumgarner I'd taken the horse around the warning track at AT&T park when he was still a giant I just think that that's who he is this is got this guy is a country bumpkin at heart from North Carolina and I I just think that he grew up this way and it's always gonna be a part of him so he feels like Hey I'm an able bodied individual and I also have more money than anybody at this rodeo thing I'm gonna do what I want and it's somebody else take issue with it I'm sure they actually would found out about it right now well look I know why it's so good in the clutch in game seven of the World Series because if that that's nothing compared to facing down the eyes of a bull
