A highlight from Legend
"And welcome back to cinema vino. We've got a two man game going. It's me and Sean Jordan. Just one little handshake over here. Coming at you. We're like a garage band, two members just coming at you with some hard rock. Tenacious D. Yeah, exactly. Or the black keys, the white stripes. Yeah. Yeah. Both of those. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Summer Chaos is now, this is the home stretch. Mine Meg. If this is the white stripes. Yeah. I think you're going to have to be. All right. Yeah. You're holding down, you're playing. Lying down the ones and the twos. Yeah. You're playing the quarter notes. That's about it. Yup. No fills. Which is how I like my drums anyway. She made the notes in the vamp up to the chorus. A little bit. That was one of the first songs I learned. There was a little bit of flavor. It was like a rice cake with a little bit of salt on it. Not a lot of salt, but a little bit of salt. Yup. So, this is a penultimate episode of Summer of Chaos. We're going to talk about legend. No, it's not penultimate. We've got this and then we've got Battle Royale. Oh, and then Dread. You're right. Dread. So, this is. And Robocop. This is penultimate to the penultimate. Yeah. Penultimate recording. And then I think Robocop's a gap. It's just kind of in between. Right. We just toss it in just because it sounds. Gap here. Yeah. Just a little bit of something to fill in. It's like a caulk that we used in between some tiles. Don't like that. But that's the metaphor I went for and there you go. It's a grout, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah. Drinking that imagery, won't you? So, we're going to talk about legend with Tom Cruise and we're drinking some white board dough. For those of you who are coming in late to this series, basically, we do a random wheel. We spin a wheel. We put a bunch of varietals on the wheel and also like beer and cocktails. Whatever the wheel picks, that's what we do for the Summer of Chaos. These movies were all picked out at random. We put random movies in the hat, drew them out. So, pretty much anything goes for this entire summer. And so, same thing with wine. Anything goes. So, for this one, we got white Bordeaux. This is Chateau La Fresnel. This is a 2022 white Bordeaux. Little bit of background for those who may not know. We were actually talking about this before the podcast that Bordeaux is now known as a red wine region. But up until about 50, 60 years ago, it was a white wine region. It was known for its white grapes. Bordeaux are going to be... White Bordeaux are primarily Sauvignon Blanc with some Simeon and some Muscadel. There's a few other grapes they mix in there, but those are the main three that you're going to see. Then they're mainly Sauvignon Blancs. Is this kind of like how like the Republican Party and the Democratic Party kind of switched identities somewhere in the like 40s, 50s? Around the New Deal? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Basically. Now, it's like five, six to one red wines to white. It used to be the opposite. You'll also see a type of wine made from these same grapes called a Sauternes, which is going to be... It's made completely differently. It's going to be a lot sweeter, a lot more sugary. Those are very fancy, high -end, expensive white wines. So, basically, just from the price tag alone, you'll never confuse a Sauternes with a white Bordeaux. These are going to be more affordable, you know, $15, $20 range. Not super sweet. It's a little more tart, a little peachy? Dry. And the first thing I think of is Sauvignon Blanc. And these will have some characteristics of the same characteristics of other Sauvignon Blancs in the world. They're going to be a little bit grassy, a little bit citrusy, grapefruity. They're going to have some of those same kind of flavors to them. The main thing that's going to distinguish these wines is going to be... I've heard it referred to as minerality. I've heard it referred to as wet concrete. I've heard it referred to as chalk. Tasty. Yeah, limestone. But kind of that dry, refreshing edge that you don't necessarily find in other parts of the world. Kind of like what brings the harshness of mineral water versus the softness of tap. Yeah, exactly. That's a good way to put that. Yeah. It's got like a bite to it. It's got kind of like a... Little edge. Yeah. And you don't find that... Like for example, New Zealand's often been known as grapefruit bombs. Big fruit bombs. And you don't see that as much. This is my favorite region for Sauvignon Blanc. They're balanced. That's why I love French wines in general. They don't go out of the way in any one direction. They're nice and balanced. And so it's great for that. This one has that nice... It's got some grassiness to it. It's got some fruit. But it's dry. And so this would be great. I mean, people say seafood. I'm not a big seafood fan, but kind of a lighter seafood meal is perfect for that. You're not a big seafood fan? Not a big seafood fan. Period? Not really. Shrimp? I mean, I don't mind shrimp. It's not my first thing I go to. Lobster. Yeah, same. Bass. Catfish. I don't mind catfish. I've had some catfish. That's garbage. Catfish is garbage. But I remember when we went to Barcelona, we took a cooking class. It was on our honeymoon. My wife and I, we did a... It was all seafood. We had some paella. We made some paella. We did octopus. We did squid. I mean, we tried the gamut of seafood stuff that they had in the Mediterranean. It was like... That was a good indication. It's like, I don't like this. This is not for me. Yeah, not my taste. It's fair. It's fair. But I will say that we did a wine kind of similar to this, a Spanish white. And yeah, this would be perfect with a wide variety of seafood. Some of the stuff that's bigger and more buttery, you might want to go for a white burgundy, like a chard. But this is a good hot weather, outdoor type of wine. It's nice and refreshing. I like it a lot. Yeah, 25 bucks, not a whole lot of money. But yeah, any good wine store, you should be able to find a nice white Bordeaux section. So look for those while the weather's still warm. But now, legend. Talk about this movie a bit. This was released in the United States April 18th, 1986. So... You say in the United States. Where did it come out before? It was released in Europe the year before. This had a very difficult production. This was a difficult movie to realize. It has a lot going on. So this grossed worldwide $23 million against a $25 million budget. In 86? That's a big budget. Huge. And for several reasons. A big reason for that is that when they started filming, a fire broke out and burned down the 007 studios where they were filming at Leaves in England. So pretty much had to build new sets. That's probably all the magic. Exactly. Yeah, some of the Sprite costumes caught fire. Or the unicorn hair. I can imagine, yeah. It's one wrong look, that unicorn horn. Yeah, it's gone. But they had to build new sets. And Ridley Scott's original cut of the movie ran for between two and a half, three hours. So... Jeez. And the final cut was like, what, hour and a half? Yeah. The version that I watched, I don't know if you saw the original 89 -minute version or if you watched the director's cut. I think I watched the 89 version. Okay, I looked around. I had trouble finding it. That's the version I know the best, so I went back to that one. The director's cut? No, the original. Oh, the original. Yeah. There's a director's cut out there. Is it like two to three hours? No. So basically, when the final cut of this print was released, Ridley Scott watched this cut and freaked out and thought that basically American audience couldn't grasp this much plot. And so he cut the film basically in half, down to 89 minutes. And when it came out, it got mediocre reviews. Obviously, he didn't do well at the box office. He just watered it down too much? Yeah. Gene Siskel put this as one of his worst movies of that year. And the international cut that came out the year before was 93 minutes. And it got a little bit better reviews, but still not great. And then in 2002, somebody found a full work print of the movie in a can somewhere. And so they took that out and restored it, remastered it, and really Scott added about 25 minutes to the cut that the director's cut. So it comes in at like 115 minutes, give or take. And he and Tom Cruise have gone on the record saying that's the version to see. I was going to say, I was reading that Tom Cruise saw the movie in theaters and was like, that's not the movie we filmed. Yeah. That's not it. I mean, you could imagine with that much cut out, it's going to be almost incoherent. It's like a whole other act. Yeah. Yeah. And so basically, the director's cut, yeah, it's a whole other fleshed out thing. And I have seen that once. I saw it when it came out. I think I've got that on DVD somewhere. And the one thing I would say is it does, it adds a few scenes. It makes the motivations a little bit deeper, especially for the character of the darkness and his relationship with the princess, Lily, and the stuff there. It's kind of just, not to cut to the chase, but it just kind of comes out of nowhere. He's just like obsessed with her. He's just like, oh, I must have her. It feels very rushed. It feels like a plot of necessity, not like a plot of, you know, any reason. They're just like, we need to stall him. How do we do it? Love interest. Yeah. And it's like, it's like I'm telling a story to my three -year -old and it's like, I got to kind of get something else in here. You got to kind of yada, yada, yada over motivations. We're coming in for a landing too quick. We got to just shoot. Pull up. Yeah. But so basically, this is a fairly straightforward fantasy story. Tom Cruise plays Jack, who is a protector of the forest. I was a little vague on what exactly he is. Is he a bard? Is he a ranger? I mean, he'd be more druid than anything. Is he a druid? Yeah, I couldn't place what he was supposed to be. It's like, this is where we need Travis. Yeah, he would be. And if Travis had an answer to that, I would be impressed. Because to me, they don't spell that out at all. I guess he would be more of a ranger. Yeah. Because he didn't really have any sort of like shape -shifting ability or had any ability to talk with trees. Really, his only thing was he had like one -on -one connection with the sprites, right? That's about it. Yeah, he had good buddies. A working relationship. And he wore a loincloth. Yes. So there was that. Dude, he was showing that thing off. He was. And that's what I, you know, in that situation, it's like, check out my hairless legs. My supine body. Yeah, check out these smooth legs. But, so Mia Sarah plays Lily. Now, this is her starring debut. Next year, she would go on to play in Ferris Bueller, amongst other things. Her hair when she transforms into a dark version. Awesome. Now, this great production value is great. Everything, costumes, hair. For 25 million, it better be. Yeah. Yeah. And those are real unicorns. Yeah, they better be. Yeah, I mean, now it's like, that'd be 100 million plus to make this thing. Easy. Easy. Easy. So yeah, Lord of Darkness, played by Tim Curry, who is unrecognizable in the mountain of makeup. Honestly, but might be one of my favorite representations of the devil. Yeah. Like, this makeup job is incredible. And in theory, we'll get to this later, that should be great casting to have Tim Curry. Yeah. I almost want to see more of Tim Curry in the face. Like, see more of him, you know. Almost, you know, Faustian devil and Daniel Webster kind of thing, where it's like, you can see like him being rascally or whatever. But yeah, so Lord of Darkness seeks to cover the world in darkness. Plot out the sun. Conveniently, yeah. Typical plot device. For that, he needs the horn of a unicorn, which is the most sacred and majestic of all fantastic creatures. Basically, he wants to take the unicorns out of the world, take the horns out of the world, and the world. The representation of purity. The horn of the unicorn. Yes. The world goes dark. Everything turns into kind of a barren, frigid tundra of darkness. He just has goblins that work for him inexplicably? Yeah, incompetent goblins. Yeah. It's nice. But they rhyme. They talk in riddles. They do. They do rhyme. But you know, he kind of has the James Bond villain of incompetent people working under him, you know. If anything, that's the thing that slows him down as much as, you know, these James Bond villains. Like, you hired a bunch of idiots. He also has, like, the Bond villain thing of, like, doing a lot of monologuing? Yes. Let me vamp for five minutes while you prepare your thing to destroy me. Yeah, let's me blather.

Yeah That was good movie mark Maverick with mel gibson and james goner who lu knows i'm in a deep dive with james goner everything james I bought the rockford files. So anyway, that was a good movie. I liked it. Yeah Like rockford over here, you know, david chase did rockford files and also soprano. Yeah. Yeah Rockford files when I was early I remember big pussy goes what am I rockford over here? Yeah. Yeah reference. Yeah. Am I right? True lie, excuse me true lies Yeah Arnold arnold and was that um, and um, jamie lee curtis. That was a good movie. Yeah Yeah, it's time. Yep. Um How about surviving the game? Oh, yeah, I remember that one. Was that the the human hunting or whatever iced tea iced tea rutger hauer? Um f mary abraham Anything with ice with uh rutger hauer is going to be tragic. Yeah, right. John c mc. John c mcginley Mark, uh, anybody's fool paul newman. Remember that movie That's one of my favorite movies. Yeah, that was a great movie. That's a great Bruce willis plays there. He's a great asshole. Yeah. Yeah, that's right. I forgot you ever seen it's gone. Uh, probably If paul newman did a run of kind of movies in the 90s where they weren't blockbusters, but they were good. No One of my favorite movies of all time legends of the fall Yeah, brad pitt anthony hopkins aden quinn julia roman like seeing brad the mclean brothers Right and wasn't the kid that was in saving private ryan. He played the translator wasn't in that Uh, yeah He was one of the brothers I think Yep, the mclean's right Is that that was that their name? Let me see three brothers and their father living in a remote wilderness in montana affected by betrayal history love nature and war Yeah That was the name. They were fly fishing father. Uh, the father was the guy on picket fences Remember the tv show picking fences. He played the the sheriff He was the father I believe in uh, i'm scared tom scarrett. Tom scarrett was the father. I believe yeah, okay Uh, what do you got mark? Uh Intersection with richard gear. He made a lot of shit movies in the 90s But they were fun to watch on video and I loved intersection. Yeah. Yeah, that was good. Oh, that's a river runs through it That's right. Thank you. Marie. Yeah Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah That's what I was thinking, you know, but legends of the falls is another it's still a good movie. Yeah Uh texas chainsaw massacre the next generation I never saw any of those. Oh, man And I saw the first one than the original one Drive-in theater. Yeah, crazy crazy movie There's a lot of movies in this there's a lot of movies in this 94. I did not Uh, my last one it's what I remember disclosure. Remember that with demi moore and michael douglas. Yeah Some good, uh love scenes in that movie Yeah, yeah Speed speed came out Yeah, yeah good movie actually, yeah And this was terrible wolf with jack nicholson Oh, I remember that For james spader weren't they dueling werewolves? Yeah, that's right. Yes Pretty bad pretty pretty awful. I I was expecting more out of that four weddings and a funeral came out Yep. Oh I got one didn't the robert de niro frankenstein come out that year Oh was it was that 90s kenneth branham director, yeah That was bad, uh, beverly hills cop three came out Really? I didn't know there was a third one. So this one came out in 94 and so I was Stationed in southern california and I was I I decided that a couple of us came out and uh Decided we were going to go into la and sign up for uh to be extras In the movies our tv shows just extras, right? Yeah, so We go down and we fill out the applications and we're standing in line. It's like a fucking cattle call, right? And there's a big glass window big long glass window when you see all these, you know, whoever's behind it and uh We're standing in line trying to guess hand in and I hear someone go. Hey. Hey you you and they point at me Come here come here I pull me out of line. I go up to the window and Like hey, uh, what size jacket are you wearing? I'm probably at the time i'm 48 or something and uh He goes, all right. Do you think uh Think you could play a cop. I said well pretty funny that I actually am one in the air force Gives me call this number so I call the number later on and I end up getting a role as an extra in er See you playing yeah playing A cop right there again, so I report to the studio and if you're an extra the year you're there all day Yeah, like you can't leave right or you're not going to get paid and you can get your shit signed So if you do x amount of extra work You can uh, you can and you pay a certain fee You can be eligible to apply to the screen actors guild and you can get speaking roles, right? Yeah so I go there and I can set up the police uniform and uh So because I I there's a couple stories in there, but uh, the flintstones came out in 94 right the movie and so there was this uh, I I learned because I did a couple I did er I did uh, Uh nypd blue I did a couple of like, you know and uh You start to see the same people. It's a whole subculture right extras So this black guy is kind of fat black guy big big guy He's walking by and some of the extras are like, ah Is john? John, that's john. John had a speaking pot in the flintstones This guy was like the fucking king of the extras He got a line huh and his line was lunch Ha That's he was the foreman at the quarry right but he had a speaking role and they were like, oh he had a speaking role right So don't play at one point at one point. Um We we it gets into the night time and i'm officer like mccarthy or something it says on the Thing but i'm just doing background work, right? So You get to talk and I have to fucking entertain myself at this point. So I start going around So when we got to this, it's like a an apartment building, but they're calling it like the hospital, right? so it's supposed to be filmed in front of the hospital and uh They have these tanks Like an oxygen tanks and all this shit around were you supposed to be outside the er in that parking area? And that was an apartment building. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah in la so, um I'm like, okay, and it's it's kind of talking So one of the one of the assistant directors the ad's comes over and they could be dicks sometimes and the guy's like, all right This is it. Nobody smokes over here. We got fuel. We got add tanks over here and this and that Nobody smells like talking to us like we're fucking dirt bags, right? so All right, he walks away 10 minutes later So and I I was kind of joking with the rest of the the extras Now i'm kind of just acting like officer mccarthy chicago pd, right? It's a true story. So this guy comes out. He's got this fucking long coat on Right like a fucking nice overcoat And he lights up a cigarette and he starts smoking the extras like he's smoking This guy's smoking Look at him. He can't be smoking So like i'm like, all right, i'll take care of this so I walk up to the dude right You know in uniform. I says Excuse me, sir. Officer mccarthy chicago pd You'll have to extinguish that cigarette. This is a no smoking zone. We have tanks over here, sir I swear to god And just fucking like with this like what the fuck right and he takes a second he puts it down he steps on it And just turns around and walks away Right, and so i'm like, all right. Thank you, sir, and he walks away And I go back over Like three minutes later. Someone says dude You know who that was? Like, I don't know who it's the executive producer of the show He had the 500 overcoat on Sure The dude looked at me like what the fuck Did they have real oxygen tanks? There was some sort of flammable things over there. I don't know what it was There was something flammable. They were like no smoking over here. You gotta tell me you were an extra I watched er religion. You gotta tell me what episodes you were in what episode it was It was around a christmas episode There was a christmas episode where I know they had christmas things in there Um, and I was in the diner like I was in the background in the diner and one scene it was it was kind of obscure you know, but uh Yeah, it's pretty funny I know someone who did a lot of background where like so if you watch seinfeld when they're in a restaurant They would do the people that said the table's talking i'm like, how do you do that? And they go you go like this Dude, I never right and they they dub it in they just you know, it's no it's with fake conversation It's mine, it's fake conversation So i've never ever watched a tv show or a movie the same again I'm, always looking at the extras because the thing is they want to be on camera, right? Yeah, and they're not supposed to look at the camera, right? They're not supposed to do any of it and you're supposed to just act normal But if the camera's panning by you'll always see somebody turn their head, right? Or they'll shift their body, you know, or they'll wave to somebody right always trying to get that air time. It's fucking hilarious So one time I was doing I was playing a street person on um Nypd blue so I had you know, the shaved head. They said come in come in with like like winter clothes, right? so I had this uh, this timbal and jacket nice timbal and jacket and uh, it was fucking like summertime in la but you know, you have to so We're standing around and the guy goes okay you and you and he takes this girl that's got a shaved head and he says uh Youtube youtube. All right, you're gonna team up and what you're gonna do is, you know walk across the street Right, that's what you're gonna do walk across just walk across the street So, all right, you know So the guy goes and what they do with nypd blue is they would shoot the same scene literally like six seven eight times Yeah, that's why you get all those different angles. It's like that quick cuts the different angles. Yeah Uh, so walking across the street and I just look over my shoulder and I look back And literally it's just like in the middle of the scene cut Cut extra don't look at the fucking camera Like they notice everything like big brothers watching They saw you break the four saw me fucking turn just look on my shoulder. Jesus christ So I gotta start all over again. All right, fuck the scene up They called you extra. Oh, yeah. Hey extra. Yeah, you because they don't know my name Listen, I was never an extra but my street where I lived in pearl river previously Tony, uh, tony soprano james scandolfini did a movie called don't not fade away. I don't know if you've ever seen it But they used that was it was about the rock band. Yeah, it was about the garage man So it was a david chase movie actually he directed but um, they used my street and they turned into 1970s So he's parked all these retro cars out And we were told like I got home and the apartment building like this said don't walk out to the sidewalk They don't want you to be on the sidewalk So we hung back and they had people walking up and down our sidewalk, you know in in 70s clothes and I was like trying to talk to them and they they would say things like you catch them every Three minutes they'd give you a quick answer like How long you've been doing this all day? Oh, yeah all day. Would you stop? No, we just keep walking. Uh, can't look at the key He said we can't look at the camera. No, I can't stop to talk to you Whatever and my son was asked to be an extra and he turned it down. I wish he had done it You know, but it was cool. Like I got to see the whole movie making thing Yeah, they turned all the stores right by my house in the 70s style store I was getting ready to go to work one night at midnight, right when I was in customs and My wife my first wife god rest her soul. She would wake up. She'd stay up until I went I left for work and uh, nypd blue comes on right And i'm getting changed and i'm just about to leave and I go oh and it was the episode I go baby This is there I am right there there I am and there I am again right there She got to see it. A highlight from The Death And Final Days Of Moses
"Welcome to the podcast of First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, Mississippi. To learn more about our church, our beliefs, and our pastor, please visit fpcgulfport .org. Outside of Jesus Christ, there is no one that has had more of an impact than the man we call Moses. Moses was used to deliver God's people, to bring them the law, and to build the tabernacle. However, in God's time, Moses died. In today's study of Deuteronomy 34, we'll consider the final days of this great man of God. Over the years, Moses had gone up mountains multiple times to meet with God. On a number of different occasions, Moses had ascended a mountain in order to meet with God there. The time we're most familiar with is when he received the Ten Commandments. In today's text, Moses would do what he had done multiple times before. He would go up the mountain, but this time, he would not return. This time, Moses would die upon the mountaintop. Now, what do you think the last thing that Moses saw was? What do you think the last thing he heard was? The last vision that we're going to see as we jump into today's study, the last vision that graced Moses' eyes, it was a look into the Promised Land. God had made promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and he renewed those promises across the years. Moses himself had looked forward to this great day, and here on the mountaintop, he beholds that which was promised centuries ago, he beholds the Promised Land. And he sees in that moment that the promises of God are not void, that God can and will do everything that he has said he would do. So Moses looks out, and as he looks out at the Promised Land, dear heavens, it's so much better than where he just came from. Moses had just come out of the wilderness. Moses had just spent 40 years wandering around with the people in the wilderness, and now he looks out and he sees the Promised Land, and it's every bit as good, every bit as great as God had told him. This is truly a land flowing with milk and honey. I don't know what that looks like, but it sounded pretty good, especially in contrast to the wilderness that they came out of. This is a land that was green. We see palm trees in here. This was lush. This was desirable. There was any manner of things about this land that was far superior than that which he had come. So Moses' life, in a sense, had been building to this moment. Moses' ministry had been building to this moment. At one point, God had commissioned Moses to deliver his people from bondage to Pharaoh, to deliver his people. Now, here's the thing. It's true of them, and it's true of us. When God delivers you from something, when God delivers you from one circumstance, he also delivers you to another. You understand that? When God delivers us from one thing, he delivers us to another thing. In the case of the Israelites, the wilderness was not the end game. God delivered them from Pharaoh, and they spent time in the wilderness. But ultimately, he was delivering them to the promised land. So this was the day, this was the moment, this was the time that Moses' entire life and ministry had been building towards. And it all culminated in his own eyes and his own ears as God whispered, This is the land. This is the land. So Moses saw this. Now, as we look at today's text, I want us to be encouraged. You and I too live in the wilderness. We might not recognize that at times, because at times it's fairly nice, at least here locally. And yet this is the wilderness, and God has trained our eyes just as he has trained Moses' eyes to look towards a promised land that awaits, and to have our entire trajectory, our entire life's course, to head towards that day and that location. So in today's text, on the one hand, we're seeing a story of one man beholding the promised land. On the other hand, today's text is a call for us to look forward to that day when we will behold an even greater promised land yet to come. All right, if you would, let's look now, verses one through four. We'll reread these verses and work our way through the balance. Verse one. Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab, which were no great shakes, the plains of Moab, to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is a cross from Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, which is up towards the north, all of Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, the south and the plains of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees as far as Zoar. Then the Lord said to him, this is the land. This is the land of which I swore, which I promised, which I covenanted with you, to give to Abraham, to Isaac and Jacob, saying, I will give it to your descendants. And I have caused you, caused you, Moses, to see it with your own eyes, but you shall not cross over there. All right, before I unpack these verses, I want us to recall that if you've read through the book of Deuteronomy, you'll see a few chapters earlier in chapter 31, that God had already told Moses what was about to go down. In other words, nothing that's happening here in chapter 34 is a surprise to Moses. He didn't go up to chapter 34 and all of a sudden realize that this was the end. God had told them way back in 31, also in Numbers, he had told them this is what's going to happen. This is the time frame. This is what to expect. So in chapter 31, God told Moses that the end is near and even told them when and where it was going to occur. But he said, go and get your house in order. And so Moses did and he offered all the people a series of blessings and of course a series of warnings as well. And of course he taught the individuals, he spoke to individuals about the things that they needed to do and the time to come and yet he blessed all of those that he had loved and led for all of these years. And when that was complete, when those actions were done, it was time to go up the mountain. And that final action, that ascending, is what we see in verses one through four. Now in verses one through four, the descriptions we have of going from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho, if you're a cartography sort of person, you understand that this meant he literally went to the tallest mountain range and to the tallest peak in that mountain range in order to look out. And from that vantage point, he beheld something he'd wanted to see really his entire life. He looked out and he saw it to the north and the east and the south and to the west, this landscape breathtaking which was greater than anything that he had expected into the distance of the land that God had promised. And as his old eyes took this in, as he took this in, as he filtered this experience, this sensory experience that he was seeing, he hears the word of God whisper to him and said, this is the land. Moses, this is the land. This is the land that I swore to Jacob. You know, there is something cool about those moments in life, however rare they may be, when faith becomes sight, when that which we have believed may be for decades only to find out that God, God has fulfilled it in our time and in our sight. For decades, Moses had been leading by faith. I mean, he'd been in the wilderness. That's all he really had to work with. He'd been leading by faith. Now God had blessed the people. He'd given them the quail and the man and all these different things. God had protected the people and put a hedge around them. Their sandals hadn't worn out despite being in the wilderness. God had protected the people and yet it was just a miserable time. It was miserable for Moses in particular because the people were grumbling all the time. Man alive, if you read anything that the people of Israel did during the book of Exodus or Deuteronomy, what you'll see is that this was a rebellious house. They grumbled and they complained. There was even a point when Moses basically said, God, kill me now because the people, they're just too much for me. I can't take this anymore. I can't take this anymore. So Moses had had this very difficult, very challenging time when he'd been out in the wilderness and yet at this moment, the faith that he'd had for decades, the faith he'd had across all these travels, the faith he'd had even as things were going miserable, the faith he had after day after day of things just being so difficult for him, the faith that he had had that God had sowed in his heart is fully realized and validated in this moment. Moses, this is the land. Everything you've done, all your ministry, it's paid off. You have done what I've asked you to do. You delivered the people from Egypt and you've delivered them to the door of the promised land. Moses had believed for decades that God could and would do exactly this. Moses had believed and had faith even when this world gave him faith, having a faith tested and even critiqued by others. They had critiqued him. They critiqued his faith. They critiqued his leadership. After all this time, he realized that everything God had told them had been true. That's exciting to think that there's a day for you too that'll come when your faith will become sight. There's things right now that you take by faith. Well, here's the good news. God's intention in his time is to validate every ounce of faith you have ever placed in him. There will become a time when faith will become sight just as it was for Moses. Now before we look at verses five through seven, I'll ask us, the promised land of Canaan, that no longer holds as much appeal to us per se. And yet Christ himself, Christ said, hey church, hey new covenant community, there is a promised land that's even better than that one. There's a promised land that awaits. And he introduced that promised land when he was talking to his disciples on the night he was betrayed. He gathers them close when they're anxious and he says, hey, let me tell you a little bit about that promised land. He said this, let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. In my father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am, there you may be also. Moses worked all his life toward the promised land and toward being the recipient of the promises that God had long made to his forefathers. Well, the promise that Jesus made to the disciples in the church is even greater and it's on our horizon as well. Let's look at verses five through seven. So Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth Peor, but no one knows his grave to this day. Moses was 120 years old when he died. And his eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished. There has never been, never, never, never, never been a man like Moses. Outside of Christ himself, who had the advantage of being fully God and fully man, outside of Jesus Christ, there's never been a man utilized on this entire planet to do the things that Moses did, to accomplish all that he accomplished. To the degree he's considered the great intercessor, the giver of the old covenant. He delivered God's people. He brought them the law. He helped construct the tabernacle. He led them to the promised land. This is one of the greatest profiles any leader could ever desire. And yet, interestingly, in verse five, he dies. What does that tell you? This is the most important man in the era of his day. In all of the cosmos, there was no man born of woman, no man of flesh and blood that was as critical, you could say, to the kingdom of God and to the working of God's purposes than Moses. And yet, in verse five, Moses died. What does that tell you? It tells me we're all replaceable. It tells me that we all minister for a season, however long that season may or may not be. It's a season. And in God's time, he will raise up others, like Joshua, to continue the work. And therefore, as he continues that work, the glory goes to God and not to man. Scripture refers to Moses as the servant of the Lord. Don't miss that. The greatest character in Moses' story is not Moses. It's God. In God's time, as wonderful and amazing and as just tremendous a human being as Moses was, in God's time, he called him home. Now, did he call him because he looked at Moses and said, oh, Moses, you're looking kinda creaky. Moses, I'm just feeling so bad for you. The arthritis is kicking in. You're just shuffling. Moses, let me do you a favor. Let me call you on back. Enter into your rest. Did you do that? Was Moses in that sort of condition? Well, at 120, I would think he would be, but interestingly, Scripture says that wasn't the case. Scripture says that his eyes had not grown dim. His natural vigor was not diminished. Moses was still at 120 years old at the powerhouse. I hope to be at 50, at 60. He was a powerhouse, and we know he was a powerhouse because he did something that I couldn't do and I don't think we all could do. He went up this mountain at 120 years old. We know that he was capable. We know he wasn't shuffling. We know he wasn't near death because he climbed a mountain in the very text we're looking at. This is a man that God didn't call home because he just couldn't bear to see him falling apart this way. He called him home. Because his time was done and his utility in the eyes of God was complete. That'll be true of us as well. There will come a time when God calls us home and rest assured, he will not do so until he is convinced that our utility, our kingdom utility is complete. Now, here's the thing. We might question that timing. We might say, I could do more. I'd grow more, experience more, what have you. And yet God knows what he's doing and he knew when it was time to call Moses. He knew the time to call Moses was different than the time to call McShane. He knew the time to call Moses was different than the time to call Aaron, which was much earlier. You and I, we have a challenge when it comes to mortality. You know one of the things that's developed and I think it's a 21st century North American sort of thing, the bucket list. You know, I looked across theologians and I said, surely this concept of a bucket list, surely a Turretin, surely Spurgeon, surely Calvin wrote about the bucket list, surely. Not so much. It's something we've developed because we have this idea that with the time we have, we should experience everything we possibly can and do everything we can. And I get that impulse. There's a lot of stuff I wanna do. I just mentioned Bob Ross and violins. There's things we all wanna do. And yet, in God's time, he will call us home. Moses never went water skiing. Moses never ate a chocolate bar. Some things we take for granted. Moses never had a po' boy. There was a lot Moses didn't do. But in God's time, when Moses' season was done, God called him home. And that's okay. We don't understand when God calls our loved ones home. We don't get it, we don't like it. And yet, if we look at what they've meant to us, if we look at how they poured their lives into our own, we rejoice that not only did we know them and experience those benefits then, but we continued to reap the benefits of having known them in the first place. There's the old saying that people don't really die, that they live within us. Well, in this sense, they do. The experiences we've had with them continue to infect and inform us in the most positive sense in the time they had to come. And as an aside, our reunion's not that far off. Our reunion's just around the corner. If we have faith, we'll soon have sight. All right, one last thought in verses five through seven before we look at verses eight through 12. One thing I do not want us to miss. So Moses, he dies. God calls him home. God says your utility is complete. Now enter into your rest. So God calls Moses home. Now with that said, Moses dies. I don't know if he's sitting, standing, what have you, but Moses, he's done. Now, who's up there with him? Anyone? Bueller? God is with him, right? So who buries Moses? God. Look at the text again. Look at verses five through seven. So Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab according to the word of the Lord. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth Peor, but no one knows his grave to this day. Do you see this? Moses dies, and then God cradles his body. God cradles his body and takes him to his rest. And he takes him to a place where no one will know where the grave site is because people can be weird about relics and the like and go rushing and touching and receiving the blessing. God says, no, no, no, we're not doing that. So God takes him, cradles his body, and he buries him in a location known only to God. There's no more tender picture, at least not many more tender pictures, that I can see with regards to everyone's passing than to see this. See this picture of God cradling the body of Moses. Doing him this service, even in death, to see that he is buried. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. This text bears witness to that. Let's look at verses eight through 12. Verse eight. And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab for 30 days. And so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses ended. Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him. And so the children of Israel heeded him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. But, but since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. And all the signs and wonders which the Lord had sent him to do in the land of Egypt before Pharaoh, before all his servants, and in all his land, by all that mighty power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. You know one of the cruelest ironies of that text? For 30 days they mourned and they grieved, and actually this is a customary thing. We don't know that they were actually mourning and grieving like right there on day 29 and then just stopped on day 30 or what have you. We don't know exactly how this works, but we know this much. While he was alive, the people didn't care for Moses. While he was alive, the people really, really went at Moses. They routinely rebelled and rejected and said who put you in charge? They routinely critiqued his decisions, they critiqued his leadership, they critiqued everything about him. They grumbled and they complained. As we said in Numbers 11, Moses even went to God and he says just take me home, take me home already. I've had my fill of these people. And yet, and yet here's the thing, no one in the camp, no one in the camp of Israel that day remembered a time without his leadership, without Moses being in charge. Moses had been a constant stabilizing force in their presence amidst all their difficulties. And now, now he's gone. That can be challenging for us when we lose those who mean so much to us. We have individuals who have been a constant stabilizing force for so long, they've meant so much to us and in God's time he takes them. And yet, even as God took Moses, even as he cradled his body into the grave, God was not unconcerned with what happened to the people. And so God had raised up for the people a means of leadership, specifically Joshua, who would be no slouch for what it's worth, who would be no slouch. Whatever the case is, even as the people wept, which is a little ironic because they didn't love Moses too much while he was with them, we see that even as they're weeping, God has prepared a new leader. In verse nine, we see that he's raised up Joshua. In his providence, God uses different human instrumentation to do his will. At a certain point, all of us will be called home to glory and God willing, God will have raised up other people, whether it's for this pulpit, for this church, or in Gulfport in the community around us. God is busy, as we've seen in the baptism this morning, building his kingdom and plugging and playing different individuals in at different times. Moses, my servant is dead, I'll raise up Joshua. There was still good news for the people, God had not left them even if Moses had. All right, with our remaining time this morning, I want to briefly reread the eulogy that we see in verses 10 through 12. We talked earlier about Moses with regards to who he was and the powerhouse he was and no one was like Moses. Let me read these verses because they're somewhat unique. God doesn't do this for every prophet or individual in his word. Verse 10 says this, but since then, since that time, there's not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face and all the signs and wonders which the Lord had sent him to do in the land of Egypt before Pharaoh, before all his servants and in all his land and by all that mighty power and all that great terror which Moses performed in the sight of Israel. All right, thinking question, who wrote Deuteronomy? Let me ask you a harder question. Who wrote those verses? we Ah, know that Moses wrote the Torah. What's the first book in the Torah? Genesis, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. We know Moses wrote these books. He celebrated as the author of these books. Moses wrote Deuteronomy and yet who wrote that? But since then, there's not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses whom the Lord knew face to face and then goes on to say about all that he did in the time of Pharaoh. Who wrote these words? Well, many, just as an aside, many believe that Joshua wrote these words. And the reason for that's twofold. Number one, Joshua was used to being Moses' assistant, for lack of a better word. He was used to basically being the guy, the number one, the Spock to his Kirk. He was used to being the guy who would come alongside and help and assist Moses across these years. And it makes some sense that Joshua was the one who wrote this passage given that he was eyewitness to this stuff. He would have certainly been the best, most qualified candidate to write it. Others believe that possibly Ezra, which is a unique thought, but Ezra or other prophets may have been the ones to record them. Well, regardless of who it was that wrote these words, this epitaph, this eulogy here at the end of this book, regardless of who it was that wrote them, we do believe that they're inspired and inerrant and infallible, and their message is this. Moses was one of a kind. The Israelites could not have asked for a better leader even if they didn't recognize it in the time that he was leading them. The Israelites could not have asked for a better intercessor on their behalf, a better deliverer. And yet, just as they would kill the prophets in the years thereafter, they routinely rejected and despised, just hated the very man that God had raised up to bless them. Now, over the centuries, the Israelites would come to see differently. It's funny how that works. Over the centuries, they would come to see differently. Over time, they would come to see Moses as the God -ordained instrument that he was, the great intercessor, the great deliverer, the mediator of the old covenant. In time, they would come to see it, and to prove that they would see it in time, in synagogues, in the synagogues of Christ's time. You know what there was, one of the features of the synagogues? There was a seat. You know what it was called? The seat of Moses, the seat of Moses. In the synagogues, even in Christ's time, they would talk about the seat of Moses, and the point is this, that over the years, they began to understand Moses in ways that they didn't at the time he was leading. They began to revere him. They began to revere him to the point of even in their synagogues, saying that the place, the seat where someone sits in order to read scripture from, the seat where the law is given, we'll call the seat of Moses. Now before I pray this morning, let me ask you, I think a very fascinating, very relevant question. It's actually a question that R .C. Sproul used to ask his students. Here's the question. This really is a thinking cap sort of question. Do you think Moses ever entered into the Promised Land? Now, I'm not using this as a euphemism. I'm not talking about heaven. I'm not talking about that final rest. I mean the literal Promised Land with the dirt and the soil in Canaan. Do you think that Moses ever entered into the Promised Land? Did the feet of Moses ever stand in Canaan? What do you think? All right, hearing both. All right, so here's the answer. Here's the answer. Do you remember in Matthew 17, the event that we call the Mount of Transfiguration, where Jesus Christ goes up a mountain. It's during his public ministry. He goes up this mountain. And when he gets to the top of the mountain, who does Jesus encounter there? Moses and Elijah. In the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus goes up and he encounters the two titanic men of Israel's history. Elijah, on the one hand, the greatest of the prophets. You could say he typified all of the prophets. But Jesus also encounters Moses there in Canaan on the Mount of Transfiguration, standing amongst him. I think it's kind of fascinating. I think it's awesome that God in Deuteronomy 34 allowed Moses to see the Promised Land just as he'd said. And he said he would die, and he did. And yet how good is God that all those centuries later Moses got to stand there? I think it's interesting to see how God fulfills his promises, sometimes in ways that we don't expect, and sometimes fulfills the desires of our hearts in ways that we don't expect. God had told Moses he would not lead the people in the Canaan. He told him he would die before ever setting foot there. But in time, he gave him the privilege to where stand his eyes once beheld. In God's time, Moses' faith became sight. And I like that that's true in Deuteronomy 34. I also like that it's true in Matthew 17. And I like that it's true of us. Whatever you're clinging to this day, whatever faith is sustaining you to wake up tomorrow and get back at it, whatever faith is sustaining you to go about your jobs, your vocation, your family life in the midst of all the reasons just to stay in bed, know this, your faith will be validated in God's time. There is a day when your faith will become sight. Let's pray. You don't hang around for 51 years left doing something right. Bucky's all the service centers does something right. Every Single time. All right, you go to a baseball game is my father always said you can see the optimist. You know, the optimists are those the guys they're going with The club's a zoo kid. It's like every year Glove is good. Maybe you're gonna maybe get a signature and autograph. If you could do that lean over the dugout, the good old days. On D Hand down your glove and then maybe get the thing back at batting practice or something or during the game to actually have your glove thinking. You know what? Where we're sitting. We might really get a foul ball. And wouldn't that be cool? It? Never. I went to a lot of Seattle pilot games that year when we had our first major league. It's I never cared about the foul balls. I never brought my admit. I'm surprised that such a thing, but apparently it still is, and now is the best year ever. To be able to catch the foul ball, and I'm happy for all the people that really care about that. And why is that? Because there's so few people there. You don't have the competition. I they say, just do the math. First off. Therefore, at a at a sold out game or Ah, big game, you get 40,000 people there. There are 40 balls like this. I didn't realize 40 balls a game on average are, you know thrown into the You know the foul, tipped and hit home runs and, you know So anyway, so 40 into 40,000. What are your odds versus now? They max out at like the Mariners. I think it's a 9000 Most Max out of 10,000. So you have 40 balls. They're only 10,000 people there if you know how to play. Where to the foul balls Go, You know, first around first base in and third baseman in the outfield, where they might go that you could. You could end up being very, You know, Lucky in quotes. In fact, I remember seeing on the sports. Uh, these sports shows within the last week. One guy. The outfield at some stadium actually had two balls. He dropped the first one. He was so crushing them 2 to 3. Innings later it came right back to him any any got at that time, But right now, this is the best time because even if you don't catch it, there's so many rows ahead of you that you don't have to fight for their. Maybe you may have, you know one person for every 10 seats. It's easy, even if that you don't catch the ball to go get the ball. They excite this one guy who plays for Detroit, so not only are there almost nobody understands it's also a lousy team. So because of that he got in one game. He got 11 baseballs that if such a lose its value, exactly says it was the least amount of work you've ever had, and the least amount of fun too, right? I took right to America's game and we went there early enough for batting practice. Right. We're gonna right field going out here and there was another couple of people there Some kids, this stuff and all and the ball bride grabs one. Oh, hey, right. And then the next time I get another one, and then finally there's like five of them around his around the floor,.

I think that show on this binged that i recently did has become like favorite shows like in my top twenty shows. It's just a fun series to watch. And i think it's very binge. They want to watch it again. They might crazy not at all not at all. So that's what i kinda realize about. This show is Although i wouldn't put it in my top ten sitcoms or or either i put in my top twenty. Yeah i i think it's a really good show. It surprised me. I absolutely started like caring about the characters. The finale was so good But but i did. The reason that you're mentioning. It's so enjoyable and so like easily consumed is one of the things that drove me crazy about it. There's very little Season archiving storylines or or Or changes from one episode to the other. That actually stick. I notice that there's a big little continuity from episode to episode other than the big story arc like if If if leonard say on in one episode something about like I'm going to get a haircut. The next episode no haircut has ever happened to think there's like it felt a little unbelievable indicative in the continuity aspect of it And i was like. Oh the kind of a little bit of annoyed me. 'cause there'd be some decisions that these characters would make that they're just be no follow through with so let me here. That is a sitcom tropes. That like i hate to because I love. Lucy is my favorite show of all time and does the same thing. The office doesn't do it as much but they do do it and show that i'm currently binging That i'll get into. Does it all the fucking time. so yeah. I think i think some of the things that i think the. Tv's the sitcom recipe as it matured. It got away from that. Big bang theory may have been one of the allow land sanding people's from that era. Yeah i liked it. I enjoyed it. I thought it was a really well done show. I was very very pleasantly surprised. I went into wanting to hate it. And i definitely snuck up on me. i also watch or rewatch rather Divergent part one. Yeah so stacey started reading the book gonna. I'm not gonna read the book. But i watched booty and the last thing i watched other than One division is. I watched minority minority. I liked it. It was really sweet. Man it was a little boy was amazing horrible. That kid is adorable. Yeah and same thing that you mentioned last week. That it's it's cool to see steven jahn being able to do stuff after a walking dead and And yeah i like that. I could see. I can see it being a a contender for for some more more awards. Later this season for sure For me i am on my. I'm on season four friends. So i feel like i'm what's happened so far so i'm gonna give you some Some quick tidbits. I think rawson. Rachel one of the worst tv couples of all time is hell. I don't know how anyone could sit here and really say that they're like that. Those are goals. Because i up to right now i Ross since remember this is my first time really watching everything through. I was thrown a curve ball. 'cause i'm making predictions as with jenny as we go along Ross is is getting married to a british chick. You're at that point. Okay so emily right. That's really yeah. Yeah so now. Rachel wants to be with ross and again and my head. I'm like no you don't you don't want him happy. That's that's what you don't want so they'll at the last episode. I just saw was a very much a filler episode. They just had a scenes of rachel and ross throughout the series so far. Because you're getting closer to the finale that makes sense. Yeah so in. Terms of like the show. As a whole. I i get it. Why so big with like people our age but i. It's it's a good show. I won't lie. You know i i don't i. Wouldn't you know the comparison to the office of all that stuff. I'm like you know out- outlandish to me. Billy the whole stuff that you know. I'm big fan. I can see. I like both of them equally the same like i. I like more characters on him. But friends freight chandler. Phoebe make the show so easy to watch for me like and you the joke that the thing you the comment you made before about things like just hanging around and storylines not going episode literally. There was an episode that i saw two days ago. Where chandler omega janice came back. Okay and chandler bought himself play ticket to yemen and then and then I asked jen. I'm like oh so do they continue to storyline. She's like i don't think so. And the next episode is home. I'm like that's trash. Yeah when one two three seven street yemen. That was funny. Chandler really is chandler fever like really really funny so yeah I watched that. I will say glenn friends the compared to him i choose him over friends just over. We watch ability like i can watch him over again. Like i've done every watched since it's over. I haven't watched friends since its original run and i don't plan on doing it I think oh pub. I could re watch it again but i don't think it's going to be anytime soon. I i think that For me him. I do for him. But they're both they're both solid. They both have their their They're good and bad I also saw the new big documentary. That's on netflix. oo i was. It's nothing we don't know. And that's my. That was my biggest worry. I'm like it's nothing. We don't know the only thing i like about this more than others is that they don't just fully concentrate on his death. They only talk about it for like a few minutes but it's mostly on his career and his life which is a nice touch it you know. I recommend it. But you're not getting anything you we did. no glorious nine like notorious myth but as a documentary. Like it. But i i do. I do like the tories I also went on a kevin smith. Binge and i saw clerks is still great. Mallrats played better. This time chasing. Amy still masterpiece. I think chasing amy as perfection Dogmas watching glad you mentioned chasing. Amy watching reboot. It makes me want them to actually do that chasing amy. We do that. Fumble woman's perspective or something dogma. Still great strike back is still fantastic. Clerks to just always drops. Every time. I watch it. There's stuff in clicks you. That doesn't work for me And they're reboot is phenomenal. I also saw. I saw chaos walking the utah hall and law. Yeah.

Pandemic playoffs: Brewers, Astros in despite losing records
"When you woke up on Sunday morning none of the eight matchups were said I. think that's kind of cool that would be like the the final day of the regular season Lebron Yeah I don't even know who we're playing. That's what it was for every single team yesterday in Major League Baseball your dodgers are going to play the brewers who got in yesterday with the first losing record granted at sixty. Games with the first losing record for a team in the history of the Major League Baseball Playoffs there were twenty nine and thirty one opening round best of three all in the same ballpark what are your thoughts and we couldn't lose I mean you know it. Likely not, but we could because his only three games all they got to do is win two of them, right? So baseball is so weird dodgers obviously you mentioned we got him at home dodger stadium. I don't think that you know I'm sure we're going to roll out Walker Bueller in Kershaw and we're going to do what we need to do to get to the next round But you could lose you know teams could lose you know the beginning of the year, the dodgers and the Yankees were pretty much the favorites to to get to the thing. In the end, but then the pandemic happened then we had to do all of the rescheduling and figure out how many games that went on for so long how many games should they play the only WanNa play this amount, the players, WanNa, play that amount it became a money issue, and now we finally have gotten to the point where October will be playoff baseball. Speaking out, let's go through a couple of interesting storylines after this round by the way, then everything is going to be played at trial sites and eventually the world series will be played at the home of the Texas Rangers and they'll wrap that no. Later than October twenty eighth, they want to avoid the second third. So homefield everybody early, and then we're going to neutral sites, Los Angeles San Diego. Texas and Houston quick thoughts the Yankees of the five seat in the AL, the five seat, the rays of the one-seat. What does the same thing with the dodgers? Right? The Yankees could they take care of business they moved their events they don't they go home whether they a one C or DHCP. It's everybody's even really to be honest with you. Everybody's even Garrett Cole. Start, for the Yankees Chain Bieber for the Indians in for all the money they paid Garrett Cole Shane Beavers had a better year he has in when you look at it, there are no fans in the stands. So there's no home field advantage for anybody you know what's great about not having fans the Houston Astros. Left right. Everywhere they go. They are the sick see the astros have made it in baseball's big off season, they should just get blinked. Every time people bring up the Astros are frown just cheated just blatant just cheat to win. They're taking on the Minnesota twins keys, dodgers will take on the brewers the padres in the playoffs for the first time in fourteen years will take on the Saint Louis Cardinals and the much maligned and I know it's a sixty game season. How about the Miami Marlins under? Derek. Jeter, for everything that they have gone through there and they'll get the Chicago cubs. Yeah. They they. They deserve to being I'm happy for I'm happy for Jeeter because when he? Blew everything up and traded. Call Stan and everybody was like Oh they just care about the money. They're completely trash in the organization, and now they're in the playoffs and they take on. Chicago like you said, one

Giants need win, help to reach playoffs after loss to Padres
"There were 7 18 7 wins 18 losses against teams that were over 500. If you look at all the playoff teams there, eight wins 20 losses. How far can these Giants go? If they do get into the playoffs? And what are your thoughts against his three game Dodgers series? The first round if and when they get to l. A on Wednesday? Well, I don't know if anybody would pick the Giants to win that. I don't think it's it just it's just not not a reasonable way to think. I mean, the Dodgers were the best team in baseball there 25 games over 500 there one through nine with power hitters. They've got Kirsch on and bueller lined up. They got a bunch of right handed pitchers, you know, adjust in May and Johnson against the Giants, right handers. Stacks up really kind of comically. One sided, however, Marty, it's baseball, right? I mean, what's the point of serious when the first one, but if they be Kershaw behind behind God's man, I mean, you know, that's that's the great thing. They go in your record book? Look up. 1951 look of 1962. Yeah, and this is a you're going to write it. I hope it's Giants Dodgers. You'll write a great story that you will write an amazing story. About about how these teams have played before and how the Giants were written off before to the very last pitch, and they ended up winning and winning penance by doing it. So my feeling is Bruce. You got a lot of lefties. The Dodgers a lefty oriented. We've seen what Kershaw was done before. It's a baseball game. That's all it is. Anything can happen. Yeah, three runs in the first inning off. Kershaw is like, whoa, what's going on here? And all of a sudden, people say, Gee, we didn't see that coming. Yeah, and it's very I wouldn't say it's unique to baseball. But you know if you get an NFL Matchup kind of the best in the worst. He had a pretty good idea how it's going to come out or an MBA. The Lakers are playing a team that's you know, they can't win a game to save their life. If you had a fair idea, but the baseball and we've seen it so many times. You can just knock you on your own your song on your seat her off your seat. What's What is it? Something like that happens. It's the shock. That's it. Come on the Mets and the Orioles 1969. How about that? Yeah, the miracle Mets. They weren't supposed to get there. They weren't supposed to beat the Braves, then Henry Aaron, and they did. And then next next thing, you know, they win the whole thing. And you know Cleon Jones and Tommy and me and Tom Seaver and all of a sudden the team that have been so unbelievably bad. It's like, Wow, these guys are really good, and it turned out they They were very good for the for the next several years, But that was that was a miraculously kind of thing that you know it goes back to the miracle Braves, you know, back in 1919 14. That's correct, George Stone, the miracle Braves. Yeah. So The history of baseball. It's filled with great stuff like this and completely improbable development. Why Do We Sing in the Shower?
"I think we can all admit that we've pulled a Paris bueller once or twice while lathered up in the shower. Everyone sometimes grabs a handy bottle of shampoo was an Improv. Microphone and busts out a tune or two. There's just something completely satisfying about singing in the shower even celebrities do it. According to People magazine after Jack Black likes to belt out led Zeppelin and Wycliffe. Sean digs a little bruce springsteen everyone's a rockstar in the bathroom whether you have a voice like aretha Franklin or couldn't carry a melody if it had a handle but have you ever wondered about this phenomenon. Some of US wouldn't see in public if someone paid us. We'll sing in the shower without embarrassment. Believe it or not there is a scientific explanation behind our soapy. Musical stylings first. Let's look at why we're relaxed enough in the shower to bust into song. I think about it. You don't sing when you're sad unless you're singing the blues. Maybe for many people shower times the only time they're alone all day. You're in a warm small safe environment. You're comfortable enough to be in the buff stress literally washes off of you when you relax your brain releases dopamine which can give your creative juices a jump start. Warm waters rushing over you and now you're relaxed and feeling good. It turns out that singing makes you feel even better singing because of the breathing that you put into. It gets more oxygen to the blood. This gives you better circulation. Which in turn improves your body and mood. And because you have to breathe a little deeper to belt out a song you get some of the same relaxation and mind clearing benefits as meditation. Another neat thing. Is that when you're singing? You can't really think about your problems. More stress relief. But the best thing about sending in the shower the acoustics. You couldn't ask for a better sound system than a bathroom because bathroom tiles. Don't absorb sound. Your Voice bounces back and forth around the room before fading away and because the shower is a small space it boosts your voice and even adds a little base making your singing sound more powerful sound bouncing also gives your vocal styling a reverse effect which makes voice hang in the air longer and evens out variations in your singing. I think of it as a primitive auto tune. It makes you sound better than you normally would. Which is a confidence boost? We don't sing in the shower simply because we have that song stuck in our heads. You know the one it turns out. We do it for many reasons. Stress Relief happiness great acoustics or maybe just because we like to hear our own voices no matter what the reason keep it up. It's good for you and if you've never tried it pick a song and put on your own private concert.
