"And he might be joining their line up very soon. And the Dodgers, there's a weariness about that team, Tim. And I saw it, I got to say, you know, in those years that I covered the Yankees, I saw that, you know, year after year after year with the high expectations on the team, pushing that rock back up the hill every year, I think, began to wear on the players. And then you have literal wearing on the players. Walker buehler going down with an injury the other day, a former forearm issue, they've made it clear. He's not going to be back for a long time, Justin Turner getting older, some of the other guys are struggling in the lineup. Dave Roberts talking on Monday about, hey, we need to start doing some things better. We need to start playing better baseball. Yeah, buster. I did their game Friday night and Saturday in San Francisco and granted they ran into a really good giants bullpen on Saturday, but they left 14 guys on base. And the bases loaded four times in that game. It just couldn't get people home. And as far as the weariness goes buster, look, I'm with you. I think the Dodgers will be a really, really good team in October comes. And they'll be playing in October. That's obvious. However, I was told that Julio urias is a little sore and a little tired from last year, buster. He pitched twice more than twice as many innings last year as any other season in his career. And even those numbers are good, he's given up 12 home runs and he's a little tired, I'm told. I was told the same thing about walker buehler that he's just not the same picture and that was before he got hurt. And he's going to miss two months buster. Maybe longer than that. If he's not picking up a ball for 6 to 8 weeks, he's going to be out for a long time. And he granted they have Tony Gonzalez and they are pitching in the minor leagues, but you know the Padres are really good right now. And the Giants, despite not being as good, they're a pain in the neck too. And I think the Dodgers have their hands full, but Dave Roberts is right. They have to play better as great as their offense is. They are a spotty offensive team here and there where you can pitch to that team, which I didn't think a lot of people thought you could. And you really feel like bob Melvin's made a huge difference with the Padres, yes? Yes, I was told, you know, last year, you know, somebody's got to come in and clean up some things here. And bob Melvin's really good at that. He goes right in and sees what's wrong. And he fixes it. But look at their team right now with the way they have pitched Joe musgrove and others. The way Jay cronin worth has played. And of course, Manny Machado. That's a very good team right now and in theory went to T gets back. It could get much better. I'm really curious about Tati's junior coming back and how exactly that all plays out. Especially the question of whether or not he plays shortstop or center field. What do you think? Well, I think he's going to play shortstop, but it'll be interesting to see what happens because he's been the star of the team since the minute he got there, even though Manny Machado has been a better player at times and all that, but he was the marquee guy. But remember buster, they had the best record in baseball after 50 games and then finished under 500 last year with tatis in the middle of all that. Now he's going to come back whenever it is, maybe to a first place team. Maybe he's going to look around and say, you know, my teammates are really, really good. Maybe I should follow the lead of them this time instead of maybe the other way around. I would play him at shortstop, but I think he's so athletic. He could play center field, stay healthier, but I think his best shot is at shortstop. Yeah, and I think my question to it shortstop is I agree with you. He'll come back and he'll be the shortstop. But I do think that the standards for performance and expectation have been raised there. So if he were to come back and make a bunch of errors early, I'd be curious to see what the reaction would be from bob Melvin. Yeah, I mean, I've had people in the organization tell me he's a center Fielder long term. That was last year. I was surprised to hear it that early, but you're right, bob Melvin has tightened things up there in every way. And one of them is the defense and to teach junior is a spectacular defensive player and yet every once in a while will kick ground ball, that is going to be unacceptable this time. So I'm going to ask you in a bit about the Tony La Russa situation about the Arizona ship. But before that, I want to ask you about some of the major awards that are up for grabs. American League cyan award is to me potentially a fascinating race because it might involve two teammates. Kevin gausman and Alec manoa the Toronto Blue Jays. Right now Tim, if you look at fan grass version of pitching war, Kevin gossman is far and away the FrontRunner, three war to this point, manoa at 1.9, Tim, I looked at it this morning, when I was ERA, is nearly a run better than Kevin gausman, it's clear that Gauss men's incredibly low home run rate is the reason why he's got that three war. I think right now, manoa might win that award. What about you? Yeah, I would vote for him. By the way, war buster is confusing to me still, because there are other sites that have a different war for each player. To me, if war is going to work, then it has to be the exact same formula as everyone else's. So it's confusing. But having said that, I would take manola. He's 8 in one, and I sorry, I still pay attention to wins and losses. He leads the league in ERA, 75 innings. He's done it for a very good team. I find three, four guys that you could put in this conversation, but I would take the big right hander for the Blue Jays. And I want to talk a little bit about manoa because I just love to watch him pitch. He's such an unusual starting pitcher. I think he's the closest thing that I've seen to a position player as a starting pitcher that I've seen in the time I've covered baseball. And this is what I mean by that. There's like a separation in clubhouses between the position players and the starting pitchers. Usually they have the starting pitchers, relief pitchers on one side of the Clubhouse, they have the position players on the other. Pitchers are kind of on their own thing, right? They have their own regimen. They have their own workout routine. They're kind of off doing their own thing. Even during the course of games that they pitch, they'll come back into the dugout, they're in one corner, and they're not to be talked to. No one's allowed to go in their area. Everyone leaves them alone because they're on their starting pitcher day. The day that they're.

"Referring to him as Jackie. The cardinals and the pirates, on Monday night, Paul Goldschmidt, MVP candidate, added to that. The three two pitches hit high and deep to left field. Did he get it? Back to the track and it's gone. Big flag Goldschmidt. The homers off a strap and the cardinals have a 6 to 5 lead. In a few minutes, you're going to hear from Tim kirkton as to whether or not he thinks Paul Goldschmidt is the FrontRunner to win nationally MVP. That sound, by the way, Cardinals radio network, Ricky Horton. Lots of injury news in recent days. The national Stephen Strasburg was scratched from his scheduled start. He continues to have issues related to his thoracic outlet syndrome, I saw him in his first start last week and he just was not the same Steven Strasbourg in terms of how hard he was throwing. So you hope for the best that he can come and make progress as we go ahead in the weeks to come. Walker buehler went on the age of list over the weekend with a right forearm strain, Dave Roberts, the Dodgers manager, made it very clear. He's going to be out a while and that kind of an impact on the national league west race. This happened last night in the braves game. Look at that defensive swing and Ozzie tripped and fell. Is he all right? The throw is going to go to first base and Ozzy albies is.

"He swung and missed only three times buster, he's chased only three times. And he's already got four swings in which he's generated an exit velocity of at least 100 mph. Cubs gave him a huge contract. $85 million is a lot. So we should have expected a lot, but I don't feel like much was made about them and him and spring training. I'm not so sure he's going to emerge as a superstar, but early indications are that he has a chance to be an excellent big league hitter. Right, you had a suggestion for a segment called real or fake. And so I'm going to give you three starts and you tell me if this is what they're doing early, these players is a reflection of something real or fake, like cattell Marte after slow start. I think that's going to be fake buster. I do think Marte is going to have a great season. Right now, his batting average on balls in play is under 200, despite making great contact. And I think there's a durable track record here, since 2019 is the third leading hitter in baseball with a three 15 batting average, pairs that with a 5 36 slug. And he's also steaming right now. He's like smack dab in the middle of what should be his prime. I think Marte is poised for a huge season. I'm not perturbed by what we've seen so far. I think he's going to break out and be a monster. Gavin Lux off to a great start. What do you think? So I think this is real buster. I think this is his breakout season. Let's put in context where he was and where he's arrived now because we obviously know the minor league track record was extraordinary. And he still hasn't surpassed 500 career bigly yet bats in large part because he's just stuck on the Dodgers who have an all star at practically every position. He's always sort of been a misfit on defense there too, but look they're playing him at second base where he has proven to be good. We know his struggles have mostly come in the outfield. It would not surprise me if I say mid season buster. This is an impact hitter in the middle of their order who is comfortable playing in an everyday role at second base. I believe in the talent. I think this could be his breakouts either. You agree with me that the difference between the Dodgers and just about every team except for maybe the raise is their ability to develop young players because I do, you know, they're so patient. They've done such a great job being patients with guys like Will Smith. Walker buehler at Gavin Lux, I think, would be the latest example. Their process is extraordinary. When you pair the amount of money that they can spend with the sort of shrewd team building strategy that Andrew Friedman brought over, it is an approach buster that I don't know how any team in baseball could over a period of time be better than them until something changes. There is no obvious reason to me why the Dodgers couldn't keep on this track for several more years. Their process is about as perfect as it gets and just and they can just so happen to spend as much money as they possibly want. They do as good a job as anyone in baseball of developing players as well. And look, I mean, Andrew Freeman was outstanding doing that in Tampa. Now we have three times the payroll. On Sunday Night, it looks like we're going to get you Darvish of the Padres pitching against the braves. He allowed 9 runs in two thirds the other night was at an outlier. Buster, I mean, I don't think so. Maybe to that degree it was an outlier, but I think we've seen enough now to worry that you Darvish is best days are behind him. So hashtag arbitrary endpoint here, but he made the all star team last year. But I went back and looked at the second half of a season bleeding into this season. So he's made 16 starts since the beginning of July last year. And in those 16th dark spots there, his ERA is 7.04. It's the highest ERA of any qualified pitcher during that time and also over that period of time. He owns the highest home run rate of any qualified pitcher. His breaking balls, which were once like this suite of just extraordinary swing and a mess, are no longer a weapon. The league is tagging his slider and tagging his curveball in a way that we have just not seen before. The velocity is still there. You're still seeing high strikeout totals, but you're seeing those walks creep up a little bit and you're seeing the damage done on swings to a much larger degree than before. You're not, you don't have to be nearly as defensive and even counts with you, Darvish as you used to. I think that might be a sunk cost and I don't think we're I don't think we're looking at days moving forward buster in which you Darvish resembles anything approximating in hands. It's fascinating because this week I heard that part of the discussion with darvis and tell me if based on the data that you just recite it and by the way, I want you to send it to me for our Sunday Night game. I heard this week that basically the front office saying, you got to throw your fastball more than you do. Like this whole approach of throwing the kitchen sink isn't working. And in his first start, 50% fastballs. That is so interesting, because I watched a bunch of you do ever starts in the second half of last season. And noticed this. But that whole, like you said, that whole array of sliders and curveballs and he obviously used to sit with that stuff and work as fastball off of it. The league is slugging a higher clip off of those pitches over that last sort of stretch that I described going back to July. And then his fastball, which was, which is obviously totally counterintuitive based upon, you know, years of track record and the big leagues. The Padres are looking at the same data that I am. And they're saying like, you have to pitch a little bit more traditionally because this spin, like once you sort of lose the sharpness of those pitches, obviously, you're giving hitters a greater chance to react. And you reduce your effectiveness to a great degree. Right now, you Darvish, it's pitching like you still has ace stuff. And he doesn't anymore. So he's going to have to modify his approach and do it quickly. All right, hambo. Thanks for doing this. And I'll talk to you next week. Thanks, man. Bleacher.

Yeah and not only that I mean it's just they're both great but if it's a one game or a seven game seven use all of them and this is the guy where it comes down to a game and you have to pitch him and they will. It's not even taken opinion. they'll i. I don't i think it's is an opinion. I think it is the opinion of two people in los angeles. Steve mason. Greg berman anybody with a brain gives the bald assures her. You can't not pitch this guy. He's been unbelievable. You're really not going to start the likely cy young award winner game if unless max scherzer shows me something over these final three weeks that he that he's struggling with something or an injury. There was something about hamstrings. They were talking about if he's healthy. If scherzer's healthy i absolutely starting here's Unprecedented to not start the cy young award winner and a one game playoff. Here's daniel in santa ana. Hey daniel you're on seven ten. Espn guys finally get to talk to longtime listener. First-time caller thanks. Max scherzer in there for game. One of for that playoff game in the wildcard because he's five has an era just about one and can we pitch against saint louis walker dealer. He would be the one as so in case it serves it gets in trouble. Go to bueller right away. And then i want to mention before i go. Listen to your answer off the air. Why is what. He has not getting serious consideration. Saigo thanks thanks man. He's he's got a lot of wins but his era is is not as low as buehler's and shire's and mace. I think he is going to get some votes. Julio your es. but. I don't think he's gonna win it. I think he should get votes. I think he will get votes I was just pulling up number. So you mentioned. He's got fifteen wins right. Yeah which i think is tied for the major league. He's got sixteen wins. He's sixteen and three with an er. A of whip of an era of two point. Nine seven yeah and so scherzer's at one point zero five. He's a two point. Nine seven scherzer's season areas iron. One point do you see what you guys are arguing about the. You're talking about three guy. Yeah no you're not sure zor bueller they're gonna be in the top five in the cy young voting would be anybody's number one right sue but guys the fact that you either one of you who are huge baseball fan both of you would consider not pitching max scherzer in a one game. Playoff befuddles me. What is what's yours additioning for that role for that job and you said all right. We're gonna pitch him five games in and that will give us a good sample size. Let's see how he does and he comes up with five and a one point zero yara with sixty three strikeouts and then you sit him. Here's the thing you don't choose him right walker walker. Bueller is the ace of. This squad has more years. No he is and he still is in every single big game that he has been including a game 163 including a game seven including a game five that would push them into the next round every big game in the playoffs that he has pitched it. He pitched well and one them. Those games you stick with the guy that got you there that you stick with the guy that is your is your ace for years to come not just this year years. The guy don't shares are sticks around idle or is there about years to come that cloud new. You said years to come twice. I'm talking because it is used to come but that does not relevant to this discussion. It's not right now. And i'm talking about not pitching the cy young award winner and a one game playoff. That's insane right but it's insane but every caller has agreed sherzer by what's weird. We did this last week. And every caller pick bueller. I wasn't completely present. I mean whoever was arguing for sherzer was a boob. The was it momo momo. She was arguing but she was on our side. We both said it was bueller last week. I think we're all preserve this last. Start this saturday night starting again. i don't i don't have anything negative to say about bueller. I'm looking at the greatness of sherzer texts from abc. Seven kurt sandoval. Oh hey kirk. John remind these knuckleheads. How bueller did this weekend against the giants bullpen. the giants bullpen. beat walker. bueller. Sherzer is the guy in a one game play. Making my point. He's occurred hurt is a victim of one game. Day start. yeah. I don't care about that i think has been can't do more than this dudes done. He's been unbelievable. I think he's played himself into. I mean he's gonna get a monster heel at age thirty seven. He's going to get a monster free agent deal. He's been he's he's done. He's ver- lander. Let me tell you when we come back. I haven't had a chance to talk about this you talked about. ucla. I want to talk about usc plus at ordure on in his little confrontation with a fan and by by the way something has come out of that. "Eight seven seven. Seven ten three seven seven six. How you guys consider giving the ball to anybody but him is criminal. He's too good walker. Bueller is a big game pitcher for us. Karenin era in the postseason to thirty five point. Sixty six eighty three strikeouts in sixty one innings. Here's lionsgate young awards and by the way buehler's not sure up in. He's been pretty good in the postseason. He's been really good seven five three thirty eight a buck thirteen whip. I just think walker. Bueller is our big game pitcher. He's been there for game fives. He's been there for game sevens. I feel strongly that you throw out. I mean as long as he reverts to form and he continues to throw the way he did for most of the season i still think walker bueller starts a one game playoff and in the end by the way we we may not have a choice right because we're going to be playing down to the true not true you're forgetting something. What the final weekend for. The dodgers will be meaningless. Okay unless they're chasing the giants correct. But here's the thing. If the as soon as the divisions decided one way or the other the other team can set their pitching rotation because the wildcard team is gonna have a ten fifteen game lead on. You're not the only way that you couldn't say. Rotation is if on the absolute final round of the year. It was a one game. i think. That's what's gonna be. I think. I think it's gonna go exactly down to the wire photo-finish right you were saying before. Dodgers's the wildcard. Now you think the dodgers are gonna win the division. I think they have a chance. Yeah but i mean you may see you were the one that's been our. I think you bet mythical money on it but we can't trace it. 'cause lindsey never kept track but the dodgers were going to win. These game was gonna win the division by ten games. I was the one that said less than five. Yeah yeah and it's going to be less than five. There's no question about it. One of their twenty four games. They played by the way they play right after us today. Right yeah the plane. So if you're listening you can listen to us and then go watch the dodger game. Yep exactly so. That's a good question though. One game playoff. Who do you throw especially after this weekend. Sure thirteen strikeouts in eight innings. Yesterday buehler got knocked around on saturday night. His one bad start of the year. Adrian grabs him. Yeah that's really interesting. That as to why buehler got lit up and i think greg might be right. I don't know what those your theory or you're sharing someone else's thirty but that makes him. Well we'll explain it coming. Yeah we'll explain that coming up. Plus we will spin the wheel of questions mason ireland. Seven ten espn. Hey what's going on monday. Tuesday right tuesday. Monday seems like a monday. But it's really tuesday. We got a short week this week. It's a crazy week. John and i are playing golf on friday at the big. Espn seven ten golf tournament. Wednesday night is our fantasy draft. Well i'm gonna you know. I love doing mock draft. So i'll tal- find a fine time between now and tomorrow night to do a mock draft and then it will all go to hell when the actual draft starts because nobody nobody in our league drafts conventionally including you including me exact and you pick performing so right it. It's going to be weird now. Did was brought up by ramona. Or lindsey or anybody. While i was gone that my wheel of questions is significantly. Let's just say more thoughtful than your wheel of questions. Not more thoughtful darker and your questions. They say somebody always dies or get buddy is murder. Okay so do you wanna do my wheel or your will. Today do yours okay. All right hang on a second. Spin the wheel. Taylor never know what's gonna come up. Ooh okay this will now. "God he had to bring it out yet. John so i go to. The rams and i went to sophie stadium. There are sleeper and travis on the scoreboard. I'm like oh wait a minute. We're on the scoreboard. At the laker games. I'd much rather be in the scoreboard at the lakers. Game than the ram game. There only eight home. Ram games are forty one home. Laker games laker town. It's a better gig. As long as we're still on the scoreboard at every game every game by the way. We're you hear window offers on. I don't think you were not well. I don't know the last time i was on. He told you that you you were banned from doing whose house but no i heard you had bill plunkett on. And here's a question that went. Ask you about the dodgers. The dodgers are now one game behind the giants which i didn't think they were gonna catch the giants at all and while i was gone. They caught him so now. I think it's a real possibility. The dodgers can win the division. Even though you are underrating the giants the giants are really good. But here's here's my question. So i'm in idaho. And i'm watching the dodgers or beaten everybody to have this great month of august yup and they have a chance to set their pitching rotation. So it'll be ordering this bueller and sherzer in san francisco where the game's really mean. Made this point to and greg disagrees with it. I if they had pitched in the final game against colorado we would have had sure zor against the giants on greg. I'm gonna give you thirty seconds to explain how in the world you could the other way. What sense does it make to not pictures or against the giants because you needed to have your top. Three pitchers going against the braves. The braves are a better team. And then you need to have them right there. You need to win those games and it worked out. They were at zero zero. They were tied going into the weekend series. All right so we're supposed to okay so so let me point to things out that you said that. Were just factually incorrect. The i was actually incorrect. The braves are not better than the giants. They played the same amount of games giant. The giants have a better record number two. The games against the braves were at home. The game in san francisco men everything the braves are not in your division by the way great by the way the fact that they booted that series b. bite you know and i know the giants bullpen games too but that series no the series if they pictures where they would've have won the series right. They didn't pitch bueller. Hold on on sunday right white but they went bullpen game on saturday night and friday friday night and it went on. Okay saturday in so greg and nothing to do with the pictures though but wait a minute. Let me make this point connecticut. This point by not winning. Two of three and i think even you would agree. That pitching sherzer would give them a better chance to win. Two three by not winning two of three. They gave the season series to the giants. Ten nine so now if they finished with identical records and there's a one game playoff to determine the division winner. The game is in san francisco even worse if they finish tied in the standings and they meet in a seven game series. The giants now have home field. They completely disregarded the importance of the giants series. I don't know what they paid about it. Here's the thing greg. a game. A win against the giants counts for two right totally undersold game on them as opposed to what we're doing yesterday. We beat saint louis. Well they'd be colorado. It's now we're in a full on chase and we don't get him again. Those games against the giants countered his hand in double we look. You're looking back on wrong though. This is the pitching matchups. Didn't actually make that much of a difference. You had dealer still going on sunday. And he got lit. You're you're you're right you're using you know you're using hindsight the know greg on used for site. I complain about this. The when i got to work last monday complaint about this i said why did you throw line was hit. Youth wrote reassess on sunday against colorado. That would have given assures her on sunday on friday. They went to extra innings. Do the people that started the only give up one by the way. Friday isn't that friday night came in the friday. night game. dave roberts screw up no. I know you wanna leave. Will smith in the game. Because he's a clutch hitter. But will smith had not played first base ever not even in the minors. Here's the thing you're missing john. So they what they did was they had to pinch. Run for our pool holes in the tenth right. did you see him. Truck from second to third on that sacked fly. They needed a guy who could score on an infield hit or bueller in as a pinch runner correct and that meant that. The first baseman had to be will smith. They were just keeping will smith in the lineup. For keeping wolves smith and lineup. It's because they pinch hit for holes that they had to move will smith and i don't disagree with the move to wait a minute. Run for pools were bellinger. And muncie still in the game. They were out there gone there. Nobody else could've played i. Nobody would ever played first base before could have played. I pay exactly. And i don't disagree with the move and i don't think you would either to pinch run for albert pool halls. Who is like. I was texting truck out by college remained at. Ucla was a baseball player. Big pitcher not fast. And i texted him during that game and i said am i wrong to suggest that both you and i could run from home to first faster than pool halls and he was response. Was you and i in a tag team. Relay could you would lap them. It would go. You can go around twice before he gets up so you disagree with pinch running for pool and that was left yet and i'll i'll do we have time. Okay the other thing you guys. I know you guys feel this way. You guys are both wrong that if we get to a one game playoff we throw bueller and not sherzer. You're paying attention to how good sherzer is right now. Yeah go ahead right now. Sherzer you could. Tim never make this argument yesterday during the game on the radio shirt just worked himself. Back into cy young contention he's his his stats with the dodgers in his five starts since he's been here he's five with an era of one and sixty three strikeouts. He's the best pitcher on the planet right now. And if you have one game yearning we consider given that ball to anybody first of all. I don't i don't agree with you. That's what that is as prisoner. The moment walker bueller through exactly one bad game. Wait a minute. I say i didn't say i didn't say anything about bueller. I'm talking about again. You guys aren't paying attention to shoot buehler's great a a great pitcher. Nobody not bueller. Not anybody right now. Not jacob degrom. Who's been hurt sure. Zor is the best pitcher on the planet right now. You should open the phones for this eight. Seven seven seven.

Ucla's very good lsu as a shaky align and two starters upfront got injured and they're starting running back at an academic suspension on friday. So it was a little lopsided so bergman how ucla how much. How much stock can i put in this start so you could actually put a decent amount into this. Start because lsu is still an sec style. Defense they're really good. The only thing that i would disagree with you john is that did not look very good. I think you look good. He looked no. No no no greg. You don't need them to throw for four hundred yards. You don't need them to know right because most end is great. Yeah it's a greg dulcet. She's a fantastic. Really good hands. But the problem is that he makes really really bad decisions and he's still throws off his back foot. I think the team is really good especially with was act chardonnay and britain brown. Who's really the starter. Is britain brown. Shockingly and if you with everything that they have. Dr is the weakest link. That's a problem okay. So here's what i want. First of all i listen to the tracey pearson show on his perot cast today. And they are using things like Breakthrough and it's a whole new world. That's the one i love. It's a whole new world. Look there. I don't know how good they are. I know i know. Lsu's not very good grill issue. I said i said friday. I think at order will be fired within three years at actually may be sooner than three hundred mates if he has a losing season this year. He'll be fired. Yellow is not you know. That's why i spent some time with some people this week. That's what they're so disgusted by. Is that clay. Had a losing season had a foreign seven season and they kept him. You can't get away with afford and seven season at lsu and keep your job. If he has been losing season he's fired. I mean they are five and six. Since joe brady and joe borough left. Joe joe brady is great offensive coordinator and joe borough who is just a fine for for else lsu. So i. i think they're going to be. I think they're going to be good. I think they're sides of. I don't think it's a whole new world. i don't i don't think the world is significantly changed. We're still on our access access and we're still they're still. Ucla pulled world whole new world. This team hasn't had a winning season. Five years yeah. They made the top twenty five number sixteen in the top. Twenty five right. These are non conference wins. That chip kelly is ever a whole new world. Wait hey greg who's our next victim. Fresno victims now no wouldn't us france in the pac twelve fresno state. Look pretty good the other day. This quarters yeah. Oregon oregon did not look at your mace. The pac ten stinks. Oh my god. Utah state beat washington state. Byu beat arizona. Nevada cal purdue beat oregon state kansas state beat stanford montana beat washington and oregon went down to the wire with fresno state by the way hurt. Because i think usc and ucla of a chance to be very good this is going to really hurt them in terms of the national playoff picture because the pack twelve conference just looks awful top the bottom right now. Yeah and they and they can't get out of their own way and they got a bad. They got a bad tv deal and they finally got rid of larry scott so hopefully this new guy cleaver cough can come in and clean it up a little bit. So here's what we're gonna do. Let's i've got some real comments about usc football 'cause i wanna get into dodgers coming up next john dodgers questions for you. I watched dodger games while i was gone. I can't figure out something. Okay okay. that's good I've got answers for you. Spent the weekend watching those games. Unfortunately with not step that leo. "It in by turning the questions over to you. I hear you. I love this wonder. Did max scherzer. Just pass walker builder in the nl. Cy young race pass. No if you if you're playing what have you done for me lately. Janet jackson then yeah. Shirts are had assures or game last. They had thirteen strikeouts. You know i mean he just. He dominated a game that the dodgers needed to have and that's also clutch but their record. The wind told us are about the same thirteen and three thirteen. And four. the er as are about the same. I mean miniscule differences in both of those tony and that's what we call the rest of the season being for because each one is going to get about four starts. We'll we'll figure it out. The dodgers need both of them. They got both of them got roughed up in his latest latest star. But we're not playing. What have you done for me lately. You will because you want to boost shirts no matter what but i'm gonna win gonna lose. We'll see look walker buehler got ripped by the giants in a very important game. He went three innings. He gave up six earned and because of that loss the giants now on the tiebreaker. Should that be important against the dodgers but buehler has a lovely record thirteen and three and a two three one. Era sure are as you said comes back. The next day throws eight gives up no earned strikes out thirteen in law. Nobody here sears. Her with the dodgers. Mike started seven games with the dodgers. Dodgers have won a mall sherzer five zero with a one oh five. Era sixty three strikeouts in forty three innings and only five walks. Nobody's done that since called facts. He is this year's justin verlander. I don't know that he's passed bueller. And you're right. They're going to have the opportunity to go back and forth but when he looked like a luxury now he's a necessity now he was either on a luxury. He was a necessity. And he's going to be that the rest of the regular season and presumably in the playoffs. How big a deal is patrick. Ken lay winning the fedex cup. First of all if anybody wants to say it's not a big deal to fifteen million dollars and that person would either be a billionaire or fool so fifteen million dollars to go out to tony when you're standing over those putts you know how we play at it. You know. we're talking a little bit of trash and you may say to me. Imagine this push for a million dollars. Big boy let's see if you can make it well. It was for them so many times during this candidate with the candidates performance tony. He won four times. I get it that jon rahm could say. He outplayed him in two of those four. Because jon rahm was taken off the golf course in one and then he started off several strokes behind three three strokes behind. I guess and the other. But i'm going to say can't lay. It's a big big big deal to finish the way he did and win that much money. So let's tell people what's what's going to happen if you and i are playing for any money at all and you're standing over four foot or you're waiting for me to say kick it up and he'll for me to say. Ken lay had a great run and can't lay putty spectacularly at caves valley knowledge beliefs. Good good and he held off rahm but did he beat romm. He beat them because of these strokes that he got going into this particular strokes in. Yeah because here's what he shot. He shot to sixty nine. Which is wonderful. But ron shot to sixty six and shaw flake to sixty eight and not to sixty six. So on a regular metal play event. Rahm is gonna win. I'll tell you this if you were watching an eighteen. If that's a regular event roms not shipping. Try and get it in. He's putting because he's three shots ahead. That's that's right. He's not going to have to try to chip. But here lay all the credit in the world to candle walls in the world but to number one play right now in the world is john ron john. It can't can't list one but you'd take either one hundred percent enough female..

Chris Singleton had the call here on ESPN radio. They join us now, with the postgame extra 61 the final as the Dodgers beat the Giants and even the series at a game of peace 99 on the season series. And the Giants and Dodgers are tied for first place in the National League West, and But Chris, we've seen many teams go at the opener bullpen game here tonight. Just didn't work for the giant says the Dodgers were able to strike early, and Julio Aureus was sharp early in the Dodgers just took control well after loss Last night, Tough one an extra innings. The Dodgers came out right away with Trey Turner leading the ballgame off they home run to center field and booed. They added two more runs in the inning. They stole three bases in the first inning, so these guys were coming out of the gates. They wanted to score early and score. Often They were able to do that, and Arrius was locked down for the innings that he was in this ball. Game five and two thirds. Eight hits. Scattered. One earned run eight strikeouts. Really good job and just to really good ball clubs. It's been fun to watch them all season long and it's gonna be a lot of fun on Sunday night as well. Got to be a good feeling for the Dodgers knowing to have Walker Buehler going and he's one of the front runners for National League Cy Young. Yeah, I mean, he's he's the top guy, and you know everybody else the fields, look it up. I think it Walker Buehler and he'll Dave Roberts said this a few weeks ago that you alert he is the ace. He understands, um, who he is, and that this is his time. There's a lot of respect for Clayton Kershaw and everything else, but he knows That he's the guy you know to carry this team and he is assumed that responsibility and been very fierce on the mound this year, so I would imagine as well tomorrow with an opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the National League West. He'll be up for the task. Dodgers grinding out big time at bats end up with six runs on six hits..

"If as you said the scenario is he hasn't pitched the rest of the year. My focus is on zack. Wheeler at this point. I mean e ease another complete game shutout. Last night are yesterday's game against a man. He's got a few of those this year think he leads. The league in complete games He he's gotta be the front runner right now. If that scenario stays to say. I almost agree with you. I think he is the front runner in the runner up to the guy that i think should be this year. Cy young award winner. If it's not jacob degrom of course walker bueller is so good and no one acknowledges them so much so that you just laid out the dodgers starting staff and you put them number three et. No i know as i soon as i did i was like this. You're not but you're not the only one. I do it all the time too when i think dodgers walker buehler's somehow is the eleventh name that comes to my mind and he is there as he is the best pitcher on that staff and he threw another gem last night. I believe he's leading the with the exception of of active players. I believe he has the best. Era in baseball. he's been spearheading that tire division. I really think walker bueller. With the exception of zack wheeler going out and throwing four more complete game. Shutouts i think walker bueller will be a really good pick for cy young this year. Listen you're not wrong. You're right buehler's bulos the number one leader Ahead of peralta and woodridge Year are he second in the league in in wins this year. That that should mean something as well right he you know zag. We got him on strikeouts. But you might be right you might. You might have made a compelling enough case that it could be it could very well be walker builder man and and i. I should have known better. Because i've seen him probably pitch more than any of these other starters out there and he's been legit dominant and all of those starts. That's necessarily got the wins but Listen i i don't know why we keep looking over him and and i don't know why the media hasn't picked up on them yet right. I mean it may. Maybe it's because servicer in kershaw in that rotation or are that offenses so can be so prolific at times But it is a mystery. It is misery even as we sat here and did this. We both willie's i did. I put him third on liz. As you said it's a mystery why we don't talk about it much. But i think he convinced me i it it walker buehler's probably the is probably the leader right now. It's a it's a. it's a hell of a battle. I'm looking forward to sing. What these guys do for the rest of the season. Let's talk a little. Nl mvp because as you mentioned earlier. Jacob degrom was at the top of all of our lists. He's officially off all of our. He no longer in the running. So there's a lot of names out there that is having a hell of a year and some names that are sneakily climbing these lists right now. One name. that immediately comes to mind is bryce harper. Who's just been killing it lately. Who do you think has a chance to win the nl mvp. Because i mentioned on the show a couple of weeks ago there is a guy that i'm really expecting a big second half and that for me is manny machado. If he comes alive the second half. I don't think there's anything then a stop yet. He will he is alive. I that dude is is hitting at a stupid clip right now. He's unreal. he is he. He's he's he's put this offense on their back while fernando's out here's the thing if fernando comes back after zeile and he's fernando. I think it's his lose. I really do. I would degrom. Not in the pitcher anymore. There are just too many things that fernando has done offensively That i think separate him from everything else. He's he's leading the league in slugging. These leading the legal stolen bases home runs. He's right there in the rbi ray so there are so many things that he does so well. I think it's his blues and it sounds like he's going to be coming back. I it's i mean it might not be at the shortstop position it could be alpha We'll see but i think it's is the lose after him. I think you got a. I think you've got a next year. It's tat tease junior. And in the next tier i think is machado. I think it's muncie. And i do think it's hard harper's starting to make a push now. I don't know if you remember at one point. In the season he had like thirteen home runs and like ten of them were were solo shots and east now he starting to have some guys on base woody's hit now that they've kinda Started to play better but for me. I think he's probably at the back even though he started to make a lot of noise. It's guys like machado probably underneath jetties. And then you gotta give muncie a whole bunch of love to 'cause he's been good as well you know. I also like muncie as well. But i really like your pick on tattoos and i like my pick on machado. I think this is going to be a southern california word this year. Just really do the to arguably the two best of the three best teams. The baseball i just. I think that's a really good fit over there. And like you said machado's just putting up unreal numbers and if tease comes back even semblance of what is been right you. You're not wrong. He's gonna be right there in that conversation. If not just the certified. Mvp let's look at al mvp because everyone is said all year otani otani otani but there is one thing i want. Fans are really understand about all these awards. It's who votes on them. The people who riley vote on these are writers so as of right now there's been a lot of pieces written about otani because he's done incredible things. This series done incredible things for the game. He's an incredible ambassador for the game. Globally however if the toronto blue jays really start going on a roll and vlad junior is part of the reason if not the main reason that they do go on said role. There's going to be a lot of people writing about vlad junior and when that happens going into a playoff run and into october those writers are going to vote. What's right in front of them. Vladi junior is right in front of them killing in october. There's a chance votes might be going his way. I still inclined to think otani still the mvp. But i think black has got a lot more damage to do to change mines. And here's why that point is important in terms of who's voting these are i. These are human so you know that can be moved one way or another. Based on the information that's constantly interface. As as as you just put cody and if that happens in in the blue jays are a team that are in the thick of a a pennant race or in the thick of getting in the wildcard and vlad junior is certainly in and his face is constantly. Because here's the thing. The angels are going anywhere right there. They all ties gonna keep doing. He's doing but he's literally going to be the guy that they show win. He's either pitching or he does some because their team is not going to be relevant. I don't think down the stretch whereas the blue jays all of a sudden you games are cutting to the blue jays games to see what they're doing if there's in the hunt that has in effect on the voter and so you're right if the blue jays somehow can can get into a place where night in night out. People have to tune in to see what they're doing because that races that tight and vlad junior is doing the same stuff. He's been doing all year. There is a. It's easy to see how he could somehow win this Al mvp now without that. It's otani's because of just the sheer things that he's been able to do that..

Giants Rally in 9th for 2nd Straight Night To Beat Dodgers
"The giants scored four two out ninth inning runs off Dodger closer Kenley Jansen to pull out an improbable five to three when they're in rough drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game and lamonte Wade junior then capped the rally with a two run single listing it too much about what else is going on interesting about focusing on my bed when I need to do to have consistent bad and you know try to help the team out so you kind of just focus in on that get a good pitch to hit likely did not object to do that it was Jansen's second blown save in two nights LA ace Walker Buehler held the giants to a run on five hits Buehler struck out nine before leaving in the eighth mark Myers Los Angeles

"So whatever i'm jerry but ferris buehler's day off they take the car they go on a joy ride to to impress folks and i i like i like the direction that the be plot win if we're going to be plot because it started following these coming of age tales. That are like they are they are eighties movies in a nutshell Like i think. I think someone read it and i. I'm sorry i can't give you credit. But know that i i. I'm thinking of you when i say this. Somebody said the adventures of the spaceship in college. Towns should be called parke's because it's like a car. Yeah that'd be great but it has that sort of like you know the the car. Tahoe like vibe where a party town like movie and i'll all of their transformer logos or a little like shockers lake shock at distance. There's there's a movie back in the day called ski school ski patrol those types of like really gross out like teen comedies porkies. Obviously first billers day off There there's a couple others that i had written down before that i that i neglect to put on here now. Oh we'll obviously american graffiti when they're at the car hop like that is that's that's typical sixties stuff. And so they had this. They had this coming of age thing. In in every coming of age tale they're usually the bullies the cool kids at that. Turn out not to be as cool as a lead on the breakfast club. That type of stuff and i really like how they ended. Up tying out tying that the medically to what was going on directly with rick. Jerry beth..

"Ball kind of moved on him. Yeah, I think it was a combination of those factors. Bill, and I'm glad you pointed that out because Mikey Stransky looked like he had that ball tracked. And then the sun got in the way and then his track appeared to be completely off at the end as he kind of faded away. And so that was a good point as well. Dave Fleming noted that you know, yes, has played Gold Glove caliber defense in right field for the Giants hasn't necessarily been Solution in center field like they hoped, But to see him make that mistake and then have to, you know, dive on the following To me. The highlight of this game was the interactions we saw between Kevin Gausman and Juan Soto in the batter's box. I don't think that it's possible to have a more entertaining based on balls than what Juan Soto can produce in the major leagues right now. Marty, do you like it? I love it. I love Juan Soto. I was hoping I was hoping you would. Yeah, No, I love Juan Soto on Soto is just such a great ballplayer. You don't want to miss one of his at bats and let's face it with Washington. There aren't too many guys. You want to see their at bats. But he's one of them for sure. I love everything he does on the field and talk when Rob them last night, that game who knows what could have happened last night on the ball that he hit the talk man brought back so Yeah, I love Juan Soto. I think he's absolutely terrific. And Bill your thoughts. What would you do with Juan Soto? If he was, if you were facing him, we'll walk them like everybody else is no doubt. You know, he's got nobody can hurt you really behind him Right now. I would say it. Yeah, yeah, He's got the power to take it any which way and he's got over. 40 walks like I just said, but He's got a great eye for the plate. You know, every at bat, he just watches it. I go back to those Pete Rose days when he follows the ball into the glove. That's one Soto and he bends over and he makes that at bat. You know, everybody wants to watch that back because he's such a young, powerful player. And carry when you look at a guy like that in here, and you see him hitting 2 70 in the middle of this order. He's really that guy like we talk about Buster Posey trying to have that team play on his back. But yet, you know, he's not there yet a 22, but he's sure sure big part of this lineup. Oh, my goodness, the best plate discipline in all of baseball. In my opinion, Juan Soto. Maybe he's not leading the league in walks, but he will almost always be at or near the top of the league in walks. He doesn't chase. We saw the pitch that Kevin Gausman threw on the outside corner. It really should have been called a strike that once said he checked his swing on and they made the appeal down the third base. It was an outstanding pitch. From Kevin Gostin. But even at the age of 21, I'm of the belief that Juan Soto has started to get pitches because of his reputation of having this incredible eye at the plate. And just the way that he works. The at bat stares into the pictures soul. I mean, this is good for baseball, and you know that walks and strikeouts are not good for action. We want balls in play. We want more singles, doubles and triples. Juan Soto is kind of the the antithesis of that. We want to see one Soto work like a nine pitch at bat and draw Walk party because he really does grind guys down and look into the pictures soul. As I said, It just makes it so fun so entertaining and in a seven inning game like today, it reminds us why we love baseball and why we show up to the park in the first place. Yeah. Come on. This Fernando tatty sits a kuna. It's him loose. Seattle Who Luciano? Yeah. Luciano! Marco Luciano, If you want to go to San Jose and Ceelo a ballplayer, Absolutely Will. Wilson. If you're up in Oregon, for some crazy reason you could see him up there. But these are these are the young players that carry loves and I agree with you. It's It's fun. They bring fun to the game, and I think it's good. I wanna talk about your strep ski a little bit. Um and they've brought this up. John brought it up as well. You know, the Giants don't rehab guys. They just say, Are you ready? Alright. You're in there and boy belts slow the bats slow for belt right now. And I think for your Stransky, too. It's going to take a little while. Maybe I'm wrong. Uh, you know, to get that I back that that competitive eye at the plate. And also in defense. You know, he got turned around a lot. I realized it was a bad son Field, but he did get turned around a lot. And then he had to come rushing in the dive that pop up. But the big thing for me And I'll throw it out. You know, Bill we could take calls. You know that 808 let's do it, Marty, We got plenty of time. Anyway. It can be our, um What do you think about your Stransky? And is he The most important part of the second half. So to speak after these next 199 games to go as Carrie will tell us shortly 99 to go. Is just Stravinsky, the most important piece of the puzzle other than the big guys other than belt other than Posey, other than Longoria. Other more effort Yeah, You know, when you talk about guys coming off the ill, they can take as much live BP and in a cage, but its timing. It's timing of the picture. It's timing of the game in progress, and that's what I saw. Today. It's like the timing was just short. He was just laid on some pitches and the hand I was watching his hands to see if there was any problem with the hands because, of course, he hurt his thumb. Didn't seem like it. It's just his timing was a tick off and he missed a couple pitches that were right there. And, of course, now everybody's elevate the fastball out and carry and it looks like that's the pitch that the scouting report is saying he can't hit. And if that's going to continue, he's another gotta lay off on it or he's going to have to find a way to put some wood on it because they're definitely going up there with two strikes. Yeah, it has been interesting to see pictures adjust to Mikey Stransky Bill because in 2020, especially during the first half, it felt like there was nothing you could throw him that would get past him or would flummox him for more than a few at bats and I go back to watching him. Early in the 2020 season, he faced Walker Buehler, fellow Vanderbilt Guy and Walker Buehler was throwing him sliders off the plate in a way and the fastball up in the zone..
