"Get one thumbs up for that. And then be pushed to do a lot more and then hopefully the House and Senate budget committees will follow with their own budgets and then they can get to the real work of trying to reconcile the differences. Oh, boy, we got a lot of months ahead, don't we here. Maya, thank you, as always, your insights are important to us and we'll be looking for your reaction once we get the real official official budget drop tomorrow. Miami Guinness is president of the committee for a responsible federal budget. I'm Joe Matthew and Washington hour two here of Bloomberg sound on joined in studio by Kayleigh Lyons is with us now in Washington D.C. and I like to think will be a fairly regular presence in this conversation here. Oh, I would love that show. When we think about the months ahead, we're going to figure out the debt limit, which you just went there. Months before there's actually a budget that is in place. So the question then becomes, how does this timeline come together here? Because Kevin McCarthy says they won't raise the debt limit without a budget deal. Right, it's incredibly difficult. The navigation and frankly, it's probably going to come down to the wire, right? Isn't this the story of how it goes? It's going to be a ticking clock and we're all going to be waiting with bated breath. The great motivator, as we now know, we're looking at what somewhere between July and August and we want to add Emily Wilkins to the conversation. Of course, Emily is working the halls of Congress speaking directly with the leadership on a daily basis about the issues that we talk about, and that's why we want to connect with Emily as well. She was with Kevin McCarthy last evening. He was dealing with a lot of matters beyond the budget, including the whole January 6th thing on Fox, which we're going to get to. But listen to Emily Wilkins with a really important question here for the Speaker of the House. Mister speaker on the debt limit

"House financial services committee. Who is Patrick M Henry and why should global Wall Street listen to him this morning? Well, he's a key ally of the speaker McCarthy, of course, and he's an individual that I think our audience really knows about. He's been in the financial world outspoken about these issues in Congress and he's we'll see what he has to say today when it comes to the fed chair Jay Powell. But what you're going to hear today from lawmakers is likely similar to what we heard yesterday. There's going to be the issue on capital requirements on banks, climate change, who's going to be his number two, and then the most important issues, of course, is where the fed chair sees inflation and higher rates. And Tom, something you brought up about big cities versus rural areas. We should note it wasn't just senator Elizabeth Warren talking to him about this concern of people losing their jobs. The quote from senator John Kennedy of Louisiana, Republican was you're trying to raise the unemployment rate. Are you not? That is what he said to Jerome Powell, because obviously if people lose their jobs, this is a concern for every single lawmaker. I look in, Murray, at the festivities this morning, and I just want to know what the Republican response is. Clearly the Democrats drive in the show yesterday got the visibility to the Republicans focus on boring surveillance economics or do they take a different tact? The Republicans are going to focus on issues that they want to highlight in terms of how their economic agenda is better than, say, the Democrats. So when you have the Democrats really wanting to get Jay Powell to talk about raising the debt ceiling in a very clean way, the Republicans are going to want to point to things like what they deem as excessive spending from this administration and how that potentially was a cause or added to the cause of inflation. So you will see these partisan issues also, Mike McKeon, I spoke after the hearing yesterday and the testimony yesterday and we were both quite shocked at how many Republicans came out and talked about the fed governor Barr's recalibration right now looking at bank capital requirements, almost the majority of Republicans touched on this yesterday. So clearly there are a lot of bank lobbyists that want Republicans to focus on this capital requirement. But really from the politics point, the Republicans are going to want to get if they can and he's going to be very diplomatic about it as he was yesterday, but they really want to point to federal spending and what they call excessive spending. Emery, just quickly, this is something Lisa and I want to talk about in just a moment, but the president expected to propose a 5.2% raise for federal employees and his budget set to be released on Thursday. This is the largest in 43 years. Now I understand why he wants to do this, but do they acknowledge that this might contribute to the overall problem? Well, we'll see, because the president is also going to map out how he thinks they can bring the deficit down and probably there's been a lot of calls from individuals that work in the federal government, which is a huge employer because inflation is going up. They want to see their wages go up. But whether or not it's this issue in terms of federal wages or if it's going to be, he's going to call for tax over those $400,000 or going to call for quadrupling the tax on share buybacks. None of this will get through this Congress. Thank you. And wolf said, I'm Marie Dan in Washington, D.C.. And let's be careful about framing that point being part of the problem. I mean, for the Federal Reserve, I think everyone's going to want that pay rise against the backdrop of higher inflation without a doubt. But this is the pass through conversation that we're talking about. This is why this can last longer than people. I think Americans understand to see IMF had a great bar chart in the last 42, maybe 48, maybe 78, 72 hours, how alone the United States is in fiscal expansion as a COVID solution. It's shocking to look at that chart. There is a story about 6 months ago about members of the European Central Bank, researchers who are asking for a raise, and the Central Bank pushing back and saying, we don't want to be part of the problem, right? And so it's just sort of highlights the reality where you go in order to maintain a quality of life. You need to have a wage increase. I mean, what's so important here, John, is we've got this event here at 10 o'clock with futures of fractionally in that. Then we have the surveillance nap. And we've got to put in place what really matters now. What's that? Which is the countdown here to where A.C. Milan takes out the top. Because you're at one goal. They're up one goal right now, right? Is that the countdown clock for Milan's first later? We should have gone to this game. We tried. It was blocked. It wasn't a pretty. It wasn't a proof

"To Republican Jody arrington of Texas, who chairs the House budget committee about his plans for the budget and the latest debt ceiling talks. We're 31 trillion in debt. Debt ceilings a check on the debt and it's impact on the financial health of our country and that health is in decline and our path fiscal path is unsustainable. And I find that many of my colleagues on the Democrat side of the owl rank and file colleagues, they get that. So we just have to get to something in writing and something that we can agree on and show the American people. We can do what they have to do when they're experiencing financial challenges, which is tighten our belt and reevaluate our spending habits. Given that something big on entitlement solvency is off the table with regard to the debt limit, does this do these conversations basically center on a discretionary spending cap regime? That's a great question. Well, the spending cap proposals and there are, I have one, but I'm sure there are a number of proposals to basically extend the caps that we had in place for the previous ten years. This was also negotiated, by the way, by then vice president Joe Biden as a part of a debt ceiling negotiation deal. So there is precedent for fiscal reforms coming out of these negotiations. Rep. Lauren Boebert Shares Her Story in New Book 'An American Life'
"Guys, I'm really happy to welcome to the podcast. Welcome back to the podcast, Lauren bobert, U.S. congresswoman. Colorado's third congressional district. She's on the natural resources and budget committee. She's involved with the freedom caucus, no surprise. She's co chair of the congressional Second Amendment caucus, but I'm really excited about her new book. It's called my American life. I'm actually in the middle of reading it. Lauren, welcome to the podcast. Great to have you. Your life has been kind of a wild ride in the last couple of years. But I want people to sort of hear your story from the beginning. So talk a little bit. Walk us through the who is Lauren boebert and how did you end up where you are now? Yeah, so it's an amazing story. There's some incredible life experiences and I really, I wish that more members of Congress had the life experiences that I've had. They would have more of a better view on reality and how average Americans live and navigate through this life. But I was actually raised in a Democrat household. My mom was a single mom, and when I was four years old, she moved us to aurora, Colorado. And we thought that it was going to be this wonderful life living in the mountains and instead we were putting this crammed two bedroom apartment with two large dogs in aurora. And soon we later found out that my stepdad wasn't the dream man that he had painted himself to be with my mom. He became very abusive. And then throughout the years, there was a lot of drug and alcohol abuse. And it wasn't long before my mom was stuck. She was stuck in a cycle of abuse. There's always the extremes of the abuse and then the extremes of the sincerity of the apology that keeps these people stuck in this

House Budget Chairman Signifies the Stupidity Governing Our Country
"I want to share with you a clip. This was recorded at a rotary club meeting back in September of 2021. This is the chairman of the House budget committee who seems to think that all you have to do if you need money is go to the Treasury Department and say we need money and they write a check and it's all okay because you know what? It's just monopoly money. Who cares, right? Watch. We don't have the balance of. We don't like the bank or the novel question. We created one of the channels on Monday everybody else plays the game. I'm laughing but I shouldn't laugh. I should really be crying, okay? That is the chair. The chairman of the House budget committee, saying we are like the banker in monopoly. We create the money, everybody else just plays the game with it. That is the level folks of stupidity, we have this representative from Kentucky, a Democrat who thinks he can print money. This is the stupidity that's governing our country. And this is the reason why you are paying more at the gas pumps than you'll continue to pay more. This is why it costs more to feed your family. We won't even get into the baby formula supply shortage, which is a total mess that should have been dealt with far earlier on. We have stupid people in Washington, D.C., that affect really big policies.

US Rep. John Yarmuth to Retire From Congress
"Biggest news story yesterday that you don't know is a huge news story is this. John yarmouth is quitting. Now you don't know who congressman John yarmouth is, and thus you happen to be listening to me in Kentucky. He is represented Louisville for a long time. And he is quitting. He is also the chairman of the budget. Committee. So he actually had a big job. Why is he quitting? Because there is a tsunami coming. The Democrats have gotten everybody mad at them in record time. Joe Biden's numbers are slipping under the 44% approval number. The big news yesterday is that Terry mcauliffe is going down with the Biden ship, reached out desperately and asked, you know, he has to come campaign for him. Not the president of the United States. The former president of the United States Barack Obama. Barack Obama is going to show up, but I hate to break it the Democrats, you still like him I know, but he's not the crowd generator and he's not the enthusiasm manufacturer that he used to be, and you can't stop people like John yarmouth from saying, I'm done here. And you know why the Democrats are not quitting? All the Democrats in Congress are saying, no Mas no Mas. It's not just because of redistricting and Joe Biden's unpopularity. They all need a job when they lose. In the 2010 election. After the ObamaCare fiasco, which is not as big as the fiasco of the Biden spending. It's one third the fiasco of the bidens. When the American people don't like to spend money they don't have money that they're borrowing. You have any Democrats lost in 2010, 63. 63. That meant 63 Democrats looking for jobs in Washington D.C. and John yarmouth is smart and says, you know, I'm going to go find a job before I lose. I'm not going to get bailed out of time with everybody else on a red tide. I'm getting out of here. So that's a tell.

Can the Democrats Raise the Debt Limit Without Republican Help?
"Good morning The newspapers are full of contrived. Drama will the government shutdown. Will the stimulus bill passed will the three and a half trillion dollar social infrastructure. Bill passed what will happen to the squad. What about kristen cinema. What about joe manchin. Here's what my prediction is. Everything passes and they spend all the money after pretend drama. What do you think. Well if i had to guess from the outside and you don't really know I mean the best. Intel's the people managing the with news. Obviously and it's possible they don't know but my guess is immigrants are are not gonna leave that that One point two trillion infrastructure money on the table that they'll pass that at some point. You have always been skeptical that they could get another big reconciliation bill through the senate I don't i don't. I don't think it's just mansion. I think there's a half of those democrats who would prefer not to vote on something particular tax increases but we will see They're going to have. Typically i think getting the debt limit increase eventually seneca Because schumer did not put the instructions for one in the last budget resolution and So far saying i'm not gonna finance you know your deficit spending. They gotta go back to you on the budget committee. Jim where you're on your budget committee. I always avoided that. Well i think they've got to go back and amend the budget resolution reconciliation instructions. It takes two weeks. They better get started exactly. And that's the point and mcconnell's been saying this for months. He's the best republican wiedersen dole. In my opinion. I mean yeah. He's just and he's been saying for months. Look we're not gonna finance this enormous deficit spending. You're going to have to do it. And yet schumer did not put the instructions in the last budget resolution. So you're right. It takes a couple of weeks and I know that schumer is really faced up to that. Yes i think. I fought for months us. At the infrastructure bill would eventually passed. The house would take what the senate gives just as they did in two thousand nine. This is going to the house and not just because the progressives don't like it's not big enough it's going to sit there in the house and have the senate serve you a bill and say no. We're not going to conference. This is our bill. You taken a leave but they all passed macaire on that basis. I think they'll pass the bill. That's my guess

"Package media. Let's continue to struggle with the byzantine parliamentary maneuvers required to enable legislation to move through the senate under a simple majority process. The confusion has led to multiple cycles of coverage suggesting that this or that democratic priority had been killed or this or that provision had been approved but in reality. The bill is still being written with the ultimate authors. Picking from among the various pieces of text pass through committees ditching other elements and adding some that never went through the process. The destination for the legislation is the house budget committee and most importantly finally the house floor that pathway shifts the power dynamic at play democratic representatives kathleen rice. Scott peters and kurt schrader have been the focus of significant and well earned ir for blocking a measure in the energy and commerce committee. This week that would allow medicare to negotiate. Drug prices directly with pharmaceutical companies and the ways and means committee has taken heat for not including strong capital gains tax hikes in the title. They passed this week but party. Leadership can reinsert those provisions through. What's known as a manager's amendment in the case of prescription drugs for instance it means that those three members opinions on the provisions are only worth caring about if they're strong enough to drive them to vote the whole package down and if a member of congress as opposed to the bill entirely as trader has suggested that he is then what he thinks of any individual provisions is meaningless. Only his vote on the house floor matters. Both peters and rice for their part are expected to vote to approve the final package on the house floor. Having made their stand on behalf of big pharma in committee peters happens to sit on the budget committee where he can again. Register has objection harmlessly because the rest of the committee is broadly supportive of the drug pricing effort. The budget committee is chaired by representative. John yarmuth of kentucky. He's an outspoken progressive and has recently become an inherent of modern monetary theory other than peters. There aren't a whole lot of democrats on the committee to worry about one member who does have a centrist voting record. Jim cooper of tennessee is facing a serious primary challenge from the left back in his district from justice. Democrat odessa kelly. The budget committee is generally more progressive than more powerful.

"That that benefits them they'll get behind it but democrats need to find a way truthfully. Hopefully i i hear that they say well. We don't have the votes. They need to find a way to get the votes to abolish the filibuster. And just get good stuff done. Because here's the thing. Even if the filibuster is abolished and and democrats in the senator saying we just don't have the votes for it primarily because it's a fifty fifty tie in the senate. Commerce harris breaks the tie but of those fifty democrats several of them are functionally republicans including a joe manchin of west virginia and including one of the senators from arizona they basically function like republicans in in voted with donald trump in the majority of his policies. Which is disturbing and so democrats are going to have to find a way. And one of the ways that they're going to be able to lead is because bernie sanders is the head of the senate budget committee and when you are overseeing the budget committee there is a lot you can get done through. What's called the budget. Reconciliation process and bernie is an expert in that. He's he's been working on this basically for his entire adult life and As much as i wanted to see bernie as president or even bernie as the labor secretary which is something that bernie said. he wanted I know but he's gonna kick ass in the senate In the months and and In the weeks and months ahead and we need to. But we're going to have to pressure democrats to do right by us. And i don't know if they will even with that pressure but i damn sure know that they're not going to do right by us without the pressure. Democrats Reach Deal on $3.5 Trillion Price Tag for Infrastructure Bill
"On the Senate Budget Committee have reached agreement on $3.5 trillion in spending for their broad health care and anti poverty plan. They hope to touch education, climate change childcare and a range of other issues while they have control of Washington, with the top line number sent, lawmakers now need to craft details. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the agreement last night after an hours long meeting among the White House officials and members of the committee, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. We're going to create millions of good paying union jobs rebuilding this country, not only from a physical infrastructure but dealing with the human needs of our people. The price tag is short of the previous $6 trillion sought by progressives but is roughly in line with the four trillion sought by the White House. It ultimately is expected to have tax increases. Democrats are pursuing a process tied to the budget called Reconciliation to advance the bill through the evenly divided Senate without GOP support.

"Outs time for the last word. With lots donald. Anything arts rachel and while you were working We have breaking news on the biden infrastructure. Package the senate budget committee has unanimously democrats only on the reconciliation version of it. They have unanimously agreed tonight. the senate democrats on the budget committee to a three point. Five trillion dollar package Then chairman chairman bernie sanders will be getting through the budget committee. It includes met a medicare expansion for dental vision. Care and vision care. This is really the the. These numbers are extraordinary. But but the actual details of what's in this legislation include things that people have fought made sense for decades literally decades but never saw the opportunity. But here here. We are on the on the democrats only bill tonight Budget committee unanimous agreement. That means it's gonna make it out of the budget committee. Mark warner represents what you would probably consider the mansion wing of the budget committee bernie. Sanders represents The other side of the democratic party a they're all in agreement so lawrence on a scale of zero. Nothing's happening to one hundred. Joe biden is signing the legislation. Where does that put us on. The number line In terms of the end versus the beginning. But that this is what it's way up there of for this for this package of the bipartisan. Package is its own track and is holding together. A remarkably well present biden is going to do something truly extraordinary tomorrow. He's actually going to go to the senate democrats luncheon in the capitol tomorrow something. He went through for thirty six years as a senator. I know he went a few times as vice president. I personally. I never saw the president do that in either party When i was working in in the senate so it. It's a really rare thing. But i can almost feel joe biden's eagerness to get up there and really lock in the deal in the full senate The full democratic side of the senate tomorrow after what they've accomplished in the budget committee tonight. So you think that this gets us closer to the end then the beginning. I mean there's been so much talk so much about every procedural step here. And i sort of feel a little bit gun shy about which one of these new steps matters but on this one since it's democrats only you think this is. This is this is. This is a close to the dardel. The only suspense. If it is that that you're waiting to hear is what does joe manchin think. He's not a member of the budget committee. But you know mark warner and joe. Manchin are together on that bipartisan. Version of the bill They're very close together. I doubt that the budget committee would have ignored what joe mansion thinks in coming to this agreement but even if they did even if joe mansion as this proceeds wants to in some ways reduce the number. That's still possible. Within the way this moves. But i have to. I have to believe that. Joe mansions interests were probably very strongly represented by mark warner on that committee. Because what you wanna do is come out of the budget committee with the with the shape of what's really going to be and that information's available to you You know bernie. Sanders is in a meeting every week. It's this is a brilliant construction by chuck. Schumer i think but He's a meeting. Every week of bernie sanders with joe mansion in chuck schumer so called leadership team. Which at that table has joe manchin. Elizabeth warren bernie sanders has ten senators Who need to be in a room together for chuck schumer to understand. Exactly what is possible with all fifty members. It's a really good representative group of what you need to have on the senate floor so i really have to believe with all of that. Communication that bernie sanders and joe manchin have every week The chairman sanders knew what he had to do to get all not just the unanimous vote of his committee but all fifty senate votes on the senate floor. Hey thank you for explaining that. I did not understand that at all before you just explained it and be thank you for letting me interview you about this on your evening you some real estate. "Next guest has already made history in the house of representatives this year and he is going to make history again. It is a bit of history that he shares with bernie sanders. John yarmuth is the chair of the house. Budget committee senator. Sanders is the chair of the senate budget. Committee passed through their committees the single biggest budget resolution in history which became the legislative framework for president. Biden's covert relief built. And now john yarmuth and bernie sanders are going to do it again. They're going to pass another budget resolution. Which will be bigger than the first budget resolution that they passed this year and so to add to the historic nature of the second budget resolution. It will be the first time in history but the house and senate chairs. the budget. Committee's will have passed more than one budget resolution in the same year passing a budget resolution is the single most complex and difficult thing chair. A budget committee has to do after budget resolution is passed other committees of the house and senate go to work on the specific legislative changes that are only outlined in the budget resolution. It normally takes a few months for the committee's the to finish that work which they then send directly to the senate and house floors to be passed together in what is then called a budget. Reconciliation bill the reconciliation bill in bookkeeping terms reconciles the numbers that were outlined in the budget resolution with real and specific legislative changes in taxes and spending that add up to those same numbers today speaker. Bill that the senate will pass challenge facing chairman yonathan chairman. Sanders is that they have to write a budget resolution. That will get almost all of the democratic votes in the house and has to get all of the democratic votes in the senate and one of those democratic votes in the senate doesn't sound ready yet to give president biden everything. He's asking for in that bill if they think in reconciliation. I'm gonna throw caution to the wind and go to five or six trillion dollars when we can only afford one or one and a half or maybe two and what we can pay for then. I can't be there. Joining us now is democratic carson. John yarmuth of kentucky. He is the chair of the house. Budget committee the history-making chair of the budget committee chairman. mr chairman. You just you have that difficult position in the house of you could write a bill in the house. Budget resolution the house That could easily pass the house. But you know that you have to have something identical to what the senate passes in. You just heard joe. Manchin say what he believes at this stage. He's not willing to do. Biden, Dems prevail as Senate OKs $1.9T virus relief bill
"Senate. Democratic leaders have reached an agreement over unemployment benefits with moderate democratic senator joe manchin ending a nine hour. Standoff threatened to derail action on president biden's covert relief bill. The agreement would extend the existing three hundred dollar weekly unemployment benefit through september the sixth and it offers tax forgiveness and to ten thousand two hundred dollars in unemployment benefits for those who make less than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year in a statement released tonight. Senator manchin said we have reached a compromise that enables the economy to rebound quickly while also protecting those receiving unemployment benefits from being hit with unexpected tax bills. Next year joining us. Now on this breaking news democratic. Senator tim kaine of virginia he is a member of the senate budget committee. And the senate armed services committee senator. Kaine good to see you this evening on one hand. I'm not quite sure what what was happening. In the senate for nine hours on the other hand we have crossed an important hurdle at this point and are moving toward the passage of this bill. Tell me what is going on malley. You're right. I mean we've got fifty democratic senators and we need every one of their votes to get this bill which will do so much good for americans to president by his desk. Senator manchin hannah concern about the way the unemployment insurance benefits were structured. And he stuck to his guns and that concern was not my concern. I i really liked the bill as it came over from the house. I think we made it. Stronger of senator manchin needed some additional adjustments to get there. But now we're there and we're gonna rocket four and they're going to be dozens. Maybe hundreds of amendments that republicans will offer tonight and tomorrow but democrats. We have linked arms with president biden said. The american public needs this relief and they needed soon. And we're gonna stay at our desks and tell sometime over the weekend. We send this bill back to a house for a quick vote so the president by to get it next week four unexpected. It's obvious why so. Many americans support this bill. It's not actually a partisan thing it's money that people need in their pockets. It is overwhelmingly popular amongst americans. It is even supported by the majority of republican voters. What's going on. what's what's the reason for. Fifty republicans not voting in favor of this and by the way. No republicans voted in favor of it in the house alley. My my gut is this. I think they've made a strategic decision and remember just replay. The tape back to the beginning of the obama biden administration. They just sort of decided no matter what. The new president offers to rescue the american economy. We're going to be against it. I will say this. This is a bill. That is just chock full of of provisions that republicans have offered in past years. It's chock full of provisions that are desired by republican governors. And mayors as you point out it's full of provisions that are popular republican voters and when it's implemented it's gonna do enormous good for republicans and independents and democrats so they made a strategic decision. That and i can't put myself in their shoes about why they don't want to be four but will be able to bring the final bill out and show you. How much bipartisan Agreement there is this bill. The democrats are just riveted upon the fact. We're still ten million jobs down from where we were laying out here. We've lost five hundred thousand people. Were not out of the woods yet. We're not gonna go slow to go fast. Climb out of this crisis.

Stimulus plan stalls as senators debate unemployment aid

This comes after Wisconsin Republican Senator Ron Johnson forced to nearly 11 hour holed up on the bill. Forcing Senate clerks to read the massive 628 page legislative package out loud. Senate Budget Committee chair Bernie Sanders open the debate by introducing an amendment to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. That provision was included in the House's version of the bill, but it was thrown out last week by the Senate parliamentarian who ruled it was not permissible under budget reconciliation, Sanders says that process is wrong. It is an absurd process. That we allow an UN elected staff of somebody who works for the Senate, not elected by anybody. To make a decision as to whether 30 million Americans get a pay raise or not. I don't care how the parliamentarian rules. No parliamentarian should have that power. People here want to vote against raising them in ways you have that right? Want to vote for it? And I hope you do you have that right, But we should not shuffle off that responsibility. Toe What UN elected staff. That's wrong. Senate Democrats move immediately to "Plan B" on minimum wage
"Yesterday we told you That the parliamentarian head ruled that the dollar minimum wage does not pass muster for reconciliation and must be taken out of a covid relief. Bill now We clarified unlike most of the media. That the parliamentary and actually has no power whatsoever It is just give an advisory opinion is not an actual ruling. The person who does the ruling is actually the presiding chair of the senate was normally is the vice president so comma. Harris is going to have a huge part in this conversation now wants the parliamentarian gave her so called ruling. All the democrats immediately gave up on fifteen dollars minimum wage as things stand now they are going to be taking that provision is going to be taken out of the bill and we will not get fifteen dollar minimum wage for at least four years now. There is a way to prevent it. There are four steps here. I'm going to walk through all four steps and you will see that if we do this. It's actually very doable. To keep it in the bill and to actually win on this issue but it requires courage from progressives and then Requires us to put public pressure on some of our allies and then eventually to the biden administration and sure so step one is unfortunately right now the most important step and where we're going to have to call out bernie sanders bernie sanders. Is the chair of the budget committee. The chair of the budget committee the signs. What is in the kobe. Relief bill bernie sanders. Current plan is to take fifteen dollars minimum wage out of the covid relief. Bill that is a terrible idea. He should not do that. If corporate democrats are going to vote against let them vote against it but doing it on their behalf. i cannot overstate. What a bad idea that is in that scenario that right now is what is going to happen unless we change it together bernie would kill the fifteen dollar minimum wage on behalf of joe manchin and joe by. He should not do that. So that's this is step one. I'm going to get to the other steps in a second guys. I need you to immediately participate. We've got a campaign we've got a partition and and we've got hashtags. We must do all of the above and the campaign is called. Don't kill it bernie because yes step one indisputably. It is a matter of fact. Is that the budget chair decides if it goes in the bill that is bernie sanders. That was the whole point of him being budget share. If he's going to take out. Fifteen dollar minimum wage will take out every provision the joe manchin and joe biden are opposed to that means we will get no progressive priorities past none. The fifteen dollars. Minimum wage was literally the bare minimum. It was the first ask of progressives so bernie. You've got to keep it in the bill because if he does not keep it in the bill. It's over that hashtag fight for fifteen. There is no more fight. That means progressive surrender. I'm being honest with you. Guys our job is to do the news. Those are the facts of how this process works so go to the petition. All right and here. Let's put it up for you guys and it's simply called. Don't kill it bernie. And what is saying is we don. T have a clear message. Don't take it out of the bill. It's one hundred percent your call on whether you keep it in the bill or take it out of the bill. Do not do that because if you take it out of the bill and you kill it then we will not be able to get back to it for four long years and there's no reason for it so and and if you're tweeting about this at all please use hashtag. Don't kill it bernie. Because we must get senator sanders to turn around. There are no other steps if he takes it out of the bill now if he keeps it in the bill now let me walk you through how we could actually win on this step two would be since it's in the bill. The presiding officer of the senate would have to rule to take it out of the bill. So kamala harris who in her role as the vp would normally be the presiding officer. The senate would have to actively vote with republicans or side with republicans the and the parliamentarian for what it's worth again. The parliamentarian has no vote. No power just gave a rando opinion on what they think they should do it. The republicans would never care about it. It it has no force of law at all. in fact it's being used as an excuse by kamla harris show schumer and the others to kill a provision. They were never in favor of so. Then we have to put pressure on comma harris to not side with mitch mcconnell. Can we do that. Yes yes we can definitely do that. If chuck schumer wants to protect com la- harris and he puts another senator in as the presiding officer. Will they will put pressure on chuck schumer. Would you like to continue to be the senator from new york. There are a lot of progressives in new york very very strong. Progressives in new york that could easily take that seat not easily but that could certainly have a shot at taking that seat. So now here's the most part steps three if she decides to take it out of the bill. There's nothing we can do about it comma harrison show schumer will then actively be saying okay. We killed the fifteen dollar minimum wage because we never wanted in the first place but if we get past that step and go. You win you win. We're keeping it in the bill. Then mitch. Mcconnell would object. Mitch mcconnell would then say. I want to appeal the ruling of the chair. Now here's a great news. Since joe manchin a cinema cap the filibuster and so two joe biden. They would need sixty votes to overrule the chair. So that means they need to break our filibuster to overrule the ruling of the chair. They're not gonna get sixty votes. We win okay. There is a separate more but understand before we go to step four step. Four is awesome but right now you understand how simple it is with. Depression brought to keep it in the bill. We have to pressure mention not mansion comma harris and chuck schumer to not side with republicans. Why god is a progressive movement. If we can't do that what can we do. Do we have any power or don't we have any power. Were about to find out. And then step for is if the republicans cannot break the filibuster. The mcconnell has one last option and this is wonderfully ironic. He would have to ask for fifty vote margin and straight up and down. Vote to kill the filibuster in regards to the votes of the presiding chair of the senate now mansion cinema have said that and biden said that the filibuster is the most precious thing in the world to them. So what are they going to. Now turn around just to make sure you don't get higher wages and they're gonna vote to kill the filibuster in this regard. I mean you would be the most spectacularly hypocritical thing they have ever done and they've done some pretty hypocritical fix so you put them in an near impossible situation and it is incredibly doable but step one is do not surrender. Guys one last thing before we go to john and jordan. There's ninety two billion dollars online. This would be a pay raise for about thirty million americans and to the tune of ninety two billion dollars every single year the reason why biden mansion and the republicans don't want to do it is because the chamber of commerce is dead set against it they are those business interests are giant donors to both the republican party and the democratic party. And those donors are saying. I wanna keep the ninety two billion dollars. I want to give it to my workers. I want to keep their wages incredibly low now go do my bidding. And they do now. Bernie is not in that camp. But he's getting pressure from the other democrats to take it out of the bill. We in a sense have to back them up by saying bernie. We do not agree. We do not agree. Don't kill it bernie. Don't kill it
