"Make a difference was just. It was all about that. We have a few minutes. Let's go rapid fire. Through some of the bud career highlights a first impression of tim duncan humble amazing not a good summer league player reaction in vantage point of the ray allen shot in game six of the twenty thirteen finals. Probably the the most painful shot. Although there's too. But i'll just i'll keep it one of the most painful shots moments In in in my basketball career. Coaching lives Just hard to believe That had happened to be that close and then to to not finish it That hurt what's the other one. Derek fisher point four. Oh yeah that's that was different different place different time not the finals serve but man those two shots boy those all those sober you up. Real quick much has been written about the spurs dinner after that game and The tone of it and pop going around to everybody and telling everyone like we got game seven. We've got a group here. I know we're paying. Let's all let's all eat together. Let's all be in the same room together. Whose table are you at. And what do you remember from that dinner. How i the coaches usually sat together. So i think you know usually it's mostly assistance and pop and you know you're you're you're eating talking about the game trying to figure things out you're trying to pick the spirit of the group up and pop works the room. And so. I'm sure i was with with you. Know brett brown and and the crew all of us that were there at that time and the and yeah you know i mean i guess some point you gotta pick yourself back up and you know gotta got thinking about know game salvadoran bad opportunity and i remember almost the dinner after game. Seven more So yeah those those those moments are you know. I think help form you. And you know like i said you gotta gotta kinda new forward and get ready kind of mentally emotionally. Start thinking you know can. Let's let's think about the next game. Get ready for that. Why don't you remember the game. Seven one more. Yeah as little my last. Bright brad and san antonio my my last time with that organization that team and john on a plane. The next morning You know to start to the post spurs life It was tough between game six and break bread same place and then you you you lose game seven Your your season's done and really It's it's time for me to move on so yeah that that break bread all it stands out to me well. Brett brown also left that off season. And i've asked him this before he left to go coach. The sixers you leave to go coach the hawks you watch the spurs comeback and avenged not avenge because it sounds mean but like rise up from one of the hardest defeats really in basketball history. And not just rise up but sort of reached. This crescendo of everything. We've been building toward as a team in an organization peaks the exact right time and we played this beautiful basketball in the miami heat of lebron james or overwhelmed by how. We're playing watching that from afar. Was there a party. there was like goddamn. I missed this. I mean. I'm so happy that i'm coaching the hawks that i missed this like i. Did you feel left out yeah. I don't know what the feeling was and i. I went to one of the games. I think i went to game was in san antonio the night where there was no air conditioning and the building was like just like a sauna and the basketball was just I think some of the most beautiful basketball. If you believe in bob movement people movement and you know all that stuff that i i do just so believe in it was. It was amazing and i. You don't feel left out. But you look like i think i was just blown away with how How great they play like. It was just they were clicking and just just amazing plants such high level and in the end to see how they approach the season the mission they were on the the drive the focus and it was just and then for it to culminate in this. Just you know really really really great basketball Yeah it was it. But you know i think to be a head coach and the body was the time and so it's very happy for them. and really just happy to see that kind of basketball being played on the court last one. And i'll let you go. And i wanted to end here. Because it puts the whole journey kind of into perspective. Somebody told me who is with your from very early. Spurs days said ask bud. Bob hill was the coach. When you got spurs now pop pop was the gm but who was the coach. Yeah said ask. But about after every game carrying bob hills briefcase and his suit jacket back to the bus. That was part of buds job in one thousand nine hundred whatever carrying bob bills. And that's not a bad thing about bob bill. That's just what let the low level video guys or whatever. You got the briefcase. You've got the suit. Jackie and remember that every game i was told is that right. There's some somewhere along there at some offensive edits defensive edits and you know film and you know it's like you said when you're with your bottom of the ladder. You're basically doing anything you can to try and help you know the the head i i. Would you know whether it's sued the briefcase at fell. I you kind of do everything. When you're an esl every video coordinators come through. This league knows what it's like to. You're you're doing everything and it's it's great because you get opportunities to whatever you're picking up knowledge guys upset. He's happy thinking about practice. The next day you know and add it what we gotta do. so yeah now you when your video guy especially back in those days and it's really hasn't changed at all you you literally are. You're taking a briefcase in the suit to boss or whatever it takes It's part of it's part of your journey And i i learned a ton You know. I think any video coordinator tell you. That's the best place in the world to start If you're going to be in the nba you starting a video road. You're gonna come out. You know. I think your knowledge is just It grows at the same level. Well now you're now. You're the head coach of the nba champions. You'll be the defending champions for at least a year or so a little less than a year. I guess here Well-deserved look at you and i have known each other a while we've had our back and forth over the years but those hawks teams have always had a special place in my heart. Obviously that spurs team is a basketball fan. Loved the spurs team and to see your bucks to see yanna. And chris middleton who. I wrote a big profile on a couple years ago. Interviewed you for it. Come from second round. Pick castaway in detroit to this Brook lopez had weird career path. J. tucker grind grinds and grinds and ends up drinking champagne. all his. it's it's it was a fun story of fun run and Really you know we cover this league. We gotta cover it hard and aggressively and and honestly but at the end. There is a good feeling in watching people who have committed their lives to the game reached reached the end of it reached the moment of ultimate glory. So i- heartfelt congratulations. It's well deserved. Get some downtime in the off season get right back at it because now everyone's going for you now. Yeah we'll we'll be back at it before you know it so three shaded zach fun to do this in three shit. You know all the your knowledge and it's good stuff. It's good for the league so glad we could do this. Thanks coach be well advocates summer..

"I think just the the deep conversations the meaningful conversations in and even you know one of the guys that saying that this is. This is a big this week. we've got to. We've got to embrace this and we got to know how big this is if we're going to do this It's big and and i think for the players to understand that and embrace it and then you know listen to them to talk. And how can how can this be the most meaningful the most impactful. How can we really try and help. Help create change. Help keep change You know happening. And and you know the our country our world improving and and to see that worked together and have the conversations and work on the statement and You know speak with political leaders from the locker room and just the i mean it. It was it was It was really powerful to see. You know how our guys just understood the importance of it. Kind of embraced. It tried to make it as impactful as possible And you know we. We've said it a bunch of times. I think you know you feel like you're on the right side of history. There was a i. Think a history making moment And i think our team our league players in our league not just the bucks but the whole league in our. I think i think on the right side of history that day and destroyed help our country move forward and be better. Let me recount something. I heard from the locker room and you can tell me if it matches your memory. The bucks don't come out people realize okay. The bucks aren't coming out. A league official comes in. And i heard somewhere between asks the bucks to maybe reconsider playing or just sort of softer. The net says. Do you guys really want to do this. You understand what's happening here blah blah. That person leaves and the players by this point of already decided they've already had all these discussions of players have already decided. We're not playing that person leaves. There's some silence and in that silence. The players are maybe looking for someone to say to respond to. This person are we. Are we doing this. And from what. I've been told maybe for one of the first time you talk and you just look at the players and say something like i think we all know what we have to do here and the players remember that and saying you know bud bud let us do it but let us take the leadership of it but after that moment he stood in front of us and said we gotta do right. Does that match your memory of things not going to confirm or deny the rumor I i actually. There's so much from that. That day and the sequencing of how everything happened I'd be like if i said exactly how it went down. I i i think we all had a moment to speak. We all had a moment to. There's just so much leadership in that locker room at that moment. And certainly i think the coaches wanted to let the players leded but at some point i do think there is. I think you know the the role of the coaches like you know. There's lots of conversation. There's lots of debate. there's On lots of things So it's not that uncommon at point. You know i guess I do have a wreck to say okay. Something along the lines of what you just said and there there is somebody that I think has to partner with with the leadership in that group. And say we're all doing this together and we know what's right and and again i think the the being on the right side of history and just try to do something good and make a difference was just. It was all about that. We.

"Three on one shot clocks off jaanus. Is streaking down the middle. All this is happening right in front of you. The lob goes up. What are you my boot and hosmer thinking in that moment as the lab goes up. Thank god you honest is art scene like you know just when the ball goes up for him it and i. I know you know where this is going to clock and you know. It's maybe not the smartest the textbook thing but you know drouin janas just flying on instincts. Maybe they're playing just like we talked about their plan. Free and I was pretty confident. The honest was gonna get it Wasn't sure why drew past it. But you know when you play with honest. Your confidence is just through the roof. And you know in some ways you know free throws or not automatic and throw a lobster jaanus in goes and gets it. You know it's too and You know you still up three and you gotta get a stop and have not score. Thought i just. I'm grateful for drew for making still and yata spend him and Those instinctual plays that. I i love our guys. It's a play with that kind of confidence and to believe that. The belief that the drew hasn't y- honest to go get it Special and all through it all. I think the craziest thing that happened in the entire playoff run or at least the most statistically improbable was jaanus going seventeen of nineteen from the free. Throw line in the clinching game when that's happening. Is it like a no hitter where no one is allowed to talk about. Oh my god honest. Jaanus is hot at the line. Like did you joke about it. After the game with them like dude. Where did that come from. 'cause i remember watching me like he's making every throw what's happening. No certainly did not talk about the game and and really. Don't talk to him. You know about free. Thas very much a during james and you know after the game I think it's just to me. I've thought about how hard it works. What a complete game he had and how many great games he said you know. During during the three years. I've been with him but to really make it totally complete and to be phenomenal from the free. Throw line kind of that. I don't know it was. Just i think for him for us For for to see how much he works out important. He has to us Just to have that you know what he did defensively what he does just everywhere but for everywhere to include a free throw line Really really cool and You know a lot of fun for him. A lot of fun for us So yeah now we. I haven't talked. I'm just. I'm assuming that's gonna that's gonna be the new bar. He's going to have to do that every night. you know going forward. Well i always tell people. Like if if i asked you to guess what janas free throw percentages for his career in the regular season people guests like fifty eight fifty nine. It's seventy two if he just shot seventy two percent at the line in the playoffs. Nobody would talk about any of this. It'd be a complete non-issue people people miss that by leaps and bounds. All the time. So you guys win. And i asked coaches this every year. there's a celebration. I don't know where you guys went to celebrate but there's drinks tres food the family and friends or there you're going around talking to everybody Was there from wherever you guys. Were in milwaukee celebrating that night. That night specifically i know celebration goes on. There's a parade and all that is there a conversation with somebody through all that chaos. Is there a moment with somebody. Through all that noise at madness that you will always remember amid the blur like someone that you had a moment with some someone that said something that took you back a little bit. Was there a moment like that. Maybe it's even with your family now with anyone with the team. I don't know what stands out. Yeah i don't know if it's a moment but you know For me i. I'm the youngest of seven. So i had all six of my siblings together which either i don't know if this is a good thing right should say but we. We don't get all seven of us together very often. So have all seven of my siblings. My for kids to do that. Kind of family thing and for everybody just to participate in it and You know just it's it's When you're from a big family and you get to share it with everybody and you can just feel that i guess family law family pride. It's really really cool. I think from going to to the to the post game. I don't think we could call that a break brad. It was like break the city But to do it with with all my brothers and sisters and my kids just to fill everybody's so happy for you so proud and You know. I think that will always stand for me I'm assuming you are not gonna wanna talk about this at all. But i have to ask you and then i'll talk about it I assume you would like to get a contract extension after winning championship. Yes i'd love to coach the milwaukee bucks like the next twenty years. So yeah i'm going to ask for twenty years to see that's that's our starting point. Well i look. I said we talked about it on. Tv on the jump was me and robert ory. And i said look i. This is what i said. I've called bud stubborn. I've called bud doctrinaire but you know what just happened. They won the championship. And i said if we don't reward people for winning. I don't want to hear about the injuries that other teams had like all. That stuff is real. It happens every year. The bottom line is they. I said on tv. So i'm just repeating what i on. Tv it's not new listeners. I already said it said if you if we don't reward people when they win what are what are we even doing here like even if you feel that that's all i'll we move on from there the other the other Moment that i have to ask you about is you guys. Were obviously at the center of not just sports but history. For a moment in orlando when you didn't come on Didn't come on the floor to play against the magic in the first round of the playoffs. In the bubble in the wake of the jacob lake shooting in kenosha wisconsin. I think obviously though the whole sportsworld stopped at that moment and then there was the whole big meeting in the bubble. I i have so before you afterwards. But i wanted to. What you remember from discussion in the locker room and from whatever you you let everyone. The coaches sorta let stood back and let the players talk and decide. But what you remember from sort of witnessing that in when you knew okay it. It appears that we're going to take this step. Yeah i mean.

"Going to give you the floor at a second. Because you deserve the floor on this. But a lot of the fretting. About the milwaukee bucks from two thousand nineteen till right up when you went in in two thousand twenty. One has focused on you. And i know that you tune it all out your bigger than it. You're not on twitter seeing what bucks twitter bat bucks twitter if you ever want to go down a black hole bud. I suggest you take a minute. Now that you won and start looking at bucks twitter because they are they are as as fierce a fiefdom as exists on mba twitter but you became more than anyone in the organization. The avatar for whatever frustrations fans had and it's surrounded the idea that mike booted holder is a great regular season coach but he doesn't adjust in the playoffs. Why don't we switch more. Why are we still playing this. Drop defense. why is our offense stuck in mud. Why can't budge the lineup this way. Why can't bud run more. Plays like this. And instead of the same old thing. And i have i have said i am not i said. The criticism was over the top. But i've also said. I think i've used the word stubborn to describe you. I think i've used the word doctrinaire to describe you will now. You're a champion bud. So the playoff adjustments happened and they worked and you won. So i'm giving you the floor. And what i'm sure on some level you you knew that. Noise existed in that line of criticism existed. What has been. And what is your response to that. Notion that quote unquote. Bud doesn't adjust my first car. Is i'm not sure i know doctrinaire is i. I'm gonna have to google it while we're doing this podcast but i don't. I really don't have much response. It's it's There's things there's habits there's ways of plying and things you believe in and i i in some ways If you've been through a gazillion playoffs whether it's being an assistant coach head coach Player i. I sometimes laugh at how much the adjustments are overrated are over discussed and If certainly a part of it and we've done our best for three years we've been knocking on a door. We've had really good teams. And luckily i don't go down those black holes. I don't really wanna go down the black all the bay i i you know. I think we've had great teams Hopefully coaching has been Put them in the best position and you go play in the some years you win it and when you don't you get a lot of criticism you get a lot of critique and It's just a part of it i i. Fortunately just don't listen to it and You know got a lot of faith in the team and the players an organization. I feel the same from the app. So yeah. I don't really. I don't want to say anything about myself or justification or feels better or anything like that. It's part of coaching. You just sign up for it you do it you do the best. You can and Each year there's a different outcome and we're fortunate to be champions and Very appreciative of that but I'm kinda the same guy was two years ago when we lost and last year when we lost. It's it's It's a lot of noise. And i don't know that it's healthy for any of us or at least for me so you just kind of move on and get ready for the next season. Would i really wanted you to say with. You can all stick it. That i really wanted you to say you know what but i really want. I thought maybe if i made myself part of it you at least look at me as say you can stick it. You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Well that's disappointing. The diplomatic of you. Let me let me throw a theory at you. Because i talked to someone who knows well and we talked about this adjustment quote unquote issue and this person's theory. Was this when when you see bud in the locker room before games saying let it fly play loose be random but let it fly. He really thinks he he truly does words. Meena lots of him about how he thinks players play best and how the sport flows best. Don't over think just go and play if you think it's gonna if you think too much it's going to. It's going to create problems. Just go out there and play free and this person syria was maybe adjustment. Stuff is sort of part and parcel of that. He doesn't want guys overthinking out there. 'cause they'll let it fly thing it's not just a catchphrase to him. It's something deeper than that. It's something you really about best. What is there any sort of dots to connect their. Do you know what i mean. Yeah no i mean. I i i would definitely. There's a you know whether you wanna call philosophical belief in approach away to just kind of You know hopefully put the players in their best position to to succeed in play well and and i think that's the greatest challenge of a coach. is not to overload them and there's such a fine line between overloading players having them think too much and having them just mentally a little bit bogged down versus just playing and competing. We talk about competing. Let it fly. Playing free playing random. I think i. I guess the argument that this person is making and i would agree with and that maybe you know. Feel some of the stuff. You're talking about a few. I i think if you if you put your money on on on playing free playing confidence Plank kind of without being bogged mentally. That gives your best chance to win in. The playoffs gives your best chance to win. In general you start getting into a bunch of justice you start getting into thinking and over thinking things I've seen it go the other way where you know. It sounds great in the in the theater. It sounds great on the court. The players all agree then. Also you know you're in front of eighteen thousand fans the pressure all those things in and you can really kind of get bogged down in in the mental side and all that so there there is For sure a belief in in playing free and playing with manson and competing at the end of the day that the team that competes the hardest plays the artist And and makes the least mistakes. And how do you make mistakes as it. By being mentally frears it'd be mentally down and it's a fine line you just gotta find that honey spots But yes there's a lot of truth to kind of you know what you just described and how we how we coach and how we pro games before games after games films practices I think we want them to be free. We want them to compete another moment from this run. That did happen right in front of you. That i do need to ask about is one. Twenty-one nineteen in phoenix game. Five you lead. Phoenix is the ball devon booker spins and goes into his move with a chance to put the sun's up by one chance to take a three two in the finals drew holiday strips him. Ju holidays coming down..

"Today's interview has been fueled by gatorade. Whatever path you take the greatness. Gatorade is there to feel it. Greatness starts g and now the low welcome to the low post podcast were. Traditions must be observed even if they are observed three weeks late and one tradition. That i have somehow finagled on this stupid show. Is that the coach of the nba champions after they win after some celebrating comes on this silly podcast that tells them stories. Steve kerr did it. Nick nurse did it. Tyler didn't do it. Because i didn't know him at all at the time. Frank vogel did it and after much browbeating borderline coercion. The head coach of the 2021 nba. Champion milwaukee bucks is here mike putin holes. Or how are you doing great zach. Doing you better be doing great. You're a champion yeah. No that doesn't get all so Now it's been It's been a good two or three weeks Enjoying it all and you know just kinda trying to take in the moment. It was a hell of a run. It was a dramatic run. Let's recount some of the moments from it. Are you ready. i'm ready. let's do it. Kevin durant foot on the line game seven in brooklyn. I just watched it right now. It was in front of the nets bench. I can't see your reaction in the video clip. I can't see what you did. Did you know it was the to. What did you do. Who was the first person you talk to. What was the reaction. Yeah no. I had no idea. And i might gut feeling was probably it was three and i was You know obviously that would have been heartbreaking. So i i think it was. Saint saint All over the sideline you know one of my assistants that Helps me with everything and the game situations. And it's i think we just made eye contact and it's like was that a two or three and nobody knew and i. I think felt a little better when you saw the the referees gone to the to the monitor and you had hoped and i mean i guess we've all seen the picture where Thank god whatever size. He is We needed we needed every every one of those inches. Or whatever it is what do you remember of the huddle before overtime. I mean that's as big of a timeout break is there is going to be your career. I asked these questions and the answer is usually like it's just normal. We talked about how we're gonna play in all this but do you remember a certain feeling. Do you remember somebody's speaking. You remember just speaking you remember of that now. It felt like you know we. We certainly had had fill like a couple opportunities to win the game. And and just can't remember a little bit. I contact with jrue holiday andrews light. You know. I don't know that verbalize it but he gave you that. Look like i got this. We got this. And i think there was confidence In the hall and know we said that about drew all year i think he's brought up poise and confidence to our team and You know that. I just i remember looking at drouin. Georgia's giving you that. Look like we're gonna get this and You know he did it all year. And that was you know that. That's probably my most vivid memory of that time out and They delivered four to two. I think was or i guess. Break at the two free throws at the end to make it sixty two. It was a a thrilling overtime game. so yeah. I guess it doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do. It you were down to in that series game too was was a pretty bad one. I remember being in la during the jump that week and the commentary was pretty hard on. You guys It didn't it didn't look great. It kind of felt like your we go again with the bucks. Can they recover from this internally. How did you circle the wagons or did you. Did you think we're going home. I have confidence in us going home. Like take me inside what it feels like. It's only the second round. It's not the conference finals. I know you're playing the prohibitive favorite in the east so it feels like it's a late playoff round but it would have been would have been early for you guys to go out so take me into to. Oh i don't know if there's a coach's meeting of the flight back like what stands out from that. Yeah i mean it's crazy. 'cause the plastic so log it feels like without you know two seasons ago but i think that there was You know we watched a lot of film. They were playing at a really high level. And i think you know they the the guys around durant and harden irving and then i think at that time there was durant irving and and harden was yet to play the the the the guys with them were playing so well. The ball was moving. They were passing it and you know we just thought how can we. Maybe maybe change that that feel that rhythm That they had Defensively were there any things that we could hopefully be a little smarter. A little better and change The look in especially for the guys around him and you know i think the the game three will always be the one that stands out to me of all the games on the run so but i don't even i don't even remember game free. What happened he gave other than you want. I don't really remember game. Three off the top of my head. What happened eighty eight. And that was the rodney fight. That was the game that was the detroit pistons and you know any. Whoever that is they played all those years. And it's like i just can't believe in twenty twenty one. There was a playoff game between the brooklyn nets with all the talent they have and all the talent we have. The final score was eighty six to eighty three. And you know we. I if you don't win that game. I think you know everything's different. Everybody knows you know how important that third game is when you're down to l. and just to win it that way to win it ugly I think it was it was just. It's it's a little bit of we are Take pride and being good defensively. It's i i you know. We eat out. Eighty six points To to win so that that was you know that that game and just the score the way it happened. That one really sad. I don't know that. I remember a whole lot else that the final was eighty six eighty three and i just shake my head You were on the other end of it. I i think the forgotten playoff game if there is one from sort of your bucks time and and the bucks time is an elite team was another game three where the scenario was the opposite and that was game three in toronto. When you were up to and everything was going your way that game is i believe a double overtime game and then that that begins the four straight losses and then you then you go on and have i guess disappointing series. The next series against miami The next season against miami but that game. That game was so close to going to be to being over. I mean what you remember but from that game but all the criticism that its followed that like that one game flips the other way everything is different. Know again had lot of the details. Are you know kind of blurry. But the the the the double overtime stands out you know and obviously i'm sure both teams have multiple channels. You're going double overtime and you just you know you win that game everything's different and A lot of things could be different than they are today. But it's part of life. It's part of sport I love the way janas. And trust and and john horse the organization and the way they responded to everything And we just try and keep knocking on the door You want to have a team that can compete for championships and we. We didn't get done that year. whether it's a double overtime game three or i think we're up. We're a big game for or a insects game six and You know things happen. In every every every organization products got to the championship level or points. As maybe had some of that. Maybe there's a rare exception where it's just smooth and everything Goes i guess. According to flanders best is as can be imagined but Yeah no i mean it may be makes you know Winning at this year sweeter and more meaningful and The guys have certainly put the time at work and effort bent through some heartbreak and So to break through Makes you know..

"They were nine and 31 from three. And you love the other team to 23 point shots. And the other team shot nearly 50% from the field. No, it's a tough spot you down 02. You got to say something. You don't want the players to think that the coach has lost belief in this team. But if we put Mike Budenholzer on a lie detector last night He would be lying off the charts. He's gonna tell me this team got better. And I told you it's going into the game last night, Makin It may be my biggest pet peeve in sports. When I hear these words, I cringe. Oh, we're going home and then also, Hey, A series isn't over. And you don't get worried. That's what people tell me. But I also didn't say this, but that's what he means by when we're going home. I hate when people go. Oh, you don't press the big fat red panic button until you lose one on your home court. You down. 02? Yeah. Zero pulse in the first two games. The other team ran circles around you and every facet of the game. Monty Williams is out. Coach your ass. The Suns players have totally been so much better than your team. Game One was an inspiring game two other than Yanis. What is there to write home about? This guy is going to basically tell me after the game home, we got better. What did you get better at? And now we're not worried because we're going home. Give me a break Bs. This is all things that needs to be taken into context. So I think that quote is valuable when a team if they would have lost both games in overtime, or by by three points combined. Then you take that quote because we lost both, and there's still a decent We have our home court. We can very easily. We still talked me into winning the series exactly when it comes out to this way. Now It's just a bull quote to just say something and get something out because it's very easy to say that and to be fair, Like what else? Are you going to tell the team after the game, and there's cameras in your faces and all of that? No, No, I disagree as a coach, your job is to keep them up for the next game. There's no you can't give up. Now you're down to a even though you've looked as bad as you've looked. What else are you gonna tell them? No. You're going to say nose to the grindstone. Let's go. We're taking Game three. I would have rather have had that approach. He basically told me last night, Okay? We're not concerned, which which is fine, but the part that really got under my skin. Was we got better. What suggested you What showed you what was tangible to grab from Game number two. That told you? Oh, the bucks got better. I keep on saying it's the honest Janice wasn't bad in game number one, he was dominant in Game number two. It was a waste of performance. If I am, though, a box fan, and if that's the only thing you could tell me is Yannis. Well, I just saw in game number two. Yannis plays great of the game that you play can't be much better than that. This team still didn't show up. We knew this was a problem going into the postseason. It was Middleton and then drew holiday. Were they going to be able to show up when it mattered the most and all throughout the postseason? Sure, there's been some bumps. There's been some turbulence Game one Middleton at the game winning shot against the heat. They sweep the heat in four. They're down to all against the Nets injuries that factor into that series late in Game seven, though Middleton did not play well early on Through. Holly didn't play well early on. When the moment mattered that when the moment was the biggest and the lights shine down the brightest, those guys showed up. In the last round. Janice gets hurt. I know Trae Young also got hurt. Give credit to Middleton had 23 points in the third quarter of that close out game. True holiday and Milton played well and they won two games. This is the different though, And even though the sons have had some injuries in the finals they've never had Catastrophic injuries. And unless the only way I can make an argument right now for the Bucks win in this series Is either Chris Paul. For Devin Booker gets hurt. As long as Chris Paul and Devin Booker are able to play. I don't see how you make an argument right now for the bucks to win this series, and I was the fool that told you a few days ago that the bucks we're gonna win in seven. Barring injury, there's they have no chance. They're losing this series in five or six and Zach For a two sports that had excellent post seasons in the NHL and NBA. Both finals have been awash. The Stanley Cup final was pathetic. It was and I love hockey, but it was unless if you were a Tampa Bay fan, it was boring. And sure Vasilevskiy was awesome. And that Tampa team is is wonderful. Being back to back Stanley Cup champions this the NBA Finals. I was convinced we were going to get a really good finals. I picked Bucks and seven. I even said it when I said it was all right, so that you have a lot of confidence behind the pick. It would not surprise me. Either way, who ends up putting this series the way this series is playing out, though? We're right now, if you made me make a prediction Would probably tell you sons and five I won't go sons and four because I do think that the bucks are going to be able to find a way to take one on their home court. But on the in the same breath I look at Phoenix. I thought going in Haven't said last night they will split in Milwaukee. That's why last night was so imperative to me. Milwaukee other than Yannis and a little bit of Pat. Content on come on, No one shot showed up. And you guys did not get better. For Bud. You're right if they lost on a heartbreaking shot at the end, three point shot bridges just drills that are Booker just drills it in the corner. Alright, you could sell me on you got better. Would love to be in that locker room and just follow pay. But how exactly did the bucks got better? And you know why we're here? Charlie Brown stuff. What? What? What? What? What? What's wrong? This series is over. Sons are one in the series. The question just becomes and.

"All day but all morning for sure. We thank you for joining us john. Jay we'll zubin al-anon monica mcduck dutch. We'll join us from phoenix at the nba finals jay. How many days away from training camp bar. We fourteen two weeks allen you tasty khloe with that in mind. We have our road to camp. We go with confidence meter for teams contending for a super bowl this year. We did a handful of teams earlier in the show. And pats gonna join us now to go through some more teams and decide what our confidence level is on these teams based on a one through ten scale. Yes a one to ten j. We'll start with you on this one on your giants. How confident are you that they can contend for a super bowl first off. I don't know how i feel about this question. Considering your diehard eagles fan you want me to join your misery. But i i will indulge i. I'm a. I'm a five. I'm a five just because i we have the pieces. Yeah i'm fine. Yeah the meat. Let's talk for a second here. We go because dale jones. This makes me worried. And i feel like. I'm starting to become allan hahn and i'm having anxiety when i think about dj. Obviously he's a duke alumni. I wanna see him take the next step in his career. This is the year where it's like him. And dave gettleman. This is it like either. We're going to find out if your quarterback for the future which i want you to be because you also come from school or if you're not it's time to move on because we have the pieces around this. Can you go day cadavers. Tony i mean we have saquon barkley. Finally back we worked on offense of line. We are there but we need to see it. Come and complete and not depends upon daniel jones getting there so i'm not sure i'm nervous. That's where i'm at. That's where i tell you what i feel like. You're five is a bit optimistic going more like under five. I'll take the under if five is the over under. I'll take the four confidence. I don't know why that's some jet stuff. Monica that's some jets. Don't listen to jets the jets. It's just what i see. It's a quarterback that has to be the lynchpin and you. He has to prove he can stay healthy by the way and again a defense that i'd also like to see pick up where they left off at the end of last season. I don't know if they will. And in a division where the cowboys are going to dominate lawsuit has dominate is dominant fix. I'm going by both of you guys. Because i think is i think he's going to raise rise to the occasion. I think that Judge and that gang they were turning. It's beginning to turn a corner bit last year. But and i'm going with momentum sticking for all the reasons. Ajay would have made the playoffs. If it wasn't goals that far away and again like i don't buy that the cowboys are going dominate the division but the division is quite honestly a tossup between at least three in my mind. I'm sorry that that's why this was a trick. Question led by pat obviously to start off the whole conversation. Let's go ahead pass to another trick. Question on join us in the misery please The new york jets from one to ten. How confident that they can contend for zero. I mean that's fair one. Why why are they sign. You heard fowler rude next moving on. I still love my jets so you can love them and they could be horrible horrible but super bowl not yet maybe i mean how would you describe the jets. How would i describe them coming. Jay humming oh you like. You're like monty williams. I like it or not calling somebody out. You're calling them up. I like words have power. Yes what else. We got the la rams monica starting with you. How confident are you that they can contend for super bowl from one to ten. I really you know. I'm gonna go on my fingers you i. I'm gonna go legal. I'm gonna go nine. That's fair. I'm not gonna go quite all inten. Is this match that. Sean mcvay wanted so desperately. It was so excited about. Is it really going to be thing. That unlocks the squad. We've got to see. I mean love that defense. We know that they can do. It's funny because when this trait went down. I think i was filling in like golick or something and we had some callers from detroit was like hey just just. Beware buyer's remorse when it come out. Whatever now different them. Plenty of weapons around him. I'm going nine. I'm going to go ten. I think they're next in line right behind the bucks for me and look i think matthew stafford is one of those guys that obviously you know when you play in a bad organization. I it's easy for people to take shots at you but when you put some nice toys mice weapons around you. It makes a real difference. You like oh wait. This is how i feel the talented players. Or and i think camakers going to have a breakout season as well i. It's a ten for for the moves. They made stay. Better be attended stafford. Stafford just got out of the the sewage tunnel at shawshank in the rain. That's exactly what stafford is feels. Ace oh man. Let's get it keyshawn sky q. Cuyler out in arizona allen starting with you four off division division. Yes defense got a little bit better. Yes they have weapons. More weapons yes. That office has a chance all is now of course on on cover boy cliff and if they can get that you know the now take it to the next level. I mean that picture of him in the room komen special but you have you have a team then the top division that they've got to figure out if this is the way to go forward and this might be that year that decides whether or not yes. This is the tandem our coach and quarterback or now. This isn't just isn't going to get it done for us in the nfl. So i'm gonna go four. I like it. I'm gonna i'm gonna go. I'm going to go five or six just because first off. i really wanna see keyshawn. Johnson just squirm. It makes me happy when collor murray plays well and he always refers to him as cute. It's cute it's cute quarterback system. The area system was cute. Like look in. Jj walk in asia green having the pieces around like they've made moves and is it a tough division. You're damn right news but it also feels like okay collar like this is the same urine daniel jones kind of in the same territory like is this going to work or is it not going to work time to prove your worth is he. Shana sizes as say. I'm usually with key on. I was literally just about to say that. Give me the bigger quarterback. Gimme the bigger point guards the whole bit but you cannot this capability of guy the murray's but like in kids praising monica every time key reference wing cra in his book it's always like little wing cra bet he would always have little man. I think he's a scientist about. But here's the problem. I'll even when i walk out of the studio like how are you. I'm not small. Monning hates walking between key knowing creates that space. Monica you know like joe pesci and it's like we get closer to j making a five hour energy. Is the one when you got to get stuff done. It's the brand hardworking. People.

"Ball right. They don't have a point guard. That's an extension of their staff to get their team into all the things that they need to do that or a successful and that's no fault of any player on the bucks. Drew holiday is not a point. Guard drew holidays a combo guard. He's basketball player and he's damn good at everything he does but they don't have somebody that can get this team into the sats and get them where they need to be like a chris. Paul and i did philadelphia atlanta's well they don't have it either. Ben simmons to me is not truly a point guard. So you having chris paul or john stockton or a magic johnson. These great point guards is invaluable. That coach doesn't have to call all the plays and look bud. Wants to give them freedom. We wants to give middleton to play one on jaanus and drew but one on one basketball in. The playoffs doesn't always work. I don't wanna glaze over the fact that janas plate right because it is pretty remarkable. You can go for twenty and seventeen a week after even. He admitted he wasn't sure if he was going to play for a year after that. Knee injury you obviously played and you understand exactly how this stuff works. How surprise you that he played in how effective he was. I'm stunned he played I apologize on the air last night to golick today because i said it was all fluff that they put him at questionable. Because i said there's no way he's playing He looked good. And it's a great positive sign for the milwaukee bucks that i think lack of aggressiveness was basically because he was tired. I don't think it had anything to do with the knee. And he said that after the game the niece l. great He is rhythm was off. Its timing and you know when you don't play for week of nba basketball riding. A bike is not going to have you in shape. He was tired. He was bending over a lot so he's just going to get better and better as long as nothing happens to the needs are great sign He was great on the boards. I thought he had great moments and For milwaukee it's a tremendous sign because he's going to be back the honest Hopefully for them here in the next couple of ballgames and it just shows you to like have you know athletes versus regular people. The rest of us would still crutches wrapped up probably need a week off from work where we sit for a living. He's back in an nba game a week later after an injury like that. Pretty remarkable stuff. "Nba championship. Chris paul in his nba finals. Debut goes for thirty two points nine assists in the sons when one eighteen one eighteen by the way. I want to repeat that one. Oh six over the milwaukee bucks yonathan. Akobo does play which was a bit of a surprise. Still gives you twenty and seventeen but still for the box not nearly enough and a much different looking bucks team now with him back in the line of so many different things we could pull apart from this game but as monica mcnutt are here on kishan jalen zubin j. will joins us now live from phoenix the coverage of the game last night. Nba countdown. monica. Why are you call me usher when i first got on by you. Play me monica alley gates one of our studio. You did sound like the beginning of the confessions video. That's the voice of a man who probably had about an hour and a half sleep before joining us here. Jay thanks for joining us. My man so vulgar august. So are you sure. Williams go all right or sure so off of the game. We had our irrational game. One takes you probably really. Yes i would love to hear. Monica overreaction irrational take. The bucks are better without jaanus on the floor because it unlocks jrue holiday and they occupy the same space and they can't play together. Wow that's a strong take. I like that. Completely optional can i. can i put one together. Go over the bucks are in the world championship despite the coaching. I'll coach booed and that was my take. Because i'm telling you. I'm sitting here watching the game last night and i am i off blown away by. Cpi three n devon booker. but pregame. I said the in game adjustments. That coach bud would have to make what determine whether the bucks will be successful in this series or not and when. There's not major turnaround time like when you don't have time to prepare how you make those in game adjustments is critical so when you beat atlanta and it goes away it did and then. There's a quick turnaround to get prepared for the phoenix suns. And you play the season pretty much indraught coverage and then you decide to switch while still thinking drop coverage against pick and rolls. I mean the andre was dominant last night and i. It's he's going to get paid he. He's going to get paid in his last two games. He's at thirty eight points in thirty six rebounds on eighty percent shooting and they were patient so when they switched it was either. They threw the ball down low to a smaller guy. Potentially jrue holiday. That was guarding the in. And then you had c. P. three and devon booker who pretty much have brook lopez on them and cb three scores system fifty four points that are most an nba finals. Practically though jay. And we've been talking about this a little bit this morning more so off air but let's bring it to air. What is the adjustment in terms of defending. Because i don't know that. I'm sold that fighting over. The top is going to yield better results. I mean we don't switch one through five switch one through three. Like what is the practical adjustments. That picking and i think you have to blitz it. Okay i think you have to monica. I think you have to whenever c. p. three and like you know i would stay home on devon booker so devon booker is not involved in the pick and roll. Like i'm denying him. I'm not letting in catch the ball first and foremost Even if that is you have. Pj tucker who's guarding chris. Paul which start off last night you have to blitz it and what i mean by is if you trapped. Cpi three on a boss green like just make them beat you with their rotation Like because my thing is. I can't have devon booker and c. P. three going off for the points. They did last night being in one on one ideal situations against brook lopez. I can't do that so i mean brook. Lopez didn't play the entire fourth quarter. But you're going to need to play him in games because it a size advantage that you have. I mean literally being on the court. You would've thought that the bucks were the varsity team and the phoenix suns were. Jv team just height wise height wise right because they were so much bigger but when you space out the court like that it works to the smaller teams advantage because it allows ep three and devon booker to cook. It is really again the the isolation that they were able to get just seeking out the match ups they wanted. That's what this was it. was you know again. You mentioned the coaching part of it. And that's certainly you know how i felt watching it at no point. Even when they were making a little bit of push there was no point. Where i'm like the bucks bucks and get back in the buck. Scott this none of that. I had no confidence in them watching. And that's really been the story line from you. Know i mean after the heat series forward. It just felt like the adjustments. You were waiting for needed to happen. I said they happen because of injuries. Not because of anything that they did now once you react something. That stephen smith said on sportscenter last night because it is something you and i are both talked about when it comes to the bucks legalism. It.

"I think he can go up and once he's a rhythm, he can get it going. He can Take over and become clutch. And in fact, I trust him down the stretch. Mother Yonathan. I think holiday is gonna be huge because he can. He can distribute to facilitate breakdown A B and he can make some place on the defensive end. I just don't think it's greatest branches. I don't see another game five like him tonight. And Harden is still limited. I don't think he'd go off and then the role guys like Griffin and Harris are just going to be non factory. So without that being said, I like the bucks tonight. I think I'm gonna pull it off. Maybe With close to 10 Point win, And besides, that boudin holders axes on the line If they lose tonight, he's gone, and he knows that anything short of a finals and he's out. And so Milwaukee's got to recognize. It's finals around are they're going to make some changes. Obviously so, Milwaukee, I think, Take the striking, uh, over the net. Appreciate the phone call Mike. Really good stuff. You are right. I mean, Budenholzer is playing for his job today. Look at the turnover right now in the league, and the Bucks job would be incredibly desirable. I think Rick Carlisle makes a lot of sense. Like if you're going to get rid of Mike Budenholzer if they lose tonight's game Plug it in Rick Carlisle. Makes all the sense in the world. Championship Coach certainly think he could maybe unlock a little bit more of the honest as potential. I actually think that the Bucks roster is better and more complete. Then what he had down there in Dallas. He's a long tenure, head coach could instantly coming there implement his system implement is plan. I think that higher makes a lot of sense. Budenholzer is coaching for his job. Today. The Bucks roster is largely going to stay the same. They're sort of landlocked or contract locked. With all of their big guys. Janice just sign that new deal. They just picked up Drew Holiday and Chris Middleton is in the mix. You're not changing your big three. If you're Milwaukee, you can change your system and implement something different and try to get a little bit more out of your honest and see if you can put him in some different situations. And I think, Budenholzer Has put them in. But the Bucks teams at least when it comes to the core, that's not really changing. Some of the tertiary parts could change some of the secondary guys. You can maybe play some musical chairs and find you some better role players. Maybe get us a couple more shooters. To space, the floor a little bit. And really get Yannis in that driving kick mode. Where hey, is you go to the cup? You create opportunities for guys and you're also one of the best finishers at the rim we've seen in the history of the league. That also can be a part of your game. This is a really big game tonight. In the Milwaukee Bucks franchise. I think this game means more for the bucks than it does for the Nets. If it's the Nets, I don't think anything changes. Hey, we weren't healthy this year. Next year. I don't know if the season is going to start on time. Hey. Let's treat next year like we just got to get to the playoffs. Let's get everybody healthy because we feel it doesn't matter what seed we are. Doesn't matter as long as we're in the playoff and healthy. We feel like we're the best team in the league. You can't argue that if you have all three of those guys healthy, but the challenge isn't going to be getting hard in there. Hearted, for the most part, has been a healthy and productive player like he hasn't really been a load management guy. He hasn't really broken down. Physically. I think this year was a weird year for hard and with what happened with Houston. I'm not really worried about his long term health also not really worried about Katie. Aside from the Achilles injury, which Can't really blame. You know, injury prone or something like that. And with how he's come back, how can you say anything about it? But You can't really question his health either. The question is always going to be Kyrie. This has been a hell. This has been an issue with Kyrie Irving since Duke Tyree's health and will he be available has been an issue for Kyrie since he was in college. This is something teams have always had to manage around with him. So the the difficulty and challenge is gonna be getting all three of those guys think about this season. We still have never really seen Harden Kyrie and, uh and Durant all play together. That still hasn't really been a thing this year in the league. So I don't really think tonight. If the Nets lose really changes a whole lot. You weren't healthy. You take this off season you get healthy and the number one priority for next year is how do we get to the NBA playoffs with all of our guys intact? If you were the bucks, and you had the best record in the NBA for two seasons this year, you didn't have the best record in the league. But I think you're may be better equipped to advance than you were now with the addition of somebody like Drew holiday. It's now or never. It's now or never for the Milwaukee Bucks. And can you do it and I'll say it again. Like I said off the top. If you can't beat the Nets in this scenario, when will you ever be able to beat them? If you can't beat Philadelphia if you potentially advanced With Ben Simmons playing some of the worst basketball of his life. When are you going to be able to beat them? You gotta and there's no way you should be cheating after like three months of the game i was. I was took me back for a minute. I forgot i graduated from columbia or southern connecticut. And i was thinking i was back in the neighborhood at in jamaica queens. Even that even. That's not a valid. Excuse 'cause you still two words anybody oh my goodness anyway rob. Let's go to russell wilson as we wrap this show up now. We know a few months ago before air. Rogers controversy started. It was all about russ russ wanted to cook. And he went on the dan patrick show and shocked the football world by saying implying that he's opened the golan elsewhere and Obviously he hasn't gone elsewhere. Obviously he's not going elsewhere and he's pretty much. I mean he put the seahawks notice that i was some changes and they've made some changes so now it's all good. We russ and here. He was at a press conference recently. Talking about what was the big To do what was the big hubbub intern deal here. He is in terms of the trade talks. I think anytime you play professional sports. There's always a possibility of something happened right. And i think that's just the reality. I think there's a lot of teams out there. That people were saying that i was going to our we'd go to. I requested a trade. I did not request the trae I've always wanted to play here You know in in the rowdies you know Think calls were getting thrown around. And this and that and i think that's a reality But at the end of the day the real reality is is. I'm here. i'm here to win. I'm here to win at all You got beef. Where's your beef. we couldn't keep a straight face. He had to laugh because he lied through my teeth. I'm the one who went on. Dan patrick and started all that stuff. All the hall baba nobody else start that put him and his minions behind the scene so he could sit there. And tell you 'cause you could buy hoop line and sinker like a like a guppy and protect poor dear role. Mr russell wilson misled. There's no way there's no way that that came out of nowhere. I'm not buying no. He didn't say that though. See that's the thing. Tell me what he said was telling me the lie. Dowell his people. He did not know he was not wanted. He requested trae. Yes through his straight to his represent date data and request the trade. That was never reported. what was reported. Was that if he was traded these before teams he will play for. He didn't deny that what he did say is i did not request a tray and i firmly believe that i firmly believe eighty requested rate. So i get it. Is he being a little fast and loose with the situation. Yeah okay but he did not technically go up there and lie. He just said look. I didn't request the trade. Yeah it was just like. If i am traded diesel to fourteen i go to but that was it and so you know that. That's that's that's press conference one. Oh one that's pr one. Oh one. that's what he do. Russell wilson but you know i right. He didn't technically. You didn't lie chris. He made that he could've stopped all that noise a long time ago. And you know. He did not but he was. He wanted to noise. Yeah he wanted a little noise to put a little heat on seattle. Yeah it'll be interesting to see better like how not throwing all those picks and touch interceptions at the goal line in the super bowl. Worry about that. How ago where years ago. He caused him a chance to the way back the super bowl care costume. P carol costing chris kamara feet. Through that touchdown you wouldn't be given cow credit would be about. Russell will be law whether play call a play. I'd give them credit. But the i give him some blame but it wasn't all on him. That's all i'm saying. I we got an update on jacob. Degrom really quick guys about a minute left in the show but you guys were upset that he was pull during his starts and turns out. He has a good reason or another team. Pulled due to right flexor tendonitis. I don't know what that means what it sounds good. You know what that means to me. Rob what pine tar itis of. The google cops are out and the alva site. Oh all of a sudden you hurt. How all of a sudden right gate. I can't get no. I don't know it's just weird. But it was her earlier this year. I just don't. I'm not sure it is the of. We hope you enjoy tonight. So as well as the entire week it was a lot of fun go out. There have a wonderful week. A rob said travels to seattle. Be careful i'll be back. And i'm leaving underwear and socks and sh- oh did you hear about underwear. We don't wanna hear about you. Lovey dovey spot dollar city. "Rob parker f s one on both twitter and graham all right. The eastern conference semifinals between the philadelphia. Seventy sixers and the atlanta hawks is at the half the second half just about to start or actually probably started a few moments ago. Yes sixty three fifty six sixty three fifty six philadelphia on a bit of a delay on the east coast. Apparently we're behind by a minute. So that's it was a little in australia. Come on it is well as long as i don't know when i'm on the radio so it's a bit frustrating right when you don't know that i just don't look at twitter. I'm i'm gonna be honest with you and last night watching that game between the bucks and nets because it ended after the show right whereas watching basically the fourth quarter after our show i purposely because it came down to the last second right i purposely. Didn't look at my phone. Because i knew i was behind and so i would have known what happened with that did you did you A lot of people rob. Let's go quickly to that nets game. A lot of people were jumping on bruce brown. Look you've got to the best one or one players in the history of the game and kevin durant and kyrie irving on the floor and bruce brown now he takes the last shot but took like three in the last five or something like that A lot of people jumped on brown because he took the second to last shock. Durant obviously took the last shot but just really held and durant ran down right. But brown's he You know i was the shot to win the game and he missed it. A lot of people have problems with him taking that 'cause you should've went to durant akari. Where were you add on that. Yeah i mean this is always that thing about who's opened some people open for reason you just would rather one of those two guys have the ball and have shot. Even if you don't win. I mean i i think harris joe harris missed a chop from the wide open guys in needless second minute a mess us in the world in the league right and he was why he got a wide open. Look nobody in front of him. I bet you ninety percent of the time he makes that shot and that would have been gained. Chris that that was a shot right. Did they actually had gone up by tweet. Got the ball. And then i think he would have made it five. I think that would have been named as series. I mean yes. I still think they're going to win. But it would've been over three. Oh is down big in that game for them to win the game on the road. The walkie was up. Big milwaukee with moralize lead demoralized absolutely now to brown. I'm gonna be honest right now. I will say this that play. He had harris open on the right side like the right baseline as he was driving he could have passed the harris for another jumper. Rob i feel like he would have hit it. He's a great shooter. He obviously was upset about missing that wide open. Gimme you mentioned. I think he would have hit it. And the other thing was on the left side the left corner durant. Was there not wide open but open now durant and i'm not making big. He scared at the moment he because he obviously took desire shot at the end of the game and ease it big shops before so it wasn't that but for some reason rob. He wasn't really like setting himself up for the past like he was just kind of walk in like lollygag in like he didn't think there's any ways going to get the shot and brown could've hit him so but i'm gonna say this rob. I'm not mad at bruce brown. I think one of the stress of that team is that even though you've got the three stars james harden joining k. d. inquiry. One of the stress of that team rob is when you watch them. Everybody feels free to take the shah agree on. That's what that's what they were able to win. All those games. Chris when those guys were injured those guys were big play makers bigshot makers. I'll tell you harris would have made that shot again. You give them that. Shot chris nine out of ten times on that elbow wide open and nobody in his face. He makes that shot. he didn't make it. A basketball is strange. I mean it just it just is you. Don't want your role players feeling like they can't take a shot right like like feeling bad. You don't want brown. You know second guessing man. I shouldn't take that shot. Come on i gotta get to katy or give it to kyri. I mean and rob. He obviously is not on their level but he did help bring them back nano order role players brought him back. Yeah is you don't make it to the nba. 'cause you were afraid to shoot right and afraid to make plays he was a star somewhere you know. There's only four hundred jobs chris right. He was a star so nowhere but somewhere. I'm gonna look it up now but he says you're right there's no scrubs in the nba. No no i mean when we talk about scrubs or whatever you're talking in comparison to the rest of the greatest players in the world bruce brown. Trust me if all you weekend warriors out there trust me. Step to bruce brown in an open gym. He killed his see. If he does serve you. I he will serve. You remember brian. Calabrese route yup dudes. You know they look at him up. Come on this dude is he. Ain't no good dues with step to him. Wanna play them one on one and all that. And he's destroying us. You know open gyms and all that mark jackson told me you know when he used to go play still after he retired and you know. Do think he's slow. He you know he ain't that good can't shoot and they talk so much trash you know 'cause he ain't going all out against them but then at some point you have to show them what it is you know you have to say look. I was in the league for reason. Do and you work for reason. I can remember that happening. And i must say on any kind of level but the same thing i used to the. Ymca was nearby apartment. When i lived in new york in jamaica queens and my buddy used to go to the gym like every morning and play or whatever. Chris basketball and of course the two and i was in my thirties back then and younger guys were in the gym or whatever. Hey you guys wanna play. You know that kind of thing. We used to kill though because we knew how to play. You know what i mean. Like athletic and jumping around and all that we knew how to play and they would always be loud holiday. Beat us because it ain't just you know all athletics right right. The rob g. alex. Correct me. If i'm wrong. Dirac parkridge is compare himself to to nba. Did i didn't conversations. I just remember i. I know i know i can relate to mark jackson i just i just remember people thinking like oh look at this dude. I was in my thirties. Chris and they were calling me old dude back then. It switched when you were twenty one. That was old.

"L b has today off. Who wondered why Iggy Pop is bumping in the bottom of the hour. I am too. It's red. All right. Welcome back. It's been a good day to be a really good day. Last chance for you to get through. If you wanna call Don't call that's fine. I've got a good straight going. I'm on a heater. I have not taken a single phone call today. How many single host shows for three hours could go three hours about one phone call. One. This one. So for the right call, I'll take it. But what I am efforting right now is the head basketball coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. Mike Budenholzer. And I'm gonna run him down momentarily. If you'd rather take me up on Twitter. You could do that at Jim Rome, and we're all over the divisional matchups tomorrow. It's been such a big week, not spend a lot of time talking about the NFL matchups. We'll all over tomorrow I'll have previews off thoughts. The big head. James Kelly will come in. And make his picks. I've been looking at these games all week long thinking about these games all week long. Straight up and 80 s And it is a tough, tough week. Two big games but a great weekend Wash games Saturday and Sunday, so it's gonna be fun. Like I mentioned Going to the last segment where I have an interview. It doesn't mean you can't get through, in fact is I'm efforting. I'm thinking about taking a phone call right now. But I see the hotline ringing. I don't wanna do a caller wrong and after hook that caller, especially if that caller is a good collar. But if you're on hold stay there. We're joined right now by the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. He is in his third season with the box. He is a two time NBA coach of the year. He won four NBA titles with spores organization. Milwaukee is in first in the central and they're hosting Dallas tomorrow night. Mike Budenholzer is my guest, Mike. It's so good to have you back. How are you, Mike? I'm doing great job. How you doing? Good, great. It's great to visit with you. Thanks for making time for the show. We start here. You beat Detroit last night In a game where you held the Pistons to 13 points in the first quarter. You've got some really good looks on the offensive end. There was this sequence late in the first quarter, where four players had three passes and two dribbles in six seconds, and it led to a three at the buzzer. We start right there. What kind of quick ball movement in offensive flow like that? How does that make you feel? His head coach. Yeah, it's good when the ball's moving and we're playing with each other. That's obviously and it's been popular on the court. It's just no good things up, and so Our ball movement. Just our success have been pretty good lately, and Um, no. That's how we want to play. And, you know, we got great players and they're willing to play that way. Um, you know, it could be fun to watch fun to play. Um, yeah, we'll see if we get some more of those possessions. Mike Budenholzer joining us and then that was one of the 19 threes that you guys hit last night. You're currently second in the league in three point shooting percentage. You've always encouraged you guys. The Let it fly from deep and I know there's a lot of work to be done. But does it feel like does it feel like this might be the best three point shooting team you've had since you arrived there? Yeah, I think you know it is early, and there's a long ways to go. But, you know, John Horse Arjun does is just phenomenal. Does a great job. And I think we felt like we we've prioritized shooting since we've been here since I've been here together with John and We felt like we needed take it, You know, just try and get even better. And, um, we do feel like it. It's better. And, you know, we got to keep working to get those guys. Good luck. Keep it. The ball keeps moving and We've got great players that can draw extra attention and then find shooters around himself. But yeah, with the additions of you know, DEA Jagga Steen brand Ford's Bobby Portis off our bench. Um, you know, those guys can all really shoot it. Bobby's unique as a 54 that could spread the floor and just, you know, get a lot of buckets quick and I'm including from behind the three point line. So the shooting, you know, it's a big part of what we need around. You know, Chris and John, it's Andrew. We're talking bucks basketball head coach Mike Budenholzer. My guests. You know when you mentioned Drew, like Drew holiday had 21 last night, and then I thought was really interesting. What you honest had to say afterwards, he said quote. I knew he was really good. But every day I play with him. I realized how good of a person he is. Ah, good teammate. He is. How much better is that what I thought and a quote. So what's it been like to work with Drew so far and what's he bring to your team? Yeah, It's been great. You know, Janek said it Well, I think You know, it's interesting. I've been in the east Now, I think seven years I think this is going on a obviously on it, you know, drafted 78 years ago. When teams playing the opposite conferences. Don't play him enough. You know, you don't see him in the playoffs. You don't dig in. I think you know we were really excited when we signed up or are, you know maybe trade for him, But I mean, he's exceeded even our our high expectations and really the human beings just off the charge, getting to know him away from the court and everything he and his wife do to make a difference in You know, whatever community they live in, and obviously both have roots in L A. And, um, you know, it's just It's been a great great addition and he's a great player. But you know, even better human and we feel like we're just getting a dog. He's gonna get even better with that. So Um, yeah, I mean, just you know, you could hear it in Janos is words and we're excited about him and what he brings Mike Budenholzer. My guest. You honest, obviously loves him. And speaking to you honest. He had another triple double last night, but It seems like he's at the point of his career where he could drop a triple double and he's got this kind of ability where it's almost Ah ha Hold something like it's practically just expected now that he would just go out there and just dropped triple doubles on everybody. How does he look to you so far this season? Yeah. I mean, he's good, but, you know, I think he's somebody that needs. You know, lots of playing lots of five on five. I think that Lack of, you know, kind of. You know what we call open jam or the ramp up to a training camp in a normal training camp? You know, I think he's going to get better. I think you know his feel and.
Antetokounmpo, Bucks pull away late to beat Magic 121-99
"The Milwaukee Bucks saw the return of their star Jana said that a combo in a one twenty one ninety nine victory against the magic in Orlando the back spasms that were bothering the Greek freak were massaged out as he put up twenty two point six rebounds and four assists to lead his team Buck said coach Mike Budenholzer says he liked what he saw from his guys to make a fourth quarter just meant to stop the magic I thought you know we made a more forums and overall you know there was that you know there was a lot of good activity on Gordon and vucevic seven Ross really to contain him to Orlando it was center nik vucevic who led the team with twenty eight points and thirteen rebounds the magic have now lost three straight to fall the six and five just behind the box now in the east Kyle Cassandra Orlando
Chicago Bulls hire Billy Donovan as coach to replace Jim Boylen
"On Billy Donovan becoming the new coach in Chicago to 43 1 57 as the head of coach of the Thunder. We know what he did at Florida. He's gotta rebuilding job here, though, in Chicago. He does that mean the Bulls hired Donovan to be their new head coach Yesterday. The 55 year old Donovan was a hot commodity bad after leaving, Okay. See a few weeks ago, supposedly numerous MBA tried to hire him. And who wouldn't want to hire a baby? He was coach of the year this past season. He was co coach of the year with Budenholzer from the box. But Chicago details they missed playoff missed the playoffs for the past five seasons. But Donovan, I gotta tell you he's walking into some pretty good young talent with the Bulls exact was mean about well. Murray's A great young point exactly, means another one that I could score 30. It is asleep right now. They also have Laurie Morgan, so I think it's a good It's a good move for Donovan is definitely good move in Chicago.
Smart: Refs overturned call to keep Giannis in
"To be honest in the books were up on the Celtics fourth quarter 96 to 89. Boston, though. They came to play dice swings to jail in Brown against Middleton tested three for the wing Swiss since I shot in the face knocks it down, anyway. Time out. Mike Budenholzer and the Celtics have done it again. 98 5 Sports Hall by that three by Jalen Brown had Boston up a point, but Johannes the reigning M V P For a reason. Smart guarding honest. Now they switch about sandy, honest catches on ties. Hook shot down with a foul beautiful bounce by Middleton as he found the honest deep in that paint, Johannes goes to work, and he's got the mean mug goingto make it 1 15 1 10 wkmg with that call that a three point play that had him up five late that help seal the deal was another from Yana said a combo. With about a buck 30 to go an overturned call that kept him in the game and help the Bucks beat. The Celtics won 19 1 12 36 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists. Milwaukee improves to an MBA best 54 12 moved within a window of clinching the top seed in the East for a second straight year, Nagumo was called for a charging fowl, appearing to negate a basket and giving him 1/6 foul. The call It was changed to a blocking foul on Marcus Smart after review Smart and Johannes with this take postgame the recession and said I was late. Frankly, I think we all know what that was about six. I didn't want to get him out. Just call a spade A spade is what it is speaking as a player. I think he's a good player. I think Well, in that respect about that is the first floor peaches May he plays hard. He was the best player. I think he's a bad person that day. That's his opinion. He was moving in last place, but either way it away if he was charging he was not sore. I'm having going to win and away from this place, it was changed. Call Chris Middleton, 18 for the Bucks Smart 23. Jalen Brown, 22 with Jason Tatum, just five points on to off 18 shooting.
"budenholzer" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"Just don't think it's gonna be an unbelievably difficult task too for for Budenholzer to get you know his team focus with the kind of intensity that it takes to win a championship and at the same time you know you got this going on in the in the you know as the backdrop it just it just sold it's obviously so new to everybody but I think I feel really bad for them because this may be their one shot and they may not get another shot let's just come the cruelty of the way life works yeah I have no doubt in and and you know that's about as always in the context of the this could be such a major health crisis said you know alternately we might look back and go who cares about it you know the results of the of the NBA that you're that sure you know that it could be we could we could be way more serious than that even so let's you know let's let's hope that all these measures were taking really lied some more productive and were able to you know keep things in control and Jack and and you know people are able to remain healthy and safe and that we we can get back to our normal lives but yeah really really scary stuff for we before run what I did I did I know crude mentioned Eric Pasco wanted to ask you some bad about him I think you should in the mid twenties from three and that's something that I thought about and thought about the way the league's going that he needs to improve his three point shooting three point shooting a little bit but then I thought does he does he really need to improve it that much that that would be improved a little bit and he decided to shoot more three pointers because he's improved a just a little bit Hey isn't shoot as many mid range shots with everybody deems inefficient which I disagree with but a math is math and he's so good at it he said such an old school game that he can take it to the ram he can hit those mid range shots Hey we're yet with that could you like can be a little bit better but I don't get so much better that he's like well I mean if you shoot forty that's great but let's say she's thirty any takes more three pointers instead of taking the midrange shot which is so so good at how do you counter balance that bike is that we need to work on yeah but we also want you to the mid range game because that's really where you could excel yeah I think the whole thing is open shots so if you can now get open midrange shots were all for those who aren't you know last year we had the number one offense administration C. in the league yeah and we also show the most mid range shots in the league but those midrange shots were taken by staff choir and and Katie so yelled at midrange shots or starfighter taken by great shooters and if they have Verdasco is shooting a high percentage from fifteen to eighteen feet and I want to taking those shots you know it's it's all about percentages and the way I look at next year you know when we've got staff and clay out there and Eric's got that kind of space I think he has a chance to be a really really efficient player and if he can improve his three point shot some great but if not he yeah that's fine because you can still be very efficient from the midrange and getting to the basket sorry Liverpool no yeah stocks trucks lost job both to and you know to one and in aggregate in over in extra time you think it's it's done and well that was quick I think the last squad you wanna see is Adler co you don't see the deep Diego Simeone's team as the last what you want to see is that they they don't do it until the ref blows the whistle and tells you to get out of there I was impressed that she that was really interesting I got added to it yeah so I don't want to see man city because they can't even play for two more years and we're gonna win this year will be done for two years it has outstanding speed like like we're talking about regular season NBA games outside about that a lot of people around here or maybe an American know how big the champions league is but when they have not not the Liverpool game when they have champions league games I think that landed that was plan add that champions champions league game yesterday that no fans in it I go that's when you know like we're talking about this one of the biggest tournaments in the world that doesn't have fans in it that's when you know this thing could go on for a little bit and could affect not just basketball but but baseball here in Maine baseball I still think they should I don't know if you agree with me on this but I think on TV we have the capabilities when you think about just putting like digital people in the stands are looks halfway decent users like a bad baseball movie that's a long time for the love of the game bill tear at the wrong time and maybe dressed in seventies gear it is something that men out of crowd noise pumpkin exam journal is trying to make the best of a crappy situation is what I'm trying to do that's what I do we also make sure to make the best of it stable C. out there tomorrow and I definitely don't see I definitely hear you I imagine we're going to give you a better seat for the game I would hope so anyway so well you know what I I don't know I think it was deemed essential personnel how is central both find out tomorrow yeah I think it would be hilarious if I looked up and you were still up in the rafters further by myself he's a social or arrange that for you just for you instead of I see it yeah good luck and stay safe as well purse I mean there they didn't want me to record obvious over thirty years of friendship and now we find out we find anyone as solid as we thought it was I was in the parking lot was well it's coming up next.
