"It's the idea that Bill watts is talking to Dave Meltzer. That just doesn't that feels weird to me. I don't imagine the cowboy being like, let's call up the dirt cheap guys. That's just hard for me to imagine. Yeah, I think melcher was the aggressor in that the owner of cowboy had a point to make. He could always get older Meltzer. That's true. And so I know that some of the guys became uneasy when they found out that cowboy was talking to the observer. As much as he apparently was, I don't know how much that would be. I don't know, but a lot of the talents were uneasy that that was occurring. Well, some of the tale and apparently are uneasy with what's going on here, too, in particular doctor death and Terry Gordy, they're going to drop the tag titles to Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham here at center stage. They go 20 minutes in a pretty good match here, but there's been a big push for Doc and Gordy and now drop the belts. Kind of out of nowhere it seems. When they ready to go back to Japan, have they had enough of this American experiment? Yeah, they wanted less work and they got big money for going to Japan. They were supremely over, but it was a disappointment. You know, I always thought that they were one of the best tag teams I ever saw. I still believe that all these years later. And I was salivating over the prospects of matches with Doc and Gordy versus the steiners, for example, doom, you know, there are a lot of teams that Doc and Gordon could have worked with and had a great matches. So as disappointing that they were leaving. But it wasn't a total surprise. I mean, I think Japan was still their first home after all those years. They made great money. They changed their lifestyle thanks to mister bob and Nokia's money because they worked for both companies at one time. Different times, but they were for both companies. So it was disappointed that they lived, because we lost, like I said. To me, it was like, we're losing the best tag team in the business. They're durable, they're strong, they can be heels, they could be maybe paces. They have great chemistry and it made the product better. The more dock and Gordy we had on television, I think the better our television was. So we talked about Barry wind and winning a tag title here, but he's also, according to the observer, gonna be working as an assistant Booker to dusty, dusty is gonna be spending more time monitoring the house shows, so Barry is gonna work as his support in a way where maybe JJ Dillon did that once upon a time. But Barry Windham has a creative mind is not something I've ever heard much about. What'd you think of this? Well, I was willing to give it a try if it made dusty more efficient and more effective and it taught somebody like Barry a young guy who's been the Venice all his life, son of black Jack, et cetera, et cetera, then I'm all for it. As I was all for it, if it dusty better, it does it gets to find that magic again that sprinkle up magic dust on his creative and I thought it was fine. But look, I love very Windham at one time, was probably one of the top four or 5 workers in the entire world. But golly, he just he went JJ. J chase roll with the horsemen, and trying to hurt the chickens in a Crockett era. There's nothing short of extraordinary. Be honest with you. So J says that was a very, very valuable asset. So I was hoping that would work, Connie. I really did, but, you know, very had never been in that role before. So as I'll wait and see. Bruno sammartino is going to pop up, do a little bit of color commentary with Tony schiavone and also do an empty arena interview with Tony schiavone that Meltzer was really high on and said it was one of the best babyface promos, but it's kind of interesting to see Bruno, a WWF guy here in WCW. On the hotline, you're going to be hinting that Paulie might be brought back to manage pillman and Austin as a tag team. And maybe Austin wanted to get a push as a Ric Flair clone. Meltzer had this to say, big mistake because Steve Austin is in no way shape or form Ric Flair. Flair's still an active wrestler, so at best it looked like a cheap copycat, but he doesn't have a buddy landale personality, where he can get the right kind of heat for being a copycat of a successful main event. I don't think anybody has ever written that ever since. That Steve Austin doesn't have a buddy Landau personality. My goodness. Ash crazy. There are two different people. Yeah. And all of a sudden we're going to become one of the biggest stars of the biggest star and wrestling ever ever. You know, I always had high hopes for Steve, but not as a Ric Flair clone. The clone thing in wrestling or promoters, the example was we talked earlier about Butch Reed. Well, we could fix this JYD leaving very easily. This is how another muscular black guy put him in that cast him in our book him, whatever, in that role, and everything's going to be okay. And that's just silly. It's just silly. We tried George wells. We tried brick house brown. And among others, I can't even think of off top of my head, but none of them worked. And again, the answer was right there under our nose and hacksaw Butch Reed. So. The cloning thing, I remember when Jimmy snuka left WWWF, I think they brought a guy named cephei. Another island guy. And he looked a lot like a snooker, which I didn't think it was a plus. Colored by casi was happening or just trying to play snooker with a snooker lookalike. And a fans are smart, man. Especially today. You know, sometimes I read things that are, I think are somewhat ridiculous. And I understand too, that people make these comments, and that moxie thing, I got all this negative feedback, and they made sure I was tagged in. So I could make sure I saw some of the shit. But I could promise you I didn't spend one minute of my life researching it. It's how I felt. It was an opinion, and I think I have to explain my opinion, so my Twitter, or here on the show. This is us. This is what we do and so anyway, it was just the business has changed in a lot of ways, but in some ways it's never changed, and probably never will. Couple more news and notes here, Meltzer would write, I believe 6 wrestlers, including sting, Rick rude, and Ron Simmons were all fine the $1000 for their work not being up to par.

Barry Windham Gordy Meltzer Bill watts Dave Meltzer Doc Terry Gordy Dustin Rhodes Tony schiavone Japan mister bob Barry wind JJ Dillon melcher Barry Bruno sammartino Butch Reed Steve Austin pillman buddy Landau

"Would advise you to have is in the back of your head. Since dusty. rhodes and magnum p. Are such good friends of yours. And i would suggest that you put one in this pocket pocket because wherever you go you better be looking over your shoulder you better send somebody out before you walk out the door before you go into your house at night. You better check it out. You better put security. Wrap around your apartment wherever you are. You just know we might be there. I tell you this is going to stop. It's not going to be over two. We get you. Sam houston to get you and i know a lot of people say it. A lot of people wish they could do it but looking at the guys that have got everybody. And we're not gonna worry about a guy like you houston warning warning. You better beware someplace. Somehow you're gonna get it and the of the ones that are going to do it. I'm losing my mind all this houston you're gonna pay. I gotta have the satisfaction period. Good stuff man feel embarrassed to be on a promo with only. Oh dude come on. Yes so convincing so to the point you chest. It's like he just takes you on this ride. That when he's done you just go. Oh my god. I'm gonna move. I'm going to move out of town. It's he's relaxed. Is that the right word. It's one of them. He's he's relaxed in the fact that everything. He says he believes every word of it. Yeah it doesn't feel like Bruce sometimes say so and so was playing wrestler only not playing wrestler. All only believes what he's saying with every fiber of his being if he was down at the waffle house having breakfast with you or he's in his underwear talking into a microphone. Comes off as just as real. It's just there's no nerves there's no anxiousness this is just. This is the way life is. That's the approach of the field. I get as a fan. Any earned it over reps. You know you got to remember all the start in the seventies not the eighties and him. And jean were the team forever. God knows they reps and the amount of time that he got behind a microphone and and and could just talk to you and that's what it is. He's just if you're sitting there watching your here and talk to you and just explain to pretty graphically what's to come and it's it's void of emotion. It's almost like just a flat. Line that you're gonna to die. And here's why is remarkable I want to mention that We've got a couple more tv. Tapings in the month September twenty third year in greenville south carolina. There's going to be six man tag there Totally arn and buddy landale are gonna take on pez wildly the italian stallion and brady boone. And dusty rhodes is gonna do commentary and He's going to be helping david. Crockett do that. But what. I found interesting about that is. It's gonna eventually lead into some jal jacking back and forth with you and dusty about the television title. We're gonna talk about that next week. i do wanna mention that Sam houston had something to say. To mr bob coddle on this episode of of mid-atlantic. Let's take a listen to all sam. Tell his story all right all right. Now let's bring in this young man. Sam houston sam. Tell you you have been wrestling. You've been wrestling now for weeks with a real handicap and that's cast on an arm and a broken.

"The next as we mentioned you're in columbia. And you're in the main event it's going to be dusty magnum and manny taken on Tully oli and orne on the twelfth. They're running shows. In wheeling west virginia on the thirteenth two shows one in oxford alabama. But that's really a continental show just Flare taken it on brad armstrong but we have jcp show at the field house in williamson. West virginia on the fourteenth were in columbus georgia. And then we're doing. Tv again on the fifteenth in atlanta Later that night on the fifteenth there are three shows. of course. we're going to have a matinee squeezed in there but college park. Georgia is gonna see ron garvin and black bart on top Norfolk virginia is going to see dusty. Magnum sam houston taken on totally only and orange once again a bunk house match. And in pensacola florida. A jcp promoted show with the rock and roll versus the midnights on that same card magnum on that same card with telly. Even the road. Warriors working with the russians the main event as flare versus dusty. And pensacola show is loaded for bear but strangely there's only two thousand folks there do you think. The pensacola market was softening. Is september a bad month in that era. Was there not adequate promotion. Why do you think that show would only have two thousand folks there with that loaded of a card. Wow what was the. What was the middle show So you had three shows that they on the fifteenth one in college. Park georgia one. In norfolk virginia But then the big show to me is pensacola florida it's buddy landale over sam. Houston manny fernandez. Over crusher khrushchev brad. Steve armstrong over a aren't and only the cue jimmy value in there with the barbarian. The rock and roll's are going to beat the midnight express. Tommy rich is going to defeat. Adrian street magnum. Ta is going to go to a double count out. Telly blanchard the road. Warriors are going to beat the russians when ivan his pinned and then in the main event ric flair beats dusty rhodes by disqualification that feels like a freaking star cade. And there's like two thousand fans here. In pensacola i cannot. I cannot tell you why that did not draw better. That's that's a less. It was not locally. Promoted is it should have been. They just relied on the cable One thing i tell you something that is a very real thing and people may use it as a cop out. But i know it's real 'cause i've been around forty years school. Starting yep was made a difference in our business. September notoriously was not a good matz for wrestling. Let me pile on their arm. Because i feel like sometimes people think all that's an excuse because brutal sometimes say well. The gas station opened. But you gotta appreciate. This is a socio economically. Depressed area The median income household income is not exactly what you might imagine and when kids go back to school. It's not just a matter of oh they can't get down there now. The can't afford to take the kids. Because you've got all these new fees you gotta pay for the kids football helmet. You gotta pay for him. Some new books. You gotta pay for him. Some new shoes you got to pay from new clothes and if you've got a whole litter of those little rugrats got all that going plus you got lunch money etc etc so there's a lot of newfound expenses whenever kids will go back to school and you know maybe that ten dollars on wrestling just didn't quite check all the boxes that you needed to that month. Well that and the fact that Jim crockett promotions was a hot commodity. That time we were. We're we're flaming up right. Shaw betcha the ticket prices were very high. That's another negative plus the fact that all those years prior to that continental had ran pensacola every single sunday so it had been ran a lot prior to getting there so it probably feels like well. I'll just see them next week. Yeah i mean all these guys. We can't afford to pay those. Jim crockett promotions. But our guys who were familiar with anyway. We'll be back next sunday so we'll just go to that show. They could all be reasons that two thousand people. That's that's not not much and i bet you. The rent on that. Civic center was not cheap fable. North carolina is where you're at the very next day on september sixteenth. Think about that. You're going from pensacola to fayetteville one. Day later once again going to be a bunk house match dusty magnum and sam on one side totally aren't on the other on the eighteenth. You're gonna be wrestling the rock and roll express along with your partner only to draw at the dorton arena On the twentieth. You're going to be in singles action against terry taylor. What are you. Remember your first impressions being of a young terry taylor here. A lot of people thinking this era. He was trying to for lack of a better word. Do his best ric flair impression and he will no way to dispute that but he did it from a perspective. I think idolize mayor it wasn't trying to be a cheap copy. He he analyzed wreck and he copied. Rick he just took it to an extent of everything from the robe. You know to a little bit of the And all you know some of the things he did during his match figures it was to pay tribute to rick. But terry was when terry was being terry. He was a very good upper middle baby face. That had good skills was a handsome guy. You know Gear always looked top-shelf tan. And all those things that you can do to to make yourself look like a bigger star and he had really good baby face skills so he was a guy that you figured you wanted on his own your card to be that upper middle guy that could put your top guys over and It would benefit both guys if it was competitive match and terry at a pretty good career as far as wrestling your lasted for. I don't know how many years has had a pretty good run. I think this is one of the first singles matches you guys would have had wrestled each other in tag matches but it feels like the promotion had to be pretty high on him here because not only..

"Let's go to the ring you know. Every now and again we We have opportunities to be pitched something for sale. And they'll say well. Here's your bronze level. And here's your silver level and here's your gold level. I feel like we kind of heard that the promo version sam houston doing his best. Try to spit it out. A new guy but she could hear You can almost hear the wheels industies. Starting hang on industies. Enthusiasm is infectious. It almost wasn't even about what dusty was saying. Dusty was excited and his excitement. Just comes through the screen. Does it not when you say dusty. Rhodes what's the first thing. Everybody says charisma. Yeah unparalleled and that that is bigger than anyone promo. That is something that you have every time you run into somebody and you're having a one on one conversation or you're talking to ten thousand people are talking to tv audience. It comes across. And that's what he had email. Sam that the simple story of this angle was dusty. Said at some point. I'm sure early on this kid. Sam houston is a new edition. Jim crockett promotions scott. A lot of talent he scattered bright future. We like the fact that you know. He's young and inexperienced but he's he's in their learning and he. That's all dusty. Would've had to give it a rub. Not that he overplayed it or overdid it. So we looked at that him being a protege of dusty that's another way of of striking a blow at dusty break his proteges arm and as easy for dusty to step in and pick up that promo and now you put a cast on sam's arm we go around. We do some six man's and the rub for sam is unbelievable. Can you imagine being partners. Were those two guys. No i mean. I can't even imagine it. It's a whole different realm and it's a rub that you keep your entire career people. You know still talk about that. I'm sure so man just everybody one on this deal. Everybody and only when he starts talking man. It would mesmerized me because articulate intelligent. Got right to the point and he didn't scream holler he. Just there's nothing more frightening than a guy that's in your ear and very quietly telling you how he's gonna cut your head off and stick it on a post schist is just terrified. Let's talk about the state of professional wrestling here for a moment august sixteenth. There's a show in the meadowlands called star. Wars is joint show with jim crockett promotions. And the awa. You're not booked on the show. But i just wanted to get your perspective of at this point. Did you feel like someone working in the business. It's all hands on deck. Against vince mcmahon in the world wrestling federation and just felt like to me that the promoters are getting together and see in the huge success that vance was having and started circle the wagons. You know maybe we should have some conversations and you would always swap out like an individual talent like a in a one match maybe would go to work for a big city and a big show for another promoter coast. Nwea basically all those promoters had an agreement they would work together and you know do all the right things where each other was concerned. But i think awa was pretty much a stand alone you know company and so for them to do a co op. Show with jim crockett promotions. You know it it. Let everybody out there know that. Hey maybe we better start working together a little closely. The promotions cost. You know he was continuing to go around and take the top talent from every territory so in a sense. Jim crockett to combat that. You know he had flare six months or so. Before you know the rock and roll express arrived in the midnight express and the buddy landale and the arn anderson's and all these guys that came along and eighty five for jim. Crockett he was. He was assembling an all star team as well and it was just who could get the dallat because there were no contracts in those days it was a handshake deal and it was your word and and all that but it was a race to gobble up all the talent in pretty much. Have to all star teams. We're building an all star team here. You guys do show in richmond. Virginia here in august and tully blanchard gonna fight magnum to a no contest. When what are you know aren't anderson makes the save on august eighteenth. We've got nine thousand fans in charlotte to see dusty in magnum take on only in the main event singles action and columbia with orange and sam houston on the twenty second A little bit of a change of pace in philadelphia on the twenty third. It's only against jimmy valiant. The bug man and pistol pez wildly. Then we're going to do. Tv on the twenty four for we see and only taking on brody chase and jason walker force that is very much in enhancement Match but let's take a listen to the promo from that show. This is august twenty-fourth nineteen eighty-five. We saw these two men win earlier here today. The national tag team champions only in our anderson toda your body mama's stake in the olden days program.

"So one of the things that i wanted to mention too that we heard there is he referenced where the best tag team in the world. Not these guys running around in tida or anywhere else. it almost feels like hey. I'm talking about the wwf without talking about the wwf in january of eighty five the us express became the tax cam. Speeding adrian. Donald and dick murdoch and then on the thirty first of course at the very first wrestlemainia. The very first wrestlemania was march. Thirty first nineteen ninety-five the iron sheik and nikolai. Volkov would pick up the win become tag champs but then drop it. Back to berry and micro tondo on An episode of championship wrestling july seventeenth. I'm sorry june seventeenth so right before what we're looking at was only in your opinion taking little vailed shots at tag teams quote unquote up north. Well you know it could've no-one only he could have been getting dig and to the baby faces on with. Wwf at the time he could have been pointing towards you know some guys from making headlines iraqi roll express. Who knows exactly who he was. Yeah maybe it is the rock else. 'cause they're gonna come in and maybe at the next. Tv's so that's probably you're probably own something there you know. maybe it was just. He's smarter than the rest of us and he was going ahead and getting a dig in for guys. That weren't there yet. But he knew we're going to be there and make an impact. Let's talk a little bit about The stadium show you alluded to it. In a moment ago. July sixth nineteen eighty five. The very first great american bash year David allan coe is going to do an hour long concert. You've got all the big stars. There flare dusty rhodes magnum. Ta jimmy valley. They're all gonna come out on stage with david allen coe valiants even gonna sing a little bit. And what a spectacular event ron bass is gonna fight buddy landale to a twenty minute time limit. Draw then we've got you guys aren't an only defeating buzz sawyer in dick later when only pen sawyer with an elbow drop from the back of the head behind the referee's back sawyer had aren covered after that flying forearm. What are you remember about your match. Here it's in your new stomping grounds. The home base of jim crockett promotions. You've got a major musical act. It's not just to how show man. This one's got a name. Great american bash. It's going to become a video cassette release. It's a it's a happening here and here you are getting a win. And you're still the tag champs. The national champs. Well i remember you know you gotta you gotta go back and look at the schedule to truly respect. You know what the guys went through and how hard the business was the night before marietta georgia. I'm almost positive. Had a thirty minute broadway with buzz. Okay which was like a our fight for thirty minutes. Then i got in my car showered and drove me charlotte for that show the next day. The stadium show which was not easy. Yeah yeah absolutely so you know. That's two hundred fifty miles or whatever it is. You don't get muchly up the next day you go. Gm very early coach. You had to be at the stadium allow stadium shows. You had to be there early and this was a huge show. A lot of things were happening. That was that was our angle off. Tbs and on off the syndicated shows that was you know the true test of olien. I defended. I'm sure the national tag tag. I don't A lot of things were happening. I'd also being given the word that even though i've been shopped around and booked around went to these other places. I was told that okay. When you come back for the stadium show you will be on the charlotte crew. It's exclusively which meant a lot to me. Because i mean. I was booked around shopped around book. Different places and setup north and all that stuff which was fine. Whatever they wanted to do was fine with me but now told i could come back. Get a place in that. I would not be leaving anymore which meant a lot Customers going to give me some state stability plus the crockett crew. That was just staying in the carolinas. Since i got there mar in march You know they were starting to get that turned around and we were going to be not going now. Only and i would be spending more time in the carolinas. And the the paychecks. Immediately the very next week were much better than they had been going to say grand rapids and some of those towns and skipping around down and some of the georgia towns and all this was this was what was going to be the kick ass crew was going to be the charlotte crew. Well and what did they. It was We're gonna play a little bit of audio from the end of that match. It's great american bash ninety-five again. It's the major pay per view before pay per view was really thing becomes a video released but twenty seven thousand fans are. There aren't an earlier national champs and buzz sawyer and dick slater going to be challenging Let's let's take a listen and the champions. Only and arn anderson proved of the thirty two thousand spectators why they've earned the reputation of the minnesota wrecking crew their opponents however mad dog buzz sawyer and the unpredictable dick slater are kind of wrecking crew of their own in or out of the ring. As a matter of fact they didn't even wait for the bell during before they.

"Couldn't be here without the hall of famer himself the founder of the four horsemen the creator of the spine. Buster ladies and gentlemen. Here he is. It's our own anderson aren't how are you man houser by going good man better than i deserve excited me here. I'm loving what we're doing taking a walk through memory lane and of course we're talking about july of nineteen eighty five today. We tease at the end of last week's episode. But you guys are going to be in. Greenville south carolina on july first. And they're doing ten team battle royal where the winner gets fifty grand. So i guess you only split the brand. Yeah supposedly you won twenty five thousand dollars that night. You're into the purse so we won that yeah. Does this surprise you to tell you. Bless you thank you sorry without chakma still being a male yes something about that sometimes happens that one i would have remembered whatnot. How would think so money out of money especially in those days what you like about about a royal anything not one single thing and i don't think anybody will tell you different knows her way around a business. It was too easy for people to get involved in this thing to get caught up in their own fistfight and step on you. Low achy knee elbow you in the back of the head there. So many things that could happen about a royal. Because it's just it's pitch up and smear with a bunch of grown men and if you've got a prize that big man they're turning it on and it's not a safe place to be it's a. It's a match that i've never heard any wrestler. Say that they actually enjoyed. And i know a lot of fans really love it but Still it's it's the shits. Yep i've heard gallo's say forearm forearm forearm forearm say call about a royal forearm. Four on yeah or the couple more for forearm forearm and the guys that were smart. But it really didn't do a whole lot for your career were the ones they were four corners and you tried to find one of those corners and get your back into it so you could watch everything that was going on and the rain that avoided anything happening behind you. But they're only four of those and once you got there and got settled in most guys didn't like to give that corner up but it didn't leave the aged to a bunch of excitement. If you were in the corner well a couple of days. After that on july third you're going to be at the dorton arena and how about this. It's another tag team battle royal this time. Ivan crusher khrushchev win it. I guess this was just the flavor of the week the other participants in this battle royale are of course magnum. Ta manny fernandez the barbarian and superstar. Billy graham of course you and only jimmy valiant and starship eagle catch everybody up on who starship eagle is. I've been a lot of people. don't recall. who is it. all come on you know who starship eagle was. I really don't scott hall. I didn't remember that. Yeah he came in with a coyote in eagle american starship. Of course coyote was very young. Dan spivey But yeah scott hall here working as starship he goal. How long did that last night very long at all. I think he got his big break with you guys Helping cleaned the ballpark for crockett and then worked his way in here. And he's gonna find some greener pastures up in the awa has some success there and then he's off to the races also in this mash. Buddy landale kendo nagasaki. That's a name. We've spent much time talking about any good kendo nagasaki stories you can share with us kind of double back scott hall that three often. I don't remember like he. That was when he was really big to he was he was a big up. Dude would not remember that. I don't know that must've been a real short stay. I don't think he was there for long less for sure. There's a new sports drama series on stars and it's set in the world of indy wrestling. Heels follows a family owned wrestling promotion as two brothers war over control of the league and their late. Father's legacy ace and jack spades rivalry. Both in and out of the ring is the main event brother versus brother hero versus. He'll even see in punk a stepping back onto the map for a cameo alexander. Ludwig plays a spade to beloved hero. Young hotshot and the star of the duffy wrestling league outside the ring a struggles to reconcile his idol status with this habit for self-destruction saving a male plays his brother and league. He'll jack spade is hard working. Proprietor husband and father is trying to breathe new life into the wwl. Don't miss heels. Premiering sunday august fifteenth only on stars and the stars app had a you know awa at a real good run. Yeah oh well that's probably just my memory playing tricks on me moving on. What was the next question. Kendo nagasaki and you got handle stories. Okay yeah you know. He had that look he had that minjah outfit. I think he had the before mood ahead. The missed muna thinks stolen from him right. I think so. i think it's borrowed. Maybe is the term. They prefer maybe bought on on insult anybody. But i know kendall had it. He was Jj dylan had managed him at some point during his career. I think prior to this maybe in texas or no. That wasn't jj was. Where's the other guy with the bald head. That gary hart. Gary hart. I think that was. The association was familiar with maybe from dallas prior to him coming to crockett or was that afterwards. You know. I don't recall off the top of my head. Let's keep running through the list here. Though we got dick slater and bus sawyer. Ron bass and bus tyler pats knock on danny brown and stoney burke and sam houston haven't spent much time at all talking about stoney burke and he gets tony stories now stony was one of those guys that i think probably pass through pretty quickly that i don't recall if i saw a picture of him. I might sam. Houston we've started figuring out was pretty pretty talented around that time Stoney burke july fourth the next day you're back in the omni man you guys are running the omni. A ton here tells you where the businesses interesting to note here. In july of eighty five. The opening match has bobby eaton and dennis kandari so Kinda co cool little footnote in history when you think about it. The main event is flared magnum. Ta but somewhere in the middle now. It's only an arn against buys and brett sawyer. So it's been a buzz and dick slater. Now it's buzz and brett sawyer so it's family versus family. I like that. Yep me too personal issue. You could skip around when you shoot an idol conrad and you'll remember this in those days. If it was something that really worked you could get away from it for a couple of weeks and still be promoting. Say that there wasn't a show that had those participants the andersons sawyer's say three weeks away. You could still be promoting it and reminding people with a clip on tv. Hey member this happened a week ago two weeks ago and you can keep it fresh without having to just jump and run to that match so the fact that we doubled back in that was now. Brett and buzz is our opponents. People still remembered to pothead. It was still pretty clear in their mind. I want to mention. You're actually gonna miss a couple of shows here. You're gonna miss july fifth and on that's an appearance in richmond. Virginia you were originally supposed to be in a tag match against bass and tyler. Eventually they get deaton. Tatum to substitute for you. And only you're also supposed to be in the main event which once again is a tintin battle royal. But you're not there so instead it's a nine team battle. Royal any idea why you would have missed the show here on the fifth day after the fourth of july.

"There kid. And so they went home and rip wanted to go home and they told a great story. And i remember i. I vividly remember calling it match. And i think i called it twice. I call it then. I think i called it there. And then i called. An editor edited version of it Later on it's one of those. Dvd or those midsouth Dvd's or something so Yeah i was. I was all about that and it was such a fundamental match. It wasn't over thought it was logical and as for today's mar Marketplace conrad it would probably perceived as being very Monday not mundane routine and there was no hurricane. Rana's noto pale suicide. There's there's none of that that fancy shit. They wrestled and they worked in and out of body parts and it was easy for anybody. Grandma or grandson. Follow along so it was Interesting night to say the least. And i'm sure that there's nobody in the building more relieved than terry tater that mash ended. I got through it and it was good one fun story. What a fun night for his career. The the nightmare would ultimately defeat. Terry taylor for the north american title and taylor finds himself back in mid atlantic again. Why was While terry leaving the promotion here and moving over to To jim crockett what is time. only run a weekly territory yet to book a little bit differently than Like like safe. Aws on every wednesday night. We're a tv show and we're not doing live events right now Assume at some point in time that'll occur. No some assumption So it was just time to move on cowboy things fresh it as we documented went all won titles titles and taught were work. Top guys murmur. Yes a massive ernie ladd. You know he. He had he had a lot matches. The top guys and so cowboy fairly thought it was time to to a and it also Sure was under the Back that crockett may wanna terry van that territories pretty hot. So he's leaving one territories. Pretty hot one is very hot. So there's more money there and you know he may have been bill that lucky. Oh dusty they this funny we talk about these things now as a matter of factly that the promotions worked with each other right. And you know we. I don't consider Impact wrestling working with awa the state level. It's just not caracas. Promotion was great and they were doing wonderful business. Were big national. Tv pvs all that. good stuff. And i think terry was jones and to get back to that national same because we were local territory. You know we didn't have the national overlay We did for a few weeks and it did well on. Tv essence. sunday nights By and large it was it was. It wasn't a national presence and that's a lot of young guys wanted. He wanted to build a brand so. I think it was just time. But i don't remember ever being any animosity you know. It was discussed. Terry knew what his schedule was. He knew what he was they were looking at doing and he was excited about going back to the mid atlantic and just on that train moving pretty fast. Let's mention that he's gonna defeat black bart for the national title and hold it until stark eighty-five when all fo- buddy landale would defeat him for it. this is. It feels as if terry taylor is poised for a bigger ruin here. Did you believe at this point. Terry taylor was eventually going to become the world champion. Did you see that in him or not so much. I saw that possibility being real tears personality and kissed perceived arrogates in the eyes of a decision. Makers never did him. Any favors is a smart guy and in mind you know how smart he was and could be a little bit of a dressing room lawyer so for oh school guys. You know cowboy tolerated and a lot. Because terry was throwing money in and all that good stuff so i think that i i think that at one time he had that he always had the skill sets. Do it And but i don't know how seriously he was taken. He wasn't in good political stead with a lot of offices because of his up his perceived arrogant attitude and some o- school guys like a dusty rhodes or cowboy bill watts. they didn't jive with them very well. So that's how i look at that situation. He's gonna eventually come back to mid south or should i say the u. w. f. after stark aid and he becomes the television champion again. This time defeating buzz sawyer. What's what's cowboy. Think of terry taylor the second. Go around after he's come in. It feels like cowboy really tried everything with him. He left went and tried the jim crockett thing for whatever reason i wasn't exactly what he's looking for and now he's back at that. Point has a wrestler. Not just terry taylor specifically but when guy leaves tests is his metal somewhere else and then comes back. Do you think perhaps the promoter seasonable little differently. Maybe he perceives him coming back with his tail between his legs. Or what have you. I don't think so. I think it is. He used today standards. Conrad on that topic. Then i can see where you're headed. Yeah i can understand what your point of view and i'm not disagreeing with it but in that era different nobody. Different deal altogether so Account saw it he thought he could could could reheat -tario up and getting back in title pitchers men event pitcher And terry had learned a lot. Terry had improved his game. And i think cowboys looking for that to be maybe bigger than it was. I don't know our business model is solved at that point time too so that was kind of an issue. Let's let's keep it moving here and talk about the next big program We see cowboy team with terry taylor to face off against the fabulous free birds. Various lava vents. I'm sure you remember some of these masses you talk about two.

"What did you think taylor landale in the ring. Together they had real good chemistry They both were looking for a break. They both looking to show off their skills. buddy had up. He'll climb because you know he's got that nature boy name. I never did understand why he did that. I thought it kind of marketing a little bit. 'cause all he was he was a poor imitation of the original Original in this generation would be ric flair. The original and the other previous generation would be buddy rogers right so But buddy took that landale took that Nature boy thing To heart and a really good. He's underrated worker. You know if buddy had more was more reliable and wasn't So attached at that time to drugs alcohol. He could have been a whole lot better. He didn't he never got to live potential in my view. But when he mashes taylor They had good chemistry. They're really good solid matches and it was sort of like a philosophy one zero one. You had the chicken shit. He'll head achieve your gaining unfair advantage. And you had the baby face who could out wrestle. The bad guy until the bad guy cheated to gain that advantage so as classics losses. Let's also mention that he's going to he being terry taylor pronouns pal thank you how is going to send buddy landale packing out of out as well. Of course we know lendl's gonna have Quite an interesting rhine with Jim crockett promotions. Eventually taylor gets the win over ted. Db aussie who was the north american champion in a title vs title match. And this is a big push. As the north american title is sort of the equivalent of the wbf's World title at the time and what a title it wise. i've. I've heard The rumor innuendo is the e. W belt was loosely inspired by this monstrosity. That was the north american belt. If you don't know what we're talking about google machine but it was quite the spectacle wasn't not yeah. Yeah it was very ornate. Shall we say no terry. Terry terry taylor can never look back on this time. And mid south. And say i wasn't used correctly. Here's given every opportunity to get over. He was book of guys that were taught hands. I mean in that air. You couldn't get any better working with somebody more than ten. Dvr let's say and he was getting a lot of real good experience working top guys. The goal along with the guys he previously worked with and had to learn from so Yeah terry got a great push cowboy kelsall something and there was something there quite frankly so it was An interesting time. Terry taylor was. I'll say this about terry. He he has matches are always very solid. You can adapt to the style the strengths of his opponent. Which is her key the unselfish and utilizing those skills So your obligation is to make your opponent look better than actually is and i thought that was a never have a bad match in that regard but he was working a great guys and he had a cowboys elba motivator and so And terry had a great ego so he was not going to go out there. Not be the best match on the card. If you could keep from it so it was a. It was a really interesting time there again. As you'll see a continue on he had great opportunities to work with the best in the world. Let's talk about the best in the world. It's a one week. Stretch between april. Twenty eight and may third and terry taylor is going to be working. The nwea world heavyweight champion ric flair the other nature boy earn have Four at least thirty minute matches between midsouth in houston wrestling. Did you see any of these matches. What do you remember about those. Yeah so i call the match and the orleans super bowl That was a good match. Terry has a great story about that. I think where it's the biggest match of of his life. He's sort of one of the top guys in mid south and the touring. Nwea champion coming to town. It's a super superdome. Show right and well rick does what rick did back then and nature all night long so shows up to the building late and looking kind of haggard and he takes a nap in the back and of course jerry is very nervous. This is the biggest moment biggest match of his life. And who am. I wrestling This guy's not in condition to perform. Eventually rick wakes up has some coffee. I guess you guys golfing okay. They said taylor after his coffee. It's tremendous you talked about homing somebody. They didn't talk about their match. Like you'll see how of the talents today do He he He he said kid. Get your coffee rick. So a foggy that he might not even know who's working with that night because it didn't matter yeah. They're gonna work match anyway and he knew what he was doing. And there's nobody better Then or now at least my. I'm very biased. So he He he's terry the coffee and i don't know they have much over conversation. Cream and sugar. Are they talked about how they're going to get into the match. They knew the finish and they knew at the time was up the rick and i think like i said they want about forty minutes. Looks like it was going to go to broadway draw. Didn't happen but young. Terry taylor wrestling in one of his idols. In a superdome the biggest view in our territory on the one of the biggest nights of the entire year. he's warning all this download. All this information you know. How can we make this match extraordinarily special. And he didn't get that..

"As we've heard his wrestling fans you would have a referee who would start communicate with both locker rooms and carry finishes back and forth. I think is the phrase that they would use but my question i guess is what does that look like on tv day. I've been led to believe that. Sometimes it's like you guys were quote unquote booking the enhancement. Talent they just show up looking for work. And you know what you got when you get there. Do you have any communication with those guys ahead of time on. Tom's sometimes it would just be. The referee would care them the initiative. You know there was nothing really to talk about. It was if there was any conversation it would just simply be. Hey you know. This is the time we've got a go ahead and tell you in advance. We need to look strong or working with slater and and You know less sawyer so you know just to let you know upfront not be an a dick here but i need to get my shit in and sometimes you would not say that you would just be implied in the guys that were. They were smart enough to know they were there to enhance us and that was their goal for the day. That was their job description of the day and very seldom. Would you have anyone that that wanted to push the envelope and let's just say try. It's a fascinating time to be a wrestling fan. I can only imagine what it must be like to be in the business. You know people always talk about how all the businesses changed. I'm talking twenty twenty now. Twenty twenty one in fact but it's not like it used to be and you know these guys need to slow down just the evolution of everything that has changed in professional wrestling but the business was already changing here in eighty five from the way it was. You know gosh not even ten years prior five years prior right. Oh you had you had more action and any benefit was in the form of you know double dropkick other rock and roll expressed. That was up a level from you know what does done in the past a you looked at the fact. That guys were not all monsters. There were some guys coming along that were smaller midnight. Rock and roll. You know buddy. Landale was certainly no monster. There was new talent coming along. You know that We're changing the face of of what was believable and credible and you a lot more Let's just say value started to have some extraordinary bodies show up you know the nikita coal loss. And you know wouldn't be too long before the luger's and billy graham's and all these guys were just phenomenal you know jimmy snuka on. We're getting a little bit of course here but just just tell you the these type guys were starting to show up. There were different animals that were appearing as a professional wrestler from what it had been. Let's just say the seventies is interesting to take a look at this era and think about what the context twenty twenty one. what all's different Here's an example on june twenty-ninth. You guys are running augusta georgia once again. It's dick slater and buzz sawyer. Taking on oli in our anderson in the semi main event. The two days later on june thirtieth nineteen eighty-five cody rhodes is born. And knowing what's going on now in twenty twenty one with a w. and that you guys are back together and of course all the tangled webs that the roads and the andersons would leave as part of that four horsemen story. Line here the next coming years it. I can't. I can't look at that and not smile and think about boy if we only knew back then if we were to go back and talk to mardi lundy here on june thirtieth nineteen ninety-five say see that baby dusty has gotten that picture right there. One day you're going to walk to the ring with him. That's that's cool man. he's gonna be my boss at. Maybe you're out there. One day is going to tell you what to do. I got no problem him. Me and my boss or dustin for that matter. You know it's it's if you go back and look at the crocodile tears and we'd take wrestling out of it for just a moment dear dear and that year period. It's like cody was born. My son barrett mold was born it all somewhere in there. Charlotte flair was born. There were a lot of babies that were born. That are now in the business. Yeah and the thing is it was such a a. I can't tell you what a family atmosphere was you know amongst teams. I mean the oarsmen reason at worked. Well it's cost. We were friends and we trained together and we traveled together. We had a few bruschi together. And you know we would go to the lake together we go to rick's out by the pool together and you know the rock and roll expressed. They were friends. You know and dusty and magnum there were like like father inside you know i. It was a close knit group in those days. And jim crockett promotions as a whole because this thing was getting ready to pop and it was starting to be you know catching luxury to call it on fire and all these you know more talent was coming in at these times of fresh in everything up and it was just one of those deals. You felt this thing is percolating and inspection pop and just one of the things that was going on. All the wives were having babies all the all. The guys were buying houses and that would be start to come within the next year in business were yet on fire but you know it just was a family setting and you were achieving all these things together and you could feel it and it was a family atmosphere and you were drawing money together your lives were intertwined and it was just a it was a different feel of course now you know guys that worked for an individual company whether it's wwe or a w they all live all over the country.

"Want to mention this. Is the era. Where as we said earlier. Jim crockett's expanding so we're running to cruise. So like when you're in trenton. new jersey. There's a whole other group of guys working in marion. Ohio at the county fairgrounds coliseum. Guys like dusty rhodes where there dick slater and here when you're in pittsburgh working really long match. The other crew is in columbia south carolina. The mate of over there is magnum. Ta and buddy landale the main event on your show here in pittsburgh is ron garvin and tully blanchard at the time there the national heavyweight champion and the television champion. Did you ever preference which card you'd rather be on. I mean conventional wisdom would say well the one that pays the most duh but in terms of working in front of columbia south carolina fans working in front of pittsburgh fans have a preference fans have nothing to do with it but that ninety miles from charlotte bego had everything to do with your shopping. Ucar our twenty minutes. You were sitton in the doorway in columbia. That's the kind of stuff where you're in this for the long haul and you've been to some places already that had horrible. You know travel schedules. Which bid south and then you had pensacola. Which was a piece of cake. You knew the difference where you saw your booking. Even if pittsburgh did you know really good business for that time still you had to get onto planes. You had to go through to rent a car lines. You had to find building all that stuff probably had the first flight out the next morning there was just a lot more involved and i'm not complaining. That's what i signed up for. You know it wasn't a matter if our had three connections to even get you there on a plane it would've been outstanding because i'm living the dream and it's all kicking the in about that time figured out you know. Hey we're we're going all these major cities and you're the good position certainly don't bitch about the travel and it went. There's a big difference when you're twenty six and when you're forty six talk to me a little bit about you know your attitude towards wrestling in how maybe it changed because we've talked a little bit about big guys or time talents. Who probably could have performed on a bigger stage. A guy like bullet. Bob comes to mind. I mean he could have been a much bigger national star but he wanted to be close to home. And you're all pow mr stubb's he sort of felt the same way based on your testimony but you eventually have to make a decision. Do you know what i mean. Do you want to be a local guy. Do okay or do you really want to swing for the fences and try to see how far you can take this thing is that really. What motivates you to make that trip to pittsburgh scooting over to columbia if you didn't want to be in the main event and the biggest company in the world or the second biggest company in the world or as you're making your way to the biggest company in the world whichever one you happen to be working for if you don't want to be on last you don't wanna be figured in the event and if you don't want to have a bearing on the success of the company and you probably ought to find something else to do now keep in mind bob. Armstrong and the fuller's jimmy golden jerry. Stubbs all those guys had decided in their mind. You know i ach can make plus they had you know. Here's the key thing. Kyra had points set for jerry. When you got points and the company you know. Let me see now. What i want to go to charlotte which is rebuilding. Maybe may Sixty seventy grand or what. I won't stay right here. In pensacola and make seventy grand travel a miles a week and a lot of them because they were you know they all bought homes. They all put their kids in school. All the armstrong's went through gulf breeze. You know school system. Ns just a a heavenly life. But if you're a young single guy like i was at the time Which has nothing to do with anything. Other than the fact that i don't have kids at home and a wife yet and all those responsibilities all i had to do was learned the business i can just concentrate on the business and in those days it was very important because you are working guys. You've never worked with you. Go into towns you've never been to and people different towns perceived you different ways and everything was a challenge but every day was fresh and brand new to. That's why i looked at it and the travel didn't bother me. it was just. I knew the difference. Hi now everyone.

"Be sure to ask you. How did you hear about us. Right in a r. n. So they know that we sent you and it's also worth mentioning that this is the The match that started the fire of jim crockett promotions. I mean jim. Crockett promotions was already place. That guys wanted to work. I mean it already had a reputation as you know. One of the hotter territories to be a part of and good paydays and good scheduling and good creative. Dusty rhodes is there and ric flair is there but now that hulkamania has really taken hold in america. It's starting to feel like the territories are becoming a thing of the past because this new rock and wrestling thing has taken on a life of its own. Wrestlemainia is here and on the heels of that. Jim crockett promotions finds themselves with one of if not the biggest television opportunity in all of wrestling with this. Wcbs feed and man. You wanna talk about timing. You're you're coming right into the promotion right. Is there going national for lack of a better word. That you're timing could not have been any better. I feel like you're a hundred percent right because there was a group of talent and i wish i had the exact dates in front of me but i can remember the guy's now jim crockett all those things that you mentioned had been in the past a very successful company at had went through a dip around this time in business Business was down a little bit because it was a rejuvenating as far as the guys were bringing any in a dusty taken over the book and he was starting to have flair and the the people that he was fine and the people that dusty wanted to bring in. It felt like to me. You could just tell that. There was a line drawn in the sand between the wwf in jim. Crockett promotions and Jim crockett acquiring that television. It felt like okay. We're fixing to go to war. And now like i said i wished i had this the exact dates. But you're talking about of a sudden you had the midnight. Express the rock and roll express. Yet arn anderson buddy landale The garbage came aboard during that period. And you had and. I'm sure i'm missing some some guys but you had a pretty good chunk of talent and a couple a month period. Go to work for jim. Crockett and you could just feel it. Insensitive in the woods new to blood and and you just knew things were lining up and fiction interesting. How about this manny. Fernandez is going to defeat arn anderson by q. Around the seven minute and fifteen seconds mark. "Off your first order with free shipping. That's feels dot com forward slash own. We're not going to be taken out of the check today. We're talking about all things mid-atlantic wrestling and of course last week and paul did a nice little watch along and now we're gonna pick it up where we left off april of eighty five. You and i ran through march of eighty five. But you're gonna start. April eighty five on april second in spartanburg south carolina at the memorial auditorium. It's a tv taping for worldwide and they ran a little promotion there where the first five hundred fans in attendance received a free t shirt new probably needed one of those. Because you're working double duty here. You're gonna team with buddy landale to take on same houston danny brown. Of course you guys are on the a side of that one. But then there's a dark match with you and manny fernandez and man you and manny our heating up in a hurry and you know the thing about that. Dark match served a lot of purposes you could announce it to the public as something that they could be sure they were gonna get in those days they got it and it would be considered a main event and you know may just getting there getting put in that spot it from a positioning. It made you look like oh okay. They are going to go with sky. And you know man. I clicked pretty pretty quickly and that became a thing for for a while. Yeah for a while indeed. The next day you're in raleigh at dorton arena and once again working with manny. You pick up the win there. The following day. You're off a rare off-day but on april fifth. You're once again. Working with manny fernandez. This time to a no contest in columbia south carolina. You're at township auditorium. We've spoken a little bit about dorton arena and how much i love the arena. In how cool it looks. But tony shirvani just said it was hot and it was a dump and it was measurable Did you have any favorite buildings in the crockett territory. A building in particular. Where you just knew. I like the town i like the arena. I like the people like the accommodations. Any of that. stick out. Well they usually go to were the ones that were close. You know charlotte obviously grange borough. All those that were close. Columbia was one that that i favored because of the way it was built. You know it was one of those arenas that you know it was like built almost straight up lack. The seats in the upper deck. Were like almost over the rain and that was a cool environment. Loved richmond because you know that was a big arena here for big shows and held a lot of people. Lot of lot of great buildings Acoustics were always a good thing if you were an arena. That had some really good acoustics and everything sounded loud and you know because the noise go straight up there was. There was a slight delay so when it was a full it was just a funky atmosphere. But you know some of the crock in those days especially when we first got their business was not the best yet so they would opt to go to smaller arenas especially for television and for me. I like to sweat anyway sweater. I'm one of those guys. That loves to sweat. When i wanna sweat but i can't stand it when i don't obey. You're one of those guys. Oh yeah so you know being on that. Tv and having a good sweat going it was just conducive. And and you know i think the fans even you know for those towns once they gotta sweat and they looked around and realized they were soaked. Dan hey what are you going to do about it. Let's go ahead and have a good time so it made for great atmosphere wanna mention Tv the next day april sixth year at the wcbs studios and It's interesting because this is the very first episode that is promoted by jim. Crockett promotions so as a reminder wrestling has been on. Tbs for a long time but april six thousand nine hundred five. This.

"Thing and buckle up every day or nine click it or ticket paid for by nitsa chemmy up a little bit about and this is going to be a bit of an awkward conversation. I'm sure but at this point it feels like why it's probably would have been one of the guys pushing for. Hey we need an african american top guy He had certainly set the woods on fire with junkyard dog generation. Before but it feels like at this point that's still sort of lacking in american professional wrestling I know that. W w on the other side had tried it with ron simmons and it was a great effort and we had a lot of great matches and it was a special moment. And it's still very important and we value to this day but he didn't exactly shake out to be the top draw. Maybe that w envisioned when they had tried this with junkyard dog than mid south. Was that a conscious effort that. Hey this is the guy right. I mean it feels. Like i'm johnson. Could have been that guy i yeah. Ahmed could have been greenie. Probably would have been that guy he just again. There's you take sit for example Sid you just looked at said walked into a room and had that that same animal magnetism and sin was going to get ninety five thousand stars on his matches. What have you But he had crispin had something very special about not sits. The same thing with ahmet matter. So i'm ed's gonna make his raw entering debut in defeat. Jake steel with the pearl river plunge. Do you know who would have helped name that and whose idea. This was for a finnish. The pearl river i believe was something that you know in discussions with ahmed back and forth and i do believe the bill watts was involved in this was was just something in telling his story and believe it or not you know routes was was one of the i guess resources use that ahmed was very passionate about and it all just came up where it's gonna come from pearl river mississippi and that's why we came up with pro river. Plunge i don't know if it was watson nightmare michael hayes but it was issued. Take it you take this bucket in power mom that he knows and you give it. His all main is identifiable with men. Let's let's keep it rolling here and let's talk about shawn michaels. Let's remember that he is one of the top guys in the promotion. He's fresh off of a world title match at wrestlemania eleven. We know he's going to be crowned the new champ wrestlemainia twelve and almost right away. You see shawn. Michaels doing a promo where. He's talking about tagging with ahmed johnson survivor series. I mean this has to be one of the strongest debuts in company history he debuts in the first time we see him. He's body slamming yokozuna now. The parents to the world title is talking about tagging with him at the survivor series. Vance just sees money with this guy is you know there's an old adage it's you go back and you look it even the territory days. Where when you brought someone in if you brought them in on top they viewed as a top gop. that's right. It was a lot harder to get someone over if you brought him in underneath and they work their way at the card. Now that takes time to do you bring someone in on top league in. It's somebody that people go holy shit amid was a holy shit kinda guy the bring it on top. They're going to accept them. Is the top guy. The wildcard team at survivor series. Ninety five has shawn michaels ahmed johnson davey boy and psycho said defeating razor ramon yokozuna when harding douglas. So as you run through that. I mean with the exception of dean. It's all top guys and obviously shane. Douglas very capable wrestler. But the dean douglas character never quite got there. But everybody else here. I mean this is main event stuff dude all the way around. Do you remember there being any backlash in the back. I know that sounds silly. But you've got a lot of other guys who have probably been waiting and thinking. Hey what about me and maybe raising. Their hands isn't fair. I've been here this whole time and this guy comes in i. M does that exist for that exists for everybody that ever got to a top spot that with people that felt that they should be in that spot. So you're not sure. Of course it did. I think that no matter what if someone has been there forever and again in that spot. The guys been couldn't do anything with them. Why are they in that spot. Someone new comes in and gets spot. Heya been here forever on that spot. It goes both ways in that is the wrassling businesses. Some people say so. Let's talk about what's next for him. He's gonna program dane. Douglas for an upcoming in your house and the rumor and innuendo at. Tom was ahmed. Was gonna work with king kong bundy to get over on another big man but with shane. Douglas wanting out of the company. The decision is made to have ahmed. Adm on the way out. Is that the way remember that. Originally the plan was bundy. But when douglas sorta gives his notice we adjust court. Kenan the business. Monday every time you cash a check your state money monday. I don't i you know. I really don't i know that i'm ed coming in. Yeah we were looking to do a lot of things with ahmed and you put it with top guys top programs so specifically remember. He was gonna work with bundy bundy. No i sure don't remember that at all. So let's talk. About december eighteenth nineteen ninety-five certainly in the server amid. Johnson is so strong and clumsy. Doing his power moves. That guys who work long programs with him candidates for back problems so clearly. Someone had already put a bug in meltzer's here that they didn't like working with ahmed win. Did you first start to hear the rumblings of. Hey maybe he's not the safest guy out there. I think that when the bell rang a lot of times there you could hear guys say oh man. I don't wanna work ahmed. I'm ed was snuck. I'm it was clumsy. Ahmed was green and still needed work. But you you take that in you try to learn them. All the way down from multiple warrior said on down the line. There are a lot of guys you try to work through that but without a doubt. I think that there was a lot of talent that just by looking at ahmed didn't wanna get hit with any of those clotheslines lines or some of those tackles. Do you remember shane. Douglas having a problem with the bush. Ahmed was getting. I mean it sort of the tale of two guys right like one comes in. He's positioned right away as a top guy. The other guy said success in e cw a prior wb ephron and wcw bunch of tag runs over. There feels like hey man. I got the right. Look i got the right background. Got the right experience and now. They're pushing ahmed. Shane upset with this was or not but again. I think you're comparing apples pomegranates. At that point because one guy as you said had been around he wasn't getting over in that position and ahmed was a new talent. That was coming in was gonna be way. Here's an experiment. Let's let's go with this. We've tried with the tried and true and Charged something else. You're still gonna go with the tried and true but you're going to use them to help get over. So let's mention the The amid dean. Douglas match doesn't happen. Douglas hurts his back. He's replaced with buddy landale. Here's what the right up looks like. I'm ed pin buddy landale and forty two seconds with the pearl river plunge dean. Douglas came out and said he was scratched from the show by the doctor with a bad back but was bringing in landale. His replacement landale came out rick flair old. Wwf music and then he jumped johnson. Who didn't sell anything after the match. Johnson spanked douglas with a paddle lawler than interview johnson. And when jared came back he He broke a plaque over. Johnson's head. jarrett hit him several times with brutal chair shots and the two brawled to the back. Johnson didn't seem to know what to do because the brawl looked pretty bad. So i'm ed wood would mention that he felt like You know his spanking of dean. Douglas was essentially a punishment for dean..
