"Is different, but in terms of preparation for the tournament and certainly everyone knows what you guys did last year. Is this week more of a simulator, it's so different than choose their Wednesday and Saturday. Does it help you get in the mindset as you get ready for next week? No question. I mean, because you got fans in your hotel lobby. You have a police escort, you know, to come to practice. And we'll obviously have that to go to the game. And the environment of multiple teams in one. So I think it's certainly gets you ready for the NCAA tournament and, you know, our position is how do we position ourselves best from a seating standpoint and then also how do we remain fresh and ready to play once we find out where we're going after selection Sunday. I want to talk about because sometimes you're playing on Sunday. Who knows with a tournament like this? Where you'll be. But that is an amazingly quick turnaround, but you've done it before a couple of times, obviously what you did in Nevada is legendary. So you're watching Sunday after Sunday afternoon early evening and you see your name, you see the opponent. What happens next? Massive preparation. I think what we'll be able to do, Paul's will probably be able to on Saturday night will meet as a staff and we'll probably have like 12 teams. Okay. And one of those 12 for the, since we've made tournaments, we've been what's been one of those 12. So we'll start a little bit of mystery. You have a pretty good feel just based on the different resources that you can look at. But then Sunday as soon as your name is called, we'll let the team go or stay and celebrate, you know, we'll have obviously selection Sunday party. And then about two hours after that, when we know who we're playing, it'll take us about two hours to start our preparation. And we'll just go through the personnel that first night. And then it'll trickle into their sets and defensive schemes and so on and so forth. But we will want our players on Sunday Night to understand the top key players for their opponent that will play in the first game. Obviously you've done it every level from the NDA to college. But is there anything quite like preparing for an NCAA tournament game? Nothing. There really is. I mean, in the NBA playoffs, you know, your first game is almost like a boxing match where it's round one, but you know you still got to get to a bunch more rounds. And so, you know, here it's one and done, man. Like, I told our team, we're only guaranteed two games right now. This game that we're gonna play tomorrow, and then the NCAA first round game, and that's all we're guaranteed, and it's up to us from a productivity standpoint, whether we survive beyond that. Success is interesting, and sometimes people that are successful in a tournament and you obviously have been very successful. You lean on what you've done, but it's a different component. So can you take or do you take from Nevada to last year and try to apply it to what's happening Sunday Night? I'll say the biggest thing, Paul, you're never out of any game. And you know, we learned that being down 20 plus points to Cincinnati with under 9 minutes to go. We were down, I think, 13 points to Texas with under 6 minutes to go. And then our last regular season game this year at Arkansas that we're playing at Tennessee. You know, we're down 22 at one point in the first half when we come back and gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game. And I think that's the biggest thing that we continually talk to our team about is you're never out of a game and a game's never over till the final buzzer. And so we've got to have great belief regardless because you're going to go through a scoring drought. How much can your defense carry you? Yeah, and we saw that today in the first game, Florida, down 14, 15, nearly won the game. As you think about bigger picture, your tenure, there is just so much enthusiasm and so much excitement. And I've had this conversation with you and you like to let it marinate, but you don't let it sit there very long. I mean, you've got to have a great feeling about this Odyssey so far. I mean, I know we're in the middle of the we're about to be in the middle of the NCAA tournament. We've got we're in the middle of the SEC, but you stop and think, this has been quite a run. No, it's been a blast. I mean, it really has. I mean, we celebrate our wins. Losses we don't handle really well as a group. But you know what? Our team has taken on a personality that the whole group has. You know, and it's a competitive group. But it's also a group that plays with joy. Hopefully we practice with joy. But it's been awesome. I mean, bud Walton arena to know what's happened, you know, in three years has been really fun and exciting. In the entire state, Paul is really fired up right now, not just for basketball. I mean, you go to a baseball game with coach van horn's team. It's packed coach Pittman's got it rolling in football. So it's really a fun campus to be a part of right now. And I'm glad to see it because I think a lot of people, there were dark years in basketball in terms of success and then your predecessor. I think brought it back to a level of getting close. And my memory is all of those Eddie Sutton years, no one Richardson, I mean, there wasn't a better place in the country to go to a basketball game than Fayetteville Arkansas. There's no doubt I think, you know, that's the intriguing part when the job opened is to think about what coach Richardson did to think about what coach Sutton did knowing what bud Walton could be if in fact you win, you know, there's going to that building is going to generate excitement if you win. And it's unlike most jobs because it's the show in the state. And yeah, I remember even my dad coaching at the university of Minnesota. There's still, you know, not just the gophers, but then you got the Timberwolves and you got, you know, the twins and the Vikings. And so it's a unique situation being the state protein, basically, for all sports. It's not unusual, we see it a lot, sons of coaches. And I've covered some. They can be very difficult stories because they just don't always work out. And in your case, it has. And I know your.

"Those guards make you nervous. Because both of them are supremely confident and they can make plays and they can make shots, but boy, they take some bad shots and. Create some less than ideal possessions late in games. And let me ask you this Garret what's the ideal possession look like or the usage rate or whatever because like with jabari Smith, he's had some of his most statistically impressive games over this 8 game stretch, but as you mentioned, there are 5 and three over that stretch. So all season long, everyone all around the country has been saying, yo, we got to get jabari Smith 20 shots a game, 18 to 20 shots a game. More like something in that neighborhood as opposed to a lot of nights, November through January, where you were seeing him only shoot the ball 9, ten, 11 times a game. Well, all of a sudden, he does start taking 18 to 20 shots a game, and that's when you see them start to lose games. So what's that balance? And do you trust that Bruce is going to find that balance now as we get within a week or so of their season being on the line every time they touch the floor? I don't mind jabari Smith getting 20 shots. You know, 15 to 20 shots. That's fine with me. He's uniquely talented. The issue with him being your best player, it's a good problem to have. Because he's unbelievable. But he's not really a guy you just throw the ball to. And say, go make a play. He's not very good bouncing it. You know, that's an obvious thing that's going to have to improve as he embarks on a professional career. So typically, when you're talking about a guy who's a projected number one pick, or at least a potential number one pick, who is a perimeter oriented player, it's going to be somebody that you can throw it to on the wing and go to, you know, go make a play. Or set a ball screen for him and let him go make a play. Like Paula Ben Carroll can go make a play. Ted holmgren can go make a play. Jabari again, because he doesn't really bounce it too well or often. You've got to sort of put him in a position to make a shot. And so I don't want to oversimplify it. But whatever gets in transition, he's going to get in transition. But what auburn has got to figure out, if it really wants to compete for national title, is how do you handle late game situations, getting the ball into your best player's hands in a place where he can succeed, do something with it. Auburn's got this weird thing. I wonder if there's any other team in the country like this. There are two best players are not really players you throw it to in, you know, a late shot clock, late game situation. Walker Kessler and jabari Smith, they get what they get, but I don't know that you're running stuff for them in a down by one with 14 seconds left situation. Well, and they tried it in that loss, was it at Florida, right? Where window green has the ball in his hands at the top of the key. And they set up a high pick and roll with walker Kessler, the look is there, momentarily, but Wendell can't make the pass for whatever reason. And then you got jabari coming off of a screen on the wing, but Wendell decides to put his head down and drive to try and go make something happen. And it's like, yo, you know, you got your two best players there available on that play and it doesn't happen, you know? I wonder if the best spot for them in that spot is just a pick and pop with jabari. You know, he's legit 6 11 can shoot over anybody. He's a great shooter. Like, why is the worst thing in the world just getting him a pick and pop jumper? I take that over a lot of the stuff we get from Katie Johnson and when they'll agree, but I'll let Bruce pearl and his staff figure that out. They've done a nice job this season. I mean, they're a projected one seed right now. So we're nitpicking a little bit. When you are in championship weekend for a projected one seed, your problems are smaller than most people's problems. But auburn in a late game situation, you know, that can get a little tricky. Right now, Jerry palm projects it as a 6 bid league, the SEC. Auburn, as a one C, Kentucky as a two C, Tennessee, as a three seed, Arkansas, as a four seed, and then Alabama and LSU is 5 seats. So 6 bids, all top 5 seeds, and I ultimately do not think Florida or a and M gets there. I don't think they're going to crack it. I think the winner of that first game will lose the second game to auburn. I would assume, but again, you know, wild things happen sometimes. What do you got for the SEC tournament title game? Yeah, I'm going Arkansas over Kentucky. And we'll pick, we'll take. Obviously. So the reason I like Arkansas here is because if you look at their numbers and just pull up their page on sports reference or what have you, you're like, oh my gosh, this poor JD notes, he gets no help whatsoever. And that was the case, in fact, during November, and December, and even into January, when they started out one in three in the SEC. But as of late, Arkansas has been getting a lot of help. And so I think this is an Arkansas team that is very much following the formula of last year's elite 18 team that is getting a lot better as the season goes on. So Stan Lee Stanley and mude, 15.4 over his last ten, Jalen Williams 14.4 and 10.4 rebounds a game over his last ten. And then Audi's Tony averaging ten points a game over his last ten as well. And during that span, you've seen Devo Davis start to shoot the three ball fairly well in addition. So JD note is starting to get help, which is what this Arkansas team needed all along to be good. And they've already beaten auburn once. They've already beaten Kentucky as well. So I've got Arkansas over Kentucky in the SEC title game. Now granted, both of those victories I mentioned for Arkansas over those teams came at bud Walton arena. And we've covered the fact that these top 14s were just dominant at home. So the neutral site element of it does make it interesting. But it's not as if they'll be playing at rupp arena or playing at auburn arena. So I think Arkansas is the hot team right now. They're only two losses in the last two months or buy one at Alabama and by four at Tennessee. So that's a team that's playing pretty well. I've got the same title game. I've got Kentucky against Arkansas. My semifinals would be auburn against Arkansas, Tennessee against Kentucky. Then I got to Kentucky and Arkansas advancing to the championship game. And then I've got Kentucky winning it. I said on an episode of the on college basketball podcast a few weeks ago that I thought Kentucky would lose one more time in the regular season. And then not lose again until the NCA tournament and that they would be a one seat in the incidentally tournament. And I think at this point we are on track for that. They lost at Arkansas by a bucket. And now I just need them to win the SEC tournament and they'll be right where I thought they'd be. Ultimately, I think that's what happens. I think Kentucky wins this thing. Remember, Kentucky has a home court advantage wherever it goes. It is technically a neutral court situation. But you'll see a lot of Kentucky blue in that building for every game. They're on another level right now. Yeah, and Arkansas has been playing really well. Like you said, 14 and two past 16 games, lone losses, Alabama, Tennessee, on the road, by a total of 5 points..

"You ask me with a straight face. You ask me with a smart face. You said which place can be more hyped on Tuesday night. But Walton or Mackie and I told you bud Walton, just like that, you express you express skepticism. Yeah. You're free to walk it back right now for our friends in the natural state if you want to. Not a shot. Do you see what happened at Mackie too? Did you see what Brad Underwood said after? Absolutely walloped Illinois. I can only hear what people say, I can't see it. Did I say that did I say did you see what? Oh, I saw it on the graphic. That's why. Well, actually, technically, I guess you could see what somebody said. You could see it. I'm not walking it back. Blood Walt was awesome. Put out that poll. Mackey arena won two to one, by the way, against bud Walton arena. Macarena is just a better spot. I don't know what to tell you. Arkansas fans, your phenomenal, that was incredible environment. You're not taking something into consideration that we've talked about multiple times on the podcast. I saw that Mach arena one the poll. But a lot of the anti Purdue votes would come from Indiana fans in the state of Indiana and as you know, their Internet's out. How is that Arkansas Internet working out for you right now? Oh boy, it's strong. Yeah. It's strong. Although I will tell you bar Pullman who's a bit of a media member in the state of Arkansas for a long time. I used to go on a show all the time and he pointed out last night that I used to come on for years. And say, this is a sleeping giant. This Arkansas basketball program. When I was just a little child growing up on the other side of the mighty Mississippi, I can remember Arkansas being one of the biggest and baddest basketball programs in the entire country. And when they got a good team, that is one of the places in the SEC where people truly care and want to care. You just gotta find the right guy to get it back to that point. And it appears that guy is Eric musselman. I forgot and I said that a million times. But I appreciate bark pointed out to the Arkansas fans because that distracted them from the fact that I did not have them ranked throughout this 8 game winning streak. By the way, I don't if you're looking at an entire body of work, you should not have had Arkansas rank. Prior to last night. But when you're doing what they're doing now, 9 straight wins, they've now got multiple quadrant one wins, and they've got this massive victory over auburn. I have moved the razorbacks into the top 25 and one. Speaking of body of work, look at us. Look at us, obviously anyone listening can't see this, but go ahead and find that tweet on there. He shirtless. With his arm in a sling, so got off the floor, shirt came off. Just simply incredible. He wound up doing the postgame on ESPN2 in the vomitorium, got clear that court storm. I was watching a lot of stuff at once and I was doing some radio. So I did not see I think Katie Johnson of auburn might have gotten caught up a little bit in that courts. I'm glad that seemed like it went off without any kind of incident there. And that's a good thing. But yes, clearly to circle back to this copy or question. An incredible environment. Bud Walton arena holding close to 20 K, great to see that I actually did watch for about like ten minutes on earlier on Tuesday. Or Monday, I watched the YouTube video of win number two auburn went into Arkansas and lost to the hogs back in 1999 and that was a fun nostalgic trip down memory lane there. Just you know, the old snout as you preferred it, by the way, the sloppy hog, not that not that bitterly angry thing they got going on in the middle of the court these days. The sloppy hog, the slobber. The slobber hog. But yeah, you can see the box where you can see the stats here from CBS. Courtesy and nada on the stream. And the win obviously puts a little bit of chaos into the SEC standings. And still leads the conference at ten and one, Kentucky is now 9 and two in Arkansas, oh, by the way, sitting there at 8 and three. So razorback fans, you know, in the throws of this morning, I think still have some hope that maybe maybe just maybe we can pull off a way to finish the top of the league standings. We'll see if they get there that win against auburn, by the way for Arkansas is the only time similar how to auburn only has to face Kentucky once. Only has to fake Arkansas once will not get the razorbacks back on the plains there. 9 consecutive wins, I haven't done the math, but I got to figure with this kind of resume at this point, Arkansas is looking like a 6th seed, 19 and 5 overall, maybe even a 5 seed. Now they're wins early in the season as you point out from a resume perspective weren't that worthy. Probably about 5 C I'm blindly looking at it here for auburn real quick and then take it away. Again, Wendell green junior is a fun player, but his shot near the end of that game was horrendous. And jabari Smith, although he did get off 16 attempts on Tuesday night, which was more than I think the 8 or 9 he had against Georgia. And Smith had a big three that kind of cut the deficit in made the game still and doubt late. I still want him to get more touches. It's still kind of his artemy. Now they have a lot of guys who can score and play make. I get all that. Wendell green junior, Katie Johnson, Alan flanagan with a significant piece on last year's team and he's still getting, he's still getting worked into this. He started in the game last night, but I just can't help but wonder if auburn and Bruce pros got to know this. But if it's going to be this final four national championship team, it's got to have a little more alpha from jabari, more consistently late. And I don't know if that's the exact reason why they didn't pull it out, because again, javari had 20 points. It's not like he was he was lacking. But I just thought there were moments, possessions late in that game where they should have looked to find him more than relying unnecessarily on Johnson or green. How about the final possession of regulation? Shot clocks off. You're in a tie game. Look, I don't mind when though green taking the final shot, I hated that shot. I mean, he got their last four field goals and regulation. Like four field goals final four minutes. And three of those baskets came on layups. He was getting to the rim. And then he didn't even attempt to get it. He just pulled, like from the snout. He wanted to win it from the snout, which I understand on a basic human level. It would have been an incredible highlight, but the problem, of course, is he's a 33% three point shooter. Why are you pulling from the snout with the game on the line? Now, I do think we were in one of those situations where if he would have tried to get to the rim again, he would have had to score. Like, they were not going to blow the whistle in cauliflower in that moment, or at least it was going to have to be a clear cut. I can't not call this foul foul. So whatever, but the shot was horrendous. If that were Steph Curry or the woman who plays at Iowa, I'm fine with it. But window green pulling from the snout hit the buzzer. He and Caitlin Clark. That's for sure. Is outrageous. I'm with you on jabari. He did get 16 shots, but it ended up with 20 points. So if you didn't watch the game, it looks okay, well he got 16 shots, got 20 points. Wasn't the most efficient player on the court, but, you know, it's a, you know, you got 20 points on 16 shot. But, you know, he had a couple big shots late that got the point total up there. I didn't think I'm with you. I didn't think he was prioritized enough in the final minutes of regulation. And when you were operating with somebody who might be the number one pick in the draft and I love on the when you're operating with somebody who might be the number one pick in the draft, you know, you gotta do something to get him a little.

"You know, you look at LeBron was worth 36 or about to be very safe. Like bad assed homeowners. He is probably for another title. You know, this is this is a great chance for the lake is like, you know. I can only imagine all those guys Dwight Howard said. He is going to be often it is going to be going down Orlando to play and, of course, J. R. Smith as well, too, with the Los Angeles Lakers. So my question is here. I'm the anchor for the SEC Network. An idea. I don't work here with Katie George to works and runs basically the A C C network. Can you tell Katie that as good as Duke is as good as North Carolina is good. Virginia is Nobody could have rolled up in Bud Walton Arena. When you guys had it rolling like they would have been ready for for that type of environment, right? Then we were used to mark these markings coming inboard walls. That was ah, man. That's great atmosphere of great environment, and my college days were Probably did best years of basketball. For me. It's helped me a lot and plan in front of those fans and I'm from Mattel rocks or playing in front of those fans off. What was the hardest place to play in the league? Whenever whenever you're playing because you bounce around, obviously had an unbelievable career, and you went to a bunch of different places. What was the one place where you felt like it was Maura like going onto the road and going into Lexington and playing it rough or something like that. Utah, Utah, Denver Those house, too, especially the Utah because defends there are fanatics, you know the jazz or pretty much Everything for them. They don't have another professional sports, So the jazz fans are amazing. I remember going in their plan. Man. That's a very hostile environment, Then you fight against them and the attitude like that. It was. It was a sleepiest place. The place that you had to get up yourself because you looked at you like this place is dead anyway. Sleepiest place. Oh, no, man. Probably. You know what? Probably when I first time with Atlanta and 05 Man, That was it was a bear. When I first got, you know, we probably had about four or 500 people understand? There was bad you had to create Julian's Bring your juice, right? That's what they say. Bring your juice. Yeah. Yeah, man, you will be bringing it. Here It is. The tournament dot com For more information is going to be on ESPN, ESPN two. Just tell these young bucks just give you the rock and just be like, Just watch out of the way Joe Johnson about to go to work. That's the best the collective we really appreciate the time. Thank you guys. Thank you. That is Joe Johnson. I love how he goes out there, says Man, it was tough when I was with the Hawks, who was that? What's tough for playing with the Atlanta Hawks back in? 05 would like 75 people in the stands or going to play this tournament tomorrow and not having the roll the ball out with your teammates. Like what? Katie? There you are. Which one I mean, they haven't practiced together yet is what he said. Like they will play in a game tomorrow. This makes me intrigued to watch my back. So, yes, this is the angle. This is not as good as the angle of the W W E wrestling match in which someone's going to lose an eye. But I'm actually a little bit more intrigued with this. A swell to Katie George. Alright, let's end this segment. We got advance auto parts. His role advance auto parts, has added another winner to their roster. Diehard batteries. That's right..

"Subscribe now to the record on Apple. Podcasts spotify Stitcher. Or wherever you get your podcasts so the NBA's do G. League programme figures to have an impact on college basketball. It could be minimal. It could be profound a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer writing about this issue is headlined with new. Nba G. League programme means beginning of the end of the NCWA as we know it so to get some perspective on the NC Double A. Impact I want to bring in Eric Muscleman. Who was the head coach at the University of Arkansas and Eric certainly has a different perspective as a former NBA head coach and assistant coach for a number of years in a league ranks. Eric how are you today of doing great Great Chris? Thanks so much for having me on so just before I get into this topic I mean how. How is this impacted you as a coach of a major college program? What are you able to do? What do you not able to do? What are you being told by administrators about? What's the next step out here? I mean obviously the only thing you can really do right now is number one worry about you. Know the health of your your current players. And we're all recruiting you know via facetime and doing virtual tour so it's a whole new landscape for all of us not just collegiately but but certainly the NBA NFL and h everybody's going through a unique timeframe and we're all kind of learning from each other where I'm reading about what. Nfl coaches are doing and so on and so forth. But it's really just about You know trying to stay in contact with you guys both individual and then collectively as a team Later on today were actually having to Zoom Team Group. Conversation really won't be about basketball. It'll it'll just be some team bonding stuff that we can do through the Internet video. You posted you running a practice by yourself. I believe that was right. That's right Chris. I did a practice by myself. A game by myself. A press conference by myself and then what was the last one while I was a fan Alone arena as if he was watching one of our teams play in. I know all the criticisms about call a timeout plays on defense. You know so I kinda had a little bit of fun against myself. I like that I like that. So this this rule chain not having to rule changes program that the NBA is is beginning which has already claimed jalen green one of the top if not the top NBA prospect for the two thousand twenty one draft. I get your reaction to the NBA watching this program. That will at least theoretically I guess not ready to get has claimed some of the top prospects that otherwise would have been going to college basketball. Yeah it just kind of in general I mean look I went to the University of San Diego Played Division One basketball. Those are the four best years of my life. I coached in the G. League with the Reno bighorns the L. L. A. Defenders and. Those are my two worst years of my life. So and I say that because the D. League or G Lee is is. It's a great coaching experience. It's great for players but everybody's trying to get out And again this new team or new. Whatever they're putting together. I can't comment on that and really nobody can. Because it's it's hasn't really happened yet so look I loved my time in the G. League Having said that I think that you know for a player like what best prepares a player to have longevity in the NBA and there's probably arguments on both sides. But I do think some things that have not been brought up when you play in G. League you might play in front of two thousand people or less. I've been a part of games in the G. League where there was. You could count under two hundred people so you could theoretically say for instance if you play Games. Bud Walton arena. You played game in the SEC. At least in our home arena. You'RE GONNA play in front of Ni- eighteen thousand people. I think if you play in front of one thousand nine thousand people as opposed to two hundred people that pressure is going to prepare you better for the NBA. I think if you have to go into a media room After playing an SEC conference game and your media is ten to twenty five people. We have up to twenty five media members after a game at Arkansas as opposed to the G. League where there might not be anybody covering the game. I mean. Come on in the locker room. There's no media coverage you get on the bus and you go to your hotel and get ready to take a six. Am flight the next day. So I certainly think media-wise preparing yourself to deal with the larger contingency of media College basketball can help you Certainly there's some things that are advantages with the G. League. I like the fact that they play. Forty eight minute game which is what the NBA players is opposed to our forty minute game. There's four quarters in the G. League and then colleges to have so. I think what college basketball has to do. Is I think we've got to all come together. And we've got to have rules in order game that are very similar to what the NBA has. I think you know College Fiba in the NBA. The NBA's not going to change. We know that but certainly we need to make some adjustments. I think that Especially with with what's going on right now. We're going to have to make adjustments so that the college game becomes even more intriguing for a prospect to eventually wants to go to the NBA. But I do think Chris what what has gotten lost in. All of this is only time will tell the non success stories. 'cause there's GonNa be some failure stories that happen and once that starts going on then there could be a changing of of the mentality of of this whole situation. Do you have any concerns that this could fundamentally change college basketball that you're right there. We don't know a lot at this point. This is a new program and we'll see how it all plays out in the coming years but I mean. Could this fundamentally Change College basketball if you have? Let's say one select team leads to two and suddenly you have three or four teams that are comprised of the top overall talent. I mean do view that as a threat to the college game. Why can tell you for sure? Kristie is not going to be three or four development teams like this because financially. I said plenty of meetings when the G. League was just kinda starting to grow and there was financial concerns that obviously the league is way way way watered down from the time that I was in the leave when there was only I don't know twelve fourteen teams to now you know in the twenties so the talent level is way different. People don't understand that you know there's way more two-way contracts or used to not beat two way contracts and so to me again. I think just over time but really you know what what this is kind of me. Orange so to speak is is what Europe's done for many years You know with their soccer club teams and having development teams and having less games but working on fundamentals and things like that so But I you know I. I don't think there's going to be enough players. Were it becomes any type of threat to college basketball but I do think again from a rules standpoint we need to we need try to formalize things where they're a little bit more Mirroring what what the NBA does as far as quarters and possibly even linked the game to be honest with you. Do you think there's any momentum from that you know to to make the changes that you're talking about with some of the other college coaches that are out there sort of the people in power. Not as much as I think there should be or whatever reason daytime. I've been part of the NCAA or conference rules stuff. It's it's you know. Changes is very little and again I just you know college. Women's basketball went to four quarters. Having been apart Fiba because I've coached in Fiba coach and the G. League when we did experimental stuff with the game obviously the NBA. I can tell you like there are certain rules that I think are great advancing the ball makes the NBA game extremely entertaining Rather than have to take the ball the length of the floor in late game situations it. There's a lot more strategic things that go into the game with with the way the NBA. Rules are actually under two minutes and such for whatever reason we don't want to adapt and for whatever reason there's voices that are given opinions that haven't coached with the other rule so I don't know how they truly can say what's better and what's not unless you go with the select few who had done both. I think the the fiba rule of of knocking the ball off the rim is one of the great roles which I don't know why it hasn't been adapted all throughout basketball because it it adds to the entertainment value takes away some of the referees having to make a judgment call so but I think as player starts at think about pro ball at an earlier age that we have to come up with things in our game that make it a little bit more intriguing and we have to adapt just like everything changes over time. You rules are going to have to change to some degree as well. You Know College basketball and you know this as a guy that coach in the NBA League all throughout the professional ranks college basketball is really beholden to the NBA right like the NBA. These are not college rules that that get tossed around this is the NBA making unilateral decisions. Whether it's this G. League team or changing the age minimum is there. I mean you mentioned some things that college basketball can do. That would be helpful. Is there any way for college basketball to become more independent from the NBA and not be so beholden to the changes that the League makes? I don't know that's a great question. Chris I I haven't really given that much thought but but you know I do think if players are starting to go oversee eason and not going to college in. It's just a small small number. Now there's a couple of guys go to the G. League team in however that plays out whatever their schedule looks like whatever. The coaching staff looks like. I do think there's some things within our control like a shorter shot clock would allow more possessions which you theoretically could say would help develop a player with more possessions. Both offensively and defensively. So I think you can only control what you can control and I do think that the NBA in college basketball partner up a little bit more than maybe what. The general public assumes dead Wetzel over at Yahoo. Sports wrote interesting piece this week. Where one of the things he suggested was for the NC double a basketball to adopt a style similar to or at least the rule similar to what college hockey has where to paraphrase. If you get drafted you are still allowed to play college sports. You can stay with your school. Stay with your program and not be have to make that choice right away. What do you think of that idea? Well so we've we've been a part of the last three years a few years ago Nevada. We had three guys test the waters they all three came back but with the dates and the way the recruiting calendar play out. It's it's really hard Chris to try to build your team because number one. You want to support your player Right now here at Arkansas. We have two guys that are testing the waters. One we feel is not coming back. The other one we feel is gathering as much information and and taken his time and and trying to make the right decision but as we try to build our team. It's it's it's difficult Because obviously if you have a player testing the NBA waters. He's probably your most talented player in and to have three guys off a mid major team like Nevada. That's really really hard because you want to give the player the best advice that he possibly..

B. I. R. C. I. T. tournaments but if they can get a few more victories their record of course under five hundred but there's probably about three games at St John's probably could have won though especially the one against Seton hall the garden they had that lead for probably thirty five minutes in that game and the blues and by three St Louis coming off a nice win at Rhode Island there at George Mason minus two and a half if I get the Saint Louis team that played like they did the other night I mean it jumped on Rhode Island and really wire to wire George Mason is not that good another senior day or whatever you know eight heck it was senior day and I was city tonight they got blown out so just depends you know match up wise apparently Purdue looks like a bad match up for I will get to that in a second St Louis like the way this teams playing for two and a nice job there and the Billikens minus two and a half one thirty two and a half on the road Massachusetts at lasalle lasalle whose critics brewers home in Philly minus two and a half you message played solid ball of late total one thirty seven and a half climbs in playing pretty decent ball at Virginia Tech by tech ones one and a half one twenty eight Clemson close has to continue winning and then probably won a couple games inside the ACC tournament to get in Minnesota at Indiana Minnesota the only way they're getting in is they've got to win the conference tournament which I don't think will happen Indiana their records okay overall but they lost a bunch of games inside the big ten's so they can't take any chances they could ill afford a loss here and we'll see if Archie Miller's a guy's ready Indiana my Serena have total one thirty four and a half St Joseph same body same bodies at home minus twelve one forty four the total Fordham at George Washington colonials at home George Washington minus seven one twenty three Texas a and M. at Auburn Bruce pearl in the Gaza try re bound down there at home total one thirty two and a half buzz Williams bringing in the Aggies plus twelve and a half again A. Kentucky play a zone as long as he did tonight ever I think the answer's no but Calipari was the coach known as going on it was can you paint so that's maybe debate number two I mean why not it's post game show we can do it in Kentucky one seventy three sixty six the spark tonight came from Keyon Brooks Johnny do thank did not John did using the first half comes off the bench he provides this book I did not see that coming did anybody see that coming I mean we knew Arkansas along time ago with my in mainly three guards sometimes four guards she knew maxi Hagen the quickly had to play well did anybody think about Johnny choosing was going to have to be a guide was gonna come off the bench provide a spark first half Johnny choosing provides a huge spark off the bench his best game of the year hits a big three provides good minutes.

"The Voice of the Missouri. Tigers Mike Kelly lots to get into with Mike. The bragging rights game the State of Congo Martin's program and we'll get into the hiring of ally drinker which the head football coach at Mizzou Missouri comes to say Lawson lawsuit makes it two straight against the fighting. Is they take home. The bragging rights Tofu once again. Sixty three fifty six the final huge win for Missouri and the bragging rights game. Mike had the call. All the joins me on scoops Danny Mac Dot Com Mike Let's start with this. What was your takeaway from the game on Saturday against the align I here in Saint Louis Missouri was tougher team? But I thought the team that was more Determined to get too loose balls. I thought they were the team. That were those more determined to play within. Its identity And I I think they did just enough from an offensive standpoint to win the game and the option that reproduction off the bench from Savior Pinson and also from the Belleville Native Giovane picket who finished with a season high. Seventeen so I thought Missouri was the better team than afternoon insight enterprises. And what was the atmosphere. Like for you it's not the triple overtime. It's not Lou Hinson against Norm Stewart. But it is Mizzou Illinois. What was the atmosphere like from your perspective? Well it was a step in the right direction in terms of if the crowd. I mean Candidly I said a few years ago. On the air during the course of the game Maybe this robbery has run. Its course because the arena was was not selling out It wasn't even close to capacity Last year's crowd was better. This year's crowd was better than last year. So I think it's trending trending in the right direction to get him back to this special moments that we all remember. When it was the toughest ticket in Saint Louis I mean? It was tougher the cardinal playoff tickets. It was tougher than rams tickets at the time You Know Twenty to twenty three thousand fans split right down the middle A very passionate evening and we're I think we're moving back in that direction. And why is that happening because you get to good coaches and Brad underwood cons of Martin. That are trying to rebuild his programs grams and fan bases are now responding but for me I love the game. I mean I I love doing a game in St Louis Year You know that's my thirtieth game that I've been a part of the bragging rights right series thirty to thirty nine so It's it's it's fun to play a role. Did you ever have a favorite one. When you look back at this great rivalry and and I I? I think it's just the the time of the year. I don't like the game starting at noon. I like it better at six or seven o'clock and people are festive and whatnot but to the point of the best one that you've been a part of over thirty years which is the one that stands out well triple overtime Without question because the circumstances and because of what led to for that team in ninety three ninety four you must remember Missouri earlier that season barely beat central Missouri at home and then they go to Arkansas and they could be fifty two tonight that Bud Walton arena opens up And then to come home and in that game against against Illinois Deanne Thomas had land with just over a minute go to put Illinois up by nine points and you thought the game was over. lemond frazier. Had something to say about that he's And then the next thing you know we're in overtime the second overtime co Q.. On Garrison this is a a ninety percent. Foul shooter. Misses a pair of free throws and Missouri goes on to win it in three overtimes. overtimes with really you know. Think Frazier and a bunch of freshmen. On the court at that point time guys like Derek Grimm and Jason Sutherland. So that's the one that will always stand thinned out because it led to an undefeated You know big eight championship season for Missouri in one thousand nine hundred eighty four. The last conference championship Missouri has one one in the sport of basketball. And that's really interesting when you think about that. Dan Missouri's last apperance championship. And I don't Count Tournament titles those are Nice to win but those aren't winning two league all right which is the most important thing the last one took place in nineteen ninety four and you know The so the that's the one I'm always going to remember for sure. Illinois Annoy came in fourth in the nation points per game eighty four point one Mizzou holds Illinois to fifty six. That's kind of what Konso Martin is trying to build. Defense Offense I. That's what he was based on when he played now coaching. Is that the identity of this team. We're going to kind of make it rough on teams to score. Well it has to be It has to be and the other thing that they came in with the mindset is that Illinois was plus fourteen on the class and One of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country country and concert oldest team on Friday before the game okay. Let's see if that's the case. Let's test them to see if that's the case. And you know Missouri Rebounds Illinois Roy Thirty Six thirty two and the tanker's had thirteen offense rebound so and they also for seventeen turnovers so that defense has got to be in. Kansas never going to apologize. College is ripping defense. I coach And Dan as I look at this team I just think about you know. They won the game. They went one for four in in the second half from the three point line so the only shot it from three or four times. So they want they were more determined to Winning found an opportunity to drive the ball. They were more. We're determined to drive the basketball and ultimately You know driving the ball attacking the defense You know obviously being good on Niclas That's how they were able to to win the game and they'd been scoring as well scoring Illinois's bench thirty to ten so they have to be defensive team but then the other thing thing I think about is that you know as a team shooting about twenty seven percent from the three point line Yesterday to go five of fourteen in the game which is about thirty thirty five percent but what happens to this team from an offensive standpoint if Mitchell Smith starts shooting three more more consistently guy like Kobe Bryant does the same thing Mark Smith and if they can ever get torn watching going You Know Watson you know has shown the ability to hit the three previously careers just going through one of those strip droughts right now and I think it's the impact of line Be moved back a little bit too to tell you the truth so you know if they can get going from an offensive standpoint you start shooting the three. I don't think that'll become their identity. But it certainly is Much more firepower from an office standpoint Mike Kelly longtime voice of the Missouri retires our guest and you know you think eighteen days ago Charleston southern goes to Missouri and wins that game. They were something like twenty six. Twenty eight point joint underdog and they beat Mizzou them. Zoo goes to the bragging rights game and they win this game. They've gone on the road against a good temple team. They won that game so the question in is Mike. You know what what. What is this team? Who are they what? What do you think they are i? At the end of December. I give credit to Konso in his coaching in staff. Going back to the temple game for changing the lineup and putting Mitchell Smith into the starting lineup at six ten he gives Missouri Somebody on the perimeter that that you know obviously can defend can help Jeremiah's helmet on the glass. He's probably Missouri's Claire in terms of being able to enter the ball into the post which again that's that's got to become more of a consistent theme as well getting more offensive production From Jeremiah. But he did a lot of things yesterday for Saturday from defensive standpoint. Yeah Point But you know this is a team that that I think is starting to find itself. And and they're they're understanding the temple game going to Philadelphia on a Saturday night and holding temple to fifty four points when they had lost just one time. That season I think if this team a lot of confidence and then you know blowing out southern Illinois handling really. Don't wait now you've got to Time off they don't play again tell a week from tonight against against Each Chicago state so I think they're starting to buy in and they're starting to realize realized that if they can hang their hat on defense That it's going to be difficult for teams to beat them but you know the Charleston southern thing it just proves if you're not ready to play you in this day and age if you're not ready to play you're not good enough to beat any. Isn't that the truth. I'D BE REMISS IF I didn't ask you a little bit about what's happening with the football program. What are your initial impressions? Things have allied quits. I've been with him. Probably a total of maybe fifteen minutes since he retired The first ten of that was in his office The morning that he was announced as Missouri's head coach I love his energy. I love his passion. I he Obviously understand how to market a program and the world at the head. Coach has to play in terms of not only building your program but building fan interest in your program. That's to me something that that I've really picked up on Just watching You know his body of work Over the last last few weeks I like the staff he's putting together Like the fact that he kept some continuity on the defensive side of the football with Ryan Walters Walters and Also David Gibbs which I think David Gibbs doesn't get enough credit but I thought David Gibbs really helped Missouri become a much much better defense defense a year ago from from what they were. The previous season You Know Brick Haley staying on that that that helps as well and then what he's done. In terms of his hires I think very very strategic in terms of getting you know relentless recruiters Getting some guys with some some some championship experience And you know let's see what happens with with the next couple of hires made a really important one. Sometimes fans tend to overlook is the strength and conditioning coach. You know he hopes to make that announcement in the near future And then of course he's got a couple of often suspicion so phil but You know when you talk to him and again it's been. It's been a brief amount of time that I've had a chance to talk to him like you get in. I mean very simply he gets it at a very young age and you can also tell when you talk to doing that you know. He's understanding all offensive football and listening to him during the press conference talk about the innovations and the changes that he's made during his career.

Erin niece, but picked up his four semi Shittu picked up his fourth. But the Commodores got those guys back into the game. And we're really able to play all the way through until save and found out in the final minute of play Arkansas led by ten midway through the second-half. Within the cobbler's put on a rally led by the senior show toy a couple of three pointers. Joe had four three pointers on the evening as Vanderbilt came back. Took the lead briefly. It went back and forth. The final couple of minutes. Arkansas gets a big three pointer by the freshman for them Embry Simpson to take the lead and that Sabin Lee prior to that was called for a foul or at right after that three was called for a foul and offensive foul that was his fifth that sent Mason Jones a later on to the line is he was fouled. He made two free throws to make it a three point game. Cobblers got a pretty decent. Look with about three seconds left. Matt Ryan three from the right wing bounced off the right side of the iron. No good and the Razorbacks escape with a three point victory by a score.
