"I mean one of the place that stood out to me was the bud. Duprey speed rush. Right past orlando brown and Mahomes lost the ball in that play but the chiefs recovered it and like those are the kind of examples that make it hard for the chiefs offense to gain a lot of traction interception last week to Was it last week right with vet awful skyhook pop up throwaway right the hs intercept and. Yeah off the fumbled snap. Yeah yeah and that was last week to and what's interesting with the homes is I think there are some there. There's a valid point that i've heard on him in in that there. There's so many gifts right. There's so many physical gifts that he has that. I think that there are situations where he uses them when. Perhaps they're not necessary to your point. Jenny where you're sort of floating and scrambling and maybe the play was just to get rid of it. After you know your your he'll hit the turf on that third step and you know maybe there does need to be some andy reid west coast drilling at some point and but it's hard right if you're rewarded by that for so long. How do you how do you kinda hone that in and and develop as a passer in all great ones do but at what point is patrick mahomes. Good acid you that yeah. I think that's an interesting point. I remember talking to his throwing coaches and they mentioned that the idea that he can throw the ball out of the stadium literally can actually sometimes be a negative because then you just rely on the physical gifts and drift a little bit from the technique so that was a focus of theirs. I mean this was leading up to the first super bowl and you know. I think when he got injured that year it actually kind of forced him to hone those mechanic's a little bit more because he had the knee injury and so he couldn't use that same. Physical ability could generate the same power. That was actually good for his technique. So maybe there's a maybe a technical fix. Maybe he needs some time to work on. I don't know. I can't analyze this throwing motion on the fly just got to take a baseball bat. And smashes nian and then see what happens. Know what we're suggesting. Gary you know to me. It's it's defensively. That's just going to be an issue. i mean they. I don't know what answers you find it this morning. The season because you brought in so many new guys who are talented with the thinking that okay. We'll we'll get him coached up. Get going and it obviously hasn't happened but offensively the the biggest issue does continue to be the turnovers on this. This game look. This game was ugly. I think you throw it away in the same way you throw away like the packers opener against the saints. The turnovers have been the issue. And i just again i. I will go down the ship. I will continue to say the chiefs are i. I believe still going to be right there in the end competing for the c. title..

"We'll just make a mistake. A quarterback Fires high and wide on a throw or misreads. A defense or or maybe. Just a fumbled snap that sort of leads to chaos. You know pass rushes can can do a lot to to cause takeaways in in the nfl right now but when you're talking about what it's just so unique because he's one of the few guys who he literally takes the ball away he is. He is elevated this thing to to almost the science and art the ability to force these fumbles. Yeah and a really great point you made. When we did the story last year that stuck in my mind is just how impactful a strip sack is or any kind of forced fumble. Because you're getting the ball where it happens versus an interception. Oftentimes the quarterback is throwing it down field so there is a little bit of a flip in field position but when you force the ball out you get it right there and it can really set up score or obviously in the case of the steelers game it was the game clinching play but a lot of times. It happens in the in the flow of a game. Defenses trying to get an edge. You put your offense in a really great position to score for what this skill of his really started taking off as did his career in his second season. And that's when mike tomlin had him switched sides so he and bud duprey who is in his teammates. Swaps watt headlined. Up mostly on the right side are almost exclusively on the right side as a rookie. But they thought he would be a mismatch against the league's right tackles and the part of that was that he could see. The quarterbacks is better because of the way that quarterbacks drop when they're right handers and he could bat passes down and he could see the football. When was rushing which allowed him to go after the ball a little bit more. He also which i think is interesting in this. Larger conversation about turnovers used to be an offensive player..

"Regard this season they had to espn stats and information. This is interesting. The most second-half drops by any team since they've been charting the statistic of since two thousand six Najji harris alone dropped four passes in the second half but that was on that on that fourth down everybody was up on the line and he correctly guessed that they would drop back right and when you drop back into a picket fence zone. Which is the bengals did they. You know they dropped the four guys back with jim. Swartz used to do a lot on third downs and they guard the first down marker the play call a lot of times the right play called there is some sort of like screen or something to busted up and the the i think the decision was actually sound. Because what you wanted to do was get nashi harris with a head of steam running at that picket fence coverage and you wanted your offensive linemen to get off their blocks to get ahead of him. That was the plan it was. It was executed horribly like it went very wrong but i agree with his point which was what like what else he said afterwards. He wished that in hindsight he would have taken a shot but he said it in a way that like. I don't think i would have been able to do anything right. So what is the higher percentage. Play there to try to smash nausea hairs into A a pick zone. Or if you're ben rothlisberger to like cut waffle in the backfield slowly for a little while and then just missile one ten yards downfield. I don't know the answer to that. But typically against picket zone coverage a screen is like the call. That's what you would want to do. And so that was like a very poorly thought out very poorly executed like pseudo screen in that in that regard. I'm side with gary On this one. But i will remain calm and give it a chance. Qatar summation of the column. And so don't agree with that. You know you disagree with holy smokes. I'm over two. So 'cause i basically summarized my chiefs column earlier. Jenny called an interesting. Which is you know. One of the most dangerous insulted her vocabulary. Very kind wonderful person and then straight out disagree with this one. Like i don't know i better check my employment status but i will say this. The result today has sparked a lot of takes about. Should we have been talking about ben all along the steelers decision to stick with him. And i think that's fair on some level but it will also say a loss offensive lineman in game which certainly didn't help them on plays like the one we're just describing and also they were down both. Tj watt and alex. Hightower this is after losing bud duprey in the off season and certainly their defense has looked a lot different with what out so i think the last game and a half since what has been sidelined. They haven't had one of their biggest chances to win. Which is one of the best defensive players in the nfl. so i think it's too early to be making definitive conclusions on the steelers. Either way.

"Because he's being chased he doesn't wanna take a big hit. Cameras sutton happened to be two steps. Closer to that quarterback devin bush or bud duprey were so who gets the sack cameron site and didn't even touch the guy right. Those were his. That was his tackle for a loss and a sack in twenty twenty twenty twenty one in game one. He has to legitimate tackles for loss already so just much better. He he is. He has worked on being outside corner. He's prepped for it and he showed that that showed up. Yeah he gave up some receptions very little yards after the catch and just played really. Well he was beaten for a touchdown the man he was encouraged on that down a little bit slow. Great throw though. I mean that's one of those plays where you just throw beat good coverage he was in really good coverage the throw is just better. I honestly i'm going to say. I think cameras just played the best game of his. Nfl career to this point. I mean that. Because i think he's the hardest role he's had to play and he was really good so for me. Cameras sutton great rate game. We've onto james pierre. James pierre was not coming on nickel plays like they thought they might you do instead. James pierre came in on dime snaps. So cameron sutton in the nickel was outside. The kept cameron sutton outside. They put traynor would in the slot for nickel in dime. James pierre came in for one of the linebackers he played outside and sutton slid right back in to the diamondback role that he has played so well for the last three four years. Pierre was solid again not great. You don't need greatness from your number. Four cornerback right outside of one incredible. Pass up he had in the fourth quarter they kind of bit of a blown coverage and you see james pure comment and just you know tomahawk chop the ball right out of the receivers hands and it was a cool play. But it's it's even better when you look at what happened after that. And this is one of those butterfly effect place of course. The butterfly effect is the theory that like a butterfly flaps his wings over here and a soon nami happens because a chain of events occurs right james pierre on second and six knocks the ball out of a receivers hands comes in bloom. Covers receivers wide open jane spear hustles over bam knocks the ball out pass broken up its third and six on third and six cam hayward sacks josh now fourth and twelve on that fourth and twelve play miles killebrew bursts through blocks the pie and the steelers score a touchdown if james pierre doesn't recognize that there's a bride receiver wide open on that play about to catch the ball. It doesn't make it there and knock that ball down the bills convert on second six instead of third and six and a hayward sack you have a first and ten very different drive and quite possibly a different result in the final score. So that's one of those moments. I'd like to pick out where people are like. Oh you know this play was super important. Sometimes there's plays that someone makes like that it's just a hustle play just a just a catch up play. That has a bigger impact than just. Hey you know that's the now. Go to thirty six one..

"Wasn't going to play down to a third string left tackle against the strength and they see which is the pass rush so other colds. Moving the ball that well either this ticking up to forty nine and a half a i was a good underplay. Let's talk the steelers and the bills. Now this is one of those games. That is very intriguing. This is a steelers team that we know started off started off last season on fire pro. Start getting put out by the sports books. Will the steelers go undefeated. Is this going to be the team that we watch march all the way to the super bowl and then we found out. Oh boy that is not what happened at all. We remember they start eleven and they lose five of their last six games and not only did they lose five of the last six games when it was all said and done we realize that this is actually the second easiest schedule in the entire. Nfl that they played this past year and they still all five of the last six games. Matt canada takes over as offensive coordinator. They're they're trying to get some things figured out and situated now marquees. Pouncey did retire so he is not going to be one of the mainstays on the offensive. Line is no longer going to be there. If you look at these one score game Metrics here now doesn't really always tell the story here because sometimes teams can just backdoor into a one score game and all that but if you care about that type of stuff. They were seven. Two in one score games as well. So maybe there's a little bit of regression on that into people were jumping up and down about their them deciding to use their first round pick. Nashi harris running back. Whenever we've seen that this is a running back position that has been devalued a ton over the last five or six years in the nfl. That said the steelers worth thirtieth running the ball last year so they thought that this was going to be something that could help them. Do which again something that this team has traditionally wanted to do which is run the ball effectively. They lost by hilton steven nelson quarterbacks they lost alejandro villanueva offencive line as well and of course they lost budde. Do pre on the defensive side of the ball is while the get back. Devon bush from injury but bud duprey again one of the better pass rushing guys out there in the nfl. So brad. I know you have a play on this one and it is not on the steelers. It is on the team that is one of the favorites to win the super bowl in the bills. Yes and so a you again. You talked about the. I think the defense was overrated last year because they faced just an absolute joke of a schedule. It was it was backup quarterback galore and then when they did face proper teams and especially ones who could protect weren't not good because a unique of the secondary now and again. This is another team that's traded away corners. And there's there's not really much there on paper. Cameron sutton the right corner joe. Hayden is probably the you know the mainstay. And they're gonna be relying on him sees on the wrong side of thirty so as you say..

"The titans 'cause like it seems like no one's going to be able to play for the colts. And i don't think anybody else is going to win a lot of games so i don't know man can we. I wish we could. I wish we could not. Can i pass on a on a just talking about this division. I mean look. I took the titans. But it's a good point that venue into the spin. Buddy yeah. I got the colts and certainly right. The colts injury situation is something to be aware of and is concerning. I've talked about how. I think that coaching staff can can get the job done as they deal with some of those absences especially those that are able to see far out on. My main concern is titans regression which may sound exactly like everything. Titans fan heard last summer where the concern was titans regression and obviously they took a step forward thought. Derrick henry couldn't sustain his quality of play at that volume. He took on more volumes. Even more effective with matt ryan tannehill was not the third best quarterback in the league the epa replied translated. He still is. You know what i mean. They were able to do everything again. They're able to repeat it which is sick. And then arthur smith left and nobody tannehill and henry weren't doing what they're doing now until arthur smith took over that offense and arthur smith is left and so there's a doubt creeping in in terms of if that offense can be the same if they can have the same efficiency with those intermediate deeply action shots. You lose a player like johnny smith. Vilely corey davis both of whom were integral to the running game. They're probably gonna play with with Less big surfaces less twenty two personnel. Three tight ends. And that's where. Henry's really successful. So that running game probably gonna change character a little bit. They bring julio jones which is tremendous but the depth that pass catcher behind that is really concerning Last year they started out five zero and then went six and six down the stretch. Seventy two in close games both of which are signs at a team is facing record regression even if they stay generally as efficient and then they tried to do a lot to improve on defense and i know that sounds really gung ho about their moves to me. switching outdoor jackson malcolm butler for jewish jenkins and caleb. Farley isn't a huge improvement. If an improvement at all. And i like bud duprey. I do not like eighteen million dollars. He's feature rusher bud dupree to me. That's a little bit too much dip on his chest so for all these reasons. I just think the times are going to drop a game or two. So i think that the titans are going to drop a game or two. But i think. That doesn't but i don't know i think everybody else in this division is going to drop a game or ten season. They're going to drop a season or two all season. Have the winning nine games in the times. Winning eight game so this is very much so last year's nfc east order. I want to do this. But i'm going to do it. This entire podcasts. Excising regret for kevin. I body you have no idea. No the i so the titans are gonna win like nine games and they're going to be fine and if they regress and they will in some area no one is going to make them pay for it. No one and the colts in theory have this. But i'm just done counting on once darius leonard gave a press conference today where he said he's she's just trying to wait for more information before it gets vaccinated ryan. Kelly was on the list last week. And you know there are players who have obviously been vaccinated. Who have had this time as well throughout camps and all that stuff and and i shot but at some point you know baker mayfield said this three months ago he said being vaccinated as a competitive advantage and to me. I think you're going to see that more. And more and more and that goes with everybody crossley. There's not a kohl's take just if you have a bunch of unvaccinated guys you know. They miss five days at time. That's important that matters. And i don't think i think we talked to the day but whether or not the colts have the depth sort of go through you know separately the to i- hilton injury like all this stuff. All the hits if they've been taking Quinn nelson's twelve league injury carson wentz. Who's obviously going to be elite. Little bit hobbled. Do they have the depth overcome. It and i think the answer is they have the depth to be okay this year but i don't think they have the depth to win ten games as the hits. Keep coming So that's that's my take on this I d- jaguars plus six fifty. Seems i feel like that. That line should be more enticing than plus fifty my wrong zolak. No reason that faith. And the jags faith in the texans. I have them both winning two games and i think it's like against each other or something. Oh oh my god it's coming through. Nora's coming jumping through the zone. The jags are gonna win two games. Two games. I've lost so much faith in the jags man. It's a little bleak down there. i'll give you that. But we have a generational quarterback and we expect to pretty good. Can we talk about what the jags with their number. One waiver. priority after cuts. Here's this entire johnson. You've waiver priority. Beside one.

"Either way. They're all trying to get to the big game. The whole case dea. The colts are trying something. New importing red haired wild west cost player carson wentz in the past he was all the sun will come out tomorrow but after the eagles started losing he was more like stole. The only girl. I love drowned. Her deep inside of me now. What the wonder if he'll be good or bad any jaguars. Jaguars also have a quarterback that is really making. Nfl fans warm there. Tater tots in the air. Yeah that was that was pretty pro. Air firing say great can trevor lawrence speed the jaguars. Mom maybe it all depends on coach. Urban meyer who kind of looks like he steals knitting needles from hobby lobby seriously. Have you taken a look at that guy. He always just looks like he's saying hi. Can i a guerande americano at the division houston texans and when people think of the texans they normally think of malays and now they think of panic. The texans are the nfl's finger which really isn't hard all but it's kind of fitting isn't it. The rest of the division can at least move around in. The texans are a finger there. We go our aides so there you have it. That was probably the weirdest one yet. He was definitely weirdest one. And it was get the line that urban meyer looks like a guy just saying they're going hiking 'grande camera that was That it's going to be the most under appreciated live maps. I really like that. So here's the thing. I had envisioned you getting that clue. And then because he didn't order a coffee numbered becau- yeah and so because no i skipped one So there's a difference But so. I figured since you don't order coffee you would order it. And kinda goofy voice and then i could basically imitate your voice in a way to make urban. Meyer sound big and goofy while. He's ordering a cup of coffee. But like jenny just ordered a regular cup of coffee. Like a nice person would order coffee and like it wouldn't be fair then to then like make that into something that so But i i like it like you know. I think that i. I think it turned out. Really well Warming jaguars fans warming their tater tots in the air. Fryer was probably one of the favorite things that's been said in my life over. The last year was excellent. Excellent so glad. We're making up to them. It is it is time for our last segment here. We are going to unveil our coaches poll order of finish right now. We unanimously selected. The texans the finger of the Division finished last three last place votes for them. The jaguars with seven points finish third. I picked his jaguars second. I'm picking the jaguars to make the playoffs. This year That is my mildly warm. Take second being wrong. Second is the titans at nine points. Jenny pick the vision. Connor picked him second. Pick them third I just worry about them defensively. I don't think they have enough on that back in. I don't think bud duprey makes enough of a difference in that first year back from the acl. i think that I think jenny would say wrong. And i have a hard time disagreeing with jenny on anything. So the colts with eleven points to first place votes from me and from connor. all right. well it's the let's you the super bowl or not for each of these teams Or playoffs or not depending on who. We get to Colts super bowl contender or not yet. Sure yeah yeah. Yeah yeah titans. Yeah yeah yeah the. Afc south is like is like Like if we had a kid who said that he was like He was majoring in like something super obscure that like we all secretly worried about. And we're just like yeah. Yeah yeah you could do that. It's fine like journalism for example. Say it's all right on a newspaper. Mom yeah don't do that the

"Today there's no reason to delay all right so we're onto the traditional division preview stuff that we've been doing throughout the summer here We're gonna look at biggest aussies editions among veterans and rookies Most valuable non quarterback and most interesting head or assistant coach in the afc south. I'm sorry biggest. Off season edition veteran and jenny. Why don't you start us off here. Well i picked bud duprey. And i'm interested to see how this acquisition goes. I think it could go a couple ways. You could say that the titans overpaid for what has been a glaring need and their defense to get an edge rusher or it could be the piece that they really needed. Duprey obviously was a fantastic compliment. He in tj watt were tremendous book ends and the steelers defense. He's coming off the torn acl from last season and began camp on the pup list. So we'll have to see how he eases back in. His availability is like earlier in early in the season but the titans gave him a big contract perhaps surprising how big it was given that he was coming off a serious injury but i identified it as the biggest offseason addition. Not because. i'm sure how it's going to go. But because it was a significant move and a lot depends on it for the titans. No it's it is really interesting that they signed him coming off the acl because it seems like the titans need immediate help there. And i mean yes. He is going to Probably be on the field week one but will he be full shrank and just even without the injury. He's just a really interesting guy to take a chance on here because yes very productive across from tj watt. he really I mean his his development has been like almost exponential since since his rookie year when he was kind of. Okay and he's do you believe there's more room to go before he hits the ceiling. Obviously the titans do giving him the kind of contract that they gave him but That'll be that'll be interesting because they are in pretty dire need of a pass. Rush there In tennessee with the way they had to completely redo their secondary. Yeah i mean there was a lot of institutional sort of messages on that On that titans defense to the point where it wouldn't allow them to run anything that they wanted to do. Schematically you know when you have coordinators like they do. Who want to run this amoebic aggressive. Sort of pressure defense. You're going to need the right people in there and i think as jenny's report on the steelers defense in the past so much of dupree's instrumental to other people being able to do their roles and so i think that that's a that's a big addition there. I think that fixes a couple problems you know. And i will say as i start to laugh. Preemptively when. I was filling out my answers for these. I was like oh my answers so generic and expected and straightforward. But i guess that's just the way it goes but connor was kind enough to definitely Provide the counterbalance here on these connor. Why don't you go ahead and give us your your big off season addition among veterans. Here i would say cameron johnston the punter. He's saying the of the houston texans. Because who who else could it be used as much as he is this year. This offense is gonna be horrible..

There's only one steeler so far that there's been a source report that they are gone, and that is another in twos are skipper a brook prior espn cited a source said that skipper was told he will. Be Cut Alive Times the steelers will tell the players early to give them an opportunity to get a head start on finding another home but skipper has not mentioned at all this entire training camp. You've never heard his name Tomlin never refers to him. Even Bud DuPrey TJ Watt Keith, Butler, whenever they were interviewed. No one ever talked about skipper. They talked about highsmith. They talked about each other in terms of watt talked about debris. No one ever brought up skipper. Keep that in vacuum line
