"Tune in the news the sponsored by absolute tronic seer ski resent it takes just a good morning everyone at seventy three degrees this morning some thunderstorms rolling through the Chicago area nothing on the severe level though just some a heavy rain in places maybe some small hail and also some gusty winds up to maybe forty miles per hour storms are moving to the east southeast out about thirty miles per hour the other part of the weather story is more is going to be too dangerous heat about to hit the Chicago area an excessive heat warning will go into effect at noon today and last until Saturday night for Chicago and the surrounding suburbs we're expecting to temps to climb back into the nineties over the next several days with heat index values of reaching nearly one hundred fourteen degrees and even nightfall won't be enough to make people feel like they're getting a break from the heat WGN meteorologist to McGill says that could be especially dangerous I don't think we're gonna get cooler than about seventy nine or eighty and they figured out back in the ninety five he wave that was what was so crucial is that your body doesn't get a chance to cool down overnight when it stays that warm you need that time to a little bit of a break and tonight it's not going to be a great night for sleeping analysts have air conditioning Asher around eighty for the low tonight people are being asked to avoid going outside to to world light weight and loose fitting clothing and to drink plenty of water five people are hospitalized after a boat crash on Lake Michigan overnight dory say a power boat hit a brick wall near queen's landing near Buckingham fountain two passengers were thrown into a wall to the victims are in series critical condition Vester Gators believe speed may have been a factor in that accident Mister Berman gas station clerk has been suspended after he was recorded making anti immigrant comments to Mexican customers WGN's Pam Jones report Carolina blue trying posted the video on her Facebook Tuesday she was born in the United States two of the other women in the video.

"Is going to be turning on Buckingham fountain at eight o'clock in the morning the plaudits continue key to the city they'll probably give them Chevy Silverado to drive around all is in town so I do understand though that the director of animal care and control and alligator Bob with the press conference that got all of the attention but that they did not so there's that speaking of things getting attention did you know US soccer is headquartered in Chicago so it makes it a focal point for effort that is maybe not foremost on our minds today US women won the World Cup there was the protests throughout did certainly afterwards literally after the women won the World Cup championship and have their ticker tape parade in New York there were two chance USA and equal pay so they took that protests then to Chicago this morning at eleven o'clock or some folks over there they had bull horns they were shouting at the building where the US soccer is headquartered it's not a big building it's a lovely little old residential neighborhood in there some offices and some of those four flats and we've been trying to get US soccer to come on in dog gone it they just seem to be awful and you know this is listen if you're if you ever get a call for me elev rashly or J. or my mom whoever's reaching out on my behalf I think this is very fair platform literally all I wanted to know was how did this pan equity start what are you thinking about it or doing about it now what are the resolution I'm not a screamer I'm not a Yeller we reached out to the marina to jog who is with one of the organizations that was there today move on she is the director of strategic growth that MoveOn dot org and while these players weren't there people representing them were hi Maria it's John Williams in your on WGN in Chicago how are you I'm doing well thank you so much for having me we've all heard of move on but just tell me what's the elevator speech on move on what do you guys do yes move on is an organization of million folks around the country work to impact progressive change through advocacy and campaigning it could be anything then right but this week it happens to be women soccer yeah this is an issue that our members have really taken to heart more than a hundred thousand folks have signed a petition I standing in solidarity with the player than really following their lead and so we were at the federation headquarters today delivering nothing changed so that's what it was I mean you didn't and by the way I said that this is an issue about women's soccer it's not about women's soccer it's about women's soccer and it's about pay inequities it's really about all men and women and all job categories and by the way maybe some people should get paid more because they're better at their job or they earn more money for the company I mean not everybody should be paid the same amount but if the delineation is based on gender then we need to have that conversation so that's what that that's I think what I'm interested in this I'm not certain what this represents did women sign about contract internationally do the men generate more money than women I'm I'm trying to figure it out still myself yeah I mean I think from that I did as this is something that add you that is an issue that is not just about doctor it's true in every single industry and everything profession where men make are paid more money and I think in this particular case Mister you know this is the this is what the federation and chose to structure the alignment with an agreement with the players and I think the federation really has trip to make care they can do the right thing and they can put paid to players equally I really hope that you know they heard us they heard the folks who were at the event today so it what happened then you do a little bit what did you print the signatures out did you hand them to somebody yeah so we we had a number of different speakers at the event including Grand Island now who is a seventh grader and a huge soccer fan and she's sort of talk about what they should do this our team and obviously not meant to her and how they interact with the is something that she sees that the issue and then we we delivered box that well we deliver the boxes and also a flash drive with the signature to keeping goal eco friendly the federation obviously accepted them we brought them in I shared it with their and I really think at this point yeah all the ball is in the federation court to say and I don't mean to demonized them I I think that can happen I think it's been happening but I'd like to know the answer to my question how is it that the women are paid less do you know why it is different from the men and the women no I don't know in this particular case but I do think that what we see systemically in other industries that I could imagine would be true here is that women are just are often offered contract that have you know that okay them less money and we all want to work jobs and that sort of thing that would you in in the world followed you from job to job and so I think I think that this is one of those situations where the system is set up such that women I chain women last until they do I suppose so I mean this if you think about historically any organization wants to pay its employees as little as possible while maximizing you know their productivity so somebody will work ten hours a day and bus there but and do it for less you know maybe the right thing to do would be reward that give the money but you I think it's probably just in the nature of business to try and maximize the profits for yourself for your shareholders or whatever I'm not championing that is a model and that's probably the reality of the world or at least it has been you know I think that I think that you and I also think that this is a we we know there have been study after study that showed that this is true we know that this is obviously true in the case of the women's soccer team and I think at least in our in our work in our advocate the we want to look forward to building a country in the world where we're able to eliminate that sort of inequity and I think it starts you know it starts with individual employers making those decisions the US federation as one example but there are many other employers that can look at their but you look at their table and really sort of analyze that and understand but they could be doing better seems to me like in the back of my mind I have it that this legislation a foot it nationally or in some state that would say that you cannot ask a prospective employee what they have been learning or at least they don't have to answer that if they don't want to if women have typically been underpaid and they respond honestly then it's sort of a loop that just repeats itself and so it's kinda lemonade that question the employers may be inclined to hire the person based on the fair value of the job and not how much they can get away with because women have historically been underpaid absolutely are our allies at women employed have actually helped push forward legislation here in Illinois that basically does exactly that that makes it illegal for employers to ask about our history is actually on governor Pritchard bass I hope that you will find a lot yeah there are definitely I think legislative pathways which are important and we need to move forward and I think there's also the the ticking of individual employers to backed policies that are equitable so that they can attract ultimately the most diverse and the strong work force well I don't know why soccer keeps shooting itself in the foot it would seem to me like if you are U. S. soccer you would simply say we have a problem here it's an image problem and it's just a factual problem let's pay the women more money let's tear up the contract NBA players who are paid millions are forever asking for their contract to be torn up because they want to get millions more still because there have been a good season there's no harm in asking and a lot of times teams acquiesce they say yeah you're actually doing better than we thought to make you happy to keep you on the club we're gonna go ahead tap contract give you a better deal that happens there's no reason that soccer couldn't do that for the ladies either they could simply say you agreed to a seventy five thousand dollar a year salary and then bony structures that are far below the men but doggone it look what you did we're going to do right by you and we're just going to give you a better deal period end like that they could fix that tomorrow absolutely I think that's totally I think that really what we are but the folks who were at the thank you day I've been playing and you know ultimately blisters this is both the right thing to do morally and also just the right thing to do the standpoint you know these athletes are phenomenal dared Jersey the US women's soccer home Jersey and the top selling Jersey on and like you said all right so I think there is both a a more okay but in the back up on that all time Nike Jersey thing what did you just say so that US when and the home jerseys on sale Patel and make you upset is the number one selling Jersey of all time now pretty no way no way seriously that is that that is the that is the information that I've heard yeah I'm I'm not going to okay if that's true yeah this is a small point and listen I'm on your side I'm going there but I'm I'm with you all but I just that strains credulity because you think about that that means more so than the Chicago Bulls Jersey or the I don't know what it is I don't know if there's a lebron Jersey out and try to think of whose jerseys team or individuals would have been off the charts selling well did Colin Kaepernick have one he's been a cause but you're telling me that the USA womens soccer Jersey is the number one all time selling Nike Jersey I am I am confirming the so he's looking at me like okay I'll Google that part of the Baptist there but the single jerk I think other athlete there but not the majority party that's my understanding but we can fact check that yeah I get the point it's just a fun little piece of trivia now but I'm a totally understand the point okay well I you know I haven't heard from them and maybe someday they'll come on but I still like an explanation as to how this contract was drafted because these women aren't a brand new phenomenon they've been winning for years so maybe they offered him a lowball contract and they signed it but I'd like to know just how it came to be why are the women underpaid and I I'm holding out that there's a rational explanation for besides just the history of the differences in pay for men and women and one of them might be that on the international stage men generate more money that what happens in the United States isn't the only sort of metric that they used to determine the contracts value is so maybe the men actually do deserve more if that's the.

"If people knew my whole story dot dot dot and I wondered how when you look at this how much credit value wait do you give to the nature versus nurture aspect of this is who these people were came out of the womb as to some degree or because of circumstances they grew into this. We have somebody the we'll get to hear that said who referenced there. I think modeling after their father the influence there so to ask because he's talking about if people knew my whole story how where your thoughts on that as far as again just a natural natural reaction or because of you tend to see X._y._Z.. Excuse makers often had X._y._Z. in their background or something like that yeah <hes> I so we didn't specifically test for that that nature versus nurture we haven't done like the actual research had had a chance to explore that fully within within our research so anything that I say right now is pure speculation on my point on my part but evidence based evidence it is based my hunch and what I've what I've watched is. I think it's a little bit of a combination of both I think that there are you know there's a lot that happens within within the way that we're raised or with with the experiences that we have as childhood or in school or with peers like different things can definitely played impact it and the fact that you know some people do like maybe had a great mentor in their life that maybe they were one way at one point and then all of a sudden they had somebody else. How's that changed the way that they're change their mindset and changed the way they started looking for got them start thinking about something else so I think it's definitely changeable? I don't feel like these archetypes are set in stone <hes> but I think part of it is also the way that we are wired. They were just you know. We're born that way. Why are two kids that come on the same family with the same parents completely different personalities I have to we were talking about our kids right before we started recording? I have two girls you are two years apart and and my husband and I tend to treat them like a unit but they are so different from each other and they're they're. They're having the same childhood in my eyes but they're really not the same person so it's a a little bit of both and I think that they definitely that that the more work you do on yourself. <hes> the more you really are willing to hold up a mirror to yourself and do these types this type of work and be real in really focus on changing your mindset and and how can improve in what they change <hes> you can actually change the way fear is manifesting in in your life. Also you might have natural tendencies for its one fear architect more than another the or it could have changed completely or maybe just sort of you know they all your percentages. Go down well and that's the hope obviously of the reason for doing it and thanks these sponsors for bringing us today. "It. If you went to a night out downtown, you wouldn't have nearly as as as largest election. And as unlimited a selection as you would have, and you'd have to be paying the same price. Exactly. Yeah. I'm in. And, and if you want to bring it up natch, they had this grand cru of that, which is legitimately grand cru. My God Emma's forgot about the grand cru. We had some good times up there. The people that you met and the stuff we got to taste. So first of all, we love Molly duper only do the sparky Marquis. They have a watched Harley wide boy, named for their son when he was born Luke Marquis. We met that dude now he's what twenty four twenty five. Yeah. And he's and he's now one of the one of the winemakers or he's, he's a bit of culture. For the for while duper and the blue eyed boy was pouring blue eyed boy until glasses. Nice guy too. Funny. Molly duke. He's ever heard of boy. I'm like, yeah. He's like, that's me. And then there's like for Rory the, the they make sparkling wine in Italy. And it's like that was there. And all these high end board does these number Hillary's Poran the champagne Renard and all that kind of stuff. Oh, yeah. And what's that can't remember the name right now? But Coppola bought the the like one of the leading. Napa or California wine estates from like the forties and fifties. Forgot the name of at the moment and they're bringing back and they're redoing, the vineyards is going to be ten years for the everything where the vineyards are to place where it's going to be. But there poor on that line there, which you never got to see in there. You know. Oh, yeah. If you wanna bubbly from England of all places that was really good apple down. I heard that in Kent that it's like they have Chuck soil, there, like they do in champagne. And this was drinking who's bubbles Chappel down three graces, that was good and the English love their bubbly me. And the reason the rest of the world owes bubbly cause hangups love it so much. I mean they drink it like like it's going out like water. I think now that one if you wanna go to that, I can't remember, if you have to have gourmet tickets and buy tickets to this. But this is almost like separate where you need another ticket to get up into the grand. Cru. Two hundred thirty dollars or is it is amazing, the number of wines that were up there. I mean it's one. I mean it's at no point you go, what, what's that wind doing your wise this special? No, it was like, oh my God. That's here that one's here and now it's here. And what this is this is a fifteen year old wine. No, it was like, if you, if you try to do that at a restaurant, or at a at a night out in a bar, you would spend considerably more. I mean, if that's your thing, you're gonna be spending a considerable amount more than you would at this even though the price sounds oh, two hundred thirty more dollars on top of that to get in. Yeah. But if you, but if you compare this experience to what you would do without this event, you know, it's, it's gonna be it's gonna be a lot Mon. Yeah. The quality stuff is just amazing. And another thing I like about Chicago or may, as you don't have to mess with the tickets situation. It's two tickets this drinks for tickets, and it's, it's just all walk around and, and tastes, whatever you want. You have to mess with it. Right. You know. Oh, I got fifteen tickets. I hope I like everything. And you know, this is the days. Well, because it's an adult carnival they trust you to, to actually conduct yourself in a fine wine really have never actually seen a problem their view. No, not at all. And, and it sounds like you're running around millennium park having fun. But she cannot bring it's twenty one and over. Yeah. Don't think about bringing your kids in their strollers and the price tag does, you know, the I mean, it's not the least expensive thing. To do in town. You can buy you can buy a case of two buck Chuck and have a party in your backyard. And, you know, Taiwan but that, you know, if you if you wanna get crazy, but this is really just. An almost not I wouldn't say overwhelming experience, but it's, it's, it's more than you can actually take in one day. It is very cool. It is one of our favorite fests of the year beautiful surroundings, and it's a good segue. I think speaking of needing tickets, you know, where you get like ten tickets and then go taste is the windy city wine festival, which was really nice. It was around the fountain alarm Buckingham fountain. Same kind of thing you're drinking wine and Chicago sky land, your background and fountains there. But that one, you got word got up. We got gotta poor some out on the curb for that festival. It's dead. It's not coming back for twenty nineteen. Yeah. And it has nothing to do with the incident last year. You were you were not convicted. So there you go. That was beautiful. And that was that was on the northern half of Buckingham fountain, which if you haven't seen buck. Well, if you'd watch what's that show married with children in the fountains there? It is legitimately awesome, fountain that you would pretty much expect to see in a plaza in Rome somewhere. It's at cool fountain and the we we go at night. They light it up in the water has streams of color, and you have this wine fest around, it's kind of a nice thing to do and is usually a very cool night on a summer, but sat there anymore. Oh, yeah. I have gotten so many quarters out of that thing. Jim go to Saint Patrick's block party, the AllState factors blackberry, largest black party in the world or something Patrick's was a church that survived the Chicago fire. It wasn't too far away from where missile areas. Calendar was. And when it first started out, it was like twenty dollars a ticket, and they gave you fifteen beards. I gets it was a Catholic thing. Irish Catholic and it was like, oh, my God fifteen tickets, you would go there and have seven beers in give your other eight the people walking in now, it's like four times the price and you get five beer tickets. You The know. reality of the world said in there. But yeah. See same kind of thing they probably had an incident all they had many incidents. It was the it was also people would get engaged on the steps of Saint Patrick's old, Saint Patrick's church cool. And I think it had something to do with the fifteen beers probably. But I do get a little romantic. When I've had a few wines is so you can tell we get kind of excited about bringing wine outside into the great outdoors it, because it is, it's not. Yeah, you think of it as maybe a drinking wine as a winter thing or whatever. But now it kind of goes everywhere, with everything all absolutely. So there you go. Chicago may, if you're thinking about coming out. You know, think about it. It's, it's a it's an once it's a once in a year experience, since it's little brother. They weren't related the windy city, wine fest was wasn't the same thing. It wasn't a spectaculars app, but it was fun. Check it out if you're coming to Chicago or if you need a reason to come to Chicago Chicago may dot com. Get your tickets there and cheap wine finder dot com to check out like we've got pictures from the last whatever five six years of going to the thing. And, and the winds that we, we tasted there we've written up there. So check it out. G point. Yeah. The I think southern wine and spirits, is the one that brings everything in there, one of the largest in the world. I don't think there's other neymar think they, they summit so every he bought air selection of what's there is top notch. And then if you that's another, you can go upstairs, and you can drink the expensive stuff, you know, and that's, that's what it is. And that's it for us. I think we talked, we got all excited about drinking wine outside and there you are out until you're. Cheap..

"A baby back in the day. She was very pretty. So a lot of stuff. I remember north north northwest. It was a great one. Good actors. Right. Good actress fine singer, and then became the big animal advocate at the end. She was always covered in puppies. And she had the animal foundation that I mean everybody who's an animal lover knows her contribution to animals and this foundation does unbelievable work. It's actually the foundation announced her death this morning. So very sad day for doors day fans is it true. Anyway, it's almost the same age. But is it true that she got Betty white involved in animals? That's the story. I have known her story would not surprise me. At all. I mean, the two are pretty much equals when it comes to animal rights and Betty Betty white. I think is I love her more now for being an animal rights activists than I did on the golden girls. But yeah, I would say pretty even on that. She is ninety seven to the. Wow. At eight forty six if you're still trying to get to work on the Ike. I'm not surprised this lane change thing. It shouldn't be the end of the world. But that construction and the mouth of the Eisenhower were narrows down to either be wells where the Kennedy of the Ryan is messing people up. How bad is it? Now. It's still pretty bad. I'm still in our coming in to me. I think it's a little bit easier. Just because before in the left lane they had the barricades shooting out. And you got like crushed in as well this time, there's an obvious. You know difference of separation of going to be wells to the left or going to the Ryan or the Kennedy to the right? You just have to be aware that and pay attention to signs that it's going to happen. Yeah. You don't need to slow down to three miles an hour. But it is a very narrow lane, though, if you're heading wells. It's extremely narrow especially if you have the Tahoe, right? Yeah. I mean buses buses that is a question and in delivery, trucks, and stuff. You know? So that I understand why you might go a little slower. But yeah. Just keep moving. That's all folks. Just keep moving. Yeah. And I went through in the dark, and it was like, whoa. You know, it's okay. It's not not that bad. It's just very narrow thing that hold trip from the western burbs is become an obstacle course. You know, the if you're traveling from the western burbs, you know, eight turns into to ninety or two ninety four everything's under construction that whole area as well. Yeah. You got to you got a lane left Ican can whip through or you could stay to the right and narrow lane at their the construction. They gotta do what they gotta do. But man has just been a pain in the behind. You know, if you're an hour late for work this morning. That's why. And no change in sight. Right. I mean, we're talking two more years two more years to the whole chain burn interchange. Mass. There's that era where the pinches down. I don't know that about Ashland probably. Right. Same aero. Just mocks me. Now. Every day. You drive see aero flashing. Yeah. Bait and especially if you're really early at like four whenever I come in. It's they always pick this construction up at five. When it meantime, they might block off all of the entrance ways to either be wells or they might block off it to the Ryan or to the Kennedy. So you have to have ads up. So we're sorry. You're stuck in it. I was as well this morning and keep moving. Say you get into a tough tragic situation that you floor get out of there as fast as you possibly can get into that narrow lane. I was doing seventy five here the one all right? Eight forty eight. We'll come back tell you about an organization, we think you should know about as well. And what they do a lot of people can't wrap their heads around. Why am I giving money to a hospital? Aren't they big and rich and stuff? We'll tell you. Why just a second before we do that at eight forty nine. What's coming up? Steve at twenty seven year old woman escaped his sexual assault on the lakefront trail Friday night right near Buckingham fountain. We'll have the story coming up at nine o'clock from the WGN newsroom. Bad on the Edens expressway..

Started out one in six remember that remember when they were one in six. Uh-huh. It was a great weekend for the Cubbies. So and in the newsroom, it's Vic Vaughn Vicky. I thought it was practically magic leave. It was four. Yeah. I can't believe like you said, I I couldn't believe it was three hours or a little more than three hours and feel like they're all no it really doesn't. I mean, the pay the pacing his great moves. Yeah. But yeah. And it's just making. We'll we'll talk about the box office. It's making ridiculous amounts of money. I mean, like just absurd. Yeah. I think it deserves every penny thing. I mean, it's just it's it is massive right now at the box office worldwide. We'll talk about the numbers with Eric when we get to the box office. But yeah. Yeah. I'll tell you man, you know. Spangling did a great job with Frankenstein on Saturday night. You know, the bits that he did. And all that stuff man that movie's good. I mean, man, I mean, I know I'm stating the obvious, but. Man. It's a classic. Oh, man. And Karloff is so good. And then, you know, Saturday this coming Saturday, it's bride of Frankenstein. Which is just as good if not better than Franken is my personal favourite. Yeah. No, it's beautiful. It's a great movie. But man, it was it was so cool to watch it again. I mean, I've seen it nine thousand times I've seen Frankenstein a bunch of times. But it was really it was it was great to see it. And he's in for those of you know. Who didn't get a chance to listen in a couple of days ago, we had rich on gooey and we had him on to talk about his fortieth anniversary is this fortieth year doing the characters fan Guli, which is incredible. But if for the entire month of may, he showing Frankenstein movies, so he showed Frankenstein this past Saturday this coming Saturday. It's going to be bride of Frankenstein. And then the following Saturday will be Evan Castillo, meet Frankenstein, which of course, is the most requested movie that specialty gets requests for and then the final Saturday in may is ghost of Frankenstein. So which is which is also a really great movie. So it's it's a lot of fun. But watching the original Frankenstein was really cool. It was really really cool. And of course, which does a great job. So looking forward to more of of the Frankenstein month, the Frankensteins of Frankenstein movies with with rich. So that's all coming up. All right. We've got..
