Fresh update on "buckeye" discussed on Town Hall Ohio
"Across Ohio, like W, N. C e 0 13 40 AM in Ashland. W. N. K N 105.9 FM in Cincinnati and Dayton and in Columbus, 6 10 W. T V N. And, Of course, you can find our Ohio Weekly on all of your favorite podcast platforms as well. This week talking about the farm economy and getting a perspective from the AG banker visiting with President and CEO Will Heilman from Farm Bureau Bank as more and more people, especially here in Ohio, With the start of this relationship between Ohio Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau bank begins to unfold, You're going to be meeting a lot of new perspective clients from the Buckeye State when you look Starting that new relationship with a farmer and a farm operation. What do you look for you? You mentioned looking back and finding out the track record. But what exactly do you dig into? And what kind of paperwork And what kind of information do you need in order to get that ball rolling? Yeah, well, the way to get started with a bank is to really develop that relationship. We want to get to know your banker and some people go well, you don't have branches in Ohio. Where do I get to go down and meet a banker and One thing that Covid has helped. A lot is we can have conversations like you and I are happy right now We're on the radio. We're actually looking at each other on video. We're not in the same studio and it has helped us develop some of those relationships and we develop a lot of relationships over found and we just want to understand. Understand your operation. So how long you been in business? And if you're getting started, you may have a new business. But you're working on the family farm and you're going out on your own. Did you have experience We want to understand that. You, um Um, this don't have a dream, but you have some some solid plans to make that dream work. Now, if you truly are starting out in the very beginning be difficult to get bank credit because bank credit is given to folks who have experience and paying those loans back up. Fortunately, USDA does has some, um Programs for for folks are trying to get started in the business, and those are probably the first things to look at. But after you've gotten started, the Faisal's every want to just pay your bills. The more you have a history of paying your bills, even if it's your personal credit card. Your personal auto loan if you've shown that you can pay Bills back is going to certainly give you a leg up or getting new credit in the future. What your outlook for agriculture for 2021 beyond well, we're somewhat optimistic as we talked about earlier. We think some of the payments are going to go away so overall incoming May come down, but I think all of us would rather have more income from our operations and it looks like commodity prices are starting to improve a little bit, and that that certainly helps. Hopefully Um, as we talked about earlier and we get we get through this covid piece. I think the economy could could really boom. Hopefully, trade will continue to improve. That obviously, is a huge impact, too. The farm economy in this country is to continue to get more of our products sold overseas. And while there's been a change the administration I think we believe they're committed to improving trade as well and we should continue to see those improvements. Before I let you go. We talked a lot about agriculture. But as you mentioned, you work in the credit card world you can finance vehicles and tractors and I'm guessing homes as well. If someone's looking to do something like that, and money is relatively cheap right now, we have seen the lowest interest rates we have in some time in agriculture. We know the reason the cost of corn or soybeans go up and down. We understand. All the factors that go into marketing all the commodities that we grow and raise across Ohio and across the country when it comes to interest rates, what causes them to fluctuate? And are we going to see much of a bump either way in the coming months or years? Well, interest rates generally move with the economic cycle, so when we're in tough times like we are now rates generally go down, and when times get better, they tend to go up because The Federal Reserve is lowering rates to stimulate the economy, and it starts to raise them to make sure we don't get overheated. With inflation and so forth. We think rates are going to stay relatively low for some time with over service. Um Pretty much said they don't intend to raise rates for some time. And if you're someone who borrows that's a great time, um To be, um, in the market. Refinance your mortgage if you haven't already actually can refinance your car. A lot of people don't realize that a lot of the business we're doing right now, if you bought a car two years ago. You may be able to refinance it and actually save a little bit on your car payments. Now, If you're retired and are saving, you're you're probably not really excited about what those CDs are yielding. These days, and that's just sort of the challenge in the banking world when borrow was her happy savers or not, and vice versa, But we we expect rates are gonna stay relatively low for the next 12 24 months, But But after that, you know who knows what's gonna happen..

When folks extra california they think palm trees they think of beaches. That can come hollywood. I think of the bay area but a lot of people don't conjure an image of when it comes to central california is like giant magnificent loss of produce in atalante. They may not realize that the central valley inside california's responsible for exporting between twenty and thirty percent of the world's food agriculture has been the driving industry here since these cities were born. And think that that really is what people think of. Like heartland america i think of cornfields and buckeyes and i'm talking about grapes and almonds and teaches cows. You know just a different image. I think than than what most people think of as california so when you imagine yourself there in the nineties or you're managing yourself. They're here in in central california two things to know number one that creates a system where almost like modern day feudalism where the folks who own operate the land really. That's where wealth is concentrated. And then i think secondly is that there's another side of that coin which is the labor that powers the land and gets that land to produce

"Trevor Lawrence had one of his worst games throwing the ball completing fifty four percent of of his passes eighteen to thirty three. He was four of thirteen over ten yards. He was twelve. Twelve behind. Line of scrimmage or under ten yards in the middle of the field so really he completed some easy ones some stuff decent attacking the linebackers but really didn't throw the ball. Where Shit anywhere else? Justin Ross was targeted. Eleven Times he was one for six over ten yards. Five hundred ten yards four. Those behind the line of scrimmage so safe to say Justin Ross got shut down t higgins targeted seven. Sometimes now granted. He missed a lot of the first half with a concussion protocol. But he's two of five past the line. Scrimmage zero targets downfield over twenty yards. Clemson could not move the line of scrimmage and that was a testament to the three inside D. Lineman that played outstanding leaders Jay Sean Cornell and Dave on Hamilton but but all in all heartbreaking for the buckeyes absolutely heartbreaking. And you could blame officiating all you want. You can talk talk about any call. All you want as the Miami hurricanes how that goes the moral of the story is when you have the ball in your hands at the end of the game you have to win it. Clemson did Ohio state didn't period. You can bitch about anything else you want. The game is GONNA to come down to a drive at the end. And you have to seal the victory. Trevor Lawrence. Did Justin feels did not that is. Why clemson won the game? Not because of any zebras not because of any officiating. Hard pill to swallow. That shit happens. That's part of the game. When you control what you can control you? Go Out and win the game but hope you enjoyed the analysis really really sick for the Buckeyes. Obviously a lot of close ties to the program a lot of close ties to the players. A lot of close ties to the coaching staff so heartbreaking. I really felt like they were the best in the country but I did know that those are the best teams in the country. They were GonNa play and whoever came out in my opinion is going to win the National Championship. But we'll talk about that more next week. "Oh and they they've just got a longstanding history and it doesn't necessarily even matter if you're that good of a football player so they have this history of they get mesmerized with something and i think that's what's happened here with john gruden gruden since he's left has become a an even bigger caricature of what he was as a coach as easy even more amplified now on television and i really do think that the the raider organization they're kind of falling victim again to he's it fits kind of a narrative for them and it's going to automatically fix all their woes and i'm not sure it's there yeah i'm not sure it's there either he's getting a ten he's getting ten million dollars a year for the next ten years one hundred million dollar contract now the the ins and outs of the contract can be debated some more arguing that's going to be a backloaded contract but that's not really even the point he's getting paid an amount of money that i mean if that's what he's gonna get i mean what do you think bill bellichik is worth at this point i know there's been some debate about bill belgium in his future with the with the new england patriots i mean i'd throw that amount of money to build bella check to get him out of there don't you think well yeah and they were talking about giving gruden an ownership stake at one point which i i don't even think they would that's even allowable within the act of bylaws and all that kind of stuff but yeah the the the money side of this is pretty compelling because this is a new standard for coaches by a long shot i think bella checks making like seven and a half and he was the next highest guy so this is a huge bump in in in contracts and it it if you look at it through the lens of what happens in sports from a player's perspective is aaron rodgers will get a new contract and he sets the bar and then matt ryan will get a new contract and he jumps the bar little bit higher and then the you know.

"Do you get a sense of of what what's different about nick sabin 2018 national championship verses of the several before leading up to this military now sam yang saying it to spain this is the you know everything a business trip and there's no question that that's how he feels uh con through now of course again for the third consecutive year or his second consecutive year either the restaurant dan i think he's aware of that i don't think it's an identity thing for him but the impact opened is very real and i know he's aware of that morning marty mcgee espn radio and the espn app marty mcgee credit busy this morning with the college football playoff got media day today i'm joe obvious ben heart sock is with us today as well you can tweet us at espn radio at giovianazzo vis or at ben under score heart sock so john gruden ben is back in the game although i do think it's it's we live in a weird world where a john gruden still doing promo serie sb at talking about the playoffs this weekend uh and he's going to be introduced as the clinton patriots' head coach on tuesday he's all every he's everywhere john bruins just everywhere he's doing hooters commercials corona commercials espn perello and he's gonna be the head coach of the oakland raiders on tuesday and i can't shake the feeling that what the oakland raiders are really getting into is just this this the myth of group and not necessarily the coaching ability of gruden there's a myth that has been built up with his time at espn that oakland desperately wants to get back to you i can't shake that feeling i don't know if you're in the same way what the the raiders have a history of they take the biggest guy every year and the fastest guy if you're bigger than everybody else or your faster than everybody else the raiders wants you remember tommy kelley few years.

"The budget but the but the thing is is that they've been kicked so long they've been georgia fans are a dog chained in the backyard that you'd once a day you go out and kick it every year i live in georgia and i watch these guys they they won't allow themselves to get excited and and they finally did and they let me tell you something the hope in these people's eyes is fascinating and the war they want it's a yeah it's it's what's great about our game i mean it's it's incredible to watch because i was concerned that the state of georgia didn't care about sports i didn't seem to care of when the falcons went to the super bowl but i just figured out that it's they live i am going to school balls different that yes there is apathy forty nfl yeah there is no apathy for this college football his life it's there the identity of every single town in which the university's reside and that is no different problem in athens certainly marty smith joining us on espn radio and the espn app on the shell pennzoil performance line i was curious um you know nick sabin can be a polarizing figure with the way that he uh kind of complains about things he was complaining right atom there the but he he is the mayhem curious 'cause you you've been in bed with these teams you've been in bed with dabbo you've been around nick in the alabama program for a long time there's there there's a completely different personable side of nick sabin that we don't necessarily see on the national scale why do you think that is.

"Ports that have talked about how last year golf struggled mightily it was well and now them this year sean mcveigh has come in and jared golf is playing lights out football and the big one of the biggest changes that has happened is mcveigh is talking to jared golf in his headset for those you know i think everybody should know by now or if you don't you know that there is a communication device from the sideline into the quarterback it has been that way for years and years there are no signals in the nfl because the coach will call in a play to the quarterback in the huddle well in a college game for years now the creek critique every draft cycle is that no college quarterbacks r a c nfl ready because that we have i call it the prairie dole golf unz is in the college game where the entire offense stands up like a prairie dog out in oklahoma and looks to the sideline in unison waiting for the coach to give a giant sign that tells them all what to do and so quarterbacks don't have to know necessarily every read every check and so it's that's at the detriment to their development in the nfl game bruce arriens famously has has kind of called that out and i've experienced some of that first hand during my playing career cam newton when he came into the carolina panthers he desperately wanted a wristband that had every play on it so that he could read it at the quarterback or the coach would call in and say run twenty two he look at the twenty two on his wrist ban and go in and then he would read that off to us but the coach wouldn't allow it because he wanted him to to learn the language of it when i was with the indianapolis colts in 04 o5 ano six the same thing happened with with peyton manning a little differently what is happening is a quarterback can have communication with the sideline until there's fifteen seconds on the play clock an and what is happening is john mcveigh is.

"Morning and link joe obvious with you ben hard sock on espn you can tweet us on the 1800flowerscom twitter feed at espn radio at joe lovie as ov r e s and at ben underscore heart sock we got playoffs coming up today in the nfl titans at chiefs at 420 on espn and then we get the falcons at the rams tonight storylines include which chief team shows up big came out of the gate hot everybody was excited about their offense started losing a bunch of games and kinda right at the ship the also have alex smith qbe where to go from here and what the rams ben what they lack in playoff experience from their quarterback chaired golf in their head coach shaun mcveigh they make up four in a really explosive offense putting up big time points in a board going up against in atlanta falcons team while yes they are the the defending nfc conference chance this just is not the same group that came into the playoffs shooting the lights out on their way to a super bowl so this to me is really curious of how this young group and how they cut of completely turn themselves around continues to do this later today in the playoffs mcveigh and golf have a relationship and the way they had that run they've been run their offense at suspend outright impressive he's gonna be the coach of the year and he deserves it outright yet i think the interesting thing is is what the rams have done have been a great demonstration in parity within the nfl they made a couple of key transitions roster moves and they changed their their coaches and next thing you know these guys are like they're contenders the it just like that it's amazing i credit andrew whitworth they're they're left tackle acquisition from the cincinnati bengals a he can't under i can't overestimate his importance his impact that locker room it's not just on fields of he's a great player but what he's done in that locker room is amazing the other thing that whether you're talking about his offense of li there have been repaid.
