"To George ignaz from Romania, we're hearing his amazing story. So George, you're very young and you're sucked into this life of, you know, we've heard about Russian oligarchs. We forget about the Romanian oligarchs. These are people with a lot of money, criminals, and they pull in, especially someone like you. And so you have all the trappings of wealth and luxury, and I know that you got married around this time and you move to London. I moved to London after spending a few years in Bucharest with these people. In the same time, I was practicing wrestling. For because of a personal stupid decision, I'm not going into details becoming is coming in my new book right now is a testimony of my life called he called me son and hopefully I will have the chance to publish it with a TBN again because I published already a book with TBN last year. What is not my testimony is just part of my testimony. The second volume is this story is coming in. But because of a stupid decision, I missed going to the 2004 Olympics. And that was something that really destabilized me mentally. I could not forget myself for taking this decision and losing my place in the Olympic team. And from there, I just carry on with the life of crime. I just wanted to make more money overnight, more and more money have more and when you sucked into something like this, it never ends and is never enough

"In the meantime, something happened in my life and things were switched a little bit and have to face different situations. When I was around 17 years old age, Eric, I was in Bucharest meeting a friend who put me in touch with some guys that they were presented to me as being businessmen. Wealthy businessmen. You know, it's difficult for me to express coming from a poor background, what it meant to me to meet these guys who have like, they were very open. They just embraced me as friends. And they were like, people driving really, really luxurious cars living in an ice houses. They went shopping for me. They put clothes. I was at that age, I was only dreaming to have a brand new Adidas track suit. I was a dream. I was the European Championship in Bratislava a year before that moment. And I remember I was staring at this track suit in a short window for half an hour. It was, I don't know if I can say the name. It was a big brand with a Real Madrid logo on the chest. I was a Real Madrid fan. And I was just dreaming and just imagining how that how good that tracks with my body and how beautiful it will be. One day to be able to buy one of those because that track should cost around 8 or 9 months of my paying. Well, this is the story of how people get sucked in by crime and corruption. People, those people who came around you, this story is as old as humanity. They took advantage of you, your innocence, and they pulled you into something that you didn't know what you were getting into. They put me in to something, and you know, I have a very good education at home. My parents are just very hard to work on its people. And I had this good education. And when I was pulled into this, literally pulled into by the luxurious life by the money that were around thinking that I have no future in sport by making a living, I was I was I got into this very soon after I realized that those people were not businessmen, they were having businesses upfront, but they were like leaders of organized crime of Bucharest over the years, 2000, right? But at that time in Romania, Eric was two ways you could go, especially a heavyweight wrestler. You either go and join the armed forces of police or the army. You either go enjoy those guys. There are two options you had in an athlete. Going and joined the army, you will only get to the small salary and go so option to options only for people like me coming from a poor background and everything. Anyway, meeting these guys, they switch my head around so from there, I continue, I start to get into a life of crime. And life was sport. There were two separate lives. I thought I can keep this and I can hold this together. My family never knew anything. In my mom would be assured, you know, just beat me up as big as I was. So that was not possible. But you know what, I was not 19 when I used to drive a very nice BMW black big car tinted windows and all kind of these things that youths are so much after. So my message to the youth out there, especially to those who have a dream because I have a dream my dream was to go to the Olympics eventually become an Olympic medalist. But I give up on my dream for this easy money that anyway they cover very, very fast. This story is as old as the hills and we people are tempted and by the grace of God he pulled you out of this, but there's much more to the story, folks. It's extraordinary. We'll be right back. And so the movie opens with these three Germans running through the streets of Bucharest trying to evade a Russian patrol group. And what's honest, what's odd is that the Russian patrols, in this case, are not that terribly motivated. It's not really sort of a life and death, you know, heavy music. They're running and they're being shot at, but this particular Russian patrol is drinking booze and chasing women and kind of in town. And they'll take a few pot shots and run, but it's not a, it's not sort of the heavy heavy intense, literally finishes its vodka bottle and throws it at the Germans. So they're evading, but it's a strange situation. And like you said, I think it's a little bit different than Saving Private Ryan or other great World War II movies. And what happens is that these Germans are left over, they're the last of the Germans in town because exactly as you said, Romania switched sides halfway through World War II. Whatever the economic price, by the way. I thought we have one more opportunity. And I figured since you're coming to us remotely from a hotel room here, you have the last word. Sure, yeah, let me make two points, I guess. So the first is that red on, you may be right, but Russia's intentions, and you may be wrong. There's no way to know this upfront. But even if you're right, it's not clear to me that economic isolation is the best way to deter Russia from future military action. After all, sanctions after Crimea did not deter Russia from building up its military. It's very hard to deter any determined oil and gas exporter from doing so. And just to add one point to what Jonas said earlier about the costs, we are talking primarily in this debate about whether the west should isolate Russia. And we've brought China into it, we haven't really talked about everybody else, and there are countries in sub Saharan Africa. There are countries in the Middle East that are probably going to face famine over the coming years because of the isolation of Russia. And so we do also need to think about those impacts, those impacts are not merely ones we're deciding for ourselves. They're ones that we are through the way secondary sanctions work imposing on other countries that may be far less able to cope with these impacts than we are. Okay. And that concludes round two of this debate. We're going to go to closing arguments now. So first up, closing arguments, two minutes in length, run on kind of, should we isolate Russia? Thank you. So, what I heard from our honorable opponents are mainly two arguments, the bully is far too strong, so with better accommodate him. And the bully is doing quite fine economically. So I will end this debate from my side with an example from my own country. We have strong pro Russian feelings in Bulgaria. We have very strong economic ties. "And familiar environment And the safest and the most similar environment for any child is a school Anastasia cannavale is teaching English to four or 5 and 6 year olds in Bucharest Romania Just over a month ago she was the head teacher of the ostrovac primary school in Odessa Ukraine But when Russia began its invasion she decided to leave I have a child and I wasn't thinking about anything but my child But that changed when she arrived in Romania We came three weeks ago and it was still a horrible mess at the border so they weren't thinking about education obviously But we were And I think subconsciously we already knew we were opening a school because we brought math books I brought one sweater and the big box of my books After arriving in Bucharest Anastasia helped evacuate 40 other people from Odessa by bus There are plenty of kids who needed to go to school but nowhere to meet She started looking for help and wound up at the train station which has become a main hub for refugee assistance with translators and resources for those fleeing Ukraine We can teach And they said yeah but it's not our priority And then we it was very hard time for us We weren't stable mentally So at some point I started to yell at the station that there are a lot of children here which need our help and we can teach just give us space And a random guy from the train station set a stop yelling and scaring people You see here is the post from our major and he wrote that there will be two centers for Ukrainian refugees organized And you should go there and go away By the evening the big center for children with a lot of toys and furniture and everything was organized with the help of volunteers just random.

"That it could become a NATO member? Well, NATO actually stated Ukraine will become a NATO member at its Bucharest summit in 2008. By 2008, many countries had already joined NATO and Ukraine and Georgia were showing interest as well. There was a NATO summit in the Romanian city of Bucharest. And at that summit, there was a fight essentially between president George W. Bush and his advisers such as Condoleezza Rice. And Europeans who thought it would be a bridge too far because of the friction with Moscow to put Ukraine and Georgia into NATO. And so what resulted was a compromise which was unfortunately the worst of all possible worlds. NATO did not take any practical steps to make Georgia or Ukraine members. In other words, if a country is really going to become a member, once that's clear, there's a series of practical steps that immediately kick in. None of those happened. But as a compromise, the alliance issued a summit declaration with the words, Georgia and Ukraine will become members of NATO. The idea was on some distant day in the future, and we're not actually going to take any steps to implement it. And so that was a compromise to make president George W. Bush and the Americans happy. The problem was that when president Vladimir Putin of Russia saw that, he took it at face value and said, Georgia and Ukraine will become members of NATO over my dead body and immediately found an excuse to take military action in Georgia in 2008. And that de facto put an end to Georgia in hopes of membership because the NATO alliance is loathed to take on a new ally that already has a preexisting conflict on its territory..

I'm gonna take the trump vaccine well then trump lost the election and now all of a sudden the vaccines fine. Yeah it's the same vaccine. They're lining up for it. They're proud. They're wearing their stickers. The happiest moment of my life. Oh my god. There was a woman who posted that on she was. It was a photograph of her getting the vaccine a selfie like she was taking a picture of herself wearing a mask to giving it to her with a needle in her arm the happiest moment of my life. Sad life yeah. There are so many things that i can think of. This woman was happier clearly like in her late forties so she'd handled a long life up until this point life is about taking risks. I'm terrified to fly. I still fly. I've done it. I'm so scared of it. But i mean you have to. Just that's the difference between bravery and cowardice. I don't think fear itself is the problem. It's the cowardice being willing to overcome the fear. Right who'd tens to the thing you want to write fears a tool and usually when you're afraid of something but you have to force yourself to do it. You realize it's not as bad. So that's how people learn to stop being you know just completely. I'm not going to get on a plane. They get on it and they're like oh. I survived still flying hillsdale good. It feels good when you overcome fear when you've accomplished a thing that you've never accomplished before and now you've got a whole society full of people that are afraid to even leave their homes so now and there's more to this guardian story that we started earlier in the show and i want to continue it. And i'm not entirely sure why i don't get it but you know like we have someone that wouldn't put a seatbelt on so we can land thing. I don't know it didn't make any sense. Came in for a landing and they aborted the landing and to suck around again. I don't know what was going on with that. Honestly but that was just like a thing that happened to us. That's just like a fun store. Fun example of the type of thing that i'm talking about that's and i would just say so. I can be resolved. Edina one hundred percent agrees with me on this right. So i get the trying. Please absolution on my generalization. So but what i will say so. The flight was fine for me. It was more anxious to me on the plane. Like it kind of went. Exactly as i expected by and large most people Had the mosques on and you know i believe the airlines when they say that the filtration like in the s systems on a plane travel right. Believe that because the plan was freezing. It's like they were pumping through that thing and at some point. You kinda just have to trust. I feel we're going to do this. We had to have some level of trust. So i'm just gonna choose to trust the airline and take them face value one thing. I will say. I was genuinely incredibly surprised. The mosque wearing 'romania mania especially on public transport vossler bet at in england That's awesome wasn't expecting it. Neither of us were but Like shops and stuff. Like i can't remember really seeing anybody. That wasn't observing the rules there and my understanding is it wasn't until quite recently much more strict and they reduced it like. I think they would do if you outside. You had to wear masks so come. The expectation was that like people war wearing them in the places. They were told to wear them so they wouldn't have to do that again. So that was like a bit more obedience from it. That way The trip itself was really nice I enjoy we're in bucharest. I enjoyed bucharest very much. It is especially these days becoming much more like any type of modern european city and what it has available to you. Yeah i feel like over the years of analog you've been you've been saying that repeal in a good way i don't zagged is vastly changed over like the five or six years i've been visiting right in. What is like the so much great coffee and like now. There's like a bunch of ice cream shops. Which is like wasn't a thing the last time we went. It's it's it's really interesting to watch it change. We were staying in like a hilton hotel. The umbrella renovated and it was really nice So you know. I i like being the much much more now because i get the creature comforts. I want if i'm on there like quote unquote vacation. Sure this definitely felt more like traveling than vacation. Tell me more. That makes 'cause we didn't really. I mean the the point of it was not to go to have a holiday was to go and see family and friends like reunite with people right. That was the goal trip so we were quite busy. In a way the at internet. I would not be if we were on vacation. I gotcha like going here. Seeing this person going here saying this person in this like that's not really how we take vacations with much more lazy with it But it was a great break. The it is the first time i've had away from work since january twenty. I have not been any days of really. You know like. I've been things where maybe like. I did a thing on the day then. I work the next day like you and it was also like you know so. I was still kind of available stood. Did some work stuff. But this is like the closest. I've had a vacation since which was great But the the trip in general was a great success. You know in that. We got to see so many people one thing that we did was because it was so travel with so messed up. We didn't tell anyone we were coming accepting mom because i said to the the the plans that we didn't wanna get anybody's hopes up right. Yeah that makes. It seemed like it was going to be so difficult for us to do. It didn't want anybody change or make plans shirt. we would then have to cancel. I suggested to edina that she needed to tell her mom because mom would never forgive us because she would not be able to get ready all of the things that she would be like food wise and stuff so we told it in his mouth but didn't tell anybody else and it was eating his brother's birthday. Oh that's fantastic. So we just arrived as party. He must have lost. His mind was so good so like we knock on the door and he opens the door and like he has an initial shock face and then like a second one which was fantastic. Because i he just saw me like he just looked directly at me almost like what and then sir and it was and he just lost his mind. It was really amazing. And here's the thing that i will say i'm a human being. All of my care and precautions went immediately out of the window of reuniting loved ones. I don't. I'm sure that maybe there's a lot of people who have experienced this..
