"In there and Jay, you made a great point early and we all talked about it going into the NCAA tournament for the big 12 as a whole. How would their defense be officiated in the NCAA tournament and the reality is it's being officiated at the same level that it was when they were playing in the big swell. And so because of that physicality, that's going to be an issue for duke. And because of that, I do think that it's actually going to be a lower scoring game for duke and that favors Texas tech. Bryson Williams presents some problems for them as well because of his inside out ability. And Kevin mcculler, I think he's due to make some shots. He hasn't played as well. I don't think when the offensive end that he's capable of, but I do think that physicality issue and the way the rest will call that game. And if it's consistent with the way that they called it throughout the NCAA tournament, that favors Texas tag. So I have Texas tech moving on there. Have you guys, have you guys heard in the last several years, coaches, whether it's in their halftime interview going off or out of the huddle or all this stuff, even postgame, talk about physicality as much as they are this year. I mean, it has been, I hear that all the time. And the stuff I hear privately, which I can't repeat. But in their public interviews, there's been more talk about we need to be more physical, the physicality of this game, physicality. Some of the stuff that's being allowed now would not be allowed on a wide receiver at football. And that Baylor North Carolina game was incredible what was allowed and what went on called. But just what the coaches are saying to me is a pretty good indication. What they're saying publicly, pretty good indication that Texas tech is going to be able to do the same things that big 12 teams Big Ten teams have done and all the leaks have done all year long with regard to being overtly physical in these games without files being called. I think they can be physical. Here's the deal is a duke defends this game because duke defends they're going to be able to play ahead of defensive duke defends. They're going to create turnovers because at times Texas tech turns it over. Duke defends, they're going to be able to force contested shots. I think the big question is duke rebounds. We're going to have to rebound the ball. I mean, they can rebound a clear, they're going to play, you talked about fonts about wanting them to play faster. Yes. Jeremy rose, still play faster, they can get a stop. And then when he starts pushing it all of a sudden, you're going to see those wings, you know, respond. To me, this only comes down to really duke, not settling, getting those paper points, not subtly packing. And I think they're going to attack in the middle of the floor with bank care. They have a couple of sets where to catch them. They clear out the backside. They run that little Iverson cut and dive one of the post guys to the other side and create that drive. And then duke, in terms of special situations, the play that I thought was a big play to do Michigan state game and lightbulb went on last play the first half. They ran the elevator play in slip Mark Williams in front of the rim. You need to make those plays in the answer of my tournament. You need to make those plays to in a close game. You need to have something in your backpack where you can steal a basket. So I think duke's going to move on from that region. I think that they'll handle the physicality. But they will touch power bank Caro in the face. There's no doubt about let's go to the next. Let's go to the foul. Wouldn't that be a foul? That would be a maybe not. Maybe a warning. Carolina. Carolina, UCLA, before we digress with Bill..

"The stakes are really high because you're two wins away and everyone's had a two game win streak away from getting to the final four. The ultimate goal to compete for national championship. Let's start with the west. Rub those bald heads like crystal balls and take a look into the future. Good contagion Arkansas, Texas tech and duke. Gonzaga and Arkansas, just off the top of your head, finds a rally. What your gut, what you're feeling, what's the key? Yeah, I have the zags moving on there too much firepower. Drew Timmy, obviously took that game over in the second half against Memphis. I think he's problematic inside. I know Jalen Williams will be interesting to see which way I imagined Jalen Jalen Williams is going to guard him on the interior and I love JD note, that duke can absolutely get buckets, but I do think teams who have been able to take him out of the game by not once he gives it up by not allowing him to catch a catch it back. Makes them play forward on the backside and I think Arkansas is a little bit easier to prepare for in that sense. And I think the zags will do the same ride and I said that every time riding them hard is creighton Andrew nem Hart is going to be really important for Gonzaga to win a national title because they need his offense and his aggressiveness from the point guard position. Yeah, I agree. I mean, I like in zaga in that region and I have from the beginning. Doesn't mean they're going to win, obviously. But against Arkansas, like Arkansas, shot 27% against New Mexico state. They clamp down teddy Allen did a tremendous job. They won that game. What was it? 53, 45 or something. I mean, it was obscenely low scoring. But they dominated Arkansas dominated the free throw line. They're not going to, you know, you're not going to hold Gonzaga under 75. So you're going to have to be much more efficient offensively. And I think it's going to come down to does Gonzaga really guard him because I'm not, I'm not sure against zag is the same defensive team now. They were two months ago. And they're going to have to be because I think Arkansas can score. And Stanley mud has had some really good games. I think Devo Davis is a really good player. They've got talent and athleticism that they're not a great shooting team. And they knock their free throws down against a Mexico state. But man, you're going to have to you're going to have to guard at every position, not getting filed trouble and then put points on the board because Gonzaga's going to keep coming and they're going to take open shots and they're going to get in the lane. I think at 62 points in the paint in their last game, right? Yes. I mean, that's 62. That's incredible. And there are formidable on offense. And if they guard, I just don't, I think it would be really tough for Arkansas. Yeah, I've got zag. And drew Timmy, we spent all our time talking about how good Chad home ren is in terms of his potential. But the two most important players to me for Gonzaga are drew Timmy, who's not a good player of the year candidate in terms of college basketball. And Andrew network, I mean, when the engineer is aggressive, he's really, really good. I mean, a few we always talk, he wants him to attack. He says he's so good off at ball screen. The more aggressive he is to better off is and I think the one thing about Arkansas, they do get to the line and they put you in Fauci. Can Arkansas get a net hard shot from can they get opinion found trouble because they have free through rate is at a very, very high level. But I got exactly winning that one. And we got Texas tech and duke and I'll start with you, Jay. I mean, thanks to tech obviously, the more physical the game is going to be, the uglier it's going to be, the more it's going to be a fist fight, obviously it's an advantage. Just to in general, philosophically, you think Texas tech can keep duke on one side, or do you think duke's going to play through that middle third? I think they'll try to play through the middle of the court, but Texas tech is really there are an excellent defensive team, not just the pressure they put on the ball, but their help side is really good. And when they rotate when they double like they call it fire when they, when they do their defensive rotations, all those things. They come over with force. I mean, it is not just somebody being in the right position. They come over to impact you. And they do it physically. They go after the ball. It'll be a different feeling that duke will have against Texas tech than they've had in some past games. And I just wonder, can the red raiders score enough points? I think Kevin o'bannon can really score and I think Bryson Williams can score. He's proven that against Kansas. And they can play in some uptempo games, but they're going to have to shoot better than four of 15 from three to beat duke. And they're going to have to put up more than 60 points or whatever they scored against Notre-Dame. It's going to have to, they're going to have to ratchet things up on the offensive and be way more efficient because duke and put points on the board. And I don't think you're going to hold them into the 60s. I think you're going to have to win the game up in the 70s. Advance in there and Jay, you made a great point early and we all talked about it going into the NCAA tournament for the big 12 as a whole. How would their defense be officiated in.

"Duke has one of the most efficient offenses, despite not really running anything complex. It's just about talent and athletes and Texas tech's defense is number one in the country. And they're also both trending and adjusted efficiency as being number one and offense and number one in defense. It's really a fun matchup from that perspective. When you look at duke, it's about the talent in the athletes, which you mentioned, 5 potential picks in the top 40. And without running anything of substance on offense, their average in a 119 points per hundred possessions. But something's got to give because allowing 83 points per hundred possessions. Ultimately for me, the way officials call this end of the court is the biggest factor. The way Texas tech wants to defend you, they can be really handsy. And I think that's the real X Factor when duke your opponent and they're already getting most 50 50 calls on normal situations, but now every game is potentially coach case last. That does become somewhat worrisome in a pick them like game. So I think that's probably the first thing is how this game is officiated. The second is can do kit jumpers. Texas tech is like super old school in that day. They pack the paint. They shut the middle of the court down they cut off driving lanes. And they're very good, one on one defenders. And tech basically forces you to shoot from outside. And there was a good nugget that I heard and I don't have the kid's name, but he tweeted out that Texas tech this season's played 24 unique opponents. 17 of those 24 had their lowest scoring output in the paint. And if you look it makes sense, Texas tech is number one in the country in near proximity attempts allowed. Their number four in defending those near proximity shots. Now, if you look at duke, they have the size to shoot over the top. You have been chero at 6 ten. He can knock down some jumpers. You have more in Griffin, both 41% plus from the outside. Jeremy roach has been a nice contributor lately helping duke space the floor a little bit. I just hope the refs swallow the whistle. Because if they do, we know what tech is capable of defensively. And you have this added prep time. And I think they can make life difficult for duke offensively if they go hero ball mode, which we have seen pretty much throughout the course of this season, but kind of going back to this price. And that's kind of where the problem lies from me Todd. I expected the game to open duke minus two. But unfortunately, in college basketball, there's very few real oddsmakers and most just got Ken ball. So tech opens minus one. And to me, that is also bookmakers taking a stands as well. And I would envision this being one way traffic come game day from recreational betters on duke. So we'll be really interesting to see where this fluctuates, right? Again, it'll be telling potentially if duke ends up closing a favorite, although not a ton of money required to go through the zero, but a little bit more basketball. If tech moves out to two, very, very telling. What is interesting to me, though, is there was this common opponent in Notre-Dame. And I know duke played Notre-Dame about 6 weeks ago. Tech played them a couple of days ago. But duke was a 6 point favorite at Notre-Dame and we have Notre-Dame's home court worth about three and a half points. So you're looking at 9 and a half on a neutral. We just saw tech closed 6, 6 and a half on a neutral to Notre-Dame last round. Yet again, oddsmakers opened this tech minus one against duke. There is a stance being taken here. There's no doubt about that. There is oddsmakers really trusting some of the analytic minds and basketball. And that's how you arrive at a number that really is giving you no favors if you want to back tech. But I also get it because there is another side of this coin and that duke just has not looked good recently. You lose the finale at Cameron. You trail to an undermanned Syracuse team 78, 77 with three minutes to go. You sneak by Miami, although that looks like a better win now than it did at the time. You get pummeled by vo tech who got bounced in round one. You fail the cover against Fullerton, no matter how flukey the last second dunk was. You trail to a really bad version of Michigan state by 5 with four and a half minutes to go laying 7. And now we're here. Listen, if tech forces duke to be a jump shooting team, where they can't rely on their athleticism as much and you get a fair whistle and tech does enough offensively against a duke team. That's a 166th in adjusted defensive efficiency the last ten games. And text motion offense gives dukes some trouble. Then tech probably wins this game and they're advancing. But there are some hurdles that you certainly have to overcome. Are you confident that tech can make enough shots? I know obviously I'm asking the simple overriding question here because if we believed in text offense, then this game becomes a runaway. Bryson Williams, Kevin o'bannon, so much going to be expected them. Do we think do can solidify its defense or, hey, look, they've given us a full body of work. There's no reason to believe they can fix all that ails on the defensive end going into a game of this magnitude. I think it's tough. Obviously, you have the players that if they buy in, they can defend. If you look at their one on one defense, it's not bad. They have an ability to guard without fouling, which is something Texas tech does rely on getting to the free throw line. It just becomes what transpires here in the next four days preparing for this game. There's no reason to team that talent and talented can't defend. None whatsoever. And you see in moments where it's late in the Michigan state game, they're able to get some stops. They just don't have that intensity or will or want for the entire stretch of the game. And maybe now that these games are a little bit more impactful, we'll see that defensive effort. I had a conversation with Brad on Monday and he pointed out something that was very interesting. This is typically not a spot where duke has had success under coach K Owen 5 in the tournament playing on the West Coast. This game obviously is going to be played in San Francisco. Texas tech correct me if I'm wrong was just playing out in the West Coast. Last round. So there is some familiarity in San Diego in that last tick against Montana state in their win over Notre-Dame..

"Age. They had a Texas tech inch. Like, they're transfers were tougher, more chip, a little more athletic, a little more physical. And look, they had a color who was probably the best player on the court. They had Shannon who's just been play a ton of minutes. They had Santa silver who played and gave them a foundation. But the Texas tech guys, it could change in the game of Texas. They were they were just tougher than the Texas guys that are all good players, all those transfers are good players. I mean, Marcus car is a good player. Basically was a good player. Mitchell timbits was there, but they didn't have the toughness. I thought that game was one where there were more guys who could score for Texas tech Williams is really really, really good. A banner made big shots and they had an edge to them, where the Texas guys are good players, but they didn't have that same edge. And that's kind of what you were talking about with no one. I think that I think that coach Adams knew exactly what he was getting, where I think that Texas, they need to rebuild their whole roster. Chris brought all the best players. Yeah, no, I agree, but Chris brought all those guys in with the exception of a banner. He brought all those guys into Texas tax. So that he recruited that team. And Chris Williams came after Williams and Chris urn's career. Yeah, Bryson Williams. Okay, so two. But the other guys you're talking about were all there. So Chris beard in his career has always had new teams every year. Yeah. I mean, he's coached at every level of basketball. He's never had a team that he's brought back year to year. That's never happened. So when he goes to Texas, now I'm not saying he got everybody he wanted or all that stuff. But this is not an unusual thing for him to have a new team every year. Oh, no. From his ABA days in the South Carolina warriors, ABA junior college, you name it. He's always brought in new guys every year. He's always been into the transfer. He's always done that. So this is nothing new. It's not like it's like Cal Perry, you know, if you were to complain about one and done. I mean, he's been doing it forever. So but my point is, I dismiss the Texas tech game for Texas. The other games I don't. But Texas tech I do. Chris looked like he was being tortured to me. And he had a look on his face that he didn't want to be there and I'm not saying he didn't do his job or anything like that. But that was how uncomfortable that was, he couldn't bring his family. He wanted to bring his daughters and they told him not to bring his family. Yeah, but it filters to the players. And so I'm not surprised they didn't have as good as showing as they wanted. That was a fire pit that was, look, do what you want. I mean, if you want to boo a guy that built that program for you, go ahead and boom. That's a fan's prerogative. But it seemed a little nasty and Chris look really uncomfortable. I was. Well, I tell you one thing we missed a great opportunity though, because we interviewed the day before that we ran on our half times. And he didn't look great, but because I told him that, you know, one of the great things that's ever happened in my life is I was on fireside chat. That we would like and at some point, if he would, you know, maybe understand the value of old men on campus. And he answered that question with if we win tonight, I'll shake my head. And I'll have my whole staff shave their heads. So there might be something there. He said, you know what? Maybe he didn't want to lose the lettuce. So he, you know, maybe invest in the game..

"The best behind the defense. You can't argue that. No, I don't think you can. Listen, you're seeing it now, right? I mean, how good they've been has been a surprise to me to some degree, but the culture is still there. Like that's the thing that I think rob is the difference right now between Texas and Texas tech. Like Texas, there's no culture yet, right? There's still a bunch of guys that came over that honestly, hadn't won anywhere. Here they've won. So they still got, and like you said, the three star guys, even the second tier transfers, probably fit better. Like, Bryson Williams fits better here. I mean, listen, Rodney Terry coached him. And he didn't take him to Texas. So he gets better here than maybe a Marcus car, some of those other guys rob the Texas was able to relay that we thought were the elite level transfers, right? I just think that the toughness level between the two teams is diamond close. I mean, Texas, you watch them play. I don't trust them with any lead. They could be up 30 points, and it's like, well, this is not over. Whereas when you watch Texas tech go to Kansas and playing that, I know they lose, but I mean, they are tough, they compete, you go into an environment like that and I don't feel house. I mean it's culture is the word. I totally agree with Jeff and both of you guys. I just think it's fascinating that Mark Adams and Jeff, you need to tone to this. What did you think? Well, the higher when it was made? I didn't like it. I didn't like to hire because again, like you said, I didn't think he'd have the charisma to be able to recruit. Like I knew he could, their defense was based on him. But I thought at 60, what is the 65 now? He was 64 years old. I'm never a proponent of hiring a guy when there's in their mid 60s for the first job. I'm not. And I'm old. But I would say the biggest question I have was could he recruit a high level, but the transfer portal has changed to me. And you kept enough good players, although the craziest part of all this is like Shannon has been hurt. Mcculler has been hurt and hasn't been what we thought they'd be, right? Both those guys, he's doing it without them being anything close to a 100%. That's if Kyler Edwards has stayed. Cholera Edwards is balling at Houston. If he was still around, I mean, he's having a great year, but you're right. He's done a great job of keeping the main nucleus outside of Edwards intact, brand tarantula that fit, and they just guard their ass off. They're a joy to watch. I love watching Texas tech, but I can't say the same about the text long ones. So what was it like last night here? I mean, it was awesome. You guys are hungry. So I was going to bring some beer, but you know, I can't even do that with freshman raw. Providing for minors. But I don't need that. We don't need that in my resume. What was it like last night? It was so high level donor hold up in that they whatever that is. Yeah, that was crazy. Charlie, I think you organize all the stuff that's here today. But it began to camp out with us. Had football coach came about tacos and the whole team can not give up. And we had a four star crew. I decided to do that. Yeah. The need for useless game. That's pretty good, right? We've been fooled this entire topic. There's actually a GoFundMe. That's all right. And I gave a hundred bucks to me. $13,000. Thank you for your dash. You know, I beat your chest, Jeff. Hundred bucks, baby. I give a hundred bucks to it. Why not? Listen. If we have been students now, again, home or you were too cool for this kid. I mean, you were done that on the team. You want to give a heart? Do you want to give it a hundred bucks? I didn't even know there was one. Yeah, I'm gonna send you the link. I'm gonna send you a link. You can help me. You can give 200. I know what you make. Okay. Okay. Graduate here. Wow. How about that? So we give 6000 homework. Can you beat that? I don't know. I don't know if I got that kind of course. He probably would. But that's the stack. I don't think it's happened, right? I know. We got somebody else coming in the tent now. This is our friend. How you doing? You want to come on a podcast? Sure. What are you bringing? Chick-fil-A? Where's it from? All right. Rolls college. Cool. What's your name? Yes. Leah, all right, you got to speak up later. So hold on. Leah, how are you? Before you before you start, I want to ask you, what do you think of Chris beard? See, I like that swab, but I'm not really into the. I don't know details, so I just kind of go with these two boys say. We know what they say about Chris. What are you going to the game? So when he comes out, what do you think you're going to do when you first see him come out on the floor? Do you think you're going to hear you think you're going to boo? You think you're going to yell all sorts of bad shit out of them? What do you think you need to do? I don't think it'll be good. What percentage of the people in there do you think are going to cheer for Chris beard tomorrow? Less than 1%. Wow. I think that's hot. I think it'll be zero. I really do. Are you guys scared of what is going to happen? I've seen some bad stuff happen in arenas when this. And that's the one thing I don't want to see. Right. Right. It's herbal. Yep. We're obviously. That's going to happen. You hear that problem? The physical they do not conduct. You got to keep it. Rob rob got one of your verbal back in the day. I don't know if you know rob rob's almost 40 now. So come on, I'm not looking for you. That's a lot. He's 32. He's a star for him. He's an all American NBA. And he had two 20. Literally pretty would have won the whole thing if he had stayed healthy. They would have won the national title. And so people should be yelled at him when he came back from the second turn ACL. Here we go to Indiana. What would they yell up? Well, they were the whole arena was standing in ACL, which, you know, is like, whatever. The worst is at Michigan state. She can stay with these kids were young. They hope I blew my knee out again. So, Mike, actually, my coch heard it. He was yelling back at him. We're losing about like 30. So I'm sure talking there's always thrilled that in his postgame they were talking about two students that were yelling at that stuff and not about their win. But yeah, I agree with you guys. As long as it's not like, as long as it's not physical and it's just saying stuff is fair game. Rob, can we get you on a little tour of the tent? Yeah, please. The cribs. Cribs and whatever greater vote. This person Ted rob. It's a 6 person ten. Is there anything in here that can not be filmed? Before I show anybody you're good? All right. With homo with his apartment, I had to be careful. Years ago, I went and only because our furniture was so embarrassing. We didn't have any money. It was a dome. You know, we just cleaned it. They cleaned it. Look at this. So we got, can you see this rough? I see the entrance. Yep, snacks. Doritos. Cupcakes? A basketball, some cupcakes. We got some hand warmers in that Walmart. And the Walmart factors from him weren't. Okay. One, two, how many beds? What do you got here? So you're gonna fit. We do rotation. So not everyone spends a night. So there's two people in here at once. Probably about three or four. Three or four people in here. What's the what's the temperature going to be tonight? It gets cold at night. Right? Shit. I mean, it's beautiful right now, but it's down in the 20s, right? 25, rob. They tougher than you. You would have made a ten minute no. You guys, what do you guys do for heat? Is there like a you guys got a heater? No heater. So we actually from the are you allowed to do? We got space. We had the second year..

"And the reason is, this is part of their emergence has been. They needed a dude who can kind of get buckets to them. They can get stuck sometimes on the offensive end. And Bryson Williams has been absolutely terrific. They lost against Kansas in a close one, but he went for 33 6 8 240 pounds transferred from Fresno state and that dude, man, he's made a huge difference on the offensive end for Texas tech. I'm going to go with the Boise state Broncos. Who doesn't love lots of lettuce? There we go. The Boise state Bronco is coached by Leon rice, who is a former Gonzaga system was with Mark few for a really long time. So Boise state who plays in the Taco Bell arena, my favorite name is because I spent my youth at Taco Bell. My brother had a job there when I was a kid. And the place got robbed while he was working there, so he'd stop working there, which was a profound disappointment for me. But Boise state, they've won 12 in a row. They are wonderful to watch offensively. They're a lot, you know, they have some similarities to against Aga and to Arizona and some of the stuff that they run the way they run it. Marcus shavers probably their best player. And they've got a manual acot that transferred in there. They're legit. They're very, very good. And I think they're an NCAA tournament team that is undervalued out there. And they're old. That's an old team. And freshman freshman from Spokane is really good. And Leon rice has got to be in the top ten of funniest coaches in basketball, not just colleagues at all. When I was playing with Leon in a golf tournament in Spokane at Gonzaga event, and this back went Judd heathcote was living because he lived in Spokane. And we saw him and Leon says, hey, coach, how you doing? And he says, he says not good, Leon, I was, you know, I fell down the other day and he said I was putting my club by finish the first hole. I made a par, and I'm going back to the cart and I went to put my club in the back back of the card in my bag and I missed the bag and I fell forward, face first on the pavement. And he started going, Judd couldn't start going into all the injuries he had from it. And as soon as he finished, you know, that long list of maladies he had from his fall, Leon said, well, how the second hold.

"Last two years in Miami. And we had a veteran crew. And so I'm just for sure, Patreon is going to put us on the line and make us run. Used to send us over to the bikes. And I thought it was going to be easy. It was dreadful. Because you had to get the heart rate up to 41 50 because he used to do all these strange calculations to find out which in max heart rate was and all of that stuff. I think I would have preferred to run instead of being a real place. Well, hey, that's going to be a great game. Bail are Alabama's going to be great. But we got into a little segment. Taylor, can you kind of describe our new segment? Uh oh. All right, boys, well, we've been kicking something around and Seth you love the phrase lettuce, and it's not that I have any, but I love lettuce. It's a very funny, funny turn of phrase to describe someone's hair. So because this is a follicle related podcast here. Careful, we're multi. We're both that platform now. It's fair. It's fair. So every week, about every week we're going to do something. We need a noodle name here, but we are going to identify who has lettuce or who is losing it or whose lettuce is wilting, who has no lettuce at all. You guys gonna bring to the table a coach a team of player to fall into one of those categories. And if they've got lettuce, we're gonna hear this sound. Who doesn't love lots of lettuce? And if they don't have it, most important thing to take a look at is the status of your lettuce. And as you can see here, it doesn't look too nice underneath. Doesn't look too nice underneath. That's what you guys were probably looking at. I know that feeling, Taylor. Yeah. So don't be triggered when I play that sound, it is for the people you're talking about. So without further ado, please. All right, fine. Who's got lettuce in your mind? Who's got a good handle lettuce? I'm gonna go off the board a little bit and go with the player. Texas Tex Bryson Williams. I know they even land at Kansas..

We had to return to the gate that leg well why can't you just stay in your seat pairs? This is the third time you've done this in the past four seasons. Baby, when I get in my seat, trust me, I ain't moving. I settle in, good, but we had a disturbance in the back of the plane. It was so far behind me because I was so close to the front that I couldn't really tell exactly what was going on. But we had a character in the back and it appears that he said something that caused concern or did something that caused concern, so they escorted him off of the plane. We had to return to the gate. We were about to take off. We had to return to the gate and then they had to do a bunch of paperwork. And that took forever. And my point is, I was about two hours late getting to New York. But still got to watch the Kansas Texas tech. Well, there you go. Thank God for double overtime. A baji with a big time shot to send it to the second overtime period. He finished with 37 points looking like an obvious all American, obvious first round pick, perhaps a national player of the year. So that was Monday night's big game. Tuesday night, offer barely got past Missouri. Duke barely got past Clemson, Kentucky needed overtime to get past Mississippi. In Illinois, as you noted earlier, beat Michigan state without Kofi coburn and Andre Capello. What stands out from that or anything else that happened over the past couple days? I'll do a chronologically and just talk real quick on Kansas because that was a really nice win. Texas tech is now one in 21 all time at Allen fieldhouse. The one win came a few years ago and early January coincidentally enough my brother was at that game and he did it on a whim. He was driving across the country and literally day of, he found himself in Lawrence and got tickets off of wherever. I was like, yeah, go, you should enjoy Texas tech is good, but Kansas is going to win, so enjoy. And then, sure enough. Kansas does not win that game. It's the only time TT has been able to win that building almost got it done in that one. Bryson Williams had 33. I think that was the most by an opponent in that building since buddy healed had that huge, huge performance, 40 plus and triple over time, what 5, four, 5 seasons ago now. But Texas tech man, what a team. All right, guys, I'm really, really good job there. And almost pulled it off. Remember, this was a return game. Texas tech would have had its first ever regular season sweep of Kansas if it had been able to do this. It couldn't, what do you want from Kansas? 17 and two, one seed caliber right now as far as I'm concerned. Continues to look good. And my question for you off the top of that bald dome of yours is O chai bhaji, your national player of the year FrontRunner as of the morning of January 26th. I honestly haven't put enough thought in it to say that definitively, like to create a headline, but he's obviously got to be yeah. I mean, he's now averaging 21.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, shooting 47% from three. Yes. I mean, like 6.52 47% of three, good athlete, great body. Like, that's how that's how you end up with a lottery pick. If you remember, and I know you do because you got a great memory. We read champions classic Madison Square Garden. Yes. Start the season. And afterward, somebody asked, you know, how close were you to staying in the NBA draft? He was like very close. Very close. But I was told by enough NBA people that I need to come back to school and work on AB and C and so that's what I decided to do. And every borderline NBA prospect who's ever returned to school after exploring the NBA, says that. They all say I came back to school to get better at AB and C this dude really did do exactly what they told him to do. Come back, be more aggressive. Become a better three point shooter. And he is all of those things. We talked about it early in the year. What seemed to have indicate that this early season jump was real and sustainable was because he was taken 14, 15, 16 shots a game, like he wasn't he was gonna go be aggressive, get shots, and be the best player on a team. That also features the preseason big 12 player of the year. Don't ever forget that. You might be the best player in the country right now. He wasn't supposed to be the best player on his team. That's how big of a jump he's taken from last season to this and it's been fun to watch. Hidden Kansas City every Tuesday with ceram Petro who's terrific. And so we spent a lot of time talking about Kansas basketball. And we often get into these conversations. Like, so are we concerned about this? Are we concerned about that? And every time I'm compelled to point out, Kansas is 17 and two, you know? They've got probably at least two NBA players in ota and Christian Brown. They've got other guy. Here's the interesting thing about Kansas among the interesting things. Like a badge is going big every night. Christian brown's pretty reliable. But then they've got other guys that can go off at any time. Ruby Martin, good like poppy for 25. David McCormack has had these 1515 games. Jalen Wilson can have a big game. Like they got at least 5 guys that can have like the game of the night in college basketball. Reasonably. And that's going to make cans tough to deal with. Throughout the rest of this pic 12, schedule and obviously in the instantly tournament, defensively still not where they need to be 49th and adjusted defensive efficiency according to Ken palm, but top 5 at offensive efficiency. They've got a slew of really, really good players. They've got legitimate NBA talent. They've got a Hall of Fame coach. You know, they've been a number one seat in 8 of the past 14 NCAA tournaments. And right now, you would think that's going to extend a 9 and 15. I think I'd have a baji right there with Oscar sheet Blake. We'll get to in just a second. Johnny Davis at Wisconsin, drew Timmy summers are still pretty respectable. So that's probably my top it's crowded though. There's more, but off the top of my head..

"I was really pleased with him because in money time he was down in the postman. He was born. He's really wanting to ball. And it was interesting to point at this earlier on that very last possession. I thought he did what many freshmen would do. I thought he deferred because I could see that coach Kate wanted him to get it and I remember him pulling over the window basically you take it. And initially, I didn't know how to read that one. I thought maybe he was thinking about half court and had window get it back to him, but he never went over his direction. So as I look at that, is I do feel that that's a growing moment for him, a growth moment for him too, is you're the best player on that team. We need you to take the we need you to take that last shot. And to your point, Jay, another team that I've been impressed with is Texas tech. For the same reason, they were playing without Kevin McCullough, arguably their best player here at tan Shannon. And they're just kicking every that just can't get everybody's but we know their defense is really good. They've had some key contributions from two guys and I think it's going to expand their depth. I still think they'll struggle to score it a little bit, but I do think those two guys being out has allowed some other guys like Bryson Williams. Who while those guys were out were really starting to play well, I think he had 20 points in the last 5 games. He's had two 20 point outings. And I think that's just going to help them. Be deeper, which is going to make them a tougher out Nancy term. Yeah. You know another guy that's really impressed me is that doesn't get the publicity for his Julian's father of Gonzaga. Dude is good. He's not Gary rebounds his position. He's got size. He can shoot it and drive it, good passer. He's one of the more underrated players. I've seen this year. He's kind of like Corey at one. I mean, he's doing a lot of those things that kiss for dad. He's not kiss for yet, obviously, but he's going to develop into it and he can really guard. All right, we'll finish up with these two teams. Oregon, they go in back to back top 5 wins on the road played, to be honest with Dana, talk to I literally talked right before the UCLA game. And he said, I've changed everything. He said, I'm going dribble handoff, dribble handoff, open up the floor, keeping those big eyes. We had him handle in the ball. They can't handle the ball. I was stubborn. Our best players are kind of downhill drivers and guys that can make plays. He said, you're going to see us do a bunch of dribble handoff and maybe every once in a while bring one of those guys up for a ball screen. He said, but we're going to keep those guys around the basket. And all of a sudden, well, Richardson in the last 5 games is like 70 points shooting the hell out of it. And those big guys now are playing off penetration. Every once in a while, get in a role, maybe catching on the baseline and make it a quick play. I've been, I've been really, really impressed with, you know, Dana's like he's like a mad scientist. I mean, he just he figures it out. And then I thought we all know that game was just a yes. A high level game, well coached really hard played, had a physicality to it, but it had a flow to it. And I thought the post action, the two things a blue moon, not getting the post action, late in a game with Trevor and Williams and hunter getting back screen for for those layups and that boss. And then that back screen dribble hand off stuff they did with Sasha stefanik. That stuff, they just run Purdue runs high level offense. And they execute the hell out of it. That game blew me away. I think they're the best team. I think they're the best. But the one thing they have to do a better job of is finishing out games. Like if you're looking at the Purdue perspective, that should not have gone to overtime. They should have won that game in regulation. And because they had it right there. And that's been true of their Rutgers game. I think they need to close out some games a little bit better. And I think they will, but they've got they've got everything. And Matt painter is one of the elite coaches in the game. You know, I'm a huge fan of them. And I think they're going to continue to get better. But a couple of things really kind of blew me away with Illinois. One is having Andre back, makes them a legit contender. He's a difference maker. And then Alfonso plummer transferred in. He's got the right name because that left handed plumber finds drano a lot. Yes. Do we need to be my concern with MJ and it's been obvious. And it makes sense, obviously, copy COVID and just want me to do top 5 and scoring in the country. Top 5 and rebounding. But when he goes out of the game, they change dramatically. And that would be my one concern about them in the NCAA tournament. Unlike Purdue, of course, Zack idi gets in final trouble. Just bring in an all American and trivia Williams. They don't Illinois doesn't have that luxury. And so that's my main concern for them. They're definitely a second weekend team. And I want to say that their elite 18, but that lack of depth at the center position. Just someone who can maybe block shots and scream and get on the offensive last would be helpful and they don't have that guy. That's my main thing. So they can play those three guards together. I tell you what Karbala is playing with plumber and Trent Frazier and they can even slide the Monte Williams to four because he's that dude is tough. Agree. Those are three guard. I mean, Trent phrases, he's knocking down. Carbello played with such, I guess the word is joy. Carbello just you could see he was healthy and felt good about himself and I mean, how about the look away pass he look away bouncing? What defines his point? I mean, can you believe Brad Underwood didn't recruit two Kofi coburns? I mean, what a schlep? Why do you think of that? Absolutely unacceptable. He's not bald, so we shouldn't expect that to be. Well, when we reconvened, we will have a winner of the Kentucky auburn game, which will be one of the great games of the basically the preseason end of people pay attention, not only can you see bald men on campus, the television show on the ACC, but college game day, I think we're going to have a little breakdown of that auburn, Kentucky match up and spend the most time talking about that. Getting deeper into the weeds. So I think that'll be a lot of fun. Hey Seth, how much would a statue of you at fairly Dickinson cost? If you'd like to make a contribution we're collecting them right now. Hey, I saw Bella's Jersey hanging camera. I hung it up there. It was skin case bathroom, but I mean it's all right. At my own private ceremony, I broke the window. I had a Jade villa's cookie. I love it. We went to Cameron at one time at Wendy brought us, so much like me as a player. It crumbled easily. It was absolutely, by the way, just how much that was one of the best cookies I've ever had. I've really, really large. Yes, college game day this week we're from Bristol, Jay, you're gonna be in Syracuse, right? Yeah, I'll be there. Yeah, I'll be in Durham for that. And.

"You're not wrong, man. It's insane. I feel like you find out whether you get to live or die on death row more quickly than you can find out. I think the lesson is if you're on death row, you'd actually prefer to have the NCA ruling over your case here, because they might just take forever. I'll just take that deal instead. You just die of old age at 89. You take that trade off instantly there. So we're waiting on that, although, by the way, you know, of course, Kansas waiting. But Kansas, I don't expect with the IAR P, I don't expect Kansas to have a ruling before the end of the season. Oklahoma state, I very, very much do. So I put OSU there and in Texas tech right below, we'll see how Mark Adams is going to do GP. He was the face of the defense. You know, I made this comparison in my one to three 58, although Chris beard and Mark Adams got along much better than Mike Ditka buddy Ryan did on the 85 bears. You're damn right, I'm invoking a bear's reference here. But whereas buddy Ryan was in charge of solely the defense on that bears team, and that's what made the Chicago Bears of the mid 80s so great. Adams was similar with the way that he approached Texas tech's defensive unit and he had a lot to do with how great Texas tech was. It wasn't all Chris beard. They get Terence Shan junior back. That's big. Kevin McCullough back. That's another double digit score. Marco Santo Silva. He was really a top 20 rebounder in America when you look at the rebound rates from last season. So they're back. They lost some key pieces, but they bring in Kevin o' banner from oral Roberts, who was an 18 and 9 guy and because max a Smith led the nation scoring and was a big time points producer. Oh, by the way, a banner shot 46% from three as a stretch forward and he was an 87.5% foul shooter. So you got him, Bryson Williams from Utah, 15 and 7 guy. Malik Wilson from Louisiana, averaged 13 points, 5 and a half boards, three assists, and two steels. So there's actually dudes on this roster. You're going to probably wind up being closer than I am on this because I got Texas tech right around that 40 range. They're probably going to outperform where I've gotten, but I just want to see what they do with the new coach there. So I got those two schools ahead of the likes of West Virginia and Oklahoma. Yeah, like, you know, they lose some pieces like you said, two of the top four that's Matt mcluhan and Tyler Edwards, they also lose Chris beard. They've got a new coach. I believe Mark Adam's gonna be able to do this job well. But you know, like I've said about other assistant coaches who are promoted. You know, you never know for sure. But I'm optimistic. That's why I have them finishing fourth in the big 12. So they return for the top 6. And when you've got a core of Terrence Shannon Kevin McCullough, Marcus Santa Silva and Kevin banner, that's a pretty good core for a college basketball team and a banner. It wasn't just like empty stats, either. Yeah, he was 19. He was 18.7 points 9.6 rebounds per game for the season. He put 30 on Ohio State in a win in the insulator. He put 28 on Florida in the NCA tournament. And that 46.3 sometimes he's three point percentages for frontcourt players can be misleading because it's like, oh, we made 46% of one per game. He took 4.3 per game. He's a real shooter. And that free throw percentage underlines it. So I like this Texas tech team. I'm torn between Oklahoma state Texas tech four 5, but to me, it is clearly those two four 5 and then we can start talking about everybody else. Yeah, a final tool nibble on here as we get out is West Virginia, Oklahoma. I think they're basically interchangeable. Huggin centers what's going to be as 40th season with 900 wins to his name. He's got cash Sherman and Sean McNeil. They'll probably combine for like 28, 29 a game. They're the one two there. Good. Jalen bridges needs to be a breakout player as a sophomore. We'll see Oklahoma with Porter Moser. He was the hot name. Multiple times, and this is where he lands. He keeps the emoji Gibson Elijah harkless on the roster, which is what I think will put the sooners in the tournament conversation right near the bubble cut line, getting those guys back was huge. Also got the groves brothers. Remember Tanner was the lovable big dude who almost helped knock out Kansas in the first round. He was the big guy player of the year, 17 and 8 guy. Scottish younger brother Jacob there. They also bring in duke transfer Jordan goldwire, who I think will just help stiffen up the defense. Moser had a way of really developing a very, very good defensive unit at the mid major level. I think Oklahoma, if it's going to be a tournament team, it's got to be a top four defense in the big 12 and year one. I think they'll have a good chance. But because you got a coaching change in there and not quite as much roster continuity, I'll go WVU at 6 Oklahoma at 7. Yeah, that's right. I'm gonna trust bob Hawkins. When they had deuce McBride on the fence for a little while, is he staying? Is he going? I think I always had it projected in the top 25 and one. Or at least at some point before he officially announced I projected. That he was going to go. And he went. And that's a big blow. I think West Virginia with him back is preseason top 25. And West Virginia without him back is probably, you know, at least on paper at best, 6th in the big 12. Now, it doesn't mean you can't be in the instability tournament, but losing a player of that caliber who is very much a could stay could reasonably stay could reasonably go. The reason I frame it phrase it like that is because, you know, like what Kate Cunningham, there is no choice. You know, it's not like he can reasonably stay your go..

And in my opinion i just wanted to live at his position. And i think he can make a case for it and to me. It's tragic more. We talked about this many times. There's one player in the history of the damn game that is not the back passing titles in two decades in the seventies eighties with two different coordinators. Two different sets of players who different sets of circumstances and when he went back to back. You know in that second one. That's when the team was you know and the two year stretch went twelve and four and seven and two kenya anderson's in the hall of fame. There's one player. Now there's four other guys there's only five guys that have won four passi titles but to win back to back in two different decades in be the only one to do it. Come on man. That's a travesty up. A rope can you do their whole different place recently. as we mentioned read shakespeare the world stage by bill bryson william shakespeare burgundy and one of the things that really interested us about it was like the amazing collection of words and expressions that shakespeare came up with that are still widely used today and peter. I think it's safe to say that you were kind of inspired by it. And you challenge us to come up with words or expressions over own for this episode I three but not. Because i was like on a road side. You know if the first one was good. I didn't know what was good. And then they're awesome. Well let's not play the we'll see about that i. It's not easy to come up with words. it's not it's too easy to like. This is what i discovered right. I was just thinking of like to conduct two things blending them together and thinking of wet so So there's a word for running what happens fewer to run really fast. We could go like kim joing. Do you want to go. Can joing on. The weekend was running. But just fast sprints and just go for a fast run or you just real fast for mile. Yeah you do that for about half an hour and then you go now leave. Yeah like 'cause it just with to use to like having this palette and we're not like and using word so well we don't think about just adding things to the palate. It's very we think. So before you reveal your words speeder then explain what they mean or how they're going to be used in and like we'll see if it makes sense at all. How confident are you in your words. How how confident are you that they'll you know become regular words that we use this one that i'm i think has a possible Very small possibility. Because i think ever knows what it is whereas the other who are a little bit more niche before i just want to say no one thought like i've For the struggle of creating a new way knowing that that's definitely acute pain you get when trying to create something. are you. words. Like new words or because mine. I think it's a cheating. But mine is a portmanteau. Like i'm mixed up a couple of words. Great to describe something that. I didn't have a word to describe. But it's not like a new word you've never. You can't come up with yourself. If you know what i mean. I think okay. I think they're all kind of like that. Yeah well. I can't wait to tell us what the are i'll start with my first one. This is i think the most likely to be adopted by the general public because everyone con is what it is. But you know when you're describing something to someone and like you can go on for awhile. I'm used to this on the podcast and some and is trying to either signal that the internet hasn't cut out or in real life. They sorta like nodding along. Yeah yep okay well. I'll call vat jacking so to jap is to contribute sounds of agreement whilst another pessina speaking. So they're not sort of yes. I agree with that. They're more sort of yep Yeah i like that. The kind of things you'd say just to signal that you haven't fallen asleep with your is kind of Trying to to affirm that the conversation is still going without taking the stage without reverting attention. Yeah gyping yeah yeah. J. e. p. is the word so you add to as you know Gyping if you're putting in thing so any was gyping as bill explain. The situation is the example sentence. Actually like that. Where where why gyp word you come up with well so the full process was. I needed to be quick. Because what you're doing sort of quick it couldn't be like Quint housing no or anything like it because it feels like jet is like the right thing. 'cause you're not contributing much yeah and i went Soft con of lettuce like jay and pay like. I didn't want to go to fancy or anything. That and also it's very hard to think of a one syllable thing that hasn't been said sir. No but you're totally right. It had to be a one syllable kind of short yes ulli gyping felt like you know when you say something and it doesn't feel like gyping deaf. I dunno if what word jinping but it definitely felt like a scam jess one. Yeah and i think yeah. 'cause 'cause we say gypped australia's if you bought something like a an original picasso. Avian free shipping and it was like a two thousand dollars. You probably got gypped. Massery and like jiaping is definitely not what i'm going for. Jiaping fields like definitely more of a normative solution to the problem and jumping job. Just didn't sound right. Said jet sounded. Maybe jop is a bit too cute. I like it. it's job but yeah gyping. Yeah so. That's how i got..
