"But you don't need it. But you want a beer. What if you don't matter? But are you trying to send a message that I'm here on business? Sure. Okay. You're gonna pay me millions of dollars. The last thing I want is you to think, oh, you're gonna have a beer with me or two, how many are you having when you're not with me? No. And even if Frank Craig, okay, I'll let you behind the scenes of the espys many, many years ago. Bill Murray's hosting, he had a bunch of writers with him. Guys, I think, worked with him at Saturday Night Live. Somebody pulls out a joint and starts to pass it around to everybody there. And all of a sudden, it comes to my boss. And then he passes it to me. He doesn't take a hit of it. Now I'm not sure what to do in this situation. And so I had to pass the duchy to the left hand side here. And then the next time around, I thought, you know what? I have this opportunity in this moment with these guys and Bill Murray and their writing things for the espys. I'm going to have to do this for medicinal purposes. So I'm next to my boss and I turned past it and I thought, all right, let me just take a little hit off of this. And passed it down. But I was there with my boss, a little bit different, but I wanted to make sure if he was going to, then I definitely was going to. But then I thought, John's not taking a hit. Would anybody have a drink if they went out with the possibility of this team drafting you? Pauly, I would. If I saw the other people at the table having a drink and I'm going back to my hotel and I'm not driving, I would have one. You can't. I'm a grown man. I'm not gonna fake it for you. And let the chips fall. You need a beer there. Just because they're having it? Oh, if they jump off a cliff, are you gonna jump off a cliff? See, all of a sudden, I start asking you questions about yourself if you have a beer. Yes. When you're 21, you're still enjoying the novelty of being able to go out and order a beer with the adults. You don't need a beer. You know what I mean? You might want one. I would just be like, no, I'm on a diet. I'm just training. But when you're 21 years old, you're not like, man, long day of work. You know what I mean? This whole draft process is stressful, man. I'd like to have a beard. That is getting a cold one. Can I get a shot of pappy van winkle too? I think I'm going to need that. Take the edge off here. You're still kind of tickled about taking out your ID and being like, that's right, I can. Yes. Okay, part two of the question. You're looking at the menu, it's a steakhouse. The most expensive steak on the menu, let's say it's $65 and it's a marbled T bone blow it up. Would you order the most expensive steak on the menu or would you think it through and be moderate? I would not order the most expensive thing on the menu. What if that's what you really want? If I wanted a beer, would I have a beer? Yeah, but these organizations, NFL, billions of dollars, I can't pick the $58 down to $67 there? You don't think that they're reading into this? I definitely agree that you don't have a drink. And I wouldn't have dessert either always going to get fat. He wants a piece of chocolate. What if you really want to? What if you want dessert? You got to draw the line somewhere. But the difference in price of steaks with the rib eye is 58. This one's 66. No, no, no. That's not the point. You want you want some, they're going to read into what you're ordering. Yes. You know where I'm squeezing them for every dollar. My contract. Not on a steak. Steak, are you, man? I'll get the New York strip for $34. No problem, but then when it comes time to contract, I want the 34 mil, not the 30. All right, what else falling? Last one. What if you ordered a more sophisticated drink like, could I see the wine menu and you ordered a nice glass of wine that was like to go with your steak or I thought that maybe show some background education, diversity? No, you could still be an alcoholic. I get doesn't matter if you're AI order high end wine. I don't have a drinking problem. Yes. Can you get an appetizer? Can you get a side dish or you're taking advantage if you want some mashed potatoes on the side or something? You want a little Caesar salad. Okay, all right, you got slapped down with the steak. A little lobster. Here we go. I'm gonna have the second with third most expensive steak. I'm getting the lobster bisque. And NFL team. They can take care of my appetizer in my steak. There are three seed, but they feel like they're Cinderella story beating Michigan state in overtime. This is why we watch March Madness. Because you think you know what's going to happen or you hope what's going to happen, but it never goes as scripted. Yukon rolls Arkansas Gonzaga gets by UCLA, Florida Atlantic comes back, beach Tennessee. So tonight, San Diego state against Alabama, San Diego state, getting 7 and a half, Miami, getting 7 and a half against Houston. Princeton getting ten versus creighton and Xavier getting four and a half against Texas. There'll be a game tonight, maybe two, maybe all of them, where we go, wow. And last night, you had the wow factor. You had more keys Noel, rolls his ankle, plays in the second half as 19 assists at the all time record. I think was that Mark wade and UNLV? Yes, I think he had 18. For some reason, Greg Anthony might be up there as well for all time assist, but it was fun last night. Florida Atlantic I mean, that wasn't an exciting game. Florida Atlantic just kind of realized Tennessee is good at defense. Can we solve that? Because they're not very good at offense and Florida Atlantic. Here we have another 9 seater lower to advance to the elite 8. Let's see. Marquise Noel, so far, he has 64 points, 42 assists, 11 steals. There have been 5 players in the last 30 years to have at least those numbers in a single tournament, TJ Ford, Andre Miller, Bobby Hurley, and Greg Anthony, of UNLV. The day started the day here comes that what stat of the day. Some of the other news, pro day yesterday, Bryce young and if you wanted to have at least a decision to make, I think Carolina has that now. By all accounts, Bryce young put on a great display. It still comes back to and I was told by a scout this morning, I don't care how tall he is or isn't. I care how big he is. And he didn't want to get weighed. He refused to get weighed yesterday, which I found interesting because I think he's going to be playing it maybe a buck 90 to start his career. He was what two O four at the combine, but you can load up to get to two O four. I think that these teams have to realize that rice young is going to he's always going to be 5 ten and he's probably going to be one night. He's not built the way Russell Wilson is. He's not built the way Kyler Murray is. They're built with football and baseball bodies. Bryce young is slight. But what they love about him is a sense of anticipation. He's very bright and now this is from the scout. He releases a pie. Which is obviously great. But he might be a Doug flutie type because flutie flutie came along at the wrong time. He did win the Heisman, but Doug flew in today's college football or NFL landscape would be highly thought of. He was just a great athlete playing quarterback. But we got caught up in how tall he was, or was it? And flute he never really got a great chance to play. Bryce young is going to get a chance and he's going to go in the top 5. But CJ Stroud still feels like he's the guy because if you're going to check the boxes, CJ Stroud and Bryce young, deuce sort of the same things, maybe Bryce is a better athlete, but CJ Stroud as the scout said, I watched him, but I also watched the game against Georgia. And I'll take more out of

"Even send him on through. It's pitiful what that guy was trying to say, bob. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. But hey, listen to me. I just want a couple things and I'll hang up. I want you to call me after I do hang up at the culture and Knox while I was there Saturday. The way that they set that game up with the men and women screaming over in Thompson bowling, the field, the culture, the brand of Tennessee football's back without a doubt. Paul, you've seen some pretty things in your life, I've seen some wonderful things. I remember the day my wife came down the aisle. I remember when my children were born, it wasn't Nick Saban completely out of control after that punt was one of the pretty good things I've ever seen in my life. I got something for legend too. You know, they're gonna have excuses on penalties that wasn't called or penalties that was called against Alabama at the end of the day, Paul, you and I both know. We put over 50 points on the best supposed to be best defense in the nation over 600 yards or right at 600 yards of offense. We had more scores on Alabama than a millionaire at the bunny ranch brother. I'm here to tell you right now, Eric gray, Juan yate Morris, then boys. They're crime. Tears, tears right now that they left Tennessee. Legend would save all this is Houston from big orange country and I'm out. Thank you very much. Andre is up next. Good afternoon, Andre. I was wondering when to cope. He was. I mean, we're free. I just wanted to ask you something. You know, just between Friends, coach. Did you did you go in your club and sing rocket cop Saturday night? I laid out the stogie. What can I tell you? What did it look, man? Anyway, let's get on down the fence. I think that LSU might have turned a corner and maybe Brian Kelly got this thing going in the right direction. It was really a problem. That was a shaky game going in. I felt like LSU could do it. And they absolutely had to do it. And you know how important that game is and I'm just trying to think what happened to Florida because I distinctly remember about 5 weeks ago, everybody telling me about Florida was a juggernaut, what's your thing about unless you and all this? Not ready to make a call yet, but I think LSU has a pretty good shot. I mean, that's all miss is very good, but they have, they have deficiencies. But they got some warriors that tail back, look. I washed the code down washed it Alabama, Tennessee game, and man, that just stole the heaven weight. Sometimes you're not going to win. That's just the way it goes. Because the guy had to hit the field goal. It would have been over Alabama with a warrant. Alabama, you know, they'll be back if you follow recruiting that number one right now. I think jealous you might be 6 or 7. But they'll be fine. I mean, Alabama got some warriors Tennessee, got some white. It was a great game. Now, the one thing I will admit, I don't have a dog in the fight. Man, they miss them vicious calls against a young against the Alabama court. Let's cut to the chase. I mean, they officiating was embarrassing. It was a man, some of the stuff they missed. But hey man, hey. Tennessee one and congratulations to him. I ain't got no dog in the fight. It was a good game and I look forward to them playing Georgian and then we'll really see where they match up and hey, let's take my call. Thank you, I'm great. Mister Val from Knoxville, where else would he be from? Hi there, Paul. Thank how many more. Thank you so many more touchdowns of the leading husband trophy winner for this best receiver in the game. That's a really good point to make. And we have a starting left tackle out. And I don't think anybody got to hand in hooker all day. That was definitely one of the distinct differences, Bryce young, on the worst possible day for him to be running for his life. His banged up as he was, was always running and Hinton hooker had time. And when he didn't, he made the most out of it. Very true and of course we had Warren barrel out. He's been out since the overtime, our best cornerback. We had Jalen McCullough out the defensive captain, and we were still able to stop by him, I wanted matters. He wanted to talk about all the people that Tennessee could have had in the game. It could have been a lot bigger win for the vols and than it was, but you asked quite wrong at Alabama. I don't think there's ever been a game in which Alabama has been penalized more yards than they had in rushing. And that's what happens Saturday. Well, sad, good to hear from you. Brian is up next from Tennessee. Hey, Brian. How about the ball? Brow and first of all, I believe this is correct. I met your parents on Friday. That is very true. I was about to say that I appreciate you taking a picture of my mom. It's pretty cool. They got to fit you. I thought they were both great. And they are proud of you. Thank you. The first thing I'd like to say is Paul, what happened? I thought Tennessee wasn't supposed to beat babe. Like, you told me before the solo season. Well, you shouldn't have listened to me. Secondly, I never listened to a pundit a couple of months out. I did not think there was any chance back in the off season, that changed, obviously, by kick-off, but I saw I saw what was happening in Knoxville. You were right. You called it way back when. Yeah, fair enough. Secondly, I'd like to say that that win. I cried like a baby all night long after that. That win was, you know, that's the first one I've ever seen. It's been in my lifetime, and that was a really special to me. Well, there are a lot of people probably who never thought they'd see that again. So you're a rather fortunate young guy, but give your parents my best. I certainly had a great time talking to them. Let's continue with more phone calls. And what about Scott in Alabama? Hey, Scott. Hey, Paul, how are you doing today? We are doing great. Thank you. I hate to be the black sheep of Alabama fan, but I am. I'm a graduate from the university and I'm here to say congratulations, Tennessee. You out playing us out coached us and the biggest surprise of this football season, I believe, is that this was our first loss. This is our third game, where we had over a hundred penalty yards, or there was definitely some questionable calls from the offense from the defense, Tom management like Daryl brought up in the first hour. And I'm thankful that we're bob and one right now instead of four and three, it could take a definitely be it can definitely be worse. But you're saying you're saying it's really not a stretch, Alabama had to needed a last second drive against Texas to kick the winning field goal and then we all know a week ago, a and M was two yards away from winning the game.

Did the NCAA Legalize Cheating? Coach Chan Gailey Weighs In

"NCAA did such a terrible job. I mean, they followed it all the way to the Supreme Court and everybody telling them you're probably gonna lose this. This is just, you know, they kept on college presidents, though, an athlete record. We're encouraging it. They lost, but they had no plan B and now you got Bryce young at Alabama is making over a $1 million a year in NLR and IO partnerships. You've got kids. I mean, how can not say this is, I mean, it's just, it's one, it's not Pro Bowl. I mean, it is not pro ball. It is pro ball now. Number two, this plays into, you know, used to when you were coaching like if I was one of your big alumni. You know, it was a wink wink not. I couldn't suppose to have any dealing with the player. Now, I can have my all set up, and I can offer them before they ever get to say, if you know if you come here, I got a $1 million sitting here. Waiting. I mean, did we legalize the NCAA really just legalized cheating? Yes, that's all it was. They legalized it. And they did it in the name of doing what's right by the players. And I get that and to a certain degree, but I've been wanting to know is all along that said, okay, you want to pay the players, let's put $20,000, $25,000 every year they're there. And when they walk out, they get every one of them, not the quarterback, not the left half, hold not the linebacker, all of them, when they graduate, if they've been there 5 years, they get 5 times whatever it was. And they got a 100,000, a $120,000 when they walk out the door. But everybody wants it now. Everybody wants it now. We're analysis society. And I deserve it and give it to me now. And there's no white on anything. So it is pro ball, it's just, you know, a different way to do it.

"It's an interesting proposition. Thank you for the call. And let's check out TD in Georgia. Hello TV. Hey, Paul. How's it going, man? Very well. Thank you. Good, hey, we're not a great is beat down British beating out ever seen. What are you talking about that? Well, certainly in the running, I would agree. Okay, let me tell you, okay. This was a legend. The second best beatdown was when Baltimore coach got me down in 1968. They were supposed to be the greatest team that ever been in jets and name it put it on them. How about that? That was one of the considered the biggest football episode of all time. Booker in New Jersey is on the air. Hello, Paul. Thanks again and hello? Yeah, Booker, you're on the air. Yeah. Yeah. Remember I told you about the second or third week of the season. It would be some big upsets. Yeah. Well, of course, you know, my book eyes didn't make, but I'm really glad because I'm a roll fan. So you'd rather go to the rose bowl than be in the playoff, right Booker? Yeah, yeah, I don't feel this year. We are year away. Yeah, well, then how come one of your top players is opting not even to play in the rose bowl? Yes. That's kind of that. You know, I need to go and do like my daddy's take me to the Woods here, but you can't do that now. Do you think with Lincoln Riley going to the going to USC? That might have an impact on the flow of guys. That's very nice young man Bryce young to come in all the way from Pasadena where I thought I was going to move on to him. And CJ Stroud, I think it will because I mean, let's be honest, clay halton was a nice guy but a pedestrian coach and nobody wanted to play for him. And Lincoln Riley, you have one of the top offensive coaches in the country. And I think he will get a lion's share of again, there are plenty of quarterbacks in California to go around. It's just a matter of getting the right one since two or three guys. And the other guys, I think somewhere in the SEC. They ought to be a statue somewhere in there for John McKay, because he really opened the eyes and really started the ball in the road to make the SEC with the day after that legion feel would bear brat with sound bam Cunningham. You sure did. Because that really because at that time, the African American would say this and I've been saying this now for about 15 or 20 years once I got the story straight. Do you realize that when that game occurred that Alabama had already Alabama already had his first black player sitting in the stands watching that game as a freshman? I heard about it. Yes. Okay. And I know that in fact I'm going to see some of these guys in a couple of days. And calling it urban legend is ridiculous. It's just not true that that game changed college football. I know that that's certainly what the stories have been written. And when Sam Cunningham died a few weeks ago, that's what the media wrote, but it's just simply not true. And I think maybe we're in another millennium now. Maybe we can start getting that story right. We will take a break, more to come, Roman Harper joining us shortly..

"Welcome all of you back. Let's continue with more calls and Jim is up next. Hello, Mylan. I can't hear you. I couldn't hear you. Yes, Jim, good afternoon. Good afternoon. You know, that's the thing about that guy. Again, his position. It's not all about the talent. It's about the calm and the coup. And he exudes coup and calm, and you better believe that's what had a lot to do with what he can do and what he did Saturday night to Georgia. I saw something very similar that Paul this morning and never seen it. And it's ironic that he was on a while ago with you and what I saw this morning from Tiger wood's son, Charlie, who I promise you is phenomenal also. Swings at it exactly like Tiger. It was inspired. I mean, I loved it. I loved that kid is great, and we just had and they both are I'm not from California in that history. Yeah, no, that is inspiring that Tiger's going to be playing with Charlie next week. But yeah, as far as Bryce young is concerned, he has it all. And there's a certain piece about him, Jim that I think must translate in that huddle. That's what I was talking about. The coup promise, nothing worse, nothing is if he writes in answer to what he wouldn't be as good as he is. No, and we both have seen quarterbacks who are jittery and they may have raw talent, but sometimes two or three at one time as Alabama fall a quarterback when you said that. Yeah, no. And when you got on the air, very often. Yeah, no, I know. Anyway. I know exactly what you're talking about. But anyway, you know, I'm sure that the jealous haters, the haters, the jealous hater, the guy that ties it crush Alabama and goes after me like he did yesterday with his sticking lies and all his crap because that's all he's got. He can't bring nothing. And I bring some more time. For about three or four minutes, just down to the floor. As usual. He's pathetic. But that's what you get from jealous haters like Albert people, not all those people, but that especially I know you're talking about now. Yeah. Well, you all know the only pathetic psychopathy guy on the show, really a real psychopath. You know, rusty's his first name, if I will help you. Then a sociopath. So you're saying he's a psychopath, right? Well, the meanings of every word, but he's both. I'd say he's both. Let's cover the bases. You can be, I mean, you can have traces of both. He's got more than traces, Paul. Anyway, that's enough of that. But it's just great to hear class people, and that's what you have. And I think when I want to be, that's what I am except when I get a little angry about what everyone has their moments, and we all do. And it's the core of the person that matters, not the fringe. That's right. I agree, we are not described that we I just I'm glad you said what you said about will Anderson. Like I said, I want to reiterate this. I saw real Anderson sisters on the other day about four of them, I think. I've never seen girls or sisters that inspired me as much as they do. They are just so they're just so great. They're just so great. And they take care of him. They take care of will. And he takes care of his business. Well, that is great to know. All right, Paul, I appreciate you let me know. We go from Jim and Tuscaloosa to another gym. Hello, Jim. Hey, Paul, was that Jim talking about sports for a moment? Briefly. Yeah, it was briefly, it didn't last long enough. Paul, did you see or hear any kicking, screaming or dragging out of crystal ball, like you said it would take to get him out of Oregon? Yeah. I'm glad you brought that up, because on one level, I was surprised because of all the things that he had said about the recruiting class and about what is going on there. And to walk into that. I'm trying to come up with a nice way to describe where he went, but to me, I don't know if Miami can be saved. And he has really great as he is and as good of a recruiter. I think he'll make some inroads in Miami, but the problem with Miami is not the school, it's the fact that they play 45 minutes from campus and they've got a bunch of ex players who think they own the program. Right. And then if you looked over the last couple of weeks and I realized the thumping by the two Utah games, which looked like identical games for crying out loud, you think he'd made some adjustments or something somewhere. But that team was in a funk. And I like to wonder if those players, you know, there were some things going on, so mysterious injuries. Players not traveling with the team. I'm wondering if they already knew the sun was going on before that. And I can't come straight out and say, Mario Cristobal was out on Oregon's dime like Willie Tiger and recruiting from Miami, but I can't say Mario was out recruiting for Mario. Tell me that if you look at me, who is going to be the next coach there? Well, that's interesting because I wish we'd get off this chip Kelly thing because you know what? You can't relive the good old days. That train has gone. I want and you know what? I'll sell my soul for three or four years for lane kiffin. Get him in here, turn around, let him win an addie. He could take off. I don't care what happens, but I think that with Nick Saban, he is matured him to a point where I would love to see him come here. Yeah, I agree with you on chip. I think that's digging up old bones and I haven't seen enough had a chip since he left there that would make me think he's capable of reigniting that program, although I think I could coach what Mario christoval left behind. We are heading to a break, more of your phone calls right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. In South Carolina, hello, Michael. Hey, Paul how are you? We're doing great. How are you doing? I love you so I made them happy new year. Well, thank you for saying that. We appreciate it. And we certainly do have any plans for the holidays. Being with my parents, I love you very much. Well, that is exactly what I hope to hear. You take care of yourself, Michael. You say, hello to your parents for all of us. And we will talk soon, I hope. Our part. Thank you. Thank you very much. Great to have you on. Let's check out sunny. In Mississippi, hello, Sonny. Paul, how are you doing? We're doing well. Thank you. I'm calling about an article I read about Texas, horns with a heart, a nonprofit charity organization will provide every scholarship offensive lamb in that Texas with $50,000 annually as part of a new NIL program. What is your thoughts about this? And where are we going? Obviously. This is not going to be the only one that's going to do it. We've turned this into professional sports, and I know that administrators will act like they didn't hear what I just said, but I don't know how you can deny that. Exactly because somebody's going to pay 75,000. Yeah. And our previous guest, he signed an NLD for reported 7 7 figures. And it didn't change him, but we don't know the trickle down yet. And I still think we're trying to figure this whole thing out, but ultimately you're going to see the bigger programs continue to shut everyone else out. How can you compete with that? Well, I think the portal and this NIL is really going to have an effect on college football. So we had a former coach calling the other day and in fact, I ran into him yesterday. And he was talking about the biggest programs literally picking and choosing in the portal, like Bryce young, he'll be back next year, if you're a receiver, you figure, I'll go play with him. It's going to help. It's certainly going to enhance my stats and my overall draft stocks. So why am I going to stay with the quarterback who can't find me down in the field when I can go play for the best of the business?.

"Yeah, it was definitely, you know, it was tough game, especially offensively in a very difficult environment. And you know it was kind of a theme that we've been dealing with all year was just facing adversity and again it was adverse conditions. You know, and it was, you know, for us going, you know, into that drive, it was a have to have a situation. We all understood, we all said the circumstance we all understood. You know, it was behind it. And for us, that was, you know, it really was a culmination of the work we put in in the trust that we've accumulated throughout our time together. Especially as offense, but even as a whole team, you know, before we took the field, you know, we all kind of we all were able to look into each other's eyes and we were able to have full confidence each other and no one and I know flinched. We all stepped up in the biggest moment of that game and you know we're able to kind of ride that momentum throughout the game. And you know, for me, that's always huge. When you're into those tough moments, you know those difficult times and you have adversity and you know everybody on the field you have complete trust and you know you've been there and you know how others respond. You know, that gave me all the costs in the world and all 11 of us offensively on that drive stepped up. Finally, Bryce, we've all made so much out of what coach Saban said after the game about some of it being disrespected, which is unusual for Alabama. Usually we may give Alabama too much credit, but how do you explain the performance that all of your teammates put forth Saturday night against Georgia? Yeah, it was something that coach had been talking to us about throughout the week and you know, honestly, it was something that we took on as a team. Really more than anything. Like you said, kind of, you know, it was being in a different situation than we have been. In the past of being an underdog and people talking about us in the media and negative lights and for us, it was about kind of reaching that standard that we have set for ourselves and making sure that, you know, we lived up to it and we got opportunity to kind of coach present us with the opportunity to go out and earn our respect and the public eye and how we all stepped up everybody on the team. Everybody on the coach to have how we all stepped up throughout the weekly preparation and then on Saturday as extremely it was huge. So, you know, with something that was great to build off of, and we know we're going to need that same intensity and we're going to need that same work that same drive, moving forward. If we want to accomplish our goals, but it was something really big for us to build off of. Finally, Bryce, as you get ready to head to New York and get through the awards tonight and everything that comes with it, is there anything in particular you're looking the most forward to about being part of the Heisman ceremony? Yeah, I think really just again being able to take that trip with my parents and then be able to experience it with me being able to be around other guys and just being an environment like that. You know, obviously that's the one in a lifetime type of moment. It's super special to be a part of it. So being able to savor that moment with my family, you know, for me, that's going to be huge. Well, congratulations on everything you've done and not everything you're about to do. Thanks so much for making time. All the very best. Thank you. Thank you for having me on. It was our pleasure. Bryce young, joining us from Tuscaloosa as he gets ready for awards tonight and obviously the big one on Saturday night. We will take a short break. You are listening to the Paul find show podcast..

"These are major programs who have just experiencing a little turmoil right now, but Oklahoma had a pretty good season. There were certainly in the big 12 race until the final game. More of your phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 Monique is up next. Good afternoon. Hey, Paul. How are you doing? I am well. Thank you. Hey, I got two questions. My first question is, how do you view Alabama from this point that they don't want to issue champion initiative? Well, Monique, I think you have to view them very positively. They still have some flaws, but they've been able to overcome almost everything thrown at them this year. Why? So that being said, I wonder if the media look at them as in, okay, well, we all know they've been the number one team, you know, we all know that. So violent, they don't have some short term if they don't fail us. I think it's going to happen is I think you'll see an overreaction, whether that's justified or not. I think instead of people doubting Alabama going into the playoffs, they are going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Hey, thank you for the call. Really appreciate it. We are heading to the break right now, and we come back. We expect to talk to Bryce young. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Welcome all of you back to the program. We'll continue with more phone calls. Guests will start dropping in here very quickly. Matt is up next in San Antonio. Hey, man. Where were you actually man? I missed you. You wasn't my best friend, man. I'm sorry, Matt, sorry I wasn't here. Okay, I was going to say to your friend, you passed away. I hope his family guests and comfort in knowing I'm not trying to be judgmental Asian and better place these looking down on them. I think there's a pretty good chance of that. Okay, well I'll tell you about texting and the bowl games. This way for his team, I worry about filmmakers, so they're worth the thing. Crap out of them. I worry about them. And I'm also okay, but the number of Korean questions might bring in. And once you start on a pause, the game and that as well. I haven't really thought about the game yet. Where is that game? Do you know? I think it's in the border again, just before, okay, we played their last time. Okay. I think the most important thing isn't the game, I think it's the recruiting class, mad, and Jimbo Fisher has talked about it and it keeps getting better. It's one of the top two or three classes in the country, maybe the Best Buy that by this time next week. And that's significant. Because Jimbo has proven that he can recruit just like Sabin and Kirby smart. And that's the best ticket for that program to advance. Let's continue with more phone calls. Brad is in Florida. Hello Brad. Hi, Paul. How are you? I'm well. Thank you. Appreciate it. Well, it looks like you can either find your barking, you practice embark in a little better. I've got I'm glad I don't have to bar right now because I don't think I could handle it. That being said, the idea to I woke up Sunday and had to eat a little bit of humble pie, but I'll take it, but I ain't ready to give up on my dog. I want to clear up a couple of things. I want to say something to first of all are Georgia fans got a short memory and I don't like that they keep on everybody's own Kirby talking about he can't assess a quarterback and he made a mistake with Jake fromm and Justin Fields and this and that, the other, Jake fromm is not stepping back. Jake from would have won that ball game. And what everyone doesn't remember is Justin Fields went to Ohio State. And yes, he won his Heisman, but they got to the national championship and they played Alabama and you remember what happened? Lost about 28. They lost exactly right. Well, but Brad, he came in second to devonta Smith and the Heisman and he had a great year and he had a great two years, but he was a good quarterback. He was all about the future. He was not better than Jake fromm. At any point during those two years. Very good. Very good. That's exactly right. I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to our Georgia fans that are on Kirby. He's the best thing that's happened at Georgia since bridge Dooley. People need to remember that. The other thing that I want to say to miss L that came on the show the other day in a blanket, I can relate a chuckle about that, but tell her she's got it wrong. Don't give up. You look up, you look up. Definition. I think it's going to be okay. Hey, thank you very much for the call. I do appreciate it. We're really looking forward to saying hello to our next guest who is probably one of the busiest young men in America with award shows, a Heisman Trophy stole a recovering from the SEC championship. "bryce young" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"Welcome to the program. It is great to have all of you with us here on this Thursday afternoon. Thanks for being a part of it. And man, we got a lot to do today, including conversation with college football's best player. Let's get to some headlines and yeah. They are still rowing. The tide keep winning. Player of the year, Bryce young. He's the favorite for the Heisman. What do you think? Well, this is the players of the year to have won the AP and the Heisman. Devonte did it, borough, Kyler baker, Lamar, mariotta. Last time it didn't happen. Christian McCaffrey, he lost the husband through Derek Henry. And the award show tonight, the Heisman on Saturday night. Meanwhile. The NFL, how college football salaries will force the NFL to adapt or get left behind. What exactly is that name? We'll tell you. Look at some of these salaries. Belichick, Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, Harbaugh, other side, salary, oak. Matt rule. Forgot about him. College football salaries have been behind, but now they are surging ahead with the last couple of weeks of Lincoln Riley and Ryan Kelly, Mel Tucker. I don't think the NFL will have any difficulty. Meanwhile, the search continues at duke. We're cut cliff was let go. Oregon has an opening. Who's on their short list? We'll talk about that later in the show. Anybody we know? Virginia has an opening. They've had a snag talking to a Tony Elliot. And not a lot of coaching jobs, but there could still be a few tipped over and tip over the embed. Meanwhile, we have more to talk about Miami lures Dan radic COVID from Clemson, considered one of the best in the industry. He has shepherded that dabo Sweeney program for a couple of years and now is bailing out. Seems like a lot of people are bailing out. Tony Elliot, we've already seen Brent venables. The dabo he's happy. Yeah, they all SEC freshman team, AR-15. At the QB position, a lot of other big names. On that list. Powers. I feel like I feel like every time I look up, Brock Bowers is catching another pass. And on defense, it's a pretty good names as well. What did you expect? I mean, these are the bright, Kool-Aid made it. What else matters? Coming up, we mentioned the player of the year in college football, likely Heisman winner. The quarterback for the crimson tide, Bryce young was doing this in a couple of moments. Roman Harper. I don't think he ever won player of the year, but he probably thinks he did. Ernie Johnson, one of the legendary broadcasters, and another broadcaster, you may not know rich to Marco. He's the play by play man for the West Point. Army navy this weekend, we never forget that. And we don't forget your phone calls either. At 855-242-7285. Let's get to the calls. And talk to John to begin with a hello John. Hey, welcome back, Paul. And on a serious note, I hope the memorial service is so heard was comforting for you and the family and friends yesterday. Thank you, John. It was just great to see somebody friends and visiting with Cecil's mom and sister and brother was it was comforting to me, but it was more important that they were comforted by what they heard and I hope they appreciated the greatness and the reach of their family member because there were so many of our colleagues there yesterday, but thanks for bringing that up. Yeah. And you were dearly missed to the degree that my daughter who does intern work up at Cincinnati listen to your show every day and she had to call me and said, where's Paul? And I said, well, he had another thing to do yesterday. And she says, well, the show isn't the same without you. She said the regular guests don't come in and the co host or the step in host aren't the same. She said with Paul, he listens to you, he listens to the fans and to the guest with the co host they kind of listen to themselves. She's got nicknames for everyone. I am becoming more and more impressed with your daughter. Of course you would. Well, she your nickname is Paul the DJ because she pushed the phone buttons and people's buttons when you need to. And her favorite caller is these are nicknames, of course, augie daddy because he's the adult in the room. There's lovable Larry. And then the only person that she doesn't care for, I want name them, but she calls them the angry curmudgeon from Alabama that she's nicknamed, can't think what it is. Oh, yeah, force grump. Now, which one's for anyone? The guy the angry curmudgeon from Alabama. I think you know who we're talking. James from Tuscaloosa. Yeah. Anyways, my question is Jim is angry. Because I think saying somebody is angry is this tame compared to what he has often when she calls him passionate too when she tries to be kind. Anyways, my word. Depends on when JC takes his nets. I know. My two questions are this. The first one will be the CFP status because they had another meeting and that was supposed to be the deadline. It could have done what they did Vis-à-vis assume meeting, not get together and Fort Worth. And the second question is, given the terrible season, Texas has had in Oklahoma Riley showing us disrespect to the school in the stoops and poaching the coaches and recruits. First question is, when will the CFP change to a 12 team rule? And then second should Texas in Oklahoma maybe wait a few more years to their SEC ready before they pay a ransom some to come over. John, thank you for the call. I think we're going to get some news on expansion in a couple of months. I don't think it's going to be anytime soon. As far as Texas and Oklahoma, I think they'll be prepared when they get here. I don't think it's a matter of being ready one year over the other..

"The are back great to have all of you with us here on this tuesday afternoon. I know it's hard for some to believe that other conferences for having media days other than the sec and our next guest has been covering one of them brady mcculloch from the la times. Always great conversation brady. Thank you for the time. That's good to reconnect with you after awhile. And how are you. And what happened out on the west coast today good afternoon. Hey i've always be paul Yeah you know. We're doing great out here out here in hollywood and Facto media days which you guys down. South can't believe is only one day here. I guess we got better things to do. And in california if you pack it all in twelve schools the in the one day so So we knock it out real quick and move on with our lives but the David shaw You know kinda stole stole a little bit of thunder the morning with comments. I'm sure you saw about about nick sabin. And and thrice yong l. And and all that. And of course a conversation with the new commissioner george clear about realized how the pac twelve is at least publicly. Viewing that situation and Other than that some pretty business as usual yell. Let's go to the david shaw comments because we haven't really had a chance to to delve into them. And anytime you dare mention alabama whether indirectly or directly nick sabin without paying the proper homage It's going to get a reaction. Take us through all that oil. You know what. I later tweeted hours later because i felt like the whole context of what david said was needed. Which is he actually started. Off by saying You know no ten of us in this room. Combined as smart as nick sabin And and his kinda then went on a rant about just. Obviously that was the recruiting. You know recruiting genius for saving the draw at that coaches convention That the whole thing just getting out there like that was all about recruiting. Obviously and he's right about that and You know then. He's and he started to kind of i kind of get off topic a little bit and you know making kind of comments that bryce young. He's never You know hasn't even started a game and he's getting supposedly getting this money. That's really what we're trying to do here with We've college college sports. And then i l and So i think he went off the rails a little bit and eventually you know kinda showed that that he really doesn't think that College athletes You know really deserve a chance at a at a free market Situation even with their health. Which is interesting brady. Because he even though. I think most coaches probably agree He's one of the few that i've heard. Maybe the only one. I've heard to be so bold. Yeah and it was. It was surprising You know one of the Guys who's done a ton about an. I economists from stanford stanford grad andy sports out here in the bay area and he made the comment that david shaw needs to walk down the road to its world class. You know Economy you know department at Economics department at At stanford and learn about you know free market economics and You know i think that You know but it kind of alliances. This he's the head coach at stanford you know and and so he gets to. Have you know these lofty your viewpoints and You know meanwhile savings out there touting the amount of money that that very strong getting on the on the recruiting trail. So it's different world and shaw's the coach at stanford You know can can live in that world prayed. Let's talk a little bit about the commissioner. And what he said today in real and we played the comments earlier in relation to expansion. I mean he. He put a great Face forward as the new commissioner but the pac twelve hasn't exactly been setting the woods on fire lately. What's it look like right now with all these dominoes falling. Yeah it's. it's definitely not surprising that that was his public stance. And i think it's a smart stance. I don't think it's tax will necessarily has to do something you know. I think cleve cobb you know comes from the entertainment world knows a lot about you. Know bundling content and delivering consumers. And that's exactly what the facts all needs and the end of the day. But we're talking about here is bundles of context. And if they're gonna add and realignment they he has to be analyzing and thinking about you know. What are those. Those bundles that are going to be those properties. They're going to be interesting and increase this pac twelve meteorites deal there you know school by school about thirty two million a year which ales in comparison right now To the sec. In the big ten especially and so they're gonna make a move. They certainly need to make moves. That are not gonna ultimately. Just take more money away from the the slice of the pie for twelve schools. That are here now. You know it's up to people smarter than me than figure out you know. Do the texas schools the big twelve Leftover scraps You know bring that to the to the pack. Although i'm not sure they do in the way of tv. Tv's market share. Things like that. I think that you know if you have an option of trying to add some schools in texas and maybe oklahoma state to to their schools into that recruiting but france. Us's been trying to recruit a lot more in texas the last few years. They've tried to recover from You know what happened with play health in here so i know that there are some schools so i'm sure would like to be able to say we we have you know conference brethren in texas and we're a part of that footprint we can get in there isn't worth it though to risk then you're getting less money because you've got sixteen schools. You know fourteen schools instead. It's twelve when these schools here on the west coast really need every dollar to try to catch up at this next meteorites you know agreement so it it is not an easy calculation. I think george klay aqap and just. I'm curious brady from from the west coast Your view of what has been going on here for the past week. I mean we do swimming these waters and sometimes you know it takes a little bit of a of a broader perspective. How is the ou. Texas story two teams to schools. I should say who nearly hijacked Their way to the pac twelve ten years ago ending up in a place that nobody really could've predicted that long ago. Yeah yeah. I mean. I think he starts to look at the time. Line of what's been happening across college sports Over the last. Couple of years You know ending with this really just total shopping of the ball from the ncaa at the end here with coming off the supreme court decision. Not feeling like they can make a real stance on coming through with the rules that they had been talking about for two years about name image and like this they would govern this new era. Ponting it to the schools conferences. Amer coming out saying you know that. mark hammer coming out saying that they need to decentralize. You know the the ncaa governance and give more power to the conferences. All of that. And then you throw in the college football playoff going twelve team and i think you can start to see why this suddenly looked a lot more appealing so on texas because things are changing their big movements afoot..

"Be without annemarie. I can't be without you. And i hate to say because i'm so vulnerable when you say it's true like it's not you said during commercial break next commercial break down lover no seriously. I can't be without her. Everything i do wrong. She does perfectly and everything that i do. Well she does even better. It's a weird. I even though i'm the man but she is killing me in things that are working with the kids learnt envisioning how families should go things we need to do keeping the house and all that bad there and look at people. I've used to date and they were great too but it just didn't add up. It was other factors that they had the lane only was still one leg out one. I on the street still listen to the home. He's a little tough still. Just wanted to be in front of the line instead of just happy wherever you line and i'm looking at bigger like you gotta show me that. We can't do this without you right now. Because right now you just got me in a store on a good half rebate ninety nine cents and until baker takes that next step and i think he can do it this year. People confuse what i say about baker. I don't think he's sorry. I think he's damn good. But i've been damned good and then not damn good the next time. And that's what they don't pay they pay either this or they pay this dale like the pay this because what we're not pay you. Are you going to live up to it. Coming up nick. Sabin says vegan alabama that quarterback. Bryce young has already made ungodly numbers and endorsements. We'll tell you if this is a concern. That's net of quarterback. Brian shown has not officially been named crimson. Tide started but he's already taken advantage of the ncaa's rule change allowing athletes to profit from their name. Image and likeness. Nick sabin says young has already approached ungodly numbers and he hasn't even played yet. He said those numbers are almost a million dollars. Almost as much as jerry jones sadlier so if bryce love endorsements is earnings concern for you is a huge concern for your boy number one. I'll start just with the college football aspect. What makes college football great in my mind as a couple of things. One the rivalry games but in addition to that is the at least tempted parody. Okay right like tcu can beat a texas. You know what i mean like alabama can fall to a ucf on on a bowl game some given day. There's parity at times. Now we've lost a lot of our paired because alabama clemson. Ls george ohio state. They've kind of been on top now. Texas texas has not. But we've lost some of our parody. But when you got quarterbacks who haven't taken snap of meaningful football in college making a million dollars now so why would i go play anywhere else. The average american will not earn a million dollars in his lifetime. A college quarterback and earn a million dollars without ever taking us. Now if i'm high school recruit yuck signed me up there wherever they're paying that kind of money and they're not even paying that kind of money because he income per capita in alabama's at high it's just their love and passion for football is great and that is my first primary concern. My secondary concern neukolln nowhere. Ten ninety nine is or is not like a route tree combination. How most liquorice cost curl and to go. Routes on the opposite side is not flat. Ten ninety nine. No no no. No ten ninety nine means a couple of things the biggest thing you need to understand is they come with him tag take taxes so college athletes in this instance with with bryce. It's if you're earning a million dollars you're gonna owe roughly six figures. It's hard to approximate. But you're going to. Irs roughly six figures and. It's not illegal until you get cobb boy if you get caught whether it's nice you're nice so with that being said self. That's a lot to handle for college. Athlete they probably don't even know what being ten ninety nine and all of a sudden you weren't a million dollars you're going to go spend a million dollars. You're going to spend seven hundred thousand dollars then. You won't get not. We need some money now. All of a sudden you ain't got it problem. That is a problem. it's a problem though. trust me. i'd rather juggle as many balls as i can and drop a bunch that have no balls to juggle it all. Okay i love what people say. What are you gonna do about this. I'll figure that out later. I'll have the means to figure that out to your point that you think that. This is a huge concern. I don't look. I'm split on this. Because i think holistically i do see the concern because i see the inequity in this. And you look parody. I don't give a damn like we don't have to all be the same as i know. There's no no such thing as equality. So i know the game is rigged for all different types of reasons so therefore i go into it knowing. There's a game to play. And i know that the rules always change in that same game. So if i'm a college player. Right now i have to understand what college is colleges the last step before reality real world the last one. But you're on edge clip. 'cause i remember going from high school to college and you go to high school to college and you're like the first day of school the first week of school your alarm clock. You gotta sit it. We didn't have iphones all that back. We had to sit alarm clock. I was like damn. I never have to do this. Mama wake me up. Daddy wake me up or just my biological clock but in college and partying the night before. Think biological clock. Oh i got practice. You have to learn all these things you know what another thing that you're gonna learn in college that you need to be prepared for reality and guess what in reality there aren't things that are equal so coats. Saving is not showing these guys properly. How equal they are are not this talk about that. If co sabin was your coach joe he will look you in is in talk about the team. Co-ceo was my coast my freshman sophomore year. He went and looked at all negative. I wouldn't have. I was a little dude. I was late. Bloomer and these kids know that as well there five stars in high schools and some of them are one stars at alabama looking on him is he not giving them all the same amount of equity in terms of time attention space. He may try to. But you gotta talk to bryce young. Even he's out of starter. He's going to be a starter. I is a guy was incoming who shirt you. Don't talk to that guy at the same depth in the same lips so to me this is microcosm of the real world. This is a microcosm of what your behaviors are currently coached sabin currently alabama. Which is it's an uneven playing field. Get used to it brash. Go make millions some y'all go make crumbs. What the real world. That's a great great great point but let me not even push back. Let me put here okay. My other fear with college athletes being paid in the manner in which bryce young is college athletes have been broke but college athletes. Having gone broke my fears now. College athletes might go broke. Let me just give you a case study. Guess you've jalen hurts. Jalen hurts his rookie year. It alabama. He breaks the alabama record for touchdowns in a single season with thirty. Six jalen hurts would have been paid sophomore year again. He goes thirteen in one. He still would've been paid but then who takes over in the last game to a tongue of iowa by jalen hurts his junior year he was an afterthought so saint jalen hurts. His freshman year is making a million dollars in earnings sophomore. You're making a million dollars in earnings. So what's he gonna do obviously going to go buy a house. Probably buy your car. Invest as he shouldn't live well as he should. Yeah but now. He's anticipating making a million. Maybe two million dollars junior year but he gets beat out so now that he's beat out what's he do. He's still got a mortgage payment but now people don't care about his jersey they want to as jersey now. This jalen hurts in this case. Study of the example. I'm using now he's dealing with. I was just used to making a million a million a million dollars and now i'm making a hundred thousand. They don't want my jersey anymore. But my mortgage is still eight to twelve thousand dollars a month. My car is still three thousand dollars a month. My phone bill etcetera. I'm still feeding my family now. I a- college play. You're going broke. That's the other fear at hand because you got the tram four portals more lively than ever college athletes go from starting to be in on the bench across multiple programs and i.

"Playoffs. You get into dance you give yourself a chance coming up. Baker mayfield might have to wait another year for a long term deal will tell you if that would be a mistake by the browns. That's next don't speak for. The most anticipated reunion of the summer is here. As johnson returns home to do seen on friday nights tavoy a eastern only on thoughts but jeep baker mayfield is eligible for a long term deal with the browns. Might not be ready to put pen to paper. Reports say is quote a little more of a wait and see approach and that it it would not be surprised. Bakers deal comes next off season bakers taking it in stride saying quote not worried about it at all we win. We're headed in the right direction. So the be making a mistake waiting to pay banker mistake Sell let me simplify it right. We know we went long in a block. You know what i'm saying. So let me just give you all my gut punches right now. Okay because you are an organization. that's in cleveland. Cleveland is not one of the more tractor cities At least not to the young athletes coming from a young athlete they'd had to play in. Cleveland got drafted to clean. Check out to the browns for taking a chance on your boy. Then how can you acquire a quarterback you and acquire a quarterback one of two ways through the draft or through free agency. Well you can't really acquire a great quarterback through free agency because of the destination. They're not going to choose to the quarterback in cleveland. Quarterbacks you require do free agency. Over the years. Jason campbell didn't have much success. Tyrod taylor didn't have much success. Rg three my dog. Didn't have much success. Jeff garcia didn't have much success at trenton. Dilfer did not have much success. So if you're not gonna succeed. As a cleveland brown organization acquiring quarterback free agency. Your other option is the draft sense. Take haven't had a ton of success in the draft albeit heisman winners. Tim couch didn't have success heisman. Winners johnny manziel didn't have a ton of success by dog. heisman finalists. colt mccoy didn't have much success. Brady quinn not much. Success brandon weeden first round. Pick not much success so free agency. Your hands are tied. Because not a ton of quarterbacks are going to want to go play in cleveland even if you throw him a boatload of money through the draft historically you haven't really done well so if i'm looking at it if baker mayfield is both a really good option right now. He's a solid option. Won eleven games. Maybe that's not great but if you're a browns fan should be content. What are your other alternatives. Bain con getting a better quarterback through free agency. I just laid out why. That's not very smart bank on getting a great quarterback draft look internally look in the mirror browns organization. You're not likely to do so. So you have baker mayfield because you have baker mayfield. You might as well commit long-term to baker mayfield sooner than later so you can pay him less than more. That's really the simplicity of it. I'm not jumping on. This is the best quarterback in the nfl bandwagon. I'm probably job on logically saying cell free agencies not a great option. The draft doesn't proven to be a great option. You already have a good enough option. Stick which are good option and get him at the chief. Okay i'm what to there. He's cheaper right now. But here's the conversation and here's the problem. This is why the browns should wait on paying baker mayfield. Even though he's cheaper right now the question is is he worth the investment. Now a lot of people were like. Yeah he's worth the investment especially if it's cheap right now but let me tell you the psychology consumerism. Let me tell you. The psychology of all the taj walk into a store. This is why became a sociology and psychology. Major is because of classes like this. The sociology of life just grabbed me. I was like damn. That's how it goes when you go into a grocery store. You may think is randomness man. That thing is curated and calculated same thing happening with this situation. Where baker mayfield. He's not proven he's shown flashes that he's great but he's consistently inconsistent groot year bad year. Good great year. what necks. So here's the thing when you go into that store don't you notice everything's ninety nine cents dollar ninety nine nine hundred ninety nine hundred nine hundred. Why not why. Don't you just make it eight dollars instead of seven ninety nine because the psychology of all we need to incentivize you. Oh you know what if this a little cheaper. Don't you need it even though you need to be asking yourself. A greater questioned in is it cheap. Do i need it at all. Do i needed at or do we need baker mayfield. 'cause we have dressed as dude a better than anybody else in the league. Currently we got all pro's pro bowlers fruit behind him to hear horse receivers stars and baker. You're not the driving force. So here's two things we have to ask ourselves. What can you be consistent. Can you backup a great year with another good great year and two are you. The reason are you were investment. If not you get caught up in half all sales you ever walk lowney jack. Oh wait a minute. That's half off is cheap right half off. But what do i need to pay for it at all. I don't need it so baker mayfield. Make them need you because right now you just kind of glorious want to ask permission to hijack the segment. Let's gum is obviously when your best takes up hurt. The seven ninety nine. It's phenomenal take because you're sitting here caliber trying to deliberate. Is it cheap enough. But the question is do you needed needed so you make a great point. I'm sitting here like we'll get baker while he's team but the question is do you need it but then you have to be reminded that the market dictates your value that sell senior bowl. I went to senior bowl. All star the senior bowl is that in alabama and alabama. I'm glad you faced in mobile alabama all-star game for college seniors. I show up at the senior bowl. And i'm getting checked in by different people the exact etc etc. There were two wonderful women. They're checking me and great personalities not the most attractive to you boy but incredible personnel personality. But if you ever spent a week in mobile alabama you understand that the market of beauty as a little bit different than the market of beauty in la well upon first glance upon check in. I was like oh you're great personalities. But by the time i was leaving they were tens halle berry prime market him now increased their physically there so is at baker mayfield when he arrived in cleveland. You looking at baker like okay. It doesn't really do much for me but now that you've looked around at the market like wait a second what's out there. What else is out there. What else can we are in. Now you start to look at baker after year three going into year four and you look at baker in the same manner. I looked at those who checked me. And after seven days in mobile alabama. Wait a second baker. You lookin kinda good so you are right. You have to ask yourself. I is not as baker cheap enough. Do we need baker but once you realize that the market has increased value. You absolutely need bait okay. Look i'm mad.

"You think i'm being argumentative. But it's not a clean swap dislike. Janas your started without do holiday. So that's not really the race for the you. How does drew get the ring now. And then we're going to say well. The race started without him. What he wasn't a part of that relay as you know what this start without him. It did not for jaanus in his mind. Historian did before this team where this team started is when they had drew holiday with. Chris middleton picked up. pj tucker halfway through the season. that's what gets rings not. Well you know what before all y'all were here. We were no good. But the kicker is who's the author the author right. Now's your honest saying correct. He went by himself. Sat there by himself and his team was losing their minds. He whole game either really and he's the only one. Okay that's fine. I just think. I'm starting to see some cracks in the armor of the great yacht as my last point is this. I never trust people that when they get to the top they immediately try to convince you that their top is hired in your top and guess what jaanus top is fine enough. It's time for awarding performance brought to you by capital one. What's in your wallet. Well was that the dallas cowboys finished six and ten last season. That prescott is expected to be back in the expectation but through thousands not won the super bowl in twenty five seasons and obviously high on jerry jones list of priorities. He said quote. I do anything known to get super bowl. That's fact close quote so marcellus wiley. You one dawn to star on your helmet us standing in the way the cowboys super bowl only two things health and focus. Let's focus in on one thing. Health dak prescott back in the starting lineup. Dak prescott as the franchise quarterback he is now only. Is that this last free agency signing of the season. But it's also gonna make the biggest difference for this cowboys team. A remind people. How much better deck makes this entire team included defense. Remember the defense. They start calling themselves. The hot boys when dad was healthy. They ain't call themselves jack when he was gone they were like nah anti no nickname for you. So the cowboys defense last year. Let's talk about how they turned a corner from week. eleven on. i know you stop watching. That's what happens when a team is not that good but this is the same team that had the most takeaways from week. Eleven on and eleven scoring fifth fewest giveaways in that span but let's talk about in totality seventh. Most takeaways lasts even and eleventh ranked pass defense. Why his deck so important. I gave you why he shouldn't be important. What is defense has to do with it other than complementary football. Let's talk about ezekiel elliott. Who would outback. Seventy eight yards a game with deck hundred eight and he got six pack again lamb. He goes up thirty yards per game. Amari cooper goes twenty. Michael gallup goes up twenty five yards per game just because dachshund builder now. Why is that so important. Because everyone looks at the dallas cowboys like you guys have underachieved. Yes by the talent but there's also circumstances health and the focus you know at the cowboys since two thousand nineteen have the best record. Nfc east and that includes injury to deck press. Why is that matter face. Look at doing the dance. Was that the honestly. Hey you went into sees. What are you get playoff playoff. See right game. Let's be real about this. So here's the thing about the dallas cowboys since they will win. Division because dacca's nineteen eighty six in divisions rookie season really sixteen three loss three rookie year that prescott in the building. He helps with the health he makes makes everyone else better. Because he's a force multiplier. We'll get to the focus on the second lap that star. I know what it looks like. You said you were that. What star star. What is standing in the way of the cowboys. Super bowl is the star here. You go star. Because the problem. With the cowboys franchise i believe is that they give their players too much praise before they ever earn. It was the same problem. The texas football my alma mater faces. It's a matter of pride comes. Before the fall well these players are prideful and thus they fall before they ever actually have a reason to be prideful and when you get drafted by the dallas cowboys. You're instantly known marcella. Said the cowboys. Defense refers himself as a hot boys. How do you have a nickname when you're a historically one of the worst defenses the.

"Thought that i thought that next saving was telling the truth. You know you did. I guess we'll you're giving too much credit. Yeah i mean a year. Usually not that naive. You're not that usually that easy. It is going to be interesting though to see what these guys really do make. Here's the thing though. Tommy in all seriousness. These players are going to cash in right away those with large social media followings or those who are playing in high profile programs but i think the bryce young thing whether you know it's a million bucks one hundred thousand dollars or whatever it is it might be substantial because he's the starting quarterback at alabama. I think it's another sort of point of proof that it's the programs that matter. This is always been sort of part of my argument against paying players directly. I don't have that much of an issue within i l. I've talked about that. But the pro. Bryce young isn't going to make a hundred thousand dollars or a million dollars in endorsement deals. If he's the starting quarterback at duke or if he's the starting court i'm northwestern lower-profile football schools bama's the brand sabin is the brand. They are taking advantage of this existing marketing platform. That is huge for them and their future. As a professional athlete as as a professional athlete that gets a big contract because he's higher profile or she's higher profile and by the way endorsement opportunities. That wouldn't be there without the marketing platform. Like bryce young. You've never heard of bryce young. I only barely heard of bryce young. Because i follow college football. But nobody's seen him play yet and he hasn't even won the job. This is an absolute argument as to why schools are actually the the draw not the players. Brace young doesn't get anything if he plays for a much lesser program. You're right about that. Alabama is brand duke basketball. Mike chefs ski. That's the brand. You know the the the players that these players come and go quickly. It's hard to even name all the players that have come through the duke program and left after a year or two or the kentucky program and left after a year or two and then by the way disappeared in the nba at the professional level. It's all unless you are a massive fan of those schools. You can't even name those people but you know you do know duke. Wears blue and white. They play cameron door and their coach at least for another year. Is mike szumowski. That's the brand. And if you go to duke you're going to benefit and you're going to basically ride that brand into a professional endorsement deal and a contract that you wouldn't get if you're playing for a much lesser program and a much lower profile spot but whatever. Do you have anything else. Pleasant today to talk about. I got nothing else for your appeal to wait. Go enjoy the beach. I need to. I need to get some mental. Hell better and maybe before you re tweet something or tweet something out if you wanna just you know if you want to just bounce it off me feel free. Yeah yeah you'd be good sounding board. I would be much. I'd be very good sounding board. Have a great day at the beach. All right i'll see back tomorrow. I don't know with whom but it'll be a good show. I.

"Kill for that. I don't have any. I don't make any money like that for endorsements bryce young. It's and this is what's interesting about. This too is that it seems like players in certain athletes are going to get paid differently and you see on social media or wherever athletes are trying to endorse themselves or not doors and trying to get. Endorsements like hey. Vitamin is looking to sponsor b. I'm right here. Is that what we're gonna go with now just h-have who wants to sponsor me. I'm right here now. I wonder how some athletes are going to react. There's gonna be some athletes that don't make money off. Endorsements compared to others are going to be some my transfers because guys want to transfer to a small university or a better chance to be a starting quarterback so they can get an endorsement like. I have a feeling. We're going to start to see that you're going to start to see you guys. Not only their transient. Because they're not getting playing time because but because they see the guys in front of them making all this money and they're not getting any of it as far as the endorsements that athlete gets so we see more transfers. And i'm not saying that i should transfer but i'm just saying that this is what the effect that i think it could happen at these athletes. If they have not seen the field for a year or two they may want to leave go to a small university be the starting position player. Whatever they are at the university and now they're trying to get endorsement. So you're i think personally. I think you're going to see the transfer portal rise. I don't think you'll see it fall. I think you're gonna see it. Rise because some guys now are going to school just to play sports some guys or or women who ever going into the school to play sports and if they are not playing because they're not getting the endorsements they are going to transfer more often and the ncw has gotten rid of the one year. Sit out rule so now these athletes can go wherever they want to not sit out one time though yet pressure. You can't take advantage of it all the time but one time to find a chance to make some money and i think that's what's going to happen. I mean wrong. I hope i am wrong. And i hope that these athletes are going to make money regardless of where where the are on their depth chart. But it's not. It's not gonna happen like like what's the what's it called like. A starting quarterback in the nfl will have a bigger sponsor usually over a backup usually over a third string. They are the starters. They had the face of the team.
