"Think of all the teams should expect in September still be in the postseason home. That would be fun. Chris Singleton's instant analysis is brought to you by John Deere, Run with us on a gay Direction V and pave your own way with plenty of power. Nothing runs like a Deere. Now the 3 to 2 Hoskins swung on belted deep left field. It's gone. Hoskins hits it into the second row of seats right over the 3 85 marker in left center, his second home run of the season and the Phillies. They're now back within Iran, a 3 to 2. Way you get both hands on the bat, a breaking ball. He was out front just a little bit. But he maintained his balance and kept his hands moving forward towards the pitcher instead of a lot of times you can cut off come in and out of the zone and didn't even look like it was off the sweet spot of the barrel, but just such a strong guy, but of power and out on a nice night in Atlanta. So the Phillies back within a run after trailing three to nothing at the end of an inning. Now here is Bryce Harper, who struck out swinging his first time up. Smiley's first bitch swinging a Minnesota fast ball over the outside corner, all in one You mentioned how Smiley's velocity has picked up over the last couple of years. He used to kind of be a 92 92 guy. Now he's more like a 93 94 guys. One of the reasons.

"All right Adriana is a scored on a bloop infield hit by pretty premium in the seventh inning as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Philadelphia Phillies five to poor Freeman hit a dribbler to Phillies pitcher Jose Alvarado but instead of going home right away all right turned a second by the time he threw home Adriana's scored the winning run but Braves manager Brian Snitker said to him it was a typical Braves win it seems like it's always there a tight game which is a good thing because then you know I mean it it becomes the normal and and guys you know it didn't phase him at all but we have a Tennessee it seems like the the play that game every night Freeman had a home run and three RBIs Andrew McCutchen and Bryce Harper had solo shots for the bills Gary McPhillips Atlanta

"Steak sports guys. Love that story. Absolutely love that story. Everybody make shot. Well, in the end, everybody happy, Terrific story. Thank you, Kevin and shoulder to Chris Singleton to the top of the fourth inning with the Braves leading the Phillies 321 here on Sunday night Baseball. And it'll be Reese Hoskins, Bryce Harper and J. T Real Mutual. A formidable 234 in the Phillies lineup against Drew Smiley is Hoskins takes a curveball in the dirt for ball one. Skin suit a fly ball to right field his first time up. It's just a guy he has yet to walk this year when I was in for a strike one and one and again really small, sample size eight games. But he walked 116 times. The last time there was a full season 2019 so he's going to get his walks, but He's swinging the bat. Well, right now. 11 tried to check it right there. They appeal to first and he went around. So we just wanted to on Hoskins definitely been one of those guys, probably on the first page of the Re true Outcome type guy where it's a home run, walk or strike out. Checks into one of those boxes. What percentage of the time Smiley Iraq's into the wider with 12 in the dirt, two balls and two strikes and certainly looks like a Phillies team that will score runs. It will probably come down to the pitching. Maybe the bullpen. To determine whether or not they've got realistic playoff aspirations. Obviously Atlanta a terrific team right in their own division to two and Hoskins skies it right near the plate. D'Arnaud tosses away the mask back to the screen and he won't have a play. It's just over the netting, bouncing In the first row.

Kevin Jones shares how he expanded his sports podcasts network

"Hey kevin thanks for joining us. Simon man pleasure to be here appreciate you having me so before we talk about your podcast at work. Let's talk about what you were doing. Prior to your podcast network you like you got your start in radio right. What didn't you like about that medium. Yeah i kind of had a long winding journey before and got to blue wire tv in washington. Dc at wsh nine Where i actually like a digital blogger. It was bryce harper's rookie year. Rt threes rookie ear there space on the website to create content kind of l. Put my way into media at a tv station. That i turned that opportunity into the cleveland. Crowds dot com. They were growing their media operation. They had Space on espn eight fifty. They had their own radio show in studio in the building. The i broke into radio there. I was on the team side for the browns. You kind of don't have your own voice in. They were losing quite a bit of game so eventually took an opportunity. Came biard in san francisco. The main am station. It was a wonderful experience for the most part. I saw kaepernick kneeling i the warriors when titles. I got to go on the radio every day. I created digital content. But i didn't see a path forward for someone like myself who was twenty seventeen. I was twenty eight years old. I wasn't going to become a radio host. I wasn't gonna be on tv. And i didn't see enough opportunities and saw a lot of really good free agents on twitter and that's kind of how i stumbled upon blue ir but Yeah my background is really creating content for older digital media platforms. And were you like talking head on the radio. Where you're like a court correspondent like bose kind of your role way more correspondent. I came here in san francisco. Be at the warriors games calling in kevin. Jones live from game six of the western conference vitals. Kevin give us the mood. It would be five ten minute had sometimes team not just the update guy so i got to show up my personality. I wrote digital content. I was tweeting all the time And just treating you making better content. For came we are the most of the radio host For my age group which was articles about the warriors tweets about the forty niners. I was giving kmby. Are that brand name digitally. I wasn't getting rewarded for it and that really pushed me to found blue wire. 'cause i thought i was actually giving more wrong to the radio station online and wasn't getting paid properly short. Did you feel like you had a brand like where people obviously wouldn't recognize you on the street Because they only heard your voice today. Would you be like a bar like. Oh i totally know who you are times. Nothing crazy but you know. That's really what they found. Blue stems from dairy. Is that person in san francisco. He had a warriors podcast. I would getting drinks with him. If people were literally coming up to him and dabbling in sam. I love light years. Love what you do on twitter. It was up one of my a ha moments before i came into company. Is that twitter. Influencers in sports are so undervalued beat reporters for newspaper are kind of going out of style. In my opinion it's a it's a necessary way to get facts and information but Radio hosts are being replaced. In my opinion my twitter influencers youtube post snapchat users who have built communities of people. Yeah i think it's fair to say i have by own brandon. We have one hundred podcasters. I know we're going to get to blue i They have their own brands. And i think that's what makes us different. What's the world's going that way man. It's niche you can be this fantasy football funny guy you can be nerdy a little on the browns. Anyone can pick their lane right now. And then from the radio you went to go work at facebook on like content strategy. What kind of content where you strategizing on. Yeah it was on. The business helped team work out of building. Sixty one in menlo park so anytime. There was a new product launch across functional team facebook. There's a product manager. There's a marketing manager. There's someone who also writes help contact when a user gets the pay what is and that was kind of my role. It was definitely a lower tier. Get your foot in the door at facebook. But i learned a lot about scaling and how the task and project management and just it was a even though. They're not in the news in a good way. The culture they're working there was pretty good. People respectful a challenge each other in a polite way. I was coming from media where people throwing dictionaries at each other in the room. People were getting fired left and right backstabbing each other. Facebook actually gave me a little bit of hope as weird as it is saying this big evil giant stealing all the ad revenue move fast and break things but working inside. That building collaborated with people. Who admired and it kind of gave me the wings that eight. I can take some elements of facebook. Mix it into a sports media company

"Shallow right field, Bryce Harper's there to make the play to down a coon you back to first, you know, we throw around the term five tool player on a lot of guys who we call five to a player's might not actually be five players. Maybe they don't throw that well or something like that. But If a coup nya can hit for a good average. Everything else is there. The speed the arm, you know the ability to track down the ball. Obviously, the power's there, and the crazy thing about him is he's 23 years old, like he's just scratching the surface is Freddie Freeman. Runner at first two down 31 Atlanta Throw to first in a coon you back in and one thing for me, Dan. It's a little deceptive is when you look at a coup nya physically, he.

Alive: The Drew Robinson Story

"Jeff where does the story of drew robinson began. The story. Drew robinson begins on magic moment lane in las vegas jeff passan is in mlb insider for espn and his work on the story of drew robinson is up now on espn plus it was just all those those little tiny amazing details down to the name of the street that he grew up on that drew me to him. As a person has a character and his story and he was precocious. What's the first thing people think about you guffaw. I did my best to try to lighten the situation with people. I tried to make people laugh. And i thought that i was good at that. He was the kid youngest of three children who would go next door and sneak through his neighbors doggy door and steal their treats so he could bring him back to this menagerie of animals that he had in his house. There were dogs that were cats. They had a pet in a cage and drew is the kid who would tape his feet to a bicycle and go on a trampoline in his backyard and just bounce around without any care his sister brittany used to hate having him around because drew would take off all of his clothes. Run outside and start riding a bike and her friends would say your brothers naked again. He was also an incredible baseball player and from a very young age even though he wasn't big even though he wasn't strong he had the actions. That coaches look at. And say this kid ever fills out. He is going to be something else but when drew was at that age where he needed to tell his feelings to someone where where he needed to explain that he had this. Lingering doubt in his mind that would never go away regardless of the situation. Whether it was with baseball whether it was with school with friends with family there is always something air pushing him toward this negativity that he just could not escape from can think back to. When i was twelve years old playing little league. I was a kid every single time i struck out i would come in and slam. My bad slammed my helmet kreil time. Because i thought that i had to be perfect in every aspect of my life in terms of the scouting report on drew robinson war his best attributes. He had a lot of power. you know. he's left handed hitter. He ended up hitting that growth spurt. Six foot one hundred ninety pounds. Just a beautiful swing gap the gap power. That was gonna grow into something more if his body filled out and when it did man like he was an actual prospect. I fly all get to right field at that splashdown run for drew. Robinson being a prospect in las vegas in two thousand ten pablo was no small thing. There was a player who had left high school and gone to play junior college ball named bryce harper. Yup and there was a player at bonanza high school. One of the rivals of silverado were drew named kris bryant. So this was a pretty historic high school class and drew wound up making all state. Shortstop and teams were really intrigued. Not just by the power but by his versatility to he played shortstop but they thought he projected his second baseman third baseman. Maybe an outfielder. The possibilities of what drew robinson could be as a baseball player were endless. So scouts were noticing the power versatility and in two thousand ten drew graduates from high school and get drafted. He gets drafted by the texas rangers in the fourth round. And it's a huge moment for him but it doesn't translate in the end jeff too. Big league play what happens. Well he took a while to get to the big leagues. And you know we've seen bull durham and we understand kind of on a surface level. What the minor leagues are like. But for drew it was truly agree. I knew i was beard. Don't get me wrong. But in the moment i was still like. Don't mess this up. I wouldn't allow myself to understand. That mistakes are just mistakes. It doesn't define who. I was

Bryce Harper’s Walk-Off Single Gives Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 Win Over New York Mets

"Team impacted by Kobe, 19 sources telling ESPN today's game between the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates likely to be postponed after a Reds player tested positive for the Corona virus, which is heavily impacted teams like the Moreland's and Cardinals more than any other, But other teams that have played those teams have been impacted themselves with days. In quarantine. The Philadelphia Phillies won such team, but they were playing on Friday, cashing in on the faceless Mets. It was a 55 game bottom nine with ducks on the pond for none other than Bryce Harper. Swung on line two right that is going to fall in front of Conforto for a hit he fields on one hop. Here comes Quinn the throw to the plate and he is safe at home plate Safe is the call the throw beat him. Ramos applied the tag Wagner called safe. And for the moment the Phillies have won the game. And here's the call from New York. The headsets come off and he is safe in the game is over, and the Phillies have won it. It is, in fact, a walk off winner is heard on Sports Radio 94 W I. P. So pretty happy about that one. You hold your breath. I would imagine now waiting for that replay to show up on the big screen. Pretty pretty special slide by Roman when they put the kid in there is that ball beat up by a little bit 100%. I mean, you know, being able to have a guy like that on second base. The Mookie Betts decision could haunt the Boston Red Sox for a long time

"It didn't take very long for mookie bats. He didn't even suit up for the regular season game for the dodgers yet. He's got that tonight against the giants, and they signed him to a twelve year extension for three hundred sixty five million dollars, so he's twenty seven years of age. This is a lifetime deal in La. Certainly Senate notice to the rest of the National League. We mean business here. We're going to be competitive for a long time. On the flip side if you're a red sox fan, because it feels like this was the the Red Sox said. Hey, you know what or last year. Hey, we're going to regroup and try to come back with a vengeance here in a couple of years and there was thought that maybe mookie Betts would end up back with the red sox. At some point. He started his career there. beloved there, but the front. Office didn't commit to him financially. And now the deal's going to be a referendum on both of these franchises. We move forward. If vets delivers the dodgers win, they're gonNA look great in the Red Sox are going to be reminded of the one that got away for at least the next decade, but you never know about these big deals I would never want to sign a player for more than five years. I would just be nervous about that. Just playing the odds of you staying healthy you staying competitive of the cost that goes along with that athlete there. But. We see this with a lot of these baseball players. You sign him up if it's Mike Trout and if it's Bryce, Harper if it's Garrett Cole you want to lock them in, and also there's going to be a question. mookie Betts, no longer in that hitter, friendly fenway park fans in both cities are going to keep a close eye on mookie and his performance in La. La should be one of the more intriguing subplots in this unusual season, and if you look at the numbers with Mukhi Bats, you know my feelings about Mookie Betts. He was must see TV when he was playing for the Red Sox and that will be the same implying the dodgers i. just don't know if you'll be the same style of player that he was at fenway. then. He's going to be that at dodger stadium if you start to look at the numbers since twenty sixteen where mookie Betts ranks. And I know that we think my trout, the coronation, your best player in baseball in the future hall of fame, absolutely no problem with that. mookie Betts. Was the east. Coast version of Mike Trout from the standpoint of he could do everything. and. He's getting paid to do everything now a runs. Nobody scored more runs since two thousand sixteen hits third doubles I. Even home runs. He's not a home run hitting guy. He's five nine one eighty and five nine, one eighty. Thank you thank you? Nineteenth in home runs. You look at RBI's. He's up there. He's you know. He's in the top ten in stolen bases batting average. He puts up numbers all around good fielder as well by all accounts, good clubhouse guy, so the dodgers are investing in somebody who will be the face of the franchise for years to

Reserve Bar Dot Com enter the Promo Code Barstool to checkout to receive free ground shipping fifteen dollar value on any goslings rum product J. Hey It is time for the next decade draft. We're GONNA finish it up today. Oh Shit Yup. We've made six picks each so far. We're GONNA make our final six each this draft okay. You concerned allergy. Okay well you said six players and I was like Holy Shit. I know I looked down but then I had the other name of my team. He was written off to the side and I was like all good all good as long as we're on the same page. Now okay. Cool so to refresh memories here for those who have not been following the whole time. I can't imagine anybody hasn't but jared steam Mike Trout Gleyber Torres. Mookie Betts Walker Buehler's Zander Bogart's Mike Clemenger my team Juan Soto Ronald a Kunia cody. Bellinger Fernando Totti's Jack Clarity and Rafael Devers and Taoist Francisco. Indoor Shane Bieber Christian Yelich. Alex Bregman Bryce Harper. This week's guest and ca- Morte as I said we have six picks left jared. You're on the board first with your seventh pick. As a reminder you need a third baseman and outfielder a starting pitcher a d. h. slash utility person a first basement and a catcher. So is this. Jared to me or jared to you jared. Oh No. This is jared me you. It's right back to the original order. So it's it's three outfielders first second short. Third Catcher D. H. Utility. No no no. That's one position it's just slash utility. I just didn't want you to think you had to actually pick A. D. H. Gotten and how many pitchers three total okay so you've selected to Yep Yep okay. I've got my old draft board over here so jurors three pitchers total. Jared has two so far Dallas and I each have one So jared at your convenience Sir this is great I love the I love the draft a lot. A lot of great names still on my board really happy with my position. But it's not about me right now. It's it is about me so if we could all just chill for a second. We could all just relax. Don't want to make any rash decisions here. Yeah should be fully informed competent in your selection. I'll man I am. There's two positions that I'm going back and forth on I can see that I mean what Dallas wanted to say if you don't feel it now might be in the market for for a D. H. Yeah you just say yeah. I know I know exactly what you're saying I will. I will sit on him. I will just sit on him. He will just be the D. H. Two so you can't overlook don't overlook me in this. I'm between the two of you. Yeah that's right and I know who you're talking about is the craving the middle of this donut. Yeah I mean it's a IT'S A. It's a ballsy pick. Yeah I mean on pure pure production to this point. It's early but this is about the next. Ten years is about the next ten years so with that in mind. My Next Selection Pedro Alonzo. Wow obviously obviously a good pump fake by you there. I'll tell you why I love the pick. I'll tell you why I love it and why. I think you could have justified going. Alonzo as early as three rounds ago because it is not clear other than him who else is actually good and young and at first base. What Deng Don Johnson? How old is awesome? It's what I think. Two years older maybe than pedal on I don't know I'm not saying he's old. I'm saying Lake. Look at thirty thirty eight. Yeah He's twenty six and holds Pedro. Lonzo I'm looking. He is twenty-five so you're separates them all right. Well maybe I'll take metals. I think the point stands that there is not a lot of young up and coming first Baseman who are actually proven assets if you WANNA put Matt Olsen in that category with the Lonzo. That's fine but I don't think there's anybody else. Lonzo is in the category with meddlesome. You're talking about okay okay. You're missing period using runs into fifty plus tanks in his first year. And we're giving him the best first basement title in baseball. I think you're miss. I think you're missing the larger point here. Which is that. You can't name another person after that. I'd Oh I mean after the one that you said we could yes yes so after Matt Olsen who is on the draft board. Of course I mean reese Hoskins what he is after twenty nine thousand nine Josh Bell. Basically riding a strong one half of season right yes while we beef with any of that commentary there as not initially sure anybody else. I was trying to. I was trying to give Pete Alonzo and that pick credit. Your Madison was not adequately respected in the in the intro to the conversation. Thank you for dressing you. Welcome Alonzo is the pick pick that that brings to me and I'm absolutely going to do it. I'm going to install wha junior is my d. h wow walk. Oh man keep in mind keep in mind. The trades are available. We've seen plenty of trades in the past so just keep that in mind. He's just WanNa let you know that he's available. Welcome back. Jared love backing Dallas. You're up a toupee but all right. Yeah that was a mistake. I got one more outfield. Spot also got shit. I mean I always feel like I just got forced into this right now and I don't like that feeling I well. I'm interested to see what that means. We're having a conversation faulk and I got two picks here all right. I gotta go. Oh Shit Man I start the truth. I just feel like these spots you're going to. There's nobody there afterwards. It's going to be doing doing it. I got it I I feel like I almost Hewitt it. I GIMME Realm Utah and nettlesome. Alright Yeah you can't certainly you couldn't have talked all that garbage in the not taken. Olsen. Could've yeah you could have sure I have the great pleasure of announcing breaking the first trade the next decade draft we have a trade we have a trade just like Jimmie Foxx and Ted Williams were swapped in the all time player draft. Perhaps one day we will look back at this as this generation's version of Fox Williams Pete Alonzo's coming team. Just and Vlad Junior team jared find God leroy classics swap of One Pick. Pick pick taking one spot apart. You gotTa Love It. That's just an old fashioned baseball trade. That's all that is just an old fashioned baseball trade happy. I feel someone said it was like when you Miss Ted Williams and then we rectified. That yeah all right so give me a second. I need to adjust my lineup here. I've already done it. I've already made the adjustments okay. I know who I'm GonNa pick then I am going to take. I will dwell on this for very long. I'M GONNA take a second baseman. I'm GonNa Take Ozzy Albee's we're jared. You're up for two to right here. Correct all right so see. I'm going to take five star while jared. Thanks some draft commentary. Five starting pitchers still yet to be taken in this draft. Why ARMS GONNA be coming off the board boys I I. I feel like we're all at the point where you're trying to way though you're making decisions right now on your head trying to figure out where the grounds crew is going to end up voting percent correct does the grounds crew understand that drove. That's a huge part of my Vlad. Pick if I'm being honest I then traded him of course but sure but I mean because there's I mean you could pick three names in a row essentially from anybody in the starting pitching pool. Yeah I mean I I think I I know who I want I. That's the first step that is the Oh man one of them is one of these picks is kind of a gamble and I don't know how popular it will like. That's why am I trying to trying to win a baseball game or my trying to win the fuck in vote on twitter. We'll that's what you're trying to. You're clearly trying to win the vote on twitter. I'm trying to do both I'm trying to do. You can't do both because one team doesn't equal that team based on based on based on the voting. Yeah I mean I think I know. NBA trade deadline: Winners, losers and teams in between

"Flurry of trades in the NBA a blockbuster in baseball mortar common colds to memorialize Kobe Bryant and highly visible way joined by ESPN's Howard Bryant good morning hours good morning Scott how are you I'm fine thanks is awesome aggressive deals in the NBA trade at the trade deadline who do you rack up as the winners and losers well and I'm not sure about the winners and losers of the trade deadline but certainly the winners and losers right now of the first half of the season you've got a look at the Lakers in the west and and the Milwaukee Bucks I think they are head and shoulders above everybody else how could you hold on for a moment our you know head yes government for you almost got me for a second there's got yeah Milwaukee is terrific and and they're great they're holding on the crushed Philadelphia the other night I thought coming into the season it was gonna be Philadelphia Milwaukee Los Angeles and Los Angeles Lakers and the clippers but I'm not too sure about the other two yet but we've got a long way to go I think trade deadline wise I think Miami Heat got much much better they got on great good dollar they made a very good deal with Memphis I think that Philadelphia tried to shore up of making a deal with with the warriors and de Angelo Russell going to Minnesota who knows what that's gonna do maybe there's a late run there but the bottom line is coming forward right now I still think that you've got two teams in this league disappointed the Boston Celtics didn't do anything but I think it's the box and the Lakers right now an official memorial for Kobe Bryant's been set for February twenty fourth they've been calls to make his image a permanent part of the game you even rent a Poland that did I did I read a little Twitter poll this morning which was soundly rejected to replace Kobe Bryant is Jerry west to is the logo of the NBA with cut him a cell away from the silhouette of your request yes absolutely and it would have been fitting in some ways because Jerry west was the the man behind making sure Kobe Bryant ended up with the Lakers making that draft day trade with the Charlotte Hornets and I I understand add on one on one level the need or they want to want to memorialize Kobe I also understand that the NBA has been around since nineteen forty seven and maybe it's time to create a new logo Jerry west has been there fifty years since nineteen sixty nine however I do think that if you're going to think about and I'm a new logo or and a modern logo it's probably got to be Michael Jordan right or but I got an arm and a leg yeah but I also understand the desire right now for people to feel that something should be done for Kobe Bryant after after all that happened Boston Red Sox LA Dodgers Minnesota Twins switching sports agreed to a three team trade Tuesday that's been perhaps delay it has been delayed because of some medical records Mookie Betts has what they call a generational player MVP Golden Gloves traded to the Dodgers are the red Sox making the worst roster decision since they sold Babe Ruth's contract well if you red Sox fans are very happy about it especially because it's a generational player Mookie Betts is a beloved player two years ago he wins the M. B. P. and they won the World Series you're looking at a guy that fans just adore and it's a very cynical move in some ways but it also may very well be a huge business deal for them because number one we know that super star players now at this level after Manny Machado deal after the Bryce Harper deal your it in and now the the Gerrit Cole deal you're looking at three hundred and fifty four hundred million dollars to sign a player and if Mookie Betts didn't want to play with the red Sox will find out over the next several weeks and months if that was the case then of course they had to move them but on the other hand if that's not the case the red Sox are a super power they can sign whoever they want they've got money it's looking like a cynical deal we will see I'm good at and by the way I got as you know your cubs aren't far behind because you've got a guy like Chris Brian who's another cornerstone player and what does that mean for the cubs keep these players and the fans love him yeah thank you very much ESPN's Howard Bryant thanks so much no my pleasure

The nationals in Phillies in Phillies, of course, Bryce Harper against his former team roles in Detroit to take on the Tigers Mariners go east to take on the Indians in Cleveland. The Braves are in Florida take on the Marlins. The Blue Jays in Texas to take on the Rangers range the Red Sox and White Sox from Chicago Mets and brewers in Milwaukee. And a couple of games in the NFL west Diamondbacks and Rockies in Colorado and the dodgers and the Padres. So that's what the school board looks like tonight. And again Tyler Beatty will make two thousand nineteen debut after fine one point nine nine era in Sacramento as far as the lineup is concerned tonight for the giants against the Cincinnati Reds. Former? And Yankee Sonny gray will go to the mount he's only four but not bad three point six four era. He's had some bad luck against Beatty. Joe panics gonna lead off and play. Second base mentioned my Gerber. He's going to be in left field. Again. If you missed it Gerber three fifty seven batting average and one five seven Opie s so he's been good. He's in the two holes. Play third base. He's hitting in the five whole Brennan Crawford. Still trying to snap out of that slump easing six and obviously playing short Kim implores hitting seven and he's in center field. "My point is Bryce Harper outside of the weather and more of a salary Bryce opposite a better situation. Philadelphia's four no Philadelphia is expected to be a contender. They're expected anticipated to make the postseason ain't nobody accused Anaheim angels of doing that the Los Angeles angels of Anaheim, anybody accusing them of doing that. You got auspice. It ain't gonna correct. The problem you need more you need more than trout, Bryce Harper. By the way, I'd make the argument better fan base. Philadelphia that rabid fan base that let you off the hook. Let's go hold you accountable. They drove up from they drove Dan from Philly to DC just Abedian support Bryce Harper in his first game back. On home turf of the Washington nationals way played in start for the last few years. Let me tell you something right now. Those bulls they're misguided. Now. Somebody was steaming. I mean, hey, what's your problem them? I mean, they had the right to boo villa. Pig customer. Yeah. We know. That's not the point. Here is the point that the Washington nationals do everything they could to keep Bryce Harper. Your first offer was for three hundred million not three hundred and thirty million a hundred million of it was deferred over thirty three years. So essentially what you were doing was you came to Bryce Harper with the kind kinda low ball offer, you knew neither him nor Boris would accept and as Scott Boris that is as a result, you knew that he was leaving your practically push them out the damn dog. And by the way, if I remember correctly new, no the report stated that second offered a Bryce Harper was worse than the first offer. When you knew Manny Machado was going to get three hundred billion. When you could interpret their travels, go get over four hundred million. You come to Bryce Harper with one hundred million dollars deferred over thirty three years. You didn't wanna keep that? Boy. You want to keep that, man. You pushed about the door. Of your fans of the Washington nationals. How come you born in the organization? How come you? Now, bowling them. That's what I want to know. Because as far as that's exactly what the hell you should be doing. That is exactly what the hell. You should be doing. I mean, you absolutely, positively have got to be kidding me. Twenty six years old with his upside. And you're going to come to him. With an offer where a third of the money is deferred. And we aint talking about a deferment over a couple of years. We're talking about deferred over thirty three years. So in other words, his two hundred million instead of three hundred million and other one hundred million dollars. Ladies and gentlemen, we will defer. Up until Bryce Harper. It's fifty nine years old. Think about how much damn sense that makes that's what they did. And nobody's talking about that. But it needs to be talking about because I would say this. It was very disrespectful. It was very disrespectful to make a star of his caliber. Such an offer. It was insult. Think about that. What started the, you know would have accepted that Secondly, by the way, you gotta managing day Martinez, who I respect, but I got news for you know, here in better than dusty Baker so far not good. It was better than the dusty than the US. Dave martinez. This look at the numbers. So I'll look at it from that standpoint..

MLB live stream 2019: how to watch today's baseball from anywhere

"Is baseball actually doing something. Good for young people. Was it the three hour and forty seven minute cubs game yesterday. We'll get to that Chris black dollar here on ESPN one thousand and the ESPN app. Did you notice on Twitter at MLB? So the official Twitter handle for major league baseball. They've been tweeting each and every day. We have more live at bats in today's options are from the mentions who do you want to see? And then they list four players that you can vote on. And what it is is throughout the day whoever wins and yesterday, the winner was havi buyers course, so each and every time he came up to bat MLB streamed live on Twitter havi buyers and his at bats right there in the time line right there for the consumer right there for the young person to observe and to witness and watch someone who's very exciting in the game of baseball the day before it was Mike trout the day before that opening day. It was Bryce Harper. So each and every day this season. And if you go to Twitter handle you can vote on who the in game at bats will be streamed throughout the day. And I saw this like this is fantastic. This is exactly the type of thing. Baseball needs to do to garner. The attention from young people. Because it's not this conversation of we have to change the game. Baseball's a fine game. It's the overall concept that baseball doesn't know how to grasp the attention of the young person, and this is a start because over the years the reason the NFL and the NBA has succeeded with young people is because of the ability to give the product to the consumer and the easiest way possible. The NBA will not remove any highlight that Adam that Felix that any person listening puts out on their own social media platform to share with their friends to let them know. I'm watching this Brooklyn nets game and diangelo Russel is going off. Here's a highlight tweet. But if you used to do that with baseball baseball would come in and remove your video because it's against their policy for video sharing which is a problem because then young people are not seeing in their feeds and their timelines, the exciting things are taking place throughout the night throughout the day in major league baseball, you could basically watch every Zayn. Williamson highlight seconds after it happened in your timeline seconds. Hundreds of thousands of people sharing retweeting posting videos of Zion. Williamson doing something great. And now, everyone has a social awareness of it. This is great for major league baseball that. Now, they are going to share and put out there right there. I I don't have to sign up for a package. I don't have to have a special cable provider. I don't have to have a major league baseball season pass. I don't have to have any of this. They're just going to give me the best players in baseball each and every day a look in throughout the game. So I don't have to do anything extra. Plus, I don't have to sit through the four hour baseball game. And wait for the Mike trout the Bryce Harper. Hobby by is to do something amazing. I can see it right there in the feed which I thought was pretty cool because back to last night's cubs game. The first ten Rangers the face their former teammate didn't put the ball in play as six walked enforced. Struck out. According to the allies sports bureau. That's the most hitters not to put a ball in play to start a game in franchise history last night's game. Both the cubs and the White Sox. I watch a lot of the White Sox game very slow very boring. And that's what the game has come to because of the three outcomes strikeout walk or homerun. And that's what baseball is. And that's why when you have the conversation of what a lot of people were talking about baseball season started Jeff passan wrote about it. Others kurtenbach in the Mercury News wrote about it that you get a hit once every nine minutes in baseball, and that is slowly killing the sport. Because no action is actually taking place on the field. I get it. Their strategy be between the pitcher and and the battery and watching all those foul offs, and the pictures and all that stuff that's part of the game. But there's no action on the actual field. And I think it's good that baseball came out and props to them that they're trying to target young people by giving them the product right there in your feet. Live streaming hobby buyers every about yesterday. Yeah. I mean, you're not going to change the game itself. So you try to change what you can as far as interaction goes. Right. People come flying in with. We gotta move the mound. We need to do this. Now, we need to play seven innings. Now, we need we need to have all these different rules. That's not what young people are saying young people are not saying changed the game of baseball. Just it was a better sport to watch when it was played differently. That's the problem is that these strategy from all of these organizations has changed so dramatically that you get three outcomes. And the three outcomes are not that exciting because two of them are guys just standing around doing nothing. Well, I mean, look you can't teams for trying to win games. Because the way that's the way you wouldn't go. But, but that's why it's it's something that is happening moving forward that no one can really stop. Because what are you gonna go to all the teams and say you can't do that anymore? When a guy is fouling off pitches. Just trying to walk. No you have to put the ball in play. That's not gonna work, and what are the answers that. I've always said is. Well, the reason you know, basketball is more popular in these. These stars are more marketable in the NFL is because. You see action from these guys all the time. Russell Westbrook is on the court all of the time. He's for the majority of the game. Lebron James is on the court for a majority of the game. If I wanna watch Bryce Harper havi buyers or whoever it is they're up four times in three hours in what yesterday was along with the cubs game, three hours and forty seven minutes for four at bats. Okay. But there's no way you're not going to change that you're not going to say, you're only batting four guys. And that's going to be you know, that's gonna be your your batting order guys over and over again. So you're not going to do that. But finding ways to put that like the MLB did putting that on social media for free is a way around that the way you can put that out there. So more people can see your stars nationally and not just regionally because that's the other problem with baseball is it's such a regional sport. Is we everybody I just named two guys that I named a bull that I want to see on the court all the time. I made Russell Westbrook and LeBron James. Yeah. Now, but you can watch. Lebron all you want. I know like those games are on national TV all the time. And you know, the regionalized thing like, that's where you get the guy on the other side of the conversation who wants to do the smarty pants deal and tell you that the TV ratings are fantastic. Locally locally. Yeah. Of course. Yeah. We understand that. So here, here's the comeback toback guy. Right. Okay. Tv ratings are great locally. Yeah. How about the White Sox? Await. Well, they've I mean, the Qods ratings are fantastic. No. But we have two teams in the city and one gets completely ignored is anyone watching the White Sox. That guy. Oh, okay. That one guy on the street. But the point is you got two teams here and one of them struggles big time with TV ratings the other crushes it. Okay. So take that into consideration. When you give the regionalized TV ratings are up deal. Yeah. We get it. Boston Red Sox fans. Love the Red Sox. We get the Yankee fans loved the Yankees all those hot Marlins fans who are just waiting away. No, no one's watching the Marlins. See like, that's the thing with baseball. Is you can always come back with like, okay? We'll look at the World Series ratings. Those dropped every NFL game basically beats World Series games now in the ratings. If you want to do the ratings conversation. Yeah. So like, and that's where I it's this whole conversation now. Well, putting the live at bats in the stream on your Twitter feed help I don't know. Maybe he knows I think it's smart. I think it's spun it can't hurt it has nothing to do with actually changing the game. It's just promoting the stars and promoting the brand which I. Is a smart thing for baseball. The do. I think it's a really smart thing for baseball because you have to do all these little things the kind kind of stop what's taking place from taking place, right? Like because changing the game. I think is is not realistic. And the way I look at it. Right. We're not gonna talk politics here. But I think a good analogy would be the way people look at global warming. There's information out there. There's facts that are out there. We understand what's taking place to the globe right now to the world. And what our future is likely to be right? Yeah. We understand what's happening, right. It's the same with baseball. It's like death by a thousand cuts, right? Like, we see what's happening the writings on the wall. But what can we really do? Are we gonna stop driving our cars the rally like the like people talk about global warming? But we all drive everywhere. Anyway. So what are we really doing? Yeah. It's like we can't really change the game of baseball because it's baseball. But what are we doing to really the earth many years old? The average baseball fan is fifty seven years old, and it's only getting older and older ten years ago. The average baseball fan was forty seven years old get it like the getting it's not getting any.

Will Bryce Harper to worth his $330 million contract with the Phillies?

"You know, three hundred thirty million dollars at dominated the headlines in the off season, although we would have hoped it'd happened earlier. It finally happened and Bryce Harper is a Philly. I gotta talk to you write about expectation as it comes for Bryce here. And what does Phillies seem Kennedy chief because if you looked team that Bryce left is probably still the favourite in the you know, that being the nationals how much pressures on this guy. What's reasonable, and what do you expect from the Phillies? Well, I mean, you know, aside from Bryce Harper before they ever got rice Harper. I think they quietly got themselves. Very much better. Like you. You look at between getting the trade for g JT rail dog getting Andrew mccutchen. I know is not necessarily the MVP player, but he's still a very solid major league player and at times plays like an MVP to go there and get you know, Roberson in the bullpen and to do the things they did, gene sicker. They really tightened their team up. And then you go add star power and a guy middle lineup. I think they're going to be a tremendous team when I look at the division. I know the Mets got better. The Braves are good last year. I look at the Phillies is the favourite. I I just think what their starting rotation one through five they they have some solid performers there. And they just they dressed a lot of issues to get better. And I think you know, it's it's gonna be interesting, but three hundred thirty million dollars for one. Wow. It's a lot. The last couple years later. Yeah. It sure does is better. We're that

MLB Spent Less On Player Salaries Despite Record Revenues In 2018

"Thousand unin study shows that despite some record contracts signed this off season salaries around baseball are continuing to go down. According to the Associated Press the average salary of the eight hundred seventy two players on rosters and injured list. At the start of the season is four point three six million dollars. That's down from four point four one million at the start of last year and four point four five million from two thousand seventeen even though. Oh, Bryce Harper. Manny Machado and Mike trout signed record deals this spring. The free agent market the past two seasons has been very weak for just about everyone else. Redoing baseball's financial structure is expected to be a major point of contention as the players union and the league negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement over the next three

"Even with huge new contracts for Bryce Harper and Manny Machado major league baseball is average salary is on track to drop on opening day for an unprecedented second straight season. Look at the numbers by the Associated Press found that the eight hundred seventy two players on rosters and injured lists average four point three six million dollars down from four point four one million at the start of last season. You know, the players are gonna have to fight harder. So bad for them. But that'd be able to take care of their families. And I'm not sure a drop from four point four one million four point three six million. That's the average the average

"Today might trout sign. The biggest contract in American sports history. Twelve years four hundred and thirty million dollars. Not only does he get the most money over the course of his contract beating Bryce Harper. But he also surpasses that Grank for the highest average annual value. No. Just saying. Wow. Oh, hi. Thank you. I like. Yeah. I crazy. And you know, why that sixty eight dollars a minute for the next twelve years. Would anyone make over a dollar a minute? Plenty of people would. But I'm just saying like how like it's not a huge percentage of people that make a dollar a minute. Sixty bucks an hour. Think about sixty dollars an hour. That's a ton of money. Yeah. Gene. He's getting paid crazy. Second right insanity. He's like Joel Embiid in the Hulu commercial, Hulu has live sports. Then they just throw money at him who has live sport that. That's my trout just hand me the money as I'm walking down the street because I'm getting unbelievable. But you know, what as a player? He absolutely deserves it as a baseball player strictly. The most gifted baseball player we have seen. Since Ken Griffey junior was in his prime in Seattle, and many people would argue might trout is better. But it brings up an interesting. Discussion. This contract empowers Mike trout to continue to do nothing for the game of baseball in terms of promoting it might trout does very very very very little to promote the game of baseball. And this contract empowers them to continue to do the same thing. The question is is that the right thing. Like is it incumbent upon somebody like Mike trout to promote the game of baseball. Should he be promoting the game of baseball? Should he make more appearances? Should he tried to be more commercials? Should he try to be on sitcoms or whatever it is host Saturday Night, Live, whatever they it is should Mike trout. Be more of an ambassador for the game of baseball because he's not. Four hundred thirty million dollars mean that he doesn't have to because if he's still worth that much to an organization, then why should he have to go above and beyond to promote himself? The angels in baseball. Or is it like, okay, dude? Like. You're getting four hundred thirty million dollars. You think you could? You know appear on a few more talk shows. I know they can't make him do that. I'm talking about the just the the public opinion thing. Do you think that he should nowadays game paid four hundred thirty million dollars over the next twelve

"Okay. So fact checked this whole when you count firm flation, it's not the the best contract ever. And there's something to it. Because Giancarlo Stanton sign that contract in two thousand fourteen cents then on average, the US dollar has seen inflation rate rise of about one point two three percent per year. So prices in this country or about six point three percent higher than they were back in two thousand and fourteen and he only made five million extra dollars on a contract that surpass three hundred million dollars. So Dan, you are correct with your take does anyone care about that though? I don't think that I think people here the three hundred thirty million and Scott Boras is egos soaked and savvy enough to know that you throw that number out there people don't care much of the about the math after that. We just thinking of Boers reputation. Do we know that Harper wasn't like? His ear saying I just want the biggest baseball contract ever know what a great point. But STAN was saying he wanted the longest contract he could possibly get the rare. Great point by Chris, Cody, even he seems surprised by it. Yeah. But about Scott Boras. Okay. Bryce Harper was in his ear. He really had to fight. Scott Scott Boris on that I want the biggest contract ever. But if it's report he said is saying that he was offered four years one hundred and sixty five million. So that he would have got his one percent of that. And then in four years been able to negotiate a new contract stay, why do we care so much about this rebel create an entire cottage industry around the idea of sports business and explaining sports business to people who clearly care about these numbers. Why do we care this way? We are talking more baseball because of these damn contracts than we ever talk when they're playing game. We haven't even got into signing. Bonuses, dan. Did you see Bryce he's only making ten million this year because of that twenty million dollar signing bonus. He's getting that's awesome. Oh my God. I would signed a one million dollar contract year thirteen years one million dollars, and then got an a three hundred and seventeen million dollar signing bonus. I love that ESPN tweeted out that Bobby Baena is gonna be paid by the Mets for three years after the Phillies. Stop. Paying Bryce Harper that Bobby in the nineties signed that contract that paid him a million dollars a year every year, and I've seen business people break down and say that's not the way to do it. You shouldn't do it that way. But Baena was like, look, I'm not blowing my money. I'm going to make a million dollars a year for three or four years after Bryce Harper makes basically winning the lottery every year every year. How would you do if you win the lottery, would you take the lump sum or would you do the yearly payouts 'cause if you do the lump sum, they cut it in half, basically? And then you gotta pay taxes like another house. You're basically getting a quarter of whatever the winnings are. But if you take it all over like thirty year pay you get all of it. And then you lose half of it in taxes or whatever. But you know, you look I'm gonna get like thirty million dollars this year, and I'll never blow look I can probably blow four hundred million dollars. I mean, I don't think I actually could. But everybody does it. So I guess I could to everybody does a lot. Yeah. Dan winters. Not very many people do not. No, wait a minute. Do the testing. Yes. Lottery winners. Go broke it like an eighty percent rate. Yes. They're not the ones that are winning field million..

"Reconvened to banter about brace Harper siding with the Philadelphia Phillies at long last for thirteen years and three hundred thirty million dollars with no opt out to know swell ops. Jeff will be relieved wherever he is. And just a no trade clause and money and lots of years, and that's that. So what's your initial reaction? Well, first of all, I one and also the listeners one because they're looking for they if you're asking them who who do you want to analyze the Bryce Harper signing, they're going to tell you I what that fake podcast bailiff. Beard one. It does seem like a long road to get to this doesn't it? It. Sure does this is kind of like maybe a little soft, but an extraordinarily long length of contract presumably to game the salary cap, but it's also in its own way, kind of unremarkable. I was just looking, you know, Sarah's wrote a piece on the athletic that said these adjusted for inflation or like the seventh and tenth biggest contracts ever rich when you consider how great these players are. And how young they are. And how rich baseball teams are. Now doesn't seem that impressive yet. For some reason when we talk about contracts, everyone just agrees to pretend that inflation doesn't exist and just whatever the dollar amount if it's the biggest dollar amount than it's the biggest contract ever. So technically, this is five million dollars more than Carlos Stanton's extension. So it is the biggest contract ever. But it is not really the biggest contract ever. It's a pretty big contract. And. It's a reasonable contract. You're right. It took a really long time to get here. This was somewhat predictable certainly wants Machado signed. Because there was so much pressure on the Phillies to get this done. Because if they didn't end up with one of these guys, they're fans, we're gonna riot. So they had to make this move. At least they didn't want their fence to right for the wrong reasons. Sometimes they right for the right reasons. But I think this makes all the sense in the world for the Phillies to add this player at this time because they were in exactly the spot where you need to make an impact move like this. And this was the only impact player remaining. Here's the thing that I don't always understand. It seems like when guys are signing these monumentally, huge contracts. They are VI and we're talking about, you know, there's a no trade clause in this deal, which obviously, you know, he he can wave if he so chooses, but we're talking about thirteen years of this man's working life. And I know that only. Presents seven or eight months year. But thirteen years is is a long time. And you wonder like, I don't know. I I like the city of Philadelphia, it's a cool town. But like, I can't imagine how much more money you would have to pay me to this is the city that booth. Mike schmidt. You know what I mean? At what point like Manny Machado goes to San Diego like San Diego. Maybe isn't the most exciting town in America. But it sure is nice. Like if I was a baseball player who was like chill. You know? I of course, I would wanna live in San Diego. It's a it's the perfect town for chill jock to live in. But like what like what is the salary difference? That would lead you to go play in Philadelphia city that is prime famous..

"We'll get you up to six eastern time one hour from now you get Golic and wingo, of course, taking you for a few hours. We're going to get into the streak stopping. Game for James harden last night, thirty two straight thirty point games. We'll stay at thirty two. And it does not see number thirty three. He'll have to start a new Karl Anthony towns. Incredible rebound to bigger than any of the twenty one. He gathered last night for the wolves. And also the latest drama surrounding the Lakers abroad James because what happened last night. Causes more concern consternation negativity around that. Once proud franchise, we'll get all those spots for you. Coming up in a matter of minutes. Meanwhile, Manny Machado was the first shoe to drop ten years three hundred million dollars San Diego Padres. Right. Why he went there? How he went there? We debated we discussed many have. But it's in the books. It's done. It's in the past. He's a Padre we thought and have for a long time that whenever one shoe drop the other one would will one did Machado. We thought Harper Bryce Harper would be. Next logical signing somewhere shortly after Machado why because Machado set the market so Harper says more than ten to three hundred dollar deal. We think the Phillies are close we've heard that for a week or so we've heard it from other outlets. We've heard it from Rhode Island. Still not done. And then the news comes that. Wait a minute. Now the dodgers out of this thing yet. Right. We already know the giants met with him in Vegas has people. They've been a franchise that he apparently has been somewhat intrigued by the White Sox are still hopeful. Although it's probably hope against hope here. The nationals are still hopeful, but they're probably in the same boat as the White Sox, the Phillies seemed to be the most legit possibility because they appear to be willing to go for the long term tenure deal that he's looking for in excess of the three hundred million dollars that Machado is getting from San Diego. But then the dodgers are the mix and ten years for the dodgers does not sound like that is going to happen. So why did the dodger brass meet with Harper and his people in Vegas as the story goes, here's ESPN major league baseball insider Jeff passer, it was just a stop in check. That's all you know, they stopped over in Las Vegas. They thought hey, let's discuss a five six year deal somewhere in that vicinity. And that's what the dodgers want. They're looking at a short term deal. They don't wanna. Commit to the decade, plus long deal that Bryce Harper wants. And that's why at this point even though they have as much money as they do even though they have the incentive to get Bryce Harper. This doesn't seem like a match that's going to happen in less the dodgers stretch beyond that short-term deal that they'd like yet. Remember, there's room here with the dodgers. Because they made the deal with the Cincinnati Reds a couple of months back. Yes. Matt camp. Alex would all go to Cincinnati. They clear some cap space for what everybody presumed. We would be the signing of Bryce Harper. ESPN radio is presented by progressive insurance. Drivers switched to progressive could save an average of six hundred sixty eight dollars. But the dodgers really haven't done anything. Yes. They went out. They got from Arizona center fielder. AJ pollock. So they've spent a little bit of that money. But it's nothing like what people assumed would happen as soon as the dodgers made the move of sending camp, we can do Cincinnati. So now, they want a short term deal. Nobody is really throwing out ideas from any reliable sources on what kind of money we're talking about. I assume for a short term deal you'd go more than the thirty to thirty two million dollar per year, guaranteed that the Phillies apparently are going, wouldn't you? I mean, if you don't you sell it. We'll go short term bet on yourself a little bit Bryce, but we're gonna pay you more annually than Philly over ten years. I don't understand why anybody. I do. Here's a problem. There's a lot of people that assume the only thing that matters to Bryce Harper's money. Right. And he's going to take whoever offers more. Why do we think that because we see that almost on a daily basis for professional athletes, and it's hard to blame? Right. Because there's a sense of pride in this to wait a minute. Now, you might think to yourself if you're Bryce Harper. I'm better than Manny Machado numbers would say you're about to save as many Machado, but I play harder Manny Machado. But I don't have any baggage like Manny Machado. So I'm going to make more than thirty million dollars a year. Then Manny Machado. It's a pride thing. I mean, as we sit here, sir. What's the difference? If you're making thirty two million a year or thirty million a year is that life changing that two million dollars. No. I get that. I understand that more than him more valuable to a team that him. So why would he go to the dodgers? Why would he go? Then that's a valid question. Like, if you can get what you want a long term ten year deal somewhere else make more than Manny Machado and the law. You know, the the highest money long-term deal in the history of the game. Why would you go to LA in the short term and that is a concern in Los Angeles. According to ABC seven curt Sandoval everybody here is wondering you Scott Boras playing the dodgers. Why would Bryce Harper do a five year deal with the dodgers? I could see him doing maybe a two year deal baby. But if the Phillies are already offering him over three hundred million for ten years the dodgers aren't gonna play that game. There's no way. And they've made that clear that was up and Fitz. Infants last night. Because if he does turn that down. I'm not a math major. But as BUSTER only explains ESPN insider, he would be turning down eight ton of cash. So you're Bryce Harper. And you decide you know, what I'd rather play for the dodgers. I'd rather play for the giant. It would be basically be like one hundred and seventy five to two hundred million dollar gamble. You would say, you know, what I'd rather shorter term deal. I'd rather not playing Philadelphia whatever his reasons are, but Manny be walking away from a lot of money. This is my favorite thing. I heard yesterday BUSTER again now. Think about how long this has dragged on since the Machado signing K one shoe dropped the other one has not yet. Now, we're into spring training. Okay. Now, we're into valuable time. We know Bryce can hit. We know Bryce has been out hitting. We'd OBE Bryce probably taken plenty of fly balls. We know prices shape. We don't have to worry about that. But when you join a new team, there's a chemistry aspect of this that has to take hold now, you've got one hundred sixty two games. Look if there's a ten game judgment here in the regular season. It's probably the biggest thing in the world. But at some point Philadelphia has got to begin to assemble Elida, right? Put pen to paper. What can we look at? Let's start employing this particular lineup which we think will be are likely go to everyday lineup. We could slot Bryce into right field. We'll have him hit ahead of him have him hit behind him. Let's see how this works out there. Not having the benefit of they don't even know if one of the best players in the entire game of baseball will be on their team or not and BUSTER only saying. And look here's what I would do Phillies. I was told over the weekend. They're competent. They're gonna sign Harper. They feel like they have the biggest offer on the table. And the dodgers have jumped there had been conversations with the giants and other teams at some point if I'm John nettleton. I'm calling Scott Boris as I said to Bob, and I'm saying you got twenty four hours if you don't want to take her offer, that's fine. But we're not gonna have this thing drag out we're going to pivot and perhaps focus on other players. Because at some point I feel like you gotta push Bryce Harper to make a decision the longer. This goes on the later he gets into camp the less chance that he's accessible be at the outset of his deal. Could you imagine? After all of this the Phillies pulling their offer to Bryce Harper. You know yesterday on this show alley a producer jumped in and asked. You know, essentially like would Philly fans boo Bryce Harper. And I said the way he plays the game. I don't necessarily think. So unless he changes the way he plays the game. Now if he goes in an over forty eight slump right or he boots three balls in a ball game. And right, I guess things change, but they would appreciate a player like him. But here's the problem now. Now, there's a feeling. That Bryce Harper Scott Boris. We're kind of holding this team. They're backed into a corner, right? I don't wanna use the word hostage. It's a bad word years. But they're certainly hamstringing the Phillies. The Phillies are clearly willing to spend money. They're holding money for harp. Could they go out help solidify the rotation or the bullpen with some of the names that are still out there? I don't know. Maybe they would maybe they would. They need an answer. They didn't know if they've got him or not. But do you throw in all tomato Bryce Harper. This you're willing to spend upwards of thirty two thirty three million dollars a year. Potentially for ten years. Do you endanger that by throwing out the offer? I liked the idea. But at some point. He's gotta make a decision because you as a franchise need to know who you're right fielder is who your cleanup hitter is were you slide them into the lineup. How guys will respond to happen Bryce Harper around? I don't mind this idea. But it doesn't come without risk saying you've got twenty four hours. And the longer this goes that fan base in Philly might start to look at Bryce Harper a little differently because they love their teams as much as any fan base in any city. They love their teams. And if he turns it into Bryce Harper against the Phillies, even if it becomes Bryce Harper. As part of the Phillies might be a little bit of an adjustment period or cooling off period that needs to happen before that fan base. Fully embraces him. "However, Kawhi Leonard will not depart this game. He's got to sit out due to some rest. Cherney till the Turney canteens Virginia Tech Duke Tuesday at six thirty eastern on ESPN radio and on ESPN. ESPN radio and the ESPN app filling in today, ROY Cheung, Tim Montemayor with you and a pleasure to be with you. The biggest story in sports today. I think Royce continues to be the pursuits of Bryce Harper, by the way, by the way. Please tell me that you're excited that spring training. Baseball is underway. I'm very excited because that means that summertime is almost here. Big fan of summer. No, I'm excited. You don't know what that means? You live in Arizona. You don't understand it? We have summer twelve months a year. What are you talk? Is. There are there places where it's not summer getting hey, we had we had snow in Scottsdale this week. So people forgot how to drive let's settle down. But the point is I'm Ashley I'm passionate baseball fan. I do I do love spring training. But this Bryce Harper thing is mind scratching just numbing to me because I think price Harper who by the way, if the latest on Bryce Harper is is that he is met in person again with the owner of the Philadelphia Phillies in Las Vegas and one hour from now BUSTER only is going to join us to give us the very latest on it. But what we know is that there is some belief that there could be offer. There could be a deal done by Tuesday. I'd be really surprised if Bryce Harper science with Philly because it just doesn't feel like he wanted to go there. He coulda had this deal done a long time ago. They've been chasing him hard. Would you be surprised if it ends up price? Harper goes to Philly mean all signs point to there. So I guess at this point. No. But if you would've told me, Tim before this whole process started, I would said, yes. They didn't seem to check the boxes outside of having the money to spend on them. And look when players making these types of decisions that they way they have their own personal checklists in what they want to get. And the expectation is is that Harper will probably get a similar deal. What Manny Machado got the bar has been set. But didn't it feel like there were better options out there for him? It did it did. But it apparently all those offers dried up for Bryce Harper because the other thing that is a painfully obvious to me as we saw the, you know, the Manny Machado to San Diego, and how exciting that was. And how energized the San Diego Padre fan base became? He got three hundred billion over ten years. Are you telling me that Bryce Harper doesn't have a better offer than three hundred million? It would surprise me if he did. Because if he did I why would he not sign that deal? It would be it would be surprised if he had a three if Bryce Harper had multiple three hundred and twenty million dollar offers. Are you telling me he's not under contract already, right? That's right. Yeah. It'd be surprising because Bryce Harper from the word go the minute the World Series ended and free agency began in the hot stove turned on Bryce Harper was the commodity. So we know this that the Padres have had interest even though now they say they're out. We know the dodgers showed lukewarm interest. We know the San Francisco Giants would love to add Bryce Harper White Sox were in there. The White Sox for sure. So I'm just curious why why are teams not making him a three hundred and twenty five million dollar offer. Are you are you a guy rice young who believes that Bryce Harper makes teams better? See that's he had a down year last year right here. What to forty nine down here? That was still a spectacular your hundred RBI is in. I mean, he he did have there's no question Bryce Harper had a down year. Yes. Yes. But he also, you know, when you talk about like is he a winner can he can change your your franchise. He was part of a pretty significant turnaround with Washington nationals like Bryce Harper injected a new life into that organization, and look they surrounded him. And there's a lot of good players on the team. That lineup was great pitching. Unbelievable. Yeah. Sure. Zor and Rondonia they protected Bryce Harper. But he's an exciting player that you pay money to see. So yeah, there has to be some kind of level of. I don't know worry of buyer's remorse. Anytime you thrown around a ten year contract. I feel like that to me again. I don't know the inner workings of baseball front office, but tenure contracts I know that there's somewhat common with with these superstar level players. But. You. Thirty six, but you gave ten years in three hundred million dollars to a guy who admitted he doesn't like to hustle. Manny Machado said yeah, hustling, that's just not my thing. Less room for injury. You paid them three hundred million dollars. And I understand that. That's what you have to do. And we're talking about Bryce Harper. And where he may end up in the latest rumors about that here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app, and I just have a problem if you're going to pay Manny Machado, three hundred million dollars, and you're only worth what somebody's willing to pay you. You're not worth what you think you're worth Manny Machado, set the bar three hundred million dollars. I would pay Bryce Harper. I if we're paying three hundred million for Manny, I'm paying Bryce three twenty five and I don't have to think twice about it. I am. Because if it's not about the fit right in. It's just about the money. Then that's what it would take. Right. That's exactly what it would take in as a die hard. I m e passionate diehard Chicago Cubs fan. I would be happy to pay him thirty five million dollars a year and put him in right field. And I know that defensively his numbers are not stellar Bryce Harper can play the outfield on any major league team with any major league outfielder because he's gonna hit he's going to run hard. He plays hard. And if he's on the Chicago Cubs. Let's say if he's on if he's on the LA dodgers, if he's on the San Francisco Giants, I know that those three teams are better if he's on the Philadelphia Phillies. It'll be interesting to see what happens to that team. Because they've had Dave Robertson was a really nice pick up for the Phillies. So I think the Phillies will be a better team for him. I just I'm not convinced that Bryce Harper wants to spend the next decade in Philadelphia. Because if he if he had I think he would have done it. You know, I think he would've signed that deal already. But hey here nor there. I look at the the money thing, and this collusion argument, by the way that everybody talks about and rice, you may know, what I'm talking about the people feel like the owners of major league baseball are trying to keep free agents down and whatnot. I don't think that's the case with Bryce Harper. I think what's really happening agree or disagree. I think what's happening is he he believes he's worth three twenty five or three fifty and he's not getting those off. Yeah. I think that I think the players like him, they they they survey the marketplace, and they look at it and say there should be like a a level of inflation here. And that you know, I want to be the highest paid player in baseball history. And you know, I think the executives and owners are probably trying to show a different level of discipline these days, but to me, and and maybe the reason that you mentioned it earlier Tim that does Bryce Harper. Make you a title contender. Obviously in baseball. It's not like basketball. It's not like signing a quarterback where it's like the world can revolve around one player one player in the middle. Your lineup doesn't necessarily elevating the level. There's a lot of other factors a lot of other roles that have to be filled. But if let's say a good team signs, Bryce Harper. Can they do they become a great team from that point on? And I think that's what teams are asking themselves. I can only tell you that. I think the San Diego Padres are now in a much better place to contend for the NFL west. And really, it's not. Not only because of Manny Machado, certainly he helps and he fills in nicely on an infield with Kinzler he fills in nicely with with, you know. The things that they are trying to do the Cosmas, but they also have this unbelievable farm system with guys like Joey Lucchessi a guy like an Eric lower Luis Perdomo who's coming back or you know, what Denilson lament the head. Tommy John surgery for the Padres who's on his way back. Oh, by the way, they've got you realize twenty great prospects in AA and AAA for the Padres right now. So it made sense for the Padres to go spend three hundred million dollars. I'm Manny Machado my opinion. Is it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense for them to go and spend that kind of money on Bryce Harper because they've already got Franci Cordeiro whose name nobody knows. But that guy is a legit power guy. They've got guys to hit balls out of the ballpark. They don't need that. I'm telling you, the San Francisco Giants need that. I'm not convinced the Philadelphia Phillies. Do don't go anywhere BUSTER only in about forty minutes. I'll ask him straight up about is this an issue where Bryce Harper feels. He's worth more than the. Offers. He's getting because frankly, folks, I can't find another reason why he wouldn't be under contract. Speaking of worth the money. He's getting LeBron and the Lakers lost again last night. Lebron had some very curious comments after the game. So we'll talk about it next will the Lakers make the playoffs on the Mike ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

And what does that mean the meats that I can't do math? So he's with us. So what is on the radio? Thank goodness. I'm thinking he suggested. Yes, that's what I'm saying. That math won't be necessary to do this show Elsie. All numbers. Are we work with numbers though? So how you gonna have Matvey? Other people put together not only that he's here. We're here here. What are you going to do lots of winter meetings in major league baseball? The dodgers are apparently all in on Bryce Harper kind of scary, depending on what all in might be. Speaking of math, whatever the math involved in would being all in means four hundred million twelve years, whatever the numbers are. All right. I gotta give confession. Yeah. I need to make sure that my sports senses comes out, and it's not just skewed by other senses. Okay. I like Bryce Harper as a person I like the concept of personality. Okay. I happen to think he's attractive. Yes. To say. Okay. I China spend money on him though. I would just be as to when I was talking about him before to spend foreign meeting Donald Bryce Harper. It's a lot. He can phys it whatever it can come through talk. Visit I'll be able to see them and then going on his business trying to spend that much money on agree with that assessment of Bryce Harper which a couple generally. You feel most comfortable with. "That's a lot having said all of that, I will say this Bryce Harper hasn't had the kind of year that I thought he would have once upon a time. We were talking about him in my trout. Now it's clearly just Mike trout. How much is Bryce hop worth? I'm not talking about dollars incentives to. I'm not asking me to go there, but in terms of his value as a free agent. Right. Now, how much do you revered this guy compared to what we all thought about them to three years ago. Okay. So. Having been able to have shared the field with Bryce Harper? Yes, I've seen the highs. I've seen the good Bryce Harper and I've seen the bad Bryce Harper off seeing the hustle. Bryce Harper of seeing the somewhat lazy at times Bryce Harper. Ooh. Okay. What we'll say this. I am a Bryce Harper fan and to me when Bryce Harper decides that he wants to play and goes out there and does his thing. I feel that he is a better player than my travel. What you heard me, what heard me better than might use route when Bryce Harper. That Bryce Harper wants because Mike trout has been so consistent year in and year out. And we've seen what what Mike trout is able to do. My child is is you might as well put them down every single year as a top two top three for the MVP vote. And because you know what you're gonna get out of my Trump Harper's at up and down seasons. I get it, but the year he also went and won the MVP if Harper's able to go out there and have that same consistency of what Mike trout does to me, I feel that Bryce could be he could offset Mike trout as the best player in baseball. You, you know something right now, I listen. I want you to know that I'm proud of you be, you know, I'm proud of you. Yeah, you might. Somebody might think you have to look just got the big. Better than Mike trout. Make no sense. Look like we're talking about a career three. Oh, seven hitter. We'll career to seventy eight hit a. We're talking about Bryce Harper bat and to forty four. This year might trout bat three eighteenth talking about a model of consistency who has who's effort has never been questioned to a guy that you said of just that no matter how much love them..

"The question for the to dave's bryce harper has he scratched the surface of how good he could be i saw the homerun off block yesterday which he crushed it then the throw to the plate that kept the runners at second and third dave jaguar has harper scratched the surface of who we can really be well i mean he's incredibly talented marty i mean you look at that two thousand fifteen season and when he just dominated the national league the you know the nationals have been waiting for a repeat of that performance he as had some injuries here and there you know the thing that's been concerning this year is the low batting average and and the month of april he was he was walking at a at a pace he at thirty eight walks in april and in may he lost his patients and he started getting himself out on on pitches off the plate away so he's had these throughout his career these streaks of just other worldly performance and some streaks where he's not as good and that's where like when when you have the harper trout comparison trout has just been so incredibly consistent year to year harper as far more fluctuation in his game now i mean the talent the five tools they're all there it's gonna be real interesting to see what happens with his future i mean he's got some great loyalty to this organization and some folks in this organization very loyal to him you know how eager is heated to spread his wings and leave the nest so to speak well if someone throws in the money that may change that but i think folks around here are confident that he'll be here and the best is yet to come david well i mean the age is the thing that you just keep looking at it so enticing was he twenty five years old still still twentyfive so it seems like he's been around forever but he's younger than almost every player that the giants are running out there in today's lineup he probably is younger than every single giants player and almost everybody in the bullpen so he's the youngest player still on the field almost every day that he takes the field and yet he's got these credentials and awards and all the numbers and so i think the ages the thing that.
