"Personalities and like they do bring fans into the game all they do a lot of us. It's similar channel the in that case in baseball Where they can bring excitement? The fans are such a huge part of this. What is it like watching these games without any fans in the stands because of this pandemic? It's very unfortunate At the end of the day like I would save cream. Baseball experience. Eighty percents with being this. The fans watching the players. Of course. There's a big thing but it's very unfortunate that we cannot actually show that the whole World or America rather but at the same time it's something that gives opportunity For fans at home to watch the baseball game so I think it's still a huge thing that we have a leak going on while condemning is happening while at the same time is very unfortunately we cannot out of fans going play. What actually being able to participate live at the game. These are the these Games are on here in Canada. In the middle of the night you get up to watch them. I definitely do It is it was a little bit hard yesterday when I tried to watch them because it was like. Am in the morning. But I definitely was Interested enough and it was my favorite team that I actually played so without actually helpless on giving me the urge to wake up in the morning to watch those games. Who's your team Mike came Samsung Lions. I think it's more familiar to all the people in America because they've Samsung and like every new car. A lot of people use the Samsung phone something. Tv What do you? What do you love about that team? it was my mother's team so my mom taught me how to play baseball on. How do they experience baseball? And her favorite team offense on and so ever since naturally ever since I was little. Okay my mom multi and loved it as a fan. We know I mean. There are chants and songs. Does that do the Samsung Lions have kind of like a chance for the team? Yes stay deathly do And each of the players have their own vong so when they come up to hit They step into the batter's box. Everyone tents that those songs and it's very exciting to see and it's very enjoyable to. Can you sing the Samsung Lions Song? I quickly so players detained a lot so I do not really remember. I quickly because I haven't been to the game for a year or so. Sounds like you're trying to avoid singing on the radio. What would give me a flavor. What would it sound like? What would what would one of the chance? Be who would be like really similar to some of the National Long Korea and then they would In Corporate Lake Premium players name on this very simple ously neon and then you would clip with the B and all of that fantastic. Enjoy this moment for your sport. It's suddenly you a lot of other. People are up in the middle of the night watching baseball from faraway. Thank you very much. Nobody is the program director of the Korean Canadian Baseball Association. He is in Toronto. This is the current on. Cbc Radio One. I'm Matt Galloway sticking with sports sort of Tom. Power the host of Q. Is here hello. Tom Met you. Never ask me to sing on the Radio. I could do you have. Do you have a song lead baseball that you'd like to sing? No one time you actually did make me sing a song about memory live on stage when you were hosting metro morning in Toronto. I did indeed because when you ask somebody on the radio to something. Sometimes they'll do it. I'm going to keep that in mind to sing. Tiempo yellow ribbon around the old oak tree never going to happen. We want people to continue to listen. Turn the radio off here not to talk about baseball but basketball now. Yeah I'm here to talk about a pretty amazing story. Wesley King is a children's author in Nova Scotia. One day he was sitting in his boat he gets a call from Kobe. Bryant Kobe Bryant wants him to work on a children's book with him so he plies to Los Angeles and they work on it together. I mean of course. Kobe Bryant died earlier this year and tragic helicopter crash but before death. He was working on this children's book series. And now it's coming out. Check this out how are you? I'm doing all right. Thanks thanks so much for making the time before we get going. It just occurred to me that we've all been mourning. The loss of Kobe Bryant doesn't as an icon or someone we were a fan of but it's rare to meet somebody who's morning him as a friend. I'm so sorry thank you. Yeah I mean it was certainly a new experience to be morning a friend but also in of the public In the grocery store and see your friends as looking at it you release it was It was and continues to be just a strange experience. How did you guys meet in the first place? How did he reach out to you? Yes random I suppose turned out somebody to give it to one of my pucks inkling towards getting into chill storytelling he. He read them all and became a fan and reached out to me. But much to my surprise I was sitting on a fishing boat in rural Nova Scotia. When got the email that nickleby? Brian wanted to talk about writing a book together. So clash of world's they're a little bit and we hopped on the phone that night we It awesome it's on play to La days right in four years ago. Do you have any idea how you got his raider funny? Just descending read the books I don't know who actually gave it to Probably other big denna gratitude. But he just got the first one he read every single one of my books before even arrived. voracious reader. I mean. In retrospect I of course things use a big big raider a big sandwich children's storytelling offer head so we obviously connected on a bunch of things right away. It's uncommon for any athlete to have a side project like this especially for one like Kobe. Bryant I mean. He didn't need to write a children's book series. He could've to just lay on a beach for the rest of his life. Did he ever talk to you about why he was so interested in telling stories like this? Yeah he developed a real passion for it. You know even as a kid in Through high school it had the teachers started affected him. But I I think the real triggering moment was just as kids you know. He was phenomenal. Coach Phenomenal Dad. A venue to sort of share some of these values with the world large knew we had a captive audience especially of maybe young impressionable readers and he wanted to give them the of messaging me as on his own daughters. And so that was really sort of pure motive behind it that that also just let itself into what we started doing okay. So you're on a fishing boat. You got a plane to Los Angeles. You get off the plane. Pay Me a picture of when you met Kobe Bryant for the first time in real life I mean I guess now. It seems like the most typical Canadian coming to L. A. Moment ever because I had loafers shorts a softball. Sheridan ball cap on and I went to this like high-powered office in Newport beach. Walk into this. Last sort of office. his office and he's sitting monitors this massive celebrity deaths county by twenty pitcher. A Black Mamba Snake. On the walls the super villain type archetype Erin stands up and gives you a hog and says are you ready. Let's do it and we sort of sat down and started going but I look back on the scripture because here I am going to L. H. The first time aware loafers in shorts and a ball cap out but I think he liked that sort of very honest approach at each other so that worked out. Tell me about the series. The wizner he set up the premise. In just a couple of words here. Sherri. Yeah so just down the down in luck basketball team that visited by this match coach. Some challenges them to look inside themselves to confront fears insecurities to become the ball players and ultimately the man that they can be. I'm so it's very sort of positive uplifting story about how we can work on ourselves to become what we dreamed be. What are the stakes here? Like what's the conflict in this new series? They're interesting there's no. There's no obvious dealer. Susan the typical narrative arc that a lot of young leaders could use to this is more moving inward and using magic to sort of challenge on the doubts and insecurities. There's stories in here about things. Like Body Image. Like assume responsibility for families all these types of issues that manifest themselves at these magical cool challenges that we had to confront identify in our everyday lives again and this was sort of along those lines of the Momma mentality but just encouraging kids to believe in themselves in other sort of pure message of Hart Hall. What were your writing sessions like little blogger little Zany at times? You know Kobe like throat ideas. So that I you know. We just be sitting on couches bouncing ideas back and forth remember. One time I came back. He called me up. I was in the Mediterranean Sea. Sailboat is like can you come to? La like tomorrow like well. I'll do my best eye. Dr Africa Ghana playing goes in L. A. Like three days later and his office was just covered. Posted not just been writing. Maniacally posted moats everywhere and that helped shape. This next part of our books it was all very sperm model. So I guess if you have that hard work that mob mentality that he said that UN ending drive. It's also going to be there and every part of your life not just basketball. Oh absolutely I mean he. He became a mentor. Figure for me but not for what people might think mental cigarettes prioritizes life. It was family. I you know I was waking up at five. Am Who's coaching his daughter? Scheme or our values taking them out the school spending time with them throughout the running all these businesses publishing books. Doing all this stuff. I mean he was this source of constant energy than I admired so greatly higher. How're you finding doing interviews in promoting this book After his passing a bittersweet I guess is the word slump because obviously it brings back memories the mentality that life prior to January twenty six courses changed so dramatically Colombian I had talked about writing books in perpetuity citizen Katie. Reading books forever. This was sort of my future plans and and more than that. It was losing a friend. So that part's hard on the plus side. You know what I'm seeing. You know the book what Went Number One New York. Times again been translated again being spent on the world. So casillas values in his message. Continue to live on that legacy they spread. You know. That's the sweet part of it so it's been about. I guess if you'd like to tell me more about how your attitude towards life changed after you heard about Kobe passing in different ways and I. It was a sucker punch to the stomach. I was down..

"Helmet-to-helmet hit on Tommy Lee which could Vince still in office? I mean either way you know. There's two calls referenda mainly see. That's a critical human error this year. We knew you can never be close enough So this this year happens and you already know like we have no excuse to say we didn't know that You know the referee to go against us. We knew this we we have no excuse to say. Hey there wasn't a play a time and place of this game where we could've took over and never looked back. We had a couple of opportunities that we didn't capitalize upon. And it's why I'm sitting here and not preparing for this this weekend. Well maybe one more run back at it with a team that has shown a great resilience if nothing else in the meantime meantime on an entirely different subject you were playing in the pro bowl on Sunday and that was at the moment that the news about Kobe Bryant was spreading and I saw that they were tributes tend the fields and I I would just be curious to know if I may what that experience was like and what it was like being on the field knowing that was going on and the emotions that I'm sure all all of the players in that game. We're feeling right. I mean growing up you these say the greatest basketball player of all time would not Kobe. You know I didn't you'd you'd say it was Michael Jordan but I don't count argue that I wasn't there for two three hours there for four or five and I was there for the wizards Jordan. Get Get prime-time Bulls Jordan. My the greatest person that I ever got to got to see growing up was Kobe Bryant and you go from eight to twenty four and you see everything that he's done and as a suns fan. I just watched him destroy really muscle is no matter how good we got. You know whether we had Steve Nash. Stoudamire Jason Richardson Leandro Barbosa. We had squad and he got destroyed. And what the Western Dot Com conference finals. Now is our only chance to win so you watch them year in year out. Destroy everything about it and it's still want more you talk about. What Koby means to the entire tire? Sports realm is that perseverance level of never stopping never competing are never stopped competing and always striving for beyond excellence. There was a Kobe mentality for a reason. It was a koby be standard. Like you. Don't say you don't walk into rooms like hey I gotta Cam Jordan Standard. The whole world doesn't know that my guys that know that are around me know that his work ethic has his relentlessness. This of perfection just streamed so beyond. What is Kobe? Bryant Kobe Bryant you'd think about the icon that always worked hard. Took a helicopter into work early and you know was always there before everybody being there. It's crazy to say you know. A helicopter goes down the way it does. Because that's like everybody knows his regiment So we talked about that and then of course you know everything that he's he's ever going to mean to athletes. That's weird just saying that we were you know. Oh five minutes away from taking the tunnel to be announced to being it'd be having one hundred to be in a pro bowl to have having been like we're talking about the the whole locker was going up we've got you know no music playing. We've got lights flicker and we talk about. NFC about to take over the pro bowl and everybody catches the ticker from you know and then then it catches like fire. You're just sitting there like no. TMZ that is so could not be real and then you know you just sit there like the mortality rate of everybody's so it's such a fiscal thing this mind blowing. It is in many ways. We appreciate the recollections. Thank you so much for coming here today. Enjoy the rest of the week drew here. Does it have to be on the team next year. It's it's a possibility is we'll see what happens. sportscenter tonight six eastern after.

"First things first. I'm John Wolf. This is Nick Right Chris for joining us this this morning. We are down here in Miami for Super Bowl Week. We came here to talk football but in life sometimes plans change and unfortunately today is one of those days. We are continuing to process the news of Kobe. Brian Steph his reach so much farther than just basketball as a father and husband has been an NBA legend and Oscar winner. So much more nick. I know this was hard on your was hard on every sports fan. How are you processing all of this morning? Now that you've that is second to let it sink in. Yeah I think processing is the right word and I don't think it sunk in I. This is the first one of these for me as far as unlike broussard. I had no personal relationship with Kobe. Bryant and I've never had had a celebrity death that registered with me the way I know so many have with other people. I remember the outpouring when Michael Jackson passed. Ask and I'll be totally candid. I didn't understand it. I understood people appreciated Newsweek and appreciated his career. But I didn't understand the grief reef people were feeling and now I do A. I am still in a stage of disbelief. Chris Chris I win. The news came across my twitter. Feed is I think was so many people I said. Well that's it can't be right and then as the news seemingly the only got sadder and sadder and it was confirmed and then we also know his thirteen year. Old Daughter passed away along with seven other people. I don't even know how to wrap my arms around it and I am in true shock that these it it Kobe Bryant Nineteen Seventy eight to twenty twenty that that we are not going to see Kobe Bryant sitting courtside Laker Games. When he's old and gray and that we're not going to get to see this next phase of his life that he seemed to be so excitedly embracing over the last few years of his retirement? uh-huh yeah like everyone. I mean. I was in shock. I was actually in the air when I found out I was flying to Chicago in in roots are here somebody at texted me. OMG and I shot back a question mark and they say Kobe dive and it just I was like this. Can't be Kobe. Bryant Kobe Bryant question mark and they said yeah and I began seeing other stuff because we were about to land in the news and it was like a gut cut punch and as you said I mean. I've seen tragedies. I was very little kid when Roberto Clemente died of a plane crash Thurman Munson. I was older and could understand when he died with the Yankees Magic Johnson when he came out got HIV people on a die. Hard order. Roy Halladay and more recently the great pitcher. But I haven't experienced anything like this in the world of Sports Ford in my lifetime. This is the most tragic for me that I've ever seen and there are a lot of reasons to be devastated but one was that Kobe. Head transition so smoothly to life after basketball which surprised me because because he has such tunnel vision as a player that I actually was one that thought he might have trouble transitioning because basketball was such so much a part of his is life and really was his life but he I mean I haven't seen a transition this new business ventures a venture capitalist won an Oscar. Oh for his movie dear basketball bestselling author for the Mamba Mentality Book and a family man a tremendous family win. That's why we didn't see as many laker games because he was spending time coaching his kids. Ironically the last time I saw him was about a year ago at the mall in Newport New Newport or beach where he lived and he was with his family and we spoke for about ten minutes he seems so comfortable and so just comfortable in life after basketball and so. That's one of the reasons of many. That is most devastating than me. All Jenna that the what Bruce Archer right there is was my immediate reaction. Once you start the process it is. There are certain guys who really do worry about wants as their careers over. No matter how much money you're famer accolades. They have. What will they do and will? They always be trying to who've reclaimed their athletic fame and I would have thought Kobe was going to be tops on that list because he was such an amazing competitor and he seemed to have a just a almost animalistic need to compete to defeat you to have there be some Scoreboard that he was on the top of but instead he went a totally different way. He embraced he totally room. Self into I would. It would appear the things. He may be always had a passion for but deprived himself of because he was so focused on singular greatness as a basketball a player and so he gets into films. He's always reading a different book and she gets his sports fixed through his daughters. And that's the part that for everyone to me is so jarring about it and it's a makes makes you honestly reconsider all your decisions. It makes you like all of us. I you know. Spend time away from our families for career. We're very focused on broussard. If I may your bi-coastal and I spent a year and and a half living in a different city than my wife and kids and going back and forth and it makes you think like is any it does any of it matter other than the things that actually matter and Gobi was finally getting to do the things for him actually matter and to have that stripped from him and selfishly for all of us to lose getting to see what the next fifty years of a savant a brilliant person I and that was trilingual person that could show the ability to get to the top of multiple fields. I mean far. I'm from just basketball. You scroll down any of your feeds and he has affected just about everyone and I know you both touched on it but my question to you is how much bigger it was. Kobe Bryant then just the basketball accolades which in and of itself are tremendously impressive. First of all basketball wise on a world stage he was as big as anyone anyone because in Asia he was arguably the biggest NBA player. There you know so yup basketball wise. I mean his impact is second to none and that includes does Michael Jordan and Lebron James as far as worldwide prominence and being a face of the game but Ko Nick Kamen touched a lot of athletes even if they go on to do some really good things after their playing career the best part at least to the public of their life life was going to be their sports career. I don't know if he would've ever delved into politics or whatever he obviously was intelligent enough was well respected enough to do things like that but he he was gonNA do some tremendous things off the court and again that is one of the things that makes us so tragic in my mind and and I don't know if this makes it Satur- or makes it I don't know more palatable. Probably somewhere in between when he was in the public you right in the public is Saturday night the night before because they were the Lakers were in Philly and Lebron passed him in the scoring list. "You know full scale fast break offense getting up the floor transition that's ball movement okay every era has its different types now we have no ball movement with the Houston Rockets and yet they're very talented team but are they gonna win championships they can get to the NBA finals with that style to meet a statically it's one of the worst tiles in basketball I think there's too much taking advantage of the rules that goes on with Houston but Hey do it I mean it works it works until it doesn't but James harden's numbers are inflated they just are I don't know how many rockets fan could argue with me give Michael Jordan the same usage as James harden and put Michael Jordan this year all the way that three point shots are now considered a good thing when back then they were considered a bad thing it's the same thing about Kobe Bryant Kobe Bryant in this era right now even though it doesn't seem like it's all that far removed from when he was in his peak the league has changed dramatically I went back and looked at the games for Kobe Bryant was plain against the nets in the NBA finals or the Orlando Magic the games were being played in the eighties and the nineties and yet Kobe so would score thirty you're telling me today where the games are being played at times on in ten or twenty Kobe would score forty and yes he would be more efficient the game wasn't efficient back then they allowed more contact they would allow you to obstruct passage on cots and dribble drives now you breed on James harden it is a file and James harden is I hate crushing him because I think his talent level is off the charts I just don't like watching play basketball and I enjoyed watching Kobe right play bass while I enjoyed watching Michael Jordan play basketball and I enjoy lebron I enjoy watching lebron he's such a gifted passer I just got to say the where we get we get to levels of lunacy when we just ask a spreadsheet to spit out a number and we go from there and sets it unequivocally that guys better I mean I know we do that in baseball to baseball along all the different eras they have their dip they have their different ways but the numbers the same hundred sixty two games hundred sixty two games that's why so many baseball people yes I'm gonna use the term and call me a troll once again gatekeeper there I said it the gatekeepers they don't want to scale back a hundred sixty two games they love it right where it is because they've been arguing with their brothers and sisters and parents for years about numbers and now once you change the numbers you can never go back so there are more you don't agree I should probably work on finding a way to get to the NBA finals instead of just allowing your guy go I sell time in and time again now we'll while show today we pretty much got to everything the only thing I didn't get to I want to get to is how in the world we have little league reviews I already despise little league baseball I can't believe it takes up so much of the time on the major sports networks but now I need to see a coach in please don't call the manager they are a coach I got to see a coach Mosey out there and challenge a call and then they go to instant replay so we decide whether or not what a ten year old was wronged by an umpire please stop this and this is insanity of the highest order not to mention a we really **** about signs the signs feeling a little leagues like isn't that where we need to teach kids that yeah people try to take some from you it's up to you to protect yourself I want to hear that sore loser mentality about people stealing your sides why do you have signs than to prevent people from stealing and now we're gonna complain about it that actually happen this week in little league as if I didn't hate little league sports enough I don't have kids as you can probably tell not gonna indoor not only challenges but also coaches complaining about science feeling in little league baseball what are we teaching these kids I learned at a very early age playing battleship that you have to steal you have to cheat we have to do whatever is necessary to try to get out on top it worked for me did it not thanks everybody for listen only thank everybody for being a part of it today especially the guys help in Brian McKeon as well as Billy jocks David Schwartz and our.

"We do not have any basketball on Monday night. In fact, there's just one playoff game because we're down to the final four and each sport. So the only thing you have is game two between the sharks and the blues that when taking place in San Jose. And of course, the sharks one on Saturday night, they doubled up the blues. And so they've got the one oh lead. Logan Kapoor is in some kind of his own right now. But for those of you who listed on a regular basis, you know that Joe Thornton's by favorite hockey player of all time and. Thirty nine years old. I just want him to get another shot at a Stanley Cup. So been rooting hard for the sharks. It was really fun though. Very stressful to be able to watch that game seven against the avalanche and be able to cheer and scream and route like a fan stressed out fan, and then not have to take notes and come to work afterwards. I don't get those luxuries very often. But that was one luxury that I did enjoy vacation. I was ranting and raving along with the rest of you about the Kentucky Derby and the interminable replay it took forever. And I understand that that was a big deal over the first couple of days last week when I wasn't here. So we're asking you now to to kind of move forward and jump into this full workweek with us. And and what's up, yo? Eight five five two one two four two two seven Georgia's in Stone Mountain Georgia, welcome to after hours. Moaning their Amy welcome back. Thank you. Houston go to in St Paul do not have the heart a champion like crate and stuff too. There are two. Historic disliked over my lifetime. And that is your team the Boston Celtics, and you wanna know what we're real beautiful when your best player decide to let Kobe Bryant get in his head. Kobe Bryant you the reason why the most is to allow a championship year to get away from them. I don't know about this year another year, this particular. Yeah. I don't know that I would have called this championship year. I get that the expectations are really high. But this team never looked like a champion to be. They had had too many moving parts. And Gordon Hayward wasn't himself until the end of the year. But really it never fit the pieces never fit together. Once they were all reunited with kyri, Gordon coming, you know, coming back, and I never felt like they had the the chemistry. Never felt like they had that rhythm and groove. They put themselves in a hole with the way they started. So yeah, I don't know that I again, the expectations were there because of what they did a year ago get into the Eastern Conference finals, but that was a special formula and the chemistry did not carry over. And Kyrie's not a leader. He doesn't inspire guys to follow him. He's an incredible player offensive player for sure, but it upset the chemistry in that locker room. So I think more I think there. A lot of people, and I will I will say inside the locker room. I've heard this as well that that were anxious for this run to be over. Ma'am. The reason is that Kobe Bryant get entirely head that Cephas Koi. Bryant Kobe Bryant that forced the Lakers get rid of shack. Why he would maintain going that he could do everything? And not the reason why the other players did not like with Koby. I mean play with and rewrite nor the superstar to LA the pray with Koby. Well, we'll see what happens now because Kyrie is he's rumored to potentially be interested in reuniting with LeBron in Los Angeles. So that would be crazy. Brown wanting to work I read well, I don't know that LeBron's calling the shots. I'm not sure who's calling the shots in Los Angeles. But I don't know that it's LeBron. Put it this way. I don't they really, including the attitude the prayer spree. Well, did he assigned all those offer that he thought he was gonna get another gonna get there because he's a cancer? I don't think I'd go that far. I just don't think he's a leader. He he doesn't. Yeah. He doesn't inspire guys to rally around him or and and some of his comments to that they've seen if not divisive than than definitely not the type that would that would get guys to play their full potential. So I think there will be offers get he's a great offense of guard. He has the potential to run a series to to run a team just he's not the guy who's supposed to be your your spiritual leader. So to speak, George. I appreciate your call. Thank you so much and be a reporter just told him to. He was saying that Kobe Bryant getting Kyran here. It was called them possible championship this year. Poor Kobe getting blamed for all kinds of weird things, George. Thank you so much good to talk to you eight five five two one two four two two seven, you know, who is good at getting an opponent's heads. That's Tiger Woods least. He used to be maybe after winning the masters. He'll have that potential yet. Again. It's. Gulf next to major the world's best. I the oh website read that right? The world's best I the prestigious Wanamaker trophy. It's one of the coolest names for a trophy sports. Tiger shoots for back. Toback majors. Try to win sixteenth overall and creep up on Jack Nicklaus. The PGA championship is this weekend on CBS. You can find me on Twitter Ayla radio. We're asking you to vote for sure. And I know some of you have sent this to me one of ask asked you what's up about Matthew bowling from a high school in Houston, Texas, running a four four seven four four hundred meter which was the type of performance that would win gold medals. He did this in the Texas State championships. It was a record breaking leg and really cool to watch the video. If you haven't seen it, it's all over social media. So asking you what what's up, yo that's one thing. You've mentioned a lot of you have mentioned Premier League as well. So you can find us on Twitter or on Facebook. And definitely appreciate all of your kind words. Welcome me. Back from vacation. I had to do a lot of catch up on social media. The last couple of days because I I really did take a break from from Twitter and Facebook, it was nice. I promised you one more story about the accident that I had on the beach. Okay. You know, me I laugh at myself all the time. Right. I don't have any problems laughing at myself when I make a fool out of myself. That's I think one of my tearing qualities whatever I mean, it I get embarrassed sometimes too. But you might as well laugh, so you don't cry. So I didn't take my beach chair with me to Hilton Head. Instead, I borrowed the one that was there with the house that I was saying, and I took it to the beach. And I it was one of those ones that leaned back. You know, like one of those types of chairs where it's meant for you to essentially lay prone as opposed to sitting up street. Well, I wanted to read my book, I didn't want to lay back. I wanted to sit up a little straighter. I mean, not completely straight up. But I wanted to be able to to lean forward without having to hold my book about my head. Right. So I'm in this chair and. And I'm trying to scoot the legs into a different position. Here's have that potential beach chairs where you can you can move them into different positions, and you can change the angle at which you're sitting. Yeah. Not this one all of a sudden as I'm scooting, and I'm pulling up the back of the chair the entire chair flips over backward me in it and lands on the sand. So let me describe for you. I'm stuck in the chair because the chair has collapsed on top of me. I'm laying on my back with my legs up in the air. And what do I do start cackling like an idiot. I didn't even know how to get out of the chair because I was stuck in the chair. And I just started laughing and was do you ever have one of those laughing fits where you start at? You. Just can't stop. Well, it was kind of like that. It was as noxious. And it was it just I couldn't get out of the chair. I really care about getting out of the chair. All I do is laugh and the more. I laughed the harder. I laughed and no doubt the people around me wondered what in the what is she doing? In fact, they probably said what's up, you know, they didn't. I mean, I refuse to look at anyone because what was the point. I knew there staring at me. But yeah, there are no pictures. I'm going to assume there's no video. I'm just telling you. I was stuck in the chair. My legs were up in the air. And I was laughing my rear end. I mean, only me maybe only maybe somebody else out there has has fallen over into beach Charon gotten stuck before. But it was pretty perfect for my vacation. I hadn't laughed like that. In quite a while. Dave, you may be really good. If you tell me you've done that before too. Chris would never admit is. Yes, the answer's yes. Have you really? Yes. Oh, cool. Chris come on. Yeah. Thanks, guys. It's good to know you mystery. I appreciate that. So we are back at it. Happy Monday to you, again, check out some of the photos a few of my favorite things from vacation, including my guy, Jack, no not the one with the goal teeth. "You. Was it wasn't like it really wasn't that bad. But he reacted in such a strong way kind as if like he is like, you know, like he didn't need it in additional whatever ailment who's going through whatever. You know, he's he's probably been interfering two months. But it's just a we don't know the degree that maybe always going to be injured forever. Well, that's that's a deep major point. You can't overstate. I don't have to point at me. That's it feel like you're. You're object. Objection your honor. Dan. I did my trial for a couple years. All right, pal. So but seriously, that's that is the deeper bigger thing with all of this. If he's going to be consistently injured, even when they're resting getting all this treatment stuff. We know how big he is. He's got all this muscle. You can hurt yourself. Just make it a routine move and practice non contact like for a guy like this to continue to deal with all these issues, and they keep lying about it. And he's only gonna get older and deal with more, wear and tear, the long term health questions. We were asking like a year and a half ago. Nonce nonstop about Embiid. We gotta start thinking about those questions again. Ellen brands is taking the job is. I think shown a lot of poise. With the treaties made. And then Huston his job. I thought he did a great job handling the the full comments to like, you know, delivering not really very bench, by the way. Folks was somebody sent me an Email? Not. Okay. Okay. But you know, he's otherwise been had a pretty poise year. But this could have just been a, you know, he's a rookie Jim because there's been a rookie Jim steak. Sixty four games. You know, I won't let me go to Bill because spills been waiting forever, and we'll get back into this conversation. The second bills on ninety four WPA Bill. How are you? Just thinking to watch and for the first game of the season. Inclusion. I'm sure why people have the bullpen could be a major problem this year. Showers cliche. Don't put this year. I be okay with that. Well, you gotta have somebody out there. But the real problem is that they need a real closure. Important role was in while, you know, you're gonna have to go to two thousand eight all you know, all teams need a real close. But the problem is Bill right now naming a real close to even valuable real. Kimmel wants too much money. And I don't know what Kimble's status is today like how good Kimble's going to be. Rivera needs any certain. Kimbrell own and we don't even know when he's going to be ready to take a guess on your to. Yeah. You can't get. Because we Bryant Kobe Bryant scored sixteen game when he was thirty seven years old. Thirty seven years old. And we'll put you on hold in just one impaired tickets that final game. I think it was that that game was a circus. That was one of the biggest joke circus games that I've ever seen was Kobe's last game. Was that? Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Yeah. Yeah. That was a cloud shows. The game of sixteen though is the less sixteen April thirteenth six stat line. Had fifty shots. Yeah. How old was he when he did the eighty? Well, that was ten years before then so twenty seven okay, I thought he was even older than that. When he did he eighty what would we are you on over? Oh, I started looking up who would you say to you MVP candidates? Are this year? Westberg harden? Well, in order Janas harden Miana system winner. Yeah. Three stuff. You can go Paul, George, George. I actually I would put carry three. That's. I already looked up. Impede played sixty four games. This year. I'm bringing up this MVP thing because there are you? And I have a bet over it. And plenty of other people think Embiid should be an MVP conversations so far hardened played in seventy eight games west book, seventy two Paul George seventy seven. Mike, very good at this kind of stuff. How many games do you think? Steph carry played in this year. Sixty eight let's take well net would put him in embiid's level there. He pretty damn good Mike you one game sixty nine but there's still still nobody as low as in BJ. He's still the lowest. I'm just saying when I bought up that question. You really got a big rise is just going to be hurt. All the time. I'm just saying I'm looking at all the MVP candidate so far and every single one of them will play more games in be. All right. Well, this one of you can get 'em beat a a win on Koa Leonard. Oh, he missed a bunch. Right. He probably checks in around fifty five, but that's not him. Traditionally, right. But last year he. A year of his prime. Last year was a bizarre thing that went down. But now, I it's legitimate to bring them up. A speaking of people throughway, you're the prime Anthony Davis as well. I I've our own Anthony Davis. And by the way that thing he shows. Said that's all folks and claims his son just grab the shirt on his way onto door. I thought he also said that he has clothes laid out for them. People aren't playing these sun on. Not blame. But I think I think he put up his son. I didn't. But what that church said. For him to say, well, this is day. After Alvin gentry said, he gets terrible advice. Yeah. Which I mean, he's right. Yeah. You said he's a good guy. Listening to people. What he said. Yeah. He threw win that. He's a good guy. You know? But then say the good guy who listens on people, which to me is pretty much the same thing as saying nice guy when he sober. That was a big line in my neighborhood. And that always meant that the dude was never sober. "Welcome back to the last half hour of your money in you, presented by Hefferin Tillotson Inc. Tends to be what I like to call the speed round. So we've got a number of phone lines open. So if you've got a question for any Brian or myself anything to do with your investments botches stocks and bonds, but anything to do give us a call number here in the studio. Eight six six three nine one ten twenty eight six six three nine one ten twenty Brian. I still want to pick your brain about some of the sector rotation things. And some of the things that we've been talking about looking attractive going forward, but hasn't got traction yet and in some some wide divisions. And we've been talking about this between growth, and value and US and non US going to pick your brain on that in a second. But on on that note, let's let's grab one of our callers has been patiently hanging on Jim from oke Mont. Jim. Thank you for hanging on your on. Katie k good morning. Good morning. Thank you. Go ahead with your question. Oh, all right. I was wondering if there was any tax advantage and making charitable contributions. From your required. Minimum distribution. I had been making them with appreciated stocks. And I'm hearing that I would be better off making contributions from required. Minimum distributions. Why think those are both excellent strategies, and I think it's going to depend on your own situation. So what you're referring to the official word is accu- CD or qualified charitable distribution. And what that does is the advantage. There is if you're donating to charity. Right off the bat it to make it simple. If you if you just gave one hundred dollars to church, the new tax code changes. You're you're still able to deduct that if your deductions exceed your standard deduction. And so some technical words there, but everybody alive gets a twelve thousand dollar deduction right off the bat from their income as a married couple. You get twenty four thousand. So if you give a thousand dollars to your church, well, you either get to do the standard deduction or itemized. Well, you'd be crazy to only itemize with that thousand dollar deduction when you could take the standard deduction and get twenty four thousand dollar reduction. So what that does is it you you kinda lose out on the charitable deduction. So again, if you were to just give your church a thousand dollars one hundred dollars, whatever it is. And that's the only deduction you had on your tax form you. You would you would lose that deduction. Well, you wouldn't necessarily lose it. But that twenty four thousand standard deduction would would be there. Whether you give to the church or not. So how do you how do you maximize your charitable gift? Will you mentioned two excellent ways if you have highly appreciated stock if you give those shares to a charity will the charity doesn't have to pay taxes. So if you had a stock that you paid a dollar four it's now worth a thousand dollars. If you were to sell it. You would have to pay capital gains on that appreciation. But the charity doesn't have to do that. So you're able to make a pre-tax gift and prior to last year, you would also be able to take the deduction off of the market value of the stocks. The stock was worth our dollars, you paid a dollar for it. You would eliminate the capital gains, and you would be able to take a charitable deduction of a thousand dollars. But again that standard deduction is so large that you would get the standard deduction. Whether you gift did that to charity or not now, this is where the qualified charitable distribution comes in the QC de the nice thing about the Q CD's. It actually eliminates. That distribution from even getting counted as income, so let's say again to to to use an example, let's say your income was fifty thousand dollars a year, your your standard deduction would eliminate if you were a married. Couple would eliminate the first twenty four thousand so that would be that income would be wiped away. But if you did the la- qualify charitable distribution. Well, now that doesn't even count in your fifty thousand dollars worth of income. So if you did a thousand dollar distribution, your income would only be forty nine thousand nine fifty thousand so right there, you get you get a deduction above and beyond the the standard deduction, so depending on your tax situation, depending on your gains, depending on if you're still able to itemize or if you take the standard deduction, the qualified charitable distribution might make sense. And I think if we were to kind of oversimplify. It if you take the standard deduction, I think the qualified charitable distribution would probably be your better bet. I think you're going to get a bigger bang for your buck in terms of tax breaks than gifting the highly appreciated stock. Now, there's there's kind of a way to do both. There's. There's there's a couple of different ways that what you could do is you can take those highly appreciated shares, and you can put them into certain trusts certain vehicles that will allow you to take several years of a future distributions and include them all in one year. So there's something called a donor advised fund that let's say you had one hundred thousand dollars worth of stock and you wanted to give that to your church over the next ten fifteen years, and that stock was was very highly appreciated. What you can do is take all that hundred thousand or fifty thousand or ten thousand or whatever the stock is you can put that in. What's called a donor advised fund? A personal donor advised sun, and you would get a charitable deduction all in this in this tax year. And that if if you have. A year where you have a great deal of deductions that may get you over that twenty four thousand dollar limit where you're able to take advantage of those deductions, but the nice thing about the donor advised funds. If you don't have to give that all to the church or the charity today a lot of folks like to kind of spread that out over time for various reasons, and you can do that. So you can take advantage. You could eliminate all of those capital gains today, and you can spread the gift out over multiple years. So that's a way to kind of maximize that gift, but again, depending on your situation that the qualified distribution straight from your IRA might be the way to go. What you'd have to do is just just crunch the numbers on all of those things in and see what? All right. If you give x number of dollars from the required. Minimum distribution is that exact same dollar amount. Put on the tax return that I mean. Yes, that would be a dollar for dollar elimination of the income up to one hundred thousand one hundred it doesn't it's not limited to your required. Minimum distribution. But it's it's up to one hundred thousand. Very good. So it's a great opportunity. That's how you great way to maximize the return. Thank you. Very informative. I've been just doing appreciated stocks. Yeah. And that's a great way to do it. But I think yeah. That's that's if you're gonna gift if they appreciated, but I think that qualified charitable distribution might be able to get you a little bit more. I'm gonna look into that. Thank you so much. Thank you for the call. It was wonderful question. All right. Let's let's grab another caller. Let's talk to Mike from a key sport. Mike, you're on Katie good morning. Good morning, gentlemen. Good morning. Go ahead with a question. My questions for Bryant Kobe Bryant, what is your outlook for the foreign markets and the emerging markets for for next year. Sure. We'll thanks. Thanks for the message in terms of the outlook. I would say it depends on your time horizon. And if your time horizon is longer multi year, I would say the outlook is quite bright. If your time horizon is short, I e a few months or the next six months, I would say to expect more volatility maybe twenty nineteen kind of falls somewhere in between. But maybe I I'll talk about why the long-term outlook is bright. And then I'll talk about why do expect more volatility over the short term. So we'll Bryan before you go into that. We're going to be up against a break. Let's take a break. Now. So hold that thought hang on the line mic. Hold that thought. Because we also got a question very similar an Email question. From Phillip saw introduced that on the other side of the break. And but I want to give a wanna give you enough time. Bryant. Kind of get that thought out. So we're not interrupted so number here in the studio. Eight six six three nine one ten twenty. We've got a few lines open eight six six three nine one ten twenty. We'll be right back after this. I don't trust. I.
